Signups are now open for the 2023 SoS Exchanges! This year, we are running the Witcher Summer of Sci-Fi Exchange and the Grishaverse Summer of Sci-Fi Exchange.

Summer of Sci-Fi is an annual fic exchange centering various sci-fi AUs, including but not limited to: cyberpunk, space opera, genre-blending with sci-fi (space fantasy, space western), etc. Do you want to see Geralt as a starship pilot? Alina or the Grisha in a cyberpunk setting? Ciri as a space cleric of some ancient deity, or the Crows as steampunk pirates, or some other funky AU I haven't even thought of? Summer of Sci-Fi highlights and celebrates science fiction AUs for any and all of the different canons for its fandoms.

Which pairings are allowed?

All of them! Literally any pairings from TG86 or TG:M. This event also welcomes poly relationships, character x OC, character x Reader and RPF works.

What about platonic pairings?

Go wild. If you want to create for a romantic or a platonic pairing - doesn't matter.

How/when do I get my card after sign-up?

Expect one in the 24 hours after your sign-up. If you haven't received one within 48 hours, check your spam folder and/or contact via askbox or e-mail.

I don't like the squares on my bingo card - can I get another one?

While the sign-up process gives you the opportunity to tell us which AU themes you don't want your bingo card to hold, up to six squares can be exchanged after you receive your bingo card. Just write send in an email with which squares you do not feel like creating with/for and they'll be exchanged out with an edited board for you. The goal is for all us to have fun!

How does card submission work?

To submit your card to receive your well-earned badge(s), post your card with a link to your creation(s) and either mark the squares you filled in the graphic or include a list of them in your post.

Important: mention @topgunalternateuniverse in your post so it can be promoted!

If you don't feel like posting your card/words to Tumblr feel free to send an email!

How do I get another card? Do I have to have a blackout on my original?

You're eligible to get a second card after you've completed at least 1 bingo on your original card (or more!) Just provide proof of the first bingo and send an email for a new one!

Are the 'Tentcales' and 'Compatibility Porgram' prompts spelled incorrectly on purpose?

No. But I'm also not changing them. Sorry.

Are collaborative works allowed?

Yes! However, if both (or more) participants have a bingo card, only the prompts that appear on the appropriate card will count. So if you write a fantasy piece but only one person has fantasy on their card, only they will have that square counted, and so on!

Is there an event tag to use?

Please use topgunaubingo if you should choose!

I think we should have lists of AU ideas of CoD. Like just for fun, this is a joke.

AUs of if the MC had actually physically fought one or more of the S rank princes in the prologue.

Menace MC AU because I’ve seen all lot of people talk about this as an AU.

MC gets turned into a child AU because a couple of the event stories have had this.

One or more or all of the consorts get turned into a child AU since I saw people talking about this

AUs where one of the CoD characters who doesn’t have a consort path yet has a consort path. Thoma, Violet, Sherry, Hawke, Dewi, Teto, Zev, Kieran, Hardie, Lunas.

In the prologue the MC’s eye are changed to red to make it look like she is from their world and from Avari. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to green instead to make her look like she was from Akedia. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to purple instead to make her look like she was from Luxure. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to blue instead to make her look like she was from Quelsum. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to yellow to make her look like she was from Invidia. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to grey to make her look like she was from Voleri. AU where MC’s eyes were changed to brown to make her look like she was from Ira.

AU of if the MC was a vegetarian. AU of if the MC was vegan. AU of if the MC had a food allergy. AU of if the MC was lactose intolerant. AU of if the MC was allergic to nuts. AU of if the MC was allergic to gluten.

AUs of if each player got to choose what kind of cat the MC’s cat familiar is. AU of if the MC’s familiar was a dog instead of a cat.

