Trying something new! Pastel pieces on real wood slices.... And let me start by saying, I've been having a blast creating them! I started with family pets - like my brother's husky Boomer. And my sister's piggy Poppy 🖤 I've got several more to share already, I've been enjoying them so much and I hope I get to draw some of your pets on them too! They're available on my Etsy or you can send me a message to get started!

Tree isn't quite ready yet. It still needs something... would love to put a popcorn garland on there but the cats would eat a real one, and the fake ones are either ugly or prohibitively expensive
The raccoon plush is not the final topper either. Hoping I can find a wood-look or wicker star topper either at Michael's or Dollarama this weekend 🤞

Are these things I sell? Yes.
Does that make it shameless self promotion? No.
I mean, how else is anyone supposed to know I make things that you can purchase?

A Nepalese khukurī glossary
[abridged article by Peter Dekker, Mandarin Mansion Antiques, 2020; text and photographs licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License]
Introduction
A lot of the khukurī ( खुकुरी ) related vernacular in use today among collectors is based on oral traditions, and there is a lot of variety between the various glossaries that are scattered over the web. This is in part due to the various languages and dialects in use in the cultural melting pot that is Nepal.
Over time, concepts and terminology change, and on top of that many things are simply forgotten, misinterpreted, or misremembered. This article presents an annotated overview of historical khukurī terminology. The bulk of the terms come from the first Nepali-English dictionary, compiled by Sir Ralph Lilley Turner (1888 - 1983). In 1931 he wrote "A Comparative and Etymological Dictionary of the Nepali Language" which serves as the main source for the overview of terms that follows below. [1]
Tumblr media
Overview of khukurī parts
# English Devanagari Transliteration
1   Blade बाड़् bāṛ
2  Edge धार् dhār
3  Notch कौड़ो kauro
4   Grooves along the base of the blade खोल् khol
5   Shoulder of blade पातो pāto
6   Ridge (of fuller)* चिरा cirā
7   Grip बिँड़् bĩṛ
8   Bolster काँजो kã̄jo
9   Scabbard दाप् dāp, dāb
10 Silver chape कोथि kothi
11 Purse carried in the sheath खिसा khisā
12 Small utility knife कर्द karda
13 Fire striker / sharpening steel चक्मक् cakmak
*Cirā is the only word in the list that is not directly related to the khukurī in the dictionary, but it is probably the word that is widely known today as chirra.
According to Taylor, cirā is derived of cirnu, literally "To split, rip up, cut, lacerate" is the word used for the ridges between each groove. [2] It is also used in the slightly different form, ciro (चिरो) to describe: "A splinter; cut, slice; (esp.) a slice of cucumber cut lengthwise."
A number of khukurī types are differentiated by the layout of their fullers, or the absence thereof:
Tumblr media
Āṅa (आङ); flat, like a kitchen knife. [3]
Āṅa khol (खोल् आङ); a single fuller running along the spine. (Commonly called ang khola.)
Du'i cirā (दुइ चिरा); "two split", two fullers in the blade. (Commonly called dui chirra.)
Tīna cirā (तीन चिरा); "three split", three fullers in the blade. (Commonly called tin chirra.)
Terms relating to decoration
Buṭṭā (बुट्टा) or buṭo; Embroidery; braid; filigree work.
Bel-buṭṭā (बेल्-बुट्टा); Scroll-work on a khukri-sheath.
Belahari (बेलहरि); Embroidery, scroll-work.
Belahari buṭṭā (बेलहरि बुट्टा); Scroll-work on a khukri sheath.
Jire buṭṭā (जिरे बुट्टा); Fluted ornamentation (e.g. that on the silver of a khukri sheath). Jire means of or like cumin-seed.
Haikale buṭṭā (हैकले बुट्टा) a kind of ornamentation on a khukri handle like a succession of hooks.
Mākhe buṭṭā (माखे बुट्टा); Ornamentation consisting of lines of small dots. Mākhe means "pertaining to flies or like flies.
Sã̄gle buṭṭā (साँगले बुट्टा); Ornamentation in chains.
