"Wish Granted" AU: Asha
Tumblr media
All right, you voted for Asha and her family first, so here we go! (Above concept Art by Bill Schwab. I was really drawn to this one, so I'm gonna use thus as her design.
So for this Wish AU, Asha was raised partially in Rosas as a kid, but then after father passed, and some of the citizens learned of Magnifico's true intentions, her family and other citizens quietly moved to the Hamlet known as "The Enchanted Forest". (Basically reached age 12 in Rosas, and then 13-18 in the Hamlet.)
As a kid, she was full of curiosity about the world around her, especially wildlife. She learned about how the stars guided people from her father Tomás, which inspired to want to see more of the world outside the Kingdom. When her father grew ill for seemingly unknown reasons, Asha's mother Sakina pleaded with the King to heal him. The man promised her this, but time went on and eventually Tomás passed. Maginifico had never intended to help.
Because of this, Asha grew to be more pessimistic as she got older. She no longer believed in the impossible or anything good to happen relying on magic, or anyone else to solve her problems for that matter. Even so, part of her desire for excitement still lingered, and nobody knew this better than her grandfather Sabino, whom she grew closer with over the years and became a second father to her.
With her wonder all but gone, she would end up getting help to save her family from the most unexpected source. For she wished on a Star, and the Star answered.
Tumblr media
Now since Asha got along with other kids when she was little, part of that still stays with her, as she does read to the other kids there from time to time. (Think of this as a reference to Belle, who also loved to read) Even though she lost part of her childhood, didn't mean they had to lose theirs. So she enjoyed reading stories to them.
As for my choice of a Voice Actress, surprisingly my mother suggested Diamond White. Right now she's mainly known for being Lunella in "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" She's already a talented singer and play a range of emotions while still acting in character for her.
youtube
For Sakina, I'm still planning her story out, but I can say that she does have a wish herself. It is in fact is similar to Asha's, but I'll reveal more in the story.
Sabino.....he was so underutilized in the movie, its criminal. Victor Garber deserved better. While he's not 100 years old, he is in his late 80's. Normally, he's a spry old man and actually still carries a lot of youth in his personality. However, with his wish never being granted, its started to affect his health. He does his best to stay active and gives advice to Asha during that "Wishing Tree" Scene. When his health starts to deteriorate faster and renders him nearly bedridden, this starts Asha drive to return to Rosas and save everyone's wishes
Tumblr media
youtube
And lastly: Valentino!
Tumblr media
No, Valentino doesn't speak in this version. 😅 That'll be saved for the end, and he'll be voiced by an actual kid. (Disney, we didn't need a Donkey knock off, you do realize he was a parody right?) He might be only be three weeks old, but he's very attached to Asha from the start. He was a gift to her by Sabino as an early 18th birthday present in case his declining kept him from celebrating it with her.
The little goat is the runt of the litter, but has the heart the size of the forest itself. Always sticking by Asha's side and cheering her up when she really needs it.
Valentino is also very trusting of new people, but when Star comes down he does freak the heck out and doesn't him for a while. I mean he's not even human!
Oh and just as an extra character addition, I'm also having Flazino in this AU, since many people pointed out he was originally part of the film and had a bigger role. He's closest to a human friend Asha has in the Hamlet, as he gives them supplies and updates about the kingdom as Magnifico's apprentice.
That wraps up my first character list! Next up will be Star and then the King and Queen. Hope you enjoyed reading this preview to the story, or have any suggestions in the comments! 🌟

Tumblr media
Holy fuck, did your head hurt. Your ears were ringing really loudly and everything was black. Add to the list your limbs felt like they were full of sand and you were not having a good time. After a long moment, the ringing began to subside enough to make out some (unfamiliar) voices, who seemed to be bickering above you somewhere.
“She needs to go to a hospital. Like, now.” One of the voices argued. “Look at her.”
“And tell them what, Steve, that she fell from the sky?” Another voice, this one younger, replied.
“I don’t know, man, I think Harrington’s right. She doesn’t look so good.” A third voice, this one a bit deeper than either of the others, said. “Add to that the fact that she fell from the fucking sky.”
You tried your best to lift your eyelids, but everything was so heavy. Too heavy to move.
“Well we have to do something! We can’t just stand there and let her—” This voice sounded like a girl. A paranoid one at that.
“Wait, look.” The deep voice said, causing all of the others to stop talking for a moment. Even with your eyes closed, you could feel all of their gazes on you.
You attempted to speak, to say something, but the best you could manage was a low whine. You wiggled your fingers the slightest bit, pushing, pushing, pushing to the surface.
“I think she can hear us.” The first voice, Steve, deduced.
You felt a hand against yours. Large, warm fingers, and something cold, like metal.
“Hey, it’s okay. Take your time.” The deeper voice encouraged.
You took a long, deep breath, and then, after an impossibly long moment, you managed to open your eyes, all of your limbs tingling as you did so. “Fuck.” You groaned, struggling to move, but realizing very quickly that that wouldn’t be happening just yet.
“Oh my God,” The girl said, a hand covering her mouth. Her hair was cut short and there was this quirky, unexplainable energy about her. “Hi. Um. Are you okay?”
“I don’t know.” You replied, exhaling a sigh as you looked to the others in the room. And as soon as you did, something was…wrong. For starters, one of them looked like he’d stepped out of an 80’s hair band, and the other older boy looked like he had about half a tub of hair gel holding up his shiny brown hair. “Oh God…” You muttered.
Slowly, you began to sit up. There was a fourth person in the room, this one obviously younger than the other three. He was wearing a baseball cap with vibrant neon letters on it, and he had a walkie-talkie in his hand. They all stared at you, waiting for you to speak, or say something further.
“I…where am I?”
“Hawkins, Indiana.” The youngest said, his eyes expectant.
You pressed your lips together, skeptical to say the least. “No, that can’t…” You looked at the décor around the room, old posters for movies and musicians and they were all a little…too vintage to be anything anyone your age would have. Well…unless… “Is this…What…year is it?”
You asked the question slowly and they were all quiet for a really long time, staring at you like you’d sprouted antennae all of a sudden.
“You’re not saying what I think you’re saying, right?” The youngest asked, visibly getting a bit excited at the prospect. “Because if you’re saying what I think you’re saying…”
“Let her speak, Dustin, Jesus.” The guy with the gel in his hair, Steve, you connected, based on his voice.
“Because, I mean, you all look like you’re…from like the ‘80s.” You shook your head. You sounded crazy even saying it out loud. “But that would be—”
“It’s not crazy.” The girl reassured you. “Because, uh, it is the ‘80s. 1986.”
“Fuck.” You repeated, this time more in awe and shock than when you had groaned it before in nothing but pain. Though, you would admit, you were a little nauseous, thinking about it. “I…wow.”
“You okay?” The guy with the deeper voice and the hair band hair asked, noticing your discomfort.
“I don’t know.” You repeated, shaking your head and letting out a breathy laugh. “Holy fuck this is not happening…” To say you were having a bit of a breakdown was putting it lightly.
“Do you remember what happened before you came here?” Dustin asked.
“Yeah, I blew out my birthday candles.”
“Happy birthday!” The girl said sincerely.
You smiled. “Thank you.” You paused, thinking back. “Yeah, no, that’s it. Twenty-first birthday party one minute and this couch the next.”
Putting the pieces together, you rolled up the sleeve of your shirt. Sure enough, there it was, silver and gleaming and glittering and fresh. Your soulmark.
“You…you don’t happen to know a Steve Harrington or an Eddie Munson, do you?” You looked up at them, watching their faces as they looked at you and then each other, and then raced to lift their sleeves to look for themselves.