HELLO HICCANNA NATION

It's that time again!!! I am pleased to report that I'm going to be hosting Hiccanna Month again this year since I got so many lovely submissions in 2022 :3 I have, however, decided to bump it to July this year since I've been busy with a new job and other adult stuff and have only just now come up with a prompts list ^^;

This year is all about Putting Those Guys In Situations: Alternate universes! The way it's gonna work is I have an overarching AU theme for each week, and then more specific AU prompts for each day. And then of course a music week, because you gotta have a music week.

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?

I'll be honest, I don't tend to think about things in terms of tropes very much (maybe I'm just too old and they weren't being discussed/codified as prevalently when I was first learning how to think about stories; more likely it's just another case of me being bad at Paying Attention To Popular Culture lol). So my brain isn't very good at coming up with types of tropes off-the-cuff.

So I'm going to go slightly off-topic, because I'm struggling to come up with a more topical answer, sorry. (If anyone has a specific trope they want thoughts about, I can answer that! I just need more of a Multiple Choice Test for tropes it turns out haha.)

Instead let's talk about my least favorite type of AU: the modern/non-magical AU. "Ewww, why would you take out all the stuff that makes the setting fun?" I say, already wrinkling my nose and recoiling. (Note that replacing said trappings with alternative ones—e.g. taking a high fantasy society and shunting it into space, or turning an intergalactic faster-than-light galaxy into a steampunk one, or replacing shape-shifting with pirates, etc etc, does not count as "taking out the fun stuff" to me, because you're applying different trappings rather than just a boring default "normal life" setting.) Part of this I'm sure is that I dislike the concept, so I don't read it, so I don't ever see the good ones. I am self-aware enough to realize that at least lol.

However, I recently did poke my nose in on a Modern AU for Lord of the Rings...and LOVED IT. The world building is captivating, because they keep the story in Middle-earth. There are still elves and dwarves and hobbits. Minas Tirith is still there with its seven tiers, it's just also got public transport and smartphones. And seeing how the world of Middle-earth fits into a modern society is every bit as fascinating as it would be to apply it to pirates or space-travelers, and I am finding it absolutely delightful to explore and discover the world building as it trickles-out through stories. (Labels to designate elf-safe meat, what!?) So this AU I love, and highly recommend.

That said I'm still avoiding the tag on AO3 for the most part, because now my problem is that instead of just being bored by the idea as a concept over all, now unless the story has world building to compare to that of @roselightfairy and @deheerkonijn's exquisite Modverse, I'm disappointed by that XD

So I suppose this is one that's grown on me in some ways, and yet remains a no-thanks overall. But that still counts as progress, right? At least now I can recognize the theoretical merit of the concept, even if I still tend not to like it in execution!

R!POYW x Rewrite the stars - Part 1

*slams head on desk* god fuckin, dammit I've got to stop doing this. Anyway, enjoy this au where Lia is in rewrite. (also, (y/n) will be a full-on oc in this, her name is Rose, and will have stated features unlike her xreader counterpart)

Ben cautiously approached the futuristic lifeboat that had crash-landed not too far away from his castle, his eyes resting on a dark-skinned girl who seemed to be unconscious, a pink floating blob zipping around her trying to wake her up. He took a picture of the crash to show to Rose later, to see if she recognized it, then put his phone away.

Ben noticed the mast lying atop the girl and he rushed to push it off, the goo making a noise of thanks and zooming down to the girl’s face, her eyes shut as it tried to wake her again. Ben could see her much more clearly now; dark-skin, like he had noticed before, long black hair braided into a half bun ponytail, old-fashioned-looking clothes (Evie and Rose would akin it to steampunk), and a bright pink jacket.

“who are-“ the pink blob interrupted Ben’s wondering and squeaked out a name. “Dahlia! Dahlia!” it squeaked twice, flying over the girls, Dahlia her name was, head. “Dahlia!”

“Either that’s your name or hers?” Ben muttered, nodding as the goo pointed down at the girl, repeating the name again; Dahlia. “Her’s then…alright, better get you somewhere safe Dahlia” Ben hummed, carefully picking up the girl and shifting her to a bridal carry. Her eyes stayed closed, and Ben hopped she didn’t have a concussion or anything like that. “uh, follow me?”

