speculation - aaron hotchner x reader
aaron confides in you his suspicions haley is cheating on him.
cw: bau!reader, takes place in s3 timeline - before the divorce, angst, mentions of adultery and unfaithfulness, aaron's sad but not really showing it (naturally), light foreshadowing that someday aaron and reader get together <3 wc; 1.2k
aaron's hands gripped the steering wheel and his stare was pointed forward, the atmosphere heavy in the car. grey clouds had been rolling in all morning, and now the rain was just beginning to fall, a light sprinkle pattering on the windshield.
the two of you had just frequented a crime scene, departing after a rather tense situation - one of the investigators had nearly disrupted the crime scene in a lazy wake, and aaron had thoroughly allowed him to know his mistake.
while aaron was always stern, it was... different this time.
"hotch?"
at his name, you managed to pull him from of his thoughts - you could tell by the way his jaw moved, his grip on the wheel ever so lightly loosening.
aaron didn't respond though; figuring he wasn't too keen on sharing whatever was on his mind, you put your focus out the window, watching the rain begin to slowly collect on the road.
"haley's cheating."
your head turned towards him in an instant, a sickening dread beginning to pool in your stomach at the blunt confession. "what?"
"haley's cheating on me." he fought against the brokenness that dared to ache in his voice, remaining solid and firm in his words. he released a breath, as if saying it out loud made it real; the final confirmation he needed himself. "i may just be paranoid, creating something out of nothing. but things have been... strange."
"oh." your shoulders slumped, the back of your head hitting your headrest.
"strange enough it's been noticeable."
"what's been going on?"
"weird phone calls." he bit his lip as he gazed off to the side, as if he were recalling an instance internally, his hold tightening once again. "she's been more distant. uninterested. sometimes, when she comes home, she won't look me in the eye."
ouch. "i'm sorry."
it was rather surprising, in an odd way. to the naked eye, aaron was someone who was well put together; phenomenal at his job, a clear key-in for potential director of the bureau someday. from an outsider perspective, one could infer he lived a perfect life, and therefore had the perfect family to go along with it.
if he wasn't confiding in you, that's what you would've thought.
aaron didn't talk about his personal life - that's one thing you quickly learned upon your addition to the team, a month or two ago. you could recall what penelope had for breakfast, what books spencer had read in a day, what color underwear morgan had currently on.
anything about aaron, nothing.
whether it was because he was your boss, or because he wasn't an openly expressive person, you always went back to the guilty thought - has anyone at least ever asked?
while you all went out for drinks after a long day, aaron never usually attended. but he had a family at home, of course he would go home to them - that's where his priorities laid.
the constant secrecy surrounding him was the reason you've been so intrigued by him since day one - spending so much time with someone you knew nothing about.
and if you learned anything now, he wasn't going home to the home you had previously thought. it was barely a home, he was more so a guest. you were slowly beginning to understand more why he rarely smiled.
aaron hotchner was just as human as anyone else.
even now, he wasn’t showing much emotion. it was evident he was extremely hurt, and had all the emotions one could imagine. but would he distinctly let that on, letting his vulnerability show - no.
aaron opened his mouth to respond, slight hesitation before he spoke. he began to deflect, "but i could just-"
"no. listen to your intuition." you interrupted softly, grounded. "like you said, if you're taking notice, something's going on."
he nodded in agreement, the motion of his head strained. he did force out a chuckle, a terribly sad laugh. "part of me doesn't blame her-"
"don't say that. she's your wife."
"exactly." aaron sighed out, eyeing the wedding ring on his left hand. "there's something i could've done to prevent this. to keep her interested. to solidify i'm still here for her despite the long hours and schedule. instead i'm the husband and father who's never home. and it's difficult to be the husband i want with the possible betrayal."
"she's your wife." you repeated, solemnly. "so she should know you. you're the husband and father who stops at nothing to catch the criminals who walk amongst us. you're this job, and asking for understanding on that isn't wrong. regardless of what you say you're doing wrong, or have done wrong, it doesn't give haley the excuse to... do this."
you didn't want to say cheat. not for his sake - the depth of the word felt harsh and prominent in your chest.
"i appreciate you saying that." his eyes met yours briefly, the tone of his voice genuine. "but i messed up. i guess what they say about getting needs met elsewhere is true."
you quieted.
aaron also added after a moment, in an exasperated near-whisper. "and besides... i don't think she's known me in a while."
silence filled the car once more, and you let out an exhale. you felt for him, and his marriage. you couldn't imagine what it felt like, or how he felt: the person who you thought was your forever slipping through your fingers - like trying to catch smoke. it was there, you just couldn't grasp it.
you hoped you weren't overstepping boundaries with your next question. "does she know..."
"that i know?" aaron asked, and you nodded. he kept his stare forward, chewing on his bottom lip for a moment. "i believe so, yeah."
you waited for him to speak again, while he was confiding in you, you didn't want to pry - none of really this was your business. you at least hoped it was clear you were offering support within the silence.
and you must've, because he continued. "i feel sick to my stomach it could be happening in my house. in my bed. with our son in the next room over." he shook his head angrily with the last sentence, in disbelief as he clicked the windshield wipers on, the rain falling more heavily now. "i lie awake at night when we're gone, just thinking what's going on at the moment."
"i wouldn't do that." you offered quietly, although you knew that advice was nearly impossible to follow. "you will make yourself sick."
aaron vaguely shook his head again, defeated. "i don't know what else to do."
you weren't sure what to say, or exactly why he was telling you all this. again, you didn't know him well. and not only, in a way, he terrified you, in more ways than one. the only way you could describe it - when he looked at you, he really looked at you. you were terrified of what he could make you realize about yourself.
"so, what are you going to do?"
"i don't know."

