Foolish Bear, 84, left, and Drags Wolf, 75, came to New York on January 13, 1938 to recover from the Heye Foundation (Museum of the American Indian) two sacred skulls of thunderbird deities that they believed would end recent droughts in their native North Dakota. The men were members of the Water Buster or Midi Badi clan of the Hidatsa (Gros Ventre) tribe. This was the first known successful repatriation of Indian objects. They visited President Roosevelt on the way to New York.

An interesting thing I noticed is that Gob and Buster both have unintentionally boundary crossing gestures; Gob’s hugs(as well as other things but I’m not going to list every single thing separately) and Buster’s back massages. Their actions are intended to be nice, comforting, relaxing but, to others, it comes off as over the top or weird or off putting.
I don’t really have much more to say on the subject but I just found it notable. Finding similarities between Buster and any of the siblings is always notable because of how Buster tends to be separate from the rest of the crowd. I’ll be thinking about the characters and I’ll be like, “Oh, this applies to all the siblings…Except Buster.” It’s especially notable with Gob because of how, on a surface level viewing, different Gob and Buster are. They were both on the opposite sides of the spectrum when it came to getting love from their parents. Gob got none and Buster got, like, so much(or, “so much” since it wasn’t really love; or, at least, it wasn’t healthy love). Gob was neglected while Buster was overprotected.
Lindsay and Michael try to separate themselves front the family. They want to think they’re better than it; Michael taking care of everything and putting family first and Lindsay hosting charity events. Gob and Buster want to be in the family, though. They want to be protected by their parents, loved by their parents. Gob, in as much denial as he is in, is definitely more aware of how bad their parents are than Buster is but they both go along with (or try to go along with in Gob’s case) what will get them love from their respective parent-they-want-the-approval-/-love-of. And we see that, when the attention is shifted from Buster to Annyong, Buster gets mad and upset and fights for attention and has petty rivalries just as Gob does with Michael.
I think one of the reasons Buster stays with Lucille and on her side, other than believing it’s the only way he’ll be safe from the “dangers of the world” is that it’s the only way he’ll be safe from the dangers of his parents. He is shown to recognize that his siblings don’t like their mom and he just sort of respectfully is like, “I get it but I like mom so I’m going to stay with her.” So, it’s not like he doesn’t know that his mom does bad things. I think that he sees that, for whatever reason, he got special treatment. He was treated differently. He was treated better. And, even if in some ways he may find himself dissatisfied or held back, this is the only life he knows(which is the case for all of the siblings, just in different ways) and he doesn’t want to risk losing what good things he does have. And, as I said, with Annyong, he sees him as a threat to his happiness, to his safety, and he fights against him to keep it.
And, as I said, it’s a similar thing with Gob. He was neglected his entire life and had to fight for attention in an ever-losing battle. And, if he did get attention, it wasn’t good attention. For him, though, he sees what his siblings have. His main rival is Michael, of course, but, there’s also what I feel is a bitterness he has towards Buster, which is why he is shown teasing him a lot(other than, ya know, that being typical oldest sibling stuff). It’s not shown too much, as Buster isn’t a threat to him but it is something that probably affects him. Buster is just as incompetent as he is and yet he is loved. He is cared for. Gob wants to be to their dad what Buster is to their mom. Of course, he’s going for the positions, roles and status that Michael has but Michael doesn’t necessarily like his dad. He cares for his dad but he has qualms. Gob is trying to play into things that will get his dad’s approval. He is following whatever his dad tells him to do. He wants the “love” that Buster gets. He’s willing to compromise his own happiness and wellbeing for his dad and, anything he does or feels that goes against what his dad would approve of, he pushes down and hides. Buster would rather stay with their mom than find his own independence. Gob would rather stay with their dad than find his own independence.
Their main differences come from the fact that Buster was given that love and Gob wasn’t. There’s also what was expected of them. Gob was expected to be a functional person and a business man who marries a women/sleeps with a lot of women and Buster was expected to be a well behaved little boy all his life who did whatever his mom said. For Buster, that didn’t really take him out of his comfort zone so, while it probably isn’t very fulfilling, it was at least safe. He was stuck within a warm room on a boat while Gob was drowning in the waves. Desperately trying to get his dad’s attention so he’ll let him onto his boat, he does more and more things, all of which just exhaust him and lead him closer and closer to succumbing to the rough seas. Neither situation is good. Buster was hidden away, never exposed to the elements and Gob was always exposed to them, struggling to survive. This just leaves them both unable to handle the waves, becoming overwhelmed and ceasing functionality at even just the slightest ripple in the water.

