Beltane is mentioned in the earliest Irish literature and is associated with important events in Irish mythology. Also known as Cétshamhain ('first of summer'), it marked the beginning of summer & was when cattle were driven out to the summer pastures. Rituals were performed to protect cattle, people & crops, and to encourage growth. (Today, Witches who observe the Wheel of the Year celebrate Beltane as the height of Spring.)
Special bonfires were kindled, whose flames, smoke & ashes were deemed to have protective powers. The people and their cattle would walk around or between bonfires & sometimes leap over the flames or embers. All household fires would be doused & then re-lit from the Beltane bonfire.
These gatherings would be accompanied by a feast, and some of the food and drink would be offered to the aos sí. Doors, windows, byres and livestock would be decorated with yellow May flowers, perhaps because they evoked fire.
In parts of Ireland, people would make a May Bush: typically a thorn bush or branch decorated with flowers, ribbons, bright shells & rushlights. Holy wells were also visited, while Beltane dew was thought to bring beauty & maintain youthfulness.
• The aos sí (often referred to as spirits or fairies) were thought to be especially active at Beltane. Like Samhain, which lies directly opposite from Beltane on the Wheel of the Year, this was seen as a time when the veil between worlds was at its thinnest. At Samhain the veil between the worlds of the living & the dead is thin enough that we can connect & convene with our beloved dead, here at Beltane it’s the veil between the human world, and the world of faeries & nature spirits that has grown thin. Offerings would be left at the ancient faerie forts, the wells and in other sacred places in an effort to appease these nature spirits to ensure a successful growing season.
Some believe this is when The Goddess is now the Mother & the God is seen as the Green Man or the wild stag. It celebrates the symbolic union, mating or marriage of the Goddess & God & heralds in the coming summer months. It represents life rather than Samhain on the opposite side of the Wheel of the Year.
Other Celebrations:
• Rosealia- May 23rd
Rosalia or Rosaria was a festival of roses celebrated on various dates, primarily in May, but scattered through mid-July. The observance is sometimes called a rosatio ("rose-adornment") or the dies rosationis, "day of rose-adornment," & could be celebrated also with violets. As a commemoration of the dead, the rosatio developed from the custom of placing flowers at burial sites. It was among the extensive private religious practices by means of which the Romans cared for their dead, reflecting the value placed on tradition (mos maiorum, "the way of the ancestors"), family lineage & memorials ranging from simple inscriptions to grand public works. Several dates on the Roman calendar were set aside as public holidays or memorial days devoted to the dead.
Roses had funerary significance in Greece, but were particularly associated with death & entombment among the Romans. In Greece, roses appear on funerary steles  & in epitaphs most often of girls. Flowers were traditional symbols of rejuvenation, rebirth &memory, with the red & purple of roses & violets felt to evoke the color of blood as a form of propitiation

hello, mechanisms enjoyer. who is your favourite mechanism. what is your favourite album. what is your favourite song. what is your favourite photo. do you have a favourite live recording.
I have already been asked lol but im happy to answer again!
I dont have a favourite mech but here’s some random facts. I was obsessed with ts when I first saw them and I spent like four months drawing nothing but it. I got into the mechs through Tma and jonny and he is such a bastard I love him (looking back on my dash you’ll see the dehumanisation of jonny in art I blog). The only mech ive cosplayed is raph in both her more humanly form and her more birdy form. Again ashes was someone I was already familiar with because of frank being in Tma (same with Jess and Jonny) and id heard about Tim through rqg mentions etc. I wish I had more to say about ivy, nastya, Marius, Brian etc but tbh I just dont. I love them but dont know much about them outside of the mechs and never felt quite so drawn to them.
My favourite album again isnt just one. Id say of the main studio albums its a tossup between tbi and udad. Again I love them all but I listen to those the most. Ttbt 1&2 are also constantly playing (lost in the cosmos was my top song in my wrapped) and I listen to them probably the same amount. Also Frankenstein oml I love you mwah im so normal about it and im totally not an English nerd studying classic literature at college😅😅😅.
I feel like favourite song kinda falls into the same vein as the last question. While i cant actually pick my top 5 (in my wrapped) were lost in the cosmos, Loki, ties that bind, underworld blues and sirens so think of that what you will. I said this last time but I have a chronically short attention span so often ttbt songs are the best way to get my fix without having to listen to a whole album. Im sorry mechs purists but most of the time i dont listen in order cause who can be asked with that.
