the unknown.
for the past four years, i have tried to have a baby.
but let me start further back than that. when she was 17, my sister had a baby. my family lamented, gnashed their teeth, tut-tutted, shook their heads. she ruined her life, they said. she hadn't even graduated high school, they asked: what would become of her now?
well, i'll tell you what become of her: a wonderful mother to two - now grown - incredible humans. one of the strongest people i know. a woman with an endless desire to care for and nourish others. i still cannot wrap my head around her bravery as a teenager, looking at the future ahead of her, knowing entirely what she wanted, ignoring the naysayers and barreling into the unknown. her decisiveness is something i've always admired.
at that time (i was 12), i was horrified to think of childbirth. to be honest, i still am. the idea never sat right with me - giving up my body to the chaos of it all, potentially dying, the potential for unbearable loss, the pain, the absolute uncertainty. it was something i never ever thought i wanted to endure - impacted somewhat by seeing the response of my family to my sister's young pregnancy - but also wholly a notion and feeling of my own. when i was the same age my sister was when she got pregnant, i asked a doctor about getting my tubes tied (of course, they wouldn't do it. i wasn't old enough to make those kinds of decisions, they said).
so i spent the majority of my young adulthood fairly certain that i would never get married (that's another story for another time) and absolutely, soul certain that i would never have a baby. that was not the path for me. absolutely not. no fucking way.
but then i met my husband. i have have grown older with him, 5 years of dating and then marriage, and now 10 years of that. the most wonderful man i have ever known. someone so nurturing and so kind... his compassion and care for others consistently knocking me back. someone who would make an unbelievably wonderful father, coupled with my own growth, aging, entering my thirties... that biological clock just tick tick ticking away. so we tried. to my own surprise, we were trying. casually. just to see. a toe dipped into the unknown future ahead of us.
and you assume (if you've ever spent the majority of your life using various methods of birth control to avoid a "mistake") that it will just happen. but so often it doesn't. a year passed, then we entered a pandemic and we stopped trying because, wow, how do you try to bring a human into the world when the world is falling apart all around you? but things eased somewhat and we tried again. then I went to the doctor - had horrible painful xrays, ultrasounds, blood tests that made me nearly pass out. it was the blood test that said it: you waited too long, maybe, or you just didn't have what was needed from the start.
so you see. there's a thing about stepping into the unknown, no matter how casually. you can't just close your eyes and jump blind (well, maybe you can, but i certainly can't). in the darkness i needed to imagine at least the vague shape of the next thing to stand on. what would it look like? how would i manage? i pictured myself in this new reality, rolled it around on my tongue to get a feel for it. and in the imagining, without even realizing it, it felt like the only place left to stand.
our casualness, before i knew it, soon became very serious. options were weighed, pros were considered and cons were proven. what would it take? tens of thousands of dollars, medical intervention, going to another country to afford said medical intervention, what was i thinking? all for this thing that i had spent the majority of my life trying to avoid at all costs? my mind felt like it was not my own, my longing became despair, my thoughts a laundry list of future regrets and past mistakes. i needed this, i needed to jump into this unknown. it became all consuming.
it became a sort of fantasy: the person i would be on the other side, all new and shiny and chrome. obliteration of the self, rebuilding as something different, with a distinct purpose, a compass. a mother. i didn't fear the chaos any longer, i craved it.
i paused.
i slowed. i am slowing. i am remembering who i was when i took that tiny tip toe into the darkness of the unknown those four years ago. i saw a paths spread out in front of me then, beautiful paths full of possibility, love, tenderness, family, growth. but then suddenly that one path became brighter than the rest and i started to forget there were ever any other options.
but in the slowing the other paths have come back into focus. my life, my wonderful life, with my husband, with my dog. our plans and our dreams. the things i wanted and longed for before this new unknown presented itself to me. that the feeling of lack was a lie, because i have so, so much.
i have realised that what i was wanting was a path that was set for me, something to anchor me and tell me what to be next, on the cusp of my 40th year on this planet. no turning back. the absolutism of giving myself over to something out of my control. and there is nothing wrong with that... but it is perhaps not the best reason to bring a new life into the world.
so i have paused once again. talking with my love, support from my friends, countless hours sitting and thinking harder than i've maybe thought in my entire life. and realising my reasoning for longing so deeply has more to do with my own internal self and uncertainty than with anything else, and that i don't actually have to do this. that i can let it go, and find my own path without the anchor and absolutism. and my god, it felt so freeing. i felt this weight lift off my shoulders, and saw a new unknown present itself to me, less like a darkness and more like a blossom.
i don't know what the future looks like exactly. but i know i feel such a relief to let go and let it be what it will be. there is no loss - only love - and a new wild, beautiful unknown.
thank you for reading.

Lessons From Dad
Today we set out to enjoy a beach day while on vacation at the river. The forecast called for rain at Atlantic Beach until 12 or 1, then cloudy for the afternoon. Determined to get just *ONE* day at the beach before heading back to work, I said "let's just do it. If the rain doesn't stop, we can just go to the aquarium". Halfway there, the rain was coming down fast and hard. Passing through Newport, I thought to myself "do we just need to turn around and go home? This isn't looking good." You know that saying "a rainy day at the beach is better than a sunny day at work"? Nope, I totally disagree. I'd much rather work in the sunshine than be at the beach in the rain. But at that moment, I flashed back to my teenage years, sitting in the back seat of the station wagon as our family traveled to Emerald Isle for one of our typical day trips during the summer. We only lived 90 minutes from the beach, so this was a regular occurrence and one I always looked forward to. Sometimes it would start to sprinkle and even pour on the drive there. I and whichever siblings were along for the ride would start our bellyachin'..."let's just go home! It's raining! It's gonna be nasty at the beach" etc. But Dad, the eternal optimist would retort "Now listen, this is just a little summer shower. It's probably sunny at the beach!" In all those years of daytrips to the beach, I don't remember a single time that we got rained out. So today, I heard his words and felt his optimism and it paid off. We waited out the rain under a picnic shelter at Fort Macon State Park, and it quickly dissipated, making way for an absolutely perfect day. There was a soothing sea breeze, cloud cover to tame the sun's scorching heat, and the water was amazingly calm with gently rolling waves, but big enough to catch with a boogie board or just bob over/through. While lazing in my chair, I watched a man showing his youngsters how to "catch a wave" with his body (bodysurfing). I immediately flashed back to that day in July 1987, one month before I was leaving home to begin my freshman year at NC State University. On that day, my family was at Emerald Isle on one of our typical daytrips, hanging out near the Bogue Inlet Pier as Mom always liked, to make it easier to find her as we came out of the water. Dad LOVED to bodysurf. He also had incredible lung capacity, so much so, that whenever he had to have lung xrays, it took 2 pictures to image both his lungs! And he LOVED to do the "dead man's float", meaning after he caught a wave, he would coast face-down, arms outstretched in front of him, until his body literally washed up on the shore. Us kids couldn't believe he could hold his breath that long. On this particular day, Dad caught a doozy of a wave. One with such power that he was not able to get his arms out in front of him and basically dumped him on his face. He did the dead man's float all the way to shore, but he didn't move when he "landed". My younger brother Brandon recognized something was badly wrong and pulled him out of the water. The details are foggy, but I remember Dad lying on his back (maybe Brandon rolled him over?) and Mom standing over him saying "honey, are you ok?" to which he responded "Doll, (short for Dolly, his pet name for her) I think I broke my neck." He could not move from his neck down, but had lung function. Miraculously, his incredible lung capacity had saved his life as he held his breath and prayed "Lord, I hope I'm ready, because I think this is it". He had suffered a C3-C7 spinal cord "bruising" which he mostly recovered from over the next 3-4 months, leaving him with a slight limp. As I watched the man today catch a wave or 2, I found myself unable to look in his direction any longer, as the memory of that fateful day in 1987 had overwhelmed me. I still love the beach, and even played in the water today, diving into the waves, jumping over them, and just floating in the calm between each swell, but the impact of watching Dad push through his recovery will always be a reminder of his amazing determination and optimism.

Hello you Mrs. allergic to pine tree so now she is sneezing and probably a dying eyebag 😅
That's horrible though, are you just taking allergy meds and suffer through it? Besides the wheezing, how was your day?
My day was okay, went out to get some stuff for the new place, and now just relaxing while watching anime. I love the smell of fresh baked cookies. I may go out again tomorrow to get some, Christmas time always puts me in the mood to bake lol
Ah I see. So do you think you think you guys will move again in the future? Nice, how many magnets do you guys have now?
Yeah, my uncle lives in LA and I want to visit him just so I can also scope out places that she might hang out at. I told him, that if he ever sees her, to get an autograph for me, and he goes, who is that.
I was at the store and was looking at the wrong kind of chocolate! I did find the Lindt Lindor one, in a mix container with the red and yellow and blue. Hahahaha but then again I was at World Cost Plus Market. I found the chocolate I want you to try, but I don't know how to add a picture on here. 🤔 I love Ferrero rocher too, but the original one.
You've probably heard this one. A man walks into a zoo, the only animal he sees in the entire zoo is a dog. Its a shitzu. 🤣🤣🤣
Would you rather have xray vision or have the power to be invisible?
-CuriousGeorge

