Reader’s Corner: Unnamed Memory, So What’s Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin, and Rainbow Days
Are you using the holidays to catch up? We’re doing a bit of the same here, with just a scattering of new entries this week and mostly reviews of other fairly recent releases. And here’s a tip: A number of our reviewed volumes this week are on sale! Click the images to follow our affiliate links to that big ol’ book (and everything else) retailer. Happy reading!
The Eminence in Shadow (Vol. 5) • The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Vol. 5) • Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc (Vol. 3) • Rainbow Days (Vol. 1) • So What’s Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? (Vol. 1) • Unnamed Memory (Vol. 1)
The Executioner and Her Way of Life, Light Novel Vol. 5
“Saving a friend is well worth destroying the world”—a complicated statement that is central to the theme of The Executioner and Her Way of Life (vol. 5), and to the entire story thus far. Through four volumes, Menou has struggled with her sense of duty and a growing heart for Akari, the otherworlder who is in love with her, but whom it is her job to kill. As volume five begins, Menou has embraced her friendship with the girl, and out of that love desires to kill her friend before she becomes a “human error,” an otherworlder who has lost all her memories and turned into a being with enough power to destroy a continent. But first, Menou must battle her old master, Flare, who has captured Akari. That fight, and many others, comprise the bulk of this volume, which reaches deeper into the relationships at the core of the series than in previous ones. This volume thus improves a light novel series that has been on a slow decline since its inception. While The Executioner and Her Way of Life has always excelled when it focuses on the action, making great use of its unique magic system and setting a tone that is often grave, there is a disconcerting trend that continues in volume five: characters never really die (or at least don’t stay dead). That device drains the series of much of its excitement. On the other hand, the total lack of chemistry between characters and flat relationship-building, while remaining in the first half of the book, starts to finally disappear near the climax of this volume. Yes, the characters remain obnoxious (Momo), boring (Menou), or both (Ashuna); but interesting reveals and serious character growth, which compliment the relationship development between characters, add a critical element that’s been missing for these many volumes. If Mato Sato can continue to improve his characterization while making deaths and injuries more permanent (people die if they are killed!), he may finally meet the promise of a series that started so strong. Volume five is the best the series has offered—and hopefully a harbinger of even greater (and more devastating) things to come. ~ @animepopheart

So What’s Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin?, Manga Vol.1
Akira Yagami is a skilled office worker who goes the extra mile for everyone—from his slackadaisical intern, to the little boy about to be run over by Truck-kun. That’s how he ends up lying in a pool of his own blood on the asphalt making two final wishes: that he could have lived his full four-score years, and that he could have passed on the skills he’d acquired to his junior, who happened to be at the scene of the accident. Cosmic Google intercedes and locates a world where those two wishes can be granted! And before you know it, Akira is a goblin with the Unique Skill of Octogenarian. Which is a big deal since goblins only live for seven days. Akira’s management skills, strategic planning, and acquisition of many more skills, paired with his longevity, soon see him becoming the mayor of the goblins and venturing out into the wider world to negotiate deals with humans. The way he lays the foundation for an essentially feudal, trades-based society is interesting and, alongside the vibrant art, serves as the highlight of this introductory volume. So in answer to the title, well, Akira manages to avert the one thing that is wrong with getting reborn as a goblin—the hebdomadal death sentence (new word alert! that’s fancy for “week”). So nothing much is wrong there. But what about the volume itself? What is “wrong” with So What’s Wrong…? First off, the titular goblin is blue, whereas everyone knows goblins to be green. Translation error? Maybe. Second, every chapter reiterates at least a handful of times a) how virile goblins are and b) how cute humans find them to be. Ok, ok, so Akira’s goblin form is admittedly cute, but talk about heavy-handed foreshadowing here! A lengthy visit to a brothel confirms these suspicions, though the perviness of this sequence is mostly displaced onto an old man character rather than attributed to Akira himself. All in all, there wasn’t enough intrigue here to keep me hooked—but then, I’m not super into goblins, even if they are irresistibly cute. ~ claire

The Eminence in Shadow, Manga Vol. 5
Meanwhile, while sitting atop a “needlessly tall building in Midgar…” Yep, the humor has finally returned! After so much seriousness for the last volume and a half, The Eminence in Shadow manga wraps up its mini-arc involving Aurora the Calamity Witch and returns to what it does best (and what it does better than virtually every other isekai)—dwelling in humor and ramping up the laughs. To accomplish that, the story transitions from a surprisingly heartfelt conclusion for Aurora’s arc to the Bushin Festival (the second in the series so far, though who’s keeping count?), where Cid will enter disguised as a weak fighter to live out yet another manga trope. And in between, the manga addresses a weakness that apparently isn’t present in the original light novels: lack of character development for the Shadow Garden members. With that now covered, could this be the rare manga adaptation that surpasses the light novels? By maximizing the comedic potential and minimizing the less compelling parts of the story, I can’t see how the answer isn’t “Absolutely!”~ Twwk

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc, Manga Vol. 3
When given the task of writing an “interquel” between two anime (the original Puella Magi Madoka television series and the Rebellion Story movie) that are already complicated, and creating a new arc that makes some sense, it’s just natural that you end up with a tale that is itself overly complex. And unfortunately, that’s the case with Wraith Arc. After some pretty thrilling action in the first half featuring Mami and Kyoko fighting against wraiths that resemble them and their friends, as well as other powerful ones that are killing people, a long, soporific section explains what Homura has been feeling, why she’s forgotten so much, and what she ultimately decides to do in order to “protect” Madoka. Yawn. That said, this does feel like more than a simple cash grab. I do believe it’s canonical (help, Madokaverse fandom?) and has value as an explanation of what occurred between the two referenced works. It also features majestic art by Hanokage, who illustrated a number of the spin-off manga. The visuals are breathtaking and on-par with the anime series and movies. Many of the panels are beautiful pieces independent from their relation to the story, stunning additions to the PMMM franchise. And so I’m very glad to have looked at this volume and the previous two, though I think only the most dedicated fans will be glad to have actually read it. ~ @animepopheart

Rainbow Days, Manga Vol. 1
The best way to get over being dumped by your girlfriend on Christmas Eve is to fall in love with Santa. I’m serious. Especially when this Santa knows what you really want (tissues to dry those eyes) and she’s both beautiful and kind. Too bad that this Santa may or may not remember meeting you on the 24th (it was a busy night after all). Thus begins Natsuki’s journey toward confessing his love for Anna, who—whether by coincidence or fate—was passing out sample products on Christmas Eve, including right to the newly love-stricken boy. Though their burgeoning relationship is certainly cute, Rainbow Days works because of the friendship between Natsuki and his three guy friends, who are by varying degrees more “mature” than he is—which basically means they act more like typical teenage boys than the naive and sincere Natsuki does. Minami Nizuno does a fabulous job of keeping an innocent, cute, laugh-out-loud vibe while featuring teenagers who are thinking and often talking about adult topics. I laughed throughout and enjoyed the entirety of volume one, and was reminded why I similarly delighted in the anime version from several years ago, though the manga is more engaging than that adaptation. It’s a quicker, sharper romcom work. What this volume does less well, though, is presenting one character as gay while obviously meaning for that individual to go on a journey toward falling for someone of the opposite sex. This small side story (which will almost certainly grow in prominence in future volumes) didn’t necessarily bother me, but I imagine many will find it in poor taste if not outright offensive. That aside, the volume rings with charm, warmth, and a calming tone, and since I don’t remember the anime too well, I’m eager to “discover” how the stories between the boys and their matches work out. Oh, and extra points for a mangaka friend in the series referencing Oreimo, and then shortly afterward making his Valentine’s Day chocolate into the shape of a Gundam because his girlfriend “loves the principality of Geon.” What a nerdy, lovely good time! ~ @animepopheart
Rainbow Days is published by VIZ Media and releases on December 6th.
