The Romance of Tiger and Rose is amazing! I'm 5 episodes in, and so far I've been helplessly laughing so much sometimes I even end up on the floor holding my ribs. The premise of it is just so funny and clever, and the way it's done never takes the easy road, I really love it! It's also super, super cute. Oh, and yeah, it is tragic and emotionally tear-jerking at times too. Xiaoqian/Qianqian is hilarious and clever and dumb and genius, I adore her. This is going to be fun to watch!
Tumblr media
I also started Legend of Fei, 3 episodes in, as everyone else I am in awe of Wang Yibo's talent and versatility, and I'm really curious to see where it's going to go. 51 episodes! So much is going to happen, I feel like I need to get ready for so many twists and turns, so much fluff, angst, plot and action, it's making me dizzy!
Tumblr media
After these two (and that's already going to keep me busy for at least a couple of months, depending on whether I binge-watch, I'm busy with uni/work, or I watch other shows in between), the next cdrama on my list is Love and Redemption, so I'm always open to recs! Big fan of xianxia, want more of those.

Charm Ball Tennis
Context: The temporary character I was playing for this session wouldn't be introduced until the end of the big combat at the start, so I was playing one of the bad guys (Half-Elf Archfey Warlock, not that the party knows that) instead.
Me: Okay, so, yeah, I'm gonna cast Dominate Person on Barbarian
[He just barely makes the save]
Fey Wanderer Ranger: Wait, wait! Oh, I finally get to use this! I have Beguiling Twist, and since he made the save, now you have to make a save or be charmed! Uno reverse, motherfucker.
[Rest of the table laughs a little. I am just barely holding back an evil cackle]
Me: Yeah, well, you see, I have this thing called Beguiling Defenses-
[All of us erupt into hysterical laughter]
Me, barely able to speak through giggles: Which means that 1) I am immune to being charmed, and 2) now you have to make a saving throw or be charmed.
Changeling Warlock: (slams hands on table) UNO REVERSE, MOTHERFUCKER!
[We all lose our shit again]
DM: So you all watch as this tragedy, this comedy of errors, Warlock tries to charm Barbarian, fails, then Ranger tries to charm Warlock, and Warlock just throws it right back. You know how in Legend of Zelda, there are those boss fights that are just you and Ganondorf hitting energy balls at each other? Yeah, this is that.
Me: Charm Ball Tennis!

silvia's drama watching queue for 2024: a somewhat random assortment of stuff that was rec'd and for some reason feels it might scratch an itch
in progress - started & I swear I'm gonna finish
* Empresses in the Palace - I'M DOING IT BABYYYYY. 9 episodes down. Yes, the emperor looks like your grandpa and so far has the personality of stale toast. But as long as I don't imagine him naked (no, grandpa, no! it's time for your nap!) then it has this vibe of those Masterpiece Theatre productions I watched as a preteen and I already am recognizing tons of famous tropes (some elements of Job of Imperial Concubine already 3x funnier). Also I appreciate a horror story with a high body count and we have 3 victims already 👌
* Derailment - Modern cdrama that I know is great. I'm 3 ep in, just gotta be in the right mood
* Legend of Fei - Wuxia; got distracted halfway through last year but love the 2 lead actors. Not their best work but still.
* Fireworks of my Heart - what if china did a modern Persuasion adaption but he's a fireman and she's a nurse, basically. kinda. idk man, it has those same vibes for me. I like both lead actors (yes I'm on the YY Can Act Sometimes, When He Feels Like It defense squad. fight me). I'm like 1/3 of the way thru, need to be in that melancholy romantic wallow mood. But mmm I do love second chance + pining.
* Secret Romantic Guesthouse - a wild kdrama appears! Historical drama about saving your inn from debtors by finding a missing royal & turning him over to be murdered. you know, just girlboss things. 💁 Some mystery, some romance. I like the FL. Not much slapstick humor or people screaming at each other so far, which will make me tap out. 4 episodes in and it's quite watchable. I'll probably finish.
not started
* The Left Ear because why not? teens being realistically messy 👌
* Go Ahead - so this may sound strange but I've been holding back on this one a long time, until my work hours were less insane & I can focus. Universally beloved, one of the top cdramas. I'll sink my teeth into this Modern in 2024.
* The Blessed Girl cause it sounds like my jam
* Fake It Till You Make It - modern romance that I've seen rave reviews for. Pretty confident I'll love it.
* Gone with the Rain cause dangermousie's posts seduced me. Costume drama.
* West out of Yeman/Parallel World - multi-verse modern with a lil sci fi? I love multiverse and time travel \o/
* Wonderland of Love - historical romance with generals and some court intrigue, a happy ending. On paper, my kind of stuff. But will I make it thru 40 ep depends on how much I vibe with the otp
Maybe
Choice Husband (12 eps romantic comedy, then turns into blood and manipulation? sounds intriguing)
Moonlight - modern workplace drama, editor/author. Reviews are mixed but I have affection for how cdrama scriptwriters will obsessively research a topic in the style of an AO3 fic writer. I expect to learn more than I ever wanted to know about the toils of being an editor.
