Not that he'd ever say it straight out.

(Or, Bucky follows his therapist’s advice to cultivate friendship, Sam makes him work for it, and by the time he’s sure they’re friends, Bucky has an entirely new problem on his hands.)
((LOVE))
Home (ao3) - stinkykingcharles G, 7k
Summary: To watch someone act completely in love with you one second, then the next moment, they look at you as if you don’t exist to them. “You weren't complaining last night,” came the rumble of Bucky's voice and Sam suddenly half wished he'd let him get turned into a pancake under that truck wheel.
“I thought we agreed not to talk about that?” he muttered, struggling to sit up.

Hey, uhhh
TFATWS AU of episode 3 where when Sam yells "I can't run in these heels!" Bucky just picks him up and carries him so he can still sprint full speed.
I do think it's cute that Bucky slows down for him but ya know they are being shot at and speed is more important than politeness.
Also I think it would be funny.

Waiting For Forever Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky x reader, Sam x platonic!reader
Summary: You met Bucky for a brief second at Stark Expo back in 1943. Little did you know you would run into him again as you assist Peggy Carter with Captain America. There was just something about the sadness in Bucky’s eyes that night that captured your soul, and he was all you could think about. You have a secret though. You aren’t exactly who he thinks you are.
Warnings: mentions of torture, cursing, mentions of potential human trafficking,  other dark themes, 18+. MINORS DNI. (If there are any warnings I missed for this one, please let me know).
Word Count: 7068
A/N: This is my thoughts on what happens to reader During The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: Episode Three (roughly). It is not 100% accurate, but I wanted to put a little twist to it. This gives you a glimpse at how the reader and Bucky are balancing work life and keeping their relationship some what professional. It is kind of a long one, but there was a lot of detail I wanted to add. All mistakes are mine. TFATWS SPOILERS!!!!!
Enjoy!
It was back to Germany for us I guess. I really didn’t like any of this one bit. I hated that Bucky eve had the thought of going and talking to this guy alone. It made me fear the worst for him. The absolute worst.
“Bucky, I don’t like this plan one bit.” I walked over, sitting next to him on the plane.
“I’ll be fine, trust me.”
“I do trust you. It’s Zemo I don’t trust.”
“I know, doll. I can handle this though. He’s the best lead we have though. He’s our one shot at figuring out where to find information on these flag smashers.”
“I really wish he wasn’t.”
“Me too, but he is. We have to talk to him one way or another.”
“I want to go with you. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Period, end of story.” I wasn’t debating this with him. If he said no, he wasn’t going in either.
“No, it’s dangerous.”
“Which is exactly why you shouldn’t go in there alone. He doesn’t know me. He has never seen my face before. I’m more of an in the shadows person when it came to S.H.I.E.L.D., and when it comes to the Avengers. So, I’m going in there with you.”
“Something tells me you’re not going to stop until I say yes, are you?”
“You know me too well.”
“That makes two of us.”
We finally landed at the airport in Berlin. We got in the car and headed straight for the high security prison. Sam and Bucky walked a little ahead of me, holding a conversation I could care less about as I thought about what could possibly happen in there. None of which were good.
“He’s just down that corridor.” The guard said pointing before leaving us be.
“I’m going in alone.”
“No you’re not.” Sam protested.
“You both are avengers. He has beef with you.”
“Well you two haven’t exactly frolicked through flowers.” Sam fought back.
“He’ll be more inclined to talk to me, so just let me handle it.”
“And what about our little discussion on the plane, hm?”
“Sorry, doll. I have to do this alone.”
“So that’s what we’ve come to? Going back on your word? Is this how it’s going to be?”
“Y/n, just drop it.” Sam said, putting his hand on my shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” Bucky apologized as he walked towards Zemo’s cell.
I was pissed off and irritated. I had no words for what just happened. All I felt was numb, and a little betrayed, but if that was his choice, then fine. I couldn’t change his mind even if I really wanted to. It had been made up way before I began to push. He wanted to go in alone. I didn’t understand why, Zemo caused him so much pain and trauma. So much so, that Bucky felt it was best for him to go back on ice till he got his mind straightened out.
I paced the hall for what seemed like forever waiting for Bucky to come back out. I honestly didn’t expect my Bucky to walk out. I expect the winter soldier to greet us. Thankfully that wasn’t the outcome. Bucky told us to follow him, and he would tell us all about the conversation he had with Zemo.
“So? You gonna tell us, or lead us blindly somewhere, and finally reveal you’re the winter soldier, and kill us?”
“You have little faith in me don't you Y/n.”
“Well, James, had you not gone back on your word, I wouldn’t have to assume such things.”
“First off, I never said yes. I just stated that you weren’t going to stop till I said yes. Second, ouch. No need for first names here.”
