The Alaskan Train Crash: Alaska.
It's just another average day at International Rescue.
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Artist!Virgil, Post season three, slight AU, Mentions of hospitals, Mentions of Blood, description of train crash, Light Angst Series: Part 1 of The Long Game Summary: It's just another average day at International Rescue.
Notes: We're getting into the thick of the action (for this part anyway)! Not a lot really happens,. Sorry it's a shorter chapter than the last, but I had to begrudgingly make it a separate chapter so the next one didn't seem so chunky. We'll call it a filler chapter.
Read it below or on AO3 here.
By the time Virgil and Jeff arrived, Scott and Brains had already taken seats in the sunken round area of the lounge. Alan and Gordon had long since put their game away and they too were now sitting. Worried faces filled the room. Hovering over the central table was a blue hologrammatic scheme of what looked to be a freight train. Beside it, hovered the image of John from Thunderbird Five. All eyes were fixed on them.
Jeff took his seat at his desk whilst Virgil joined Scott on one of the couches. “What’s going on, John?” Their father asked, voice full of authority. Some days it had felt like he’d never left.
“Derailment in the Northern Alaska region.” John replied. “A freight train crashed around an hour ago. Initial research showed it belonged to the GDF. I can’t get a reading of anything on board.”
“Crew?” Scott asked.
“Three, apparently. Initial scans I made after I received the call showed none, but the woman confirmed two unconscious alongside herself. She was…” John uncharacteristically trailed off.
“John?”
“Let’s just say that ‘distressed’ is a mild term for how she sounded. Whatever you guys do, I suggest you be as gentle as possible.”
“You can update us as we fly.” Scott said as stood from his seat. “Gordon, you go with Virgil. Alan, stay here with Brains. Try and see if you can find something in the schematics that could have warranted a crash. I’m sure the GDF will want to know where the fault lies.”
“I’ll try and get in contact with Casey. If she doesn’t already know about this, I have a feeling she’ll want to.” Jeff added.
“FAB.” Scott nodded toward his father as he pressed his back up against the wall, hands rising to hold the light fixtures. Jeff watched from behind his desk as the three boys launched into action.
Debris littered for miles. The devastation was worse in person than what the scans had shown. Scott had flown Thunderbird One at top speed to arrive as quickly as he could. Once he arrived, he performed a quick fly-by. Only then did the realisation of the extent of the crash sink in. With the whole thing buckled and broken, he was surprised that anyone had even survived the wreck. It looked a mess. Having plowed into solid mounds of snow that had been gathered on the sides of the tracks, he figured the train must have been going at some speed when it had derailed.
“Brains, what speed was this thing travelling at?” Scott asked when he’d opened up a comms link between himself, base and Thunderbird Two.
“It’s impossible to tell without d-data.” International Rescue’s engineer, one of the best in the world, replied hesitantly. Scott could practically hear the cogs of Brains’s brain working, trying to find a suitable answer with the data that had been presented. “This isn’t a vehicle I’m f-fam-familiar with.”
“The GDF rarely use freight trains to haul their stuff around.” Virgil added from his ship that was still flying to the danger zone. “Planes are much more convenient and efficient, not to mention safer.”
“So that begs the question as to what was so special about this stuff that warranted them going the old-fashioned route?” Scott mused, mostly to himself.
“That still doesn’t answer how the crash happened.” Gordon chimed in from the co-pilot’s seat of Two. “The GDF are sticklers when it comes to safety.”
“Maybe it was sabotage?” Alan suggested.
The word sabotage never sat well with Scott. Too often was that word linked with their arch-nemesis. One would have thought that after the stunt the Hood had pulled in their mission to retrieve their father from space, and his subsequent arrest, Scott shouldn’t have been so worried about him being a possible factor. However, the news Captain Wayne Rigby had broken to Kayo about The Hood’s breakout from prison a few months back meant that it was again possible for the The Hood to have been the cause. No-one knew how he’d managed to get out of such a high-security holding cell, and Rigby had taken the blow personally. It had taken Kayo weeks to convince him not to quit over it. Since then, the GDF had pulled out all the stops in trying to relocate the criminal, with no success. Despite Casey’s constant reassurance that they’d soon catch him again, the mere fact that The Hood was out there left Scott feeling weighed down. Thoughts over the possibility of him being involved were now swirling around his mind. It was instinct. He couldn’t help it.
No, that was no good. He had to adopt Brains’s logic; no evidence, no proof, no conclusion. Scott couldn’t allow himself to get distracted by possibilities. Right now, there was only one thing he knew for certain; there were people down there who needed his help. “I’m gonna to jetpack down, see if I can find our caller and take it from there when Virgil and Gordon arrive.”
“Be careful, Scott.” Jeff’s voice, Scott noticed, was laced with concern more than command. Perhaps Scott wasn’t the only one who was worrying over possible causes.
It took them almost an extra half an hour to reach the danger zone, but eventually the roar of Thunderbird Two’s engines echoed through the snowy gorge as it came into view over the wreckage. It hovered over the site, Virgil performing his own fly-by to assess the damage, before the ship came in to land next to her sister. The powerful VTOL engines were enough to make the ice on the mountains shake.
Scott’s voice came through the comms in a shaky laugh of his own. “Careful, Virgil. We don’t want to cause an avalanche too.”
“An avalanche?” The unfamiliar voice came from behind Scott on the comms. The woman, panicked and afraid, began to hyperventilate. “Please. Please! God, I don’t want to die here. Please, help me! Please!”
Gordon’s brows creased with worry as the woman’s pleas echoed through the cockpit of Two. “I take it you found our caller.”
The brothers in the green behemoth exchanged worried glances. John hadn’t been wrong about her being distressed.
“Remember what we said, Barbara.” Scott was clearly talking to the trapped woman now, his hologram that hovered over the instruments in Two showing him turned to his side. “Breathe in and breathe out. Try to stay calm.” Scott emulated the breathing with her for a few minutes, and only when he was convinced she was calm again, did he turn back to his brothers. “We need to get them out of her ASAP. Virgil, I need you and your heavy-lifting talents down here now.”
“I’m on my way.” Virgil unbuckled himself from the pilot’s seat. He turned to his co-pilot as he began his descent into the depths of his ship. “Gordon, stand by. We may need you if the snow does decide it wants to come down and join the party.”
“FAB.” Gordon replied, already assessing the virtual scans of the scene that John had sent down from Thunderbird Five. They were all in for a long night.

War of Shadow Realm ~ Origins of the Ink Demon Chapter 4 Pt.2 ~
"Back on the Space Colony ARK..."
[Space Junk Road - Mahito Yokota]
Ashley : You know, Penny. Back in my early as a detective, I always imagined that me and Kimial used to look at the stars and they were many of them. Countless lights across the universe that shines so bright. I wonder we would watch the stars together.
Penny Crygor : That's right. As a scientist, I looked at the many stars from the cosmos and then there were shooting stars I wished for, come to think of it, we do come to the same level before as we all know it.
Ashley : I bid you a gratitude of my ways, thinking I'm into boys and girls like you all the time,
Penny Crygor : You just wanted to say that in a fairly manner, let me tell me something. Do you believe that stars are connected as one that make a constellation?
Ashley : Oh yes. There is one thing that connects one star and the star, each stars that has each of their names, and one has a special meaning to them. Polaris, known as the north star. It has always part of one constellation that what people didn't know, Ursa minor, commonly known as the Little Dipper.
Penny Crygor : Wow I guess that you can say that Big Dipper and Polaris reminds of one place that I've known about, it's called Alaska. Say, why don't we return to earth and look at the stars as well?
Kimial Diehl : Jacqueline, now that you have my attention, did you really think that I feel like that heart wouldn't be torn to pieces? I'm no different than any girl that I wanted to be me, but I'm a witch that works for the forve . I'm no human warrior of justice or anything, I'm not the Meister that I wanted to be. I'm only a girl that cares anything but my people. I wasn't really into boys, I was...I was coming clean and just wanted to say that I'm really into girls. Nobody understands to me that why was I even interested in boys like this?
Jacqueline O'Lantern Dupre : . ....I understand that, Kimial. The thing is...that I was never into boys, and I was totally not even hetero. I feel like that I went alone in my hometown of Quebec, with my brother. I thought I was into guys like them, but I was mostly into girls, all the time. Sometimes that I may not know about them, but I had friends back home with me that knows about me. More importantly, it's wisely that you think I know alot about you. You being hero of your hometown, me being one, a hero of my hometown that I was once was before. I just wanted to be the same as you. I'm no weapon, I'm no tool to the devil. I'm only human that does not concern about my actions for that the bad things. I just wanted to save lives.
Kimial Diehl : [her face blushes red] Jacqueline...I know how that feels.
Grim (Metal Sonic) : [looking out the window, with his arms folded] Demon Vibe...your days of ruling the Shadow Realm will be over, once we defeat the grandson of the Kusakabe which you have been controlling. The only reason that the gods of Mobius gave me the opportunity of being the mobian death God that lived in Sonic's world since ancient times. But that Shinigami faker, Shotaro. The dokeshi who thought himself as Shinigami himself, the devil's man-made son. Soon, Death Weapon Meister Academy and his entire city will nothing be a pile of ashes in space, once Neo Metal plans on destroying it.
Ashley : As much were in the space colony without any food or water, there's nothing much out there in the cold reaches of space. It's best that we all survive here while there are signs of life. (Hears footsteps approaching) Hey, do you hear that?
Kimial Diehl : What, Ash?
Ashley : Someone's coming.
[Tension - TAI-HEY]
Penny Crygor : I bet it's enemy movements tracking down on the colony's map. But there's one person that arrived here. You sure it's not Death Weapon Meister Academy spies or one of Shinra's?
Ashley : Whatever it is. This could be an ambush by the assassin.
Penny Crygor : An Assassin?
Ashley : It's the perpetrator. We need to prepare an ambush to encounter the enemy at once. Be prepared!
Grim (Metal Sonic) : Roger.
Kimial Diehl : I hope this one's going in the bag.
Jacqueline O'Lantern Dupre : Come on out, you righteous son of b*tch. I dare you to come.