Marry My Husband - I don't watch many kdramas but I turn up for tropey reborn every time. If they deliver on the promise of a ridiculous but entertaining romance revenge then I'm there.

AHHHHH I want to watch Yibo in War of Faith or Storm Chaser or whatever it is, but I will definitely have to skip the t0rture scenes DDDDDD: It's weird because I am the most massive h/c person in the world when it comes to characters. But something about those scenes crosses a few of my lines in that "I know it when I see it" kind of way. For me, it hits all the Gs: too gritty, too graphic, too gruesome, and too gratuitous.
In something like Legend of Fei--and actually, Xiao Zhan in CQL--I feel like the injuries and sicknesses in those were magical in nature, so they were fine for me to watch. (Though I always do skip through Wen Ning's death - and the Jiang kid 😭 - honestly I have never watched either of those scenes, I am quick with the FF button. Wanton cruelty is hard for me to watch being depicted.) But there were t0rture scenes in CQL also and they didn't bother me. And we spent most of LoF watching Yibo slowly die and I was okay with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm trying to figure out why Wen Chao brutally beating Wei Wuxian was fine to watch, but from what I've seen of War Of Faith t0rture scenes, that's a huge no for me.
On a side note I also have to say that I read all the behind-the-scenes stuff about how it was really cold while they were filming that, and everyone else was wearing coats but he was just in his torn up shirt and how everyone is so proud of him for that. It was the same when he did that fighter pilot one and he worked while he was really sick and everyone was like "YAY! Such dedication, what a great actor!" I really wish people would get over this glorification of working in bad conditions. It's not okay.
Which is not a reflection on Yibo; I think he's always been a terrific actor, but these days he's really grown, and become fully amazing and really watchable. To the point where I think I can could him as one of my all-time favorite actors!

FFXIV LFRP; Miyako Akane
Tumblr media
Full name: Miyako Akane
Race: Auspice/Yokai
Gender: Genderfluid? Nonbinary? Really, it's whatever they feel like at the moment. Her pronouns depend on the skin she's in at the time: she/they, or he/they. Typically prefers her female presenting form unless her masculine form is more preferable to those she's interacting with.
Sexuality: All of it. Anything.
Marital Status: Single! She's not settling down, she's always on the prowl.
Age: Several centuries old
Profession: She doesn't have one! Though technically they may read your cards or offer a boon...for a price, and she rarely accepts actual currency
Hobbies: Pranking mortals. Preying on mortals. Seducing mortals, people watching... and generally just about anything to do with the forest, or nature.
Hair: Dark orange/white accents
Eyes: Amber
Distinguishing Marks: Typically veiled as a Miqo'te, there is little distinguishing about her person to those unable to see through the magic she uses - although on occasion, one might spot a fluffier tail than she actually seems to have, out of the corner of their eye. To those able to see through this magic... she's quite a bit different than her feline glamour would suggest to the average person. In their feminine presenting forms, she always has red tattoo-markings around her eyes.
Tumblr media
RP Hooks
She's still as-yet un-roleplayed, so there's a lot of potential - and there's less impetus for me to want longer storylines on her, so if you just want a few one-off scenes to have your cards read or the like, those are easier on her than on my other characters, though I'm always a sucker for a long plot/storyline that's steeped in character growth! Never be afraid to approach me if you have an idea!
Maybe you want your cards read! I have several tarot decks IRL, and an oracle deck that's well-suited to her too, and I could no doubt use the practice, myself. She essentially makes fey bargains - deals with weird prices that aren't always clear at first.
She may be centuries old, but she was barely over a century when she was imprisoned out in the East, and only escaped her magical prison in the last couple years! (I was, in fact, inspired by JJK and Sukuna for her imprisonment.) She ran from the East and took a new face to pose as, since she was captured and imprisoned in the East, and the people there still respect the old legends... and the Black Shroud is an excellent forest, vibrant with life! ...and unsuspecting mortals.
Speaking of the Black Shroud, there's a lot of ways to interact with her in regard to that! You could randomly run into her. She could do what kitsune do in the old tales, and lure you off the road at night and get you lost. Maybe you've seen something weird in the forest, or heard strange tales from travelers. Maybe you're just really in tune with the elementals and they've mentioned a new entity in the forest...really, I'm open to about anything with some talk about it beforehand!
She feeds on aether! She doesn't have to kill people to do this, though she's certainly not above it - what are morals to an animal, anyways? Food is food. Prey is prey. But sometimes, it's easier to just seduce someone and feed on their aether, before leaving them naked and drained in the forest to have a laugh at their expense.
