Coin's Resources for Research
Here's a list of my personal favorite resources for researching witchcraft, magic, and the occult!
Tumblr media
Websites
Sacred Texts - This site is a collection of electronic texts about religion, mythology, legends and folklore, and occult and esoteric topics. Almost all of it is in the English language (translated) and when possible they give the original language (which is quite often)!
Jstor - Home to thousands of scholarly content. While there are limitations to the open and free content on the site, they still have quite a lot to offer! If you can afford the paid version I highly suggest you do so.
Wikipedia - I don't care what your high school lit teacher told you, Wikipedia is a great resource and a wonderful way to find where to start when you're learning a new topic.
Encyclopedia Britannica - A fact-checked online encyclopedia with hundreds of thousands of objective articles, biographies, videos, and more.
Hoopla - A digital library where you can borrow books, audio books, and more! It's connected to your local library so make sure you get a library card!
Libby - Same situation as Hoopla.
Worldcat - A website that helps you track down reliable sources that you can only find in libraries.
PDFDrive - A website with thousands of free pdfs. It doesn't always have what I'm looking for but it's always worth a shot to check!
Youtube
Esoterica - Run by Dr. Justin Sledge, Esoterica is a channel that discusses the arcane in history, philosophy, and religion.
Angela's Symposium - Dr. Angela Puca's channel where she covers peer-reviewed research and scholarship on magic, witches, esoteric traditions, the occult, Paganism, shamanism and related currents.
ReligionForBreakfast - Dr. Andrew M. Henry's channel that discusses--you guessed it--religion! His goal is to improve the public's religious literacy by exploring humanity's beliefs and rituals through an anthropological, sociological, and archaeological lens.
Misc
Ronald Hutton - Hutton is an invaluable resource and a fantastic historian. He writes the facts without being pretentious and is often quite funny too!

MORE GARGYOLES AU BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'm holding watch parties on my community discord for the Gargoyles; we're still on Season 1 but even then it's really helping give me some contextual clues I need for building the AU into something more sustainable. I'm super excited to get into Season 2; we'll be finishing off this season next Thursday before we continue on! :)
But ye! For this drawing; an experiment that went a little outta hand, but I'm glad it did. I really like the look of it; giving it some level of polish without resorting to coloring. I've always liked this sort of effect but rarely do I ever do it myself, but I think I'll have to do it more because it was far less time consuming to do! :>
So ye! More lore and brick work is being laid out for the AU, and once again I've written a short story to go along with the art!
For those of you who'd rather skip though, I placed it under the "Keep Reading" line, and for context for everyone here are some AU notes along with a TL;DR summary of what's happening here:
-AU explores the concept of "what if Demona was set onto the path of Redemption?"
-TL;DR for this image: Takes place a few nights after this. Demona confronts Elisa after her talk with Angela. To everyone's surprise it doesn't go south.
----------------
By all accounts Elisa thinks she should've expected this.
Especially with the life she's chosen for herself: top-rate detective with the highest arrest rate and cases solved on the force. In direct contact with Gargoyles-- literal living legends-- on a daily basis and what that typically entails, from revenge plots to sudden trips through the very fabrics of time. Enemies from all and every side, from supernatural to plain old human to the not-so-human and zealous occult.
And traveling Central Park alone in the dead of night? By all accounts, she should’ve expected this. Yet she still wasn’t prepared for the ambush.
One second she's halfway through the tunnel under the bridge. The next? Shoved face-first into grimy, soggy stone.
The taste of iron is sharp on her tongue as her teeth cut painfully into her lip on impact. It distracts her just enough before she finally zeroes in on the claws closed tight around the nape of her neck, another set digging hard into the leather of her jacket at her pinned wrists, easily piercing the material and biting into skin. She barely has time to gather her bearings before a familiar voice is hissing hot against her ear.
"You are not as clever as you think, detective."
Elisa's heart nearly beats out of her ribcage. "Demona," she breathes, alarmed but by no means surprised. It's been months since the last attempt the she-demon's made against her. Once again, Elisa curses allowing her guard to fall; she should've known it was only a matter of time before Demona struck. No matter how long this sudden bout of tremulous peace has gone.
"What do you want."
"That's exactly what I want to know," Demona drawls, pushing Elisa further into the rough stone. There's a seething sneer in her voice. " What are your intentions with Angela?"
Elisa pauses, her unease giving way to her confusion.
"What?"
Demona responds by gripping tighter, the tell-tale rumble of a growl behind her words. "You know damned well what I mean. It's no coincidence Angela has come to me so freely. Not if it meant lowering my guard; you're up to something." The gargoyle shoves Elisa none-too-gently against the stone again, her threat stark and clear. "And I don't take kindly to the thought anyone using my daughter like she's some sort of plaything--"
"--I'd never--" Elisa starts, offended, but she barely gets a word in before she's cut off with her own agonized grunt. Demona's bodily grinding her into the wall, the rough scrape of stone chafing at the skin of her cheek. She can barely breath with how hard the gargoyle pins her, straining for breath as Demona snarls at her, long teeth clacking dangerously close to her eye.
"Liar!" She barks, and Elisa hears how her tail cuts through the air as it lashes. "It's all you humans are ever good for! Weave empty words into pretty things, only to strike when your back is turned. Angela told me herself what you said, and your words ring hollow. You and I both know you don't believe any of it. What's your game?"
"So Goliath is right, then?" Elisa huffs in lieu of an answer, stilling herself and going mostly limp in Demona's grasp. Her common sense screams at her to struggle, to find an opening and break free... but her gut tells her stay put. Her father always told her to listen to her gut when it spoke, and it's never steered her wrong before. So she breathes in as much as she dares and forces each of her muscles to relax, to appear as little a threat as possible in her position.
Not too hard to do considering the circumstances, but it takes several breaths for her heart to stop trying to burst from her chest. Nor does it really erase the glower overtaking her face.
"Is that it? Angela shouldn't be anywhere near you. Shouldn't be allowed to choose for herself and that it was a mistake to even try to talk to you?"
"By the moon we glide under, I despise you, detective!" Demona hisses, and Elisa doesn't need to see her to know her eyes have begun glowing hot red. "I'm no fool; you view me a monster. You have absolutely nothing to gain from encouraging her to see me. Nothing. So why? What do you want with her?"
"Is it really so hard to believe I care for Angela?"
"Yes." Yet there is some degree of hesitance in Demona's voice when she says it, something Elisa nearly doesn't catch. As if the she-demon almost believes her own answer, but not entirely. There's enough evidence with Elisa aiding her old Clan-- never truly for her own gain -- that brings question to her conviction. "Humans don't do anything unless they gain something in return. You are either after her, my life, or something else." Demona allows Elisa's arm free to rake her claws against the stone of the bridge. It gives way easily as if nothing but dirt, leaving deep divots in a clear display of a threat. "Do not make me ask again."
"Then you're right," Elisa replies easily-- or as easily as her position allows-- and of all the responses she could've gotten Demona doesn't expect that. It's clear in how much she loosens her hold on Elisa in apparent surprise, no longer choking her so much as simply holding her in place now. Elisa's instincts flair then; demand she elbows the she-demon in the belly and get distance, yet even still her gut urges her: stay put.
"I do have something to gain. Angela's happiness."
Elisa doesn’t expect her words to have any real effect. Readies herself for Demona to snap at her again. Force her against the unforgiving stone, have her taste her own blood again, maybe even work up the nerve to inflict the bodily harm she always threatens. This is probably the closest she's gotten in a long while.
But Demona does… nothing. Simply a presence behind her. One simmering with barely held anger and confusion and the weight of her own paranoia. But still as stone—listening-- all the same.
Stay put.
Elisa takes in a shaky breath.
"She's miserable, you know. When the clan speaks ill of you," She breathes quietly, surprising herself with the gentleness in her own voice. "Goliath explicitly forbids her from ever trying to talk to you. He thinks you're a lost cause." It’s not hard to think of Goliath’s demeanor in those moments; regret, sadness, guilt, traces of betrayal and anger whenever he speaks of his ex. He's long since given up on reaching out to Demona.
"And maybe I did too, once. But now, I--"
The look on Demona's face when realizing who Angela was flashes through her memory. The shock, quickly replaced with unbridled joy and hope. Something Elisa was unsure Demona could feel up until that very moment.
"--you could've left us to die by Thailog's hand. You could've ended all of humanity with just a press of a button. But you didn't."
Elisa doesn't mention the sudden lack of schemes against all of mankind. She doesn't mention the abrupt disinterest in attacking the Clan. She doesn't say anything about how--even after all this time, even now-- she is still alive, when Demona has had ample chances to rid herself of her. Elisa is no slouch: she's proud enough to admit she's held her own against Demona a fair number of times. But there were times where only her keen eye and years of training caught the very slight hesitance from Demona when she was all but helpless.
"I don't think you're a lost cause," Elisa says unwaveringly. Nothing in her voice gives way to any underlying uncertainty she has. To the questions she burns to ask—why? What changed? -- but won’t. Not yet. "I have my reservations. But I don't think it's anyone's place to make that decision for Angela. Nor do I think it's fair to rob you of the chance to prove to her you're more than your past."
Elisa hesitates for just a second before she says clearly into the silence of the night, compelled by Demona's uncharacteristic show of restraint: "...I-I don’t think you’re a monster."
I never thought you to be.
The thought comes unbidden, and it catches her off guard at how honest it is. She doesn’t put it to words, only remaining in place and holding steady. Waiting.
Demona still doesn't say anything. Doesn't really do anything at first, but there's a very clear shift in the air, subtle as it may be. Elisa's instincts are no longer in overdrive, no longer in high alert of danger. Somehow  --even in Demona's sharp grasp-- there is no more danger to be aware of.
It's in the way the gargoyle's silence turns contemplative and not a raging storm cloud. In how she suddenly doesn't dig so hard in Elisa's jacket, tucking the tips of her claws safely against the leather and not into delicate skin. The intent is no longer there.
Demona mutters something to herself, low enough for Elisa not to hear what she says, but even with her keen senses it still manages to surprise the detective when the gargoyle simply... moves away.
It's by no means gentle. She abruptly drops the human without any sort of care, allowing her to crumple under her own weight when she finally touches ground after several minutes being held aloft. But the principle still stands.
Demona let her go.
"…I don't believe you," She grunts in a voice filled with scorn, but the usual bite is missing. Elisa allows herself a moment to rub at the scratches and welts those wicked claws left behind. She clears her throat before she chances a glance at the gargoyle and finds her back turned to her.
"I'm not asking you to," Elisa says softly. She eyes the gargoyle warily. "And I still don't trust you. But I do trust Angela. She saw something worth her time in you; the least I can do is support her... and be there if it blows up in her face."
When Elisa finds the energy to stand, she musters up a warning glare at Demona, stance cautious but no less filled with promise. "Don't make me regret it."
The threat behind it is barely veiled, and it must be the right thing to say, because Demona only barely casts a glance her way. Her eyes are hard to read. And despite it, Elisa can see the smallest hint of something in them when forest green sweeps over her, foot to face, the faintest upturn to the corner of her mouth.
"Then we are on the same page."
--------------------------
-------------
For some extra context:
-Demona is referring to how Elisa told Angela that she does actually believe Demona isn't pure evil, or a threat to her. Elisa doesn't trust Demona at all, but she recognizes that something has shifted in the gargoyle, and she knows she would never hurt Angela, so she sets aside her own doubts and encourages Angela to seek her mother out. I have plans to draw and write this interaction in the future so we have more context in this regard!
-Elisa strikes me as the type to be able to see things in varying shades of gray: Goliath isn't wrong in his reluctance to allow Angela near Demona, but she honestly doesn't think her heartless or a completely lost cause. Especially after she learns some of Demona's past
-Demona would never admit this, but she does actually respect Elisa. Much to her chagrin. Unlike most humans whom she barely bats an eye toward, she sees Elisa as her equal in prowess and intelligence, and she hates that she does, but she'd be a fool if she ignored it.
The further I get into the show I'll expand on this idea, but that's it for now. :)

