So fun fact: I actually started actually making weekly children of ullyca pages back in 2021, until I realized I had no idea what I was doing and went on hiatus for about a year to write more of the script and learn how to make somewhat interesting backgrounds and things like that.

My art's improved a LOT in the past two years and I wanted to kind of look back and see how it's evolved, so I took a handful of pages that I think have changed a lot (for the better of course):

Relatively simple page, but in the first one it really shows that Ramedin and Ullyca were kinda just concepts who didn't have fully cemented designs yet. I also changed Ramedin's color to make it a sharper contrast to Ullyca's.

The newer page is a lot more expressive and exaggerated which is an advantage of the medium I neglected to use at first. I also stopped using plain black for Umbra and opted for a very very dark shade of purple after my irl artist friends knocked some sense into me. (it took me longer to change that than I care to admit). I also added stuff to the background to make it less like the characters were floating in space, I used to sort of wing it when it came to environments which led to...problems.

You can tell that even though I wanted to be edgy and write about assassins I wasn't at all comfortable drawing dead bodies which is how we got that smudge that's supposed to be Hernan. Also that I didn't know how to draw bloodstains and just opted for using the mad splashes brush and going crazy. I still used that brush as a crutch in several of the new pages but eased out of it as time went on. As for the expressions... I was weirdly obsessed with subtlety back then, which is why I didn't make Umbra pull back and bristle like I did in the new pages. This is a very important moment though and it was important to get the emotions of the scene across. Regardless I think the lighting in the old page is fairly decent even if the background is far too bright.

(Side note: the scratch on Umbra's neck used to be a plot relevant thing, but I scrapped it because I couldn't figure out how to use it.)

Not much to say about this one, I just learned how to draw trees better. Also the buildings in cou used to be normal, it was during my hiatus that I got the idea to merge natural and urban landscapes, not just because it looked cool but also in order to add to the theme of wilderess vs. civilization.

Again, more interesting room design for Umbra. Now it looks like an actual teenager's room. Instead of a guest room. The movement here is more dynamic as well since I got better at having the characters interact with their environment.