“You used mine instead of my pet name.”
“That’s different. Thirdly, he did use the words…”
“I knew it! I told you this would happen, did I not?”
“Let me finish. I didn’t react to them. Those days are over Y/n.”
“How can I be so sure, huh?”
“Bucky, just tell us what you and Zemo talked about so we can get this over with?”
“Fine. He asked me to help him break out.”
“You’re joking right? This is a fucking joke right?”
“Y/n, doll. Please don’t over react.”
“Don’t over react Bucky? Are you serious? This guy remembered the words to activate the winter soldier, and you’re telling me not to over react?”
“We are not breaking Zemo out of jail. I’ll agree with Y/n on this one.”
“You always agree with her.” Bucky stated.
We walked around this warehouse Bucky led us to, and looked around. I had no idea what we were looking for, Bucky and Sam sure seemed to. Bucky finally found the light switch and flipped it on.
“There are 8 super soldiers out there on the loose. If anyone knows anything about this, he does.”
“He tore the Avengers apart, he blew up the UN and framed you for it. He killed King T’Chaka. You think the Wakandans forgot about that. That’s rhetorical, they haven’t.” Sam fought back.
“Here’s a hypothetical. Can I walk you through a hypothetical?”
“Bucky? What the hell did you do?” I snapped.
“I-I didn’t do anything.”
“You’re lying.”
“The weakest point in any system isn't the software, the hardware, it's the meatware. Now, in this lockup, it's nine to one, prisoners to guards. And if two prisoners start fighting, then the protocol says four guards have to respond.”
“Now why would two prisoners randomly start fighting?” Sam inquired.
“Who knows? There could be many reasons, but the point is these things escalate.”
I rolled my eyes at what I was hearing. I already knew what Bucky had done. Sam could probably put the pieces together quickly, but I wanted to hear what else Bucky had to say for himself.
“Lockdown procedures would have to be initiated, and with all those bodies flying around left and right, wouldn't be hard to slip down a hallway or two. And if the fire alarm got tripped while the prisoners were being separated, someone could use the chaos to their advantage.” Bucky kept explaining.
“I don’t like how casual you’re being about this. This is unnatural. Are you...and where are we, man?” Sam stated, a very worried look painted across his face.
“You’re being too casual. May want to speak more hypothetical.” I snarked.
That’s when we heard a door creak open, and shut. We all stopped what we were doing, and looked in all directions. Then a shadow appeared against the plastic curtain, and that’s when Zemo walked in.
“Woah, woah, woah.” Sam began to freak out.
“No, listen.” Bucky tried to turn Sam’s attention back to him.
“You’ve really done it now Buck.”
“Not helping.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Yeah, Buck. Care to explain what the hell you just did!?” I was beyond pissed. I was livid.
“I didn’t want to tell you guys because I knew you would freak out.”
“I found out anyway, Buck. Remember, mind reader?” I said, pointing painfully hard to my head to exaggerate it to him.
“What did you do?”
“We need him Sam.”
“You’re going back to prison!” Sam yelled, pointing to Zemo.
“I agree, maybe he should go back right now.” I knew I wasn’t helping.
“If I may…” Zemo tried to speak.
“No!” Sam and Bucky both shouted, Bucky pointing at Zemo.
“Apologies..” Zemo whispered.
“When Steve refused to sign the Sokovia Accords, you backed him. You broke the law, and you stuck your neck out for me. I'm asking you to do it again.”
“I really think I'm invaluable…” Zemo tried to speak again.
“Shut up.” Sam stared, irritated.
Bucky looked between Sam and I with pleading eyes. God that boy made my knees weak when he gave that look. It was always so freaking hard to tell him no. No matter how badly I actually wanted to.
“Okay. If we do this, you don't make a move without our permission.” Sam stated, looking between Bucky and Zemo.
“Fair.”
“Okay, Zemo. Where do we start?” Sam asked, looking like he already regretted asking.
Zemo smirked, and led us out of that section of the warehouse. I stayed as close to Bucky as possible. Yeah I was pissed with what he did, but at the same time, I knew he was right. This was our only chance at finding the person who was making the super soldier serum, and putting an end to the flag smashers.
“You still angry?”
“Do you blame me?”
“Not really. At least you’re talking to me. I guess that means something.”
“I’m not so much angry as I am upset. You know how you said communication is key in a relationship?”
“Yeah?”
“Well, so is trust. I get you found a loophole in what you said, but if you lead me to believe something, you better hold up to it. If you break that, then I don’t know if I can trust anything you have ever said to me. Especially recently. Just keep that in mind Buck.”
“I’m really sorry, but I knew that you would try to stop if I broke Zemo out. I couldn’t have that blame be put on you. Someone has to go back home to Jamie.”