I dont actually have a favourite photo but I’ll add a bunch of my widgets from my phone because ofc I had to make my Home Screen mech based. (Art by @reegis)
In regards to live performances I guess dttm. Its the first live performance I watched thats actually mechs. I love lashings a “totally normal amount” but considering thats more Carmilla era idk if it counts. Either way its those two and I know some of yall are doing amazing work cleaning up the audio and getting transcripts made so send them my way if you want id love to see them.

Hel Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Hel?
Often referred to as a “goddess of death”, Hel is actually the ruler who presides over the dead. Her domain is the underworld, also called Hel (or Helheim). She is often described in text as cruel or cold, not uncommon for a deity that deals with death. This may not represent the experience that those who work with Hel have had, please keep in mind that deities are not solely their mythology.
Parents and Siblings
Loki (father)
Angrboda (mother)
Fenrir (brother)
Jörmungand (brother)
Sleipnir (brother)
Lovers or Partners
N/A
Children
N/A
Epithets
While modern pagans may have epithets for her, there is no historical Epithet for Hel that I have found.
Notes
The Aesir were told that Loki’s three children would cause destruction one day. To combat this, Odin threw Hel into Helheim where she crowned herself queen and made it into her realm.
Her appearance is said to be that of a woman who looks half human and half blue like a corpse.
Some think that Helheim, the underworld, came first and Hel as a goddess became a later development or personification of said place.
It’s important to note that Helheim is not a place of punishment or torture—but that doesn’t mean it’s particularly pleasant.
Hel’s most popular story is The Death of Baldr, in which she refuses to allow Baldr to leave Hel unless every last creature on earth weeps for him. Every being except one giantess (who people believe to be Loki in disguise) cried, but since the terms were not fully met, Baldr remained in Hel.
Her name means “hidden”, referencing those who are dead and invisible to the living.
Many scholars believe that the deity Hel is a creation of the Christian mythographer, Snorri Sturluson.
Since she is the daughter of Loki (a half-giant) and Angrboda (a giantess), Hel is also probably a giantess or jötunn.
Modern Deity Work
Since there is no evidence of a pre-Christian Goddess Hel of the dead, there are no true historical offerings or correspondences that I can write here. Everything in the section will be based either on Hel’s myths or resourced from posts about her from her followers and devotees.
Correspondences
Since there is no historical evidence of a cult or worship for Hel, these correspondences come from her myths and from posts from her followers. These are only some possible correspondences, if you feel that there are others then feel free to add them in a comment or reblog!

Yak Carpgills
A stoat, born in an ordinary family of fisherbeasts, since his cubhood unwilling to change his coat from winter white to summer brown. He angered Firstmarten, he defeated Sunken Dread, he can breathe underwater and was awarded with a constellation of his own - this is all Yak Carpgills - the patron saint of fisher-folk and those mustelids whose life and activities are connected with water.
Tumblr media
Do you know why in Bluedawning the dawns are blue?
Like a petal of a forget-me-not flower, falling on an emerald leaf, Vazhyan Lake sparkles in its green framing. At dawn a blue mist rises from azure waters, and the sun rises above this eye of the forest, piercing the clouds of mist with its cool rays. As if shrouded in a blue shawl, the Sun rises higher and higher, and then throws it down onto the green covering.
Few of the beasts now remember that the beautiful blue haze over the lake is the blood of  Sunken Dread, still evaporating from the surface of its waters.
There once lived a saber-tooth with a greedy heart. She fooled and robbed many animals for gold. And in the end, she paid for it. They poisoned her food with sleeping herbs, tied her up and threw her into the Vazhyan Lake.
The saber-toothed cat drowned, but she could not get to the Underworld, as she was supposed to. Her body fell into the thick silt and got stuck in it. Even her soul was held back by this thick underwater tar. Her spirit could not go to the Skynesting, and it remained with her bones.
Thanks to her iron will and the desire to survive at all costs, her soul made the dead body move again, although it took many years to try. In time, the body grew flesh, and Bluedawning gained a  monster named Sunken Dread, devouring anything it could get its fangs on.
Young Yaxi never liked changing his coat from winter to summer, and wanted to be of a shiny white color all his life. It never happened, and he complained and whined to Firstmarten, and scolded her, and destroyed her idols, trying to get her attention. One day, his wish came true. One winter, Yak stood before Firstmarten's idol and gazed at her dangling beady eyes. He always began his desecration with those. Yaxi rushed at the beads, but suddenly a sheaf of ash burst from behind the wooden head and engulfed the stoat's head and neck. "Now you will have the same coat in both summer and winter," a voice rang in his ears. So Yaxi remained ugly - white with a black head and neck. And he never shed his coat again. In summer all prey saw him from a mile away. In winter it was a little easier,  when he could pretend to be a black twig sticking out of snow. But since then, his life has gone awry.