Unnamed Memory, Manga Vol. 1
It’s exceedingly rare for a manga to hit that apex of strong romance, humor, and fantasy adventure, but volume one of Unnamed Memory manages to do so. Adapted from the light novel series, the manga immediately captivates by creating a mysterious and ominous backstory focusing on five witches and setting the initial action in the tower where one dwells. But this where cuteness and romance develops, as the Witch of the Azure Moon is quite pretty and kind, and agrees to accompany a prince back to his kingdom, though he’s insistent on more than that, asking her to marry him! But before the romance goes full blown, a murder occurs during a festival, and the witch becomes the leading suspect. I don’t actually do justice to the tone of work through this summary, as its moves deftly between kawaiiness and macabre, and is able to do so successfully while pulling readers in through the charm of its leads. I’m very eager to continue the tale where it takes us—into legend, romance, or humor (and likely all of the above). ~ @animepopheart

(3rd person POV)
Welp, there it went. The end of your life.
Just like that.
A strange way to begin, but thats what happens in the tragidy that is your life.
You were graduating, finally, after years of being a student, you could walk out of this building and live.
Well... Your classmates would. But you just so happned to get the short end of the stick.
You were simply walking down a hall, when some... pshycothic man pushed you out of the open window.
Sending you pummeling down three stories.
The last things you heard were some disgusting cracks and screams... just screams.
Embracing the sudden coldness of the world, you felt life leaving you.
'Wish I'd have landed on my feet for once in my damm life... Maybe feel loved for once...' Your last toughts echo trough your head, a thumping pain in your cracked skull.
And then it all just fades.
Thats it, the end of Y/N L/N.
Missed by many, but never got far in life.
--------
A fresh breath of air enters your lungs.
You shock awake, laying on a warm grassy field. The green blades carresing your skin as the wind moves them.
The sun shines brilliantly above you, almost blinding you as you flutter your (e/c) eyes open.
'What in the fuck-knuckles is this bright nonsense?' You squeeze your eyes shut once more and groan in displeasure. This was not what you wanted to see in death.
You once again open your eyes, feeling a bit light sensetive at the moment. But you hold your hand to your forehead, blocking out the suns harsh rays.
After a moment of adjusting to the new lighting, you take your hand away and look around.
Big grass field... Surrounded by forest. Huh, what a strange afterlife.
You take another breath of fresh air, crisp... crisp air. No pollution noticable.
'Yea... Now hold up a minute.' You talk to yourself in your head, standing up and looking at your hands. No blood, no rocks or dirt.
Yea, somethings wrong here.
Especially that elongated feeling in your tailbone. Weird.... thats new-
Oh my god its a tail!?
You screech in confusion and grab the fuzzy thing. Slender but long, standing to make sure you keep balance. No no no! The afterlife turned you into a cat(girl/boy/YN)! A damm furry!
Some birds hiding in the grass fly away at your noise, some almost touching the top of your head.
If you had a tail then... oh no..
Your hands quickly reach for your head. And yep, two cat ears. Actually, biologically, on your head. You even felt them twitch in your hands.
After cringing for a good two minutes you calmed down and just accepted fate. It could have been worse, you could have been a worm.
So... what to do now? You couldn't just stay on this random grass field for the rest of your afterlife...
Or maybe thats what you've been sentenced to, grassfield duty.
Were they expecting you to chomp grass like a cow? Who knows... Where are the instructions? You would like to read them.
But no instructions came... reminds you of school projects...
You sigh and begin walking... towards... well, forwards. Where does this go? Into that forest? Yes.
But what else were you supposed to do. Wait around like a dumbass. No thanks.
So there you went, walking trough the thick grass towards the even thicker forest.
Birds greeted you with chirps as you entered the foliage. Forest greens filled your vision as you stepped trough a bush. Getting little unnoticable cuts on your exposed legs.
But.. It was peacefull. Birds, insects. The noises of nature really made this place feel real. was this even the afterlife?
A vision maybe?
Or... were you reborn?
How silly would that be-
"Watch out!" Some loud shrill voice alerts you of a quickly incoming troll or something on a.. on a wolf.
You jump aside and the wolf rider passes you.
He brings the wolf to a stop and hops off, walking back towards you. Ah, not a troll, this looks like a goblin, if you can trust those movies you've seen.
"Hey?" You wave awkardly. The shorter goblin smiles brightly with his two tusk like teeth.
"Hey! I haven't seen you before! Are you an adventurer?" The goblin asks exitdely.
"Not.. really. i'm a bit lost. Where is this?" You ask, it feels as if your voice has barely seen use. As if its all new. As if this body is new.
Maybe it is.
"You don't know where you are? Well, you're in the Jura forest right now. I'm from Rimuru City, I can take you there, maybe you'll be able to orient from there?" The little goblin offers you with a friendly smile.
You nod, not that cautious as you should have been were this your old life. YOLO, am i right?
The goblin helps you onto his giant wolf and you hold on, like asked. The big canine speeds off trough the forest and you feel alive for once, wind in your face, cutting against your face like sharp yet harmless blades.
After a bit of running around on the wolf, you reach a nice looking medival village, lots of fantasy looking monsters running around, building things and working.
Well damm... This looks better managed then soceity.
The goblin that lead you here looks behind him to check up on you, to see if youre still on the wolf before enetering the crowd and bringing you somewhere.
He brings you all the way to what seems to be the towns centre. Gesturing for you to hop off here.
You hesitantly nod, awkardly smiling at the goblin as a form of thanks.
Welp, now you were in a random city, full of magical looking monsters and whatnot.
You hear the magical residents go about their day, smells of foods, contruction and just random things fill your weirdly sensetive nose.
Just as you were about to enter the building in front of you, as it looked like a town hall, you felt a squishy thing bump against your leg.
You look down, eyes widening at this small, light blue slime. Tapping your leg for attention.
"Uh... Can I help you?" You ask it in confusion, not reallu expecting it to react.
"Yes! You're new, aren't you? I'm Rimuru! Welcome to my city!" The blue slime speaks. It speaks!
"I.. yes? My name's Y/N." You awkardly repsond to the talking slime- Rimuru. What wonders does this world have in store for you?
"Great! I'll show you around!" Rimuru speaks in an exited manner... but he doesn't have a mouth... Telepathy, maybe?
Whatever. That day, Rimuru showed you around his city full of fantasy folk. Introducing you to all kinds of people, some of his trusted compagnions and whatnot.
But thats... how you ended up like this...
----------------
"Y/N. You can't go. Whats wrong with the village? We can give you everything!" Benimaru protests as he catches the arm holding your bag. The tall kijin holds onto you desparatly.
After three months of living in this village, you got to know pretty much everyone. And let's just say, they really like 'the cute demi-cat'.
Wich is why, when you planned to finally go explore some more of this weird world. You got met with a lot of complaints.
They've already set up guards by the city exits, you've been monitored for the past two days and now Benimaru was here to personally stop you.
"Let go, I just want to explore." You sigh, done with this weird protection you're receiving.
"No can do orders from the boss... that I absoluty agree with. You aren't ready for the rest of this world." The kijin repeats those lame words. He's grinning like always, just happy to be able to hold you.
Your ears flatten on your head and he 'awws'. How agitating.
"Come on, just stay and let me pet you!" The red kijin coees and sets you back down in your house. A babyproofed house.
Wich was annoying as hell! You didn't even get a knife sharp enough to cut the crust off your bread!
Benimaru takes the liberty of ruffling your hair. He's what you'd call... a big brother. Only diffrence, is that this one doesn't let you do stupid things.
But he wasn't the worst.... You'd say Rimuru was the most peacefull.. But Shuna was determined to get you to marry her.... And Gabiru had the idea that you were his bestest friend ever.
Wich is a reason to why you weren't allowed to leave. The people in the city got too attached to you. Maybe they found you friendly?
But whatever the reason, you wanted out. They didn't let you do anything dangerous! Wich sounds stupid but you wnated to go explore too!
As if sensing your toughts, Benimaru grabbed yoy into a bear hug, his form engulfs you, you're barely visible. He loves it like this.
"Let go." You demand, voice muffled by his sleeves.
"No." He smiles down at you, nuzzeling his head into your hair.
You huff in annoyance. All this attention was nice... for a week. But it's as if they never, ever got bored of you.
It seemed impossible in your head. No-one takes intrest in you for this long.
Yet these fantasy people did. And it was weird. Like they had it all planned out.
Wich they did, but you didn't know of the plan. Wich Rimuru vowed to keep that way. He knew of the dangers of the world, and you weren't ready.
Better off with him and his friends.
You get snapped out of your toughts by the door of your house opening, speak of the devil. Rimuru. In his human form, today.