“You’re (Y/N) (L/N)?” Steve asked tentatively, reading from his arm and looking up at you.
“Yeah, I am.”
“Holy fuck! I knew it!” Eddie jumped, pumping his fist while Steve’s handsome features broke into a giant smile, looking at you with soft eyes. Eddie knelt down in front of you and took your hand in his, looking into your eyes. “I knew there was something about you.” He paused for a moment. “But seriously, do you need to go to the hospital?”
***
It had been approximately an hour. Steve got you some Tylenol and a Cherry Coke and made sure you were comfortable on the couch. Dustin looked like it was taking every ounce of self-control he had to not ask you a billion questions, and Eddie hadn’t left your side for a single second. Robin, meanwhile, was informing the rest of their friend group as to what had happened, and developing a more permanent plan for you.
“When are you from?” Dustin finally cracked, curiosity glinting in his eyes. He had a notebook on hand.
“Dustin, please.” Steve said, exasperated.
“It’s okay.” You told him, chuckling softly. Steve and Eddie both waited for your answer as well, more than curious, due to your connection to them. “I’m from 2022.”
Eddie’s jaw dropped and Steve’s eyes widened. “That’s uh…” Eddie started to do the math in his head, but stopped when he realized what a large number it was. He whistled. “That’s a while from now.”
Steve made an awkward face. “Yeah, you could say that again.”
“How long have you two had your marks?” You asked both of them, looking from one to the other.
Steve chuckled to himself. “It’s only been a few months since we figured out we were each other’s soulmates. But we’d never even heard your name before, (Y/N).”
“Been looking for you ever since, though.” Eddie amended quickly. “To no avail, for obvious reasons.”
You looked down at his shirt. “Is that an X-Men reference?”
“Is what—” He looked down and then smiled. “Yeah, it is. I, uh, named my DnD club after the Hellfire Club.”
“Oh my god, you’re a vintage DnD nerd.” You said excitedly. “What class are you?”
He smirked confidently. “I’m the DM.”
“Holy shit.” You smiled. “That’s hot.”
Eddie was absolutely glowing at this compliment. “Glad you think so, sweetheart.”
“It’s like they’re speaking another language.” Steve chuckled to himself.
“See, Harrington, I told you, you need to start coming to Hellfire.” Dustin said, grinning.
“Should have known my other soulmate would be a nerd, too.”
Eddie smirked and gave Steve a little nudge. “You love it.”
Steve couldn’t help but smile a bit. “Yeah, I do.”
“Harrington here was cool in high school.” Eddie informed you. “King Steve. Got invited to parties and shit.”
You smiled and looked at him, taking in this new information. “That checks out.”
“He’s also a badass. He fights monsters on occasion. Saved my life a bunch.”
“Well damn.” You tilted your head, looking at him. “I can see it.”
“Eddie, babe, you’re gonna blow up my ego.” Steve laughed. He chuckled to himself about the whole thing. “How are you doing, by the way? You know, with all of this.” Steve motioned to the room around you.
You smiled softly. “I’m okay. You guys are making it a lot easier, that’s for sure.”
“Good. Good. I’m glad.” He nodded, a bit relieved.
Robin came down the stairs a few minutes later with a basket of clothes. “Mrs. Byers gave us some of her clothes, too. She said (Y/N) can stay with her if she wants to.”
“Aww, that’s nice of her.” Dustin said, smiling.
“We can take her back to our place, too.” Steve offered, looking at Eddie, who nodded. And then he looked to you. “You know, if you want to of course. We don’t want to rush you or anything.”
“It’s totally up to you.” Eddie tacked on. “No pressure.”
Their chemistry was adorable, you decided. You wondered how long they’d known each other before the universe decided to tell them they were actually meant to spend the rest of their lives together. Maybe you’d get to ask them soon.
“I’d love to stay with you two.” You told them.
“Cool. Awesome. Um, do you think you can walk?” Steve asked, looking you over. You seemed to be doing a lot better than when they first saw you, but given the circumstances, he couldn’t be sure.
“I might need a little help,” you admitted. Despite your best efforts, you were still trembling and your legs felt like Jell-O. Luckily, you had not one, but two soulmates more than ready to assist you.
“No worries.” Steve said, kneeling in front of you. He waited for your approval, and when you nodded, he slipped an arm under your knees, the other wrapping around your back for support. “I’ve got you.”
He lifted you with ease, carrying you up the stairs with Eddie following the two of you closely, your can of Cherry Coke in his hand and his car keys in the other.
“You’re strong.” You said, your arm loosely hanging around Steve’s shoulders for more support.
He blushed. “Well who do you think carried you in here, princess?”
“I think I now have the answer to that question.” You chuckled, very aware of just how close his face was to yours. God, it was true what they said about soulmates. The attraction was…immediate.
Eddie unlocked the car, opened your door, and climbed into the driver’s seat while Steve gently set you in the passenger seat, buckling you in. Steve then climbed into the back seat.
Unlike usual, Eddie didn’t peel out of the driveway at a neck-breaking speed. Instead, he backed out slowly and drove like you were made of glass and he was afraid at every turn that you would shatter. Or puke in his van, one of the two.
“Uh, what kind of music do you like?” Eddie asked, changing the radio to something a little more mainstream than his usual tastes.
“All sorts of stuff. In terms of stuff you would know, um…ABBA and Elton John and Queen…”
“Solid choices.” Steve said. “Is their music still popular then?”
“Elton John just had a musical made about his life, Queen got a Biopic called Bohemian Rhapsody, and ABBA’s music spurned not one, but two jukebox musical movies. So yeah, still pretty popular.”
“And the rock and metal and stuff?” Eddie asked.
“It still has a cult following. Tons of super dedicated fans, but it’s not super mainstream.”
Eddie grinned. “Okay, cool.”
The ride to Eddie and Steve’s new townhouse wasn’t super long. It wasn’t a huge place, but it was the perfect size for two—now three—people. Once Eddie parked, you opened the passenger door and swiveled so your legs were facing the opening. Steve got out quickly and stood right there, ready to catch you.
“I want to try to walk.” You said, sliding out of the seat and letting your feet touch the pavement. Steve’s arm hovered loosely around your waist, ready to catch you if this wasn’t such a good idea yet.
Somehow, though, you got up the steps and through the front door without too much trouble. Eddie went ahead and turned all the lights on, as the sun was nearing setting. You took in the surroundings. There wasn’t a ton of furniture, but that was the norm for college-age guys anyway. There were a couple posters on the walls, and you noticed a picture of Steve and Eddie together, Eddie wearing a graduation gown and grinning like he’d just won the lottery. Cute.
“Make yourself at home, sweetheart.” Eddie told you, his gaze soft and comforting.
And even though you hadn’t been there long at all, it was already beginning to feel like that word was accurate. Home.
“We, uh, have a VCR if you want to watch any movies.” Steve told you, motioning to the machine under the TV.
“You guys have Back to the Future?” You chuckled. “I feel like that one would be fitting, all things considered. Plus, it’s one of my favorite movies.”
“You’re into the oldies, huh?” Eddie teased, the concept of his present being your kind of distant past still weirding him out.
You thought about making some comment about them being the oldies, but decided against it. Probably too soon for that kind of thing. “Yeah, good thing, too.”
“Well, we do have a copy of it. I work at Family Video and—” Steve said, watching the face you made when he said it. “What?”
“Nothing, it’s just…That is a very vintage sentence.”
His eyes widened with something akin to panic. “What happens to Family Video?”
“They close. All of them. It’s tragic, really. Most media is just digital in the future. Physical media is almost dead.”
