Hmmm... Complicated ask, anon.😂

[My personal life would be splashed here and there. Please bear with me]

Before 5 months, if you asked me about Naruto, my response would be ‘What the fuck is that?’. I absolutely had no idea such a treasure existed. For me, it started out like a blockbuster movie for the sheer variety of fights and the resulting emotions it brought within me.

However, there was a point I stopped and thought, ‘Wait a fucking second. This resembles my family dynamics. This person is speaking the exact same lines I spoke to my parents few years ago. This person’s situation resembles mine. Did this creator a time traveler?’. Naruto is the only piece of media that gave me such feel. Am not even exaggerating, believe me.

I really liked so many characters very much but am going to try my best to list just 10.

The only characters I hate in this series are Danzo, Sakura and Hinata in no particular order. Meaning, I absolutely cannot see any positives in them. They are crassy, cringey and completely detestable.

FAVOURITE NARUTO CHARACTERS

10. Killer Bee

HaHaHa :-) Just seeing this character makes me smile and light-hearted.

It’s a pity that he is the only character who don’t belong to Konoha in my Top 10 rankings who was developed well apart from Gaara.

I loved him from Frame 1 onwards and I sincerely wished Team Taka should be packed up with their ass beaten up mercilessly. And that’s what happened.

Despite being a Jinchurikki, he never bothered to mind his surroundings and filled his heart with love from his over protective Brother alone was nice to watch.

He makes a great Tag Partner with Naruto next to Sasuke. No doubt.

The way Killer Bee treated Team Taka like some annoying flies and his cool and don’t care attitude was top notch. It’s not just with Sasuke, Bee treated Naruto with the same IDGAF attitude at first.

Best Moments:

Lariat punch to Sasuke (TBH, Sasuke deserved it. LOL)

Blasted off every member of Team Taka like a doll

His entire conversation and fight sequence with Kisame (Their banters and exchanges are way too hilarious)

His dynamics with his Elder Brother (God!!!! Whenever Raikage gives him an Iron Claw.... What a hilarious duo!!!!)

9. Hatake Kakashi

Kakashi was my most favourite character when I started the series for simply being ultra-cool with the way he conducted the Bell-Test and taught a valuable lesson for those bratty kids in Team 7 called ‘Team Work’.

Best Moments:

Kakashi vs Obito Hand-to-Hand Combat (the best in the series)

Kakashi in the Gaara retrieval arc (His fight with Itachi & Deidara gave a good start to the shippuden series. His Mangekyou reveal was surprising).

Kakashi & Guy teaming up with Naruto to reveal Obito in a twisty and tragic way. (Kakashi couldn’t handle the truth at all and neither did I)

Kakashi vs Zabuza (That’s when I realized that the series was getting real serious)

8. Jiraiya

Jiraiya was my next favourite to Kakashi during my Part 1 days. His open perversion and his entire dynamics with Naruto was one of the best things during the Chunin Exams arc. Taught Naruto about Chakra Control and about the way of a shinobi by just enduring. Naruto follows this even today.

Best Moments:

Kuchiyose No Jutsu training (Man, I never expected him to push Naruto off the cliff)

Rasengan Training (One of the best arcs in part 1 and it was soo satisfying to see Naruto punching his first Rasengan on Kabuto, He also acted like a quasi parent to Naruto... heartwarming)

Jiraiya Vs Six paths of Pain ( 6 vs 1 was always doomed but still he had the guts of a shinobi and plunged ahead)

7. Uchiha Madara

Geez. What is there to not like him??

Everything he did was absolutely wrong ever since he broke up with Hashirama in a romantic way much similar to how couples break up in my country.

I am an Uchiha. You are a Senju. I wish it had been different.

This roughly translates to how 75% of lovers break up and marry someone else from their own clan in my state. (Duh!!!)

I am from XXX clan, you are from XXX clan. So we can’t love each other and my parents won’t accept this relationship. So let’s break up.

Alright, my first shipping couple in this series is HashiMada for this exact reason. (I started shipping SNS only after episode 478).

Just like Hashirama, Madara had an extensive build up right from episode 1 where Kurama compares Sasuke with Madara. And flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi spiked my curiosity and I wanted to see his face so badly ever since.

But the moment he landed gracefully like a diva in episode 321.... Woaahhhh!!!! He literally danced in the battlefield and ate up 100′s of guys with just a fucking Sharingan.

Best Moments:

Going Shirtless before 1000′s of people with Hashirama’s face, no less (Well, I literally went heart-eyed for 5 minutes. Sorry Sasuke, your ancester was way much sexier than you in the Orochimaru hideout and beats you by a million points).

Screaming Hashirama’s name like a cockatoo for 300 times even till the very end (Sorry Naruto, your obsession towards Sasuke for about 6 arcs is pale in comparison to Madara’s obsession which was established in just 6 or 7 episodes.)

I have 25 clones now. Do you want me to put Susanoo or not? You can’t answer. The answer is yes. (Man, his I don’t give a fuck attitude is just an alien level thing)

Openly admitting Only Hashirama Can Beat Me (Say what you will about Sasuke, Madara has no qualms about accepting his inferiority in terms of power. An absolute Straight Forward diva-queen)

Awakening Sharingan for breaking up with his ‘friend’ rather than for his 3 dead brothers. (Geez, Poor Soul. He is the forefather of a Romantic Uchiha. That romantic blood still flows in Sasuke)

6. Senju Hashirama

Man, I would have placed him somewhere in top 5 if only he was introduced early or had more scenes. I started watching Naruto only because of this very name. There is a local podcaster in my state who goes under the alias of Senju Hashirama and in his podcasts, he hinted about this character and how he was inspired by his ideals. I just googled and saw that this character belonged to Naruto series and I considered watching it. Here I am, making analysis on that very series.

There was this excellent build up for him right when we got introduced to Captain Yamato. He was constantly referred in flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi especially.

But the moment he was reanimated again..... Geez..... It was an hilarious ride all throughout. Out of all the flashbacks we got from this series, Founders Era flashback was my absolute favourite.

From where I come from, we are still under the stupid influence of Clan infrastructure and are not growing up in many aspects like people in western countries do. For me, I hope, one day, someone like Senju Hashirama appears in our state and change our lives for better by uniting all clans as one and treats everyone equally without the shitty favouritism for their own children, friends, parents, siblings.

That’s why this dialogue struck a thunder in my heart

“Be they a friend.... Be they a sibling.... Be it even my own child. I will not forgive anyone who threatens the village.”

Because the clan leaders in our place are absolutely selfish, trash bastards who serves their own needs with no regards for other people from other clans. For a person like me, Hashirama is not just a fictional hero, he is someone who many aspires to become. No wonder that podcaster chose this name as his alias.

He rightfully deserved the title ‘God of Shinobi’. And no one can surpass him, not even Naruto.

Best Moments:

Wood Style vs Eternal Mangekyou sharingan + Kurama powered Madara (He just beats Madara’s ass by a wide margin. This shows he was a whole fucking different level than Naruto + Sasuke combined. In terms of strength, nobody surpassed him YET. Sorry Naruto and Sasuke, you guys are no match even now with your Rinnegan and Kurama lost forever).

His entire banters with Madara (ROFLLLL. Without him, it would have been just another lifeless arc.)

5. Senju Tobirama

Hmmm, let me tell you something about him.

First off, he is not a racist or fascist as many hardcore Sasuke fanatics claims. He is one of the best hokages according to me. He is abso-fucking-lutely practical, rational, logical and holds no grudge. And Sasuke resembles Tobirama with all these characteristics as compared to soft and naive Naruto. If only he had more screen time, he would be easily in my top 3.

Just because he didn’t lick the boots of Uchiha (many people’s favorite clan or may I say the only clan that was given any shit about in this series), it doesn’t make him a racist or fascist.

No, he never persecuted the Uchihas. Danzo, the crass bastard, driven off the Uchihas only after the Kyuubi incident. It was explicitly mentioned in the databook and was clearly explained in the series.

He literally gave the highest position in the village for the entire clan. That is, a military power inside a military village. ‘Shinobi who can cause crimes can only be stopped by shinobi who are even better’. In my state, if a powerful clan decided to persecute another clan, they simply start by cutting off basic amenities like Water and Electricity. Compared to what I’ve seen, Tobirama did nothing but given the Uchihas, the highest position in their village.

Orochimaru only said giving such a power made them conceited (arrogant). Tobirama had a trusted subordinate called Kagami, an Uchiha in his team. He suggested Kabuto to help Sasuke and even teleported him on his request. He even spited Madara for killing Sasuke, an Uchiha. He openly claimed Uchiha clan exceeds Senju in terms of Love. He openly appreciated Itachi and Kagami as someone who sees beyond their clan. In what world, would a racist or fascist do all this for a clan he hates???

Yes, he was cautious of Sasuke at first because he saw him with Orochimaru and even went full-on battle mode because of Sasuke’s carefree threat to destroy the village. But once he decided to go to the battlefield to fight Madara, he simply forgot everything that happened before and started to work with him as a comrade, and even helped him twice. In which world, a racist or fascist behave this way?

Believe me, a person like me who was grown with these clan politics surely can say who is a fascist. He was not. He was just cautious of them because of their ability to attain superpowers with just emotions alone. Let me ask you all this, ‘Would you be okay with people getting crazy powers whenever they are depressed?’. Being cautious is not racism. It really disrespects people who faced real oppression under fascism.

What Madara and Danzo did was a classical example of fascism.

And No, Izuna didn’t die only because of Tobirama. He died because Madara was too arrogant to instigate war with Senju clan. And this was way before forming Konoha. If Tobirama killed Izuna after the alliance between Uchiha and Senju, I would agree that he was a racist. Izuna lost his life just like any other Uchiha and Senju soldiers in that battlefield.

Just because he shitted your beloved ‘Sasuke-Kun’ doesn’t mean he is a racist too. Tobirama saw Sasuke along with that scoundrel Orochimaru who once used this very two hokages to destroy the very village they strived hard to create and protect. What will you do, if you were in his place?? Please don’t lie and say ‘I wouldn’t be judgemental’.

And Imagine you are Tobirama, Sasuke is threatening to commit genocide against the entire village who had no idea about this coup detat instead of going against those old hags. Will you sit quiet as a Hokage??

He was the first person to suggest his brother, Itama, that Revenge against Uchihas are futile. All we need is an agreement to make truce. That gave the idea for Hashirama to pursue his dream. And Tobirama was happy to follow that dream and very supportive.

It’s because of all these reasons I placed him above Senju Hashirama.

Best Moments:

Amazing power display against Sasuke & Co with just an index finger (It was a pleasure to see everyone’s face trembling with mild sweat including Sasuke).

Acted as a decoy to save his young subordinates. (The way he sacrificed his life saying young wills of fire must be protected is just Woow!! I wish his subordinates listened to his words and passed the mantle to the younger ones rather than playing game at such an old age and screwed up many lives. Pfft!!!)

Any time he says ‘Shut Up’ to Hashirama (ROFL)

His absolute ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude to Naruto, Sasuke, Hashirama, Minato and Madara (He trolled them all mercilessly and I love it)

4. Senju Tsunade

It hurts me to say that Tsunade is the only female character in my list because every other female characters were written in a much more piss poorly way. Only Konan came close to Tsunade but her role was very short.

Despite her character’s purpose revolved around another male character (Dan) and a blatant objectification of her breasts, I liked everything about her other than those mentioned above.

She is the Second Best Hokage who took Konoha right after the destruction made by Orochimaru, excellently handled the aftermath by making friendly relations with Suna (Sand village), provided her best medical support to Konoha in the Pain Arc and successfully handled the fourth Shinobi world war.

She is such a badass who developed her own original jutsu called Byakugou no Jutsu, which can heal herself.

She is just way too amazing and it’s a pity that we got very less scenes in Shippuden.

Best Moments:

Took 25+ stabs from Madara’s Susanoo like a piece of cake (Man, I simply couldn’t describe that scene. All the other Kages were shocked and even Madara too)

Lifted her advisors like a cabbage sack (Those fucking old hags deserved it. Those shits should’ve died)

Her index finger flick assault on Naruto (Aww, Naruto was definitely bratty in his first meeting and Tsunade didn’t hold back at all)

Played Orochimaru like a basketball (In that same arc, she fought Orochimaru mercilessly like a devil left and right. Someone who claimed to have surpassed Tsunade never even dared to fight Orochimaru’s student and crying for his attention after just receiving one stab from Madara. Just saying)

3. Uzumaki Naruto

Naruto is the titular character and your emotions evolve along with him. He surely deserves a spot in Top 3. The only reason I didn’t place Naruto even more higher is because he didn’t experience something very important which many characters in this list faced. That is, Losing a loved one before his eyes. Every villain in this series became what they are because they lost someone important before their eyes like Nagato, Obito. (Nope, I don’t count Neji as his loved one). I think this tests the mettle of any character and Naruto failed to experience this. The only person he ever lost was Jiraiya and that too from off-screen. That’s why I felt his journey to his dreams seemed little easier compared to the rest of the characters.

His best block of episodes will always be the part 1 Episode 1, 2, 3. Episode 1 is the character defining episode for Naruto and what he learned there will be applied everywhere till the very end of the series. He learned 3 things

Forgiveness, Empathy and Acceptance

Talk-No-Jutsu

Kage Bunshin no Jutsu

From then on, this boy wins many friends to his side, not only from Konoha but from other villages too and even made them to acknowledge his strength only through his sheer hard work.

However, there is this person, whose acknowledgement he wants the most. That person is his most important bond along with Iruka Sensei. He is none other than Sasuke. One day, Sasuke left him alone for some unavoidable reason at the end of part 1 which left a huge scar in him and he vows to bring him back to the place where he belongs. That becomes his ultimate goal rather than becoming an Hokage.

The way he goes to any extent to protect the people he cares about is just simply entertaining to watch.

Every time he makes an heroic entry to save the day was never boring, not once.

Best Moments:

Sobbing from his heart after hearing Iruka Sensei acknowledging him (It just makes me feel heavy for no reason. The anime team did an awesome job to capture his emotions convincingly)

Awakening Kyuubi Mode for the first time after seeing Sasuke die in his arms (Man, out of all the collective hatred he got from the villagers, this moment affected him a lot speaks volumes)

Punching Neji from the underground to win the Chunin exams (God, I honestly believed Naruto lost but he just surprised us heavily from nowhere. And that failure speech was just pure bliss to watch even today)

Pain Vs Naruto (One of the best arc for Naruto. Because unlike other arcs, where Naruto fought with a team, this arc he was all alone fighting a person with Rinnegan. Be it the exuberant landing from the frogs with a dramatic kabuki music, creating multi-step attacks, coming up with novel solution in that difficult situation, finally ending the conflict without killing the enemy, becoming an hero. Superb journey. The only thing I didn’t like in that arc is some shitty selfish proposal. PUKE!!)