"Y/N! I see you've changed your mind yes?" He smiles at you, the... well... you still didn't figure out his gender... but since he said he used to be a man.. in his past life.. you just rolled with that because They/them takes longer to write.
"No, I'm just.... being blocked, at the moment." You speak from between Benimaru's arms as he doens't plan to let go any time soon.
"Well thats a shame. Don't you like it here?" Rimuru asks with a pout. Golden eyes looking straight at you.
"I do, i just want to see more." You asnwer what you always do. But ofcourse he just shakes his head.
"You're not going to." Rimuru answers back, a dark tone to his voice for the first time since you met him.
You try to protest but Benimaru clasps a hand over your mouth to stop it.
You lick his hand but he doesnt relent. Rimuru chuckles at your annoyed expression.
"Don't try. Y/N, if you don't stay willingly... You'd make a lot of my friends sad." Rimuru speaks in a belitteling tone. walking up to you and petting your head dismissivly.
You let out muffled sounds of protests, squirming against Benimarus limbs as hes holding you down.
"Fine then, we'll lock your house down from now on. Is this what you wanted?" Rimuru snarkily tilted his head. You didn't recognise him like this. He's always been so friendly. But now, with those scary dulled eyes on the cutesy face... he's just offputting.
You made your protests known by a harsh glare. But he just smiled. You were really getting pissed off! You were an adult for god sake! No matter these cat features! This was dehumanizing!
Rimuru left, taking Benimaru with him. You heard the lock click into place. The windows had never been able to open... so..
But what they didn't know, was that you were a great lockpicker. Being bored in middle school was bound to pay off at some point!
So when it got dark out, and all these annoyances went to bed. You took that little metal hairclip and got to work. These fantasy people didn't know how to make complicated locks. So it wasn't that hard.
And bam, door open, Y/N free!
So you just sneak out of your house, taking some food with you, along with the non cutesy clothes they've provided you with.
Atleast being half cat gave you great stealth. No-one would hear you.
So you left Rimuru city. Into Jura forest and just... Wherever you wanted to go.
Ofcourse, you had been thankfull for their hospitality for a while, You mean, modern soceity would have let you rot on the streets. But still, locking someone in a house? Crazy.
The leaves crunched under your feet and you were getting paranoid that you'd leave a trail for them to find.
You sped up your pace, hoping to find somewhere else to hide. A cave maybe? A difrent city?
But no, you ended up meeting monsters. Lots of them. They chased you down, tired you out. You felt like real prey for once.
You hid in a tree and stared at these savage beasts as they kept patrolling under the tree. You couldn't get out. Trapped once again. But not as comfrotable.
But not for long. As morning broke out, the warm rays hitting your cold face after a night out in the tree, you heard sniffing.
And it wasn't from the monsters.
Before you knew it, they were all torn to shred by Ranga, Rimuru's wolf compagnion. Shit! He tracked you down!
Rimuru was on his back, in slime form. He devoured the tree you were in and turned human just to catch you in a ridiculously tight grip.
He seemed mad, stressed. Not a word was exchanged as he set you on Ranga and rode back to the city. Harsh grip around your waist.
"Y/N. You. Don't. Get. To. Leave." Rimuru whispered to you as you arrived back at the village.
You expected him to throw you back into your house but he too kyou to his living quarters instead.
Tugging you along to one of the many rooms. Opening a wooden door, the overpowered slime set you on the soft bed and clicked some magic restraints to your wrists.
"This is your own fault. Ok?" Rimuru spoke darkly.
"You'll marry Shuna and Souei. You'll stay put and let us ake care of you. You hear me? This world is dangerous, and you weren't granted powers like I was." Rimuru explains with a serious face. He wanted you to marry two kijins!? Two?! Whatn to tie you to this place?
"I'm not getting married-" You started but he shut your mouth.
"You are. They keep whining about it and why not? You deserve some love, don't you think so?" He grins. You were genuinly scared of the slime at this point. This sounded way too creepy.
"You wouldn't want Gabiru to miss his best friend, would you? Or Benimaru to miss his adorable little sibling? Don't you get how dear yo uare to everyone?" Rimuru carresses you cheek softly. What kind of manipulation is this bitch pulling on you?
But you were afraid of talking back. This boy could pulvorize you ten times over.
So you reluctantly nod. Maybe... Maybe you could get used to living here? Its not like they hurt you...
Rimuru immeadiatly turned bubbly and cute again as you nod. Smiling brightly and patting your head before he leaves again.
The door clicks to a locked state and you slowly pann your gaze over to your cuffed wrists. They glow in the sunlight coming from the thick looking window.
'What the hell just happned?' You deadpann at the floor, needing a moment to register what just got decided for you.
You'd be stuck with these crazy sicko's forever!
A nightmare, really, being taken care off and loved. ew, who would like that-
Wait a minute.
Now hold up.
Well it may have been nice if you liked being stuck in a room. But nu uh. You were an adventurous cat!
The universe granted you a second life and you weren't going to waste it in the position of a docile house husband/wife!
But... You never got your adventure. Married off to two Kijin.
Intertwined with all these people you had grown to know.
If only they had liked you... a normal amount.
Then you could have lived a seconds life.
This could barely be called that.
This was.... The life of a doll. It had to be. Put on display and loved by all, owned by all.
Thats what you'd always be.
A cute cat, to be cuddled and coddled.
Nothing else...

Reborn in BG3: Chapter 2
You're reborn into BG3 with only the memory of your past life. Now you're Tav's companion on his journey, and must learn about yourself as much as your new reality.
Chapter 2: Now that all the companions are gathered it's time to move on to the druid's grove.
Link to AO3
A/N: Thank you to everyone giving part one love! <3 The more I write this the more I fall in love with my own Tav lol.
Lae’zel was just as arrogant when rescued as she was in the game, but surprisingly she was the one to suggest ditching a couple of party members.  It’s too conspicuous to travel with so many, so Tav made the decision to send two on to make camp nearby.  And of all the people to send, he sent away Shadowheart and Gale.  They each questioned the decision but headed off soon enough.
You wonder why he chose to keep you, clearly the weakest link.  You wonder those thoughts aloud when you approach the Emerald Grove and hear Aradin demanding entry, and the goblin assault begins.
“Hardly the time for those questions,” Astarion answers.
“Just stay back,” Tav warns.  “And get your dagger out.”
You stand atop the small hill across from the gate, two goblins on the stair-like cliffside and climbing up, while Tav and Lae’zel jump down to help those at the gate.  Astarion has his bow drawn and sends an arrow to the closest goblin’s face—it goes down with a heavy thud, body tumbling into the other one knocking him down long enough for the vampire to pull out a dagger and start stabbing.
You do as Tav says and pull your own dagger from your boot..  What once felt large in your hand now seems incomparably small when facing a group of goblins.
And there’s no turns here.  The goblins aren’t about to wait patiently for you to stick your blade into them.  The fray is nothing but chaos until a young man in a red coat jumps down from the top of the gate, rapier in hand.  That stills the goblins enough for you to make sense of some of the battle.
Tav and Aradin have taken down two goblins themselves while Lae’zel thrusts her sword into the bugbears chest—another two goblins are felled by Astarion and the female archer, and then the last of them are taken out by Wyll’s Arms of Hadar.  The green and black tendrils erupt from the ground, draining the nearest creatures of life before fading back into the dirt.  All the while you stood behind Astarion holding the tiniest dagger known to Faerun.
You take careful steps to the edge of the cliff, avoiding any spilled blood, and look at the carnage below.  Astarion moves up to the ledge below where you stand, saying something that sounds like “good to have you in the group” but you don’t pay him any mind.  There’s too much blood rushing in your ears to hear his snark, and that phantom limb has grown friends as it reaches towards the dead that surround you.
Take, something whispers, take what is yours.
Take take take take!
It repeats in your mind as the body nearest you twitches, legs twisting as if alive but stills as soon as Astarion pulls the arrow from its face.  The squelch of sputtering blood is enough to draw you from your trance, facing Astarion.
“What did you say?”  Your voice is barely above a whisper.
“A sheltered one, aren’t you?” he asks.  He thinks you’re scared of the bodies, the violence.  You nod, because he’s not technically wrong.  Those limbs retract and that little voice that demanded something of you vanishes.  Let them all think you’re scared of the blood, because that’s what the trill in your chest was, wasn’t it?  Fear.