Given her long imprisonment, much about the world is new to her! Maybe you lure her in by showing her all the nifty new stuff there is, and blowing her mind at how much things have changed in a few hundred years.
You could be an antagonist! Hunt her, if you like! Maybe she hurt you, or someone you care(d) about! Maybe you're from the East and found out her prison was dismantled, and you fear yokai; or you're just a Shroud Dweller who has been wronged, etc.
Romance! While I don't tend to like interactions that are solely focused on seeking out ERP - she is a sensual creature, and physical intimacy is an indulgence and a way to consume aether... though I don't know how she'd feel about genuine romance... last time she indulged in that, it got her caught and imprisoned!
She likes pranks/mischief... and sometimes that mischief can seem cruel if you don't understand the mindset of a creature of the wild. Engage her on her level, and she might find you more 'fun' than 'food'.
Alternately, she carries her soul around in an orb she wears as jewelry, and if someone got their hands on it, it'd be bad news for her!
About anything you can think of and want to brainstorm together! She's an alt that's good for long-term or short-term RP; serious, or not-so-serious moments... there's plenty of potential!
Tumblr media
The OOC
Writer is 30+, and I prefer RP partners to be 21+ - I do prefer darker, more mature RP, but that's not all I'm capable of! I just like morally grey explorations - and questions like 'what really drives a person?'
Late nights aren't really something I can do anymore, past 11-12pm my writing isn't any good, though my schedule is open enough to allow earlier starting times. Also I'm CST, and prefer in-game RP. I simply can't stay in character when RP isn't moving in real time, and tend to just forget to respond to out of game stuff, or not feel well enough to write some days, and it ends up taking so long that I can't stay in character. Thus, scheduling in-game scenes ahead of time will always be what works best for me.
No canon characters please, it just really breaks my immersion/my character wouldn't have any reason to interact with canon characters really! Unfortunately, this means WoL OCs as well - their power level is just so intense that I can't really justify my OCs interacting with the WoL: time-traveling slayer of gods at the edges of the universe. (And no shade to canon RPers of any kind - it's just not my cup of tea, is all. Embrace your fun, my friends!) I also don't mind bending lore, but outright ignoring/breaking with it is also not really for me - and again, there's no judgement for how others choose to have fun, but I like to respect the canon.
I prefer plots, and RP with a purpose - contact solely focused on ERP is not welcome. ERP as part of an on-going story doesn't bother me, however.
Don't bring IC into OOC, or vice verse!
Communicate! If the RP isn't working for you, just tell me! I prefer 'organic RP,' but if you want to steer a story (RP) in a certain direction or don't want it steering in a direction, let me know! I much prefer having that conversation, rather than allowing an RP partner to be silently upset or uncomfortable!Follows come from @ooc-miqojak , and my other blogs are @miqojak and @antlers-and-omens!

Hi RBS. Have you noticed a trend in c-dramas where the FL is portrayed as clingy, childish, jumpy, needy, desperate for attention etc. I haven't even listed all the adjectives here. So I began watching The Longest Promise and I am predicting the same characteristics. Other examples, to name a few: Bai Feng Jiu in TMOPB, the FL of Love and Redemption, Little Bone in Journey of Flower, Lin Xi in Love and Destiny.
Do directors and producers think how they portray FL is romantic, socially accepted of ladies? Sometimes the good acting of ML is washed down by the portrayal of the FLs. Of course I have seen some FLs being strong and independent minded like in A Dream of Splendour. Liu Yufei did a fantastic job there.
Is it a cultural issue when females are portrayed like that?
Kindly share your thoughts on this.
Hi Kathomi! 😊
This is a topic I feel incredibly underqualified to comment on. I don't know enough about it, and I don't have anywhere near enough experience with C-dramas or with women's issues in China (or with how these characters are received by audiences in China) to be able to have any sort of intelligent response.
However, I asked my sister who has watched dozens and dozens and dozens of C-dramas, and this was her response:
There are several different genres and I don't know enough about the different categories (I am just not a category nerd) but there are definitely distinct genres that span a "coming of age" storyline for the FL. The ones mentioned here are good examples.
In these, the FL is adorable and mischievous and naive at the beginning, and her quest leads her to grow and become formidable in her own way. Bai Fengjiu is actually less this way than say, Orchid in Love Between Fairy and Devil.
The adorable, cute FL is pretty much the equivalent, in my mind, of Manic Pixie Dream Girl (RBS note: she's talking about this). It's really present in every culture's media, as far as I can see. It's just one of many tropes out there.
There are loads of dramas out there with kickass FLs.
Who Rules the World has a strong female lead and she's played by the incomparable Zhao Lusi, and the ML is Yang Yang, so there's one to watch. Also Lu Zhao Yao and Xu Kai in The Legends. Legend of Fei has a strong FL too, of course.
