There are so many Dick, Bruce, or Tim kills the Joker fics on AO3, meanwhile Barbara was the one talking about how The Joker should be the exception to the No Kill Rule years before Red Hood Jason even existed.

DC Comics JewShowdown round 1.5 - Questionable Jews matches part 1/2
Tumblr media
So I finally got my Wi-Fi back! But just before we move on to round 2, I was talking to my brother who got annoyed because his favorite Jewish DC character, Phantom Stranger, didn't make the cut for the tournament, and one of my online friends pointed out Bette Kane was also missing, and I decided to give them both justice. In these two special matches, 2 questionable Jewish characters who got past round 1 will go against those I forgot to add/my brother convinced me to add, who are also pretty questionable as Jews. What do questionable Jewish characters mean? Glad you asked! It means those whose presence in the second round doesn't exactly sit right with me and might rig the poll because of unjust reasons (I know this is weird, but it's my tournament so let me be).
So Babs from DCSHG (Only ever acknowledged as Jewish in a Hanukkah post from the official DCSHG account) is going to have to beat Bette Kane (Jewish by association with Kate and Jacob Kane) in order to participate in the second round of the tournament, and Zatanna from DC Bombshells (Jewish as much as Miri Marvel, but I felt she kind of robbed the first round victory from a character who's Jewishness is much more impactful to her story just because it's Zatanna) will go up against The Phantom Stranger (never explicitly stated as Jewish I think, but is basically the wandering Jew stereotype and has a Jewish name). If the added-on characters win, they'll take the previous characters' place in the tournament, and if not we'll move on as planned.
Personally, I think Bette deserves this round's win but make your choice.

I never liked the way Dick Grayson treated Barbara Gordon when she was Batgirl and he was Robin. Every instance of him calling her “just a girl” or not taking her seriously angers me because she so desperately wanted to be taken seriously and prove that she could be Batgirl, only for a younger teenage boy to tell her A GROWN WOMAN these things. And people think it’s cute that “boy is mean to girl because he actually likes her” without seeing how much Barbara would have really hated that. And it is not that it is out of character for Dick to do that because of how he handled his relationship with Koriand’r later on. Batgirl and Robin’s time is so incredibly warped and as times goes on it’s either made cutesy or is seen as the good old times while sweeping the rest of it under the rug which is so unfair to Barbara Gordon. There’s also all the instances when Barbara is Oracle and Dick calls her Batgirl. Barbara a character who wanted respect both as Batgirl and Oracle and it saddens me that she wasn’t always called what she wanted to be called. Even in BoP when she gives her dialogue about how the batboys live in the past and she moved on to live a life that is fulfilling, Dick still is shown to know best. The boy who called her silly and called her just a girl knows her more than she knows herself. It angers me. And it angers me that people will turn around and try to justify it.
While it is true that initially, Barbara was closer to Bruce's age when she was first introduced, it was retconned sometime ago for her to be closer to Dick's age probably for the sole reason to form a romantic bond between the two.
I assume some writers meant to push some type of nostalgia between Dick and Barbara when he calls her Batgirl the same way Barbara can sometimes call him Boy Wonder. Regardless, that should be left as more of a nostalgic nickname between the two and not serious forms of addressing each other—at least, now that they've both been well into their adult years since the 80s (and a bit earlier for Barbara depending on what comic run you're pulling from).
I agree that characters like Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian and Cass aren't allowed to mature past their lives as kids/teenagers. Writers of DC LOVE keeping these poor characters stuck with their pasts. Its just overused and annoying at this point. I understand that some do it for every new generation of fans but let me just say, with the internet that's really not necessary. Stop assuming your audience has brains 2/3 sedimentary. If other forms of graphic novels (such as manga) can write compelling stories without having to retell the characters past in a 'fun new and exciting way' than so can comics.
As for Barbara, she deserves to be a part of the "Batfamily" but more importantly she deserves to be acknowledged as the leader of the BoP and treated so that the BoP team is her true priority. Oracle shouldn't be strictly attached to the Batfamily to be important. Barbara is so much more than that.

