My Idol 3: Part Thirteen
Tumblr media
My Idol from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My Idol is a South Korean competitive reality dating game show. It currently airs on Saturday nights on Jae-bummer’s blog. First broadcast in 2016, the show offers the opportunity for a lucky fan to go on seven blind dates with seven idols. The idol plans the date with the show throwing in a specific mission to complete during the day. At the end of the initial dates, the show opens up an audience vote to decide what four idols will move on to the second date.
My Idol 3: The Series
"Go back a few seconds," Chan instructed, the tip of his tongue at the corner of his lips while he concentrated.
You dutifully scrolled back on the Youtube video he had pulled up.
"Okay, pause it," he hummed, narrowing his eyes at the tank that had been provided by the staff. "What does he mean 'make sure the filter is correctly positioned?' He didn't even tell us what the correct position was."
"It looks like he has it stuck in the corner," you said, pointing to the small, phone screen.
"Great catch," he grinned at you, sarcasm apparent in his tone.
"Glad you think I am," you smiled, batting your lashes.
He chuckled to himself before turning back to the task at hand. "Do you have the water conditioner?"
"Right here," you sang, handing him a bottle marked as such.
"Okay, so we put this stuff in here," he muttered, more to himself than to you. "And then in a few days, it should be safe to put little buddy in there."
"Speaking of little buddy," you said, backing up until your knees hit the bed behind you. Flopping unceremoniously onto the mattress, you asked, "What are we naming him?"
"Jinki the Second, obviously," Chan exclaimed. "Seeing how Jinki Senior was taken from us much too soon."
"If he was Jinki Senior, wouldn't this be Jinki Junior?"
"Is that how that works?" Chan asked. Moving toward the bed, he fell backwards alongside you. Both staring at the ceiling, he said quietly, "I like Junior."
"Then we'll call him Junior," you said, just as quietly.
It was nice being here with him like this. You had been given the illusion of privacy, but if you looked toward the door, you would see it propped open with a chair Insu was now occupying. He was trying to pay attention to some documents Hyuk had passed off, but you noticed he had been failing to do so. He hadn't flipped a page in quite some time.
Turning his face towards yours, Chan gave you a breathtakingly sincere smile. "Thanks for going out with me today."
"Responding with "I didn't have much of a choice" wouldn't be very romantic, would it?" you teased.
There was that smile again. "Sometimes the truth isn't romantic, I guess."
"I'm glad it was you today," you admitted, turning your face back toward the ceiling. It was much easier to look at it than him.
"Mmm?" he hummed. "Why's that?"
You paused a moment, unsure of how to completely encapsulate the amount of fun you had on this date. "I just am."
"Profound," he laughed. Rolling on his side, he propped himself up on an elbow before using his free hand to poke your rib cage. You let out a surprised squeak, your eyes wide with alarm as you turned to him. He lifted his brows at your reaction before his expression slowly transformed into one much more mischievous. "Are you ticklish?"
Wiggling his fingers toward you, his giggling became much more maniacal. "You are, aren't you!"
Turning over to face him now, you held firmly onto his wrists. "Christopher Bang, so help me, I will scream bloody murder."
"Oooh, you brought out my English name," he laughed, instantly giving up. Pulling his hands from yours, he leaned back to face the ceiling again."You mean business."
"Damn right I do," you muttered, rolling over as well.
Laying as still as possible beside Chan, your breath caught as you felt one of his fingers wrap softly around yours. It was hard to hide the smile on your face. It may be selfish, but you wanted more days like this.
A light knock hit the door, causing both of you to sit up with impressive speed.
Insu smiled grimly. "Sorry, time to break it up."
"You don't have to apologize," Chan said, shaking his head. "I think you've bent the rules enough for me tonight."
Insu nodded before facing away again. You hated the look in his eyes.
"Well," Chan sighed, pulling himself up. Standing in front of you, he wrapped his arms around your shoulders, pulling you into his rock hard stomach. Rocking playfully from side to side he cooed, "I know the next time we meet won't be so fun, but I'm optimistic about the meetings after that."
"Assuming you get them."
"Always the optimist," he chuckled before moving away. He gave you another small smile before booping you on the nose. "Have a good night, Y/N."
"You too, Christopher."
Grinning fiendishly, he backed away from you and toward the door. "Be careful, I like it when you say my name like I'm in trouble."
Your jaw popped open in surprise. You never expected his one liners.
Turning himself toward Insu, he gave a short bow. "Thanks again."
In your Chan-induced haze, you stood up, wandering over to Junior. This whole thing was a mess. How could you possibly have feelings for so many people at once? When you binged dating shows in the past, you could never understand why the bachelor had such a hard time. Now that you were in the middle of a similar situation, the reality hit you like a brick wall. You cared about six individuals, wholeheartedly. Seven if you counted the man who was guarding your door.
Looking up from the fish tank, you jumped. Insu had taken up post in the door frame, leaning in to watch your newest pet swim around in his expanded home.
"I like that one," he said quietly, a sad smile gracing his lips.
"You never met the first one," you laughed, plopping onto the bed, and staring back at him.
"No," he hummed thoughtfully. "The guy."
"Chan?" you asked, lifting your brows.
Insu nodded absently before entering the room. Squatting so he was eye level with the fish tank, he sat his forearms on the table, and his chin on top of them.
You opened your mouth, only to close it again. This was not the expected outcome of Insu running into Chan. "What makes you like him?"
"Good vibe," he murmured, his eyes not leaving the fish. "Very genuine. Respects you and what you've lost. Seems like he would protect you whenever I'm..."
