i hate when people try to defend ai art with “but i want to be able to make pretty pictures like you guys!!” ok grab a canvas go to youtube and watch bob ross. grab some pencils buy a sketchbook and a beginners drawing book and learn like the rest of us. we didn’t spend years honing our craft just so you could plug it into a machine that spits out a poor mimicry in .2 seconds so that you could feel like you made something you didn’t work for

so uh. according to this thread its very possible that Level-5 is using ai art. thats fucking fantastic. thanks guys. definitely not a spit in the face to your fans who've loved you for years for your unique art direction. no. not at all :) /VERY SAR

it doesn't matter if they're "just using it for concept art" or whatever. they're still using it and its fucking gross. As a Yo-Kai Watch fan of almost 10 years now, I am truly disgusted. I hope they recall this decision and go back to using exclusively real artists, or they'll lose a lot of fans (including myself, which would break my heart. I love Level-5 games to death.)

I'm still most likely going to buy Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Decapolice when they come out, because most likely if the use of AI in scriptwriting/sidequests is real those will be rewritten in the English localization by actual people. Still doesn't change the concept art thing but i've been hyped for these games for too long to let that ruin it. If it goes any further than that tho, i'm probably going to tap out. Which sucks so much.

This is lazy at best and downright harmful to real artists at worst.

Because that seems to be the popular consensus, and honestly that sounds about right

The strikes were going on, studios did say they would start using AI, and Disney definitely would pull something like this

on one hand, nobody is entitled to ai generated art because their disability prevents them from making it, because As It Stands Now, ai models are built off stolen artwork. there is not a SINGLE (publicly available at least) ai model trained off art that was willingly given to the model by the artist, and using the current models only helps exasperate this problem

on the other hand going "well i/this famous artist was disabled and THEY figured out how to make art, so its condescending to say that some disabled people CANT make art, and if ur disabled just figure it out :)" is the kind of rhetoric that time and time again hurts disabled people wrt the "well if THEY can do it, so can YOU" false dichotomy and really should not be used to make your point

& i say this as a disabled artist who absolutely does not like ai art, ESPECIALLY used in a commercial sphere. on paper it would be a fun Fucking Around Machine (esp if there was a bot trained on consentually aquired art) but capitalism requires every last scrap of revenue be squeezed out of anything like blood from a stone so we cant just have a fun thing to have a fun thing and we have shit things like it being a threat to peoples' liveliehoods and training it to mimic dead artists. and we cant really have the fun part without feeding into the bad part. what im saying is its a shame also maybe bootstrap theory is not good

#i will say i know of TWO really cool applications of ai generated stuff #1) before fhe whole ai thing took off an indie artist got an ai thing to generate some song lyrics #they then took the lyrics and played around w em #and made music around it and used a vocaloid to sing it #2) dude trained an ai model on his own art (makeup for ball jointed dolls) and got it to generate some faces #then painted his interpertation of its interpertation of his work #commentating on how the machine interperted parts of his dtyle #they both work imo bcos theres a very human aspect to it still #wrt the making of the whole resr of the song and the making of all the faces given to the model #and the painting of the genersted one #anyway this is what i thinj on the matter #ai art sucks dont use it. ive been tempted but i havent #but also that argument you hate suddenly doesnt become valid when yr the one weilding it

the other thing that is, or rather could have been, very fun about AI art is the "in the style of" thing. when you type an artist's name, you get to see the defining qualities of that artist's work. you're basically putting everything they've ever done in a blender and seeing what colour it goes. typing "in the style of aubrey beardsley" gives you flowing black lines, bulbous shapes and vaguely art nouveau patterns; "klimt" generates images in gold and green, with pale-faced women and lots of intricate chequered detailing; "kusama" gives you polka dots, obviously, while "mondrian" gives you rectangles. it's neat! it's a cool feature!

...except the other day i saw a guy quizzing an artist on twitter, and it transpired he was trying to figure out what keywords he should input in order to accurately replicate her style using AI. so, lol.

#there's something weird but interesting about putting in an artist's name and getting back a picture which #is not by that artist #but LOOKS like it is #it's usually not a good picture. and if i looked at it for more than a few seconds i'd know it's not an edmund dulac or an egon schiele.#but there's still that confused instant of 'where have i seen that before'#and while that's cool i think it really does emphasise the fact that AI art is all about aesthetics #there's no brain behind it. you can't teach it to think in terms of themes or narratives or symbolism #it makes things that look pretty and that's all it can do