Tumblr media
So he decided to make amends to the Skynesting. He went to search for a heroic deed to perform, but he didn't have to go far. There was a monster swimming right in Vazhyan Lake that was hunting the locals. It took a lot of strength, intelligence and time to figure out how to defeat the saber-toothed creature. And he did it. The finally dead Dread sank to the bottom, and now nothing prevented it from going to the afterlife. As a reward, the ermine took away Sunken Dread's eyes, which shrank many times and revealed an amazing magic: the one who carries them can  breathe underwater. It is believed that this is because they retain a part of the iron will of the saber-tooth. Its flesh scattered in myriad pieces, and Vazhyan absorbed its blue color forever.
The fish reappeared in Vazhyan Lake, and the beasts of the water began fishing again. Yaxi, who was named Yak Carpgills after his feat, helped them for the rest of his life and protected the lake. He also invented many different tackles and baits to make fishing easier.
He never changed his coat like an ordinary ermine, but all his life he apologized to the FirstMarten and made idols for her. Because of his coloring, Yak was not good at hunting, and this played a significant role in his choice of fishing as a way of living.

Muzan 1
Summary: Regrets are for lamentable humans who have nothing else to fill up their lives. There is nothing for Muzan to regret. And yet, you, his once doctor, was still here, refusing to impart on him the knowledge needed to make himself perfect.
(I have read the entirety of demon slayer a long while back. I was always interested in having the Reader be Muzan’s doctor. You know, the one that started this whole tragedy.)
Tumblr media
Rarely do you ever speak, but even more so does Muzan ever listen. When has your apparition appeared behind him? Was it a year after he deemed your attempts to heal him a failure? Or was it ten or a hundred? The years all start to blend together the farther he goes back in his memory, but your shadow was cast over him for as long as his blood became his weapon as well as his vice.
The existence of ghosts was a laughable concept to him, once upon a time. They weren’t as real as the illness that refused to leave his body be, but Muzan can see your eyes reflecting back at him from the burnt flask of another failed attempt to conquer the sun.
Muzan had a nightmare, once, a few years after the euphoria of his immortality was replaced with fear for the sun.
Where he can finally face the hated sun with his newly crafted self, only for the earth to break apart and swallow him. He clung to the ledge, dug his fingers into the bedrock because he refused to give into the fate the world always tries to press on him. Sharp stone cut into his palm and red spider lilies bloomed forth as though they were seeds. They trailed down, dripped into the cavernous maw with flames and ash waiting at the bottom, and when he looked up, his face was tickled by the elusive blue spider lilies.
He didn’t think. He reached out and grabbed, not caring if it sealed his fate into the underworld. But hands grasped his neck in a bruising vice. Nails dug into his skin and a voice, professional and familiar, whispered over the shell of his ear, “You and I will share in failure. I’ll make sure of it.”
He attacked the innkeeper that heard his night struggles. He created his first demon. A demon that did not survive the sun. Long after Muzan hid away from the rays, your figure lingered at the edge of his vision. You did not disappear, even now as he threw away the useless flask into the trash.
“It is a beautiful flower,” you spoke, clear and crisp in his ear as though you were only a few inches away despite you being on the other side of the room, “the blue spider lily. No other flower can ever replace it.”
The beaker in Muzan’s hand shattered, but the glass did nothing to his skin. He was not in a dream.
“Failure after failure, that’s how it will be,” Muzan knows he can’t make you speak, but he also knows he can’t make you shut up. The shards he threw at you simply passed through, “in that search of yours.”
Until the day comes where you finally leave, Muzan knows he won’t escape this prophecy of yours.

Here´s a question i been wondering. Does Atreus get to tell Calliope about his mother? And if yes, what does she think about Laufey the Just.
Yes, he does tell Calliope a bit about Laufey! Within the story, Calliope has already formed a sort of bond/attachment with Atreus at this point, so hearing about his mother doesn't feel as conflicting as it might've been if she first heard of Faye upon learning that Kratos had another family away from Greece. Then Faye would probably feel more like a stranger, someone who stole away Calliope's father, y'know?