Y/n sat silently in the back door of the van eating Twizzlers and listening to her friends talk to each other as they put on their wet suits. Angela sat beside her, “I keep thinking Eric’s going to ask me to prom and then he just doesn’t,” She said, defeat laced in her tone. Y/n shrugged her shoulders “Why don’t you ask him? I mean you're a strong independent woman, take control.” She said turning to face her friend. Angela leaned her head to the side, letting a bashful expression cross her features“I am?” She asked. y/n nodded “yes.” She said immediately, nodding her head.
Jessica came up to Angela asking her to zip her suit, making y/n avert her gaze elsewhere and making eye contact with Jacob black, who had two others behind him. “Y/n,” he said smiling as he stopped in front of her. y/n smiled “Hey Jacob. Guys this is Jacob.” She introduced. “Hey, guys. How are you doing?” He asked Jessica and Angela in his usual bubbly tone. Both girls replied with ‘hi’ and Jacob took a seat next to y/n. “So are you like, stalking me now?” She teased. “You're on my rez, remember?” He clapped back, causing y/n to roll her eyes. Jacob took a quick look around at her friends “Are you surfing?” He asked. Y/n laughed at the question “Absolutely not” she said, offering him a Twizzler which he accepted and thanked her for.
Jessica spoke up from beside Angela “You guys should keep y/n company. Her date bailed.” She said. Y/n rolled her eyes discreetly, “what date?” Eric asked from the other side of the van, where he and Mike were zipping up their suits. Jessica laughs “She invited Edward,” she said. “It wasn’t a date, I was just trying to be polite.” Y/n said in a mocking ‘duh’ tone. “I think it's nice she invited him. Nobody ever does.” Angela said sweetly, “Yeah ‘cause Cullens’ a freak,” Mike said and Jacob’s friends agreed with him. “You guys know him?” Y/n asked curiously. “The Cullens don’t come here,” Jacob’s friend said, causing a silence. Y/n looked over to Jacob who shook his head and took a bite out of the twizzler.
Y/n and Jacob walked along the beach of “la Push” in silence before Y/n spoke up. “What did your friends mean by “the Cullens don’t come here”?” She asked curious. Jacob scoffed lightheartedly “You caught that huh? I’m not supposed to say anything about it,” he said contemplating. Y/n nodded “Well I’m not gonna force it out of you… how about a pinky swear?” Y/n said no longer walking but holding up her pinky with a smile. Jacob chuckled stopping as well as he turned to her “Pinky swear?” He teased. Y/n laughed as well dropping her arm “What? Don’t tell me I have to teach you about pinky swear” she teased back. Jacob laughed and finally held up his pinky which y/n linked with her own. When both their hands dropped Jacob began. “It’s just like an old scary story” he said, as they began walking again. “I won’t get scared, I promise,” she said jokingly, making Jacob smile before it quickly dropped.
“Okay, did you know Quileutes are supposedly descended from wolves?” He asked, y/n’s eyebrows shot up in surprise “Wolves? Like real wolves?” She asked, making sure she heard him correctly. He nodded “Yeah, that’s the legend of our tribe.” Jacob said. Y/n nodded “So what’s the story about the Cullens?” She asked. “Well, they’re supposedly descended from this like, enemy clan. My great-grandfather, the chief, found them hunting on our land. But they claimed to be something different so, we made a treaty with them.” He said. Yn took in the information as Jacob continued talking. “If they promised to stay off Quileute lands, then we wouldn’t expose what they were to the pale faces,” he said finishing his story with a smile. “I thought they just moved here,” Y/n said. “Or just moved back,” he said chuckling. Y/n laughed along with him, playing it off but internally she was even more intrigued than before. Both y/n and Jacob were startled by a scream coming from Angela who ran by being chased by Eric with a snake.
(I decided to end the scene here because I hated the way Bella kept pressing about the Cullens story and because I actually love Jacob)
When y/n returned home Charlie wasn’t home from work yet, so she decided to just go to her room and find something to do. She somehow found herself at her computer searching ‘Quileute legends’. She quickly found a bookstore that was in Forks Washington and wrote down the address.
The next morning when y/n woke up she was pleased to see that the sun was making itself known. She quickly got ready for school and made sure to grab her ripped piece of paper with the address scribbled on it. At school she discretely (or so she thought) looked around in search of a specific person. “He’s not here,” Jessica said from beside y/n. Jessica was sitting on the table leaning back on her elbows sunbathing. “What?” Y/n asked confused. “ whenever the weather's nice the Cullen’s disappear.” Yn nodded slightly embarrassed at being caught “So what do they just ditch or something?” Y/n asked. “No, Dr. And Mrs.Cullen pull them out for like camping and stuff. Tried that with my parents… not a chance” Jessica said as Angela sat down next to y/n “Guys, I’m going to prom with Eric. I just asked him, I took control.” she said excitedly. Y/n cheered “See I told you,” she said hugging her. “Are you sure you have to go out of town?” Angela asked. “Oh yeah it’s kind of a family thing, can’t miss it” y/n replied. “Okay, we should go shopping before all the good dresses get cleaned out,” Jessica said before the bell rang. “At Port Angeles? Mind if I come?” She asked biting her lip in curiosity. “Uh yeah I need your opinion,” Angela said in a ‘duh’ tone.
Y/n sat doodling, barely paying attention as both girls tried on different dresses. They had both come out at the same time Angela in a teal blue almost and Jessica with a pinkish purple one with white gloves, as they rambled about the qualities the dresses bought out. Out of nowhere a group of guys walked passed knocking on the window and catcalling them, at that moment y/n had been so glad she’d decided against going to prom. She rolled her eyes and gave the guys a disgusted look “That’s disgusting” she said lowly looking back to her journal just as Jessica asked, “y/n, what do you think?” At this y/n looked back up. “You guys look great,” she said and both girls' shoulders slumped “You’ve said that about the last five dresses though,” Jessica said looking back to the mirror “I thought they were all pretty good” y/n sassed back. “You’re not really into all this are you?” Angela asked, y/n sighed feeling a little guilty “I just really want to go to this bookstore, I’ll meet you guys at the restaurant, ok?” She asked to shock the girls agreed.
It didn’t take y/n long to find the bookstore. The sun was setting fast causing an unsettling sensation to linger in her stomach. She found her book and paid for it before making an exit and starting back towards the restaurant where she was supposed to meet Jess and Angela. By now the sun was completely dark, and y/n had lost her way getting confused about which turn to take. As she passed an alley that looked familiar she began to walk down it but quickly changed her mind when the men from earlier today started walking toward her. She turned around and started walking back, as the men followed her. When she exited the alley she noticed more men walking toward her from that way as well. She was surrounded. Shed tried to move past them but they blocked her way “Woah woah woah, where you going pretty girl?” “Come drink with us” “Yeah you should come hang out with us” All the voices piled on top of each other and their breaths reeked of alcohol. Her breath began to pick up as her heart raced, “let me go” she threatened in a weak voice, but it became more firm as one of the guys laid their hands very low on her back “Don’t touch me!” She said as she kicked her guy in his area, just as a familiar car pulled into her sight stopping just before hitting the guys as they scattered around like rats.
“Get in the car” Edward demanded. Y/n was quick to follow his orders, feeling better about getting in a car with someone from school than staying out there. From what she could see, Edward had given them a threatening glare, she didn’t see his mouth moving so that’s all she could come up with. He got into the car and pulled forward again stopping maybe an inch from the guys before speeding out of the lot and back to the main road. “I should go back there and rip those guys’ heads off.” Edward threatened through clenched teeth. Y/n’s brows raised in shock “Uh no you really shouldn’t, that would classify as murder.” She rambled, as she grabbed the door handle in fear because of the speed he was doing in the car. “You don’t know the vile and repulsive things they were thinking” he argued mindlessly. Y/n looked over at him in confusion “And you do?” She asked. He hesitated for a second before saying “It’s not hard to guess.”. Y/n stared at him in silence for a second “Can you talk about something else? Distract me so I won’t turn around.” He said. Y/n racked her mind for something to say before settling with “Driving without a seatbelt is dangerous, you should buckle up” she said rambling again, he laughed “You should put your seatbelt on” he said. Y/n stared at him in shock at his mood swing but decided against saying anything
——
Y/n walked up to the restaurant where she was supposed to meet Angela and Jessica, only to find them walking out. “Hey, guys I'm sorry I-“ y/n started but was cut off by Angela’s worried tone “Where were you? We left you messages” Angela said, “yeah we waited, but we were like starving, so we..” Jessica trailed off as she saw Edward approaching. “I’m sorry I kept y/n from dinner< we just ran into each other and got talking,” he said flashing his not-seen-very-often smile, to anyone who knew y/n his statement would have been unbelievable but the two girls in front of her (one more than the other) were just happy to have Edward speak to them. Both girls were speechless at his comment “No, we understand I mean, it happens right?” Jess stuttered out smiling, “Um, we were- yeah we were just leaving so um, y/n if you wanna” Jessica pointed to the car they drove her in asking if she was coming with. “I think I should make sure y/n gets something to eat. If you’d like. I’ll drive you home myself” Edward asked looking right at y/n. She listened to the two girls on each side of her send ‘That’s so thoughtful’ and ‘yeah’s back and forth. “Yeah, yeah I should eat,” Y/n said. “Okay, we’ll see you tomorrow then.” They said. Y/n nodded as they turned around and walked up to the restaurant.
“Alright one mushroom ravioli,” the waiter said as she placed y/n plate down in front of her. “Thank you,” y/n said politely and sent the woman a tight-lipped smile, “yeah no problem,” she said before turning to Edward “So are you sure there’s not anything I can get you?” she asked him with a slight flirt in her tone. Edward glanced at her before settling his eyes back on y/n “No, no thank you” he said with a small smile. “Well let me know,” the woman said as she walked away. Y/n stared at him in wonder, “Are you not gonna eat? I mean I feel kind of weird eating in your face like this.” She said.
Edward huffed out a laugh before replying “No I’m on a um, special diet”. Y/n sighed looking down at her plate of food then back up at him “You gotta give me some answer” she said. “Yes, no, to get to the other side, 1.77245-“ “I don’t wanna know what the square root of pi is,” she said rolling her eyes. “You knew that?” He asked cheekily, y/n squinted her eyes at him. “you knew where I was, how?” She demanded. “I didn’t” he denied. Y/n nodded and began getting up “Alright-“ she said, and for once another emotion what looked to be panic crossed his face “Don’t leave. I-“ he said cutting himself off and letting out a sigh. Y/n sat back down, “were you following me? Did you see me out or something? I need answers,” she said, almost begging him to explain himself, immediately after she asked he spoke “I feel very protective of you,” he said. “So you followed me?” She asked looking away from him for a second before returning his gaze. “I was trying to keep a safe distance in case you needed my help and then I heard what those lowlives were thinking,” he said huffing out a laugh. “Hold on slow down, you heard what they were thinking?” She asked “So you read minds.” She confirmed.
He again huffed out a laugh and began looking around the restaurant “I can read every mind in this room, apart from yours” he said, the last part didn’t come as much of a surprise as the first part, she’d always been told she was hard to read even when her emotions were being laid out on a silver platter for everyone to see. He began looking around the room and saying what everyone was thinking. Until he got to her “And then you, nothing. It’s very frustrating” He said. Y/n nodded taking in the information, “I’ve always been told I’m hard to read, never thought anyone would mean it literally” Y/n said sheepishly. Edward laughed “I just told you I can read minds and that’s what you say?” He asked. “Oddly enough it doesn’t scare me. It’s familiar, I don’t know why” she said softly looking down at her untouched food but Edward heard her. He sighed making her look back up at him “What?” She asked. “I don’t have the strength to stay away from you anymore,” he said, staring into her eyes with an intensity she’d never seen before. “Then don’t” she replied recuperating his stare.
——————
Driving back home was awkward, y/n felt the tension layered on thick. “I think I’m warm enough now,” she said and reached to turn off the heat, coming in contact with his hand who reached to do the same. His hand was cold, and y/n looked at him in wonder as he tensed“you could leave it on if you're still cold?” She suggested, at this, he visibly relaxed letting out a breath. He shook his head “no I’ll be fine it’s just nerves” he said. Y/n nodded not pushing him further as he reached to turn off the heat this time.
“Charlie’s still there can you pull in?” Y/n quietly asked him watching as the flashing lights of police cars passed them and surrounded the police station. “That’s my father’s car on the end,” Edward said softly. He said as he pulled into the parking lot and parked. “What is he doing here?” He asked face etched with confusion as they exited the car. “Carlisle, what’s going on?” He asked his father. “Waylon Forge was found in a boat out near his place. I just examined the body” Carlisle said. “He’s dead?” Y/n asked in shock. The doctor nodded “How?” She asked. The doctor shared a look with Edward “Animal attack” he said. “The same one that got the security guard down in Mason?” She asked. “Most likely” he answered. “It getting closer to town” “Y/n you should go inside, Waylon was a friend of Charlie’s,” he said. Y/n nodded and turned to Edward, “thanks for dinner and the ride, I’ll see you later” she said and walked into the station.
“Hey,” she greeted Charlie. “Hey,” he replied. After a couple of seconds of silence y/n spoke again. “I’m sorry for your loss,” she said sitting down beside him. “I’ve known him going on 30 years,” he said sadly. Not knowing what to say Y/n placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and he placed his over hers. Suddenly he started looking around “Don’t worry about it we’re gonna catch this thing. In the meantime I want you to carry this with you” he said pulling out a green bottle of pepper spray. Y/n grimaced “I’m not sure you-“ “It’ll give me some peace of mind” he cut her off before she could disagree. She took the bottle “Okay” she said. “Let’s go home,” he said.

