It was another night for Billy and Stu. They spent hours talking about girls and watching TV. They've both drunk any beer they could get their hands on. Stu was laughing at the TV even when it wasn't funny. Billy stared off into the distance as if he was distracted.
"Stu."
"hmm?" He glanced over wide eyed at Billy. Billy leaned forward putting his elbows on his knees.
"I saw this movie... Def by temptation..".
"here we go!" Stu laughed. Billy glared, "Have you heard of a succubus?". Stu shrugged, "Uh the demon girl? Like Lilith with Adam and eve??". Billy went silent, "My mom randomly takes the family to church okay?" Stu took a sip of his beer.
"Yeah okay. What if we tried to summon one?". Stu busted out laughing, "like that'd work!".
"Oh c'mon.. you're not scared..are ya?" Billy teased. Stu knitted his eyebrows, "No.". Billy smiled, "Where's your computer?".
"My dad's office." Stu said looking back at the tv. Billy stood up walking towards his dad's office. Stu looked over and jumped off the couch following him.
"So, we're actually doing this?" Stu asked. Billy kept walking opening the door to the office.
"Yes, Stu." Billy turned the computer on and sat in the office chair. Stu sighed leaning on the desk, "We gotta make this quick or my folks will be pissed about the computer bill.".
"calm down, Stuart." Billy grumbled as his typed quickly. Billy's eyes went wide, "Get chalk and five candles.". Billy signed off the internet and started writing on paper. Stu just stared, "Go!" Billy rushed. Stu left leaving Billy in the office alone.
Once Stu came back with what Billy asked , Billy had a pile of pillows in Stus room.
"What's this for?"
"Her.. it.." Billy took the chalk and drew a pentagram.
"light the candles." Billy muttered, Stu nodded lighting the candles. Billy placed them on the sides of the Pentagram. He then flipped up his hunting blade from his pocket. He sliced down his palm letting his blood hit the paper.
"Stu you gotta do it." Billy pushed the knife towards him. Stu sighed and cut his palm, "she better be hot.". Stu let his blood drip onto the paper.
"what now?" Stu asked looking at the paper.
"take off your clothes." Billy said as he took of his shirt. Stu smiled, "If you wanted to see me naked you could've just asked.". Billy rolled his eyes, he left his boxers on and sat down. Stu sat beside him and waited.
"So..." Stu whispered.
"shut up and relax dipshit." Billy mumbled. Stu nodded and tried to relax his body. Once the boys were fully relaxed the paper lit on fire turning into ashes. Stus eyes widen, "Did you..?" .
"No.." he whispered.
"Of course he didn't I did." You said softly. The boys jumped looking behind them. You smiled, you wore a small piece of black cloth covering your private bits.
"No fucking way..." Stu whispered. You smirked as you walked around his room.
"Was that beer laced?" Billy Whispered.
"I don't think so." Stu responded. You looked at them, "Billy.." you pointed at Billy.
"and Stu.. right?" You then pointed at Stu. The boys nodded, you grinned.
"So.. you boys are known as what the mortals call.. "Ghostface"?".
"How'd.. how'd you know?" Stu blurted. Billy elbowed him, you smiled and sat Infront of them.
"oh sweetie... I know everything.." you gently cup Stus face. Your fingers trail from his cheek to his chin. You smile and then look at Billy.
"Mm. You two don't know much about succubi do you?" You asked softly. They both shook their head.
"Well.. we live off of semen.. and in order for me to protect you we.. bond one might say." You got up again to study Stus room.
"then I'll help kill Sydney." You glance back at them. Stu nodded quickly, Billy just stared.
"How can we trust you?" He asked. You smiled walking towards him, you grabbed his chin making him look up at you.
"Oh Billy.. poor sweet Billy. It wasn't fair was it?... What they did to you. You were only 16 when you found out..". Billy didn't respond, you sat on your knees Infront of him leaning close.
"I won't abandon you.. all you gotta do is call.. and im there." You smile. Billy's eyes soften, "What if you're not?". You tilted your head, "I need you to survive.. both of you. What I need only.. you two can give me..". Billy smirked, "You have dark.. desires.." you whispered. You glanced at Stu, "And you.. you wanna.. be rough.. in way girls don't like.".
"So. The deal is I need semen to keep living. And you have that... Both of you. And i will help with your...chores.". You smile. The boys are silent, "Oh right. Both of you like being dominant.". You leaned back, "Don't be afraid.. I only bite if you want me to..".
Stu was the first to make a move, he leaned forward kissing you. You smiled and kissed him back, he slowly crawled on top of you. You laid back in the pile of pillows, he ran his hands all over your body. You glanced over at Billy who watched intensely.
"I think your friend likes watching you..." You whispered to Stu. He looked over at Billy and then smiled. He went back to kissing you and then your neck. Your head stayed to the side to watch Billy. He tilted his head slightly and leaned close to you.
"What exactly are you?.." Billy whispered. You smiled, "I'm the spawn of Satan herself.". Billy smirked and kissed you. Stu sat up looking down at you, "You're so.. sexy..". Billy also smiled down at you, he then leaned into Stu giving him a kiss. Stus hands slid up your body pushing the fabric up. The two boys stared down in amazement.
"What? I know you two aren't virgins." You smiled. Stus mouth was open slightly as he observed your body. Billy smirked and gently touched your thigh. You smiled as you felt the cold blade bump into your thigh. Billy balanced this blade away from you and watched Stu. Stus fingers slid through your folds.
"Whoa.." he took his fingers out showing how shiny they were. Billy smiled before sucking on Stus fingers. Stu laughed softly, you leaned on your elbows observing them. Billy looked over at you, "Can we tie you up?". You raised your eyebrow, "You can tie my wrists." You offered. He nodded grabbing something to tie them with. He went behind you tying your wrists together. He smiled to himself observing you.
"This is.. unreal.." he whispered. You smiled at him, "Well I'm real so get used to it.". Stu quickly shoved his member in you without warning. Your body jolted and you let out a moan.
"She so fucking wet." Stu moaned out. Billy smirked watching Stu push your thighs close to your head. He held onto them for support as he thrust himself. Billy made you look up at him, "Do you like him fucking you?". You smiled, "Mhm.. best sex I've had in years..".
"oh just you wait.." Billy leaned down to kiss you. Stu continued to pound himself into you abusing your pussy. His head hung low, "Shit!" He shouted. Billy looked over at him, "What?".
"I'm gonna come.. already.." he breathed heavily. You smiled, "Come inside me, baby.. I need you too so bad.". Stu moaned continuing to move forward until he released. His body collapsed on top of you, his head laid on your chest.
"That's the fastest I've ever came..." he whispered. You smirked, "I am a succubus." You reminded him. Billy looked down at Stu, "What if.. we both had her at once..". Stus eyes lit up, "I call ass.". Billy rolled his eyes and moved himself from behind you.
"Get up." He demanded Stu. Stu sat up taking himself out of you. Billy laid down, "Help her onto me..". Stu grabbed your arms and helped you get on top of him. You gently yanked your wrists seeing if you could get out of them. You couldn't.
Billy brought his member into your core as you sunk down. He grunted, "Shit..". Stu smiled widely pushing your body down. He spread your ass as he entered into you. He leaned back and grabbed your tied wrists as leverage.
"I gotta say... I never took two at once.." you admitted. Billy smiled at you, "Here that, Stu? We're her first threesome.". Stu laughs softly, "That's even better.". Billy began to thrust up matching Stus rhythm. Your face was buried into his neck softly moaning.
They continued to use your body for long lengths of time. They collectively came inside of your holes leaving them oozing with their come. You'd whine telling them it was getting to be too much at once. Billy laughed, "Can't handle us?".
You shook your head, "No.." you whined. He chuckled, "Aw.. she's so fucked out of it..". Stu laughed, "She tired from her holes being filled constantly. Did men from the past not fill you up this good?". You shook your head no, they two men laughed.
They untied your wrists and laid you down on the bed. Billy looked over at you, "When will we see you again.".
"Whenever you need me to kill someone..." you whisper. He nods, "Okay..".
"What if.. we miss you?" Stu adds in. You smiled, "Then I'll show up.". The two men nodded, you fluttered your eyes closed disappearing from the bed.

Welcome to my Nightmare Ch. 4
They really chose to court (Y/N) Edward Cullen style. You're not making the best choices, bestie.
PS: Sorry for the long wait! I haven't felt really motivated, but I thought it would be better to wait and give quality over just putting it out to just get closer to finishing it.

Chapter Four: Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
A sound woke me up. A shrill, terrified, sound, like prey being devoured by a predator. It’s chasing me, isn’t it? Is it me? I’m in my bed, aren’t I, or at least, I’m supposed to be.