Broken Wings pt2.
Tumblr media
A/N: Ya’ll thanks so much for the positive reaction to my first drabble! A few of you asked me to continue it so I think I’ll make this a little bit of an ongoing thing. Enjoy! Also, I’m doing this all from my phone, so I can’t do page breaks. Apologies to anyone just scrolling by!
Summary: After breaking one of his wings, Hawks breaks into an animal clinic for some help. Little does he know that the doctor there would occupy his mind this much.
For some reason, this had been the longest week in your career. Your techs noticed that you were a little bit distracted in the moments of downtime between patients. But they knew better than to pry into your personal business, history proved that you had a very solid separation between work and real life. You never mixed business with pleasure and it made you a better doctor, in your opinion. It helped you focus more intently on your patients and their care.
That being said, even the most complicated cases couldn’t stop your mind from wandering back to the winged hero who essentially broke into your clinic for a broken wing. You wondered if he was taking your advice by resting his wings and his body. However given that he was the number 2 hero, you knew that probably wasn’t very likely.
After the last surgery of the day was finished, and the last client was out the door, you and your technicians cleaned up the clinic so they could all go home. First to arrive last to leave, today was no different. But today you showed up early just in case Hawks-...Keigo.. decided to drop by before you opened for a check-up. And when he didn’t, you were frustrated with disappointment you felt. You remained hopeful that he would appear tonight.
By the second hour after closing and no sign of the pro hero, you felt your heart hanging in your stomach. So with a heavy sigh, you started checking hospitalized patients to make sure they had what they needed and turning off lights. Though just as you had given up and opened the side door to leave, you were greeted with a full vision of giant wings.
He was there.
“Keigo!” You yelped out in excitement, the smile on your face illuminated the space between you.
“Hey Doc.” His voice drawled, smirking. He liked how happy you looked to see him. It made his heart flutter in a funny way. “Miss me?”
“Maybe. Come inside, we’ll get you checked out.” You retreated back into the clinic and he brushed past you. The discouragement you felt earlier faded away with every passing second and was replaced with pure joy.
Keigo followed you into exam and leaned onto the counter, sharp eyes trained on you with a bright intensity. You weren’t able to put your finger on how it made you feel when his gaze was headstrong on you. Nervous? Excited?
“So, how are you feeling? Any pain or numbness?” Right to business. He admired that about you. Instead of fawning over him and tripping over your words, you were calm and composed. At least, that’s what you wanted him to think. Inside, you were in chaos.
“Ehh...not really. It’s sore but that’s about it.” The wing in mention shifted slightly. You noticed that the splint you had placed was in really good condition. Save for a few rubbed spots where you assumed he was trying to scratch. That meant he was resting, taking your advice in stride.
“You know, there’s no secret cameras or microphones here. You don’t have to pretend.” He froze in place, his expression stilled with shock. Keigo hadn’t realized he was being that transparent. But honestly, it was easy to see. The bags under his eyes indicated he wasn’t sleeping well. Or at all. You waited for a response. This wasn’t uncommon. Pet parents lied all the time to make it seem like they weren’t making any mistakes when their animal was sick. But honesty helped you help them. And eventually, they would always relent.
“Damn, it’s that obvious huh?”
“Oh yeah. So, spill it.” Your hands slowly reached for the wing to get a feel of the splint. It needed a few adjustments which could be easily done.
“It uh...aches. And it’s really dull and ongoing. But it goes away. I can handle it.” Nodding along to his explanation you fished into a drawer beside him for scissors, another roll of tape, and a few pads of gauze.
“I can write you a script to fill at a pharmacy for some relief. And don’t think of telling me no. Is the pain ever sharp?” He nodded quietly.
“Is that bad?” You gingerly removed the tape and padding from the existing splint, making sure to not pull on his feathers or apply unnecessary pressure to the break.
“No, so long as it doesn’t keep up and you don’t have any fevers or anything like that. If you don’t care, I want to get another xray to see where we’re at as far as healing goes.”
The hero grinned, looking so smug and you didn’t know why. He leaned in close, his nose only a few inches away from yours. From this short distance you could really see how rich the golden color of his eyes were, just like an actual hawk. However, the stare she was getting wasn’t from just any bird. It was from this handsome, charming pro hero who make your insides squirm.
“If you wanted me to take off my shirt all you had to do was ask.” The redness came to your face in a rush and you suddenly felt hot. The sound of his chuckling only made your heart race and palms sweat.
“I-I-...it’s just easier-...we don’t have to-...”
“Relax, I’m kidding~” You sighed as he removed his jacket followed by the top of his hero uniform. His skin was significantly less bruised, you noticed. The cuts and abrasions were healing very well. However, in taking in the state of his wounds, you didn’t realize that you were staring.
Keigo’s physique was so clean and cut that you couldn’t help but wonder how his skin felt beneath your palms. What the heat of his body felt like. Eventually, you became aware of your unwavering stare and cleared your throat to break the awkward silence.
Several moments and a few xrays later...
“Okay, so everything is starting to bond the way it should. See the humerus here?” Your finger pointed to the bone with a jagged fusion starting. He nodded to indicate he understood. “It’s still pretty unstable so will need to remain splinted. But that’s normal for a break like this.”
Shouldering his jacket and slipping his arms into the sleeves, he popped the collar back up into place before sighing.
“Right, still grounded.” The tone of his voice seemed sad but you were understanding of why. For someone with as little freedom as Keigo, denying the one thing that made him feel liberated felt like a punishment.
“I’m sorry, Keigo. But you’re doing great so far. I’m really happy with the progress I’m seeing.”
The process of resplinting his wing was painful, but not as bad as it was the week before. You made sure to layer the gauze carefully so the bones would be cushioned and safe. Keigo admired how gentle your hands were, how soft your palms felt against his sensitive feathers. It took a lot of effort to remain composed around you. But as soon as you were done and your hands left him, he was left with a lingering sense of longing.
The hero followed you out and into your office where you sat down in the old chair that had been there almost as long as you’d been alive. He looked around and noticed all the pictures and belongings that decorated the walls and shelves. Honing in on one photo in the middle of the wall of a little girl holding what appeared to be a newborn foal, he looked back at you.
“Is this you?”
“Hm? Oh. Yeah. That was the first foal I ever helped my dad deliver when he was working with horses.” Keigo looked impressed and moved down the line of frames. Lots of smiling faces and memories.
“You were a cute kid, y’know?” Hands shifted into his pockets and he leaned against a filing cabinet. You scoffed and waved your hand dismissively. “No really. You grew up into a really beautiful woman. Inside and out.”
“Really?” You looked at him in confusion. Your hair was a mess and you were wearing yesterday’s mascara. Surely he was just teasing you like those boys did in elementary school. Always picking on you because you came to school with horses on your tshirts and nose always buried in books about animals.
“Well yeah. I don’t just let anyone put their hands on my wings and have my feathers, you know.”
“About that. Why did-..”
“I can’t explain it, but I just wanted to make sure you were safe, I guess.” You were thankful for the dim lighting of your small office so he wouldn’t see your cheeks blush. You weren’t used to compliments like that and it showed.
“So uh-...Same time next week, Doc?” He could sense your exhaustion and decided not to keep you here longer than needed. But even so, you visibly pouted at the thought of saying goodbye again. Without thinking, you found a sticky note and quickly scribbled something down before handing it to him. “What’s this?”
“J-just for emergencies. It’s my cell number. If you know...if you feel any pain or need anything while the clinic is closed.” As he looked at the numbers you wrote the prescription you mentioned earlier which he then accepted and slipped into his pocket.
“Heh alright. Maybe I’ll shoot you a text if I get lonely.” The panic on your face made him laugh. You really were cute. Why did he have to say it like that?
“Oh my god, just go!” You shrieked, shoving him out the door while he continued to laugh. However before he relented and disappeared, he turned quickly and pressed a kiss to your cheek. You stood still in stunned silence. Your skin tingled where his lips had been, fingers lifting to touch the spot in disbelief.
“See ya later. I’ll text you.” Keigo backed away down and disappeared into the dark alley. Leaving you standing there wondering if you had dreamed what just happened. Your heart raced, the pulse thundering in your ears
Oh no....

Carry Me
Tumblr media
You and Kevin finally admit your feelings
"Take a picture it’ll last longer” Kim whispering in your ear nearly made you jump out your seat as you looked back at her “I have no idea what you’re talking about” She raised an eyebrow and glanced across the room to where your attention had just been. Kevin was standing talking to Hank and it was clear your attention was not on your sergeant.
“You like Kev! I don’t know why you don’t just ask him out. I mean it’s not the stone ages, we women can make the first move” she whispered and you shook your head looking around to be sure no one had heard her. “He’s my co worker Kim. I think if anymore of his team hook up Voight may just have a coronary. Besides I doubt he’d feel the same and a little crush isn’t worth messing up a friendship over” you chanced another look at Kevin and he just happened to look up at that moment and winked at you before returning to his conversation with Hank. Damn he looked good in that blue henley.
—-
Focusing back on work was easy when the unti caught a case involving what appeared to be a gang shooting on the south side.
You were helping do a canvas to try to find any witnesses when you spotted the new patrolman Jessica talking to Kevin and felt a twinge of what could only be described as jealousy when she touched his arm and smiled at something he’d said clearly flirting.
Despite your best efforts to not let it bother you it seemed like your mouth had a brain of it’s own when you blurted out “Officer aren’t you supposed to be helping the canvas? Not pawing one of the intelligence unit?” Her eyes widened as she turned to look at you and stammered “y-yes detective” and turned to catch up with her partner who was already halfway down the block. “Real professional Atwater” you grumbled with a shake of your head glad for a distraction when you heard Hank’s voice calling all of you over.
—-
The unit headed back to the precinct to start working any different angle to find out just what had went down. You luckily were able to avoid Kevin by Hank sending you with Antonio to talk to your joint C.I.s
“Hey you and Kev ok?” He asked on the way back to the precinct and you cut your eyes at him “We’re fine. Why?” He shrugged “Don’t know usually there’s alot more joking going on between the two of you”
“we’re currently working a case Toni. Wouldn’t be too professional would it?” You asked and he again shrugged “Don’t shoot the messenger sweetheart. Just checking to be sure”
—-
A break came in the form of one of your informants calling to say he knew who was taking credit for the shooting and after running down the name it turned out this wasn’t a gang shooting at all but more of a revenge thing considering the shooter had been convicted of a crime six years before hand on which the victim had been a silent informant.
—-
You were all down in roll up getting ready to head out. Kevin looked over when you slipped your vest on but before he could offer to help adjust the straps Adam got through helping Kim and moved to do yours at her request.
He didn’t know why you were so mad at him but it bothered him to some degree not being the one to adjust your vest. He’d been helping you with it since he came up to intelligence and it felt wrong not doing it.
—-
“Oh son of a bitch” you groaned between gritted teeth, your left ankle feeling like it was on fire every time you tried to put the least amount of weight on it.
When all of you had showed up to the address a fire fight had ensued and you’d ended up chasing the suspect three blocks before you tackled him. It quickly turned into a fight before backup could get there and somehow in the mix you’d wound up twisting your ankle in the struggle.
When Adam and Jay saw you standing favoring that side well let’s just say the suspect went in with a few extra bumps.
Hank found you leaning heavily against his suv and looked down at your leg “Go to med” “Boss I’m fine” you argued but one look at his face you knew it wasn’t a request.
You tried to walk back to Antonio’s car but your ankle gave way, before you could hit the ground you felt someone scoop you up in their arms and was surprised to see it was Kevin. A part of you felt embarrassed to be carried after such a trivial injury, the other part fought the urge to lean into his touch. “Put me down” you growled pulling a laugh from him “when you get to the car I’ll put you down”
—-
Antonio ended up riding back with Hank so that left Kevin to take you to med. The two of you sat in silence waiting for Ethan to come back with the results of your xray.
“Are you still mad at me?” He asked glancing up from his phone. You shook your head “Never was” “uh huh” he huffed but thankfully Ethan chose that moment to come in to inform you it was just a bad sprain. “Keep off it, take your anti inflammatory and you shouldn’t be benched but about a week”
“Thanks Doc” you said after he had the ankle wrapped and held out crutches to you. He smiled and said “You’re welcome. It’s a nice change to treat you when a bullet hole isn’t part of the problem”
—-
Kevin helped you get into the car then put your crutches in the backseat. “Sarge said to take you home. Kim is gonna bring your car after shift” he spoke quietly and you nodded not looking at him.
When he pulled into your driveway he turned the car off and sat for a minute before looking at you “Jessica was flirting with me but I told her that I had eyes for someone else before you ever came over there” “and you’re telling me this why?” You asked.
He rolled his eyes and let his head fall back against the rest “Damn girl are you blind? You’re the someone I got eyes for. I’ve been trying to work up the nerve to ask you out but weren’t sure how you felt until you been bugging all day over her. So at the risk of being a damn fool when you’re healed up you wanna go out to dinner with me?”
You were a bit stunned at his confession but couldn’t help teasing him just a little “On one condition” he raised an eyebrow before asking what that condition was. “Carry me in?” You asked with a smirk. He laughed, a relieved look creeping onto his face “I think I can manage that”