The pink goo went to follow but stopped at the sudden loud sound of a canon, but it didn’t sound like the ones Ben was used to on a ship, it sounded almost like when a jet broke the sound barrier, a sonic boom. He looked up, eyes widening at what he saw.

It was a massive ship, maybe even bigger than the yacht cotillion had been hosted at only a month or two ago. It was high-tech too, looked like something out of that movie series Rose had shown him a while back; Star wars. But-again, much more..actually ship-like. The pink goo morphed into a skull and crossbones, and Ben could easily guess what he was saying.

“Pirates” Ben muttered, taking a step back into cover as distant yelling echoed in the air. He could sense these pirates were looking for Dahlia, and Ben was getting her to safety as soon as possible. “come on” he turned on his heel and ran back towards his castle, the goo at his back.

Mal watched with careful eyes next to Rose, the two studying the girl who had apparently fallen from space; according to Ben’s recounting of his recent encounter. “Think she’s really from space?” Mal asked gently, not wanting to wake Dahlia, Rose hummed, crossing her arms.

“Dunno, but Ben took a picture of her lifeboat, haven’t seen it yet” Rose muttered, watching as Ben tucked Dahlia into the guest bedroom bed and shut off the lights, giving Mal a look; who understood and cast a monitoring spell to keep check on Dahlia. The three stepped out of the room and Ben closed the door behind him. “So, Ben?” Rose held out her hand, and Ben gave her a confused look. “the picture?”

“oh!” Ben gasped, taking out his phone and pulling up the picture of the futuristic lifeboat “yeah, here” Rose and Mal huddled around Ben to look and Rose nodded, recognizing the style of the lifeboat. “you recognize it? Is it from your world?”

“Technically yes, and also no. It’s from here, but not earth” Rose chuckled, taking out her phone and typing up something “it’s from Disney, what you base from. Just-that period of those 'weird’ movies that don’t get the credit they deserve. She’s is from a movie called treasure planet.” Rose showed Mal and Ben a picture of the movie poster “Basically treasure island, but mix in steampunk and space.”

“cool” Mal gasped, her eyes sparkling with interest. “so she really is from space?” “most definitely” Rose confirmed, putting her phone away and looking at the door, where Dahlia rested behind “we can ask exactly where from when she wakes up, but for now; let her sleep”

“oh, Ben” Mal remembered something from her examination on Dahlia earlier and she patted his arm gently, catching his attention “she’s fine physically, she’ll wake up probably around morning, maybe a little before…probably when it’s still dark I dunno” Ben sighed in relief, and nodded.

“That’s good, I was worried,” Ben said, glancing back at the door, rubbing the back of his neck. “Well” he looked at his watch “it’s late, we all should get some sleep, Rose could you stay the night? Just to help greet her when she awakes? Mal, call me when she wakes up?” the two nodded and Mal gave him a quick goodbye hug and patted Rose’s shoulder, skipping out of the hall towards her bike to head back to the school dorms.

“you can stay in your usual guest room,” Ben told Rose, who nodded and texted Harry an update of the situation. “I expect breakfast” she joked, waggling her fingers in a ‘see ya’ gesture and turning on her heel, taking a right instead of the left Mal had and heading towards her designated guest room.

Lia woke up with a start, gasping slightly as she looked at her blurry surroundings that were slowly starting to fade into view. “Where-“ Lia started, her voice quiet as she sat up. This was not what she was expecting; no drifting rocks, no destroyed ship, not even a cell on a pirate ship. Instead, she was in a beautifully decorated room, the tops of the windows decorated with stained glass, white and gold curtains hanging off the rods that were placed just in front of the top of the window. The room she was in was spacious, and while it was dark due to the night sky outside, she could see every ornate detail.