hi,
Can you please write 5, 7 and 8 with lewis where reader is an fan of his and they meet in the paddock after being harrassed in Austria
Happy milestone legend
thank you thank you xx! i'm gonna think you're talking about the fluff list, if not, i'm really, really sorry :/
warnings: harassment, reader going through some hard thoughts, light cursing
Tumblr media
You didn't like this place. It was full of bad memories and things that you didn't want to feel. You'd look in some directions and you were almost certain that you saw him. And in those moments you tried to recall the nicer memories of the last year.
This place was also a begining. It was full of safety and protectiveness and all the sweet words that have helped you. This place was the birth of your love. Lewis didn't know you back then, hell, he didn't even notice the 44 on your hat. But he noticed your eyes, and how they were begging for anyone.
This year, he was by your side all the time. He wasn't just your favorite driver anymore, someone who has helped you get up so many times. He still was all those things, but you were lucky enough to call him your boyfriend now.
Still, this place haunted you. With every single little thing, you'd feel your heart fastening, and your breathing becoming quicker. You knew it was the last time it happened. You knew Lewis would never let you go somewhere alone in this place, but also that anyone who knew who you were to Lewis would never want to call his anger upon themselves.
Now, in Mercedes garage, you were surrounded by nothing but love. Lewis was a bit in front of you, speaking to Toto about performances of the car today. Angela was next to you, the sweet woman always having your back.
"It's quite cold here, don't you think?" You asked her, covering yourself in Lewis's your's hoodie as deep as you could. Almost like he'd heard you, your boyfriend turned around.
"What's up pretty ladies?" He asked, giving you a short peck on the lips. Next to you, Angela smiled, seeing the love you two had for each other.
"If I said I'm cold, do I get your jacket?" You replied to him, cheeky smile on your lips.
"You get my jacket, you get my hoodie, you can get my heart."
He shared a smile with you, but he was already taking his jacket off.
"Cute."
Someone in the back shouted his name, and he gave you an apologetic smile.
"It's okay, go, go, we'll be fine."
You could see the look of worry on his face. He hated this place and he hated leaving you alone in here. But he still had few things to finish and soon you would find yourself in hotel bed, limps tangled, watching some show which you most certainly didn't understand.
Somehow, that time came quicker than usual. He was driving you home, soft light in his car lighting up his face. Still, he was worried.
"Lewis, baby, are you okay?"
He looked over at you, confused eyes scanning your face. "Yeah, I'm just hoping you're okay with being here."
Of course. He was the most selfless person you knew, always putting others in front of him. "Lewis. I'm fine. I'm with you now, and I had a nice day. Okay, I love you a lot, but you're worrying too much."
"That sounds familiar, coming from someone like you." He said, soft smile on his face as he focused on the road ahead.
"There it is, there's that smile I was waiting for." In return, he only took your hand, bringing it under his chin, and like a crazy man, keeping it there for the rest of the ride.
Hotel you were staying in was one of the, if not the, best in the city. You complained about that sometimes, how he's too good to you. He really was. Never in your life would you think you'd have a seven time champion cooking pasta for you in ten pm.
You have told him that you could just order from restaurant, but he was sure he could cook better. And he did. While Lewis had a lot of money, he didn't actually spend so much of it on daily things. He was lucky enough to know how to cook, so he did.
"I can't wait for the day that I marry you." You said as he served you, because God forgive if he'd let you do it on your own.
"So why don't we do it?"
He did not say that. "What are you talking about?"
"This isn't proposal or anything yet, just a little information for you, that I plan on marrying you one day." He answered your question, like it was the most obvious thing ever.
Oh how lucky you were. "Okay then, mister. I agree with you." You smiled. "But I think our pasta is getting cold!"

stories i om-nom-nom'd :: april 2024 (week 2)
I honestly didn't nom through too much because this week was mostly spent on my 'main' blog which is by the site's terms my side blog but let's be real, that's where I'm most active, it's my main blog 😤 Anyways, most of the week was spent reading through my friends' and fellow writers' stories and progressing my Tumblr TBR, writing my own stories, and also downloading and posting all the photos that came out this week from the events that Tom Hiddleston attended (legend has it, I'm still downloading).
As always, spoilers, thots, and thoughts all under the cut
documentaries
The Antisocial Network
I wasn't expecting this to take the turn that it did, documenting the butterfly effect of the creation of 4chan and how it snowballed into January 6, 2021. I ended up liking this a bit more than I expected going in, but I also have a little bit of an opinion…some of these guys really shot themselves in the foot revealing themselves to be a part of Anonymous because now…well they're kinda the opposite 🥴
Quiet on Set: Breaking the Silence
The check in with the people that were interviewed felt like a necessary part of the entire process, but honestly…there was something in the vibe of this episode's execution that felt off to me. It was like the host was putting on a performance like they were filming in front of a studio audience and the tone just felt like it was too chipper if that makes sense? Like you're supposed to be checking in on them and asking them how they've felt since the documentary came out and how their lives have been since, so why are you sounding like you're reading them today's headlines? Like I can't believe I'm even saying this but Trisha Paytas did better--
It just felt a little heavy-handed to me, but I can get behind the concept of having this follow-up episode that addressed the absolute garbage fire of a video that Foot Man put out into the internet trying to do damage control but honestly should've just been titled "Dan Schneider digs his own grave even deeper for 20 minutes straight".

