It Will All Be Okay
Summary: Dean is upset after Sam and Cas were sent to another universe during a hunt, and he doesn't know how or if he'll get them back. [Y/N] is there to comfort him as best she can.
Note: this wasn't requested. I have a lot of requests to go through, and I will get to them, I just felt like writing this for myself this evening.
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Masterlist
Story:
"Dean?" [Y/N] quietly called as she pushed open the door to Dean's room. He was sitting on the edge of his bed, his head in his hands, elbows leaning on his knees. He was broken. He didn't react to the light that flowed into his dark room as the door opened wide enough to let [Y/N] slip in, and he didn't react to movement as she stepped over to stand in front of him. "Dean, it's going to be okay, we can fix this", she said as she knelt down, placing her hands on his knees and looking up at him. His hands were covering his eyes, but she knew that he'd been crying. His jeans were patterned with little tear stains, and he sniffed as he shook his head.
"They're gone".
"No, they're not Dean, they're still alive, we'll get them back, okay?" They'd had a tough hunt recently that had turned sideways when both Sam and Cas ended up being sent into another universe, and Dean and [Y/N] currently had no way of knowing which universe they were sent to or how to get them back. They didn't have the ingredients they needed to open a door, and even if they did, they didn't know where they needed to look. Dean was taking it hard. [Y/N] was too, Cas and Sam were like family to her, but she wasn't as hopeless as Dean was.
"You don't know that", he sniffed again, a slight snap to his tone which she ignored. "You don't know what kind of world they were sent to, they could be dead".
"They're both more than capable of keeping themselves safe. Cas is an angel, he can't get hurt easily. And Sam... you raised him yourself, you know how strong and intelligent he is. He'll probably figure out their way back before we do, and he has Cas to heal him if he does get hurt". She said softly as she started to rub her hands up and down his legs soothingly. She hated seeing him like this, but she knew it was better than Dean pushing it all down inside him and locking her out, or going off to try and find a demon who'd make a deal. If Dean took either of those routes, she'd have a tough time stopping him. This route, the one where he lets his grief out, was a route that she could take with him.
He let his hands fall from his eyes and he finally looked at her. His eyes were red, and tears fell as he blinked. "Do you really think we'll get them back?" He sounded so innocent as he spoke, like he'd believe whatever she said, like she had all the answers. He only showed this side of himself to [Y/N]. He never let anyone else see him like this, he'd always maintained his tough hunter persona around everyone else. He'd cried in front of Sam and Cas, sure, but he'd never let himself be quite so vulnerable and open with them.
"Don't we always?" She asked as she reached her hand up to cup his cheek, using her thumb to wipe away one of his tears. "I promise you, Dean, we will find a way to get them back. We always find a way". She wiped away another tear and he gave her a sad smile, and she smiled back. He closed his eyes and leaned into her touch, placing his hand over hers, like he was afraid she was going to take it away from him. He needed her touch. "I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere", she whispered, and he opened his eyes again to look into hers. He took a deep breath and then reached under her arms, pulling her up and onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face into her neck, breathing her in. She could feel that his breath was shaky as he breathed out and tightened his grip on her. She rubbed his back comfortingly with one hand and slid her fingers into the hair on the back of his head with her other, holding him close.
"Do you want to take a nap? Try and get some sleep? Then we can do a bit of research with more of a clear mind", she suggested, and she felt him nod against her. "Okay, come on then, let's lie down". She slid off his lap and pulled back the covers on his bed, getting in and holding her arms open to him. "Come here".
He sighed, and stood up, kicking off his boots before crawling on top of her and letting her wrap her arms around him, pulling him down to lay his head on her chest. He wrapped his arms around her waist and snuggled into her, closing his eyes as he listened to her heartbeat beneath him. She started to scratch his back lightly, and held his head close to her, gently rubbing his scalp as she stared up at the ceiling. She had no idea how they were going to get Sam and Cas back, but she knew she needed to, and quickly.
Dean was heavy, but it wasn't uncomfortable having his weight on top of her, or having the slight tickle of his hair just under her chin. He never did this normally, he'd always insist on being the one holding her, or being the big spoon. He always wanted to be the one doing the protecting. He needed this though. He needed to feel like there was someone on his side, someone who wanted to be there for him, someone who wanted to help him, and she did that.
