A Thought on Hu's Secret
Throughout the past couple of months, I've been rewatching DRDT (more on that once I finish it) through Weeby Newz's streams. They're very fun, and I recommend them if you want to experience DRDT in an audio format, but, that's neither here nor there. I've just reached the start of Chapter 2, and with it, the area investigation that kicks off the chapter. Rewatching the scene introducing the Dress-up Room got me thinking-- not necessarily about the murder, but instead, about Hu's backstory and how it might intertwine with her secret. (CW for DRDT spoilers through 2-2 and discussion of suicide/suicidal thoughts, specifically overdosing.)
Despite the hesitancies I've had in the past, I am now of the belief that Hu probably has the secret, "You were quite the hopeless child. Dying once wasn't enough, so you attempted suicide three times." It's mostly because I don't think that that secret would make sense for Levi, Min, or anybody else, anymore. But, evidence such as Hu not wanting to share the self harm secret line up with this interpretation too. So, I'm not trying to argue that Hu doesn't have that secret here, because I still think it's the most likely. Instead, I want to pass something on to everybody else who thinks Hu is the hopeless child to see what you all think.
After Teruko, Whit, and Hu get their makeovers, Hu comments on her new dress being very similar to what she wears at home, down to the brand. Whit keeps the ball rolling by pointing out that a lot of things about the set seem to be creepily catered to the students. One such thing he brings up is students' prescriptions. Here's what he has to say:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my mind, ever since solidifying on the belief that Hu was the hopeless child, I believed that Hu was one of the students with the prescriptions. If Hu were that suicidal, it would make sense if she was taking something to counteract that. And Hu is a friendly enough person that I could fully believe Whit talking with her about a sensitive subject such as this.
But... was Hu actually one of the people who takes a prescription? On a second read, I think the answer may be, "no."
If Whit already knew that Hu took a prescription, why would he ask her? And, yes, he immediately followed it with "that was a rhetorical question," which could be in an attempt to save Hu from having to admit she took a medication in front of Teruko. However, if he already knew, it would have been very easy for him to just lead with "I've talked to some people around here who take prescriptions, and..." To me, asking Hu and Teruko if they take any prescriptions is an indicator that he did not talk to either of them before about that aspect of their lives. Instead, commenting on the rhetorical question was a countermeasure to his slip up of accidentally pressuring Hu and Teruko into discussing something private.
Okay, that's not the most solid evidence. What about Hu's response?
Tumblr media
Once again, this seems like something that Hu would only say if she had never thought about something like this before. At the very least, it would be something that she hadn't talked about with Whit before, unless they're both putting on an elaborate performance for Teruko's sake. I wouldn't go so far as to say that doing something like that would be fully out of character for Hu, but it does seem like a pretty weird thing for her to do based on what we've seen of Hu so far.
So, what does that mean? Well, it means that, assuming that Hu does in fact have the hopeless child secret, Hu attempted suicide three times, and yet may not take any medications for it. We can't guarantee that she doesn't, because if Whit and Hu never discussed medications before, it's possible that she does and Whit just didn't know about it. However, on DRDTdev's end, it would seem a little strange to me to have a list of unknown students who take medications, not have Hu be part of that list, but have Hu still take medications.
Now, full disclosure, I have never needed to take any medications before, so I could have things wrong. If I do, I apologize, and I would be happy to correct myself via feedback from anyone who does who's comfortable sharing.
After some very brief research, it does seem like some suicidal people aren't prescribed any medications by their doctors, because 1) either the source of their suicidal tendencies isn't something that can be treated by medicine, 2) the doctor is worried that a misdiagnosis could increase the suicidal tendencies to a dangerous degree, or 3) the doctor is worried that the patient might use the medication to overdose. However, antidepressants and anxiety medications are often used as counter-suicide methods for patients whose suicidal tendencies stem from depression or anxiety respectively. Antipsychotics and mood stabilizers are also sometimes prescribed to suicidal people with conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
So, if Hu both has the hopeless child secret and doesn't take any medications for it, it could imply a couple of scenarios:
The impetus behind Hu's suicide attempts does not include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder.
No doctors were ever made aware of Hu's suicide attempts.
Despite having depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and/or bipolar disorder, any doctors that Hu saw did not see it fit to prescribe her any medications. (Due to Hu's seemingly traditional upbringing, it could be that any doctors Hu's family brought her to don't believe in medicine. Huh? Amane who? /j)
Despite being offered medication, Hu chooses not to take it. If extreme enough, this could even line up with her preferences being for them to not exist in her room at all.
I think that any of these possibilities have some very interesting implications on Hu's backstory, which we know very little about at this point.
Of course, to even get here, you have to rely on several inferred implications, including the idea that Hu even has the hopeless child secret in the first place! It's definitely possible that I'm the only one who even believes in the conditions that led me to my three potential conclusions in the first place. Or, maybe this line of logic was already obvious to everyone else, and I'm not really bringing anything new to the table here. Still, I feel that Hu doesn't often get a chance to shine in the DRDT theorizing zone, so when I had this thought, I decided to put it out there.
Thanks for listening, and, if you have anything to say, feel free to respond! Here's hoping that, in one way or another, we learn a little more about Hu's backstory soon after the story resumes. Until next time!

Here for you, forever.
Mick Schumacher x reader
tw-swearing, smut, unprotected sex (wrap it before you tap it), swearing, lmk if there's anymore
You had been working for Mick as his PR manager ever since he came into Formula one and you had loved every minute of it.  He was such an easy person to talk to, always so kind and considerate in everything he did and you considered him one of your really close friends.
It was the last race of the 2022 season and you knew Mick was going to be upset when he came back to the garage, especially after that radio after he started doing doughnuts at the end.
You felt so bad for Mick, you couldn’t understand why the Haas team were being so harsh towards him, nobody as sweet as Mick deserved to be treated like that.
So when Mick got back to the garage you silently followed him to his drivers room, he pushed open the door, holding it so you could get in, his silent acceptance of your presence that warmed your heart.
He sat on the small sofa, his head in his hands and you quickly perched yourself next to him and ran your palm up and down his back, scratching at the base of his neck when you reached his neck.
His body leaned towards yours and soon enough he was sobbing into the crook of your neck, his arms tightly wrapped around your waist as you held each other close.
The sound of his sobs made your heart clench, your own tears appearing at his utter heartbreak.
After a while, his tears subsided but you both remained snuggled together. You wiped some tears from his face as he moved from your neck.
You whispered to him as you got rid of the salty tears that lingered, “I know it hurts right now micky, but trust me this is going to lead to better things. You and I both know that you are an amazing driver, but you’re an even better person Mick and that is going to take you far. I am so proud of you, everyone that loves you is so proud of you and I guarantee your dad is to.”
His eyes held unshed tears but that didn’t stop him from bringing your face into him as he brought your lips together, kissing you like you were his everything.
You pushed him back before lifting a leg over him to rest on his lap, your hands coming up to stroke his cheeks as you made eye contact with him.
One of his hands was wrapped around your waist, the other grasped the back of your neck, pulling you back into him.
Your mouths met in a soft, slow kiss, the fact that you were both smiling into it making it harder to flow smoothly, but neither of you cared, you were just happy to be near each other.
Things quickly got heated between you two as you grinded down into him, his hands grabbing the flesh of your ass to push you over his dick that was becoming harder by the second.
Whimpers escaped both of you, the fact that you were making him feel good only making you work harder.
Your hands grasped at Mick’s top, pulling it up and over his head, mouths disconnecting for a millisecond before coming together again to continue their exploration of each other.
You unbuttoned the front of your work top, revealing the lacy red bra you had underneath, and throwing the shirt on the floor when you were done.
Mick broke away from you to glance down at your chest, a whine leaving his throat at the sight of you, he brought his face to your chest, mouthing at the top of your boobs that wasn’t covered by your bra, then unclipping it and throwing it across the room.
You grinded yourself over his hard length again, needing to relieve some of the pent-up frustration.
“So needy for me baby, don’t worry love I’ve got you” Mick muttered against you as he continued trailing hickeys across your chest, letting everyone know just who you belonged to.
He pushed you down onto your back, one hand cradling your head gently while the other moved to the zip of your jeans, successfully ridding you of them and your panties at the same time.
He looked at you led there, bare just for him, like he was looking at the Mona Lisa itself, like you were a piece of artwork that deserved to be hung up with the most prestigious of them all.
He lowered himself so he hovered over your pussy, his breath making you shiver in anticipation whining at him to do something, “Im gunna take care of you don’t worry baby” whispered against you before he licked a line up your folds, giving your clit a flick at the end.
He ate you out like he thought it was the last time he would ever see you, your back arching as he used his tongue to circle your hole before pushing two of his fingers in.
As he used his fingers to stretch you out, he was licking and sucking at your clit, whines and moans coming out of you at the pleasure he was bringing to you.
You could feel yourself getting close to finishing and Mick could feel it to, pulling away when he felt you clenching around his fingers.
You whined at him, trying to push his head back down towards your centre but he just chuckled at you before shutting you up by slapping your clit with his dick before sliding it into your hole.
Your eyes rolled back into your head as you were stretched out by his huge cock. Yours hands digging into his shoulders as he hit your spot repeatedly, trailing kissing on your neck and marking his territory.
You got close to your peak relatively quickly as his dick hit your spot over and over again, you could tell he was close as he started thrusting into you faster and faster.
With his hand that wasn’t holding you up he circled your clit, your hips parting from the bed as your mouth opened in a silent scream as you came. He finished inside you moments later and he thrusted into you a few more times to push his cum into you.
When he pulled out a few moments later you winced at the feel of it, he pressed a kiss to your forehead before he got up, pulling his boxers on and then walking across the room to grab a cloth, wiping you down gently when he got back to you.
He grabbed one of his t-shirts from the side and pulled it over your head before pulling your legs over his lap and you snuggled into his side.
One of his hands gently patted your hair while the other drew shapes on your leg, you rested your chin on his shoulder, admiring him as he looked down at you.
And while you were worried for Mick and what the next chapter in his life would hold, you knew that no matter what you would always be there for him and you would always love him.

Pile 1
Your person isn’t making the first move right now because they feel extremely intimidated by you, by your energy but also by how you are making them feel when you are around you. There’s this nervous energy about them that is coming through really strong because you as a person, you demand respect from those around you just by the way you present yourself, the way you enter a room and how you navigate life and that’s simply too powerful and way too intimidating for your person. It’s almost like they feel as though they’re not on your level yet, they haven’t really explored themselves, but also the world the way you’ve done and they just feel really insecure when it comes to approaching you. It seems as though they’re really struggling because this person could be very domineering, energy wise, as well, but you’re far more powerful than they are and they haven’t really met someone who could actually stand up to them or is as sure of themselves, sure of what they want and actually taking the necessary action to get it. It could be that you’re the one who approached them as well when you’ve met, your eyes might’ve locked on them and you weren’t simply passively waiting for them to come to you because you simply give off that energy of “I want it, I got it” and you don’t really give up or stop until you actually have what you want. They’re simply impressed by you and who you are as a person, they are studying you but keeping their distance a little bit because maybe they’ve been used to be the one who’s in control or to actually make the first move in relationships, come up with the initiative to do something or take some form of action and you just flipped their entire world around by simply being this amazing you. This person is so into you that they just freeze when it comes to actually coming towards you, they have no idea how to act, how to react, how to respond because again, you’re a person who knows what they want and now it’s making them feel like they don’t want to do or say the wrong thing and lose your interest because they didn’t play their cards right with you.