“Damn.” Steve shook his head, thinking about it very deeply. “Well, I’ve got about 36 years to get that figured out, huh.”
“We’ll find you a new job by then, babe.” Eddie patted Steve’s shoulder, comfortingly. “That, or my band will be big enough by then that I can just spoil both of you rotten.”
You settled into the couch, and the boys followed after pretty soon after, once Steve put Back to the Future in.
***
The movie ended and you were tired despite taking quite the nap before. Something about time travel just wiped you out. Steve and Eddie could both tell you’d probably be going to sleep pretty soon.
“Hey, so uh, we don’t have a guest room. Um…I’ll totally sleep on the floor out here and Eddie can take the couch and you can have our bed.” Steve explained, sounding a bit nervous.
“I’m not gonna let you sleep on the floor and the couch.” You shook your head. “If you want, um…I’d be okay with…sharing the bed with you guys. I mean, if it’s big enough. And if you want me to. If not, I can totally take the couch—”
“You are not sleeping on the couch after everything you’ve been through today, princess.” Eddie put his foot down. “I’m fine with you sleeping with us. I’m sure Steve is too. Not…not like that of course, just—”
“I get it.” You chuckled.
“Cool. Great. I’ll go get everything ready up there, alright?” Steve said, jabbing a thumb back towards the stairs.
You nodded. Eddie handed you the basket of clothes the girls had rounded up for you so you could find some pajamas in it. It looked like Joyce had gone out to get you some other basics, too. Underwear and socks and a toothbrush and stuff.
You found something suitable pretty quickly. “Um, Eddie, where’s your bathroom?”
“Right this way, milady.” Eddie helped you off of the couch and led you to the bathroom upstairs, where all of their toiletries were. Yep. This was definitely a boys’ bathroom. “Sorry it’s a mess in there. We weren’t expecting a beautiful guest such as yourself. We’ll clean it up, though.”
“It’s fine Eddie, thank you.”
“Yeah, no prob. Um…I’ll wait out here and listen in case you fall, okay?”
You grinned. “I’m not made of glass, you know.”
“Well, yeah, but I can’t have you hitting your pretty little head, now can I? Harrington would kill me.”
“Why would I kill you, Munson?” Steve asked, leaning against the doorway.
“If I left her alone and she hit her head in the bathroom.”
“Oh yeah. Yeah definitely.” Steve agreed, his arms crossed and a playful smile on his face. “We’ll be right here. No rush, though. Take your time.”
You did just that, taking a good long moment to change into pajamas, brush your teeth, and rinse your face with some cold water. But even when you did that and looked in the mirror, you were still in the ‘80s. Huh. Weird.
You shrugged and walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, where Steve and Eddie were on the bed in their pajamas, talking kind of quickly about, you presumed, the crazy new shake-up in their lives. Eddie noticed you and stared, silencing Steve immediately.
“Oh, babe, hey, what side of the bed do you want?” Steve asked and then hesitated. “Wait, should I not call you babe yet? Is it too soon?”
“You can call me whatever you want.” You assured him, laughing. “And, uh…can I sleep in the middle?”
Eddie and Steve both said “Yes.” At the same time.
“Cool.” You chuckled and crawled up the center of the bed, getting under the covers while the other two got in beside you. It was a little awkward, none of you knowing exactly what to say or do, and none of you wanting to be the first to do so.
Steve turned out the light and the three of you laid there on your backs, completely straight in their dark bedroom.
“You guys can touch me, you know.”
“Oh okay cool.” Eddie replied, turning a bit to face you. He took your hand gently in his own and reached up to your face with his other one, pushing the hairs out of your eyes. “I think I speak for both of us when I say I am so stoked you’re here. And I know it can be hard being in a new environment like this, but if you need anything, you’ve got both of us, alright?”
“Thank you.” You whispered, nodding, your voice caught in your throat a bit due to his proximity, his warmth, and that sparkle in his eyes when he looked at you like you were made of pure magic.
“What he said.” Steve scooted a bit closer, an arm carefully settling around your waist. “We’re not going anywhere. We’ll be right here in the morning and…we’re all gonna get this stuff figured out. I promise.”
You nodded against him, your free hand resting on his. “Can I…kiss you guys goodnight?”
Instead of replying, Eddie leaned forward slowly, capturing your lips in a soft, passionate kiss. And then he kissed your nose for good measure. “Goodnight, princess.” Eddie smirked before passing you off to Steve. Steve’s kiss was a little firmer, a little more confident, but still very sweet.
“Get some rest, babe.” Steve told you, pressing one last kiss to your forehead before the three of you called it a night.

every book i read at least a good chunk of in 2023 ranked under the cut grin😁
1. American Gods (2001)  by Neil Gaiman (currently reading) - simply a terrific book. Neil Gaiman at what I believe to be his best. Classic novel
2. Dhalgren (1975) by Samuel R. Delaney (currently reading) - monolithic 70s postmodern book that touches on issues of gender and race. very very good
3. Shantaram (2003) by Gregory David Roberts (currently reading) - very loveable and long book about the true story of an Australian man, arrested on heroin charges, who escapes prison to India and gets involved in arms trading. I'm only on like page 70 out of 900 but I'm deeply in love.
4. Going Postal (2004) by Terry Pratchett (currently reading) - discworld’s postal service! Plenty of hijinks. excellent book
5. Catch-22 (1961) by Joseph Heller (currently reading) - classic anti war satire, what can you say. Still ridiculously funny, the humor really doesnt age at all. it’s very screwball in a way that holds up. Such a joy to read
6. Sirens of Titan (1959) by Kurt Vonnegut - beautiful book, definitely my favorite of the three Vonnys that i finished this year. you can feel his love, as always
7. Cloud Cuckoo Land (2021) by Anthony Doerr- Charming book that spans multiple characters and time periods, all concerned with an ancient codex that symbolizes a sense of faith. I don't really remember this one much but I know I had a lot of fun reading it. Would recommend to anybody
8. Hell’s Angels (1967) by Hunter S. Thompson (currently reading) - very interesting book about, of course, the Hell’s Angels motorcycle club. Thompson becomes a fly on the wall, giving the reader a very, very, perhaps almost too close look at the bikers’ ways and rituals. Very good book if you’re into that sort of thing
9. Infinite Jest (1996) by David Foster Wallace (currently reading)- not much to say about the old Jest. classic annoying book. i read a good chunk this year
10. Bag of Bones (1998) by Stephen King - average 90s era King. still just as gripping as his 70s and 80s work but with a more comfortable writing style i think. pretty good
11. Detransition, Baby (2021) by Torrey Peters (currently reading) - not much to say about this one really. Its pretty good so far though, pretty classic transfem lit
12. The Dead Zone (1979) by Stephen King - this book had a terrifically gripping second act but then it kindof goes off in a different direction in act 3. Or rather, it feels like act 3 could have been its own decent short story, with the first two acts together being their own novel.
13. Equal Rites (1987) by Terry Pratchett - transmasc king. Girl wants to be a wizard instead of a witch, average discworld novel, nothing memorable but still pretty good
14. Galapagos (1985) by Kurt Vonnegut - Ok vonny book. It definitely had some strong Vonny moments but overall felt a little Different from the rest of his stuff. But maybe in a good way
15. Deadeye Dick (1982) by Kurt Vonnegut - middling vonnegut novel. It was ok. But an ok kurt vonnegut book is still a really good book
16. On the Road (1957) by Jack Kerouac - classic beat novel. pretty good if you're into slice of life 1940s/50s stuff, which you probably arent, but if you are and you haven’t checked this out, go for it!
17. Nevada (2013) by Imogen Binnie - Decent, however it felt very bare bones in a way that, for instance, Detransition, Baby makes up for.