He was still terrified that he'd never find his brother or Cas, and even more terrified that he'd find them too late, but now he had a little bit of hope. He smiled as he felt [Y/N] kiss the top of his head, and she pulled the covers up over his shoulders, keeping him warm. "I'm here, and I'll be here when you wake up. Let yourself rest Dean, we'll get them back and it will all be okay". He couldn't explain how she did it, how she could give him hope and comfort when just moments ago he'd felt so hopeless and frustrated. He knew she was right though, she always was. He knew that if she said it would all be okay, then it would all be okay. He sighed as he let himself enjoy the feeling of her breathing beneath him, and her hands on his back and in his hair. He let himself drift off to a calming sleep in her hold. He let himself be okay for now.
The end

My Everything- Dean Winchester
Tumblr media
Summary: Dean’s anger gets the best of him.
Pairing: Dean Winchester x reader
Warnings: Swearing, angst, verbal fighting, mentions of death (no actual death is included), sad Dean, sad reader, happy ending
Word count: 1.2k
My Masterlist
“I don’t know how much longer I can put up with this.” Dean says, sitting on the edge of your shared bed, rubbing his face with his hands.
You look at him with shock. “What? What do you mean?” The two of you had been fighting for the last 2 hours. You had made a decision on a hunt that had put you in danger, saving Dean from the witch in the process.
“This. Putting up with all this stupidity. It’s infuriating.”
“Are you actually serious? I saved you from that witch. You’d be dead if I hadn’t done what I did.”
“No, I wouldn’t be. I would’ve been fine. But throwing yourself into the fire was a stupid decision. If I hadn’t reacted fast enough, YOU would be dead.” He points at you as he speaks, the look of absolute anger on his face.
“This isn’t the first time you’ve done something stupid on a hunt, and if it keeps going, then who knows what will happen. Maybe I could be killed.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“It means, I’m done. This is over.”
“You don’t really mean that.” Your voice is barely above a whisper.
“No, I do, I’m done. Get out.” He’s turned away from you, looking at something on his laptop at his desk.
Tears sit at the corner of your eyes, threatening to spill. He didn’t turn to look at you, refusing to face you.
“Fine.”
You let out small sobs, curling into yourself. You were lying on the bed in your old room. It was yours when you first moved into the bunker, but when you and Dean started dating and spending every night together, you stopped sleeping in the room. It wasn’t long before you moved all your stuff to Dean’s, making this room feel foreign and empty. Cold.
You eventually fell asleep, tears staining your cheeks.
Dean didn’t sleep at all. He spent the whole night either hunched over his laptop, distracting himself with research, or staring up at the ceiling. He didn’t want you to leave, he wanted you back. All he could focus on during the fight was his anger towards your decisions. He didn’t want to lose you. He couldn’t lose you. And putting yourself at risk meant that he couldn’t protect you as easily, making him more scared that he would lose yet another loved one.
He felt so useless during hunts. He knew you could make your own decisions. Smart ones too. But you also made decisions that would save Dean, and Dean didn’t want that.
Dean got up at 6:30, deciding to get ready for the day and search for another potential hunt to distract himself with.
It was at 10:30 when he realised you hadn’t gotten up yet. Sam was already up, having gone for a run and now researching with Dean. You always were an early riser.
Dean went searching, hoping you were in the bunker and hadn’t left in the middle of the night. He passed the kitchen, not seeing you sipping on a coffee that you usually did. He passed your shared room before stopping at your old one.
He listened to see if he could hear you, but what he heard broke his heart. He could hear your muffled sobs.
You had woken up not long after falling asleep, struggling to stay asleep without Dean next to you. The both of you relied on one another to have nightmare-free sleep, and it had become such a habit that when separated it felt impossible to function.
When you woke up, you quickly recalled why you were back in your old room, breaking your heart all over again. You struggled to keep the tears at bay. You felt guilty, but you weren’t sure why. You were upset that you couldn’t convince Dean that you knew what you were doing. Angry that he wouldn’t listen to you. Broken that he had kicked you out without letting you speak.
A soft knock disrupted your thoughts. You looked towards the door, hoping that if you kept silent, whoever was at the door would leave.