Pile 2
Your person isn’t making the first move just yet because they are feeling very disconnected from you emotionally, they don’t really know if you are interested in them just as much as they are interested in you and they really seem to be very self conscious about the way that they are showing up with you. They are looking at things from a higher perspective, debating, thinking, analyzing and honestly the conclusions that they have reached have been pretty unfair towards you. There might be some accusations in the end on you as well, that you’re not doing this and that, that you’re not showing up and you also could be the one to actually make the first move and they don’t have to be the ones doing that at all and they are just trying to assign blame everywhere else but on themselves where it kind of is necessary. The two of you really need to sit down and have and open and honest conversation about where the two of you are at mentally, emotionally but also in this connection so that the two of you can actually address the root cause of that resentment that they have been building and forget past mistakes in order for you to move forward with the connection. This person seems to be lurking in the ‘shadows’, from behind the scene and they are actually looking through your social media, checking to see what you’ve been doing, what you’ve been sharing, maybe even looking to see if you’ve shared something for them specifically that you’re not actually saying to them directly. Instead of messaging you and trying to be mature and act like an adult, they are actually choosing to play games and actively look for passive messages for them that you might be sending them. They might be the type of person who’s not very experienced in communication, they might struggle to initiate them or even talk about difficult things that kind of need to be addressed so their other options is to just avoid those conversations and try to find answers through other means that are very indirect and non-confrontational.

I wish nothing but good things for Oliver Stark and Lou Ferrigno Jr.
They gave us such an authentic, gentle, tender experience. I've watched the clip of that kiss several dozen times now.
Oliver, especially, has been amazing in his interviews and social media posts, empathetic and honest and sweet. I don't know his sexuality and I don't speculate in real people's sexualities, but regardless he seems like a true ally. He seems to Get It.
As someone who came out later in life** it really touches my heart what they're doing.
9-1-1 has always seemed to try to do good by their queer characters and I really appreciate that.
Hen and Karen have always been a fantastic and very real feeling example of a wlw relationship.
This show is doing amazing. I wish nothing but good and happy things for the cast and crew who make this happen.
**Under the cut is my coming out/self acceptance story if you're interested.
Tw: repression, self harm, drug use, shitty relationships both familial and romantic.
I tried to come out as a teenager in the early 2000s after I kissed a girl for the first time. It did not go well.
My mother was a complicated woman and she loved me very much, but when I told her I was bi (I prefer pan now but at the time I didn't have that word) she told me it was a phase and that she was disappointed, that she would always love me but that it was wrong in the eyes of God and she couldn't accept it.
Disappointing my mother was worse than her being angry. It felt like my heart was carved out of my chest. I feel like if she had been angry or openly cruel I could have fought back, but her sadness destroyed me. I was 16 then and I continued to live at home until I was 24. I'm in my mid/late 30s now.
So I repressed that part of myself for well over a decade and spent a lot of time depressed and miserable. I self harmed and did A LOT of drugs. I'm clean now except for super occasional weed use. I have a lot of scars from self harm.
My mom died several years ago and it wasn't until after her death that I allowed myself to even think about it, any of it. I was in a relationship with a man for eight years that was loving but he was an alcoholic and I had to walk on eggshells around him because of his mental health struggles; he was emotionally abusive but in a way that was only apparent in hindsight. I thought that my relationship with him was as good as I was going to get. We broke up not long after my mom died.
The only family member I am out to is my older sister, who has been amazing and accepting and loves me completely. Without her support I would be lost.
I have now dated/hooked up with women, men, nb and trans people. I have explored my own gender identity (it's whatever, I don't feel like a woman despite having the female equipment and appearing female in body, I feel pretty masculine but not like a man either, and I don't have strong opinions on pronouns, but I feel like I fail at femininity and masculinity in equal measure so I call myself genderqueer. I don't have any desire to take hormones or have any surgeries, I just want to be a person without having to perform gender).
I live in a conservative small city in the US south and I feel disconnected from the wider queer community. I don't know how to bridge that gap. There is a small queer community here but you can't really be openly out and be safe.
I'll be going to my first pride event this June. I'm excited and terrified because I don't feel like I'm queer enough or The Right Kind of queer, which is such a stupid stress to have, but I don't have many friends to talk about this with and I am hoping to get out there and make some but I'm nervous. I'm socially awkward and kinda weird. I'm also single and trying to mingle, lol.
I like who I am now but it was an incredibly difficult road to get to this place. I'm still on that journey, and maybe I always will be but that's ok. I'm finally myself.

Kinktober 6- Blindfold
Kiri x Metkayina fem reader
Warnings ⚠️: Coochie eating, female fingering, strong Kiri (You’ll see lol)
I did end up having to use the “Y/n” once, and this one was a lot shorter than all of my other works so I apologize for those who were expecting something longer.
I also apologize for posting it later, I wanted my wife @shit-i-say-shit-i-think to proofread it and she means the world to me because she is such an amazing person.
I do attempt to kind of match or tune in to a character to get my works perfect so if this is something you guys do not like, please don’t be mean and leave constructive comments I beg you, I am a sensitive person.
Kinktober 2023 Masterlist
Word Count: 1,624 (again I’m sorry this is my first time writing for Kiri)
My breath hitches the moment her tongue darts out to lazily follow the curvature of my lips as we share a heated kiss, delving slowly into my mouth and finding my tongue immediately, allowing herself to explore my mouth while playing with my nipple. Hot white heat courses through my veins as she drags her other hand from my cheek down my neck with just two of her fingers teasing the sides, causing a shiver to run along my spine. She’d asked if the blind fold had been placed too tightly around my head to which I shook my head, the fabric had me closing my eyes instinctively as I could not see anything through it, allowing my other senses to flourish where my sight could not.
Just as she disconnects her mouth from mine I’m left whining pathetically, not knowing when I would feel her lips again, her fingers having flicked the nipple she’d been playing with and causing a moan to slip out, wanting nothing more than to have her fingers down further. Her other hand finally coming down to tease my other nipple and I could feel the heat pooling in my lower belly and the slightest bit of wetness between my legs, subconsciously squeezing them and seeking some form of friction before feeling a harsh flick on my nipple and squealing.
“You look beautiful in nothing but a blindfold on, my love.” She teases as she continues trailing kisses down my collar bones, fangs scraping by and causing shivers to ripple throughout my body, my already stiffened nipples standing at attention even more, and the moan getting caught in my throat as she places her lips back onto mine.
“We don’t have time-“ I moved my head away from her mouth before feeling her nip at my neck, a gasp leaving my lips and a frustrated sigh following after as she attaches her lips at my pulse point.
“Don’t worry, we have time.” She states as her hands drag past my hips and toward my thighs, gently caressing them, but I knew the time we did have was limited, the two of us work on different aspects of duties here in our village, and I had willingly walked away from mine and dragged her with me.
“Don’t lift me, I’m too big-“ I started right as she hooked her hands under my thighs and brought me up, she hasn’t ever done this but always wanted to, and I’d protested against it because of her body being thin, there was no way she could hold me up. “Kiri!” I yelled at her as her arms lay under parts of my thigh, hands holding me up on my bum, my legs dangling down her back. My own back had been pressed lightly against the bark of the tree in the area where most of our fruit grew, but even so her arms did not shake, and it turned me on knowing she had been able to lift me with no worries.
“You worry too much, yawne.” She mumbles as her lips kiss on my left thigh, tickling the sensitive skin there as well as her fangs creep out and gently catch on the skin, tugging and adding a bit of roughness that drove me wild. Her kisses coming up as high as her head would allow her, suckling on the skin here and there, leaving wet splotches and possible bruises to form later on.
“Please, I need you,” I pant and wait for her to come closer toward where I needed her, only to feel her hair tickling the thigh she’d just been worshipping and her lips attaching to the other one. I know I’d been the one to drag her out here to do this, but in all aspects other than this one, I was the more outgoing one, pleasure was hers.
“You asked so nicely, how sweet.” She coo’s as she places a kiss on the corner of my inner thigh just close enough to feel her breath fan the area I wanted her to ravish. I’d seemed to realize that my hands had been tangled in her hair to keep myself grounded on something. The shorter strands tickling my wrists and feeling my need pushing me to release her hair with one of my hands, the other starting to grip harder just slightly.
“Fuck-“ The odd word falls from her lips as I squeeze on to her Kuru and purposely push her face toward my sopping pussy, wanting her to tongue the folds away and make her tongue dance on my clit wildly and bring me to an orgasm.
“Kiri please, I need you-“ I had planned to beg but felt her tongue prodding alongside the lips of my pussy and delving deep in as she collects some of the juices that had formed near the entrance, and gliding her tongue upward toward the spot she drove crazy.
“Yes-“ I hiss while dragging out the word, and gasping as soon as her tongue completes the small circles that drive me absolutely wild, thighs gently squeezing onto her head but attempting to keep them open, although her breath hold is close to ours, I didn’t want to suffocate her.
“That feels so good,” I moan as my hips have a mind of their own and thrust into her face, enjoying the friction of her nose bumping against my bundle of nerves on the occasion that my hips knock her tongue off.
“Mhm,” She mumbles in agreement, her grasp on my bum was getting harder, I huffed at the feel of being brought to a plateau as her tongue moves but no longer providing all of the satisfaction needed to bring me over the edge.
“Need more, please,” I huff while continuing to change the angle of my hips and failing to move from the plateau I was feeling, getting tired from the change in position and speed, still wondering how she had yet to drop me, as we were built bigger than her kind, and she still has yet to tremble from holding me up.
“Oh great mother-“ I moan as my hips jerk at the feel of three of her fingers sliding in immediately, due to the cloth covering my eyes I was having a hard time trying to peek over and see how she was able to do that, noticing that the one arm that she did have on me had been readjusted to hold support my weight and still no trembling.
“Kiri, I’m, how are you, oh yes!” I moan as she thrusts with her fingers focused on an upward tilt and making my walls flutter. “Please don’t stop, I’m- Ahh~” my hands grasping at her shorter hair, having let go of her Kuru as soon as her fingers had slid in, nails scraping her scalp harshly but I couldn’t bring myself to pull my hands away. I tug at her head to come closer to my pussy even while her tongue is constantly drawing circles and the occasional figure-eights and feeling my breath draw shorter.
“M’coming, oh my Eywa, I’m coming!” I felt her fingers continue their pattern, not once growing sloppy, and her tongue working overtime on my clit, allowing my orgasm to be drawn out slightly, feeling the bark of the tree scratching up my back in a delicious way and adding to the stimulation.
After finally being able to come to my senses I feel her gently slide her fingers out of me and I sigh at the loss of them having fit snugly in previously, her other hand finally coming to the back of my thighs, sliding out from under my legs, and settling me back down on the ground. It seems as if the light from the sun filters in my vision all at once and I have to close them with a squint again due to its brightness.
“Here my love,” She mentions gently as her nimble fingers work to place my tewng on my body, tying the bow that keeps it on my body quickly, leaning down to hand me my netted top, and grabbing her hands in my own, watching her eyes focus on mine.
“I should return the favor, yawne.” I mutter softly enough for her ears to pick up, I can see the smile forming on her lips as she leans up to peck my lips, I let my hands glide on her arms and bring her closer by pushing the back of her shoulders gently, feeling her take a couple of steps to come closer to me. My hands place themselves on her hips, my thumb running along her waist. I bite her lip playfully, feeling her mouth open and sliding my tongue in her mouth, exploring hers at this point.
“Where are Kiri and Y/n?”
“I have no idea, they ran off together and we haven’t been able to find them-“ The two of us part and I rush to place my top back on, feeling familiar fingers trail on my back to help tie it off and making sure to tug on it so it fits appropriately.
“You’ll owe me later.” She smiles and pecks my lips.
“Could I use the blind-cloth on you?” I ask trying to remember the term she had used in the other language she spoke, seeing the adorable smile spreading on her face, her hand coming up to cover it and it makes me blush deeply.
“Blind fold.” She corrects me and I nod.
“Can I use the blind fold on you?” I ask and raise the skin of my brow.
“We’ll see, try not to get in trouble with your dad and I’ll think about it.”