Bearing the burdens of his most important person and die along with him (This boy always shouts he will never die until he becomes an Hokage. But for Sasuke, he was ready to die along with him in order to not leave him alone proves how much he loves him. This shows his emotional maturity rather than shouting at Sasuke like he always did before which never reached his ears. This time it did)

Final Good Bye to Minato (Honestly, I was bawling just like Naruto in that scene no matter how many times I watch it. It started out slow but as he speaks more and more, he simply couldn’t hold back and wept a sea of tears 😭😭😭)

2. Uchiha Sasuke

One of the well written characters in this series, with all the flaws and positive stuffs which makes him more of an Anti-Hero. He always subverts my preformed opinions and never ceased to surprise me.

Despite being aloof and cold, his warmer side will always be exposed towards Naruto. This is evident by many things he had done for Naruto which he don’t have to or no reason to. Starting right from roasting Sakura, offering lunch, asking for tips, enquiring about breakfast, protecting him many times and dying for Naruto.

Why I placed him above Naruto is because of his unavoidable decision to tread in a complicated dark path primarily due to the trauma he carried and was stirred up again by collective factors such as Orochimaru’s cursed seal, Itachi’s arrival and Naruto’s growth. Compared to Sasuke, Naruto had an easier path because he never saw anyone die before his eyes and hence he don’t carry any trauma which can divert his path.

Even after watching his entire clan and family members murdered before his eyes at an age 8, he managed to pull himself and never snapped out like many other good characters does. But the moment when he found out that Itachi was good all along, he simply couldn’t tolerate the truth and gave himself to Vengeance. Because, he loved his brother more than he hated him all these years. This shows he loved his brother more than his parents. His resolve to destroy Konoha was perfectly understandable. But is it good? Nope. He can kill Danzo and those old hags but killing other people was never justifiable.

But still, his resolve to have his vengeance was diverted by Naruto and weakened by Itachi, at some point. So, he decided to know the truth and when he heard it, he understood the Hokages also sacrificed many precious things to protect this village just like his Brother Itachi. He understood the mistakes of his clan and decided to protect the village which he swore to destroy. [Many Sasuke fanatics think that he succumbed to the Government and Kishi wrote Sasuke to bootlick them. Their idea was to tackle genocide with another genocide. What a stupid idea!!!!]

And No, I don’t consider him trying to kill Sakura, Karin and Kakashi as his bad moments (though I feel bad for Karin). For the simple reason being, he became a monster by losing himself in the darkness who lost the rationality to differentiate friends from foes. Much similar to how Naruto lost himself to Kyuubi’s hatred against Orochimaru and in Pain Arc. It’s so hypocritical to ignore Naruto and accuse Sasuke here. Plus, Sakura had no business to be there otherwise Sasuke would not have tried to kill her.

But does it mean Sasuke did nothing wrong???

Nope.

He definitely shouldn’t have joined Akatsuki and hunted Killer Bee like an animal. Because, he knew that Tobi was the one who helped Itachi massacre the clan. When fighting Itachi he specifically vowed to kill Madara (Tobi). On top of that, Itachi passed on Amaterasu in his eyes specifically to stay away from Tobi. Why did he ally with him? Plus, Sasuke was one of the few characters who was exposed to the name ‘Akatsuki’ in part 1 itself. He clearly knew that this organization targets Naruto, his closest bond. Why did he join there? This is where the stupid part of Sasuke came out. I was grunting... ‘Oii Where did that clever Sasuke, who faced 1000 soldiers without killing any of them, went??’.

And his plan for Revolution???? I thought it would be reasonable. But his vision was eerily similar to Danzo’s vision. Grrr..... Danzo also wanted to create his ideal village by destroying the current Hokage. He wanted to unite the Five Village and put himself on top of everyone as evident from the Kage Summit arc.

I appreciate him that he finally adopted the Will of Fire, by wanting to protect the village at all costs just like Itachi and Hashirama did. But his methods are not very democratic. Plus, he wanted to do it alone. I was screaming at him... ‘Grrr, Sasuke, did you listen to Itachi at all???. He failed because he did everything alone. Why can’t you understand????’ This is also another instance, Sasuke’s stupidity glanced out.

I am happy Naruto knocked some sense into him by telling him not to do it alone but together.

Many fanatics also ask, ‘What did Sasuke do wrong to atone for his sins at the end?’.

I was like ‘Reallly????’

He joined Akatsuki, an organization which terrorized all the 5 villages and he hunted someone like an international criminal.

He spoiled the Kage Summit and attacked Raikage who lost his arm because of him. I know what happened over there is not Sasuke’s fault. But these are the kages who was loved by many people in their own villages. How can the world forget it and simply let him go?

It’s exactly because of all those lovely stuffs he did in Part 1 and all these mistakes he did in Part 2 but willing to correct his mistakes by sharing the burdens of his other half in the end made him more interesting, complicated and exciting and that’s why I love this character.

I also have a personal bias to love this character sooo much because of the character on top of my list.

Best Moments:

Defending Naruto before Sakura (Awww!!! Such a good boy he was. Eventhough I thought he was a typical arrogant K-Drama hero, he just subverted my opinion in that one scene. I always have a thing for people who stands up for someone even though they don’t have to. This is where I started to like Sasuke)

My body moved on its own. (Is there anything that trumps this scene in terms of emotions and love in this series?. This moment is where I understood the depth of Sasuke’s emotions towards Naruto).

What is a Clan? What is a Village? What is a Shinobi? (I was really hoping for Sasuke to question himself something similar to this. Because he was so self-absorbed in his hatred and failed to look outside him ever since he left the village. It was so gratifying that he did that)

Killing Orochimaru (I always thought Sasuke will kill him only after he tries to take over the body. Never imagined that he will strike the snake first)

Killing Danzo (Man, what an amazing battle!!!. It was so gratifying to see such a crass bastard die many times over and over).

His dramatic confession through his monologue (After the mystery of Who is this Tobi, Sasuke’s obsession towards Naruto remained a mystery for me. Why did he listen to Naruto under the bridge? Why did he protected Naruto in the War? I got the answer only after this confession. It was so heartwarming to see this mellow side of Sasuke)

1. Uchiha Itachi

I could write pages about him. The foremost reason I like Itachi and earns the top spot in my rankings is because he shockingly resembled me in many ways. As I already said, I come from a place where clan politics plays a major role and when I see Sasuke’s flashback in part 1, I was simply dumbstruck by such a detailed similarities.

Elder child of the family - ✅

Have an adorable younger sister who loves me more than my parents - ✅

Same age gap (5 years) with my sister as Itachi and Sasuke - ✅

Parents paying total attention on me while ignoring my sister completely - ✅

Parents constantly comparing my achievements with my sister - ✅

A sister who bear hugged me every time I entered the home after returning from my school - ✅

Despite my mom being a teacher, my sister always prefers me to teach her stuffs as she considers me to be way too better than my mom - ✅

Love my sister more than my parents - ✅

Clan-Obsessed parents - ✅

Used me as a tool for the benefit of the clan - ✅

Sending another person from my clan to spy on me - ✅

Strained relationship with my parents - ✅

Disgusted with my clan - ✅

Most importantly, this dialogue from part 1 episode 129,

Clan? Clan?

Obsessed with the organization, Obsessed with the clan, Obsessed with the name, that’s merely the detestable action that restrict yourself.

I have given up all hope in this worthless clan

Because, people obsess themselves to their clan, a thing so petty, they lose sight of the things that are truly important.

A real change cannot occur under restraints and controls

I confronted my parents with the exact same dialogue (almost 98% similar) in my own native language some years ago.

I didn’t even know the existence of Naruto series at that time. I was simply shell-shocked by all these similarities with this character.

And Yes, The moment I heard these dialogues, I knew Itachi, was a good guy, who had a very strong reason for his actions and I instantly knew Sasuke’s revenge will not bear him any happiness.

It is exactly because of all these striking similarities of myself with Itachi, and my lil’l sister with Sasuke, my family dynamics with the Uchiha family.... I could understand the magnitude of Sasuke’s love towards Itachi.

And precisely because of that, I could understand Sasuke’s love towards Naruto is not fucking ‘brotherly’ one but something that leans towards Attraction.

No wonder, Itachi left Sasuke in Naruto’s care.

Anyways to speak objectively,

Itachi is an extremely self-sacrificial person whose life is full of pain and miseries but never blames it on the world unlike other Uchiha members like Madara, Obito and Sasuke to an extent.

He did things considering the bigger picture which never benefitted himself in anyway and was willing to go to any extent even at the expense of his own family and his brother’s happiness. That is, Uchiha Clan Massacre and Joining Akatsuki. None of this benefitted him in anyways but he did it anyway, for the village of Konoha.

His ideals are shockingly similar to Hashirama, Which Sasuke pointed this out and Hashirama acknowledged that Itachi was a better shinobi than he was. ❤️❤️❤️

Now, does this means I support Uchiha clan massacre?

No way. Even Itachi didn’t.

This massacre happened because of the huge clusterfuck from Hiruzen’s incompetence, Danzo’s paranoid arrogance, Uchiha clan’s devious plan to over throw the government by force rather than approaching it in a peaceful way, say, a peace talk or a protest.

All these people acted on their own self-interest. Itachi and Shisui caught in their whirlpool, bear their burdens and paid for it with their life. Sasuke suffered for it.

But, it’s not the only reason I love this character. It’s because, the moment he decided to massacre everyone, he marked his own death by the hands of his beloved brother. I love people who owns up their mistakes and face the consequences rather than making excuses (even though it’s not entirely his mistake).

Itachi is also the only character in this series who realized his failures on his own without anyone’s interference or Naruto’s Talk-No-Jutsu.

And he apologized for everything he did to Sasuke.

Again, some hardcore Sasuke fanatics criticize/hate him for torturing their poor ‘Sasuke-Kun’ with his Tsukuyomi. I was like ‘Hmmm...What?’.

First off, Itachi apologized to Sasuke for not thinking out from his point of view and also for not telling him the truth earlier.

Second off, Sasuke never even blamed Itachi for anything (even he didn’t hold him for killing their parents). If Sasuke himself, forgiven Itachi... Why are his fans being so rabid?

Third off, for all of his supposed ‘crimes’, he paid for it by dying as a disgraceful Madman rather than a Hero who really saved the village. He is someone who should be celebrated like Naruto but instead died proudly as a Traitor of Konoha.

All in all, One of the wonderfully written character I have ever seen in the media.

Best Moments:

Itachi vs Sasuke (That battle was a pure brilliance and highly emotional especially after knowing the truth. When Sasuke released his Kirin, Itachi showed off his ultimate armour Susanoo like a badass. Seeing Susanoo for the first time gave me chills. No, Sasuke didn’t kill him. Itachi died on his own)

Itachi vs Orochimaru (Man, Itachi may look mellow but when it comes to Orochimaru he is a pure Sass. He screwed that snake up both the times by a wide margin. It seems Uchiha brothers like to fuck up Orochimaru, LOL)

Talk-No-Jutsu’ing Naruto (Geez, Naruto was being completely bratty and was full of saviour complex like he was going to bear everyone’s hatred by himself. I was almost annoyed. Thanks to Itachi, he realised. Probably he is the only character to shut Naruto using his own jutsu)

Izanami’ing Kabuto (Other than Naruto, he is the only character to go out of his way to empathize with a villain and put extreme effort to change him. I think this is why Sasuke loves Naruto, for seeing these similarities??? ).

Goodbye to Sasuke (The first time when he said ‘Forgive me, Sasuke. This is the last’ by poking his forehead and finally closing the distance by butting with Sasuke’s head softly saying ‘I will love you always’.... It always evokes uncontrollable tears in me, no matter how many times I watch it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭)

Uchiha Obito

God, Am such a sucker for Uchiha guys individually, though collectively as a clan they fucked up big time. I simply couldn’t find the place for him in the top 10. He is a classic example of What Naruto will be like if he becomes a villain?

However, all those horrible stuffs he did just for a girl whom he had a crush on which was never reciprocated seems childish. That’s why I couldn’t put him in Top 10.

And his understandable but weird obsession on Naruto was always enjoyable to watch.

One cute thing I liked about him was, whatever criminal stuffs he may have done, he was never a cheapskate though. He had every chance to take back Kakashi’s Sharingan to activate his own Susanoo. But he never even thought of such an idea. He was a bad guy. But a good friend, no matter what.

Pure Baby!!! But lost his way!!!

Best Moments:

I... I don’t often call out anyone specifically using social media before, but... I saw this among the reblogs in my first post about MXTX novels English release announcement and I feel that this is just too much...

I’m not going to tag this with the fandom tags because this is literally just my personal rant, and I don’t want unpleasant things to appear when people are happily browsing the tags.

I also censored the person’s blog name. It’s not like I want people to mass attack them.

But I do have some things I want to say about this kind of mindset.

And this is gonna be a long post, so I’ll cut it with "Read More” later below as not to disturb anyone’s browsing experience.

Why do they have to split the books into multiple volumes?

First, you do realize that the original Chinese version and other languages versions are also in multiple volumes that don’t always be published on the same date, right?

SVSSS has 3 volumes, MDZS has 4 volumes, TGCF has 5 volumes.

With the English release, both SVSSS and MDZS get +1 volume while TGCF gets +3 volumes.

Why you ask?

Have you ever considered how long a single Chinese word would be if written in alphabets?

The word “人” in Chinese only needs 1 (one) character, while in English it would translate to “P E O P L E” = 5 (five) characters.

The word “知己” in Chinese only needs 2 (two) characters, while in English it would translate to “C O N F I D A N T E” = 10 characters, or “S O U L M A T E” = 8 characters.

Now apply this to an entire novel. FYI, TGCF has more than 1 million word count in Chinese, so you can do the math by yourself.

I mean, just go watch the donghua or live action in YouTube. One single sentence in the Chinese sub is often translated to two or more lines in the English subtitle.

And I’m going to repeat this once again: In China and other countries that already get their official releases, it is also NOT always all released on the same date as a single set/box.

So yes, (not) surprise! For the Chinese release and official releases in other countries, you also often need to purchase multiple times, pay shipping fee multiple times, and wait for certain period of times until all volumes are released.

It doesn’t only happen to MXTX novels, it happens to almost all novels, be it danmei or not.

Why don’t they just wait for translations to finish and release it all at the same time/as a box set? Why the span of two years?

On my part, I already say above that in China and other countries that already get their official release, it’s also not always published all on the same date.

Other than that, I’m not an expert at book publishing, much less when the publisher is not from my own country. But maybe consider the following:

They’re releasing 3 (three) hugely popular IPs all at the same time. Maybe the preparations take more time and effort to ensure everything is flawless?

Since it is very rare (or maybe never, cmiiw) for danmei novels to be published in English, maybe the publisher is testing the market first? Because if they already release them as a huge bundle from the start and it somehow flops, the loss would be very big. If it works well, then good! Maybe for future danmei release, they will consider making a box set or releasing them within shorter timeframe.

