my partner @800-dick-pics is a multiply disabled black lesbian in need of urgent funds for a service dog and the costs associated with travel!!

This is all so sudden and short notice, they happened upon this prospect while doing research and it fell into their lap, a puppy in a breed with the best temperament and size for their mobility needs. This is opportunity is huge for the independence of my fiancé.

For years now, my fiancé has been fighting with the medical system, I've seen them struggle to be believed by doctors due to medical racism, turned away and ignored at the ER, gaslight by ED clinics and multiple times I've physically caught them when they've passed out during a POTS episode. Their POTS EDS and CFS have rendered them housebound in this past year, unable to leave the house by themselves and it's gotten to the point where we both are afraid for their safety when they're alone in any capacity. I worry for them so greatly when I have to leave them for more than 20 minutes at a time because anything could happen.

This has been years in the making, even before we were together even. We've had to put this on hold for countless reasons throughout the years and at this point it can no longer be put off for the sake of my fiance' autonomy independence and quality of life. They're tired of not being able to hold a job or go out with friends or even just experience life outside of the walls of the house. This is incredibly important and this is our chance to change their life forever.

We need to meet this goal THIS WEEK, to be able to secure this opportunity including flight tickets, hotel room, training toys for the dog and food

We would not be asking if it wasn't so urgent, this can't be put on hold and all my fiance wants is to have a life again. Please help us if you're able, this opportunity means the world to my partner!

gotta say, the "id dog breeds" gimmick is fun and all but the thing about referencing biological categories is that they're so much messier than the car model IDs that are being riffed off. especially with anything with a poodle coat, given.... the thirty years of doodles meaning that there are a hell of a lot of crosses out there.

I would not personally presume to confidently announce the breed of any poodle/doodly thing without having hands on it, because a) crosses with all manner of options are so common, b) so much of the common heuristic for recognizing poodle vs doodle is a matter of haircut, and c) it's so hard to assess anything about the structure of a dog with a loose, rough coat that obscures the dog's shape. Frankly, after getting Benton's Embark back, I also don't make confident pronouncements about any mix.

Yeah, that dog is approximately half American Bully. Guess that from looking at him, folks. (I routinely flabbergast dog professionals by encouraging them to guess his breed makeup.) I still regularly read the r/DoggyDNA subreddit, and it's just astonishing how many ways there are to build a mutt and how hard it is to accurately predict anything about a mixed breed dog's ancestry without additional information--especially when a lot of colors pop out in mixes in some rather unexpected ways. (For example: Golden and Labrador retriever mixes have a pronounced tendency to pop out as brindles, bewildering everyone concerned. There are a lot of dominant black pit bulls. And about 75% of anything with a wire coat is poodle, not any kind of terrier.) There are so many ways to get a black and tan or sable dog. If you want to claim expertise, you have to know what the limits of your knowledge are and when you need additional information to make a call.

Identifying purebred dogs which come out of a controlled gene pool is obviously much easier, although you need to be aware how various populations within breeds have been selected and what those populations typically look like. Even then, you need to be careful: it's so easy to assume that conformation shots show you what a given dog breed looks like, but that's usually not the case: both pet and working populations have often diverged substantially from the conformation ideal, not least because conformation standards are a fucking social construct. We have to distinguish between socially constructed and natural categories when we try to learn how to run these kinds of identifications.

more broadly, dogs are living things and therefore they don't come with model numbers or unique serial numbers. "Breed" is a social construct that shapes their populations because, basically, our human culture says it should. You can identify a car very accurately because cars are human-made inanimate objects, and each category of car is essentially identical within the category at construction. That's how mass-produced items work. They lend themselves so nicely to this kind of ordered assignment and identification.

Animals do not work like that. You can strive for uniformity all you want, but mutation is going to pop up and fuck with your carefully uniform lines when you aren't looking. For example, just look at the C57BL/6J and C57BL/6N mouse substrains, which have been bred in total isolation from any other mouse population in brother-sister matings aiming for total uniformity since the 1930s... and were noticed having developed divergent characteristics by the 1950s. Turns out that substrain matters.

And you can't tell without running some very specific tests, let alone from any marker so plain as a static picture.

TANJIRO would like to raise a dog, standard but oddly fitting for him. I think he would have multiple to be honest, he enjoys breeds that are more active so I would see him with a golden retriever or a Labrador. His pets really like you to!! Almost like he silently taught them to be just like him.

He definitely has dogs that get big but still thinks they are lap dogs 100%. Whenever you come over to his house and sit anywhere it’s a 50% chance a dog will come lay near you, next to you, or usually on top of you. His dogs are kinda spoiled to, he’ll you he scolds them but you caught him giving them treats when he was suppose to one time.