One Piece-Chapter Round-Up(Chapter 1082)
Tumblr media
Haven’t written anything in a while on here manga-wise but there’s no way I miss talking about such a banger One Piece chapter. To start off with we get an adorable cover of Chopper mistaking Zeus for cotton candy. It’s good to know our collective son is being fed. It takes a fandom to raise a human animal hybrid after all. Jokes aside, I’m going to be diving into spoilers for this chapter below the “Keep reading” so check it out if you’re curious. Also, ya’ll should probably hold onto your butts cause this one’s gonna go a lot of places.
Tumblr media
R.I.P T-Bone. As a lover of weird and offbeat characters in One Piece, I am genuinely crushed by T-Bone’s death. If you don’t remember, as he was mainly a minor antagonist in Water Seven, here are some reminders.
Tumblr media
He is one of the most lionhearted and kind character’s of One Piece, looking after both his subordinates and innocents. To me, the most logical way for T-Bone to have been killed is to have seen the citizens' plight and laid down on his sword so that he could get the reward money for his family. That’s the kind of man T-Bone was. He transcended the Marines as an institution and stood up to the strawhats as he believed them to be villains on the way to enact evil. After having his car disconnected and facing Rocketman bearing down on him, he faced Zoro in a one move duel, losing but having Zoro acknowledge him in the process. In a certain way he was also used to foreshadow Ryuma in Thriller Bark as he was skeletal looking and a swordsman. But most of all, he was an unquestionably good person in a world where muddled alliances and the forces of the world can waylay and mislead someone from their dreams and ideals. In my heart you will be missed T-Bone.
Tumblr media
Moving on, with a heavy heart, I do want to take a second to talk about old One Piece, specifically Water Seven. As I went back to get screenshots I couldn’t help but marvel at the art of Water Seven. While Oda’s art has probably gotten better, his paneling in those days was in my opinion, at the height of Shounen paneling, matching up with the original Dragon Ball in terms of fluidity of action but bringing such a heavy emotional weight to the characters and line work that it really felt like the peak of his art style. His art has gotten a lot more refined but I really missed the adventurous romantic feel of his pre-timeskip art. As a whole, as things get more dense and locked in, the lack of romanticism and sense of adventure is really felt at times. Despite that, it has been replaced, for the most part, with other equally amazing things. Though I can’t help but miss it at times.
Tumblr media
Talking about the actual chapter again, I’ve looked favourably on the Marines in the past, like Garp and Koby, but if I spend an extended period of time thinking about them, that pleasant taste turns to ash in my mouth. Because the Marines as an institution, are broken and corrupt, more intent on perpetuating themselves than they are with forward momentum and progress. As is the territory with institutions. It’s a portion of why policing doesn’t work in real life. Living in Japan, with their harsh views on crime, Oda would know better than most. Despite what this chapter seems to be about, this chapter is actually exploring what I believe to be one of the main themes of One Piece, the inevitability of institutions. There are probably punchier and more accurate ways of conveying this theme, such as systemic oppression and such, but this really resonates and covers the full gamut of ideas that I believe Oda covers. I will expand on this as we move along but I wanted to put it out there so it would be on the back of yalls mind.
Tumblr media
I absolutely despise Sengoku. Like as a person. As characters I don’t think there’s any that I actively dislike because the way Oda characterizes just works on me. I need to make that distinction because I think my dislike for Sengoku is something Oda has purposefully generated within me and others. Talking earlier about Koby and Garp and Hibari and T-Bone and other marines, there is a very important distinction to be drawn in that regard as well. And some very important points to be made. Marines that are on the younger side, like Koby and Hibari and Tashigi, are people that have joined the Marines to do good without having yet become fully complicit in its evils. But they have done so because it is, despite its flaws, the best way they can make a difference and not be stopped. It’s the inevitability of the institution, where despite it’s evils it must provide some sort of benefit, and where those with dreams must filter through it and make it greater just to have a shot at their dreams. People like T-Bone and Smoker are clearly different from similarly old people like Garp and Sengoku and Aokiji in that while the former may be in the Marines, they do their best outside of its systems, being forces of good in spite of their association. The latter on the other hand, as a result of their complicity, whether or not they have good hearts, have become tools of the Marines oppression. Garp’s name is repeatedly used to strike fear into the hearts of pirates and as a symbol for common people to look up to, despite his best attempts at changing them from the inside. And the argument for changing the Marines from the inside itself is such a flawed argument as can be seen with Garp himself. Trying his whole life to change things ended up with him being ground into the dirt while watching his grandson be murdered by a coworker. Dragon must have realized this as well and so created an organization to oppose it. The revolutionary army are an institution itself but one built on the premise of opposition rather than self perpetuation. They are meant to end when the World Government and Marines do. Though I do believe Oda also doesn’t think that to be the answer as our hero is a Pirate. Arriving at the end of this paragraph I just realized I didn’t address the moment that made me go on this tangent. As pictured above, Sengoku hears of T-Bone’s death and rather than mourn the man who many looked up to, he worries what it will do to morale. He wonders how the institution of the Marine’s will keep going. If he was ever a good man, the ways of the marines have corrupted him to think this way. In a way Cross Guild, another institution, also occupies a similar area as the Revolutionary Army, but Oda makes it even clearer that it’s not the way as our first big introduction to it is through the death of such a great character.
Tumblr media
Now let’s move on to the meat of this chapter. Buggy and Cross Guild. As we see above, this really down on his luck man was the one who killed T-Bone. Though knowing how strong T-Bone was, being called the ship slasher and being acknowledged by Zoro, as well as how kind he was, it’s easy to believe he let himself be killed to save this man's family. But it’s also through this interaction that we get a repeat of the theme that I mentioned earlier, The Inevitability of Institutions, as well as a great bonus where we see the inherent romanticism of Buggy. Buggy and his lackeys, Mihawk and Crocodile, have propped up Cross Guild to be an institution for Pirates, a much more successful version and iteration of both the Utopia Crocodile wanted and the Pirate Kingdom Blackbeard wants. They have made themselves the doors one must walk through. But this need also sets up the way that Buggy will later reject this monolithic thinking.
Tumblr media
As we see here, these institutions make it so that now, even to live, you must subscribe to one of them. As much as Cross Guild claims to be pirates, they are an entity in and of themselves. Because the whole dream of piracy is the freedom of not having to cater to anyone else's whims or conform. Cross Guild aren’t pirates, they’re Cross Guild. Another thing I want to comment on is the In the Flesh chants. Obviously the dramatic irony makes it funny since most of it is just cloth, but it’s also such a great representation of the makeup of Cross Guild itself. By propping up Buggy as the leader of Cross Guild, he comes to represent something that is mostly not him, just like how his giant persona isn’t him.
Tumblr media
In the panel above incorporates One Piece’s trademark humour, and later levies it into an emotionally resonant and stirring declaration. I know most people are freaking out about Sabo returning but I can’t get over how much I love Buggy. And his crew pulling a similar stunt to Barto Club, and having him be the figurehead of the ship actually also highlights how close Buggy is to Luffy as well. Also I love Buggy’s crying face, it’s so pathetic.
Tumblr media
I know this panel is mainly played for laughs but I can’t help but feel sorry for Buggy. He really hasn’t done that much wrong to deserve this. And seeing the meeting room, it seems Mihawk, the edgelord that he is, really enjoys his torture. Remember, Mihawk’s full name is Dracule Mihawk, the first part being based on the famous Vampire who’s namesake in turn was known to impale and torture people. It’s really interesting how, other than the mentor and goth side of Mihawk, we also get to see his sadistic side here. But Buggy’s declaration that his life wasn’t supposed to be like this really calls my attention. While Mihawk and Crocodile argue about how to make sure Cross Guild and Crocodile’s Utopia can stay afloat and perpetuate its own system, Buggy dreams.
Tumblr media
Buggy is one of Luffy’s best foils in the story, their interactions being so explosive that they can’t help but reveal things about each other. Luffy has a lot of parallels in the story from Blackbeard being a cowardly mirror to him to Koby being a weaker version whose cowardice was driven by his lack of strength. Buggy doesn’t have courage or strength and his circumstances had forced him down quite a dark path by the time the two crossed paths. Buggy was someone, who, seeing the potential of his peers, was forced to give up on his dreams and take the route that life gave him. As he stated, he never wanted to be what he became, he genuinely believed in Shanks and probably would have followed him had he set out for the One Piece as Shanks was the reason he gave up on the dream in the first place. Buggy, in an elevated sense, also represents those swayed by the circumstances of their life into having their path chosen for them and filtering into an institution, this time in the form of Cross Guild but earlier in the form of Impel Down. Buggy is someone who was forced to give up on his dreams and Oda shows what dark paths that can lead to but he also loves Buggy a lot because he doesn’t let Buggy fully give up on his dreams.
Tumblr media
And there it is. With just those words, driven purely by dreams, Buggy injects such a heart-stirring sense of romanticism back into the series. Because here's the thing. We already know Luffy’s unwavering goal has been the One Piece. And he is the most romantic character in the series in terms of love for adventure and exploration. But it’s been a constant and now he has the strength and clout to do all of it without barriers. Buggy is chasing that dream while impeded by some of the strongest people in the verse. In the face of such strong adversaries, Buggy dares to blindly dream and it reminds me so much of Luffy at the beginning of the series, looking down a Sea King as it stood in his path. Crocodile and Mihawk are monstrous but Buggy actively defies them. I love One Piece ya’ll.
Tumblr media
So is Buggy a bad guy? Or just a fool who couldn’t hold onto his dreams as the waves of reality slammed into him? Here, he rekindles those dreams by verbalizing the feelings that drove him and every other pirate out to sea. A dream of freedom and treasure. The dream that you could aim for something other than what life had laid out for you.
Tumblr media
This is by far, one of my favourite speeches in One Piece. It reminds me of Rogers speech and delivered by such a pathetic character, hits so much harder. By doing this, Buggy defies Crocodile and Mihawks desires for a self perpetuating kingdom as there is now an end goal and really stands for the ideals of the series itself, a blind dreaming hope, the desire to chase after impossible dreams, and the love of the journey itself. What matters to these people isn’t that they’ll get to the treasure, it’s that they tried to. And were free while doing so.
Tumblr media
Not me crying at Buggy D Clown. One Piece gets me so emotional sometimes. It’s so beautiful. But asides aside, let’s wrap up some other thoughts in this final Buggy panel before getting to Sabo and the Revos (good name for a band?). First of all before we get to what this symbolizes for the series itself, I want to say a few more things about Buggy. His situation of failing upwards has always been shown in a comedic light but I believe it shows the insidiousness of the world. Because while the lower rank people, like the man who killed T-Bone, have to get filtered through these organizations to live, so does someone like Buggy, who doesn’t have the strength to resist such a fate. If you don’t have the strength to resist these institutions, they will use you as tinder, as fuel. Luffy isn’t in an institution because he’s strong. Almost every other character in the series doesn’t have a choice against it. Wheen you think about it, Buggy’s story really is a tragedy. Somewhere along the way, through necessity of survival his values got twisted. He’s always been a dreamer through and through so I think that’s why it’s sent him on an upward trajectory. But it all began with Luffy, who not only set him on the right path, but also gave him hope when he broke him out of Impel Down.
And now the other purpose of this panel. With Buggy declaring his hunt for the One Piece, all 4 Yonkous are now on the hunt. Do ya’ll realize what this means? What the structure of the next arc is going to be? So this part is going to be mixed with some speculation and some evidence, but I strongly believe the next arc is going to be a showdown at Elbaf for the last poneglyph with every major Yonkou involved, with the final arc possibly after getting the One Piece or at the location itself being a showdown between Luffy, the Revos and the Marines. Or it very well could be a final showdown with all the involved parties at Elbaf. That all depends on how fast Oda wants to end things. I believe one of two people could be the man with the burn scars. The obvious choice is Jaguar D Saul. And that would be the way to go if Oda wanted to end the series faster, as him having the writings of Ohara as well as the last poneglyph would also set the Revos and the Marines scrambling after him. The other could be Scopper Gaban, the third prominent crew member of the Roger Pirates. That would be the final Roger Pirate marking Luffy’s journey and a great source of info. The last possible bead we had on him, if it wasn’t Shiki the lion, was him drinking with Crocus. But effectively, having one person hold the last key to the One Piece makes it so that the four Yonkou’s are on a collision course with them. I would love to see a Mad Max style race where the Yonkou’s are forced to clash purely for the love of adventure and their dreams, instead of ideological differences setting them against each other. It would be a really romantic and fun way to cap off some character’s journey’s.
Tumblr media
Moving on once again, we see some new Revo’s and I particularly love Ushiano and Ahiru. While the other two are also very cool, I love Ushiano’s way of speaking and his character design, he reminds of Barney but if he was soft and lovable. And Ahiru’s character design is just so great. I don’t know if anyone remembers Nami’s early character sketches but she was supposed to have a bionic arm so I’m really glad to see that return in another character.
Tumblr media
And here we get to see them interact with Sabo and find out that Ahiru was going to blast him. Ugh, Oda’s just so great with characterization! In about three panels we find out that she has a stoic demeanor, is a shoot first type of character, and worries about and misses Sabo, letting her guard down and being quite cheery around people she just met. And Ushiano is just adorable. I want to hug him.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, Sabo’s back by the way. So it appears that Sabo did indeed survive the bombing of Lulusia and he’s seen something. His interaction with Koala is adorable and mirrors Koby and Hobari to a tee.
Tumblr media
And here we get the theme of this chapter rearing it’s head back one last time. Another set of down on their luck, weak citizens forced to filter through an Institution. This time the Lulusians through the Revolutionary Army. Oda has, in every instance possible in this chapter, where we look out into the world, highlighted the absolute despair involved in the inevitability of institutions and the forced choices that come with such a world. And is it a coincidence that this only happened when we took a look out into the world, away from our beloved strawhats? No, as we saw even earlier, through Aokiji being forced into the Blackbeard Pirates and the 100 damned souls onto beehive, in a world of inevitable institutions and forced choices, such decisions are forced on the weak. It’s why our protagonist is Luffy, and why he desires freedom. It’s exactly what he fights against, and it’s reflected in his crew as well as he took them away from the lives they thought they would be forced to lead.
Tumblr media
And finally we arrive at the final panel of this chapter. The truth about Mary Geoise. And a promise of a reveal. Oda usually likes to cut away at moments like this to maintain the breakneck pace of weekly releases but I really hope we get to learn what happened. Because it could very well contextualize for us what the next part will look like and whether or not the final confrontation will include everyone. It’s also very sweet that Sabo thinks about now involving his subordinates as it might get them killed. This information could also line up with the potential release of information that could happen from Egghead coming up so it could be saved for that. I’m really excited to see what it brings. Another thing that this chapter, being so good, makes me think about is how I’ll feel about it later when I binge the series. Because it’s always a balancing act between week to week storytelling and making an engaging continuous story. Back in Dressrosa, the week to week was a bit of a slog but on a reread and binge it was frankly amazing. I wonder if the breakneck speed and absolute amazing experience week to week right now will affect it negatively as a whole later on. Well, the only thing we can do right now is wonder and wait for next week.
If ya'll got this far, thanks for reading. I'm super late on this one but I'm glad I took my time because I could let my thoughts develop. And once again, if anyone wants to talk One Piece or any other manga with me in-depth, don't be afraid to hop into my dm's. See ya'll next time.

