First date tip: It's never a bad idea to use poetry to set the mood!
That's why you should immediately pull out your copy of Catullus, start reading Attis, and try to gauge your date's reaction.

Eagle of the Sea Mountain, digital study, 2022, Vincent Frano
A portrait study for one of the large banners from SPIRITS WE ARE. Eagle of the Sea Mountain represents one of the spirits/persons in our system. Each of these portraits was created to invoke a mythic feeling. We represent ourselves by referencing realistic and symbolic imagery which relates to our true selves in seen and unseen ways.
The majority of our artwork holds several layers of symbolism in the colors, glyphs, and imagery. In this way we are able to tell a highly detailed story using simple forms and flat colors. Below is a photo of the painted banners hanging at Anchor House of Artists in Northampton, MA. These banners are on view thru the end of Sept 2023.

Hail, Lord Attis, Cybele’s slain consort! We mourn your broken body, and eagerly await your resurrection. Grant us plentiful renewal and an enduring bounty, O Evergreen God. Hail, Lord Attis, son of the Magna Mater.
It was the duty of the dendrophori to cut down a pine tree in the woods and bear it with due pomp to the temple of Cybele. The perennial pine was a natural embodiment of Attis, the spirit of vegetation. According to legend, it was under a pine tree that he had mutilated himself and died. He had himself been transmuted into a pine tree and carried in this form into the cave of Cybele where the goddess mothered her dead lover; hence the pine tree borne by the dendrophori into the temple of Cybele was regarded as the corpse of Attis dead and treated with divine honors.

Thinking about the parallels between the stories of the creation of Agdistis and the creation of Attis. The Great Goddess is injured by a traumatic event; a shard of Her breaks off, is incubated by the earth, is born as another entity, Agdistis. That entity is then injured by a traumatic event; a shard of them breaks off, is incubated by the water, is born as another entity, Attis.

Belenus, Cybele, and Attis: Echoes of their Cults through the Centuries by Marjeta Šašel Kos
„There are two interesting cases of the worship of Roman period deities in the north-eastern Italian and Pannonian regions, which in one way or another seem to have survived through the early medieval to modern times. The first is the cult of Belenus, the well-known Celtic and most notably Norican and Aquileian god. The second case is that of Cybele and Attis, the so-called eastern deities, whose cult became highly influential in the mentioned areas – as well as elsewhere – in the second and third centuries AD. Interestingly, a deity called “holy Belin” was documented in the second half of the 19th century in the area of Tolmin in Slovenia (the hinterland of Aquileia), as a traditional folk belief. In Pannonia, traces of the cult of Cybele and Attis seem to have survived from antiquity in Prekmurje and Porabje (Slovenia, Hungary), reflected in the unusual and still existing custom of the “wedding with a pine-tree”.”