Okay so this shit is long this shit is kind of sad please keep scrolling if ur not up for it
On Jaunary 6th my aunt posted something on facebook that is roughly summarized as ‘everybody please pray for my mom i’m not ready to lose her’ and I was like wtf but she is often very intense and dramatic and nobody else said a word (including my step mom/dad who are pretty good at keeping me in the loop) so I figured it was like....one of her many health issues flaring up and that I’d ask when enough time had passed that she wouldn’t be actively dealing with it
On the 12th my sister text me and was like ‘hey me and mom and dad are here’ and I was like ‘oh okay is it because [my step brother] had a baby’ and she was like ‘no it’s because of Mamá’ and I was like okay what the fuck ????
Today I finally had a day off work so I went down and I got The Full Story of what’s been going on
My grandmother was put in the hospital shortly after New Years because she went to the dr for routine bloodwork and they were like ‘you are actively in kidney failure it is VERY severe you need to get to the hospital immediately’. She was there for almost a week before my step mom called my grandma (because she and my dad talk ever weekend) and the above aunt answered the phone. Only then did my family find out what was going on:
In that time period she’s had tubes placed in her bladder and kidneys to help them drain/function better, and then a second surgery after that because the tubes kept kinking, and thus not functioning right.
It was at about that time that they realized that the reason her kidneys were so bad was because the cancer (previously in her bladder) had spread to her kidneys as well and they are full of nodules
So my step mom gets a hold of my oldest uncle (grandma’s power of attorney) to grill him for 1. Not telling them ???? and 2. To figure out why the fuck all this is being done because grandma explicitly said she didn’t want anything like this done. Like she declined all kinds of treatment for her cancer over a year ago, has repeatedly declined them since, and has said outright she refuses to live out the rest of her time in assisted living
And then they tell her that they weren’t planning on telling anybody until grandma was home or if she died
the fun part here is that the people who have the most recent experience with intense inpatient care is mine because of my dad’s accident, and my step mom works in a hospital and has the most experience in navigating these situations, knowing the questions to ask, etc and when they first started this my uncle hadn’t even spoken to a doctor or case worker yet like ???? the fuck ???
And then to top it all off yesterday they were talking about discharging her on Monday (functionally for hospice care) but they were noticing she was still having problems so they did more xrays and found....pneumonia in one lung and nodules in her lungs as well
So now we don’t know what the fuck is going to happen, or what discharge looks like. My grandma’s english is very broken, so we’re 99% positive she’s agreeing to treatments they’ve offered her because she’s in so much pain that if they even hint that it’ll treat it she’ll take what they offer
Today we actually got to talk to her on the phone because no visitors because covid and she sounded so sad and so tired and just kept saying she wanted to leave, and she wanted to be home :(
The only good news is that my sister and I got to work and called the nurses station and confirmed that yes she CAN have things in her room and then we lovingly harassed my uncle until he got her flowers and little treats and we’re looking into bringing her up pictures or a poster or something if they think she’ll be there much longer
Anyways it has been a Long Few Days and please send my family good vibes

Bray Road - Fox Mulder x nonbinary!reader part 2
Agents Mulder and (Y/N) investigate mysterious killing on a forgotten road in rural Wisconsin. A connection to a case in the past brings the investigation to a whole new level.
The agents decided split up. Mulder went to go speak with the surviving victim and (Y/N) went to the coroner’s office so that they could look over the victims so they could get an idea of what could have done this.
-
Mulder entered the ICU where the boy was being held. Jason Mulligan, age twenty-two. He was a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After getting directions from the nurse, he knocked on the door and made his way inside. Laying on the hospital bed, the boy looked like he’d been through the ringer. Any skin visible was covered in bandages, even his head apart from his right eye and mouth was covered. At his bedside was a woman he assumed was his mother.
“Pardon my intrusion, I’m special agent Fox Mulder with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.” He flashed his badge.
“This was an animal attack though.” Mrs. Mulligan said.
“We were called in, it’s just procedure. I just came to ask Jason a couple questions if he’s up to it.” Mulder said, looking at the boy in the bed.
Jason sat up a bit, “I can answer questions.” He spoke in a hushed voice.
“I appreciate that, young man. Now how did you find yourself out on Bray Road yesterday evening.”
“A couple of my friends from school said they saw the beast. We wanted to find it, take pictures and I don’t know… get some money for it? I don’t believe in this type of stuff but-…” He paused, his hands tightening into fists.
“But now you do?” Mulder asked.
“Look, I’ve seen bears and wolves. That thing wasn’t either of those. That thing wouldn’t let us leave the road. It circled us. Picked us off one by one. I got thrown into a ditch and played dead. I stayed there and passed out. I woke up in the hospital.” He recalled the night before.
“The officers said that you were saying a word when you were found. Repeating it actually. You were saying “field” over and over again.”
“I mean, we were right by a field. That’s the only thing I could think of.”
Mulder’s cell phone began ringing in his pocket. He handed Mrs. Mulligan his business card, “Call us if he remember anything else.” He made his way back into the hallway and answered his phone.
“Mulder.”
—–
(Y/N) arrived at the coroner’s office and was led back to the autopsy facility. Dr. Andrea Sherman was the doctor beginning the procedure. Dr. Sherman got scrubbed in and began speaking.
“We’ve pieced together about five bodies. Or what’s left of them. This is the body that’s mostly intact.” She motioned to the body on the table covered in a blue sheet. Dr. Sherman pulled the top of it away revealing the head and torso of Zeke Bruins according to the tag on his toe. His left arm was torn to shreds by the creature’s claws. His right arm, seemingly torn off. The doctor began her physical examination of the body.
“I think this is pretty open and shut.” Dr. Sherman began, “We’ve had a few bear sitting recently. These kids were just there at the wrong place and the wrong time. Probably just a mother defending her cubs.”
“But it’s only October, cubs aren’t usually born until January.” (Y/N) said without thinking, like the words just flew from their mouth. The doctor looked up from the corpse and eyed them.
“I suppose.” She squinted through her safety goggles, “By the way, are you from around here? You look really familiar.”
(Y/N) shook their head, “Nope, just have one of those faces.”
“Well anyway, rabid bear, black bear, the rare grizzly, it’s probably nothing-” She stopped mid sentence, “What the…”
“What is it?” (Y/N) asked. Dr. Sherman was staring into the arm socket of the boy, she took a pair of tweezers. With a little effort, she jerked free something that was embedded in the bone. She dropped it in a metal bowl.
“Oh my god.” Dr. Sherman said. (Y/N) looked over her shoulder and their eyes widened. It was a human tooth. Their stomach dropped and their heart leapt into their throat.
“Could you sent the xrays to the field office in Quantico?” The doctor nodded, “Good. I’ll be in touch.” They made their way out the door and called agent Mulder. He picked up in the first few rings.
“Mulder.”
“It’s (Y/L/N). Listen, one of the victims had a tooth embedded in his shoulder blade.”
“A bear tooth?” He asked.
“No, a human tooth. But that doesn’t make sense.”
“Well, (Y/L/N) the human jaw is capable of biting off our fingers like a carrot, whose to say it can’t be lodged into your bone?” There was just a hint of humor is his voice.
“It’s impossible. The wounds sustained by the victims can’t be human. The average strength of our jaws are at about one hundred sixty pounds per square inch. The force that it would take to do this damage would have to be over two thousand.”
“I have a hunch. I’m meeting up with a local journalist on the case can you meet me there?”
—-
The address agent Mulder gave them was to a small townhouse closer to downtown. They parked in the driveway behind Mulder’s rental and met him on the porch where he seemed to already be talking with the journalist.
“Speak of the devil,” He smiled, “this is agent (Y/L/N).” (Y/N) met the pair and extended their hand to meet the woman’s.
“Linda Godfrey, a pleasure.” They shook her hand. Linda smiled at them.
“Have we met? I’m getting the strangest sense of deja vu.” She said.
(Y/N) shook their head, “Nope. Sorry.”
“Well, like I was telling your partner, back in 1991, I started working for The Week which is the local paper for the county. We were just getting siting after siting. So I started compiling and unraveling. I’m actually writing a book about it, I’m going to call it: The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin’s Werewolf!”
“So you think the beast is a werewolf?” Mulder asked, looking somewhat pleased.
“Well, I don’t know what else it would be. From the descriptions given that could be the only possibility. I even have the testimonies of the only survivor from the attack in the seventies.” Linda said excitedly.
“The survivor was a little kid, it was dark and they were scared. I don’t believe any testimony they give would be accurate. It’s the power of suggestion, this child lives in a town that makes its revenue from a cryptid like mothman or the Jersey devil.” (Y/N) rationalized.
“Even if that were true, Agent (Y/L/N), it’s all we have to go on. The child was placed with family in another state.” Linda said, “Now, if you would like, I could get you a copy of my research and all the evidence I have. You just have to promise to not let a single soul see it.”
“Cross our hearts.” Mulder made a crossing motion with his finger over the left side of his jacket coat.
“Well, come on in.” The agents followed Ms. Godfrey into her home. There were met by endless imagery of wolves and bears on almost every wall, figurines on the coffee table.
“I’ll be right back.” She said, leaving them in the living room.
“I never told you her name.” Mulder said, bending down to look at a figurine of a bear fishing.
“Huh?” They said, mind taken away from the portrait of a wolf howling at the moon.
“When I called you over here I never told you what the journalist’s name was. But you recalled it like it was someone you knew.” His green eyes seemed to look into their soul and to the core of their subconscious. They avoided eye contact, chewing on the inside of their lip.
“Look, Agent (Y/L/N), if you want me to trust you then you need to tell me what’s really going on here.” He said. They stood in silence for what seemed like forever. That is until Linda Godfrey came back with a stand of files.
“Here we are!”
-
Back at the hotel, Mulder had been in his room reading through the files that he had been gifted. Every first hand account of the creature. When he got to the killings in seventy-four he stopped. The name of the child from the case had the same first name as his partner, nothing strange about that. A coincidence more than anything. But that made him think. If he could find this person, who would be around his age at this point, maybe he could convince them to undergo regression hypnosis. He placed a call to the bureau to try and get the adoption records and went next door to share the findings.
-
A knock at the door pulled (Y/N) out of their thoughts. They hadn’t even realized the tears that were trailing done their face until then.
“Come in!” They called. The door opened and Mulder appeared in the doorway. He came inside, shutting the door behind him.
“I was looking through the records and I think the kid from the accident is our best bet of finding this thing. I got in contact with the bureau and they’re uncovering the adoption records.
“That won’t be necessary.” They said, finally meeting his eyes.
“And why’s that?” He asked. After taking a good look at them, he sat besides them on the bed, “Are you okay?”
“No, I’m not.” They paused, choking on back sobs. They cleared their throat and laughed a little.
“Mulder, it’s me. I was the child in the car.”
—–
Yay! Part 2! I’m really happy with how this is coming our so far. Thank you for reading!
Part 3 here!
Also just in case anyone is interested: Linda Godfrey is a real person who actually wrote a book about the Beast of Bray road. I only dramatized her for the sake of the story.
Shoot me a message if you like to be added to the tag!