My body shuddered to life as I rose from my bed, which felt like an open coffin, a coffin of my own personal hell. The shrill, which I came to understand was the sound of a horse crying out in fear, lead me to the window. The curtains taunted me. They flapped in the wind like bird wings, tattered and filled with holes by moths. I had almost touched the ledge; a thought crossed my mind. Was the window open when I went to bed? No. It couldn’t be, it wasn’t open before I left, unless Lucy opened it to let in some fresh air. Yes, I remember now. She told me it gets stuffy up here, how silly of me. How paranoid of me. No one would have any reason to frighten me, right?
My fingers made contact with the wooded sill; I noticed something peculiar. A man. Holy shit it’s Michael Myers. No! No. No, no, I was being silly. I laughed to myself in the dark. Of course! It’s just a tree. Of course it was, right? Damn I must be really tired.
I continued to stare into the darkness outside my bedroom window. When I first got here, found the night to be comforting; however, after a couple incidents with those men, I felt like prey. I made me feel weak, it showed me my mortality. There’s a belief that humans are the ultimate apex predator, but that’s just wrong. We’re just like every other animal, surviving another day, waiting for our demise.
It moved.
I was caught in a trance; I couldn’t look away or move, I felt like I was being hypnotized. I continued to stare at what I thought was a man, it was a man after all, right? Not some horrible demon waiting for me to look away. I was afraid to look away, what if he was gone? Somehow that was more terrifying than something being there to begin with. He just stared at me, not moving. I looked around to see what had happened to the horses I heard earlier. They must have run off to a different part of the pasture.
I looked back at the man. I noted the reflection in his eyes. That would mean it’s at least a human, but I thought only animals that were nocturnal had those. Perhaps I was wrong. I looked out into the distance once more, another pair of reflective eyes. and another, and another.
I slammed my window shut, closed the curtains, and ran into the small bathroom connected to my bedroom. No windows thankfully. My breathing was getting heavier, I felt claustrophobic, heavy, frightened. I felt like a wild animal, like prey. I began to feel the tears and snot run from my orifices. I wiped myself off feeling disgust. Feeling the coolness of the floor, I made my way to the toilet and desperately hugged it as if it were going to comfort me. The bile rose from the depths of my stomach, the acid burning my throat, and eventually made its way past my teeth into the toilet where it belonged. I hated puking.
After expelling what little food I had left, I began to feel a little better. The tears continued to fall, but at least they fell silently. I reached for the toilet paper and began to wipe away the snot that had built in a short amount of time. I wiped my tears, praying I didn’t wake up with puffy eyes. I don’t know if I could handle it if Jennifer asked about what had happened to make me cry that hard.
The light of the moon illuminated the bathroom showing me the toilet, otherwise there would’ve been a horrible explanation for Lucy for the vomit on the floor. That woman didn’t need to worry so much. Sam had told me about how she was worried about him being left alone, especially since Michael had apparently gone off with some girl the first night when we came here, and every other night after that.
I stood up and shuffled myself to the sink. I turned on the faucet and let the cool water pool in my hand. I brought the water up to my mouth and rinsed out the nasty taste. I glanced at the toilet once more. A window that I didn’t notice was there before greeted me. It was dark when I came in.
I worked up the courage to open the door. Nothing. I wasn’t sure if that was a blessing or a curse. The window was closed, the curtains pulled, my bed ruined from me leaving it so quickly. It waited for me to come back. Come back into the safety of covering myself like when a child fears the dark.
/|\^._.^/|\
Morning came with a loud knock. “(Y/N). (Y/N)? Are you awake? don’t you have work this morning?” Lucy’s voice rang from the other side of the wooden door.
I proceeded to put on a plain shirt and jeans with a pair of tennis shoes. I put my hair back plainly with no makeup or jewelry. Today was not the day to look nice, just average. Especially since I had a shitty night’s sleep. plus, I didn’t want that guy recognizing me, or whoever else was stalking me.
Just then a thought, or perhaps a person, crossed my mind. Paul. Paul was around the white-haired guy. Panic started to rise in me. For the first time I felt true fear. Paul was the insider. He was the one who was helping them stalk me. Paul saw me with my friends, I had told him a little bit about myself, Paul knew where I worked, he knew Lucy. I was just a game. He must have also been the cause for the dark-haired guy on the beach, they must have followed me to Adam’s house, then home. Paul is helping them. They’re going to kill me.
I thought perhaps I should call out from work, but I was afraid of sounding crazy. The sleep deprivation over the last couple of days wasn’t helping. Perhaps I wasn’t in the right state of mind to make serious decisions. I decided to go to work and think it over there.
Jennifer commented on how I looked that morning. I told her my worries, what happened in the field last night, and how maybe I should have just called in sick. I told her I needed the money and that it wasn’t a good look for a new employee to call in sick after only working for a couple of days.
“I think Michael would be willing to bring me back home before nightfall.” I explained to her.
“Who’s Michael?” She asked.
“Michael is one of the people I’m living with, He’s Lucy’s son. Lucy would be more than willing, but I’m not sure how late she works, and I most certainly don’t want to worry her. Plus, I don’t want to bother Adam since he’s also noticed some weird stuff going on.”
“What things?” She asked. I told her about the man at the beach, and later that night after watching a movie.
“I just don’t know what to do.” I said defeated. Work sadly didn’t end early for me, in fact we had to stay late because Brenda was running a little behind. It was night, I needed to find Michael. Sam said he had been going to the boardwalk every night and coming home late. God, I hoped today wasn’t the day he decided to stay home.
I searched through the screams of people to find him. What was once intoxication was now a death trap, it felt like instead of joy, they were screaming for their life. Why did everyone have to look the same? Why couldn’t I find Michael! In my daze, I accidentally bumped into someone. I began to apologize when I noticed who it was. The white hair and trench coat made me want to vomit.
“It’s alright,” the man said, “You need a ride home?” he asked.
How would he know? “No thank you, I’m alright.” I almost ran to find Michael at this point, maybe I should’ve just asked Adam, but who knows if he was already at home by now, I bother to memorize his number either.
I spotted my savior. “Michael,” I grabbed his shoulder, “Please take me home.” I begged.
“What?” He was confused at my request.
“Michael please, I really need to get home.” Tears began to form, I was truly scared for what was going to happen to me.
“Uh,” he looked back at a girl akwardly, “Well. . . “
“Michael please! Someone is stalking me, I don’t want to die.” A tear fell and the girl refused to look at me.
“Ya know, maybe you’re just tired. Sam said you were out pretty late last night- “
“Are you fucking kidding me? I have a genuine fear and you’re just leaving me here.?” I shouted. A few people began to stare. He just looked at her. Oh my god, he wanted to ditch me for some other chick.
“Hey Mikey!” A familiar voice that I recognized to belong to Paul, broke me out of my daze. “Hey (Y/N)! What’s up!”
I quickly wiped my snot and tears. If they found out I knew, maybe I wouldn’t have a chance to escape. “Nothing, this is Michael.”
“Yeah, we know Michael, we’ve been hanging since he got here. I didn’t know you two knew each other though.” he laughed.
“Yeah, small world.” I joked. He sensed the fear in my voice
“Oober small, man.” Something was off in Paul’s voice. “Well, you wanna come with us?”
“Oh, uh, maybe some other time I really got to get going. I think my ride is about to leave soon.” I hoped Lucy was still at the video store.
“Mom isn’t working tonight, didn’t she tell you?” Michael asked.
“What?” I panicked, I didn’t recall her saying anything but, maybe I was tired from this morning. “No, I don’t.”
“Well, I’ll take you home after I catch up with them. Is that ok?” He asked.
“Sure.” Maybe this was the end. Maybe I never had a chance to escape after all.

SPOILER WARNING
Book Review: Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
It has taken me a month and a half to fully collect my thoughts on this novel, and I think I can officially say it has become my favorite book of all time; and I can't wait to reread it and read her other two novels as well.
Upon introduction to this book, before reading, I thought this would be another version of Ariadne's tragic abandoning by Theseus, maybe introducing Dionysus at the novel's close. However, this book breathed life and an agency into the character of Ariadne that mythology and time has neglected to give her. Saint's eloquent and tragic retelling includes the eras of Ariadne's life in her youthful naivete falling in love with Theseus, framing his abandonment of her as a rightfully traumatic event that stayed with her for her entire life. Saint very carefully wrote Theseus' character in the beginning in a way that you understood why Ariadne fell in love with him, despite all his horrible crimes; it is here that I'll stop to admit a very small part of me was rooting for him to turn out as a hero, for Ariadne's sake. The story goes as it has been previously told, and in walks Dionysus to fulfill all of our protagonist's wildest desire. Ariadne finds content in her love and life as a mother until the feelings of neglect, abandonment, and distrust return to the surface. Dionysus constantly travels, and, when he's home, he attends to secret rituals with his maenads (followers) in the woods. As we see Ariadne's distrust grow, we see more of her maturity and caution as a traumatized woman. When her greatest fears are confirmed, I had so much hope as a reader that this would be a chance for her to become a heroine, flipping the original story and creating a "girl-boss" twist on a traditionally patriarchal tale.