“You say that as if you don’t want to. I’m saying you don’t, but if I kept saying things like that, you would question me right?”
“I guess, but I want to. I do. Trust me. But if it came down to you or me going home, I would make you go home. You have been a constant thing in his life. I don’t know the first thing about taking care of a child. I would be an absolute wreck without you there...which is probably how you would feel too.”
I smiled, “see? Now you’re getting it.” I took his hand in mind, squeezing it gently.
“I love you, and I’m sorry I led you to believe you were going in there with me.”
“I love you too, Buck, and I forgive you.” I smiled wide at him.
“In here.” Zemo spoke up, opening a door for us.
We all walked in, our flashlights shining to guide us so we don’t trip over something. Zemo hit the lights, and all we saw were cars lined up. It was impressive, but also a little worrying. On one hand, Bucky was trying to keep me from going to prison. On the other, there was Zemo, who looked like he was trying to get us arrested.
“So our first move is grand theft auto?” Sam questioned, sounding just as worried as I felt.
“These are mine. Collected by family over the generations. I spent years hunting people HYDRA recruited to recreate the serum. Because once it's out there, someone can create an army of people... like the Avengers. I ended the Winter Soldier program once before. I have no intention to leave my work unfinished. To do this, we'll have to scale a ladder of lowlifes.” Zemo spoke, as he went through all the cars, stopping when he found a fur lined collar jacket.
“Well, join the party. We’ve already started.” Sam replied.
“First stop is a woman named Selby. Mid-level fence I still have a line on. From there, we climb.” Zemo said walking out of the warehouse.
We followed him out, and got in an awaiting car. Zemo got in the front seat while the three of us got in back. I sat in between Sam and Bucky hoping that would stop them from fighting. I leaned my head on Bucky’s shoulder, taking his hand in mine, drawing circles on the back of it with my other hand.
“So, James, who is the lovely lady that has graced us with her presence?”
“This is Y/n.”
“This is the infamous Y/n?”
“How do you know who I am?”
“There was talk that you got together with Stark after the blip, and created the memorial. Is that true?”
“Partially. Stark already had the idea. He felt personally responsible for what happened in Sokovia. He just needed someone else on board, someone who was even more persuasive than himself. It took a lot of convincing, but eventually he let me on board.”
“I see. You also were one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D., and one of the original superhumans, yet you didn’t join the Avengers till after Sokovia, why is that?”
“I was more of an office girl. I liked doing paperwork, and running things how I felt they should be done. I don’t usually work well with others, especially if I feel like my opinions aren’t going to be heard.”
“So why are you teaming up with these two?”
“Because I needed a vacation. Plus, I haven’t been on a mission in a while.”
“Is it true you have a son? Must be nice to be with someone who will watch your child while you go on missions.”
“I do have a son. His nanny is actually watching him for me.”
“So no father in the picture?”
“Oh no, father is definitely in the picture.”
“Oh. So where is he then?”
“Working.” I felt Bucky squeeze my hand. I couldn’t tell if he wanted me to just say it, or if he was wanting to wait. Or you know, not have Zemo know anything further about Jamie.
“Oh so the nanny just watches him during the day.” Zemo assumed.
“No. She’s watching him the entire time we’re gone.” Bucky spoke up.
“So is your husband away on business?”
“You could say that.” I stifled a giggle, wondering how Zemo has not put two and two together.
“Alright then.” Zemo went back to looking out the window. I wondered if I had confused him so much that he just didn’t think it was worth it anymore.
We got to the airport and were escorted to a private runway. There sat a very nice private jet. I had never seen something so luxurious before. It was very nice.
“So all this time you’ve been rich?” Sam questioned.
“I'm a Baron, Sam. My family was royalty until your friends destroyed my country.” Zemo stated, sounding bitter at the last part.
He walked up to an older gentleman standing at the stairs leading into the jet. They spoke Russian back and forth to each other. Saying how much they missed each other and how great it was that Zemo was back.
We all walked on the jet, and settled in. Once it was safe to move around, I walked over and sat on the arm of Bucky’s seat. I felt his hand rest on the small of my back. Even though sometimes he was afraid of his metal arm, he always had a gentle touch.
The older gentleman walked over to Zemo, and handed him a glass of champagne, “Apologies if that's a little warm, the fridge is out. But I will see if there is some good food in the galley.” Zemo and him talk back and forth in Sokovian before the older man speaks English again as they laugh, “it’s good to have you back sir.”
I mumble, “I ain’t touching any food served here…”
“You speak Sokovian?” Zemo asked, surprised.
“I speak over a dozen languages. Most of them being native languages of small countries like that.”