Lia hummed, looking around once more, laughing as she spotted her dear ‘pet’ morph, who was sitting on the edge of the nightstand next to the bed she was laying on, munching on a cracker from a plate next to him that was decorated with crackers and other odd-looking snacks; clearly meant for the two of them once she woke up. “Morph?” Lia asked in a raspy voice, hurtling through space hadn’t done it any good “Where are we? How’d we get here?” Morph quickly set down his snack and shot up to Lia’s face, wagging his ‘butt’ like a dog’s tail, moving so quickly that a pink blur followed him.

Then morph split himself and took on different forms, telling the story of how they had gotten here, the first was obvious, the lifeboat which crashed onto the nightstand, the second was a tiny Lia but unconscious. The third turned into something that made Lia immediately curious; it was a boy, around her age, with brown hair, and honey eyes. He looked so…kind. He walked over to the tiny Lia and picked her up, walking away from the crash and towards the castle she was in now.

“sooo a boy found me at the crash, and brought me here,” Lia said, leaning on her palm as she smiled at Morph's theatrics. Morph reformed and nodded, smiling. “Alright then” Lia muttered, slipping out of the comfy bed and stretching a bit, her muscles slightly sore from the crash even after she was already healed thanks to her powers. She glanced down at herself, she was still wearing the outfit she had been in before, but minus her jacket, boots, and weapons; which she found all on a chair just next to the nightstand, the boots resting on the floor in front of the legs.

Lia stood slowly, glancing around the room once more. It seemed…normal; safe even but Lia was not one to trust immediately, this entire thing could be a trap. Lia quietly grabbed her boots and jacket, shrugging the jacket on and sitting down on the bed to tie up her boots; freezing as a knock sounded at the door.

She glanced up with wide eyes, watching as Morph nervously went over to the door, peeked through the keyhole, then bolted for the doorknob, trying to open it with excited noises. The door was knocked on again and Lia warily called out for whoever it was to enter. The boy that Morph mimicked stepped through, his honey eyes soft and his smile beaming.

“Miss Dahlia?” the boy asked, tilting his head slightly as he realized Lia was in the middle of getting her boots on; watching him with weary eyes “Just Lia,” Lia said carefully, finishing off her boots and standing, eyeing her sword that rested on the chair. “who told you my name?”

“the uh…glob thing” the boy answered, watching Morph amused as he circled Ben with happy noises. “he said your name about a dozen times”

Lia hummed, crossing her arms “that’s Morph, and you are?” the boy straightened up, and Lia realized the golden crown on his head, shining in the moonlight.

“Ben, or King Benjamin. But-I prefer Ben.” Ben took a small bow, still smiling at her, Lia tilted her head, pursing her lips slightly; still untrusting of Ben and the world she crash-landed on.

“so King Ben” Lia started, pushing down a smirk as she realized Ben was in his pj’s, aka a blue t-shirt and some soft pants. “where are we? Your kingdom I presume?” Ben nodded, pointing to the symbol of his kingdom that rested in the middle of the carpet of the room they were in.

“yes, Auradon. Sorry I didn’t say that earlier” Ben laughed, rubbing the back of his head “But! Welcome to Auradon Lia.” Lia and Ben stared at each other for a good minute, and Ben nearly got lost in her eyes; striking blue with streaks of gold that seemed to shimmer under the faint moonlight. Lia was sizing him up as Ben just stood there; knowing to just let her get used to him at her own pace after interacting with scrappy isle kids for the last eight months.

“Ben” Lia said slowly, as if tasting his name on her tongue, Ben smiled; for some reason her saying his name made him…happy? It was the same feeling he got when Mal said his name when she was laughing too hard to talk properly.

“yes?” Ben said, noting Lia’s accent was different than he had ever heard. He liked it though, he compared it to how Rose liked Harry’s accent; it was interesting and lovely to listen to.

“you brought me here?” Lia asked, using her finger to gesture to the room, but Ben knew she meant the castle in general. Ben nodded, fiddling with his fingers behind his back.

“yes, your ship crashed just outside; in the forest near the castle. I saw it happen actually, and when I went to go investigate, I saw you; pinned underneath the mast, so I brought you back here to get you medical attention, in case you were hurt.” Lia nodded at Ben’s explanation, it seemed to be a genuine act of kindness.