Delicious: True Love
Stage 5, Day 1: Emily arrives back home to her restaurant/apartment in Snuggford and the poor beb's so heartbroken and hyper-focused on that, that she doesn't even notice there's a big gaping hole in the middle of her restaurant, with a burst pipe making an accidental water fountain. Patrick only sees her going upstairs to unpack and assumes that her trip went well and basically declares to her family and her best friend that now that she's got her love and she's happy, there's no more reason for him to stay.
Dude no, we've officially entered idiots in love stage. 😩
The day ends with Emily sobbing the second her mom goes up and checks in on her. I'm gonna say one more time for good measure, if OG story Jean-Paul has zero haters, I am dead.
Stage 5, Day 2: Emily's parents are worried about her since she hasn't come back down from her apartment, and Francois gives her some tough love telling her to at least show up for work because he won't make excuses for her absence. Nothing much happens on this day, since she goes straight back upstairs when the shift's over, other than her mom Evelyn basically saying she should have meddled in the beginning by never giving her the letter to begin with.
All I'm gonna say is…remake Evelyn is definitely the better Evelyn 🥴
Stage 5, Day 3: Patrick reveals that he's moving to New York since his business is growing and the new shop's gonna need his attention. Then Angela, Emily's little sister, shows up with puppies and asks her all about Paris, which causes Evelyn to shout at Angela rather than just calmly tell her that it's a sensitive topic (Clear to see where Evelyn's playing favorites). Angela leaves the restaurant but instructs one of the puppies to stay behind with Emily, which kicks off our side quest for this level where we call back the pup when he strays from Emily's side.
The day ends with Emily keeping the pup with her for a day or two, and talking to her mom about what happened in Paris.
Stage 5, Day 4: The big hole in the middle of the restaurant's all fixed, and it's bringing in more foot traffic to the restaurant. Emily makes a note to call to have the floors polished, mentioning she likes the floral scent, and Francois tells her that Patrick's moving to New York. He also accidentally kickstarts the dreaded miscommunication trope because he said "something about someone needing his attention there".
Gotta love them himbo besties 🥴
Stage 5, Day 5: Emily gets to see more of Patrick's green flag status when he tends to a kid that hurt herself when she tripped, taking the kid's mind off the pain and giving her a little flower and doing a magic trick. Then he confirms with Emily that yes, he's moving to New York because "it's time to move on", and I wanna bonk some heads together all over again. Francois tells her that she and Patrick have been flirting for so long that it's like "watching the same car crash on repeat" and he tells his therapist about it sometimes, and then accidentally breaks the vase that Patrick put a rose he set aside for Emily in, scattering marbles all over the floor and giving us our side mission for this level.
The day ends with Emily turning down an offer for a girls night out, and holding on to the rose from earlier.
Stage 5, Day 6: We officially unlock this stage's Entertainer, which is Francois with Emily's new puppy from Angela. Not much happens other than at the end of the day, the previous owner of the restaurant Mr Farrell visits the place to reminisce, and he talks about his "one that got away" because he was a teenage boy that fapped over Marilyn Monroe (my words, not his). Then one day when he finally came to his senses, the girl already stopped showing up at the restaurant.
Stage 5, Day 7: Emily's heart's finally starting to heal and she wakes up realizing that her apartment's a total mess ever since she got home and started her one-woman misery party. She still has the rose from Patrick at the center of her living area, and she reads a card that basically boils down to "Emily babes wake up your true love's been right in front of you literally giving you flowers every day". Unfortunately, that last scene from the previous day feels like heavy-handed foreshadowing because Patrick says goodbye to Emily after giving her one last delivery of fresh flowers for the restaurant.
The day ends with Mr Farrell bidding Emily and his old restaurant goodbye since he's moving to Florida to stay with friends, and a regular customer Gladys walks in looking for her purse, and wouldn't you know, it's Mr Farrell's TOTGA, and she moved back to Snuggford after her husband passed away so she could be closer to family. This makes Mr Farrell decide that he doesn't wanna move to Florida anymore.
Undercover: Blood Bonds
Chapter 10: Vera clocks in for the morning shift and finds Bluejay in Club with her pajamas on, finding out that she doesn't have a place to stay so she's been sleeping in the backroom. Vera offers her to move in so she doesn't catch a case for breaking in. At the end of the shift, Jericho reveals he has mind control powers and he used them to make Crystal exit the room before he ordered Mr Smirnov to get rid of Vera because she's asking too many questions.
Chapter 11: Vera meets up with Hank at a pub called Smokin' Wheels, and he tells her that Mr Smirnov's on a mission to get her sacked. Lilly's ex boyfriend Sam shows up and Vera spends that shift trying not to get noticed by Sam. At the end of the shift, we get a flashback of Sam being overprotective but concerned about Lilly coming home late and he pulls the "you're mine" card, while Lilly walks away going "You don't know anything".
Pretty sure the cops are wrong that Sam's the culprit and it's actually Mr Mind Control with the glowy red eyes Jericho that they should be looking up.

I'm already sharpening a pitchfork with Joe Alwyn's name on it.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure: Imagination Celebration Event
I have no idea what this side story's gonna be, but all I know is that they made my precious bb Kuromi the villain of the event, and ngl I'm fuming. My sweet mischievous baby deserves better 😤
Tumblr media
That's all for this week. See y'all next week unless I fall into a rabbit hole of planning out new stories for the WIP pile because I up and decided to Phase 1 plan for a "The Tortured Poets Department Collection" 🥴🫡

Quickly, before they find me awake still! 🤭
⚠️ Trigger warning: lots of alcohol including pressured intoxication.
Unrecognisable Part 29
Sitting up, Jake ran his fingers through his wet hair while laughing, "I have to give you credit for that one, Jessica. You saved a man's life tonight."
Jessy sprayed Jake again, "My name is Jessy! Jess-y! Get it right!"
"You mean she saved your life," Dan corrected while wiping his forehead dry. "I had you."
"In your dreams, Anderson," Jake stood up and shook out his arms. "You could never kill me."
"Maybe you haven't heard. I shot a legend," Dan boasted. "I can handle a freak like you."
"But you didn't kill him. If you had done your job properly, well, we wouldn't be in the position we are in now, would we?" Jake glared. "And, maybe you haven't heard, I'm the train terror! I kill anyone who gets in my way. Police, civilians, doesn't matter."
"Jake, why would you say that?" I interrupted. "He's lying! The news reports are wrong! He didn't kill any innocents! The police shot at us first into a crowd! They're the ones who killed the civilians."
“See? I told you guys they didn’t do it!” Lilly grinned.
"MC, you’re ruining my image," Jake frowned at me. "But I am getting cold and I would appreciate a change of clothes."
"I left our bag in the bathroom. You should go get changed," I motioned towards the bathroom.
Jake pushed past Dan, giving him a smug look. Dan grunted in response. As Jake passed me, he kissed me briefly, but lovingly, then continued to the bathroom.
"If you're all done fighting amongst yourselves," Angela said sarcastically. "Clean up my kitchen. Now." She shook her head with disgust, then retreated back to her bedroom.
Jessy sighed and put the hose away while Cleo and Lilly tossed towels at Dan and Thomas. Then the three girls sat back down at the table, giving sharp looks at the boys to take responsibility for the mess.
"Hey, how come he gets away with it?" Dan protested.
"He's not the one who started it!" Cleo reminded him. "You overreacted!"
"Figures," Dan mumbled as he crouched down to wipe the floor. "Guys like me always get blamed."
"Aw, did you want me to get you a tissue?" I teased.
"You know I have your best interest at heart, right?" He looked up at me.
"Yes, I know, but you need to have a little more faith in me," I replied. "Maybe you haven't heard, I exposed a legend."
Dan threw his towel at me for mocking him. Giggling while I dodged, I left him to go pick up my whiskey bottle from the table. I took a swig then carried it with me as I went to check on Jake. I found him shirtless as he was about to put the dry one on.
"Hey," he smirked at me entering the bathroom.
"Don’t 'hey' me," I pointed the bottle at him while leaning against the vanity. "You nearly lost control back there."
"Oh, you noticed," his expression soured.
I rolled my eyes, "Yes, I noticed."
"As I said, it's been a long day," he avoided eye contact as he put his shirt on. "I'm not going to apologise though. They were absolutely out of line."
"Well, Thomas did swing first, but don't think I didn’t notice you baiting him," I glared.
"So maybe I did, " he shrugged and stepped in front of me leaning against the vanity. "What are you going to do about it?" He took the bottle from my hands and chugged.
"Should you be drinking?" I questioned.
Jake stopped and grinned as he wiped his mouth with his arm, "No, but don't tell anyone. I need to de-stress. You shouldn't worry though, it'll take a lot more than this to get me drunk."
He pressed his lips against mine, slipping his tongue into my mouth. I could taste the whiskey on him and somehow I became more intoxicated from it. I felt so dizzy and flushed, but it wasn't enough. I wanted, no, needed more. I needed us to separate from the world and all the shit that was going on. With both hands I grabbed his head and pulled him closer. He put the bottle down on the vanity so he could hold my hips as he pressed into me. I moaned softly against his lips. He sucked on my bottom lip causing me to gasp. Then he pulled away and handed the bottle back to me suggestively. I took another swig while Jake idly started grinding his hips against me.
"This apartment is so disgustingly perfect. Let's degrade it," he leant forward and whispered in my ear.
"No," I shook my head. "I think Angela's had enough tonight without us abusing her generosity."
"Then let's get out of here. There's a park not far away from here. It had a few quiet spots where no one would bother us. Unless you want to make a show of it," he smirked darkly.
"Jake!" I laughed, lightly hitting him across the chest.
"Ok, but think about it, there's this really ostentatious statue to the hero and founder of Colville. Let's defile it!" he mused.
"It’s not worth getting caught over," I pointed out.
"You're not drunk enough yet," Jake lifted the bottle to my lips, forcing me to take another swig.
"Hey! How can I be the voice of reason if I'm drunk!" I argued.
"I don't want your reasoning, I want you," he snickered before taking another few gulps.
"Um, uh, maybe we should leave now," I blushed. "But that feels rude after the effort Jessy went through to convince Angela."
"That is entirely up to you," he shrugged. "Here, there, everywhere, you're mine tonight."
"We were only separated for a few hours," I commented.
"Hmm, I get it, you're new. You see, there is no greater high for me than challenging law enforcement and rendering them useless," he grinned devilishly.
"So in other words, you're drunk on power," I giggled.
"That still sounds like too much reason," he frowned and brought the bottle to my lips again to force me to drink.
I took another gulp, then pushed away, spilling some of the whiskey on my hoodie, "Hey! That's my spare one!"
"Take it off so we can clean it," he pretended to be serious.
"Nuh-uh, I know how that works. I take it off and suddenly all my clothes are off," I narrowed my eyes.
"You can't blame me for trying," he snickered.
"Let me tell you a secret," I leant in and whispered. "I almost fell for it."
"Are you sure we can't just fuck here?" He eyed me like a predator stalking his prey. "With the reverberation in this room, your moans would be to die for."
"They'll hear us," I blushed.
Jake laughed, "Is that what you're worried about? Just put a towel in your mouth then!"
"No, we should go," I decided. "Maybe we can sneak out."
"We can go out the way I came in," Jake offered.
"How did you do that? We're on the first floor," I frowned.
"I climbed. It was easy actually," he said nonchalantly.
"Ok, I'm going to take a peek first, to make sure it's clear," I held a finger up to my lips to shush him.
From there, my memory became hazy. I remember peeking out of the bathroom and seeing the others had gone to the living room. We snuck out through the kitchen and out the balcony door. I vaguely remember hearing someone calling out to us as we made our grand escape. I do remember squealing and giggling like the drunken mad woman I was.
Jake jumped off the balcony first onto the pavement below, then I drunkenly fell into his arms. I doubt I would've been able to jump from that height if I wasn’t drunk. As soon as my feet were planted onto the ground, we took off down the alley to the main street. I have a vague memory of shouting at some random people giving me looks and Jake shushing me while pretending he didn't find it funny. I started stumbling so much that Jake had to support me as we walked. At one point he left me leaning against a wall and he suddenly came back with a bottle of vodka. To be honest, I think he stole it, but I couldn’t tell you how.
Jake mentioned something about a database of known vacancies and the next thing I remember he broke into some media mogul's penthouse at the top of a tall apartment building. Instead of worrying about getting caught, I nagged him to hurry up because I needed to know if there was a hot tub. There wasn't a whole lot I remembered of that night. All I know is that the place was trashed by morning and I woke up with the worst hangover.