(Door opens automatically)
Ashley : Now!
[DBZ SFX : SURPRISE!]
Ashley : Alright, freeze! This Majo Detective Ashley! Put your hands up where I can see them!
Orbulon : Woah! Woah! Ashley, Penny, friends! simmer down! I'm not going to hurt you or anything!
*Bamboo Bonk*
Ashley : Huh? Wait a sec...
*BOING*
[Event : Team Chaotix - Jun Senoue]
Penny Crygor : What's Orbulon doing here in the Space Colony ARK?
Ashley : Orbulon, you called?
Orbulon : I just wanted to get the distress call from you guys, but you had some trouble with the service. So I had the crew and the others join on the ride to this abandoned space station.
Kat & Ana : What's up, Ashley!
9-Volt : We heard that you disappeared on that space station!
18-Volt : It's everywhere on the news!
Mona : My guess is concerning that you are actually a detective and no one believed it? Guess you used to be a hero like wario does before you came to the company.
Master Mantis : Ashley, a once known detective and great asset to the Super Mario Universe.
Ashley : You have my word, old man. I get your point tho.
Young Cricket : Ms Ashley. [In Ashley's Visio, Cricket is dressed as a prince] Are you okay, my dear?
Ashley : I...I...I'm fine! You sure not hurt or anything?
Young Cricket : No, not at all.
Wario : Where have you been, Ashley? We've been worried about you and everyone was waitingn
Ashley : Mr. Wario! You arrived to the space colony as well?
Wario : Of course, girly! We all made it safely and we got inside to weird space station that was abandoned 50 years ago. Luckily, the soul losers of soul world are not smart that were on a space colony that is way over the planet! Not to mention to they took Orbulon's space ship, but we were Carried by this woman that knows abouts stars and galaxies. It's a Princess, she's new to the super Mario Universe.
Ashley : Princess that knows about stars, what is that Peach, daisy, Zelda? Or that princess who was turned into a cat that kissed you in the end of wario land 4?
Kimial Diehl : But I do know someone who's new. Mario said that a princess that knows about the stars when Bowser wanted to rule galaxies and conquer. Where he took his son to space.
Ashley : Then, who could that be?
[Comet Obversatory 3 - Koji Kondo]
??? : That is correct, Ashley. That would be definitely me by the way. And it's not just that took the
(Luma appears in front of Ashley)
Ashley : Yikes!
Penny Crygor : A luma? You wouldn't mean that must be...
(Rosalina appears teleporting)
Wario : Oh yeah, I forgot something to introduce you to the super Mario Universe. Warioware, meet Rosalina, protagonist of Super Mario Galaxy. AKA princess of the stars.
Rosalina : Well, quite certainly. I heard that the school from that fictional manga that was teleported into space. I believe that a robot used such power to bring the school and the city itself outside the planet. Hope there were any survivors on that school. You must be, Ashley the witch, and...
Kimial Diehl : I'm Kimial Diehl, Ashley's partner in law. You must be the one that Mario knew about since he first met.
Rosalina : Correct. I've bet you two heard about the stars as well, do you?
Penny Crygor : Of course! I've found out where that shooting star that floats into space, that would be you, right!?
Rosalina : Of course, all of them are safe on the Comet Obversatory, the same place that orbited around Mario's world around 100 years ago.
Ashley : Hmm? Are you sure that everyone is on ship? That Obversatory that oribited in Mario World's for around 100 years? (Outside the colony is the Comet Obversatory) Woah. Guess it does looks like a space ship. You live there?
Rosalina : Actually, I only visit between Mario's world and the Obversatory. If you like to know much about the Obversatory, then come with me.
Ashley : Okay, sure. Lead the way.
Penny Crygor : This is very interesting.
Grim (Metal Sonic) : I do mind fly to the Obversatory, but seems not a bad place to me. Time to check out that place. (Rosalina walks off as the group walks after her)

Dancing Boxes
As you likely know, we’ve been relocating.
I’m still taken aback when someone asks for my address and I can no longer say Cuprite Trail, Flagstaff, Arizona. Now I have to say my new locale: Tiffany Lane, Hamilton, Montana. From the southern border to the northern one, from the Colorado Plateau to the Bitterroot Valley, from the land of Coronado to the land of Lewis and Clark.
By June 7 the big fun had started, dancing boxes, an empty garage, and then sylvan green. . Boxes, the legos of packing, loading, unloading, and arranging, were purchased. A slow track started playing in my head, Christian McBride on a string bass, insistent but not strident.
We stacked, piled, and boxed. We sought quotes from  commercial moving companies: first $16K, then down to $14K after a schedule change (both assuming we did the packing). I saw that a  26 foot truck could be rented from Penske for $3K. We filed the reservation, thinking that skated past the cost challenge.
We continued packing. Piles of stuff and of boxes rose. Hours, days, several weeks. It seemed like we were supporting Home Depot’s cash flow. As the boxes closed and the garage filled, a sense of soft eviction joined with bursts of losing something we needed, “where are the leashes? …packed” “damn. Our artifacts and life spaces, our histories, our relationships were being slowly disappeared right under our noses.
The boxes were organized, the packing done. This blissful feeling was illusory because then help appeared. There were three teams in our unstable scrum.
First came the hired help, Firemen Movers, a local group run by firemen, using various friends and younger relatives, all energetic all unrelenting, all strong like bulls. They stacked our stuff like I never thought possible like ants on a sugar pile.
Our stacked boxes were being disappeared, dancing from place to place in the Rubik’s Cube. Everything not nailed down went in (boxes, suitcases, tools, papers: Have you seen…? Many times). All moved into carefully built walls of randomized (any box with any other box).
Second, the family help, son Adam and granddaughter Joia from Alaska, along with Son Nathan and his children, Alielah, Twilla, and Micah from Arizona, arrived. They presumed they would be loading, until they saw just effective the kids were at arranging the perfect Rubik’s Cube slices. Then they grabbed other stuff to carry into the garage, more stuff disappeared.
Third, Us. We helped where we could, but it seemed we were more often dazed by the noisy monsoon that was rolling over us as last minute discoveries were made.
I had guessed that we would need a big truck, 26 feet, for $3K. It was supposed to hold the contents of a 1300 sq ft house. Ours was 1800. Some big items were being left behind, so we should be OK, right? Sure, but just in case we’d upped the ante, I’d added a 6x12 trailer, another $350. Soon the big truck was filled. Then the trailer was filled. But some important stuff was still homeless.
Quickly I had to throw a Hail Mary and pick up a smaller truck, another $1150, praying that it would solve our problems. Whew.  All was in. We were still much less than half the cost, not yet counting fuel costs.
Then it became the family adventure. The road called, time to go. I imagined Aaron Copeland leading his Fanfare For The Common Man. The convoy began. A pickup with trailer, big truck, small truck, an SUV as a dog & cat taxi.
The first stop came quickly, the afternoon of the load-in.  In we went, 4 adults, 1 college student, 3 children, three dogs (cats stayed in the SUV). Two rooms, where to sleep, where to eat, when to stop. Repeat the next night.
Then it was time to land, the promised land. Time for cymbals and kettle drums. Where to land?
This was day 3 of our Don Quixote adventure. The new house wasn’t ready and there were no “ready” promises offered.  Oops. damn! Some welcome, no cymbals, no kettles drums.
It was time to adapt. Stuff was stuffed into the 3 garages next to the new house. More chaos, much too little organization. Our hope was that we’d use two for furniture, one for as many boxes, bins as possible. But, like the loading, the unloading became a further shuffling as everything, boxes, et al., danced again.
We also launched a frontal assault on the house provider, with bombast, with desperation, with some begging and attempted negotiation.
When would we really land? At day eight the walkthrough was finally scheduled. Good. Victory? Not really. Adam and Joia had gone home several days earlier. Nathan, Alielah, Twilla, and Micah left the day before the walkthrough.
Did the initial bass line play again? Not really. It became a bit of a dirge, with Jessie, me, Jessie’s daughter, Traci, and son-in-law, Joe, from near Hamilton, at the center of the lament. Long hours in the Bitterroot heat. Lift, open, carry, stow, repeat, “have you seen?”, repeat. We had labelled many of the containers, but didn’t know where they were in the garages. The dancing boxes were moving to their own rhythms.
Finally we did take a break from the dirge, thankfully, for a drive up Lost Horse Creek, our sylvan escape, sinking into the local luxuriance of green and the flowing water, lots of splashing and playing. Time has now passed. Boxes have re-introduced themselves. Furniture has been re-appeared. The silver, Zuni-inlayed money clip given to me by Sue Richardson at her trading post in Gallup NM, with my cash collected from Road Scholar tips is now back.  We started to celebrate our anniversary at 6 weeks and a day. It felt pretty dang special.
There have been hills to climb. These changes will get easier to accept, I hope (no matter how much easier it gets, no matter where my dwelling is, I will always be from the Colorado Plateau and the Southwest).
Thanks to all who’ve thrown themselves into our adventure.

Meeting “the parents” with Ted Logan would include~
Tumblr media
(Not my gif)(Requested by anonymous)
Meeting your parents~
- Ted really isn’t all that nervous when you first bring up that your parents would like to meet him. He doesn’t realize how crucial it is until he mentions it to Bill later that day and the blonde tells him that if they don’t like him, your relationship could be over. Although, whether that’s actually the case depends on your specific situation.
- Regardless, Ted is now officially nervous, and honestly, so are you. It’s both a big step in your relationship and just an awkward situation in general. But it has to be done, right?
- Depending on the type of people your parents are, they either invite him to have dinner with you or just want you to introduce him before one of your dates. Let’s go with the stereotypical dinner.
- Chances are, the two of you will rehearse before the actual first meeting. You really want him to make a good first impression so you keep warning him about different y/l/n family things and telling him what he could/should do.
- After you do so, you take a deep breath, look at him fondly and tell him earnestly to “be himself” because you love him for him and they should to. He brightens up immediately; even though he’s still nervous, and pulls you into a happy kiss.
- Finally, the day comes and he arrives at your house, fidgeting in the doorway as your father opens it.
