Okay i NEEEED to rant about Pogtopia because I know it was a ravine and shit but I need people to consider: lava caves

(all photos taken by me cause I explored one the other day and that’s where I got this idea)

Lava caves or lava tubes are HUGE super long caves that were carved out by literal lava flows and now just sit there and they’re cool as fuck

they’re cold as shit and the roof can vary from being dozens of feet above your head to being so low you have to crouch

there’s piles of rocks and ice formations and sand gardens and they are PITCH BLACK if you don’t have any lights and they paths can be crazy wide or super narrow and the ground is full of drop offs

ones that are made for people to explore have railings and stairs in certain places too and some even have built in lights or like the one I explored let you rent a flashlight

also a fun sidenote the ground is super hard packed sand full of holes from water dripping and it’s so hard packed that you don’t leave footprints (this would not help with Wilbur’s derealization)

anyways I think this would all work SUPER well for pogtopia cause cold/dark/shifting atmosphere/adding railings and pathways is already a thing in pogtopia

About Neanderteen's blind sister, I was thinking about some of her idle habits. Playing with her hands a lot, her nails, grabbing onto grass and mud when sitting down. Also shortly after their introduction, her brother gets her an epic wolf pelt. I need to draw her in it >:)

the zine’s officially out, so I can post my contribution for the @extraordinaryzine :D!

my piece is an interpretation of the caverns on Iron Island 🏝️ so I wanted to incorporate more of the water surrounding it by creating a sea cave to have light spill inside (akin to the modra špilja/blue grotto)

the focus of the zine was on the daily lives of trainers and their pokemon, so Riley uses a spot inside the caverns like this to meditate with his team, although any new Riolu he trains can’t resist wanting to jump into the water to play υ´˶ ･ﻌ･ ˶`υﾉ”

this piece alongside a ton of amazing artists can be found free to download digitally here! (and lastly some closeups bc I liked getting all the little deets down)

#kagarts #trainer riley #stat trainer riley #pokemon dppt #pokemon zine #this one definitely proved to be a bit of a challenge since. backgrounds are a whole other thing #but this got me interested in worldbuilding on a location #got me incorporating various elements from both the games and anime bc they both have their own specific strengths and limitations #that make it fun to interpret and feel more lived in #I can ramble a bit about it but for one the island in the games is just limited to being >place to defeat team galactic at #there’s only really leftover caves after mining expeditions so it’s mostly just abandoned mines type of deal #and riley’s singular house you can visit of course #but the anime includes a port town and scientists studying different parts of the island #so it fills in the gap left behind from game limitations #if there’s a town on an island specifically full of stronger pokemon that adds onto what riley’s job is on said island #to make sure either side of the town and caverns on the island are kept in check/at peace #adds to that job of being iron island’s guardian (and I haven’t even gotten started on aura yet LMAO)#I have a lot of notes but I’m saving any extras for later #go get this digital zine!!! it’s free!!!!!!

A mix between cql and mdzs Inspired by this edit i made at 3 in the morning of Wangxian in the cold pond scene. Kay's comments: I am so weak for this series. I loved H2O so much growing up, in was one of my favourite TV series and to see Wangxian re-imagined in an H2O is just such a joy. The cold pond really fits the whole aesthetic too and ah, Merxian! Merji! I love them so much and it's just such a joyful canon divergence. Excerpt: Fully transformed he dumps down on the floor beside the other merman. They look at each other again. “Urgh, I forgot that I can’t touch water.” Wei Wuxian moans in irritation and slaps his tail on the floorboard a few times. Lan Wangji is in a trance again, taking in the sight of the other also sporting a tail. “Wei Ying knew?” Wei Wuxian sits up with the support of his hands. “Yeah, I found out this morning. I think it’s from the cave yesterday. The tails disappear when we dry.” “Wangji?” A new voice calls from the other room. “Brother came to check on me when I did not meet for morning tea. He has been in the library pavilion looking for answers.” Lan Wangji explains, before his older brother comes over. “You have to answer or else I’ll worr- oh.” Lan Xichen stops in the doorway when he discovers that there’s one more merman present than when he left. Wei Wuxian smiles up at the first jade of Lan and salutes. “Hello, Lan Xichen. Do you mind helping us out?”

I love this analysis. I wonder if they're going to switch things up and instead of locking himself in a coffin for nearly 3 decades with only his nightmares to keep him company, he will have imprisoned himself in the mansion to atone (or to keep his four head beasties from going HAM on the general public). That's a fairly well-kept study that looks pretty lived-in. That would be interesting, because honestly, the original take is a little too melodramatic in this year of our lord 2023.

I also wonder if the outfit and the dramatic, antiquated speech is something he cooked up to scare away any local kids who got too brave and went exploring. I'll bet there were plenty of stories of The Red Man in the spooky old Shinra mansion going around Nibelheim back in the day.

And it'll be kinda funny, too, if the "Hark! A miscreant!" thing was an act and it didn't take much for him to revert to his Turk speech patterns.

Vincent: "WHO DARES DISTURB MY SLUMBER!"

The party: *blinks in silence*