Of course I was shocked and left speechless with the story's end that had Ariadne die with her husband and Hera to blame. There was no hope for Ariadne as a woman, as a mother, as a mortal in that harsh reality.
And this isn't even to mention the massive role and tragedy of Phaedra. A woman who longs to defy tradition but is trapped at every corner, and when she goes to lean on the one person she thinks she can trust, Ariadne, she sees that Ariadne has chosen to live that traditional life that burdens Phaedra so. It sparks a sense of betrayal, heightened when Phaedra opens up to her sister about her lust for Hippolytus. The relationship between Ariadne and Phaedra is such a well-written sisterly bond, which left me wanting to drive the seven hours it takes just to hug my sister. There is no one who understands these women better than each other, yet Phaedra is such a tragic character that she dies shortly after feeling betrayed by her sister; she had already been betrayed and lied to by her husband and had fallen into delusion over Hippolytus. I could go on about Phaedra, but I'll leave more for Saint to say.
The way women are represented without negating the harsh realities of what it was to be a woman in Ancient Greece is just so beautiful and refreshing, and Saint writes every word with love and care for her protagonists. We root for Ariadne, just as we mourn for both women as if they were our own sisters. The roles they take on are roles we still see women succumbed to today, yet they fall to shame and criticism in so many modern stories. It has the same feeling as when you watch Greta Gerwig's films: when the different sisters in Little Women (2019) choose to be mothers or writers or wives or artists, supporting each choice they make. Or when the women in Barbie (2023) want to be ordinary without being called basic or stereotypical. Or even when they want to be extraordinary, there should be no shame.
The tragedy is truly that, whatever role Ariadne and Phaedra chose or were placed into, they were never truly free. There can never be freedom and there can be no heroes in a world that is run by gods and men.
I give Ariadne by Jennifer Saint 5/5 Stars

A Maiden… Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers. A Duty… The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden. A Kingdom… Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Dancing with the Devil
Tumblr media
Lucifer takes Jenn to the mortal world for a date. This story follows Bedeviled Feelings and is a commission featuring the OC Jennifer. Shared with permission of the requestor. Approx. 1500 words
Lucifer felt quite satisfied with himself. He watched Jenn’s expression light up as she ran to the window to look out at the city below them. They were in the pent-house suite at the best hotel in the city, and the view was breathtaking. He had a soft spot for beauty in the mortal world, but it was Jenn’s reaction that made it worthwhile.
“Better than riding lessons?” He came up to stand beside her, and slipped an arm around her shoulders.
Jenn gave him a teasing look. “Mmmm, I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it.” She looked back out the window with a pleased sigh. “It will be nice to have the whole weekend with just the two of us. Barring any Devildom emergencies.”
Lucifer thought back to Mammon’s face when he’d told him what would happen should any of his brothers cause a problem over the next few days. “I don’t think anyone will bother us.”
She laughed. “Good. Because I plan on enjoying room service, the giant tub, and that huge bed. Seriously, I could fit three of you in there! This whole room is sized for orgies.”
“You couldn’t handle three of me.” He nipped her neck. “And I’m not sharing you so no orgies.”
Jenn pretended a pout. “So it’ll be just the two of us in all this space for three whole days?”
“Not quite.” Lucifer grinned. “Tomorrow night, we’re going dancing.”
Her expression was not quite the joy and excitement he’d hoped for. “Dancing?” An eyebrow went up. “Do we have to?”
“Yes.” He turned her to face him. “You will enjoy it. I promise. I am a very good dancer.”
“Pffft.” She frowned. “Dancing is stupid. I’d rather go shopping. Or just watch tv.”
Lucifer felt a flicker of annoyance for a heartbeat. He’d arranged a private club and a world-renowned DJ, he’d picked out a dress, set up catering . . . and she’d been more excited to go riding with Mephistopheles. Then he realized she was hiding something.
“Jenn. Do you not know how to dance?”
She gave him a hard look. “Of course I know how. I practice Capoeira and that’s a dance. I’ve been clubbing before!”
He smirked, slipping a finger under her chin. “Ballroom dancing, Jenn. Have you ever waltzed? Danced tango? Salsa?” He shifted his hips.
“No.” Jenn met his gaze reluctantly.
“Don’t you want to try something new? Learn something you don’t already know?”
She blinked. “I - Luci, I don’t want to look like an idiot. Worse, in front of you! I’ll just step on your feet and fall over myself and - I don’t know . . .”
He leaned forward and gently kissed her lips. It was a struggle not to do more. But he prided himself on control and on always knowing what Jenn needed from him. “You never look like an idiot to me.” He stroked her hair. “But if you really don’t want to -”
“No. Wait. I . . . it could be fun. You just have to promise not to laugh, ok?”
Lucifer kissed her again. “Only with you, never at you.” He could understand her desire. It was his very own sin, after all.
Jenn kissed him back and after that, there weren’t a lot of words. It turned out the giant bed was exactly the right size for just the two of them though it squeaked fiercely at points. A sort of auditory ‘do not disturb’ sign for staff.
The next day, the couple left the hotel, feeling smug and satisfied. They arrived at the club Lucifer reserved and stepped inside. The DJ wouldn’t arrive for hours and they had the place to themselves. Lots of time for Lucifer to teach her the basics.
He went and set up the music while she wandered around the building, laughing at the mirrored ceilings and hanging cages. “This place must be wild when it’s open.”
“I suppose. I chose it for the name.” He pointed to the writing over the top of the bar, gold neon lights against a black background. ‘Lucifer’s’
Jenn grinned. “Does that make you part owner?”
“I hope not. I would never hear the end of it from Mammon and Levi.” He clicked play on the list of songs he’d chosen for them. All safe for human ears. Music sounded from the hidden speakers all around them.
Lucifer walked to the dance floor, a ridiculous set of glass blocks with what looked like fire beneath them. He held out his hand. “Come, my love.”
She came, though she looked as if she might be having second thoughts.
He took her hand and pulled her into position. “Chest up. Hips tucked.” Lucifer looked her over, and gently pushed her shoulders down and back. “There. Now.” He whispered a charm for grace as his hands settled on her. Then, with a smile he led her through the steps of a basic waltz, moving slowly and with the confidence of a long-time dancer.
Jenn was tense at first, her body stiff. But as the song played on and she didn’t not stutter or fall, she began to relax into it and even enjoy it. “This isn’t so hard.”
“Is that so?” He changed the steps as the next song came on, a faster beat with a more complex set of quick motions. The charm kept her in time with him and she laughed with joy.
By the time the charm wore off, she was picking up skill and genuinely enjoying herself. Lucifer spun her, tossed her, and then caught her in a dip. As she came back up, she stepped badly and fell into him. He fell back, tripping over the tangle of her feet with his. He landed on the dancefloor with her sprawled atop him.
Jenn’s face was flushed with exertion and embarrassment. “I knew I’d end up falling. I’m sorry.” She looked like she might cry. “We were having so much fun and I just . . . I guess I wasn’t paying attention to where I stepped.”
“It’s fine.”
“Sure. I bet you land on your ass every time you dance.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m just not good at this.” She started to get up, but he grabbed her hand to keep her there.
“It is a skill, and like most skills, you must practice. For this being your first time, you did well. Very well.” Lucifer gave her an almost-smile. “Do not take my praise lightly.”
Jenn sighed and slumped against him. “And I suppose that was all me and had nothing to do with the charm you cast at the start?”
He hadn’t expected her to notice that. “It appears I’ll have to try harder to bespell you in future.”
She laughed. “I guess you need to practice that skill, hm?”
Lucifer grinned. “Perhaps. Now, we best get up or the DJ will walk in on us practicing an entirely different kind of dance.”
“The horizontal mamba?” She smirked and wiggled her hips. “The titty tango?”
He gave her a warning look. It wasn’t part of his evening plan to make love on the floor of the club, but plans could change.
“Fine, fine.” She sighed and then stood up. “If the DJ is coming, shouldn’t I go get ready?”
“We both should. There are dressing rooms in the VIP lounge. And champagne. I wasn’t sure what you liked.” He paused at the admission that there was anything about her he didn’t know.
Jenn grinned. “Let a lady keep some mystery, hm?” Then she sauntered off with a spicy last look tossed over her shoulder.
Lucifer decided to let it go for now. He would get the information from her later, when she was in a more vulnerable position. Preferably tied. Splayed on his bed. Desperate from his teasing touch . . . he swallowed, feeling suddenly a bit too warm. His clothes just a touch too tight. Dancing. They were here for dancing. There would be more than enough time later to sate his other desires.
He changed his own clothes with a spell, turning them into a human world tuxedo. He could never understand why mortals felt the need to have nine parts to what should have been a simple suit. Nevertheless, he thought he looked rather good in it.
Not as good as Jenn did when she came out of the dressing room though. The gown he’d commissioned came to her mid thigh, ruffles shifting and moving as she walked, a bit of  lace peeking from the edge. The top clung to her breasts as if molded to them, the thin silk showing every inch of the skin it covered. And the colors were perfect for her. A light mist-blue at the top that sank into midnight hues at the bottom, with a smattering of tiny rain-drop gems that caught the light.