“Interesting,” Zemo directs his attention to Sam and Bucky after taking a sip of his champagne, “You don't know what it's like to be locked in a cell. Oh. That's right. You do.” Zemo snarked.
“Why don’t you tell us where we’re going?” Sam questioned.
Zemo’s attention was turned to something else now. A book, but he didn’t seem all too fascinated by the words on the page, but something else entirely, “I'm sorry. I was just fascinated by this. I don't know what to call it, but this part seems to be important. Who is Nakajima?”
Bucky practically launched himself from his seat to Zemo, grabbing him by the neck, “If you touch that again, I'll kill you.”
“I’m sorry.” Zemo apologized, handing Bucky the small notebook back.
Bucky walked back over to his seat, and sat back down. He faced away from me, but I knew he was upset. His thoughts told me that as well. I grabbed his hand to send a calming feeling, but he blocked it. I just sighed, and let his hand go.
“I understand that list of names. People you've wronged as the Winter Soldier.”
“Don’t push it.” Bucky practically growled.
“Buck.” I looked at him. He looked back at me and gave an apologetic look. I ran my fingers through his hair to calm him down more.
“I've seen that book. It was Steve's when he came out of the ice. I told him about Trouble Man. He wrote it in that book. Did you hear it? What'd you think?”
“I like ‘40s music so.”
“You didn’t like it?” Sam asked, sounding offended.
“I liked it.”
“It is a masterpiece, James. Complete. Comprehensive. It captures the African-American experience.” Zemo added in.
“He’s out of line, but he’s right. It’s great. Everybody loves Marvin Gaye.” Sam agreed.
“I like Marvin Gaye.” Bucky tried to defend.
“Steve adored Marvin Gaye.”
I saw Bucky’s face change. He became sad at the mention of his best friend. I knew Bucky missed him a lot. I missed him too. “You okay Buck?” He just gave a nod, so I just kept running my fingers through his hair.
“You must have really looked up to Steve. But I realized something when I met him. The danger with people like him, America's Super Soldiers, is that we put them on pedestals.”
“Watch your step, Zemo.” Sam warned, and I felt Bucky grow tense as he averted his gaze.
“They become symbols. Icons. And then we start to forget about their flaws. From there, cities fly, innocent people die. Movements are formed, wars are fought. You remember that, right? As a young soldier sent to Germany to stop a mad icon. Do we want to live in a world full of people like the Red Skull? That is why we are going to Madripoor.”
“What’s up with Madripoor? You guys talk about it like it’s Skull Island.” Sam asked, curiously.
“It's an island nation in the Indonesian archipelago.” I replied.
“It was a pirate sanctuary back in the 1800s.” Bucky added.
“It's kept its lawless ways. But we cannot exactly walk in as ourselves. James, you will have to become someone you claim is gone.”
“Absolutely not.” I protested.
“You seem to have a lot of opinions to share, Ms. Y/n.”
“No. I refuse.”
“Y/n, doll. It’ll be okay.” Bucky tried to reassure me.
“I can’t lose you. Not anymore.”
“You won't, I'll be careful.” I just nod as a reply.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t utterly terrified. But, if Bucky said he would be careful, I trusted him. The only person I didn’t trust was Zemo. I knew he still remembered the words to activate the winter soldier again. I saw he attempted to when Bucky went into his cell.
Bucky and Sam left to change after the older man from earlier brought them a change of clothes. I sat waiting, biting my nails. I was scared that Bucky would get back into that mentality, but wouldn’t be able to snap out. Or, maybe it would be way too easy for him to slip back into that mindset.
“You and James seem to be close.”
“You could say that.” I was looking elsewhere, almost like I was in a daze, still biting on my thumb nail.
“How long have you two known each other? It seems like a while from how you two act.” Zemo questioned further.
“Bucky and I have known each other since ‘43. We met at Stark Expo, the same night Steve was enlisted into the Super Soldier serum program. I worked closely with Dr. Erskine, he was my mentor, and a father figure to me. After Erskine died, I stayed with Steve and toured across the country to sell war bonds.”
“I see. You and Steve were close as well.”
“Yeah. Steve and I were best friends. He stood by me through a lot. He even gave me this locket, to make sure that Bucky was always close to my heart. I had never gotten over losing him after that cold winter day on the train. I only knew Bucky, actually knew him for almost two years at that point. He was the love of my life.”
“How did you take it when you found out he was the winter soldier?”
“I was actually okay. He was alive and that’s all I cared about. All the times I went chasing after the winter soldier, I thought I was chasing a ghost. A phantom who never wanted to be seen. I knew at that point I had to bring him back. Help him out of that mindset. And I did for a good few months. Then our mission to stop a HYDRA facility in Sokovia happened. I was forced to be on the run due to Ultron. I couldn’t have any contact with him whatsoever. That’s the part that killed me the most. I had to leave him stranded somewhere he didn’t recognize, and go on this mission that I didn’t even want to be a part of.”