Materials
Paṭpaṭe (पट्पटे); adjective: Striped. Also a particular kind of tree the wood of which is used for making khukri handles (= bhālu kāṭh). Talauma Hodgsoni also known as Magnolia hodgsonii, or Chinese magnolia.
Gilaṭ (गिलट्); Nickel, German silver. Sometimes used for the bolster of a khukri.
Ispāt (इस्पात्); Steel.
Phaulād (फौलाद्); A kind of hard and tough steel. From the Persian faulād, a name for wootz.
Jhulo (झुलो); Fibre; tinder made of the bark of the sago palm or bamboo or plantain and carried in the pocket of the khukurī sheath.
Relating to the khukurī
Pāin or pain (पाइन्); Blade temper, especially of a khukurī.
Lāgne (लाग्ने); Applicable, sharp (of knife).
Bhutte (भुत्ते); Adjective. Blunt, e.g. bhutte khukri: a blunt khukri.
Ujyāunu (उज्याउनु); To sharpen, give an edge to.
Lagāunu dhār (लगाउनु धार्); to give an edge, sharpen. Lagāunu literally means: To put on, wear (clothes); arrange, fix, set up, plant.
Macāunu (मचाउनु); To make rise, flourish (e.g. a khukri).
Kāṭnu (काट्नु ); To cut, cut off; kill; reap.
Jār kāṭnu (जार् काट्नु) to kill an adulterer. (When the husband has killed the adulterer with his khukri and cut off the nose and hair, he proclaims openly in the village 'jār kāṭẽ' and displays the blood-stained khukri. This proclamation saves him from the accusation of murder.). Jār (जार्) means paramour, adulterer.
Caṛkinu (चड़्किनु); To crack, split (e.g. dewāl caṛkyo the wall cracked, khukuri ko bẽṛ carkieko cha the haft of the khukri is split).
Kāmi (कामि); Blacksmith, iron-worker, armorer. (This is one of the pohoni or despicable castes, and the word kāmi, implying contempt, is often replaced by lohār.)
Lohār (लोहार्) Iron-worker, blacksmith.
Notes 1. Sir Ralph Lilley Turner; A comparative and etymological dictionary of the Nepali language. London: K. Paul, Trench, Trubner, 1931. 2. I owe Jonathan Said for explaining that the chirra actually denote the ridges and not the fullers themselves. Personal communication. 3. Resham Shercha, an ex Gurkha. Personal communication.

It's the same anon who gives the cheese cake~
Could I have a part two for the Novelists S/O with Crime Fiction Genre? But this time the character is Yamaguchi, Sugawara, Daichi and Tsukishima.
Yamaguchi Tadashi, Sugawara Koushi, Daichi Sawamura, and Tsukishima Kei with Crime Fiction Novelists S/O.
➽───────────────❥➽───────────────❥
A/N: Hello there anon! I am surprised you liked my Novelist Headcanon so much because I don't really think anyone is going to like that headcanons and prefer fluff ones. Anyway, I hope you like the final result!
Gender: Neutral
Warning: None
➽───────────────❥➽───────────────❥
Yamaguchi Tadashi - Karasuno
Tumblr media
In this headcanon, I can see this precious Bean likes to read books, especially fiction and I believe he is fond of tons of genres but his main favourite is Slice of life because it can relate to him a lot, Action and Romance.
That doesn't mean he doesn't get interested in the other genres of the book. He would get interested in mystery crime fiction books and sometimes read them while listening to music or having tea.
Sometimes get a little bit nauseated when there is some part with too much gore and bloody scenes from inside the book and quickly skip that part.
Also your biggest cheerleader and supporter. He would love all of your crime fiction books and sometimes read all of your books when he had free time.
Definitely gonna watches all of the movies that were adapted from your book. Sometimes watching the movies together with you and would get disappointed when some scenes weren't added to the movie.
Since he is in college preparatory class when he was in high school. I believe he has better English than his other teammates. Thus, he could help you in fixing your grammatical errors.