Super long post.
Hello everyone! I’m sorry I have not been posting pictures and such of Japan yet but after reading this status, I’m sure you’ll understand. I would like to preface this with, other than my medical problems it has been a wonderful and beautiful time so far.
We arrived in Japan on October 3rd and started our 2 week quarantine. I had just come off of a 3 month regimen of Latent Tuberculosis antibiotics. Very strong ones that I had to follow a strict diet and really took a toll on me each day. At the hotel, they give us three meals a day (but we could also go to the convenience store anytime) pretty much still withholding to my antibiotic diet, I ate parts of the meals that they brought and the first day I began to feel ill. One might say, oh maybe you’re just not used to Japanese food? Maybe you’re stressed? But honestly? I was in a good mood and I’d lived in Japan for a year before and the food has never hurt me. Even raw fish.
I figured, like usual, I’d just have some discomfort and it would just go away the next day. Well, it didn’t. It just got worse. So I switched to bottled water (even though the water here is drinkable), still got worse, completely stopped eating the quarantine meals and ate only from the convienence store (which made my husband almost immediately improve) and I got worse. Going to the bathroom 10-20 times a day, finally can barely eat, can barely drink. So on the 10th day due to a sort of loop hole, I was able to go to the ER in Tokyo. They gave me an IV and took a blood test and a CT scan. They said that my whole intestines were really inflamed and I had a bacterial infection. I was taking probiotics and still could sort of eat so they let me go. I just wanted to make it to Aomori. Last few days I had fevers and still never got better, I was eating only banana and rice porridge.
Finally, the day to go to Aomori comes. I take anti diarrhea medicine (absolutely horrible feeling but I was desperate and needed to travel) and while my husband carried almost all of my things himself (absolutely bless him through all this) I made it to Aomori and my supervisor and some other coworkers came and picked me up. I had been keeping in touch with my supervisor about my illness the whole time, so he knew what was going on. They drove me and my husband to our house, gave us the tour and it was absolutely wonderful. It was cozy and well stocked, my predecessor had left a lot of things but useful things so nicely and neatly organized it was like walking into a cozy air bnb. The drive there was also absolutely stunning, some of the most beautiful landscapes i’ve ever seen. Honestly. They had me sign papers and stuff and then they took James to the supermarket and the town hall to take care of the paperwork I couldn’t in my state, and get some groceries.
I slept the entire time (about 4 hours) he was gone.
When my husband came back, he took my temperature and I kid you not I had a fever of 104°F or 40°C!!!!!!!!!! My supervisor and (landlord? Not sure who he is yet but he’s super nice) quickly came back and took us to the clinic. They put me on an IV and anti fever meds. The clinic doctor wrote a referral to the hospital for the next morning. I felt much better after the IV that night.
The next morning, (19th) I went to the hospital early and waited in a bed in the waiting room. They did a ton of tests on me. Ultrasound, ekg, stool sample, blood test, xray. All kinds of things. They admitted me to the hospital for at least a week. So here I am, at the hospital.
I’m not the only one of the Chicago group that got sick but im the only one /this/ sick. There is another person in my prefecture that had to get an IV for half a day and got antibiotics to take. I have been suffering with this for about 15 days now. And though I’m taking it one day at a time and I know I’ll eventually be okay, I’m very tired. The Tokyo doctors mentioned it could be E Coli but didn’t know without further tests. Today the hospital im at will hear what bacteria it is exactly so they will be able to tweak my treatment.
I have not had anything but water since the 19th as they “feed me” through an IV, give me liquids (im not supposed to drink much water) and antibiotics. They just upped my feeding thing to include more calories so I think that is good. But it’s been extremely rough.
However, everyone around me here has been so extremely kind and understanding and helpful to me. My supervisor’s supervisor seems to be in contact with the higher ups about the food we (Chicago consult group) ate. I really hope they improve things for others because if someone brought kids??? They could die. I am not kidding either. It’s extremely serious. I had sent an email early on about the food and they emailed the hotel and then emailed me back and said that everything was up to code. So 🤷‍♀️
Lastly, I want to thank my husband for without him idk how I could make it. It would be so hard and lonely and I need so much help. But he is always kind, and always patient with me when I am sick. I truly am honored to be his wife.
My supervisor and coworkers and friends who have all supported me and given me medicine and said nice things, I so appreciate you all. My supervisor is amazing and is showing my husband around and helping him take care of things without me, I am so appreciative for the people around me.
And the doctors who have all seen me and listened to me. I have had some really top notch nurses here, one hugged me when I was crying, one would talk very slow and clear and explain in detail with simple words how things were working and what is going on, one makes me laugh a lot. They are all very kind and so helpful.
Lastly, thank you God, that I am sick in Japan, because even if I paid for everything out of pocket im looking at no more than probably about $1,500 and I get money back through my insurance so I don’t even pay that much.
So that is what has been going on.
After I get out of the hospital my work is giving me an extra two weeks at home to recover and I couldn’t be more thankful.
I hope no one else has to deal with this while moving to a new country and they get it all sorted out. ❤️
Thanks for reading my super super long post haha.

our young guinea pig Blini very suddenly left us today. her breathing rapidly worsened over the past week and because of a long weekend adjacent to a holiday we only got ahold of medicine for her yesterday, then this morning I noticed a blue tint in her sweet little pink ear and took her to a vet clinic where her condition was so critical she ended up not surviving her xray. she was barely 5 months old, it’s a tradegy beyond words
we’re utterly, utterly heartbroken. after multiple days of extremely rushed cleaning, culminating in having to kill time outside of the house for over 3 hours yesterday while my family members took a look at every corner to see what renovation work they need to do when they move in here straight after a very loud and very awful morning Fox and me really didn’t get a single day to recouperate. it’s just not fucking fair
I’m mad at the vet I’ve been seeing for not having treated her as the urgent case she was, I had to do a lot of my own reading and I had to call and write so many times without serious responses
the vet clinic doctor we saw today said she might’ve been born with a heart defect so who knows how far our treatment would’ve gotten us anyway but I hate the idea that she might’ve had a chance had she been treated more properly. I loved her with all my heart, we instantly fell in love. she was such a trooper and the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen but I only have like 4 pictures of her because in the 3 short months we’ve had her she was just too fast and too spritely to get any proper ones
in the xray you couldn’t even see her heart anymore because she had so much fluid inside of her, the vet said it’s a miracle she was eating still. the past 1-2 weeks I’ve been giving her a nearly constant rotation of amazing vegetables to keep her appetite up and despite the pain and the laboured pumping of her little lungs she came out of her house excited to get her food even just this morning. I really thought she could pull through, I was so motivated, I was so ready to keep up her medication dutifully and care for her as thoroughly as we had been these weeks, changing placements of the houses multiple times a day to avoid her sitting in a wet patch for too long, offering an extra healthy rotation of veggies, mitigating stress as much as possible. changing the bedding every 2 days
Blini we’re going to miss you so much. I’ll draw something for you, you were so loved. I’m so sorry you had to work this hard. rest easy girl

