Magic Between the Moon & Sky: Rayllum Oneshot Series - A 5 Year Anniversary

Today marks the five year anniversary of MBTMS’ release. (Technically it’s tomorrow for Ao3, but FFN I posted there first). A oneshot collection that is yet to be finished, I know, but one that I treasure deeply. I may have fallen out of my love for TDP in certain elements, but the writing and what I started with in regards to Rayllum was something else.

I don’t mean to be all, “I was there when it was written” but I joined this fandom in its season one days, when it was REAL small here on Tumblr. Which meant smaller ship circles too. I’m glad to have witnessed the fandom blossom and grow, and by that extension, Rayllum itself too.

I know many of my readers probably assume I won’t be returning to MBTMS, but you’re kinda wrong. I swear I’m not one of those 100 oneshot fics that stop halfway (no fault to them of course, sometimes passion runs out)! I legitimately have more than a dozen oneshots planned out. But, I’m also biding my time. I’ve learned with fic writing, that writing what I love is just as crucial as being passionate about it. I'm not currently into TDP but I still enjoy the oneshot concepts i thought up for my fics, so I'll probably only work from those.

I mean, I can probably just grind out the last oneshots and meet the 100 quota, but they wouldn’t be good. Or maybe, they would be to some of you, but they wouldn’t be something I could be proud of. Least of all, I wouldn’t have fun writing it. So yeah, I do believe I know my limits and the extent of my creativity.

But the main reason at the end of the day, as to why I won’t drop this fic, is because it has quite literally spawned some of my best writing. “Loyalty & Light”, “The Most Undoing Thing”, my Taang oneshots, “Legends of Avatar: The Untold Story”, they’ve all had great prose that I’m proud of. Some not so much, but that’s growth.

“Magic Between the Moon & Sky” houses many different styles and concepts I could never explore with most of my fandoms. I’ve written a modern college AU grounded in the slowest of burns, I’ve written childhood AUs diving into the naivety and hilariousness of a kid's mind, and I’ve written an emotionally powerful (as readers have said) Soulmate AU even though I don’t like Soulmate AUs. And I have many more mind, but I’ve also managed to explore the canon and interpret my own ideas from before we learned anything of the lore.

Some were at the requests of fans, others were because I wanted to try and get my feet wet. Much like Callum and Rayla themselves, this fic was a great avenue for me to explore my abilities as a writer and try new things. And in the end, I’m proud of that. And I cannot wait to see what I do next.

Thank you all, for an amazing five years of patience and love. Again, no idea when I'll return to this fic but I'll get around to it.

Sylar blinked down at the strange sensation, struggling to process the even stranger sight of Peter's fingers around his. “You stayed,” the hero croaked, like the thought had only just occurred to him. His hand, a minute ago so capable and steady when saving a life, trembled slightly in Sylar's. “Thank you.” Perplexed, the killer glanced at Peter's face. Before remembering he'd been actively avoiding making such a mistake.

Stranded in the wilderness, Sylar begins to reconsider his previous stance: perhaps some heroic deeds can exist without personal gain?

A new page of my sketchbook ! I love, really really much Advance Wars :O But I feel sooooo alone xD

I think my favourite characters are probably Lash and Hawke for the bad guys side and Sami, Andy, Grit and Eagle on the other side :) (Even if Lash and Hawke aren't that bad, I know !)

So, with some details, we have :

Lash, or Kat in french, and for you who don't speak french, there is the translation :)

I love her, she's kind of psycho but... I think I don't care xD

After her, our favourite dark bad guy, Hawke ! (Or Maverik in french. I know, this name sucks a bit, but I'm used to it so I think I like it tho !)

I also drew Nell and Rachel, as the picture from Rachel's desk :) I like their relationship, they're a very cool duo ! Plus, they're cute ^^

Finally, there is Kindle, or Candy in french, our famous diva xD The little translation :

Yeah, I know, she's still the same bitch, but I think I like her xD How strange !

