Ashley Wilson was a certified all-star. She was the best striker in the league and had already made a splash by age 23 on the international stage. The only thing fiercer than her game was her competitive edge. She was known by her teammates, the league, even the public as an absolute diva — but her skill on the pitch spoke for itself.

When an expansion draft within the league left most soccer clubs high-and-dry for new recruits, team owners started looking for new and innovative ways to fill out their season's rosters. It was a nearby engineering lab — a longtime sponsor of Ashley's club — that approached the back-office with a radical idea:

Clone Ashley and let her play two positions at once.

There was a slew of objections from every corner of the league — including Ashley, who insisted she was one of a kind. But when the team crunched the numbers, even paying double of Ashley's already sky-high salary was worth what they'd make back in ticket sales. The public was eager to see this stunt in action. Ashley would have to make due — it was in her contract, after all.

She would be cloned before every game, then merged back together after the final whistle. That was it.

What followed was the spawn of Ashley's most bitter rivalry — a competition against the best player she'd ever encountered on the field: herself. And true to form, Ashley started to like what she saw. Maybe there was more to explore now that she finally had met her perfect match.