“I’ll get used to it,” you say more to yourself than Astarion.   You stow your blade back in your boot, noticing that Tav is leaping between the goblin bodies and searching them for loot.  His tail wags in the air as he bends to scavenge each corpse, eagerness on display.
“I would have almost guessed you were excited by the way you gripped that dagger.”  Astarion holds a hand out to you.  He’s a ledge below you, waiting to help you down despite the attitude you hear in his tone.  Or maybe not attitude but…accusation?  No. That doesn’t fit him.  But neither does helping a stranger down a rocky cliff, yet there he is holding out a hand.
You stupidly stare at his pale hand, pondering its purpose.  He sighs with a roll of his eyes before he grabs your hand and tugs.  “Come along then, all the scary goblins are dead.”
You let him lead you down the cliffside, his hand actually…warm?  Well, nothing llike the heavy warmth of Tav, but still comforting as you pass the dead.  Astarion swaps holding your hand with his left rather than right as you reach the bottom, placing his now free hand on your back to guide you on the last large descent.
“There now,” he says, all fake smile and fake emotion, “safe and sound.”
His words are directed at Tav, who is still searching the last body.  Ah, he’s endearing himself to Tav.  Help the person the leader is helping, because you’re stuck with them anyway, and you’ll look better to the group overall and be less suspicious should anything unsavoury happen to them.   The memory of critically failing your rolls when he fed on your Tav comes to mind and you make a mental note to keep your dagger very close at night.
Astarion lets go of your hand once Tav deems you safe enough.  You give him a small thanks and receive that fake smile in return.  You can’t bring yourself to smile back, knowing what you know.
“Hurry inside!” a tiefling shouts from atop the gate.  Zevlor.  “Before more of them come!”
“Here,” Tav says excitedly.  He pushes his hands towards you, a staff laying gently on both palms as if this were an offering to his better.  The top of the staff is decorated with some poor creature's skull and assorted bones.  A fox, maybe?  No matter, its bones have now been shaped and tied together along the smooth wooden staff like some sort of talisman.  As you take it Tav adds, “It may not be what you’re used to, but it should help you channel your magic.”
Your brows raise—he was more perceptive than you thought a barbarian would be.  Even if he was assuming you could use magic, and were having trouble doing so.
You notice there are small clear crystals dangling from some of the stones, and two large cut pieces of amethyst within the eye sockets of the skull.  The more you look at the staff the more you see how finely it’s been crafted—hardly the work of goblins.
“Thanks,” you say.  You twirl it in your fingers, watching the crystals sparkle in the light and feeling a comforting chill fall over you.  Almost like stepping into the shade on a hot summer day.
Tav’s tail swishes back and forth at your approval.  “Let’s get inside before they change their mind.”
Inside the grove Aradin and Zevlor are already arguing.  Like with Astarion’s false cries for help, Tav is quick to move ahead and get into the thick of things.  You can hear a woman crying above the gate—Arka, mourning the loss of her brother.  You block it out as much as possible, along with the voice in your head that whispers, Take.
You watch Tav settle the argument without any fists flying, then Aradin and what’s left of his crew storms off.
Zevlor and Tav exchange a few words, but your attention is on the spaciousness of the grove itself.  It looked so small on a computer screen, but now you can appreciate the majesty of it; the smell of the forest, the way the wind comes from down in The Hollow and wraps you in a safe cocoon.  It would be so peaceful if not for the scared tieflings, and the angry druids, and of course the rats you know aren’t really rats.
“Goblin got ya?” Zevlor says to Tav with a bit of surprise.  “You should talk to Nettie—she’s not as profound as Halsin but she can take a look at you.  While you’re there maybe you could talk Kagha out of this Rite of Thorns.”
“I’ll see what I can do,” Tav replies.
“We’re messengers now?”  Astarion has no qualms complaining directly in front of the one making the desperate request.
Without thinking you give him a quick elbow to the ribs.  You hiss, “Be nice!”
Astarion is so taken aback by your assault he can only baulk at you, eyes wide.  You try to keep your face as neutral as possible while you stand next to him, ignoring his stare in your peripheral vision.  Tav snickers at your actions, and that in itself is enough to keep Astarion at bay.  You imagine a die in your mind, the big number one mocking you as you try to push away the thought of Astarion feeding on you in the dead of night.
You felt a glare directed at the back of your head as you followed Tav and Lae’zel down the hill and into The Hollow. It could be your imagination, but there was a particular weight to Astarion’s gaze whenever you looked back at him.  Still, you stood by your decision and kept your chin up.
Tav stops to talk to the three siblings, successfully convincing them to stay and help the other tieflings.  You all take the boarded path towards the back of the cave where Aradin and his crew sit, and there you spot Meli, a young tiefling refugee, about to pickpocket Barth for his mothers locket.  You wonder if you should stop him but it’s Tav that steps up and sets a hand on the boy's shoulder, surprising Meli and you.  Tav squats down and whispers something in the boy's ear—whatever it was it has Meli smiling and darting off, locket all but forgotten.
“What was that?” Barth asks, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“Just telling him he should challenge himself,” Tav answers.  He doesn’t elaborate and instead goes right into questioning the trio about Halsin.
You listen as they discuss the wizard in Baldur's Gate and the Nightsong when you feel the faintest touch at your hip.  You glance to your right to find Meli dashing off, and the weight of the bag beneath your coat gone.
“Hey!” you shout.  Meli doesn’t even turn around as he runs out of sight beyond the bend.
Astarion chuckles.
You spin towards him standing behind you, where he would have had an uninterrupted view of you getting pickpocketed.
“Really?” you question.
Astarion shrugs in response, one arm crossed over his torso while he waves his other hand up as if to say, “What can you do?”
You don’t even know what you lost but the embarrassment of being robbed, with witnesses, brings a heat to your cheeks.  Frowning, or maybe just pouting, you hurry after Meli.  At least you know where they are.
You pass by the siblings that have made their way down, past Dammon, and the two older women of which neither were human, to get to the kids’ hideout.  You wonder if Mol would be kind enough to return your things as you go over the different events that could give you her favour.
You’re ready to beg, honestly, for a look at what you lost at the very least.  For all you know your entire identity is in that bag that you haven’t had a moment to investigate. But that gets put on the back burner when you hear a woman yell, “Shut up!  Just shut up!”
“Arka, please,” a man says.  You turn to your left, spotting Arka and a male tieflings whose name escapes you in the makeshift prison.  She’s already got her crossbow aimed at the goblin Sazza.  You swear under your breath as you look back at the others, Tav still engaged in conversation with Aradin and Lae’zel talking to Remira.  The only one that watches you now is Astarion, all the other tieflings around you minding their own worries.  You bounce on your heels, unsure if you have time to get Tav before Arka takes her shot.  When you hear the goblin taunt her about losing her nerve you decide you can’t wait, and dash into the prison.
“Here it comes you little—“
There’s a lot you could do to stop Arka.  You could shout, “Stop!” or “Help!” or hit her with your new staff.  But none of that happens.  Instead you let out a puff of air that’s supposed to be words, drop the staff, and dive to stop the arrow from penetrating the goblins skull.  It works…mostly.
You see blood splash onto Sazza’s face before you feel the pain.  When you land, the collision with the ground vibrates through your body before you feel the shock of the arrow that now penetrates through your right hand.
If it wasn’t for your plush coat, you would have felt the gravel digging into your hip.  You can certainly feel it on your right thigh, the small slide along the ground enough to grind the rocks against your body.  Your right arm is bent at the elbow with your hand in the air, head down as you try to take stock of all the different things you’re feeling in that moment.
Embarrassment from being robbed, pain all along the right side of your body, a piercing burn in the palm of your hand, and more embarrassment that you didn’t just smack Arka with your staff because that is literally what it is for.
The three beings that surround you stay silent, as if they too cannot believe you just did that.  You’re lucky the arrow is thin and crudely made—a stronger one would have probably gone through your hand and into Sazza’s eye.
“Oh, my,” comes Astarion’s lilting voice, “it seems I missed the show.”
