defining will's love for hannibal as religion stands as an overpowering symbol of how will's emotions are powerful enough to mold a man into something akin to god, even with his flaws, even with his mortality, even with his own devotion to him that isn't some imprisonment or necessity or a show put up for valour or honour but formed of his own volition that itsn't driven by lust unlike so many other metaphors and so called "analogous" loves, is such strong visual and visceral representation of the human psyche omitting life outside of its own want and turning it into piety. in this essay i will...

When you have time can you do single mom reader with robby
Robby Keene x Chubby!Single-Mom!Reader
Fem!Reader ○ in this, there's no school fight; everyone is cool with each other (even though they're only mentioned in passing lol) ○ this is angsty tbh
Tagging @sensei-venus because they said Robby would be clueless as to what to do with babies and I agreed, so I included some of that.
Tumblr media
Robby unceremoniously met Reader at school. They were classmates, sometimes they worked together on an assignment, maybe they said hey to each other in the halls, but that's about it. It's nothing special and there's no reason to make a big deal out of it, especially since Robby dropped out of school and was seemingly never to be heard from again.
Yep, they met when Robby still went to school in North Hills. Again, pretty unceremonious. No one can even say they were friends.
They meet again a year later when Reader transfers schools, but she looks a little different. She's always been a little on the chubby side, but when Robby sees her again, she has fuller hips and bigger tits; her belly is a little bigger, too. Of course he doesn't say any of that out loud, they're just observations he makes as they get reacquainted.
He approaches her because he thinks it'll help her, and him, acclimate to the knew school if they have a familiar face around. Though they weren't friends before, she's happy to see Robby again. She stays as close as she can to him, as he seems to know a handful of other students and she knows no one. She soon becomes friends with his friends.
As time goes on, he gets a very nurturing and comfortable vibe from her. He doesn't know if that was her energy before, but he's into it. It gives him some comfort he missed out on as a kid. However, he doesn't think anything of it. He just thinks she has a nice vibe, something akin to what he'd say Moon gives off.
But then she starts missing school days at a time. She doesn't respond to texts often and when she does it's usually at odd hours, and they're very vague. It sets off alarm bells in his head because it's obvious she's hiding something. What if she's sick? Or she's doing something dangerous and/or illegal? His mind is reeling. He's grown feelings for Reader and he wants the best for her.
When she comes to school one day, she looks very tired. She's quiet, too, which troubles Robby even more. So he asks her what's up, but she tries to shrug it off and say it's nothing. He's not buying it though, so he lays it out for her: he just wants to help her however he can because she's his friend and he cares about her.
It works and she tells him she's been struggling because she's had a baby recently and her regular babysitter quit, so she has to be at home a lot now. It's clearly stressing her out. She starts rambling about how she's been thinking about just dropping out because she can't find another regular sitter and she starts crying because she doesn't understand the content she's been missing in school.
Robby is honestly freaked out that she has a baby. It's not because of anything she's done, but his own poor childhood and his lack of experience with children, let alone babies. However, he meant what he said about being there for Reader, so he consoles her and tells her that it's gonna be okay. Something can be figured out to help her get all her ducks in a row. She doesn't know how that'll work, but he's committed to helping her and by God he's gonna figure it out.
He goes with her to the counselor and helps her explain what's been going on. He's so good at putting his words together when he wants sympathy, he was a bit of a con artist after all, so he's able to garner sympathy from the school staff for Reader real quick. He also offers to be the one to help her get caught up in all her classes, he'll even tutor her. He's all in for her and commits to the action plan before understanding what all is involved...
Like going to Reader's house to help her with her coursework. Her house, where her baby is...
He's ill prepared to meet her child, but when push comes to shove, he powers through it. He doesn't know how to act around the little baby, who's only just gotten strong enough to sit up on their own. She has this baby, who's helpless to and curious about everything. This baby who stares at him with big eyes while sucking on a pacifier as they try to do math.
Then Reader has to go to the bathroom and asks him if he can hold the baby while she leaves the room for a minute. He can't even really answer before she's passing him the child and hurrying off to the bathroom. He freezes, completely stiff and unaware of what to do. He's holding the child by the sides, dumbstruck. He stares at the baby, who stares back at him, just sucking on the pacifier.
Then the little baby looks around and notices Mama is gone. Robby sees the emotion in their big eyes change and he knows what's coming next.
The pacifier falls out of their mouth and they're screaming at the top of their lungs before the piece of plastic hits the floor.
He starts freaking out, trying to shush the baby and calm them down, watching fat tears roll down their chubby baby cheeks as they wail. He doesn't know what to do, but he tries telling them that their mama is gonna be right back, but of course that doesn't work. He's rubbing their back while trying to find the pacifier, but he can't even see it. Nothing he does seems to help.
Eventually he puts the baby against his chest and stands up, trying to bounce them like he's seen done somewhere before, maybe. He's still shushing them and cooing to them that they're okay, everything's okay (even though he feels like everything is not okay).
Before he knows it, the baby starts to calm down and clings to his shirt. They wipe their face on his shirt, the tears and snot uncomfortable on their little face, and Robby doesn't even care. He's just glad they stopped crying.
Reader comes back not long thereafter, rushing to them with apologies spilling out of her mouth. She takes her little one and cradles them close to her, rocking and bouncing them gently as she assures them that Mama's there. She looks at Robby and apologizes profusely, but he stops her and tells her that it's okay, really.
But it's still super stressful for her and he can see how close to tears she is. So he hugs her and tells her that it's okay; he tells her she's doing great and that she's a good mom, because she needs the reassurance. She's young, she's still figuring it out, but damn she's doing so well and he knows that because her baby loves her so much. And she needs to know all that, so he tells her and makes sure she knows.
I can do a part two to this if anyone would like that.

6. Do they opmatically assume certain people are lesser than them?
7. Do you ever think that despite your muses actions/morality they do have a point when it comes to their reasons? - volo
Tumblr media
It varies a lot whether it's lose verse or win verse, but consistently at the point of in and end game, He sees everyone as lesser, and not worth saving. In ship verses (romantic or platonic, but a concrete and definable bond has to have been formed!!! even if it hasn't actualized.) he does see the protagonist as an exception; they're either equal to him, or second place, slightly below him but greater than Everyone Else. Small children or kids in general would've likely been spared to bring over into the new world- they haven't had a chance to truly be people yet, and don't have the autonomy to change the world or be responsible for it, thanks to most parents' standards. Blank slates as well.
However, it is probably safe to say that win-verse is too far gone and completely selfish- everyone is lesser. Even a ship partner, but the dynamic is nuanced due to the situation- He has gained enough omniprescence and power to attempt to satisfy and soothe their actual desires, rather than needing to either guess, obtain or ask for the knowledge via mortal means. His aim is to spoil. It's complicated with npd, but that works into his personality (and Felix's, to an extent) that treating someone well is motivated by the desire for self-perfection. Volo does like to float quite grey in my opinion- between toxic and ideal; I feel as if you should wonder about him. uncomfortable, but possible not unacceptable. Right on or near the boundaries.
So when people mess up, it gives him an extreme sense of disgust. Verse mostly indicates if, or how he acts out about it. lose verse, aka good guy verse, tends to cope by withdrawing and redirecting, while win verse is active and much bolder in conduct.
But, since NPD deals with wild ego swings technically, this answer will always depend on the moment- such as post-lose verse where his ego will dip extremely low, and he will view himself as 'lesser' and desperate for help to pull him back up. When he messes up, if that's acknowledged in his brain at all, that same sense of disgust permeates in him- but without the want to simply give up- he is not abandoning the grind.
Do you ever think that despite your muses actions/morality they do have a point when it comes to their reasons?
Tumblr media
Well of course; Volo as a general character is a symptom of something. Regardless of his autonomy and responsibility- He does not start off as a character that apparently just wakes up and decides to cause problems on purpose. It's more akin to vigilante behaviour. He did create the problem, he's just attempting to solve it in a way that may not be ideal. What the problems that he is a symptom of will depend on the writer, hence the range in portrayal.
I personally tackle a lot- whatever I come up with, but it includes Colonialism (remember Galar's RL equivilent was taking the world by storm IRL), ableism, racism/xenophobia, heteronormativity, and gender (specifically toxic masculinity and femininity respectively depending on verse.) Like, I write about real world scary shit, and I believe I lean more towards the ableism and gender side of these- more that he is an albino bisexual man (and possibly very genderqueer/fluid in god verse).
Like, him being destructive doesn't make the world not suck. The sentiment I see shared is more that people disagree with the way he went about it. It helps that the Xenophobia is straight up canon and demonstrated in game- it's kind of a shame that Volo had to be ironic about his own point and become what he hates (whether he knows that or not.)

"𝖐𝖎𝖘𝖘 𝖒𝖊 𝖘𝖑𝖔𝖜𝖑𝖞" — suna rintarou ;
Tumblr media
𝖘𝖚𝖒𝖒𝖆𝖗𝖞: suna rintarō is so much more than his bored eyes, the blunt between his lips, and his tendency to slack off—luckily, you're one of the very few people who know this; especially after he comes home to you sullen after finding out he didn't make it to the olympic players.
𝖙𝖆𝖌𝖘: female reader. fluff—established relationship. angst if you squint. comfort. mention of drug use. like, one swear word.
𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉 𝖈𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖙: 2k
𝖛𝖎𝖔𝖑𝖊𝖙'𝖘 𝖓𝖔𝖙𝖊: in lieu of the influx of toxic stoner!suna content, i offer you a piece of appreciation towards him and all that he is. i was meaning to post this in my new blog but i thought there's so much of you here who would appreciate and need this more. written on a whim at 1AM and didn't proofread so for any errors, gomen. repost because tumblr tagging hates me. cross posted on ao3 under the same username. original post here. this was written before we got information that he actually made it to the olympic team. furudate really told me to stfu, huh?
Tumblr media
It's you who find out first that there is truly so much more to Suna Rintarō than his expressionless exterior, sleepy eyes, and bored gaze towards even the most ridiculous situations. It's when his self assured stance dwindled as he walked towards you once upon a time, introducing himself first before asking you for your number.
"My number?" You echoed his request, trying your best not to gawk at his attractive features and six foot two stature towering over you so easily; making you feel oh so small. (Which is funny, given that you were already standing straight on your heels.)
"If you don't mind, 's cool if you say no," he replies, tearing his gaze from you as if he was actually anxious you'd say no.
It's funny, really. It's not every day a famous pro-athlete known for both his good looks and skills walk up to you, asking for your number and actually considering you'd say no to him and his pretty features—in fact, nevermind that he was pretty, it was more the fact that he wasn't so full of himself to actually think you wouldn't say no.
That's what makes you nod your head; your heart already beating right out of your chest as he gives you a lazy grin and his phone to press your number in. When you're done, you hand it back to him and you mentally pat yourself at the back for not visibly trembling.
"Y/N?" He reads your name from the contact information, and good God, did your name sound so beautiful coming out of his mouth. He doesn't wait for your reply anymore, looking back at you from his phone, the lazy smile still across his lips as if he knew it was a heart killer.
"Thanks, I'll text you later," is the last thing he said before he walked away from you.
It didn't take long for you to fall in love with someone like Suna Rintarō—underneath his detached personality also lied someone who was truly passionate with the things he set his mind to, gave his time to. Like you or volleyball or the video game he's been waiting to release for a whole month—it only had to be something or someone who was special enough, then, he would give it his all.
The smoke that filled his lungs occasionally did nothing to lessen your own intoxication of Suna Rintarō and his passions—because every exhale, his dark green eyes would meet yours and oh so easily, he offers you that same lazy smile yet one that was dripping with affection.
"Should you even be smoking that, Rintarō?" You had questioned him before, about the second time you've seen him put the rolled blunt in between his soft lips, inhaling it.
"It's a once in a while kinda thing, you don't actually think I'd sacrifice my career for this don'tcha?" He grins at you, amusement flooding his usually bored eyes — now glazed over with the effects of the weed—from the way he gazes at you with an eyebrow raised.
It's when you realize that Suna Rintarō was independent and knew what he was doing—did what he did with full awareness, full control, full flexibility. It's as if who he was in court was who he was in person as well.
"You're really interesting, y'know that Rin?" You had mumbled against his chest once before, it was at the first few months of dating—he had one of his arms around you with you cuddled on his side, watching a movie from his couch.
"Yeah?"
"I mean—you've always been so good at what you do, huh? But you still work for it."
"What makes you say that?" You can feel him looking down on face against his chest.
"C'mon, don't be silly. You were scouted at middle school and you only got better as you grew up!" You say, finally moving your head to meet his gaze.
But all you get is a flick on your forehead and his low chuckle, "'s not that deep, y/n," he answers.
But you already knew better.
Suna isn't one for words, and no matter how much you insist that he was beyond the description of words, he only rolls his narrowed eyes at you. You find out Suna Rintarō, your boyfriend, was a huge inspiration during your sixth month together when you finally met his little sister.
It's hard to say it wasn't amusing how snarky she was, just as he was to his friends whom you've met a few times before—Atsumu and Osamu Miya, you remember. She's quick with her tongue, easily retorting back to her brother's comments.
"Are you sure you didn't just pay Y/N-san to be your girlfriend, nii-san?"
"Nah, you still jealous I came out prettier than you?" Suna bites back, a teasing grin plastered across his face. His sister only scoffs, looking back at you.
"You can tell me if he blackmailed you to come here!" She attempts to whisper. You're not sure whether you should be worried or continue to laugh, but you do neither as you choke on the drink you were sipping on right as she told you this.
"Shit, Y/N," Suna curses as you cough, your throat burning at the drink's intrusion, but Suna's quick to rub soothingly against your back as he offers you his water, his eyes glazed over in panic.
"You okay?" He asks when you stopped coughing, and you nod in response—throat remaining slightly sore. Suna lets out an aggravated groan, "Be careful next time," he manages to scold you, but oddly enough, his words remain saccharine.
There's something about the way that his little sister doesn't seem the least bit surprised with his reaction that somehow lets you know that perhaps, Suna Rintarō might just be quite the caring brother behind closed doors.
After that, it was when Suna excused himself to take a call from his manager, leaving you with his sister.
"Hey, nee-san, promise you'll take care of Rin-nii? You won't break his heart, will you?" His sister asks, eyes gleaming with something akin to hope, expectation, wonder. It easily takes you by surprise.
