After seeing Ciri’s hair get more and more intricate in season three my roommate and I have decided that Geralt and Yennifer are the ones to do her hair and the reason it’s better and more complicated than last season I’d because Geralt used to be the only one to do her hair but then Yennifer started helping and they got more and more competitive of who could make the better braids.
The thing I find most interesting with immortal fictional characters is when the narrative does not also establish that they have some kind of magically gifted memory because on the one hand you have the comedy potential of:
“This was a major defining traumatic life event that took 3 years for you. Personally, I’m having a fucking stressful Spring Break. Trust me, this is nothing compared to the 50 year siege of the lost empire.”
And on the other hand you get the pure existential horror of:
“I know that I have loved many people. Some of them I remember perfectly, some I have forgotten, and I dread the day when the ones I can recall inevitably fade like all the others. I am sometimes furious that time has ripped them from me and sometimes so very relieved that the pain has dimmed with the centuries.”
Anyway, probably this is just creators not considering it, but duality of character etc etc. I just think it’s neat…
I'm not saying Liam won't do a good job as Geralt but as a person who didn't play the games or read the books until after watching the show, Henry Cavill will always be Geralt to me. His portrayal is what got me interested in this franchise. He is to Geralt as Robert Downey Jr. is to Iron Man and the show will never be the same. I haven't decided if I will continue watching after season 3. If I do it will only be because I love Joey Batey as Jaskier. I haven't been this hopelessly disappointed since Game of Thrones season 8...