“Y/N? I know you’re in there.” Dean’s voice was soft, it’s what usually kept you calm, but this time, it was making your heart race. “Y/N? Please, sweetheart. Let me in.” He knocked again.
You considered hiding under your duvet but decided against that. Instead, you stood up and opened the door.
“Oh, Sweetheart, thank god. I’m so-” You walked passed him, brushing against him but you didn’t make eye contact. You walked towards the kitchen, grabbing a mug and pouring yourself some coffee before sitting at the bench, staring at the dark liquid in your mug.
“Sweetheart? Y/n? Please talk to me. I’m so sorry about last night. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that.” You didn’t turn around. “Please. I miss your voice. Talk to me. Scream at me. Yell. Throw things. I don’t care. I just need you to talk to me.” You said nothing.
“Okay, if you won’t talk then at least hear me out? I’m sorry honey. I really am. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that. I shouldn’t have said those things.” Dean walked around to the other side of the bench to face you, but you didn’t look up at him. “You have every right to be upset with me. I know you can hold you’re own. I know you’re capable of looking after yourself, fighting the things we hunt for. You’re so talented and strong. It’s just- I’m scared, okay? I said it. I can’t save you. I can’t protect you. And it has nothing to do with you’re abilities. I’m just so scared to lose you. What if something gets you? What if something is just that much stronger that you can’t fight it. I can’t lose you. I need you.” Dean’s holding your hands, causing you to look up slightly.
“I can’t sleep without you. I can barely survive if you’re not there. I can’t breathe. You’re my everything, and if I lose you, then I have nothing. So forgive me for trying to protect you, but knowing you’re safe means everything.”
You look up at Dean, sighing before opening your mouth. “Have you considered that you’re my everything? That if I lose you then I would lose myself? I love you so much, and I would do anything to keep you safe.” Your voice wobbled as tears filled your eyes again. “You can be so reckless on hunts. God knows how many times I have had to clean up you’re injuries, sew you up, bandage you up. Of course, I would do it again but if you keep risking your life, then one day you’re going to lose it. And then what happens to me? I would die if I lost you.”
Dean walks around to you, wrapping his arms around you. “I’m sorry. I guess I didn’t consider how much I meant to you. I’ll try and be better. I’ll make better decisions, I’ll try to be safe. If you do. You need to not put your life on the line all the time to save me.” Your arms wrap around him.
“Yeah, okay. I’m sorry too.” He smiles before pressing a kiss to your lips.

i watched the Old Guard yesterday bc I was interested (it was very good) and I wanted to give Hob Gadling, my blorbo, some immortal friends in my head and after wathing a couple of times and puttering about the fandom I came to the conclusion that Hob would make the Guards uncomfortable.
Not least bc his circumstances are different in the ways that matter (its will to live per century, and he can die whenever he'd like) but bc Hob doesnt have the sense if martyrdom the rest of them do. They never chose their immortality; they do the best they can with it.
Hob DID choose his immortality. He CONTINUES to choose it. He RELISHES in it.
Already that marks him as different, by core of faith and belief. Men like Hob are dangerous; bc people who deeply enjoy life, enjoy immortality on the scale he does without much regard for what it means are the kind of people who would kill for it. Whatever it takes. He can and will and HAS left things and people behind for the sake of it. If it took killing a man once a century he would have done it. Hes done worse. Theres always someone out there who deserves to die, by mercy of themself or others.
Hob is CONSTANTLY compared to the Corinthian by the sheer apetite for life; his own and others.
Thats bound to make the Guards uncomfortable. It would probably explain how Andy would prefer not to have him in her ranks. Hes too dangerous, and hes not a good person. His motivations are not something she understands, and definitely not something she trusts.
Theres a fanfic premise in there somewhere

October in The Bunker (Dean Winchester x reader)
WARNINGS: none, this is pure, unadulterated, spooky-themed fluff. no pronouns used for reader. written with self-indulgent, romantic intent, but can be read as platonic. 400 words. A/N: hii friends! this is my first ever fanfic/one-shot and I'm really nervous about posting it lol. I've always said that I would never write fics because I feel like I have no idea how humans interact (lmao), but I need a creative outlet and I'm currently trapped in my bed with an injury, so I figured this was the perfect time to give it a shot. prompt is from this list!
