Sensory Processing...What is it? The brain takes in different sensory information from our body and the environment so that we can pay attention, plan, follow rules and directions and be organized. Some people have difficulty "filtering" the information and become focused on "unimportant" information, such as brightness of the lights, sound of air conditioner, feel of clothing, etc. Occupational Therapists, Teachers and other clinicians work to provide strategies to help people who have sensory processing dysfunction that impacts their ability to function and participate in their daily lives.

“Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.”

This week, I made a choice. I observed two paths at my feet.
Down one, the story went something like this:
She was content. She knew the number on her bi-weekly paycheck. She would trade her integrity for the will of another - humans with power, governing and creating policy in response to vulnerable adults experiencing illness, aging, loneliness/isolation, and addiction. She knew the employer’s expectation of her, so there was little room for error. Her resume was shinier.
Down the second, the story went along like:
She was content. She was forced to trust the universe, fully believing her mere existence was worthy of a paycheck, attracting abundance, maintaining nonattachment to the material. She was living in flow - existing in complete alignment with her mind, body, and Spirit. She knew nothing, and yet everything. There was both no expectation and complete faith in her abilities to overcome every challenge by the grace of God. Her resume was irrelevant.
Life is a series of choices - small and expansive.
My skill of consciously taking pause in my body and as a witnessing presence to my mind is a relatively new one. This time, I listened to my body over my mind.
And because of this, I know there is no failure. There is only what we create.
Zoe's first World Book Day costume is... Herself, as featured in "Adopting a Little Brother or Sister" by... Us! 🤣 The big sister character in this story was strongly based on Zoe, and she illustrated the book, so it's very close to our hearts 🥰 . #worldbookday2023 #wbd #worldbookday #socialworkmonth #socialworkmonth2023 #socialworker #adoption #fostering #fostercare #kinshipcare #specialguardianship #therapeuticparenting #bookstagram #childrensbooks #inclusivebooks #booksbooksbooks #adoptionresources #fostercareresources #kinshipcareresources https://www.instagram.com/p/CpSw_rqM3Bi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

India's Education System: How We Can Make It Better
Swapnil Ingale - As a social worker in Nashik, I've witnessed the strengths and weaknesses of India's education system. Education is vital for our nation's progress, but there are pressing issues to address. I'll discuss key problems and propose solutions for a more equitable and effective education system.
Unequal Access:
Many areas lack quality education due to limited resources. To remedy this, we must build more schools, train teachers, and ensure every child has equal opportunities.
Memorization vs. Practical Skills:
The focus on rote learning hampers critical thinking. Promoting hands-on learning and teaching essential life skills like communication and teamwork is crucial for students' future success.
Outdated Lessons:
Our curriculum often fails to address modern needs. Updating it to include subjects like technology and entrepreneurship can broaden students' horizons and equip them with relevant skills.
Training and Support for Teachers:
Teachers need better training and ongoing support to adopt innovative teaching methods. Investing in their development can enhance the learning environment.
Stressful Exams:
Exam-centric education adds undue pressure on students. Shifting towards assessments that measure critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, such as projects and presentations, can alleviate stress and promote holistic learning.
Change is imperative for India's education system. By addressing these issues collaboratively, we can create a system that empowers students and prepares them for a bright future.
I was able to go to one of my favorite cafes and do some prep for teaching a MANDT class. MANDT is a de-escalation training that focuses on the protection of client and staff and really emphasizes the dignity of a person and is very trauma-focused.
On the train home now after giving a talk at the Compass Social Work conference, about how to talk to children about foster care, kinship care and adoption! Met some great people and had some interesting discussions. So glad I've stumbled into this unexpectedly fulfilling "job" that doesn't really feel much like work at all. . #worldsocialworkday #socialworkmonth #socialwork #socialworker #socialworkers #fostercare #specialguardianship #lifestorybook #lifestorywork #fostering #kinshipcare #adoption #lovemyjob #smallbusiness #dowhatyoulove https://www.instagram.com/p/CqBA1OJIS-H/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