If there's anything that I personally can say about this topic I know nothing about, it is that it is never a good idea to paint with too broad a brush. I think that actually it's always wisest to narrow our statements/assumptions down as much as we can.
For example, instead of saying "It seems like Chinese dramas tend to have these kinds of characters, and it might be reflection of Chinese culture" it is better to say, "It seems like the Chinese dramas that I have seen so far have these kinds of characters. Perhaps I'm watching dramas that have characters that are incompatible with my interests."
I think that it is almost always a good idea to avoid assuming something is cultural that could be explained in some other way. When we make cultural assumptions, that begins to rub elbows with stereotyping or worse.
Not to say that is where you were coming from or that this isn't in fact a cultural trope - like I said, I don't know anything about the particular issue - but it's something that came into my mind when I read your ask.
I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but I've been watching The Youth Memories and the story is outstanding. There are characters with real depth and who face struggles that are realistic, interesting and emotionally compelling. The acting is great, the writing is great, and the women are strong and interesting.
So maybe try watching a different story if you're not into the one you are watching.

Hi okay SO. I have been putting off making an introduction post because I'd mostly prefer people to just look at my blog and decide if they want to hang out based on that, rather than making some big definitive statement about Who I Am.
But I'm currently accumulating followers at a truly alarming rate and - look, I don't want to give the impression I'm ungrateful, I am genuinely SO TOUCHED by every single one of you who's interested in what I have to say!! The feeling is 100% mutual, and I am having a blast sharing everyone's thoughts and enthusiasm. It's just that my goal with this blog is to have fun and do my own thing. I don't hate attention but I'm also not looking for it.
On balance, then, I think it's probably a good idea to give people a general sense of what I'm about so that if it doesn't appeal to you, we can opt out of each other's social circle before anyone steps on anyone else's toes.
My general philosophy:
I am here to have fun. I might occasionally have a little kvetch about some fandom trend or another but ultimately, even if your favourite trope drives me up the wall, I'm genuinely so happy that it is out there bringing you joy. I try very very hard to treat everyone with kindness and to avoid getting caught up in drama.
This isn't a clique it's a community. Please leave commentary on my posts or drop me a message if you wanna chat!
I follow and unfollow pretty liberally and never mean anything personal by it. I might consider you a friend but still unfollow if your current hyperfocus isn't jiving with mine. In turn, I will never take offence to anyone doing the same with me. Regardless of our following status, I'm always up to chat.
I don't do DNIs. Interact if you want to, don't if you don't. Good faith questions and comments are always welcome. Malicious behaviour will be blocked.
Primary Fandoms
Good Omens - I have loved this fandom for years and years, since before the TV show as it exists today was even a twinkle in Neil's eye. I ship Crowley and Aziraphale SO HARD and I am completely blown away by everything that we've gotten since the first season came out in 2019. Fifteen year old me could not even have imagined!!!
Supernatural - Literal opposite energy. I resisted this show for its entire run, after watching the pilot when it aired and thinking "if I watch this, I will end up shipping the brothers, and I am just not prepared for shipping the brothers." Fifteen years later destiel came in swinging with the steel chair and I grumbled and decided I'd better watch it to find out what all the fuss was about. And do you guys know what? I was right all along. I came away from that show obsessed with it as a gothic horror story and shipping the brothers hard. So wincest is my otp, but I'm a multishipper and I have a soft spot for wincestiel, destiel and sastiel too. As a darkfic enjoyer, I also dabble in John/Dean/Sam and variants. I'm not, like, opposed to less-dark takes on this, they just don't do much for me. I'm pretty careful to tag ships in this fandom consistently, so if you don't want to see something, you can blacklist it.
Side Fandoms
You might see these occasionally or for short stretches but they aren't currently taking over my brain the same way Good Omens and Supernatural are.
Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright/Miles Edgeworth. Queerplatonic Phoenix Wright/Maya Fey. Enthusiastic dabbler in background ships and rarepairs.)
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild+ (Link/Sidon. Link/Gannon. Bemused Link/Zelda ally [I don't ship it but I'm happy for all of you and enjoy the gender bending fanart].)
Ted Lasso (Roy/Keeley/Jamie. Queerplatonic Ted/Rebecca. Rebecca/Sam enjoyer. Pro-finale loyalist. Every single character is my best friend and also my daughter.)
Hannibal (Will/Hannibal. Margot/Alana enjoyer.)
Tagging
I mostly tag for fandoms and ships (although I'm not currently tagging for Crowley/Aziraphale beyond the parent "good omens" tag. That may change if I settle on a tag I like). I wish that I could tag for triggers requested by people who want to follow me, but realistically, that isn't something I can guarantee and trying just wipes me out. If trigger tags are something you need, we may have to admire one another from afar.
At some point I will add a list of useful organisational tags here but for now you can always just browse back through my archives if you're interested.