In terms of marketing, if they wait another 2 years to release it all at once, will the momentum still be there? You can say “so in the end it’s all about money”, but if not sales number and money, what else should the publisher expect to receive for their work? They’re already putting a lot of effort buying all three IPs from the Chinese publishers, proofread or even translate some from scratch, pay translators, editors, illustrators, printing companies, etc. If it’s not selling well simply because they release it at the wrong time, aren’t all these efforts going to be wasted? And you can bet there will be no more danmei published in English if their first try already flops merely because of losing the momentum.

Are there any other rules or regulations they need to comply that prevents them from releasing everything in one go? But once again, even in China and other countries, it is also not always all released in one go, so this argument is already invalid from the start.

But they make it so expensive like this!

I’m sorry to break it to you, but I’ve compared the prices to MDZS Japanese release + TGCF Thai release and... The price isn’t really that much different.

Btw, I’m using Google’s currency converter, in case anyone wants to know where does my calculation comes from.

Okay, so here’s MDZS Japanese version from CD Japan:

One volume of MDZS Regular ver. cost 1760 yen. This is 15,96 USD before shipping. There’s only like $4 difference.

There’s also the Exclusive ver. that cost 3660 yen (32,92 USD) but we’re not gonna talk about that because they’re basically making you pay for the bonus, which is some acrylic panels and illustration cards.

Now here’s TGCF Thai version from Sense Book:

One volume of TGCF costs 360 baht. This is 10.77 USD before shipping. So there’s about $9.22 difference.

Again, notice the difference of word/sentence length in the Thai words and English alphabet.

"But there’s still difference in price and other releases usually gets merchandise!” - Correct me if I’m wrong, but the US is probably one of the most expensive countries in the world. Do you think the materials, printings, and manpower cost is the same with other countries? Especially compared to one in Southeast Asia.

“But it’s xxxx times more expensive than the original Chinese version!” - Excuse me, the original Chinese version doesn’t need to pay for translators, proofreaders and editors with multilingual skills, and purchase the IPs? If you think it’s more worth buying the Chinese version, then by all means go ahead.

Some last words...

I’m not looking down on those in difficult financial situation, but hey, I’m not filthy rich either? I come from a third world country and even if I’m a working adult, I’m still in working middle class + I got my parents to take care of. My country’s currency is literally just a tiny 0.000069 USD per 1 Indonesian Rupiah.

Every single fandom merchandise that you see me bought, either I’ve saved up for that or I sacrificed other things to buy that. I just don’t show the struggle to you guys because why should I? I’m just here to have fun about the fandom I love, not to flex my struggling financial condition.

These official English release of MXTX novels? All 17 books are going to cost me almost HALF of my monthly salary. But hey, I think it’s a good thing that they didn’t release it all at once, so that I can save up between months to purchase them all and plan my spending better.

If you feel the price is expensive, especially if you have to ship from outside North America, consider the following:

The books’ ISBN numbers are all available in the publisher’s website, just show it to you local bookstore and ask if they can order it for you

Lastly, I know how much love we all have for our favorite fandoms, but remember that fandom merchandise is NOT your primary needs.

You are NOT obliged to purchase any fandom merchandise if you can’t afford it and you should ALWAYS prioritize your primary needs.

Also, if you still want to read the fan-translations that are still available, alright go ahead. But remember that the translators themselves already said fan translations in English are now illegal. You can read it. We all consume pirated contents at one point. But don’t flex about it and diss the official release just because you can’t afford it.

I don’t know if the person who made that reblog tags are going to come at me or not, but even if they do, I literally don’t care. I’m not gonna waste my time arguing with someone with that kind of mindset and will block them right on the spot.

Also Idgaf if they call me out or talk behind my back, I literally don’t know them, so I don’t care.

Debris, Episodes 4 – 8

All right, I’d better write this up right after watching the newest episode or else I’ll never do it.

Firstly, I need to scream about Finola and Bryan’s partnership!

OMG, I love it so much!

I’m not even shipping them – I mean, I can see the potential for it in the future, but I don’t need it.

I just love how they built their relationships starting from not even liking each other then begrudgingly accepting they have to work together, then starting to like each other as they get to know each other, then suspecting one another, and then coming to trust each other over other people.

I knew Bryan had to fess up he knew about George before Finola confronted him and he did and the build up of trust between them since has been beautiful.

I hope it continues that way, even if there might be some snags of distrust yet to overcome, I want them to really become strong partners who can rely on each other no matter what.

Yep, I am highly invested in this partnership. Because I haven’t had a show with this kind of relationship for a long time, I think. And they could be the new Mulder and Scully. I want them to be the new Mulder and Scully. Except Finola would be Mulder and Bryan would be Scully. ;) (I mean, they are even introducing themselves in that order.)

So, their bosses are shitty and obviously both Americans and Brits have ulterior motives and are doing something nefarious behind each other’s backs. (And of course, Maddox is secretly dealing with Russians – which we know but the characters don’t, so that should be fun.)

Speaking of Maddox, Bryan’s relationship with him reminds me a bit of another relationship on another show (@eveningspirit, because you’re also watching, it reminds me a bit of Ward & Garett 😭) and I can’t wait to learn more about how Maddox saved Bryan etc. (And he’s obviously holding it over him and using it to manipulate him.)

And I love that Bryan started off like this cold, reserved guy who just does his job, but it was soon pretty obvious that he wanted to do the right thing (like, it didn’t sit well with him to keep Finola in the dark about George from the start.)

Oops, do I have a new favourite character? I guess I do. (You know, seemingly cold and composed with mysterious/complicated past and sort of morally grey – it’s my type.)

Speaking of, there are a lot of mysterious things happening and they’d built up the tension welt but I hope we soon start getting some answers.

The line from the Influx baddie about how ‘this technology will be free’ was highly intriguing. I mean, obviously Influx are very, very bad, judging from all the stealing debris, kidnapping, murder, and human experimentation, which is probably just the tip of the iceberg. But maybe they have a ‘good’ end goal in mind? Not that that justifies the means, because it doesn’t.

What else? Oh, Sebastian Roche, whose fault it is I’d even heard about this show, appeared in eps 5 and 8! But I hope they give him something to actually do, because so far his acting skills have been completely wasted.

BTW, what even is his persona 2.0, a clone? An alien wearing human skin? Because it appears Agent Brill is dead.

And why is George covering himself with an aluminium foil instead of a blanket? Maybe he’s a clone after all. Or it’s PTSD thing/consequence of reanimation. (Also, I wouldn’t trust Influx to not have lied what they had done to him.)

So many questions, so few (or no) answers.

I see the show is doing poorly ratings-wise, so with my luck it'll probably be cancelled before we get them. Especially considering it's on NBC. Why do I always get invested in shows that have no future? *sigh*

LoT is as chaotic and ridiculous as ever. But I miss Zari 1.0. And it's not the same without Ray. But still good mindless fun to cheer you up.

911 Lone Star, on the other hand, is losing/has lost me (not even Billy Burke can help, especially since his role is lousy). I guess I'll watch the two episodes that are left but I don't think I'll return for S3 even if they get renewed.

Shadow and Bone S1

Okay, FFS, I've been trying to meta for a week but my brain has been mush from the heat and everything.

I was spoiled (did it myself, intentionally) both about the show and the books and the author's opinions and I’m not sure whether I would have liked it better if I hadn’t spoiled myself or even less. I’m leaning towards the latter.

So I've been trying to clarify my mixed feelings and I think I’ve come to the conclusion that what I liked is fandom/fanon + some elements/parts of the show. But on the whole, it was so-so.

(BTW, the books were on my TBR, but I decided I’m not going to read them. I am not here for LB's BS.)

I need to give a shout-out to thank @electricbluebutterflies, who made me ship the ship before I even started watching the show for the second time (the first was bellarke. Oh, boy, do I (or should I say we) have a TypeTM.) There were other people who ‘helped’, but you were the first I saw posting about it on my dash. ;)

(Hmm, I should probably refrain from comparing bellarke and darklina, because that will end nowhere near well. (Or maybe I will in another post if I feel particularly masochistic.))

Anyway, I was bothered by stupid last names’ endings even before watching the show, because LB apparently didn’t take two minutes to google it, or maybe she decided to turn them around for a ‘twist’. Eh.

LB’s world-building also felt cheap and lazy; she basically just copied things from RL and camouflaged them with different names (and badly at that: I mean Ketterdam is obviously Amstedam, Fjerda Finland, and by her own confession Ravka Russia ) while leaving RL attitudes/issues (anti Asian racism being in particularly blatant) intact (with added ‘unique’ feature of prejudice against Grisha, who are basically just a spin on witches, so not so unique at all.)

Also, Slavic ‘representation’ left me lukewarm.

I suppose since nowadays it is distasteful (for white American authors in particularly) to use POC such as Black, Indigenous, and Latino people and their cultures for exoticism, us Slavs are fair game. Oh, well. I guess I should be happy we are no longer portrayed only as gangsters and prostitutes.

But, like I said, the visuals were pretty.

I love Darklina, but I think there’s been better meta than I could write already written about both Darklina and the Darkling, so I’m not even gonna try (though I did unload quite a bit in back and forth messaging with @vesperass-anuna) and rather reblog some.

I also really liked Helnik, except the end. It’s perfectly reasonable that Mathias came to the conclusion that Nina played him for revenge, but I did not like his back to ‘you evil witch’ reaction. I guess it’s also reasonable, but it is not the only possible reaction for him, it is what LB chose and that (as other things) says something about her writing.

Mathias is supposedly Fjerda’s best tracker, so he shouldn’t be dumb as a doornail (though it is canon that he’s very prejudiced and apparently he doesn’t grow out of it (so far.))

The other option for the ending would be that he figures she got her vengeance over him and be like, ‘fair enough, I deserved it.’ (Because he does.) It’s been done in other shows and came across much better than the self-righteous first option. And let’s not get into that if it was two men, LB would probably go for the first option, because when a man gives his enemy a taste of his own medicine, it’s lauded, but women are for some reason supposed to be above it, to be ‘better’. Fuck that.

I really liked the crows and would love more of them (but, like I said, I’ve been spoiled about the books, apparently the crows duology also ends badly so I’ll stay away from it.) And I also low-key ship Kaz and Inej (there wasn’t enough of them to do it high-key). Well, there wasn’t enough of the crows, period. They are really intriguing characters and I hope S2 explores them more.

That’s it, I think?

I’m going to stick with fandom/fanon.

Has Bucky Read LOTR?

@eveningspirit asked this important question last week, so it got me thinking.

LOTR was first published in 1954-55. Bucky was in Hydra’s clutches until 2014. I don’t think Hydra provided “the Winter Soldier” with enrichment in form of reading material and if they had, it certainly wouldn’t have been LOTR, a book that goes against everything they stood for.

I don’t know if he had time for reading while on the run, but he could have read it maybe while recovering in Wakanda, though I think he was more busy with overcoming his brainwashing and getting back on his feet.

And if he had read LOTR, wouldn’t he have mentioned that rather than The Hobbit, as it would have been a more recent read (and, arguably, also a greater book)?

I think so.

(BTW, I highly appreciate that Bucky was just as huge a nerd as Steve, since he would have been 20 in 1937 when The Hobbit came out and of course he went and read the new popular kids’ book. ;) (Which I think also means Steve read it, too.))

So, if he hasn’t read LOTR, maybe someone should tell him about it (because he might not even know it exists yet)? And maybe once they are done with the current trip/mission/quest ;), he can take a long, well-deserved vacation and read it.

Although, I wonder, considering the themes in LOTR, would he find it cathartic or triggering?

I’m thinking of depictions of war and fighting from Tolkien’s own WW I experience.

And could he see a parallel between, say, orcs being as fully under Sauron’s command, his puppets as he was Hydra’s?

Would he sympathise with the enslaved people of Harad and Rhun (although, of course, some served Sauron willingly out of greed)?

Maybe he would relate to Aragorn or the Elves who live beyond human years and witness many terrible things as he had and have to go on while people they love die as all his friends his age have died?

Personally, I think Bucky’s closest parallel in LOTR is Théoden, who was under Saruman’s spell for a long time but who recovered and went on to do good and fix what he’d missed while not himself.

Except, of course, I don’t want for Bucky to end up dying a glorious death like Théoden, I want him to live and find happiness and friends and family and get to experience all the things that were stolen from him by Hydra.

Tl;Dr: I think he could have read LOTR, but it’s unlikely he did.

Summary: The young Padawan Cal Kestis joins his master, Jaro Tapal, to a campaign in Kashyyyk in order to give aid to the warring Wookiees against the hostile Trandoshans. During their trip, little Cal meets an unlikely friend that he’ll surely keep it in his memory for time immemorial.

A/N: I so love this prompt because this is the very first time I’ll be writing about smol Cal!! I can imagine all of the sweet, pure fluffiness that transpires in his adventures with Master Tapal and oh good god my Cal Kestis-loving heart will melt into the goopy mess that it is!!! A sweet little angel that must be protected at all costs! Thank you Anon for sending this beautiful prompt to me, I’m really glad you did give it to me because I wouldn’t have made such an adorable story! On a serious note, some of the italicized dialog lines will be the direct translation from Wookiee to the protocol droid’s Galactic Basic—I personally thought it’s redundant and looks like sentence filler to switch between Wookiees speaking and protocol droid when they’re basically saying the same thing to the Basic-speaking characters.

“Good morning, General Tapal,” a clone waiting outside the ship greeted the Jedi.

“Good morning, Captain Prell. Are the preparations done for travel?”

There was a long pause after their exchange. Captain Prell slightly bobbed his head to the side. Normally, he would find a little ginger boy tagging along behind the tall Lasat Jedi.

“Is something wrong, Captain?”

“Err… I was wondering where you little Padawan might be, sir.”

Jaro Tapal looked to his side and then angled to his behind only to find nothing there. He thought he had his Padawan walking close to him ever since they exited the Jedi Temple and walked to the open landing pad. He looked to the path behind him and saw his apprentice being held back by some of his fellow younglings chatting with him.

When the boy saw over his friends’ shoulders that his master was waiting for him, he quickly bade goodbye and came sprinting towards Master Tapal.

“Come along now, Cal, we mustn’t delay,” beckoned Jaro in his prim, baritone voice.

“Coming, Master! Sorry about that,”

“Watch your step now, child,”

“Watch your head, Master!” Cal quipped as he strode on the entry ramp of their shuttle. He was received with a throaty chuckle as Jaro himself enters the vessel.

They make for the cockpit and settle themselves on their seats. The ten-year-old was so small on the chair that he had about five inches of space on both of his sides! Even so, he made himself comfortable and leisurely swung his legs as they prepared for take-off.

“You ever been to Kashyyyk, kiddo?”

“No, what’s it like there, Captain?”

“Well, there’s sure a lot of trees,”

Upon the shuttle’s arrival through Kashyyyk’s stratosphere, Cal’s amazed, widened eyes could not fit the vast, green expanse of the planet; so much so that the color of the landscape has already taken over his natural jade-green irises. His mouth formed into a full O. The sight from above was breathtaking, and he wanted in on every inch they pass over the dense jungles and grand treetops.