Wooden Blocks Ch 2
4 month well child check
Pairing: MinaSaku
Rating: G
Summary: Sakura continues to get to know Kakashi. Minato adapts to his new life.
Note: Kakashi an Sakura will have more of a platonic relationship. I do plan for Minato and Sakura to meet outside of the clinic in the next chapter.
Also posted on AO3
“Mr. Namikaze is everything alright?” Sakura didn’t know what trouble little Naruto could get into in the eight hours since he had seen him in the office.
“Sorry to bother you Dr. Haruno, but it’s Naruto. He has this rash on his chest that just popped out of nowhere. I don’t know what to do.” Minato sounded panicked on the phone.
“Can you describe the rash for me?” Sakura could hear him fumbling about with the phone.
“It’s red and gooey looking. There are other redder areas around it.” At least he was doing better than most at describing the rash. She was perplexed how such a rash could just pop up.
“Is it tender when you touch it?” Minato told her to wait a second.
“Oh...Oh… It smells like pizza sauce. Oh.” Smelling like pizza sauce that was something Sakura had never heard of before.
“Dr. Haruno I’m sorry to waste your time. I forgot one of my old mentors was watching Naruto this afternoon so I could go into work for a few hours. He must have gotten pizza sauce on Naruto when he was eating. My mentor even sent a picture of Naruto on his lap as he ate the pizza.” Minato felt like a complete and total idiot. He just freaked out when he saw red that he didn’t pay close enough attention.
“It’s ok Mr. Namikaze. I’m glad it is just pizza sauce. I do recommend a good sponge bath for little Naruto. Did you have any other questions?” Sakura had to stifle her laughter as she talked to him. First time parents. She then paused. He was a first time single father, he must be a nervous wreck going at this all alone.
“No. No other questions.” Minato sounded like a defeated puppy.
“Mr. Namikaze please don’t feel bad about calling. I would rather you can when you have a concern. You don’t know what something is or what is going on unless you ask. They didn’t give you a pamphlet on how to raise a child. So please don’t ever hesitate to call. Have a good night.” Sakura hung up the phone and took a deep breath. She felt fabric being draped over her shoulders.
“I thought you would need a jacket. It gets chilly once the sun sets.” Sakura found Kakashi’s coat on her. Her heart was warmed by the kind gesture.
“That is very considerate of you. Thank you.” Kakashi walked Sakura to her car. As she unlocked her doors she gave Kakashi’s jacket back to him. She couldn’t help herself when she placed a kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you for dinner.” Before she could get in the car his hand stopped her.
“I had a nice evening. Could I get your number?” Sakura blushed. She gave Kakashi her number, applauding herself for not stuttering too much.
“Have a good night Kakashi.”
“You too Sakura.” Sakura sat in her car thinking back to her crazy day. She enjoyed her time with Kakashi, but wasn’t sure if she saw anything romantically happening with him. There was something that just wasn’t right. However, she would give it another try if he called her.
_____________________
After Dr. Haruno hung up the phone Minato couldn’t help but to bang his head against his kitchen table. He was so worried when he saw the “rash” on Naruto he freaked out. He has never felt like more of an idiot in his life.
Jiraya was kind enough to watch Naruto this afternoon. Minato was so nervous leaving, but he had to go into his office for a few hours. He had worked hard over the years building his architect firm and they were getting a proposal ready for a big bank. He knew he could trust Obito and Kakashi with the deal, but he wanted to make sure everything was immaculate.
The trio had worked so hard they didn’t realize it was 7pm. Kakashi had to make a quick exit, saying something about a blind date. That left him and Obito together. Obito decided to order food stating that he “needed a break.” Minato couldn’t protest because before he knew it Obito had already placed an order for burgers and fries.
“The order will be here in 20 minutes. I know you want to get back to Naruto, but he is in good hands with Jiraiya. Sit down and rest for a little bit.” While Obito tended to be the more easy going jokester between them. He also cared deeply for his friends and family.
“You’re right. Now tell me how are you going to propose to Rin?” Minato laughed as Obito stammered. He may have been preoccupied in the last few months, but he knew Obito was going to propose soon.
“Who told you? The only other one who knows is ...Kakashi told you!” Obito had jumped up and pointed a finger at Minato. For a man in his early 30s Obito was still a kid at heart.
“Kakashi visited just before Naruto was discharged. He wanted to get my mind off of things and told me. Don’t get too mad at him.” While Kakashi shouldn’t have told Minato it did bring his mind out of a dark place. He had something to look forward to. Obito was taking a big step in his life and he needed to be by his side.
“By the way Rin said she would be open to babysit anytime you need her.”
Minato might just take RIn up on her offer, at some point. He shook his head, not now of course. Minato went over the sink to make a bath for Naruto. He didn’t feel like messing with the tube and the baby seat. When he went to the bathroom to get the baby body wash, towel, and washcloth, he stopped. He stared at the small rubber duck holding a bowl of ramen. Minato carefully picked it up and took it with him.
He checked the water with his hand before placing Naruto in. As the warm water hit his skin Naruto started to giggle. The smile he gave could melt the hardest of men. It reminded him of Kushina. He would not let the tears fall.
Minato wrapped Naruto in his towel. He made sure every little bit of pizza sauce was off of him. He placed Naruto in the bassinet next to his bed. He fell fast asleep. Minato crawled into bed and watched the rise and fall of Naruto’s chest. He slowly drifted to sleep.
_________________________
It had been a week since Sakura heard from Minato last. She was surprised she didn’t get any more calls, but hoped he was settling in.
Sakura had a jammed packed schedule for the day. They had double booked her in 4 different times spots meaning she would not have lunch. She really liked lunch...well food in general. She was hoping for some no shows. While she adored all her patients she might lose her sanity at the end of the day.
She looked at her schedule and at least she started with one of her favorites.
“Shikadai! How is my favorite 2 year old doing?” When she saw that bright smile spread across  his face her day instantly brightened. For the next 3 hours Sakura flashed in and out of her exam rooms. The nurses would just see a flash of pink and then children’s laughter. She did get behind due to the scheduling errors, but the parents and children were understanding. For the most part at least. Her patient at 1145, was not so understanding, even though they were a walk in.
“Hello you must be Miss Ami. I’m Dr. Haruno, sorry for your wait.” The little girl had short purple hair and brown eyes. Before Ami could speak her mother cut in.
“We have been waiting for 30 minutes. My child has horrible abdominal pain and you place us in this room to wait.” Sakura had to take a deep breath. She did a quick glance of Ami who was sitting comfortably by her mother playing a game on the phone. No increased work of breathing, no pallor, no distress. At least the first glance Ami looked ok.
“I’m sorry about Mrs.Yoshi. Can you tell me when the pain started?”
“It has been going on for 3 weeks.” Sakura could not let her eye twitch externally. Three weeks!
“And what changed with the pain today to bring her in?” Sakura kept her smile on her face.
“It’s gotten worse and she had an accident at school.” Ami looked away from Sakura and tried to hide behind her mother.
“Oh you poor thing. That must have been so hard for you. Was it a stool or urine accident?”
“It was poop.”
“How often does she have a bowel movement?”
“Once every couple of days. She sometimes cries.”
“Let me take a look over. Miss Ami can you get up on the table for me?” Ami dropped the phone and hopped up on the table with ease. No concerns for appendicitis at the moment.
Sakura quickly looked over Ami. Making sure to feel on her stomach and ask where the pain was. Thankfully she did not have any localization to the right lower quadrant, but she did feel full.
“Alright Mrs. Yoshi I want to get an Xray of Ami’s abdomen. At her age constipation is a common cause of abdominal pain. With the worsening of her pain I know it can be scary, but the location is not consistent with appendicitis. She also has not had any fevers and no nausea or vomiting, which is all reassuring. So Miss Ami let's get a picture of that tummy. Have you ever had an Xray done before?” Mrs. Yoshi seemed to have relaxed some. As she settled Ami and her mother into the waiting area she made her way back to her desk. She would have a few minutes to catch up on some notes and type up a summary for Ami.
Fifteen minutes later she was bidding farewell to the duo. Mrs. Yoshi did apologize on the way out.
“I know it’s scary when your child is in pain. This should get her to feeling better and I want to see her back in 1 month.” As she watched the mother and daughter leave her stomach roared like a lion. It was 1240 and she would not have time to get lunch. She prayed she had a granola bar in her bag.
When Sakura got to her office she froze.
“I thought I would surprise you with lunch. Hope you don’t mind. Ino told me where you worked.”
Kakashi sat in her office with the most delicious smelling food. Warmth filled her.
“That’s very kind of you and couldn’t have been on a better day. I wasn’t going to have time to get something to eat.” Sakura eagerly sat down. She didn’t even think as she took the box of stir fry from Kakashi and stuffed her face. She was so engrossed in her food she didn’t realize the mess she was making. Kakashi’s laugh brought her out of her food zone.
“I’m glad you like the food.” Kakashi tried hard not to cringe. He was enjoying getting to know Sakura over the last week, but he just wasn’t sure.
“Sorry. I was just so hungry. How is your day going so far?” Sakura tried to salvage her dignity as she cleaned her face off.
“Good. My boss will be coming back to work next week, so everyone is frantic, but it will be nice to have him back. Do you have any plans for the weekend?” Sakura had to think. Today was Wednesday or was it Thursday? It really didn’t matter, she didn’t have anything planned.
“No. I don’t have any plans.”
“Would you be interested in going with me to an art gallery Saturday night?” Sakura wasn’t sure, but she promised Ino she would try.
“Sure. Sounds like it could be fun.” Well at least it would get her out of her house.
____________________________
Minato was settling into a rhythm with Naruto. He would wake up about two times during the night. No more coughing at night was music to Minato’s ears.  Minato started taking Naruto to daycare for a couple hours out of the day. During those couple of hours he would work from home making sure everything was ready when he went back full time on Monday.
It was currently 3pm on Friday and he was looking forward to his weekend with Naruto. He just had to finish up some paperwork. The ring of his phone caused him to jump slightly.
“Kakashi is everything ok?” Kakashi was placed in charge of the office when Minato was away, so Minato was hoping that nothing was going wrong. Kakashi was an efficient and intelligent man, but he tended to do more reading than working at work.
“I couldn’t remember the name of that restaurant that you were talking about a few weeks back and needed a refresher.” Minato had to think back. He then remembers one of the restaurants he would frequent when Naruto was in the hospital.
“Ichiraku Ramen? Why do you want to know?”
“ I have a date tomorrow night and want to take her somewhere after the art gallery.”
“You cannot take her to Ichiraku Ramen! Take her to the Crimson Dragon, it’s nicer.” He then heard Kakashi mumble on the other end of the phone. Minato hoped that their date went well, Kakashi was too much of a recluse. He also hoped Kakashi showed up on time.
“Alright I gotta go pick up Naruto. I’ll see you at work Monday. Oh and don’t be late.”
Minato quickly made his way to pick up Naruto. He was looking forward to a lazy weekend.
_______________________
Sakura stared at her closet. She had no clue what to wear. What does one wear to an art gallery? She stared at her phone. Regret overcame her as she pressed the call button.
“What’s up Forehead?” Sakura sighed.
“What does one wear to an art gallery and then out to dinner?” Sakura had to pull the phone away from her ear as Ino screamed.
“Please tell me it’s Kakashi! He’s cute, right?” Ino went on a five minute rant rating all the guys she has seen recently.
“Ino. Can we get back to me?” Sakura was getting a headache.
“ You have to wear your black wrap dress with the gold heels. Pin your hair up. And for the love of god don’t look like a mess.” Sakura took great offense to that. She never looked like a mess, although working with kids tended to get her sticky with lots of different material.
“Thanks Pig.”
“I expect details tomorrow over coffee.” Sakura didn’t waste any time hanging up the phone. She made quick work of getting dressed and she was ready just on time.
Well she thought she was ready on time. 7pm rolled by and Kakashi didn’t show up. She looked at her phone making sure she had the right time. Yep. He was going to pick her up at 7pm and it was now 745. So she waited. Sakura checked her phone multiple times. No new calls or messages.
Then she heard the knock on her door. She wanted to yell at Kakashi for being late, but reeled it in. Instead she put a smile on her face and opened the door.
“Yo. Sorry I’m late. Ready to go?” That’s all she got. No explanation. Sakura’s smile went tense and she nodded yes.
________________________
The art was interesting to say the least. It definitely wasn’t her style and the artist was a little too obsessed with depicting puppets in his work. As they walked to the restaurant her phone rang. She knew she wasn’t going to go a night of being on call without someone calling her. Mei was going to owe her for taking her call tonight. She quickly excused herself before they headed in.
“This is Dr. Haruno.”
“Hi Dr. Haruno, it's Minato...Naruto’s father.”
“Hello Mr. Namikaze, what is going on with Naruto this evening?”
“He has a fever and won’t keep his formula down.” Sakura delved into the typical questions. How long has it been going on? How high has the temperature gotten? How many wet diapers? It started this morning apparently. Naruto’s temperature has gotten up to 100.6. He was eating well during the day, but for the last 2 bottles he has been throwing up. Eight wet diapers so far today. No diarrhea.
“Has he been around anyone sick?”
“Umm I started taking him to daycare a few hours each day. I don’t know of anyone sick there.” Sakura winced, daycares were a cesspool of germs.
“He probably picked something up there. Give him some tylenol for his fever and see how he does after that. If he continues to throw up you can try some pedialyte. He likely caught a viral infection. If you notice any increased work of breathing, less than 2 wet diapers, I would take him to the ED or to the clinic if it is on the weekday.”
“Thank you Dr. Haruno.”
“No problem Mr. Namikaze. Please let me know if there is anything else.” As Sakura hung up the phone she found herself smiling. She had a feeling both would have a lot of growing over the next couple of years.
Sakura soon entered the restaurant and joined Kakashi for their dinner.
___________________________
It had been 3 weeks since Sakura last heard from Minato. When she got back to the office the Monday following his call she made sure the nurse called to check on them. Once Naruto got some tylenol he started taking his bottles again. His fever only lasted a day and he was back to normal.
Sakura looked at her schedule and smiled when she saw a certain 4 month old’s name. He would be coming in later in the day. She was looking forward to seeing that mop of blonde hair. Her day passed relatively smoothly. Her last appointment for the day canceled, which meant after seeing Naruto her day would be done. Now she just had to wait. She didn’t have to wait long as she saw them check in and then get roomed.
_________________
The last few weeks have gone better for the Adventures of Naruto and Minato. Yes Minato came up with his very own title for Naruto’s life. After the fever most things were smooth sailing. Naruto was doing well adjusting to being in daycare and to Minato’s credit he adjusted decently too. He only tried to run out of the office a couple of times to check on him. Obito and Kakashi would snicker when he tried. Rin always seemed to show up and halted his attempt to escape.
His firm was almost done with the bid for the bank tower. The proposal started to come together nicely. As he sat in the waiting room this time it was less nerve wrecking then the first time. There was a different nurse this time who called for them. Naruto was happy babbling in Minato’s lap. They were rushed back for the vital component and placed into an exam room.
A knock on the door made Naruto jump.
“Well if it isn’t little Naruto. Look how big you have gotten. Mr. Namikaze it's good to see you again.” Naruto easily smiled at Dr. Haruno as she talked. Minato could see Naruto’s head move as she sat down. Dr. Haruno seemed to be solely focused on Naruto, which was refreshing. Most women just stared at him and ignored Naruto.
“Alright any questions or concerns for today?” And with that the questions started. After the barrage of questions he watched as Dr Haruno easily picked up Naruto and started to look him over. For some reason the lack of attention he was getting was bothering him.
“How is daycare going?” Minato realized he had zoned out.
“Uh...daycare is going well. Aside from the fever a few weeks ago, he has not had any colds. Will he get another cold?” Minato wasn’t sure if he could handle Naruto being sick.
“It is likely he will get another cold and more then just one. How has his sleeping been? I know last time he had problems with a cough at night.”
“He wakes about twice at night for a bottle and then he is back to sleep. As for the cough that seems to have gone away.” Naruto started to reach for her stethoscope as she picked him up. He watched as Naruto tried to kick his legs on the table.
“That’s good. Aright Naruto you look good. It is time for his four month shots. He can be a little fussy afterwards, so you can give him some tylenol if needed. I’ll have the nurse come in to give the shots. Mr. Naruto I will be seeing you again at 6 months of age. Try not to scare your father with pizza sauce this time.” Minato’s checks flushed as she mentioned the pizza incident.
“We will be seeing you in 2 months Doc.” Minato watched as she left. Naruto looked at his father and giggled.