Pavitr Prabhakar x Indian!Reader (Platonic)
Got sick of there being no Indian!Reader fics with my favorite ATSV characters so I wrote one :D
Even though it says "Indian!Reader", anyone can read it and not really pay attention to the race of the reader. It doesn't really matter and since the fic doesn't have a plot, it won't disturb your understanding of the fic!
Summary: Meeting Pav and getting to explore Mumbattan with him! Reader feeling a little disconnected from their culture, but having a blast after visiting Mumbattan with him.
TW: Reader is established to be a spider person, Fluff, Not much of a plot just wanted to write something cute for my desi readers!
____________________________________________________________
You were walking through Spider Society HQ, a bit tired from the sleepless night you had and hoping to find some kind of distraction from the responsibilities of being a Spiderperson. Not really paying attention to your surroundings, you began to drift into a bit of a trance, walking along the path aimlessly, nodding at the Peters and Mjs who waved at you but lost in your thoughts as you tried to process the events of last night. Fighting your universe's version of the Sinister Six, coming back home with cuts and bruises, spending the night trying to clean them and cover them so your friends and family wouldn't see your wounds the next morning, being a Spider-person was difficult to handle. You just wished you had a distraction, something you could do, somewhere you could go to calm down and destimulate. HQ was nice and all, but it was so formal, what with the training and conditioning centers, and the boring food court.
"Arre, watch out!"
You felt a body collide with yours, sending the two of you stumbling backwards and crashing into a wall. "What the-"
"Oh no, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
You looked over woozily to see the boy who'd crashed into you, wearing his decorated Spider-suit, the colors practically blinding you as he approached and tried to give you a hand to help you get up. You took his hand, trying to shake the dizzy feeling from your head before you spoke. "Its alright. How did you even-"
The boy eagerly spoke before you could finish, his tone full of excitement. "Its my first day here, and I was trying take a self-tour of the HQ, but I think I was going too fast" He said, his voice and expression seeming slightly sheepish. "I'm Spider-man! And you?"
"Spider-woman. But you don't have to call me that. My name's Y/N."
"I'm Pavitr! But most call me Pav."
"Hey Pav. Where're you from?"
"Earth-50101! At least thats what Miguel told me. For us, its just Mumbattan!"
"Mumbattan?" The place sounded oddly familiar, as if you'd heard of it before. Wait..."Do you mean Mumbai?", you asked, a smile spreading across your face.
"I don't know what Mumbai is, but sure!"
"Oh man, its been forever since I've been to Mumbai! Its been forever since I've been to...well...India in general."
"Oh?" He sounded like he was thinking something over. "Well, would you like to see your Mumbai? Or a version of it at least?"
"What do you mean?" You asked, a little confused.
"Do you want to come to Mumbattan? You have a watch, right?" Pav looked down at your wrist excitedly, seeming happy to have made a friend at the Spider Society so quickly.
"Mumbattan huh? Well...uh..." You had to mull it over. I don't have anything else to do...besides I haven't had pani puri in so long...You should to yourself, the memories of street food in India flooding back to you. Oh how you missed the place. "I'm down."
About an hour later, you and Pav were swinging through Mumbattan, with him showing off the whole city to you, pointing out the different attractions, the nicer temples, and even his own favorites, like small shops and stalls which he said he often bought from.
"And over there, they have the best chaat in the whole of Mumbattan!"
You whipped your head to the side at the mention of chaat, the memory of the delicious snack coming back to you as the aroma made its way toward where you two were sitting. "Can we get some?"
Pav nodded his head and led you closer to the stall, still staying on the roofs of the buildings, swinging above the heads of the crowds in the area. There were more than a couple stalls, probably anywhere from 20 to 50 of them, the sights and smells practically flooding your senses. "Chaat or vada pav?"
"both. Both is good."
He laughed at your response and motioned for you to wait there while he grabbed some. You took the few minutes to take in the rest of the sight. Mumbattan was beautiful. Yes, it was crowded, but the people were just a part of its charm! There were miniature temples everywhere, with women in saris and men in dhotis entering and exiting them. It reminded you a lot of home, where you family was from. I mean, it technically was your home...just a much more futuristic version of it. But then of course, some things never change. The temples, the street food, the traffic, it was all practically the same.
You were pulled out of your thoughts when Pav reappeared next to you, holding a paper plate with two different chaats in it. Papdi and samosa. Nice. He also brought vada pav, which he immediately started snacking on. "So...Indian Spider-man huh? Never thought I'd see the day"
"you're Indian too, correct?"
"eh, its not the same. You're like Indian Indian, I haven't even BEEN to India in ages."
"Well now you have, haven't you?" He said with a smile, nudging your shoulder. Damn this guy was optimistic. It was refreshing.
You chuckled at this. "Thanks for the food"
"Anytime! If you ever visit again, I'll bring you to even more stalls next time. We can get pani puri too!"
"Sounds perfect."
"Does this mean we're friends now?"
"Do you wanna be?"
"Yeah."
"Then we're friends. Us desi's gotta stick together, right?"
A/N
I didn't really know how to end it, so I kind of gave it a crappy ending, sorry for that. This fic didn't really have much of a plot, but I just really wanted to write something that was Indian/Desi reader related because despite there being a whole Indian spider-man, there's like zero fics where he encounters an Indian reader or an Indian oc! Hopefully this was readable and any and all feedback is appreciated!
I love Pav so much, I just wanna hug him and be his best friend 😭

hello! so i have been thinking about my plurality recently and have realized; i am mostly blurry 24/7. i am the host which makes things a little weirder. i feel like a blank slate most of the time and have a hard time defining “me”, things have been getting more bizarre are to i’ve lost a good chunk of attachment to my name and have been more murky about my gender and sexuality even though i haven’t felt like this in forever. i’ve also been very dazed and kind of lost aswell. i have a theory it may have to do with the amount of stress put on our brain as of late but i could be wrong, i’m willing to take any advice as to what might be happening, thank you!
Hi! To us, it sounds like you could be going through a couple different things: dissociation and/or brain fog!
Dissociation is a common symptom for many systems, not just those of us with dissociative disorders! We understand dissociation as disconnection - this can be a disconnection from our thoughts, feelings, actions, memories, surroundings, and more. When we are dissociated, we often feel blurry, hazy, dazed, confused, and out of touch with the world and ourselves. It can be difficult for us to make sense of our surroundings or communicate properly with other people.
We’ve compiled a list of resources on two common dissociative symptoms: depersonalization and derealization. We’ll link it here in case one of the resources listed might help you!
Something else you might be experiencing is brain fog. For our system, dissociation can be a symptom of brain fog, but these are actually two distinct things! We are most likely to experience brain fog when we’re overwhelmed, exhausted, overstimulated, or dealing with more than we can handle. For us, brain fog does have that dazedness that comes with dissociation, but it also can feel like a headache, lethargy, difficulty concentrating, and serious mental exhaustion. We haven’t written a post on brain fog (yet), but we’ll include a link to an article where you can learn more about it!
Dissociation and brain fog honestly can look and behave in very similar ways, so it may depend on your personal situation to properly understand which of these symptoms (if either of them) are affecting you!
If you’re not dissociating or experiencing brain fog, you may just be going through a rough patch and are having some doubts about yourself and your path in life. This is okay, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, and it’s something lots of people go through at some point in their lives! It might be worth it for you to spend some time questioning your identity. Maybe try out a new name or pronouns, explore new possibilities for your gender and sexuality, or just go with the flow and see where your thoughts and ideas take you!
Through all of this, please make sure you are taking care of yourself and your system, both body and mind! We have a little check up post we’d like to share with you. If your needs aren’t being met, you may be feeling burnt out, stressed, or exhausted as a result!
We hope something here is helpful or useful for you! We are not clinicians or experts by any stretch of the word, so we cannot diagnose you or pinpoint for certain what’s going on with you right now. But still, we are wishing you the very best and hope your blurriness will fade with time and a bit of self care! Best of luck to you with everything!