MDZS Fanfic AU Idea:
TL;DR: Lan Wangji and most other Lans regularly sneak around disguised as rogue cultivators so they can break Lan rules in secret — until the other sects find out...
Throwback to that one idea I had way back when of a Canon Divergent AU of The Untamed where it turns out that the Lan Sect actually *can't* follow all 3.5k rules all of the time... and so in desperation they were forced to come up with the idea (excuse) of establishing a spy network where they would be required to go undercover without the fancy headbands or the vibrant white clothes or, most importantly, the excessively rigid rules...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liu Haikuan (LXC) in 'The Long Ballad' & Wang Yibo (LWJ) in 'Legend of Fei'
---
(Not because they need a spy network or anything — the spy network is just an excuse. In reality, too many Lans were breaking too many rules and having to be punished all the time, and it was risking ruining their reputation.
Afterall, if even the Lans can't follow all of their rules, how can they expect the guest disciples to? Something had to change...
And so, instead of simply changing the rules or easing up on them a bit (the obvious, rational choice), they instead established a spy network where Lans under too much pressure from following so many rules would be allowed to roam free, virtually uninhibited, on the sole condition that when they returned they would bring with them some new information about what's going on in the world...)
---
Only the other main sects know vaguely of the Lan Spy Network, and even then only because the Lan Sect seemed to have an endless well of information that they definitely shouldn't have and no one for the life of them can figure out how or where they're getting all this information from...
So, obviously the Lans must have some sort of spies — though, considering their well-documented inability to blend in (what with their white clothing and headbands and strict rules that must be followed at all times without exception) the other sects were under the impression that their spies were animals or something, rather like the Wen birds.
If not animals, then civilians or rogue cultivators that were employed by or indebted to the Lan.
(Under no circumstances were they expecting the Lans themselves to be the spies.)
---
This AU was largely inspired by two things:
That scene in the library where Lan Wangji told Wei Wuxian to "piss off." —People don't typically slip up and just say a word or phrase that they've never even thought of or said before... More likely, LWJ has said it before, but was trying to restrain himself from doing so while in "Lan-mode".
A while ago, I watched this other historical drama that also starred Wang Yibo (LWJ's actor), except that I didn't realize at first that it was him because he looked so different... different clothes, different hairstyle, different behavior... They were both historical dramas, but he looked like two completely different people! To the point that I didn't even recognize him!
For reference, here's a side-by-side comparison of Wang Yibo in The Untamed vs Legend of Fei:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you saw Guy-on-the-Right walking around town all smiley and smug you would NOT think, "Is that the great Hanguang Jun?! What is he wearing?!" No, you would instead think, "Wow, that rogue cultivator is pretty hot..."
I imagine they still keep their headbands on their person when in disguise, just hidden away so they're not visible... Most likely either wrapped around their wrist or their ankle and then hidden away under an arm cuff or a boot.
Little baby Lans are introduced to ~Undercover Work~ slowly, first by being brought out in pairs with an older, more experienced Lan while they're still young enough for their subdued behavior to be dismissed as just a "shy, well-behaved child" — but old enough that they won't slip up and say something they shouldn't, like, "Hi, I'm Lan Zhan."
Lan Wangji was of course first brought out by Lan Xichen, who reassured him that, "Yes, you can run if you want. Yes, you can shout and make noise. Yes, you can slouch. Yes, yes, yes..."
---
Whenever someone goes undercover, the other Lans will tell Outsiders that the reason they're unreachable is because they're "in seclusion".
While Lans do actually go into seclusion at times, it's not nearly as often as the other sects are led to believe. Far more likely, they're actually running around ~undercover~ and in-disguise, while seclusion is just being used as an excuse as for why no one can see them or get into contact with them.
---
Regular check-ins are of course required to keep track of everyone, much like a "Warm Body Count" in a college dorm.
Additionally, I forgot to mention this before but there are of course some rules that they are still expected to follow, namely the ones that everyone would be expected to follow — such as, for example, no murder.
No assault, no kidnapping, no destruction of public property... Just the stuff that most people would agree should never be allowed. (At least, not without good reason.)
---
Not all of the Lan disciples know about this. Su She, for example, has no idea.
It's only the inner disciples who are genuinely expected to follow all the rules all the time that are given this option of running away for a bit...
(They know that if they allowed everyone in the sect to be in on it, they would never be able to keep it a secret from the Outsiders.)
---
There are actually far, far more Lans than the other sects realize. This is because at any given time over half of all Lan disciples will be off premises either on official night hunts, wandering about in disguise, or on rotation keeping vigil at one of their many secret outposts.
Speaking of the Lan outposts, there are many all spread out throughout the cultivation world, including at least one in every single major sect's territory.
It's there that undercover Lans can check-in, pass along informative, get medical care, seek asylum, and so on and so forth.