“Did you go to Romania with James after you got back?”
“No. After I got back, Buck was long gone. Left no clues, nothing. He was a needle in a haystack now. So, I gave up. That’s when Steve and I got together. He was good to me, but I missed Bucky. What Steve and I had, we both knew it wasn’t going to last, but we tried.”
“So, after S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, you became an Avenger?”
“Yep. Steve thought it would be good for me. After Sokovia though, I wasn’t really much help with anything. I wasn’t even able to sleep through the night. I still can’t sometimes. When we found Bucky though, I was so happy. Then...then you reactivated the Winter Soldier, and I thought that was all gone.”
“It was nothing personal I just…”
“In a way though, I have you to thank. Had you not done that, we wouldn’t have gone to Wakanda. We wouldn’t have gotten a taste of the life we wanted. We wouldn’t have our son.” I gave a small smile as I thought about that. In a way that was true. We wouldn’t have Jamie had Zemo not done what he did.
“I think you should go get changed, doll.”
“Everything makes sense now. No wonder you and James are so close.”
“Yeah.” I get up and go change. The outfit that was picked for me was an all black leather long sleeve top and matching bottoms. It reminded me a lot of the outfits Nat used to wear. Granted hers were more forgiving than this.
I walked out once I was all dressed. When I did, all eyes were on me. It was a weird feeling, but the one I cared the most about looked like he couldn’t keep his eyes off me.
“Fits you perfectly. Don’t you think James?” Zemo asked, trying to get Bucky’s attention.
“She looks incredible.” He smiled.
We finally landed in Madripoor, and we started walking towards the city. Bucky stayed close to me, not entirely sure what Zemo had planned for me. We knew that Bucky was the winter soldier, but I had no idea what role Sam and I would play.
“We have to do something about this. I'm the only one who looks like a pimp.” Sam complained.
“Only an American would assume a fashion-forward Black man looks like a pimp. You look exactly like the man you're supposed to be playing. The sophisticated, charming African rake named Conrad Mack, aka the Smiling Tiger.” Zemo explained, handing Sam his phone.
“He even has a bad nickname,” Sam looks down at the picture of the real Smiling Tiger, “hell, he does look like me, though.”
“You smell this?” Zemo asked, all casual.
“Yeah, what is that? Acid?” Sam complained once more.
“Madripoor. No matter what happens, we have to stay in character. Our lives depend on it. There's no margin for error.”
“Easy for you to say, what about me? Unless I’m just supposed to wait here?”
“No. You are our hostage. HYDRA has been wanting to convert you for years. Selby gained interest once they did, and offered double the price for you.”
“Lovely. This is just fantastic.” I sarcastically remarked.
“No, you can’t use her like that.” Bucky protested.
“Zemo, can you ensure my safety?”
“I will do my best.”
“Then let’s do it.”
“No.”
“Bucky, this is my decision. If you get to go back to Winter Soldier, I can play hostage.” Bucky rolled his eyes at me, but he knew I was right, “if it comes down to it, I’ll save myself. I’ve done it before, I can do it again.”
“High Town's that way. Not a bad place if you wanna visit, but Low Town's the other way.”
“Let me guess. We don’t have any friends in High Town.”
A car pulls up, and we all get in. I again get between Bucky and Sam. This whole situation seemed very sketchy, but I just tried to stay as calm as possible. I knew I had to stay in character to keep the operation running as smoothly as possible.
“James, put these on Ms. Y/n. I suggest you don’t struggle, Y/n, these will shock you, and it’s not short shock either” Zemo warned, handing Bucky a pair of handcuffs.
“You sure about this?” Bucky asked, unsure of this himself.
“Yeah. I’ll be okay. Nothing I can’t handle.” I gave a reassuring smile.
“If anything goes wrong, and you don’t feel like you can handle this, I’ll pull you out. Send me a signal alright?”
“I will.” I smile again.
He kisses me before putting the cuffs on, “they’re on Zemo. You better make sure you don’t lose that key.”
“I won’t, and Ms. Y/n, keep the frightened look on your face, or one of hatred. Whatever works for you,” he turns to face forward, “here we are.”
We all get out of the car. Bucky grabs me a little rough for show, but he makes sure I’m okay before walking me inside.
“Ready to comply, Winter Soldier?” Zemo asked in Russian.
I heard whispers, in English and Russian, about Bucky. Most of them not believing he is the winter soldier, or they are so shocked. Maybe they were scared for their lives having heard his reputation.
“Hello, gentlemen. Wasn't expecting you, Smiling Tiger.” The bartender asked as we walked up.