18. The Rum Diary (1998) by Hunter S. Thompson - To be honest I don’t remember this one At All but i know i read it in like 3 days so its gotta be good. Still cant put it too high in the ranking though sorry hunter
19. And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks (1945) by Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs - first ever book written by either of them, and it’s ok. It’s supposed to be a murder mystery but the murder doesnt happen until like the last 20 pages so idk
20. The Colour of Magic (1983) by Terry Pratchett - first discworld. Not that memorable but i wouldnt say it was bad either
21. 1Q84 (2009) by Haruki Murakami (dropped) - I really wanted to like this one. And i did, *mostly*. However, Murakami has this writing style that is obsessively technical and formal and makes for incredibly unnatural monologues, for one thing. This is just a personal preference though; I know it's very acclaimed. I'm honestly sad I couldn't make it past the writing style to enjoy it at least enough to make it through.
22. The Road (2006) by Cormac McCarthy (dropped) - too edgy

Be thinking about why Kiki's delivery service resonates so much with people more and more as time goes by and I think there's actually a couple different ways to look at it..
The first is nostalgia. Whether you grew up with this movie or not it really taps into a nostalgic place. A very 'simpler story from a simpler time', even the chaos "big city" seems pretty tame compared to modern day. And like most studio ghibli movies, do it takes a little time to romanticize the simpler, more old fashioned ways of life.
The second reason is how well it depicts burn out and depression. This is a childers movie that came out in the 80's and I'm not sure that I could think of a better example. Kiki pushed herself to the point that she loses her magic and losing her magic throws her into a depressive episode. She spends a lot of time alone, she has mood swings, and she trys and trys to fly but she can't. When she goes to visit Ursula she gives her some of the best advice for burn out
“Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don’t even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you’ll be flying again.”
Even when she gets her magic back she still can't talk to Jiji anymore because she's not the same as before.
Noralities has a great video about all this and explains it much better, you should definitely go watch it
But one thing she doesn't mention that I think is another reason this reaches so many people is Kiki's work itself. Kiki works a service job, like a lot of us do. Her first job she loses the toy she's suppose to delivery and works really hard to get it back but we see the kids is not interested in the toy at all. He's more excited about the cage it came in.
youtube
The other job we see her doing is delivering a pie to a girl's birthday party from her grandmother. When the old woman tells her she can't delivery it because the oven isn't working, Kiki immediately offers to help get the old wood oven work so they can cook the pie. When it's finally done she flies across town in a strom just for this ungrateful brat girl to take the pie, mention how much she hates her grandma's pies and then slam the door in her face. Kiki even missed a party that the first friend she had made invited her to for this delivery!
Kiki makes some little sacrifice throughout the movie. She takes her mom's broom at the start even though she worked hard on her own, she wants to buy newer clothes but has to buy food and kitchen supplies, she misses her party for work. Kiki is always shown working hard, in the bakery, cleaning up her new space, and especially with her delivery service. Kiki literally work herself sick and she's barely even thanked.
And I think that's why Kiki's delivery service resonates so much with me

ages gracefully currently he’s 34 in my rewrite and he still looks 24 same goes to gene (but Mystreet seasons 1 - 3 takes place in their early 20’s and mid 20’s; which is the past I know it’s confusing but so is my head so yeah. If ur wondering seasons 4 - 6 don’t exist and never will be canon to me :))
pretty masculine but still uses makeup and “women’s” perfume / skin care doesn’t care tho
cooks really well but he’s not the best because Laurence is and no one else can compete
when he was dating nana he learned Japanese for her and can speak around 80% of it, basically he can hold up a long conversation he can also speak other languages:
English (obviously, American accent)
French 65% Spanish (Mexican dialect cuz he’s Mexican)
(Spain dialect, he learned the European dialect first then worked his way up to Mexican dialect, he can switch between dialects easily)
he can also understand some Portuguese :)
very picky with fast food, he prefers healthy food but he does like pizza
really calm and chill (unlike his canon version) opposite to Travis who’s extremely chaotic and messy
long hair and refuses to cut it
Eventually he does dye his hair back to black in his 30s after feeling like he damaged it (thankfully he didn’t and won’t be balding like dilfte 😇)
Favourite band is Metallica
nerd when it comes to astrophysics and astronomy
only ex he’s in good terms with is nana who he dated for a while in HS before they decided to mutually split up (no he never dated Nicole I hate that ship)
MCD:
Loves wolves and tames them he treats them like puppies even though they can rip apart peoples flesh :3
is 7’2… …. ..
insanely beefed up because bro ran a village all by himself for 15 years and trained hard everyday also he canonically beat both laurence and garroth in a fight after the timeskip he’s a beast
ambidextrous and can use both arms efficiently when it comes to combat and fighting
Dilfte rarely shows his face like how Garroth used to wear his helmet back in s1? it’s like that
Extremely gentle and cautious with his wife and kids because of his size
has 7 kids including Dmitri and naoki (so 5 other kids) yeah he been busy
in s2 he’s in his early/mid 30s but in s3 of MCD and afterwards he’s in his early/mid 40s
Still madly in love with his wife and still in that honeymoon stage
Unlike Nicole he let Dmitri pick who he wanted to live with and Dmitri chose Dilfte and Nana
Wraps injured people up in his cape and carries them in it
physically very strong slightly above garroth (if we’re counting physical strength and not magic)
as intimidating as he looks he’s super sweet and wouldn’t hurt a fly
likes to go on picnics with his kids and wife
Extremely supportive of his kids and very progressive (keep in mind this is the medieval ages so it was rare)
finds lizards intimidating
bisexual but he doesn’t know what it means all he knows is women and men are both hot
Moved on “quickly” from Nicole because they already were unhappy and distant before breaking up, for months he thought they’d break up the next day so he spent that time wallowing and grieving their relationship until she broke the news to him and left him alone, then he moved on with Nana 2 months later. Which isn’t even quick if we’re being historically accurate.
limits drinking and refuses drinking around any kids, not that he’d go crazy and hurt anyone but still he’s extremely cautious.
Dilfte is probably the only dad who wants his kids to surpass him in the series 💀 he’s very proud of them no matter what though
long hair he puts it up usually (balding and short haired dilfte/dante ur dead to me.)
beard
Still tried to talk to Gene using the amulet even after the incident, Gene would always listen but never respond.
thanks for fuelling the hyperfixation

Spooky season fairytales (3)
We saw how the myth of the witch was reinvented with "Hansel and Gretel". Our look at "Snow White" led us to vampires. To complete our triad of Halloween monsters, we just need a werewolf - and you know exactly which fairytale will come next in my "Spooky season" series.
It is no surprise that "Little Red Riding Hood" gave plenty of material to horror-movie makers and creators of dark fantasy. It is after all one of the darkest fairytales of France (because yes, fairytale historians have traced back the story's roots to France, before it was passed on by French immigrants eastward to Germanic countries). And when it comes to movies about Little Red Riding Hood, there is ONE movie that must be talked about...
Tumblr media
"The Company of Wolves".
Who among fairytale fans hasn't heard of this brilliant, wonderful, poetic movie? It is one of those movies that truly manage to create a dark and haunting fairytale that FEELS fairytale-like. The plot is simple. It is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, in a "soft fairytale world" (things seem pretty normal, but there and there you have weird details, such as fur scarfs coming to life or eggs hatching jewels), and with a werewolf as the "big bad wolf". Or rather, the plot SEEMS simple - because this whole movie is framed as the dream of a modern-day girl, allowing for the story to unfold using dream logic and a heavy use of symbolism (perfect for a fairytale adaptation). Because this movie also explores the underlying motifs present in the original tale of sexuality, and the sexual maturation or blossoming of a young girl - this is due to the movie's original inspiration being the dark and feminists short stories of Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber". And because in the bigger Little Red Riding Hood tale, the movie intertwines folkloric European legends of werewolves, in all their disturbing glory.