In fact, I think I'll show you the scene from my fic! It's early on in the story, with Atreus and Calliope having escaped the Underworld for the first time. They're now heading to Athens, and Calliope's dealing with some nightmares (she was crying earlier in this scene). She's also in the "Father abandoned and forgot about me" grieving stage of her feels journey ^^;; You can find it below the cut, if you're alright with spoilers! XDD
___
“Atreus?” she said after a moment. “D-did he ever tell y-you ab-about me?”
A pause. “No,” Atreus replied. There was something tight in his tone that Calliope didn’t quite like. “He hardly told me about his past. The things he did, and all that. He never told me about you, or your mother.”
“My m-mother is Ly-Lysandra,” Calliope offered.
“Lysandra,” Atreus repeated. He gave her a very gentle squeeze. “I’ll remember that.”
Calliope squeezed him back, as much as her trembling arms were able to manage. “Wh-what is your mother’s name?”
“Laufey.” She heard the smile in his voice. “But you can call her Faye.”
“Does she look like you?”
“She did. She mostly raised me when I was young, since Kratos went hunting a lot. She used to carry around an axe.”
“An axe?” Calliope repeated, startled. “Really?”
“Really. It has ice powers. And if you throw it far, you can call it back, and it’ll come flying back to your hand.”
“A flying axe?” Calliope could hardly believe it. But Atreus had magic arrows that turned different colours when he fired them. And he could turn into animals. What other surprises did he have up his sleeve?
“She also sang to me when I was sick,” Atreus went on. “I’ll sing one of her songs for you, if you want. To help you sleep.”
Calliope sniffled and snuggled closer to his side. “Okay.”
Atreus’ low voice soon filled the room, sweet and melancholic.
(He sings Laufey's song here, from the GoW OST, Ashes)
That night, Calliope dreamed of a tall woman with fair hair and blue eyes. With her mighty axe, the woman chopped up all the bad dreams and tossed them away, then pranced toward the tall mountains in the distance, disappearing into the light.
___
(The following day; Calliope looks through Atreus' journal with his travel entries.)
There was another portrait on the next page. Calliope took in the woman’s braided hair and bright eyes, the mischievous touch to her smile. She looked at Atreus, then at the portrait. “Is this Laufey?”
Atreus nodded. “That’s her. From what I could remember, at least.”
“I like her face. She looks like you.”
Atreus ducked his head, but not before Calliope spotted his shy smile. As she turned to the next page, Atreus asked, “Did Lysandra look like you?”
Calliope hesitated. “I think so. That’s what all the women said.” She tried to bring her mother’s face to mind, but her memory was blurred at the edges. Long, dark hair. A blue tainia and peplos. If only Calliope could draw! Putting it down on paper would surely help her memory become clearer.

Oréndo, or Death on Naboo
A little bit about death and funerary writes on Naboo to uh, celebrate Ahsoka’s being at Padmé’s funeral absolutely destroying me.
Details below the cut for all the talk of death.
Tumblr media
Standard funerary practice on Naboo has the dead placed in a myoo so orédsec, a funerary boat, and sent into the nearest ocean (at least in coastal locations, though some will travel for the rites) or river. However, it is not encouraged to actually let the person’s body go down, for one because it won’t go down and stay down without weighting, and because there are underwater cities in some places, and because you don’t actually want your family’s remains to be... fish food.
Different parts of Naboo hold different customs: some believe that people were, in fact, just... sent off to the bottom of the sea. Others hold that they were cremated in their boat through projectile weapons. Yet others say the boat element is a later introduction and historical practice was just scattering ashes of the dead, who were cremated on land, into the sea. Today it’s common practice for myook so orédsec to come equipped with the sort of technology a crematorium would have so there’s no need for weapons of any kind.
The idea of going into the water is a figurative idea just as much as a practical one. For one’s ashes to go into the water makes you a part of Naboo and its ecology, sort of, settling into the ground underwater and also sort of part of the water cycle. At the same time, it links into the idea of Shomshe, or Naboo’s equivalent of an Underworld. It’s not comparable to the idea of either hell or heaven, but simply a place everyone goes upon dying, and is equivalent to both the deep sea, and deep space, which are both one.
Enshadu is the Néboo God that presides over the dead, and she is also seen as the only God who welcomes one and all, regardless of your acts in your life, from the best people to the very worst. However, she is ultimately a metaphor for death: her embrace is always waiting, no matter what you’ve done in life. Theoretically, this bit of myth is supposed to be an encouragement to do good things with the life you have been given in the knowledge that it will someday end, and that death is natural and not to be mourned or feared. In practice... not so much.
Orédsec or funerals are always held at night, and may be delayed by the family if it’s a no-moon night. Stormy or cloudy nights are also considered bad luck, but rain and lightning are good signs.