Thess vs The IMDB Game Again
As I may or may not have mentioned, I preordered Horizon: Forbidden West the minute it came up for pre-sale - the first time I've done that for a game since Dredge (and before that since ... I think Dragon Age 2, honestly). And then I thought: "Sylens. Lance Riddick. Oooooooooooh that's gonna hit different, given he passed not long after that..." So, at least in part to cheer myself up, I played the IMDB Game with Forbidden West. You know, "I've Heard That Voice Before", but with a restriction of "What have they been doing since HZD, if they were in HZD?". While doing that, I answered that question about a whole bunch of other bits of media that I hadn't run through the IMDB Game that comprehensively yet.
For instance, Erend - John Hopkins. ...Well, to avoid spoilers for a massively huge game, if you're playing BG3? Look up "Arnell Hallowleaf", because they don't really name the guy in any IC way and it's easy to miss any indication of it OOC because that's some fraught shit in the House of Grief. And if you really want irony, his first introduction to video game VA was "Sword Coast Legends", so hopefully his poor character got more of a look at the Sword Coast than poor Hallowleaf ever did...
Varl - John Macmillan. Those of you who watched The Sandman? That's the version of Morpheus Nala sees, when she sees him in hell. Was also in a couple of episodes of House of the Dragon as Ser Laenor Velaryon, if you're into that kind of thing.
Tilda Van der Meer? That's a new character. Let's see ... Carrie-Ann Moss?!? TRINITY? ......Wait. No, I'm sure I knew that Aria T'Loak was voiced by Trinity from the Matrix movies and just forgot. There is no way I would just not know that.
Kotallo - another new one. Hrm. Noshir Dalal ... Huh. That reminds me that I need to actually sit down and watch Candela Obscura. As it stands, I've probably heard him in Guild Wars 2 somewhere. (I really should log back into that...)
Regalla, another new one... Angela Bassett. Well. They got some names for the sequel, didn't they? Seriously, while she's Ramonda forever for some people, for me it's mostly everything she played in American Horror Story.
Erica Luttrell. I know that name. I know I know that-- Ah. Aura Lorelei. I'm sure it says something when she's done so much and I mostly recognise the name through Critical Role-- Huh. Wait. Various voices in Dragon Age: Origins!
Right, that's enough of that. Mostly because I should probably nip to the shops now, if I'm doing so, because a big dark cloud just kind of blotted out the nice partly-sunny day and I'd rather not walk out in the rain.