She was breathtaking and she knew it. He could see the pride and pleasure in her gaze as she enjoyed his hungry look. “So . . . are you going to take me out dancing?”
“It would be my pleasure.” He handed her a glass of champagne.
“Even if I fall and take you down with me again?”
Lucifer’s eyes burned with an unholy love. “There is no one else I’d rather fall beside.”

Blood and Ash (book 5): A Soul of Ash and Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Only his memories can save her…
A great primal power has risen. The Queen of Flesh and Fire has become the Primal of Blood and Bone—the true Primal of Life and Death. And the battle Casteel, Poppy, and their allies have been fighting has only just begun. Gods are awakening across Iliseeum and the mortal realm, readying for the war to come.
But when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas faces the very real possibility that the dire, unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him. Cas is given some advice, though—something he plans to cling to as he waits to see her beautiful eyes open once more: Talk to her.
And so, he does. He reminds Poppy how their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows in the process. But it’s anybody’s guess what she’ll wake to or exactly how much of the realm and Cas will have changed when she does.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout revisits Poppy and Casteel’s epic love story in the next installment of the Blood and Ash series. But this time, Hawke gets to tell the tale.

My Review: 5/5 Stars
This book was everything you could have wanted in a Casteel point of view story. Taking place shortly after the previous book, Casteel and Poppy are about to fight a battle they never have before. Instead of fighting an enemy they can they, their enemy is simply time. Time for Poppy to complete the final steps as she becomes the Primal of Life and Death. But there may be a very small catch of possibility as she rests in stasis. Advice given to Casteel? Talk to her. And what better way to remind Poppy of their story than to start at the beginning? It's time to find out exactly what was going on with Casteel during From Blood and Ash.
We learn SO many things about him and others during this time. I loved going back and seeing how he was feeling, turns out Casteel had quite a lot of mixed feelings during this time. And not only that, he was (and honestly still is) dealing with his capture. We get to see how deep that runs. Casteel is complicated and your heart goes out to him more to realize just how far it goes. We get to see many scenes I'm sure everyone wanted to see in his point of view. And most importantly, we get to see how he fell in love with Poppy, even when he didn't know it himself. I also loved that we get to see things that made no sense to Casteel at the time but came together later. What I loved most about this story though was that we weren't completely in the past. If you read the sneak peek of the first 3 chapters, you know the story starts in present day. And that is sprinkled throughout. Which again explains why Jennifer said that this book is truly book 5 and makes sense to read at this point rather than right after FBAA. Those pieces were my favorite because we got a lot of new information (the end alone had me reeling!!) and we get to see some reflection from Casteel. Also some hints of information that we have yet to learn but are promised to come later!! (You'll know exactly what I'm talking about when you see it.) This was important to me because it kept the series going in an important way.
I really adored this story and it was just another great addition to this series. I can't wait for the next ones coming and this world has only gotten more interesting and complex as the series goes on. You definitely do not want to miss this book!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Screaming at this description for A Soul of Ash and Blood (Casteel's book)
Jennifer L. Armentrout revisits the first novel in her phenomenal Blood and Ash series. But this time…it’s Hawke’s turn to tell the story.
Filled with new scenes, insights, and a few surprises, A Soul of Ash and Blood is a must-read for fans of From Blood and Ash and the love story of Poppy and Hawke.

Little Homeworld Life chapter 19: Fun in the Sun (originally posted on May 1, 2023)
AN: Just in time for the beginning of summer, we have a beach episode! Yep, after the emotional trauma of last time, we could all use a little R&R and just a little fanservice too. But let's not have that distract from what Black Rutile has planned now that she's unleashed what is essentially Bill Cipher, Discord, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Bat Mite, the Collector, and the Beyonder all rolled into one with no shred of morals or care for mortal life, since we already implied last chapter that he convinced Adolf Hitler to become chancellor and start the Nazis. But for now, he's just content to sit back and wait until he can be fully freed by causing chaos like he usually does. And on a related note, I originally intended for Flipso to be voiced by David Tennant, but then the Steven versus Big Jack Horner from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish came along and I figured I could reference those by replacing him with John Mulaney. I think I've been talking too much, let's get on with the show!
Synopsis: As summer begins, Little Homeworld hits the beach.

Summer had finally begun, and right off the bat, it seemed like the hottest day of the year. However, that did not deter Black Rutile as she worked with Rasputina to research the powers of Flipso further, all while Flipso gave some running commentary by reminiscing on his past deeds.
"And the moral of the story is never use a volcano as a barbecue pit." Flipso finished another story of the chaos he created in eons past. "And that was the story of how I accidentally destroyed Pompeii! Those silly Romans didn't know what had happened! I thought I learned my lesson, but then I tried doing it again with Mount St. Helens. Eh, it doesn't matter to me either way; a volcano's a volcano, and a dead body is a dead body."
"I did not expect him to be this casual towards exterminating innocent lives." Rasputina commented on Flipso's comedic levels of apathy towards his sociopathic actions. "I thought he was just going to be a funny, obnoxious trickster."
"Well, appearances can be deceiving." Black Rutile replied. "Now then, it says here that in order to restore Flipso's physical form, only those with the blackest of hearts are considered worthy to receive his godlike powers." This reading from Flipso's page began piquing her interest. "Godlike powers, huh? If I had abilities of that caliber, I could use them to erase Steven from existence and rule unopposed!" Suddenly, there was a loud knocking at the door. "Someone's coming, hide!"
Just as Flipso and Rasputina vanished, White Topaz kicked in the door to Black Rutile's house with urgent news. "Black Rutile, you gotta come outside! The Crystal Gems have a big announcement to make!"
"They're finally outlawing Era 3 because I was right all along, and they're giving me special permission to execute Steven on live television?!" Black Rutile excitedly asked, much to White Topaz's dismay. "Come on, a Gem can dream!"
"No, they got something really fun planned!" White Topaz explained. "Everybody's talking about what to do for summer; you should come and see!"
"But I was busy with something!" Black Rutile whined in dismay as she looked back at her research. "Okay, fine, I'll see what you want to do, but count me out!"
"Yep, count me out." Black Rutile grumbled as the Gems of Little Homeworld gathered around the Warp Pad to hear what the Crystal Gems had to say.
--
"We're going to the beach, and you're all invited!" Pearl excitedly announced, to the eagerness of everyone around them.
"Spending time with my greatest enemies, the very reason my life is ruined?" Black Rutile frowned. "In your dreams, you putrid fascists!"
"Hey, cut the backtalk already!" Amethyst said to Black Rutie." You've been awfully stressed out lately, so this could be a chance for you to kick back and relax a little!"
"You're the reason I'm so stressed, you idiots!" Black Rutile yelled just as Garnet tried calming her down with a firm shoulder rub. "Stop touching me without my consent!"
"You see, this is what we mean." Garnet calmly advised the Rutile terrorist. "You're under a lot of stress at the moment, and we're looking for ways to help you calm down more. Please, just let us help you for once."
"Yeah, and we'd thought that maybe getting you involved in some relaxing activities could help you out." Lapis agreed with Garnet. "And who knows? Maybe you'll finally see how great Earth can be as well."
"I highly doubt it." Jasper rolled her eyes in response.
"See, she gets me!" Black Rutile agreed with Jasper before she saw Flipso emerge from behind her. "And what do you want?"
"Frankly, I think you should chillax for a bit." Flipso suggested. "Get a little breather from researching yours truly! In fact, how much of your hot brown morning potion have you had lately?"
"A little too much for me to count." Black Rutile replied, even though, at the moment, she was the only one who could see Flipso and make her look like she was talking to herself. Gawking at the sight, Jasper turned to Aquamarine and Holly Blue with a thumb pointed at the Rutile while the two blue Gems just shrugged to try and keep up the illusion.
"Maybe I could use a break now and then." Black Rutile admitted. "Fine, I'll go along with your little trip. But I won't like it!" The other Gems began cheering in delight, much to Black Rutile's annoyance. "I'm not liking it already."
--
"I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold." Teal Zircon said dramatically as she pointed a water gun straight at Diaspore's face. "Your choice, rebel scum."
"Draw!" Diaspore yelled back while pulling out a water gun of her own to fire at Teal Zircon, starting a playfully intense water-fight between the two. All around the duo, Gems of all shapes and sizes littered the beach, either playing in the sand or enjoying the water. All of them were having the summertime of their lives, all except for one.
"Yes, yes. You all have your fun, you fools." Black Rutile, now dressed in a white rash guard and black shorts, glowered as she sulked on a beach towel under an umbrella. "I'll be hiding away here where no one else can find me plotting."
"Hey, Black Rutile!" Lapis exclaimed, making Black Rutile yelp in surprise before turning to face the blue Gem, who had swapped her usual ensemble for a blue and white one-piece with a white skirt. "Sorry to give you a scare. I just wanted to check up on you."