These outposts are connected by secret tunnel systems that the Lans carved themselves, and only in extremely outstanding circumstances are Outsiders ever given any information at all whatsoever about the outposts — and even then, it is only the main family themselves that are permitted to deign to share that information.
The only time a member of another major sect ever heard anything about them is when Lan Xichen himself told Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang that if they ever found themselves in an extreme emergency scenario where they desperately needed medical help or asylum but for whatever reason had no where else that they could safely go, to seek out a specific place...
The mark he drew on their arm would signal to their people that they are under their protection and they would be granted asylum.
However, if they ever dared to tell anyone anything about what Lan Xichen had told them... Then the marks on their arms would become corrupted and they would not only be blacklisted from the outposts, but any attempt to enter would be met with lethal force.
---
The outposts are hidden in brothels, btw.
Brothels are special in that they tend to operate under an unspoken agreement amongst both the staff and the customers to never speak of what or who they see behind closed doors.
A sort of, "you don't see me, I don't see you" kind of situation.
Thanks to this, they don't have to worry about any witnesses speaking up about what they see; Injured, bleeding cultivators can stumble in the doors and through the halls, and enter rooms that they never come out of, and the other patrons will say nothing.

Age: 35 (Human equivalent 23) turns 36 during wotr
Birthday: 3rd of Lamashan
Star Sign: The Mother
Sexuality: Bisexual
Deity/Religion: Atheist
Class: Sorcerer: Crossblood; Air and Fey. Bard; Thundercaller
Background: Noble; Emissary
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Path: Azata to Legend
Appearance: (5’0” feet, 152 cm) Lariel is a young half-elf woman. Her frame is small given her poor health as a child. Pale skinned. She has long wavy voluminous dark auburn brown hair, parted in the center, decorated with a few small white flowers. Her eyes are green and slightly downturned with long eyelashes. She wears a long lavender caster robe, though she styles it to look more fashionable. She holds herself with a quiet charisma and gentle grace.
Personality: Much like the tempestuous winds, Lariel herself is full of conflicting directions. She starts out attempting to protect others from herself. While also desperately looking for anyone she can call a friend. Starting out as a shy and quiet young woman. Lariel will attempt to encourage and befriend most people around her. She can be very naïve about the ways of the world. Often comparing events to things she’s read in stories. Lariel will try to lighten someone's mood or see the best in a situation. Lariel responds well to lightheartedness, sincerity, and vulnerability. She prefers caution to action, and mercy to retribution. Lariel will have her exceptions, and she will greet those with an uncharacteristic mighty fury and despair.
Traits: Compassionate, curious, resourceful, naive, and creative.
History/Hooks: Lariel and her twin brother, Zrise, were born to an elven noblewoman out of an affair with a human man. Born bastards they were taken into their maternal grandfather's family tree. Thus they both sport their mother's maiden name.
- Lariel grew up isolated from the world. Her family using her sorcerous powers as their reasoning for her confinement. Often forcing her to wear an anti-magic collar. Only worsening her ability to control her magic.
- Lariel's poor health is in part because his blood was tainted, she gave him hers to keep her brother alive.
- In puberty she lost control of the storm within her, which resulted in the death of her teacher. Leaving her with lingering guilt and fear over her sorcerous power.
- Lariel befriended and grew infatuated with a criminal who scaled the walls of her family's estate to escape arrest. He did not return her feelings and he used her affection for him to get money from her. Telling her they'd run away together only for him to never return.
- Her family engaged her to a stranger against her wishes and with her dreams of romance shattered Lariel plans her escape. As she wants nothing more than to be free from her family’s neglectful yet judgmental eyes. To live her life authentically and happily.
Zrisel Aldonlel
Pronouns: He/Him
Gender: Cis Man
Species: It's complicated. Born a half-elf. (Dhampir; Ancient born)
Age: 35 (Human equivalent 23) turns 36 during wotr
Birthday: 3rd of Lamashan
Star Sign: The Mother
Sexuality: Bisexual
Deity/Religion: Calistria
Class: Inquisitor; Sanctified Slayer. Rogue; Rowdy
Background: Noble; Courtier
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Path: Trickster
Appearance: (5 '7'' feet, 170 cm) Zrise is undead so his skin is sickly pale with unnaturally cool tones. Long untamed black hair, that he at times pulls back and away from his face. Piercing blue eyes that he uses to watch intently. He wears the colors of his Goddess. He has gold piercings decorating his ears and face and a tattoo of a black swan on his left forearm. Also a tattoo on his back of wasp wings and a dagger, in honor of his Goddess. He also has a deep X-shaped scar above his heart, the rough skin there almost black. Depending on his mood he either holds himself with arrogance, barely concealed displeasure, or detached mischievousness.