- Teds a himbo but he also has a dad who threatens to send him to Alaska every other afternoon so he at least partially knows how to treat authoritative figures. He’ll still probably say something like “nice to meet you dude, er, mister dude. Sir.” while he shakes his hand though.
- He loosens up really quickly. He lowkey just forgets that he should be nervous and just acts like his usual lovable self: talking about his band and their potential gigs, earnestly saying sweet things about you, etc.
- Let’s hope that your parents like him and don’t try to interrogate or back him into a corner because he will not realize what they’re getting at. No, he doesn’t technically have a job. Yes, he’s in a band. He’s pretty good in school. Well he’s failing history. …Was he not supposed to mention that?
- Every now and again, you’ll give him a nudge and you’ll share a look and he’ll remember what you’re trying to hint at and quickly do or say whatever it is. Like bringing a certain topic or question up or helping your mother carry dishes, things like that.
- As long as your parents aren’t extremely strict and hellbent on you marrying a doctor or something, he’s probably going to make a fairly good first impression. It’s easy to see that he wholeheartedly loves you and if they think he has nothing else going for him, they’ll at least see that and let the two of you have your fun.
Meeting Teds Father~
- Ted is definitely more worried to introduce you to his own father; for obvious reasons, unless you’re exactly what his father would want in a future daughter-in-law. If there’s a chance he can really impress his father, he’s going to take it, but if not, he’s going to hold off for as long as he can.
- And because you’ve heard several stories about the man in question, you’re not too excited to meet him yourself either.
- But it has to be done, so you don a fairly conservative dress, put on a little makeup, and brush up on anything you think will impress the man. Being yourself doesn’t matter nearly as much as impressing him does; you can show him the real you little by little after he likes and approves of you.
- His father would insist on having you over for dinner and there's no way out of it. You’re going to be kept there for as long as possible either way so you might as well just agree to it.
- Every now and again during the dinner, Ted will interject with some sort of impressive fact about you: how you’re top of your class, your job, your hobbies, etc. If he isn’t doing that, he’s nervously rambling about you and your relationship until his father stops him.
- He’s definitely holding your hand under the table the entire time; probably for his own comfort more than anything.
- His father probably embarrasses him; whether purposefully or not, bringing up his track record, asking invasive questions, so on and so forth. You take it in stride with only a little discomfort but Ted is completely melting in his seat.
- Even though you know that it’s probably just him being polite in front of you, you’re still surprised to see that Mr. Logan isn’t actually all that terrible. Strict, scary, and old fashioned, sure, but he’s being; what you’d assume is, uncharacteristically polite to you; which throws Ted completely off.
- Ted would probably try to get you out of there as soon as possible; unless you’re really making a good impression. Although, if his father is being nice, he’d probably be too bewildered to even think about trying to leave.
- The night isn’t terrible. You’re nervous until the moment you get home; even if Mr. Logan seems to like you, but other than that, its fine. You survived and it seems your relationship will see the light of day as well.
- Depending on the type of person you are, his father either silently likes you, tolerates/accepts you, or doesn’t approve of you; though with how much you’ve probably rehearsed I doubt that that’s going to be the case.
- And there you have it. You’ve both officially made it out alive.

The aircraft door opened and you stepped out gratefully onto the air jetty. You weren’t scared of flying, you just didn’t like being cooped up in a flying tube for several hours on end. Up an escalator and along a short corridor and then you were able to see outside through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The sky was beginning to shade into the colours it would take on for dusk. It looked like it had been a nice day and you hoped the good weather would continue for your stay.
Karen had texted you while you were sitting on the plane at JFK, waiting for it to push back. Frank had told her that Micro had tracked your phone to the airport so boy, were you glad you’d turned off your old phone and switched to the new one when you did. She’d also told you that Billy had asked him to find out where you were headed, and your heart sank. You knew it wouldn’t take long for Micro’s vast and nerdy computer skills to find you but then again, London was a huge city and they’d have no idea whereabouts in it you’d gone to ground, thanks to your new ‘burner phone’.
You were feeling super-excited. This was beginning to feel like an action movie, with you on the run from the bad guys.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
“London??!!” Billy shouted, making Frank quickly move his phone away from his ear on the other end. “Yeah, London,” he replied.
Billy was back at his usual post by the window. “I mean... obviously I knew she was gonna fly somewhere but I thought it would the West coast, Miami, Seattle, Alaska... somewhere like that. But to go to a whole other continent....!!!!” Frank sighed, “Yeah, Bill, sounds like she’s really not keen to bump into you anytime soon.” “Yeah, thanks for remindin’ me.” “Bill, you brought this on yourself, buddy.” “I know!” yelled Billy, “An’ all I wanna do is get her back and make it up to her for the rest of my life, and all I know is she’s in London! Do you know how big that place is?” “Yeah, I do. And t’be honest... I dunno how you’re gonna even try to find her over there.”
There was a silence on the other end of the phone. “I mean...” Frank continued, “I’m guessin’ you are gonna go over there and try to find her, Bill?”
Billy’s shoulder twitched upwards briefly, and he stared intently out the window at the New York skyline.
“Yeah, Frankie... yeah, I damn well am.”
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
You’d left two of your big suitcases and the backpacks in a luggage storage facility at JFK, travelling with just the one suitcase and a large shoulder bag. You took the overground Heathrow Express to Paddington before negotiating a change onto the Tube to reach Tower Hill DLR station, boarding one of the driverless trains out to Canary Wharf. Settling back into your seat, feeling pretty proud of yourself for managing not to get hopelessly lost.
Your AirBnB apartment was in a part of the city called Docklands, beside the Thames on the Isle of Dogs. It was an area of shiny skyscraper offices and fancy apartment blocks built round the old docks, and your accommodation for the next two weeks was in one of those. You were suitably impressed when you got inside it... open plan, all trendy furniture and gleaming fittings. Big, big windows with views of the river and the tall buildings.
Your phone chimed and you saw a text from Karen on your notifications. Taking your suitcase and bag into the bedroom, you went back out to the main area and sat on the sofa to read it. Oh. Billy now knew you were in London, and had apparently booked a flight over - he’d be arriving tomorrow. Your heart rate sped up; Billy was a sniper, used to finding, stalking, watching his prey. But, you told yourself, he had no idea whereabouts in the city you were and no way of finding you.
Relax.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Billy stepped off the Heathrow Express, looking around for signs indicating where the taxi rank was. He’d been looking at the Tube map during the train journey. Nah, fuck that.
He was too wired to even think about getting to London Bridge on the Underground, or ‘Tube’ as he found out Londoners called it. His brain had been working overtime trying to figure out how the hell he was going to find her in a city the size of London. She’d stay central, surely - she wouldn’t head to the suburbs, he felt confident of that.
Getting into the first taxi in the queue, he drawled out, “The Shard, please.” The taxi driver nodded and pulled away from the station without saying anything. Thank fuck, thought Billy, I can’t be dealing with a talker right now. But just as the thought had left his head, the driver’s London accent said, “First time in London, guv?” Billy sighed, “No. No, it isn’t.” In fact it was, but he wasn’t about to tell the driver that. He’d only end up getting taken on the ‘scenic route’, double the time, double the price.
The driver grunted and turned up the radio... really annoying music could now be heard but Billy would take that over inane small talk any day. He looked out of the windows at the city streets and his mind went back to his mission. Mission impossible. Finally he saw the river and the taxi crossed a wide bridge before pulling up outside the lofty skyscraper that was The Shard. According to the blurb he’d read on some travel website it was the tallest in Western Europe, and while there were taller buildings in New York, the shape of this one made it look quite dramatic.
He paid and got out of the taxi with his expensive wheeled duffel bag, heading to the Shangri La entrance of The Shard and going inside. (It’s one of the priciest hotels in London - of course). Checked in at reception on the 35th floor, he was then whisked up to his room on the 52nd by another express lift. The windows were huge and the views spectacular.
Once again, he was gazing out of a window at a cityscape.
Where is she?
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Your first full day, you occupied yourself with getting to know the surrounding area, doing some grocery shopping and sitting on your large balcony, enjoying the view and relaxing with a glass of wine.
Every time a plane went overhead you wondered if Billy was on it - he was due here today. You shook yourself a little, you’d just have to stop thinking about it. He wouldn’t find you.
Your mind wandered unbidden to his recent behaviour. Knowing Billy was a player from day one, you’d still got involved with him. More fool you. Another old cliché.... you thought you’d be the one to change him. And you thought you had. You’d dated him for a few months, he seemed to have ditched his old hound-dog ways and when he’d asked you to move in with him, you’d agreed without thinking it over too deeply.
Now, looking back, it seems like you’d made a big mistake.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Micro had spent quite some time constructing a query table that he could run against accommodation reservations in London for her arrival day. She had no reason to book under another name and he’d just have to run with that assumption.
When Billy had come directly to him instead of going via Frank to ask that he try and track down her reservation, Micro had been too scared to refuse. Billy still really unsettled him - he always reminded him of a circling predator.
This query would take a while to run. He hit the go button and wandered off to work on another project while it tunnelled its way through layer upon layer of data.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Billy was pacing his swanky hotel room like a caged panther. He’d given up on the idea of roaming the streets of London trying to spot his target, that was just one dumbass idea. He’d never find her that way, much better to just wait on that geeky twat to come up with the answer with his internet wizardry.
He’d spoken to Frank earlier, who had nothing new to report. Billy wouldn’t allow himself to feel guilty at cutting him out of the loop on his recent ask to Micro. He wasn’t stupid enough to believe that Frank wouldn’t mention it to Karen. Much as he loved him like a brother, Frank was a big sap when it came to Karen and he knew he’d give in and tell her, probably sooner rather than later.
However Frank had told him that Madani had called earlier that day, wanting to know where Billy was and why she couldn’t get in touch with him. Billy had figured out that his girl had got herself a new phone, and he’d followed suit. Which is why Dinah hadn’t been able to reach him. “Whaddya tell her?”he’d asked. “That you were on an overseas operation and were incommunicado.” “Good,” nodded Billy, “....that takes care of that little problem for a while at least,” feeling a sense of relief.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Frank cut the call, a grim smile on his face. He hadn’t been completely straight with Billy, but it was for his own good. What he’d told Madani, however, had been the unadulterated gospel truth.