"Well, I shouldn't be any of your beeswax or whatever they say!" Black Rutile scowled at the terraformer. "Now go away!"
"You know, you could do tons of stuff with us." Lapis said as she pointed towards some of the Gems' activities. "Like surfing, for example."
"WHOO, COWABUNGA!" Zuli shrieked delightfully as she rode the wave in a yellow crop top and shorts.
"Yeah, keep it going!" Laz, dressed in a dark blue one-piece, cheered her bestie on as she recorded the whole thing.
"Volleyball." Lapis continued while Jasper and White Topaz were engaged in a volleyball game against Blue and Yellow Pearl.
"SPIKE!" Yellow Pearl yelled vigorously as she spiked the ball right into Jasper's face.
"Uh, Yellow, I'm pretty sure you're taking this a little too seriously." Blue Pearl meekly said as Jasper got back up from the counterattack.
"She's not taking it seriously enough!" Jasper responded before throwing the ball back.
"Get 'em, darling!" White Topaz said excitedly.
"Sandcastle building." Peridot stood above the beach atop a massive sandcastle and looked down on everyone below her. "KNEEL BEFORE ME, CLODS! FOR I STAND ON HIGH; THEREFORE, I AM FAR TALLER THAN ALL OF YOU!"
"Hey, get off my sandcastle, Peridot!" Morganite yelled at Peridot from the base of the castle. "I worked very hard on this and do not want anyone taking credit!"
"Look, Morganite; I'm making a little home for the crabs!" Volleyball giggled as she dug a little hole in the sandcastle to put some crabs in.
"Don't encourage her, Pearl!" Morganite grumbled angrily.
"Some of them are even breaking watermelons." Demantoid tied a blindfold around Tanzanite before handing her a club and spinning her around.
"Are you sure nobody will get hurt?" Tanzanite asked as she stopped spinning and began walking around the beach searching for the watermelon.
"Just trust us and follow my voice." Pyrope assured the purple Gem. "Now then, step a little to the right. No, my right. No, that's right!" Despite the former aristocrat's orders, Tanzanite didn't seem to pay attention. "Are you even listening to me right now?!"
"Ah, I think this is it!" Tanzanite exclaimed before bonking Apatite on the head with the club.
"Watch where you're pointing that thing." Apatite scolded Tanzanite rather nonchalantly.
"You know, all of those do sound enticing," Black Rutile said. "but I think I'm just content with staying here for right now. Now shoo, shoo!"
"Okay, your loss." Lapis said before she flew away, just as Flipso magically appeared beside Black Rutile in a deck chair of his own, wearing a red floral-pattern Hawaiian shirt and drinking out of a coconut.
"Aloha, chum!" Flipso greeted Black Rutile. "Heard you guys were headed for the beach. Frankly, I can see why because, lord almighty, I can feel the temperature rising!" He emphasized his point by summoning a thermometer that immediately burst from the heat. "So, anything you want to do together, Cherie?"
"Not interested." Black Rutile turned down Flipso's offer, much to his dismay, as she turned on her tablet to talk with Sally Grove.
"Aw, you're no fun!" Flipso whined like a petulant child. "I thought you would be the black heart that I needed to get outta this joint, but instead, you're all about rules and control and such! That just ain't my thing!"
"Shut up, I'm talking here!" Black Rutile shushed Flipso before talking with Sally. "Hello, Sally. How are you dealing with this heatwave?"
"I'm doing well. It won't stop me from making videos." Sally replied. "I got some new ones on the pipeline this summer, like 'Bisexual People are Just Straight People with Extra Steps,' 'Eduardo Suarez is a Bad President,' and one I think you'd love, 'Steven Universe is a Garbage Person and Here's Why.'"
"Send me the script for that last one!" Black Rutile suggested eagerly while Flipso impatiently waited to be paid attention to again.
"Oy jevalt, this beach day became such a bore!" Flipso moaned in disappointment just as he got an awful idea. "How about we liven up the joint a bit?" With a sinister cackle, he clapped his hands to make some mischief come to life.
--
"So, what do you think we should do for group activities next, girls?" Pearl asked the other Crystal Gems while adjusting her sunhat. "Maybe an art show or a sports competition?"
"Oh, I'd love the first one!" Peridot eagerly kicked her legs at the idea. "I just need someone to help me out with a meep morp!"
"You know, I never quite got why you call art that word." Bismuth stated. "I mean, why not call it what it is?"
"It's called having a sense of humor, Bismuth, doy!" Lapis replied frustratedly when they all heard a loud rumbling sound. "What was that?"
"Uh, guys. I think you're gonna need to see this." Amethyst said as a giant crab monster emerged from the ocean, spooking everyone on the beach while a white pony fighting it with a sword fell off the creature's back and into the portal where they came from.
"That crab is making me really scared!" Teal Zircon yelled in fright as she tightly held onto Beryl. "But also really hungry!"
"What are we gonna do?!" Beryl added just as the Crystal Gems sprang into action. "Hooray, here they come to save the day!"
"Amethyst, get everyone to safety! Pearl, find a potential weak point!" Garnet began giving orders. "Lapis, Peridot, Bismuth, Jasper, and White Topaz are all with me!"
"Aye, aye, captain!" White Topaz gave a hearty salute before whipping her brass knuckle gauntlet to punch at the crab's leg. "How do you like that, Sebastian?! You must be really hoping to get back down where it's wetter, huh?!"
"What is going on here?!" Holly Blue yelled as she, Cat's Eye, Aquamarine, and the Rubies watched the other Gems fight the crab monster, all while Black Rutile and Flipso sat back with some popcorn and drinks.
"Wherever that thing came from, keep it as far away from my bikini as possible!" Cat's Eye meowed while showing off her athletic body in a bright orange two-piece. "I wouldn't dare have that thing slobber all over me and pinch me to pieces!"
"Is this your friend's doing?" Aquamarine asked, pointing to a relaxing Flipso.
"Wassup?" Flipso smiled while throwing up a peace sign. "I just felt like livening up the joint since someone would rather not pay attention to me!"
"So that's it, you just want attention?" Eyeball responded to the chaos god's announcement. "Well, I can see why that librarian kept you locked up for so long."
"Ah, hush up, this is gonna get good!" Flipso replied with a mouthful of popcorn as he watched the Gems gain the upper hand on the crab beast.
"Lapides, now!" Jasper commanded Lapis, Laz, and Zuli to restrain the massive crustacean with water chains. "Larimar, make sure she doesn't try and break out!"
"What can I do?" Desert Glass asked Jasper.
"I don't know, bury this thing or something!" Jasper yelled. As the Lapides and Larimar used their water and ice powers to keep the crab from moving, Desert Glass commanded the sand beneath her sandal-clad feet to slowly sink the crab into the ground before burying it beneath, making sure that it wouldn't break out and hurt anyone again. "It is over, finished."
"Wow, these Gems sure got a lot of moxie!" Flipso applauded Desert Glass's efforts as the other Gems cheered in celebration. "But, still, that was a little anticlimactic. I mean, what's stopping that thing from breaking out? We just gonna shove it into the sea or something?"
"Let's not bother ourselves for now." Black Rutile replied. "But right now, I think we could put your powers to good use."
--
Once the crab was dealt with, everything returned to normal as the Gems returned to their beach activities. Well, as normal as a beach day, being haunted by a chaotic spirit can get, anyways. Flipso haunted everyone's shadows, ogling some of the Gems in their swimsuits as he brainstormed ideas for his next plot.
"Hm, I have to say, these Gem babes don't look half bad." Flipso mused to himself. "But I wonder if they even talked about who was hotter? Ooh, delightfully devilish, Flipso! Yer old papa Jestrix would be proud!" With a snap of his fingers, Flipso brought forth a strange pink blob-like creature with a very dopey voice. "Hey, Spirit of Competition, my man! Glad you could come!"
"Uh, what do you need me for, Flipso?" the Spirit of Competition asked Flipso.
"Well, I gotta ask two things. First," Flipso summoned a crowbar and began beating the Spirit senseless with it. "WHERE'S MY MONEY, YOU STUPID WAD OF GUM?! YOU WANT ME TO START A HOTLINE FOR PEOPLE TO VOTE ON WHETHER I CAN KILL YOU OR NOT?!"
"I promise I'll get your money; just please leave me alone!" the Spirit of Competition wailed. "What else did you need me for?!"
"Glad you asked, sonny!" Flipso smiled before presenting the Spirit with all the beautiful women around them. "Behold, some very gorgeous gals! Just look at them, by gummity!"
"Yeah, they're hot!" the Spirit drooled amorously. "What do you want me to do?"
"Listen, I got a friend who needs to have the heat taken off her, and I summoned you to help distract these babes." Flipso stated. "Think you're up to the challenge? I'll give you some free mortal food out of this."