Unlike Futakuchi and Koiganegawa, he's not much of a bragger and I believe Yamaguchi prefers that no one knows that he has a popular author as his S/O.
The reason is that he doesn't want his teammate to interrogate him (Especially Tanaka, Sugawara, Tsukishima and Nishinoya) and he's afraid if your fans don't like him (reassure, your fans actually loves him once you reveal your marriage with him).

Third-Person POINT OF VIEW:
The city of Tokyo is decorated by the lights from the street lamps as outside of the buildings there were piles of snow everywhere. It was such a bright city with people around there trotting around the streets to spend their time together with their loved ones or alone. It was not an exception with a certain couple inside of the small restaurant.
A person with (H/C) hair colour with (H/L) Hair length sitting across from their/her/his boyfriend with a smile adorned on the face. (Y/N) eyes would look at the person across from you with heart in your eyes. The two of you had finally a free day to hang out together and celebrate Christmas.
Another person with dark greyish-green hair with a flyaway piece of hair sticking up at the top, freckles that are cutely adorned on his face, and a set of amber-coloured eyes staring at you back before shifting his eyes away from you, cheeks tinted pink and red. In your honest answer, seeing him getting all shy makes him even look cuter.
"I-i'm really sorry (Y/N) that I could not bring you to a better place. I-i was going to bring you to your favourite place but it was full of people and I was late to book a seat for the two of us," Yamaguchi stutters. "It's alright, sweetheart. You're trying your best to make me happy so I still appreciate you bringing me to this place. It's pretty cosy, especially the decorations make it feels homier," (Y/N) reassure him.
The place was decorated with many Christmas ornaments from the Christmas tree, the white Christmas song from the radio, the floor and walls made of mahogany woods, and a set of green and red decorations around the place. Even though it was just a small restaurant, you appreciate the simple and beautiful decoration of the room.
"I know it's near Christmas but what's with this occasion with you spoiling me, sweetheart? You know we usually just spend Christmas together by watching Christmas together with popcorn and hot chocolate." "I-i know but it's just...I was so proud of you that many people enjoy your book and adapting your book into a movie and I wanted to do something special for you," he stutters and glances at the floor once again.
(Y/N) was speechless for a few seconds, she/he.they did not expect that their/his/her beloved boyfriend would go as far as this just to make (Y/N) happy. This makes your heart thud faster by his cute action and you couldn't help but smile before sitting closer to him. Wrapping your arms around his waist and putting your head on the crook of his neck, causing Yamaguchi to blush to get worse than before.
"U-uhm... (Y/N)-chan?" he almost squeaks in happiness
"Thank you, yams. For everything," (Y/N) whispers, hugging him closer to your arms.

Sugawara Koushi - Karasuno
Tumblr media
The chaotic mom of Karasuno, another supportive boyfriend or husband who would definitely love all of your mystery crime fiction books.
Sugawara definitely gonna brag about you to the third years, especially to Daichi just to annoy the hell out of him or to Asahi, sometimes making them jealous.
I don't think he's much of a novel lover even though there's a time he does read novel books. However, it is only when he has free time and when he is bored. It's not really his hobby.
Sugawara definitely finds some scenes interesting when he sees the detective of the book or the main character of the book solving the case with their intelligence.
Sugawara also can be very caring so each time you are working, he would prepare hot coffee, chocolate, or hot tea for you when you accidentally fell asleep. he would lay a blanket on top of you.
Also makes some lunches or dinners for you when you are too busy writing down a scene but it's not anything fancy. There would be a time he would also give you your favourite food.
It is canon that he is smart even though he is not in the college preparatory class but I believe he has great quality in English Skills. Hence, he could help you with grammar, pronunciation, and ideas for the book.
Scolds you if you are overworking yourself or getting angry at yourself when you feel you're going to be a failed author. He would maka-chop the back of your head, "NEGATIVITY! BEGONE!" You: Ouch! What the hell?!