This movie is truly great, and I cannot recommend it enough. It manages to be everything at once: a poetic dream, a magical fairytale, a disturbing horror piece, a sad tragedy... And it allies with greatness the creepy werewolf folklore of Europe with the fae charm of fairytales. Plus this 80s American fantasy movies goodness. And Angela friggin' Lansbury plays the grandmother! What else do you want? Even outside of a simple "Little Red Riding Hood" adaptation, this movie is one of the great "dark fairytale fantasies" of cinema.
This movie also calls for another piece, that is frequently put side by side with it (for... thematic reasons more than shared quality). I am talking of 2011's "Red Riding Hood".
Tumblr media
I am placing this movie here not because I want to praise it, but just because... Well it exists, and I must make a mention of it.
This movie is not... not good. It's not bad, not good. It is definitively not the best Red Riding Hood movie, and if you want to see a werewolf Little Red Riding Hood movie, go watch "The Company of Wolves", it is the best and will never be overshadowed. But this piece... It is conventional and expected. It takes all the plot directions expected with a "dark fantasy mature take" on Little Red Riding Hood - nothing surprising or inventive. It is a "village plagued by werewolf" story, mixed with a "wolf hunt" making it a dark fantasy "whoddunit" which is not even trying its best to engage the viewer in the mystery, making everybody a superficial candidate... And it is also a very conventional "girl stuck between two boys" romance-teenage-triangle.
It has everything that is needed to explore Little Red Riding Hood, and everything that was well-done in "The Company of Wolves"... But it is all treated in a very flat and superficial way, making it a sort of "empty" piece. Little Red Riding Hood, the original tale, is meant to be a tale about desire and female sexuality and seduction, and so making the main character a young girl stuck in an impossible romance outside of the "straight path" of marriage is an interesting take... But it goes nowhere. Here and there you have this little sparks of interesting ideas or clever concepts - the pig-and-sheep masquerade at the celebrations, the silver fingernails of the werewolf hunter, the werewolf speaking telepathically to the character of Red Riding Hood (Valerie)... But they're just little crumbs in a big bland soup.
And there's also the problem of this movie taking itself too seriously and not having any self-awareness - making it so, personally, I couldn't take it seriously in the beginning. If you watch it,you'll see what I mean - by taking itself too seriously during specific moments, or playing too straight some passages, the movie makes itself ridiculous. Overall, not a great movie AT ALL, and to watch only if you enjoy your bland, neutral, average "dark romance in the middle of werewolf hunts" piece. But it exists, so it must appear somewhere.
After this stale piece, let's move on to...
Tumblr media
Freeway, the 1996 movie
You'll frequently see it pop up in the lists of "dark fairytale movies" and "horror Little Red Riding Hood" adaptations - though to call this a "fairytale movie" is not a good description. As the tagline of the movie says, "Her life's no fairytale".
"Freeway" is an attempt at completely deconstructing the "Little Red Riding Hood" story by removing all form of magic or wonder from it, only leaving a disturbing, bleak, though still excentric and extravagant story. It is a dark comedy constantly oscillating between a violent and crude slapstick comedy, and a realistic horror movie. Featuring stars such as Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland (and with music by Danny Elfman, no less!), this little cult movie is still the story of a girl wearing a red piece of clothing going to see her grandmother's house and encountering on the way a predator... Except the little girl in red is here a semi-illiterate teenage delinquant with anger issues in a red leather jacket... She is on the run from child services after her prostitute of a mother and her junkie of a stepfather got arrested... The "huntsman" is a pair of inefficient, though well-meaning, cops... And the wolf is a sociopathic, necrophiliac, serial killer.
This makes it all sound as if the movie was a dreary full horror piece - but it is actually not. The main character is a very excentric, fiery, fierce, though not that bright, girl who constantly fights backs with sass everything and everyone, there is a dark and morbid humor all throughout the movie balancing very sad and uncomfortable moments, many of the characters are disturbingly realistic caricatures or stereotypes pushed to cartoonish levels, and overall it all feels more like a very violent and grand-guignolesque crime piece/road trip.
I want to mention another movie while talking about "Freeway" - the 2000s movie known as "Hard Candy". You will often find this movie on lists of Red Riding Hood adaptations - DO NOT GET FOOLED! "Hard Candy" is not a Little Red Riding Hood adaptation. It is a very bleak, very hard to watch, very creepy horror movie about mental and physical torture, and exploring the various aspects of human perversion, in a confined setting with a limited cast of characters - and yes, it does invoke a "Red Riding Hood" imagery... but just in the opening and advertising, and the movie has nothing to do with the fairytale. You can watch it if you want, but be ready, because it is one of those movies that mess up your stomach and your soul, and it is not for the faint of heart, as it is a VERY very bleak piece.
"Freeway" is also bleak, but in a more campy way (yes, you can have "campy bleak") typical of dark comedies. And "Freeway", unlike "Hard Candy", is an ACTUAL Little Red Riding Hood adaptation. Not only does it base its story and characters on the fairytale, making sure to have the key-moments of the original plot, and the character archetypes explored (the big bad wolf becoming a serial killer predator) or deconstructed (Little Red Riding Hood is still a dumb girl hunted by the wolf, but she fights back and is ready to kick ass and is used to the most vile sides of humanity), but it also fully embraces one part of the Little Red Riding Hood heritage. The cartoon adaptations of the first half of the 20th century - those little short cartoons that heavily explored the fairytale in a caricatural way, especially sexual (like the very famous Tex Avery short). Not only are there direct references to those cartoons in the movie, it also fully embraces the entire ambiance. The "slapstick" and "cartoonish" feels of this movie come right from there. Yes, they removed all the magic and wonders to have a sordid realistic tale, yes this is a borderline true crime story about a serial killer, and an ineffective police system, and what it is like growing up in poverty, drugs and prostitution... But it embraces the feel of the classic Looney Tunes/Tex Avery cartoon world, with extravagant caricatural characters, and an abundance of senseless unexpected violence that doesn't even feel real sometimes. And by making all that, the movie reinstills a form of "magic" in the tale - but this "cartoon" magic which is able to make disturbing moments about a human-looking monster trying to kill you look ridiculous and almost laughable as if it was some sort of clown performance.
Overall this movie is a really bizarre little piece that reflects a very specific type of cartoonishly-comedic-but-still-bleak-and-morbid small movies that tend to frequently pop up in the USA. You know the ones, these pieces that are about disturbed subjects or tragic characters, but are still made in such bizarre and unexpected ways they almost verge on surreal comedy - like Lynch's Wild at Heart (which itself was a "fairytale" take somehow, since it is technically speaking a Wizard of Oz movie) or the Harmony Korine movies.
And to close off this post, a special mention to a classic movie of the Halloween season...