ZENITSU wants something small, not to big and easy to manage. Personally I think he own a bunch of guinea pigs. Very random choice but just hear me out. They remind me of his sparrow, he likes to hold them when he’s around the house. You may see him walking in a thick turtleneck during the summer, but that’s just because his guinea pig is resting in the next area.

They are a little stubborn though, even zenitsu doesn’t know why. They can get mad and almost bit you before, but that’s normally if they haven’t eaten. You don’t what zenitsu feeds them but he definitely has those really thick guinea pigs just for no reason at all. Well there is a reason as you have to invite his guinea pig to the table to eat with you all during dinner. Also obanai is banned from coming over is kaburamaru is tagging along.

INOSUKE probably wants a really unconventional pet, like I bet he tried to convince you to let him get a boar before. In the end he sticks with a dog like tanjiro. Just the breeds are different I bet he wants have to have a doberman or a German Shepard. He wants to train those dogs for war I tell you.

You refused to enter his house for a bit until his dogs get to know you, you preferred keeping in your feet and not getting tackled by his dogs. He likes to play fight with them always playing fetch with them outside. Although besides this you to went a farm that was mixed with a shelter where they have this really small boar. Every time you go there inosuke always spends time without. He named the lil dude megatron.

KANAO I feel like would have a bird of some sorts. A really well trained one as well. Not like a usual house pet but those really expensive exotic birds. She’s trained it and had help from professionals to train it now, it’s at this point where you can almost have full fledged conversation with it. It knows both of your names, the food it likes everything.

Sometimes the bird is unusually smart.. like the time you brought snacks that you and the bird can both eat but kanao never wants you to. When she can back you had everything hidden and the perfect fool proof lie created. Until the bird “coincidentally” said your name and the beaks brand right after. You were the one getting in trouble and her bird face no repercussions.

GENYA is pretty straightforward he just wants a cat. He likes how they’re more chill and calm and sometimes just hang by themselves or with him. also because the cat owning trait was subconsciously influenced by gyomei’s love for cats. It just grew on him eventually. I think I can see him with one of those black and white bicolor cats but I doubt he would care about the breed.

You tend to compare Genya to his cat a lot because of how similar they look in the face. For some reason Genya’s cat just looks mad, all the time. He could be giving it treats and it would just have the more monotone expression on its face. The cat doesn’t mind you though, Genya could be calling it thinking it’s asleep. Only to find it trailing after you while you go to sit on his couch.

Neil: Brown Golden Retriever

I really tried going off their colour, size, shape language, vibes and personality and all that, and Neil DEFFO has golden retriever energy but the darker colour helps him contrast with Todd and also is in reference to his life and looks more

Todd: Cream Labrador

Honestly I don't know what other dog to have put for Todd this is the best fit I think He is calm and chill like labs but also wouldn't hesitate to defend his friends and stand his ground :)

Chris: Samoyed

I really didn't wanna put Chris as a light (esp white) coloured dog bc of her connotations with light colours but 😭 It literally fits so well hskdhbfjhds she looks so pretty I couldn't not do it :") and also there's not many darker dogs that fit her vibe :( She can still accessorize in darker colours tho ofc ofc

Ginny: Blue Heeler

Nah C'MON this is SUCH a Ginny dog like the bluish blackish warmish greyish patterns on the fur is like exactly what I think she'd wear and the dark round patterns are reminiscent to her dark wavy hair :)

This was the only one that made a little sense to me tbh 😭 I literally tried looking for so many types of small dogs but they all looked weird and unfitting and wrong so this is the best I got 💀 Also apparently their personalities are quite unpredictable and "mystic" which I think matches pretty well with her impulsive and creative sense

Knox: German Shepherd Hound Mix

This is such a Knox dog omg look at him he's got the same cowardly mopey doe eyed look the lil freak always has I love him I esp wanted a dog that would be of a bigger build but more quiet and kinda scared looking like Knox is, and I think it worked p well with the hound addition bc german shepherds are guard and fighting dogs and the mix totally subverting that threatening appearance fits pretty well with Knox's lack of interest in getting involved with trouble or scuffs Also he looks like he'd give good hugs which :))))))

So for the Wolf Den AU, I've mostly just been imagining them as like... giant wolves? When they're in human form, they're just themselves with... varying levels of wolfishness on top of it. But when they're in wolf form, they're just... Big Wolves. Which is saying something cause wolves are already big.

But as for what dog breeds they'd all be if they weren't wolves:

Ian - Chihuahua

Ahh, I see you're looking for a full and total cast response! Very well, I'll do my best.

