THOUGHTS ON 376 TIME! WOOHOO!!

Three thoughts came into my mind on this page.

One, that “we still haven’t had our chat about romance” is a thought in ochako’s head, not just a distraction. (Very interesting..) But I may just be reading the bubbles incorrectly, as I’m aware that last chapter she said this to Ochako. Could it be Toga remembering it? Another possibility too.

Two, that Toga believes this is Ochako trying to TAKE BACK her rejection in some light. To my knowledge, (and if the translators didn’t mess anything up too badly, sorry y’all I’m aware it won’t be perfect no matter what) “taking a hint” is often used in English to describe someone not backing off romantically. The hint being, “I don’t have feelings for you”. (Edit: this post translated it in its most literal form, and it said “persistent” so, I still stand by what I said. It’s sounds like someone rejecting a romantic confession)

And number three, the most important. “Can’t take a hint” is the most tongue and cheek thing I’ve seen. IT SOUNDS LIKE IN MY VERY BIASED SHIPPER MIND THAT, THE AUDIENCE, AKA US, HAVENT GOTTEN THE HINT WITH THESE TWO.

I saw literal radio silence when chapter 375 came out. Now, I’m aware that togachako is a bit of a rare pair. Not only is it a sapphic ship, but it’s also with a more “problematic” dynamic, and with a character that was introduced later on into the series. Wayyyy after ochako was introduced as Izuku’s love interest.

Most bkdk shippers either outright ignore ochako, hate her, or ship her with Tsu. I only judge one option out of the three, as it’s usually born out of misogyny. (Purposefully or not, I’ve seen people love male characters with the same “annoying” traits ochako has. Tbh, most people hate her bc she’s a girl and she’s feminine. That’s it)

Anyway yeah, and the only people who really care about her character development are one: Ochako stans (love y’all <3) two: togachako shippers (me) and three: izu//ocha shippers. (Censored so that I don’t tread on their territory as I’m about to be a little…. Eh to them and their interpretations)

Now, izu//ocha shippers to me are pretty neutral. There’s the dudebros who I think everyone hates, and then there’s the normal batch of people. A mix of people who enjoy the series very casually, or people who just generally like them.

Because of this fact, however, they are, like me, also biased. Meaning if I presented my thoughts on togachako to an izu//ocha shipper, I will and have been called a little bit of a conspiracy theorist about it. That I’m in denial, yada yada. All that junk. And if I’m wrong? Then shit, guess it’s me getting kicked in my ass all over again for trusting a shonen writer. I have fandom to help me cope. I’ll live.

Now, because of this bias, it leaves the interpretations of chapters 289, 342, 348, and even 375 all deemed as “izu//ocha chapters”, because what else could it be leading up to other than that?

And that’s why I HOPE and I PRAY that Horikoshi pulls the rug out from under your feet. I hope and pray every day that’s what happens. If only to confirm in my mind that my eye for detail isn’t sketchy or rough around the edges. Or that my conclusions aren’t just delusions. I don’t like to be wrong, thank you very much.

The other thing I wanted to delve a little into. Toga’s mind is a labyrinth that I don’t think even us as the audience has quite cracked yet.

I like to think I understand people. Not in the casual social way, god no. Social cues are not my thing. But reading people? Getting to the bottom of their issues and wrenching them from their depths and into the open for someone to see? THATS what I’m good at. Understanding a person and how they work. Because, let me tell you, there is a reason for each and every thing a person does. Every little detail, from the way they stand to how they choose their words. How someone reacts defensively and offensively are the biggest giveaways to who a person actually is.

Toga Himiko’s walls are miles thick. They appear sheen, like she wears her emotions on her sleeve, but that’s just not TRUE. Before she broke, it was forced neutrality to the wrongdoings in her life. Possibly even any form of happiness wasn’t deemed respectable to wear. The mask was on at all times, no matter what, but now? Now it’s a smile. The mask is still there, it still exists. It’s just in a different form, something made to protect HER rather than EVERYONE else. It’s interesting.

Another notable thing about Toga, she’s cried once, in the entire manga. She has cried once.

And it wasn’t even for Twice’s death.

If toga were to cry at Twice’s death, if toga were to express any other vulnerability other than anger at his death, then she would be left with two things: the mask, shattered; the one that mattered. And two, she would have to accept that everyone was right about her. That she was a tragedy.

And not only was she a tragedy, but she had to accept that death affected her. That the love she “experienced” for people like Izuku or Sato, wasn’t love. Because she loved twice, yet never wanted to BECOME him.

And I can hear it now, “doesn’t she want to be ochako too?” No, actually. She wants to be like her.

And, if you ship bkdk, you probably follow some other analysis creators on here. People who have talked about Izuku wanting to become LIKE Katsuki, not become him.

And that begs the question, does ochako want to become deku? Or become like him?

I think it’s both.