He’d said to her that Billy had hared off to Europe in pursuit of his live-in girlfriend, who’d suspected him of cheating on her and left him. He was absolutely determined to get her back.
He’d taken great satisfaction in the dead silence on the other end of the line, eventually punctuated by an angry snort and the call being abruptly ended.
That ‘little problem’ was hopefully taken care of for good.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Micro looked at his phone as it beeped at him, the notification saying that his query was complete. That had taken much longer than he thought it would. Now he could only hope it hadn’t returned too many matches as he’d thought it prudent to run it on surname only.
He pulled up the results table and was pleased to see that there were only a thousand or so, he’d feared there would be many more. He scrolled through the list and quickly pinpointed the one he’d been looking for.
With a deep sigh he picked up his phone, typed “Wood Wharf, Water St, London E14”, a building and apartment number into a new message, then hit send. It would be the early hours of the following morning in London, so he very much doubted that Billy would leap out of bed and head right over there.
He finished eating his supper, drank a beer and settled down to watch TV when his conscience started bothering him. Should he? He shivered when he thought about what Russo might do to him if he found out.
Popping another bottle of beer open, he sat and contemplated what he should do for quite a while. He suddenly picked up his phone, sending a quick text to Frank telling him about the whole situation and including the fact that Russo now had her London address.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
While you were lounging on your balcony, sipping your wine and watching the world go by, it suddenly occurred to you that this would be a great base to work out of for a while. You messaged the estate agent and extended your stay to one month, with an option to extend if required.
Then, on a whim, you booked a flight to Barcelona early the next morning from City Airport - it was really close to your apartment even if the flights were a bit more expensive. You’d been doing a little research into other destinations to explore, and having a base in London to travel to and from made you feel much more comfortable. The W Barcelona had caught your eye while you’d been browsing for accommodation and as you were only going for a few nights, you’d booked in there.
Feeling extremely pleased with yourself, you got up and went into your bedroom, looking for a folded-up smaller travel bag you knew you’d packed in your luggage. Finding it, you began to choose some outfits for your short trip, thinking what a joy it was that you could now leave your large suitcase here.
But damn, you were going to have to be up early tomorrow. Best to get an early night, you thought, immediately yawning.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Billy shot up in bed as his phone chimed with Micro’s text. When he read the information in the text, contrary to Micro’s belief he did leap out of bed and started pulling on his clothes (Micro had forgotten that this was an ex-Marine he was dealing with here).
He sat back down on the bed and googled the location. Oh okay, East London.... Docklands. Too far to walk and he didn’t think the Tube ran at this hour. Then he pulled up the Uber app and booked an immediate pick-up.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
Walking into the terminal building at City Airport, you were in the middle of a total yawning fit when a text came in. It was from Karen and you stopped, putting down your bag so you could read it.
Karen: Sorry to tell you this hon, but Billy went direct to Micro 🙄 and intimidated him into finding your London accom. Frank’s told him not to do that again no matter how much he’s shitting himself! Please take care of yourself 💋
You: Bastard 👿 thanks for the heads-up, I will do 😘
Picking your bags up again, you hurried over to one of the automated check-in machines to get your luggage tag.
Whoever had said ‘timing is everything’ had definitely got that right.
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
“Oi!!!” yelled an irate male voice. Billy turned his head to see a groggy-looking tousle-haired guy, obviously just having been woken up. “Keep the noise down!”
Billy said nothing, just gave the guy his death stare. His head quickly disappeared back inside his apartment.
After pressing the buttons of a few apartment numbers at the main entrance, someone had buzzed him in and he’d been pounding on her apartment door for the last five minutes. But there was no response, and he knew she wasn’t that heavy a sleeper.
He slid tiredly down onto the floor outside her door. Had she somehow known he was on his way over here? No.... how would she know that?
His head dropped down in momentary defeat and he ran his fingers through his hair, groaning.
She hadn’t moved on already, had she?
»»————————————-———- ⚜ ———————————-————-««
The plane lifted off the tarmac, and immediately you felt a huge sense of relief. You just weren’t ready to see Billy right now - you’d probably kill him if you did, ex-Marine or not.
Now you were off on your next adventure.

OKAY because people are nervous about voting by mail, I wanted to say, as a postal worker, that we are doing everything we can to get ballots through the system quickly. Everyone I know in the rank-and-file of the post office is letting ballots skip the line on processing and minimizing delays.
HOWEVER.
There are delays. There are going to be delays. If you’re voting by mail, PLEASE mail your ballot with at least two weeks to spare before the election.
BUT I HAVE GOOD NEWS.
MOST states let you TRACK YOUR BALLOT STATUS to make sure it’s counted. And in most states, if your ballot has not arrived by election day, you are free to vote in person.
MAIL YOUR BALLOTS to make sure you’re supporting the USPS. Then TRACK YOUR BALLOTS. If they don’t make it, VOTE IN PERSON. The polls are going to be very different this year with the number of people voting early and by mail. They won’t be that busy, I suspect.
Want to know where to track your ballot? I just did my best to hunt down every state’s info. Check below the cut!

Part 1 here! / Part 2 Here! / Part 3 here!
A/N: I already know some of y’all are going to be mad, it’s 2020 and twilight needs some diversity, don’t @ me.
* You’re not really sure how you got here
* “This ones done”
* Edward holds out the blood bag to you, carefully pulling out the needles from you beloved Deer, Hayden.
* “Ah, thank you.” You place it carefully along with the others, before lavishing Hayden with affection
* “You were so good today! You’re going to get extra carrots, yes you are!”
* You’re aware of Edwards gaze on you as he disinfects the injection point.
* “You know it’s illegal to have Deer as pets in Alaska don’t you?” The corner of his mouth is quirked in the smallest smirk you have ever seen, and you roll your eyes
* “Tanya got a permit, the official stance is they’re her deer, I just take care of them for some extra pocket money”
* Not that anyone would venture into the “siren house” to ask questions
* You knew people were probably wary of coming up to the estate, even the mail man looked dead scared when he left Irina’s Lululemon packages in the mailbox
* But you didn’t think the locals legit called the manse “The Siren House”
* Edward told you they used to call it “The Witch House” but then, upon seeing the Denali sisters, changed it to Siren
* Edward doesn’t say anything, just moves to take the filled blood bags up to the house
* Ever the gentleman
* You really thought Edward would show up once, figure out he couldn’t read your mind, and retreat into his own moody silence.
* You figured you would mostly be dealing with Carlisle, who would teach you how to draw blood from your heard of deers, and then you would be on your own.
* But instead it was Edward who volunteered to do it for you, Carlisle was busy with his day job after all.
* He shows up once a week, usually after school, and carefully extracts the blood
* Then he puts them inside the fridge and leaves
* You really don’t get what’s going on, if he hates you so much why even bother coming over in the first place
* You’re about to fall into your usual rhythm of handing him the blood bags, which he then puts in the fridge when he breaks your routine
* “Why-“ your head pops up from the small pile of blood bags and to him. He’s looking away, but then his gaze meets yours. “Why go through all this trouble for a few deer.”
* You grin and hand him a blood bag
* “Another vampire might say the same thing to you, why go through all the trouble for a few humans?”
* He flinches, and you laugh. He’s so unaware of himself it’s actually funny
* “For the record, I do it because they remind me of my (Dog/Cat/Pet).” He quirks an eyebrow at that.
* “Your pet?”
* You nod. You’re number one concern on arrival here had been whether your dog was okay, but sifting through your memories of this life, you realized your dog had passed away in the middle of high school.
* “When I look into their face, all I can think about is my dog” you shrug, it’s the same with bears and other animals too.
* “Also, it’s kinda disgusting to drink that blood straight out of the animal.”
* Draining the blood must have deducted something from the taste, you can’t imagine what that skunky revolting flavor would have been like if you were drinking straight from the animal.
* Edward laughs. It’s the first time he’s laughed around you, pearly white canines in full view, the skin at the corner of his eyes folds
* It’s cute, very boyish. You get what Bella was talking about now
* “You get used to it after a while” he shrugs
* You shake your head, no one should ever have to drink that crap
* “Here, try some of my blood” you say it like you’re offering him some cookies you made. You pick up one of the bags, still warm, and he quirks an eyebrow
* This isn’t the first time you’ve offered, usually he declines and rushes to leave
* One time it looked like he might say yes, but then he noticed Tanya and excused himself.
* He accepts the bag, holding it up with one hand
* “Do you pour it in a mug?”
* And so you and Edward sip your blood-Capri-suns in the kitchen that’s only now started to be used
* You sit in the counter cross legged, while he leans against the adjacent counter. Both of you silently sipping your meals.
* “This is really good” he finally says, his blood bag almost empty.
* “Who’d you have? I’ve been trying to add different veggies to their meal to see if it brings out a different flavour profile.”
* He had Henrietta, who you had been giving more citrus too. Partially for flavour, and partially because she’s your favourite
* “It kind of tastes like...fruit punch” Edward recalls after a prolonged minute.
* He seems so nostalgic, you wonder how long it’s been since he’s had human food
* “I think genetics have something to do with the flavour too, the breed from this region all seem to have a fruity aftertaste”
* “I’m partial to deer since they don’t have a strong game taste aftertaste.”
* “Yes! That part is the worst, it’s like eating a skunk” You scowl and he laughs again.
* You know he doesn’t belong to you, he’s Bella’s, in a few years she’ll be all he thinks or cares about.
* But maybe the two of you can be friends until then.
* All at once the moments broken, Edward stands a bit straighter, the smile on his face gone.
* You turn to look behind you to see Carmen.
* Her head is tilted to the side, a smile tugging on her lips
* “You both look like you’re having fun.”
* After that the conversation is pleasant, but it definitely stutters until Edward eventually leaves.
* “I think he likes you” You’re reading a book by the fire, the gentle heat is nice and it sets the mood.
* “What?”
* Carmen’s grinning
* “The Cullen boy is interested in you.”
* You just shake your head. You doubt it, Edwards only got a one track mind for one person. And it’s not you
* “It would be nice if we could be friends though, I don’t really know many other people my physical age.”
