I think if kitsunes or nekomata were real than they'd be a big thing of animal rehabs or other places that treat wild animals needing to untangle their tails. Like 100% old kitsunes who done't have the same flexibility to groom themselves get all their tails tangled together and matted.
So there are just a million photos on fantasy Tumblr of kitsunes with the caption "Found this senior baby at the edge of the forest. Issues in his back didn't let him groom his tails properly so they came in all matted together. Not a fan of the bath and clippers but we got him untangled." and it's just the grumpiest nine-tailed fox who is 100% gonna curse someone or try to eat your liver.

Worldbuilding questions to get the creative juices flowing 35
Theme: Jobs, Employment, Work
Tumblr media
What are common jobs? What are rare jobs? Why are these jobs common, uncommon, etc? Are the common jobs well wanted? Are the common jobs safe? (Awful working conditions can still be popular and well wanted jobs)
Are there any high paying jobs? If so why are these jobs high-paying? Do people like that these jobs are high paying?
In what ways are working conditions mandated? Are these regulations moral and/or properly followed? Are there unions? Are people currently trying to change working conditions? Do the majority expect a change?
What does the average worker look like? What workers do you tend to see walking around? (Salaryman, soot covered factory worker, mailmen bikers, etc.)
Do children work? Is retirement possible (and morally so)? Is work affected by gender norms? Species norms? Class norms? More? Who doesn’t work?
If your world has magic how does that affect jobs? Depending on your world’s level of technology, how does technology affect jobs? Is technology or magic used in jobs? Are species abilities used in jobs?
How are workers paid? Is the money salary usually worth it?
How do most people get to work? How do some notable jobs get to work? Where do people work? What are well known places?
Do world/society conflicts or changes affect work? If so, in what ways? (Civil rights movements, war, riots, more)
What are cultural beliefs on different jobs?
Is there free time? Is the economy good? If not, is there any inflations, recessions, depressions, or more occurring?
My Examples:
The nation of Mondie in my SOA worldbuilding project has most workers separated by their magic/abilities, due to cultural norms that advocate for people to pick jobs easier to their abilities. Fire elementals work in forges, illusive spellcasters don’t mind being lobbyist, spies, or critics, those with super strength can easily tote around materials for construction.
Healers of any type have the most leeway and opportunity for work. The dangerous working conditions of the common Mondiean workforces has opened up a position for on the job healers. They also have medical careers, military careers, and more open to them.
If you walked down the streets of the Mondie you would see a place constantly bustling with life. Bakers with aprons powdered in flour  would be hanging out the windows of their stores announcing their specialty recipes and cheap choices for the day. Factory workers and miners come piling out of the large industrial descenders, coated in the soot and ash from the underground magma districts. Young paper boys help guide loose messengers to their proper location, biking after some particularly fast ones in hopes of getting better tips.

Worldbuilding idea
I’ve had the idea of an “Immortality Support Group” for a while now, and while its been done, I don’t think many have had meetings hosted INSIDE members, as the group would include genius loci and living/sapient cities that can’t travel.

Horror isekai where Perceiving the Weird Eldritch Thing gets you catapulted into a nightmare labyrinth of puzzle-solving.
I.e Those Who Perceive The Hunt of the Goblin King Must Partake In The Labyrinth and Can Only Be Freed If They Complete It In One Day and One Night. By Fae Law. For Reasons.
But the definition of “perception” clearly needs to be updated because some normal guy simply films the Hunt of the Goblin King Behind Arby’s, and puts it on Facebook -
No, not instagram or TikTok, it’s important that it be Facebook -
Because the rules are pretty clear, “the rules are the rules” as is carved ominously in elvish runes above the grim gate, and the Contract is Sealed. and so therefore the guy and 25 of their most random real-life acquaintances must run the gauntlet together. It’s Some Guy, their immediate neighbors, their first partner’s mom, their friends from hobby Facebook groups (oh this poor guy and their hobbies; the elderly birdwatchers from Facebook and the young up-and-coming drag king community), their random teen kid niece, college friends, a dog who also watched the video, a couple consisting of a woman who is the guy’s Facebook friend and showed her husband the video, and the husband doesn’t even know Some Guy, so he’s in the labyrinth and absolutely furious about being forced to be involved, and they proceed to break up over the course of the puzzle.
It’s important that the narrative keeps trying to be a sexy dark horror isekai! but within this the comedic reality of Catherine, 52, the guy’s horse-riding instructor, being passionately involved in escape-room-style puzzle solving and grappling with minor goblins. They are in fact speedrunning the gauntlet.
The Goblin King finally has to say: all right, actually, I only really set all this up to fuck with one (1) guy at a time, thanks for your willingness to participate, but I think all 25 of you can consider the gauntlet fully run.
And the group would be quite hurt by that. The rules are the rules. We have a contract, actually. Let Catherine cook.