"Don't you worry, I'll promise I'll take care of him, promise I won't break his heart," your voice easily softens, nodding. His little sister's gaze remains on you, as if she's assessing you and as if she would easily tell whether or not you meant the words that came out of your mouth.
It makes you hold a breath until she nods slowly, smiling at you lightly just as Suna comes walking back, eyebrows raised, knowing he must've missed something.
"Whatcha girls talkin' bout?" He asked as he slipped back on his seat beside you.
"None of your business, obviously," his sister quickly answers.
They're truly quite similar, it's enough to make you smile and get through meeting his little sister until both of you dropped her off back to the train station.
"What'd she tell you?" Suna nudged you after seeing her train leave.
"Nothing, Rin," you answered with a wide smile, leaning up to place a chaste kiss against his lips—yet just as you pull away, one of his hands has found its way behind your neck, pulling you back to him.
You never thought a kiss could feel so loving before—but it really seemed as if Suna Rintarō had a knack for proving you wrong, over and over again.
It was the day that the Olympic team was announced when you see so much more of Suna Rintarō. Quick like the blink of an eye, or lightning that leaves the thunder chasing it; Suna felt the exhaustion, the pressure, the burnt-out feeling that's been repressed in the back of his head. It comes to him, crashing down like boulders not just on his shoulders but weighing down every part of his body.
Did he lack somewhere? He wonders. Where did that lacking end and start? What could have he done? Was it training, where he spent most of his time now? Suna had end up seeing you less and less since the drafting of olympic players started and you've been nothing but patient.
What was he supposed to tell you? After all the time it has stolen away from you—that he didn't make it?
When he opened the door to your shared apartment, he doesn't look up at you with a relieved sigh as he usually would—he avoids you gaze entirely, he avoids your observing eyes from the couch you sat on, watching him slowly shrug his shoes off.
"I'm just gonn—" he started, about to make an excuse to avoid looking at you.
"Prepared your bath, Rin. C'mon," Suna hears you say but it doesn't sink in his head, watching you take his hand, leading him to the bathroom.
Suna remains silent as he looks down on the bath you prepared for him, warm and inviting.
"Meet me in the kitchen when you're done, okay?" He hears you say, followed by the echo of your footsteps walking away.
You easily understand that Suna Rintarō was more than his talents, his efforts, and every little thing about him when you feel his large arms wrapped around you, his broad chest pressed against your back and his face buried on the crook of your neck. His fresh scent right out of the shower engulfing you and invading your senses, flooding you with him.
"'m sorry, bunny," he mumbles.
"You have nothing to be sorry about, Ri—"
"It's odd, thought I'd pull it off, thought it'd be nothin' if I didn't make it. Don't know why I'm so upset right now," he continues, cutting you off, "Been so patient for me too, bunny. Thought I'd be nice to make you proud, ya know?"
Your sigh comes out sharp from the heavy feeling from your chest, not knowing what to do to make him feel better—like he did with you, always knowing his way around your low moments.
You wriggle out of his arms, making him grumble until you fully face him. He looks back at you with a small frown, eyebrows furrowed, watching your expression.
"I'm always proud of you, Rin. Olympic player or not, you make me so proud," you speak softly, your hands cupping each side of his face.
"Don't even get why it matters to me this much, it's just—" it was your turn to cut him off, tipping your toes to press a lingering kiss against his lips. Suna smiles against your lips, carrying you to sit on the kitchen counter like he always did—knowing you always would have to tip on your toes to reach him.
Soon, the lingering kiss turns slow and passionate—lips softly grazing the other, and it feels more like pouring the heavy weight of love out of your chest and into the other. A kiss so loving, so reassuring, so passionate—the kind that easily takes your breath away and makes your mind go blank. When Suna pulls away, he rests his forehead against yours, breathing heavily. You smile at him because it's all you can do when your heart feels like it's going to leap out of your throat just to offer itself to him entirely—and Suna smiles back at you, pecking your lips before wrapping his arms around you again, resting his chin on your shoulder.
You run your fingers through his hair, hoping it would help soothe him, and then you say, "I promise that you'll make it next year, Rin. I'll be with you now, and I'll still be with you then."
It only makes him hold you tighter, closer to him, "I love you, Y/N."
"I love you, Rintarō. You deserve the world and all the stars in the galaxy."
"'s too bad there's nothin' more I need than you, then."
That's what Suna tells you—Suna, who was smoke in his lungs, dumb videos of the twins to blackmail them with, little mistakes, bored eyes, and lazy attitude. The same Suna who was slow kisses, passion, and genuine smiles reserved for you—the same Suna who gave his passions his all, the same Suna who held you securely in his arms every night, the same Suna his little sister admired. Most of all, the same Suna Rintarō you loved with every beat of your heart, every fibre of your being.

The Final Farewell
Chapter 1/1 - - - Read it on AO3
Word Count : 885
Summery: Our lovable bard reaches the end of his life, having lived over 80 years as a human was an impressive feat on it own, not including how full his life was. Jaskier found his own life after the adventures, a wife and many children. He loved them and when it came time for the end, they knew they weren't the only people who needed to let him go. Geralt and Jaskier haven't seen each other in years, but it's only right that Geralt was invited to his bedside to say goodbye.
—————————————————–
Jaskier lies in his bed, time has finally gotten to him they all fear. It's been over a week since he's even been able to sing, longer since he'd been able to leave the bed. Jaskier and Geralt hadn't seen each other in years, possibly as few as 5 and as many as 20 by different accounts, at Jaskier's age he can hardly remember and Geralt doesn't feel the years the same way a human does, so he's not entirely sure of the length either. Whether they'd fallen out of touch, had a fight, or if Jaskier was just unable to follow him past a certain point, no one knows. But they were best friends, so when Jaskier had been laid into his bed for what would be his final days, all the people who loved him found a way to gather the Witcher. So they might have a goodbye.
Geralt arrived swiftly when he received the news. Days had passed and through the painful waiting Geralt's sat at his bedside, watching his bard. Jaskier looks so different now, grey-white hair sprouts where there once was warm brown, wrinkles crease his face at every conceivable angle, he's so thin now. The only part of him that is truly familiar to the decades that Geralt has known him, are those bright, icy blue eyes that even the gods themselves couldn't dull. But they've reached the end, they both know it. Geralt knows the feeling deep in his bones that it's happening, he sits still and silent. Scared, like even a whisper might shatter whatever's keeping Jaskier awake for just a moment longer. So, in the dim quiet of the room that murmurs with only the sounds of a flittering candle, Jaskier speaks.
"You know I loved you, right?" he asks through a series of coughs.
Geralt brings a glass of water to his lips for the last time before he answers," I knew."
"Good, back then I was always embarrassed, worried that you'd figured it out, but now it seems like it would've been sadder had you never known. I'm happy you knew." he sighs, like it's a gift.
Geralt's eyes fall to Jaskier's feeble hand held in his own, not too tight he reminds himself, his friend is frail now. Jaskier tenses, and rolls his body as far as he can towards Geralt, to properly look at him as he readies himself to pose the question he's been holding for far too long.
“Was there ever a chance? For you and I?” he asks somewhere between genuine curiosity and a begging for something, anything from this man he used to call his best friend.
Geralt sits silent, still, face fallen as it always was, like a statue who’d never faced emotions, like it was easier to walk through the world with the mask,” No.” he answers curtly, honestly.
Part of Jaskier laughs. Whether it’s the part of him that breaking into a million pieces or the part of him that feels something akin to relief, he’ll never know. But it laughs all the same. Jaskier might've given up on his fantasy of romance with the Witcher long ago, but the admission left a bittersweet kiss on his heart.
Through the hollow chuckles, he settles himself and replies,” Maybe not. At least it was no fault of my own. Nothing I lacked. No choice I’d mistakenly made. No gift I was unable to give.”
“No, it’s not your fault. There was nothing you could’ve done” Geralt tell him, feeling a deep pain in his chest like he's harming Jaskier. Jaskier says it like it's a kindness to be given this answer, but Geralt feels like he's delivering one last cruelty before he may rest.
Jaskier relaxes back into the bed with a gentle smile on his lips," Thank you, Geralt. Don't sorrow too long, darling. I've lived happily, for long enough."
Geralt stiffens, and dares to squeeze the hand just a little tighter. Like if he could only give to Jaskier his own strength, then maybe he could hold on to him just a little bit longer. He feels the tears before they're allowed to spill, the pressure building behind his eyes and the heat coming to his face.
Jaskier closes his eyes, and leaves one final lament of goodbye," I'll always love you."
And as the words hit him like a promise he can't return, he hears Jaskier's heartbeat fade to nothing. The stone figure that dutifully stood in Geralt's place begins to weep. Heavy salt tears spill over his cheeks like liquid regret and he crumbles into himself. Clinging to the hand like if he let it go it was really over. Oh how he wished he could’ve loved the bard. Only the gods know how many times he’s begged them to bless him with the ease to love his best friend. But Geralt’s heart would never give. Despite him, it seemed only able love woman who were bound to hurt him, never the best man he's ever known.
To love Jaskier would've been a gift. But it was a gift the world would not give him. And so Geralt cried, to grieve not only the passing of his favorite person in the whole world, but also to grieve the life he'd never have.

A/N: I fought tooth and nail for this prompt so I hope you like it anon 👀
Dabi had left the Nightscape for several reasons.
For better scenery, for less screaming, for.. for a third reason, and to escape his crazy as fuck ex girlfriend who never seemed to get the point that they were done. She was a phase, she wasn’t the endgame.
Did she get that as he tossed her ass out of his apartment? No, she just came back with a lighter to set his home ablaze. But the woman didn't realize he controlled flames as easily as he did breathing.
So he left. He packed a few things, clothes and whatever currency the humans were using nowadays and went up to the world beyond. His father was one of the lords of the Nightscape, but he didn't need to worry about slipping past him, Dabi was thought to be dead for ages.
More like “Touya” had been dead for ages, but that was a clusterfuck of different issues he didn't care to unfold.
Living above ground had added perks beyond escaping a crazy ex and not being surrounded by shades and wraiths on the daily. He could take on the form of a true human, not the horned and fanged form he usually wore. His tail was gone, and his scars and staples were replaced with tattoos and piercings, but he grew used to his new form very quickly.
In the human world, humans had long since developed quirks, so his flames were not an oddity. He was thankful for them when he was questioned about how he got his scars, scars that would occasionally show through his glamour. It was an easy answer, his body couldn't handle his “quirk”. People gave him sad eyes and let him go.
Easy.
What he did struggle with was the occasional demon hunter nearly tracking him down, but he always managed to turn their eye the other way. Was it testing the line choosing to live so close to a school that trained demon hunters? Yes, but he was always good at magic, a simple glamour always did the trick.
When he scored a job at a coffee shop, he was pleased to see it was a simple transaction kind of job. No one would be able to ask him why his eyes were constantly rivaling the blue of his flames or why a phantom tail would lash out and occasionally spill the row of cups behind him.
He pegged it as a ghost haunting the shop, and so it became a little inside joke within the workers ranks and some of the shop's patrons.
Opening on a rainy Wednesday, he looks around the room before lighting the candles at the tables with a flame on his pinkie finger. Setting up the tables and scooting in the chairs, he walks back to the counter and sets up the machines when the door rings, signalling someone had entered.
“Welcome.” He rolls out in a soft purr, a habit from years of toying with his playthings as an incubus. Eventually he would get rid of the habit. “What can I get for you today?” He turns around.
You were soaking wet with a satchel above your head, you were shivering and looking at the coffee machines as if they were god sent.
You looked adorable.
He leans on the counter with a growing smile. “Wet out there isn't it?”
Your gaze snaps to him. Your eyes were a soft mahogany color, reminding him of a tree. It wasn't the most romantic thing he could come up with, but trees were also very rare to find in the Nightscape, so he supposed it was based on your point of view. “C-Coffee. Please.”
“Sure thing babe, what kind?”
“A mocha cappuccino with three shots of espresso.”
He quirks a brow as he types in your order. “Three?”
“I usually get five but my doctor told me I need to cut down.”
“How about you aim for two?”
“I don't think I’d survive that loss sir.”
He chuckles. “Sir?” He asks as he tells you the price of your drink, accepting your soggy wad of cash and giving you your change once the transaction was complete. “Well madam, your drink will be out shortly, take some napkins to dry up, they’re by the sugar.”
He spots a small blush on your face as you go to the condiments counter. “Thank you.”
Of course.” He prepares your drink as he hears you pluck a plethora of napkins out of their container. Small curses are all he hears as you open your bag, he hears the clicking of latches and the zipping of zippers. You scuttle past the counter and stop in front of the register again.
“Do you have a bathroom? My bag is drenched..”
He brings you your drink and tilts his head as he debates your question. A bathroom wouldn't solve the water issue, you just thought it would.
Dabi places your drink on the counter and holds his hand out. “I can dry your bag.”
You smile, adjusting your glasses in the mean time. “You have a wind quirk?”
“I'm not a blowdryer.” He grins. “But I can still dry it for you.”
You debate his words, looking down at your soggy satchel that was only getting worse as time passed. You hand him the bag with an accepting sigh. “Please.”
He takes your bag and lights his hands on fire. You nearly scream before he speaks up. “I can control my fire, this one won’t burn anything, it's just warm.”
“Oh.” You shut your mouth with a sheepish bow of your head. “Sorry.”
“It's alright.” He turns the bag in his hold, looking at the patches and bad attempts at embroidery on its edges. It was cute. The sad little attempts seemed to get better as they reached the top, which led him to believe this was your first attempt at embroidery.
What would you do if he had burnt it to ash?
His flames were highly destructive, and sometimes even he couldn't handle them.
Maybe he was being risky to test his powers like this. It had been ages since he last used his flames for something more than lighting a silly candle or a cigarette.
“So..”
Oh right, you were still there.
He looks at you and rotates the bag in his hold. “Yes?”
“Is it always this empty?”
“Only when you're here.” He winks.
“Rude.”
“Rude, sir.”
You laugh, and from that point on he's hooked to the sound.
-
Dabi used to like his job, now it was turning into something akin to gratitude. It allowed him to see you on most days.
He had learned quite a few things about you ever since that rainy day.