Weakly, you raise your head and turn to face him, body relaxing onto the ground.  He stands in the doorway of the prison, a finger to his lips as he grins at your valiant display of courage.  Not everyone would do what you did!  Not everyone was so reckless as to risk their life for a goblin that would kill them just for fun.  Yes…that was a special kind of stupid.  Your face burns again as Sazza laughs loudly.
“Looks like the Absolute sent me a saviour,” she says, voice scratchy and mocking.  It’s directed at you just as much as it is Arka.
Arka growls.  “Why did you do that?!”
You cough away the dust you’d been breathing in and straighten on the ground.  There are a few responses you can give, but the honest truth isn’t one of them.   You’d let her kill Sazza before, multiple times—sometimes you skipped the scene all together!  But…when it’s no longer a game something in your soul drives you to stop it.  All you’re left to do is shrug and shake your head.
Arka glares at you as you lift yourself to your feet.  You’re shaking again like when you’d first woken up, except this time there’s a clear reason why.  The arrow through your hand is forcing your body to pump out heavy doses of adrenaline, and if not for the arrow you’d probably be bleeding profusely.  It still drops down your forearm as you hold it above your waist.
“She’s a prisoner,” you finally relent, “she’s not here to be killed.  She could have useful intel on the goblin camp.”
Sazza huffs at the idea of her giving up her tribe.  You ignore the goblin and watch Arka bite her bottom lip and storm away.   The male tiefling—what the hells was his name again?— bows his head as thanks before following her.
Astarion moves out of the way to avoid any misdirected rage from Arka.  As he approaches you he says, “I see you’re one of those self-sacrificing types.”
“No, just stupid,” you reply.
A sudden puff of a laugh comes from him and when you try to meet his eyes you find him looking away from you, a smile hidden beneath one hand.  “That’s another way of putting it.”
He doesn’t come too close to you as you observe the wound.  While it hurts, it’s not as bad as you thought a piercing wound would be.  Not that you thought much about that, anyway.  You flipped your hand around, observing the wound carefully—should you just pull the arrow out?  You recall how difficult it had been to get Gale out of the sigil and think better of doing the task yourself.  You hold your bloody hand towards Astarion.  “Do you mind? I won’t be able to do it myself.”
Whatever he’s thinking is kept to himself, his mouth still and eyes unwavering as they survey your face.
“Why don’t we find you that healer?” he suggests.  “I’m sure this Nettie will get you fixed up and ready to dive in front of a fire arrow in no time.”
When you only nod Astarion adds, “I feel this should go without saying, but don’t jump in front of a fire arrow.  Unless it’s to save me, at which point, follow your instincts, darling.”
You press your lips together in an attempt to hide your growing smile.  He called you darling.  It sounded so much sweeter with those red eyes on you than it ever had in game.  You let the smile out and laugh.  “No promises, but I think I’m okay with losing a bit of blood for you.”
“Oh my goodness!”
You and Astarion look to the doorway to see Auntie Ethel standing there, mock worry on her face.  It really did look genuine though, if you didn’t know what she is.  She is a much better actor than Astarion.
“You poor thing,” she says, hurrying to your side and wrapping an arm around your shoulders, observing your injury.  “What happened?  Oh, no matter, I’ll get this treated.  Come with me, petal.”
Despite her frail appearance, Auntie Ethel is able to strong-arm you out of the makeshift prison.  She makes a fuss the whole way to her little cove within the cave.  You’re careful to avoid looking for Arka, and to avoid meeting anyone’s eyes as the woman makes a fuss over you.  You can’t hear Astarion’s steps but you know he’s following, if only by the icy grip that reaches out from the back of your head.

Who You Are
A Hogwarts Legacy Fanfiction
Below Hogwarts, Ranrok and his followers had used a goblin-built digger to infiltrate the castle defences. Professor Fig and I arrived just as they were breaking in…however it wasn’t just goblins that we had to fight through, but trolls and spiders. When the heat of battle became too great, we discovered alllies just in time before all was lost, through Professor Weasley, Professor Ronan, Professor Hecat, Professor Onai and Professor Sharp, who had been informed by Professor Fig about the situation prior to gaining access to the location of the final repository.
Not long after, when the final repository was finally discovered after centuries of being hidden away, Professor Fig asked me what I was planning to do with the repository’s power, either:
1. Leave it where it was, untouched
2. Claim the power for myself
I realised that now that the location of the final repository was exposed and that the repository itself was potentially no longer safe, I had to the claim it’s power for myself to ensure that once Ranrok was gone, never again will Goblins rise from the ashes like a Phoenix reborn to cause more trouble for the Wizarding World. Besides, after all I’d been put through, constantly fighting for my survival by defeating Ranrok’s Loyalists and Victor Rookwood’s Ashwinders and Poachers, all the while slaving away as the school skivvy and hamlet hero (being a 5th year and all), for multiple students within the school grounds and numerous people within the highlands and along the coast, gaining whatever power Ranrok was willing to fight for seemed perfectly justified.
Heck, I even went as far as succumbing to the Dark Arts for the guy I fell in love with, Sebastian Sallow, by standing by him in attempting to find a cure for his ailing sister, Anne, because I believed in him and wanted him to be happy by getting the sister he once knew back.
With all that in mind, gaining the power of one of Isidora Morganach’s repositories was the least I deserved, after everything I’d been through, from the moment I got attacked by a dragon on the first day of term, to the moment I finally gained enough trust for the Keepers to grant me access to the entrance of the repository, just by completing all of their trials.
Professor Fig and I got close to the repository when Ranrok appeared, wielding the wand of Professor Fig’s late wife, Miriam. Whether accidental or intentional, Ranrok used the wand to break open the repository, unleashing its power. When he did so, he absorbed the mass of negative energy from within and it transformed him into a powerful red dragon.
Somehow I found myself defeating Ranrok (in his dragon form) on my own. I had cast the more effective spells I’d learned, used as many Chinese Chomping Cabbages, Venomous Tentaculas and Mandrakes that I could carry and even resorted to using as much of my Ancient Magic strength as I needed, just to strike Ranrok down. The battle was not an easy one, but I had succeeded in defeating Ranrok for good, stripping him of his dragon form and of his powers. Where one problem was solved, another one took its place…with Ranrok out of commission, the repository’s power, without containment, was loose and going out of control!
I knew that there was only one thing to do…I had to take the power for myself and save everyone. Just when I had my wand at the ready, Sebastian appeared. “Y/N! Don’t!” he shouted. I turned my head to face him. “Sebastian! What are you doing here?! You have to get out of here…NOW!” “No, I’m not leaving you, Y/N. I’d heard rumours that some of the Professors were heading down here to assist you and Professor Fig…I figured something must be wrong…I feared you were badly hurt…I had to come…despite everything that’s happened between us Y/N, I DO care for you…after everything that you’ve done for me, being here with you is the least I can do.” He said, while out of breath. “That’s very sweet of you, Sebastian, and I’m grateful and flattered, but now is not the time. You have to get to safety, so just get out of here while you still can!” I replied, in a rushed voice. “No, I’m not leaving you. I’ve pretty much lost Anne, I’m not going to lose you too.”
My eyes filling with tears, I said “And I don’t want to lose you too, Sebastian…I love you, I always have! I have to do this, there’s no other way! I’m so sorry.” I shouted as tears streamed down my face and turned my attention back to the repository’s negative energy. I raised my wand and began absorbing the powerful energy the same way Isidora once did centuries ago, my eyes glowing red, as more and more dark magic was being absorbed through the wand. “NOOOO!” Sebastian screamed. As I absorbed more and more of the repository’s power, I began maniacally cackling and laughing, “Isidora’s power is all mine!” “ Oh, Y/N. What have you DONE?” Sebastian said sadly, in somewhat defeat.
Once all of the repository’s power was well and truly contained, I guess the exhaustion of endless questing, Ranrok’s defeat and absorbing all of the repository’s power finally took its toll on me and I felt so lightheaded that I could barely stand, and I felt myself falling to my knees. “Y/N!” Sebastian shouted as he dashed towards me, catching my head and neck with one of this arms before the rest of me started to fall into unconsciousness. “Seb-“ I began muttering. “Sshh. It’s okay, my love. Don’t say another word. I’m right here.” He replied softly, as he caressed my face with one of his hands. “I’m getting you out of here, Y/N. After everything you’ve done for the school, for me, these past few months, you’ve earned some much needed rest. I’m taking you straight up to the Hospital Wing. Nurse Blainey can help.” And with that I felt even lighter as he picked me up and carried me in his arms as we left.