* Carmen stops mid-stitch on her embroidery hoop
* “Is that something you want? Because the Cullen’s have other’s your a-“
* “I don’t need you to set up play dates for me Carmen”
* “Understood”
* Edward comes by regularly, to help you with your animals. You’re both always under the (discrete) supervision of one of your guardians (excluding Tanya of course.)
* And with each visit you learn a little more about him
* You find out that right now he’s masquerading as a senior in high school, he’s considering going to college for veterinary sciences
* “Why veterinary sciences?” You wonder if he’s about to poach your best deer and start his own blood business when he shrugs
* “It’s one of the few degrees I don’t have”
* You’re drinking blood-Capri-suns out on the porch, he’s still in his school clothes, including a very puffy jacket
* “What were you going to do?” Your raise an eyebrow and he elaborates “before you turned, what were you plans for the future.”
* “I was on my graduation trip, I was going to college in the fall”
* You got accepted into your safety school with a generous scholarship.
* Edward doesn’t press any further. But you can tell that he wants too.
* Many nights go by, you experiment with you animals diets, have supervised hang-outs with Edward, you meet Carlisle every so often who basically gives you therapy and helps you control your emotions
* Life is good
* But your growing complacency with the situation is starting to bother you
* You haven’t forgotten about Alec and Jane who are still fighting so hard to survive, or the countless others who would prefer this way of life if they only knew
* You know the minute you start being content is the minute the world wins
* So every night -or really every so often, you’ve lost all perception of time, the nights in Alaska are totally fucked and these heathens don’t even have a damn clock. Your only really sign of time is the mail man dropping off amazon packages- you sit and dream
* You think about giving back to the community, about saving your friends, and about dethroning fucking Aro
* You’re only at the beginning now, there’s still so much work to do, but it’s a start
* You hear a noise and your eyes open
* If you had a beating heart it would stutter when it saw Edward standing beside your bed, your hand moves on it’s own through reflex, clutching your heart
* Under the circumstances you would expect someone else to laugh, but Edward just looks confused
* “Are you...sleeping?”
* “I like to pretend, it’s a nice way to end the day” he raises an eyebrow at that
* “It’s 4 in the afternoon”
* “Well damn Edward, we don’t have any clocks in this house, how am I supposed to know what time it is.”
* He does laugh at that
* “Is it...nice?”
* “Yeah, it’s pretty relaxing, kills some time too.” Noticing the curious look on his face, you ask:
* “Do you want to try?” You pat the space on the bed beside you.
* You’re fully expecting for Edward with his old fashioned virtues to deny your suggestion. So you’re surprised that after several long seconds of silence, and a rather pained look, he adheres to your request and lies next to you on your bed.
* It’s a king size bed, so he’s at least three Great Danes away from you, but the closeness still surprises you.
* “What do I do now?” He says, eyes closed.
* “Daydream, or fantasise I guess, about things that happened in your day, or things you wish happened, places you want to go and memories you wish you could relive”
* “What do you usually dream about?” He asks, eyes open now
* “I think about Jane,” the answer is automatic, and you regret it as soon as the words come out. But Edward’s expression doesn’t change so you continue. “I think about my deers and my family too.” Most of the time you’re just thinking about what animal you want to excitement with next tbh
* “And sometimes I think about you.”
* And how glad you are to have a friend
* Edward doesn’t say anything for a long time, and for a second you hope he hasn’t misunderstood your words, you know he’ll never feel that way about you. All of those romantic feelings are saved for Bella
* “Would you like to come to my house sometime?” The questions throws you off, and your expression illicit’s a laugh from him. “Emmett and Esme are dying to meet the newborn from the Denali coven”
* That’s probably true for Esme, you’re pretty sure Emmett just wants to have some physical match with the “Volturi-reject”
* “That sounds fun, sure.”
* Maybe they have a clock in their house you can steal
* Edward shows up the next day in his shiny white Volvo to pick you up.
* On either side of you on the front porch are Carmen and Kate with their most fierce expressions (and behind them is Eleazer who just looks like he’s along for the ride)
* “Where are you going?” Kate asks
* “Our home on the other side of the mountain, you’ve been there before” Edwards got a small smile curling in his lips, and an eyebrow raised.
* “What will you do?” Carmen asks
* “My family’s having a board game night, I think we’re playing monopoly”
* “What time will you bring them home?” Kate intervenes, man they’re not even pretending to be polite
* “Well it’s not a school night-“ Seeing his joke isn’t going to land, he rethinks his words midway
* “Whenever they tell me to.”
* You’re half expecting to get a curfew, even though this household seems to operate without the concept of time, when Eleazer interjects
* “Well be safe, and have a good time.” He slides a backpack up your shoulders. “I packed you some blood bags in case you get hungry, Henrietta’s since I know that’s your favourite.”
* He’s the only one waving as you get into Edward’s car
* The view as you drive is breath taking, the snow covered mountains, abs crisp green trees
* Edward laughs beside you, at your awestruck expression no doubt
* “You don’t get out much do you?”
* You have your nose practically pressed to the glass
* “Not at all.”
* The Cullen’s home is reminiscent of the one from the movies. All light, with glass everywhere. It’s like a aurora, all wavy with no true shape
* “Welcome to our home (Y/N)” Carlisle greats you first, and behind him is... Esme
* She’s not at all like the books or the movie
* She’s definitely not white, you can’t tell exactly what race, but she’s definitely a POC.
* Her caramel cheekbones seem even more prominent when she offers you a smile.
* “It’s so nice to finally meet you, I’m Esme.”
* For some reason her being a POC, makes you feel more comfortable around her.
* Maybe you will ask her to draw up those plans for a proper barn.
* Edward stifles a laugh behind you, and you raise an eyebrow.
* “Emmett is dying to meet you upstairs.”
* You follow Edward up the stairs, finally meeting the family that spawned four books and a movie franchise.
* None of them look like they’re actor counterparts
* For one Emmett is black. And also really handsome, he’s got this Chadwick Boseman look alike thing going on and you’re down for it (RIP)
* Rosalie looks basically the way she was described in the books, all blonde hair and angel faced, but she’s the only one
* Alice is definitely Asian, she kinda looks like Lana Condor
* Jasper.... is ambiguously brown, but it still makes you let out a sigh of relief when you remember he was a Major in the CONFEDERATE army.
* More to the story than someone who was blatantly racist and supported slavery.
* They’re all beautiful, and they terrify you. You’re not exactly sure why, but something primal in you tells you to run away as fast as you can.
* But Edward lightly brushed the small of your back, pushing you forward. Right into the lions den.
* “Hello, I’m Rosalie”
* Looks like they picked her to be their spokesperson, all glittering smiles and flawless cheekbones. She extends her hand, and you lightly grasp it.
* “It’s nice to meet you.”
* It’s surreal to think how you know almost everything about this girl, while you two are virtually strangers
* Jasper introduces himself next, all smiles and quiet gentlemanly behavior.
* You’re not really sure what to expect with Alice, from what you know this girl has seen every future you could possibly have.
* Who knows what she saw
* But when she stands she hugs you
* “It’s good to see you!”
* “Alice, you haven’t introduced yourself”
* “Oh, right. I’m Alice”
* Emmett claps you on the back like you’re an old friend.
* “So, I heard you used to hang out with the sadist twins in the Volturi”
* You can practically feel the tension in the air, even Edward winces
* “They’re not so bad” really, what did anyone expect when they were in that environment
* Emmett grins
* “That’s bad ass”
* The rest of the night passes in a blur. The cullen’s game of monopoly includes some monstrous version where they put 8 different themed boards together and play in teams (You’re obviously on Edward and Alice’s team)
* They also have some sort of structure where they put four hotels together and called it a mega-hotel
* The whole thing blows up when Emmett accused Alice and Edward of using their powers to cheat
* “What do you want me to do, I can’t turn it off when I want Emmett, trust me I would especially when you and-“
* “Oh shut up Emmett, like we haven’t noticed Rosalie has an awful lot of $500 bills” Jasper interjects
* “It’s because you always pay me rent in small change!” She screams
* “Now-“ Carlisle tried to interject but Alice stands up
* “That’s a lie! I saw you steal from the bank several times when Esme wasn’t looking” Alice screams
* It goes on like this until Carlisle Declares the game over, and shoos everyone away.
* “Sorry, I would say it’s usually not like this, but I would be lying” Edward grins and you shrug
* “It was pretty fun and... entertaining in its own way” Edward beams at you, and once again, you definitely feel the dazzling effect Bella described in the movies
* “Should I... take you home now?” You can tell he doesn’t want to take you back yet, and if you’re being honest you don’t want to go back either
* The Cullen’s house has so much light, and you can see the stars so clearly here
* And if you’re being honest things seem to be way more entertaining here
* Edward takes you to a nook which houses a grand piano
* You’re fingers instinctively roam over the keys.
* “Do you play?”
* “Just a bit”
* You’re not the one who knew how to play, not really. But now this body is yours. You’ve thought about asking Carmen for a Piano, you’re sure they would love something that adds to the gothic feel of the mansion, but always cast it aside.
* You’re busy enough with your research.
* “Play me something” Edward grins.
* Alec had said the same thing to you when you were first taken by the Volturi, at the time your mind had raced wondering which piece would impress him the most. Which would aide in your survival.
* But looking at Edward now, you know that it’s not the same situation.
* He really does want you to play whatever your heart desires
* So you play “Love like you”, accompanied by your quiet voice reciting the lyrics
* At some point Edward sits beside you, playing in a deeper key, adding another layer of depth to your performance
* Wordlessly, afterwards he plays a piece of his own, Claire de Lune. Which you know is a remarkably hard piece.
* Still halfway you chime in, your super human fingers keeping up with him with ease
* And so it goes on like this, you play a modern song, waiting for him to catch up and he does the same with a classic
* Like a never ending game of cat and mouse
* It stops abruptly when Edward is in the middle of “moonlight sonata” when Alice clears her throat from behind you.
* “I hate to disturb,” there’s a teasing grin arched on her face. “But if you don’t drop them off, Carmen and Tanya are going to come over personally to retrieve them-“
* You see Edward wince, no doubt reviving Alice’s vision through his ability
* “And I don’t think anyone wants that.”