“His plans changed. We have business to do with Selby.” Zemo responded.
“The usual?” The bartender asked, looking to Sam.
Sam nodded in response. The bartender began to prepare his usual which consisted of some sort of organ from a snake. It creeped me out, and I looked away, but I must have moved too suddenly, and the cuffs shocked me.
“Ah. Smiling Tiger, your favorite.”
The bartender handed Sam the drink, “I love these.” Sam responded
“Cheers, Conrad.” Zemo said, gulping his shot down.
Sam had a harder time doing so, but eventually he slugged it down. That’s when I saw a man walk over to Zemo.
“I got word from on high. You ain't welcome here.” The man spoke up.
“I have no business with the Power Broker, but if he insists, he can either come and talk to me…” Zemo answered, gesturing to Bucky.
“New haircut?” The man asked him.
“Or bring Selby for a chat.” Zemo finished.
“A power broker? Really?” Bucky questioned, not sounding very amused.
“Every kingdom needs its king. Let's just pray we stay under his radar.” Zemo answered.
“Do you know him?” Sam inquired.
“Only by reputation. In Madripoor he is judge, jury, and executioner.”
A man slowly started to make his way to us. I was scared, and still in pain from that shock. Bucky’s grip tightened on me a little. I didn’t know whether he was getting further into the mindset of the winter soldier, or if he was trying to protect me from all these people.
“Winter Soldier,” Zemo commanded in Russian, Bucky acknowledged him, “attack.”
Bucky let my arm go, but Zemo’s grip was there waiting. The man put his hand on Zemo’s shoulder, and Bucky immediately grabbed it. He walked the man back as he screamed in agony. This was a whole new side of Bucky I had never seen.
Bucky let the man go and swung his arm, knocking the guy down to the ground. Another man came at him, and went in for a punch. He elbowed the guy in the back, kneed him in the gut, and kicked him into another man who was coming to join the fight.
I wanted to help so badly, but I knew that if I tried, I would either get shocked, or I would blow our cover. But, more and more men kept coming at him. This was more of a fight the one last week should have been like, Bucky having the upper hand.
“Didn’t take much for him to fall back into form.” Zemo gave a quick smile. I wanted to punch that son of a bitch in the face so badly.
Bucky slammed the guy who initially started the fight onto the bar. That’s when I heard the guns locking as everyone loaded them up. Sam put his arm on Bucky, but Zemo stopped him, “stay in character or the whole bar turns on us,” he warned, “well done soldier.” Zemo praised in Russian.
“Selby will see you now.” The bartender spoke up.
“Thank you.” Zemo said, shoving me towards Bucky before walking off.
“You good?” Sam asked concerned.
Bucky just gave a nod before dragging me off with him to follow Zemo. I was breathing slightly heavy from all the things I felt from Bucky. I just stayed quiet though. I felt his grip tighten on my forearm a little bit more. He jerked my arm so I would move suddenly, feeling a shock wrack my body. I let out a scream through gritted teeth.
“Have to make it look real, doll.” Bucky said, noticing the tears rolling down my cheeks.
“You should know, Baron. People don't just come into my bar and make demands.” Selby spoke as we walked in.
“Not a demand, an offer” Zemo spoke, sitting down.
“A lot has changed since you were here last,” she looks between the four of us, “by the way, I thought you were rotting away in a German prison. How did you escape?”
“People like us always find a way, don't we? I'm sure you've already figured out what I'm here for.”
“You’re taller than I heard, Smiling Tiger.” She looks to Sam, who just stares. She gives a purring sound before turning back to Zemo, “what’s the offer?”
“Tell us what you know about the super soldier serum, And I will give you him, along with the code words to control him, of course.” Zemo walked over to Bucky, grabbing his chin.
“What about this lovely young thing?”
“Her you can have for nothing. Y/n Y/l/n is a gift for you.” Zemo yanks me from Bucky’s grip, tossing me to Selby.
“That wasn’t the deal!” I screamed, feeling the pain shoot up my arms again.
“Now that’s the Zemo I remember. I’m glad I decided not to kill you immediately. Yeah, you were right to come to me. Arrogant, but right. Take her to the auction room.” Selby ordered as two men grabbed my arms.
I tried to ping a signal to Bucky to help get me out, but he had me blocked out. I looked him in the eyes begging for him to help. The men had stopped though in the doorway waiting to get more instructions.
“The super-soldier serum is here in Madripoor. Dr. Wilfred Nagel is the man you wanna thank. Or... condemn, depending on what side of this you're on. The Power Broker had him working on the serum, but... things didn't go as planned.”
“Is Nagel still in Madripoor?”