The boy leaned forward, struggling to match his height with the windshield of the shuttle in order to get a better view—as if his perspective right now wasn’t satisfactory. He couldn’t control his excitement and hopped on his toes as they zoomed through.

Cal had unintentionally ignored Jaro Tapal’s gentle warnings to come back to his seat in time for the landing.

“Cal, come on now, sit down before the captain lands the ship,”

“The general’s right, kiddo. We don’t want you bumping your head when we land!”

Cal resorted to following both of them. He jumped back into his seat and watched the landing cycle commence. The clone captain flew into one spot in the forest that provided enough coverage from possible threats—especially the Trandoshans—then settled the ship in one section of a Wookiee settlement on the ground—for they are known to dwell in the higher levels of the trees.

A group of Wookiees flocked the landing area with great curiosity about their new visitors, tilting their heads and lowing in conversation with one another. Jaro Tapal and Cal—along with a protocol droid, named KP-475 or Kay-Pee, for translation—exited the ship; when they stepped out of their vessel, they’re greeted by the leader of the settlement, apparently subordinate to Chieftain Tarfful. When the Wookiee spoke in his native language and protocol droid obliged after every sentence.

“Welcome, friends, to our peaceful home. My name is Khevariik, leader of this village.”

“Khevariik welcomes us in their peaceful village,” the protocol droid relayed.

Khevariik offered shelter for Master Tapal, Cal, Captain Prell, and even Kay-Pee. The four obliged and followed the Wookiee—and his warriors flanked them as they walked on. They stayed in a bigger hut situated in one tier of a high tree trunk. Cal’s wonderment hasn’t run out as he discovers that the cottage were connected with sturdy wooden bridges made with the exact same kind of lumber where the Wookiee homes are built with; but it doesn’t stop there—the bridges appeared like an intricate network, connecting from one tree to another, some of them even connected to the higher levels that if one is to look down, it ought to be a fifty-foot drop!

“Watch your step now,” Jaro warned a jittery Cal.

The cottage was relatively larger than the rest of the cottages they spotted outside, Master Tapal assumed that it could have been some sort of council hall and he was correct. Khevariik situated himself at the northerly side of the room, across him sat Master Tapal and Cal—they were offered libations by Khevariik’s mate and they sincerely accepted.

As the Wookiee conversed with the Jedi Master and filled him in on their situation against the Trandoshans, Cal’s attention is elsewhere. He studied the interior of the cottage, how surprisingly well-lit it was—until he counted all the crude sconces on the parapets around and made sense of the brightness in the room. In the corner of his eye, he noticed a couple of the Wookiees seated along the wall shuffling and lowing in a reactive manner.

The boy gasps at the sight of you: a child, more or less in the same age as him. Similar to the Wookiees, you had ornaments adorning your hair—woven, patterned ribbons that snaked along the braid that crowned your head and beads fastened into locks of your hair.

Master Tapal caught wind of his Padawan’s reaction and unintentionally cut his conversation with Khevariik. The Wookiee leader mewled to acknowledge your presence.

“I saw the ship that wasn’t ours, so I figured to take a look,” you reason out.

“You understand them?”

You nodded.

“A human child?”

The Wookiee lowed a series of growl and yelps, to which KP-475 instantaneously translates.

“Khevariik says the child is part of the clan. The real parents have… erm…”

The droid trailed off, it needn’t to continue as it might offend you. You immediately turned the awkward, somber mood around, but only projected your bright, cheeriness to Cal.

“Hey, wanna come play with me?” you beamed to him, not waiting for his answer a second after you asked him. You looked to Khevariik and then to the tall, purple Lasat who is his apparent custodian. You repeated the same permission to both of the adults.

Cal then turned to Master Tapal, in subtext, he was pleading he’d be allowed to go with you. Before Jaro could even say anything, Khevariik allowed you but there was an underlying tone in his growl.

“Yes, I promise. I won’t stray too far!”

“Well, run along now. Just don’t wander too far off then,” Jaro finally caved in and patted Cal’s head, nearly messing up the top of his hair.

“Yeah!”

Cal scrambled up to his feet and immediately joined you on your way to the door—or lack thereof.

“I’m Cal!”

“Name’s [Y/N]!”

You took the lead, of course, and gave your newfound friend a tour of your home. Along the way, Cal bombarded you with a lot of curious questions—you didn’t mind though, because likewise, you had the same curiosities about him as much as he does with you. The path that you’re taking led to one of your personal playgrounds—spots that only you knew of, your precious secret hideaways.

“So, uh, [Y/N],” Cal grunted as he scaled up a short wall. “How did you end up living here?”

“Oh, well, my parents and I went to live here. But when I was, like, seven… some Trandoshan hunters got caught in a fight with my parents. Good thing the Wookiees are a friendly kind and they rescued me. I owed my life to Khevariik and Itaahka, his mate.”

“Must be hard, missing your parents like that,”

“Yeah, it sure is, but… I’m not lonely. I have another family—the Wookiees!”

For some reason, Cal was relieved that you weren’t in your lonesome—given that you’re being taken care of by the Wookiees—but he wondered if you were lonely because you’re not their kind. You balanced on a thick enough branch that crept along the tree trunk as Cal continued his questions in getting to know you better.

“It felt weird at first, though. Sometimes I see people like me talk to Khevariik, but it’s my first time seeing someone really like me—and that’s you!”

You hopped down from the tree trunk and landed right in front of him. Now, it was your turn to ask the questions.

“Do all Jedi children have that braid tail on their hair?”

“O-Oh, yeah but… I’m not called a Jedi—not yet, at least,”

“Well, what do they call you?”

“Kids like me—who are learning to be Jedi when they grow up—are called Padawans,”

“And that tall, purple person is the one teaching you how to be one?”

“That’s right! So… Um, where’ve you taken us, [Y/N]?”

Your eyes lit up. Cal didn’t notice the wall of vines and limp branches that hung downward until you swept them to one side—revealing a large hole in the wall; it appeared more to be the mouth of a cave, but when he peeked over your shoulder, he didn’t see a cave, rather he saw a slope.

“What’s through there?”

“Oh,” you started in a singsong manner. “You’ll see!”

You turned tail and let yourself drop into the slope. Your whoop of enjoyment echoed and then faded out, leaving Cal in the starting side while you’ve already gotten to the other end.

“Come on, Cal!” your faceless voice called through the mudslide.

Cal angled his entire body slight sideways, his knees buckled, and his ankles locked on. Clumps of damp soil flew and sputtered upon his wake as he slid down. The thrill eventually brought out the laughter in him, all the way until he plopped and landed on his bottom, over a soft carpet of grass.

It would appear that you’ve brought him into a thicket. You called the mudslide your portal to your secret hideout.

“Whooaaa…!” Cal gasped as his pupils widened, absorbing all the sights, lights, and colors that pooled the entire thicket. “This place… is amazing!”

“You think? I found it months ago and no one else knows about it—well, except for you!”

He slowly brought himself up to his feet, eyes still fixated at the entirety of the little paradise, and then dusted off the shreds of grass and dust that clumped on the hem of his tunic.

“Let’s keep this our secret, yeah?” you chirped.

“Of course! My lips are zipped!”

You hold out your hand in front of him, only your pinky finger is sticking out. Cal looked at your hand quizzically and then to you for some clarification.

“Pinky promise?” you initiated.

In response, Cal hooked his own pinky finger with yours, sealing the promise.

“Pinky promise!”

With your pinky fingers intertwined, the two of you shook on it as well—bobbing your tangled hands up and down until one of you withdrew. Your curiosity seemingly has no end, and you continued to bombard Cal with questions about the Jedi and how their way of life works differently from the one you’ve come to know.

He demonstrated his skill in using the Force—this was the very first time you saw someone move an object without touching them! Your eyes popped with wonderment, watching Cal manipulate a bunch of rocks simply by waving his hands slowly—to you, it felt like his arms were dancing—and he willed them to stack on top of each other until he made a small mound of them.

“Wow…” you sighed, staring at the neatly-arranged, miniature mountain of rocks that your new friend has made without ever touching a single one of them with his own hands!

The boy was rather proud of himself that he’s able to impress you, but you didn’t allow him to one-up you in your own home turf.

“My turn to show you something cool! You know how fireflies only light up at night?”

“Yeah?”

“Well, what I’m about to show you says otherwise!”

He followed you further into the thicket, the sunlight was gradually getting dimmer; it began to worry him when he looked back and noticed that you’re getting a bit farther from where you came from. You reassured him that you know this place better than the back of your hand. There was another enclave in front of you, sunlight still pooled through the canopy of the trees, shafts of light spotlighted in random parts of the forest, however a vast majority of the space remained untouched by the sun—not too dim, not too light either, it was the right amount of shade.

“What’s so special about a boulder?”

“Hah! It’s just not any boulder,” you boasted. With all your might, you hauled away the boulder and out comes an entire colony of Light Beetles—the more docile subspecies of Flame Beetles—and they filled the entire forest clearing, despite the broad daylight! They scattered around the air and lit up the clearing like live stars. The two of you were practically standing in their own field.

Truth be told, you seldom did this—because of the varying days and weather—but apparently today was a perfect day to show it to Cal, almost as if the galaxy permitted it, simply to humor your free and innocent spirits. The little, redhead boy spun around slowly, taking all in the sight of the Light Beetles fluttering and floating about in the dim space like a planetarium.

“This is so awesome! Look at that!” your new friend squeaked, and one Light Beetle hovered close to Cal’s nose—its natural bioluminescent light pooled on the boy’s cheeks and face, warranting a delighted giggle out of him.

On the other hand, you carefully caught the little buggers in your hand, let them fly free as soon as you unclasped your hands and watch them flicker their bulbous buttocks as soon as they realize they’re out of their temporary net. The two of you stayed there for a while, Cal almost forgot that they have a campaign to deal with—it’s just that this is the most genuine fun he’s had for as long as he can remember.

Both of you did all sorts of games to pass the time. As a matter of fact, you’ve played more games than you could care to admit that you and Cal lost track of time. The two of you regained your bearings and realized that you’ve taken long enough in your playtime when you heard a calling roar, followed by the sound of Jaro Tapal’s voice.

“[Y/N]! Cal! Come here!”

“Oop, there goes our fun!” you squealed.

Both youngsters hauled themselves back up on their feet, and walked up to a wall of vines. The two of you were fortunately able to scale the wall and have something to grab on, at least, until you’ve reached the top from where the Wookiee scout and Jaro Tapal have called you.

“Come on, it’s time for us to go,”

“Already?!” Cal objected.

Taken aback and surprised by his amplified fondness of the place, Jaro Tapal slightly angled his head to his Padawan and raised an eyebrow for good measure.

“We still have to report back to Coruscant to tell the Council of the situation here in the Wookiees’ home,”

Seeing that he can’t argue with that, Cal was left to go along with his master’s plan. Eventually, Khevariik personally saw Master Tapal, Cal, their clone captain, and the protocol droid to the landing pad; this time, you tagged along from the high level cottage to the surface level where their ship was situated in.

There was bitter taste in Cal’s mouth. He didn’t want to leave yet, the high of the fun was still coursing through his veins—as well as yours—Cal took a moment and walked back to you, standing in front of the cluster of Wookiees who lent their presence—besides Khevariik and Ihtaaka—to bid goodbye to their visitors.

“Well, I guess this is goodbye,”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll see each other again—and we’ll have the same tons of fun like we did earlier!” you chirped.

You spot him make a sniffle and heard him out, “Yeah, I guess. I’ll look forward to that, [Y/N]!”

“Great! Oh, before you leave…”

Cal noticed you unfastening one of the colored cords that added color to your hair. You leaned closer and tied it at the end of his Padawan braid.

“Here, something to remember me by once you leave,”

“Thanks, [Y/N]. I wish I could give you something in return,”

You shake your head and pursed your lips, “No need. I’ve had tons of fun with you—that’s more than enough. It sure was nice to have some company in my secret hideout for once and I’m glad it was you!”

BRACCA, 8 YEARS LATER

Cal—now a young man—stood atop the wing of a salvaged Venator, overlooking the scrapyard that his eye could see. The drizzle was gradually ending and the sun persisted to peek through the dense mixture of post-rain haze and the heavy, cumulonimbus clouds that loomed along the skyline of the landscape.

It was midday, he basked in the rising sun and its warmth as he dries himself from the rainwater that collected on his face. When the rays have beamed strongly through the clouds, Cal shielded his eyes from the light with his hand; the corner of his eye watched the bracelet on his right hand dangle in the wind.

He lowered his hand and gazed upon the band that was once so full of vibrant, dyed colors has now faded or grayed out from the grease and dust that Cal has been exposed to in the scrapyard.

“Here, something to remember me by…” the voice of your younger self echoed in his mind.

His free hand involuntarily went to his wrist, his thumb ran across the cord—the luster of the fibers have aged, the loose ends of the string have puffed out into messy tufts, and it ran coarse under the skin of his finger.

Behind his eyes, he reminisces and reimagines the rich, green vastness of Kashyyyk from a bird’s-eye view, the melodies of your laughs mingling together so well like music, the cold wind reminded him of the air that flew through his hair when he slid down that mudslide leading to the thicket that seemed so surreal even for Kashyyyk’s standards, and finally, the distant sparks of the mechanics’ and engineers’ tools reminded him of the twinkling Light Beetles that filled the clearing where the two of you stood to gaze at the wonder of those insects.

The whole memory warranted a private smile, as he remembers everything vividly, it’s as if it happened yesterday and the nightmare that is the Jedi Purge never happened at all.

I wonder when can I see you again, [Y/N]? Cal thought to himself, with the faintest pitter-patter of the remaining rain.

“Hey, Cal, you comin’?!” a male voice called to him from the safer surfaces of their work area.

“Yeah, Prauf, I’m comin’! Just gimme a sec,”

“Alright, well, I’ll meet ya down,”

“Sure!”

When Cal confirmed that Praud has indeed gone out of sight, he returned his eyes to the horizon, the wind combing through his fiery red hair.

“I hope you’re doing okay, wherever you are, [Y/N],” he muttered under his breath and a smile naturally came to him, as if reassuring himself that you’re in a good place, though he misses you so much and wishes that he can return back to the same bliss of his childhood with you.

Ship bingo: Anne Boleyn & Henry VIII (I know, I'm not the most original person in this site); and Eleanor Cobham & Humphrey of Gloucester

Hey hey sorry for answering this shipbingo so late hh. Hope you’ll still be interested in my odd and headcanon-y analyses. Since you requested 2 I will write shorter comments if ur ok with that :) x

Anne Boleyn & Henry VIII

‘I broke England from the Church yeah I really am that secksy’ or something along the lines is said by Anne’s character in Six: The Musical. I sorta resent that. I’m not very passionate about this ship nor do I take any ‘sides’, but I must admit I’m more partial to Catherine of Aragon and consider her to be Henry’s true love. The odd thing is, this is also cause a part of my feels like Anne was in some ways to good/evolved for him?? We all know the whole seductress Anne trope or poor set-up pawn Anne, we don’t know which are true but one thing we know for sure is that there was ‘pious outspoken religious reformer Anne’ and that’s what I am more interested in. My admiration grew 1000x when I realised she was heavily critical with where the desolution of the monastery funds were going - how they enriched ministers and lackeys of Henry as opposed to going towards schools. I say all this because my mental Anne Boleyn might be a bit different from most people’s and that will influence how I also see this ship.

