Saw ppl on Twitter doing this meme with Warriors and My Little Pony characters, so I did my own with Ginga!
Red: Akatora
Orange: Yukimura
Yellow: Hiro
Green: Smith (ghost)
Cyan: Weed
Blue: Blue
Purple: Purple Wolf
Magenta: Pink Dragon
[ID: A depiction of a color wheel with the colors red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple and magenta. Inside each of the colors a Ginga character with that color is drawn. In red we have a red Kai Ken with black brindle. He has a serious expression. In orange with have an orange Akita mix with white urajiro and scars across the right side of his face. He has a serious expression, too. The yellow character is a very pale and washed-out yellow Great Pyrenees with brownish ears and a missing eye. He has a challenging expression and is licking his chops. The green character is a black Spaniel with white Irish markings, however he is glowing green as he is a spirit. The cyan character is a blue brindle Akita mix with white urajiro. He has scars across the left side of his neck and the right side of his face. The next character is a blue-and-white husky with blue eyes and a torn ear. He has a scar across his right eye and an agitated expression. The purple character is a purplish gray-and-cream wolf with a snarling expression and green eyes without pupils. The final character is a pink wolf with long magenta hair similar to that of a human. He is in a howling pose. End ID.]

I love studying genetics and I’ve learned that northern breeds carry a gene pretty unique to them called northern domino, and Native American dogs and chihuahuas seem to carry the genes as well. It looks very similar to urajiro
Oh yes! It's not super common in chihuahuas but chihuahua people go gaga for it.

I finally started to work on a print for Cynosport today after doing some thumbnails the other week. My thought was to do a Wild West theme. It would kind of go with the piece I did for 2017 NADAC Championships that featured agility in space.
I just haven't been feeling it. Today I was playing in SketchUp to try and layout the background at least somewhat realistically for an agility course and get some help with perspective and all that. That's all the progress I've made with just over a month to the show.
Then I realized all the work is probably going to result in only a couple sales of $20 prints. Of course every piece is valuable experience and has potential to be used in a portfolio or sold forever as prints. That said, if I value this as a $300-$500 illustration, add on the cost of prints, a couple purchases won't cover the investment.
My NADAC Champs posters weren't wildly popular each year I did them. I think I sold more the first year than the second. The second I wasn't selling them in person. I just sold pre-orders online and shipped a few to the site to be sold by someone else.
I suspect commission orders are going to be the bulk of my "sales" at the show. I'm planning to offer gift certificates, which I also suspect will do well so close to the holidays.
Tumblr media
For kicks here is my SketchUp mock up with the photo I wanted to use as a base for the dog slapped on top of it, lol. I was planning to modify the dog to look more like the one in the logo on the Cynosport website. Pretty much just need to color change the the dog to have an urajiro pattern, lol. I wanted to have a desert background with saguaros and stuff. Maybe make the equipment look kind of ghost towny, lol.
Tumblr media
Another factor in my lack of motivation is that I'm not so well acquainted with USDAA staff and feel like I might be stepping on toes if I try to sell a print too closely inspired by their logo. Wouldn't have a problem contacting NADAC staff, but USDAA (or any other org, lol) I'm not as comfortable with.
I had two commissions come in this week, and I'd like to get them done before I end up swamped at the end of the year. I'd like to get the rest of my products order from printers this week. Maybe I'll change my mind if I get everything else done and have the time to finish the piece and get prints ordered, but I have my doubts it will happen.

Face of Tiger
In Japan, “Shimekazari”(Shinto decoration) is hung at the entrance to welcome the gods at the New Year. One of the items used for this “Shimekazari” is a kind of fern called “Urajiro”. The new shoots are growing now.
By the way, can’t you see the “Face of Tiger” in the center of the green spiral? #注連飾り #裏白 #ウラジロ #シダ #shinto #decoration #shimekazari #urajiro #fern #face #tiger #cat

I gave into temptation and made more My Hero Academia OCs so Jino has some buddies. I decided it'd be fun to have them all be in a class that sorta works as an AU where the school puts in an extra hero-based course. I have a teacher design to work on too but I'm purty hyped. Still not revealing their quirks yet. I will eventually though, probably when I get their teacher ready to go.

We're rebooting ancient Ginga OCs of mine today, boys!
On the left is Ame, but his old version was called Nizinny! He was originally a Ginga fan-character who looked like a scarred clone of Weed (down to the same shade of blue). I even made an episode of his own series "Ginga Densetsu Nizinny" on YouTube back in the day, using recolored screenshots of the GDW anime. Nizinny himself wasn't related to Weed, actually, but rather a close friend and ally of his.
I haven't really thought of this "reboot" design much, but I do know he's no longer a Ginga character. I think he may be a pet dog who escaped and went to live in the wild? Not sure, though.
On the right we have Zuru (originally named Zuzu), another one of my many Ginga OC's back in the day. He actually looked pretty much like Silverthepuppy's Leafe, but a different shade of a green and with a different scar.
I decided to reboot him into an Akita mutt. His markings (originally the very standard Ginga bear dog urajiro) are now a bit different and inspired by Reika and Fuji from the Densetsu Weed/Nagareboshi Gin anime respectively. I also decided to make him gray (with still a very slight hint of green to him) and green eyes. His scar has also changed shape a bit. I no longer have any art of his original design but honestly that's probably for the better since it was an eyesore and also just a ripoff of another person's character. But I was 12, give tiny me a break lol.
I plan on possibly re-using Zuru in Soldiers of Beyindt if I ever get to said story!
ID below the cut.
[ID: Two digitally drawn fullbodies of spitz-type dog mutts. On the left we have a blueish gray dog with pricked ears in a sitting pose. He has a pale gray, almost white face, legs, chest and belly. He has brown eyes and two scars across his nose bridge, as well as one on his right flank near his back. He is wearing a purple collar and looking up curiously. The background is pale purple. The other character is a gray-and-white dog in a standing pose from a bird's eye view. He is looking up with a neutral expression. He has a white muzzle, chest, belly and paws, as well as green eyes. His nose is liver-colored and he has a scar that runs from his forehead across his left eye. The background is green. End ID.]

Marking genetics are fascinating!
Did you know that white markings on domestic animals happen, because the embryo grows too fast for pigment to keep up, and it kinda gets torn? So the colored bits are basically just shreds/islands of color that got separated from each other when the animal grew into itself?! So, like if an animal has only small white spots on chest/toes, its pigment could hold together almost to the end, but those with bigger white bits got their pigmenty bits torn apart more, and you can see repeated patterns (ever noticed how, for example it's quite common for cats to have white between the eyes that tapers to a point up on the forehead, where the different halves of face pigment got separated, and how some of them have spot on the nose that's basically a pigment island, and sometimes you have cats with narrow white stripe going from the eye up to the forehead because the nose island only separated a little from one side, but not the other? That's Tuftuf's face marking right there.) This is also why white markings ALWAYS cover all the other markings, because they are literally holes in the color. Sometimes the white can have holes in itself, like ticking or dalmatian spots, but they're basically just holes to see the animal's ACTUAL color through, they are the tiny islands of what color it really is.
And don't you dare apologize for giving me feedback! I live for feedback, but it's rare to get these days!