The thing is, Ochako ofc can’t physically become him, but at every turn of trying to be like him, it hasn’t really let her evolve. It’s held her back, actually, like at the sports festival. Ntm, this requires some level of natural imitation, something Ochako clearly lacks in her relationship to Izuku.

But she does not lack with Toga.

Idk if I showed it here before, and if I didn’t, I apologize for not explaining completely at least. Essentially, Ochako naturally imitates how Toga looks in both her hairdo and some choice facial expressions. Toga naturally imitates through posing techniques mid air and behavior parallels. I don’t feel like grabbing the panels, sorry!!

But back to Himiko, I think that she desperately wants close connection, is extremely insecure about herself, and actively hides behind smiles. Not only that, but she’s been trying to imitate shigaraki this entire time by having his “I don’t care about love and I wanna destroy the world” attitude and disdain. Showing she’s trying to find the most powerful people in her mind right now to hide from herself, her own sadness. She wants to hide from her rejection, and views the rejection itself as her. She knows that people see something especially unnerving and wrong about her, yet doesn’t completely understand why. So this rejection sensitivity is not only heightened by her trauma, but also Twice’s death.

With him gone, she now becomes unnervingly aware that she does not like death the way she thought she did. She also can’t escape the reality that no one has ever truly cared about Toga Himiko as a person.

And in her mind, following Jin’s death, no one ever will.

One last note, these two panels felt like parallels to me. Might be a stretch.

it’s just like for a while i feel like every time a piece of media comes out even if it’s not popular there’s always a love interest and i feel like not every story has to be a love story or involve one. and what REALLY got me thinking this was how originally in itsv, gwen and miles were supposed to kiss before they went into the portal and i was like why? like i can see their chemistry in the first film but the story can go the same way even with them as friends and when i see that in movies I’m like “did they really have to be love interests?”

MORE SO it’s just like every time a girl and a guy are friends in a movie or show it just feels like they always put a romance between them and it’s like yes, it makes good writing. are gwen and miles cute together? yes the dynamic between them is so good. but did it NEED to happen? like i just wanna see a film where a male and a female can be strong companions without a hinted at romance.

you decide on a mini dress that has ellie nearly foaming at the mouth because of how tight and short it is. she almost catches a glimpse of your ass when you bend down to put your shoes on. (but it’s not like she hasn’t seen you practically stark naked, y’all share room… she’s seen plenty to keep her wank bank full). 

unfortunately for you the girl was lowkey ignoring you at the party even though she’s the one who asked you to come. so instead you drank your misery away and got a little too plastered. you ended up calling ellie and cry to her. she tells you to stay there and she’s come and get you, like the good best friend she is. in her weird and awkward ellie way she comforts you, (on the inside she’s seething at the girl who treated you like this). she’s practically your crutch walking back to your guys’ shared room. 

we get very soft ellie here taking care of her drunk best friend (love of her life). she sits you down and helps you remove your makeup as you mumble on about the shitty girl. gives you some water and one of her shirts to change into. bc of how drunk you are you nearly flash her due to your carelessness when taking off your dress, but she had turned around right on time. 

“are you decent yet?” she asks bc you hadn’t said anything. instead she feels a pair of arms wrap around her middle and a weight on her back. 

“thank you so much ellie, i love you more than you could ever imagine”. her heart nearly skips a beat at your words. 

“i love you too.” she softly says back, she can’t help feeling her heart get fuzzy but she reminds herself that you’re drunk and taking nonsense.

ellie shakes off her thoughts and tries to get you to bed but you’re being a stubborn little drunk and very much refusing to get on your own bed even though you're visibly tired. you whine about wanting to sleep in her bed with her bc you’re sad and want to be comforted by someone. her face flushes.it wasn’t weird for the two of you to share a bed, you two have been friends for years, it just became a lot less frequent on ellie’s part to want to as she realized her feelings and felt weird about it.

but because you wanted to she agrees and you immediately hop in her bed and curl under the cover, waiting for her. as soon as she does you cuddle up against her and grab her hand to hold. after a while of silence you pipe up 

“i miss when we used.” you lamented as your thoughts ran free. 

“why?” ellie asks.

“because i like being with you and near you.”

you nuzzle your face into the crook of her neck and whine, “you don’t get it ellie”

ellie’s brain fr just short circuits when you finish your rant, “you’re in love… with me???” genuinely so surprised bc our girl is super oblivious. 

you don’t say anything because you’re upset and embarrassed that she doesn’t return your feelings. 

she sits up and turns you onto your back, your eyes a squeezed shut. she silently laughs at your childishness before softly caressing your face, “open your eyes, [y/n], i want to tell you something.”

when you do she leans down closer to your face, your lips mere inches away,

“i’m in love with you too.” she whispers. as soon as those words leave her mouth you reach up and kiss her, like you’ve both wanted to for so many years.you both have a goofy grin when you pull away :))

ellie spoons you the whole night because she want you close.