Adult content (A TG/TF Possession story)
"I can't believe you dragged me to this thing."
"Well I don't drive Arthur, you do." Josh replied.
"Then get a license, I doubt you care about carbon emissions or any of that seeing as you never clean."
Arthur didn't particularly like his roommate Josh, he was a slob and left it to Arthur to maintain their flat. The most he saw of him was either when he was using the kitchen or giving him his half of the rent. He'd offered to pay Arthur if he drove him to a convention that was a few hours away from their flat, Arthur figured he could use the money and maybe he'd actually have a good time, he didn't care for Josh but he liked conventions, albeit when he saw what this one was he wasn't all too pleased.
"C'mon what's the look for?"
"I figured this would be some kind of nerdy convention that I could actually enjoy, but this is a porn convention."
"Hey, I prefer adult entertainment convention, besides are you seriously telling me you don't like the sights?" Josh said gesturing around to the various stalls with attractive adult stars.
"Sure but there's a thing called the internet, I'd rather not see this shit in public." Arthur said looking around at the crowds.
"Maybe you should just go back to the car then." Josh replied. "It's so late that everywhere else here is shut, I'd just be waiting around with nothing to do, plus did you forget that you'd offered to pay me more if I came in with you?"
"Oh right, yeah."
"Besides you said you were only here to see one person so I figured we wouldn't be here long."
"You're telling me you want to rush out, after spending hours driving here?"
"I like driving, a lot more than being in this sweat filled hellhole, now c'mon let's get to whoever you're here to see."
"Oh yeah, Angela White." Josh said with a grin.
"She's this Aussie star who's kinda thick, trust me wait till you see her." Josh said, his description causing Arthur to frown in disgust.
"TMI mate."
--
"Well, here we are." Josh said as they reached her stall, although it appeared to be empty save for a poster of her.
"Seriously, she's not even here! There's no one around this area either, she must have come and gone by now." Arthur said angrily.
"Don't worry, she'll be here soon." Josh said pulling a scroll out of his bag.
"Okay man, what the fuck is that." Arthur said through a chuckle at how ridiculous his overweight roommate looked with the crinkled roll of paper.
"This is an ancient scroll of great power, I researched it online."
"You can not be serious?" Arthur said through another chuckle.
"How would you even get something like that, that'd be some priceless artefact in a museum or something, would you even be able to unroll it, let alone read it?"
"This is just a copy of the original scroll text, I got it on eBay." Josh responded.
"Ah, you got it on eBay. Of course, of course you did, where else would you get it?" Arthur said exaggeratingly slapping his forehead in disbelief. He couldn't believe he'd driven for hours just to end up standing in the middle of a porn convention with his roommate holding an ancient scroll. This whole scenario was ridiculous.
"Look, you've clearly got some.. stuff going on. I think I've changed my mind, I'll just leave you and your scroll be and wait in the car." Arthur said turning to leave
"Stay and I'll pay you more, this won't take long." Josh quickly stammered out causing Arthur to reluctantly turn back.
"It's said to summon a demon spoken of in ancient books, hieroglyphics, cave paintings even depicted them. They're said to be the embodiment of lust and dark desire, able to shape the mind and form into anything it wishes. Legends spoke of great orgies held to honor this demon, with it corrupting temples and places of worship, whole civilizations falling to its power, with its impression on humanity living on to this day."
"Huh, why don't I remember that from history class?" Arthur said sarcastically, he couldn't believe Josh was taking this all so seriously.
"So this great evil, demon or whatever did all this and its power is still felt today, how exactly? Just because people still fuck?"
"That, S&M, who knows, all I know is with this scroll I can summon her." Josh replied.
"Her, of course its a her, why didn't that occur to me? Sure, go ahead man, if she's done what you say then summoning her sounds like a great idea. *Christ this guy needs to get out more, he's trying to summon a girlfriend.*" Arthur was still stunned that Josh took this so seriously, to the point that he couldn't pick up on the clear sarcasm in Arthur's voice.
"Oh great one, I summon you forth, use this vessel I have provided for you and shape it into the form that surrounds us." Josh said gesturing to Arthur before then gesturing to the poster of Angela White.
"I can't believe I live with this guy." Arthur said muffled by him double facepalming himself.
"Come forth demon! Come forth and reclaim your place within the mortal realm!" Josh yelled looking up with his arms out.
Nothing happened for several seconds, then a single light in the ceiling briefly flickered, followed by nothing else.
"Pretty sure that thing needs new batteries." Arthur said looking up at it during the period of silence, before seeing Josh panicking as he mumbled to himself looking at the scroll.
"Seriously, you're surprised nothing happened? Even if demon summoning was real that was a pretty shit séance or whatever you call it, maybe you were missing the candles or some crap like that." Arthur said throwing in some sarcastic constructive criticism with his last comment. He sighed to himself no longer finding Josh's behavior funny or even embarrassing, he was just tired of it and even pitied the guy a bit.
"Alright, how about we head out of here now." Arthur was about to turn to leave but stopped dead in his tracks after hearing his voice which had Josh looking up with a joyful grin. He'd spoken with an Australian accent.
"What the hell is this? What did you do to my voice?!" He said in an angry yet panicked tone with his new voice as he approached Josh.
He only made it a few feet before he felt his body jolt causing him to nearly trip. As he straightened himself up he suddenly felt a lot more weight on his body, both front and back. He then looked down to see a pair of breasts hanging off his chest, then turning around and feeling his expanded ass behind him, in fact his whole body frame was now feminine.
"W.. what the fuck! What's happening to me?!" Arthur said with mumbled panic as his voice raised into a more feminine tone as he looked down horrified, before taking in that his hands were becoming daintier whilst his nails lengthened and gained red polish.
"Ah god!" He exclaimed still with an Australian accent as he stumbled around on the spot, his thighs jiggling as they gained mass along with his hips expanding, thickening his already feminine form.
"Stop this! Please!" He wailed at Josh before looking down to see his shoes were gone, replaced with shiny pink heels. His jeans then suddenly tore away from the reshaping of his legs revealing thigh high pink boots.
"God.. uuah! uuUAAAH!" He moaned from the sensations of his shifting form as his breasts and ass began to expand further, gradually pumping themselves out in a rhythmic thrust whilst his penis and genitals receded further into his body, gently pleasuring the newly forming vagina. The rest of his body also thickened slightly with each movement. As his body expanded his dirty blonde hair also began gradually lengthening out with each thrust of his chest and ass, as the tips darkened into a black colour that gradually spread up to his scalp. The same went for his head and face which with each thrust crunched and shifted, his jaw thinning whilst his cheekbones emerged, along with his lips puffing out whilst his eyes and eyebrows expanded.
His breasts were expanding to such a large size that his shirt ripped open, only for it to reveal a necklace as well as a tight pink latex dress hugging his thick curves that squeaked with his body's movements, before a set of matching pink belts slithered out from behind him and around his waist. His jacket also slid partway off his shoulders as it rolled over itself, shifting and contorting into a pink fur jacket that left his shoulders bare.
With his original clothes completely gone and his form no longer resembling his former self Arthur continued his feminine moans through the last few crunches, squelches and rubbery squeaks of his body. A final few crunches were heard as his head shape finished adjusting whilst his breasts ceased their expansion, the formerly visible bulge in the skirt of his dress now having been completely enveloped along with his hair now having fully lengthened into a ponytail that wrapped his hair tightly against the top of his head, showing off its new shape. With a blink his lips became a glossy pink whilst makeup materialized around his eyes.
With that where Arthur once stood was now the form of Angela White encased head to toe in pink, panting from the ordeal of the transformation.
Tumblr media
"You're so fucking hot." Josh said practically drooling at the sight in from of him.
"You.. freak! Change.. me back!" Arthur stammered out as he tried to catch his breath.
"Oh crap, I must have only formed the vessel, she still needs to enter it." Josh blurted out looking quickly back at the scroll.
"Give me that scroll before.. I kill you!" Arthur blurted out standing on shaky legs as he attempted to charge at Josh, only for his unfamiliarity with his new form to best him as he tripped over, his fall cushioned by his chest.
"Ah, here it is." Josh said pointing his hand at Arthur who was getting back up with rage filled eyes.
"Feel her." Josh said, the words echoing around Arthur's head causing him to stumble backwards.
"Wh- what are you.. doing..?" Arthur stammered as his mind became foggy.
"Feel her!" Josh said only slightly louder, but the words echoed loudly in Arthur's head.
"Oh god.. I feel her!" Arthur said, his voice being a mix of fear and awe as he looked up around him.
"My head she's- oh! OH!" Arthur's voice grew excited with pleasure as he began running his hands over his head then down the rest of his body, Josh standing back bewildered as to what would happen next.
"She's so.. tight! God! So good! Ah! I! CUMMING!" Arthur screamed and moaned out the last of his words before he took a quick breath as his posture relaxed.
Tumblr media
"Mmm... I am.. Angela. I am here to serve..." She said through a moan, her voice oozing with lust.
"Oh yeah! You'll be my loyal servant for all eternity." Josh said proudly through heavy breaths still in the rush of the situation.
"Of course, Mast.." Angela suddenly stopped mid sentence.
"Mast... *giggle!*" She tried again before covering her mouth as to not laugh, Josh frowning at why she was acting this way.
"Hahahaha! You seriously thought that would work?! You're probably one of the seven people in this day and age who even knows what I am, and you thought I'd just be your glorified slave! Hahahah! *wheeze!* Oh this is too good!" She said through hysterical laughter turning Josh red with embarrassment.
"S.. stop. I command you! I gave you this vessel, you owe me!" He yelled desperately.
"Oh. My. God! I'll never get over that! You really thought I'd just be a slave to you? And what's with the 'I owe you'? I'm not a genie you simpleton." Angela's tone varied from hysterical to incredibly aggressive and menacing.
"And for your information, the being with whom I share this vessel with is now in a mutual relationship with me, he's loving how all this.. feels right now." She said running her hands over herself again.
"He's awake, he's aware, I just made a couple tweaks to him so he'll be comfortable. He's the one who made the sacrifice here, I owe him, not you, especially as he was unwilling." Angela snapped at Josh who was silent with fear.
"Back in the day you were all savages but you at least had willing vessels for me, you tricked this guy into it. Sure I've done a lot in my time that was destructive and ruined lives, but when it comes to summoning me that's a rule that can't be disobeyed. Who knows, maybe a bit of him has rubbed off on me with my anger toward you. Either way, you're mine now."
With a point of her finger Josh's phone flew out of his pocket and into her hands.
"My my… There's a lot to go off here. Oh she's a nice one, she's got some massive ones! I think I'd like to see more of her." Angela said whilst looking at photos of various women Josh had been gawking at on social media.
Josh tried to run but without even needing to look at him Angela made another wave with her hand freezing him in place, arms and legs spread as he was levitated into the air in front of her.
"You see one such as myself cannot survive for so many centuries without varying my ways every now and then. I like to have fun, prey on those I encounter in whichever way is fitting. Some would call me an angel for saving them from miserable fates, others would call me a demon for condemning them to what they saw as undesirable forms of existence. Either way I don't see what's wrong with suddenly giving someone a nice pair of tits." Angela said eagerly
With a snap of her fingers her wardrobe suddenly changed to an all-red version of her previous outfit but with a now matching jacket.
Tumblr media
"Mmm.. red was always more my colour." She said inspecting herself.
Josh knew he was trapped and started yelling at the top of his lungs.
"Screaming for help? Oh please no one can see us, I've put us in our own little corner of reality, no one can see or hear us, and anyone that comes by will simply go straight through us, not seeing or feeling anything. Now, you wanted me to be your slave, you've all but chosen your fate then."
With that Angela snapped her fingers again and all of Josh's clothes vanished as a set of straps materialized around his wrists, thighs, waist and neck, along with his body being covered from the neck down by a shiny black bodysuit.
"You... can't.." he barely squeezed the words out through his restraints.
"..Do this? I've heard that so many times before but always wondered what exactly they're referring to, did you mean this?" With a twist of her wrist Josh's body fat vanished causing him to convulse from the sudden shift in his body mass which the bodysuit accommodated for.
"Or did you mean this?" She twisted her hand again and Josh's body hair vanished, along with him gaining a slight tan to his now unblemished skin.
"You know what, I think this was what you were referring to." Angela said and with that began making new hand motions whilst still looking at Josh's phone.
The straps violently tugged on Josh, compressing his waist into an incredibly thin form whilst expanding out slightly at the thighs, whilst his wrist and neck restraints tightened with his hands suddenly shrinking into daintier forms whilst his neck thinned causing his Adams apple to vanish raising his voice.
With more hand motions a loud squelching and churning could be heard as Josh's flesh and bone rearranged, his shoulders caving inwards whilst his limbs thinned into a more athletic feminine build. Smaller cracks and pops could be heard from his head as his skull and facial features rearranged into a more delicate form, a moan escaping from his lips as they puffed out.
Any thoughts of fear, in fact any thoughts at all had been eradicated from Josh's mind, he couldn't even remember his name anymore, all he could feel was pleasure as he heard a rumbling from his chest before a pair of breasts erupted outwards.
"Oooh fuck..." Josh moaned to himself in a feminine tone feeling the sensitivity of his new body, along with his ass easing its way outwards whilst his erect penis gradually retracted into him.
"Mmh.. harder.." He quietly cooed to himself as the final part of his penis remained, before his new pair of breasts suddenly tripled in size causing the remains of his manhood to be abruptly sucked up inside him, the new mass on his chest barely being contained by the bodysuit as the zip was forced open. As this occurred longer hair abruptly erupted from his scalp, wrapping itself into a ponytail.
"Mmmmh.." The final changes occurred as his newly feminized face gained makeup along with his nails gaining a red polish, any trace of Josh being gone with now a new woman remaining.
For a moment Angela played around with her new toy, running her fingers through the air sending ripples of pleasure through the new woman's body, before lowering her to the ground where she sat with her hands on her knees.
"There we are, a good submissive and attractive servant, just what you wanted Josh." Angela chuckled to herself before snapping her fingers again, teleporting the two of them to an expensive looking apartment.
"This is the home of a wealthy dominatrix, you'll serve her well." Angela said but the former Josh just sat there staring vacantly, she was now an empty shell waiting to serve her new mistress.
Tumblr media
"Now, you sit there quietly like a good girl and I'll be off. Places to go, people to 'adjust'." Angela said beginning to walk out of the room before taking a look back at the silent woman sat with a slight pleasured look on her face.
"God you turned out beautiful, I think a few more people would suit that form of yours." and with that she snapped her fingers a final time and vanished.
To be continued...