"Oh, honey! I'm home!" you beamed, entering the bunker with arms full of bags. "I thought you just went out for bread," Dean responded, brows furrowed. You carefully placed the bags on the table in the center of the room, a huge grin sprawling across your face. "I did, but I may have gotten a bit sidetracked," you said as you pulled a purple Jack-O-Lantern out of one of the bags. "I wanted to decorate the bunker for Halloween. Make it feel more… homey, I guess." Dean mirrored your grin. He loves Halloween. Sam never understood it - he always says that it's no different than your everyday life. Dean was happy to finally have someone else who shared his love for the holiday, and with it being the first holiday in the bunker, you wanted to go all out. Dean excitedly started going through the bags of décor you had placed on the table. There were pumpkins, skeletons, candles, fairy lights, the whole nine yards in an array of different colors. He held up one of the neon pink skeletons you'd purchased, sporting a somewhat disgusted look. "What's this?" he inquired. "A skeleton," you stated plainly. "No, the color. Pink isn't a Halloween color!" "Who said that?" you protested. "I said that!" he retorted. "Well," you laughed, "I'm the one who bought the decorations, and I say it is a Halloween color!" Accepting his defeat, Dean continued sorting through the bags, pulling out each individual item and placing them on the table. Once he was finished, you asked him to hang the fairy lights on the railings as you placed the tabletop decorations around the other living areas. You even bought Sam his own Jack-O-Lantern for his room, despite the fact that he's not a fan of the holiday. You made your way back to the front of the bunker and were greeted with beautiful, sparkling lights in orange and purple with interwoven spider-webs. "How did I do?" Dean asked proudly from the top of the stairs. You couldn't contain your joy, squealing "It's perfect, Dean! Thanks for helping me!" He made his way back down the stairs and engulfed you in a hug. "No problem, sweetheart. But you know Sam is gonna kill you when he gets back, right?" he chuckled. "Eh," you responded, still wrapped in his warm embrace, "he's outvoted, anyway. 2 to 1, baby."

I read too many otome isekai mangas SO
AU where Adam gets hit by a bus and dies, waking up in Supernatural Lovers! A Game of Destined Love!, some cheesy BL otome game his college roommate was obsessed with.
Set in some fantastical land where angels live amongst humans, the protagonist crown prince Dean Winchester is engaged to the neighboring angelic kingdoms prince, Michael, and he ends up befriending and/or seducing the whole angelic cast, including Michael’s three brothers- Lucifer, Raphael, and Gabriel- and a cousin- Castiel- who was the endgame. There was even a special ending where Dean’s younger brother, Sam, could be added to the harem, though that one ended tragically.
Adam is none of these people, he’s the younger half-brother who was the son of a maid and recently legitimized. He ends up being a plot device who tries to steal Michael from Dean through any means necessary and gets killed for his efforts.
Adam is not having this. He’s 13 right now and after a week of coming to terms with this decides that he is not about that life. Honestly, if John could delegitamize him right now that would be great! But it’s not going to happen so Adam just has to live with it and avoid anything that might kill him. It would help if he knew more details but he tuned his roommate out so this is all he has to work with.
That is until he meets Michael. Handsome, courteous and gentle, if a bit cold and overly formal, Michael, with his glorious wing and shinning halo. He’s just Adam’s type and Adam hates how his kokoro goes doki doki at the sight of him. And well, what would if hurt for him to spend just a little bit of time with Michael, chatting him up at royal parties or banquets, walking together around the palace, reading together in the library, the times Michael picks him up bridal style to fly him around the kingdom. He’s attractive and seeking Adam out at this point himself!
And Michael? Well, him and Dean don’t really get along very well anyway and he seems more interested in Michael’s cousin than Michael himself. Plus, two crown princes marrying each other is a logistics nightmare. He would much rather have the cuter and much more likable youngest brother anyway.

Could I request a story where Y/N has a boyfriend, who is very verbally abusive and Dean shows up to see Y/N, in the midst of one of their arguments and comes to defend her? She has a bad anxiety attack and Dean is there to comfort her and show her she deserves better? Thank you xx
Hey! I've just posted your request, thank you for sending it to me ♥️ You Don't Deserve That

Mammon deserves to have someone who misses him when he’s away.
Imagine: Mammon’s not home for the week. He’s away, doing photoshoots or dealing with witches or whatever it is he does. His brothers are just chilling as usual. This is nothing to even blink at, much less be upset about.