Duke: …So, is Two-Face like, B’s ex or something?
Steph: I think it’s more of a situationship? They still seem to have some feelings going on there.
Jason: Yeah right, and get accused of cheating on Selina? I think not. They’ve been dating for as long as I can remember.
Dick: That’s…strange, cause I’m pretty sure he and Clark are married. Big Blue gave him a ring and everything.
Damian: A Kryptonite ring. One that Father keeps in a lead lined safe with the rest of the alien’s bane. Besides, everyone knows Mother’s laid her claim to him already. Only a fool would interfere with such a union.
Cass: Talia and Bruce are about as divorced as two people can be.
Tim: No, you guys are all missing the point. If we want Bruce to have a partner, we need to pick the most profitable option for us. [ pulling up a PowerPoint ] Hear. Me. Out.
—-Later, At the Watchtower-—
Oliver: Bats, why are your kids inviting me over for dinner?

Cass and Jason dynamic, but because their morals are so conflicting they pretend not to know each other’s secret identites for the family’s sake
Harper: How can you just talk to Jason when you beat the shit out of him just last night?
Cass: What do you mean?
Harper: C’mon, Cass! You literally broke his helmet!
Cass: No, I broke Red Hood’s helmet.
Harper:
Cass:
Jason: Mornin’. Y’all doing alright?
Cass: Good morning, Jay.
Harper: I-
Harper: Forget it. I’d rather not ask.
Or even them in the batcave getting ready for patrol:
Jason: See you later, Cass.
Cass: Later.
Cass: [Looks away and puts her Batgirl mask]
Jason: [Puts his helmet on and turns to face her]
Cass: Red Hood.
Jason: Batgirl.

Batfamily Chronological Reading List
Here it is, a massive list of Batfamily comics all sorted by issue release date so you can read them in the order they were originally intended to be read in, or easily reference back to what happened when. Do you want to know what Dick was up to during A Death in the Family? Need to know if Cass was around yet when Steph had her baby for your fan fic? Just a completion-ist with too much time on your hands like me? Then this is the list for you!
About six months ago I was trying to read my way through some old comics and getting insanely frustrated trying to figure out the order they went in. There are lots of reading lists online, but none of them gave me what I truly wanted: the order of individual issues rather than comic runs or collections. I also couldn't find any that featured all of the Batkids. So I took all of the reading lists I was using, found the On-Sale-Date for each of the issues mentioned, found a few other lists to fill in some gaps, and complied them into chronological order.
This list features what I consider to be the main 8 Batfamily members: Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Damian Wayne, and Duke Thomas. It is by no means every appearance of these characters, but it is hopefully all of the important ones and then some. By no means do I suggest reading all of these (unless you're slightly insane like me), it's more of a reference guide than a read list.
Some Disclaimers:
This is still a work in progress. You'll notice that the first third of the list is much more detailed than the more recent entries. That's because I haven't read them yet. As of now I've only reached Batgirl 2000 #15, but will continue updating as I go through (I'm hoping to finish sometime within the next 12 months).
This is not a Batman list. I have included some issues about Bruce that I feel are important to the overall story, but if I were to include all of his important issues it would make the list unusable. You should still be able to follow his character arcs through his role in the comics listed here.
I needed to cut off somewhere, so anything released after December 31, 2023 was not included. I may go back and change this later, but not any time soon.
I do not want to discredit any of the Batfamily members not included here (ie Kate, Helena, Jean Paul). They are all important to Bruce and Gotham in their own way, but again I needed to cut it off somewhere or I never would have found an end.
For any edits you wish to suggest, please do so through this form. Any suggestions given not through this form will not be considered, and as it says in the form, I also will not consider any that don't have an explanation.
Finally I need to say thank you and give credit to the people who's reading lists I used to create this:
cazzam - New and Improved Cassandra Cain Reading Guide Comic Book Herald - I used both their Complete Robin and Complete Batgirl Read Order Lists. The Comic Book Treasury - I used both their Robin Reading Order and their Duke Thomas Reading Order Comic Book Wire - The Signal Reading Order Daily Jason Todd - Jason Todd's Reading List Stephanie Brown Wiki Chronology Page
The Unoffical Guide to the DC Universe was also an incredible help with sorting out timelines, and all of my On-Sale-Date information comes from Grand Comics Database (GCD).
I hope you guys enjoy and find this useful! I'm happy to answer any questions, and if something isn't clear feel free to let me know!

Stephanie, clearly upset: I just spent $30 at the grocery store and all I got was eggs, mayonnaise, fruit, and pop.
Tim: Oh so prices have gone down, that’s good.
Stephanie: …. I really hate you sometimes, Tim. Really hate you.
Tim: Isn’t $30 for all that cheap?
Stephanie, calling Jason: I need an immediate extraction I’m about to kill Tim.
Jason: … And you need the extraction, why?