Ⰶ║ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ║Ⰶ
First-Person Point of View:
The sound of the clock latched on the wall keeps ticking each second as if it's taunting me for wasting all of my time with a certain page of the book that I'm making right now. It's getting harder for me to write down the second season of the book that I'm working on because all of the readers want more action in this book.
At first, there were many ideas I could get to make the story has more action and fighting scenes for the book but as soon I was in the middle chapter of the book. These ideas were gone and limited since they would not make any sense at all. This gives me a little bit of a headache because I want a book that authors and readers could enjoy together.
It feels like a heavy weight was placed on top of my shoulder and trying to take me down. "Did I fail? Fail writing a good story? Why I am this useless. This should have been easy but what if none of my viewers not gonna like the result of my book and attack me," I whisper to myself. Not every reader is toxic but some of them could get a little bit intense.
One of the most popular authors in here got tons of hate comments in their emails from their haters and fans. The readers did not like the ending of the book, not satisfied. All of them also attacked the author of the book for not shipping their favourite characters together. She told me, they went far as blackmailing her and this scares me a lot.
SLAP
I can feel a painful sting on the back of my head, almost making me choke on my own saliva and I turn around to give a piece of my mind to whoever hit me on my head until I see my boyfriend glaring at me. He has nice light grey locks and hazel-brown eyes with a birthmark mole under his left eye.
"B-babe?" I question him. "NO NEGATIVITY IN HERE! DON'T MAKE FUN OF YOURSELF!" Sugawara chides, glaring at me with both arms crossed together. "....Don't hit my head like that," I frown at him. "THEN DON'T LOOK AT YOURSELF AS A FAILURE. Why are you thinking like that (Y/N)-san" his voice got softer at the last part.
I was silent for a little bit because it was hard to explain my fear of failing my books and causing my followers to hate me but I tried my best to explain to him. Sugawara would nod his head off, showing that he does understand my concern and my fear. I did not expect Sugawara would sit next to me and wrap his arms around me, pulling me closer to his body.
He was warm and there was a comforting sweet smell coming out from him. The scent that comes out from him surprisingly smells like coffee and he did take a shower a few minutes ago. " (Y/N)-san. Remember this, okay? There will be always a hater around you but that doesn't mean you should run away from them. Escaping them only makes them happier and they would think they won. That's why, you don't need to listen to those who cannot see your effort. Remember those who are always on your side and supporting you, especially those who are there from the beginning."
Ⰶ║ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ║Ⰶ
Daichi Sawamura - Karasuno
Tumblr media
Daichi is not the type of person who enjoys reading books with more than just one hundred pages just like Sugawara. He prefers books that don't have hundreds of pages because he mostly spends his time in volleyball, taking care of the house, and doing other important things.
He prefers just watching the movie or tv-shows version of your book instead of reading the novel book that you had made. Not because he thinks novel books are boring but rather because he doesn't really understand the plot story if it's in the book.
Unlike Yamaguchi or Sugawara. He couldn't help you much with grammar, pronunciation and ideas for the book because the two of them have better skills than him in English.
But that doesn't mean he is not someone who is supportive. In fact, you're happy to have a boyfriend or husband like him and you wouldn't ask others.
He could be as caring and Loving as Sugawara without slapping or hitting your head in the back and screaming 'NEGATIVITY BEGONE!' but still strict.
Would scold you if you ever overwork yourself and try to make you rest on the bed. Daichi would also tell you to stop overworking yourself because he didn't want you to get sick.
Since it's canon that he would be a cop. There would be a time he would need your help to solve some cases and he is thankful for your book and movies because the cases could get solved faster.
Definitely brags to the other cops in the police station that he has an amazing S/O who his an author. Causing the other cops either get jealous or amazed.
Ⰶ║ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ║Ⰶ
Third-Person Point of View:
It was around two in the afternoon and the city was really hot because of the sun's rays shining through the sky. Many people were sweltering because of the heat, especially the certain person with (H/C) hair colour, (E/C) eye colour and (S/C) skin colour. (Y/N) standing in the middle of the city together with Daichi next to her/him/them.