this one goes out to all my Singin' in the Rain ot3 truthers—
Cosmo Brown had always known it would end like this.
Cosmo was a lot of things—in fact, you could argue he was too many—but he wasn’t dumb.
From the early years, when Cosmo and Don were just kids playing for pennies in pool halls, to their stint dodging rotten vegetables on Vaudeville stages across the very backwaters of America’s backwaters, to their first real breath of success in Hollywood (and then the second and the third and the fourth), Cosmo would catch a glimpse of his handsome, charismatic friend from the corner of his eye—a flash of dark hair, that perfect tooth powder ad smile—and know that for all Don’s protestations, someday the guy was gonna meet a wonderful girl and get married, settle down, and very gently slip off to the far edge of Cosmo’s life.
So yes, Cosmo had seen Kathy Selden coming. Not the details, not her sense of humor or her musical little laugh or the madcap way she really threw herself into dancing with them around Don’s place at 1:30 in the morning—and okay, certainly not the part at the beginning where she had jumped out of a cake at a party, but he thought a fella could be excused for not correctly divining that.
The general outline of the thing, though, how Don’s eyes followed her around a room...he had been preparing for Don to propose to Kathy ever since she’d tried to throw a pie at Don’s face. And when the happy day came, Cosmo had been ready with his best man suit, his best man speech, a slightly updated version of “Here Comes the Bride” that’d had Don and Kathy laughing all the way down the aisle.
Don and Kathy would buy a house together. They would have a swimming pool and a dog and then inevitably, a small parade of adorable little snot-nosed kids who would call him Uncle Cosmo, and they would spend less and less time with him, not on purpose but busy with the rest of their lives, and ultimately Cosmo would learn to make his peace with it because he’d have no other choice and he would have to try to move on and not live too much in his memories. He could picture it so clearly, he figured if the songwriting gig with Monumental didn’t pan out, he could always return to the backwater circuit with a new act: The Amazing Cosmo of the Cosmos—ladies and gentlemen, he sees the future, he reads the stars, he silently pines for his best married pal and all the while tap dancing!
Don and Kathy inviting him along on their honeymoon, though—that part was a surprise.
“What?” said Cosmo, hands frozen over the piano keys. He’d been busy with a brand-new assignment; on the heels of The Dancing Cavalier, offers were pouring in and he’d taken the first one scoring a movie that didn’t star anyone he was secretly in love with.
Don had looked a little wounded when Cosmo broke the news last week, but a guy had to start making his own way in the world. Besides, orchestrating layers of strings to swell as the camera zoomed in on Don and Kathy blissfully locking lips in radiant monochrome, oblivious to the rest of the world—well, Cosmo knew that dance, he had mastered the footwork, and he didn’t especially feel like a reprise.
It wasn’t lost on him that Kathy had dropped by his rehearsal space alone today. Of course, he had no idea what this meant—he didn’t think it was about the new job; Don didn’t tend to stay sore at him for that long—but Kathy was acting perfectly natural, and so probably the smart thing was to follow her lead.
“It’s a two-week transatlantic cruise,” she said now, gracefully dropping beside him on the piano bench. “We thought it would be nice to see Europe, take in the sights, get away from all the cameras.”
“Ah yes, such a wallflower, our dear Don,” said Cosmo solemnly. “Besieged on all sides by the love of his public, a tragedy of our times, up there with Lear! Hamlet! Caesar! The one with all the Greeks and the giant wooden horse, nay, nay, neigh.” He played a tragic little trill, for effect. Kathy huffed a laugh and smacked his arm.
“You know that’s not it,” she said. “Being watched all the time—we can’t always do what we want. It’s rotten.”
Tell me about it, thought Cosmo.
He was sort of seeing a fight choreographer named Archibald, who came from old money and was a “the third” or a “the fifth” but nice enough Cosmo might even forgive him for that. Archibald was trim and athletic, with dark brown hair that was just starting to go gray at the temples and enough discretion that Cosmo didn’t think they’d get caught. The only problem was that he didn’t laugh at Cosmo’s jokes, seemed to just tolerate them.
“What do you two even talk about, then?” Don had asked, when Cosmo had let this slip over drinks the same night he’d explained about the new movie project. (Cosmo had been trying to spend less time with Don and Kathy since the wedding but Don had said, “C’mon, pal, we miss you” and Kathy had laid one hand on his arm and peered up at him with her big green eyes and Cosmo was only one man.)
Cosmo had frowned, because Don hated Archibald, for reasons that were frankly mysterious. Then he’d looked up and grinned a grin he didn’t exactly feel and said,
“Tell you when you’re older,” and then Don had choked on his dry Martini even though Cosmo knew Don knew about Cosmo’s tendencies. It wasn’t something they discussed, and Cosmo had never properly gone with a guy before, but whenever a big-shot producer started complaining about all the degenerate queers in showbiz, Don always sharply steered the conversation someplace else. It was all very gallant and noble and knightly, and someday Don would play King Arthur and Kathy his lady Guinevere—
“Honestly, sometimes it feels as if we’re living in a fishbowl,” said Kathy now, in the present.
“And so your solution is to relocate,” said Cosmo, “to the biggest fishbowl on this here magnificent earth. The mighty ocean!” He struck up a sea shanty. “Oh blow the man down, blow the man down / way ay, blow the man down…”
Not everyone appreciated his musical flights of fancy, but when Cosmo turned, she was leaning with her elbow on the side arm of the piano, watching him with her chin on her hand and laughing.
“Just for two weeks,” she said. “So, are you coming?”
“With you two,” said Cosmo, just so there could be no misunderstandings. “On your one and only honeymoon.”
“Yes,” said Kathy.
“As what, your first mate?”
“Sure.” She grinned and threw him a quick salute. Cosmo was almost never attracted to women but in this case, he understood the appeal.
He swallowed. “You are aware of that ancient saying, ‘Two’s company and three’s a fast track to divorce court’?”
“You’re hardly a threat to our marriage, Cosmo,” she said, and he agreed, of course, in both directions, even, but it still stung to hear her say it out loud. For want of anything better to do, he gasped, clutched a hand to his chest and reeled backwards so hard, he threw himself off the piano bench, landing in a somersault on the floor.
Kathy spun around fluidly on the bench to face him, pleated skirt whirling a little, heels of her shoes clicking together.
“Oh, I said that badly,” she said. “I only mean that it’s more fun when you’re around. We have a better time, Don and me both. Remember the night we decided to make Dueling Cavalier a musical?”
“Do I remember the best night of my life?” Cosmo peered up at her from the hardwood. “Why yes, madam, now that you mention it, I believe it might ring a bell or two.”
“The best—” She frowned for a moment, and he remembered then that as a newly married woman, a newly married woman to Don Lockwood, no less, she’d no doubt experienced any number of evenings that blew that one out of the water.
Even besides that, it felt awfully revealing all of a sudden. Cosmo threw an arm over his eyes. He felt naked. He wished he was naked, because that might at least distract from whatever his face was doing.
“So it beats your time with Archibald, then?” said Kathy shrewdly.
Cosmo uncovered his eyes. He forgot, sometimes, that new as Kathy was to the moving pictures business, she was still a city girl, with a city girl’s worldliness. Also, Don had probably told her; that seemed like the kind of second-hand secrets married people shared with each other. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
“Hardly a topic for mixed company,” he said.
There was a pause.
“So yes,” she said and smiled with a smugness that would’ve been unbecoming were she not as cute as a button.
“What do you and Don have against the poor man anyway?” he groused. “He’s never done so much as sneezed in your direction, and if he did, I’m sure he’d use a handkerchief.”
“For one thing, we know you could do better,” said Kathy, folding her arms.
Cosmo elbowed his way back to sitting, brushing himself off with dignity. “Well, better’s not exactly knocking on my door right now.”
“This town doesn’t have an ounce of sense.” She reached down to offer him a hand up, pulling Cosmo to his feet; she was stronger than she looked. “Listen, two weeks away, it’ll be good for you.”
“What about you two?” Cosmo protested as he reclaimed his spot on the bench, Kathy sliding to make room.
“What about us?” said Kathy with wide eyes.
“Two newlyweds might want some alone time?” he offered weakly.
Kathy shrugged. “I told you, there won’t be reporters or cameras. It’ll be plenty private.”
“What about your matrimonial needs?”
“Which needs?”
His eyes narrowed; she was a terrific actress but suddenly he wasn’t sure he was buying it. Kathy wasn’t dumb either.
“You have to know what I mean. Don’t make me play Cole Porter at you,” said Cosmo. She hesitated, and Cosmo began to pluck out a melody: “Birds do it, bees do it / even educated fleas do it…” He wiggled his eyebrows.
“Let’s do it,” sang Kathy, finishing the stanza in her lovely alto, “let’s fall in love.”
Cosmo stopped playing.
“I do know,” she said simply, “of course I do, and we’re not worried about it, alright? Listen, do you want to go?”
Cosmo, who had been carefully not asking himself that question, stared down at the piano keys. Did he want to go? He thought back to that night at Don’s, the three of them giddy with excitement and inspiration and sleep deprivation, running through the house, clowning around and dancing with no audience except each other—he hadn’t felt like a hanger-on then, like a third wheel or an extra limb or a chaperone. He’d felt like he was exactly where he was supposed to be, one note of a perfect chord.
Still.
“I can’t swim,” he said.
“They’ll have lifejackets,” said Kathy.
“I’ll have to work.”
“We’ll bring a piano.”
“All my houseplants will die,” said Cosmo.
“All your houseplants are fake,” she said. This was true, although he wasn’t sure how she knew since she’d never been to his house. She sighed. “Remember the night of that first screening, when you were about to expose Lina and instead of explaining what was happening, Don told me I had to sing, that I didn’t have a choice?”
He winced, thinking of Kathy’s heartbroken, tear-stained face before they’d pulled up the curtain and revealed who was really singing when Lina moved her lips.
“Yes, and I feel just awful about it.”
“Well, Don doesn’t,” said Kathy. “Because he knew it would take too long to convince me to do something that mean to her.”
“Mean?” Cosmo echoed. “She tried to trap you in a lifelong contract and steal your voice. A common sea witch wouldn’t stoop so low.”
“But there wasn’t time,” she pressed. “And anyway, he knew how it would end.”
“What’s your point?”
“We already bought your tickets,” said Kathy.
Cosmo gaped at her.
“We’ve cleared the trip with everyone at Monumental and anyway, like I said, we’ll have a piano on the boat.”
Distantly, he was aware his mouth was still hanging open. Kathy reached over with one light finger under his chin and gently closed it.
“That’s better,” she said, folding her hands daintily in her lap. It was around this time she seemed to realize it wasn’t some routine, that Cosmo really was well and truly stunned. “Of course, nobody is going to force you to go with us if you truly don’t want to,” she said into the silence.
“These tickets,” he said at last, “are they refundable?”
“Gosh,” said Kathy easily, “I can’t imagine they are, no.”
The thing was, none of them were hurting for money or work anymore, so the fact that Don and Kathy might be out even a few hundred dollars didn’t catch at him the way it might’ve some years earlier. No, the thought that really seized his imagination was the mental image of Don and Kathy planning this together, Don and Kathy discussing the matter with each other, maybe over breakfast—toast and coffee in their dressing gowns, so sure it was the right thing to do that they’d decided to just go ahead and make preparations: oh and a ticket for Cosmo, of course.
He could do it, he realized. He could go. He wanted to go. It was foolish, but Cosmo was an entertainer; he’d been doing foolish things in front of a roomful of witnesses since he was in shortpants.
“I’ll pack tonight,” he said.
“Perfect!” Kathy hopped off the bench and straightened out her dress. “And bring something nice to wear at dinner for a night or two; it doesn’t need to be black-tie formal, a good suit will do.”
He nodded. “I shall leave the top hat and monocle at home. Two weeks, you say?”
“Yes, and another half-day on either side flying to the harbor and back.” She reached into her coat pocket, and pulled out a folded sheet of paper. “The itinerary,” she said. “Don and I are so glad you’ll be coming.”
“Uh-huh,” said Cosmo. “Say, where is that fella, anyway? What’s the big idea, can’t even stick around to ask his best pal to his own honeymoon?”
“He’s planning the trip,” said Kathy brightly. “Last-minute details. Anyway, he thought you and I should have a chat, one on one. He thought it might help.”
He blinked. “Help what?”
“Help us,” she said.
It was all starting to feel like a farce, like one of those old Vaudeville acts with a lot of fast talking.
“Did it?” he asked.
“I think so,” said Kathy warmly. She turned and began to walk towards the door. “See you at the airport tomorrow. Six AM sharp.”
“Six AM,” he said, and then, foolishly, “You know, I can see why he likes you.”
Kathy dimpled. “Oh, likewise!” She tossed him another smile and then she was heading out of sight down the hallway, shoes clacking rhythmically on the tile.
“Well,” said Cosmo to no one. He felt pole-axed, he decided. He wasn’t sure he had ever felt pole-axed in his life before, but there was no other word for it.
He played a chord, then another chord, then a few more.
“Pole-axed,” he sang, “out of whack, when you are near there’s only one drawback: I can’t be clever, no I lack the knack, Darling, I’m pole-axed, out of whack around you!”
It wasn’t exactly Cole Porter, but he’d take it, he thought, reaching for his pen. There was still an hour or two left before he’d need to race traffic home and dig out his suitcase. Apparently, he had early morning plans.
(ETA: if you didn't see, there is now a second part here!)
(ETA THE SECOND: the whole finished thing is now here!

It was around 3am on a Saturday morning, the dim lights of the city illuminating your room, the light sound of the rain hitting your window, it was the perfect set up to cuddle with your cat while you watched kdramas on your bed.
Your eyes felt heavy, your body was comfortable in the coziness of your bed, slowly closing them you felt how you drifted to a slumber sleep.
Maybe it was the loud thunder or the cries of you cat, but you jumped out of your bed, annoyed and scared as you heard your doorbell ringing nonstop. You walked towards the door slowly trying to make no sound.
Stumbling through the darkness you grabbed an umbrella, just in case you had to defend yourself— your mouth was slightly parted as you spotted the brun haired boy standing in front of your apartment door. His face had few bruises and scratches, seems like he got into a fight. He kept ringing the doorbell, you brain trying to decide whether you should open it or not.
You met Minho at a club about two years ago, he was a mutual friend— however, you two never seemed to click, always getting on each others neck; you didn’t really considered him a friend but he was always around cause he was part of your friend group.
The sudden silence that echoed your apartment made you snap out of your thoughts, peeping again through the peephole you spotted him with a concerned face as he stared to his side, panic filling his eyes.
In that moment you knew he was in desperate need of help, you snatched open your door and pulled him in, locking your door and hoping whatever was after him didn’t notice he went inside your apartment.
“Took you long enough” He scoffed, carefully touching his busted lips. You looked at him up and down annoyed, some of his wounds were dripping blood and his cloth were dirty “Don’t make me snitch on you” He smirked as he leaned forward “I know you are an asshole but you would never” He said with his raspy voice— You simply rolled your eyes at him, looking at him from head to toes once again.
“Why are you here?” You questioned him, arms wrapping in front of you chest— you looked pissed “None of your business” he spat, making you scoff once again “It is when you come to my house beaten up at 3am” You said in disbelief.
A small smile adorned his face as he looked at you mischievously, he always loved pushing your buttons, it gave him some sort of satisfaction “You won’t like the real reason of why I’m here. So lets pretend am being chased by a thief” Your eyes widen in disbelief “A thief chasing you?!? And you brought him to my apartment building? You want to get me killed or something? He shrugged and looked at you “maybe? It was the first place that came to mind”
You seriously couldn’t stand him, how dare he come to your apartment this late all beaten up and with a criminal chasing after him. It was also the audacity he had to talk about it like it wasn’t a big deal.
“You are seriously going to kill me someday” You sighed as you grabbed his arm and walked him to your bathroom “What are you doing” You signaled him to sat on the toilet “Isn’t it obvious?” You said annoyed as you searched for a first aid kit in the bathroom drawer.
He looked at you as you grabbed a towel and poured some hydrogen peroxide. You were wearing your silk pijama dress, it looked as delicate as you, your puffy eyes and messy hair gave him a hint that you were probably sleeping before he came to interrupt.
You walked towards him and kneeled in front of him, snapping him out of his thoughts once you carefully tapped the towel on his face. He hissed at the contact, the hydrogen peroxide burning his skin “Fuck” he yelp “Don’t be a bitch be gentle” he spat as he grabbed the counter besides him.
You laughed at his squirming “Stop being a baby” You teased— He straighten his body and looked deeply into your eyes “Im not a baby” He scoffed, swallowing his pain. It was quiet for a second, his heartbeat and breathing being audible, for some reason it brought you some kind of comfort.
“You need to stop staying too late at clubs” you mumbled while continuing to clean his wounds. He rolled his eyes “Aweee you care about me??” He said in a playful tone while tilting his head, a smug adorning his face.
You shook your head “Don’t make this about yourself, I’m just saying so you never come back to my house at this hours” He doesn’t know why but your words sting his heart, He doesn’t want to admit it but it does.
He scoffed “Says the slut that always passes out at the clubs” You stop cleaning him and looked at him, anger filling your eyes “What did you say?” He leaned closer to your face “I’m pretty sure you heard me loud and clear” He gave you a thin smile.
You never knew why Minho was like this, always defensive. No matter the situation— he always had something to say about you “I don’t get why you are being so defensive right now” You say softly as your gaze moves back to his scratches, this time pressing the towel hard on his wounds. He hisses and throws his head back.
“You did that on purpose” He groans, his eyes tight shut “Did I? I’m sorry” You proceed to press even harder, liquid dripping from the towel to his wounds. He moves one of his hands to grabs yours, both of you forcing against each other.
“Let go” You hissed, trying to remove your hand from his strong grip, however, he wouldn’t budge “I’m tired of you” He said out of nowhere, you stop forcing and looked at him confused. “Excuse me? You tired of me? You are the one interrupting my sleep” At this point you thought Minho was a social experiment to test how long it would take for you to reach your limit.
It was quiet for a minute until he started talking “You are always batting your pretty lashes at anyone who walks your way” He probably noticed by your face that you were confused as hell in that moment, he scoffed “Now you are pretending you don’t know” You tilted your head to lock eyes with his “I know what you mean, I’m aware of my actions, however I don’t get how that involves you” He took a deep breath and mumbled something you didn’t quite catch.
“Oh c’mon, let’s be for real” He doesn’t really know why this conversation is frustrating him so much, its not like he cared or at least thats what he told himself “I was at our usual club making out with this hot chick when I heard the people besides us talking about you” He stopped his words, his hands turning into fists
“They were talking some nasty shit about you” He scoffed leaning his face closer to yours “Now don’t get me wrong, It’s not like I care about you, but the way they see you as a dirty little slut pissed me off” Minho didn’t realize he was still holding your arm until you squirmed at his grip, he let you go and gave you apologetic eyes before continuing “I stood up and next thing I know I was fighting against 5 guys, funny thing is not the first time I defend you like that”
You were aware of your flirty persona, always giving men false hopes in exchange of free drinks, however, you never expected for people to gather around and slut shame you. You have never slept with someone after a clubbing night, you were disgusted and uncomfortable, you didn’t like the image that was going on around about you.
Your gaze moved back to Minho’s he had a face of disgust, you were unsure if his expression was like that because of you or because of what those guys were doing, either way it didn’t feel nice.
Seeing that no words were coming out of your mouth he continued talking “Im so tired of protecting you behind your back” He sighed “I’m always getting in trouble because you can’t keep your cunt dry” Although you appreciate his gesture of protecting you— it pisses you off the way he is talking to you, personally you believe theres better ways to say this type of things.
“Well I never asked for your help did I?” You threw the towel to the side and stood up, his body mimicking yours and following you to the kitchen. You grabbed a cup of water and took a sip of it “So what? Should I just sit there and hear how they treat you like a slut?” He scoffed. Those words marked you limit, your body automatically throwing the cup of water to his face, your face was red in anger.
His laugh echoed in your head like an annoying fly, he tried drying his face as you stood up there looking how he laugh uncontrollably. You hated the way he could make you feel like nothing in matter of seconds, tears threaten to fall from your eyes but you refused to let him see you cry.
“I’m sorry” he chuckled “Im aware I crossed the line, however…” He walked closer to you, making you stumble as you take few steps back until your back hit the counter “You seriously need to stop giving me troubles, I just know they banned me from that club” He sighed frustrated, you look at him for a second noticing a drop of blood rolling down his chin from his lip.
Gently you swiped the blood away with your finger “Let me get you a band aid” The atmosphere felt dense, it was awkward. He genuinely felt bad for crossing the line, however, he wasn’t good with words so he had no clue how to apologize.
You took him again to the bathroom finishing to clean his wounds, as you finished up by putting a band aid on the corner of his lip you spoke “You should stay for the night” You spoke softly looking at his eyes “But… I took my couch to the dry clean so… you can stay on my bed” His initial answer was to reject the offer and walk home, however, he felt like he was under a spell as you spoke to him so softly so… caring.
He cursed under his breath, eyes looking at you unsure “Are you sure you are comfortable with that?” He questioned afraid this was some type of prank— You slightly nodded “Knowing the type of crybaby you are I can’t make you walk home covered in wounds, I just know you will accuse me with Jisung” You scoff, cleaning up the area. He chuckled “You have a good point right there”