The first thing you get right away from the newly dubbed chat is a kind of complicated sequence of things to try in the plant room. With those plans in mind, you first grab one of the sharper chisels in case it comes down to trying to threaten the plants in the right direction. You also remember to set an alarm this time. Then you leave the stone room for the plant room. As soon as you step into the pool room, though-
Tumblr media
“-Oh! -Flesh?”
It looks up at you and smiles. “That’s right. I made my decision. I don’t want to stay here forever. I thought I would explore a bit, and I’d probably encounter you soon. I suppose I was right.”
You're surprised by its appearance, but also just pleased to see it. You walk over to sit on the pool rim next to the flesh.
“You look... human. Kind of. -Uh, that’s the species I am, if you don’t know.”
“I didn’t know that. But I know... well, it’s not exactly knowledge. But, from the walls, the floors, the ceilings, and everything within them, I got some very vague images of people like you. Humans. I thought I would try to emulate that shape. How do I look?”
It looks... distinctly uncanny-valley. It’s naked but doesn’t have genitals or nipples and doesn’t really feel naked, somehow. It looks like an alien with a very mediocre idea of what a human looks like tried to make one from scratch, which you guess is what it is. It looks rather unsettling and wrong.
“You look like yourself,” you say, “I like it.” You mean it.
The flesh grins at you. “Thank you.”
“How does it feel?”
“...It’s strange to be disconnected, but I don’t think it feels bad. I think it will take some getting used to. Moving around in this form is also a little difficult.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. You probably just need practice.”
“I think so. And if it turns out I don’t like this form, I can still change it.”
“Man, I wish I could do that... Eh, well, anyway, I should probably get back to getting keys. I was about to go into the plant room and try to figure out the puzzle, do you want to come with me?”
“Alright. That sounds nice. Oh, before that-” It points at the strange liquid in the pool. “This is void. I thought you might want to know that.”
“Oh, huh...” You stick a hand in the... void. “I would have thought void would be more... dangerous? But I was sitting in this stuff when I got here, and that was fine.”
“I don’t think any of the elements are inherently dangerous to any other element.”
“Well... that’s definitely interesting, thanks for telling me. Shall we go now, though?”
“Alright.” It stands up awkwardly and follows you into the plant room. “Hm... I like this room, I think.”
“It is pretty pleasant, isn’t it? I still wanna get out of here, though, so...”
You tell the flesh about what you’ve seen in this room and what you plan to do.
“Oh by the way, maybe you wouldn’t know, but do you know if it would be safe for me to eat this fruit?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Well, I mean, at least in my world, some plants aren’t safe to eat for humans.”
“Well... I know the walls, the floors, the ceilings, and everything within them doesn’t want to harm you. But I can’t be certain it wouldn’t do so by accident.”
“Hm...” You turn the fruit over in your hands. You’re... pretty hungry... “...Well, maybe I can just try a little, and if it seems okay I’ll try more later.”
So you carve out a bite-size chunk of fruit using the chisel you brought, then another chunk on the flesh’s request, and give it a try. You like it; it’s mildly sweet and just a little spicy, and sort of reminiscent of pear flavor. You feel fine for now. You refrain from giving in to temptation and having more, though. Instead, you let the flesh have the rest- it’s apparently a big fan.
As the flesh messily devours the rest of the fruit, you kneel down next to the big clock and tentatively try moving the minute hand. It turns easily, and as you turn it you find the angle of the light changing noticeably. Unsurprisingly, it’s more dramatic when you try the hour hand. You fiddle with it until the room feels like sunset, the beam at a dramatic slant so that it’s not shining on the tree’s branches anymore. You watch hopefully for a long moment... but the branches don’t budge.
“Hm...”
It’s disappointing; you thought that seemed like it made a lot of sense. But you guess you’ll just move on to the next suggestion.
You tell the flesh you’re going to go to the water room just for a bit, and it elects not to follow you. It’s still going at the fruit. So you head over on your own.
You were planning to look at the false door to see if there was some way you could get the water out, but before you can do that you notice a change. At the base of the pillar, you find a large glass pitcher, and above it coming out of the pillar is a faucet.
Hey, that’s convenient!
Sure enough, turning the handle, water comes pouring out. You fill the pitcher and turn off the faucet. Looking at the crystal-clear water in the pitcher, you inevitably feel the dryness of your tongue.
Is this safe to drink..?
It looks just like ordinary water. Doesn’t have a smell. You dip a finger in it and taste a drop. All of your senses are telling you it’s regular water. You really want to just gulp it down, but you decide you should follow the same principle as with the fruit; try just a little and go ahead and have more if nothing bad happens after a while. ...Although. That does mean that you’ll have to wait even longer for the water, since it wouldn’t make sense to try both of them at once; then, if you did get sick, you wouldn’t know which one did it.
“Ughhh...” you whine out loud. You feel kind of silly for it, but then again, you think you’re allowed that in this situation.
Tragically, you don’t drink any water and instead just bring the pitcher back to the plant room.
“Oh, you found some water. That seems like it will likely be useful.” You suppress a laugh when you see how much juice is covering the flesh’s face.
“Yeah, hopefully. I guess we’ll find out.”
You dig around with your foot at the base of the tree and follow the root that seems to be pointing most toward the keyhole. When you find the end of it, you pour some water a little farther, out of its reach. You and the flesh both watch, but again, there’s no change.
“Jeez, what does this plant want?”
“Hm...”
Well, I guess it’s time for violence.
You whack one of the branches a bit with the chisel, and after it doesn’t respond you even cut off part of it, but it still doesn’t move. You sigh, but you’re not that surprised. That was the idea you were least optimistic about.
A second after you give up on that, you notice the next idea from chat coming in.
“...Hey, flesh, did that fruit have a pit?”
“No. Just regular seeds.”
“Hm... oh, right, I also wanted to go try something...”
You explain what you’ve been thinking about, about the keys and how to get the right shape, and whether there’s actually anything behind other doors than the one in the water room.
“Oh, but maybe you know anyway? You said you know the basics of the layout...”
“There are more rooms outside these five, but they’re not connected. I don’t think you are supposed to be able to reach them. But, about getting the right key shape... I could always create a flesh key the same way I did before, with the shape that fits the keyhole, and you could use that as a model.”
“Oh! That would be perfect, then!”
You and the flesh agree to go work on the stone key, but before that... it’s been a while since you ate the bit of fruit, and you’re feeling fine. Maybe you should wait a little longer but you don't want to. So, you get the flesh to pick another couple fruits from the tree- it can reach higher than you, especially because it has no problem stretching its body unnaturally to get taller.
In the stone room, you (messily. chisels were not made for this) cut up some fruit to share with the flesh, and you discuss.
“I mean, I think I could take one of the bricks, but would the walls, the floors, the ceilings, and everything within them be okay with that? I don’t want to make it angry...”
“I’m not sure how it would feel about that. I don’t know how you’re supposed to get any of the keys besides mine.”
“Hm...”
Before you can think about it much more, though, your alarm goes off. The flesh jumps.
“What is that?” it asks as you shut off the alarm.
“Oh, it’s just- um- you don’t know what a phone is, do you?”
“No.”
“Well, this is my phone. It’s useful for a lot of things. I set it to make that sound at a particular time, so I know, y’know, that it’s that time. That's all it was.”
“It knows the time?”
“Yeah. I’ve been using it to keep track of the ten hours. Right now, the seventh hour is about to end. That means... jeez, there’s only three hours left.” That thought makes you feel pretty anxious. You sigh. “...Which I guess means I should probably go ahead and gouge out one of those bricks, and it can tell me if it doesn’t like that. But I’ll do that once the hour has changed.”
The flesh watches you curiously as you watch the time. You feel a little self-conscious. Finally, though: 9:00 am.
What now?
--HOUR EIGHT--

what did you think of batdr?
So, grain of salt, at time of writing, I have not played or watched BatDR all the way through; I got it liveblogged to me by a friend (which honestly was an ideal experience) and then watched some cutscenes. INITIAL FEELINGS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
When BatDR’s release date was announced, I told friends that I thought it was going to be a pretty tight balancing act – if BatDR was REALLY GOOD, it could kill the enthusiasm for the fandom; yknow, a lot of times when you get what you actually want out of a story, the fervour fades. If BatDR was REALLY BAD, I could become too embarrassed about this franchise and not enjoy playing in it anymore. It has to be the perfect balance of messy and unresolved, but not TOO sloppy or thoughtless, and unfortunately for my ability to stop thinking about it, I think it kinda nailed it. BatDR has some heartfelt and startlingly compelling ideas that it executes sort of incoherently, which makes it FASCINATING.
The joke I keep making is that it’s not a sequel, it’s not a prequel, it’s a fanfiction. And I don’t mean that as a diss – it has a fanfic off-the-rails willingness to commit to a wild, self-indulgent take and just go with it, and I think that’s great. But it’s also sort of… disconnected from the original BatIM, in a way? It doesn’t follow BatIM’s themes at all when you think about it. Conflicts and questions in the original game (the downfall of the Studio, Who Was The True Creator Of Bendy, etc.) are strangely brushed aside in this game, rather than developed or resolved.
Which is why you get weird things like, there’s a REAL ACTUAL NEAR-PERFECT TOON BENDY wandering around, but the original BatIM characters (Joey, Henry, Sammy; people you’d expect to have some kind of big feelings about a true toon Bendy) don’t ever get to interact with him because their feelings on toon Bendy aren’t the point here. BatDR explains what the loop in BatIM was, but that’s not something you discover yourself, because the loop is obsolete now – it’s just explained briefly in order to get to the real focus of this game, Joey Drew having a daughter. Even before you get to timeline questions/possible inconsistencies, the game feels less to me like an actual sequel that builds on the previous game, and more like a neat AU with its own headcanons bouncing off of and interpreting the previous game.
Anyway, some random specific thoughts that come to mind:
They really coulda done something with the family theme if they’d just had Wilson go ahead and say who he was early on. Why did that have to be a surprise? I don’t think saving it really added anything.
Everything about Audrey being Joey’s daughter is AMAZING and I can’t stop thinking about this. Absolutely fascinating development. Have a lot of conflicting feelings on how this was handled but THATS FOR ANOTHER POST; I really do like this, though.
"Something he had always wanted, but could never have: A family." SO JOEY'S LIKE, CANONICALLY GAY IN THE GAMES TOO NOW, RIGHT??? THAT'S PRETTY CLEAR CUT????? LIKE ITS THE MOST OBVIOUS REASON JOEY COULDNT HAVE A FAMILY BEFORE??? HES A GAY SINGLE DAD!!!!
I RLY LIKE THE DESIGNS FOR HENRY AND JOEY. I was surprised to find that the way my brain parsed them was like, they’re the designs for the BatDR AU. Like BatDR is a new fan showing off their designs for their crew, and I’m drawing fanart for their cool AU.
The Ink Demon/ Bendy stuff uh, resolved very strangely. Am very into Bendy and the Ink Demon being the same entity but wish that had been explored a little more!
I actually like Sammy’s cameo(s). I’ve always gotten the feeling that the creators of BatIM were never entirely sure what we all saw in Sammy, so if they didn’t have anything they were particularly hyped to do with him, I think cameos were the right call. The Subject 418 moment is PERFECT. NO NOTES. His 5 seconds before getting shot at the end is like, it’s silly that he died immediately and we all joke about it, but also there’s an element of OH, IM SO GLAD HE GOT TO BE HERE FOR THIS for me, too.
GENT being all OOOOO LOOK AT ALL THEIR SUPER UNETHICAL SCIENCE, LOOK HOW SINISTER THEY ARE is kinda uninteresting to me. Something like, a single audiolog going “huh, that’s weird, when GENT left for their new building, all the ink left, too….” would be way more unsettling than explicit confirmation of GENT taking over and doing lethal human experimentation. And like, idk, I feel one of the things that made BatIM compelling was that it had all these spooky tropes, but motivated by a startlingly mundane desire – people believing in a cartoon so strongly that it accidentally veers into unhinged science and dark occult worship along the way. As soon as they’re just doing normal unethical science with ambiguous motives that seem totally disconnected from the studio, it becomes kinda generic.
Nothing about Wilson is coherent, to the extent that I honestly wonder if the original plan for Wilson was different and he had to be shuffled around for some reason.
What else happened in this game….. Im glad alice got a murder party but I don’t know why she’s here. That One Scene with her and Allison feels very fanservicey but not in a bad way lmao.
Probably other stuff but I think this post is long enough!!