Tell me your birthday and I will tag you on your special day!═══════ ೋღ ღೋ ═══════
 May 14th - 20th
═══════ ೋღ ღೋ ═══════
Kim Seokjin: chip
Seokjin was a powerful mafia leader who enjoyed food, bad jokes and praise for his good looks. He was an amusing young man, with just the right amount of Savage and you, you were his cute little wife. Your job was to stand and look pretty as his good luck charm at the black jack tables. You would subtly distract other men so your dear husband could collect all the chips. He knew you did it to make him happy but it didn’t stop him from kissing you in front of all opponents to show who you belonged to.
Min Yoongi: Pack
You were sick of him ignoring you. A relationship is a two way street but lately it was just you putting in the effort. Yoongi would spend his time hold up in his studio and when he did come out he was grumpy, not adorable grumpy no he swore and said things you knew he didn’t really mean.
That didn’t mean you didn’t have self respect, your doctor had just called congratulating you on your pregnancy. When you knocked on Yoongi’s door you received a string of curses he told you in some choice words to ‘f*** off’.
So that’s what you were doing, you began packing everything. Tears streaming down your face it wasn’t a pretty sight in the slightest. Finally packed you were leaving a note.
Yoongi,
I would do anything you ask of me because I love you. But I cannot stay if you treat me this way. I mean among other things today you told me to ‘f*** off’ so I guess I am.
I love you and will never find anyone like you, not that I can anymore. I am going to be a mum so I guess it’s just me and either a son or daughter we have made together. You can visit them if you wish or you can be a part of their lives but otherwise I’m sorry. I am sorry I wasn’t strong enough to stay but your words tore me down.
Y/n
Jung Hoseok: Rat
Hoseok was not happy with this scenario, he was playing on a reality tv show. He was separated from his six band mates and each guy was paired with another celebrity/idol. Hobi got you a foreigner but a very smart and fearless one.
The show was where celebrities played a game of hide and seek and only one pair could be found per day so you had supplies and had to take a base.
The whole town was fake and only the contestants got an electronic map complete with supply drops and such. Each player when they found their base secured it on the map.
There were ten teams and ten bases so why could you see nine. You were playing around with the map when you found a secret sublevel filled with supplies and stuff: the entrance was the sewers.
“Hoseok all this food and stuff is ours and no one will think to look underground come one”
You confirmed your location in the base in the fake sewer system complete with real rats.
Kim Namjoon: No dirty
You left him instructions, put the dirty clothes in the washing machine, one scoop of powder. Turn the dial to regular before hitting play. It didn’t seem hard you even took pictures for reference on your little page of instructions.
When you came home you were surprised to see that the place was honestly clean, the floors mopped and everything was perfect the washing had all been done and folded. Your bed was made.
“Joonie, did you do all this, I just wanted you to do a few loads of washing not clean the whole house”
The further you entered the premises you noticed subtle things out of place, there was a set of keys on the bench that weren’t yours nor Namjoon’s.
You walked to the fish tank and in the reflection you noticed the walk in pantry door open and six young men pile out grabbing the keys and heading to the front door.
“You boys want to stay for dinner?”
“Ahahaha Noona we are really busy we were just stopping by”
“Yeah I forgot you always stop by with a vacuum mop bucket and thirty cleaning supplies” you turned deadpanning “what happened?”
“I followed your instruction but the suds overflowed everywhere” Namjoon pouted and you couldn’t even pretend to be mad.
“Thank you boys so much and we will keep trying Joonie, if first we don’t succeed, we try again”
Park Jimin: Xray
Jimin was walking through the hospital escorting patients here and there, and you were his rival in the field. To be honest you had a bit of a crush on him. It was that notion that if there is something you can’t have you want it more. So here you two were working with a very important patient trying to figure out what was wrong.
“I think it could be Amyloidosis”
“Slow down doctor house this isn’t a sitcom, this is real life” you scoffed and the patient looked between you.
“Can you just figure out what ever it is I have and fix it?” The patient was exasperated by the two of your banter.
Hoseok took the bio bag off you in the doorway and took it to the lab for testing. The two of you continued paperwork and the patient review together. “Have you travelled overseas in the last few days?”
“Uh yes, I was in Europe last week” the patient coughed up red the liquid coming out his nose and ears. The fluid had splatter across the two of you. So now here you were on lock down it seemed the patient was suspected to have a rather contagious illness that had you and the other doctor removed and placed in a tiny room. The hours seemed to pass and you both sat waiting trying to solve the case from isolation. ‘Send him for an Xray”
“I agree with dr. y/n.” Jimin nodded “call back if you have any more information.
Kim Taehyung: Millionaire
He had everything he ever wanted, rooms full of games and cupboards full of food and clothes and the latest gadgets. He woke and put on his new Gucci shirt and grinned. His housekeeper was Kim Seokjina, a witty and rather dashing young man, he ran the estates affairs. His tutor is a genius by the name of Kim Namjoon. Then there was the gardener, Jung Hoseok, a sweet guy with skin kissed by the sun always glowing so warm. There was Young mister Park Jimin, he was a fun guy to be around, he spent the time tending to the little chores, Jeon Jungkook even younger spent his time running maintenance around the mansion. Lastly There was the quiet barely ever seen Min Yoongi who was the cook and who indulged his master with the finest strawberries.
Each of them played a role around taking care of young mister Kim Taehyung and they treated him kindly yet fairly. When Mrs. Kim suggested her son meet some eligible young women to date; they all seemed rather nervous.
Jeon Jungkook: Stutter
He has a stutter. That is the first thought people have when they meet Jeon Jungkook, he is so self conscious with how he sounds to others, sometimes he doesn’t speak at all. He is however forced to speak when the situation demands it. But only after he has tried every other method of communication first. He arrived at the library looking for another story about a brave underdog becoming the hero and defeating evil. He wished his life was like those in the stories, because he would be a hero and would have a beautiful girlfriend which had been by his side all along and he would gain confidence and the stutter would disappear.
Selecting the next in the Larry Dotter series, Jungkook headed to the counter seeing you smile, you were the only one he didn’t stutter around, why couldn’t he talk to girls like he talked to you. He was never worried about how he sounded around you because you were deaf and never judged him.
“He smiled purchasing the book, listening to you talk in your adorable voice, something he knew you hated but it was endearing to hear you talk excitedly about things.
In his story you would be winry peasley, he thought smiling. Little did he know that Larry and Winry were destined to be together.

