When Adam got the news he didn’t move for three days.

The garrison hadn’t even broken the news to him in private, they made the announcement over the school comms during lunch. His knees had buckled and he fell hard, they were bruised for days.

Over the last few months he’d been thinking over what he had last said to Takashi. He loved him for fucks sake, but he was scared. They’d been engaged.

It had been Takashi’s dream to go farther than anyone else, to do everything he could, before it was too late.

Adam hadn’t understood then, but he did now. He wished they would have kissed one last time. Had a proper goodbye. He couldn’t believe he was gone.

When he’d gotten over the initial shock he realized he wasn’t the only one who had been left behind. Keith was still here, and he didn’t have anyone else.

Adam had burst into Iverson’s office asking where the kid was, Shiro had been the boy’s brother. He would be grieving as much as Adam. Iverson had just pointed at his eye which was swollen shut and said that Keith was gone. Kicked out for bad behavior. His stuff would be thrown out in a few days.

Adam seethed, of course Keith was angry, but the garrison was all he had left. When he got to Keith’s dorm room, the only thing left was a pair of keys and a piece of paper. The keys were to Adam’s house. The paper had a short note.

I’m sorry Adam. Don’t worry about me, I'll be fine. Goodbye.

Over the next few months he had searched and searched, but he had no clue where the young cadet would go.

He called his system agent, she said they’d had no word from him. Keith was just gone. No trace at all.

Eventually he gave up, he hoped the kid would be ok, he was family after all. Maybe he would come back one day.

Adam really hoped they both did.

im sick after that first kill announcement because of what it meant.

first kill was our twilight. it was our vampire diaries. it was our shitty, romantic show that gave the little tweens inside of us a chance to rest. it wasn't perfect. but it meant so, so much to so many of us.

despite the numbers. despite everything that it brought, it was canceled after the fact that they gave it almost no promoting and budget.

so im mad. im mad for the confused poc lesbian that i was when i was younger that felt a little bit seen with this show. im so mad for everything that could have been. it was a beautiful, messy thing that above everything was ours. we deserved something that was ours.

fuck netflix. first kill, with it's drawn out monologues and "you ate my mother" and romeo-and-juilet-but-sapphic storyline deserved so so much better.

Yall wanna hear a kinda funny, kinda sad story about my grandmother and hetero-normativity?

Ok, so... when my grandmother was in her 50s (I was an infant), she met a woman at the Unitarian Church. And, as can happen when you meet your soul mate, this event made it impossible for her to deny parts of herself that she had fiercely hidden her whole life.

All the drama- their affair being found out, the divorce with my grandfather, the court battle over who got the house, happened while I was a baby. Even in my earliest memories, it's just Mama Jo and Oma, and my grandfather lived elsewhere (first his own apartment, then a nursing home, then with us.)

But here's the thing- no one ever explained any of this to me. No one ever sat down and was like "hey, Rosie, so do you know what a lesbian is?" It was the 90s. It was Texas. I think my mom was still kinda processing all this, and just assumed that like... I was gonna figure it out. Don't mention it, let it just be normal. Like I think my mom thought that if she explained the situation, she would be making it weird? I dunno.

But like. In the 90s, in all the movies I had seen and books I had read, do you know how many same sex couples I had seen? Like. 0. Do you know how many "platonic best friend/roommates" I had seen? A lot. I had no context, is what I'm saying.

I literally thought this was a Golden Girls, roommates, besties situation until I was like...I dunno, 11? 12?

It was actually their parrot, an African Grey named Spike, imitating my grandmothers voice saying "Johanna, honey, it's getting late", that triggered the MIND BLOWN moment as I realized that *there's only one master bedroom and it only has 1 waterbed* when all the pieces finally clicked.

Anyway. I think it's a real important thing for kids to know queer people exist, for a lot of reasons, but also because kids can be clueless and it's embarrassing to have your grandmother be outted by a parrot because everyone just thought you'd figure it out on your own.

Anyway, here is my grandma and her wife, my Oma, after they moved to Albuquerque to be artsy gay cowboys and live their best life. They helped run a "Lesbian Dude Ranch" out there (basically just with funding and financial support. As Oma has explained "traditionally, most lesbians don't have a lot of money" so they wrote the checks and let the younger ladies actually run the ranch.)

#this is the grandmother who passed away unexpectedly earlier this month #she was so cool yall #and so weird #they got married twice by the way once when Massachusetts legalized it and once when New Mexico did #they hiked the grand canyon together #they had a european river cruise planned for this fall #she was 89 and she wanted to see the whole world with her wife #and they were working on it #literally i thought they were roommates #and there was only one bed

I like the idea of Tim and Danny meeting and just clocking each other as little shits TM.

Just causing chaos to everyone in a way that can't really be traced back to them like 'Who? Me? I was busy doing all of these other things I have no idea how I would do that?'

Danny helps Tim get revenge on the bats for all the shit he's had to put up with and being absolute trolls about the whole thing *chefs kiss*

(They planned all of it including their 'fake marriage', Danny went back in time with the help of CW who is a troll at heart, and made the legal changes including Dan and Dani as their kids (their de-aged) otherwise someone (Oracle) would have eventually realized that the license is fake. So they went back in time and made it legitimately real)