Hello,
I'm currently studding traditional witchcraft after trying to follow wicca for quite a long time. I had such a disconnect from the wiccan ways and its like breath of fresh air finding traditional craft. I identify with it deeply. I started my journey with "The Crooked Path" by Kelden and I'm currently trying to get more books on the subject (but money is tight ofc).
I saw your beautiful post about the witch father, and I was hoping to ask you a bit more about the witch father. I did the ritual in "The Crooked Path" and have gotten many signs that it worked and ofc I could tell while doing the ritual itself. I kind of picture the witch father as Baphomet and that's how the witch father has manifested in dreams and synchronicities I've noticed.
I've tried looking up more about the witch father but the internet just keeps putting me in circles. I've even looked at numerous theistic satanism resources for answers as well, but I'm not sure if that's the right place to look either. So, my question is, how do I keep and foster a good relationship and where can I find more information on him. "The Crooked Path" is an excellent book but its just an excerpt after all. Thank you ahead of time and sorry for the ramble.
Hello! And thank you for your question, no need to worry about rambling. I know how trying to find information can be dizzying and how much it can send you in circles. (Also I want to say sorry for taking a few days to get back to you- it’s been a *week* for me)
First, I do want to say that yes, the Witch Father has also manifested to me similarly to Baphomet but they are very much dissimilar and I don’t find a thread between the two. For more about Baphomet, you really have to dig into the works of Éliphas Lévi (which will definitely lead to a Golden Dawn rabbit hole.
As for theistic satanism resources, that would be the wrong place to look for information on the Witch Father. The paths are very very different in their approach.
To dig deeper into the Witch Father, I would suggest parsing through “Ancient Criminal Trials in Scotland” by Robert Pitcairn. It’s a compendium of transcriptions from trials and other legal documents. There you can search through different witch craft trials (you can read it free on Google books) and especially the transcript from the trial of Isobel Gowdie. But be warned, it’s not written in modern English and can be tricky to read in some parts.
Another book I’ll recommend is “The Witches’ Devil” by Roger Horne it’s pretty thorough and explores the Witch Father in his many guises.
Above all, this is an experiencial path. Look for Him in the untamed wilderness. Don’t stick to the well worn paths through the woods. Look for the oldest, most primal parts and find the Heart of the path here. In all of His stories, he is nature untamed and primal. That is where you can find him.
Keep working through “The Crooked Path.” It’s an amazing primer for the path and as you forge the connections they will strengthen and you’ll get a better understanding of who The Witch Father is. Hold the Sabbaths, practice your magic and your devotion. Research is great and I always recommend it, but the practicing is why you’re here. Do the magic, do the works. Fostering your Witch Flame is what will turn the relationship from embers into an inferno.
I hope this helps and always feel free to ask follow up questions 💜

The Bollywood Lovers' Club Review
This book absolutely wrecked me (affectionate)
4/5 Stars!!!!!!!
Amrita Sidhu moves away from her home in California, leaving behind a community and extended family where she knows who she is. Her new home in Ohio is cold and lonely but at least she has a couple of classes with Dave Gill, who is sweet and funny and awkward and Mormon. Amrita is Sihk and is not supposed to be dating anybody, certainly not a Mormon kid that her family doesn't even know. Dave is already struggling with how to tell his parents he won't be going to college like they expected, and he's still undecided on a mission. Falling for a girl outside his religion just adds another secret into his life.
This book centers around religion, faith, family expectation, and personal goals. I wish I'd had this kind of book to read growing up. For once I felt like my high school experience was accurately portrayed.
Spoilers under the cut
1. Well written - 5 Stars
Admittedly, you could probably find flaws in the plot if you looked. It's a High School Romance. Some things are cheesy or happen too fast or whatever, but personally I found the story and writing style engaging, realistic, relatable, and anxiety inducing at time.
2. Fun level - 5 Stars!
I love to read, but it's not often a book can hold my undivided attention for 4 hours straight. This book did. Every time I picked it up I felt myself sucked into Dave and Amrita's world. It might not be everyone's cup of tea (it IS a high school realistic fiction novel. No magic or spaceships) but I was entertained the whole way through.
3. Complex faith - 5 Stars
This is my favorite representation of Mormon life that I have EVER seen. It is exactly the kind of book I am looking for in this project. Dave is Mormon. He goes to early morning seminary and helps out in his ward. He loves his faith but he's also not afraid to ask questions about how things pertain to him personally. He grapples with his faith, and with what people have told him to do, before coming to his own conclusions.
Importantly, Amrita's religion is portrayed just as complexly throughout the book. And neither Dave nor Amrita ever consider giving up their faiths or converting or anything. I appreciated that they included Dave's grandfather, who converted to Mormonism from Sihkism, and explored how Dave feels this disconnect when he visits the gurdwara, like it's a place he should belong, but doesn't.
This book treats religion as a mixture of personal beliefs, family tradition, and community belonging, which is how I feel about my religion.
4. Homophobia scale - 2.5
Absolutely no mention of queerness at all. So it just gets the most medium score. There was no preaching but no gay people.
5. Mormon weird - 2
We had Dave explaining his green jello video project at one point, and a portrayal of Mormon wedding reception in the church gym (someone in Dave's ward at the beginning of the book). But overall it was light on the things that make Mormonism unique. Which I think worked for the story it was telling but does get it a low score in this area. It made me feel all the more represented for that I think.
6. Diversity of characters - 4
There are only like, two white girls in the whole story. Everybody else is Punjabi/Indian. Although that's really just one demographic, I am giving it a high score here because of how much it showed of Punjabi culture, and how much respect and honor those traditions were shown by the narrative. It wasn't just a ton of token characters, it was genuinely working to share a kind of story that doesn't always get told.
7. Other problematic stuff - 5
Didn't notice anything more of note.
Conclusion:
This is the kind of story I wish I had been able to read in high school. This is the kind of book I could recommend to someone as just, genuinely a good story and also it includes mormons. And Mormons done well! I feel like a lot of Mormon media I've seen focused a lot at making fun of ourselves, and I love that this book doesn't do that at all.
The end was heartbreaking. But I like that it allowed each character their choice, and it gave honor to prioritizing something other than romantic love.

I love that Ethan is Jewish in your fic. I like that it adds some depth to his character and is especially poignant in zombie-ish settings I think. I was wondering your opinion on non-jewish writers making characters Jewish in fics? Especially in settings that could be especially upsetting for a practicing Jew. Im Jewish but I feel like I barely qualify as both my parents are Jewish atheists and I'm kind of disconnected from my faith so I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to include such hcs in my fics. Also I was wondering, what do you think about Jewish!Karl Heisenberg?
Oh, thank you! Making Ethan Jewish was initially an impulse decision, but one I felt very strongly about once it was in my drafts. I'm glad it resonates. <3 I do think putting a Jewish character in a zombie setting is such an unexplored area, and if I'm brave enough I definitely want to eventually push on what Ethan's (loose) sense of Jewish faith would make of realizing he's a mold!boy, given Jewish laws around body modification and funeral proceedings...
I personally have no problem with non-Jewish writers writing Jewish characters, though a couple things worth noting here--I fall into the old(?) camp of thinking that generally a mixed/diverse cast more representative of the real world in any story, so long as it is done with respect and good intent (and an open ear to feedback), is for the better, rather than the new (Twitter inspired?) mind that one can only ever write from their own worldview successfully (There's layers and layers of nuance here concerning that debate and what stories one "can" write and where one might be overstepping boundaries, but that's not your question really so I'll not jump into my whole spiel there).
The second thing worth noting, though, as it pertains better to your question and your information on your personal situation... depending on who you ask, I'm not Jewish either, lol! To be clear, I identify as Jewish both religiously & culturally, have Jewish ancestry, and consider myself a practicing Jew--but I'm only ancestrally Jewish through my father. My mother was not born Jewish nor ever converted. Depending on who you ask, I'm not Jewish haha. I see myself as Jewish, as I was raised in no other faith, and according to many reform Jews--the sect I belong to--that's good enough. If you asked many other Jews, though, (hell, if you asked some of my own orthodox ancestors), they'd likely tell you "no!!!".
Rule number one, with Jewish people, in my experience? None of us agree on almost anything lol. Jewish faith is splintered into vastly different sects and practices, these days, and what's acceptable and true to me as a reform Jew likely lines up very little with what's acceptable and true to most Orthodox or Conservative Jews. I guess I say all this for two-fold reasons: One, to not cast any illusions about my Jewishness in order to better appear a "jewish authority," but also to stress that... there's no single good answer for a "jewish authority," because Judaism isn't a singular uniform religion. As the child of non-practicing Jews, you likely already know a lot of this, but it feels worth stressing! To me, if you asked, I'd say you're Jewish if you feel you're Jewish, which entitles you to explore and write about your view of Judaism/Jewish identity however you please--in fics or otherwise.
And for people who aren't Jewish at all, I think it's just worth noting--there's no interpretation of Jewishness that would please all Jewish people lol. I'm sure my interpretation of a Jewish!Ethan would be wildly offensive to some other Jewish people. So much as I say, "write in good faith and listen thoughtfully to feedback," no one should ever be shocked if they're praised by some Jewish people and criticized by others. Like all religious and cultural/ethnic minorities, Jewish people are not a monolithic opinion... we're arguably more splintered than many minorities lmao.
But yes, tldr, my personal opinion? I think you individually have every right to write Jewish character hcs into your fics, just as I think anyone can as long as they do so with respect, restraint, and forethought (&, as a Jew, "barely qualifying" or not, I'd say you personally have more wiggle room than goyim to just...do as you like with your writing about Jewish-ness... when one is basing their fiction off any personal experience, arguments about 'validity' become ridiculous. It's valid if it's true to your experiences and feelings, even if they're not universal! Nothing is universal!). That said--take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I have no more right to give you a "Jewish stamp of approval" than anyone else!
(And on your last note, I'm actually a huge fan of the idea of a Jewish!Karl. My current draft notes for his chapters currently imply his mother was Jewish, but I'm undecided on whether I'll explicitly leave that in. In my heart, though, yes, he's matrilineally Jewish. I think it brings an additional element to his backstory of basically being abducted into a religious cult and stripped of his own identity as a child particularly... poignant... because boy did Christians do this to some Jewish kids, historically!)

