Something I haven’t heard anyone mention about episode 3 is that Clarisse was also eligible to be on the quest. Like, the director made a very conscious choice to show her and only her in the same frame as Annabeth when Percy chose her. If Percy wanted someone he thought he’d never be friends with, it would make sense for him to chose Clarisse. I think the only reason he chose Annabeth over her is because Clarisse seemed way more likely to betray him, friend or not. Like he thought he and Annabeth would never be friends, but he knew that it would be so much worse if Clarisse was there.

Something about Eddie helping smuggle Christopher into the ICU and crying all the while is so special to me bc he didn’t want to let Chris see Buck like that but he also 1. Didn’t have the emotional or mental strength to argue about it; and 2. Didn’t know if it would be the last time Chris ever saw Buck alive and didn’t want to rob him of the opportunity to speak to him one last time.

And Eddie doesn’t know this but when he was shot and Buck and Carla had that conversation about Chris like “do you think he knows what’s going on?” and “I think he understands more than we’d like him to” because he’d already lost his mom… like Carla knew that Chris understood the very real possibility that Buck wouldn’t survive this time which is why he was so damn insistent about seeing him. Because if he was about to lose another parent, he was damn well gonna get in the last word and make sure Buck knew he was loved and wanted and to convince him to claw his way back to his family.

Eddie doesn’t necessarily realize how much Chris understands, either. So listening to him talk to Buck only exacerbates his own grief and guilt.

Also I have a head canon about Eddie staring at the lightning scars on his own hands and forearms the first time he changes after the accident and feeling so guilty and terrified that he refuses to touch Buck at all in his coma until they fade, but when Chris sits with him he notices them himself and traces his fingers over them gently and when he sits with Buck he looks for them on his hands but doesn’t see any. And he asks Hen and Eddie where Buck’s scars are, and Hen explains that they’re on his chest because that’s where the lightning hit. And Eddie is just devastatingly sad but Chris is right there with him through it all…..

He would contact them when they were done with their outing, tell them they would take the house, and then sit down with the builders and the designers and make it just how they would like their home to be. It felt like a dream came through for him, to stand there in what would be their home, not alone as he had feared, but with the person, he wanted to share his life with.

Flynn: Should we visit the library in town, see if maybe they have a job for you when we move? -they smile softly- then we can look around town, and I have a very special spot I found when you were away, that I would like to show you before we head home.

Emil smiled. Seeing Flynn so happy and eager about this becoming their home made his decision clearer. But he had reservations, and worries. Part of them was terrified, terrified that moving here would put them in danger. Their family was not here. Not the red star, not the divine dragon, not even the reaper and they were scared. They were sure Flynn had briefly mentioned their father and his lover moving close with them. But Emil was still frightened.

Three dragons living among humans. What if… they betrayed them too? And hunters came? And Emil was not able to keep Flynn safe? They could not lose Flynn too and the thought something would happen to Flynn when they were working at the library or while Flynn was at work. If only there was a heartlight between them, so they could feel, if Flynn was ever in danger.

Sorry, one last bit of rambling. I'm trying to forcibly exorcise the cringe so I can focus on work again.

This song choice was extremely deliberate, though whether by production or Whistler remains to be seen.

I grew up listening to a lot of country music, so the first version of Make You Feel My Love I ever heard (and still the one I'm most familiar with) is the Garth Brooks cover. It was was all over the radio as a kid, a Billboard #1 single two separate times almost a decade apart, and was nominated for a Grammy. To this day, it's one of those quintessential nostalgic 90's country love songs. Now I'm a couple years younger than Lucy is supposed to be and from a place where country music is much less ubiquitous, but this is still the kind of shit I associate with weddings and proms and that sort of thing. For someone who grew up in Texas, steeped in country music from the late 90s to early 2010's, the romantic nostalgia associated with this song has to be off the charts.

There's also another cover of the song that I adore...by Trisha Yearwood. For those of you unfamiliar with niche American musical stylings, she is very famously married to Garth Brooks, was arguably a bigger star than him in the 90's to early aughts, and sings some of the best country love songs of all time. I cannot overstate the level to which they are the country power couple. It's an insanely devoted, will only go on tour together even though they could each sell out AT&T Stadium by themselves because they don't want to be apart type of relationship. They're also among the few big time artists in the genre who are vocal allies of LGBTQ folks, and they introduced one of the only out lesbian country artists I'm aware of to her fiancee and supported her professional coming out process, but I digress.

Both covers were produced a few years before they got married, to bookend the soundtrack for a 1998 romcom called Hope Floats. Not that it means anything, but there are some interesting surface similarities (infidelity, a former cheerleader, meddling family members trying to get a resistant Sandra Bullock to give Harry Connick Jr. a chance). Plus it has baby Mae Whitman in glasses and a soundtrack that absolutely slaps if you're into that kind of thing.

Even as the strike ends, the Palestinian genocide has not.

Now more than ever, there are so many conflicting voices. People with their own self-serving, hateful motivations speak over us, and sometimes our own voices can turn against us. We may feel like our voice isn't enough or we aren't doing enough.

This is why it's so important to learn to shut down that noise. No matter how much people scream that what we're doing is useless or a waste of time, keep talking. Keep talking about Palestine. Keep talking about Palestine for as long as this goes on, both online and in real life. If Israel won't end their genocide, we won't end our protest.