2023 Reading
I read a lot apparently! Below are my thoughts on the stories I've read so far this year. Also, if you’ve read a book and absolutely loved it, pitch it in the comments! Tell me why I should read it!
January
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick (4/5 stars)
This was a short read and overall I thought it was good. I thought the way the "andys" were characterized was particularly interesting. I think the book, despite being so short, was a filled with ideas and world building and what struck me is that those things didn't make the world feel more real. It felt as though those pieces of world-building served more to characterize our protagonists by way of their reaction to those ideas/religion/machines rather than serving to flesh out the world itself? Which is not necessarily bad, but idk, I guess I just wish the world felt more real or made a bit more sense to me.
The Mist in the Mirror by Susan Hill (3/5 stars)
I don't have a lot to say about this one. It was fine. Susan Hill is pretty good at atmosphere. I found the ending unsatisfying.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (3.5/5 stars)
This one was also fine. And I know it's nit-picky but I cannot get over the mother letting Beth's pet bird die in order to make a point about the importance of doing chores? Beth is a child and the bird didn't need to starve to death. Fuck you, Marmee.
Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer (5/5 stars)
Look, you have to already like Twilight to like this book. If you don't like Twilight or have never read it, then this book will not be enjoyable. If, however, you have read and enjoyed the Twilight series, then this book is great! You get insight into the world of Twilight, of Edward's character, of his family's thoughts and how they interact, and a look at his dark years of human hunting.
February
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (5/5 stars)
I love this book. I love the drama, the devotion, the camp, the characters. I cannot judge this book objectively, therefore 5 stars. I reread it in honor of my upcoming vacation to the Forever Twilight in Forks festival and I'm so glad I did!
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter (4/5 stars)
This is a collection of short stories. Each is a re-imagining of a fairy tale/legend. There was a lot of dark, feminine energy to these stories which I enjoyed. I would caution anyone who want to read the stories to first look up trigger warnings on storygraph, as the tales do get quite dark and gruesome at times.
The Blazing World by Margret Cavendish (3/5 stars)
This is a work of utopian science fiction written in 1666. It's short and not terribly interesting as a story but incredibly interesting as an early work of science fiction by a woman. Would recommend if you're interested in the history of genre fiction.
Beloved by Toni Morrison (3.5/5 stars)
This one was tough. The characters were brutal, their situations were brutal, and it was hard to read about. I did, however, like the narrative style and think it is an important work of fiction. I don't think it should be classified as a ghost story, as it often is.
The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath (4/5 stars)
This was a good book and a realistic depiction of what mental illness can look like. It was very much a downer though, especially with what we know about the author's life.
"A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor (undecided)
This is a short story. It does a good job of telling a story and allowing you to know the characters despite how short it is. I'm not sure how to rate is as I'm sure if I really "get" it.
Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert (1/5 stars)
My gosh! I hated reading this. I didn't care for God Emperor of Dune either but I felt I'd read so much of the series that I might as well finish it out, after all there was only two more books to go. Well. I won't be finishing it out. I finished this book but I will not be reading Chapterhouse: Dune. I'm so over the weird pedophilia that just gets more prominent with each Dune book. And one of the greatest things about Dune is the worldbuilding, but so much time has passed between the first book and this one that we are no longer in the same world. I cared about that world from the first couple books, but this one? I don't care anymore. I don't care about the characters either.
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson (3.5/5 stars)
This was a good coming of age story, although, to my relief, not very relatable. I found the story compelling but didn't care for the time jumps. I learned that it is partly autobiographical, which makes certain parts of the story make more sense.
The Vegetarian by Han Kang (3.5/5 stars)
This was alright. I get the appeal. It was distressing to read at times.
Vicky Angel by Jacqueline Wilson (2/5 stars)
Look, I just didn't like the book. I understand it's an exploration of childhood grief written for children and so I am certainly not the intended audience, but still, this was just not good. And the ending? Ugh.
March
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf (3/5 stars)
This is a stream of consciousness story with a few time jumps back and forth. I liked reading some parts, others not so much. It can get a bit dull at times. Iconic last lines.
The Complete Tales of Peter Rabbit and Friends by Beatrix Potter (3/5 stars)
As with many collections, there are some stories I enjoyed and some I did not. A couple that I thought I would not want read to any children in my life, which surprised me because these are such beloved stories.
The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin (4/5 stars)
Enjoyable but not my favorite. Not something I would revisit I think. Lots of themes here about colonization, military, environmentalism, etc. A bit heavy handed, but that doesn't really bother me when I agree with the message being set forth.
April
nothing. no books here. I read part of Kindred during this month but didn't finish it until early May.
May
Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (4/5 stars)
I've always meant to read Octavia Butler's books but I'm not sure this was the best one to start with. Nevertheless, it was good.
A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers (4/5 stars)
I liked this one much better than the first book in the series, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. It did drag on a bit at times. I also feel like a lot of the tension could have been resolved quickly by characters just talking to each other which drove me nuts.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (3/5 stars)
It's not that this isn't a good book or an interesting work of early science fiction, it just dragged. I was so bored at times. This book took me so long to finish.
A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie (4.5/5 stars)
I can't quite bring myself to give this 5 stars. It was good though. As is always the case with Agatha Christie books, I did not guess the conclusion but feel as though I could have. Like there were probably enough hints, I just didn't pick up on them.
June
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (5/5 stars)
This was a very good read. Great atmosphere. I liked the way things were revealed. If you like a gothic tale or any of Shirley Jackson's other works, then certainly give this one a go.
I watched the movie in October and it was pretty faithful, as far as adaptations go. I did prefer the book.
August
New Moon by Stephanie Meyer (4/5 stars)
Look, is it as good as Twilight? No, but I still like it. I care about the characters and this book offered fun new additions to the world that Twilight introduced.
Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer (4/5 stars)
Second verse, same as the first.
The Knight, the Fool, and the Dead: Time Lord Victorious by Steve Cole (3/5 stars)
This was much shorter than I expected and ended in the middle of the story, which I didn't realize going in. It was fine. It's my first Doctor Who book and I didn't love it, which I am disappointed about.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Meyer (3.5/5 stars)
I do like this book, but it's not my favorite. I particularly liked the character of Freaky Fred and I'm glad I reread this book so that I could be reminded of him.
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare (4/5 stars)
I watched a play adaptation as I read along, which I find really useful for me when reading Shakespeare. I have trouble imagining how the characters say a line, what they would be doing as they say it, etc. so watching helps me contextualize. I liked it. I thought it was funny. It wasn't perfect and I didn't love the wrap up but, overall, it was enjoyable.
The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare (2/5 stars)
I listened to the audio book rather than reading the play. I did not care for it. I thought the ending was fascinating but other than that, this was just not my cup of tea.
All Flesh is Grass: Time Lord Victorious by Una McCormack (3/5 stars)
This one was slightly better than the previous Doctor Who book, but I still didn't really care for it. It's hard to put my finger exactly on why though.
Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer (3.5/5 stars)
It pains me to give such a low rating to a book in a series I love so much, but this book is just not as good as the others. I still like it okay, but not like I love the others. Maybe she can redeem it in the next book. (That's right. I'm still holding out hope that we'll get another and it'll fix the bits I don't like about this one.)
September
The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie (4/5 stars)
I thought this one was quite good. I am bummed, as always, that I couldn't guess the killer.
Gigi and The Cat by Colette (3/5 stars)
This is actually two separate stories. I preferred Gigi I think, but both were solidly 3 stars. The most interesting thing was the little biography about Colette at the beginning of the book.
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare (4/5 stars)
This one was enjoyable. Again, I did a read-along as I watched the play performed. It had some fantastic lines.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (3/5 stars)
Look up trigger warnings about this one before you read. The book was just okay. I guessed the ending pretty early on, which I've been led to understand is not usual for this book. I think is probably the mark of a good thriller writer if most people won't guess the ending/twist/killer/etc but you've included enough clues so that a small subset of the audience will. But it didn't make for a particularly interesting read if you're in the subset that picked up on the clues early. I also was very interested to see how the writer handled the issue of self-harm in the book. Still not sure how I feel about it.
October
Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie (3/5 stars)
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I enjoyed the last Chrisie book I read, but it was okay I think. I read it because I wanted to watch the movie coming out, and I think murder mysteries are so much more interesting in book form.
Watched the movie and decided there’s no way this should be considered an adaptation of the book. A couple of names remain the same but the characters, their relationships, and the murders are so wildly different than they are in the book that I don’t even see the point of using the same names.
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (4/5 stars)
I liked it overall. I liked the characters. I think a little more development of our main two would have been nice. Controversial, but I did NOT like the meme references. Why would Harrow know the “studied the blade” joke? Also, why does Harrow know what a Cuckoo is? And apparently they’re all speaking English 10,000 years in the future because otherwise Gideon’s Sex Pal joke wouldn’t work. The ending made me sad.
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (3/5 stars)
I liked the story overall and I think the AUs were fun, but I think they took up way too much of the book. I especially liked getting to see Gideon again and to hear her thoughts about what’s going on.
Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (3/5 stars)
Maybe this one’s on me, but I can’t figure out where the conversation with Jod is happening? It takes up half the book and I don’t understand it at all. It just feels like exposition dump. I’m really hoping I like the next one better.
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (3/5 stars)
This isn’t a bad book, but it’s not really to my tastes. It’s a period drama and sapphic.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (5/5 stars)
I’ve read this one before and it’s a favorite of mine. It’s slow moving and, when I first read it, was such a relieving break from all the grimdark fantasies that were everywhereeeee at the time. (This book came out when Game of Thrones was at its height in popularity.) this book is just nice and so is Maia.
All Systems Red by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
I enjoyed this book. So much so, that I read the rest of the series and then immediately went back to reread it again. I like murderbot. I also want to face the wall in a corner when people try to ask me about my feelings.
Artificial Condition by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
This one might be my least favorite of the murderbot diaries, but I still like it. (That being said, I think I’ll grow to like it more in time. After all, we get the foundation of MB and ARTs relationship.) It introduces ART, gives us more context for MB’s past, and allows for MB’s sense of self to develop. By the end, we (and it) have a much better understanding of how it feels about humans and what lengths it’s willing to go to. The book also gives much needed explanation about how MB manages to blend in and operate. So all in all, I like it but feel like it’s mostly just filling in gaps.
Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
Another good one! Really challenging how MB views human/bot relationships. MB is such a funny narrator, it spends so much time being like “I don’t care” and then proceeds to care So Much. Also Miki <3
Exit Strategy by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
Wooo!! The gang is back (partly). MB must face those it’s run away from! Weapons and hacking and emotional stand offs! What more could you want?
Network Effect by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
This one might be my favorite. I really liked it. I love when a character goes feral because their friend is dead/in danger and this book does it TWICE. It’s so good!
Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
This one is another gap filling book. It lets us see what MB got up to while on Preservation. Which, if you’re really interested in the character (which I am) then it’s a good read! Also we got to see Gurathin and Ratthi again and I love them both.