The Place Where The Lost Things Go
A/N: Alto writes fluff, ten dead, six injured
AO3
Over a decade ago, Tsuru Kitagwa could only lie down on the floor dying as her mentor smiled and refused to get her medication.
Then she woke up in the body of a fox in a small town called Inaba.
Over the years she’s watched people come and go, worked to restore the shrine, had some kits of her own, got a teenager to do various odd jobs for her by offering a discount on magic healing leaves when he and his friends entered an alternate reality inside the TV, and ceded watching over the shrine to her daughter while the other kits left home.
She can’t help but feel disconnected from it all, like something is still missing.
She’s doing her usual tour of the shopping district, when she hears a familiar name.
“Kitagawa!”
Huh? Why would someone call her name? She trots over to Tatsumi Textiles where Kanji is addressing a group of students she doesn’t recognize. Kanji’s a very nice boy despite his face, and she remembers hearing something about a cultural exchange program with Yasogami and some school in Tokyo, where art students could come to Inaba for a weekend to learn about pottery and textiles that Inaba made famous.
A slender young man trots over to the group, and Tsuru tenses.
She’d recognize her Little Da Vinci anywhere. Yusuke! That’s her Yusuke!
“Sorry Tatsumi-sensei,” Yusule says. “I was simply distracted…”
“You’ll get a chance to see everything soon, just stay with the group. Don’t want you getting lost.”
Her little boy! Her baby! Her son! He’s here in Inaba! Is he too thin? He looks a little too thin. Naturally Tsuru follows him around. He keeps making very good and insightful comments about what Kanji shows off, but the other students seem to ignore him.
The group disperses to let the kids explore on their own. Yusuke quickly begins buying various things that seem a little random, then his stomach rumbles. Aww he’s just like he was as a kid. Getting so wrapped up in his business that he doesn’t realize it’s dinner time. She remembers having to promise him that he could finish coloring when he was done, but a growing boy needs to eat.
Yusuke heads over to the steak stand, then stops and frowns.
“Oh, I seem to have spent all my money…” he mutters.
What? He didn’t budget for food?
Shit. Her son is bad with money.
Yusuke frowns and starts to head towards Amagi Inn, where they’re naturally staying. Oh no, no way is she letting her Little Da Vinci go to bed hungry! She has to get his attention somehow.
She spots a scrap of fabric hanging out of his bag, and leaps forward to grab it.
“Hey! That’s for my friend!” Yusuke shouts, and he follows her.
She leaps up and hits the bell of the Dojima residence with her tail, and Nanako-chan opens. Tsuru bolts inside before she can react.
“Wha?” Nanako-chan gasps, and Yu comes down in the commotion.
“I’m sorry, that fox stole my scarf!” Yusuke says.
Tsuru’s patiently waiting in the living room and as Yu looks between them. “Ok, what are you trying to get at?”
Feed my son! Tsuru tries to say, but of course all anyone hears is “yip, yip, yip!”
“Uh, do you need something?” Yu asks. “That fox is pretty smart, she’s probably trying to help you.”
“By stealing a gift for my friend?” Yusuke says.
“I promise she’s really kind.”
Suddenly, Yusuke’s stomach rumbles again.
“...do you need something to eat?” Nanako-chan asks.
Yusuke’s eyes widen. “The fox did jump out at me when I realized I didn’t have money for food.”
“Yeah, that sounds about right,” Yu says. “Well, come in.”
“Really? You’d do that?” Yusuke gasps.
“The fox is a good judge of character, even if she’s… roundabout sometimes.”
If you could understand me, I wouldn’t have to be, Tsuru thinks.
“So, are you one of the Tokyo students?” Yu asks as he pulls something out of the fridge and heats it up.
“Yes! Inaba’s lovely! There’s so much culture here!” Yusuke announces, pulling things out of his bag. “I have a friend who grows plants so I got her this jar, there was this man by the steak shop selling models that would look really nice in another friend’s room—“
“Who’d you get the sword for?” Nanako-chan asks, pulling a wakizashi out of Yusuke’s bag.
“I admired the craftsmanship. In fact I had a wonderful discussion with Diadara-san about metalworking.” Yusuke sighs. “Ah if only I could take it up in Tokyo, it might be useful…”
“It’s always nice seeing someone from the big city who likes Inaba,” Yu says, putting a plate in front of Yusuke who digs in.
“It’s wonderful!” Yusuke says between mouthfuls. “I don’t think I could live here though, it’d be too far from my friends.”
Yusuke’s smile drops.
“It’s already hard enough with some of them in different cities or countries, and who knows what’ll happen when we go off to college.”
Tsuru heads over and tries to put a comforting paw on Yusuke’s lap.
“I think things will work out,” Yu says. “Seems like you and your friends have strong bonds. A little thing like distance won’t break them.”
“Thank you,” Yusuke says. “Goodness, how crass of me, you’ve done all this for me and I haven’t even asked your name!”
Yu laughs. “I’m Yu Narukami, and this is my cousin Nanako Dojima.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Yusuke Kitagawa.”
Yusuke cleans off his plate.
“Thank you so much for your hospitality, Narukami-san.”
“Well you should thank the fox too,” Yu says. “I think she likes you.”
“Futaba would have something to say about that,” Yusuke says under his breath. “Thank you.”
Tsuru wags her tail and runs circles around him. At least she was able to help her Little Da Vinci somewhat.
“Wow, she really likes you,” Nanako-chan says. “Maybe even more than big bro!”
Yu frowns. “After all I’ve done for you?” he says.
Sorry! You can’t blame a mother for being biased towards her son.
Yusuke stands up and stretches, and at that moment there’s a bright flash of lighting and roar of thunder. It normally wouldn’t be a problem, except Yusuke’s caught off guard and trips.
Into the TV.
Tsuru has enough time to hear Yu say “shit” before she jumps in after him.
Did Tsuru fully understand the TV World when she first started following Yu in? No. Did anyone feel the need to stop and explain it to her? Also no.
But she died and reincarnated as a fox so it’s not like she has room to question it.
She understands enough to know that Yusuke falling in might still be dangerous even if it’s less pressing than it was when the murders were ongoing.
Upon landing, she scampers over to Yusuke who is sprawled on the ground and has a conspicuous bruise on his forehead.
Oh poor thing, he must have landed headfirst. Of course he inherited her tendency to bruise easily so she also can’t tell how bad it is.
“Yusuke,” she says patting his face with her paws, “wake up.”
“Hmnnnn five more minutes mother…” Yusuke murmurs before turning over.
“Yusuke! Wake up! It’s not safe.”
“Uggghh…” Yusuke finally sits up. “What happened?”
“I wish I could explain sweetie,” Tsuru says. She sniffs out where the exit is and makes sure Yusuke is watching so he’ll follow her.
“The atmosphere here,” Yusuke mutters, “it’s just like— oh. There it is.”
Tsuru turns around and suddenly Yusuke is wearing… a fox costume? Well it’s probably meant to be a kitsune costume given the mask.
“WHAT THE HELL?” Tsuru gasps. Her baby is a magical girl?
“Look out!”
Tsuru turns and sees one of those shadows about to attack but then Yusuke summons a Persona and blasts it away.
Her baby is a magical girl with a Persona?!
Yusuke picks Tsuru up and zips her into the front of his outfit. “Can we just keep heading this direction?”
Tsuru nods and Yusuke takes off.
It must have started raining the way the shadows are agitated, but thank goodness there isn’t more fog.
Soon enough, they run into Yu fending off some shadows alongside with Kanji and Teddie.
“Uh, Kitagawa-kun?” Yu asks.
“Narukami-san!” Yusuke pants, clearly getting tired.
“He’s not a shadow,” Teddie says.
“I can see that, but then why did his outfit change?” Kanji asks.
“This just sort of happens when I need to fight,” Yusuke explains. “I’m shocked you all are summoning Personas without masks.”
“Oh good, you already know about Personas,” Kanji sighs in relief. “I was worried we had a lot more to explain.”
“The shadows here are weird looking but really the thing that confuses me is how I got here and why your fox sounds like my mother.”
“This is the TV World—“
“WAIT, YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ME?” Tsuru gasps, cutting off Kanji.
“THE FOX CAN TALK?!” Yu gasps.
“NOW YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ME?!?”
Yusuke blinks and gently removes Tsuru from his suit and sets her down. “Um, yes I can understand you? This is someplace in the Metaverse, right? A place made of human cognition?”
Teddie nods. “Yeah, we don’t call it the Metaverse but it’s a place made from the thoughts and feelings of everyone in Inaba!”
“Right, and being here changes your cognition so you can understand…” Yusuke frowns. “I can’t call you Fox-san, I’m Fox. Sorry, is there something else I can call you?”
“Mother or mom or mama, whatever.”
“You can’t adopt him just because he has a fox costume,” Yu says.
“No, literally. My name is Tsuru Kitagawa, I died and woke up in the body of this fox around 14 years ago.”
“M-mom?” Yusuke gasps. “Is it really you?”
“Of course Little Da Vinci, why did you think I was looking out for you earlier?”
Yusuke looks about to cry. “M-mom”
“Hey sorry to interrupt but can we do the reunion stuff when there aren’t as many shadows around!” Teddie yells.
“Right,” Yu says. “Come on the exit is this way.”
Once they’re back in reality, they all settle on the roof of Junes.
“Are you still hungry dear?” Tsuru asks. “Do you need something to eat? Yu can you buy him some steak skewers?”
“I’m still not over you talking,” Yu says, going to order.
“Ok so you’re sure the fox is talking,” Yosuke, who’s gotten off of work and joined them, says.
“Yeah man, the fox talks,” Kanji says.
“Then how come I can’t understand her?” Yosuke asks. “I mean, I’ve been to the TV World.”
“Well being in the Metaverse, or TV World in your case wouldn’t be enough,” Yusuke muses. “I know someone who’s been there but still can’t understand Morgana because she never heard him in the Metaverse.”
“Is Morgana a cat?” Yu asks, coming back with the steak skewers.
“Yes, how did you know?”
“Something about this just feels familiar,” Yu says.
“How’d you mean, partner?” Yosuke asks.
“It’s like a vague sense of deja vu. I can’t really explain it.”
“Weird,” Teddie says. “But I’m still confused about Ms. Fox. We’ve been to the TV World with her before but she only talked now?”
“Well it’s all cognition,” Yusuke says. “So I suppose the most likely explanation is mother didn’t expect you to understand her.”
“That’d make sense,” Tsuru says. “I’ve been a fox for a long time, I gave up on other humans understanding me years ago. I suppose deep down I want Yusuke to understand me, so my cognition changed.”
“Awww,” Kanji says.
“Man are you tearing up?” Yosuke sighs.
“Shuddup! If my ma died and I reunited with her after years I’d be sobbing.”
“I’m very happy to see you again, mother,” Yusuke says, petting her head. “Would you like some steak?”
“No! You need it more, you’re skin and bones!” Tsuru says. “Who’s in charge of feeding you, anyway?”
“Myself, mostly,” Yusuke says. “I live in the school dorms.”
Tsuru frowns.
“You know, mother, I was thinking,” Yusuke says. “Would you like to come back to Tokyo with me?”
“Really?”
“Of course!”
“But surely you can’t have pets in the dorms!”
“We can keep it secret,” Yusuke insists. “You can just come around in my bag like Morgana does with Ren! Or I’ll move out!”
Tsuru isn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. “You know most sons can’t wait to move out of their mother’s house.”
“I don’t want to force you or anything, I’m sure you’ve built a life here in Inaba,” Yusuke says, “it’s just, I’ve missed out on so much time with you, mom.”
Tsuru nuzzles his chest. “Oh Yusuke, I’d love to go back to Tokyo with you.”
The next day, Tsuru is back at the shrine roughly explaining the situation to her kits. Despite being born after Yusuke, they’re all grown up, and the boys have gone off to find their own dens, but the girls are perfectly capable of taking over the shrine.
Sofoxnisba is the oldest and she’s resolute when Tsuru explains that she’s in charge now. Foxes and other animals don’t communicate the way humans do, so Tsuru can’t give all the details, but she promises to visit when she can and reminds Sofoxnisba to watch over the others, and Sofoxnisba takes the responsibility within pride.
As Tsuru leaves, she passes by some people going to offer their prayers. The shrine has been her home for a long time now, and it’s taken her as much as she’s taken care of it.
But there’s a new chapter of her life ahead of her now, and it’s with her son, waiting down the road.