It was around 6am you could feel the light sunlight creeping in your curtains, you groan your eyes slowly opening. You tried to move, however, you couldn’t— you look down to see what was stopping you, your breath hitching as you see Minho’s arm wrapped around your waist. That’s when it hit you. The soft breath hitting your neck, he was cuddling you in his sleep.
You tried to ignore it, his arm around your waist, his warm breath hitting your neck, the way your pajama dress rolled up to your mid ass. But there was one thing you couldn’t ignore. His morning wood, the way it was pressed against your almost bare ass.
You closed your eyes shut trying to think on other things, get some distraction. You hated to admit you were getting turned on by the second. Your body froze as you felt him shifting on the bed, his body only pressing closer towards yours, he snuggled his head on the crook of your neck.
He mumbled softly “Are you awake?” His words tickled your neck, slightly squirming under him. You nodded, you couldn’t dare and use your words, afraid your voice might sound shaky or unstable. He hummed at your response “Im sorry…” He lightly rubbed your belly with his thumb “I can’t control it” He said embarrassed, slowly moving away from your body.
“Do you mind if I use your shower?” He asked his eyes wide open looking at the ceiling “Sure” You said nonchalantly, slightly disappointed at the lack of his body warmth. He stood up and left to the shower, after that you two shared breakfast. It was rather silent as you both drank your coffee, no one knew what to say or what to do…
The moment he left your apartment you felt a weight leaving your shoulders— you could finally breathe in peace, you look down to stare at the kitty rubbing against your legs, “What am I going to do” You squirmed running to your bedroom. Once there you threw yourself on your bed, kicking your feet and screaming on the pillow replaying the moment in your head. You grabbed your phone to call your best friend asap.
You hoped she would kick some sense into you… however, she left you feeling even more confused about Minho, her words being “Maybe you too should have sex to break the tension” The thought of having sex with Minho made you wanna puke, not in a bad way but in a way you can’t really describe.
. • °⛓✧༺ ༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚⛓ . • °⛓✧༺ ༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚
“Literally what the hell is wrong with you” You snatched your arm from his grip. You where at a frat party with your friends, you were hooking up with someone when Minho basically dragged you to an empty room.
“What’s wrong with me? More like whats wrong with you” He snarked back, his eyes looking like big dark orbs. “Well I was having some fun until you came” You said at him annoyed, you have no idea what his business was here but it was pissing you off.
He chuckled, his laugh echoing in the whole room “If by having fun you mean sleeping with anyone, then go ahead” He gesture his hands towards the exit. His attitude make you confused and mad, your eyes rolling as he kept his gaze focus on yours.
“Look Minho” You took a deep breath trying to keep yourself well collected “I don’t know what your business is right now but maybe and Yeji was right when she said to fuck you to break the tension” You spat at him, your body straightened and arms crossed over your chest. He took a moment to process your words, his mouth slightly parting to say something when you spoke again.
“You are literally so annoying, always treating me like a god damn child, also picking up a fight with me, like get a damn lif-” Your words were interrupted as his lips crashed on yours, his body pushing you towards the door.
His lips felt soft and smooth against yours, his gentle touch on your face felt angelical. A moan escaped your lips as you felt his tongue touching the bottom of your lip as for asking permission to enter. The more passionate the kiss got the wetter and messy it got. Whimpers and kissing sounds lingered around the room, the back ground music from the party adding to the vibe.
The whole situation was a mess, two people that didn’t like each other craving for each other touch— its funny how unexpected life is… isn’t it?
He sat you on his lap, your hips grinding on his thigh begging for friction. He caressed your body so gently, god damn he was driving you insane. He was trying to engrave every sensation into his brain, taking in your scent, your vanilla perfumed combined with the intoxicating smell of tequila. He gasped in delight, slowly pecking your neck and nibbling your ear.
“I hate you” He groaned as you moved your hand down to touch his boner, you chuckled “Always had an impact on me like you put me on some type of smell” He whispered against your ear as he placed his hands on yours hips to help you get some friction.
You threw your head back and moaned slightly “I hate that you are not mine” He said softly, his words making you stop to look at him. His look. In that moment you felt like you were the most gorgeous woman in this earth.
The way he looked softly at you with his eyes. Minho was bad with feelings but his eyes never lie. You took a moment to process the situation, your neck felt sore, probably adorned with a couple hickeys. Your lips were plumped. The man you were sitting on had a lipstick trail from his face to his chest. His white shirt was unbuttoned, his hair was messy.
Was this a dream? You confirmed it wasn’t when he kissed you again this time, slowly more passionate… it felt intimate yet slutty. That kiss unveiled a thousand feelings that were trapped in a jar of hate. “God damn I can’t let go” He said in between kisses while groaning.
You were both getting drunk on each other, it was a passionate feeling you have never experienced before, the fact he was someone you thought you hated with your whole soul made it more intriguing… more risky.
You two were so captive by the moment that the laugh echoing behind you was ignored by your brain until a bright light illuminated the room. Both of you jumping off each other to stare as Jisung and Yeji who were laughing their asses off.
Yeji stopped laughing to groan at Jisung “Guess I owe you $50 now” She rolled her eyes handing the money to Jisung, who kissed the money and placed it on his pocket. Jisung giggled, slowly walking out with Yeji “You too keep doing your lovers thing” He teased before closing the door.
Minho and you shared an embarrassed look before laughing “Why don’t we move this matter to my house?” You said in a mischievous tone “I don’t know what you are talking about” He teased, while buttoning his shirt “But I would love to” He smiled at you genuinely before reaching to grab your hand and walk out of the party.

100 unforgettable movie scenes: Decaying portrait of New York City in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976)
"All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. I go all over. I take people to the Bronx, Brooklyn, I take 'em to Harlem. I don't care. Don't make no difference to me. It does to some. Some won't even take spooks. Don't make no difference to me."

chapter five — j.f. ( masterlist )
IT’S TIME TO GO.
Tumblr media
“or that moment again,
he’s insisting that friends look at each other like that.”

