Miles 42 is scared of thunder, always has been, always will be, he has no "justifiable reason" for the deep-seated fear, but he is always a trembling mess during thunderstorms.

this kid who can, will, an dprobably has killed a man or even many men, definitely needs someone to hold his hand during thunderstorms.

I make it angsty below the cut, nothing bad, but this could either be a kinda cute hc, or a really sad one, though there is some comfort at the very end

it was better when he was a kid, cause he could crawl into his mom and dads bed at night, and they would hold him through it, his dad promising nothing would ever hurt him on his watch. then his dad died, and thunder became a whole lot worse, cause it could hurt him now, his dad wasn't there to protect him, he had to be the man of the house now and couldn't go crawling to his mom or his uncle anymore, he had to be strong.

he pushes himself to just ignore it, to shove it all down, to not feel the utter terror that fills him every time the thunder rumbles so loud it feels like his bones are rattling. he gets hurt worse and more often on jobs with Aaron during storms, cause he jumps and flinches and paused whenever it strikes, opening himself up to be hit. over time, childish shame becomes true shame and he doesn't let anyone near him during storms, cause he can't be seen as weak.

he used to sit with his mom in the living room, when she was home, or hang out in his uncles apartment (though he'd pretend that he wasn't scared), but he felt more an more embarrassed as time passed. when he was still staying with ganke (and/or before ganke died, cause I'm all for ganke to be his canon event, cause I hate myself or something) they would stay in the same bunk together and ganke would let him use his good headphones so it wouldn't be so loud, and he'd try and help his (more than?) friend cope, to little avail; it typically ended in Miles just sobbing into his chest, begging him to make it stop. but eventually he gives up on seeking comfort and will just push himself until he breaks down somewhere, typically his empty room or an alley way.

(now for mild comfort)

things change when Miles 1610 and his dad come into the picture. Miles 1610 is also afraid of thunder, just not to the same extent (cause it wasn't worsened by the death of his dad, cause for Miles 42, the fear of thunder is sorta a cover for a lot of other big feelings he can't even begin to process, alongside genuine fear) and as the two get close, Miles 1610 helps Miles 42 feel safe to express his fear.

Miles 1610 picks up on it immedietly, being much more intune and analytical, let alone with his spidey senses, he notices every ounce of anxiety dripping off of his twin during their first storm together, so he immediately fesses up his own fear, and how the whole "earthquakes" collider, peter parker dying, situation made his fear of thunder a lot worse. he doesn't expect Miles 42 to open up per say, but he learned airing out his own weaknesses makes his brother more comfortable letting his guard down, cause Miles 1610 feels like less of a threat. he offers a hand when the heart of the storm is over them, and the thunder is so loud it shakes the house a little, but is kinda surprised when MIles 42 latches onto his middle, letting him drape an arm over his back, but he's alright with it, its kinda nice (if not absolutely heartbreaking, cause the kid is shaking and Miles is pretty sure he's crying and he feels so bad). they stay like that all night, well after the storms past, until Miles 42's shaken himself to sleep and Miles 1610 drags him to bed, taking his turn as the "big brother", making sure that his twin could sleep the night feeling safe and secure with him.

eventually they'll talk more about, "their" dad comes up, and Miles 1610 tells him he's always welcome to come over whenever he's nervous (though they dance around that word) and in time, its Jeff's side that both boys are diving into (cause Miles 1610 only braves through a storm when his brothers in need, otherwise he too just wants to be held and protected). Miles 42 is reluctant at first, cause being around Jeff's still hard, but one storm hits him hard enough to just crumble any resistance he had to the idea in seconds, maybe its a bad storm, maybe it was a bad day, but he knows he's begging Miles to bring him to his dimension and wasting no time to rush to "his" dad. jeff being the good dad he is, doesn't ask a single question, just settles his boys on the couch with him and rio and they camp out there for a good while, doing whatever it takes to distract from the storm outside.

finally got some time to finish these guys up! which is sort of ironic considering I started these because I wanted to draw Malleus with a Dragapult, and then I just didn't for a million years!

Malleus has the aforementioned Dragapult, except it's a super special non-canon color Dragapult (like an anime-only form that you could get in-game exclusively through some limited-time event where you have to show up in-person at a specific location in Japan) (it has some wacky overpowered exclusive move/form and the OT is listed as Malleus) (so like that kind of ridiculous specialness) (Leona is extremely salty about this). also hoards and hoards of Dreepy. Dreepy LOVE Malleus. they take naps on his horns inbetween begging him to throw them across the island at mach speeds.