But MC? Nope! He’s their Mammon, and they love him so much!
Imagine MC turning to the side where Mammon usually is, automatically going to whisper some dumb comment to him, and then deflating when they find no Mammon there. Imagine MC absentmindedly reaching their hand out to that side, going to hold his hand out of habitual impulse—and being confused for a moment to find empty air… then hiding their sadness. Imagine them distracting themself by hanging out with all the others, who they DO love a lot, but… Mammon’s not there, and the house feels incomplete. They’ve spent lots of time with the others without Mammon before, but he’s never been away so long before, and everything feels wrong.
Imagine Mammon’s reaction to his brothers (probably Asmo, to tease him, or Beel, out of sympathy for the human) texting him to tell him that the human’s moping without him. Imagine them catching MC doing one of those things on camera, because Mammon has to see it to really believe that someone misses him so much.
Imagine Mammon coming home, and the human regaining their energy just at the sound of his voice announcing that he’s back. Imagine them running to the door, pouncing on him for hugs with such excitement that he TOTALLY would have been knocked to the floor if he weren’t supernaturally strong—you know, being a demon.
“You’re home!!!!” MC shouts, not bothering to contain their excitement because they love him, they’re so happy to be reunited, they missed him so much, and he deserves to see that. It’s good for him.
Imagine how happy he’d be to get a reaction like that!
Imagine Mammon and MC inevitably ending up in MC’s room, as they always do, and Mammon seeing that MC has stolen the blanket off his bed. It’s in a messy pile on top of their own blanket, it looks like MC had been curled up under it just before he returned. Because it smells like him, and it’s warm and soft and big, so it’s the closest thing to a hug from him that they could have gotten while he was away.
Imagine how his heart would melt. Imagine how loved he would feel.
Idk, I think he’d cry

Why There’ll Never Be Another Good Omens 2 Experience
The strangest thing happened after a few days post my watching of S2. I got a wave of real, bittersweet sadness.
Not due to the obvious – I was dealing with that too, but with more excitement than anything – but because I realized something, as a writer and consumer of media. I realized that it’s unlikely I’ll ever get a media experience close to what I experienced at the end of Good Omens 2. Because really, its setup was absolutely unparalleled – in general, and for myself personally.
I am currently writing my third romance, and what I’ve learned primarily about the genre, the way for it to really work, is that there needs to be something keeping the couple apart initially. The more things keeping the couple apart, the stronger the romance hits. The more the couple clashes with each other, the better it is. Societal norms, class issues, initial dislike, literal danger—all these aspects are what make a romance a story. It’s that conflict that creates the compelling narrative. No romance was ever popular because things worked out well from the beginning – it’s that “look at what we were, and look at us now” aspect that gives readers/watchers that satisfaction. It’s the “I can’t believe this happened” effect. The “I would never have foreseen this” effect. The “they’ll never be together” effect. It’s why forbidden romances are so incredibly popular.
Another aspect that makes a romance story really work well is the amount of time it takes for the romance to develop. A couple that gets together after a few days? Eh, it’s tricky. You better make it really dramatic somehow. A great example is Titanic – class differences, betrothal, and a huge amount of danger threatens this couple, so them being in love after only a few days works. But what really sells this one is because we can see how this romance has survived beyond those few days. We see it 80 years in the future, still there, in the memory of Rose. That is why it hits so hard. Romances that span over long periods of time (especially ones that are bittersweet/tragic) hit so much more than ones spanning a short period.
But wait! There’s more!
You can up this effect by not only having the romance take time in story…but having it take time in real life, for the viewer/reader.
This is why romances in TV shows that take years to finally work out are so compelling. It’s that “Pam and Jim” effect, that will-they-won’t-they deal. We are waiting right along with them, and we’re feeling that same relief when all those things keeping them apart finally fall away. This is harder to pull off, because there’s never that guarantee that the story will make it that far. TV shows get cancelled, creators lose interest or die, etc. So it’s not just “Will They, Won’t They,” it’s “Will They, Won’t They, Can They Even Try?”