You were a teacher in training, specifically the nearby high school. You were aiming for Shiketsu and had a foot in the door with the vice principal taking notice of you during their mock trials. He didn't peg you for a demon hunter, but everyone had a hidden side to them. Hah. You had two pet birds named Sweet Pea and Darlington, you had a snake named Petra and were looking into getting a newt.
You loved coffee but hated it black, it needed sugar or chocolate of some kind because you couldn't stand bitter food. You loved spicy food even if you couldn't tolerate it, and you adored sour candies.
While you looked book smart, you were also street smart, and he was beginning to believe you might be vying for a spot as a demon slayer teacher. He just didn't know what your quirk was yet.
“Hey Dabi.” You chime in unison with the doorbell as you walk inside, this time with an umbrella to keep yourself out of the rain.
He leans on the counter with a grin. “Hey babe. What is it today? The usual?”
“Just a shot of espresso this time.”
He narrows his eyes. “Are you sick?”
“Nope.” You fold your arms behind your back, rocking back and forth on your heels with a huge smile on your face. “I got news.”
“Do tell.” He says as he starts preparing your shot.
“I got the job!” You squeal in excitement, arms coming out of hiding so you can clasp them in front of you. “Starting in the spring I’m going to be the new first year homeroom teacher!”
He genuinely smiles. So you wanted to ruin your happiness with a shot of liquid bitter? He didn't understand you sometimes.  “I thought your celebration drink would be a sakura latte, not a shot of espresso.”
You wave your hand dismissively, already removing your wallet from your pocket. “I'll come back for one.”
“Two visits in one day? Is that a gift for you or for me?” He chuckles and hands you your espresso, taking your yen and entering it into the register.
You adjust the glasses on your face. "I figured I would grace your presence because you've been so humble as to fuel my caffeine addiction."
"It's my duty to make sure you don't kill some other sorry bastard with a coffee maker."
Your eyes flash green for a split second, and in that moment he has to keep from reeling back. Did he really see that?
The cups behind him tumble to the ground.
His tail had appeared in his brief moment of shock.
You cock your head to the side. "What happened?"
He kneels and collects the cups. "The shop's ghost. Don't mind it."
"I thought I saw a-"
"How about I give you the latte now? On me." He interrupts you mid sentence, standing up with the cups in his arms.
The blush on your face was one of his favorite sights in the human world.
"You don't have to Dabi."
"It's just a drink." He waves you along to one of the booths. "Sit, it'll be ready soon."
You take your shot of espresso and go to the booth he had motioned you to.
The way you scrunched your nose in disgust as you drank your shot was also one of his new favorite sights.
Maybe it was just you.
--
After you had gotten your job at Shiketsu, you were around every morning to prepare for the day. Sometimes you would come by for lunch, unfortunately he clocked out on those days, but sometimes he would make sure he was in the area just to catch you off-guard. Those days he spent his lunch with you, and you got to tell him stories about your students.
It was one of your lunch breaks when hell came to toll.
His eyes were trained on you as you spoke, you were talking about a girl who wielded fire similar to him when the bell of the cafe rang.
The sound resonated through him, and in that moment he knew who was at the door.
What was at the door.
His glamour of his new human form nearly drops as he hears a woman's voice ask from the counter of the cafe.
“Is Dabi here?” She croons in a sickly sweet voice he hadn't heard in nearly a year. He doesn't hear his coworkers' response but he feels the air fill with the flowery scent of her. He grits his teeth to keep his fangs from showing through as he hears her heels click against the ground.
You had stopped your explanation and looked behind him, adjusting your glasses as you did so. “You're looking for Dabi?”
“I am, what a sweet peach you've got here Dabi~ I didn't know you still had it in you to snag such a cutie, your charms must still be working even in this sad form.” He feels her hand on his shoulder, her fingernails drumming along the stitching of his jacket. “Did you catch her, or did she come crawling to you?”
He knows he has to speak up, before she says another word, but his fangs were already piercing the inside of his lip as his glamour slipped.
He looks at you with the most apologetic gaze he can muster. Grabbing his coffee, he lifts it to his mouth to hide his fangs and he speaks. “Excuse me.” He stands up and slams the cup on the table, grabbing the wrist of the woman behind him and dragging her out of the shop and into the closest alleyway.
He slams her against the wall with her arm pinned above her head. His glamour drops completely, his scars and horns bared for the world to see as he growls with rage. “You!”
The succubus in front of him smiles coyly, dragging a finger across his scars and the staples holding his mouth together. “Aren't you happy to see me? To see one of your own again?”
“No. What do you want?”
She plays at pulling on one of the staples but is stopped as he pins her other hand up as well. The succubus sighs and turns her head, “I come see you and all I get is this. And seeing you with a little human.” She peers at him with violet eyes. “Don't tell me you've gone soft Dabi. She’s human, she’ll die just like a human too.”
He hadn't let that thought slip into his mind and wasn't planning on starting to. He tightens his grip on her wrists. “We broke up, I made that clear.” A feral grin forms on his face, pulling at the staples on his face. “I told you, if you try me again, I’ll kill you.”
“I heard you had a human now. We all heard.” She whispers, her eyes glowing in the dark of the alley. “They know Dabi.”
His grip falters.
Shit.
Shit. Shit Shit-
He lets go of her wrists and he paces in the alleyway, flames licking at his face as his emotions spiralled.
“They need your power, but you’re squandering it here with a girl who will die before you know it. While you're full of youth, she will be an old crone with nothing but a coffin awaiting her.” She didn't sound bothered at all as she rubs her wrists. “Honestly Dabi, you were the one that taught me never to fall for a human. They’re too brittle, their life essence too weak.”
He did teach her. He taught her to keep her heart shut and to leave it open only for him. He taught her a little too well, as she now believed she had rights to him.
But he never taught himself as well as he did her.
He fell for you bad, and you were mortal.
“Anyway, I was told one of two things. Either bring you back with me, or expose you so you have no other choice but to return.”
He looks back at her, his rage quelled only by the dread that was now spiralling in him. “You will do no such thing!” He roars, his flames igniting and setting him ablaze. “If you dare go near her-”
The succubus’s body transforms into mist starting from her feet then rising to her waist. She puts a finger to her lips. “I’ll be back in three days. If you don't do it, I will.”
She was gone. Leaving him alone in the alley with nothing but flames that wouldn't stop burning.
-
Dabi spent the next two days trying to find ways to tell you, but with each scenario came the same question.
What would you do if you knew he was a demon? You worked at a school that trained demon slayers- what other option for you would there be if not to turn him in? It was your duty to turn in any demon that showed up at your door, and here you were having coffee with him.
He couldn't do it.
On the third day, it was raining, just like the day he met you.
He hated the mist that had surrounded the shop, reminding him of the succubus and her promise.
Three days.
He had to tell you.
But why was it so damn hard to do? He used to be cold and calculated, having his fun toying with human emotions and killing without regret. He had no empathy, no sympathy for the lives he ruined.
But you were kind. So incredibly kind.
He rests his head on the counter as the door opens. He scents you in the air before you even step through, the smell of milk and honey wafting in the air as you approach the counter.
He had to tell you.
“Morning Dabi!” You cheer as you fold up your umbrella. “A mocha cappuccino with two shots of espresso please!”
He looks up and smiles crookedly. “Finally down to two?”
“I figured I would finally listen to you.”
“That's my girl.” He chuckles as he grabs a cup and prepares your drink. His hands were shaking, but he knew what he had to do.
When your drink was ready and paid for, Dabi keeps his hand on the cup as you take it from him, your hand overlapping his. You look at him with curious eyes behind your wide rimmed glasses. “Dabi? What’s wrong?”
“If I told you I was a bad man, what would you do?”
You narrow your eyes, but keep your hand over his. “Stealing a croissant from the place you work at isn't evil Dabi-”
“Not that.” He laughs but it's noticeably strained. “Not that.” He looks you in the eyes, greedily taking in the sight of you, for perhaps the last time. “What if I told you I was a bad man, who did horrible things. Whose caused terrible things.”
Your hand tightens around his, he feels the tremors in your body before you still.
“I would tell you I know better than to judge you for what you've done, and tell you that I judge you for who you are now. Does that forgive you of what you've done or what you've caused? No. But I judge what I see. And I see a good man.”
He lets out a shaky breath as his glamor drops, revealing his true form of scars and fangs and horns. His flames curl around him as he whispers. “What if I'm not a man?”
You jump back, hands flying to your glasses before they could tumble off of your face. You stare at him with your jaw hanging.
He looks at the coffee still in his grasp. At the scars covering his body.
He knew it.
He puts down the cup.
He knew it.
Clapping comes from the corner of the room where the succubus has taken form, her body still halfway between corporal and mist. She smiles, showing off her sharpened canines. “Bravo Dabi, I almost thought I’d have to do it myself.”
You shut your mouth and look at the succubus. “You're from before-”
“I am.” She purrs. “And I’m here to take Dabi home. Shigaraki will be happy to see his lieutenant again.”
Dabi burns away his apron, leaving him in his normal attire, the stitches of his black coat catching his eye. Memories of your embroidered bag slip through his mind, though are soon flushed out entirely when he hears the shattering of tables as a high pitched shriek comes from the mist succubus.
He phases through the counter in a wall of heatless flame as he sees you covering your ears.
The shriek had destroyed the tables and windows turning them into scrap, and had shattered your glasses. Blood was running down your ears from between your hands.
He stands between you and the succubus, his arms lit with powerful blue flames. “This wasn't part of the deal!”
“Not our deal. Shigaraki doesn't want you to have any temptations for returning to the human world. We need your girl gone for good.” She grins fiendishly. “She will never grow old, isn't that the best gift you could receive?”
“Dabi-” You call out from behind him.
“Stay back!” He yells at you. “Get out of here!” But he knew if you went into the rain outside, you would be done for. The succubus would be able to drown you where you stood.
Her body turns to pure water as she rushes at him. With her power boosted by the rain that washed in through the broken windows, all he could do was send wave after wave of fire to evaporate the water.
But what was evaporation if not mist?
He was fighting a losing battle as he backed up until he finally reached you. He covers you with his body as he puts up a wall of flame.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers to you as his flames are soon put out. “I’m sorry.”
You lift your hands to his face, eyes still closed, and pull him in, pressing your forehead against his.
“Don't be sorry for the things you can't control.” You whisper in return.
The succubus’s body turns corporal from the waist up. She coos. “How sweet, one last goodbye.”
You press a kiss to his lips.
“Don't open your eyes.” You murmur against his lips before letting go of his face and turning around to look at the succubus.
He closes his eyes, prepared to hear you scream in pain, prepared to hear your body drop to the ground.
But all he hears is the loud boom of thunder from outside and the crackle of rock breaking.
Rock?
He opens his eyes and sees you on your knees in front of a marble statue of the succubus.
His eyes widen as he sees you stand up. From the reflection of the marble, he can see your eyes flashing green.
“Did I ever tell you my mother was a demon?” You ask as you kneel and pick up your eyeglass frames from the floor. “She called herself Medusa. Silly, huh? My dad was human though, and well, as you know, they had me..” You turn around, your eyes now closed. “I guess you can say my quirk is having a very strange lineage.”
Dabi gets to his feet and runs at you, barreling into you with his arms swiftly wrapping around you.
You return the hug, your face nuzzled into his chest.
“So.. you're not mortal?” He says quietly, as if the good luck that had been shone upon the both of you would wither out.
“I'm not. It's my hundred and twenty-fourth this year.” You look up from his hold, he could see the faint glow of green from under your eyelashes. “Will you be there?”
He tightens his hold and presses his lips against yours.
“As if I'd ever leave.”

Lesson 57 analysis + 58 predictions
It's less exciting than anticipated, probably.
tl;dr Summary
We start asleep, but overhearing Satan + Belphegor plotting to prank us. You can choose how to surprise and foil them. They're just here to tell you breakfast is ready. Belphegor finally rewards you with the star of diligence: MC is one star away from completing the exam and earning their sorcerer's license.
Lucifer is eager to make MC a full-fledged sorcerer because he could use them to ward off Solomon's advances, which apparently he's still making. Asmo tells us that Solomon is very picky, and driven, when he's choosing who to pact with.
And he's apparently very adamant about getting Lucifer.
The others note that Mammon and Leviathan are acting unusual, and they clearly are very distracted. We decide to ignore the strangeness for now and answer Barbatos's summons to Hotel Corvo.
And guess who is also being summoned!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We arrive, and Diavolo informs us that there's an evil phantom now haunting the hotel. Not just any ol' phantom, though: a bogeyman.
Apparently they're pretty tough and might have the upperhand against demons. They take the form of what their victims' fear most. They put several hotel guests in the hospital.
We find out that the reason why Mammon and Leviathan are being so weird is because they know they're responsible for the bogeyman being in Hotel Corvo: they went wild with Crowe upgrades and summoned it accidentally, then ordered Crowe to teleport it to Hotel Corvo after it transformed into Lucifer and scared them out of their wits.
Obviously, Lucifer's not happy! Barbatos assigns him to "fix" the problem. The brothers want to leave Mammon and Leviathan to do it on their own, but of course we can't have that.
Diavolo also seems keen on joining, but Barbatos turns on the scary fake smile and Diavolo relents.
Tumblr media
Then the others show up! It sounds like it wasn't a planned get-together, but Solomon is eager to make the best of it. He wants to make our quest to banish the bogeyman MC's final trial.
Simeon is initially reluctant, but MC convinces him to join.
And then we're off down a creepy hallway in the hotel. The lesson ends on a cliffhanger as the creature at the end of the hallway suddenly attacks us.
Don't worry, Lucy will save us, probably.
This is the start of the trial of humility.
Analysis
Barbatos's Plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Probably the most noteworthy thing about this lesson is how clearly Barbatos is setting all this up, even though he has no visibly obvious motivation to do so. He's summoned everyone to the same location under different auspices and he's making sure Diavolo isn't around. We still didn't get any insight on what he and Lucifer talked about, but I think Lucifer's being deliberately steered by him in this direction, too.
Since this doesn't seem to be something he's coordinating with Solomon, it leads me to believe he's either doing something to foil Michael's plan or he's setting up some kind of trap for the guy. For whatever reason, he doesn't want anyone else to catch on just yet.