Brother Dearest Pt 13
Tumblr media
December came bringing with it an all around giddy spree of decorating for the upcoming holiday. More and more time at home came with the mill being shut down will after New Years and new storms rolling in bringing more ammunition in the snow battles you all stirred up on your days off drawing gleeful Venom at having ample snow time with his family. All followed by cocoa and snuggling piles in front of the roaring fire, at least until the second week had rolled around. The tree had been chosen and on your readied stance to head out and fetch it the arrival of the mail by horse drawn sled when the usual truck wouldn’t start had the mailman shaking himself awake from the cold stiffness in his body to pass over the bundle of mail. Grinning as he said, “Looks like the usual, with a something special for Miss Pear.”
Your brow inched up and you asked, “Special? For me?”
Victor had accepted the bundle he flipped through only to grin at the letter in the middle he passed to you clearly addressed marking it as results for your college exams. Wide eyed you looked at the letter then passed it to Eddie, who smirked and turned it over seeing your place holding Victor’s arm halfway between clinging to it and hiding behind it. The Mailman had turned to head back to his sled only to turn back with a grin at the laughs in your excited shrieking hug all but tackling Victor out of glee for your perfect scores. He would wait to join the others in town on hearing the details and hopes on what schools you might have decided on. The town had caught on through the brothers you had been offered a tour of the best schools in the States and would probably attend there hopefully to come home over any breaks to share about it all.
.
Decorated to the hilt the house was ready and even with being Jewish Eric and Edie came over willing to spend the holiday break with you not wishing to celebrate their own traditions this year, still doubtful of the safety in doing so. All the same you kept the religious aspect to a minimum and kept it based on family together sharing stories of Holidays past with news of what your future plans were. From the blizzard on Christmas to the clear meteor shower on New Years you sat with cocoa and cider on the roof huddled up watching the streaks of light flash across the sky giving you a spectacular new start to the New Year.
On and off the snow came down harder and harder in sporadic blizzards with a stack of acceptance letters from schools in Canada and America alike. But somewhere between a ice fishing trip and plans to make one last trip up to a set of hills for more snow capped pictures Victor would let you take on his camera in the middle of the night your hand latched on James’ across your chest jolting awake at a crash on the roof. Awake behind you he kissed your cheek murmuring, “I believe that’s hail, stay in bed, Darling.” Easing his arms back to slip out of bed and pull his briefs and pants on he’d left at the end of the bed as usual to move into the hall opening the hidden control box for the storm shutters on the upper floor while Victor had sealed those for the ground floor.
Back to bed he went easing in behind you curling you back in his arms again, “Just hail, back to sleep Darling. Roof is reinforced with metal shingles under the wooden slats.” Off again you slipped while nestling back against his chest.
..
Spring had truly showed up as with another three days had the lingering chill lift into a rainy but cool shift in seasons. Truly it had brought about a big change and with the new weather came more and more jerks awake from sleep calming after the tenth time taking the momentary throw of yourself back into battles with cannon fire had become less real and more obvious as memories James and Victor helped you and Eddie through. Venom was the one to be the most dangerous to calm for them but once you had he eased feeling your own pulse dropping that his mirrored allowing Eddie out again to calm himself.
Robbers and Heists had splashed across headlines and taken the country by storm. A band of masked thieves had taken a cross country road trip to try and gather up all the funds possible it seemed. And clenching your hand around the rail on the back of a stool at the bar through another crash of thunder a knowing pair of returned officers moved from their booth stirring out your forced grin hoping to distract you and themselves. “First storms are the worst each Spring.” One said settling down with his drink.
The other saying, “It’ll calm down.”
“The guys keep saying that.” You replied stealing another glance at Eddie who was watching the group of men in the curved booth in the corner of the diner. With the mill shut at the torrential downpour the brothers were off at home planning out the first trek into the woods of the season surely to cross the paths of several of their neighboring bears waking from winter that had to be planned carefully.
Two more orders of pie and a sudden grip on your hair had you back stepping to the counter with the men from town all eyeing the man holding you with a gun to your chest along with Dot and her cousin held by two more from the group of now mask wearing gunmen. “Everyone, wallets out now!” The cocking of the gun at Dot’s head had your eyes narrowing seeing Venom slithering slowly over Eddie stunning the men in that half of the building.
The whole town had read, passed around and damn near memorized each edition of your comics that had been mailed in by the caseload every month but all the same even if they had assumed you had powers the gun to your chest had pockets emptying until your foot stomped on the boot behind you crushing the foot inside. A loud scream came from the gunman whose finger twitched shooting you in his backwards stagger through the side of your ribs and before the others could react Venom had leapt across the room grabbing those holding Dot and her cousin now being led away by the officers.
Guns were fired, and after a heavy blow with your metal coated fist to the face of the man who had shot you one culprit was down. Turned around again a shout inducing wave of spoons from the dirty dish tray behind you now lodged into the skin of the remaining masked men. The pain halting them from attacking others in their shock and yet their fingers still squeezed the triggers of the guns aimed at you. Once Venom had finished swallowing the pair who had taken the other girls eyes turned to you and the hovering group of silverware and bullets you had stopped as you said, “Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of polyester?”
Their guns fell apart in their hands at the coating of silver spreading in your eyes. The masked men grouped up flinching away from the hissing Venom while they tried to pull the spoons from their skin that were lodged down to the bone. A lunge had two more racing for you only to fall at your averted steps and grips on their heads slamming them into the bar knocking them out with another wave of your hand calling the knife drawn by one of their friends across the diner that fell to the ground in front of you.
Along the wall the Sheriff, now watching Dot in her dart to fetch a clean cloth for the bleeding wound on your side said, “Now Venom, these boys clearly aren’t Nazis, though, knowing what trouble they’ve been causing, no less worthy of a meal. You go on ahead eat up,” the masked men’s eyes went wide at his words, “Don’t rightly feel up to the paperwork and transfer once the other forces pick up that we’ve secured them.” That made Venom smile wider and away they scrambled while the others turned their eyes to you seeing your eyes close and the silverware drop at your fighting the healing of your body in front of everyone when Dot had pressed the cloth into your side.
One of the other former solders you were talking to said, “I’ll get Dave,” racing off to fetch the vet knowing the Doctor was out of town to see his family into the rain while Dot’s cousin led you to the closest seat, “Come sit down, Bunny.”
Tumblr media
With a full kit and fully drenched Dave had rushed in by the time Venom had finished off the last of the unconscious men in the group you had drawn the silverware and knives closer to you the men from town gathered up and gave to the Sheriff, who was eyeing the van the group had drove up in. The keys for which Venom coughed up along with the spoons he added to the dirty dish tray and passed to the blinking Sheriff who thanked him. To your side Dave came and eyed the wound still slowly bleeding he pressed his fingers around muttering, “I’ll need an xray of this to find the bullet.” At that Eddie came over and had you in his arms making you huff and rest your curled arm on his shoulder at the wall of water crashing down on you for the short race back to the Vet’s office with Dave.
You didn’t want to leave the group alone, you wanted to explain, but already in your absence they had decided their own path in defending you and your secrets. All of them comforted you had powers close to your comics, hopefully including the healing powers rumored for you to quicken the sealing of your wound explaining your scar free self with three documented times of being shot in service. Still the diner had to be cleared up of any sign of trouble sending the group into a frenzy to get it just right with plans to get rid of the van while you had finally entered the office.
Dave, “Right through here.” Anxiously he wet his lips and said, “I do apologize, however I am going to need to have you remove your dress and slip.”
Wetting your lips you complied with a forced grin with Eddie looking on as Dave’s chaperone to ease the poor nervous Vet’s comfort. Around your hips the dress settled and simply lifting your slip you laid back on the offered towel while he brought over the portable ultrasound machine stating, “Perhaps we can give this a go first,” holding a set of sanitized tweezers and the wand he pressed above the bullet hole.
The pressure of the wound making you shut your eyes as your body ached to force the bullet out itself. A huff from him eased your choice to shift the bullet into his sights in the stream of more blood, “Ah, there you are,” lowering the tweezers he gripped the bullet saying, “I apologize if this worsens your pain.” A wiggling tug and the bullet was out with him only to watch open mouthed at the snap of your control as the blood from the wound flashed to silver and capped the wound, the skin around which turned silver as well like polished metal.
Unable to think of what to say you said, “I don’t have ears or a tail.”
In a relieved chuckle he smoothed his free hand over his chest, “I am so relieved.” Eddie chortled and he said settling the bullet in a metal bowl with the tweezers, “They told me you had been shot in the chest, even with all my medicine and training-,” your hand was circled by his and you grinned at his asking, “Will it, is this metal?”
“It is.”
“May I?” You nodded a his hand released yours to gently tap around the wound feeling your skin then began to tap and press on the now grapefruit sized patch of polished silver parting his lips, “It feels like metal.”
“The iron from my blood pools up. It’ll recede in a couple weeks at most, just have to eat a whole bunch to quicken it along.”
“You can control metal then, brilliant. Let’s get you cleaned up. First, a few bandages to play the part. Send you home on bed rest to play along, mum’s the word.”
“Thank you.”
He shook his head, “No, no, thank you. I could not think of losing my friends to this useless violence.” His hands finding a bandage he placed over your closed wound Eddie held as you sat up and Dave wound a roll of gauze around your ribs realizing just how close the bullet got to puncturing a lung. Slip wiggled down and dress buttoned up again you were helped up and then into the front lobby. There you waited for Dave to fetch his car to drive you home while Eddie returned to the diner mentally sharing what all those there had decided before Venom came out again and helped the Sheriff help to get rid of the van and bring him back again for the rest of the shift.
The arrival of the car had the brothers exiting the cabin, curious to see Dave there only to feel their hearts pounding when you stepped out under the covered drive in front of the door, both staring at the blood stain on your dress. Both coming closer to you looking you over hearing the simple recap on what had happened until Dave said with a grin and a pat on the hood of the car, “Well, I best get back, I’ll leave her to your care. Bunny, two weeks, hang around the house and eat up, I’ll drop by in a couple days to pretend to check on you.” Flashing you a wave in his pop back into the car he drove off in, you turned to the pair and Victor growled, “How much of a head start did they get or is Venom after them?”
“Venom already ate them.” You sighed as you walked in guiding them to the kitchen where you played it all out using some of the decorative metal marbles from a vase to make miniatures of the whole event. The moment of silence after luring the pair to hug you and press their hands on your side ensuring you were intact then got to making you lunch while you were sent up to bathe and head to bed.
.
Arm-fulls of fish were gathered and Victor went into full fury in the kitchen while James ensured that the couch was set up for cuddles after the meal, then went to join in on the cooking. A full table was prepared and by the time you came down in some comfy trousers and a blouse flowing freely and thick socks you combed your fingers through the loose curls coming down with a hint of a smirk taking the chair eased back for you.
Plates were emptied through the pair assuring you had more than your fair share until your belly had poofed out a bit and you were freed to go stretch out on the couch. By the time the dishes were done the pair crept into the living room and smirked seeing you napping. After a stolen peek through the space between two buttons they could see the large metal patch shrinking in an inch all around. By their guess a few more days and you would be fully healed again with how much they would feed you.
A blanket was grabbed and around you it was draped and James behind it for as long as he could until the guys went to talk to Eddie in his walk though the door. Victor broke the silence and asked, “You ate them?”
Eddie wet his lower lip, “Technically. Bunny sleeping?”
James nodded, “Yes, on the couch.”
Victor, “Fed her some fish shrank the silver a good deal. How’s the town?”
Eddie sighed, “Well, it wasn’t that crowded, all from town thankfully except for the eaten parties. Everyone reads the comics, they all had an idea what we could do, so it’s not out of nowhere. They’re a bit concerned about Bunny, sent me along with the tips she has and said she’s off two weeks to rest up. Dave calmed ‘em a great deal, said she just needs to rest fibbed saying the bullet got stuck in a rib. Didn’t mention her turning silver so they don’t know it all past she can hurl spoons at people.”
James, “I doubt if they knew it all they would treat her any worse.”
Victor, “Few have seen Jimmy’s claws before in our drunken tiffs before the war, haven’t said anything.”
Eddie, “Seems we won’t be chased out of town, just want to keep us safe. They know we wouldn’t hurt them. Sheriff joked they weren’t Nazis but they might do for breakfast. Something about they’ve been stirring up a fuss, apparently they were the ones who’ve been doing all those robberies just picked the wrong diner.”
James, “No kidding. She really picked spoons? Was the choice limited-,”
Eddie chuckled, “Empty tray of knives behind her, she wanted it to hurt.”
Victor, “I bet.”
.
Nights of distant pining stares at the missed chances to snuggle always ended with a spare blanket being draped around James’ bare skin he used as a buffer for your leeching powers that were far less necessary or effective with all the food you had been given. Days after you joined the brothers in searching the forest again squeaking at the excited bears also waking with young cubs born through hibernation months that bounded around you. The bond between you and the brothers clearly easing the mood and trust of their mothers now encircling you in their list of trusted ones.
.
Two weeks of rain on and off had come and gone signaling your readying to head off to the States. A drive to Ontario had you joining the guys through the entrance of the train station. You would start in the West and work your way East inspecting and touring schools on the agreed dates in a slew of train stops ending with a short recovery stay in New York that would ease a trip to Washington DC by use of the three hour train ride.
Two days you took in the sights on the ride all the way to California where the first school on the list instantly churned your stomach as a training ground for etiquette and husband hunting sending you off the campus and towards the beach to recover the day. Shoes in hand you felt your skirt billowing around your legs with feet in the sand giggling noticing Victor circling you with his camera for the best angle. A passing stranger agreed to snap a group photo and from there you all relaxed in the sun exploring the city until you had to get back to pick up your bags in the hotel to meet your next train.
State by state you fought so hard to not punch anyone as each and every stare from you to over your shoulder at the trio of men in search of the one supposedly claiming ownership of you. It was clear to the men and yet the oblivious women flitted around flirting and complimenting you trying to fluff up your ego wondering what use you could be to their future alumni. Each one not the most academically challenging but growing closer to being so the farther East you got. Every stop you all took in the sights and would be off again the next day to keep schedule while trying to keep one another occupied in the metal capsule taking you across the country in nearly two weeks.
In a low hum Victor asked, “What’s next?”
“Um, there’s one in Florida, and I think it was, Virginia?”
Victor looked at the brochures you passed him and asked, “Well how bout this, why don’t we just skip to that Barnyard school by Columbia?”
“Barnard? Why?”
James chortled, “Because it’s one of the two Ivy League related schools you’ve been set to tour and all the others are close to making me throw a chair to stop the talk of proper poise and perfecting womanhood. You are perfect, I vote Barnyard too.”
Rolling your eyes at Eddie’s agreeing nod you said, “Fine, we will stop by Barnard. We do at least have to look at Brown though.”
Eddie smirked, “Good, we can head straight to Brooklyn, Mom’s brother’s got that spare apartment we can borrow for our stay he’s been dragging on renting again just for us and take our time to scope Barnard out. See how the town’s changed. We can get everywhere else by train.”