you sit at the house all day, laying in bed and waiting for the hangover to pass. belly went with laurel and susannah to shop for debutante dresses, steven and jeremiah were working, and you had no idea where conrad went, so you had the house to yourself. the next few days passed in a similar blur, where belly prepared for her debutante ball and hung out with a guy who jeremiah called ‘cam cameron’, who you found out later that she had met at the bonfire.
one particular day, you were sitting on the couch, re-reading your favorite book for probably the thousandth time. jeremiah had gone to work early that morning, but he had come to your room and said goodbye to you before he left. he had done that a lot recently, ever since the bonfire. you wondered if part of him just felt bad for you, but you didn’t mind even if that was the case. it felt good to have someone checking up on you. especially him.
laurel and susannah were devastated for you when you finally told them the news about peter and cassie the night after it happened. laurel was immediately on her feet, absolutely pissed, mumbling about how much she— and you— had done for cassie and how much of a backstabbing bitch she was. susannah had gathered you in her arms, holding you tight. she reassured you that you would do much better someday and while friends and lovers come and go, family is forever, and she reminded you that you were surrounded by your family now and to cherish that. that night, you couldn’t sleep, so you snuck into laurel’s room and asked her to move over so you could stay with her, just like you did when you were a kid. she was happy to have you there with her. after that night, and the continued support you got from everyone, you really were feeling much better. the reality did kick in, though, and you began to be very bored during the days while everyone was living their lives. you had spent so much time worrying about peter that you forgot about your real life. you considered getting a job. you decided that was a future you problem. for now, you were going to read and chill on the beach. maybe next week you’ll find a job.
as you’re lost in your book, your trance is broken by a loud crack of thunder outside. it was so sudden that it made you physically jump from your position spread out on the couch to completely sitting upright. you look outside and your eyes widen. the sky was so intensely dark that you wondered how you didn’t notice the lighting in the entire house dim. a few moments later, the rain begins to pour down, falling in literal sheets. you didn’t start to panic until the wind picked up and the next rumble of thunder shook the entire house. you shot up from the couch, your mind immediately racing, trying to think of where everyone else was, and trying to figure out if there was anything you needed to do to keep the house safe from the storm. suddenly, you remember that conrad was at the beach. everyone else was out somewhere where they could definitely find shelter, but conrad had gone surfing just an hour ago. your heart began to race as you ran to the door, trying to see out to the beach. but, the visibility was terrible. the wind was insane, and the rain would not stop coming. you pull out your phone and text him, which you figure is a long shot, but it was worth a try. while you had your phone out, other texts began to flood in.
belly: hey, u okay? storm picked up pretty fast. powers out at the club, they’re sending us home as soon as it calms down a bit
laurel: Are you and Conrad the only ones home? Are you guys okay? Go into the basement if you get too worried or if the wind picks up more. Keep me updated.
steven: hey, you okay? is conrad with you?
jeremiah: this storm is WILD. stay inside, i’ll be home soon. no lifeguarding when the weather could kill you!😋
as you’re reading everyone’s messages, the sliding door opens. your head shoots up and you breathe a sigh of relief at the sight of conrad, completely drenched, standing on the mat inside the door. you throw your phone down and immediately hug him tightly, not caring that he was all wet. “thank god you’re okay.”
he hesitates, but hugs you back. “yeah. saw the storm coming, but still got caught in it. you okay?”
you pull back and nod. “me? i’m fine. you scared me shitless, though.”
“sorry,” he smiles sheepishly. “where’s everyone else?”
“belly and jere are at the club, but they’ll be back soon they say. i think steven’s there too. i don’t know about our moms. they were super weird when they left, just said they had to go into town and they’d be back later. i’ve heard from my mom, though.”
conrad’s face drops when you mention your moms and their secrecy. he runs his hand through his hair and sighs. “alright. i’m gonna go change. let me know if you hear anything else. and uh, stay away from the windows, okay?”
you nod and he walks past you and up the stairs. honestly, that was the most you had talked to him since you guys got to cousins. but, as jeremiah and belly both told you, there was something going on with him. you knew that there was nothing anyone could do about it, though. conrad was stubborn. he was going to figure this out on his own, and reach out when he was ready. at least, that’s what you kept telling yourself.
a minute after conrad disappears up the stairs, the power goes out. you groan in frustration, taking note of the immediate drop in temperature and the very little light inside the house. in a house with so many windows, you’d think it would not get that dark. today though, with the conditions of the grey sky and never ending rain, there was no natural light coming in. luckily, you knew that susannah always had candles, so after searching a few cabinets, you found her collection. you lit a bunch of them with matches, placing them all around the downstairs to attempt to spread the light. then, you lit the fireplace, hoping to add some warmth to the room. in anticipation of everyone else getting home, you grab some blankets from the closet and put them on the couch, finding the softest one and wrapping it around your own body.
a moment later, to your surprise, the front door creeks open. you peek around the corner (making sure it wasn’t a murderer first), and sigh when you see that it’s steven, belly, and jeremiah, all drenched from the rain, just like conrad was.
“what are you guys doing here?” you ask, moving towards them. “i figured you’d be at the club a while. the roads are too shitty to be driving on.”
jeremiah and steven share a nervous look, then look back at you. “i uh—” jeremiah starts. “i drove us back.”
“you what?” you ask, your face dropping.
jeremiah took a step towards you. “(y/n), i know. but listen, we were all so worried about you and conrad being here alone. we just figured it was safer for all of us if we came home. and the drive wasn’t even bad, i promise. we made it here, right? we’re okay!”
“you could’ve died, jeremiah,” you say. “you could’ve killed yourself or belly or steven or all of you. they close the roads when it storms like this for a reason.”
“he drove really well,” steven chimes in. “like, even better than usual. and you know that jere’s like the best driver. it really was okay.”
you sigh and look at all three of them. they all had guilty yet worried expressions on their faces, and belly wouldn’t even look at you. you sigh. “you’re all idiots. go change, guys. i got the fire going in the living room when you’re done.”
“yes ma’am!” steven salutes you and trudges up the stairs, belly following close behind. jeremiah stays for a moment, facing you.
“(y/n), i’m sorry. i really am. i just…we figured that family needs to stay together. and when the power went out, we were just worried about you guys here. conrad’s okay, right?” jeremiah sidetracks. you nod and point upstairs and he sighs. “okay good. just, don’t be mad. please. i promise we didn’t mean to worry you.”
you sigh and rest your forehead on his shoulder. “not mad at you. i just…freaked out. that really was a terrible thing, jere. i don’t know what i would’ve done if something happened to you guys.”
he wraps his arms around you and squeezes you lightly. “you don’t have to think about that. we made it.”
“i know. i just wish you would’ve stayed where it was safe so the thought didn’t have to exist at all.”
“you’re happy we’re here, though,” jeremiah teases. you push him away lightly, shaking your head.
“whatever. go change. check on conrad while you’re up there.”
“whatever you say,” he gives you one last smile before heading up the stairs. you turn back to the living room, throwing yourself down onto your favorite spot on the couch. eventually, belly appears in the doorway. you hold your blanketed arm out and she sits next to you, wrapping the blanket over her shoulders. her skin is cold next to you, so you grab another blanket and lay it over her. she rests her head on your shoulder.
“sorry we almost died,” she says after a few minutes. you sigh.
“it’s okay, bells. i’m just glad you guys are okay,” you say. “how was your practice today?”
she shrugs. “it was fine. it was dance practice, though. and i was alone. i just…i gotta figure out who’s gonna escort me soon or else i’m gonna get in so much trouble.”
“what about cam? i thought you were gonna ask him.”
belly stretches. “i uh, broke things off with him, actually.”
“you did?” you ask, shocked. “why?”
“conrad’s been, um, different with me lately. a good different. i just have thought, maybe…” she trails off, her eyes focused on her lap. you bump her shoulder with yours lightly.
“just be careful with your heart, bells. make sure you know what you’re getting into before you dive headfirst, okay?”
belly nods. “i know. thank you.”
she settles back on your shoulder and the two of you sit in comfortable silence for a while. soon enough, jeremiah comes back downstairs, steven close behind him. steven immediately grabs a blanket and beelines for a spot on the floor next to the fire.
“this feels incredible.”
you smile. “we’re just lucky susannah put wood in there recently. otherwise we would’ve been screwed.”
“hey, uh, where is she?” jeremiah asks, as if he had just noticed her absence. “and laurel?”
“they went into town earlier,” you explain. “wouldn’t tell me why. but my mom texted me not too long ago. they should be okay.”
jeremiah nods, although he seems somewhat unconvinced. “okay. thank you.”
before you can say anything else, he disappears into the kitchen. belly calls out, “don’t open the fridge!” and he laughs. “i know!”
eventually, conrad joins you guys in the living room and you’re all sprawled out, talking and laughing like you used to do a lot when you were kids. as you’ve gotten older, all of you were still close, but had definitely grown apart from where you were as young kids. things change as you grow up, people change. as much as it hurt, it truly was inevitable for anyone. but this, this felt like it used to. these people felt like home.
“oh my god do you guys remember that one time when we were at the boardwalk and conrad puked after the tilt-a-whirl so belly ran away and we couldn’t find her for an hour?” steven says. you all burst into laughter, even belly, who’s cheeks turned slightly pink.
“it was gross! i wanted to get away from it, then i got lost. i cried that entire hour.”
“we’ve gotta go back to the boardwalk this summer,” you say after you all stopped laughing as hard. “we haven’t been in years! i miss it there!”
“yes please!” jeremiah exclaims. “i hear they’ve added more rides that are like, utterly terrifying.”
“that’s…definitely something to be excited about,” belly says sarcastically. “but yes, definitely we’ve gotta go. maybe after deb season is over, though. i just feel like i have too much going on right now as it is.”
“oh yeah,” steven says. “bells, who are you bringing as your escort? isn’t the deadline like, the end of the week? the ball is in like less than three weeks.”
belly casts a quick look at conrad, but almost immediately after they lock eyes, she looks away. “i…don’t know. i’ll figure it out. i hope.”
“i can take you if you want, bells,” jeremiah pipes up. everyone looks at him, shocked. your heart drops. “i mean, i was at your dance lesson today. i know a lot of what goes on. and i know i’ve got a suit somewhere. if you don’t find anyone else, just let me know.”
belly grins at him. “thank you, jere. i’ll probably take you up on that.”
the two of them share a smile and you look down at your hands, your stomach suddenly in knots. did he really just offer to be an escort for belly? after all his big talk about never participating last year? out of everyone in cousins, belly was the exception for him? suddenly, you felt like an idiot. of course she was the exception. they’ve always been best friends. you felt so stupid for ever thinking that maybe things were shifting to more for the two of you. it was for the better, anyways, right? he could be belly’s escort to the ball, you could watch them be perfect together, and pretend it didn’t bother you. exactly like how you had acted every summer before now while jeremiah flirted with other people. nothing had to change. you just had to get these thoughts out of your head.
you’re broken out of your thoughts by belly bumping your shoulder with hers. “(y/n)? you good?”
“huh?” you look at her, suddenly aware you had been just staring at nothing. “oh. yeah, i’m fine,” you take a quick glance at jeremiah, who suddenly is really interested in his blanket. you stand up abruptly. “i’ll just, i’ll be back.”
before anyone can say anything, you go upstairs, and close your bedroom door behind you. you felt terrible for ruining the good vibe that the five of you had going, but you really were starting to feel sick. as much as you tried to suppress your feelings for jeremiah, it really wasn’t ever going to work. you would forever feel this pathetic longing for him; always be the one pining. it wasn’t fair, honestly. he was the one who constantly flirted with you and went out of his way to do things to make you feel special, yet you were the only one with feelings. it was a disgusting feeling. you wished for nothing more than for it to go away. good for belly for finding someone to escort her. good for jeremiah for finding his one exception in his life. good for both of them. you just had to play supportive sister in all of this, even if it made you sick.