Simeon's reluctance to stick around and help us is also noteworthy: he probably has Michael plans on the brain, and his intuition is probably trying to warn him. Alas, he can't say no to you.
Also, the BG being a bunch of doors and keys probably means something. Barbatos's room has multiple doors which lead to multiple places, I think: can't remember if they're just portals to different parts of the three realms or different points in time, but if I was a betting gal, I'd put my money on the latter. It doesn't look like his room (it looks like an old hotel), but I wouldn't be surprised if these doors lead to "flashbacks" similar to the ones we ran into back in the fake House of Lamentation.
The Bogeyman and Lucy's fears
It's implied that the bogeyman has powers that may make it difficult for demons in particular to cull. It sounds something an angel might be effective against, though, because Solomon insists Simeon accompany the group just in case "things go south". Though Simeon seems unsure if he can actually be effective against it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who do you think is stronger than Simeon, who is an archangel who was once a seraphim? He could just be downplaying his power, too: he's less threatening that way.
The bogeyman also has the ability to take the form of whoever or whatever his victim fears the most: we discover that Mammon and Leviathan fear Lucifer the most when they initially summon it.
This trial is 100% going to involve Lucifer facing what he fears the most. My guesses: it'll be either Father or Michael. They can do the former if MC doesn't necessarily see the same form Lucifer sees (they likely fear something different)... but if whatever form the bogeyman takes is noticeable to everyone observing it, then it's going to be Michael because I don't think the devs are going to give God a tangible form for reasons.
Why Lucifer could fear Michael? Simple: not only was Michael the one capable of bringing him low during the Great Celestial War, but he may know Lucifer better than anyone. All his strengths, but more importantly, all his weaknesses. Lucifer fears being exposed as flawed and imperfect, particularly by those he considers his lessers. It's also not the first time he's expressed something akin to fear re: Michael.
Tumblr media
Another possibility is Lilith. He could fear facing her after failed to protect her. That'd be difficult to manage on-screen, though, for obvious reasons. They haven't given Lilith a canon appearance yet and it's in their best interest not to because they've been using MC as the Lilith expy in the Celestial Realm flashbacks.
Whoever or whatever it is, it'll be fun.
Solomon and his pacts
Another thing this lesson did was remind us that Solomon really, really wants a pact with Lucifer. We found out a couple lessons ago that his whole motivation behind forging a pact with Asmo was his interest in Lucifer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Up until this point, Solomon has been pretty upfront with his desires and usually backs down when they deny his request to make a pact. He asked Belphegor back in Season 1, and he hasn't brought it up again after he was rejected.
This doesn't seem to be the case with Lucifer, though. His rejections have been ignored.
He's being unusually cavalier about this whole situation so maybe he would try to manipulate the current situation to wring a pact out of Lucifer, since he hasn't been deterred yet and something needs to change in order for him to get what he wants.
I don't know. Lucifer might be his blind spot, and something he wants badly enough to step over the line, so to speak. Why he wants Lucifer so bad is another head scratcher, but it could very well be because just because the guy is incredibly powerful.
Or this is just another red herring meant to make us suspicious of Solomon again. I guess we'll see.
Predictions
We have only three lessons left, and they set this lesson up as the lead into the climax, which is going to be later than where it was in season 2. But it can't afford to happen much later. 58 will give us the first half of the climax at least, and I won't be surprised if it wraps it up entirely in one lesson so we can have both 59 and 60 to say our goodbyes. It'll feel pretty rushed otherwise.
Michael's showing up in some capacity. I'm much more willing to bet on a face reveal now than I was at the beginning of the season: we haven't heard anything from him directly since the first flashback -- not even another chat -- and he hasn't even officially introduced himself yet. But we've been hearing all about him this season, and they've made it a point to let us know he's working on something behind the scenes. It feels like most of this season was softening the ground for his arrival, and he'll drop in to get us hyped for the next season.
I think we're headed back to the Celestial Realm, baby!
Luke's not with us at the haunted hotel, so he'll likely remain oblivious about what happened during the Great Celestial War until next season. Simeon's not gonna fall because he'll probably need to be our tour guide, and we have a bunch to explore about his background, too.
I was hoping we'd get some kind of conflict with the Sorcerer's Society as a part of the completion of the exam but I'm not sure if they can fit all that in now. Kind of disappointing: trying to smooth things over with them sounds much more interesting than Mammon + Levi just letting out a literal boogeyman. I don't think they're using their story themes as effectively as they could be. It's just Levi's tech going awry again, like it always does.
How I'll rate this season will depend entirely on what the climax actually turns out to be, but so far I'd rank it higher than season 2 but lower than season 1 because of the re-used tropes. Stop teasing us and just give us meaty conflict already.

Okay so continued from this ask about Kyoko
Anyways, as introduced in THH, Kyoko is an extremely distant person with an iron mask, which intimidates everyone around her.
Everytime she happens to be described, she is described as something akin to a ghost aka not someone belonging to this world because of how ethereal her presence is.
She was moulded (read: traumatized) by her grandpa to become a detective to the extent that she was desperate to prove herself to him to not get kicked out like her father (she was also manipulated into believing that her father left because he didn't care about her by said grandpa) since her grandpa was...well the only one who had showed her a proper modicum of love at that point.
Her family took being a detective as something involving an extreme amount of honour which resulted in her trauma.
She also... didn't know what she was apart from a "perfect Detective" and was terrified of that internally (she has a LOT of parallels with Nagito which is why I REALLY want them to team up atleast ONCE likedanganronpaIambeggingyou), since she felt like an empty husk due to repressing her emotions since forever.
Because that's how a true detective should be (...it's really scary how MUCH she fits my own ideal of a detective), operating by cold hard logic to uncover the truth from the messy web of lies and make it known. A detective was to not take sides, nor aspire for fame (coughSherlockHolmescough), they must always remain neutral and not let personal feelings or prejudices come into the way, and she followed that.
Now, in the first game (I assume it was the worst for her since all she knew about herself was simply that she's a detective), everyone loses their memories of their school life with each other, leading them to believe that they had just met. They all remember their Ultimate Talents (heads up: An Ultimate Talent is something that you must be the very best at in your particular field in your age group. If you are like that, then Hope's Peak Academy personally scouts you and you are invited to attend the school as an "Ultimate"), apart from Kyoko.
Yeah, she quite possibly forgot that she was a detective, or atleast she forgot that she was the Ultimate of it, nevertheless, the main source of her self confidence and rigidity was lost to vague memory, which I believe caused her closed off ness to be more exaggerated, since I believe she was TERRIFIED. Imagine the one thing you stake your identity on....which you end up forgetting.
Throughout the game, she basically carries the class trials by herself and is virtually the only reason the six survivors are actually survivors.
However due to her upbringing, she has another issue which happens to be...
....severe trust issues. She has been told not to trust anyone and considering that they are in a literal KILLING GAME, you really can't blame her.
However, this leads to her downfall.
In Chapter 3, she disappears since she has presumably found a secret passage in the bathroom which she was investigating along with the school to find the secret of the Killing Game and the mastermind. She refuses to trust her classmates and shoulders the entire responsibility onto herself, since she desperately wants to uncover the truth....
.....her motto which she has been clinging onto for dear life, underneath all the turmoil.
Makoto (our sweet sweet protagonist, the nicest person ever in Danganronpa) notices this and gently tells her that she can rely on him....that she doesn't have to shoulder everything by herself. He doesn't act pushy, he just tells her that it's okay for her to trust people since she literally looked dazed when she came back in Chapter 3, and she goes,
"Okay, I will give this trusting people thing a try."
She then trusts him with the secret of the bathroom hidden passage but he ends up getting attacked and in bed. F.
Anyways, that causes him to become the target of the mastermind.
Now Kyoko, apparently due to her training is capable of hearing "Reaper's footsteps" aka she can "hear" when her or someone she really loves's death is close.
Now, when Makoto nearly gets killed by the mastermind, Kyoko hears it and fights them off. The mastermind had been planning to kill Makoto and frame her as his killer which she realised so she stays at his room until she's sure the danger has passed.
Anyways, she obviously leaves and then the rest of the classmates discover a dead body whose mask they try to take off but it explodes and Makoto notices that they are dressed the same way as his attacker was. Kyoko arrives way late which makes him wonder whether she had killed that person or not.
Fast forward to the trial where she says that it's now or never for her.
Anyways.
What we have to remember about Kyoko is her MAIN motivation aka solving the mystery. She wouldn't hesitate to make sacrifices to get to it. She is dedicated to her job.
[We also have to remember that she spent her life travelling from place to place, always shifting schools, causing a lack of proper attachments. The only attachment she had was her grandpa until she met Yui Samidare who dies pretty soon during a case via self sacrifice for Kyoko in a way. During all this, her motto and her dedication to it were the only constants].
Anyways.
The mastermind attempted to frame Kyoko for that particular dead body, but Kyoko manipulated the whole trial and framed Makoto as the culprit instead to save her own life.
Makoto gets sent to the execution but doesn't die since his Ultimate Luck talent saves him and he gets thrown into a trash dumpster.
Kyoko comes to save him and apologises. A small sign of trust since she literally never does that. Makoto was virtually the only one she trusted since despite her frosty exterior, he tried to get to know her, but didn't push and just gave her space......and said trust in her backfired and caused him to nearly die but anyways—.
At that point, Kyoko has remembered her Ultimate Talent (Ultimate Detective) and she trusts Makoto with that. She further trusts Makoto with telling him about her frustrations against her father. She didn't even admit them to herself until much much later.....and she trusts him enough to say that.....
....maybe because of how easily he forgave her but eh—
Anyways, she finds her father's skeleton in a nice little box, gift wrapped and everything which causes her to lose her composure ever so slightly and Makoto leaves to give her space to collect herself.
~~~~~
Even though the first game was essentially Hope VS Despair, it was also about Trust.
Since if you do not trust in the feeling of Hope, you will fall into despair.
Something we can see with Kirigiri in a way.
Kyoko being a detective is possibly the best way to broach the topic of trust, since lies and truth are directly connected to it.
If you are truthful with someone, then that usually means that you trust them.
Kyoko's motto was to remain neutral and without biases which caused her to actually develop a bias, nearly getting her best friend killed.
She wanted to solve the mystery and uncover the truth, however she also realised that without trusting others with some modicum of the truth, she wouldn't be able to do so.
When she arrives at the very end of Goodbye Despair in the 6th trial, it's nice to see her relationship with trust having grown enough to give the Remnants a second chance by trusting that they would be able to find the core truth inside themselves to break free from the lies crafted by the mastermind's brainwashing.
Hajime finds his own truth and decides to go "fuck this, I will make my OWN future" due to this.
[She ALSO finds out that her father was involved in Hajime's inhumane brainwashing which probably just destroyed her last bit of trust towards Hope's Peak Academy but eh].
In DR3, when she holds Naegi's hand with her ungloved burnt hands, it's a symbol of HOW much her trust has grown in order for her to bare her wounds like this to reach to him and pull him out of his own despair.
In conclusion: She's the best person ever and deserves the world
Tumblr media
●      Coming from a medical school in the UK, you moved to America in order to do your internship in Edenbrook hospital. This is due to the fact that Harper Emery was one of the doctors there, and what better way to learn medicine but under the best of the best.
●      To your disappointment, it seems that all residents were not going to be taught by Dr Emery herself but two of the senior doctors, who have introduced themselves as Dr Baz and Dr Ines.
●      Your very first day was interesting to say the least, as you were about to make your way to the hall for orientation, a patient collapses on the floor, and you spring into action ensuring that the person was alright. It was stressful, but you realise that it's one the things that you will have to deal with as a doctor.
●      If anyone said that on your first day as a licensed doctor that you would have to intubate a woman, you would have laughed but that's precisely what occurred on your first day.
●      It didn't help that on your very first day that the first thing you saw was Jackie in her underwear, considering you were on your way to change to scrubs, ready to start the day. You would be lying if you said that you didn't enjoy the view considering she didn't seem fazed at all that you were staring for a few seconds too long. The smirk she sent your way certainly didn't help either, causing your cheeks and ears to go a bright shade of crimson.
●      This is when you learn that Jackie is from the same department as you. Both of you being interns for Internal medicine.
●      Deciding that being shy and bashful will be no use considering the changing rooms are for all interns, you decide to change into something more suitable, fully aware that someone's eyes were on you.
●      Jackie's eyes trail over your body, and as far as she can tell, she has no qualms about seeing you getting changed. "You gonna take all day?" she says whilst you retort "The way you're looking at me, it seems that you want me to." This earns a smile from Jackie. "Well played."
●      All of the cohorts are welcomed to Edenbrooke by Dr. Harper Emery, the very doctor that you strive to be, and you cannot help but feel giddy and excited about your time at Edenbrooke.
●      Meeting the other interns was interesting. There was Sienna Trinh, a sweet and friendly girl, as well as Elijah Greene who was all smiles, excitement visible on his face. There was also Bryce Lahela, who seems calmer than the other two, but also very friendly.
●      However, there were two people who particularly caught your attention, one Jackie Varma, as well as one Aurora Emery. They were both the most beautiful thing you have ever seen. Gorgeous even, Jackie had an air of confidence and pride, whilst Aurora gave off an air of mystery and sophistication to her.
●      The very first person that you were partnered with was Aurora, and first impressions were quite unfortunate, both of you seemed to want nothing to do with each other. Especially since the other girl seemed so hostile when introducing herself. Understanding the difficulty of how strict her upbringing must have been you sympathise with her. "Growing up must have been difficult."
●      To which Aurora seems shocked that you said it, however the surprise is quickly masked. "Let's skip the pleasantries and check on our patients." You're left confused as you mumble "Those were pleasantries?" You give a quick nod of goodbye to Jackie as you follow Aurora to your first patient.
●      "Shouldn't we discuss our course of action for our first patient?" Your words seem to fall on deaf ears as she continues to walk ahead of you. "Look Aurora, I understand that you don't like me, but we need to at least be civil and discuss what we need to do. I refuse to have lack of communication be our downfall as partners." Aurora just turns around and soon as she faces you she rolls her eyes. "We don't need to discuss anything, you do your job and I'll do mine."
●      You couldn't help the frustrated groan that escapes your lips, as you power through and go to meet your first patient. It's safe to say that you and Aurora are definitely not besties, but even so there's always those weird stares, something akin to longing and sometimes you think you see a hint of apology in Aurora's eyes.