What a weird era we are in
Sadly, I think Sarah Silverman is on to something.
Tumblr media
On May 27th, the death toll from covid-19 hit 100,000 Americans:
Tumblr media
Planet Earth has 6 million cases as of May 30th.
Tumblr media
Seven million on June 7th
Tumblr media
June 15th, we are at 2 million cases USA and 8 million on the planet (by the end of the day)
Tumblr media
On May 26th, it was announced that Lake County had its first case. A person who was tested (because we are now testing prior to surgery or procedures like colonoscopies) came up with a positive result, apparently a great surprise to that person, and puncturing the purity of zero-case-Lake-County. I hear that a person who lives with that person has symptoms, so, 2 cases. It begins. Not sure what exactly, but we are now in the First Case and Beyond era of Lake County Covid-19. As of today, there are 6 cases, and the saw mill was shut down because of a positive test result. Remember we have 4 ventilators, a nursing home, and a prison, all in our county. Thank goodness there is no meat packing plant.
In news from our household, Miss Valerie, in the wee hours after Memorial Day holiday, managed to move her legs out of the bed to go potty, and put weight on her left leg very wrong. She’s been using a walker ever since: the xray read “sprain.”  Which didn’t slow her down any. Nevertheless, we decided that first day of hobbling that it’s time to move the bedroom from the loft to the first floor; no use tempting fate. Her amazing family, including sister Karen and granddaughter Jessica, moved the bed and dressers, and piled up my yarn, while I was at work. I’ve spent the last two weekends sorting and rearranging my precious stash, and taking pictures of yarn I have too much of, to the delight of my Outback Knitters & Crocheters group. I sell top quality stuff for half price. Noro, Malabrigo, Rowan. I have plenty left. I’m knitting or crocheting on about a dozen projects at once. I may be a yarn hoarder, but I’m also prolific.
While we were dealing with Valerie’s knee, yet another black man was killed by police, this time in Minneapolis. He was apparently inebriated, passed an obviously fake 20 dollar bill to buy cigarettes, and was so drunk he didn’t know which way was up. He resisted arrest, because he was claustrophobic about being put in the back of the police car. He was handcuffed behind his back, and still, he was subdued by a white law enforcement officer named, irony alert, Officer Chauvin, who’s knee stayed on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds until he was dead. “I can’t breathe” has been cried out by several dead black men in recent years.
Tumblr media
Another hysterical white woman called the police on a black man who was ‘birding’ in Central Park. Watching her on the video, I’m thinking she’s on the Autism Spectrum. In any case, she freaked out when he told her she should put her dog on a leash in that part of the park which is clearly marked for leashed dogs, and she freaked, and he filmed it, knowing the video would protect him. The police came and looked at her funny and didn’t charge anyone with anything. She lost her job and her dog the next day.

The Fact Checker journalism organization has counted 19,127 false claims made by the president. The # 1 lie is that our economy is the best in all of human history:
Tumblr media
Covid-19 has revealed that essential working-class jobs don’t have benefits like sick leave, health insurance, or bosses who care more about their workers safety than their stockholder’s dividends. Home health aides and delivery people are essential, and suffer the most in the ‘gig economy’. Spain, Italy, and Sweden all have had a bad time with the coronavirus, but they have safety nets.
Humans swarmed the beaches over Memorial Day weekend. Lake County has six infected patients. Even Sean Hannitty of Fox News said in reaction, at least wear masks!
Covidiots. We are a long way from this:
Tumblr media
Since George Floyd was suffocated to death, there have been protests all over the world. His body is being buried in his hometown of Houston on June 8th. A tiny group of Lake County residents will walk peacefully from St. Luke’s to the County Courthouse, and we’ll kneel in silence for almost 9 long minutes.
This was what we posted:
Tumblr media
New York Times journalists Wesley Morris wrote:
“The most urgent filmmaking anybody’s doing in this country right now is by black people with camera phones. Their work comprises a ghastly visual mosaic of mistreatment, at best, and whose victims are international symbols of mourning: Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Sandra Bland. Art is not the intent. These videos are the stone truth. Quaking proof of insult, seasick funerals. Livestreamed or uploaded, or suppressed then suspiciously unearthed as found footage. Last week, the archive grew by two, and now the nation’s roiling.”
In my hometown of DC, Trump had prison police tear gas peaceful protestors in Lafayette Square so that he could strut in front of St. John’s Episcopal holding a bible upside down. Bishop Curry and Bishop Budde had fits. Mayor Muriel Bowser painted part of sixteenth street with street-width yellow letters: BLACK LIVES MATTER.
I’m glad Clara hasn’t been down there.
Trump’s polls are plummeting. Here’s what it feels like as he reacts like a tyrant, or a toddler having a tantrum:

On Wednesday, I’ll gather with the ‘social distancing knitters’ on the side of the church, because it is shady and green.
This past Sunday, one of my all-time favorite hymns was sung and I keep replaying the youtube video. And watching the sign language interpreter. It starts at minute 18:30:

How can the writer of those lyrics have such profound faith, such that “No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging, since Christ is lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?”
I feel so sad. Tears just under the surface. My neuroses have a long-established sturdiness, as does my firmly rooted anxiety disorder.  Combined with the horror of 100,000 American deaths, the horror of a president who is deeply cruel and only good at manipulating his followers as he promotes himself.
Tumblr media
I’d like to find an echo in my soul. I find peace in my yarn, and in this loft-home that Valerie and her sons made. And with Valerie, who cheerfully hobbles about, planning her garden and ‘fretting not.’  I pray for our nation, for Valerie’s knee, the well being of my family. I worry about the fires starting at the edge of Tucson where my childrens’ father lives, and the fires that are predicted around here. I knit. I worship. I sing.