So the Blockchain is stupid for currency but I think something similar would be a really good safety/continuity feature for a composite or distributed consciousness.
Like you have multiple independent consciousnesses but they all work in tandem and validate all changes as part of the whole, and keep a ledger of thoughts etc, that way they have a pseudo backup of the whole in each part, and it'd be easy to identify and roll back a compromised segment.

Magic is the blood of the soul. Some people have magical iron deficiency, others have magic leukemia. There are different kinds of magic, different types.
Tears are the blood of the soul. When a soul bleeds, the person cries.
Tears are magic. Shed in sorrow, shed in pain, shed in grief, anger, hatred, sadness, fear, or in love, happiness, surprise, acceptation, hope.
Magic can be liquid. It falls to the ground, giving birth to flowers with unique properties. Bladepetal that gives strength and soothes pain grows from tears of warriors. Mementoia grows from the tears of mothers grieving their children. Aladus grows from tears of disbelief of being loved.
Magic can be solid. Dried tears turned to salt, they can make metal glossy and channeling pure emotion, unlocking abilities when attuned to the right feeling.
Magic can be gas. We can smell the world the way it was when we cried and remember things we have forgotten. Evaporated tears are in the air everywhere, carrying memories in them, and not everyone can feel the scent, not everyone can look into the past of others.
You can bleed your soul to death by crying so much it dies.
Magic is the blood of the soul. Blood of the soul is tears. Tears are magic.
And I haven't cried in a long, long time. And everyday, I wonder if my soul is dead.

Worldbuilding Prompt 1
Worldbuild a civilization/city that runs efficiently in an extreme environment

Places you should add to your little town/city in your fantasy world!!
Post offices. Wild, I know. But give me the unhinged kind. Pingeons and little postal dragons all over the place. You enter. The most disgusting smell fucking assaults your nostrils. You know what it is. Letter in hand, you go up to the counter. The postal worker is just a slightly bigger pigeon. You shed a tear.
PLAYGROUNDS!! Create the most dangerous kinds of playgrounds, the ones suburban moms would TRIP if they ever saw one. Monkey bars that are way too tall, swings that go full circle... The metal slide stays the same, it's already painful enough.
PARKS!! MAKE IT ALIVE!! Show people going on walks, reading beneath trees. C'mon most of them are already hundred years old (And are going to die after that CR 15 creature wrecks the town) anyways!! Show couples and picnics, show a family enjoying the sunday, give me someone picking flowers for their loved ones.
A bakery! Do you know how much these places are underrated? And do you know how much plot potential they have? Every good story starts with food poisoning or granny's recipe! Give me a place your players/readers are going to treat like home and, for once, it's not a tavern or a guild.
Government buildings! Give me a town hall that has a kilometric line in front of it. Give me a registry that is as old as this town. Give me police stations! Give me courtrooms! Make one of your players get arrested and now all of the party has to go through burocracy like a bunch of normal people!
(Who am I kidding? You don't need to make them get arrested. They are going to do that for you.)
Touristic attractions! Give me a full-on statue of the country's leader! Give me museums! Give me streets, ruins and whatnot that attract thousands of tourists everyday! Give me an annoying city guide that tries to get the party's attention everytime!
Magazine stands! Magazines don't exist? Newspaper stands! From the Queen's Journal to the most questionable new piece of Fox's Tailtracker, you have it all! Make your players doubt what's actually happening, sprinkle a little fake news... Or is it fake at all?
...Toy stores. OK HEAR ME OUT. Make magic toys; miniature skyships that actually fly, metal toy dragons that expel fire, little wands that make little light spells, wooden creatures that can move and make noises... Make children happy! And your players too because they will waste their money on these stuff.
Instrument store!! Make your bards happy with special instruments or just weird ones! Give me a battle in one of those that is just filled with funny noises and the worst battle soundtrack ever!!
Not exactly a place but... Cleaning carts!!! Show me people cleaning the streets, picking up the trash, cutting trees!! Make the town look clean!! Give me an old man that is really proud of his work!!!
(or ways to make your players feel even worse when the villain destroys the town later on :) )

Okay it's four in the morning and I'm not entirely right in the head and I absolutely have not thought through the ramifications of this in its entirety, but
Garleans can't use aether, but they can affect and be affected by dynamis. we've seen this in canon.
Culturally Garleans seem to have a lot of emotional repression, breaking through only when pushed to extremes, which has no doubt prevented them from actualizing the combat potential of dynamis in the past. There is now an opportunity for this to change.
as they rebuild and reform their culture we should see Garlean bards becoming a thing, and they should invent heavy metal

thinking about Pokemon depictions in-universe. the few times we see something like that it tends to stick to the actual Pokemon designs, but humans love to portray IRL animals as all sorts of weird colors. imagine kids walking around with rainbow Eevee plushies and the like
Tumblr media
and that's not getting into the idea of in-universe cryptids. I feel like we got a bit of a taste of this with the paradox 'mon sketches, but those were at least based on something real. I wanna hear all about some incredible powerful mythical Pokemon and then it turns out not only does it 100% not exist but it's also apparently just a Wobbuffet with a horn
