I always feel like a broken record for saying this, but there is literally no form of transphobia that is acceptable. All transphobia is harmful - all forms of bigotry toward a group for features they cannot change (in this case, being trans) is harmful. It doesn't matter what gender a trans person is, it doesn't matter if they are a Good Person, it doesn't matter if you like them or want to see them happy. None of that matters because transphobia is transphobia is transphobia.

The "transsexual" reemergence is tough because it can't be completely separated from transmedicalist implications. However, the way I've heard it explained isn't just about the oldness of the term but a statement against the idea that "gender can be changed but sex can't." So, rather than "sex" as the rock solid alternative to gender, sex can be seen as similarly constructed. When put this way it sounds kind of exciting, but there's a need to be careful.

I definitely agree! It is really difficult to remove it fully from "transsexual is when you change your sex with hormones and surgeries" (and the subsequent idea that "transsexuals" are more "real" than mere "transgenders", which relies on a medicalized definition of what being trans is), but people are trying and I guess I can at least respect it. I do think the oldness of the term is a big part of it though LMAO, a lotttttt of gay and trans "culture" on this website has recently taken a hard shift towards, like, Respecting Our Great Traditions And Our Infallible Elders and a big part of that is idk. "fag isn't a slur it's my IDENTITY you wouldn't survive THE NINETIES where literally everyone said FAG and DYKE, you snowflake"posting, as well as the specific sect of "transsexual"posting where "transsexual" is treated as "less sanitized", "more radical", or "less marketable" than "transgender" (I have taken this idea apart multiple times before, I think it's stupid and ignorant). There's absolutely a sense of like, gay neoclassicism to it that I don't think can purely be explained by a desire to retaliate against the "you can change your gender but not your sex" thing (although I do think that's part of it for some people). Idk gay people are not immune to worshiping the cult of tradition and I've seen it happening a lot recently. Yknow, why being a 19-year-old genderqueer transSEXual is cool ("old terms", edgy and cool, makes up for the crime of being born in The Snowflake Generation or whatever), but being a 40-year-old sparklegender demiboy is decidedly not cool ("new terms", people like to pretend that "micro"labels are somehow like Less Radical And More Sanitized And More Marketable or something even tho they aren't, even tho "the woke left wants to make Our Children think they can LITERALLY identify as CATS" is a king conservative talking point right now, but whatever). It's not quite "I'm a True Transsexual because I got surgery, not like Transgenders who aren't actually as #valid as I am", but I do think for a lot of people "transsexual" is meant to kind of set them apart from mere "transgenders" (even if it's subconsciously, even if they won't admit it)