"Ooh yeah, I love making people challenge each other!" the Spirit of Competition exclaimed happily. "And I think I know just the thing to do!" With a determined look on its face, the Spirit leaped towards Emerald and began assimilating itself into her body to control her mind for a bit.
"Maybe you're right." Emerald admitted to Amazonite. "Maybe there is a good-minton." Then the Spirit began taking over her body, symbolized by her eyes turning a dark shade of pink and her gem taking on a slight pinkish glow. "But you know what else is good? This body!" She stood up and forced Amazonite to admire her muscles in her lime green bikini. "Look at this perfectly sculpted form! Gaze upon it, I say!"
"Emerald, are you okay?" Amazonite asked as she slowly backed away from the suddenly changed ex-pilot. "You seem a lot more overconfident than usual."
"Oh please, you're getting too cocky, Emerald." Pyrope challenged Emerald while flaunting her body in her tight pink one-piece. "I got soft curves for days here!"
"Geez, are we really starting a contest here?" Apatite smirked before showing off her red swimsuit. "Because we all know who the winner is here. That's right, ol' Shortstack herself!"
"Well, why don't we make it a contest?!" Albite exclaimed. "Most attractive Gem on the beach shall win…..uh….." She began thinking about what the prize should be. "I don't know, the undying respect and admiration of her opponents?"
"YEAH!" Tanzanite loudly agreed, followed by the other Gems, while the Crystal Gems watched gobsmacked at what was going on, and Black Rutile's smile widened with intrigue.
"So this is his idea of fun, exploiting beautiful women?" Black Rutile purred curiously. "His powers just get curiouser and curiouser."
--
As the beauty contest began with Zuli, Pyrope, Emerald, Garnet, Desert Glass, Apatite, Blue Pearl, and Cat's Eye as contestants, with Amethyst, Teal Zircon, and Yellow Pearl as judges, this gave Black Rutile the perfect opportunity to conduct her research in private while everyone was distracted.
"Rasputina, get over here!" Black Rutile called for the sorceress, who appeared before her dressed in a black bandeau bikini with a matching sunhat and sunglasses. "You've been waiting to join us on the beach, have you?"
"What gave it away?" Rasputina nonchalantly asked before sitting down next to Black Rutile. "What have you gathered on Flipso so far?"
"It seems that at the moment, Flipso can only conjure things into existence with a snap of his fingers." Black Rutile analyzed. "But if he were to restore his physical form, his abilities could cause the breakdown of all reality as we know it!"
"Exactly!" Flipso replied. "Also, how you doin'? Care for a little candlelight dinner later?"
"Get bent." Rasputina snarked at the god before looking at Black Rutile surfing Yatter. "So what's this supposed to be?"
"Some kind of right-wing human that Sally led me to." Black Rutile said. "Some guy named Reginald Johnson who leads an anti-Crystal Gem white supremacist group because he thinks they're 'toxic feminists' who will lead to humankind's destruction. Take a look at this." She clicked on a video of a stereotypical Southerner in a ten-gallon hat, a wifebeater covered in bandoliers, and a bushy beard sitting at a desk.
"Now you may be wondering, how could I hate a group of people I've never met who probably don't know I exist?!" Reginald Johnson ranted on the video. "Well, I don't like what they're putting in the Earth that turns the freaking rocks gay! Do you understand that?! They're no better than those mentally ill preschoolers who think they're fighting climate change or everyone who says I can't have a crush on this fictional candy mascot!"
As Reginald continued, Black Rutile, Flipso, and Rasputina were just about to start laughing. "Well then, whose bright idea was it to depict the candy as a beautiful woman, huh?! The world is a cruel parent but an effective teacher too. Its final lesson is carved deep into our psyches: that the world, and all its people, are diseased! Free will is a joke because we'll all soon become nothing more than mindless puppets for the minorities of this world!"
"Okay, I think that's enough racism for today." Flipso muttered before shutting off the video. "This guy has potential! It's a wonder that Sally babe has so much interest in him; they're almost alike!"
"That's not untrue." Rasputina nodded in reply. "They are both openly prejudiced against the norm, but Reginald is a stereotypical right-winger while Sally is just an opinionated cynic."
--
"Okay, this is becoming a little unorthodox." Pearl commented as she watched the beauty contest continue. "First the crab monster, and now this? What's the meaning of this?"
"Shall we get to the bottom of this?" Peridot suggested. "I think Black Rutile might have something to do with everything happening today."
"I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case." Pearl agreed. "Hello, Black Rutile? Can you come over here, please?"
"Oh no, they're onto us!" Flipso animatedly chattered his teeth in fright. "What do we do? What do we do?!"
"You're the reality-warping horror beyond man's comprehension; you do something!" Black Rutile exclaimed, shaking the creature by its shoulders and forcing him away.
"Okay, if I were a Gem, what could possibly distract me?" Flipso began thinking of another plan while looking towards the Spirit of Competition, still attaching itself to Emerald like a symbiote. "Hey, Compy! Give me a lift here!"
"Sorry, I'm in the middle of something. Be there in a bit!" the Spirit of Competition said before making Emerald strike some model poses for the audience. "Whoo, work it, baby!"
"Well, looks like I'm in a rut here." Flipso proclaimed in defeat when he noticed Pearl making her way through the contestants searching for Black Rutile. "Indiana Jones, I hope you're watching!"
With a snap of Flipso's fingers, the judges turned their gaze to Pearl and made their decision. "And the winner is Pearl!" Amethyst exclaimed. "Wait, what?"
"I'm the winner?" Pearl gasped in shock just as Black Rutile scurried away.
"She's the winner, I guess." Yellow Pearl added.
"More like I'm the winner!" Flipso laughed victoriously as everyone slowly agreed that Pearl was a last-minute shoo-in.
"I mean, Pearl certainly is very cute." Blue Pearl realized, making the other Pearl blush. "She deserved to win."
"I'll allow it!" Emerald remarked in defeat before walking away.
"Congratulations, Pearl." Garnet said while giving Pearl a hearty pat on the shoulder. "I didn't know you had it in you."
"I swear, Black Rutile is up to something, and this contest was a part of it!" Pearl exclaimed.
"Pearl, Black Rutile is up to a lot of things." Bismuth replied. "You need to be more specific."
--
Soon, the sun began to set on Beach City, meaning it was almost time for everyone to go home. However, everybody was hesitant to leave so soon, so to counter this, Garnet got the idea of starting a bonfire to end the day.
"There, nice and toasty." Garnet said as the Gems gathered around the fire.
"Yes, this isn't half bad." Morganite agreed with Garnet while putting her hands out towards the flame. "It's just nice to have some time to relax once in a while."
"So, anything else we should do before we leave?" Snowflake Obsidian asked.
"Ooh, let's tell each other scary stories!" Bixbite suggested.
"Been there, done that." Dumortierite said.
"Anyone else got an idea?" Tiger’s Eye added.
"I feel like roasting the heart, lungs, and liver of a sheep boiled in its own stomach over the fire." Teal stated, much to the disgust of everyone else.
"Delicious!" Larimar agreed with Teal, grossing everybody out even more.
"Weirdos." Squaridot muttered.
"We could sing songs together." Topaz made her own suggestion.
"Great idea Topaz and I know just the one!" Pearl exclaimed before she pulled Steven's ukulele from her gem and started to play. "Isn't this such a beautiful night? Whoa, we're underneath a thousand shining stars. Isn't it nice to find yourself somewhere different? Whoa, why don't you let yourself just be wherever you are?"
Black Rutile rolled her eyes not too far from the bonfire as the song continued. "Look at this place; look at your faces. I've never seen you look like this before. Isn't it nice to find yourself somewhere different? Whoa, why don't you let yourself just be wherever you are?"
"Aw, look at the adorable mom friend." Flipso smirked at Pearl's performance while the Gems began clapping along. "Too bad I'm gonna have to obliterate her soon."
"You got that right." Black Rutile proclaimed.
"Look at this place; look at your faces. They're shining like a thousand shining stars. Isn't it nice to find yourself somewhere different? Whoa, why don't you let yourself just be wherever you are?" Pearl continued singing into the night. "Why don't you let yourself just be somewhere different? Whoa, why don't you let yourself just be whoever you are?"
--
Aw, that was a pretty wholesome ending and a much-needed breather from all the drama of last chapter. But don't think we'll be devolving into quote-unquote "filler episodes" when we only have six to seven chapters left of story to go through! I mean, some mix of Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, and Will Harangue has caught the attention of Black Rutile, in addition to the unholy love child of Lily Orchard and Mindy Kaling's Velma already on her side! What could possibly come from three sociopaths coming together? Well, we'll just have to find out soon because in the meantime, Holly Blue takes the spotlight as the Famethyst visit Little Homeworld. Given how I've been tormenting Holly her entire stay here, this should be fun.

Jennifer yawned for what must’ve been the hundred times that night. “Thanks for walking me home, Mattie.” She said, softly. Sleep thick in her tone.