I guess the above paragraph explains the ‘I’m picky about it part’, I hate anything that is major baby drama. Delicious and intrigued are oddly left out because I don’t really feel that myself though I understand why others would. It is perhaps because it’s such an overportrayed relationship and because by the time it became a thing Henry was already kind of obese I believe. Sue me, I like both my ship parties to be attractive XD. I would read fic for it just like I would read anything provided it is well written enough. I’m currently reading ‘Chained in War and Love’ by Lady Perserverence on AO3 (you know that one really famous fic in the Tudor fandom) which I suppose counts but since it’s a Francois I of France/Anne Boleyn AU I guess it doesn’t count (and I much prefer this pairing). This ship is one of those historical pairings where it’s hard to deny it was not romantic and sexual, one must remember that there must have been something about Anne in particular that attracted Henry and her educational background was unusually worldly for a woman of minor English nobility, given the fact that she could very well have been 32 (and age which is considered old for motherhood even by our times) by the time she married Henry simply put there must have been a romantic/sexual attraction beyond just her being fertile. She, herself, may have also had reason to feel attracted to him (despite his fatness) because he appears to have exuded the character of a Renaissance Prince which I feel she could have been drawn towards.

To be honest the ‘it’s complicated and unhealthily’ kind of speak for themselves. I feel like a part of the breakdown went beyond her not being able to hear a son because he does not seem to have properly tried like he did with Catherine of Aragon - the marriage was only three years long. I also feel like he was a bit too set in the past for her and she may have felt disillusioned with how he carried out the reformation. I also feel like Henry thought he would find a woman with Catherine’s brand of strength but with an ability to bear children, but despite both women having education in common Anne’s Protestant beliefs made her someone entirely different. Their feelings were strong but they clearly were not made for each other. With that said, theology fasincates me so to an extent I am more interested in the consequences (the reformation and how it changed the fabric of England) then even the ship itself - that is not to say the ship doesn’t interest me. And yes. I could/want to be convinced that this ship is interesting but if anyone wants me to get on board you will have to first throw off ‘seductress Anne’ or ‘poor maligned pawn Anne’. Only mercurial Henry and reformer Anne will do for me. With that said, I really wouldn’t mind the unrequited love trope thrown in there but with Anne accepting him only because Cromwell and co convince her that this is the only way England’s religion can change. I also liked the ‘Anne of One Thousand Days’ spin where it’s unrequited on her side and then turns unrequited on Henry’s side. Now that’s super tragic and would grab my attention. Overall, I like Anne Boleyn but I don’t ship them because I don’t think they were compatible, I don’t like Henry and I hate how the reformation was carried out and how the knock-on effect was the death of the Tudor figures I care the most about: Cardinal Fisher, Thomas More and Margaret Pole.

Eleanor Cobham & Humphrey of Gloucester

I love ships where both figures were described as intelligent by their contemporaries because there’s also a meeting of minds there. It also gives this partners in crime vibes which I really like. This connects to my whole ’delicious’, ‘romantic’, ‘best friends’ and ‘I’m intrigued’. A lot of fun things could be done with this ship and so I would read fic for it but I remain unpicky (except for , you know, prose as per usual). As it happens I also already read fic for this pairing and unless you are her, I would recommend @nuingiliath who writes loads for this couple and is the resident shipper - I believe this is her OTP. On Ao3 she is ‘heartofstanding’ she has plenty of stuff both on her tumblr and on that site so just follow the tags. Also all I know about these guys is from her pretty much.

The thing is, Eleanor Cobham is like Jane Shore for me, she brings out very weird feelings because I am very traditionalist and boring and hate my infidelities and tend to have an aversion towards mistresses. However, like Jane Shore, Eleanor Cobham appears to have had some virtues and was more than a pretty face (apparently Jacobia herself was quite dull and that’s one of the things that turned Humphrey off her but I’m not sure if that’s hearsay). So just like that, I don’t get an ‘ugh’ feeling like I would with people interested in the Bourbon mistresses in the 18th century or such because I much feel like it wasn’t that physical. This is where ‘softly’ comes, the age difference makes me imagine Humphrey as having that dad-aura Idk (and btw no I’m not pleading daddy issues at all - I feel like it quite undermines this couple), his incredible level of learning further feading into this wise persona but obviously his skirmishes with the administration give me an impression of this grand daring man as well. He seemed the picture of true aristocracy and in all the way he falters from those expectations (eg lack of martial talent) I also like to see. As I said, Eleanor also being described as intelligent makes me feel that she was at his level and while I am satisfied that the necromancy charges were shams it does indicate that she was considered bright enough by her contemporaries in order for such charges to be levelled in the first place. While it is true that the whole affair was targeting Humphrey, I really feel like Eleanor herself possessed (or at least was perceived by others as possessing) a certain dangerousness and this course of action was pursued by their rivals in order to kill two birds with one stone. After all, we have seen how easy treason charges can be conjured against magnates who though not technically speaking guilty have acted against the wrong faction eg Clarence’s case. With that I also put ‘best friends’ because I feel like like all those traits derived from the facts I’ve been privy to point to the fact that the two were friends as well as in love and attracted to each other. They really give me a partners-in-crime vibe and I’m always all for that. Not to mention I’m also a sucker of one part of the ship dying (preferably the woman) with the other following not late after or at least never living a fulfilled life as a widow-widower. It’s cruel but I love my doomed couples. So yeah, I ship it, I really do. I also have a great admiration for Humphrey as I have a soft-heart for scholarly people, I also admire how he was not blindly loyal and quite brazen. It’s a personality that intrigues me.

TROS - What did I even watch? Or how I lived to see the day Disney murdered a prince, left Cinderella alone in the desert, and hoped for the world to rejoice because it was “fun”?

Dear friends, I’ve been here for the spoilers and I’ve even talked with some of you. I went to watch the movie today, with 0 hope of anything except of seeing my baby Ben Solo and Adam’s fenomenal acting (and listening to some good John Williams).

I knew it would be horrible, but as @nevernerdenoughblog said seeing it makes it even more. Like @clairen45 it felt so wrong. Should I rejoice with a Reylo kiss that Rey gave but seconds later didn’t even cry over Ben’s dead body? I refuse to acknowledge this characterization of Rey. She was the only one that ever believed in Ben Solo, she shipped herself to make him know he was loved and wanted and to help him. Where was this Rey in this movie?

I am sorry guys (especially for the tagging) but I need to write this out or it will eat me and you guys are the few ones that relate to my pain. You know what really hurt me the most in all this? Toxic masculinity disguised as feminism.

1) FAREWELL HEROINE’S JOURNEY

They trashed the Heroine’s Journey. They murdered it and spit in its face. JJ Abrams simply decided that the Heroine’s Journey (done in act 1/ep. VII and act 2/ep. VIII) was not cutting anymore and decided to send Rey on a Hero’s Journey (ep. IX only, new 1st, 2nd and 3rd act altogether), where she has become this almost toxic masculine fighter under Leia’s training — Badass girl? Yes. Full of anger? Yes. Logical? Yes. Connected to anything? No, not even herself, she kept on the run, afraid. In search of the Jedi detachment? Yes. —, only to send her happilly off to a desert planet in the end of her journey and finishing with her alone talking with an old lady.

Which remind us of the start of TFA, meaning she has comeback to what? Luke didn’t even comeback to that “home” in Tatooine the end of his Hero’s Journey? So she went to a place of death to what? This is a slap on the face of the Heroine’s Journey. This is how toxic masculinity corrupts and interrupts the most uncomfortable (to psychologically unhealthy bystanders) and fundamental (to the woman herself) phase of Heroine’s Journey: You want love, family, a partnership, connection, nurturing or progeny? That is weak, it is foolish. You need to fight, to conquer, to take, take and take. Otherwise you won’t be strong or independent.

REALLY???????????

I AM CRYING! WHY? WHY? WHY? Daisy, are you really seriously satisfied with this ending? Because REY DESERVED BETTER.

BTW, BEN SOLO DESERVED BETTER! The true feminist of this story DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER! ADAM DRIVER DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER! He always respect the director’s view, does his best to accomplish it and brings his best acting to the table. The only saving grace in the whole movie to me was Ben’s arc because 1) Adam was doing it and 2) He honored his character. Man he deserved so much better!!!!!

I’m not even going to repeat what everyone already said about where is George Lucas’ Fairytale Story, because you guys said it all. But I have a beef with Disney executive decisions:

2) WALT DISNEY - HOW I WISH WALT WAS ALIVE

Walt Disney. Much have been criticized concerning his choices to make HEA in fairytales. But what now? We find balance by wanting our children to grow up to be cynic and seeing the feminine as weak? Unhelpful? Bad?

“Yo independent women! You need no prince even if you have one. He can compassionately and selfelessly die to save you because he loves you and you can go off, happily, to celebrate with your friends! You don’t mourn his body, oh no. You don’t tell him you love him. You forget him. You go be that cool lonely warrior.”

Excuse me but I can kick ass and have the romantic love life and children I want! I can have both! Because I am a human being and I deserve it. This is not a matter of being a men or women. This is a matter of balancing the feminine and masculine within.

But that is not just it. BEN SOLO DESERVED BETTER! WALT WOULD NEVER, EVER LET A CHARACTER THAT WENT THROUGH ABUSE AND SO MUCH PAIN DIE THE WAY BEN SOLO DID! Is that a Disney movie??????? I mean, what did I just watch????

Walt Disney, the man who promised P.L. Travers, upon knowing who Mr. Banks was to her (her deceased alcoholic father) and what Mary Poppins, her work, meant to her, said:

“George Banks and all he stands for will be saved. Maybe not in life, but in imagination. Because that is what we storytellers do. We restore order with imagination. We instill hope again and again and again.”

THAT IS WHAT STORYTELLERS DO! Like so many fanfic writers in this fandom @nite0wl29, @stargazer1116, @intp-slytherin97, @eleanor-writes-stuff, @postedbygaslight, @raven-maiden, and so many others!! Btw, thank you all!! My vacation starts tomorrow and I’m going to read again all your amazing fics to regain exactly that: HOPE!

What was TROS? Leia and Luke believing in the good in Rey? The whole Jedi Order believing in her? I have nothing against that but why didn’t they believe or help Ben too? Ben didn’t receive any of that love, WHY? What was wrong with him? What did he do?! He was the most selfless of souls, just like his Father and Grandmother. Is this vicntim blaming??? WHY DISNEY, LUCAS FILM and JJ ABRAMS, WHY?!

I used to think people were wrong when they said Disney was only doing SW for money. Because Walt Disney also said and lived by this rule:

“The important thing is the family. If you can keep the family together — and that’s the backbone of our whole business, catering to families — that is what we hope to do.”

SW is about family and I refuse to accept ep. IX as SW. It has all the make up of SW, but it lacks the heart and very essence of it.

As dear @eleanor-writes-stuff said, so much for criticizing Rian Johnson, only to consagrate his work. That man honored the storytelling art and I’ll be forever grateful to him for his touch in SW and for how his writing touched and changed my life. And I know Waltz would have approved too because he also said:

“I prefer to entertain people in the hope that they learn, rather than teach people in the hope they are entertained.”

3) PLOT? WHAT PLOT?

Leia’s feelings for Ben have remained ambiguous, you can both read her as someone who wants her baby boy dead (because her death allows Rey to stab Ben to death if she wants to, when Ben was never going to harm Rey) or not. Actions speak louder than words, and this was the movie when Leia would have the chance to assume the responsability for her mistakes and take action, instead of only claiming she believed her son was alive.

If she clearly wanted to reach Ben, was Maz’s words needed? No, they weren’t. It was exactly because Maz needed to voice it that proved Leia’s actions could be read as ambiguous. Again, actions speak louder than words. Her body only disappeared after Ben’s did too because what? She was expecting him to die so she could collect his soul?

I dearly love Leia’s character but LEIA DESERVED BETTER! CARRIE DESERVED BETTER! In the end I’m not sure what to make of the ST Leia. She could have helped Ben but clearly sent him away to Luke because? What?

Ben Solo get his redemption from his own 2 hands + his father’s memory (not force ghost) + Rey’s confession. In the end he becomes the bride of the monster, only to die right after, in a what? Plot twist?

Finn, who? That was so messed up! Rose? Poor Rose!!! Hux? Oh Hux deserved better too. I was glad to see that Poe matured though and grew in his arc.

I’m also mad and confused about other plot points:

Ben throws his bleeded kyber krystal away because of his father. Okay. Why did no one help him when he cried on the Force to crack his kyber and soul, but Luke Force Ghost appears to catch Rey throwing a lightsaber in an on fire tie fighter?

Rey would turn to the Dark side if she killed Palpatine, right? 5 minutes later she won’t turn to the Dark Side anymore even if she still kills him in anger? Just because the self righteous jedi chose to let Ben get thrown down the abysm by himself but Rey was the Chosen One?

Still on this topic, so she choses to give up her soul so Palpatine uses her body as the vessel of his soul and the legion of siths, in order to save her friends, but she won’t take Ben Solo’s hand, even if she claims she wants to + retaining her body, to do the same?

I think force bonds don’t make much of a difference anymore when one of the parts dies. Ben can die and Rey seems pretty okay?

INTERESTING FACT: Beside me there was a father with his 6 or 7 year old son. The child kept asking what was going on everytime the movie introduced any plot twists or too much information too quickly. When the Reylo kiss came on screen, you know what the kid said? “I told ya!” I wanted to cry when seconds later the boy was claiming now was Rey’s turn to bring Ben back. Children understand the Heroine’s Journey and it doesn’t scare them. It is beautiful like that. The father then had to try and explain to the boy that other things were going on and that no, “that guy was gone”. What have you done people?

4) EPISODE X

I must have a clown face. They lied to us about this movie being “The Rise of Skywalker”. Maybe they lied to us about this being the end of the saga? Considering JJ claims this is fun, happy and hopeful, yeah, I doubt they are making an episode X or ressurecting Ben Solo after throwing in the garbage the Heroine’s Journey. I vaguely remember Adam also said he wasn’t going to appear in another SW.

IF they do announce an ep. X, I’m not watching it unless Ryan or someone like him directs the movie.

I loved to see Han Solo’s memory helping his son. That man trully loved him and it is tragic that he screwed up as a father only because he thought he wasn’t enough to be a good one and that Leia and Luke would know better.

I also loved to see Ben Solo as his father son and grandchild to his grandmother and great grandmother. He was beautiful and I love him and he’ll be forever with me.