But you are not alone with Daichi. (Y/N) in fact actually together with other people that were scattering around, shouting and trying to set up some cameras whereas the director was standing next to you and Daichi. Showing the scripts and some scenes from the book, asking you some questions.
"So, inside this scene. The detective is chasing the serial killer, right?" The director asks you. "Yes but before that. The detective made a call with some of his friends or partners so they could trap the escaping serial killers together," (Y/N) explain to the taller man. "Alright, I'll give a quick briefing to all of the cast," the director says before walking away.
Daichi could not help but he could feel his heart bursting with happiness as if his heart just got flipped upside down. He gently placed his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him and kissing the temple of your head. This sudden affection made (Y/N) blush, not expecting Daichi to be this affectionate.
"Daichi-san?" You ask him "I'm proud of you, (Y/N)-san. You made a great movie and story. I might haven't read your book but I'm sure the movie will turn out great," he whispered closer into (Y/N)'s ear. "D-daichi...." you got more embarrassed than before.
Daichi sees the redness on your cheeks and couldn't help but chuckle, 'Cute' he thought. Cupping your cheeks before kissing the tip of your nose and pulling away, not caring that he even made you shyer than before. "You know, thanks to your book and movies. I could solve some difficult cases," he said.
"Really?"You ask him, eyes wide. "Exactly, there were some cases that haven't got solved in a month until I watch those shows that were inspired by your book. It helps me a lot," his hand gently squeezes your shoulder. "I'm glad my book can help a little bit. I was just inspired by some cases and think....maybe there are some patterns that could get recognized and can be tracked," you told him.
Hearing those words made Daichi even more surprised than before. He knew that it needs lots of thought when you are writing down a crime fiction and you writing them down even proofing himself that he has a very smart boyfriend/girlfriend. This causes Daichi even more proud of all of your hard work.
Ⰶ║ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ║Ⰶ
Tsukishima Kei - Karasuno
Tumblr media
I can smell that this salt tower is definitely someone who loves novel books, especially those that have hundreds of pages and has several series on them.
So, I can see Tsukishiam does enjoy the books that you made and published. Especially something like Crime fiction, mystery, or any fiction that could make his brain thinks hard.
He is not gonna admit it but he is also a huge fan of your works, reading them whenever he can and when you are not looking because he doesn't want you to tease him.
Secretly also buys the merch of your work from online stores or from those events but if you ask him about it. He would completely deny it.
The salt is secretly supportive but he didn't show it directly like Sugawara and Yamaguchi did. It would be very subtle and you had to be really observant to know it.
He is intelligent so there would be a time he would help with the grammar inside of your book as well as the pronunciation and giving ideas for your book.
And sometimes would clap back at those haters on the internet that were talking shit behind your back. Calling them that at least you're talented unlike those who are just sleeping around and doing nothing.
With all of those positive traits, there is just one thing you cannot stand even though he's supportive. Tsukishima would sometimes make fun of the way you write certain characters and it can be really annoying.
Ⰶ║ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ║Ⰶ
Third Person Point of View:
Certain people say that Author is one of the most fun jobs because you could write down any creative ideas for a story. In a certain aspect, it is right but also not. A certain person with (H/C) hair colour and (E/C) eye colour staring at the screens from the website where people can read books and create them.
Despite all of the positive comments that (Y/N) has gotten from all of the readers and viewers. There were some nasty and hateful comments from anonymous accounts. It wasn't just a simple angry critic but it was also a nasty comment about how the book is not worth it and how to suck the author this. "DON'T READ THIS BOOK!" "THE CREATOR CANNOT WRITE!" "THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN UP. IT'S OBVIOUS THIS BOOK SUCKS"
You did expect hateful and spiteful words from these kinds of people because some people just can be heartless but it was still hurtful whenever reading those kinds of comments. Pressing the button of the phone, the screen of your phone turns black in a second and you decide to just forget all of this.
(Y/N) did not realize a pair of yellowish eyes were staring at his wife/husband from behind the door. He wanted just to come up to you and try to cheer you up but that only going to raise your anger more. You're not the type that prefers to be left alone whenever you had a bad mood.