Mat tried his best not to wonder if that’s what she sounded like first thing in the morning. It was a dangerous line of thought that would lead to him thinking about sleeping with her. Not even in the sexual sense, but, waking up to her sleeping face resting across from him. Her bed head would be adorable along with her voice as he could see her begging for a few more minutes of sleep.
He does his best to keep his face from warming at the thought. Ever since he’s realized his feelings for her, it was harder to ignore these thoughts.
“Hello~ Earth to Mattie.” She practically sings as she pokes his cheek. “Are you sleepwalking?” She then giggles at her own joke. He wishes she knew what that does to him. The way it makes his heart leap, but then he’d have to confess, and he isn’t sure if he could handle her rejection.
“No, I was just thinking.” He said evenly. Thank god, he had learned to hide his emotions well.
“What about? You seem… troubled.” She then fixes him with a worried expression, that he wishes he could kiss away. The way she purses her lips always seemed so enticing, and her lip gloss definitely wasn’t helping his will.
He just shakes his head. One part in an effort to shake those thoughts out of his head, and another to answer her.
“Just surprised your brother is letting me walk you home, is all.” He lies.
“Well, you know how he feels about Janne. Plus, he brought Grey along, and with the way they were looking at each other tonight…” She lets that hang in the air for a moment. “Don’t think I could keep my best friend title if I cock blocked him, y’know?”
He just gives her a small smile at that. “I guess so.”
Part of him still can’t believe they're friends, let alone best friends. He’s known Janne for years, and he’s never seen him bother to get close to anyone. Now he was making friends and in a committed relationship. Then again, he never envisioned himself falling in love either. With a half mortal, out of all things.
“He would forgive you anyway.” He said.
She just smiles back at him. “He has to. I’m his best friend, after all.” He then hears her adorable giggle once again.
They fall into a comfortable silence from there. Soon enough, they were in the elevator, and she yawns once again and rests her head on his shoulder. He smiles as he looks down at her. He wishes he could kiss the top of her head but, instead, he settles for gently rubbing her back.
“I’m surprised you’ve stayed awake.” He said, honestly. She’s been fighting sleep for a while now. Part of him hopped he would get the chance to carry her tonight.
“Me too.” She admits.
He walks her to her door and right as he was about to wish her goodnight, she speaks up first.
“Hey, um…” Jennifer said quietly, a light blush then dusted her cheeks.
He would engrave this image into his mind and catalog it with every other moment he’s seen her blush. It was hard to find the words to express how cute she looked whenever she looked up at him, her cheeks a light pink. He wants this expression reserved for him alone.
“What is it?” He’s surprised that his voice comes out normal.
“Can you um… help me with something?”
He hesitates for a moment. Was she? No. She definitely wasn’t he quickly decides.
“Sure.” He nods.
She seemed relived at that, and he’s glad he chose to say yes. She holds his hand as she unlocks her door and lets him inside. He doesn’t get much of a chance to survey her living space, as the lights are still off.
“This is a bit embarrassing, but um, I need your help to undress.”
He’s pretty sure his heart stopped. Or wait, maybe this was all a dream. Before he can really spiral, she interrupts him.
“N-Not like that! I just can’t reach the latch on my dress.” She then turns around.
Her hair was in its natural state tonight, exposing more of her nape than usual. He knows he should be looking at her back, but, the urge to kiss her neck suddenly hits him. He then averts his eyes by trailing down her back. Being alone with her in a dark room, after being asked to undress her. He’s ashamed to admit this is going to be a fantasy of his from now on.
His curses himself as his hands start to shake. Still, he obliges and gently grabs the back of her dress. It was in a spot he could see how it would be a bit awkward for her to try and attempt on her own. Then, without really thinking, he pulls down on the zipper. As more of her back becomes exposed to him, he takes note of how she isn’t wearing a bra. He then pulls his hand back as if the zipper burned him.
The worst of it is when she finally turned around. One hand holding the top of her dress in place.
“Thank you so much, Mattie! It was going to be really tricky to do that on my own.” She smiles oh so innocently.
Her other hand gently touches his arm, and she gets on her tip toes to kiss his cheek.
He feels bad about the way he wishes he could just pin her against the wall and take her right there.
“Goodnight. I’ll see you around.” She said, and he understands that it’s his cue to leave.
“Goodnight.” He pats her on the top of her head, wishing he was brave enough to kiss her instead. He then turns around and leaves.
Once outside, he takes a moment to lean against the back of the door and catch his breath. He’s eternally grateful she didn’t go for a hug instead. His mind wouldn’t be able to get over the information she wasn’t wearing a bra and her dress was already halfway unzipped. If he tried to wrap his arms around her, he would be touching her exposed skin.
He then quickly makes his way home, even if just so he can replay how he wishes the chain of events went down with his own hand. Thinking about the way she might’ve touched him.

PINNED POST.
This is an independent, primarily comic-focused, multimuse with some additional fandoms included. The activity here will be sporadic and somewhat low. I tend to vanish for periods of time, and then return once I find the mood for it. The easiest way to start interacting with me is by sending a meme, due to the fact that I rarely post starter calls. If you click the read more page, you will find a mobile-friendly muse list. You're always welcome to hit me up or send me a message if you should have any questions or would like to plot something. I can't wait to write with you!

scary movie inspired plots because ~spooky season~
beetlejuice; muse a is a ghostly con artist from another realm. constantly trying to be a physical entity on the mortal world, they lay in wait for someone to finally summon them so they can cause some trouble. muse b is a newcomer to town, a little odd, and regarded warily by others upon discovering they’ve moved into the home of two recently deceased residents. but it doesn’t bother muse b, they like being strange and unusual and prefer not being bothered by others. muse a, having taken ghostly residency in muse b’s home, finds a way to communicate with them and tricks muse b into summoning them. with muse a now in the mortal world, they begin causing havoc in town. and while muse a could easily get rid of muse b, now that they’ve gotten what they wanted, they end up taking a liking to them and keep them around to watch the chaos they inflict.
halloween; as a teen, muse a witnessed the murders of their family members at the hand of their younger sibling. now in the present, muse a is a loner that’s on the constant move to get away from the reminders of their past. having just moved to a new town, muse a tries to go about their usual business--find a low stakes job, keep their head down, and not have anyone find out about their past. muse b is their neighbor or new coworker that’s decided to take a vetted interest in muse a for one reason or another and tries to start up a friendship with them. reluctantly and surprisingly, muse a ends up befriending muse b after years of being on their own. and for once, muse a thinks that maybe their life can be normal like everyone else’s. or at least they think so until news reports of their sibling having escaped and slowly deaths start occurring.
happy death day; muse a is in an never-ending loop that ends with their eventual murder at some point in the day. unsure how to solve it, they enlist the help of muse b--the stranger that they keep waking up to with every restart of the same day. not entirely convinced by muse a’s words, they tell them they should use the time loop to figure out who’s killing them to try and stop it. having to convince muse b every time the day starts over, the pair slowly begin trying to figure out who exactly is after muse a and why they’re stuck repeating the day over and over again.
jennifer’s body; muse a and muse b have been best friends forever even though they seem to have nothing in common. after muse a is falsely sacrificed as a virgin for some up-and-coming band, they’re suddenly brought back to life and possessed by some other-worldly creature that can only be satisfied with the consumption of human flesh. muse b seems to be the only person to have figured out what is happening and tries to do something about it to help muse a. but instead of the movie’s ending of muse b stopping/killing muse a, cue to sexual awakenings, muse b wanting to help muse a stay alive and/or helping muse a commit their heinous acts, and them being just dangerous girlfriends together that get rid of scummy dudes.
labyrinth; muse a rules over a goblin kingdom in another realm. they are constantly in search of their long, lost love to rule over the kingdom with them. muse b lives a mundane and frustrating life with their horrible family/significant other (either or, muse c). with only fantasy books to keep them preoccupied, they one day make a wish for the goblin king/queen to take muse c away so they can finally be happy. muse a, hearing their wish, does just that, thinking this will make muse b happy. instead muse b is horrified and wants them back. a now upset muse a decides they will comply only if muse b is able to complete their inane challenge of finding their way through the giant and complex maze to get to their castle and rescue muse c. the catch? if muse b is unable to do so in a given amount of time, muse c will be turned into a goblin and muse b would be forced to stay and rule in muse a’s kingdom beside them.
let the right one in; muse a is unhappy. living in a crappy apartment with a shitty job, they try to make ends meet even though the world seems to be against them. it’s left muse a feeling resentful towards the rest of the world and wishing they could do something to exact revenge on the people that make their life difficult. one night, muse a stumbles upon muse b (a new neighbor) in front of their apartment complex. after a little awkward conversation, muse b immediately tells muse a they can’t be friends. perturbed and confused, muse a can’t help but find their new neighbor odd yet interesting; and despite the initial comment, the pair do form an unlikely friendship. muse a begins noticing unusual things about muse b--a metallic smell, noticing they never ate with them, never being out in the sun--but it’s all chalked up with some “logical” excuse. but when residents around town begin showing up dead with their blood drained, muse a can’t help but wonder if their new friend does have something to do with it.