“and how long ago was that?” Lia asked, glancing outside to the darkness of night, freezing as Ben answered. “About five hours now, I think” Lia sighed, walking towards her weapons and starting to strap them to her hips “leaving already?” Ben asked, disappointed that Lia was leaving so soon, he hadn’t really even gotten to talk to her yet.

“Five hours is much too long” Lia muttered, patting the pommel of her sword and fixing her jacket sleeves, glancing back at Ben with her bright eyes. “I need to find my parents.”

Ben nodded, but pursed his lips “Are they on this planet?” Ben asked, wanting to make sure Lia would return to her family safely and quickly, even if he was enjoying her company. (even though it hadn't been too long since he started talking to her; she just had a vibe he liked)

“Depends,” Lia said with a shrug, turning back to Ben “what planet is this?”

“Uh-Earth? I don’t know what you would call it, we haven't gone farther than the moon and we’re still discovering new planets every year” Ben guessed, shrugging as Lia sighed, tilting her head to the ceiling slightly.

“Earth. Every human civilization calls their planet Earth. There are at least twenty Earth’s across the galaxies!” Lia turned to Morph, the pink goo looking happy to be of use “You were awake when we landed right? you got a map of this galaxy?” Morph nodded, expanding and turning into a chalkboard star map that Ben could not read, but Lia could; muttering to herself as she looked at the map.

“So we’re still In the Achten sector” Lia muttered, tapping her fingers across the blackboard and tapping various planets “so Atylon can't be far from here…aaand this planet is-Kechrar? No, that pink one over there is Kechrar, that must mean…Ixosl. We’re on Ixsol, but-I thought it was uninhabited?” Lia ranted to herself, Morph forming back into his pink goo form tilting his head at Lia as she tapped her chin.

Ben shrugged from his place “well, it’s inhabited, by nearly seven-point nine billion people…maybe when you last checked it was after the meteor that wiped all life forms across the board? That did happen once, but like-sixty-five million years ago.” Lia hummed, tilting her head back and forth slightly.

“Possibly” Lia mumbled, starting for the door again, to which Ben tilted his head and stood his ground as Lia stepped up to him. “I have to go find my parents” Ben nodded, slightly, shuffling on his feet.

“well, your craft was damaged in the fall. It didn’t look too bad to where you couldn’t repair it but- I don’t think you’d be even able to find it tonight, the smoke has completely disappeared and I don’t remember where it was…i-I can help you look for it tomorrow morning? I remember the general area but-“ Ben shrugged, hoping Lia would trust him enough to let him help; he really wanted to.

Lia just stared at him, her bright eyes shining in the dark as her determination and distrust made themselves clear “Miss Lia” Ben said, his voice stern, one he would use with Rose or Harry when they decided they wanted to do something stupid or brash. “I know you want to help your parents. Believe me, I can understand. But it’s not possible right now. If you stay until sunrise, and after breakfast, I promise I will help you look for it. And my friend Rose will help as well; since three sets of eyes are better than two. And then I’ll help you fix it-or well, I know someone who can help you fix it.”

Lia continued to stare at Ben, her eyes narrowed, as Ben just stood there; hoping she would take his word and continue to sleep for a bit longer to get proper rest and then eat in the morning with him. Having a clear mind would also help Lia deal with the universe-jumping Rose; who mind-boggled whoever she came in contact with that she knew the story of. He glanced at her sword and dagger once then back at her, continuing to smile.

To his surprise, Lia sighed, dropping her arms and walking back towards the bed, tossing her weapons and jacket on the chair it had been on a moment before “Fine. But the moment the sun rises, I expect to be woken up. And after breakfast, I wait no longer. I’m going to the crash with or without you and this-Rose�� Lia muttered, undoing her boots and setting them on the bedside.