Alongside fanfic, Do you also write original works?
Hi anon! I'm mainly a fanfic writer here, although I do have some notes and snippets for original writing scattered around, too. I'm very much an "only write what my current muse is" type of writer, I guess? Since everything is hobby-writing over here, and there tends to be time constraints on how much I can actually sit down and write, depending on my schedule.
Which means I usually end up bouncing around various half-finished plot bunnies a lot... unfortunately for us all lol. That applies to both fanfiction and original plot bunnies! Trying to work on it again with railgun as a longer-running project, so fingers crossed for that? (Sweats nervously)
Anyways, if anyone is interested! There are two original works that I've made slightly longer outlines for:
.
First vaguely-plotted bunny is the result of a few months of xianxia binge, and follows a character who ends up on the "dropped into a not so fictional xianxia novel" bandwagon. They're reborn as the heir of an ancient, reclusive family -the heir of the family that the actual MC of the novel belongs to. And, according to the novel, the MC will one day return and assume the position as heir once they've attained a certain level of strength.
Cool! So they're just stray villain A, cool beans. Being heir is a lot more work than they're willing to put up with. If the MC is going to come and take this load off of their shoulders, all the power to them! They can't wait for that day to come, honestly. In the meantime, they'll just quietly do what's expected of them, before they're finally free to go explore the world.
Fifty years pass. Okay, whatever. Time passes slower for cultivators, who usually spend their time... cultivating. Understandable. MC is probably training their ass off for... revenge, or something. Whatever.
A hundred years pass. MC is probably off traveling and having adventures with their Merry Band around this time?
Two hundred years pass. Has the MC finally discovered their parentage by this point? Sounds about right, going by the novel's timeline...
Three hundred years pass. They get crowned as the Family Head. Where. The fuck. Is. The goddamned MC?!
Five hundred years later, they finally snap, and storm down the mountain. What the hell is the MC doing?! By all that's holy under the heavens, absolutely nothing is going to stop them from hunting down the MC and dragging them back so they can take their fucking leadership. They hope MC chokes on the paperwork.
.
Second bunny is more of a "fantasy exploration." Modern setting, but with a fantasy bent! Follows a young hedgewitch living in a small town, whose daily life generally consists of curbing the mischief of the local brownie population, picking herbs and brewing potions ("Ooh, what kind of potions? Is that something like Felix Felicis?" "... It's just cough syrup."), etc. Her mundane life is upended when a new girl moves into town.
There's nothing wrong with the new girl, as a person. She's nice, friendly, and cheerful in a way that's hard to dislike.
However, this girl is also somehow a literal hotspot for supernatural activity, and soon our hedgewitch finds herself dealing with goblin mischief, fairy kidnappings, ravenous vampires, etc. It only gets worse from there.
I think the original idea for this came from the thought that it might be interesting to explore a sort of "modern, mundane" bent to magic? Like witches flying on vacuum cleaners, or looking up spells on their phones, stuff along those lines. A fortune teller uses mahjong pieces to read the future, and it somehow works.

I'm replying in the form of ask because comment is not working for some reason.
So happy to read another review from you 🥰 thanks for making it long 😅 i love reading it, there is always something informative 😇 Also, it doesn't matter if your theory remains the same, but your take on every episode/scene is what makes it special. Like how you explained the scene between that old woman and MM. Nobody touched on that scene yet and i really wanted to know what was the significance.
When you talked about your gran, it melted my heart. She was really an amazing lady and she is still alive within you.💕 I've lost my gran few months back and i can totally relate with everything you said ❤
Coming to the show, many people asked me if something could still go wrong and DK/MM still dies in the end. Idk how possible that is (unless they die together happily somehow ! Lol) , because if DK dies then MM's sacrifice would go waste, and if MM dies then what was the whole point of turning him into a human? I'm not saying that they need to live a long life for being a successful human being, but as we know it is already June 2021 in the show, so I was thinking can they show that DK and MM just got married for 1 day and then someone dies (Goblin blues 😑🤢) but i dont think that would make any sense ! 😅
What are your thoughts on that ?
About DK's parent's death and Dora, I always thought there was a connection and now that we have 2 entire episodes left, I think we should get an explanation for the same. Just like you have guessed, I really want there to be a connection because ever since that accident took place, DK and MM's story kind of started.
Thank you so much again for posting your review. 🥰
Haha thank you!!! Yea I thought that scene was pretty interesting mainly because I had read it in TSZ and then saw it in DAYS lol. I wanted to talk about it more, but I got tired of typing stuff haha. I also took that scene of the lady leaving behind the flowers to mean in a metaphorical sense that she was passing on the torch of love and liberation to Myul Mang so he could pass it on to Dong Kyung.
Aww thanks girl!! Yea its been a difficult journey overcoming her death, but I've learned so much about myself in the process. I'll admit I was crying my eyes out when I was writing that section, but they were tears of both joy and sadness. I'm beyond grateful to have had her in my life! Oh no!! I'm sorry for your loss :(. Like you said though, they'll always be with us <3!! There will be days that are more difficult than others, but in the end, we'll be okay eventually!!! I'm sure we will continue to grow up well because of them :) !!!
There's been way too many clues dropped that they'll both live in the end. The whole point of Myul Mang "dying" currently is that it's suppose to represent that he's done with one stage and moving onto the next stage. He has finally become free of the shackles of his old life. And now it's time for his physical transformation to reflect his mental transformation lol. Hmmm if Dong Kyung dies after Myul Mang is made human... what would happen. Let me think about this. Well that would suck lol. On the bright side, at least they were able to get married? haha. Again, I don't think this will happen, but its a cool idea to entertain lol.
I honestly thought the writer would've explored that story further instead of giving us the whole amnesia ordeal...but here we are haha. I did calculations based off of Dong Kyung's and Dora's age and it would seem that within a year of Dong Kyung's parents death, Dora was reborn again lol.
No problem!!! Hope you've been enjoying reading my posts !!!

Heroes Reborn: A solid event
Few things off the bat; first, sorry for the lack of uploads lately, I’ve been busy with some stuff.  Second, NO, this isn’t the infamous Heroes Reborn Marvel did back in the 90s (oh, don’t worry, I plan to talk about that one eventually), this is the recent miniseries that I wanted to use as an excuse to talk about one of the coolest, but somewhat obscure Marvel superteam, the Squadron Supreme.
The Squadron Supreme were originally introduced in the final panel in 1969′s (nice) Avengers #69 (nice!) as the villainous Squadron Sinister and one quick look can give you an idea of who there are; expies of the Justice League, so that every once in awhile the Avengers can fight Batman and Superman, without getting into the legal complications of official Marvel/DC crossovers.  Later on, Marvel would introduce a more heroic version dubbed the Squadron Supreme, who would appear now and then in various Marvel titles.  In 1985, legendary Marvel writer Mark Gruenwald would go write a 12 issue Squadron Supreme miniseries that deconstructed the superhero genre, laying down the foundation that future works like Watchmen, Kingdom Come, and The Boys would explore further.  But we’re not talking about that work today, we’re talking about the recent Marvel miniseries that took the idea of “What if DC but Marvel” and ran with it.
The story begins in East Los Angeles, where Blade the Vampire Hunter roams the streets looking for Robbie Reyes, AKA Ghost Rider... and finding a normal kid riding a normal bicycle just worried about getting to school on time.  Further exposition tells the readers that in this world, the Avengers never existed, Earth (or at least America) is protected by the violent and merciless Squadron Supreme of America (and boy do I now wonder how much The Boys was on Jason Aaron’s mind when he wrote this), with only Blade seemingly aware that something’s wrong.
OK, this book has some plot holes and logic problems, but I was all in it.  It really does seem like the writers just had a ball trying to figure out which DC character Marvel’s characters would be like.  Some of them can be a bit obvious (such as the Green Goblin being the Joker) but some of them make me grin (just wait till you see who’s Harley Quinn!).  I’d tell you who’s who, but, c’mon, that’d be spoiling the fun for you!  While each issue of the miniseries followed a different member of the Squadron, while the tie-in issues explored this altered Marvel Universe, with different Marvel characters standing in for groups and characters like Jimmy Olson, Bizzaro, the various Lantern Corps, and the Teen Titans (When there’s trouble/you know who to call!).