* You nod, moving to grab your backpack when you overhear Alice say-
* “You never let me play like that with you”
* Edward let’s out some sort of noise akin to a scoff
* “Where did you learn those songs?” He asks when you’re on the road
* Well you can’t tell him they’re from artists who aren’t known yet
* “Personal compositions” you murmur, and Edward grins his dazzling grin
* You talk about nothing but music until you pull into the familiar circle driveway of the manse
* Right when you’re about to thank him for a fun time, he gently stops you with a fleeting touch to your shoulder.
* “I’m graduating next month,” he hands you an envelope which you assume has his graduation card. “I was wondering if you would like to come to the ceremony.”
* You hold the card with both hands stunned, he’s already graduating high school?
* That means only 4 more years until he moves to Forks, and another two until he meets Bella
* And you realize that while time is frozen for both of you until the end of the universe, you’re the only one who isn’t moving forward
* “Yeah, I’d love that!”
* You try your best to smile, but your sure it comes off looking strange
* You don’t talk to anyone, heading straight for your bedroom
* What’s next for you?

Dream SMP Recap (February 7/2021) - End of Week
I hope you all are caught up on your Tom Gravy hotdog-eating Olympics lore.
Also, the server’s first attempt at a prison break...? I guess??
---
VOD LINKS:
HBomb94
Foolish Gamers
Tubbo
Ranboo
Nihachu
GeorgeNotFound
Captain Puffy
---
- HBomb explores the SMP mainland and looks at the L’manburg Crater, wondering if he should build a house there. He runs a poll and it’s 50/50.
- H runs back through the Nether. Sam asked him if he wanted to visit Dream at some point and H said yes.
- He discusses the possibilities of future catmaid bits. Would Sam let him be a prison maid?
- Foolish asks H for 16452 sandstone. Unfortunately, HBomb doesn’t have it.
- H gets filled in on all the SMP lore and figures out the ultimate truth:
Sapnap wrote the books in the Inbetween.
Sapnap can time travel.
Sapnap is the answer.
- H speaks with Foolish, and H mentions the gold bar labelled “HBomb’s maid service” that he got from Fundy...
- Foolish says he does need some sandstone...
- Dream logs on the server. He dies in lava and leaves.
- H tells Foolish the story of how he killed Technoblade 27 times, and asks if he knows about the obstacle course.
- H and Foolish meet near the Community House and Foolish is...surprised...by HBomb’s skin.
- Foolish brings HBomb to the Temple of Undying.
- Then they go to Snowchester.
- Later, Foolish continues work on the Temple.
- Tubbo speaks with Scott Smajor.
- Ranboo goes mining while Tubbo makes a sandwich.
- Niki shows off her secret city. It’s been coming along well!
- Tubbo is just trying to get Ranboo DMCA’d at this point.
- Niki starts working on building the secret city some more.
- Niki’s character still deals with night terrors and isn’t sure what to feel about Wilbur. She sleeps in her own chamber and writes in a diary about what she’s going through.
- George has woken up!
- He comes onto the SMP after speedrunning and wonders what to do. He needs new supplies, because he has absolutely nothing now.
- He asks if Sapnap has his stuff, but Sapnap says no. He gave it all to Karl. George calls Karl. Karl can’t give his stuff back at the moment.
- Dream and Quackity fill him in on how Tom Brady got a home run and won a gold medal in the Olympics World Cup.
It begins.
-
--- THE FOOTBALL LORE ---
-
Gronk, Greg, and Tony Romo all pulled their weight as well. One got bronze in the Grand Prix. They also talk about how Tom Gravy’s been doing. There’s also Tony Gravy, who is Tom Gravy’s brother, but they mean to talk about Tony Romo and how many laps he finished.
The football stans took over the trending tab with their profile pics.
- Bad joins the call and they start filling him in on the Olympics. Bad mentions the Superb Owl.
- Tony Romo is the 11th time gold medalist of the Grand Prix who is going to retire soon to become an announcer for the Bikini Bottom competition.
- Tom Gravy never dies. Well, he said that he might in a couple years, but by then he’ll have won several more medals. His goal is to eat 10,000 hot dogs by 2022. He burns off calories by running around the Grand Prix track. Tony Romo gives him all the advice.
- They have different maps for Tony Romo and Tom Gravy, one of which is in Russia. Change of scenery.
- Tony O’Brown got one of the goals and that was it, but the real dagger was by Patrick, who threw an interception.
Tony Romo ran a red light in Alaska, having won the Grand Prix with 21 laps, and got a mugshot for it, but got a medal for Sexiest Mugshot so it wasn’t too bad. His goal is 22.
- They also have a pizza restaurant called Tom and Tony.
- Wait, Patrick got the mugshot gold medal for running the intersection. Tony Romo went to Russia.
- Gronk faked his retirement, then lied and showed up at the Olympics, won anyway and got a gold medal. He was pretending to train but he never actually trained. He took different videos with different shirts to pretend that he was training on different days.
- Gronk wanted it to be surprising when he won. Him and Tom Gravy were very good friends. They met before the first Olympics while training together.
- George asks if there’s a Wiki to learn all this lore from. Dream says there is, but it’s on the Dark Web.
- Though Patrick had the sexiest mugshot, there were plenty of others that weren’t so sexy.
- Tom Gravy is now trending.
- George has just been mining throughout all of this.
- Karl joins the conversation. Tony Romo retired because of the money but also because he had a kid, according to Quackity.
- Taylor Swift named something after the number of hotdogs Tom Gravy had to eat daily last year, which was 22. They call him “The American Patriot” for all the hotdogs he eats, but this year he was more of a Pirate.
- During the Olympics recess, Tom Gravy was sponsored by Hard Mikes.
- Greg is in his flop area at the moment. He was a Patrick fan, actually, but then the whole incident happened with the intersection.
- Out of the last 20 Olympics, Tom Gravy’s won 7 and been to 10. This is the Hotdog-Eating Olympics, though, not the world Olympics. The Hotdog-Eating Olympics happens at the rate that the Grand Prix happens divided by 2.
- There was a cheating scandal where he was accused of inflating his stomach. “Inflate-Gate.”
- Tom Gravy ate 200 hotdogs in 12 seconds, which is called a “Scarf Ace” in the contest.
-
--- THE FOOTBALL LORE IS OVER ---
-
- Foolish gives George Netherite.
- Ponk attempts to kill George. George escapes to the Holy Land.
- Bad points out that because the enforcer of the Holy Land’s neutrality rules is in the prison, they’re free to kill Ponk. Dream says no, they’ll get punished if they do. He also asks why there’s a turtle in the Holy Land, and asks to delete it.
Callahan, Bad and Foolish all come join them in Church Prime.
- Ponk steals Oogway and a fistfight breaks out. Captain Puffy arrives.
- George tricks Puffy into killing him in Church Prime. Dream says that George’s stream was conveniently blacked out for some reason. They start talking about pictures.
- Callahan kills George in the Holy Land. Dream says it was blacked out again.
- Ponk kills George in the Holy Land. Dream saw that one and Ponk falls out of the world.
- Dream finally reveals the truth behind the old Bedwars clip after several months of mystery.
(It was porn)
- One thing leads to another, Dream drops some glass water bottles and sings “Mad World” in the background after being rejected by George for Valentine’s Day.
- They start leaking Rat pics.
- George is preoccupied and doesn’t notice as Ponk boxes him in with obsidian. Puffy arrives to help him out.
- Foolish shows George his summer house and gives him supplies.
- Quackity tries to insist that he’s not a competitive hotdog eater, but everyone already knows the truth.
- Karl comes online and gives George the Netherite.
- The chaos continues as they pass it back and forth. Callahan joins in.
- George goes to the prison and tries to break in. GEORGE LORE STREAM?? NOT CLICKBAIT??
- He finds a very secret and important area.
- (It’s a lightswitch)
- George starts breaking a blackstone block in the wall to rescue Dream.
- Dream tells George to keep trying to break him out, saying it’s been long enough. Karl says that, in his very canonical opinion, it has not, in fact, been long enough yet.
- Dream warns George that he actually has to hurry, in case Awesam logs on.
- George sits there mining for a good few minutes. One block between Dream and freedom! Callahan comes to watch.
- He finally breaks the block!
...
...
- Aaaand behind it is obsidian.
- George immediately ends stream.
---
Later, Awesam places the single block back...
...And threatens to take all of George’s canon lives if he ever messes with the prison again.

Another (not so) stupid thought of the day
Teen Hotch who’d love to be on the track and field team, the swimming team, the baseball team. He knows that he is good enough to get through the try-outs. The track and field coach who once had him seen running through the woods behind his house had even asked him to join, “Forget the try-outs Aaron, we really could use a runner like yourself”.
But he can’t. As much as he wants to, he just can’t. Team sports means changing with the others, taking showers together. Everyone would see the bruises and scars he’s covered in. New ones every week, old ones that are fading, some that will become a roadmap only few will ever see and even fewer will be able to read.
Throughout Highschool he’s excused from PE. The family doctor - an old friend of his dad - has written a note saying Aaron’s asthma is too bad. Everyone knows that it’s a lie, he’s never had an asthma attack in his life and could outrun most of the other students, even the older ones. They also know better than to ask after one of their own suddenly found themself transferred to Alaska. Mrs Hotchner had confessed to her husband that Aaron’s history teacher had asked some strange questions, like why Aaron almost always wore long sleeves. 6 weeks later, the transfer papers had arrived.
Haley was the first to see the roadmap. Aaron even taught her how to read it. Gideon had seen it too, he didn’t need a map legend to understand it though. Others, like JJ or Reid, caught glimpses but never got the full picture.
Foyet added an ugly relief map only his doctors and Jessica had seen in all its gory detail. That was until she had to leave for a conference and in no uncertain terms told Hotch that he would have to ask one of his colleagues to come over and help him change the dressings.
When he heard the knocking later that evening, he opened the door to the only person he knew who could handle the task.