“I expect nothing else” Ben chuckled, mentally fist pumping as he saw a faint smile pull at Lia’s lips “Dawn is in a few hours, so, get some sleep; please?” Lia just hummed, looking out the window. She undid her ponytail, thick waves of dark hair cascading down her back as she scratched at the sore part of her head where her hair had been tied back. “yeah you too; be warned” Lia looked back at Ben, her eyes flashing with promise “if I detect any trickery with-this” she gestured to the room, but meant the situation “I’m more than ready to fight my way out”

Ben just smiled, Lia reminded him of Rose, headstrong and ready to throw down at any moment. “No tricks. I promise, I just want to help.” Ben stepped back towards the door, opening it behind his back “goodnight Lia, sleep well” Ben turned, stepping out of the room, leaning back into her view as she called his name “yes?”

She stared at him for a moment, then smiled. He could still see the mistrust in her eyes but she wasn’t a mean person. “Thank you,” she said, sincere in her words “for saving my life” Ben nodded. “it's not in my nature to leave the hurt behind,” Ben said simply, bowing to Lia and closing the door as he left, leaving Lia and Morph in the darkness of the guest room of Beast castle.

Lia glanced around once more than laid down on the soft bed, staring up at the ceiling “Well morph” Lia said, holding up her hands for the shapeshifter alien to cuddle in “something tells me this is going to be in for an adventure, more than we thought at least” she chuckled, turning and getting back under the covers, pulling them to rest under her chin and closing her eyes. But the new adventure would have to wait till morning.

A wonderful fic written by one of my fav mutuals and this AU to it will follow the og plot closely, or well, as closely as it can XD since Mal in this isn’t a bitch, there’s a couple of characters that will make appearances faster than they would in the og, and along with it also following the plot of Interlude - Rewrite, since that’s when the two stories would collide. This is a Ben/Oc story, and yes my Mal/Ben is a bit (way) healthier than canon/rts ben/Mal, I can and will have Ben and Lia fall in love and get together. Im still kinda deciding on what to do with Ben and Mal? First thought was a poly ship between all three? but now im more thinking; Ben is dating/going to date both Mal and Lia, he does have two hands after all-but Lia and Mal aren’t dating. They just support and love Ben with all their souls and decide that they are both good for Ben and like in the og story, Lia is Ben’s true love, just as Mal is/was. So-Ben has two soulmates and the girls are just like “cool more people to love you”-yeah Mal’s just-fukin chill in this XD

Eddtober: hey! Pick a song for what you’d like to make! Any song! have fun!

Me: Haha entirety of Ulysses Dies At Dawn and The Bifrost Incident go brrrrrrrrrrr

So while I’m back at it again with my any% speedrun of Eddtober, I decided to combine prompts 15 and 16 into one while listening to the Mechanisms and make an Eddsworld AU of them, so meet the Eddchanisms!

For the most of you who DON’T know The Mechanisms, originally a backing band for the space-travelling vampire Dr Carmilla (who uh, “fell” out the airlock), they are/were a British steampunk cyborg time-travelling cabaret space-pirate band of (not-so) immortals who roam/ed across the universe in the starship Aurora, looking for violence, adventure, violence, and bittersweet and gruesome stories to tell. And they did!

The type of stories they tell/told are mainly sci-fi takes on fairy tales, folklore, and mythologies to the tunes of sea shanties, folk songs and hymns, and all of said stories are very gay and actually tie into lore of the Mechs themselves! (And their songs are actually, unironically bangers.)

My personal favourites are, as stated above, ‘Ulysses Dies At Dawn’ and ‘The Bifrost Incident’ (Greek myths in a gritty sci-fi noir and a train-based mystery with Norse Myths on board respectively). But ‘Once Upon A Time (In Space)’ (fairy tales corrupted into a sci-fi war epic) and ‘High Noon Over Camelot’ (sci-fi western interpretation of Arthurian legend) have been pretty fun too!