“Oh. The bread crumbs you can have for free, but the bakery is gonna cost you, Baron. And before you get all cute, don't think you can find Nagel without me.”
Then we heard a phone vibrating. It was Sam’s phone. I was internally facepalming myself. I knew we were done for now.
“Answer it. On speaker. You take her to the back. I have a special place for her.” Selby ordered as the men drug me back.
Gunshots rang out, and they drug me back into the room where Sam, Zemo, and Bucky were. I had honestly prepared for the worst. Bucky saw us and came charging at the men who had a hold of me. He unlocked the cuffs that were on me, and drug me out of there. We ran as fast as we could out of there, but once we hit the streets we acted natural.
“What the hell happened back there?” I whispered to Bucky.
“Sarah called Sam. Blew our cover.”
“I see.”
Phones were pining, and everyone started to watch us. I grew worried that the calm of these loud streets would soon turn into chaos, and rain with gunfire. It wasn’t long before that came to fruition.
“This is not good.” Zemo muttered.
Gunfire started going off, and we all took off running.
“Shit!” Sam yelled.
“Come on!” Bucky grabbed my hand, and we started running.
“I can’t run in these heels.” Sam hollered as we kept running.
Men came at us from all directions. I clung to Bucky as I thought this was it. That’s when more gunshots rang out, but the men who were surrounding us were dropping. Zemo walked around the corner holding a gun that had yet to be fired.
“You seem to have a guardian angel.” Zemo sighed.
“Well this is too perfect,” a female echoed through the streets as we heard footsteps. A woman came out of the shadows, revealing her identity, “drop it Zemo.” She ordered, pointing her gun at him.
“Sharon?” Bucky asked.
She attempted to try and kill Zemo, but Sam stopped her and explained why we were here with him. She explained she was off the grid here all because of what happened 7 years ago when she helped Steve and Sam help Bucky.
“Listen, Sharon. We need your help.”
She chuckles, then sighs, “this isn’t over. I have a place in High Town. You’ll be safe there for a while.”
We followed her to High Town, and walked into a beautiful place. It was set up like an auction with costumes and different paintings. She explained how she has been getting by and has made a name for herself here. I didn’t blame her, the way she was living, she was making tons of money.
She led us upstairs to all get changed for her party. She explained how she was able to continue life here, and couldn’t get sent back to the states. Sam then apologized for everything, but she went off on how superheroes, and giving up the shield is all hypocrisy.
“By the way how is the new cap?” She asked.
“Don’t get me started.” Bucky groaned.
“Please, you buy into all that stars and stripes bullshit. Before you were his pet psychopath, you were Mr. America, Cap’s best friend.”
“Wow she’s kind of awful now.”
“Not since this new cap called Steve a brother. Still makes me wanna punch the guy.”
“I also didn’t like the way his sidekick was talking to you either.” Bucky scolded.
“Nothing I couldn’t handle.”
We explained to Sharon how these Flag Smashers had taken the serum, and we didn’t know how many more were out there. She didn’t think it was a good idea to be meddling in this situation. We gave her the name of the man who may be behind making the serum.
She explained that Nagel worked for the power broker, which meant getting to him wouldn’t be easy. Sam promised if she helped us he would get her name cleared. She didn’t want to hold him to that. It was a big promise after all.
Sam explained that the government pardoned Bucky, and he could ensure the same thing for her. They ended up making a deal, if she helped us, Sam would get her name cleared. She shook on it and said she would get information for us.
“Lay low, blend in, and enjoy the party. Try to stay out of trouble. I'll see what I can find.” She walked off, and Bucky and I got up from our spot.
We walked down, and stayed together. He held my hand tight as we wandered around. The party scene wasn’t our cup of tea so we just laid low and people watched. We mingled a little, but I wasn’t a very social person to begin with.
“Guys, I found him.” Sharon said finding us grouped together,
We headed for the shipping dock where he was hiding his lab in a shipping container. Sharon gave us all ear pieces. Her and I decided to stay outside, and keep watch while the guys went to find Hagel.
“So, you and Bucky huh?”
“That obvious?”
“Last time I saw you two, you had just rekindled your relationship from the ‘40s. I’m glad to see someone has decided to stick around for him. He really could use it.”
“I’m glad he chose me to be that someone. It’s why we need to find Hagel, and put a stop to this once and for all. We have a life to get back to in the states. I don’t want to waste any more precious time.”
“I get that.”
Suddenly we heard men talking. We knew we were in trouble. We commed the guys to let them know we had company. We hid behind the containers hoping to keep our position a secret. Sharon found a piece of metal pipe and started attacking them.
I started to send some flying over the other side of the crates to maybe buy the guys more time, but we couldn’t hold them off for long. I just hoped we could hold them off long enough for the guys to get what they needed and get out of there.