The States and 2P America
So the 2ps get to the 1p world after making a truce with their counterparts and escaping their collapsing world where they're the only survivors. They then proceed to live with their 1ps in a crazy roommate sort-of situation. The only problem is that when Allen gets to Alfred's house it's this huge mansion and one of the states opens the door making him very confused as he never had states of his own and his idiotic 1p is the father of 50 kids!
"What the *beep* Porkchop?! Since do you have fifty little brats runnin’ around?!"
Alfred gives him a full rundown on finding/raising the states and then proceeds to draft him into babysitting! At first, Allen tried to ignore them but then faces the painful realization that leaving 50 states alone is never a good idea. After finally rounding up everyone he could find and freeing the thirteen (most responsible being Delaware and Virginia) from being trapped in the barn by their younger siblings, he does a headcount.
Allen: Okay one, two, three.....45. We're missing five! Where's Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, and New Mexico?
Random state raises their hand: I think Nevada's in Vegas gambling again. He goes there a lot to triple his allowance!
Another state: I remember Texas said something about rodeos and bull riding all the way to Dallas. Also, Alaska and Hawaii left a note saying something about hanging out with New Mexico and Tony in Roswell!
Allen: But we're in D.C.! How did they get all the way over there in 3 hours?! *States shrug while Allen looks close to screaming into the void* Okay, everyone into the bus! We're going to get your siblings!
Cue cross country road-trip like the hangover where, after hours of getting lost in Disney Land, Delaware’s nagging about being the oldest and most mature much to Massachusetts chagrin because he’s clearly got better colleges, getting into a dance contest in Maine, keeping Arizona from getting stuck in the Grand Canyon for the hundredth time, Wisconsin participating in a cheese eating contest, Maine cooking seafood, Georgia making 30 peach cobblers, Colorado making a giant igloo, Washington and Oregon's hippie phases making a return, playing hockey in Minnesota, fishing Michigan out of the great lakes, New Jersey getting stalked by the Jersey Devil who’s like that stray cat that keeps following you around, keeping New York from starting a fight at Yankee’s game, gator wrestling in the Florida everglades, getting dressed for Mardi Gras in Lousianna, getting lost in Iowa’s biggest corn maze, the Dakota twins almost killing the Carolinas for trying to graffiti Mt. Rushmore (there’s a bit of a twin rivalry), avoiding the secret service less they get caught and ratted out to Alfred, seeing Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and trying to keep Alabama from sticking his head in it on a dare, crossing the Mississippi, running from rodeo clowns that Tennessee angered after he picked a fight with them for insulting his country music, finally picking up Texas with his new Rodeo bull-riding championship belt and tying him up with his own lasso, various misadventures, including recuing Idaho from an accidental marriage, in Vegas that will stay in Vegas, finding/grounding Nevada from gambling after he almost lost 50 grand and Wyoming to a circus, they finally arrive in Roswell.
Allen, too tired to care at this point: Alright! Who's this Tony New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska said they we're with?
Maryland: He's Dad's cool alien friend from 1947. New Mexico likes hanging out with him in his spaceship playing pranks on Britain and the other nations!
Allen hardly believes her but is too tired to care at this point: A-Alien? Sure, why not?! Let’s just go get them! Maybe we’ll run into Nessie too!
Iowa whispering to Ohio: But isn’t Nessie in Scotland?
Ohio: *shrugs*
After falling into a series of booby traps a la Alaska, they finally track down Tony’s ship in Alaska and find the three playing video games with Tony. It finally registers in Allen’s mind that there’s a real freakin’ alien in front of him playing Mario Kart.
Allen: T-t-that’s an….
State: Yep!
Allen: And he’s playing video games….
States: Yep!
Allen, not able to handle this anymore: *faints*
After a not so long drive back to D.C. courtesy of New Jersey’s driving, Getting KFC in Kentucky for supper with vegan salad for Allen and irritating said state in the process, and almost forgetting Rhode Island, they finally make it bake to D.C. and settle Allen down on the couch, gathering around him to watch a Marvel marathon acting like the innocent little angels they’re not. They also duct tape California’s mouth shut and tie her up with Texas’ lasso because she wouldn’t stop complaining about watching her newest one instead. Alfred finally arrives home from a meeting in Berlin around the time they finish Doctor Strange and sees Allen crashed on the couch with the states around him.
Alfred: So did you have a good time with Uncle Allen?
States: We sure did!
Wisconsin bragging about his trophy made entirely of cheese: I’m the king of cheese once again!
Alfred: Great! Now it’s off to bed everyone!
States: Aww! But we wanted to stay up and play with Uncle Allen!
Alfred: No buts, you can play again tomorrow! Now off to bed!
The states start trudging up to their rooms with California finally being freed. Georgia putting a blanket over Allen, Hawaii putting a hibiscus print pillow under his head, and Maryland putting a note on the end table as they go out. Allen finally wakes up and Alfred, watching the rest of the marathon notices.
Alfred: You were awesome with them dude! I’m going to let you babysit from now on!
Allen: *Screams and faints again*
Alfred: Heh! He’s so excited! *Munches on popcorn*
The next morning Allen wakes up and reads the note: “Thanks for taking care of all of us today! We had a lot of fun, Uncle Allen! From the states. P.S. You were super cool playing baseball at Yankee stadium! Teach us sometime? Also, there's a salad for you in the fridge! :)"
He crumbles the note and puts it in his jacket trying not to break his tough-guy persona. But later when no one looking, he takes it out with a small smile and thinks these brats aren’t so bad after all.
Eventually, they grew on him and Allen comes to consider the all the states like his own secretly loving it when they call him Uncle Allen. They may be little gremlins but his gremlins and if you so much as touch one hair on their head you’ll get a face full of his nailed bat!
Just another day in the Jones’ household!
Meanwhile In Canada:
James is babysitting the provinces for Mathew and is currently in drill sergeant mode pacing in front of the nervous, with the exception of Quebec who's extremely excited, lined-up provinces. Kumajiro (cub) and Kuma (adult) are just chilling and watching them with whistles around their necks and cute little maple leaf hats courtesy of British Columbia.
James: All right, listen up! I’m going to teach you all how to rough it and survive out in the wilderness! Now, who knows how to start a fire?
All the provinces turn to stare at Manitoba.
Manitoba: Oh, come on! I set fire to Papa’s flannel shirt collection one time!
James: Okaaaaay ignoring that, everybody get into groups of two and I’ll assign jobs!
Nova Scotia raises her hand: But there’s thirteen of us!
James: Fine then, eenie meenie miny mo… *Points to Prince Edward Island* you! Prissy pants boy you're with me! We’re gathering firewood!
P.E.I. looking up from his mirror: Excuse me!? I’m not gonna get these designer clothes dirty picking up filthy wood!
James *facepalms*: Give me that! *Proceeds to chuck the mirror into the lake much to P.E.I’s horror and Ontario’s glee!*
(They don't get along because of P.E.I.’s arrogant personality and constant declaring himself in charge despite Ontario being the oldest and having the capital).
James: We’re out here to survive off the land which means no cell phones, no internet, and definitely NO BEAUTY PRODUCTS. NOW IS THAT CLEAR?!
Provinces: Sir, yes sir!
James being the big softie that he is but won't admit: Good! Now we meet back here by sunset and we’ll roast marshmallows!
Everyone hurries and gets on with their jobs with Alberta somehow ending up stuck in a tree and harassed by woodpeckers and Yukon and Saskatchewan being the most successful by communicating with/befriending a family of beavers that help them build a shelter. By the end of the day, James also feels a sense of fatherly protectiveness and pride over the provinces like Allen. he also secretly loves it when they call him Uncle James. Nunavut also manages to find bigfoot who helps gather food much to James’ shock!

The Right Path - Chapter 3
“Here’s the rundown: the Greek and Roman gods now live in the US,” Piper began. The three of them were sitting around the coffee table in the Mclean’s living room, munching on ambrosia and pretzels. Jason’s shoulder and chest were wrapped in bandages from the monster attack.
“They often have children with mortals, resulting in demigods like us who have special abilities. You’re one of them.”
“But there’s a lot more to it,” Jason interjected. “Monsters, for one. They hunt down demigods for fun.”
Piper shot him a look. Jason knew they didn’t want to scare Antonia away before she even found out who her godly parent was, but he didn’t want to lie to her, either. Thankfully, she didn’t seem fazed.
“That’s cool and all, but I’m not sure you have the right person,” Antonia replied, straightening her posture and meeting both of their eyes. “I was born in Venezuela. Do these gods make booty calls to other countries?”
“All the time, actually. Canada, Brazil, Italy, you name it. They get around,” Piper explained, a look of disgust on her face at the mention of their parents personal lives.
Antonia didn’t respond and leaned back on the couch, her face deep in thought.
Jason had been told that being introduced to the demigod world was a lot to take him. He’d never gone through that himself, but Piper and Leo told him plenty about what it felt like. He couldn’t imagine what Antonia must be thinking right now.
“There’s a lot more to say, too. But right now there may be more monsters on our tail and we need to get moving. Do you have anywhere you need to be tomorrow?” Jason asked.
“Track practice at 9. I throw javelin, like I mentioned earlier,” she responded.
Piper and Jason exchanged a look.
“Sorry, girlie, but I think that’s gonna have to wait,” Piper said apologetically.
“Um, no, it won’t. The district competition is next week. I’m not missing practice before that,” Antonia insisted.
Part of Jason felt sorry for having to steal her time, but he knew a district competition wouldn’t matter if she got killed by a monster before then.
“Listen: more monsters will come. We were lucky there was only one tonight, but next time it could be much worse. There’s a place we can go where monsters won’t be able to reach you, or at least they’ll train you to defend yourself if they do. You really have no other options,” Jason said. He only realized after it all came out just how much it sounded like a command being given to a legionnaire.
“Fine. I can do that,” Antonia responded curtly. Her insistence from before had disappeared. It was like she knew just how serious this was, and just how much her life was about to change.
. . .
They set out that night. Piper had been more on edge than usual since the run in with the monster and wanted to get to Camp Jupiter as soon as possible. Jason couldn’t blame her. That creature had come out of nowhere and managed to overpower him in seconds. Even better, he’d never seen anything like that before in his life. It was worrying him too.