They released four main albums and two volumes of smaller stories before going out with a bang on the ‘Death to the Mechanisms’ concert, where… yeah, they died. That being said, their works are still around on bandcamp and youtube (with some filmed concerts even!), and their website is still up, with the fan channel TheVoidSings compiling whole lyric playlists of their music into one easy place. I recommend first listening to be one of their many, many versions of ‘Drunk Space Pirate’, their closing song from every concert.

Before I get carried away, let’s shift back to the Eddchanisms: a spinoff four-man band who, upon building their ship off old fragments of the Aurora, set off on their own adventures after being Mechanised by the original Mechanisms (mostly). They tell their own stories, but sometimes they come to a world still suffering the effects of the original Mechs, and so they may occasionally retell the Mechs’ own too. So let’s meet the Crew!

Edd: Design inspired by Baron Marius Von Raum and Jonny D’Ville, as well as regular Future Edd. The Captain of the ship, lead vocalist and storyteller. His drawing hand is the mechanised one. He claims his hand is impenetrable and unbreakable, but he will deny the story of it breaking when he once punched Jonny D’Ville in the face. It’s perfectly fine, it doesn’t need repairs.

Tom: Design inspired by regular future Tom and Jonny D’Ville (though I will admit, it’s up to change). vice-captain First Mate. Under tutelage from Ashes ‘O’ Reilly, is the bassist of the band and another vocalist. Confirmed to be a friend of the Void— wait a sec, is… is he even meched? Nobody’s sure, but a bassist is important.

Matt: Design inspired by Marius Von Raum and a vampiric vibe. Obviously. Ship’s ‘doctor’, his skull is mechanised. Often switches between lute and guitar as well as another vocalist. A sired vampire, possibly due to his naivety to sneaking into Dr Carmilla’s lab?

Tord: Design inspired by Drumbot Brian and The Toy Soldier (but it’s really up to the most change in the future). Ship’s mechanic, said to have his vocal chords are mechanised, but it’s suspected that he’s really mechanised elsewhere. Playing drums and banjo as frequently as Drumbot Brian did as well as being a vocalist. It’s ALSO suspected that he could have been an experiment of Dr Carmilla’s (or really, a blend of Marius and Raphaella la Cognizi’s), since there’s evidence of a strange combination of the Toy Soldier and Nastya’s abilities regarding his Mechanism.

Since my silly lil AU changes a few things around significantly, I figure that it’s best to put this in a fully cohesive place. There’s quite a lot to cover, and it doesn’t conform to the typical Rayman timeline.

For a quick reminder on what the heck this is: Ales Mansay and Mr. Dark are the same person, and the Magician is a separate person entirely.

Jano is conceived as the first nightmare. He attacks the Glade and causes very serious damage to it and its inhabitants.

Rayman is created, and defeats Jano. The Cave of Bad Dreams is created, and Jano is banished to it by the power of the Great Protoon, as used by Betilla and the Magician. However, the rest of the Glade is still left in shambles, and must slowly repair itself.

Ales Mansay, a Limbless baker and part-time mechanic, is left enraged by Polokus’ lack of action against his own nightmare, and lack of care for his struggling children. He starts donning the guise of Mr. Dark, and begins his tirade by causing petty crimes across the Glade, giving himself a name.

Mr. Dark starts recruiting various individuals across the Glade, who were deeply affected by Jano’s attack. He convinces them to his side, and they start working for him.

Mr. Dark steals the Great Protoon, causing the events of Rayman 1. He becomes a nightmare as a result of his actions.

The purpose of becoming Mr. Dark was to get Polokus’ attention, and try to get him to be more active in keeping the Glade and his children safe. He never set out to cause real damage or harm, but was willing to feign that to prove a point.

Defeated by Rayman, Mr. Dark is taken into custody by Betilla and the Magician. They attempt to decide his fate with Polokus and the Grand Minimus, contemplating sending him to the Cave of Bad Dreams. However, they consider that a death sentence, as Jano wouldn’t tolerate his presence. They instead use the power of the Great Protoon to strip him of his magic, remove his memories, and turn him into a Teensie (as a Limbless would not be able to survive without magic).