Personality: Zrise gives a first impression of being callous and mysterious, though there is a bit of mischievousness. He doesn’t want to give up much information about himself. As an inquisitor he has to remain closed off and guard himself. He believes he must be strong so that he does not live under anyone’s thumb. He is often looking for something to do to entertain himself. He enjoys provoking others into reactions. He'd like you to think he is cold and aloof, only to be anything but. Zrise has volatile and emotional reactions. Despite his learned charisma, he finds himself rejected and feared due to being obviously undead. He tries to find enjoyment in people's terror as much as admiration. With no real moral code, he is often contradicting himself and twisting his beliefs to suit his whims and feelings.
Traits: Ambitious, callous, conniving, insincere, and vengeful.
History: Zrise and his twin sister, Lariel, were born to an elven noblewoman out of an affair with a human man. Born bastards they were taken into their maternal grandfather's family tree. Thus they both sport their mother's maiden name.
- Zrise was drowned by his mother as a child in a fit of despair and rage. Though the immediate regret she felt at the act was not out of compassion but consequence. Fearing her husband would take her "real" (elven) child from her for this act. Zrise's mother and grandfather called in some favors and through powerful necromantic magic they resurrected the boy. Though he was not the same. His ginger hair turned black. His skin grayed like a corpse. He grew fangs.
- His body, soul, and most pressingly, his blood are corrupted by the necromancy performed on him as a child. He needs blood to replace his own or he will deteriorate leading to his death.
- As a teenager he was sent to start his work as Calistria’s faithful. His rebellious actions, growing aggressive attitude towards his stepfather and half-brother, and pranks against the staff made his family send him to the capital of Galt. Isarn.
- Once he arrived a Calistrian priest took him under their wing. Soon he started training for work at the Golden Palace.
- As a young adult he had fallen for his mentor and friend. The relationship soured due to his feelings being in conflict with Calistrian teachings.
- Things escalated and resulted in the death of his mentor and their partner.
- Zrise then returned to Mendev to start his work as an inquisitor.
- Born without his sister’s gift of sorcerer's magic and cursed to fight for his life, Zrise turned to the divine. Raised to be a merciless weapon of his faith. He wishes to prove his worth to his family so that they might finally tell him the means to cure himself.

Hi Hello, I know I haven't talked a lot about CR lately (my brain won't let me watch it for some reason) but I'm back to talk about The Legend of Vox Machina, particularly: Grog.
Spoilers for The Legend of Vox Machina episode 9 below. There will be spoilers for the stream too, but I will also mark down where those start.
I love love love all the changes. Not only do I think they're a great way to adapt the absolute beast of content that CR is. Some are good sacrifices, there's shit gotta leave out, no matter how entertaining. I think they've pick very well what to leave completely out. Also, they're really smart in the way they've fused different adventures so they can have a two for one (like adding stuff from the rakshasa fight to the dungeon crawl at the Matron's temple so they can have that Kashaw-Kiki interactions). And of course there's the switching the order so it's more streamlined thing too, like Pyra. But what I thought was the best decision was the party splitting on the past three episodes.
Sure, you should never split the party and I hope they don't abuse that solution or that at least they play with the different combinations because it can be a detriment to the group dynamic. But this time?? They nailed it.
The fey wild group was perfect, you have all the development you need for the ships and also Vax and Percy get to patch things up a little and the twins are together for the family reunion. you have all the people important for a Vex Arc on one side.
On the other hand, you have Grog go through his arc with the two people most important to him. I love the Vax-Grog Dynamic, but like in the OG fight against the Earth breaker, his first choice will always be Pike and his second Scanlan. Also, you get some cute gnome flirting and a bit more development for Scanlan since Pike is the one that challenges more his flirty nature. Vex and Percy are permanently done with him, but they treat it like something that's just intrinsic to Scanlan. You can't change the weather, you simply complain about it. Pike on the other hand is the one that gets frustrated at the fact that Scanlan is unable to have a proper heart to heart or to be sentimental without defusing the tension. And Grog bringing out Scanlan's more caring nature is a nice touch. So it is the perfect team for Scanlan progress too.
But going back to what I actually wanted to talk about (because my Scanlan Meta will come too, but most likely next week) Grog. I love what they did with Craven Edge, I love how the show allows them to have this more "feelings based" resolution to Craven Edge's exhaustion. Because in game greater restoration or a night's sleep heal literally anything unless the DM specifically requests it.
What this does is it gives them the chance to introduce the whole "where does your strength come from?" Question in a place where the stakes are super high and it's thematically appropriate. That whole speech about how Grog considers strength helping those who can't help themselves...chills.
Now spoilers for the stream
I think it also Segways brilliantly into the whole "My strength are my friends" by maybe combining it with the whole "Vox Machina...Fuck shit up". If that happens, I'm gonna cry so hard I will dehydrate. I love the fact that they are giving so much attention to Grog, his growth his emotions because they're often brushed off. Travis wasn't still super comfortable roleplaying emotional scenes in campaign one and Tal, Liam and Marisha had a lot os experience and really angsty characters. Also Laura and Sam are just that powerful, you can't expect most people's experience first character to be that emotionally vulnerable (specially while streaming).