This is also compounded by that fear that it won’t happen in-story after all, and while in romances you’re pretty positive that things work out (they kinda have to, for it to be labeled a “romance”) in other media, there’s always that possibility. Look at Community – there’s a forbidden/conflict-ridden romance that didn’t end up working out, even though it was “Will They, Won’t They”d for six entire seasons. You also then have shows and ships where fans are almost sure it won’t happen, but still hold out hope. (See: Supernatural, Sherlock, etc.)
Now. Now look at Good Omens. Look at that absolutely unparalleled, unbelievable set up. It’s unbelievable because it takes almost every single thing that makes a romance compelling, and not only uses all of them, but dials them up to 11.
Why are they at odds? Why are they forbidden from being together?
Because they are literally the most opposing forces you can imagine in Western Canon. They are the Angel Guarding The Gate and The Serpent of Eden. The literal only way you could’ve made this a bigger deal would’ve been to make it God and Satan, and even that would’ve not hit as hard, because it’d be like two CEOs getting together – there’s no fear of a higher power adding that delicious conflict. And to add to all this, in real life, the couple is portrayed as two men, which adds that second meta level of conflict.
And what fear/danger is keeping this couple apart?
Not just familial disappointment—but disappointment from God and Heaven and Hell. Not just moral guilt, but the guilt of potentially dooming the entire Earth. And finally, on top of that, the very real danger of being killed. Not only that, but making it as though you never even existed.
And in real life, they face all those roadblocks that queer couples in media have been battling for years and years, but I'll talk about that more in a second.
Okay, then Time. How long have they been kept apart?
For…all of it.
All of the time that ever existed.
They, quite literally, could not have been kept apart longer.
And this leads into those final two points, the ones that actually really sell it. Because I can sit down right now and write a story about an angel and a demon falling for each other at the beginning of time against all odds…but what I can’t do is to have already written it thirty-three years ago.
That’s how long this story has existed. Thirty. Three. Years.
I’m not even counting how this is using characters that have existed as opposing forces for thousands of years. I’m not even saying that, even though that’s also a part of it. But besides that, this story, this exact story started thirty-three years ago, and is still being continued by the author to this day.
Do you know how uncommon that is?
Yes, we have canon that has lasted for many, many years. Hundreds. We get new versions of beloved older stories ever year. But it’s so very rare that they are by the same creator. We get new Sherlock Holmes content, but it is not written by Arthur Conan Doyle. This, on the other hand, is actual canon content, written by the author of the original. That is unbelievably rare.
That means we’ve got a fandom where some people have grown up with these characters. People who read it at twenty are fifty-three. People who read it at fifty are eighty-three. Kids who saw their parents reading the book now have children of their own. It is a cult classic that has been in the hearts of so many people for generations. Me, personally, I fell in love with it ten years ago, at age twenty, at the very beginning of my own writing journey. This story means so much to people, because it’s stood that test of time.
And yet, this story was never explicitly romantic. So many saw it that way, but it was never something confirmed. Because this was a book from the 90s, at a time where this kind of romance just wasn’t in popular media if it wasn’t played as a joke. It was, back then, the same kind of “forbidden” as a romance between angel and demon. So people imagined, but they never expected anything more. And they’ve continued not expecting more, because even in the 2019 first season, there was never any true confirmation of anything, and people accepted it. You have a 33-year-old story here – it’s possible that this major change/confirmation could happen, but all things considered, it was unlikely. You would never blame the creator for not making major developments to a story they wrote with their late friend a lifetime ago. And no one in production was saying a word to confirm or deny, but we’ve seen all this before. It was a Will-They-Won’t-They…Probably-Not situation.
And then you have the end of S2.
And that's where that bittersweet sadness comes in for me, personally. Not at a huge level, not to the point where I'd have it any other way, but it's there regardless. Because I realized that this was a unique situation that could never be replicated, for me, and likely for many, especially readers of the book pre-show. In all likelihood, I would never again experience a romantic payoff like this one. Because it was the most forbidden of forbidden romances, the couple of which have been kept apart by the worst of all dangers and highest level of guilt for the longest amount of time literally possible, written over a real-life span of time where this kind of romance went from “completely taboo even in real life” to “finally acceptable in popular media,” written by the same creator, and not confirmed as canon until the story reached the age of Jesus Christ himself.