I think there was a brief period where Dr. Wily genuinely tried to better himself by studying classic literature, but then he read Journey to the West and his takeaway was “WAIT A MINUTE, I COULD MAKE SOME EVIL ROBOTS OUT OF THIS!”
and the Genesis Unit was born

heyo! Just found your blog and I was scrolling through your stuff and noticed your AU tone deaf. And I haven't found anything about what it is or what your idea is behind it. So I wanted to ask if you could give me an introduction to your AU!
Oh! And I absolutely love your artstyle and how you draw Buster! Anyway, hope you drink enough water and have a good day/night! ;)
Dear god this has been in my drafts for a while-
Hiya! Sorry for that lack of info lol, I'd been inactive for a long time, and the time that I actually WAS posting consistently was back when things were still being sorta fleshed out. But I've got a pretty good idea of how every single part moves at this point, so sure :D I'll give a not-so-brief summary lol [under a cut because I couldn't not dump multiple paragraphs teehee ~_~]
--------------
Tone Deaf is like a dystopian version of Sing, if I were to put it super duper simply. One where Buster's issues get more emotional focus, and we get actual bonds with the cast because the movie forgot to do that.
Buster is, also, a lot more unhinged, fair warning. This fic's gonna contain violence and tackle some darker subjects [adjacent to grief and denial more specifically] so if it feels like I jumped a lot of sharks, it's because I 100% did.
It kinda started with me noticing how, in the actual movies btw, smaller characters like Buster and Mike had more difficulty getting around places. This led me to ask myself about how species differences could lead to struggles for certain animals since the city just isn't built for everyone [this is NOT Zootopia]. Ash's quills, and Meena's towering size were things I noticed too that would be massive problems, realistically. So after a lot of pondering, now we're here.
The world of Tone Deaf in present day is in a post-war period that's lasted about 50 years now [Crawly is actually a veteran from this war- which was more like complete and total anarchy if I'm being real, since there weren't really any sides until near the end...]
Long story short, the wealthy capitalized off of the war and taking people prisoner- so they purposefully kept it going. A resistance ended up forming to stand against this [Miss Crawly being one of the generals, with that classic missing eye] and after their army stormed the unsuspecting stronghold, the war finally began to conclude. It still took around a year after that to release all of the prisoners of war, and by the end of it all, the damage that had been done to some races was permanent. Even extinction-level in some cases- some animals just straight up don't exist anymore because of it.
Back to Calatonia. Laws that are in place to protect animals from tearing eachother apart are still relatively new, and the criminal underbelly of Calatonia is kinda out of control. Animals get kidnapped/poached, smaller animals are at a huge disadvantage and have basically no power [politically or otherwise], endangered species are a very real thing, poverty is a huge issue for most of the population- and in the middle of all this is Buster Moon.
He's gonna be the main perspective. And the story will also serve as a slight character study on him, mixed with my own grittier and batshit insane changes/headcanons/alternate universe ideas on his backstory. He's a ray of sunshine with a lot of bottled-up feelings that will kinda really take control of the story.
Buster has been arrested multiple times. He's been put in unsuccessful therapy. He's still grieving his dad. He's committing crime and compulsively lying about those illegal actions too. He has emotional difficulties that he hasn't dared try touching on in years, and he has issues with letting go- which, is kinda how all of his new problems come to be.
The threat of his theater being repossessed if his show isn't a success gets a LOT more emphasis too.
But on top of that is the added threat of Buster getting sent out of the city if he can't get his business up and running. Remember how I mentioned endangered animals?? Well Koalas are one of them. One of the big ones, actually. He's the only Koala in a city of almost five hundred thousand, and it's been that way for almost half a decade now. It's been causing issues for the people in charge for half a decade now. Koalas have government-protected settlements far away from here due to their numbers being so few, so if Buster loses the theater? That's the next step for him.
But, to help this poor dude through all the stress of life is the found-family he develops with the cast he hired. He helps them for a lot of the first act, and then they give back his kindness in the second. They connect through their similar experiences, as well as their shared passion for music and performance. And by the end, maybe Buster's okay. Or maybe he's had a complete downward spiral [not gonna speak of act three 🥰]
Other characters have also had a shift in their dynamics. Things in the story have changed. Like for instance- Gunter already knew Buster and was a close friend of him and Eddie before the show, Judith is now the mayor and a main character, Pete has been put in place of the banker in charge of Buster's accounts, Buster unfortunately gets involved in politics, Mike actually gets to bond with the cast- actually the cast gets to bond with the cast point blank period [idc what you say, this just straight up doesn't happen in the canon movies], and to top it all of is a generous helping of angst with a few acts of violence sprinkled in 🤭
The actual Act I summary is this right now:
Buster had been in tight situations before-- suffocating situations, even. He’d been in every kind of trouble imaginable, he thought. With family, friends, local businesses, the law. But he'd always wormed his way out, either through loopholes or by charm. Or usually just by stacking another lie on top of his already crumbling facade. But this time it's gonna take more than a cover-up to fix this. ‏‏‎ Buster’s dishonesty takes him too far once again, a simple typo causing him to unintentionally land himself in a wager that could cost his very life. He has two months to fix this- to ACTUALLY fix this. And the worst part is that he hadn't even meant to lie this time. ‏‏‎ The First Act of Tone Deaf.
TLDR; Buster learns to love again after experiencing the horrors of animalkind firsthand and being healed by theater kids LMFAO