As a result of using the Protoon for these means, the Magician gets the full backlash of the spell, and is turned into a Teensie as well. Additionally, he is also given the nightmare magic Mr. Dark had, because it needed a place to go–and the Magician happened to be an ample vessel.

Mr. Dark, now going by Ales Mansay once again, finds himself near a Teensie village with his memories intact– but no magic to his name. He's taken in by a Murkin baker, who is the only one that gives him respect despite the fact that he has no magic. Ales begins working for him, as he’s able to make insanely high-quality cakes and pastries.

The events of Rayman 2 happen, and Ales and the Magician, who now goes by Houdini, are captured by the pirates. They must escape together, and so they begrudgingly work in unison, with Houdini under the impression that Ales doesn't have his memories.

Ales discovers he has a real knack for robotics, not just machinery, by reprogramming and rebuilding multiple pirates.

Once the pirates are defeated by Rayman, Ales tells Houdini he doesn't want to see him again, and forcefully closes the door between them, as he can’t get over his rage towards the other Teensie for taking his magic… And doesn’t want to get attached in any way.

Ales lays low for a time, working as a baker and slowly amassing resources for his steampunk empire, using a large sum of scrap from the pirates after they were defeated.

Rayman Legends happens, but with a MASSIVE difference: All the trouble was caused by Raymesis, attempting to give Rayman a bad name across the Glade. Ales was among the Teensies captured, fueling his disdain for Polokus, who did nothing but smoke a hookah the entire event.

After some time, Ales manages to cast his first spell. Betilla and Houdini are tipped off on this. Betilla sends Houdini to claim the magic that Ales had regained, considering him a liability. Houdini and Ales have a heated discussion, Houdini admits to what happened, and the two argue. This resulted in a fight, which Houdini lost. With his victory and limited magic, Ales takes this to his advantage and seals Houdini in his own hat.

Ales steals The Magician’s identity, using it as a cover while he continues to collect resources–namely yellow Lums–to complete his steampunk Empire. Instead of getting Polokus’ attention this time, Ales’ intent was to overthrow the lackadaisical Bubble Dreamer and rule over the Glade himself.

Rayman Origins happens. By the end of it, he released the Magician from his hat, just before the final confrontation with Rayman. There, he revealed himself as Mr. Dark, absolving the Magician of responsibility.

There’s a proper fight between Mr. Dark and Rayman, however he does flee by the end of it, finding that Rayman was still too strong for him to handle. Yes, he does dance as a distraction. Cue ending chase as normal.

When Mr. Dark was defeated, he was sent to the Moon by the explosion from the empire’s core. While there, he was forced to think about his actions, and basically had a very large slice of humble pie. With what scrap metal he had from the explosion, and from what resources he could gather from the moon, he was able to create a bike-like device to get him back to the Glade.

Meanwhile, Houdini was struggling with the nightmare magic he and Betilla stole from Mr. Dark. With its true master, Ales, completely absent from the Glade, it finally settled into his body without Houdini’s consent.

Thankfully Ales had finally made it back to the Glade by the time the magic started to settle in. The Antitoons Mr. Dark created went to get his attention, practically dragging him to Houdini's cottage. There, Ales took back the magic, just as it was starting to transform Houdini into a nightmare. Officially, Ales Mansay became Mr. Dark once again.

Despite this however, Mr. Dark has no intention of returning to his evil ways. Although he's an anti-hero at best, he starts protecting the Glade in his own way, deciding that if Polokus isn't going to do anything, and if he's going to send a child to do the dirty work, Mr. Dark may as well do the job that he wanted Polokus to do himself. He typically does this while transformed into his old Limbless self, as no one will trust Mr. Dark, and within good reason.

He goes by “Al” while out and about. Is usually in his old Limbless form to not garner any unwanted and negative attention.

Rayman 3 happens, with Dark helping out in the BG by taking care of Hoodlums wherever Rayman doesn’t go during the events of the game.