Lilia has a Drampa and a bunch of Woobat that he hasn't actually caught, they just follow him around in swarms because they sense a kinship with him. (also breaking my own rule again to say that he had a Mawile in the past, because...I just really wanted to give him a Mawile...)

Sebek has Sandile for obvious reasons, and also a Pikachu that bullies him relentlessly. :(

Silver has a shiny Corvisquire; I really went back-and-forth on also giving him an Aegislash, but...hm. those pokedex entries though. he can stick with just one for now.

(I hadn't planned on the shiny for him, but after I'd decided on the Corvisquire line and was looking it up for reference, I realized that shiny Rookidee is gold and then turns silver when it evolves and I lost my entire goddamn mind)

with my nakba posts, here's some website recommendations if you want to learn on the history of specific depopulated palestinian areas:

palestine remembered is probably the most famous and comprehensive website with full documentations of former locations and depopulated villages. it also lists information on palestinian refugee camps, guestbooks, and the ability to submit pictures/info if you know of any. information on each village varies.

zochrot is an organization dedicated to teaching both palestinians and israelis about the 1948 nakba (which is not covered well if at all in israeli schools, as you can probably imagine), which includes documenting information on villages and even an app. information on each village varies.

the interactive encyclopedia for the palestinian question's places page has some detailed histories and a map as well, but doesn't go into the detail of the last two sites, and doesn't have pictures or sources.

some villages also have their own websites, and many of them are also in english (for example, the one i linked for kafr bir'im). honestly just look up (village name) + website and if it's there you'll find it.

wikipedia also has surprisingly comprehensive coverage of the villages, the articles include a little more of the "war" background than the other websites do. (and of course since it's wikipedia you can find further sources on there.)

all that remains: the palestinian villages occupied and depopulated by israel in 1948 is a famous book by palestinian historian walid khalidi which gives a detailed account of what became of 400 different depopulated palestinian villages. it was released in 1992, so it's not current, but many of the things he wrote still hold. a lot of the above links use this book as a source.

I've received asks on the topic a few times so I think I'd like to address the subject as clearly as I can

Okay, so like. You're on vacation, right? And you decide you want to go swimming. And you could go to a pool, or a lake, or the ocean, or the river. Wherever you want. And you see on the map that there's this one place called The Alligator Hole.

So you go there, and there's a sign on the shore that says "WARNING: ALLIGATORS", right? And you decide to go in. And when you get there, there's alligators. So you get out!

But then you go back in, with a stick, and you start hitting the alligators.

Because you don't want alligators where you're swimming!

And the impulse is understandable, because lots of people don't like swimming with alligators. Alligators are scary. Being in the water with alligators can be very stressful and damaging for people who aren't prepared to deal with alligators.

But at the same time, you must understand- there will probably always *be* alligators. Hitting a few with a stick probably won't eradicate them from the planet. There are SO MANY alligators! All over the world! And the vast majority of them will never ever hurt any swimmers!

And at the end of the day, nobody pushed you into The Alligator Hole, right? You saw a place literally called The Alligator Hole and decided that you wanted to go in there, and then you made life miserable for all the alligators.

Sure, there are places you like to swim where alligators probably shouldn't be- like suddenly, in your bathtub, uninvited and unwelcome, in the middle of the night- but alligators have to go *somewhere*, you know?

So if there are going to be alligators, no matter what, and we don't want to be surprised by them, then isn't it nice that we have places like The Alligator Hole

“I’m a twin”, Damian said one night. He could feel the narrowed eyes of his family drilling holes on his back in disbelief. Not that he could blame them. Damian had never so much as implied being raised with a companion, much less a sibling.

“I had a brother”. Damian paused to recollect himself. He had not said his brother’s name out loud in over 8 years.

“His name was… Danyal”. Damian hated the way his voice wavered, but he could not help it. Danyal was everything to him, his other half. Their heart beat as one and when one heart stopped beating, the other one died with it. At least until his family put his heart on metaphorical life support without ever realizing.

“Where is he now?” His father asked, voice filled with knowing grief and a hint of betrayal. It had in fact been 6 years since Damian first showed up on his doorstep.

“Up there”. All eyes shifted towards the specific star he was pointing to. “Right before he died, he promised me he’d guide me from the stars. Unfortunately, the stars are not visible in Gotham, so my brother is unable to be of much help unless I leave the city.”

“Your brother is Polaris, the North Star?” Tim questioned warily, most likely in attempts to not offend him. Damian was aware of how stupid it sounded, but Danyal had promised, and his brother never broke his promises.

“Yes. Danyal is with the stars now, just as he always wanted”