Buster vs The Toaster
Eddie, walking into their apartment: Is something burning?
Buster, cheerfully: Just my love for you!
Eddie, looking into the kitchen and freezing: Buster, the toaster is on fire.
Buster, dismissively: Oh yeah... also that.
Eddie, panicking: BuStEr!!!!!
Buster, defensively: IT’S CONFUSING OK????
Eddie, grabbing a box of baking soda: You’re gonna get us evicted!!!

This is like a super simple question, but who's your favorite sing character?
*sigh* As much as I love all of the Sing (2016 / 2021) and as great as they all are equally, this DOOFUS takes up 5% extra of my heart
Tumblr media
'cause, my GOSH I love him too much you don't even know- Like at first glance you just think "this is a broke guy who's too stubborn for his own good" and that,,,true(atleast for the first movie). But he's so much more than that?? Atleast to me?? Like there's a reason behind how he acts and I relate to it so much. Especially the pretty much unwavering positivity he has while everything seems to be falling apart around him, he just keeps his head up and keeps moving forward. Sure, that does lead to some negative outcomes in both movies but it's also so admirable too, how he's able to keep up a smile with his charisma, silliness and overal personailty is so cool to me and idk why.
Also his personality is just so, good? Like how he acts just never fails to make me smile like an absolute idiot(which is ironic since it's him acting like an idiot that makes me smile like an idiot). And it's not just the "comic relief" character trope either, he is actually genuienly very funny and charming that is never too overbearing or forced. He's just a really silly little guy. He's just such a ball of posivity, charm, energy and happiness that just reflects of you, y'know?? You can't help but feel happy when he's happy in a way.
Also, his overal character arc is so nice to me?? As in, the concept of him chasing his dream in the first movie, despite almost everyone and seeming everything seems to be against him is so relatable. Like i've had dreams that i've eventually given up on bc everyone kept saying "it'll never happen" and discouraging me so much I believed it and gave up. But this buster on the other hand never knows when tf to quit! And yeah, that unwavering ambition is not shown in a fully good light but to me it is?? Seeing him so passionate and ambitious in his goals made me want him to get to his dreams. It actually makes me regret ever giving up on all the stuff I wanted to do when in the past and gave up on bc enough people said "you're not good enough" or "you'll never do it". Actually seeing him eventually acheive the things he's worked for kinda made me think "Even if I did quit, maybe I cant still do it??". I'm still not too sure how that's gonna work but this guy kinda rips all the negativity off when he's onscreen, idk how but it just feels I can do anything I set my mind to, as corny as it sounds. And the fact he (almost) gave up at one point (2016 movie) makes me even more hopeful. Maybe I love him cause I kin him too??
Also he's voiced by Matthew McConaughey so there's that-
Tumblr media
Anywho TL;DR: I love this goofy, silly, dramatic, pathetic, lovely koala man thing for his goofy, silly, dramatic, pathtic, lovely ways. Did I mention his chaotic tendencies?? Add that to the list too. Actually the list is endless and I'll make in someday (read:never). Anyways love this dumb tiny showman with many talents. I also want his gender like, like Moon, your gender, gimme. I found out I kin him a bit too so that's fun.
Also he's voiced by Matthew McConaughey so there's that

Hi hypmic fandom
I’ve been having so much fun interacting with you all (I love it here) so I just wanted to ask!
What is a headcanon you have about a hypmic character that lives in your head rent free despite it being an extremely tiny detail and/or having no significance to the plot whatsoever. Does not have to be canon compliant.
I’ll start: Gentaro can’t swim. Idk why my brain insists upon this being true, it just does. I imagine he (a) will not remove his clothes to get in the water in the first place and (b) if he ever did get into the water, he would not have the strength to keep himself afloat with how heavy his clothes get when soaked.

The Playhouse (1921) Buster Keaton
The Playhouse is a comedy film written, directed by, and starring Buster Keaton . It is  famous for the opening sequence in which Keaton plays every role, like Georges Méliès did in One-Man Band