“Watch out for the cars...”

Imagine that said in a low, creepy purr, and you’re spot on.

Okay, so I wasn’t gonna reveal this AU quite yet, but I can’t get it outta my head.

Yup, that’s Infinite the Jackal decked out with cyber dreads (and a new outfit because reasons.) He’s fun to draw like this. Like... I kinda can’t stop. I’ve not yet shared my first attempt, after he showed up in my head in all this flamboyance. Actually BOUGHT himself into this AU, given I wasn’t originally gonna put him in it.

(The cheek... At least he also brought a ton of lore along for the ride...)

Anyway, I’m not gonna explain the scene =P I’m mean like that. Y’all will have to wait and see if anything actually comes from this.

Time taken - about six hours *she says, sobbing into a bucket* (And that doesn’t include my previous hand-drawn attempt. The digital version was done because flat colours are nicer and I can’t draw straight lines freehand to save my life.) For those who’ve noticed it and are waiting for me to clarify (or those just curious) the art style is heavily inspired by Kagerou Project.

I’m not entirely that sure I’m happy with the sidewalk, but I’ma leave it like that anyway. The background isn’t meant to be three dimensional.

Yes, he totally would go to the karaoke bar. It’s already been asked of me XD (Amy would probably protest. She doesn’t look all that comfortable as it is.)

Not sure whether to post this on the Sonic Amino yet as I don’t wanna disrupt my MBtM chapter flow >.< Decisions... Too tired to compute... Should probably finally sleep...

Update:

I am proud to announce that "Loyalty & Light" now has a date of return! Yeaaaah! That's right, we're back in business... soon. heh. Hopefully, now having a date will tide you all over.

Meanwhile, “The Most Undoing Thing” is well on its way and will follow a more sporadic update format. Meaning, it probably won’t be as frequent as y’all would like. If you still haven’t heard, TMUT is going to 20 chapters so we’ve got three left! Wooo!

But now, it's time to promote what else I got in the works:

Arcane/Legends of Runeterra, Mama Jinx future AU, multi-chapter story (Title: “The Most Undoing Thing”). Returns August 9th, uploads (somewhat) monthly basis.

The Owl House, Lealtad Noceda big sister/beta sister AU, multi-chapter story (Title: “Loyalty & Light”). Returns August 2nd, uploads biweekly basis.

The Owl House & The Ghost and Molly McGee crossover, crossover AU, multi-chapter story (Title: “The Light and Molly McGee”). Work in Progress. (not coming anytime soon).

The Walking Dead (TV series) & Telltale's The Walking Dead (game) crossover, crossover AU, Violetine, Rick meets Clem, multi-chapter story (Title: "The After"). Work in Progress (not coming anytime soon).

The Dragon Prince, Rayllum oneshot collection, multi-AU & canon compliant stories (Title: “Magic Between the Moon & Sky”). Still on hiatus! I've yet to actually even watch season 4! But it'll be back eventually!

Halloween Fics! It's early to promote now, but by October I have three oneshots of three different fandoms planned! All Halloween themed and with ships!

So yeah, we getting busy folks! I would like to lead with that though there are schedules in place, these are subject to change in events of burnout, personal matters, or just inconveniences like tech issues. Or there may be random fics that pop up that weren't listed but I just made for the Hell of it. Keeping up with the fic tags---which is usually the fic name plus "update" at the end---is the best way to stay up to date on my fic series/multi-chapter stories.

I should state for the record, I will be returning to university this coming Fall and working part-time more. I'm going to be more busy of course, but I swear I’m doing my best to make sure I'm not overwhelmed! ᕦ( ò_ó)ᕤ

As always, if you're curious about these WIP fics I have in store, don't be afraid to ask about 'em! I'm always down to answer asks ( ^‿^).

[Rage.]

[Rage drives many a thing - many wrong, but a good many right as well.]

[In this case... rage leads to mutual destruction.]