While I loved this miniseries, apparently (and by that I’m going by Wikipedia), the story got mixed reviews.  Again, I really dug it, but I think how much you’d like it depends on how much you enjoy seeing the DC parodies.  I loved it, and I hope DC follows suit sometime.  Last year there was a rumor floating around the Internet that Marvel Studios was interested in using the Squadron in a movie, and I really hope that one turns out to be true, ‘cause it’d be a ton of fun, especially if they manage to wrangle former DC actors for it.
Heroes Reborn can be found as a single trade paperback, while the tie-ins are collected in a pair of companion volumes.

So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as Goblin Vol. 5 adds an interesting new aspect to the story
So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as Goblin Vol. 5 adds an interesting new aspect to the story #comics #comicbooks #graphicnovel #manga
Most goblins are lucky to see their seventh day–but not Akira! Once an ordinary Japanese salaryman, he has dedicated his second life as an exceptionally long-lived goblin to making a utopia for goblinkind, where weeklong lives are not tragedies but rather the rhythm of society. Until one day, Akira ministers to a goblin on her deathbed, and she abruptly resuscitates…with an even stronger skill to…

When Geralt and Jaskier broke up, countless authors instantly hit their keyboards to write fix-it fic in which they make up and make out: the power of fanfiction, y’all. Fanfiction serves to transform canon, to extend it and manipulate it. It can provide a variety of solutions to that unfortunate mountain incident, to the pesky issue of Jaskier aging, and more. Never doubt the creativity of an entire fandom.
I’ve compiled some of what I consider excellent fanfics that feature this pairing although it does not contain all of my recommendations. They are listed in no particular order.
As a reminder, please make sure to check the tags and any warnings before reading. Take care of yourself!
To Pay and To Purloin by Star_flaming Canon Divergence // ~6k // R
The town of Dalnacreich had a curse upon its wells, and Geralt was more than confident he could get the Good Neighbor who lay it to remove it in turn. As to the price he must pay, that was a little more up in the air, and not for lack of Jaskier's attempts to pin it down.
The god of scraped knees. by spqr  Sorcerer AU // ~8k // R
Jaskier’s been pretending to be human for so long now that he hardly remembers what it feels like to be a sorcerer. He doesn’t want to remember what it feels like to be a sorcerer. But people still murmur his name with reverence in certain dim halls; Dandelion, Dandelion, destroyer of worlds.
Rosemary for memory by Kaiyo_no_Hime  Hanahaki Trope // ~13k // Unrated
Jaskier comes to terms with his life after finding he is suffering from the courtly disease, hanahaki. He wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his days singing sweet odes to his beloved Witcher.
So, when their paths cross again, he is happy to rejoin the stoic man and silently suffer his final days in his presence.
Rivers Run by DancingLassie Deity AU // Series // WIP // ~80k // NC-17
Jaskier's start in life was unfortunate, but sadly not unheard of. He was put in a sack, less than an hour old, and chucked in the river. For many in his position that would of been the end of it, but the Yaruga heard his cut off wail and swept him into her loving embrace.
Less than an hour old and Jaskier had already died and been reborn as the newest child of Mama Yaruga.
Sometimes a Hammer, Sometimes a Lockpick by madsthenerdygirl Canon Divergence // ~6k // PG-13
Geralt's been in a dungeon for two weeks and is understandably frustrated. Jaskier, on the other hand, is what one might call... livid.
of bards and witches and witchers by WriteThroughTheNight Yennefer & Jaskier Siblings AU // Series // ~18k // PG-13
When Jaskier was four, he slipped his mother’s watch and went to the field to gather a bouquet of dandelions. He climbed back into the yard, as stealthy as a child really cared to be, and crept over to the barn. In the barn, lived a secret. (The man he thought his father said the secret was a monster, a plague. His mother said the secret was his sister.)
OR
Jaskier comes from a far humbler background, and would really like to know why Yennefer never came back for her youngest brother.
Somebody To Love by kathkin Cupid AU // ~24k // NC-17
This was far from the first time someone had wanted Geralt. This wasn’t the first time it was someone Geralt wanted back. And this time, it was good. It would be a good match. But his gut said no. A good match wasn’t enough. Geralt deserved – needed better than that. He deserved glorious – passionate – spectacular love. That was what he wanted, for Geralt.
Songbird Sorrows by Kaz_Langston Canon Divergence // ~18k // NC-17
Six months after the mountain, and the end of their twenty year partnership, Jaskier finally tries to move on. Unfortunately, his paramour’s sister isn’t having any of it. When Geralt arrives, he finds a bard who won’t even acknowledge his existence, and though his apology seems to go down well enough there’s definitely still something wrong.
Bite Marks by vestigialstell Vampire AU // ~13k // NC-17
Geralt is half-man, half-monster. Jaskier gets along with him just fine because, after all, Jaskier isn’t all human either.
Don't Look a Gift Goblin in the Mouth by SummerFrost Different First Meeting // ~3k // G
“No, I’m serious, I really do have like, uh—a goblin… thing… in my house!” Jaskier insists. “Will you come take a look at it? I don’t want it to, I don’t know, eat my liver or something?”
Geralt massages at his temple. “Very few monsters are that picky. It would probably just eat all of you.”
Of Nowhere by didoandis Canon Divergence // ~11k //  NC-17
“Everyone’s from somewhere,” Ciri says. “I’m from Cintra, even though no one can know it, and Geralt’s from Rivia, and Yennefer’s from Vengerberg. So where are you from?”
“Nowhere,” Jaskier says, and his tone has just enough of a snap to it, an edge she’s not heard before, that she decides to leave it be.
It turns out that where Jaskier’s from, they’re not that happy to see him. Until they realise he could be worth something...

As always, stay hydrated!
Happy pride, everyone!
Last updated 6/23
1-Chapter bits of fluff or angst or something else
one hell of a hook | A TodoBaku fic... but don’t let that drive you away! This is an amazing fic, so please give it a try before you judge.
Mafia Au | What if Present Mic was a yakuza boss and Aizawa was a spy? (There’s a lot more to this, including a lot more art, over at @nartothelar‘s blog)
UA Music Conservatory | a series of one-shots in an AU where UA is actually a music school.
Silent Shadow | has the potential to evolve into something bigger. Nomu!Midoriya is Kurogiri’s protege. So cool.
Present Mic’s Awesome Mixtape 2.0 | Aizawa doesn’t like any kind of music. Shocking, right? After discovering this, Yamada has a new goal. Find a type of music Aizawa likes.
cultivating something so divine | Vet!Kiribaku, with so much fluff and animals and mutual pining that even the hardest of hearts can be softened.
The story of how Midoriya Izuku won the Sport Festival | I love a good dose of Crack Treated Seriously, and here’s some.
Trash Goblin Finds Love | “Bakugou. This is the gayest thing I’ve ever seen.”
president of the krbk club | Whenever something exciting happens, what does Midoriya do? Whip out his notebooks, of course. So what happens when Bakugou isn’t pushing Kirishima away?
It's Hard to Get Past Some Things | Whenever Midoriya’s drunk, Todoroki’s his designated caretaker. What happens when drunk Midoriya decides to talk about kids (or pups, whatever)? (A/B/O)
it's just the little things | Bakugou’s interactions over the years (stealing from the official summary here)
The Knock-On Effect | There’s only a couple types of knocks that Bakugou likes. Kirishima’s knocks in the middle of the night are one of them.
Smile for me, would you? | Unlike the rest of us, Present Mics has goals, and actually follows through with them. This goal? Make his neighbor, Shouta Aizawa, smile.
Shadowed Soul, Electric Eyes (We'll Be Okay) | What if Tokoyami and Kaminari, people with completely different quirks, got quirk-swapped?
A Matter of Pride | How everyone in BNHA came out. That’s it. It’s so fluffy, though.
firedancer | Unlike the rest of these, this one has the tiniest bit of angst. So little you’d need a microscope, though. Whenever someone falls in love, romantically, platonically, or any other way, a flower appears on their skin. Kirishima has a ton of flowers, but where are Bakugou’s?