And the real kicker is, even after everything these two literally star-crossed lovers have gone through…they’re still being kept apart. They’ve still not taken down those final, seemingly insurmountable barriers between them. It wasn’t a “here you go 😊” move to make long-time fans happy – it’s being used as a perfect, painful plot point. After 33 years, we’re still having to wait longer.
Chef's kiss. Couldn’t have been a better set up if it was mathematically calculated. And yet, the best part is that it happened organically.
It just works.

“I know how scary it must of been. Dean and I have both been possessed...but you survived it. And, I don’t have all the right words for but - you’re safe now, (Y/N). And I will not let it happen again, I promise you that.”

It’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it, but the Alan Turing poster really tells us so much about Will that I consider it to be a significant piece of foreshadowing for S5.
First, let’s dissuade ourselves of the notion that Will chose Turing for his hero project for nerd reasons -- Will’s preferred flavour of nerdery is escapist fantasy, not computer science. He doesn’t know what an IP address is and the first thing he thinks of when he hears modem noises is a movie he likes.
Tumblr media
No, he chose Turing because he admires him for being a gay man who accomplished so much in his short life.
On one hand, that’s pretty heart-warming -- the fact he’s willing to identify with other gay men and look up to them as role models shows us he’s making good progress in accepting his identity. On the other hand, it’s heart-breaking, because Turing’s story is not a happy one -- he was caught having a sexual relationship with a man and forced to choose between jail or chemical castration. He chose castration.
I remind you: Will identifies with this guy.
Will is growing up under the twin specters of AIDS and homophobia and likely assumes he’s destined to die young too. He’s been abused and bullied so much, I imagine he’s heard and internalized it all: that he deserves to die, that he’s disgusting, that he’ll never be fulfilled in life.
So when puberty begins crawling its way inside him and implants those shameful desires that make gay men so worthy of abuse... he chooses castration.

For all the sad pining he does in S4, we never really see Will express desire for Mike -- he never checks him out or shows signs of nervousness when they touch. He behaves with perfect platonic decorum at all times...
...unless we consider That One Scene With The Hose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sexual interpretations of this scene are controversial, and I can understand why; we’re so used to seeing Will as this innocent, immature little boy that it's shocking to catch him fantasizing so lustfully, even though these sorts of thoughts are pretty normal for a 15 year-old. But I think that’s the point. We’re supposed to feel uncomfortable about this, because Will feels uncomfortable about it too.
He’s done well in accepting his identity, but he’s an absolute repressed mess when it comes to accepting his sexuality.
So, that’s what the Turing poster tells us about Will. Here’s where the foreshadowing comes in: Will is not the only queer-coded character to have been metaphorically castrated.
Tumblr media
Henry’s experience bears striking similarities to Turing’s: he too was caught engaging in a natural but forbidden behaviour and forced by his government to undergo a medical procedure to suppress that behaviour.
His villain speech to El in 4x07, which is ostensibly about his powers, also reads very strongly as a scathing criticism of heteronormativity, and it’s covered in rainbow motifs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The metaphor here is obvious: Henry’s powers are a manifestation of his homosexuality.
Which implies that Will’s homosexuality can also manifest as powers. They’re repressed because he’s repressed.
Tumblr media
It’s not a coincidence that the sexual tension was through the fucking roof in the infamous sauna scene. Every time Will’s supernatural ability to sense the Mind Flayer triggers in S3, Mike is also nearby.
What’s interesting about Mike is that his queer acceptance issues mirror Will’s: Mike has a healthy relationship with his sexuality (he casually checks guys out and plasters his bedroom walls with posters of buff dudes) but he just can’t bring himself to accept what this implies about his identity.
Tumblr media
Always with the symmetry, these two. They complement each other perfectly; one’s hang-up is the other’s strength. They have a lot to teach each other about being queer.
And as repressed as they are, I think they want to learn from each other -- Will lets himself get flustered when Mike flirts with him in his bedroom, and Mike hangs on to every word of wisdom Will shares with him in their heart-to-hearts.
Internalized homophobia is a powerful force, but their bond is so strong that it empowers them to fight back.
Tumblr media
Henry’s powers symbolize his anger at being mistreated and his desire to take that anger out on the world... but Will’s powers symbolize self-acceptance and love.
So he isn’t just going to defeat Vecna with his powers, and he isn’t just going to get the boy: these two things are one and the same.