DLC Thoughts
This is continuation from a previous ask! It was going to get REALLY LONG so I decided to just make this separate post, also because I know some people are going to want to know (and not want to scroll through my whole previous essay post to find out).
So, what are my thoughts on the DLC (Wave 1 and 2)?
Honestly, not much so far to be completely real. I'm disappointed by the DLC looking like it's going to be another character-centric story in some kind of subarea or straight up mirror dimension that's probably going to have abstract platforming with (likely) reskinned Octarian enemies... again. They started doing this with Octo Expansion and continued it with Alterna, putting extremely strange and grand stories out and shoving them into some largely irrelevant pocket of the world that has nothing to do WITH THE ACTUAL WORLD or has no consequences, and I'm frustrated that Side Order is looking like it's going to be that... Again, judging from just what we've seen so far.
Of course, I am AWARE that this is a good decision for DLC as it allows the stories to be completely separate from the main game and having DLC visibly affect the world even for people who didn't play it could be confusing. And yes, I'm aware that both the Deep Sea and Alterna have EXTREMELY IMPORTANT LORE that definitely have something to do with "the actual world". But what I mean is you don't get to explore THE WORLD of the game, in favor of being shoved into some random, dead, insignificant completely new and disconnected area that ultimately tells you nothing new. As someone who is like, in love with Splatoon's world and DESPERATE to just have adventures IN THE WORLD, see other cities, wilderness, ANYTHING of the sort, it is AWFUL every single time we get a single player campaign and it somehow completely dodges expanding on the world. It makes me feel Pain inside.
But complaining aside, I'm talking about the Inkopolis Plaza hub first. Honestly? Extremely torn on it. They've made a whole wave that's essentially just a reskin of the hub you can use, I'm assuming, instead of Splatsville? It's extremely underwhelming, to be honest - I'm almost positive we are not getting Squid Jump or any of the minigames back (the minigame machine's location has been mowed over by Grizzco's new Inkopolis Plaza location), and 99% we are NOT going to be able to visit Octo Valley. And of course Battle Dojo has been replaced by the Shoal (though I doubt many people would've missed the dojo, lol). So like, really the Inkopolis Plaza wave is a rehash of a hub we already had before, with LESS content than it had before. It's not a very easy sell for a big portion of Splatoon 3's userbase from what I can assume, but at least that's not the main thing you're buying, so it's really more of a side...
And a quick note in-between, I'm really happy that they're doing the DLC in waves like many people were theorizing. It even looks like based on trailer graphics, there might be FOUR waves, which is going to be extremely exciting if it's true (because honestly I'm really underwhelmed with what we have if it's going to be... everything.)
But returning to Inkopolis Plaza (literally), I'm pretty happy we're getting it, mostly because I love seeing its progression in the timeline and it actually does bring us some crumbs of worldbuilding. We see that the train station has been rebuilt and there's now a stairway leading to the plaza, which is much more accessible than there Literally Being No Road and you had to Illegally Trespass Train Tracks and Parkour Over A Plant Display to actually get to the plaza in Splatoon 1. There's new shopkeepers, and new businesses, and familiar faces, and Grizzco has a really shitty location here. I just like seeing the game world live and move on with the times, so just for that reason I'm going to be really happy to step foot in there. It confirms that there IS still some life in that, despite what they were saying in Splatoon 2 about the plaza being a ghost town.
And speaking of life, you can probably use Inkopolis Tower as a lobby, which raises more worldbuilding questions I've briefly thought about before... but not too much because there were no direct answers. Are all the lobbies in business at the same time and are they running shared turf war matches, or is there some kind of region or ruleset split? Considering Splatsville's lobby does Turf Wars in Inkopolis, too, I think that's a solid "no" for the regional split at least now with the flying spawn points; it might've been a "yes" before. I always wondered whether Deca Tower and Inkopolis Tower were active at the same time and just running different Turf War scenes, or if the Inkopolis Tower lobby shut down as Deca Tower became active, or if Deca Tower was active even during 2015-16. While there's no solid yes or no answer, I think at least NOW it's safe to say the answer is probably... the lobbies ARE all in use at the same time. Which is cool!
In other worldbuilding crumbs the plaza gives us: yes, the Super Advanced High-Speed Technological Marvel of Transport that allows Splatlands Inklings to battle in Inkopolis despite being oh so far away.... is the train. Just like what everyone assumed it would be when it was first said. I mean, cool! With that, we get the confirmation that YOU CAN take the train from Inkopolis to Splatsville and realistically, it would probably not even be an hour considering it might be mostly crossing desert and we don't know of any other cities on the way. It IS strange to me that you would make that trip on the same kind of commuter train that does low-speed transport in the heart of the city, though, seeing as longer stretches of land usually utilize different high-speed trains. But whatever, man. We learned something, I'll take it!
You may be wondering how I've already talked about the Inkopolis Plaza HUB RESKIN for like 4 paragraphs. Jokes on you, here comes another paragraph. As for what I can pretty much already tell about it, we’re probably not getting Octo Valley (that’s a whole singleplayer campaign they’d have to remaster and I doubt they’d just port it) or Squid Jump. But there’s a few things I’m hoping we will get... those being:
1. Squid Sisters stage news. It would feel extremely strange to me if they went through all the effort to bring back Squid Sisters performing just to, uh... show us Splatsville’s news in Inkopolis. It would feel extremely cheap to be honest, but even still I kind of doubt we’re getting the OG Inkopolis News back. After all, Inkopolis News was taken over by Off the Hook in Splatoon 2, although they’re... PROBABLY not doing it anymore? Idk, we’ll see.
2. Slightly more likely: Ammo Knights SPLATOON 1 TEST RANGE. Seriously, it’s a small thing but come on!!! In Splatoon 3, there’s already like what, 4 separate test ranges (the Lobby one, Grizzco, Shoal and Ammo Knights Splatsville). Inkopolis Plaza is just a reskin, but it would go a long way to at least include all of it. The test range from the first game in the back alley is my favorite test range out of all of them just by aesthetic, and I’ll be very disappointed if it doesn’t make it. Not to mention it will just... feel extremely weird if I go to the test range in Inkopolis and the game magically warps you all the way to the Ammo Knights test range in another freaking city.
3. The Inkopolis Tower lobby. This is for the same reason as above: MAN is it going to break immersion if you have this perfect replica of Inkopolis, and then.... you go to Inkopolis Tower just to magically be transported back to Splatsville’s lobby????????? I feel like the Splatoon 1 lobby wouldn’t be an impossible expectation, because we already have a retro lobby screen in the game with what happens when you go into the kettle in the lobby building and it pulls up a menu. The ideal outcome to me would be that they’d model the inside of the Inkopolis Tower lobby and make it walkable just like Splatsville’s, but I’m not getting my hopes high... I’ve just always REAAAAAALLY wanted to know what it’s actually like and how it works.
(And I’m aware that a retro lobby would make waiting for matches boring as hell again, but maybe they could put squid jump there? Again, doubt it. But also, PLEASE.)
4. Splatoon 1 battle music. Old music is literally already in the game, it just can’t play in battle. I would love it if entering battles from Inkopolis would play Splatoon 1 music. Just anything to make the plaza something more than JUST a visual reskin!!!
I think I’m finally done with the plaza for now so let’s move onto what people probably ACTUALLY want to hear about, that being Side Order...
So, as with like every person on the internet, I also at first glance thought it was going to be a Marina origin story (which clearly it’s not). The character in the trailer is presumably Agent 8 with black tentacles, and it seems to have a black and white theme, which is cool. The teaser we got did not give us a whole lot to work with, and the assumption is that the DLC is a huge WIP, maybe even mega early in development - we literally got One Single Shot of gameplay footage and even that was just... inkopolis square.
Oh, but it’s NOT REALLY Inkopolis Square. I didn’t notice at first, but Deca Tower, despite having the same screens (just perfectly aligned instead of pointing at all different angles, in theme with Order), is actually replaced by a whole other tower underneath. By now everyone reading this has probably seen all the speculation on tumblr or twitter or elsewhere or both, so I’m not going to be parroting much of it here because to be completely honest, if it’s a character-focused story again taking place in (supposedly) a mindscape... i don’t really care lol
One thing we can say pretty much for sure; the world is not real. The popular consensus right now is that there’s a big emphasis on self-reflection, of course we all know that Agent 8 lost their memories in Octo Expansion. They never got those memories back, right? So I could see that being some sort of focus... or the focus is some new random threat that works based on shock value again and doesn’t add anything interesting to the world OR the characters. But as I said, the world is very likely not real. Inkopolis Square is completely white, the tower has been literally replaced, the ground is covered by some kind of... sand, and there’s weird corals everywhere. Considering the place is not that far from the Plaza, whatever’s happening there would definitely be reflected in the Plaza as well, which I don’t see happening.
Moving on to the corals. We’ve seen corals in Splatoon before in Shellendorf Institute! But none of them have been THAT BIG or on land. I’ve been a land coral believer this whole time and I’ve been wanting to see them (alongside other wildlife) SOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAD, so I was extremely excited about seeing the corals! To my dismay, if the story really takes place in a mindscape, facility, or digital world or whatever, those corals don’t REALLY mean anything in the end. But at least the imagery is there?
People have already made the connection to coral bleaching, a phenomenon where corals lose their colors and become white due to varying factors, such as pollution or global warming. I actually like how this connects to the Splatoon world because corals are naturally extremely colorful, and them being washed of all color is extremely unsettling, which is pretty much an exact statement you can also say about the Splatoon world. I’m predicting that the DLC will be about restoring color to these monochromatic, decayed hubs (HOPEFULLY PLURAL AND THE SQUARE ISNT LITERALLY THE ONLY WALKABLE AREA, WE LITERALLY HAD THAT FOR 5 YEARS) and restoring them to their full color over time. It could be a perfect tie-in if we were having a memory thing going on, or a path of self-discovery.
Obviously the other connection to coral bleaching and its causes is the extinction of humans. Humans caused global warming, rising sea levels wiped them out, humans caused pollution... both of those things would cause coral bleaching and we can pretty much assume that humanity, or the fall of humanity rather, will be linked to this story somehow. Nuclear pollution was even one thing pointed out in the images (the weird black tall spike things), and nuclear war is something that VERY MUCH ALSO HAPPENED in the Splatoon timeline, prior to humanity going extinct. For the record, I have no idea how Agent 8′s mindscape, bleached coral, a mysterious elevator tower and humanity’s extinction and nuclear war are going to tie into a story together, but I’m interested to see it anyway.
Also, fossils and oil. I think it’s extremely likely that we’re looking at the skeleton of a whale in one of the images. Whales have been in a surprisingly big role in Splatoon despite being supposedly extinct and not having been outright talked about a whole lot. We see they’re still in big use culturally, and Inklings likely find them extremely fascinating: we’ve seen whale bones as a centerpiece at Shellendorf Institute and whale falls are present in Octo Expansion’s domes. Of course, we don’t have confirmation that the stuff in the concept art is oil rather than black ink (you do play with black ink, after all) but it would fall in line with the appearance of what seems to be a fossil and the theme of pollution.
Uh, also Pearl and Marina are there. It seems like at least Pearl might be helping you out in Side Order, given that there is that shot of her looking down on you in the square (?), which to me is pretty similar to the opening shot of Octo Expansion with Cuttlefish looking down to you. As for Marina, there’s not a whole lot of thoughts or information. The only notable thing I can really say about Marina’s art is that there might be a significance to the digital pixels around her. Possibly unrelatedly but maybe not, sanitized Octarians in Octo Expansion also spawned in (and out) through pixels. Not the same kind of pixels, but it was a thing that very much happened. Also Tartar might be there but that’s extremely heavy speculation so not going to say more about it.
In terms of gameplay we have nothing, pretty much. I’m equal parts worried and excited by what the gameplay could potentially be. ALL WE HAVE for game footage about Side Order is the hub world, which is Inkopolis Square except they turned the Object Materials off. All I have to say about that is... i really, REALLY HOPE that the square isn’t all or the majority of walkable area in the DLC. It would be akin to the Deepsea Metro Central Station in OE... except OE had a separate tutorial and the metro and central station were brand new areas. If the Square is all or most that there is, not only is it visually bland as hell, BUT IT’S LITERALLY REUSED CONTENT THAT WE ALREADY HAD and tells us nothing lol.
Gameplay predictions. I have no idea! The best clues we have are that yes, you have some kind of Splattershot, and yes there’s an elevator. My guess is that the elevator either takes you to stages like the Metro did, or... my other better guess is that it would take you to completely different hub worlds or larger levels. Something like that; I would love to play something that’s not just soulless platforming levels over and over again for some arbitrary goal. Even just bigger segments in-between those levels would be really cool.
Oh and I am 90% sure that we’re getting Octarian enemies again. We’ve pretty much only seen concept art of the DLC at this point in time, but given that we’re in Inkopolis and Pearl and Marina are there and Agent 8 is there, I don’t see them making a whole new slew of enemy species and types just for the Probably Not Even Real DLC side story. It’s going to be white octarians or something. I’ll be extremely surprised if not lol... with how little they had to show, I have to assume that very little of the DLC is actually done, and with how rushed Splatoon 3 seemed to be at launch I don’t have a lot of hope that there’s some kind of massive open-world extra game they’re hiding from us. Even some of the functionalities we were promised at and before the game’s launch aren’t out or even talked about yet (Online Tableturf, the jukebox is in the game but also isn’t, the keyword matchmaking we still haven’t gotten)....
Overall thoughts on Side Order. I’m interested to see what it’s going to be about and I’m very interested about the lore it looks like it might give us. On the other hand, I find it extremely underwhelming so far, just for my personal reasons of wanting to see campaigns that take part in the actual RELEVANT WORLD. Splatoon has a really bad case of telling instead of showing. I want to play through story campaigns that take place in the world instead of completely secluded abstract areas with stories that aren’t really that relevant most of the time. I want stories that are smaller in scale and importance and more focused on the everyday life and characters that the game has to offer! The world has endless possibilities for side stories like that, ones that take place in The World in the current time and help with immersion and bringing out the personality of Splatoon. And I really wish we had those instead...
Overall thoughts on the DLC? Well we don’t have it yet and we don’t know what’s going to be in it yet other than a hub reskin and an extremely non-telling teaser trailer that was 98% concept art. I’m not really excited about it to be honest, I’m feeling a lot of similar things I was feeling with RotM... as in it’s probably going to be really cool or fun, but completely miss the mark on what i actually want out of a Splatoon story. I’m more interested in the potential of there being 2 more waves afterwards because of course, the unknown is always endlessly more exciting and fascinating than something you know about if only briefly. I’m holding out hope for playable cuttlefish in a later wave (solely because it seems like it SHOULD happen, even with no prior story foreshadowing).
But of course there’s no saying that Waves 3 and 4 will be anything substantial, given that a Wave can literally be as little as just a reskin of the main hub with no actual new content. We could get Waves 3 and 4 as just cosmetic stuff, or random side content (Squid Beatz 3...?)... and of course there’s no guarantee that we’re getting Waves 3 and 4 at all! It’s wishful thinking based on very little (but likely) evidence. But hey, that’s my thoughts on the DLC!