I liked the Reylo kiss... but Rey’s actions in this movie have affected me so that it doesn’t feel like they scrapped the surface of making justice to this that could have been the happiest and most balanced of all SW couples.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN EPIC. IT COULD HAVE BEEN GRAND. But it wasn’t.

I’ll forget TROS. YBTOTT is now canon to me, because it is a perfect 3rd act in this trilogy, and @postedbygaslight honors the Heroine’s Journey like few writers have the gut and courage to do. Thank you so much Wayne!

And if anyone had the patience to read this to the end, thank you. I feel it too guys, this was awful and horrible.

The most popular Naruto ships on FF.Net

Now, that’s a deceptively easy question… It’s very difficult to find the answer.

FF.Net doesn’t have a built-in ranking system (in contrast to AO3). The only way to search the popularity is to scroll through the Filter Menu. One would need to chose Character A, click the Pairing Option On, and then scroll through all the possible Character Bs, checking the number of fics as it appears in the lower part of Filter Menu.

The point is that there are 324 characters listed in Naruto Filter (if I counted correctly). If one would want to search all the combinations, one would need to check (324x324)/2 i.e. 52488 combinations of characters. Well, there are better ways to spend time.

The approach I took was the following:

1. I identified Top Ten most popular Characters through scrolling through all the characters (Pairing Option was Off at this stage) and taking note of their fic numbers. There are 49 characters that have more than 1000 fics to their name, and those characters will be considered further. Top Ten were (in order of popularity): Sasuke, Naruto, Sakura, Hinata, Itachi, Kakashi, Gaara, Neji, Ino, Shikamaru

2. For each of the Top Ten characters I switched the Pairing Option On and scrolled through all the listed Character Bs, taking note of the ships with more than 100 fics. This way, I systematically checked all possible ships where at least one partner belonged to Top Ten.

At that point it should become apparent for everyone that here lies the greatest limitation of this method. Namely, there can be a ship, consisting of both partners outside the Top Ten that nevertheless is popular enough to rank high.

Therefore:

Since I wasn’t ready to search systematically through further characters, I concentrated on ships featuring characters ranking 11-49 that struck me as possibly popular (canon pairs, Akatsuki teams, fandoms favs known to me) and checked manually the fic numbers for those fics. This check was by all means not exhaustive and was obviously biased.

Limitations of the method

The biggest limitation of this method is described in point 2., and the partial solution provided in point 3.

Additionally, this method is based exclusively on Pairing Option. Pairing Option was introduced in October 2013 and fics tagged with it tend to be new. The parallel ship tagging system (so called Ship Names, i.e. SasuSaku, NaruHina, etc.) was in place for the majority of the Naruto fandom history on FF.Net and is still widely in use. For more details see here. This analysis doesn’t include in any way the fics tagged with Ship Names (and the differences in rankings between the systems can be large; for example featuring Sakura’s ships see here).

Results

The Table below summarizes 42 ships that I identified applying approach described in point 2 and supplementing it with approach from point 3. This list is not exhaustive and I am pretty sure there are couple of ships towards the bottom of the ranking that slipped through my fingers.

Ships identified via point 3. are marked red. Those ships are: MinaKushi, SasoDei, BoruSara and MadaTobi. It is worth mentioning that MinaKushi is ranked 10th, and it had I not used the manual check, it’s place would have been taken by ShikaIno, which proves that also relatively high-ranking ships may escape the procedure from point 2.

Since FF.Net lists “Naruko” as separate character, ship Sasuke x Naruko appeared as a separate entity in my method. It has 178 fics and is ranked 28. If one adds those 178 fics to the classical SasuNaru ship, it introduces profound changes in the top of the ranking. Namely, SasuNaru with 4105 fics takes the 2nd place from NaruHina (with 3930 fic), as those two ships have practically identical fic number. Btw, I checked Hinata x Naruko, just to be fair, and since it has 29 fics, it wouldn’t make NaruHina win its 2nd place.

Discussion

The ranking is dominated by ships consisting of four players: Sasuke, Naruto, Sakura and Hinata. Almost all combinations of ships featuring those 4 characters (except of SakuHina) rank at the top of the list. The ships featuring those 4 characters are also the only ones that cross the boundary of 1000 fics per ship.

SasuSaku dominates the ranking with 5826 fics, followed by an almost-tie between NaruHina and SasuNaru with 3930 and 3927 fics, respectively (or the 2nd and 3rd ranks are reversed, see above).

Interestingly, there is a second almost-tie on the 4th and 5th place with NaruSaku (1733 fics) and SasuHina (1728 fics).

There are 23 F/M ships in the ranking, 10 M/M and 1 F/F. 8 ships (with OCs, Kurama and Naruko) are hard to categorize.

In Top Ten there are 4 canonical ships, while the fifth prominent one (InoSai) ranks 13. However, for every canonical ship, the uncanonical ‘options’ for either, or both partners, feature equally prominently and usually on similar place in the ranking (the ‘Top 4 Characters’ situation described above; ShikaTema (7th) vs ShikaIno (11th), InoSai (13th) vs ShikaIno (11th), and SasuIno (12th))

Several ships ranking very highly in AO3 rank low on FF.Net. KakaIru, which is the 2nd most popular ship on AO3 ranks 15 on FF.Net (though it can be an artifact of using exclusively the Pairing Option, I have an impression that this ship used to be far more popular in the past). KakaObi (5th on AO3) is ranked 33. MadaTobi which is ranked 7th on AO3 barely makes the cut.

MadaSaku is 36th, but since it’s towards the end of the ranking, I would treat it more as an orientation than as a set-in-stone number, as there might be a fic or two that I missed that would rank higher.

It is interesting to note that 5 high ranking ships are the ships with OC. The canonical ship-partners in these pairings are: Kakashi, Itachi, Gaara, Sasuke and Naruto.

And finally, the curiosities: there are two ships of Kurama that made it in: with Naruto (ok, I can understand that) and with Itachi (WTF? If anyone read Kurama x Itachi fic, please, let me know what it was about!)

So I’ve gone through the new opening a few times now and I’m ready to dissect it. Hopefully they will continue to update this one, unlike the last one, because it looks like some of this stuff might be happening in a few episodes based on what we know from the summaries while other bits look like they can be continuous elements/themes throughout this season.

Also just a quick note. I’m not going in complete order of what was shown since some shots later down the line overlap with previous ones that look like they could be happening in the same scene.

So two of the beginning and ending shots are of Yusaku’s empty duel disk. Since it looks like Ai (who isn’t even shown in his Ignis form at all in this opening) is going to be the main villain of the season, it really does bring home the point that Yusaku really is finally alone during this season. Because lets be real here, once we get to the season 3 finale, everyone is going to get killed off again while Playmaker is going to be the last one standing to beat the bad guy. Only difference this time around is that the big bad is Ai, Playmaker’s partner, meaning that Playmaker isn’t going to have anyone to stand next to him and to help him beat his old partner.

We have these two shots of our main cast of characters in the real world and in Link Vrains. The thing I like to note is that when we get the transition Spectre, Emma, Akira, Go, and Kengo disappear, leaving just Playmaker, Blue Maiden, Soulburner, Revolver, and Kusanagi. Our main fighters from last season aren’t much of a surprise since I figured they would continue to be the main focus but this makes me wonder now if Kusanagi will start to go into Link Vrains more if they included him in the shot of the Link Vrains characters and will start playing more of a role there instead of the real world side of things.

On a unrelated note, I love Takeru’s pose in the real life shot XD

Yusaku and Ai (I’m just going to continue to call this guy Ai until they show tells me it isn’t him) standing in the rain, both of them looking miserable. Yusaku missing his partner probably while Ai is probably missing his kin and probably Yusaku as well for having to leave him when he did.

However you can tell there’s a difference in their tone once they shift. Once Yusaku looks up, he still looks sad but when Ai turns and is now facing forward, he now looks determined, like he’s putting his doubts, his human friendships to the side in order to complete his goal of getting the other Ignis back. The moment he has his resolve to do whatever he has to to bring them back even if it means he has to go against Yusaku.

These two shots look to be taking place in the same area so I’m grouping them together. It looks like Blue Maiden is trying to talk someone out of something (maybe her brother or another character that’s not in the shot) which looks like it is going to lead into a Akira and Blue Maiden tag duel. First off FINALLY we get a tag duel in Vrains and FINALLY we get to see Akira duel again since freaking the beginning of season 1. I’m interested to see how this is going to play out and I’m curious to see if Aoi is still going to be playing Marincess or will she go back to using Trickstars now that Aqua is gone?

We see that Go has gone back to playing Goukis so Aoi could go back to her original archetype as well. Speaking of Go, I’m curious to know what kind of role he’s going to be playing this season if he’s important enough to be in the opening with the other characters. Hopefully he’s in better health this time around and will finally just get over himself.

More proof this new guy is Ai? Evil Decode Talker (btw his monsters look awesome). And apparently these two are going to be dueling in freaking space. I’m so looking forward to this duel because one Ai looks like he’s going to go crazy in it and two I very much want to know if Yusaku will know this is Ai when this duel happens. It is hard to tell with Playmaker if he recognizes this as Ai in the preview. If he does find out, then this is going to hit hard for him and if he doesn’t know this is Ai at this point, he’s might just fight this like any other fight. I’m also curious to know how he’s going to find out if this is Ai. If Yusaku will put the pieces together himself or if Ai will just tell him that this is him.

I’m very much hoping this means we are finally going to be getting more real life scenes and not just the writers trying to throw in Angelmakershipping out of nowhere. Seriously don’t do this to Aoi’s character. She does NOT need to fall for him. This is what ALWAYS leads to the females going to sh*t. I mean I have my own personal problems with Aoi’s writing but don’t make it worse.

I’m very curious to know what Roboppy’s role in all of this is going to be. Ai is probably going to be trying to get the other Ignises back but why is Roboppy along for the ride? Honestly it is probably just to be with her “big brother” which is honestly just adorable in its own right. It looks like she’s going to be dueling as well which judging by her monsters looks like her duels are just going to be fun in a Yuya sense. I wouldn’t say an entertainment style of dueling but something like that is how I see her duels playing out.

It looks like we are getting all of the brother sister team ups this season because it looks like Blood Shepherd and Ghost Girl are also getting a tag duel together. Judging by the fact they we see Roboppy in a Speed Duel and these two are also in a Speed Duel, maybe we might get a Speed Tag Duel between Ai and Roboppy against Blood Shepherd and Ghost Girl. And if that’s the case, well these two are dead. Also Blood Shepherd can also say “I told you so!” to everyone along with Revolver.

Speaking of Revolver, it looks like him and Soulburner are actually getting a rematch! HELL YES! Finally have these two flat out murder each other!

No seriously, after this death glare Takeru gave Ryoken in today’s episode, I want Takeru to punch Ryoken so badly. I will be so disappointed if we go this whole show without Takeru punching Ryoken in the face. Takeru lost his impulse control in Flame, he might actually punch him and honestly I’m expecting Takeru to get into so much crap now because of the fact that Flame is gone to keep his temper in check. Yusaku, you might want to keep Takeru under constant supervision, especially considering Ai might actually go after him in order to bring back Flame. Takeru really is not in a good position right now, is he?

But back to the Revolver vs Soulburner rematch, I’m still willing to bet that Revolver is going to win this only because of three reasons (damn you Yusaku)

Revolver wasn’t even trying the first time around and with the opening hand he drew, he could have easily destroyed Soulburner on his first turn. If the writers go the route with how everything at the beginning of the duel will be the exactly same as their last one, Revolver is easily going to be able to overpower him in seconds.

I’m pretty sure this duel will air around the time the Revolver Structure Deck will be out and you all know how it works when it comes to new products. The anime has to advertise the hell out of them to get them to sell. And considering the fact that Salamangreats are meta and the OCG is probably sick of them by now, they are going to make this duel seem like “hey Salamangreats are so last format! Here try Rokkets!”

Takeru no longer has Flame who again was 100% his impulse control but was also a big reason why Soulburner won 99% of his duels. Flame gave him advice and the encourage for Soulburner to keep on fighting to win. Without Flame, I’m 100% sure Soulburner’s dueling is going to take a big hit from it. If Soulburner does lose this duel from this reason alone, I think it will be a good driving force for him to legitimately try and get his partner back.

And speaking of Flame and the other Ignis, the opening and today’s episode really was hitting it home that the rest of the Ignis are gone. Now I don’t think Flame, Aqua, Windy, Earth, and Lightning are going to stay permanently dead. That just doesn’t seem like something a Yu-Gi-Oh series will do (since it is extremely rare for anyone to stay permanently dead in this franchise) but I do think these five are going to be staying dead for quite a while from the looks of things and won’t actually return until the middle, middle end, or the end of the season/show if season 3 is the final season of Vrains.

We get this quick screenshot of what looks to be a new female-like android character and it appears to me that she is in the Knights of Hanoi’s base. Since we know that SOL created these androids, is this the spy Ryoken has been hinting at from within? On one hand, that’s pretty freaking smart but on the other, Ryoken, if this is your spy, you are a giant freaking hypocrite. You don’t trust Ai (which I mean at this point might be justified) but you have a freaking android working for you as a spy in SOL? I seriously can’t even with this boy.

It looks like these androids might be playing a significant role this season if they are showing them in the opening. Since I think some of these shots might be actual future shots, this could be the moment before Ai and Roboppy appear and upload their data into two of these androids and that’s how they both have human forms.

And one final thing I like to note is...when the summaries talked about SOL having a ship, I was thinking along the lines of a pirate ship, not a freaking space ship! Are you kidding me right now?! Playmaker and Ai might actually be dueling in space, like actual space. We are going full on Zexal now. Season 3 isn’t messing around apparently.

There were a few other shots but these were the ones that interested me the most. Over all, I’m very much looking forward to season 3 and I just hope it doesn’t play out like season 2 in certain scenarios and seriously hoping it doesn’t end like a certain series if this is the final season.

My Star Wars Discourse

It’s been a week since I’ve seen TRoS and the majority of the people have seen it, I’ve read theory upon theory and criticism, upon criticism from both sides of the aisle, ironically all of them are pretty much saying the same thing, just using different words.

Now, I have words. I’m one of those “rarities” on Tumblr. I was a young child when A New Hope came out in theaters. I read TESB before I saw it and it was a huge deal when my father took me to see RoTJ. I am still under the stubborn belief that the EU is still canon, no matter what anyone says. (Mara Jade is canon, dammit!) I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since the age of 10 and my fangirl squealing is usually kept between my siblings and my IRL friends.

But, because I know some people have not seen it yet, I will not only be tagging this so those blacklisting it won’t see it on their dash, I’ll also put it behind a cut. Because it might be long, and slightly ranty and nobody wants to scroll past that.

Abandon hope, ye who enter here.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve harbored a dislike of JJ Abrams since 2009 when he pulled his BS with the Star Trek franchise. In fact, the only reason I liked Into Darkness was because Benedict Cumberbatch was in it and even then, I was not happy with him being cast as Khan. He was a wonderful bad guy and there was a multitude of evil villains he could have brilliantly played. My favorite movie was.Beyond because Justin Lin directed it and, in my mind, that was the most “Star Trek” Star Trek movie done this century.

