Spring reading challenge update #2
I am half way done with the challenge, I honestly thought I wouldn't manage to keep up with it so well. But I have a feeling that the next few prompts will take a bit more. At the moment I have two more books on my currently reading pile for this challenge, but I think both will take a little while to finish. For the ramaining two I still have no idea what to read, and I hope I'll find something from my unread shelves, since these challenges have been a blessing to finally pick up books I had sitting sround for so long.
Animal Farm by George Orwell for the banned book prompt
I wasn't sure on what to pick for this prompt. The first thing I checked was what books got banned in Italy thoughtout history, wikipedia tells me that only a couple of books got banned during the fascit dictatorship, because they were agains military propaganda. I then randomly found on a bookstore site an article talking about banned books they were advertizing. A lot of really interesting titles were on the list, but this one stood out because it had been on my tbr for a long time. Animal Farm has been banned in a lot of countries in the world, first off in the Soviet Union, as well as in Kenya, in the Arab Emirates, North Korea, China and many more. I ended up listening to the whole audiobook during a car ride, and I loved every single minute of it. I really want a physical copy to annotate.
Toil and Trouble edited by J. Spotswood and T. Sharpe for the alliteration in the title prompt
I've had this collection of short stories on my bookshelves for so damn long. Finally this challenge conviced me to pick it up. As I have said in the review post, my opinions on this book are a bit confused, because I loved a few stories, while others really left me completly neutral. I couldn't have cared less, which isn't good. As I have said in that post I don't think that happened because the stories wheren't good, but because they simply weren't a genre I really like. So overall if you are interested in hte book I recommend it. There's some great stories, with powerful character that you really want to get to know. It's a good collection of stories, because they have a main theme which is women and witchcraft, but they are really differenciated from one another. Everyone can find a story they like, and the cast of characters is really diverse which is always really nice to see in a book.
Full reviews of the books linked in the titles above.

Simstober Day 2: Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble
What is this
that rises like the issue of a king
and wears upon his baby brow the round
and top of sovereignty?
...
Macbeth shall never vanquished be until
Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill
Shall come against him
(Macbeth 4.1.98-107)
I figured that the witches would be too easy for this challenge, so here is Apparition 3 who I think is way creepier.

Toil And Trouble edited by J. Spotswood and T. Sharpe
This is a collection of 15 stories by different authors. All stories have to do with women and witchcraft, reson why I was gifted this book a few years ago. I finally picked it up for the studyblr w/knives Spring Reading Challenge for the prompt allitteration in the title.
I have messy opinions on this book, because I loved a few stories, and I really mean it. I feel like I will reread them in the future and that they will stick in the back of my mind for a while. The other stories were a bit meh. They didn't do anything for me. But I am quite aware it is because they weren't the genre I tend to like, they are for people with different reading taste for me. So they weren't bad they just weren't for me, I want this to be clear. One thing I really appreaciated in this book is the diversity. In terms of stories, but also in terms of characters. We see witches of different ethnicities, living in different places and different times, with different background and sexualities. That was a great thing about this collection of stories. And since the stories are so different I feel like almost anyone could find at least a couple of them they really really liked.
My three favourites in no particular order were:
Afterbirth by Andrea Cremer : a story with an historical setting, that plays really well with history. As you may know I am particularly interested in the historical persecution of witchcraft (my thesis will be on the subject for example), and I felt like thos story had a couple of great nods to history.
Daughters Of Baba Yaga by Brenna Yovanoff : this story's strenght was the main character who feels so powerful you yourself feel that power in you while reading it. I loved her, her attitude was empowering, I don't know what else to say.
Why They Watch Us Burn by Elizabeth May : this story alone could make the book worth reading. It was emotional and powerful at the same time. It was again an empowering story. Anger, hope, women supporting other women, it had everything. I really really appreaciated it, and I will admit it made me reevaluate the book as a whole.

Simstober 2021
DAY 2: Bubble, Bubble Toil and Trouble @simstober
“Have you heared about the 2nd child of the Winterstorm family? You know, Jaime... They said they are a Wizard. And that in an Anti-Magic family. But then again, with their real father being an elf what do you expect? They say they have tricked many people with their illusions. Just be careful around them.”
First of all... this is the first time I editted one of my screenshot. Hope you like it. Second, This is Jaime Winterstorm, my Wizard who I once played in a oneshot. I got pretty attachted to my enby daydreamer. I had trouble picking who to use for this, but eventually settled for them.