●      Meanwhile your relationship will Jackie is the opposite, you two get along. So quickly in fact you would've thought you've known each other for ages. Things start to progress, especially since you move into a share house along with Sienna, Elijah, Jackie and Laundry - ehem - sorry not sorry, Landry.
●      The two of you grow closer, as nights out become a group thing, and all of you love together, after all safety in numbers, but there are times where you and Jackie spend time together, but you're not exactly sure considering she's friendly to everyone. (Oh, honey)
●      Aurora, as much as she loathes to even think about it, she does respect you. Your unwavering determination to learn more, as well a fight for your patients is something she strives to achieve. She won't tell anyone but she genuinely does think you're good at your job and you're not exactly bad looking? This train of thought is deleted from her memory as soon as it enters her mind.
●      It doesn't help that you don't seem to hate her even though she doesn't exactly act civil towards you or anything, so imagine her surprise when you walk in on her upset and instead of mocking or laughing at her, you do that thing where you try and comfort her.
●      Due to your awkwardness, you try to crack a joke and Aurora is taken aback, so much so she ends up giggling. "What do you call bread with honours? An honour roll." Aurora just quirks her eyebrows at you as she giggles. "You're an idiot, but that made me laugh so, thanks I guess."
●      This is when she knows that she's crushing on you, and so the longing stares begin. She's more civil and the two of you actually start to get along, and you drag her to the nights out with the group.
●      Despite your obliviousness, Jackie tries so hard to flirt with you, so that her intentions are clear, but since you're so dense, she just cracks one day. "Goddamnit, I like you, you fucking idiot." You're just standing there confused. "Wait, you were flirting with me?" Jackie just rolls her eyes at you. "I have been for the past few months, thanks for noticing."
●      Jackie is the first to ask you out, and Aurora is disappointed when she sees the two of you go out. She knows that she should have tried harder to pursue you but damn, does it hurt.
●      Everything changes though when you admit that you have feelings for both of them, and you expected to get laughed at but to your surprise you're met with a kiss from both women.
●      You're left a stuttering and blushing mess as you try to process what happened, and the other two just share a laugh, because damn, you're an idiot but you're their idiot.
●      Dating both of them is like yin and yang. Jackie is definitely the one that gets you and Aurora to get out of your comfort zone and try something new which both of you are always appreciative of.
●      Aurora is the one that calms both of you down when things get too rough or too tiring, she's there to keep both of you grounded. Also a mediator when you and Jackie clash more often than not.
●      Whilst you're just there like, "damn am I lucky or what?" In which the other two just tell their eyes at you. They pretend they hate it but they genuinely adore it when you compliment them both, you're there for Aurora whenever she doubts herself and you're also there for Jackie when she thinks that she is not doing enough.
●      Aurora is definitely in the middle when you cuddle, there's just something about her that makes you and Jackie so soft, you're both whipped and you can't even complain since Aurora is perfection, which she vehemently denies but you and Jackie are quick to tell her and remind her.
●      Jackie is definitely a blanket hog, and you and Aurora are left cold because god dammit Jackie stop taking all the blankets. In which it is decided that if Jackie can't share a blanket you all get one each, unless you know it's one of those nights. (Wink wonk)
●      When it is revealed that Laundry the rat was the one that tried to end your career the two are quick to jump in your defense and they don't hesitate to rip him a new one. "Damn Landry, I didn't think you would stoop that low but what did I expect once a rat always a rat." It's also one of the only times you ever see Aurora get genuinely angry, and not going to lie, she looks hot.
●      When things get too rough because Ethane says something to upset one of you, the other two quickly reassures the other that they're doing their best and that Ramsey is just being a prick.
●      There's an inside joke between the three of you in regards to Ramsey, let's just say that none of you can look at Dr. Ramsey's neck for a prolonged amount of time without laughing.
●      Being with these two is so much fun but it also feels like home. Before you know it, you're in love with them, it's not like it's a big secret considering you can't help but feel that way since they're a constant presence in your life and you can't imagine life without them.
●      You're the first to say "I love you." It's nothing dramatic, it just happens naturally and slips out. The other two are quick to respond.
●      It's domestic af, but Aurora cannot cook to save her life so you and Jackie make sure she's nowhere near the kitchen.
●      Even if Jackie vehemently denies that she likes rom-coms, you know better than to believe her because you've seen cry one too many times when watching 'The Notebook' meanwhile Aurora is a big fan of psychological thrillers and horror and you're always left clinging to one of them when it gets too scary.
●      Aurora doesn't have the heart to wake you and Jackie up on some days and she'll never say it but she does let you sleep in a little bit longer. She always wakes up early, even when you have a day off.
●      It's rare but when Jackie wakes up earlier than both of you, she actually prepares breakfast with Sienna's help, who can't help but teass Jackie for being whipped.
●      All in all you can't help but think that you're the luckiest person for dating the two of them. Bryce always teases you. "You're really lucky, how did you even manage that?" You just shoot Bryce a dopey smile. "Just because I'm dating them doesn't mean I know how." He just laughs and let's you stare at Jackie and Aurora in peace.
NSFW Headcanons
●      Jackie is a top, and even when she's bottoming she's going to be a power bottom, she's gonna be the one in control. Aurora is the opposite, she's a bottom, and she's so fucking hot that other bottoms would probably want to top her.
●      Jackie definitely leaves hickeys on both of you, sometimes in places where it can be seen, such as the neck, but she's also prone to leaving marks on either of your thighs.
●      Aurora is quite shy and reserved and the first time sex happens, she admits that she's never slept with anyone. In which you and Jackie make sure that she enjoys her first time. The attention is definitely focused on her, and although she's quite shy about making noise, you and Jackie quickly tell her that you want to hear her.
●      This makes Aurora skin flush. You and Jackie swear that neither of you have seen anything as beautiful as Aurora in this moment.
●      Your favourite time is definitely when Aurora sits on your face as Jackie uses a strap on you, the other two definitely agree.
●      If Jackie has a shift and it's only you and Aurora, sex is soft, and slow as you both take your time enjoying each other. You usually take the lead but there's times where Aurora does get jealous of Dr. Ramsey and the way he stares at you in which she makes sure to kiss every inch of your body. Who knew sweet, sweet Aurora gets frisky when she's jelly.
●      Sex with Jackie is passionate and intense, where Aurora likes it slow and steady Jackie likes it fast and rough. Her hands are all over you, touching every part of your body, anywhere she can reach, she leaves a trail of hickeys in her wake, not really caring where as she's only focused on you.
●      When Jackie and Aurora sleep together, it's a mixture of slow and steady as well as fas and rough, it all depends on how their day went, but Jackie's definitely cheeky enough to try and fluster you by sending some risque messages or snaps. Jackie definitely adores hearing Aurora because she just sounds so hot.
●      Jackie isn't the type to get jealous but she doesn't really like it when anyone other than her or Aurora stare at you for a prolonged amount of time, in which she doesn't care who sees as she kisses you in front of everyone, same goes for anyone flirting with Aurora.
●      The three of you are definitely not against trying new things out, and it's always fun to discover new things.
●      Jackie is the type to try and fluster Aurora by sending nudes, and sometimes you can't help it so you play along, and Aurora always comes home bothered and needy, honestly she's super cute and hot at the same time so no complaints.
●      However if both of you try the same with Jackie, once she arrives she's going to be frustrated and it has led to either yours or Aurora's underwear being ruined and you have half a mind to tell her off. "Stop ruining our underwear, or else no more nudes for you." Jackie just rolls her eyes as Aurora laughs and nods her head in agreement.
●      All in all sex with these two is always something that you live for, considering it's always mind-blowing.
A/N: I hope this did Aurora and Jackie justice. I hope you all enjoy. Please send requests lmao. I promise I will do it as soon as I can lmao.
(oc anon!) don’t worry about the speed of which you’re replying! i know it takes time to write characters, especially their relationships to others (when theres so many factors to consider) so pls!! take ur time!! i’m more than willing to wait ^w^ mayhaps while ur one it, i’ll be working on my own ocs >:33
and so true!! u either go big or go home with this guy, bc he knows what he wants in his life!! and that’s a healthy relationship that he can depend on for life baby!! in all seriousness though… his view of romance kinda reminds of jack, both of them taking it extremely seriously and daring someone = lovers for life. at least,, that’s how i’m understanding it
ok the fact that jade cater AND ace are all down bad? hilarious. love that for them >:3 especially the latter two since cater is the one of the few ppl to fall for ppl and express their crush to them (cater to vil comes to mind) whereas ace would rather die with his feeling buried deep. sharp contrast if i do say so myself! >:33
MALLOSYNE ENDGAME LETS GOO!!! i’m a big fan of “yuu” ships (or whats akin to a yuu sorta in ur ur verse) so seeing them be end game makes me extremely happy!! and slowburn to top it off!! can u get any more of a perfect combination? i can’t wait to see the development of their relationship of acquaintances to friends to lovers bc that transition is always the best :3
and since malleus is Old(tm) and has been lonely for practically over a millennia, i think he’d be the closest in seeing the “real” mnemosyne, wouldnt he? at least i hope. if not him then mnemosyne’s friends in general, bc he deserves ppl where we can let his guard down and truly be who he is without hiding any part of himself
SNIFFLES FANK YEWW ANON FIR YOUR PATIENCE 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。 cithee greatly appreciated it :3c!!
HEHEHEHHE Jack and Mnemosyne definitely bond well together (also like.buff duo???? They are jacked :0c)
Having those 3 specifically is definitely an interesting combo by itself cause GOD theyre all extremely different with how the whole having feelings thing (also I do not think they handle it well 💔 rip boys it was nice knowing you all)
MALLOSYNE THATS SO GOOD HOLD ONNNNN like like my name for them is timespinner cause for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to their names together but hehehehehe coining your term anon fank yew (*´∀`*)
Mnemosyne is like Semi Yuu??? But that's just his story role his overall an MC (Yuna on the other fulfills more of the Yuu requirements)
makes me all soft to think of Malleus genuinely enjoying Mnem's company and looking forward to always meeting again. That slow little build to a very normal day where he looks at him and realized oh. He's given something so so special to him, a bond and trust and companionship and he asks for nothing in return but that Malleus simply gives his own time to be with him (;_;)
Mnemosyne don't get crushes, love doesn't work that way for him but he accepts Malleus' want to add a romantic angle to their relationship. Having someone who can look at him and his burdens, his sins, his fears, and still accept him? Still see him for the loving person he is? It's a bliss only few could ever bless him with. To see under the surface and decide the atrocious thing you saw was still worth loving because it's the thing that makes the other person them. Those two deserve a happily ever after even if it by all means isn't exactly a conventional or traditional one
3, 4, 18 !!
im a writer! ask me these!
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
one SCENE?? not au?? alright. well the entire reason i haven't started my super au i've been outlining is because of a few scenes:
jack's identity is found out
some crazy illegal testing akin to that scene in deadpool where they're trying to activate his meta-gene
davey discovers the whole blackmailing plot, and who's at the dead center of it.
but a scene i've always wanted to write is probably a javid breakup, because i'm horrible. it'd start with some small action, then leads to a tone of voice that rubs one of them wrong, and both of their defensive, stubborn tendencies lead them into a screaming match where all the ugly truths bubble over. it'd just be so hard to write all those subtleties in perfect sequence... god
4. Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)
oh BABY this is from something you guys might never get to see (very sad bc it's.. some of my best work) bc it isn't my au. but here u go:
“You’re speaking differently than how you used to,” Davey commented, smiling slightly. Observant as ever, he still was. “It suits you.”
Jack had hardly noticed, actually, his proper dialect simply slipping away as if it’d always been meant to.
“Thanks,” he said, rolling his eyes. “I’m sure my more middle-of-the-road accent’s real entertaining for you.”
“That it is,” Davey teased. “Though, what’s more entertaining is you in my library, at… one in the morning.”
Jack tensed, just barely, wondering if Davey could feel it. There were a few truths bouncing around his head at once in terms of how he wanted to answer the other boy. According the mission, he was in the library to take pictures of expansion notes.
According to the mission, Jack had been supposed to leave more than a few minutes ago. Which was where the other truth came in.
“I wanted to see you,” Jack admitted. A small, hopeful smile pricked his expression, despite the silence hanging in the air around his words. “I really wanted to see you again, Davey.”
i just REALLY like whatever i had going on with my pacing?? narration got to control the dialogue in this fic, since both davey and jack in it are extremely analytical and trained in different manipulation tactics, so jack has to think of every sentence before he says them. and this is the moment where he doesn't. UGH>
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterizations?) Tell us about them.
uhhh uh uh. well, i did talk about almost giving thank u next an epilogue. i had a spider-man ralbert au (now THAT'S from the rizz archives. check that mf date) where i planned to make albert into a winter soldier type character?? and there was going to be an avengers-esque team coming into play? but lord that would've taken me years.
besties pls send me more of these!!! thank u jac :)
Homecoming
Pairings: Steve Rogers × Female! Indian!Reader
Summary: You bring Steve to Mumbai to meet your Family.
Warnings: None I guess.. Some Indian references, talking in Hindi but side by side translations, fluff, tell me if I miss any.
Word count: 4620
A/N: Hey guys! So this was inspired by @pies-writes-and-more' s story Makeshift Thanksgiving dinner (Its amazing go check it out). And ever since I read it I wanted to write one like that myself with an Indian reader. We all need some representation.
I have tried to make it as natural as possible with all the things I do when I visit Mumbai. There were so many things I wanted to add but couldn't at the moment. Maybe I can add that in a possible sequel where Steve learns about Diwali?
I hope you guys like it!
This story is not edited yet
Tumblr media
"You look perfect already you know that right?" Steve says, crouching down to get to your level, pressing your cheeks together and looking in the mirror in front of which you stand, trying to decide the best hairstyle
"Shhh" you shush him and he just rolls his eyes "its been a while okay, I'm just scared"
"From your own mother?" He says taking hold of your shoulders and turning you to look at him "from what you told me, she doesn't seem that strict"
"She is not" you shake your head "its just me, I kinda feel guilty for being gone for so long"
"Hey" he says moving his hand to caress your cheek "its gonna be alright. She knows it was important. And from what you have told me, she did encourage you and its been what two years"
"That's a long time for us Steve"
"But now look at you and the success you have achieved, she will be proud"
You nod your head and give him a small smile
"Thank you" you wrap your arms around his neck and he moves forward to take hold of your waist and pull you in for a long heated make out session
When you pull back, you look at him, breathlessly bringing your pointer finger in front of his face
"Remember do not--"
"Kiss you in a public space or in front of your family" Steve continues, shaking his head "I know"
You hit him on the shoulder lightly, an offending smile on your face
"Its important information"
"I know" he gives you a small smile, taking your hand in his and moving towards the exit gate of the quin jet
"Mumbai here we come!”