Tumblr media
Trick 'r Treat, THE Halloween horror movie by Michael Dougherty (the man who later was behind THE new classic Christmas horror movie, "Krampus")
Trick 'r Treat was Dougherty's attempt at creating an iconic "mascot" for Halloween, in the person of Sam, the little creepy-costumed child/demon enforcing the rules of the old Celtic holiday... This dark, fun, morbid, perfectly Halloween-y movie, developed out of previous animated short-films, is actually an anthology piece collecting a handful of various stories... And the reason this movie appears on this list is because of the segment "Surprise Party", which is heavily referencing "Little Red Riding Hood". An unsecure young woman is invited by her outgoing friends at an Halloween party in the woods, and she picks up a Little Red Riding Hood costume, but as she is making her way throughout the city in a full Halloween parade, she realizes a strange man is following her... There is a twist, so I won't reveal much (beyond the fact it all implies vampires and werewolves stories), but the important thing is how the twist is delivered, and how the segment ends. A scene wich has marked the cinematic lore of the creature it depicts, and which has also influenced a LOT of people on the Internet during the end of the 2000s (for example, boosting up the "Sweet Dreams" cover of Marilyn Manson)

୨୧┇"What are 5 Things that make YOU Happy?" ᡣ𐭩ྀིྀ‧₊˚ ⋅🧘🏻‍♀️🌷
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For me personally (not ranked):
1. Sunny Afternoons/Golden Hour -> When I come home, I usually see the sun’s warm rays filtering through the trees outside my bedroom window, and it just fills me with so much love and admiration for nature and just the little things yk? (+ It’s so relaxing to see<3)
2. My Headphones & Music!! -> I own the Sony WH-1000XM3 (I totally recommend it, best type of headphones out there imo, the noise cancelling is heavenly and the headphones themselves are super comfortable<3), and listening to music like r&b, bossa nova, the wonder girls, kali uchis, asian hits from the 80's and sometimes just a chill instrumental is so wonderful<3
3. Reading Cozy Fantasy Books<3 -> I’m getting back into this genre and honestly, I should’ve done so sooner! All I can say for this one is that I love love love cozy fantasy, it’s such a comfort to me<3 I’m currently (slowly) reading two books that have been recommended a lot in this genre (both covers are so beautiful too!):
♡ “Can’t spell Treason without Tea” by Rebecca Thorne
♡ “Legends & Lattes” by Travis Baldree (a lot of people love this one!)
4. Nature Walks at the Park or a National Reserve -> (with good weather) This is honestly such a good way to improve your mood, reduce any anxiety or worries you may have as well as just helping you feel more relaxed and at ease.
5. Sleeping!!!!! -> Being able to just sleep peacefully without having to anticipate when your alarm is going to give you a mini heart attack or when you have to get up early is so magical to me for some reason. I can just sleep without a care in the world and wake up on my own terms.
🎀 notes: I wasn't able to fit this in but spending time with my family (and friends) is definitely up there of course! I love family movie nights and hanging out! There are so many things that make me happy and that I'm grateful for, I can't possibly fit them all in to one post..I think Tumblr would crash if I did lmao :3

eleven doesn't need a boyfriend to be happy. (an analysis)
some mlvns say bylers hate el but that just isn't correct at all?
the argument is near always that "wanting mlvn to break up means you hate el because she's happy with mike"
now, first of all: did you ever stop to think whether mike happy with el?
because maloobans also say things like "just because will likes mike doesn't mean mike has to like him back."
okay! with that same logic, just because el likes mike doesn't mean they have to stay together. their relationship has been rocky for a while. mike has trouble saying he loves el. if els feelings are unrequited in s5 (which i don't believe because i think she realised she doesn't love mike at the end of s4 and neither love each other anymore), it wouldn't make sense to keep them together.
second of all: is el the happiest she can be with mike? in s3, we see el finding herself with max who says "there's more to life than stupid boys." and el IS happy without mike, but i believe she was still in love with him in s3 and that's why they got back together. however, i think mike wanted to stay broken up at the end of s3 but was caught off guard by the love confession
i'm not even gonna get into the shitshow that was mlvn in s3 but y'all have seen it, so...
third: i'd assume most mlvn shippers are straight - therefore they're watching the relationship through a heteronormative lens, and thinking that el would need a boyfriend to be happy is a heteronormative idea.
some melvins say they want mlvn to get married and have kids, which is also a heteronormative idea.
i don't necessarily like eddie but in his wise words: "forced conformity is killing the kids."
so, what do we learn from this?
el needing to be in a relationship goes against the idea stranger things is trying to push. the idea that stranger things is saying over and over over again is that you don't need to be "normal" according to society.
for example:
dustin is disabled. will is gay. lucas is black. max is (likely) disabled in s5 if she wakes up. joyce is a single mom. robin is gay. jonathan is bullied. murray believes in alien conspiracies.
obviously, all of those things (except the alien conspiracy lol) are normal but in the 80's they weren't treated as such, or even now.
with characters like that, is ST really going to push a relationship like mlvn to be endgame? NO.
you don't need to be in a straight, unhappy relationship because it's what society wants you to do. you can be a freak, and just because a boy and a girl are friends, doesn't mean they need to be together.
also, "boy finds traumatized girl in woods, takes her under his wing, they fall in love, end of story."
does that sound like what's best for el? because when you think about it, el doesn't need mike and vice versa. she hasn't needed him since she moved in with the byers, because she has a loving family & friends. mike isn't the only important person in her life.
and having els arc to be diluted to being some nerds superhero girlfriend with very little personality of her own wouldn't be a good way to end s5 on.
having mike just be rude to will for no reason and magically figuring out all his troubles with saying i love you to his girlfriend (that can't possibly have anything to do with him being queer, can they?) and them being happy forever wouldn't be a good way to end s5 on.
what el needs is to be independent and learn what she likes without a boyfriend she's heavily codependent on. SHE DOESN'T NEED A RELATIONSHIP AND ISN'T READY FOR ONE.
the truth is, she doesn't know enough love and healthy relationships to be with mike while being independent and figuring out her own identity. i honestly believe even canon elmax would work out better than mlvn, even though i'm a single, independent el truther at heart.
hope you liked my little ramble!
i really hope we get platonic elmike in s5 cause we were ROBBED 😭

TIME TRAVEL?? AU
Or is it. CPOP. SPOP??? Idk BUT LOOK. LISTEN
MUSIC GROUP MADRIGALS.
Roles‼️‼️‼️ I tried my best to match them up, I think I did pretty good. Honestly a few of them changed, but not by much. Agustín and Félix essentially just stay writing music and being backbones to the group. I mean yeah, the other members write songs, but those two kind of. Put them together.
Alma: Manager, Producer
Felix: Instrumental, Writer
Agustín: Mixer, Instrumental, Producer
Julieta: Vocal, Center
Pepa: Sub Rapper, Sub Vocal, Main Dancer
Bruno: Main Rapper, Dancer
Isabela: Visual, Dancer
Dolores: Lead Vocal, Ad libs
Luisa: Vocal, Dancer
Camilo: Lead Rapper, Sub Vocal
Mirabel: Leader, Lead Dancer, Face, Vocal
Antonio: Maknae, Dancer, Sub/Backing Vocal/Ad libs
I spent an unhealthy amount of time on these photocards but. These would've likely been from their first album release, at least the one with Antonio in it.
Tumblr media
As for names. Y’all know I suck at those so. My unoriginal slf could only come up with this. Honestly it’s an improvement considering my last tho 💀
Miracle Beat (Styled M1R4CLE BE4T) There's a 1, for Mirabel, the leader, and then then two 4's because there are 9 total members.
Fandom Name: Rhythmatics. Maybe.
Sub Groups. Basically just smaller groups of the main band (like MiSaMo from TWICE)
Julieta, Pepa, Isabela, Dolores, Luisa, Mirabel- Mad Girls (Styled MAD☆GRLS). Play on "Madrigals".
Bruno, Camilo, Antonio: Vibe (Styled VI3E). Their music is played in, and the 3 is for how many members.