It’s 3:23am and you can’t sleep. Two tablets of melatonin, three cups of chamomile tea, and an endless loop of soothing rain sounds have done nothing to change that. Your heart aches, it’s unbearable, and there’s not a single thing you can do about it. Rolling onto your back, you rip the covers off, only now realizing how much you’ve been sweating from the anxiety of cycling through last night’s events over and over in your head.
None of this feels real, losing Felix and Hyunjin, the ones you love the most. Maybe it was a bad idea from the start, the three of you being together. Maybe you weren’t as well equipped to keep them both happy as you thought. Every “maybe” hangs over you as if it’s written in glow-in-the-dark paint on the ceiling, taunting you from the void. Does any of it even matter now? Whatever it was that led to the eventual downfall of your relationship, the argument that ended it all, you can’t go back and fix it.
Even still, your heart longs for the possibility that you’ll be together again someday. You’ve always liked to think that when you truly love someone you’ll find each other no matter what, in this life or the next. It could be wishful thinking, the musings of a hopeless romantic. What does it hurt to wish, you figure, if that’s all you have? You take a long, deep breath in, allowing your breath to slowly flow back out as you squeeze your eyes shut. If I lay here long enough I’m bound to fall asleep. Right?
“Fuck it” you groan, popping up out of bed and throwing on your fuzzy bunny slippers. Felix thought it’d be cute if the three of you got matching pairs. You hate how right he was. You’ve been fighting tooth and nail with yourself all night not to drive down to the pier. For years it’s been the destination of endless late-night drives. It’s where you snuck away together when the rest of the world felt like it was too much. Your memories of being there, as much as they might sting, are the dearest things to you and you need to drown yourself in them now more than ever.
So, before you know it, you’re headed out the door pulling a hoodie over your head, car keys in hand, desperately seeking solace in nostalgia. It’s a long, lonely ride to the pier. The combination of empty streets and too-long traffic lights gives you the sense that the world has come to a screeching halt. Whether it has or not for everyone else, it has for you. The light flashes neon green, bringing you back down to earth just as you begin to drift away, and you’re making the right turn that takes you to your usual parking spot.
Turning the car off, you take a moment to sit and inspect the other cars around you. There are a few on your side, a dozen more on the other, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone out here. Probably all people who live nearby. Confident that you’re alone, the wall you’ve put up comes crumbling down, tears falling down your cheek faster than you can wipe them away. Why am I doing this to myself? You shake your body in what would look to a passerby like a cute, albeit strange, dance of sorts in hopes that some of the emotions overwhelming you will fall away like leaves.
Get it together. Summoning all of the courage you have, you make your way to the stairs leading up to the pier. You almost slip on the gritty, sand-coated steps, but manage to make it to the top without breaking your neck. As you venture forward you already hear the waves crashing to shore. You feel the stars watching you, their gaze intense and overwhelming. Only it’s not their gaze at all. There’s someone at the end of the pier staring back at you, teary-eyed and stunned. That intensity, that overwhelming emotion, it’s his.
Felix? No, no, no. You turn on your heels, racing back to the car before you lose it completely. “Wait!” he yells, running after you. Felix hadn’t expected to see you here either. He’d typed a million text messages asking you to come but he’d deleted all of them, thinking you wouldn’t want to see him with everything being so fresh. He’s been wishing too, as much as you have, and he can’t let this moment slip away. Your car door’s halfway open when he reaches you, your fingers held tightly around the handle.
“Can we talk?” he asks, his hushed voice skimming your neck as he pushes the door closed. You don’t fight him. You don’t want to. The feeling of his chest against your back, the wind blowing his hair so that it tickles your cheek, makes you want to melt into him. Turning to face him, melting is the first thing you do, straight into his arms. He doesn’t hesitate to hold you tight to him, the tension soothed by the simple act of having you near him again. “I’m really sorry” you weep, “I should’ve seen that you weren’t happy.”
Felix shushes you, his fingers stroking your neck, “Stop, don’t say that. I was happy. Me and Hyunjin…working with each other, we just get frustrated sometimes and it wasn’t supposed to come home but it did. I should be sorry” “What? No invite to the family reunion?” you hear Hyunjin ask and you’re positive that you’re hallucinating. But when you look up he’s standing there staring at the two of you with an expression you can’t quite make out. “I…no…we didn’t…” Felix stutters but Hyunjin’s already walking away, heading for the edge of the pier, ignoring you like you’re strangers.
You’re so much more than that and he knows it. Enough time hasn’t passed for him to erase what you shared from his mind. Even if he could, he wouldn't. Why else would he be here? Hyunjin shoves his hands in his pockets, stopping to make a half-turn toward you. “If I admit I’m an asshole will you come with me?” “I mean, we already know you’re an asshole so…no” Felix teases, getting a laugh out of both of you. “What if I say I’m sorry and that I’d really like to not be alone…to be with you two?” A long stretch of silence separates his question and your answer.
“Wait up,” you smile, taking Felix’s hand and dragging him along with you to catch up to Hyunjin. Meeting him at the center of the pier, you take his hand too and the three of you walk to the edge together. Any other time the minutes would fly by, all of the laughter and kisses making hours feel like minutes. But, in the presence of lingering pain, minutes feel like hours. “It’s not the same,” Hyunjin sighs, picking at his already chipped nail polish and flicking it into the sea. You want to deny it but you can’t. “No, it’s not.” Felix sits down, crossing his legs as he frustratingly tousles his hair, “So that’s it, then? We’re done?”
You take a seat beside him on the ground, sick to your stomach at the thought, “I mean, is that what you want?” “Of course not. It’s never what I wanted. We are what I want.” You turn to Hyunjin and he’s already sitting down on the other side of you, his head resting on your shoulder. “Me too” he yawns, “But what about you? It doesn’t matter what we want if you don’t—” “I do. I always will.” Their faces brighten up, even in the midst of their exhaustion. Felix takes his jacket off, gathers it in a little bundle in your lap, and lays down. “Maybe it shouldn’t feel the same this time,” he muses, “We should make it better.”
You pet Felix’s hair, “I’d like that.” Hyunjin nuzzles up closer to you, seconds from falling asleep, “Better sounds nice.” Stroking Hyunjin’s cheek, you lean into him too, every sleep aid you tried kicking in at once. Suddenly the world feels like it’s moving again, bursting with life even in the dead of night.
You’ve always liked to think that when you truly love someone you’ll find each other no matter what, in this life or the next. How beautiful it is that it turned out to be this one after all.

“You might have to ask yourself, however right your claim is, if you are the leader the realm needs and wants.”
“You’re Royal. Get used to it and that involves a lot of burdens and things you don’t want to do.”
“I’m in awe of you, Rowan Palotay.”
“Slow down there, princess. How do you know what kind of first impression you gave me?”
“Prayer is a royal power.”
“You forget yourself and who you are speaking of.”
“Anyone young, famous and beautiful who dies young is forever frozen in time and fascinating to all of us.”
“Youths are the life blood of any nation.”
“I am not yet come of age, my lord. How can I be queen?”
“To crown her is to kill her.”
“He didn't marry you to become king. He became king because he wanted to marry you.”
“Little by little, the old world crumbled, and not once did the king imagine that some of the pieces might fall on him.”
“I believe we are what we make ourselves, and as such, you, Crown Princess, are nothing.”
“Rule with the heart of a servant. Serve with the heart of a king.”
“There’s a fine line between gossip and history, when one is talking about kings.”
“We kings do develop a certain ability to recognize objects under our noses.”

“The idea that how you are born or the name you are given dictate the sort of person you really are.”

“People are born great but yet need to grow into greatness”
“Kings needn’t raise their voices to be heard.”

“Will you visit my chambers tonight?”
“A throne won in blood will soon be drenched in it.”
“Even when she's dethroned by hardship, she still wears the sun as a crown.”
“The Princess knew in her heart she is strong, smart, and capable because it is in her blood.”
“There is the matter of succession that has to be settled. You don’t start a reign without settling how it continues.”
“My reign has been anything but traditional. Let’s not start now, shall we?”
“Every girl thinks about growing up in a palace. Few ever ponder living in a cage.”
“Often blessings and burdens comes hand in hand. The bigger the Crown the heavier the burden”

I once started playing Star Honkai and now, remembering the initial moment of the game, I can propose this idea
What if the Reader was a child or teenager who considered Kafka, the Blade, and the Silver Wolf to be family?
The Reader's real family might not be the nicest ones, so they might have run away from them at some point and bumped into these guys. Or maybe their real family is fine, they just happened to become friends with these characters and started to see them as more family figures
Just an idea based on thoughts about Kafka's mother, who I didn't want to let go of when she said goodbye to us at the beginning of the game. I don’t know, it just really got to me so emotionally. That yes, I could be just a vessel with a weapon for you, not a real person, but you are the first person I see and that makes you my parent, right? You shouldn't leave me
Perhaps someday I myself will write something in more detail about these thoughts. In the meantime, a small request for family relationships or communication between the Reader and the characters, yeah
(if you don't write for this game or these characters, that's fine)

Tumblr media
Everything started when you ran from home.
You’ve always resented your homelife; your parents were always yelling and/or fighting, your siblings have all moved out to fulfill their dreams and career paths, and you didn’t go to school very often, leaving you with few friends.
To say you lived a lonely life was an understatement.
You were running through the rain, not giving a piece of mind to where you were going and where you may end up. You looked through the windows of other houses as you were walking down the sidewalks of the xianzhou loufu, seeing families coming together, spending time together, etc. You didn’t necessarily feel like thinking about your situation right now, so you kept going, focused on the path in front of you.
As soon as you got into the Exalting Sanctum, you sat down and took a break. It felt nice to get off your feet, taking the time to scroll on your phone.
As you were about to get up to buy yourself a cup of tea, you heard someone's voice behind you.
“Psst, you, child with the h/c hair,” a woman had said, looking straight at you when you turned around to see who she was talking to. “Come here.”
You do as you say, thinking about what could happen the whole time. She didn’t look like she was from around here, and she didn’t sound like she spoke the native language.
“You’re not from around here, are you?” you ask, curiosity lacing your voice. She chuckled in response to your question.
“Save the questions for later. I have one for you though,” she took a seat at your table, motioning for you to sit back down. “I’ve been keeping an eye on you since you’ve left home. You seem troubled.”
You sigh, leaning back in your chair, harshly setting your phone on the table in front of you. “It’s a long story that I’d prefer not to talk about right now.”
She nodded, seeming to understand, before she got up and took your hand.
“Do you need a place to stay? If so, I am willing to provide one.”
Your eyes slightly widened at her offer, and you hesitantly nodded.
“By the way, what's your name?” she asked, starting to walk, giving you the hint to start following her. “You can just call me Kafka for now.”
“Call me… y/n,” you grinned, and she grinned back at you. You two stood shoulder to shoulder, despite the slight height difference. She seemed comfortable to you.
“Well, hello there, y/n, it’s nice to properly meet you,” she extended her arm, silently telling you to shake her hand. You do, and she pulls away rather quickly before picking up her pace. “I’m going to take you to meet a few other people, if you don’t mind.”
You stayed silent, and followed her to the destination she had in mind.
You don’t know what you expected, but it sure wasn’t what was presented in front of you.
You must have been slow, you thought, to not know Kafka was an enemy, a stellaron hunter, and she’s brought you back to the headquarters. You didn’t know if you wanted to run and shout for help or continue following her, but your feet kept stepping in the direction she was going.
“Your face makes it look like you know where we are,” she stops at last, turning around to face you. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” You nod slowly, trying to force a small grin. She laughed at your efforts, continuing her path down a long hallway with one hell of a staircase. The first office you popped into was a gray haired womans, wearing a really intricate- maybe cyberpunk outfit with a pair of blue and purple sunglasses balancing on the top of her head.
You step inside to see her feet resting on the table, a game controller in hand. Kafka knocks twice before entering, taking the controller from the woman before setting it down on the bookshelf.
“Kafka, who have you brought now?” she blew a gum bubble, rolling her eyes slightly.
“This is y/n. They’ve run from home, and I feel generous today, so I’m letting them stay temporarily,” she took a seat on the leather sofa on the other side of the room, taking some warm water from the pot in front of her, and plopping a teabag into the mug. “Would you two like any?” You shook your head, and the woman just looked at Kafka.
“So, what's your name?” you ask, and the woman goes a little wide-eyed at your question. She settles before answering.
“Silverwolf. I am Silverwolf.”
“Nice to meet you,” you smiled slightly, and she admired your boldness. Talking so casually in front of a stellaron hunter? Do you even know who she is? Yes, yes you do, and you felt incredibly intimidated.
Kafka soon led you out of the room, taking you to meet one other person, who she claims isn’t the greatest communicator and will likely not speak very much. She told you not to take it to heart, and he might warm up after a few weeks.
“Am I even going to be here for a few weeks?” you tilt your head, and she chuckles once more.
“I don’t know, it’s up to you.”
She stepped right into the other person's office- this person looked a lot different from the other one you just met. Instead of seeing colors and hearing clicking noises, the room was dead silent with a coat of dark paint on the walls. Everything seemed so bland in this room, and a man sat in the grand leather chair behind the desk in the middle of the room, completely ignoring your entrance. He looks up at Kafka, his eyes saying it all.
“This is y/n. I found them outside in the Exalting Sanctum and I decided to bring them back. They ran away from home.”
He nodded.
“Awh, is someone shy?” Kafka lightly teased the man, making him get out of his seat and come over to where the both of you were standing. “Get used to their presence, because I don’t know how long they’re staying. Oh, y/n, this man's name is Blade.”
“Hello,” you say carefully, not wanting to pinch a nerve. This man looked capable of aggression, and he most certainly was.
He nodded back at you, and that was the last communication you’ve had with him that night.
The days seemed to continue that way. You’d occasionally stay with them, but you’d go back home when they were on missions. They’d explain how dangerous they could be, and Silverwolf would provide you with stories from her travels.
“And you’ll never guess what. The Trailblazer had to fight Kafka, and they won! I won’t let her live this one down…”
“Look, I found this in Penacony. It’s a really cool place, I think you’d like it.”
She’d sometimes bring you back little souvenirs. You’d always accept them with so much gratitude, and, depending on how important they are to your or how expensive they were, they’d either stay at your home or your room in the headquarters.
Though, to say it took a long, long time for them to warm up to you in such a way is an understatement. We’re talking around 6 months, or whatever amount of time that adds up to in their universe.
But once they did, they seemed to really enjoy your company. They treated you like they were your biological parents, they’d always have so much adoration and care in their eyes when they’d look at you, and they loved to spoil you.
Considering they’re stellaron hunters, they probably make a good sum of money. Silverwolf has tried to make you take on her interest in video games, so you two could play together and have something in common, and it’s kind of working! She starts you off with a cheaper console, but she ends up upgrading yours when you show more liking and interest into the games she also likes.
Kafka likes to just have little gossip sessions with you!! Or at least I feel like she would. Oh god she so would.
She’d get so into it, especially if you were a girl. Boy drama? She wants to hear every single thing about it! But if you’re a boy and you have girl drama, she wants to hear too! But she’ll try to give more advice on how to get the girl you want (and it almost always works).
And with friendship drama, she’ll always be the one to step in if necessary. She’s not gonna be one of those people who just step into their kids drama (those people absolutely suck) but she’ll get in if she needs to. She wants to hear all about it though.
Blade is a little bit different with his ways of showing his appreciation and adoration towards you. Usually, you understand that even being in his presence is enough, and him allowing you to talk his ear off is a pretty big feat in itself.
He likes to hear you talk, and especially likes to have deep conversations, me thinks. He’s the type of person to not as easily be engaged in small talk, so very deep, detailed conversations pull his attention right away.
Overall, the three of them care for you like you’re their blood. And at this point, they’re more like parents than yours are, so you can talk about them as if they really were your blood without any hesitations. At the end of the day, you’re lucky to have such people surrounding you.