Antonia picked up that something was wrong, even if she didn’t say it out loud. She has the acute senses that most demigods possess. She was so clearly a half-blood, but it pained Jason that he couldn’t for the life of him figure out who her godly parent may be.
She couldn’t be a big 3 kid, monsters would have found her sooner. She wasn’t the child of war god, her demeanor was much too calm for that.
Jason spent the entire drive interviewing Antonia, asking questions about her hobbies, strengths, and if she’d noticed any weird occurrences before. He found out nothing that pointed to any god he knew.
When they entered Camp Jupiter, Reyna was there waiting at the gates to meet them. Somehow she knew they were coming. She was pacing back and forth while crowds of legionnaires bustled around behind her. The scene made Jason even more worried.
“What’s been happening here?” was the first thing he said to the praetor once they were within earshot.
“Children of minor gods and goddesses have been showing up here all week in large numbers. We’re not sure what it means yet. I assume that’s who this is,” Reyna responded, looking at Antonia.
Normally Reyna’s formal and cold glare was enough to make anyone cower in fear, but Antonia held her eyes as if it was nothing. Antonia might not have noticed, but Jason could see Reyna approved of the girl. She’d made a good first impression.
“We’re assuming something bad will happen, right? Why else would the gods be claiming so many of their kids right now?” Piper spoke up.
Reyna nodded. “We’ve been preparing our defences, but there’s not much more we can do until we have more information.”
“Maybe one of the incoming demigods will know something,” Jason suggested. He wanted to ease Reyna’s worries as much as possible.
“Perhaps,” Reyna said, her eyes scanning their surroundings as if she expected something to jump out of the hills.
Antonia had been quiet since arriving, likely taking in everything around her, but now she spoke up with confidence. “The more bodies you have at your disposal, the more likely you are to win a battle. That’s what this is, isn’t it?”
No one told her she was wrong.
Jason hadn’t wanted to say it, but he had been thinking the same thing The Olympians wouldn’t care about the children of minor gods and goddesses dying by the masses. This was the draft for a war.
Suddenly Antonia let out a yelp. She grabbed her right forearm with her other hand and let out a few curse words. Piper rushed to her side, gently pulling her arm out of her grip so that the rest of them could see it.
The symbol of a scale was burned into Antonia’s forearm.
“A child of Nemesis,” Jason whispered in shock. Those were few and far between at Camp Jupiter. The last one was seen in the 80s, when the Legion’s eagle was lost in Alaska. They almost always meant bad things were coming.
Antonia looked at Jason, ready to ask a million questions.
“Welcome to the Legion, daughter of Nemesis,” Reyna said. “Let’s get you sorted out.”
AN: Sometimes Nemesis is given the symbol of a broken wheel, but I decided to go with her other symbol, the scale, for her Roman claiming. We also don’t know exactly how demigods are regularly claimed at Camp Jupiter, but I think them getting branded out of nowhere is on par for the Legion. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this piece- if you would like another chapter comment!

Headcanon for late night drives with Stanley Barber? 👉🏻👈🏻😌💖
Stanley sometimes finds it very hard to sleep, especially when his dad is home and he can hear the TV upstairs blasting the newest football game
His dad usually ends up passing out at around 1am, giving him the opportunity to sneak out through the back door
He’ll shoot you a text, alerting you of his arrival and seconds later you’d hear a tiny knock on your window
When you meet his gaze, a smile erupts on his face as you open the window to let him not gracefully climb in to your room and tackle you with a hug and a kiss
After some time cuddling in your bed and hearing him sigh and toss and turn, he’ll look over at you
“Wanna go to the tracks?” you roll your eyes, obviously saying yes as you throw on a sweatshirt over your tank top and sleep shorts, knowing the air will be nippy
You guys sneak down your steps, avoiding the creaky spots like pros, since you’ve snuck out so many times before
You hop into the passenger’s seat, reaching back to sift through the box of cassettes he keeps in the backseat
You pull out a Camping in Alaska cassette, putting it in the player on low volume as he watches your every move. You furrow your eyebrows at him, tilting your head
“Just the sheer beauty...” he gestures to you and mentions the streetlights making your skin have a yellow glow
“Yeah, yeah, stupid. Pay attention to the road” you place your hand on his thigh, tapping along to the song playing softly
He lifts up your hand and gives it a soft kiss, softly singing. His curls bounce as he quickly looks over at you, sending you a soft smile and another hand kiss
You guys get to the train tracks, and he rushes out and lays down on them, bending one leg and crossing the other over it. He does grabby hands until you lay in his arms, facing towards the sky
You guys sat in silence, the stars twinkling and giving a sense of calm
“We should do this more often” you snort, reaching back to gently lace your fingers through his hair
“We do this all the time, dummy” you turn in his arms, placing a soft kiss on his lips as his arms encircle your waist

❝ no, uh... actually, i just got here from... ❞ he’s smart enough to know that he probably shouldn’t be telling anyone he’s from the north pole. he instead says the first thing that comes to his mind. ❝ alaska. salmon... alaska, ❞ hopefully she’s not an expert at geography and believes nick that that’s a real place. hands flatten the red suit he wears, the eldest kringle putting on a warm grin. ❝ i don’t really... have anything else to wear. it’s kinda hot here, is there a place i could, um... get different clothes? ❞ preferably for free, especially since he doesn’t know how money works. ❝ if you just point me in the right direction, uh, i could... probably — find whatever i’m looking for, ❞

Yellow
Summary: It's the one year anniversary of her boyfriend's death and Hawaii I'd not doing too good
Tw: Death mention, blood mention
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
Hawaii left the store, shifting the bags in her hands. The neon sign cast a soft yellow glow on her. Just another boring night. She was visiting the mainland to see Alaska, who apparently couldn't go see her this week. She blamed it off the fed. Most things could be if you tried hard enough.
She was waiting for Alaska to come pick her up. He couldn't go with her cause of some meeting, that, from the texts and several photos including a few selfies she had received, was once again was going to shit.
Her eyes scanned the night sky as she grew impatient, until they fell on a familiar cluster of stars. Instantly her mood changed. Not quite sad, but not quiet happy. An empty bittersweet.
His favourite. They shone brightly tonight.
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
It was decidedly such a stupid thing to be sad over. She saw stars every night. But it was nearing the anniversary and once again every little thing was reminding her of him.
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called Yellow
And of course the memories had started their torturous loop. Running out to the beach as the sun set, tripping over sand, him tuning his guitar- a gift from the annoying cowboy one- and her singing along in Hawaiian as he finally started to play. Him laying in her lap, looking up at her like she was the most wonderful thing that the world.
Even the sweetest ones were too painful to bear, only serving for a reminder of the loss. She cherished them, but they had been forever tainted and sometimes she wished she could just forget most of it. Like she had of her "childhood".
So, then I took my turn
What a thing to've done
And it was all yellow
If only they hadn't been there, if only she hadn't insisted.
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
She pushed back the memories, not wanting to breakdown infront of the store, but they only pushed back harder.
It had been an unlikely romance, and yet it had worked so well.
Hawaii could distinctly remember when they had finally told people about their relationship. Another of money had been passed to Louisiana and Florida. Apparently most people bet on Alaska. Which fair, there was the childhood friends aspect to it, but he had never really thought of him like that.
Turn in to something beautiful
Her boyfriend had protested after the duo wouldn't split with him. He sulked, claiming it was "unfair" and "I had bet on it too!"
Do you know
You know I love you so
You know I love you so
He was always kind, always sweet. A proper gentleman. That was unless he wasn't being a little shit. She couldn't be mad at that, his sarcasm was hilarious at times. He was also really attached to this old coffee pot that barely worked and wouldn't say way. She still had it, not having the heart to throw it out.
I swam across
I jumped across for you
He had always said if something happened that he would do his best to make sure she wasn't hurt. She never doubted it for a second, and she was grateful.
What a thing to do
'Cause you were all yellow
If only she could've done the same for him.
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
A warm wind blew, cooling the tears on her cheek and she shut her eyes. It almost felt like it was him, holding her, instead of a breeze.
What a thing to do
And it was all yellow
With her eyes closed the memories could attack her more easily.
Her time with him, the time after, and the underlying track of wishing he hadn't been an idiot, or she'd moved faster, or that they didn't go there.
And then it was the worst ones, the ones she kept in their own special box, hoping to keep it closed as much as possible.
And your skin
The dock, her hand intertwined with his.
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Looking up to see his easy going smile, and then watching it morph into one of horror.
Turn in to something beautiful
The feeling of her body hitting the dirt, a gunshot, and a splash before she could even right herself.
Do you know
The thieves had run off. She didn't know why and she couldn't remember their faces. Her memory had decided to delete the only useful parts of the incident, tormenting her with everything else.
For you, I'd bleed myself dry
And then she was kneeling in the water, the waves lapping at their skin, watching the water go dark.
For you, I'd bleed myself dry
Everything else for the next few months had been a haze. She can't remember it actually happening but her memory did tell her she had been holding him in her arms when he bleed out, that he was dead before the medics had arrived, and she spent most of the funeral in the corner with Alaska. He had been buried on the mainland so she didn't even get to see his grave all that often.
It's true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
A car stopped infront of her, and her eyes flew open to take in the sight of Alaska wrapping her in a tight hug.
They stayed there for a while as he held her, before he spoke.
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
The words didn't even register at first but after a few minutes she realized he had asked if this was about him, and she nodded slowly.
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
"It's stupid but-"
"It's not stupid," He reassured her, his voice determined "it wasn't even that long ago"
"It's been a year Laskie"
"And? It really hurt you. Do you remember how long it took me to accept..." He trailed off, but she understood.
"Yeah..I know," She took a deep breath. It shook harder then she'd have liked. "Thank you, truly. I just..miss him."
A few more words had been exchanged before they got in the car. Mostly Alaska trying to cheer her up.
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do
As they pulled out of the parking lot, he spoke again. "Hey, maybe we could visit Georgia's grave? It could use some new flowers, the lower 48 have terrible choice."
She snorted, smiling sadly. "I bet, and yeah. I would love that."