On to Star Wars. After my anger with the first franchise, the first thing I said when I heard Abrams was doing Star Wars was “if he fucks this up, I will appear at his house with a pitchfork”

First, I liked Episode 7,8 and 9. Truly, I did. There were things I didn’t like about then, but all in all, I did like the overarching theme of family and making your own that was tied in with the usual Good vs. Evil that is Star Wars. I loved the First Order and it’s resemblance to what the Empire used to be. Someone wrote that in the Star Ward universe, the Empire represented Nazism and the First Order represented the Alt-Right. I think that is a perfect example and one that gives us hope. If rebels can defeat a powerful institution like the Empire/First Order, then it gives us hope. Which is what Star Wars was supposed to do; give us hope.

I thought Kylo Ren was the perfect foil to Darth Vader; wanting to be like the largest representation of evil in the galaxy but never quite getting the same amount of respect. The tantrums in The Force Awakens were priceless of a spoiled man child who can’t quite fit into grandpa’s black boots.

The hate/hate relationship between Kylo and Hux was both creepy and laughable and I found myself truly upset when he was killed with so little afterthought.

The theme of good vs evil and the lure of the dark side that happened between Kylo and Rey throughout the last three movies was well done. Well done in the theme of the seductive tricks evil uses to make a person turn.

Now the things I had issues with:

I am not a Reylo shipper. But I know people I am friends with are and the entire YSINMSATOK rule is still in effect. I thought the thing between Kylo and Rey was abusive and manipulative and it reeked of evil seducing good in order to corrupt. That said, I did like the thing between Ben and Rey. And I have to admit, whatever my thoughts on Adam Driver, the man is a phenomenal actor. by just facial expressions you could see the transformation from Kylo Ren to Ben Solo and it was powerful.

I understood that for someone to come back from years in the Dark Side, a sacrifice must be made. Anakin did it and so did Ben. It was true to the story and there was no other way.

I also want to say that Stormpilot should have absolutely been a thing. An actual canon thing. I’ll even venture so far as to say that not only should Stormpilot have been a thing but so should FinnPoeRey. (I’m not sure what that ship name is, forgive me). As much as I adore Vinette Robinson and smiled when I saw that “the gay kiss” was two women, they absolutely could have and should have made that reunion scene more between Poe and Finn.

I liked Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi and I am annoyed at Abrams’ “retconning” as much as he could. If he had a vision, he should’ve stayed with all three. Johnson’s TLJ felt like Star Wars and the scene where Kylo turned his back on Rey was powerful as hell. He had a choice and he made the wrong one, which made his redemption/sacrifice in TRoS even more important.

I absolutely hate this phrase but Rose Tico absolutely deserved better. She deserved more than to be an unwitting romantic foil for Finn in TLJ and because of that, she was sorely unused in TRoS. Her character was so much more in TRoS and yet she was hardly in it.

I’ve seen people tell me that they didn’t like her character because she wasn’t really much in TLJ and therefore they couldn’t see where she could even be placed in TRoS. To those people, I offer this: Dominic Monaghan. This person, who’d never even been in a Star Wars movie until this one was given the role that Kelly Marie Tran should’ve had, Instead of being regulated to one-liners and afterthoughts, she could’ve absolutely been placed in the staring role as arguing against Finn and Poe instead of Kin. No offense to Monaghan, who had the honor of playing in a Star Wars movie, but there was literally no reason for Kin to be in this movie other than Abrams needed another white male to shine out and, I’ll say it, racism and misogyny. Rose “got in the way” of Stormpilot (which, BTW, I have not heard any backlash against Keri Russell’s Zorii Bliss) and therefore she became a casualty of fandom and a director who pulled the equivalent of Lucas insisting “Greedo shot first” with his retconning.

Do not take this to mean that I ship it. Rose Tico was supposed to be “us”. She was used incorrectly and FinnRose would’ve been horrible. The ship was forced and therefore it didn’t work...at all. Rose was so much better as one of General Organa’s army and she should have been used as such in TRoS. In her meager parts, Rose shows knowledge and an eagerness to the Resistance that far surpasses anyone other than the main three.

If there is a disagreement, take a good hard look at your argument.

There’s probably more I can touch on but this is already much too long. Usually, I don’t discuss my Star Wars love in so much depth but as this is an end of an era, I could no longer sit idly by without finally putting my 0.02 in. I know there will be people who hate me for this and to them, I saw...*shrug*

I can't possibly pull receipts right now - I wouldn't even know where to look. Some of have been for my writing in general, some have been for specific stories, some have been in comments, others reblogs, or even PMS

but I've had other writers tell me how well my dialogue flows, others tell me how strong a certain character voice is, and those are definitely heartening to hear.

I've had a few readers say something along the lines of "This was great! I just finished and I'm about to re-read it" which is mindboggling.

any time i see my fic rec'd i'm absolutely tickled pink.

i love the short and sweet comments, the in depth comments. the comments on a long fic that only come at the end because they were so engrossed they couldn't put it down, or the commenters who manage to somehow comment on every chapter - I find all those things so awesome.

Dear Diary,

That’s how you start this, isn’t it? I don’t know, I have never done this before.

So why start now, you ask?

The answer is simple : Aliens.

A couple days ago—or a week for all I know, a little girl no older than 16 knocked on my door and fell limp into my arms.

To my horror, the normal human skin she first had, faded away into a weird shade of grey with markings that swirled around her exposed arms and face.

I managed to carry her into the lab and lay her down on the couch before I had my toppling panic attack. I have been having them a lot these days, and the main reason is somewhere in my house at the moment I’m writing this. I don’t even know where, I just try to avoid her as much as possible.

After I regained my breath and put my thoughts in order, I had JARVIS scan her for vitals. As if it all wasn’t bad enough already, he told me there was no pulse and she wasn’t breathing.

I managed to hold back another panic attack by reassuring myself that alien biology didn’t have to be equal to human biology, but that also meant all doctors were completely useless.

For hours JARVIS and I tried to examine her condition to find what was wrong, and we actually did uncover something while she was unconscious from what I now know to be exhaustion and change of atmosphere.

Her skin is incredibly thick, yet permeable, making it easier to stick needles through but hard to actually make a deep cut. ( don’t worry I didn’t cut her)

She ( I keep saying she but I don’t know if gender and sex work the same here as where she came from. Because she showed up as a girl, I will continue to refer as ‘her’ if otherwise corrected) doesn’t have lungs or any other breathing related organs, no chest movements at all.

After hours of waiting and contemplating what to do, her eyelids opened. ( they were almost sewn shut btw. Impossible to open)

There were no whites. Only dark blue covering every inch of her eyeballs. It was the blue that rivaled the galaxy I flew myself through, the sky that haunted me at night when I tried to sleep.

It seemed like I had swallowed my tongue, because when she finally spoke ( In perfect but simple english) I thought I’d faint on the spot.

“I finally found you,” she had whispered with a slight smile.

What the fuck does that mean? God, now there are aliens looking for me.

“My name is Ruva. I need your help, hero.”

I tried to hold my attention on what she spoke instead of her appearance as she told me what had happened to her. She told me she and her mother had crashed on earth with a space ship, and she could barely escape as humans came to investigate.

“I could not find my mother and the humans took our ship. I am scared they will find her before I can.”

Great, she wants me to break out her mother from wherever they take aliens, as if the government doesn’t hate me already.

“You, Tony Stark, are the only one that can help me.”

It’s been days since that, and I still haven’t said I would or wouldn’t help. I guess it’s kinda been decided already, since I haven’t called the police to take her away, either.

I don’t know why I don’t. Maybe it’s because I know humans and I know what they’ll do to her. Maybe it’s because she’s a kid (or looks like one) or because I want to know more about aliens myself.

While I’m still scared to close my eyes, to see the Chitauri ship floating through the unending galaxy, I’m fascinated by the universe, endless planets and life evolving into something better. For decades, humans explored space for a sign of life, and for decades we have come up with nothing.

Ever since New York, everyone finally got the answer. Some were delighted and excited, while some feared what was out there. I’m both these people, because I have lived through it and survived.

I saw how evil they can be, but there are also good aliens like Thor, a good hearted god (who I question the morality). I asked him if I could do some scans but he just looked at me in disgust and flew away.

So, as Ruva is scribbling in her own notebook with symbols I can’t understand, I am sitting at my desk writing my own shit. This could be a breakthrough for humankind, but also help me keep the world safe from more people like Loki.

Maybe she knows about the threats lingering in the universe and their vulnerabilities, a way to keep the world safe.

For now, I can’t let anyone know about her. Not Pepper and not Rhodey, and especially not Fury or SHIELD. Maybe I can protect the world AND save her mother.

As long as she isn’t a threat and her planet doesn’t come looking for her, destroying earth in the process, everything is fine.

Maybe it’ll even help with my attacks. You have to face your fears to get over them, right?

Rockman.EXE Episode 42 Review.

I spy Navis from the N-1 such as Blues, Elecman, Bombman, Whaleman and Shiningman. I also see some viruses, one of the robot operators that nearly killed Netto and Commander Beef, and Shadowman and Cutman? How do these people know about them?!

And that’s the Gospel truth...

We open the episode at some noodle shop where Madoi talks about how she is bored with her life, and Coloredman tells her how she used to shine back when the WWW was still active. Madoi then gets a bowl of noodles that she didn’t order.

I wonder who that could be?

Madoi’s mystery order comes with a little note with the seal of Gospel asking her to join them. The mysterious customer then reveals himself to her.

I think Madoi just slapped him after he said that. Can’t have a Madoi episode without someone making fun of her makeup.

After the title card, we see Madoi in her new secretary outfit at Maha ichiban where she breaks the news to the other Ex-WWW members that she is gonna quit to go work for Gospel.

Count Elec and Hinouken don’t like this and yell at Madoi calling her a traitor and such. Mahajarama on the other hand, is cool with Madoi leaving and gives her farewell gift.

Friendship? What would bad guys know about friendship? We know they all stick around together because they have nothing better to do.

Madoi takes the gift and runs out of the shop causing a car crash into it and destroying Mahajarama’s life size statue.

AHHHHH! Mahajarama has eyes!

We then cut to a family retaurant where Netto is in a “secret” meeting with the Net Agents, where he makes a scene after the news they tell him about Gospel.

“Hello, police? There are three terrible cosplayers and a kid talking about the Net mafia out loud at a family restaurant”

They are telling him about a Gospel leader hosting a secret meeting in Japan. Since the cover up for the meeting is a costume party for rich people, the Commader wants Netto to ask Yaito to help them get in, right before this second waitress complements his costume.

This girl has obviously never seen the N-1 Grand Prix.

Anyway, the Commander insists in having Netto talk to Yaito about the party, but that is no longer necessary since Yaito, along with Dekao and Meiru, overheard their conversation.

After this we cut to Madoi enjoying her new job at Gospel resting by the pool, when Gauss appears and asks her to follow him into a skipped scene from the dub. Brace yourself.

The correct question here is, who would buy a toilet with Wily’s face on it?!

Yes, Gauss reveals that he is a super Wily otaku or fan girl, whatever you want to call him. He even shows her a talking life size statue of Wily in a little scene that was kept in the dub.

I would be more impress if you had him saying: “The fact that you keep losing to Rockman is exactly why I’m mad!” (Actual quote from episode 9)

One of the reasons Gauss decided to hire Madoi is that she could share with him her memories of Dr. Wily, reminding us that either Wily is dead or just M.I.A.

Back at the Curry shop, Hinouken and Count Elec are still mad/sad about Madoi leaving them.

Is this an opening for a Count Elec and Madoi shipping? I guess nearly falling to your deaths together in a cold mountain range while hand gliding makes you developt feelings.

That night, we see the cover up party at a mansion by the sea, with Gauss as the host. We see people dressed up as Navis and viruses among other things, but the best costumes are the ones Netto and his friends are wearing.

*Okay, if you’re confused about Netto’s name, scroll down to the end of this review to see the full story behind their group costume. BTW, Miyuki and Saloma are the horse.

Netto and Dekao inmediately start embarrasing Meiru by eating like the animals they are.

Yaito doesn’t help either because she starts blinding people with her forehead for some reason.

Yes, in fact, this scene was so pointless that it was skipped in the dub.

It is now time for the Net Agents to start their investigation, with style.

If I know my costumes, that must’ve hurt Saloma a lot.

The Net Agents sneak around Gauss’s mansion and come across a hallway with a laser security system, they need to disable the lasers from the cyberworld, and Netto, who suddenly appears next to them, volunteers.

We get a different design for the plug-in animation as Netto sends Rockman into the security system. The Guard Navis attack, but Rockman is so bad ass that he doesn’t need any chips to knock them all out.

Either that or they’re just really weak.

Netto complaines to them about being left behind, and since Commander Beef knows well that he won’t get rid of Netto that easily, he allows him to tag along.

Son Netto, master in the art of convincing!

We then cut to Madoi reminding Gauss about the secret meeting and they both leave the party. During their walk, Gauss tells Madoi that Gospel is nothing like the World Three, hinting that something really bad is about to happend.

Let me get this straight. You’re a fan of wily, but you’re not a fan of the World Three, the organization he created in order to terrorized people, the thing that made everyone realized that he is evil, THE VERY THING THAT MADE HIM FAMOUS IN THE FIRST PLACE!

The Net Agents along with their Navis disable every security system they find as they move on. Before commercials though, Gauss reveals that the Net Agents are heading for a trap. So much for the surprise.

They finally arrive at the meeting room filled with a bunch of covered up guys who look a lot like the disguises used by Bombman and Stoneman’s fake operators from the N-1.

What kind of guns are those? Laser guns? I’m getting ahead of myself, but in Axess we see characters using real guns, so this now seems kinda childish.

Gauss appears before them with madoi wearing masks, because apparently Higure never told Netto that his investor from episode 34 was Gauss Magnets. XP

Gauss reveals to them that the meeting was a trap for the Net Agents and the members take off their disguises, turns out they were all robots, and I am not surprised.

They ARE laser guns! If they were human, then what were they planning to do?Taze them or threaten to cook them alive?

Saloma and Miyuki shoot at the robots with their space era guns, and even Netto tries join in the action by attacking some of the robots.

You are not the monkey king and you are not Rockman either! That would be until Axess. X(

The Commander saves him and Netto then challenges Gauss to a Net Battle because that’s how you defeat the villains in the Battle Network universe.

That... That didn’t work? Am I finally watching a competent shonen anime? O-O

Gauss tells them that his plan was to kill the Net Agents, and luckily for him, they brought Netto so he can kill him too. The room begins to flood, and Madoi apparently has standards because hearing Gauss wanting to kill Netto makes her uncomfortable and talks to him about it after they exit the room.

“Directly” is the key word here. World Three were actually cowards who liked to injured people indirectly by making their Navis set homes on fire, try to crash a train full of people and nearly polluting the water of an entire city. What are you trying to say here, Madoi?