For the past couple of days, I've been tossing around the idea of an iterator OC who is focused around astronomy. I love astronomy, and there's a conspicuous lack of any information about it in Rain World, which I find pretty intriguing. (I made a post about some of my random theories here.) So, I started to think about what an iterator specifically designed to study astronomy might be like. I named them Three Stars Above Clouds (in reference to Orion's belt, because I can't help but put references to Orion in everything I do, I guess). I actually ended up having a lot of thoughts about them, which I'll detail below. (Warning, there's A Lot.)
Three Stars Above Clouds (TSAC) was designed and built by a splinter group of Ancients who believed the Solution to the Great Problem wouldn't be found deep underground, but in the sky. TSAC was created in order to help them collect data about the sky, house their institutions, and conduct research. They were built into a mountain range, where clouds are less likely to form and the air is thinner. (Real world observatories are often built on top of mountains or in arid places like deserts in an attempt to avoid interference from clouds and rain. You can't see the stars if they're hidden behind clouds, after all.)
Three Stars Above Clouds' city is home to several large observatories which keep a constant watch on the sky. I got the idea for TSAC in part from the currently-under-construction Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (also called the Vera C. Rubin Observatory). The LSST is designed to take ultra-high-definition pictures of the entire night sky every couple of nights, in order to monitor for changes. This data will be a treasure trove for astronomers, and can be used for anything from discovering new asteroids and rogue planets, to monitoring distant galaxies for supernovae. One problem that arises from this, however, is the sheer amount of data that this telescope will produce- it's way too much for any human to hope to be able to sift through. I imagine that the Ancients who built TSAC would run into a similar problem; TSAC's observatories generate colossal amounts of data, so a large part of TSAC's duties as an iterator are to sift through and analyze this data to find anything that might be useful in finding the Solution.
Three Stars Above Clouds is relatively isolated as an iterator. They are located at a much higher altitude than their peers, in the middle of a remote mountain range. Their citizens are also somewhat isolated from Ancient society at large, due to their fringe religious beliefs. (Due to the lack of anything astronomy or space-travel related in Rain World's lore, I think the Ancients either largely don't have an interest in studying astronomy, or it's considered taboo due to their religion's focus on ascension, as well as the subterranean Void Sea.)
As for Three Stars Above Clouds themself, they have a bit of a reputation for being a loner. Other iterators sometimes see them as obsessing over something pointless, because despite the vast amounts of data TSAC has collected, so far it's turned up nothing useful in terms of the Solution. However they are sometimes contacted by iterators who might be interested in their data, either for the purpose of research or just out of curiosity. TSAC is happy to talk about their personal research to anyone who is willing to listen.
Three Stars Above Clouds worked closely with their citizens while their city was still inhabited, and misses them deeply. Despite their citizens being gone, they continue with their sky surveys, partially because the desire to do so is hard-coded into their programming, and partially because it at least gives them something to do. Deep down, TSAC is convinced that someday they will come across something extraordinary among the stars.
In order to store the immense amounts of data generated by their observatories, TSAC's city and internal structure contain a wealth of data pearls, which has inevitably led to the amassing of a large Scavenger population both in and around their structure, who regularly raid TSAC's supply of pearls. However, due to TSAC's high altitude, their external structure and surrounding mountains are also home to large colonies of Vultures, which help control the Scavenger population, at the very least. TSAC is quite fond of Vultures for this reason.
The mountains are very cold, which means Three Stars Above Clouds' rain freezes almost immediately into snow and sleet, which falls down onto the surrounding mountains. As the glaciers and snowfall on these mountains melt, the water flows down the mountains into large rivers, and is collected in several dams at ground level. These dams are home to pumping stations which pump water back up into TSAC's can. TSAC's can is fed water through a vast array of underground pipes that snake underneath and through the mountains. The upkeep of these pipes is mostly automated, however, there are some issues that only an engineer can fix. With all of TSAC's engineers gone, their pipe network is extremely prone to failure due to its complexity. They've had a dam or two break in the past, and TSAC knows that it's only a matter of time before all of their dams break and they will lose their water supply for good.
Their void fluid filtration system is also similarly complex; mine shafts are scattered throughout the mountain range and reach deep underground to access the Void Sea. Even though TSAC's ancients don't think Void Fluid is the key to ascension, they still recognize its usefulness as a potent energy source.
These networks of tunnels, pipes, mines, and maintenance stations have become home to a wide range of creatures over the cycles, many seeking refuge from the cold. Maybe there's even a colony of subterranean Slugcats running around down there.
Tumblr media
I've also made an annotated version of the drawing of TSAC's can; you can click on the alt text for transcriptions of my notes if you can't read my handwriting. One thing I forgot to note was the green lasers, those are Laser Guide Stars. (I just think they look cool.)
Tumblr media
And here's a closer look at TSAC's city, because I'm pretty proud of the way it turned out. (I even snuck the LSST in there on the left, hehe.)
Aaaand I think that's everything! If I got any of the lore wrong, I apologize. Rain World's lore is pretty vague at times, and I tried to do the best with what I know. I also have a pretty strong grasp on astronomy, but not so much on climatology and geology, so if I got some of those things wrong as well, go easy on me, haha. X]
I will say, creating an iterator is an interesting thought experiment. You need to think about the effect they have on the surrounding environment, while keeping in mind that they're sentient and also have an entire city of people living on them that they need to help manage. Iterators are fascinating to me, and I love reading about other people's OCs and seeing the ways they're able to make them unique.
If you read this far, thank you for devoting some of your time to listening to me ramble. You get a gold star: ⭐⭐⭐
Tumblr media
Edit: Here's a closeup of their in-game sprite as a reward for reading this far. Yippee

Post Series Jaya Doodles and Headcanons!🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡🌊⚡ (Bonus Next Gen Headcannons!👀)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! 😁💖 I worked really hard on this. So I hope you all enjoy! Headcanons are below the cut! - ✒️🐉
1) They have a HUGE wedding. Many friends and Family come. And I headcannon that Jay has a very big extended family so that's a lot!🤣
2) They move into the old lighthouse and fix it up/fortify it. It eventually becomes a small rest stop for ships.
3) Nya runs a mechanics shop for boats and water craft there. And Jay has a shop to sell salvage, drift wood, and knickknacks. He also does a little inventing on the side. Although it doesn't usually end well. Lol. Name ideas for their shops would be appreciated!
4) They have a LOT of kids. Five to be exact. Ray, Maya, Ed, and Edna are very proud grandparents. The kids are, in order from youngest to oldest, Piper, Ren, Wynn, Raine, and Poe. Currently I only have a design for Poe. (Seen above.) But the rest are coming. I can assure you. I'll provide some descriptions in the meantime!
Poe: Pictured above! He's very calm and charismatic. And while he's a good fighter and pirate hunter, he enjoys quieter hobbies such as painting. His main weapon is a harpoon.
Raine: Very light skinned. With curly silver hair. (Her hair color is caused by her unique elemental power, Storm!⛈️) She's a little in the small side. But still sturdy and a real fighter. She's a tough cookie! Raine eventually becomes part of the Next Gen Ninjas.
Wynn: Light skinned, with black curly hair. Always wearing a pair of flight goggles. (He's an inventor like Ed and Edna.) Eternally curious and questioning.
Ren: He's got red hair like Jay, and tan complexion like his mom. Ren's got an explorer streak and loves charting new islands. He plans to sail to the other side of Ninjago's oceans someday. He's almost never seen without Wynn. The two are inseparable.
Piper: The baby of the family! She has blonde hair like Libber. She may be little. But she's brave. Not too much on her currently. But she will have a bigger role to play in the future.
5) Cole LOVES their kids. And is very protective of them. (Like "would give his life for them" kind of protective.) He practically treats them as though they were his own. He's their bestest uncle, besides Kai.
6) Raine has a mix of both Nya and Jay's element. She's the master of Storm. She's the first case of a merged element in Ninjago history. And when she was young, it was VERY unstable. Raising a super powered baby was NOT easy.
7) They are pirate hunters. For reasons...🧞‍♂️ Anyway! Their family is known for keeping the coasts of Ninjago safe and sound. Especially their oldest boy Poe, who's shaping up to be a great pirate hunter.
8) They own a flying ship! They needed a way to get to shore fast and since they didn't have the Bounty, Nya and Jay just built one of their own. It's smaller but just the right size for them. And it's called the Storm Rider. It's even got cannons for taking down pirate ships!
(P.S. Two quick things! One, these headcanons are related to a fanseason I'm working on called Ninjago: New Genesis. So that's why they don't line up with Dragons Rising. And two, yes. I noticed Poe's eyes are miscolored in one pic. They're supposed to be brown. I didn't notice until after I finished.😂)