red riding hood; muse a and muse b live in a town near the woods that is plagued by a werewolf. muse a comes from a respectable family but has been having financial problems. muse b is a woodcutter and has been muse a’s friend since childhood. muse a is in love with muse b and wants to be with them, but their family has arranged for them to marry another--muse c who comes from a well-off family. muse a and muse b plan on running away to elope, but their plans fall through when they learn the wolf has broken its truce and killed someone in town--someone related to muse a. as tensions run high, the town begins to try and find the identity of the werewolf so they can rid their town of the threat. not wanting to leave until they find their family member’s killer, they enlist muse b’s help to find the wolf before running away together.
scream; as teenagers, muse a, muse b, and muse c were sole survivors in their friend group after a string of murders occurred in their small town. even with the killer safely gone, the remaining friends weren’t ever the same. muse a left their town as soon as they could, never looking back and trying to keep the tragedy a part of their past. muse b utilized the tragedy to kickstart a career for themselves in television and print. unable to cope with it all, muse c went down a dark path and remained in town. now ten years has passed and the murders are being brought up again through a special documentary set in town that muse b is directing. not wanting anything to do with it or to head back to their childhood town, muse a refuses and nothing muse a says can get them to change muse b’s mind. or at least until news of muse c dying reaches them do they decide to go back–if only to attend their late-friend’s funeral. but upon the muses’ arrival to town they find out that there’s some questions regarding how muse c died and that the their long ago tragedy may be repeating all over again.

ADBK: Spirit Ryu
Tumblr media
Epithet: The Shapeshifting Spirit of the Republic
Voice Actor: Jennifer Hale
Tribe: The Dragon Republic
Biography: Spirit Ryu is a rather unusual case as far as backstories are concerned; she is the reincarnated ghost of the Maiden with Eyes of Blue, waiting to be fully returned to full mortality by a strong enough magic-user.
She is treated like a little sister to Blue-Eyes White Dragon because of this, and she proved invaluable due to her strengths including getting stronger around allied Dragons.
She even helped birth some Tribesmen across the Duelscape; most notably a brief affair with Crawling Dragon the Flesh-Slurper to create Two-Headed King Rex, and the birth of the son of Gladiator Beast Retiari named Secutor.

miscellanous quote inspo for ocs
pulled from various books, poetry, etc. normally I like to fit these at the start of fics but they don't always have a neat place. includes the quotes at the top of their fics on ao3
idk what's going on with the formatting, random letters keep randomly making themselves bigger no matter how many times I edit lmao
azul:
“Because the air had smelled so sweet, and the sky had been black velvet, spangled with points of diamond light that didn’t flicker at all, only burned constant and cold. Because the grass had been wet with dew, and the trees had been heavy with fruit. Because she had wanted to know what was at the end of the long path between the trees, and because she hadn’t wanted to turn back before she understood everything. Because for the first time in forever, she’d felt like she was going home, and that feeling had been enough to move her feet, slowly at first, and then faster, and faster, until she had been running through the clean night air, and nothing else had mattered, or would ever matter again—” — Seanan Mcguire, Every Heart a Doorway
"I'm on the cliff of myself & these aren't wings, they're futures." — Time is a Mother, Ocean Vuong
cadiana:
"I did not know how to deal with this sort of death, the one that comes slow and inevitable and does not let go. I am a solider, I deal in cannonballs and rifle shots. I understand how a wound can fester and kill a soldier, but there is still the initial wound, something that can be avoided with a little skill and a great deal of luck. Death that simply comes and settles is not a thing I had any experience with." — T. Kingfisher, What Moves the Dead
“'Everyone goes to the war together—but we come back separately shattered. If you see what I mean.'” — Olivia Waite, Hen Fever
"Most species bare their teeth as a threat, as a display of aggression, of leadership. It is a reminder that these clenched jaws can and will open your yielding throat. I want you to think of this next time I smile." — Unknown
cihro:
"The truth is: I want to hold your hands because they are like mine. Holding a knife
by the blade and sharpening it. In your dreams, how much invitation to pierce are you? Perhapslove, the truth is: I am afraid
we are both knives, both stones, both scarred. Or we will be." — Nicole Homer, Underbelly
"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies. And whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first, they must catch you." — Richard Adams, Watership Down
“Did he really splinter bone, was infection festering there, what was the secret injury down at the heart of him? There are only simple answers to a knife.” — Kathryn Harlan, Fruiting Bodies
crow:
"The pursuit of knowledge always seemed to have a price, and in stepping away from the academia I'd recreated the same circumstances in the private sector. The lesser of two evils was still evil." — In the Roses of Pieria, Anna Burke
“How quickly you come to a willingness to kill, and how quickly your lover will believe it of you. There are so many ways to find out what you will do when there is no one else to help you.” — Kathryn Harlan, Fruiting Bodies
“Never mind the book teaching me that the shadows inside need not be snuffed but treasured—that darkness existed to hide riches from ordinary mortals unable to handle their brilliance, and if I mustered the courage to dive into those veiled depths, these riches could become mine.” — Jade Song, Chlorine
“Power was sweeter than apples. It was cheaper than water, and sustained the soul twice as well. If Johann was going to be a Thing with a name, then from now on he would be a Thing with power, too.” ― Jennifer Giesbrecht, The Monster of Elendhaven
“'Deep forests always invite strangeness, whether real or imagined.'” — Samantha Shannon, A Day of Fallen Night
“But he is my King, and I am his Devil. I have given him my blood, my youth, my love, my good right hand; who am I now to begrudge him my death?” — Alix E. Harrow, Six Deaths of the Saint
iona:
“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.” — Vincent Van Gogh
"'War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.'" — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers
"'He might be the very picture of lambkin,' Ead said, 'but monsters often have soft faces. They know how to mask themselves.' She looked them both in the eye. 'We will watch her. We will listen well. Remember why we wear blades as well as jewels.'" — Samantha Shannon, The Priory of the Orange Tree
surina:
"I do not know how to tell this story, and the pieces cut me as I reassemble them." — Anna Burke, In the Roses of Pieria
“The power of this weapon, any weapon, comes from here [heart], but only when tempered by this [head], by the discipline, the self control of the one who wields it.” — Kratos, God of War 4
"Who would go promised nothing but ice? Who would cut her home to pieces and row away for that?" — Maggie Smith, You Could Never Take A Car to Greenland
“'Alas, that these evil days should be mine. The young perish and the old linger. That I should live to see the last days of my house. No parent should have to bury their child.'” — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers
genevieve:
"When it's your own child, love is a dark animal, is exploding. Live forever, live forever, this love pleads. But this love knows that we were born to be wrenched apart by death. This love is not a heart shape. There's no pleasure in it. This love can quickly turn to rage. It sharpens into a weapon that is out of our control." — Madeline Ffitch, Stay and Fight
"That's the whole point of a curse, isn't it? You are doomed to live with it." — Victor LaValle, Lone Women
"'Without her, I am having to learn new ways to live. I imagine you have these moments, too, when you trip on the spaces Kanifa filled.'" — Samantha Shannon, A Day of Fallen Night

"And the monster? Who is she? She is what happens when someone cannot be saved." — Natalie Haynes, Stone Blind
"What would it be like to have yourself stripped away in layers? Memory and pleasure, thought and self-knowledge. Love. She didn't know the weight of the poetry when she won it." — Kathryn Harlan, Fruiting Bodies
union:
“What now? I am out with lanterns, looking for myself. But here’s the thing about carrying light with you: No matter where you go, and no matter what you find—or don’t find—you change the darkness just by entering it. You clear a path through it.” — Maggie Smith, You Could Make This Place Beautiful
“Love, love, love, it was the core of my life, from which, of course, comes the word for the heart. And, oh, have I mentioned that some of them were men and some were women and some—now carry my revelation with you— were trees. Or places. Or music flying above the names of their makers. Or clouds, or the sun which was the first, and the best, the most loyal for certain, who looked so faithfully into my eyes, every morning. So I imagine such love of the world—its fervency, its shining, its innocence and hunger to give of itself—I imagine this is how it began.” — Of Love, Mary Oliver
vierna:
“Violence. This was violence. It had always been violence, no matter how far removed the poison had made her, no matter how easy it was to deny the connection when blood hadn't been cooling on her hands. It had been death, wicked death, shameful death—but she had never named it violence, before.” — Caitlin Starling, Yellow Jessamine
"I carried my fear of the world and apprenticed myself to the fear.
I carried my fear of the world and it became my teacher. I carried it, and it repaid me by teaching me how to carry it.
I carried my fear of the world the way an animal carries a kill in its jaws but in reverse: I was the kill, the gift. Whose feet would I be left at?
I carried my fear of the world as if it could protect me from the world." — What I Carried, Maggie Smith