AS FOR MUSIC. Thinking movie ost, but similar to AKMU as well. Maybe a bit of middle era Twice. As for concept. I wanna say Time/Time Travel. Like the numbers represent an era. Essentially, the concept is they all time travelled from a different decade and formed a music group in order to cover for their “strange” behavior (whether it’s literal or not is up for debate). I wanna say this takes place in modern times, cause Antonio’s is 90’s based, so it’s at least up to 2010.
Formation would look. Like this <33
Tumblr media
An idea was the band started in, idk, the late, 70s, early 80s?? So it roughly takes place in the early 2000s. But then some wacky time travel and space-time stuff happened. So now Alma, Agustín and Félix are kinda just in the 2000s. Julieta is from the '10s, Pepa is from the '20s, and Bruno is from the '30s. Odd thing us, they're still triplets, and Alma's still their mother. She rolls with it. Yes, they do still fet married to Agustín and Félix.
Then there's the grandchildren. Alma had found that once they hit 5, they kind of just were set in a perpetual time or decade, so when asked when they were born, their month and date would be the same, but the year changed. So like Mirabel would say something like "March 6th, 1975", because each Madrigal is set at the beginning of the decade.
If there is magic (which there might be, idk) their rooms would look different. It'd be very similar to the decade their from. Like Luisa's room would look like a 60s teenage girls room, or Antonio's would look like a little boy's room from the 90s.
WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT. DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE???
Tumblr media
Idk. Im crazy.

The Mosley Review: Lisa Frankenstein
Tumblr media
Often the question the same question comes up in cinema. Why don't we have any more romantic comedies? Where are the quirkie coming of age films that tackle the age old themes of teen life struggles, social constructs within the popularity of each group or just the classic build up to a date to prom? Where are those films?! Well, here's a film that illustrates why that film genre has been buried and is slowing being unearthed. Like many of you, I enjoy a darker and off beat rom com from time to time and how it reflects the current youth lifestyle. Unfortunately, most of today's youth is online instead of in the real world. It was refreshing for this film to strip away modern tech and go back to the often romanticized era of the 80's and fully embrace the sorely missed awkward teen trope and macabre tone of early Tim Burton films. This film excels in that many times when it focuses on that vary grove it tries to stay in. Where it falters is in its weird pacing issues and lack of personal identity. It ultimately had nothing to say that I haven't heard already and it rushed its way through the magical nature of the heartfelt story that exists inbetween the seams.
Tumblr media
Kathryn Newton was fun as the shy and distant teen Lisa Swallows. What I liked in the beginning was her innocence and sort of quiet demeanor in the way she would interact with people in her life. For a few moments she had a mystery to her that gave her that needed silent edge. She was a teen of very little words and when she finally finds her confidence, that's when the character really comes to life. I wish we could've played with her psychological decent and how she copes with things. Liza Soberano was really perky and loving as her lively sister step sister, Taffy. I liked their dynamic and how Taffy is always lifting up Lisa from her more secluded nature and gets her to come out of her shell more. The chemistry between them was really good and made for a lighter version of an almost "Heather's" situation. Joe Chrest was good and essentially a little more attentive version of his character from Stranger Things, Ted Wheeler. Carla Gugino was fantastic as always and as Lisa's stepmother Janet Swallows, she was very much the wicked stepmother from Cinderella. Now the real standout of the film and the most charming character was Cole Sprouse as The Creature. His beautifully tragic story was told expertly in the opening credits and he was a joy to watch once he comes back to life. The physical comedy and sometimes micro expressions he made were brilliantly executed and I loved every second he was on screen. The chemistry between him and Lisa was the heart of the film and even though not a word is spoken from him, his intentions are clear. The two of them together bring out the Edward Scissorhands love story aspect of the film and it felt like a gothic fever dream at times.
Tumblr media
The score by Isabella Summers was good and serviceable, but I wish she leaned more into the horror a bit more which was also a problem with this film. For the majority of the film, I felt as if the film was really living its namesake. It was a greatest hits collection of all the best parts of the 80's horror comedies and early Tim Burton love stories that had so much heart, but this film failed many times to stay focused on those tropes. Where it was succeeding was when it would go down the implausible and fantastical fun of the love story, but it makes sharp turns away from it as things started to get more serious. The best way I could describe my feelings here is if you just look at the first trailer for this film. You get that exact macabre and comedic horror feel the film wanted to be. You get that, but it feels more watered down. Maybe if the film just focused on her coming out her shell and got rid of the stepsister and the other goth girl bully in the film, then maybe this would've been what that trailer promised. Also, I don't know if it was the theater I was in, but the sound mixing in this film was atrocious in the first 20 minutes of the film. The dialogue and score was turned down so low that I had to really focus on what was being said and I almost lost a god chunk of the story. Overall, this was a gothic rom com that had potential to be a new standout among the other same type of films we get each year, but I think it was bogged down by too many characters and the lack of expertise in the field. It could've been so much more. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Tumblr media
→ hi friends! this is a little segment i do every tuesday (reviewsday get it, aren't i funny, pls tell me how funny i am) where i read and review two-three fics. as a content creator, i know how big of a role other creators play in your growth, therefore, i want to do my part in making sure everyone gets the recognition they deserve! so with that being said, please check out the amazing fics listed below. make sure to like, reblog, and leave feedback! ♡ #reviewsday #kikirecs
Tumblr media
pina coladas (pt 1 + pt 2) - @han-nah-banana (jjk x reader | established relationship, smut, angst, fluff)
ok so um... the attention to detail is off the charts! like when the little things you mention about jungkook and oc, like them eating healthy foods, only having sex in the missionary position, etc. tells us so much about them and the status of their relationship. like you showed us that they were stuck in a boring, mundane relationship through little hints and i really love that. ALSO POV SHIFT IN PART ONE WAS SO GOOD! like the way their thoughts mirrored one another was such good storytelling ugh!!! also think you picked a great setting for this type of story, the 80s. it makes everything feel so real, like the sexual repression oof! so glad they got to bang it out in the sexiest way in pt 2! really really good for your first fanfic like WOW! loved it!
Tumblr media
i can do better - @here4btsfics (pjm x reader | fwb, smut)
summary: your boyfriend of two years just dumped you and you’re angry and sad. so get hammered with your coworker at his place and eat bad food and watch trash tv which leads to some interesting conversations.
bro all you did is enforce my delusions that irl men cannot compete bc they are not park jimin. men should apologize for not being park jimin at this point. even kim taehyung... anywho lmao. DUDE and then oc listing all the things perfect about jimin. she is just like me fr!!! also like this is kind of how i picture jimin in real life ngl. THAT MAN IS A COCKY CONFIDENT DOM I WILL ARGUE THIS SHIT UNTIL IM BLUE IN THE FACE GTFO! and miss oc... no strings attached girl??? A WHOLE BLUFF. honestly, this entire fic is one of my daydreams when im in a lecture and i fucking loved every second of it bby! so so good. so glad you decided to start writing again, extremely proud of you.
Tumblr media
darksided - @eoieopda (myg x reader | established relationship, smut)
summary: min yoongi adored you. he'd simply never hurt you.
i saw someone post about smut where the characters are so grossly in love is their fav genre. this is exactly that. this fic encompasses everything i love in fanfic. i felt like a fly on the wall, being dropped into the middle of the situation where i figure out who the characters are through their actions, words, etc. you do that so perfectly here. like the way i know everything i need to know about min yoongi through the FUCKING setting?? naur this is s tier writing right here. also there's just something you do with words thats v magical. can't put my finger on exactly what it is but here is an example:
"a quick survey of the landscape before you indicated that this was a criminal oversimplification."