[Walking amongst the newly-wrecked No Bot's Land, one ['07!] Optimus Prime looks around at the destruction in despair and victory. On one hand, he finally defeated the Decepticons, once and for all. On the other, a rare few Autobots remain - him among them. His actions have led to this monument of death emerging from the deepest darkest depths of his nightmares.]

[Optimus finds a severed head, the base of the neck scorched by a gunshot. A rocket trooper. Thrown to the afterlife as soon as he was into the war. He keeps the head in a pocket.]

[Then... he hears a roaring engine, faintly in the distance. A disturbing scream of metal, seemingly running on vengeance, a stark contrast to the quiet fury of the flames and creaking metal around Optimus.]

[The engine only grows louder. Optimus unsheathes an armblade, expecting trouble in some sort.]

[Trouble comes flying at Optimus, in the form of someone he'd thought he'd destroyed the willpower of back when he fired a nuke down south. A Decepticon, no doubt, fuelled by pure hatred. Hatred for the Autobots. Hatred for Optimus Prime. Hatred in its most vile, sadistic form.]

[Bonecrusher.]

[Optimus parries the oncoming beast into a wrecked building, but it only rebounds off of the wall, back at him. Optimus once again parries it into a car.]

[The beast sits up, unsheathing a sword of its own. Optimus can feel the presence of the sword, stained with Energon from countless victims. Autobot, Decepticon, it didn't matter to the blade. It was simply hungry.]

[The cannibal wielding it was starved of vengeance for too long.]

Optimus: ...So. You're here to kill me off, permanently. But are you going to savor it?

[It only growls at him, intending to shove the sword deep into Optimus' bones. He only barely has the reaction time to parry it away at the last second, forgetting about the claw on the back of the beast, of which bites deep into his upper back and pinning him to the ground.]

[Optimus writhes against the ground. He cannot get his arms far back enough to attack Bonecrusher.]

Bonecrusher: they say that you're the good guys. what 'good guy' lies to their soldiers - to the civilians they claim to protect - by performing whatever monstrosity the day called for next?

Optimus: S-so... you do speak! [He attempts to laugh, to mock Bonecrusher, but the beast simply responds by stomping on his head.]

Bonecrusher: you ruined countless lives. so many cybertronians, meatbags, and more fell to your blade and your war machine. you ruined relationships, purely for the purpose of victory. the other optimi aren't like you, prime. you let your trauma and ptsd turn you into a sadistic killer. a blood knight for the sole purpose of brutally annihilating your enemies.

Optimus: Who are you t-to speak of people being monsters? Hmm?

Bonecrusher: i do not intend to seem a hypocrite. i only seek to have you feel the suffering you enacted upon your own race. upon my team... my gang.

Optimus: Ohh... is this about the nuclear strike?

[bonecrusher only responds with pinning optimus to the floor with his sword, instead of his claw.]

Bonecrusher: you do not deserve a warrior's death. you deserve a slow, torturous demise only worthy of you.

[a beat.]

Bonecrusher: i bet you taste terrible when undercooked.

Optimus: ...What?

[bonecrusher walks over to the wrecked building optimus parried him into. he sees that only one pillar carries the weight of the building, and that its center of mass hangs over optimus. with vigor, he topples the pillar, rolls over to optimus, yanks his sword out, and runs out of the way of the collapsing building.]

[of course, optimus was crushed and - to bonecrusher's plan - burned alive. bonecrusher waits in the meantime.]

[a voice in bonecrusher's head speaks to him.]

?: you know, you could've fought him one on one.

BC: i don't care.

[another pipes up.]

??: so you... want us to watch you eat a cooked corpse?

BC: exactly. i got hungry from the rage.

?: ...yeah, okay. that tracks with what we've seen of you earlier. that one body though... yech.

BC: don't judge me. you're the ones constantly asking for blood. it's only fair that i grab something for myself along the way.

[bonecrusher sits upon the pile of concrete, listening to optimus' screams and arguing with the voices in his head.]