Pinepaw - Border collie. Needs to be doing something constantly or he will explode, always sniffing things out

Cormorantpaw - Doberman. Bad reputation, important looking, just needs to be treated right

Asphodelpaw - Akita. Very pretty dog, I always feel like they're judging me

Daffodilpaw - Jack Russell. Super high energy, desperately wants your attention

Slugpelt - Saluki. Soft and extremely sad looking

Rainhaze - Golden Labrador Retriever. Popular dog, cute, very loyal

Dustfeather - Afghan hound. Thinks it's better than you

Nightberry - Xoloitzicuintli. I feel like they could predict the future

Cypressfoot - Welsh corgi. Imminently huggable

Mallowstar - Samoyed. Ball of white fluff, very kind, very wise

Blacknose - Basset hound. Sweet and slow-moving

Beeface - Those little white terriers that old ladies have. Loud, always barking, would bite my ankles

Plumstripe - Poodle. Crisply manicured, finicky, smug

Egrettail - Unidentifiable mutt. Vaguely wolfy, exceedingly gentle

Cootstorm - Cocker spaniel. I don't trust them

Redpelt - Whippet. Trembling constantly, probably needs a safety vest, could still bite you

Deepdark - Catahoula. Strange mix of friendly and scary, weird kinda woods dog

Prowl - what are you talking about. that is fully a wolf.

Fang - Bulldog. Practical, good guardian, solid as a brick wall

Spike - Mastiff. Used to kill bears and it shows

Venus and Jake are very much a one cat, one dog family. I get the vibe from Venus that she loves all animals, but she just vibes with cats better and Jake is so dog coded. Definitely one to get a pure bred golden retriever or bring home a stray. No in between.

So when he tells Venus "I'm ready for a new addition to our family."

Which of course screws with Venus a bit because she just got used to the idea of being known, and now he just expects her to say 'yes' to having a child???

"I was looking at some dog shelters-"

She definitely has to be the strong one while he's planning a jail break. "Jake, I'm sorry, but we can't take them all."

"V, we can just buy a house on a piece of land, it'll be the dream. They can roam free. Look at their faces..."

And all she sees is his eyes and pure white smile next to a chihuahua that's vibrating into the next dimension. "Don't do that."

"Got you to cave once. I can wear you down again. And I've got some adorable friends this time."

And when he finally does take one to a room so that way they can play with them for a bit, he definitely tells the dog "go to your mama." And venus will never admit to the way it made her feel.

Venus loves all animals, but is drawn to cats due to how independent and selective they are. She and Jake adopt another kitty and name them Pastrami. Pastrami and Rugelach instantly bond.

Jake grew up on a ranch, so he loves any and all animals. I see him and Bob bonding over that (I headcanon that Bob grew up on a farm in the Midwest).

Oh God, he would ask it that way.

"Jake, that's a huge commitment and we just got married, don't you think we need some time to settle?" Venus asks, trying not to lose her shit.

Jake just nods like it's no big deal, "I get that. But I was looking at some dog shelters-"

Venus doesn't listen to the rest of his sentence because she's just thinking oh thank God he's talking about animals.

More cuteness underneath

"We are starting with one dog Jake. Our townhouse isn't big enough-"

"We can just buy a house," Jake shrugs as he continues to pet the German Shepard who has made their home into Jake's lap.

"You seriously want to buy a house just to have more dogs?"

"Not just more dogs. Eventually," Jake's cheeks begin to turn red, "Kids too."

Venus is doing everything not to appear flustered, "Slow down cowboy. Let's focus on a dog today."

They find this pitbull terrier mix. She had puppies before, and now that her pups have been adopted, the shelter wants her to find her forever home. Her name is Nellie and Jake is already thinking of what Jewish food they can rename her.

"That means she'll be good with other dogs and kids," Jake points out.

They take Nellie/Bagel (Jake's idea) into the playroom. Bagel is very curious about Jake (it's his Golden Retriever energy), whereas Venus is more calm and gives Bagel some space so they don't get overwhelmed.

"Alright Bagel, go to your mama!" Jake points to Venus and all of a sudden, she feels her stomach fluttering and a warm feeling washing over her.

Bagel's eyes perk up and she immediately goes over to Venus, who stretches out an open hand to let her sniff.

They take Bagel home that day.

Six months later, Jake comes home carrying a little black Labrador puppy.

"Jacob Seresin, why do you have a dog?!" Venus asks. Bagel's tail is wagging as she waits at Jake's feet.

"They were running along the highway and I knew a big storm was coming! I couldn't just leave them out there!" Venus can't even get mad because the dog is super cute and Jake's actions are secretly making her melt.

They do take the dog to the shelter but no one comes first the sweet little thing. And after seeing Bagel take such good care of them, Jake and Venus really have no choice but to adopt Lox.

Charlie and Paige!!!

I took a crack at drawing my little angels in my style! I feel like I can never get them JUST right, but they feel perfect in the final piece.... I guess interpretation is key!

Charlie is my 12 yo old Golly (Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix). He's my smart lil dude. Sad to see him gain arthritis and cateracts in his old age....

Paige is my 6yo Labradane (Labrador/Great Dane mix). She absolutely means the world to me and is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met!

Both of them are rescued street dogs and they're my absolute world!