Tsukishima carefully closes the door, trying to not make any noises to alarm (Y/N) and after that. Tsukishima went to the other room, pulling out the phone from his pocket before creating another anonymous account. He is surely going to make those people regret their words with his words that even nastier than theirs.
On the other hand, the man pressed the enter button and rolls his eyes once he was done reading the book. The person did not care whether his comment causes the author hurt or not, 'It's a free country. I can say anything I want,' the old man scoffs until he hears a ping sound from his phone. The bald man immediately turns his phone to see what's going on and he was surprised to see another comment replying to him. An anonymous comment telling him that at least the author is working and can make money on her/their/his own unlike him, just sitting there eating grease with pizza all over him.
The man could not help but seethe in anger before he stood up from the couch, taking his phone in his palm and throwing it across the room, shattering it into smaller pieces.

(grace coming out of the void tag)
He mixes Eddie a passable gin and tonic, adding a little squeeze of lime and a couple cucumber slices, while Jeff heads back out to the party.
“So, you and Helen…?” Steve asks. He thinks he sounds totally normal. Casual, even.
Eddie laughs, then stops abruptly. “Oh, shit. You’re serious? I’m gay, dude.”
“Oh.”
“I—huh. I really thought you knew.” Eddie looks thoughtful. He’s frowning a little. “Guess this puts a few things into context. Gonna be honest, I’m surprised you missed it. Hell, I’m surprised Robs didn’t spill the beans one way or another. Love her to death, but our girl’s not the greatest with keeping a lid on things.”
Steve feels a wash of heat in his face, and he’s not even really sure why. “I mean…it’s not like I didn’t guess you were, y’know, something. I thought—bisexual, maybe?”
It’s not totally true, but it’s not totally false, either. Steve hadn’t gotten so far as putting any specific words around what he thought Eddie might be or what Eddie might like, he’d just wondered in a formless sort of way.
“Nah,” says Eddie. “I mean, never say never, but. Historically, no.”
Steve lets the word historically roll around in his jaw, in his back teeth. He feels okay about it, he decides. He knows it’s not—Steve had a serious long-term girlfriend less than a month ago. He’s just always been the jealous type, even when he knows it’s not right or fair. He’s working on it.
Steve gets these stories in his head, is the problem. He gets to thinking like everything’s going to work out because it has to; like all the pain and bullshit will all make sense someday and be worth it.
It’s kid stuff, thinking that way. Sometimes things just hurt, and there’s no point to it. Sometimes pain’s just pain, and Steve Harrington is single at Christmas again, dying slow in a one-horse town.
“Hey, this G&T’s pretty good,” says Eddie. He grins all bright and boyish, looking nineteen again for a second. “Thanks, man.” He tips his glass towards Steve in a little salute, then saunters out of the kitchen.
———
Once, Steve had asked his mom: why didn’t you guys ever move out of Hawkins?
I don’t know, Steven, she’d said. Well, your dad’s job was here. We thought it was a nice safe town for you to grow up in. Don’t you like Hawkins?
Steve had shrugged and said sure and that had been the end of it. He does like Hawkins. He likes seeing familiar faces around, though it seems like there’s fewer of those every year. He likes how safe it feels, because he’s made it that way. He’s bled for Hawkins. Feels like that’s some kind of bond he can’t break. Sometimes at night when he can’t sleep, he grabs his old nail bat and goes to stand out in the woods, breathing hard, waiting for something anything anything to come at him.
Nothing ever has, not since 1986. It makes him feel a little crazy to remember that the time when he fought monsters and Russians was only about three years all told. It had felt like forever at the time. He really had thought that that was going to be his life, his real life. Everything else—school, work, girls—had felt like stuff he’d been doing in his downtime between the real stuff: hauling around ungrateful brats and beating the shit out of the forces of evil like something out of Saturday morning cartoons.
But it’s been six years of downtime, and lately he’s been wondering if that’s just how life goes. Vivid and wild at the start, but then the colors fade.