I was shoved into a crate, and the guy attempted to kick me in the head, but I dodged it, and sent him flying. I saw Sharon was struggling as well, so I tried to help her the best I could. She looked at me and nodded. She was telling me to head to the guys. We needed to get out of there now. She cleared a path for us and we ran.
“Guys we are seriously out of time.” She stated running inside the lab.
Zemo shot Nagel before any of us could stop him. A missile was fired into the shipping container. Bucky helped Sharon and Sam up, and we ran out before the containers exploded. We started firing every which way hoping we would at least hit something, but it was hard to see through all the smoke and debris.
Slowly we started running out of amo. Bucky and Sam began to bicker about the other going the wrong way. Sharon tried to get them to stop, but it was no use. They weren’t going to stop. That’s when we heard an explosion, and saw Zemo taking on the rest of the guys blocking our path. We all ran for cover to try and find a way to escape. We found an empty shipping container and ran inside. Bucky fought off a couple more of the bounty hunters before Sam pulled him in.
Bucky smashed through the other side where we were greeted by Zemo in a fancy car. We got in as Sam tried to convince Sharon to come with us. She reminded Sam of the pardon he promised, and we headed back to the airport.
Sam called his buddy Torres to dig up anything he could about this Donya Madani that Karli had called Nagel about. Then the conversation moved to talking about the shield again. As it seems this was a recurring theme with these two.
“Look, Sam, you have to understand where Bucky is coming from. That shield is the last thing left of Steve that is tangible to him. Give him a break please?” I practically was begging at this point.
Sam’s phone rang again. Torres had found information on Madani. So, we were headed to Riga. Zemo said he had a place where we could go, and that was that. When we landed in Riga we headed to Zemo’s place. He was going on about Sokovia, and asking if we had visited the memorial.
Bucky got my attention, and pointed at the ground sneakily. I nodded, and we stopped walking as Zemo announced we had made it to his place.
“Y/n and I are gonna go on a walk.” Bucky announced.
“You two okay?”
“Yeah. Just want to explore a little. Get some fresh air.” I explained.
“See you guys in a bit.” Bucky and I turned around and started to walk. When we noticed Sam and Zemo had walked inside, he turned around and picked up the metal marble looking thing off the ground.
It had a bunch of symbols on it. Symbols we both recognized. Across the street we noticed another one sitting on the ledge of the wall. Bucky grabbed it, and we followed it up the alleyway.
“You dropped something.” He spoke, announcing our presence.
We walked a little further then stopped. We turned around seeing if she was going to sneak up behind us. Then we slowly turned around. Not caught off guard whatsoever.
“We were wondering when you were going to show up.” Bucky stated.
“I’m here for Zemo.”

Guys I just realized that we haven’t seen the shot from the trailer of bucky looking all sad at what we assume is a tv in a store window. He is absolutely definitely looking at news footage of him as the winter soldier in Madripoor.

Hi people, i do be seeing many posts talking about how sam/ anthony doesn't get as much recognition as bucky/ sebastian.
First thing i have to say is that buckys character has been there for 10 years, while sam has "only" been introduced 5 years ago. The development buckys character got is stretched on 4 diffrent medias (not counting infinity war and endgame bc what development lol) and sams on 2. So Sams time for character development is literally half of buckys.
Stay with me, i love them both, i just want to write about the topic a bit, kinda for myself.
The series... Has a weird tone i must say. I expected something lighter especially between sam and bucky. Like their bantering in CACW, but here it's more like they're constantly fighting, which is perfect for development but maaan, i loved their dynamic in civil war so much more. Maybe steve was like a buffer for them who stopped them when it got too serious?
I really hope the series will come around to show sams struggles more, like, his family/ financial struggles have been on hold for 2 eps now? And the focus was more on bucky, who had to relive his trauma and is doing.. okay somehow? Loved that sam is checking in on him even tho that they still have this unresolved conflict about the shield / principles the shield represents.
Of course we have to talk about the obvious racism where the cops stop them on the street. Sam is feeling attacked by the cops who immediately assume that he is bothering bucky. There's strong suppressed emotions because he has all the right to be angry at the cops, but if he lashes out the angry black man stereotype will be applied. And i have so much respect for sams ability to stay calm. Like in almost every situation. I think that the cop situation is just an example of why he is very calm and rational most of the time. Because he has to be.
And i wanna see him without that kind of calm restriction. I think that could add very much to his character, and people could relate better to him.
Bucky on the other hand is an open book with his emotions. He doesn't have to say much bc you can read it on his face. Because he doesn't have to restrict himself the same way sam has to.
Another thought: shipping them is a nono for me
Please, i you have any thoughts on this let me know, just keep it polite please