A Mile in New Shoes (and A Mile Too Far) | Artist!Bakugou is invited to his first house party... Luckily he has three guys showing him around.
Boy things | Ashido loves her friends, but sometimes it gets lonely being the only girl in the Bakusquad. Good thing they understand!
come home to me | Kiribaku might’ve gotten a telepathic connection... There’s so much fluff in this one!
one to ten | Kirishima wants to date Bakugou, but he’s gotta climb the ladder of friendship first!
Get Mad! | Bakugou teaches Eri how to cope, and Eri returns the favor.
bakugatsu | Yeah, I know this is 20 chapters long, but it’s basically 20 drabbles compiled together by the amazing wonhaebunny!
a mix of six | Probably my favorite series of all time, no matter the fandom. What happens when Aizawa and Hizashi adopt Bakugou, Todoroki, Shinsou and Eri?
KiriBaku Week 2020 | A series by PoorUnfortunateSoul - full of fluff!
Safety In Numbers | A little bit of fluff and a lot of parental Erasermic.
Multi-chapter Stories
How To Get Adopted Without Letting Your Dad Know He's Adopting You, A Guide By Class 1-A | Good old fashioned school fluff. (WIP)
Dandelion | No masterlist is complete without at least one fic from the legendary Broken Realities, right? So here’s @owlf45‘s fic... (there’s a lot more! Check out the Broken Realities Collection on Ao3 for at least some of them... I bet there’s a lot more floating around.) (WIP)
Phosphenes | A Naruto/BNHA crossover, Mina is reborn from Naruto, and learns to navigate life even with such a big burden on her shoulders. (WIP)
Flour Power | Kirishima and Bakugou are supposed to take care of a sack of flour for a school project. What could go wrong?
Not really a villain, but close enough | “Aizawa didn't expect the raid to go so well. he didn't expect the informant to be so useful and well-mannered. who was hi kidding? Aizawa didn't expect the informant to be a kid. but the green-eyed boy cuffed to the interrogation table was wiling to help, and Aizawa wasn't one to look the gift horse in the mouth“ (WIP)
green haze | Vigilante!Midoriya is known as the Green Haze, a vigilante, Eraserhead’s supposed to capture. Shenanigans happen.
2am Knows All Secrets | One of those classic Kiribaku fics that trickle through the ranks. Lots of fluff, with good ol’ tropes like sharing a bed and mutual pining and Good Friends, and-it’s great.
The life of a hero | Such a good series. It’s so amazing. It gives angst and pain but then soothes it over with fluff, but then it tears you apart... and then it gives you life... a great read.
The Last Resort | This is basically pure angst. It’s so painful, but it’s such a good story... Shinsou was sold as a young child to a yakuza. This yakuza would rent out people for their quirks... This is an amazing read, but don’t expect any fluff from this. (Check the tags! WIP)
¥300 Shampoo | When Aizawa’s working on a book at the cafe, he certainly doesn’t expect someone pulling his hair. He definitely doesn’t expect getting a free haircut out of it, either.
quote love unquote | Take the official summary “When Kirishima Eijirou's band hits the big time, he's not prepared for his newfound fame. He's even less prepared to meet the actor he's been crushing on for years, or to start dating him as a publicity stunt. The closer Kirishima gets to Bakugou Katsuki, the more he realizes he's in over his head. But it's hard to stop, once his heart is in it.”
lovin is easy | Blasty doesn’t get “feelings,” so here’s five times Bakugou doesn’t get love and one time he does. (WIP)
The Empath & The Mind Reader | Bakugou is a mind reader, and Kirishima is a empath. If both of them can literally know what the other person’s feeling/thinking, why are they still dancing around each other? (WIP, Contains smut, Anxiety attacks)
and finally I see the world in color (the violet stands out, thanks to you) | This fic deserves a LOT more than just 76 kudos. Sometimes people miss out on amazing fics just because it’s a femslash. Momojirou, where Yaoyaorozu is a businesslady who is bored with her life and everything else, until she happens upon the rambunctious band Dark Shadow. Seriously, please read this! (WIP)
Behind The Scenes | A KiriBaku actor AU. What happens when you start falling for your co-star - and your on-screen love interest? (WIP, It’s rated E for smut, but there isn’t any yet)
We Didn't Start the Fire | What if Touya decided to make something out of himself instead of becoming a villain? This is amazing, by the way. (WIP)
it seems i'm never letting go | Here’s how I summarized it to myself... “Koi no yokan... will Blasty experience it? (His sister left)” By the way, koi no yokan is basically love at first sight, Japanese-style. (WIP)
Lips Like Blood | What happens when Bakugou, a mage, falls in love with the one person who can’t love him back? (WIP)
Charm Me, Loser | A Hogwarts AU that has no right being that ingenius and amazing. My only problem with it is sorta small... There’s already a wizarding school in Japan... Why aren’t they going there? (WIP)
Gotta Get Away | Tsuyu and Bakugou are out getting some new hero merch together because of the new buddy system at UA. What happens when they’re mistaken for a couple? (WIP)
Opposed to the Typical | A fashion AU. This is ridiculously good. It feels like the author was actually in the Japanese fashion industry! (WIP, smut, past child abuse, mental health issues)
One Day at a Time | Pretty genius idea, actually. Bakugou and Uraraka are trapped in what is essentially a time-speeder-upper. What’s going to be a day for their classmates is going to be a year for them. What will they do in that year together? (WIP, it’s rated Mature but it’s pretty innocent so far)
The UA Quarantine Collection | Basically, a bunch of authors got together and made a ton of one-shots of what Class 1A is doing in quarentine. Technically it isn’t a coherent story, but I’m counting it as one. There’s two versions, a clean version and a version with all the smutty bits. The smutty one’s the second story in the series. This one’s linked to the clean one. (WIP)
Midoriya Fuckin' Izuku | This is an amazing fic! It has a ton of TWs, though. Make sure to read the tags before starting it! (WIP)
Seeing Double | A very good, and very long, fantasy AU. (WIP, smut)
Broken, but Still Good | Bakugou was rescued, after four years, from an illegal alpha fighting ring. Can Kirishima, a beta, help him back to society? Pay attention to the tags. (WIP, A/B/O)
Broken Wings | Kirishima’s a dragon who was rescued from the dragon slave trade by the mysterious Bakugou Katsuki, I don’t know what else to say. (WIP)
The Roast of Class 2-A | Have a crackfic. (WIP)
The Space Between | Midoriya’s a photojournalist who is just starting out. One fateful night, he goes to photograph the Antiheros in concert. (WIP, mild smut)
A Fissile Family | Bakugou’s been kidnapped by the League of Villains again. They’re actually sorta a weird family. (WIP)
Mochi Mochi | Just take the official summary. “Ochako never saw a problem with DM-ing an internationally known actor her grocery lists, absolutely certain that he'd never see them. That is—until he replies. And who the hell does he think he is to tell her mochi isn't real food?”
Green as the Leaves, and Red as a Rose | A TodoDeku flower shop AU. (WIP)
remember my name | Post-UA, Bakugou realizes that some things are for forever.
Blinding Shapes | What happens when soulmates, a blind abstract artist and a burnt out barista meet?
a heart swelled to bursting | Mind the tags, here. Training camp part 2 for Class 2A. (WIP)
manly man falls for manliest man | What happens when businessman!Kirishima meets his idol, and maybe biggest celebrity crush ever, actor!Bakugou? (Smut)
Miscellaneous Stuff From Other Fandoms
I have some Harry Potter fics lying around somewhere, so I’m going to add those later.
Stucco Hearts | One of my absolute favorite soulmate fics ever, from Percy Jackson.
Christmas and Chill | A old series I sorta just came across again from PJO.
The Florist and the Punk | Maybe another old series from PJO.
Hearts Need Love | Keep an eye on the tags! This is my favorite PJO fic of all time.
Our Songs | It’s good if I spent half an hour trying to find it again. It’s a Solangelo songfic.
Some random writers I recommend (A lot more coming along-I’m in the middle of a ton of different fics right now)
aloneintherain | @captainkirkk
wonhaebunny | @wonhaebunny
rosedvst
Sif (Rosae) | @intothedarknessigo
kiritime
sinderellaa
aloera | @aloera
Argentina | @junepixel
KuriKuri | @letaizawarest