You kiss her head and close the door getting back to the living room. Paola returned to her apartment, and you sat by the door, wondering what to do.
You’ve had an exhausting week. The lack of sleep and the anxiety of seeing him again is eating away at you. You have nightmares. Each time the same. You are in front of his house six years earlier, begging him to let you in. The rain is falling, and you are wet. Your tears mingle with the rain, and you’re exhausted from banging on his door. You end up collapsing on the ground, curling up on yourself. The dream keeps repeating itself, and you wake up with a start every time the door opens.
Your eyes widen, and you struggle to find your breath. You frantically search around you without knowing exactly what you are looking for. You are hot. The sheets are soaked with sweat, and you sigh by passing your hand on your face. It can’t last any longer. You look at the time on the dial on your bedside table and blow more, knowing it’s just four in the morning. “So much for your sleep.” You take your phone and look at the messages you received. Your mother sent you a mem of a cat, and you smile tenderly, noticing the resemblance with Cato. Speaking of which, he enters the room discreetly and rests at the edge of the bed. "Of course, he heard me." You look at him briefly before he turns to the door.
It is not possible, this cat. No matter what time he asks for food. You whisper it is not time, and he shakes his disgruntled tail. You keep watching the news and your networks. You follow the F1 closely and pass their story one after the other. The Spanish Grand Prix is fast approaching. Delilah always dreams of going there and seeing the cars in real life. You look at the time again, and already two hours are gone. You decide to get up and start the routine.
The hours go by, and the idea is always in your head. Why not go? There is no harm. What could happen? That you meet him, that he recognizes you, that he sees Delilah, that he ignores you and ignores her at the same time and that your daughter’s little heart is broken again... Out of the question! You are on the bus back, and your mind is lost in your contacts. You are in his name. You never managed to get his number off your phone or his nickname simultaneously. Your thumbs overlook his name without touching him. Your brain hesitates, but your body seems to want to decide for itself.
The bus stops suddenly, and you press the call button. Panic invades you, and you look at your phone with big eyes. You get it near your ear.
"Sorry, the number you’re trying to reach is no longer available."
He changed his number. Surprisingly, your heart is tightening. You’ve invaded with vomiting. He changed his number. That asshole changed his number. You know it’s not necessarily your fault, but you can’t help but think about it. He didn’t even send you a message to warn you. Tears come up, but you refuse to let them down. He doesn’t deserve your tears. He abandoned you. He... he broke your heart.
You put your keys in the lock and the ball in your belly. What are you going to do now? Delilah will never recover. She wanted you to contact him so she could see him at least once. You don’t want to break that hope in her. It’s so hard. Not having her father present for her is already so hard. Not having two signatures in her school notebook. Not being related to his father’s side. Not having him at her dance shows. Not having him for her birthdays.
You open the door with a heavy heart and a full head. Delilah sits quietly in the living room and draws. She is so wise. You thank Paola, and you sit next to her.
"Delilah, cariño, escúchame." You say, caressing her long hair. "Sé que realmente quieres conocer a tu padre y yo..." Delilah, baby, listen to me. I know you really want to meet your dad, and I..."
"¿Te pusiste en contacto con él?" She asks, starry eyes.  "¿Quiere verme? ¿Dijo qué? ¿Cuándo lo vemos?" She gets increasingly excited, and you feel bad breaking her dream. Did you contact him? He wants to see me? He said what? When do we see him?
You don’t know why or how. But the lie that came out of your mouth sealed your destiny.
"Sí, e incluso dijo que lo vamos a visitar en Madrid. Vamos a pasar algún tiempo con la abuela y el abuelo." You want to bang your head against a wall. Why couldn’t you admit to your daughter that her father didn’t warn you about his number change? It wasn’t hard to say you couldn’t get in touch with him, and he didn’t want to see her… Yes, and he even said we’ll visit him in Madrid. We’re going to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa.
You got yourself in a mess.
The end of the month is here, and you get on the train to your parents' country house. You haven’t been there in five years and for good reason. Last time you were here, you were so pregnant with your daughter. Your mother begged you for weeks to come home and spend a few days trying to reconcile your relationship with your father, but he wouldn’t listen and went fishing all the time you were there.
You walked in the fields with your mother to try to get her out. You laughed when you saw Blanca in the distance. You quickly turned around to avoid her, and your mother followed you. You heard her call you, but you ignored her. Fortunately, your oversized coat hid your belly, and you could leave without further incident. You took a train ticket that night to avoid another incident, and you’re saying goodbye to your mother and hometown with big tears. A few days later, when you arrived in Fuengirola, you gave birth. You texted him to tell him she was born, but you never got an answer. So you didn’t insist, and you gave up.
The landscapes pass by, and you get to fall from the night in the small village. Delilah is asleep, and you take her off the train thanking the nice Samaritan who helped you get your bags out of the vehicle. You then found your mother waiting at the entrance of the station. She greets you with open arms and embraces tenderly the forehead of Delilah, who sleeps in your arms. You thank her kindly for taking your bags, and you head to the car. The headlights are on, and you’re surprised to see your dad sitting in the driver’s seat, but you don’t say anything. You don’t know how to react by getting closer to the car. He comes out and approaches you. No words are exchanged, but you know he forgave you. He hugs you and kisses your temple before he takes Delilah and puts her in the car seat.
The ride is quiet, and you end up falling asleep at the noise of the road. Two hours of the car are between the city center and the house. This dream-free sleep does you good, and you recover the energy that left you that last month. The vehicle is parked, and you wake up. Your eyes are looking at the garden where you spent all your childhood and the house that saw you grow up. Six years have passed. You cannot believe it. Delilah wakes up beside you, and you smile tenderly. The energy took her, and she began to admire everything around her. She greets her grandpa and grandmother warmly before running around the garden laughing.
The first few days go well. Your parents get to know your daughter, and you gradually regain your strength. You’re happy to find your father. After so many years, you’re pleased to be able to hug him and watch your favourite show together again. You took a stroll through the city and its surroundings. Delilah got a nice bike, and your father has been teaching her to do it for a few days. You talk to your mother, and you miss your complicity.
You spend a lot of time biking and enjoying nature. It changes the urban landscapes that you’re used to seeing. Delilah is riding a pony for the first time and doesn’t want to let it go. She eats pony, laughs pony, plays pony, and wants a pony.
You regret that your mother had this idea, but seeing Delilah so happy does you good. Maybe she will forget her father...You spoke with your parents about Delilah’s desire to meet her dad. To be able to see him. You talked about your fears and the hard years you’ve been through alone. Your father feels guilty that he couldn’t put his ego aside so that you could stay close to them, but you reassure him that you don’t regret anything. Seeing your daughter smile daily is worth all the trouble in the world.
You’re talking about going to a Grand Prix to find him, but you don’t want to. You’re completely lost and don’t know what to do about it. You talk about a good part of the evening, and it’s only once the big clock in the living room announces midnight that your parents decide to go to bed. You just sit out in the open, taking advantage of the summer breeze to think better. It’s already mid-July. You can’t believe that time is moving so fast. You return to your room a few minutes later with a restless but relaxed mind.
The next day, you are at the village market, and you market the various vegetables and fruit you see at the best prices. Delilah smells each product and displays a satisfied head every time the smell is sweet. The traders laugh at her adorable face and even offer her fruit for free. Delilah walks through the different stands making her little game to get as many items as possible. You sneer tenderly with your mother when you notice your daughter’s ploy.
Watch her from the corner of your eye. Her little hat with strawberries strapped to her head helps you spot her in the crowd. She is at the honey stand. You thank the seller, who hands you your bag filled with good vegetables and turns around to find your daughter. You see her talking to a stranger. You frown as you approach. If there’s one thing you don’t want her to do, it’s talk to strangers.
“Delilah, come on. Let’s go. We’re done shopping for today.” She turns to you, and the stranger raises his head. Your heart misses a beat. It’s not possible. What’s he doing there. The eyes of the unknown also open.

my girl 💌
lucy gray baird x fem reader
Lucy Gray would do anything for you. You want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? She’ll sell her soul to give you the day you deserve.
so much fluff, mentions of sex, 1.6k words
Tumblr media
Lucy Gray Baird has always thought of Valentine’s Day as a pointless, commercial event institutionalised by the Capitol.
The Covey has always rejected these kinds of capitalist holidays imposed solely for the purpose of making money, and Valentine’s Day is no exception to that rule. Lucy Gray doesn’t need the Capitol to tell her when she ought to celebrate her beloved. No, she’ll do that all year round. (As if the Covey don’t have their own festivities, anyway. Lucy Gray wakes you on every solstice with a bundle of flowers she’s picked from the woods, not bought, and poetic affirmations of her love.)
It hadn’t really occurred to her that you’d want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, to be honest. This is the first one you’ll be spending with her as her girlfriend, but you’ve known each other a long while and by now you’ve surely picked up on her indifference to the subject. This year she goes about her business as she always has, politely averting her gaze when she sees vendors at the Hob trying to pawn off Valentine-themed goods, and bringing you flowers or sweet little trinkets at any time she pleases. But if Lucy Gray is one thing, it’s hopelessly devoted to you, and she would do anything under the sun to bring a smile to your face. So when she hears you make an offhand comment to Tam Amber about wondering what this year’s Valentine’s Day will be like, her entire stance on the matter is instantly changed.
“You’re whipped beyond comprehension, Lu,” Barb Azure laughs as she watches her younger cousin fret over her plans.
“I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think of anythin’, Barb Azure, I just need your help,” Lucy Gray replies distractedly, kneading the dough of the bread she’s making with vigour. “So are you helpin’ me? Or no?”
On the morning of Valentine’s Day, Lucy Gray Baird kisses you awake, her smile so sweet you can taste it on your tongue.
“Mornin’, baby,” she says sweetly. She’s already up and dressed, and her skin is vibrant with the fresh-found dew of the morning. “Brought you flowers.”
“Morning, Lu,” your heart fills with warmth, “you’re the sweetest.”
“Happy Valentine’s, my sweet girl,” she murmurs, pulling you close to her, littering kisses atop of your hair. “Lord, I love you more’n anything.”
“Love you so much, Lucy Gray,” you whisper, toying with her fingers. You keep coming back to her ring finger, and solemnly swearing to yourself that someday you’ll find her a token of your love to wear upon it. Today isn’t the day — you’re both so young, still young enough to be Reaped — but you know that when the time comes you’ll give yourself over to Lucy Gray forever.
“When you’re thinkin’ that hard I can hear the bits in your brain whirring,” Lucy Gray tells you, eyes sparkling with mirth. “It’s real cute. What’s on your mind, darlin’?”
“Wanna marry you someday,” you mumble. Lucy Gray is rarely caught off guard, but this gets her, and her cheeks flood with colour. Her smile, though, only widens.
“I— it’ll happen someday, baby. I’ll make sure of it.”
You help one another get dressed, all giggles and teeth and hearts on sleeves. Outside it’s warm, the warmest it’s been all season, and you can feel winter breaking as life returns to the dormant earth beneath your feet.
“What’s today lookin’ like, Lu?” you ask.
“Thought we could go to the lake.” She grins easily at you, and it’s contagious.
The two of you amble through the woods, hand in hand, content to take your time together. The whole sweet sunny day stretches out in front of you, warm and dry (Lucy Gray takes one look at the clouds in the sky and determines today will be free of rain throughout, and in seventeen years she’s not been wrong yet) and full of love. Your eyes are fixed on her, the way hers are constantly darting around, not necessarily on guard but more eager to take in all the world has to offer. Every little detail is of significance to Lucy Gray. How her brain works is a beautiful mystery to you, but you’ve learnt she has a way of reading her surroundings, and she can see signs of the future in the earth as easily as she can breathe. Barb Azure says she’s a walking oracle. A few times she’s tried to explain to you how she notices what she does. There’s always a kind of sense to it, but you’ll never get it in the way she does. You’re more than content to sit back and watch her in her element, though. You just feel grateful to be by her side, your one and only, your angel among men.
“Look.” She stops you to point at two four-leaved clovers at the roots of a tree which have grown together so much that their stems are intertwined. “That means you’n me are forever.”
Your stomach swarms with butterflies. “Sure hope so.”
“I know so,” she tells you, brown eyes bright as she presses a kiss to your lips.
The little earthy plateau above the jetty of the lake, the one protruding from the flowers and trees, has been absolutely transformed since you saw it last. The thick, sturdy picnic blanket often used by the Covey on adventures has been laid out beautifully, and is held in secure place by rocks piled on each corner. Ever so carefully arranged atop the blanket are comfy pillows and a picnic for two, with the food set out all pretty in little jars and bowls and handkerchiefs. From where you’re stood you can see a few different kinds of bread and cake, freshly pressed jams, and fruits and berries. Even with how much of this she could’ve foraged, it shakes you how much tesserae has gone into this. Propped against the bough of a tree is her beloved guitar, with her little notebook of songs beside it.
You let out a little noise of surprise when you first lay eyes upon the scene. Lucy Gray fights a losing battle in trying not to smile at how fucking cute you are.
“What’d’you think?” she asks instead, not quite looking at you, toeing at the ground. “Barb Azure helped me with all the bakin’, n’then me’n the boys dolled it up all nice. They were real helpful.” (You know exactly what she means, too. Clerk Carmine is shaping up to be a real painter, he’s got an artist’s eye, and you know this kind of thing would be right up his street.)
You’re in awe for a moment, not even sure what to say. Lucy Gray’s dark eyes blink at you hopefully. She’d never say it, she’d rather die than say it, but you know that the ever so subtle tension to her shoulders, the slight tilt to her chin phrase a silent question.
“It… it’s so gorgeous, Lu, I can’t even, thank you,” you manage. Her posture softens and she steps forward to cup your face in her hands.
“I wanna treat you how you deserve, baby,” she tells you sincerely, and then pecks at your lips before her arms drop down to her sides again. “Now c’mon, or the damn flies’ll eat before we do.”
The two of you stay at the lake together for hours. Perhaps you wouldn’t have picked a February picnic of your own volition, but just as Lucy Gray predicted the weather’s so gorgeous you’re sure she must’ve charmed the skies the way she does with everyone else. You voice this thought to her, and she only laughs, her smile reaching her eyes as she feeds you another berry.
Eventually, as the sun begins to set above the two of you, painting the sky in pinks and golds, the air grows cooler, and you find yourself shivering in Lucy Gray’s arms. Ever-vigilant, she notices.
“Awww, is my baby cold?” she coos. “Don’t worry, I’ll warm you up.” Her hands ghost your sides teasingly, and you blush.
“Shut your mouth, Lucy Gray.”
She gasps, feigning offence. “Why, I thought you liked it wide open.”
You let out a noise of surprise, and hide your face in her hair. Lucy Gray laughs heartily, and cradles you to her, telling you over and over how sweet you are. The moon awakes her silver tongue, though, and as the skies get darker she trips you up again and again with filthy words which, eventually, turn to filthy actions.
Once the act is over, once Lucy Gray’s mouth has been put to good use, the two of you swaddle yourselves in all of the blankets and lie in a little cocoon, gazing up at the stars.
“Thank you, for today,” you whisper, so close to her that you don’t have to move at all to kiss her cheek. “Means a lot.”
She shrugs, nonchalant. “You honour our culture, you join in and all. This day was important to you, I wanted t’honour yours.”
You laugh softly. “You’re sweet. …I don’t think I would call the Districts my culture.”
“No?” Lucy Gray asks, genuinely curious. You shake your head. “What is, then?”
“Don’t know. I got nothing. Just what you teach me.”
She lets out a hum of amusement. “Yeah? You wanna be Covey?” She says it with humour, but the hope in your eyes has her straightening a little. “Y— you do?”
“If you’ll have me,” you say shyly.
Her heart swells against the bars of her chest. “If we’ll ha—? Darlin’, I want this more’n anything,” she tells you lowly. “We love you. I love you. You’re one of us.”
“I’m yours,” you whisper.
“You’re mine. I’m yours. My girl,” she murmurs, fingers beginning to comb through your hair. You press your cheek against hers, so overwhelmed with love for her, and continue to gaze up at the stars with your love.