Lmao… it was always this bad lmao. Steve Stan’s and stancy Stan’s and anyone that hates Jonathan (and Nancy tbh) have always been dreadful. Having to deal with billy Stans… people pushing weird not canon ships for no reason but just because… no it’s always been awful. The fandom is stupid. X-Men ‘97 Spoilers Below the Cut

I don’t know about y’all but I’m feeling TOTALLY NORMAL about the way the most recent episode ended.

Glad to see Magneto’s still around, but damn I love me a fucked up homoerotic borderline torture scene sometimes.

Can’t wait to see him waste this dude.

Also, I am not up to speed on all the X-Men lore but don’t they have time travel? I feel like if there was ever a time to use it, it would be now? I was just really surprised to see them burying everyone.

Magneto is my #1 X-Man tho. Really digging his vibe right now with all the fucked up political bullshit going on in real life.

I feel like this show hits the LGBTQ+ experience beats pretty well at times. I’m behind the times on the rep there. I was never super into X-Men, though I watched the cartoons growing up. It took me a while to delve back into the movies too because I got hardcore body horror freaked out when that dude got liquified in the first one.

My tolerance for that kind of thing used to be waaaay lower than it is now. I had to leave the theater because the gore at the beginning of Zombieland gave me a literal panic attack, haha. I didn’t start watching The Walking Dead until like 2015 for the same reason. Thankfully that kind of thing doesn’t really bother me anymore. It’s weird now to think back to how it used to.

Of course movie theaters in general used to give me panic attacks. It was almost a guarantee for a while that if I went into a movie theater, I was gonna have one. Zombieland was the first and maybe only time I ever had to leave because of one though. Usually I’d just pretend like nothing was happening as far as my friends were concerned and just force my way through them.

Tbh, Ted Lasso was the first time I felt I saw a really good representation of what a panic attack could feel like. Internally it’s like your world is falling apart around you, but externally it can be pretty innocuous unless you’re having major physical symptoms. If you have them often enough, you get pretty good at masking them. I’ve had them loads of times around family and friends and didn’t tell anyone.

Thankfully I don’t have panic attacks nearly that often anymore. And yes, I 100% probably should have said something to my loved ones at the time. But it can be hard when you know you’re experiencing something that isn’t rational and there’s not really anything they can do to help except ride the wave alongside you.

True, some triggers for panic attack can be pretty distressing. But I’ve definitely had them other times where I was just annoyed as hell that my body decided to randomly throw an anxiety party and it’d just be a matter of waiting it out.

Tbh, birth control really helped with mine for a while. I had really bad PMDD and my panic attacks were almost like clockwork with my cycle. I used to dread the impending doom I’d feel as I got closer to the date. I went from having panic attacks multiple times a month to only every so often. Antidepressants have been a godsend on that front too. I had no idea they also worked with anxiety because I never took them specifically for it until 2022.

I got massively sidetracked, but I really enjoy talking about mental health on here. It helps me reflect and process a lot. Sometimes it feels like just casually talking about it takes away some of fear and self-stigma away. That’s also one of the main things I’ve been learning about in therapy, not engaging in avoidance thoughts/behaviors when it comes to my OCD.

That also reminds me of what Marcus says a lot on LPOTL. “Mental illness isn’t your fault, but it is your responsibility.” It fucking sucks, but it’s true. In my experience, there’s a huge difference between interacting with someone who’s actively trying to live with their mental illness rather than choosing to ignore it and refusing to seek treatment.

Not that seeking and finding the right treatment and meeting your mental illness head on are easy things to do. It’s a bit privileged to say that. But as someone who didn’t get treatment for most of their life because they didn’t realize they needed treatment (“my symptoms aren’t that bad, it’s just a little anxiety, my prior attempts to seek help blew up in my face, x family member has this and is fine, etc”), lemme just tell ya I bet I am a much more enjoyable person to be around now.

I’m lucky in that I don’t believe I’ve ever lost any family or friends over my previously untreated mental illness. However, I know that I’m a hell of a lot happier and fun to be around when I’m on my medications and receiving regular therapy. I’m far less likely to subject others to my doom spirals and obsessive thoughts. I would get sick of talking about them, so I can only imagine how my captive audience felt.

Sure, there’s more I could be doing, but at least I have a pretty solid foundation under me now. I’m hoping to continue to build on it in time.

I find it funny how almost everything Louis says in interviews is getting linked to Harry by larries. No matter what they always try to find a connection. But when it comes to certain things like Louis saying he despise greedy people in the industry somehow Harry doesn’t exist. Or they of course think he’s blaming Jeff💀 Louis yesterday said for third time this year that there’s too much greed in the industry and that although after the last time he mentioned this harries were coming after him bc even they realized the shade and now he just repeated it again and y’all choose to ignore it bc it doesn’t make fit in the narrative.

I mean, Louis has also done things recently to link him to Harry and Larry. So... what is the truth?