Last year, he’d gone to Christmas at Laura’s parents’ house. It had been a big house that looked almost exactly like the one he’d grown up in, with twinkling white lights outside; inside was a big tree by a crackling fireplace. There’d been an Irish Setter named Dooley who was pretty great. All the ornaments had matched. He’d had two glasses of white wine and went home by nine to have perfectly good sex with Laura and go to sleep at a reasonable hour.
He’d woken up at two in the morning for no reason. He couldn’t grab his bat and go into the woods because Laura had been right there sleeping next to him, so he’d just stared up at the ceiling not thinking about anything as his heart beat faster and faster for a very long time. He’d known then that he had to break up with Laura, even though they’d only been going out for a couple months, but he kept putting it off because it just hadn’t seemed worth it to end things. There hadn’t seemed to be any point.

Shinsou doesn’t know why he came. He looks stupid with this yule log he’s spent far too long working on for some (there is a very specific) reason entering a party that has been going on long enough for it to be weird to come in late. It’s crowded and stuffy with his usually uptight coworkers rocking ugly Christmas sweaters talking too loud with boozy breath.
“Shinsou!” Denki shouts from the center of a horde in the middle of the room.
It didn’t matter when it was or who he was with, Kaminari was always at the center of everyone’s attention. Shinsou liked to think that he thought of Kaminari more than everyone else and in a more meaningful way but there was no way in hell he was the only one in the office with a crush on the embodiment of sunshine. In an instant, Kaminari is picking a cookie off of Kirishima’s plate, leaving him deflated with the rest of the abandoned group that looks completely lost in Denki’s absence.
“For you,” Denki says, holding out a misshapen gingerbread cookie.
“Sure it’s not for Kirishima?”
“Not anymore!”
Something as brash as stealing a friend's cookie would usually get on Shinsou’s nerves. But on Kaminari it was cute. He was cute in his maroon turtleneck and light-up ornament earrings. The red hues illuminated his face and brought out the slight flush on his cheeks. He must’ve been drinking but Shinsou would let himself think it was because of his presence.
“Oh dude! You brought the log!” Kaminari shouts. He leans down and looks at the yule log that left Shinsou with flour in places it should never be and sore feet like it was the 8th wonder of the world. “I’ve never had one before.”
“‘S why I made it.”
The moment comes racing back to Shinsou in fine detail from how many times he’s run it through his mind. The way that Kaminari glowed in the light of the setting sun as they walked out of the office. The look of absolute confusion that warped his soft features into sharp and jagged lines as he interrogated Shinsou about ‘how the hoot do you make cake look like wood and why would you want to do that?’ The way that Kaminari leaned a little closer than necessary into Shinsou’s space on the train ride home and nudged his shoulder in goodbye after.
“You made me cake that looks like a log and you came to a party when you’re Hitoshi ‘I don’t like parties’ Shinsou? You’re making me feel like a little princess today, man.”
Shinsou simply shrugs and shifts on his feet. He wants to preen at the attention and acknowledgment that yes, he very intently listens to Kaminari but does his best to only minimally show it.
“Would you, uh, like to try some?”
Shinsou was really failing the challenge he set for himself to use his brain for once around Kaminari for anything besides fuck his smile is so beautiful.
“Would I?! Hell yeah, man. Here, lemme get you some mulled cider while we’re at it. I like mine so mulled you kinda cough so sorry but you seem like the type to be into that,” Kaminari says with a wink.
Shinsou isn’t even sure what that means but he feels like it’s flirty so he’d gladly take it and more. Kaminari turns and gets him a cup while he carefully cuts Kaminari a slice.
“I’m really happy you decided to come,” Kaminari says softly.
“Well I’m really happy I came.”
Kaminari snorts and whips around to face Shinsou, his drink sloshing up against the sides. “You did what Shinsou?!”
“Never mind. Not happy I came anymore.”
Kaminari bugs his eyes out and drops his jaw. “You’re not happy you did what?!”
“Do you become even more ridiculous when you have all that extra mulled cider in you?”
“Only a little. I didn’t wanna get too drunk in case you came.”