----------------
"I need to take something over" Steve says through the blaring of horns of the cars around as he sits besides you on the rickshaw "My Ma always said to take wine or some flowers when visiting a dame's house"
Tumblr media
Your eyes widen and you shake your head vigorously
"No! No wine and no beer"
"Okay?" He looks at you uncertainly "I can't go there empty handed"
"Why?" you ask, knowing the answer but still teasing
"Because its manners and well" he blushes a little "I wanna impress her.. Okay?"
"You wanna impress my mother" you laugh "isn't she a little young for you?"
"Ha ha ha very funny" he nudges your shoulder as a scooter honking loudly passes beside your vehicle
"Sorry" you say, laughing "couldn't help it. And don't worry" You place a hand on his shoulder "I got it covered"
---------------
You ask the rickshaw driver to stop at a place a little away from your house and get down, paying in accordance to the meter.
Steve gets out after you, pulling all your luggage out and looking around at the busy road, observing the countless shops that line both the sides.
The narrow street has a divider in the middle that separates the vehicles going in opposite directions. Along the footpath, where countless pedestrians walk countless shops line the entire perimeter as far away as he can see.
There are book stores with books lying on a counter, jewelry stores, bakeries, toy shops, an umbrella stand, a small shop that seems to sell grocery items and so many more, Steve can't even name them all.
You look at him as he looks around the street, his eyebrows furrowed as he tries to take it all in.
You are so thankful for Nat and the Bionic mask she provided you with as no one recognizes Steve. To them he is just some random white man and not Captain America.
He does get double takes and stares from locals not used to seeing foreigners in this part of the city but you can have that as long as 'Captain America in India' does not become trending news. This is to be a peaceful trip.
"Follow me and if you get lost" you dig in your pocket, producing a business card "Here, this is my Mom's just show it to someone and ask for directions to her house"
"Can't I just call you?" He asks confused
"Call me?" You exclaim "I don't currently have an Indian Sim card, its at my mom's house. Do you know how much an international call costs?"
"So you would rather I have to hunt for your mother's house in a place I don't even know the language of, rather than call you for help"
"Okay fine" you roll your eyes "just call me and if for some reason your phone does not have signal just ask a shopkeeper if you can make a call. They would be happy to help. And DO NOT use the poor guy's phone to make International calls. You have my sister's number just call her okay?"
"Got it" he gives you a fond smile "Calm down"
"I am calm" he rolls his eyes "I mean, its just, its an unknown city for you and it can get crazy sometimes"
"I am from New York doll" he smiles "I know crazy"
You just shake your head
"or so you think"
You motion towards an area crowded with people in the middle of which sits a man with a big wok cooking something.
"Stay here and take care of the luggage" you say before pushing through the crowd and ordering 15 vada pavs. Steve looks at you with his eyebrows raised as you come back back to stand besides him as the guy prepares your order
"I don't know what this thing is but 15?"
"Well its called vada pav, its kind of like a umm... patato cutlet in bread with some chutneys but better" you say, giving him a small smile, moving ahead as the guy gives you 2 before going to pack the rest. You give one to Steve and bite on your's. He observes you before biting into his.
Tumblr media
"Oh wow" he says through a bite "its really good. Like a little spicy and sweet but its good"
You smile at him through a bite and a hiccup escapes your mouth "God I missed real spicy food" you say closing your eyes before looking up at him "if its too spicy, I can get you some extra sweet chutney"
Steve just shakes his head as he takes another bite "No, I kinda like this taste and its not that spicy"
"Me too" you smile "and I kinda already had him put extra meethi chutney in yours"
"Meethi?"
"Sweet"
He nods his head "I still don't understand Why we bought 15 of those"
"Well, 2 for us right now, 2 for me when I get home, 2 for my sister, 2 for my mother, 2 for my aunt uf she is home, 2 for you, then 1 for the maid or 2 if she wants , extra if some neighbours show up or if we want more and the rest for breakfast tomorrow" you say as you finish yours
Steve looks at you amused
"Trust me, they will all be over before you know it"
"You sure love this thing"
You just nod your head cheekily but before you can say anything else, the shopkeeper calls out to you, waving the bag with your order. You pay, take your order with a 'Thankyou bhaiya' and he gives you a small smile.
You come back to Steve showing him your polythene and smiling.
"All done" Steve pulls the bag out of your hand before you remind him of all the other luggage by his feet which he promptly picks up. You try to reach for your bag before he shakes his head and motions for you to just to lead the way and you look around to get another rickshaw. Super soldier or not there is no way you will let him walk this distance with all your luggage.
-------------------
"Okay one last time" you say as Steve pulls out the last bag from the rickshaw and he sighs
"The moment we see your mother, I gotta touch her feet and you will pretend you forgot to do it and she will be impressed by me"
You nod your head resolutely
"This is so stupid" he says grumbling as you take out your phone to call your sister
"You wanna impress her or not?"
He nods his head, sighing dejectedly.
You seem to realize you can't call her with international roaming so you ask Steve to wait as you look up towards your mother's apartment. Its only on the second floor so circling your hands to make a make shift microphone, you scream your sister's name
"TANYAAAAAAAAAAA" Steve visibly flinches next to you, moving to cover his ears
"Are you crazy???"
You wave a hand in his direction, screaming again. He looks around to apologize to any neighbors that may be disturbed but no one seems to care.
A moment later a girl comes up on the balcony of an apartment on the second floor and screams back
"KYA?" (What)
"SAMAN BAHUT HAI NEECHE AA" (there's a lot of luggage, come down) you scream and Steve winces again, looking at you in irritation
Your sister just rolls her eyes in irritation before muttering a "Theek hai" (ok) and running back inside
A minute later Steve sees her coming out of the main entrance on the building and giving you a tight hug. You hug her back, Something akin to tears forming in both your eyes as you hold on to each other.
She rubs your back before turning to Steve and frowning
"I thought you said your boyfriend was Captain America"
You just shake your head and move to pick up a suitcase as Steve picks up a bag and a suitcase. Your Sister picks up the rest of your stuff, sighing and moving towards the stairs.
---------------
The door to the apartment on the second floor is open as you make your way in, placing the bags down on the living room floor before taking your shoes off near the shoe stand.
Steve copies your actions but picks up both your shoes and his and places them on the shoe stand. You shake your head, smiling back at him as he gives you a teasing smirk.
He observes the beautiful living room of the house with shelves lining the front wall and a television in the middle of all the show pieces. An L-shaped sofa set sits against the back wall of the room and behind the sofa a gate partially opened to reveal the entrance to a balcony. The dinner table is pressed against a far corner besides the corridor that leads to the other rooms in the house.
On the main wall just above the TV he sees countless pictures of your family along with a framed one which he recognizes as your father from the pictures he had seen with a flower necklace around the frame.
He turns back to you but you are busy looking around the house searching for your mother before she comes out of the kitchen, wearing a beautiful yellow colored salwar kameez.
You move to run and hug her before your plan comes to mind and you give Steve a look.
He quickly moves ahead as your Mom reaches you both and bends down to touch her feet.
She looks at him confused for a moment before her lips break into a fond smile and she places her hand on his head.
"Jeete raho" ( live long)
Steve seems unsure as he looks at you and you give him a discreet nod as he stands up.
Your turn
"Oh no" you say feigning shock and bringing your hand to your heart "I completely forgot, thanks for reminding me Steve"
You say and then bend down to touch your Mother's feet to seek her blessings, missing the defeated sigh by Steve and eye rolling by your sister.
Your mother gives you her blessings too before shaking her head at you and crossing her arms, her eyes narrowed
She turns to Steve
"This her master plan?"
Steve looks at her, startled. Not because he is shocked she saw through your horrible plan but because she asked him. He looks at her a moment, a little scared before remembering he needed to win over this woman even if it meant pushing you under the bus.
So he just nods his head and your mother sighs
"And I was supposed to what be naive and stupid and think that you know how we great our elders here while my daughter, who I raised teaching all this forgot?"
Steve feels his heartbeat quicken by the look she gives him and he nods quickly
"I tried to tell her it was a stupid idea" he says and you look at him incredulously and mouth traitor.
Your mom shakes her head again
"She has been like this since she was young" your mother says, a smile gracing her lips "coming up with the most mundane ideas"
"Tell me about it" Steve rolls his eyes before realizing where he is and shaking his head and looking at your Mom apologetically "I-I didn't mean to-"
Your mother grins at him "Don't be so scared of me beta. I know she has not changed a bit"
"Mummaaa" you whine and she turns back to you, laughing
"Mera baccha" (my child) she says and then pulls you into her arms. You have to bend a little with your height difference but you quickly hug her back. Tears stream down your cheeks as she gently moves her hand up and down at the back of your head. The hug lasts a long while before she pulls away to look you over
"Kuch khaati hai ki nhi?" (You eat something or not?) She says taking hold of your face between her hands
You nod your head at her, rolling your eyes
"You've gotten so thin" she says
"Only to you. I've only lost a little weight because I started learning self defense from Nat"
Before your mother can say anything more, you are interrupted by your sister
"Nat as is Natasha Romanoff?" She says moving forward "Black Widow? She your friend because now I'm really doubting you. I was promised Captain America, I took a day off and he" She turns to Steve "No offense"
"None taken"
"He is not Captain America"
"You took a day off work because you wanted to meet me" you say laughing
"You tell yourself that" she mutters "now I don't mind if your boyfriend isn't a super hero but like why would you lie to me?"
You just roll your eyes before moving forward and hitting the back of your sister's head
"I hoped you would have learned some manners by now but clearly I was wrong"
She narrows her eyes and moves to hit you back before your mom interrupts you both
"Girls we have a guest over" she says "show some respect"
Before any of you can blame the other for the fight, Steve moves forward and removes the Bionic mask, revealing that he in fact is The Captain America.
Your sister's eyes widen to the size of saucers as she stares and stares and stares before Steve looks at you uncomfortably.
You sigh
"And she says she has manners" you say to tease her "Come on Tan, staring is bad"
This seems to wake her up from her daze and she looks at you in shock before turning back to Steve
"Wow dude, that was so cool"
"SHEILD equipment" you say "Didn't want to attract any unwanted attention on the way"
She nods in understanding before your Mom reminds her to bring water for you guys as you maybe thirsty after the journey.
Your sister seems to have just realized that and nods her head before running to the kitchen and coming back out with a trey and 3 glasses filled with water on it, she offers them to the two of you and then your mother and all of you gulp it down.
"You wanna go inside and rest for a while?" Your mother asks
"Actually we were a little hungry" you say looking over at Steve as he blushes, scratching the back of his head
"Oh yeah!" She says quickly rushing towards the kitchen "I have made so many things for you"
You try to offer your assistance but she insists you have come home after a long time and she wants to serve you today.
You furrow your eyebrows looking at your sister and she just gives you a smile back. It was very rare for your mother to be sentimental. But maybe being away from your child for so long does that.
As your mother comes to sit on the small dinner table after she has placed all the containers, bowls and plates in front of you guys.
Steve looks over at the dinner table, looking nothing short of an entire feast. He knows even he and Bucky can never finish this much food. Even together!
When he looks at you, he smiles at the wonder in your eyes as you too are busy browsing through the dishes set on the table, removing the lids to inspect the items.
"Haye! Mumma I missed your pav bhaji so much" you say moving forward in your seat and taking a serving of the brown curry or something Steve doesn't understand what it is on your plate.
Tumblr media
Then you take a spoon full and put in on his plate
"This is called pav bhaji. This is the bhaji or ummm basically like mashed mixed vegetables and you eat it with this" you move forward to remove the plate that covers a bowl and produce a bun, picking it and placing it on his plate.
"Its the same bread we ate with the vada pav"
He nods at you, taking it all in. He has always had an interest in your culture and had tried to learn everything that makes you you.
He copies your motion as you break a piece out of your pav, folding it to make a spoon and then dipping it in the bhaji before eating it.
"This is really good" Steve says as he takes his third bite "You made this mam?"
Your mother goes to nod before you speak up
"Yup" you say between a mouthful "Mumma makes the best bhaji. Even when we lived in Delhi, all my friends loved her pav bahji"
Steve smiles "Well you can add me to the list of people that like this"
Your Mom gives out a small laugh and moves a plate in front of him
"You don't need to flatter me Beta" she says "I know you may not like this food so I ordered pizza for you"
Steve looks at her, his eyes wide "I no- I like this, there's no need to-"
"This is like the best pizza here" Your mom says smiling at him "Its Tanya's choice so I don't know how good it really is"
"Mummaaaa" Tanya wines as you all laugh
You turn to Steve "Tani has the worst choice when it comes to food"
"Yeah and you with your pineapple on pizza are the best food chooser"
"Hey! Its good"
"Okay girls stop" your mom says and you both stop to look at her "Fight when I'm not around"
You both laugh and nod at her before going back to your food.
Your Mom offers the Pizza to Steve which he promptly denies telling her he would like to have the things she made while you nod and say the same thing. Your sister on the other hand takes three slices.
The conversations goes as Steve gets to try more of the Indian food. The table is lined with things that your Mother prepared because they were your favorites. He tries some kind of small yellow colored rolls called khandavi, Steve couldn't for the love of himself pronounce it, there's samosas which he has had before in the Indian restaurant you took him too but these ones have cheese in them because you only ate them like this when you were young.
He specially loves the lassi which is a milk based drink and your mother tells him about how she learnt it after getting married to your father seeing as he was from the north where the drink is originally from.
Tumblr media
When your Mother serves him a serving of the shahi paneer with some rice, Steve moves his spoon to take a bite before you hit your leg against his. He turns to look at where you sit besides him in confusion
You give him a look and he internally groans and sighs
"Oh I will eat this with my hands" he sighs discarding his spoon, and looking at his plate having no idea how to do this
Before you can initiate the next step of your plan your Mom laughs and turns to Steve
"She put you up to this?"