Mick Schumacher with a southern GF
Summary: I can't be the only one who thinks that Mick would be absolutely perfect with a southern girlfriend so I had to share.
*Disclaimer: I use Y/N and reader, but when I write this in my mind I see her as a tall plus size gal (mainly because that's my personal body type), but also because I really see Mick doing amazing with a woman like that. If there is anything I write that doesn't apply to you feel free to leave it out and like always feedback is always appreciated and loved!
Photos from Pinterest
Tumblr media
you're an up and coming social media influencer and college student who just so happens to also be an F1 fan
You love to document things in your life like travel, food, college, and growing up in the south
You post some F1 content thinking nothing off it when you notice that Mick Schumacher has started to follow you and comment on some of your posts
Let's not lie to ourselves here you totally fangirled and that's totally understandable because it's Mick freaking Schumacher
You guys start DMing back and forth and really hit it off
That was over a year ago and let's just say the rest is history
You love visiting Mick and his family and you always come prepared with a batch of your Mamaw's peanut butter cookies
He loves when you wear your cowboy boots out because he can't quite explain it, but somehow it makes your legs and butt look so good
You're a natural with animals and kids which in Mick's head has him thinking "she's a freaking Disney princess"
Mick loves when you call him so excited about getting a new animal or something in the garden blooming
His mother adores you!! She thinks you are the sweetest woman she's ever met and she is so happy for her son
Seeing Mick in that cowboy hat just really gets you going and more often times than not when he wears you end up saving a horse and riding that cowboy
Bonfires are a regular get together for your family and Mick loves how down to Earth and sweet y'all are
He thinks it's so cute when you say things and your drawl comes out more than normal, especially when you're tired
You somehow give the letter M almost three syllables and he loves it
Your parents taught you to mainly cook from the garden and hunting and Mick is obsessed with your food, he's convinced that love as an ingredient is real
Loves to slip his hand in your back pocket when you're wearing jeans
You don't really post each other on social media much because y'all are more of a private, but not secret couple and it works so well for the both of you
You introduce Mick to some southern staples such as Moonpies, authentic biscuits and gravy, and of course some moonshine (it's not your favorite, but you'll drink it)
Some people like to assume that just cause you talk slow means your stupid and Mick can be the first one to say that is totally not the case
You have more knowledge in the back of your head than the library of Congress and he is so proud of how smart and hardworking you are
Mick loves when you come in dirty from the garden or helping out around the farm
"maybe we should shower together, save some water you know"
Mick's family loves how you're always making him smile and sometimes they swear they've never seen him this happy
Sometimes he'll find you just laying outside on the grass reading a book and he can't help but think to himself "I'm going to marry her someday"
His mom is constantly asking him when he's going to pop the question
One time you told him it smelled like it was going to rain and he looked at you like you grew another head until you explain it to him
You enjoy taking him to the local drive-in near your house and out to a small restaurant
He loves your papaw's raspberry jam and will fight anyone over the jars of it your papaw gives him
With you life for Mick slows down just a little and he sees his future in your eyes
If you're walking ahead of him and he wants you closer he'll pull you gently by your belt loops
You love taking him up to the top of the land and just watching the stars together
He loves you and he couldn't see himself with anyone else

The ghouls love to tease their kills, make them think they might be spared, let them escape a few times on purpose, and make them beg for their lives. All of this is great fun for them, especially when they see relief wash over a sibling's face just before they kill them. Although it's great fun to trick a sibling in to thinking they've won their safety, would they refrain from doing it to preserve the unadulterated flavor of terror? I'm sure they all have their preferences, but for those of them that love to play with their food I wonder if they ever waste a kill because they couldn't stand the flavor.
Fic idea I got while writing this: One or more ghouls are hunting a sibling. One ghoul, maybe Rain since I think the siblings underestimate how dangerous he is, hangs back and once the others have caught the sibling Rain comes and "talks them out of" killing them. Then Rain goes to comfort the sibling before killing them himself.
Not directly related to anything else in here but: I LOVE WEAPONIZED QUINTESSENCE
God I could talk about murder ghouls ALL DAY (and I have and I will). I started writing headcanons and accidentally wrote something based on the first part of this ask and not the fic idea but OH WELL. Fruits never stop sending me murder ghoul content it makes me so HAPPY. Also someday I'm going to write weaponized quintessence because HOLY FUCK it's so good (but not yet, sorryyy).
700ish words of murder ghouls. gore. violence. ghouls being predators. Ghouls eating people (well more talking about it but you get the idea) Dew being a picky eater. Cumulus being Cumulus. Murder ghouls are NOT good people but we love them anyway.
They all have their preferences. Swiss likes them horny. Boneless. On the verge of an orgasm. Loves the taste of oxytocin and dopamine on his tongue. Loves the heat of them, the pound of their pulse beneath his fangs. Rain likes them unaware. Never seeing it coming. Relaxed. Basic, unseasoned humanity. Aether and Aeon like them drunk on quintessence. The taste of their own magic in their blood. The tang of it sharp on their tongues. But Dew? he likes fear. Unadulterated. Terror. It makes them so sweet. All of those chemicals. All that cold dread pooling thick in their stomachs. Just the smell of it can set him off. So this, is less than ideal. He should have known better pairing up with Cumulus to hunt. She likes it slow--decadent. Likes to savor the way their face opens back up when they realize the monster behind them has been their beloved friend this whole time. She lives for the relief in their eyes. The way fight or flight dies and adrenaline flees and they are comfortable and home and--Dew can't stand the taste of it. The smell of it makes him grimace. He watches from the edges of the trees. In sight, out of mind now that the sibling thinks the real danger has passed. He watches Cumulus stroke a soft finger over the sibling's cheek. Their jaw. Pressing a thumb over full lips. Cumulus coos at them, like she would a kit and Dew feels his stomach churn. He's happy to help--really--but he's hungry and he's picky. He hates to admit it. Rain would dive in--no questions. Mountain too--though he prefers his prey dazed and drugged. But Dew? He can't stomach it.
He should have said no–but just like the sibling he is powerless to Cumulus when she wants something. Big eyes and a pouty lip that has him shoving his hands in his pockets and following her even though he knows he’ll end the night hungry.
Better than dead, he supposes.
“Droplet,” Cumulus says, voice a soft purr. She jerks her head toward the sibling and Dew sighs. He crosses to them, leaves crunching under his boots. Hands balled into fists in the pockets of his jacket. Ravenous and revolted all at once.
The sibling jolts when they notice him again. Eyes darting between Cumulus–trusted confidant and friend–and Dew who has never been kind to a human in his entire infernal life. There is knowledge in those eyes–primal. That this sibling knows he was chasing them. Hot on their tail. Smelling like smoke and sulfur. That if Cumulus hadn’t stepped in, he would have killed them.
She gets to play savior–it’s her favorite role. But Dew smells that little spike of fear, can taste it on the air. Unease. His stomach clenches, growls.
“Do you want to do the honors?” Cumulus turns to him fully now. One hand still cupping the siblings cheek. But her eyes on him. Looking up at him, lips parted. Dew is definitely not thinking about how they’ll taste when they’re covered in blood.
The sibling whimpers, pulls back but Cumulus digs her fingers in. The sharp scent of blood hits Dew like a freight train. Tolerable now. And he feels himself nod. Hunger outweighing pickiness momentarily.
The sibling pulls away from Cumulus fully. Wrenching away even as Cumulus digs in, claws carving for deep scratches in their cheek as they bolt. Darting through the trees. Cumulus licks their blood from her fingers.
Dew waits, allows this human a head start, just enough time for him to look at Cumulus and tilt his head, confusion.
“That’s your kill,” he says, low. She offers him two of her fingers, dragging blood over his lips. His tongue darts out to lap it up. Sweet. Laced with panic and confusion. Soon he’ll have a feast of it. “We’ll share. I’m not the picky one.”
“Lus–”
“Better hurry, before dinner gets away.” She gives him a shove in the direction the sibling went. Dew can still hear them, crashing through the woods, panting panicked breaths. Each of them bordering on a scream. “Bring them back first,” she adds. “I want to watch.”