Enshadu’s colours are common to wear: black, silvers, purples, deep blues, or extremely pale blues, and the other colours of the sea and the moon upon the sea. Red, orange, gold, or materials that emit warm light (like plasma stones) are super inappropriate, as they are considered to cancel the moon’s cold light. Materials that reflect light are considered appropriate, whereas materials that do not, like velvets and matte metals are considered highly inappropriate.
Music is deeply inappropriate, with the exception of mourning songs, hosse. Water is never offered, though in some regions food is.
Depending on the season, insârék (moonflowers), torârék (frostflowers), tave cooreebek (white sweetbriar), reesek so Nirerd (Nirerd snows), tave sérârék (white wreathblooms), tave simbavek (white silkpetals), gasoonek (littleswords), achidsek (waterbowls) or ritajek (snowdrops), among some other white or silver flowers are placed around to absorb the blessing light of the moon and take those blessings with them into the darkness of Shomshe.
Some relevant vocabulary:
talit: to die
ondorét: to pass away, or a common euphemism for death that’s become part of regular speech now
oréndo: death
orédsec: funeral
myoo so orédsec: funeral boat
hosoot: to mourn
cindeek so hosoochis: mourning beads, as worn by Queen Apaillana at Padmé’s funeral
mogek: ashes
Shomshe: the Underworld, the Deep, the place people go after they die
Insân: the path the dead follow to Shomshe, typically equated with the light of the moon on the water, also called Yan so Enshadu, or Enshadu’s Path

hello, mechanisms enjoyer. who is your favourite mechanism. what is your favourite album. what is your favourite song. what is your favourite photo. do you have a favourite live recording.
Hello!! I'm so excited for an ask! My apologies for how long it took to answer, I was a bit under the weather.
My favorite mechanism (its very difficult to choose just one) is Jonny! I also have a deep love of them all, but a few more that catch my eye tend to be Gunpowder Tim, Ashes, and Ivy!
So far my favorite album has been The Bifrost Incident (with Once Upon A Time In Space following closely behind!)
I will be completely honest, my favourite song changes purely on which mechanism/oc of mine is currently my favourite, or my mood. At the moment, my favourite ones are 'Loki', 'Frankenstein', 'Peacemaker' and 'Rose Red', with 'Gunpowder Tim vs the Moon Kaiser'/'Underworld Blues'/'Riddle of the Sphinx' as my very clear followups, but I adore all their songs pretty much equally!
I don't believe I have a current favourite photo since I don't tend to look into the live performances or images on the sites! I tend to enjoy looking at fanart of the characters and reading fics/the official lore on the site rather than seeing the characters live/dressed up. Just the way I've always been, I tend to not like watching movies/shows/music that is liveaction, just not a fan I suppose.
As answered before, I don't tend to listen to the live performances or shows, I just am not a fan of broken emergence and the audience laughing or responding breaks it. It quite annoys me, honestly, and I prefer the pre-recorded banter and such. But I do really like one of the epilogue pieces for Once Upon A Time In Space of leading Briar Rose to Cinders, and Jonny shooting Tim for annoying him haha! It's quite funny to me. I also love the bit in the song of Dr.Pichard about Mariqus being upset that the Doctor thinks he's trying to trick him.
Thank you yet again for the ask! I quite enjoy receiving them!

hiii :3
for favorite mechanism HONESTLY it's most accurate to say it's a tie between ashes and nastya and marius, but if i had to choose just one it would be nastya! she is just so cool !!
my favorite album has changed a lot, at first it was OUATIS, then after i listened for a while it was HNOC, now after i took a break for a while and started listening to them a lot again it's TBI. the premise and themes of that one are definitely my favorite overall and i am an unapologetic lyfrassir enjoyer. (sorry UDAD at least 2 of your songs are in my top 5...)
my favorite song is actually pretty easy! it's sleeping beauty and it's been my favorite basically since i first listened to the mechanisms. i absolutely love it when the mechanisms themselves are present in the story they're telling (underworld blues and the hanged man rusts are also pretty up there for me for this reason) but my favorite from each of the other main albums are elysian fields, blood and whiskey, and sigyn
my favorite photo is literally anything from this post but especially the shopping cart one, the skipping one, and the swing one. i love toy soldier shenanigans
i don't have a favorite live recording actually i haven't seen many of them :< i would like to see more but i do not use youtube/watch videos often so i haven't gotten around to watching a lot
thank u for the ask :D