As the room keeps filling up with water, the commander gets a cramp and Rockman tells Netto that there must be a computer from where he can stop the water, and Netto remembers that he saw a jack-in port like two minutes ago with a flashback.

In cased you missed that the first time.

Netto dives and plugs in Rockman underwater because everything is water proof in this world. Gauss discovers this and decides to change his waredrobe to fight Rockman.

I’m starting to think Wily fan girl is the best description for him right now.

Rockman is attacked by Magnetman, Netto tries to send him battle chips to fight, but he is having trouble holding his breath under water.

Magnetman keeps attacking Rockman as Netto swims back to the surface where Commander Beef still has a cramp for another breath of air, but its so deep that he can’t hold his breath long enough to focus on the battle.

We then see Madoi talking to the life size statue of Wily about how it feels wrong to be working for Gospel, but then she remembers the gift Mahajarama gave her.

Magnetman summons his twin and gets ready for the N-S tackle to finish off Rockman. The two spheres head towards Rockman until they are intercepted by Coloredman’s ball that also breaks a giant faucet that apparently was the program flooding the room and the dreinage system is activated somehow.

Madoi tells Gauss that she is gonna quit Gospel because it is trash compared to the World Three, why? Because, according to her, the World Three... had... Love?.

See? Even Coloredman doesn’t understand her nonsense!

The Magnetmen attack Coloredman again and Rockman protects him with a barrier. Right after that, the Net agents and Netto suddenly appear in the organ room where Gauss and Madoi are, and I like how Netto called Gauss cross dresser. XD

Netto tells Gauss it’s payback time and activates the Elec Brother Style. Unsurprisingly by now, Madoi knows about the Elec Brother’s ability and passes an extension chip to Netto so he can download Coloredman’s data into Rockman. And if you’re a football/soccer fan you’ll like this little scene.

GOOOOOOOOL!!!!

Rockman finishes Magnetman with his Terra Volt and Gauss whines about it like a girl before escaping on his weird flying machine he activates in front of everyone.

At least this time we don’t get to see the whole room remodeling and airship building scene.

Netto thanks Madoi for helping them, Madoi says she only did it for herself and then gives Netto the curry coupon before leaving.

And we end the episode with the Ex-WWW discovering a life size Wily statue in front of their restaurant with Madoi eating curry inside, just happy with being where she is.

My thoughts?

This was a Madoi episode so we get to learn more about her character. I don’t blame Madoi for wanting to do something better with her life, she knows that she has no future working at a curry restaurant in a sad attemp of reviving World Three. You already know that I am not a fan of these guys, but I was actually happy for her since she showed some real character development.

Another thing that I like about Madoi in this episode is that she is not really a bad person, she doesn’t like to be directly involve with hurting people and she saw the World Three as her family. Maybe she came from a broken home, maybe her real family sucks and she found comfort in joining the WWW. Sure, they did bad things, but Madoi never did what she did with evil intentions, she did it so Wily would praise her for her efforts and get a laugh out of the misfortune of others, could it be a daddy issue or something?

The animation was okay, the story too, and I’m glad they cut that scene with Gauss’s Wily collection because it was just too weird and it compleately makes Dr. Wily, the main villain of the classic Megaman/Rockman series, look like a joke.

*Now, let me explain about Netto’s group costume in case you didn’t get it, this will be long.

First, It may be confusing to hear the name Son Goku because the first thing that comes to mind is the Dragon Ball series. Well, let me tell you that Dragon Ball was loosely based on the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West” with the famous Monkey king as one of the main characters. Goku was actually based on the monkey king, hence the monkey tail he had, his growing staff, the flying cloud, and because of his name. In China, the Monkey king’s name was Sun Wo Kung, but in Japan he is knowen as Son Goku, I dont know if this is a different name or it’s just how they pronounce it Japan.

Second, if you are familiar with the original story of Journey to the west, you’ll notice that Yaito and Meiru’s costumes are out of place. Since they called themselves the “Saiyuki” group I imagine that it had to do do with cultural differences since Saiyuki is how Journey to the west is knowen in Japan.

After doing some research I came to the conclution that perhaps this is a reference to a video game that came out in 2001 named “Saiyuki: Journey west”, since it features a female version of Sanzo, the monk and main character of the story.

I believe that was Meiru’s character, and Yaito was crossplaying as Sha wujing because it was suppoused to be a bald demon.

Netto, Dekao and Yaito were the three demon disciples of Meiru’s character, Saloma and Miyuki were the dragon that shapeshifts into a horse(long story), and the Commander was one of the many enemies that the group would encounter on their journey.

That’s my theory, but I still dont know why would there be a reference to this game if it wasn’t developt by Capcom? Either Capcom helped with the release of this game somehow, or the anime was just making fun of their competion.

PSYCHO PASS Questionnaire

Ciao!

First of all, thank you @white-queen-lacus (and @whatsyourcolor) for tagging me. Sorry if I answer so late but work has been really demanding and season 3 announcement has been the last straw to my gastritis, so I’ve been out of myself for more than a week.

Anyway, this has given me the chance to read all of your interesting opinions and I must say that I share a good part of them. Soooo, here we go!

Top Three Favourite Characters:

Kougami Shinya & Tsunemori Akane (I like each one of them at the same level for different reasons, but they always come together for me)

NO ONE. If there are two people on the top, the second place is empty.

Karanomori Shion, Kagari Shusei and Sasayama (btw, Kagari and Sasayama are on the top of my “You shouldn’t have died” list, even if, Sasayamakun, I’m sorry but your death gave start to Psycho-pass so it’s unavoidable)

And here I am, breaking the rules, because the title said 3 fav characters. 3 is reductive when speaking of Psycho pass.

Five Favourite Ships (Canon or Not):

Shinkane, there’s no doubt about it. They are perfect together, in every possible way, in every possible feature, in every possible direction you look at them.

Kunikara (Shion x Yayoi)..and same as shinkane for the reason. They are that kind of couple with different temper/physical appearance/ behavior that makes them just perfect together.

Gino X Risa. The ship that never sailed. I didn’t have the time to wink and say….hey 😉😉😉, what’s going on here? That the poor Risa was already blood spray on the floor. Dramatic!

No other couples…I’m not a shipper of non canon couples, I only ship couples where I sense love.

If BROTP counts, I would ship Kougami x Sasayama, the best BROTP, and Gino x Sugou.

Character I find Most Attractive:

Ok, no game for anyone here. Kougami is the male most attractive character of the series, even if Gino, jealous of that title, must have ordered that new cool ponytail cut to the hairdresser. And Sugou, he is something for sure (and so sweet!!! 😆😆)

And for the girls, even if Shion is explosive and Yayoi is the ice princess, Akane is and will always be my queen. That short haircut, the slender neck that neither a swan would rival, the chocolate eyes, her beautiful face, the slim figure…in a word, the grace personified. There’s only one way we can call her: A GLAMOUROUS WOMAN. Does this recall you something???? 😉😉😉

Character I Would Marry: No comment here. I already have a wedding ring on my finger.

Character I Would Be Best Friends With:

Akane and Kagari. Great cooking/drinking time and a lot of videogames.

A Random Thought: All my thoughts are projected to the next year. But if we want to talk about the past….when I saw the images of the first episode in season two, the one with the bomber, seeing his blue eyes, I thought it was Kougami come back to challenge Sibyl (and I have to admit my idea had been influenced by a fic I was reading at that time). That was obviously my inconscious-not-too-inconscious me who wanted to see Kougami again and was worried about him for all the second season. Every episode I was like…where is Kougami? Why he isn’t here? Why hasn’t he come back? Has something happened to him? Nooo, Tougane!!! Stay away from Akane (this wame while watching the gym scene. The damned authors used the same flirty music they used in season one gym scene)

An unpopular opinion:

I know that many like to ship Kou with Sasayama, but there wasn’t anything like that between them (you should read pp zero to see it), Sasayama was like a big bro to Kougami and vice, this makes them a perfect BROTP for me.

About unpopular opinions… @lefterstein like your theory very much. I take the liberty of quoting it here:

“I used to theorize about how we perceive Shinkane as not canon bc we haven’t seen them do stuff, but that for all we (don’t) know they might’ve been secretly doing stuff hahaha like I wouldn’t be too surprised if it were to be revealed that they have done stuff all along. hence my answer for the next 2 questions”

God knows if they did something or not, anyway, despite people treating Akane as a pure and innocent kid, she was WELL AWARE of Kougami’s physique, like we openly saw in the gym episode and we read in the final part of the psycho pass book, when she looks sleeping Kougami and the author indulges on his look described by Akane’s memory. I’m stills screaming inside.

A Pairing I’m Not A Fan Of: All the invented pairings, but the most illogical is Kougami x Makishima. Kougami moved earth and hell to be able to kill him and threw away ALL that he kept as precious and someone still ships them? Mm, ok….(I’m turning my head away)

A character that is screwed up: I partially share @whatsyourcolor idea that all people in PP are screwed up except Akane. Though I would say that all the inspectors and enforcers are screwed up in PP. Considering what enforcers went through before taking their place in MWPSB and the pressure the inspectors have to face to keep the enforcers at their place, resolve cases, etc. none of them is fully sane mentally. Even Akane, she hallucinates about Kou, she smokes just to keep Kou’s scent on her, she talks with the dead images of Yuki, Masaoka, Kagari and Makishima. 1 - Do you remember the episode/scene/ chapter that you first started shipping 6?

Merlin was recommended to me by a friend that already shipped Merthur, so I ended up walking into it expecting to ship it. I already shipped it by the end of the first season because they are so reliant on each other and “two sides of the same coin” I call soulmates

2 - Have you ever read a fic about 2?

Yes I have. I actually started shipping it because of fan fiction because there isn’t a ton of fule for it in the show. Way to go random destiel works for getting into a new ship*distant sounds of applause*

3 - Has a picture of 4 ever been your screensaver/ profile pic / tumblr?

Yes it actually is my phone screensaver currently. I’m rewatching TOS and it’s wonderful. My name is based around an inside joke with my brother regarding spirk and the enterprise so I guess that counts for something I found a shirt with the enterprise that had a rainbow trail behind it and my brother said “You know it’s because Kirk and Spock are getting it on” and I said “It’s just the spacerainbows having some fun”. Yeah that probably didn’t need to be said. Anyway…

4 - If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?

I’d cry. Cockles is beautiful. The conventions would fall and it would be sad. They are wonderful together and they know it. I would never let this happen. Even if they aren’t actually together*for all that we know* so much could happen if it stopped. Also a good section of tumblr would probably be crying and rage posting.

5 - Why is 1 so important?

I don’t know if this question means important to me or the fandom so I’ll explain my thoughts on both. For me it seems so important because Dean has been alone for most of his life constantly worrying about protecting his little brother. He always needed to be strong enough to protect because there was no one really there to protect him. Then enters Castiel, a celestial being capable of killing thousands in seconds. He’s an angel of the lord who “gripped Dean right and raised him from perdition” He has the capability to protect Dean, but Dean needs to be able to let him. I feel like this took many seasons for him to finally admit and he still doesn’t but through all of it while Castiel looses and regains his mojo Dean is always there for as much as he can. They protect one another. Dean can finally have the comfort he needs. And then there’s Cas. He’s an angel. They appear as emotionless beings that could care less about the world but Castiel isn’t, and right at the beginning in season 4 you could tell that he knew this. He was scared to admit to himself that he could and did feel. The first person he confides in is Dean. Throughout the show he embraces these feelings and grows new ones and learns the meaning of love and family*cried over season 12 episode 12* They’re always there for each other,and even if the show never shows them as anything other than platonic, their still friendship means so much. As for the fandom as a whole, I feel as though it’s provided a focus point and feeling to build. I feel like all good shows have two characters that fit so perfectly, either as friends or lovers, together; just watching the relationship solidify and grow is just showing how amazing character development can be. Then there is the fandom uniting over it. I don’t really care if you ship destiel or not or you ship wincest or samstiel or nothing at all, you still know that it exists and is something that is talked about in the show. The fact that it has come up as a topic in the show itself shows how much it has affected the Supernatural fandom as a whole.

6 - Which one has the strongest bond?

I’d have to say Spirk. Throughout both aos and tos they would do anything for each other. They would stand by each other during death and fight to save each other. Not to mention the Vulcan bonding or honds. #t’hy’la

7 - Which ship has lasted the longest

Spirk. Probably. I mean it’s know as one of the first slash pairings in existence and one of the first to actually start the spread of a fandom gathering and forming around one thing. It’s sometimes called the flagship or the mothership. I’ve shipped it since I was a little kid because I grew up watching tos and the movies. My dad said would say that they were secretly gay for one another as a joke and my small young mind believed him so I got mad whenever they were ever with anyone else and they shipped caried over to when I took to watching it again on my own. And small me also noticed how similar their actions were to straight couples and I asked my dad if they were dating and that’s what led to the secretly gay thing that my dad started saying

8 - How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up I mean.

They never canonically got together and one of them is kinda dead now until further notice. If you want to count when and before Arthur dies because of the fight and his death than sure, but there were other times when they would get with other people and Arthur was kinda married to Gwen by the end of the show so…

9 - If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive? 2 or 8?

2. Sorry Jim and Pam but you’re being pinned against a hunter who deals with zombies on a daily basis-one of the actually less crazy things he’s seen- and an arch angel capable of snapping his fingers and changing things to fit his desires. I think they would be pretty good. Also angels can heal and not die unless killed by an angel blade or in Gabriel’s case an arch angel blade, so unless a zombie can find one and stab Gabe I think they’d make it out pretty unscathed. 10 - Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reasons? I mean, this could be canon, but for all I know it isn’t, soooo i don’t really know the answer but for all we know they could secretly be hiding it right now.

11 - Is 4 still together?

I mean, is you take into account the new information brought from aos you know they’ve known and been friends with each other until Jim’s death. So I can only imagine that if it truly were canon they would still be together because they’d be able to go against time as they’ve done it before for each other.

12 - Is 10 canon?

Na, the only canon thing on my list is Jim and Pam. They are adorable and great btw. I shipped them by the end of the very short first season and all their interactions are adorable and all the stuff they go through to finally be happy together and when the start a family, aaaaaaaaa, it’s just too great.

13 - If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?

If I had to answer honestly I’d say it come down between 1 and 2 because of the healing capabilities, and then it would be a 4 way suicide. Sam and Dean would never be able to kill each other and I doubt Cas and Gabe would want to kill each other either, so it would either be a battle that would never end or a suicide. Also DON’T THROW MY CHILDREN INTO A PIT OF DEATH i cry

14 - Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5?

Mary Watson… you know how she ended up. She’s actually great though.

15 - Do you spend hours a day going though 3’s tag

Not as much as I used to but if I get a sudden urge.

16 - If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all up, which ship would you SINK?!

Stony. Sorry, but civil war kinda happened. If that fight doesn’t count as a break up as is for their not canon pairings I don’t really know what does.