And that, wow. That…had to mean something.
“Can I try?” Kaminari asks, pointing to the slice of cake that had been sitting dumbly in Shinsou’s hand.
“Yeah, sure. We could, uh. Well we could,” Why was it so difficult to say? He’d thought through everything that he was going to say to Kaminari to move this whole thing forward past lunches at the office and quiet laughter shared on train rides home. “Would you like to eat it outside on the front steps? I know it’s cold but it’s also quite hot in here so…”
He felt so unbelievably stupid like some teenage boy asking out his crush to prom. But the way Kaminari lights up and almost drops his drink makes it all worth it.
“Yeah! I mean,” Kaminari clears his throat. “That would be cool, sure. My coat’s by the door so we can grab it on the way out.”
Shinsou ducks his chin into the scarf he still wore to hide the dopey grin spreading across his face. Kaminari was cute. He was unbelievably and undeniably cute.
Getting out to the front steps of the office seems to pass by in a whirlwind despite all of the stopping Kaminari has to do as people ask about where he’s going. Kaminari should be staying in and chatting it up with their much more interesting colleagues but Kaminari remains by his side slowly inching closer and closer to the door.
“Bah, it’s not even that cold out,” Kaminari says as they finally push open the heavy glass doors. “Sometimes I thank global warming in a totally selfish way, you know.”
“I’ve certainly done the same myself.”
It was far warmer than it should be but it was still chilly enough for Kaminari’s nose to begin to tinge red. He wanted to lean in and tuck Kaminari into his coat to share his warmth more than anything but they hadn’t crossed that line. At least not yet.
“Oh, your food,” Shinsou says.
He couldn’t forget the entire reason behind his excuse to get Kaminari alone. They swap drink for cake in an awkward fumble that leaves their hands brushing more frequently than necessary.
“We can try them at the same time,” Shinsou offers.
“That’s cute. Sure.” Kaminari holds out the piece of cake pierced on his fork. “Cheers?”
“Cheers.”
He isn’t sure whether the warmth that surges through his body is from the cider or the way that Kaminari keeps his eyes tracked on Shinsou as he takes his first bite but it was welcome. Even though it was just the two of them out on the cold concrete steps outside of their office, it felt good to get out and be around people no matter how much he hated parties. Thoughts of future parties with Kaminari by his side where he was also right in the middle of the action come swirling through his mind.
“‘As eally uckeng ood,” Kaminari gushes around his mouthful of cake.
“And the mulled cider is, in fact, very mulled. I get what you mean about it making you want to cough in a good way.”
“A man after my heart.”
“Yeah.”
“Shinsou?”
“Hm?”
“Why did you come?”
There’s weight behind the words. Kaminari’s regular jovial spirit lingers but there is a hesitancy behind it all he’s not used to seeing on his coworker.
He stops in the middle of taking another sip. “Because you asked?”
It feels like the wrong answer and he knows it is when Kaminari’s shoulders rise a bit.
“I mean, was there another reason? I know I like, okay ulterior motive sounds really sleazy but I had a not so sleazy ulterior motive…or maybe it is kinda sleazy? I dunno. Depends on why you said yes? But I had an ulterior motive.”
Shinsou swirls the cider around in his cup for a moment in thought. This was it. The moment he’d been waiting for when this dance they’d been doing around their feelings could end.
“I came because I like you. So maybe I’m the sleazy one here.”
“Does being mutually sleazy with ulterior motives mean that the sleaziness cancels out and we’re just two guys crushing on one another trying to have someone special to spend Christmas with?” Kaminari asks.
“I’d say so, yeah.”
This whole moment didn’t feel real. He’d almost expected something more grandiose. But the casualness of it all didn’t mean that his heart wasn’t hammering in his chest.
“Would you like to go on a date with me this weekend?” Shinsou asks.
“Yeah,” Kamianri leans over so his head is resting on Shinsou’s shoulder. “I would. As long as I can take some leftovers of that yule log.”
“You can have the whole thing if you want.”
“Damn, I love Christmas,” Kaminari sighs.