Ashley was also more nervous with the streaming and stuff, so Pike and Grog while not underdeveloped at all, usually didn't have the emotional spotlight on them the way we're seeing in the show. I think giving Grog the physical vulnerability and stripping most of his companions away is a great way to allow that depth to shine. When you don't have four extra characters each making questions and each proposing solutions, the spotlight shines directly on Grog and I love it.
I've always treasured those rare moments were Grog gets to open up and show his heart. I really love that trope of big dumb character also has emotional complexity, so I really enjoyed the last episode and I can't wait for the next one.

So I have not the first idea what critical thingy-bob is but I've just reread all your Witcher fics and it's not enough so clearly I'm going to have to follow you into a new fandom. Is there a primer? How much do I need to know? Is it like OG Bandom where a hundred fics in I'm still not sure how many bands there are? Or Teen wolf where I couldn't quite face the source material at all but feel like I have a handle on the whole set up?
:deep breath:
Okay, so! Critical Role is a long-running Actual Play show on Twitch/YouTube--each episode is three to five hours of watching a group of voice actors sit around a table and play Dungeons & Dragons. All of their main D&D campaigns take place in the world of Exandria which they have created for these games, and as the campaigns go on they connect to each other in various ways, so it does all become one vast interconnected story. Critical Role has a good wiki that gives overviews of all of this stuff and links to videos, but just so you know where to start looking and how it all relates...
Their first campaign began as the home game this group of friends played in their spare time for a couple of years before they turned it into a Web Series (largely, they've all said, so that they'd have a reason to definitely get together and play every week). That first campaign, Vox Machina, is currently in the process of being adapted into an animated series, with two seasons available on Amazon Prime: The Legend of Vox Machina.
Currently, Critical Role is running its third main campaign, Bells Hells, which started in the fall of 2021 and shows no signs of ending anytime soon.
The second campaign, which began in 2018 and ended in the summer of 2021, although there continue to be shorter bonus episodes, is the one my currently-posting sex pollen fic is about, and it's called The Mighty Nein. My fic is set fairly early on in the run, and this is the official artwork of the main characters at that time:
Tumblr media
Left to Right: Mollymauk Tealeaf, Beauregard Lionett, Fjord Stone, Frumpkin the Fey Cat Familiar, Caleb Widogast, Nott the Brave, Jester Lavorre, and Yasha Nydoorin.
The entire run of The Mighty Nein's campaign comprises 600+ hours of videos (also available in podcast form) but if you want a quicker route to getting an idea of the story of it all, you can read the recaps or for the even shorter short version, watch the animated recaps which compress the whole story into about an hour of cute animatics voiced by Critical Role's official Lorekeeper, Dani Carr.
I hope this helps!

Haiiii,
I don’t want to sound ungrateful because we got to see gg onscreen after a long long time and only I know how much I missed him and felt depressed over it. But my ask is actually about the timings of the release of his shows. Do you not think the release of the longest promise is just messy and weird? There was no announcement and it was suddenly released after such a long wait. A show that is so highly anticipated was dropped just like that nobody was prepared. And there is no break between the youth memories and this. Some people are still watching TYM and they’ll be left behind by the time they finish that. I don’t know what’s more annoying releasing the show without any news or announcement or releasing it right after his previous show finished and that show is still being widely watched.
But then I’m also in conflict because at-least TLP is FINALLY released but it’s so hard to avoid spoilers because it’s everywhere and I can’t watch it yet. Am I the only one whose a little annoyed by this all?
Poor TLP, it just can't catch a break from fans! It's not coming fast enough, it was dropped too fast! 😅
I was hoping there would be a bit more of a delay before it was released, because I'm still working on The Youth Memories, but ultimately it doesn't matter. I'm not one of those people who feels like I have to catch something as it is airing, when everyone else is watching it. If anything, I prefer to view things on my own timeline.
Spoilers aren't all that difficult to avoid. I have The Longest Promise filtered on Tumblr, and I skip past any posts I see about it on other platforms. This is something I'm really used to doing because I almost never watch something while it's airing. I did this with The Youth Memories, I did this with Legend of Fei and Being a Hero and Ace Troops.
Variety shows are the exception to that, of course, but even then it can be hard to keep up. SDOC 3 and 4, for example, gave us hours and hours of content to keep up with every week, and if we fall behind one week that only doubles the amount we have to watch before getting caught up.
Anyway, I don't personally see release schedules as something to get too worked up about. I just watch things in my own time and on my own terms.
In C-ent it's quite common for projects to be dropped randomly out of the clear blue sky, and with no discernible strategy behind it. This happens with almost every drama project of GG and DD's. There's no point in getting upset about it, or reading anything into it. Might as well shout at the wind! 😅