LIKE IDK JUST SOMETHING ABOUT HOW YOU STRUCTURE SENTENCES IS GENIUS! like cannot even begin to describe how good this was. would die for this couple honestly. the smut had me clenching too OOF. so cool to see what you've accomplished on this platform in such a short period of time! it's so so deserved and i can't wait to see where you go from here. don't know how you can even get better than this like ur already at the moon um!!! but god it's only going to get better from here. like next thing u know u'll be a famous writer fr. wishing you nothing but the fucking best!!!!

hi! i know that i'm fated to read your every work despite not knowing the media half the time. this time i would like to finally be one step ahead. so uhh. where do i read orv? do i go for the webtoon or the novel? to clarify, i did try to search, but got confused by reddit. also i am going to watch trigun. i've been eyeing animorphs too but the 54 (?) books are making me go hmm. thank you for existing you're pretty great. you're like the spiderman of writing but instead you got asbestos rat'd.
THIS ASK IS INSANE. WE'RE REFERENCING MY LORE NOW?
But thank you, you're insane. People ask why I have stupid high standards for the fics i post on AO3 and it is because there are people like you who will just read whatever regardless of whether or not it's good. I have a responsibility.
This ask also made me wonder if I have good taste. Because every time somebody says this my first reaction is "oh god and the source materials aren't even good". I read a lot of trashy stuff (but, like, define trashy), and I consume too many bad things to be able to say I have discerning taste. If I enjoy something I almost never call it bad, because things were made to be enjoyed and I enjoyed them then they had value in at least one aspect. If you were to ask me if my favorite TV show of all time the Incredible Hulk 1974 was actually, unironically, good, then I'd break into a cold sweat. Is somebody bad because it's camp? Is something bad only if it's unintentional camp?
Regardless, I never write fic for something that isn't only like 80% good - there's a sweet spot of 'good enough for me to obsess over' and 'bad enough that I'm rewriting it in my head'. It's rare I write for anything I find completely good. Which is why I feel bad when people say that they're reading this thing I'm writing fic for jalksdf there's better things out there I SWEAR.
ORV is in the sweet spot of "this isn't high literature" and "this has given me brain worms". Definitely for sure start with the webtoon - the webnovel is clunkily translated, you don't read it for the writing at all, and it is also a literal million words. Don't read the webnovel unless you're like "I'm going insane and I need more of this". It starts off kind of slow ("This is a well executed very banal isekai") and you're like a frog in the pot of it slowly going more insane until you're a ways in and you are in a tangle of ridiculously complicated gambits and convoluted storytelling. There is literally no other way to describe it than the Homestuck of webnovels. If you're completely unfamiliar with isekai that's fine, but as a warning - ORV being your first webtoon/webnovel isekai is like your first shoujo manga being Ouran High Schol Host Club, or your first magical girl show being Madoka, or your first mecha anime to be Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's one of the best works in its genre but it's supposed to be viewed in context of the genre. Or maybe it's more like if Homura starred in Evangelion, which was Ouran. I'm just saying words.
Animorphs is kind of like Mother 3 in which everybody who has ever read/played it said that it changed them as a person, it changed their relationship with media and storytelling forever, if you read/play it you will be born again from the world's egg, etc. Works that genuinely become part of your personality. I also never recommend it to people because it is incredibly hit or miss. I remember using a spreadsheet of just "what books are skippable or not" because some of them are incredibly weird and some of them are incredibly weird in the bad way. The only Animorphs fic I've ever written is from 2019 so it's also not that great. Each book only takes an hour to read and the pdfs are free online, so it's incredibly accessible in terms of the reading experience, but it's kinda the Animorphs gestalt that changes you forever and not the individual books. I try not to recommend stuff that's like 25% bad.
Watch Trigun if you like what Trigun is - it's not going to deliver on something it's not. Also watch 98 first. Watch Stampede/read Trimax if you want more Trigun. The Trigun fic is based off Stampede but refer to my "I only write fic for smth that's 80% good and not 100% good" statement.
Also I think being bit by an asbestos rat just means that I probably have mold and drywall in my lungs, which would explain a lot about this blog. Thanks for the ask I love it.
#you have to feel kind of guilty saying “this is the homestuck of webnovels” and reccomending it with a straight face#and like i wouldn't outright reccomend it#it has plenty of problems. but also you dont care about the problems much ya know.#my asks#my writing#it is genuinely so funny that Animorphs and M3 girlies are Like That#sir this is a children's novel where a teenager vomits crocodiles#and it's not as good when you just hear people describe it like “oh read animorphs its sooo fucked up and edgy and people die”#like. yes its good because its fucked up. but also#the humor and levity and silliness is important and makes the fuckery meaningful#i think mostly it's the fact that animorphs will present to you some very shallow stuff and then ask you to engage with it like its real#its not realism or grittiness or edge#it just presents you with Very Basic Children's SciFi and goes#these are real children. all life is real sentient life.#yes the CIA really did do that.#when the enemy is killed the enemy is dead. do you understand.#thats what makes it a rly good childrens novel but also what makes it so disturbing as an adult#whose been asked to fictionalize suffering countless times in scifi#and on the tv. and in the news. and from each other.#and when we're presented with normal fictional suffering and the narrative is like No - Look At This#it changes how you engage with scifi and media in general#there's a lot of 'Jake' characters out there. but you can't look at them the same way.#did not expect the tag essay to be about animorphs this time.

Propaganda:
Morrigan: She is a witch who uses a lot of dark magic, as well as some magic that many would apparently consider blood magic.
Nadja: She is a vampire, and the ghost of her human self lives in a doll. There is an image of her from the 80’s that is shown in the intro that imply that she (and her husband) may have been part of the goth scene at that time, but this is never confirmed, and the picture is a bit unclear, though it would match up with what we know of her.

Swordswoman Showdown Round 1 Part 2
Alexandra Jennings (The Medoran Chronicles) vs Lady Oscar Fracois de Jarjayes (Rose of Versailles)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Better here in a "preferred character" sense, not "who would win in a fight")
Propaganda below cut
Alexandra Jennings
Is the true owner of a magic blue sword that she can summon or dismiss at will, and shrink or grow at will. It also bursts into flames upon contact with her in later books. Goes through so much swordfighting training so she can keep pace with the meyarins in a fight (elf like people-long lives, faster, stronger, better senses than humans). Needs her sword skills to fight the genocidal maniac trying to wipe out or enslave humanity; She's so cool! Her friends are so cool! She trains in a sentient library on occasion!
Lady Oscar
She is the commander of the royal guard of the Versailles Palace, also the bodyguard of the Queen Marie Antoniette, she has a thin sword and excels with it to the point that one of the first plot points is how she can defeat any man while also embracing being a woman; I love her and she gets all the ladies at court flustered, very gnc character she is described both as handsome and beautiful and she is so cool and techaes another girl to fight with swords and she cucks the monarchy when discivering the inequality outside the palace :v idk i just think she is iconic
I'll argue that Lady Oscar is *the* pioneer for sword women in shoujo anime, she walked so Utena could run, and inspired a bunch of other anime outside the demographic, like Beserk. TLDR Lady Oscar is one of the best female leads with a sword; She's hot. I feel like the 70's-80's era of anime is often neglected. Swords. I'll be surprised if no one else nominates Rose of Versailles.
If you think Utena is swordy, this woman INSPIRED her creation. She’s badass and better than everyone at the sword; Everyone is in love with her. And I mean EVERYONE. Also, Rococo aesthetic and gorgeous artwork, AND she’s a big BIG deal in early shoujo and still is.
a soldier for france + swordfights often; "Despite being raised as if she were a boy and dressing in males' clothes, Oscar is open about being female. Even as she embraces her femininity, she uses her male position to gain freedoms that she could never have as a lady of the court."