Steve immediately gives a nod, not even fighting for you and your Mom turns to you with narrowed eyes
"Leave the poor boy alone will you"
"I didn't-" you try to speak and she shushes you
"You have never in your life been able to eat chawal (rice) with your hands, how do you expect the poor boy to do that?"
Your Sister snickers while drinking her lassi.
"I eat rice with my hands" you try to defend yourself and your mother just snorts
"The floor and table eat more then you do when that happens" she says
You narrow your eyes at her as a smile comes to your lips but before you can say anything, she turns to Steve
"Beta, whatever else stupid plans she has given you just abandon them"
Steve nods his head, smiling "Yes mam"
"You can call me Aunty" she says with a sigh "Mam makes me sound like I'm at work"
"Okay Aunty" Steve grins, feeling like he is making progress as he dives back to eat his food having to close his eyes as the ras malai melts in his mouth.
Tumblr media
The conversation around the table goes on as your mother enquires about his job and life during the war. She gives a nod of approval when he expresses how impressed he is of the work you do and assures her he would never have problem even if you work odd hours.
She tells him about how your father was a doctor too and your biggest inspiration to persue this field how no matter how sceptical she was about you going to the states alone, she knew your father would have wanted anything that would have been best for your career and she wants that too.
When you get teary eyed at the mention of your father, your mother just places her hand on yours and starts talking about how your brother is travelling around the world as a travel photographer and your sister's new project and how she is proud of all her kids.
"This will always be your house too now" she says as she finishes the last servings in her plate "Whenever you come to mumbai you have to stay here Steve, no hotel nonsense"
Steve looks at the kind woman and nods his head with a grin. Your mother then turns to you
"I know you were scared of bringing a white guy home and trust me I was scared of this day too but your father always assured me how smart you were and you would always chose the right guy. I guess he was right"
She sighs and Steve feels his heart stopping before he grins and looks at you. Your eyes are wide and you keep staring at your Mother before she nods her head towards the bowls on the table and starts to get up to discard her plates for washing, clearly indicating she won't say more about this topic.
You just smile to yourself before looking at Steve and giving his hand a small squeze.
-------------------
You reluctantly go with your sister, shooting Steve a worried look as she insists on catching up. Steve gives you a thumbs up as your sister pushes you inside the door that leads to her room, shooting him a wink. He gives her a grateful smile.
It was when you had gone inside the kitchen, helping your mother put the leftovers in the refrigerator that he had asked your sister for help in getting a moment alone with your mother.
She had looked at him suspiciously before he promised her a signed picture by Natasha herself and your sister was sold.
So here he stood, looking around as your mother shows him your brother's room. You hadn't even tried to ask if you two could share a room. Not a road you wanna go down honestly.
"Its been a while since Tarun was home but don't worry the bed should be comfortable enough, that boy spent weeks choosing the most perfect, comfortable mattress"
Steve nods, looking around the room. The queen sized bed is placed against the wall on the right side of the room, a side table with a table lamp sits besides it. A full length mirror cupboard is besides the larger cupboard against the right wall. The front half of the room and nunerous shelves lined with different pictures of different places around the world. There is a study table with a spare keyboard and some some below the pictures.
"If you need anything just call me" she says smiling at him and moving to leave before Steve stops her
"I umm, I needed to ask you something" he says uncertainly
She gives him a small smile, motioning for him to say it
"I umm I-" he shakes his head, digging into his bag and producing the velvet box he carries everywhere "I wanna marry her"
Your mother's eyes widen as she looks at the ring and then at Steve in shock
"And I need your permission"
That seems to shock her even more "My- My permission?"
He nods his head
"Don't you western kids just decide to get married and then tell the parents?"
Steve shakes his head at her
"Your approval means a lot to Y/n and to me too. If you feel I am not the one for your daughter, If you don't want me to ask her,I won't"
He says solemly
"I love her but I know how important her family, her culture is to her and I would never wanna take that away from her. I know she wants the proper Indian wedding and I would love if you help us organize that"
A lone tear falls down your mother's eye as she moves forward and places a hand on Steve's cheek.
"You are a good boy Steve" she says smiling up at him and he bends down a little so she can place her hand on his head "You have my blessings beta"
Steve lets out a laugh of his own at that
"Thank you aunty I won't disappoint you. I just hope she says yes"
She smiles at him
"She would not have brought you here if she weren't completely sure of you, trust me"
Steve looks at her thankfully
"You take care of her" she says moving to get out of the room "and you can call me Mumma"
A grin takes over Steve's face as he moves to do a happy dance.
"That is if she says yes"
And the curve of his lips flattens as your mother leaves, laughing on her way out.
The Little Big Things (2/4)
Tumblr media
(@ricksanchezdwc) So like we had done not too long ago, me, @hoodoo12 @porkchop-ao3 @rickstexaschick are doing the same prompt cause we all loved the idea. Thanks to @dorklyevil for allowing me to use a line from one of her comics. And I didn't mention it before, but this story references Labyrinth, and it follows the events of this fic As The World Falls Down.
This is part 2. If you haven't read part one then read it here. (Read Part1 Here)
Chapter 2: The Scientist Who Became A King
Here, it was evergreen, and it never rained.
You had never known a time without the tears of God; the rain, which washed the earth clean of its trials, and its yesterdays, welcoming the oncoming morrows ever to come. Though, there was a time, you did without it, and you longed for it, and the places it touched upon; once upon a dream.
“Rick,” you wondered, as you did about many things. “does it rain here?”
“Only during certain seasons. I-I know there is a lake on the west side of this planet, but it's - it's a-a bit far from here. Why d-do you ask?”
“Hmm, I was just wondering.”
“Hohoho,” he chuckled. “as y-you should. Curiosity means a-a desire t-to learn or know about anything, and it isn't - I-I-I don't dislike it. ” He admitted with a wink. “Just in case y-you were wondering.”
You pouted, which made him laugh, a full on belly laugh. The little tease, perhaps the Rick in him couldn't resist.
______________
Side glances, soft smiles, random stories from Citadel, he was in another one of his talkative, happy go lucky moods. Blame it on the scenery, or you telling him an hour or so ago how cute he was, but he was running on happiness. “And th-thats how I-I got this lucky penny.”
Holding your hand out, you giggled. “Can I hold it? Maybe something good will happen.”
Glancing between you and the penny, he placed a quick peck on your cheek and dropped the coin on your palm. With a blush, he replied softly. “F-for extra luck.”
You gave it back, and continued walking, allowing him to wait anxiously, before blowing back a kiss that made him tear up a little. Damn it he was cute. Perhaps, you felt uninhibited, though Zeta-7 had that effect on you a great deal of the time; that or you two really were being affected by the environment. You two walked among enormous flowers for what seemed like hours.
The blood red blossoms drooped heavily from above, their faces turned down towards your tiny forms; their blessings hidden in the wind and its whispers. For a while you couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity. It was as though the world around you was calling for you to return. You wanted to roll around, and tumble down hill, and the flowers gave you the strongest sense to climb them; their perfume thick and sweet, emitting a soft, amber glow. Petals drifted down like leaves falling in autumn. Each time one touched the ground, a soft sound could be heard; like a chord being struck on a harp. A great symphony was all around you two, with no beginning or end. Feelings of deep peace and satisfaction were within you; as well as nostalgia from false memories.
The thing about memories, they were like homemade movies; messy and out of focus, with the select few which were hidden gems, located in the corners of the basement in a random cardboard box; only remembered when stumbled upon. Though, if you closed your eyes, you would be back there, in that place where you had lived a second lifetime. And you'd remember that as charming as it had been, it truly was melancholic; like the rain. You'd remember the days you were almost a princess, and the loneliness of the mountain.
At the very top of the white capped mountains, it would sometimes rain for days, especially on the ones when you were the saddest; perhaps the mountain king had his own sadness too.
It made you wonder, if it was because Zeta-7 had been longing for you, or if he knew you were longing for him. For now, observing him, and seeing him happy, made you hope it really wasn't all that bad for him. If it had been, you would do all you could to make it better.
________________________
The ground was soft, and with every step you took, you'd sink a little into the moss pillows before bouncing back up; a lilting tune encouraging your playfulness. This place had a charm akin to the forest in the middle of spring, whose flowers and trees had spread themselves to enjoy the filtered beams of light. Of course, if you replaced the trees with flowers, and the light with that of bioluminescent pollen, then there wouldn't be much difference. Oh, that opened up a whole other line of questions which you could ask later, but for now you were giddy, and every time you bounced back up, you'd erupt into a fit of giggles. A few times, Zeta-7 had to stop and make sure you didn't hurt yourself, but for the most part, he'd stand back and watch, or take pictures of your amusement. A few times, you caught him wiping at his eyes, but he'd say it was nothing; you knew better of course, but let him be.
Later, there was laughter in his voice when he said, “Y-y-y-y-you enjoying yourself?”
You nodded in between giggles, and when you had enough, you stepped off the moss, and leaned against one of the flowers stems, breathless and tired. My, how the light filtered through the canopy of leaves, the low humidity, the intoxicating scent, and the view made you wistful. “The garden fairies had told me about a place like this once, as well as...” you faltered, suddenly afraid of triggering bad memories.
Though, he picked up where you left off. “A-a place you saw once upon a dream?”
“Yeah. Um, is it okay to talk about it?”
With his back towards you, Rick nodded as he unpacked the contents of his backpack in search for a snack. “If y-you want to.”
Sometimes, his passive responses stopped you from talking any further. You assumed it was a trait he had picked up or learned in order to avoid drawing attention to himself or to stay out of trouble, but it also made you uncomfortable at times. If he wasn't interested, then usually you would avoid the subject, but this time you carried on; even if with reluctance. “We haven't talked much about it since it happened.”
“I-I know.” His voice picking up that endless guilt.
“It's not one of those things that's going to go away,” You sighed. “and to be honest, I haven't gotten over it.”
Everything that had happened, at least the parts you remembered, you didn't want to forget. Well, except for the loneliness; you didn't like that part. In a dream, you had a family, friends, and almost became a queen, but what did you almost lose in order gain all that? Forgetting Rick? Almost losing your life? The lesser of two evils was your current life, but it didn't always feel that way.
You rubbed your arm, suddenly finding your shoes a bit interesting. “Am I supposed to bring it up casually, or what?”
“Do what y-y-you think is right I ugh - I suppose.”
“That's sort of the problem. I don't know what's right anymore” This caught his attention, as he had stopped moving, and soon after began to wring his hands. Damn, you needed to remember to control your tone. You continued, in a gentler tone. “You take me to these dazzling, wonderful places, and we usually go home happy and tired, with a handful of stories to add to our memory jars, and I enjoy that, and what we do. However,” You paused, nibbling your bottom lip in hopes of finding something better to say, but continued on. “there's something we haven't addressed, and that's me, and how what I do affects you. When we flirt with death, and get injured, because I wanted a good photo or something, how come you don't get mad? I mean, you deserve to after you went on a journey that could have been avoided in the first place if I would've listened. And forgive me if I sound shrill, but I almost forgot you. Doesn't that bother you?”
Placing the items back in his pack, and slipping it over his shoulders, he stood there so frighteningly still, you wondered if you had finally crossed the line. Then, he took out the penny he talked about a few hours ago, and gave it a squeeze. “It - it does, but y-you didn't forget me. At least not completely, and I-I-I guess I left a deeper impression then I had pr-previously believed..”
“But if I would have? Don't you see, I'm not prepared for this. We've gone over the other hypothetical, important what not, but not about the incident, at least not in detail. And I think it's about time we do, that way we're both aware of what not to do next time, and how I can avoid making an ass of myself. Don't you agree?”
Turning around, the lines around Zeta-7s eyes deepened, as well as the creases of his forehead, and there was a pensive cloudiness of his usually electric blues. The sweet songs around you had transitioned almost without your notice. Adagio, the melody now reminded you Clair De Lune, and Gymnopédie. “Well, I-I-I-I thought you - I assumed it made you uncomfortable, and that's the last thing that I'd ever want you t-t-to feel. W-w-we can talk if you're - you're ready.”
“If I'm ready? Are you?”
“P-p-possibly.”
“Honestly, I am uncomfortable talking about this,” you admitted, which compelled him to pull you close, rubbing your back in soothing circles. Enveloped in the warmth of the man you loved, and a distance away from everything else which could possibly hurt you, you second guessed on whether it really was a good time to think of it again, but how else would you two get past this? You continued, in that small, girlish voice that pained him. “but it's not because of what happened to me. I couldn't care less if I had gotten hurt, but if it meant hurting you, and if what I've put you through has, then I wish I hadn't been so careless. I thought I had it all together, and knew what I was doing, but all I seem to do is give you trouble. God, I'm such idiot.”
“Shh,” he cooed, brushing away a lock of hair. “th-thats not true. Y-you're thoughtful, and - and perceptive, and s-s-so clever.”
“What have I ever done that's so clever?”
Leaning forward until your foreheads touched, he confessed. “Y-y-y-y-you got me to - to loosen up and try new things, and showed me its okay to get e-emotional. Why, y-you even brought me t-t-to the moon without ever leaving the ground.”
“What do you mean?”
“I-I-I have wanted many things during my life,” he admitted, pulling back enough to study you. “but none of them have been as - as wonderful as you. And I've - you know that I've traveled across the universe, but it's usually been alone
I'm - I-I-I don't want to be alone anymore. Having you around has inspired me t-t-to get back in touch with my surroundings a-and the world, but I - you're m-my world. Gosh,” he blushed as he caressed your cheek, his thumb brushing away fresh tears. “you're - you really are more beautiful than the night and stars combined, and y-y-you don't even know it. Y-you're my satellite, m-m-mi Luna, and it takes a strong women to put up with me. You're my treasure, and I'd - I'd do anything t-t-to protect you. That's why I-I-I-I chose t-to do it, to go and find you. We're all w-we got, and despite what I thought might of - of happened, I'm s-s-so happy I found you, and that you're safe. W-w-with me.”
“What did you think would happen?”
With serious, but tender eyes, Zeta-7 answered. “Th-that you would have forgotten me completely, and never woken up.”
“And?”
