Y'all, a childhood memory just popped into my head. Days at school, when we'd be trooped down to the all-purpose room in our tiny little school to watch an educational film with none other than...
Slim Goodbody.
Mr. Slim Goodbody, folks. I can't remember what he would try to teach us (body stuff, health stuff, etc.), but I sure do remember that hair and that unitard.
I honestly cannot remember if I have posted this here already or not but the light was catching it really well so if I have, have another.
This was done by my neighbor in the house I grew up in. Her family gave away the art she had done before they took her back to Japan, and one of my family members got this for me as a gift.
It’s so beautiful, and apparently it was also one of the few paintings she had like this. Most were based on her experience in living in Hiroshima after the bomb dropped. In that context, it’s always felt even more precious.
anyone else having to go through fhjy at a snail's pace bc every time there's a teacher-student interaction (even the positive ones!) you want to set something on fire because of how much you hate high school and american academic culture and it throws you back to the Bad Old Days of actually being in high school, but also you really like fantasy high and you really like the characters and their story and the players and the way they're exploring & critiquing the US school system and basically everything about the show but actually watching it makes your brain explode?
I unfortunately can't find the poll about locaring the US-States, but it inspired me to do a poll about locating countries in the EU. We never had to learn the US states (obviously, I guess), but we did have to learn the countries at some point, so I'm really curious.
Take this Quiz to test how fast/correctly you can locate countries in the EU.
disclaimer: this is a first attempt test with no prep, so if you do poorly, don't feel bad. I find this site is a very helpful tool when it comes to learning where countries in general (or US states) are located, and if you're interested in it, you'll get better in no time! I promise! :) Knowing where certain countries are located makes it a lot easier to understand historical events, cultural influences and contemporary politics, which makes it useful and fun. This isn't a marker for intelligence and this poll isn't intended to be condescending or mean-spirited.
R.I.P. Astrud Gilberto, March 29, 1940 - June 5, 2023. Seen here, performing "The Girl from Ipanema" in 1964 with Stan Getz on tenor sax, Gary Burton on vibraphone, Gene Cherico on bass, and Joe Hunt on drums.
The American political memory is truly so incredibly short. Remember when John McCain single-handedly stopped Republicans from taking healthcare away from millions of people? Like, how we literally were *one* vote away from there being no government healthcare at all, a decision that inevitably would have been upheld by their conservative Supreme Court? Remember how they tried to do this within a year of taking office, back in 2017? Remember how John McCain is dead now? No one is coming to save us this time. Vote.org
💪Vargas: Keep doing those sit-ups! Don't stop until you hit 60!
❤️Ace: (slowly doing sit-ups) Ughh! I can't believe we pulled detention with Coach Vargas of all people.
♦️Cater: (out of breath) This is all your fault, Ace.
❤️Ace: Wha-?! Me?? How is this my fault?
♦️Cater: It was YOUR idea to add technomantic boosters to our brooms so that we could fly faster. And look where that landed you! You even managed to get me and Idia dragged into detention alongside you!
💀Idia: (waits for Vargas to look away then does one sit-up) …aaand 60! Phew! All done with my sit-ups!
💀Idia: (laughs nervously) H-hey, uh, am I capped now? There's no reason for me to keep working, right?
♦️Cater: …..
❤️Ace: (raises an eyebrow) You sure you didn't miss a few sit-ups there?
💀Idia: ….. (hands Ace a couple of thaumarks)
❤️Ace: (pockets the money) OH WOW~! GREAT JOB FINISHING YOUR 60 SIT-UPS SO QUICKLY, IDIA! YOU'RE AMAZING~!
Projecting my own teen experiences onto the kiddads bc I’m out of the house rn and I think it’s funny
Terry: took a parenting class in 12th grade and on the first night of his culminative assignment he ended up crying, naked wrapped in a towel, on the bathroom floor after the robot baby interrupted him pre-shower.
Lark: left for school in the morning then walked around for two blocks before heading back home, after his parents went to work. Snuck in through his bedroom window on more than one occasion, when either parent stayed home. Did this for a week straight.
Sparrow: got clocked as aspec before he even realized while out at a cafe during lunch with Rebecca, but she told him she didn’t mind because she’s good with her hands and can just think about him??
Grant: while on a date w/ his high school boyfriend at the fair, his boyfriend’s mother tracked him down just to argue with him. Grant attempted to slip away to offer some privacy but his boyfriend kept an iron grip on his hand, so he spent the next several minutes awkwardly turned away from the argument.
Nick: during an orthodontist appointment, was recommended to install metal springs because he kept forgetting to wear his elastics. Without even discussing it, Jodie gave the okay for the springs but the smallest size available were too big - therefore not installed - and Nick refused to speak to Jodie for the rest of the day.