Hey! hope you're doing alright, I just read your Legend (1985) movie review and noticed that you have a lot of knowedge about fantasy movies from that period, so I wanted to ask if you know a movie that I loved when I was a kid and I have been looking for it for ages.
What I remember about the movie is that the protagonist is a girl with short black hair, who lives in our world but ends in a fantasy world, where she meets a werewolf (If I'm not wrong he tries to eat her but he can't do it, don't remember why he can't), some kind of witch is after this girl, I think she had something the witch wanted (I think the werewolf was the witch's minion). Then I remember the end, where the girl returns to her world and the werewolf follows her because he is in love with her. I also remember at some point in the movie the girl eats an caramel apple and she wans't suppose to do that, don't remember why, also remember that the werewolf propose to her in the fantasy world.
That's all I remember, sorry if is so little but I hope you could help me, I loved that movie when I was a kid and I just were able to watch it when it was on TV, so I never learned the name of the movie.
Thanks for reading my ask and hope you have a great day!
Tumblr media
Oooooh, great question! And thanks for the inquiry into my well-being! Doing good, just a little busier than I want to be these days; but I’ll be back shortly, I promise that! In truth, I'm not entirely sure which movie you're referring to, as I may need more details on it. BUT, were I to venture a guess, it sounds a little bit like the 1984 werewolf film The Company of Wolves, a British fantasy film starring Angela Lansbury (R.I.P.), Sarah Patterson, and David Warner, as well as a take on the Red Riding Hood story. There are a couple of things that make me think it could be this movie, like the phrase about "never eating windfall apples", and the fusion of our world and a fantasy world, as well as a romanticized take on the original story.
Tumblr media
Buuuuuuuut, on the flip-side, its protagonist is a long-haired brunette, and I can't necessarily think of any witches in the story, so that's a little bit of a conflict. However, if you have any other details (live-action vs. animated, country of origin or present accents in the film, when you remember watching it in terms of time period), that might help! So, if this isn't it, I'll take some more details to try and help you out! If anybody else has any details, feel free to contribute!

The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter
Angela Carter was a storytelling sorceress, the literary godmother of Neil Gaiman, David Mitchell, Audrey Niffenegger, Kelly Link, and other contemporary masters of supernatural fiction. In her masterpiece, The Bloody Chamber--which includes the story that is the basis of Neil Jordan's 1984 movie The Company of Wolves--she spins subversively dark and sensual versions of familiar fairy tales and legends like "Little Red Riding Hood," "Bluebeard," "Puss in Boots," and "Beauty and the Beast," giving them exhilarating new life in a style steeped in the romantic trappings of the gothic tradition. -Storygraph
Angela Carter is somehow on another plane when it comes to storytelling. She weaves her words so elegantly, and yet there is some kind of beautiful danger to them. With all of her talks of wolves and beasts, her stories also have the edge of a predator to them, alluring and graceful, yet will also devour you whole if you're not too careful. This was my first time reading any of Carter's work, knowing that many of my favorite authors drew inspiration from her and, upon finishing the book, it's so clear how her influence survives in the horror written today. I know Neil Gaiman has listed her as one of his influences, which makes sense given the way both tend to incorporate some sort of vagueness into their works.
This collection of stories has so much depth within it that you almost need to take notes to get the full experience. That's not a bad thing for me personally, as I'm one to dissect stories that interest me, and Carter makes her writing rich with allegories and symbolism hidden within retellings of fairy tales we all know so well. Even as I'm writing a review, I'm still trying to figure out what some of them mean. It's not a collection meant for a bit of light reading, as Carter goes to great lengths to rework the familiar into something disturbing, yet truthful.
"The Snow Child" in particular was a short, yet provocative story, showing that Carter is more than willing to include a taboo or two to get a message across. Here, we see a rich man of status riding with his wife, wishing for a beautiful girl. This story, through its dreamlike atmosphere and imagery, deals with the discarding nature of the upper class, of how a man of rank can seek mistresses, young girls, when it pleases him, only to cast them aside when they have outlived their use and before they cast too much attention away from their wives.
Several of Carter's stories take on a feminist slant, dealing with themes of agency, maturity, sexual exploration, and the damaging effect of the patriarchy. The latter is an interesting one, especially as it's framed in "The Erl-King." We see a woman fall in love with a man of the woods, only to feel herself ensnared and trapped by him. She feels excited yet also terrified by his presence, which can be both intimidating and sensual. He keeps a flock of birds in cages within his hut, and the woman fears that she will become much the same. Yet, though the man treats his birds well and cares for them, they are still trapped within gilded cages. The story deals mainly in gender roles, how both men and women suffer from the patriarchy and what is typically expected of each of them.
I could go on and on about what each story means, how "The Courtship of Mr. Lyon" gives the Beauty of this Beauty and the Beast retelling a great deal of agency, predating the Disney version by a good decade, or how "Wolf-Alice" reflects the process of self-actualization and the effect of isolation in that process. I'm sure it's been the work of several dissertations in the past. But for now, I'm comfortable saying that if you're in the mood for something darker, a little more subversive, this is a collection you don't want to miss.

"You have made incredible progress," I remarked. "You're already almost finished with the Foxspell."
Tumblr media
"I was always the fastest reader in my coven," Rebecca replied proudly. "Fastest reader in Bunkirk too, which caused me to be viewed with some suspicion. It's a gift."
"Impressive," I stated. "This section of the book is mainly just practical advice. It doesn't seem to have any spiritual significance. The part about digging holes is just that. No deeper meaning. Now, the passage that's obscured consists of a number of lessons on pranking and playing tricks, because merry mischief is part of being an elf - or so Saint Reynard believed. Most of this stuff is harmless, and I'm not sure why it would be hidden, unless … some of those pranks are ones we customarily play on lowfolk, and a few of them, if I recall, contain simple magicks."
"Ooh!" Rebecca exclaimed, grabbing the book and peering into it eagerly.
"I would suggest paging through this until you find a paragraph you can read, and then working from there."
I left her flipping pages and giggling, and walked back over to Vernier.
"Yes," I said thoughtfully as I approached. "I agree that I should send an Ixie to contact Oak, and I hope that she will be willing and able to make the journey back to visit me. Now then, it is getting late. I've no objection to you spending the night here, but I assume you would rather sleep at home in your own bed. Before we adjourn, let's agree on the best way to put our plans for the immediate future into action. I will compensate you with some gold coins to support yourself while you spread marvelous stories of 'Randall the White Elf' so my legend will be on everyone's minds. You will also make periodic trips back here with food, supplies, and news."
These supply visits would also be an opportunity to spend more time with Vernier and gradually win her heart!
Tumblr media
"Sir?" she asked after a lengthy pause. "Are you all right? You've got that faraway look in your eyes."
"Ahem," I coughed, regaining my composure. "Since you are still in my employ, I will of course continue to pay you for your labor. You also need not worry about your safety. I shall see to it that you are guarded and protected by Ixies, and here in the forest the trees themselves will also protect you. I will make sure there is an easy path which you may take to shorten your journey to and from this stone circle."
"Sounds good so far," Vernier admitted.
"Now then, about Rebecca," I continued. "She is open to elfly things and she is making good progress, but she has needed my help to guide her and keep her on track. I believe it is necessary to have her stay here with me, under my tutelage, until she is advanced enough to pursue her studies on her own."
"My neighbors are going to ask where she went," Vernier protested. Did I detect a note of jealousy?
"You may tell them that Rebecca took on an apprenticeship, which is true. Meanwhile I will also be practicing these new abilities I've discovered. If I can master how to conjure things from nothing, then it won't be necessary to have food delivered as often."
As I said it, I realized that success in this endeavor would mean less need for Vernier to visit. What a dilemma!
"Sir, you're doing it again," Vernier sighed.

Before I could respond, Angela Weakflit fluttered up and saluted.
"Reporting 4 my debriefing, Your Dreaminess," she giggled.
"Ah," I replied. "Have you discovered the source of the bell sound?"
"LOL wut R U talking about?" Angela laughed. "Ive been recuperating N teh infirmary & only just now recovered from a bad case of teh Vapors. Everybody's gone! But I remember I need 2 C U 4 debriefing, so hear I am."

More about credits because your moderator is weird
I realized, in my previous post, I should have simply explained the "with" credit as giving the actor flowers. It probably also reflects pay scale because it shows what the agents were able to negotiate. (But it's not a 1:1.)
I went back to check about the Chris Pratt thing because I was worried I dreamed it. (Turns out I am crazy but not that kind of crazy.)
The ENDGAME credits are very interesting for looking at the Marvel hierarchy of a stars, and how they value their talent. There are obviously separate tiers. You can tell each time it restarts alphabetically.
0. [The six "lead" actors come last but would be here at the top but they actually come last in these particular credits.] Below them:
-- Lead actors from Marvel movies. Below the six, but still "stars." Chadwick Boseman is here.
--- Below that are recurring Marvel actors but those that never had their own movie. Letitia Wright is here. Angela Bassett is here.
then it has "featuring" which is a special call out reserved for the voice actors (Cooper and Diesel). I think it's to keep them happy that they aren't down in the regular credits even though they never appear in the movie.
And then, we get the "with" credits. These are people Marvel is thanking for being in the movie basically. It is with Gwynth Paltrow (I know that's not how you spell her name but it's something weird), Robert Redford, Josh Brolin (I'm not sure he really deserves this but he is like half the movie and would otherwise be lumped in with other actors so, fine), Chris Pratt (????) and Samuel L. Jackson.
---- and waaaay below that are the regular actors and crew.
tl;dr Chris Pratt's agent is some kind of miracle worker. You're telling me he is on the same level of Redford, who in addition to being a Hollywood legend, retired while this movie was in production? Get out of here!
... And I guess that's also why he's in every movie now.