He cleared his throat in the manner he did from time to time, trying to piece together the right words that wouldn't upset you. In a voice above a whisper, he finished. “And p-p-p-passed away.”
“Oh.”
“Th-that blue moss did a-a number on you, but there doesn't seem to be any residual side effects. I'm glad a-about that.”
“What if I would've had brain damage? What then?”
Jokingly, he answered. “Hmm, then I guess I-I would've gone back and used Mr. Needfuls gift.”
“You…..you would've done that for me? No, that's outrageous. If you did that, then you wouldn't have been able to do your science stuff.”
With a shrug, he softened. “Th-that's true, but we would have had other stuff w-we could do, and I-I-I still would love you. Diminished intelligence d-doesn't affect happiness. On the contrary, we'd only focus on - on what truly matters. That, and I'd have the joy t-to learn it all over again.”
“Rick, I love it when you get cheesy, but you couldn't mean all that.”
“I-I-I do, but it's okay if you don't believe it. I'll - I'll prove it, but for now let's not - not think about it too hard. Everything bad th-that happened, we'll - we'll talk about it and g-get through it. T-t-together.”
“So, I can ask whatever I want?”
“Y-y-yes, wherever, whenever.”
You knew he meant it to sound sweet, but it took a moment for it to sink in what he actually said, and you couldn't help it when you giggled. “Rick, I'm pretty sure that's the title of a Shakira song.”
“Hohoho, r-really? Was she on - on American idol?”
His obliviousness only made it worse. How cute. You really were lucky to have him, this patient dork of a man. “No, but nevermind that. I'm glad I still have you too.”
“I'm glad y-you're still as adorable and lovely as - as ever.”
Giving him a playful shove, despite the heat in your cheeks, you hid your face in the scratchy fabric of his linen shirt,. “Rick, how can you say stuff like that with a straight face?”
In his matter of fact way, he answered. “B-because I mean it.”
This man really would one day kill you with kindness, and this time it was your vines which stretched out, wrapping themselves on his arm, and it's flowers kissing wherever they could touch; his neck, cheeks, eyes, forehead, and mouth. It was amusing to watch him laugh and squirm, which encouraged his vines to do the same to you, but you two pulled back a little, and they returned to place, and behaved; at least for the moment.
________________
Rick decided to call the silly, cheeky, little vines from your matching bracelets Ioculus vines, which meant funny if you heard him correctly. Anyway, they were mischievous, and had minds of their own; or so you said, because you didn't want to admit how fun it was to tease Rick. Why, he might have been in the middle of an explanation, and they'd by climbing up his arm, and across his back, but he'd only squirm and continue. Though, the one time your Ioculus managed to kiss the back of his neck, he jumped back so violently, you'd swear he had seen a ghost. And watching him lightly scold the Ioculus as though they were children, then apologize for getting annoyed at them, not only made you laugh wholeheartedly, but it made you imagine him as a father, and what it would be like if he had to be a disciplinarian.
Perhaps it was but your girlish dream at work, but you could see him playing with two or three kids, telling them stories, showing them the magic of science. If they misbehaved, he'd take them aside, and explain why they might be getting disciplined, but never out of anger, and always reassure them that it was all out of love, and that he'd always care for them. And if you were honest with yourself, you pictured yourself sitting on his lap, after they had gone to bed, listening to how his day was, and how much he missed you. And you'd tell him….. Oh, but those were just thoughts; and you imagined a lot of things.
You wondered if the ioculus worked like mood rings and acted upon your feelings for each other. Did they know what the heart truly wanted? Because, as long as the two of you were close, the vines along your wrists seemed to interact with one another, but when Zeta-7 distanced himself, the blooms growth was stunted, and withered a little. And after a while, whether it had to do with the sensory overload, or your bending the forces according to your will, you were drained. “Rick, is it okay to rest for a while?”
“Of - of course.”
Leading you by the hand, he took a moment to spread out a blanket and you proceeded by laying beside him, feeling more worn out then you had anticipated. “Ughhh, I'm so tired. Honestly, when we get home, I might just go straight to bed.”
“Do y-y-you want to go home now?”
“No, I’ll be fine if I rest for a while.”
“Are you hungry? D-do you want a snack? I-I have fruit, sandwiches, and I-I even brought granola.”
“Maybe later.” you yawned. “Come here, I want to use your chest as a pillow.”
Carefully, he laid back, making a little old man sound as he settled himself. With your head resting above his heart, you kept quiet for a little while, listening to his heartbeat, the plants around you, and the Ioculus interact. When they did this, there was a sense of completeness, and you'd look at Zeta-7 and wonder how you could adore him so much. The way he wrinkled his nose, his ever changing expressions, soft skin, his sweetness, his everything; you adored it all. Aware of how vulnerable you've become with him, you just want to melt into him, and give him everything; anything that would make him happy. “Rick?”
“Yeah?”
Tentatively, you combed his hair with your fingers, gauging his response as you traced shapes lazily along his scalp. “Are you happy?”
He chuckled, draping an arm over you, answering softly. “When I-I'm with you I am.”
“Flirt. What about your hair, who cuts it?”
“I-I do. Why,” he tensed. “sh-should I change it?”
Brushing his bangs away from his forehead, you pressed a kiss on his brow. “No, I like it this way. It's part of your charm. I guess I was just curious, because it's not even in the back.”
“Oh that, well it's - it's not always easy t-to reach it.”
“Do you mind if I help you next time? I wouldn't want you to go out, not looking your sharpest.”
“I - I don't mind.”
“You'd probably mind if I kissed whatever I could reach. Especially right here.” you softened, pressing a light kiss on his neck which made his heart beat faster.
“I - I do mind that, but it's - I-I-I'm sure you'll probably just tease a-a-a little.”
“You're right, but I might surprise you. Maybe, I won't try anything and I'll just cut your hair. You'll just have to wait and see. Though, this isn't what I meant to talk about.”
“I ugh - I-I didn't think so. What's on y-your mind? You can tell me, if y-you want.”
Snuggling yourself closer, you wondered.“When you were in my dream, you knew about me, but I knew little to nothing about you. How did you become the mountain king? I mean, you don't seem like the type to rule or lord over anyone. So, how did that happen?”
“Oh, it's - are y-y-you sure you want to hear it?”
“I do.”
Caressing your hair, he sighed. “I-I will admit, that it - it wasn't as exciting as y-you think it was, but if y-y-you are sure, then I'll tell it.”
“I am, but tell me just the good parts. Oh, and the parts with me in it. ”
His blue eyes shone with amusement, as he kissed your temple. “O-o-okay just th-the good parts then."
Drabble: post-curse Akito asks Shigure one day why exactly he loves her, he tells her about the dream and a fight breaks out with Akito thinking he doesn't love her for who she is (and leaves him?) (PLS GIVE ME AN ANGSTY BREAKING DOWN OF THIS SHIP, PLS!)
Um, bye I love this.
I would imagine that after this little spat Shigure would go complain to Hatori. And Akito…would go and see Tohru.
This little idea even gave me some inspiration for a prompt I got a week or so ago and didn’t know how to approach; it may very well end up a little sequel to this, but who knows. (/ω\)
“Shigure.”
There was a stillness to his name as she spoke it; her voice soft and monotonous yet still managing to   sound strong, and assertive. Just as it always had.
“Hm?” The (former) mutt hummed in acknowledgement, his eyes still fixed on the newspaper spread out in his lap, contently continuing to read away at an article regarding a string of burglaries plaguing some nearby neighborhoods.
This is what the author would refer to as absolute bliss; not the burglaries, no, but THIS. Spending a calm Sunday afternoon free of deadlines, free of Akito’s various appointments and commitments, free to spend the Sunday with only each other. A comfortable beat of silent passed them as Shigure turned the large, printed page of his paper, careful not to disturb Akito as she remained nuzzled into his shoulder. She clung to him similar to that of a child, an ownership not of superiority but love and a want for a certain closeness. Once upon a time, that is how she’d clung to them all; draping herself over the shoulders of Hatori or Hatsuharu, or Kureno in a lazy, possessive embrace. The physicality of it all was a part of her that still remained, but now, only for HIM. The Head tugged at the sleeve of his yukata, tightening her grip on it with a pinching curl of her fingers. At this the dog’s eyes peered over the frames of his glasses that slid a smidgen down his nose, and over at his God who continued to stare at the glossy, hardwood floor.
Then, she spoke again.
“Why do you love me?”
Upon first wind it sounded no more than a self depreciative plea in search for an answer he had most certainly given her before; assured her before that she was GOOD. That he could never BLAME her.
Cool, grey eyes flicked back to printed black and white words. “..Because you ask such silly questions.” He didn’t answer her immediately, his voice flat despite the corner of his mouth tugging up just the slightest in something of a self-amused smirk.
“No,” Akito pressed, “…What is it about me that is so precious to you?” She tried to rephrase her question, specify and indicate what she REALLY wanted to know: not search for validation in his words like she had in the past, but truth. To find an unwarranted love through willing and genuine affection—it was a treasure she’d constantly found herself thinking back to since the day she let her Zodiac go. Shigure had showered her with adoration since the day she was born, but those days were long gone. Yet, here he was. Still with her and by her side just as he’d always promised. She felt it similar to that of her bird that left her long ago, long before any of the others. He stayed, too. Because he was supposed to. Because he pitied her. Why was Shigure any different? What was it that compelled him to stay? Akito believed it was love; the new love she’d sought to find. But a part of her really didn’t know.
She was looking at him now, he could FEEL it. And so the dog folded his paper up and set it down in his lap, turning to face the love he’d worked so /hard/ to have here in front of him. “..And where is all this coming from?” He asked; an unsuspecting ring to his words.
She didn’t answer, she wouldn’t. Her REASONING didn’t matter. It was his answer that mattered. A soft sigh escaped him, a pleasant smile stretching onto his face. “Must I recite to you a lament of long ago~?” His question once again went without an answer, the God continuing to eye him with an impatience for his GAMES.
Shigure’s gaze on her softened, a smile falling onto his face like a GENTLE and UNDERSTANDING drop of rain. She didn’t want to hear what he’d told her, she wanted to hear what he would tell her now. Shigure knew this, and he would oblige.
“From the moment you were born I felt something inside me…a PASSION unlike anything I had ever felt before; an overwhelming consumption of infatuation and heartbreak toxically stirring inside me.  We were born to be with you, Akito. But I didn’t feel like I was born to live bound with twelve others. I was born to be with you, and you alone.  I knew…I had to have you. I knew my purpose was different, I wasn’t born to be with you, Akito. I was born to love you. And I’ve never stopped feeling that devotion to you.”
Akito continued to study him, the focus in her gaze faltering for just a fleeting breath of a second. He had TOUCHED her but even now, she struggled to SEE him and UNDERSTAND who he was beyond the surface. It was infuriating.
“And that’s all?”
Her words hung in the air, taking him aback. That’s all? For him, that was everything. His whole world, his goal, his aspiration, his sweet BLISS——was it still not enough for her? “What are you saying?” His question came out more like a cold, unfeeling statement.
“I’m saying you’re not different. You loved just as you were supposed to. When I was God your words were all I wanted to hear. The curse has lifted, and I’ve let you all GO.” There remained a shred of pain in the admittance as she uttered it out loud. “I am no longer your being to be WORSHIPPED.”
“Yet my feelings remain the same.” Shigure argued coldly, CERTAIN they were convincing of his point. He’d never stopped loving her with such an intensity——surely that proved it to be the most genuine emotion for her he could muster.
She thrashed back and away from him now, releasing his arm from her grasp like she were throwing him AWAY. Akito was beginning to lose her temper. Her heart had remained stubborn, her fuse still short. Why couldn’t he see what he was saying to her!? Why couldn’t he SEE that’s what she was TALKING about? If his feelings for her surpassed the crumbling of her curse…she was still his God and that is all she would ever be. Did he not UNDERSTAND this?
“No. You don’t get it!” Akito stood herself up in what seemed like one angry, fluid movement. Shigure drew back, defensively tensing up. Was he afraid she would STRIKE him? He’d seen enough to warrant the caution.
“Akito–” His voice raised to match her volume, REACHING to interject, open a window to calm her.
“Your love is for God. Don’t you see? You’ve only ever loved who you were SUPPOSED to. Everyone else has let that fall far behind them. They..they’ve begun to try and see me with their own, unbiased eyes. Yet you can’t.” She’d been thinking of that day; where Tohru Honda—whom she had despised and feared for so long, opened her heart and saw God as nothing more than a frightened, lonely woman who NEEDED a love outside of what had been promised to her. Tohru Honda had shown her that people WILL love her—CAN love her outside of a cursed, designated fate. So why was it that the man who claimed to love her with such a pure and genuine affinity only appeared to do so by design?
Akito realized this; that Tohru had come to her under no obligation but out of the love and kindness of her own heart, but Shigure——Shigure had deceived her for so long with the lies he’d strung together out of a false, cursed thread. She wanted to believe—no, she wanted to TRUST that her paranoia was wrong. That maybe Shigure had changed along with the others. That he could live his life separately with his newfound freedom. But this loyal dog preferred to stay CAGED.
He could hardly believe what he was hearing. Not because her words were blasphemous…but because they WEREN’T. He’d stood up so quickly he felt lightheaded. Shigure’s heart began to race, his stomach tying itself into a SICK knot. “Akito!” The dog reached out and gripped her wrist; a fleeting attempt to gain SOME kind of control over what was dangerously spiraling out. The outreach was akin to that of a PLEA.
“Don’t touch me!” Akito violently ripped her hand away, her voice cracked with emotion and her eyes beginning to sting with welled up tears. It was scary and heartbreaking—she’d felt so secure in his words even after she lost her Zodiac. Especially after she lost her Zodiac. He was supposed to be the love she’d found in a world untouched by their cursed blood. If she could achieve just that, then maybe—MAYBE she could truly understand the freedom her Zodiac had been granted.
No more than ten minutes ago he had her with him in their oblivious, peaceful bubble. But now; he was losing her. Shigure couldn’t decide which was worse: watching his reality shatter in front of him, or realizing the apparent possibility that it was never real to begin with. She looked so broken, sniffling and trembling before him. He wanted to hold her. But why? Because he was bound to feel that way? Or did he truly, in his damaged heart, love Akito as a human being he could differentiate from his god?
Their curse had long since broken, yet he remained the most cursed of them all.