You stood up, crossing the room to where Insu was sitting. Hovering your hand over his head, you knew it was a bad idea before you even did it. Nonetheless, you decided to run your fingers through his hair.
Pulling your hand away, Insu waited a breath before he looked up at you. "Sorry, sometimes I forget that this isn't a full time gig."
"Nothing says we can't be friends after this," you sighed, sitting on the floor beside him.
"I'm sure your boyfriend wouldn't feel threatened at all," Insu smirked, the first genuine smile he had given in days.
"If whoever I end up with doesn't condone me hanging out with a friend, I think we'll have much bigger issues," you muttered, pulling your legs to your chest.
"Korean men are very protective over what they consider theirs-"
"I'm no one's property," you bit back.
"I'm not insinuating that you are," he sighed. "I'm just letting you know that things can get complicated."
"That's an ongoing theme with you," you grinned, shouldering him playfully.
Falling back onto his butt, Insu leaned into you and sighed again. "You're almost done with the first round. How are you feeling?"
"It may sound like a cop out, but I'm actually relieved not to make the decision of who will continue on," you admitted. "I don't know if I'd be able to choose."
"Never thought I'd hear you say that," he chuckled.
"Don't get me wrong," you explained. "It is a kind of a helpless feeling. It's a double edged sword. I don't have control over this particular part of my future, but at the end of the day, do I really want it?"
"That's fair," he nodded. "It's a lot of pressure."
You nodded as well, focusing on the movements of Sea Jinki Junior. If you were forced to choose, did you have an order of preference in the men you had dated? Could you rank them and cut the ones at the bottom?
There had been Jungkook who you had hit it off with instantly. After getting over the speed bump that was Min Yoongi, opening the show with him was one of the greatest adventures you had undertaken. You felt like you had scheduled a meetup with your childhood best friend and developed feelings along the way. He was someone you were certain you could grow with. Your stomach flipped at the thought of experiencing life with him and watching the excitement light in his eyes every time the two of you faced a new discovery.
Hongseok ushered in your second date and you couldn't be more grateful. He had no problem keeping you on your toes and a blush bright on your cheeks. You had never been flirted with so aggressively before and you lived for every second of it. The feeling he inspired in your chest was fluttery and magnificent. Even when things turned a dark corner, he knew exactly what to do to help take care of you. Without him there as a pillar to lean on, you're not sure how you would've handled your break in.
Who could forget those gentle moments you shared with San? It was refreshing seeing someone who was just as shy as you, and even more so, someone who was a hopeless romantic. You hadn't expected it out of him, but first impressions can be deceiving. He was hard edges and feline angles, but his heart was so pure. He was willing to take the lead on your challenge and tried his hardest to keep you calm even when things went terribly wrong. Without a scratch on you, he comforted you as if you were the one wrapped in bandages, not himself. You would be lying if you said you didn't want to be his dubu for the foreseeable future.
Jackson was a flame that ignited things you hadn't touched in some time. Just the idea of him was intoxicating. He was joy incarnate, but when that mood turned to something more steamy, you almost risked it all in front of an entire audience. He had been so raw with you, so characteristically him, that you couldn't think about leaving him behind for a second. He exploded into your life like a firework, and even now, you craved the type of attention he had given you.
Hyungwon had taken your breath away. The moment he pulled off his helmet and strolled into your life, you were done for. While every man you had met so far was crushingly attractive, he had been carved by an artist's hand. There was no way to properly explain the curve of his lips or the cuts of his eyes. You would expect someone so gorgeous to be absolutely put together in every way, but it was grounding to see him awkward with you. His personality was endearing and easy to fall for. Plus the feeling of being wrapped around him on the back of his motorcycle? Unparalleled.
Chan was one of the greatest comforts you had ever found in a person. Your chemistry was instant. When you didn't have cartoon heart eyes, you were so busy smiling and laughing that you had both forgotten there was even a challenge during your date. At first, it was difficult to pin him down, but you quickly learned that he was a champ at second guessing himself. While he projected confidence, deep down you could see the embers of self-consciousness. You hoped you had calmed that part of him during the short time you spent together.
Now you still had a mystery man to contend with.
And at the back of your mind, there still lived Insu, whether you tried to shut him out or not. Beautiful, broken, protective, infuriating, Insu. He was the antithesis of just about every man you had dated, but that wasn't a bad thing. He had held you in some of your most fragile moments and had been the one to irk you like no other. You spent more time with him and Hyuk than anyone else, and it wasn't fair to any of your potential suitors. Maybe it was a touch of Stockholm syndrome, but he allowed you to hold a piece of his heart. You just weren't sure what to do with it.
"Earth to Y/N," Insu grumbled, his voice suddenly above you.
You blinked a few times before shaking your head and looking towards him. Offering a hand, he pulled you up from the carpet and smiled softly. "You okay in there?"
"Never better," you croaked, still reeling from the journey your thoughts had taken you on.
"Get some rest," he nodded, patting you lightly on the shoulder. "Tomorrow, you get to do this all over again."
"But for the last time," you breathed. It would be these seven from here on out.
Who would the audience choose?
.
Yanking at the fabric of your outfit, you tried to shimmy around until the garment was more comfortable. You were dressed in relatively uncomfortable cocktail attire, much like you had been shoved into for your date with Jackson.
"Did an ant crawl up your leg?" Insu chuckled as he escorted you into the darkened restaurant the My Idol SUV had pulled up to only moments ago.
"I'm itchy," you muttered, readjusting again. "Not insect related."
"You sure it's not nerves?" he asked, holding open another door.
"Nerves? Don't know her," you muttered, furrowing your brow as you looked around. The restaurant was nearly pitch black. One small light illuminated the host stand directly in front of you.
"Good evening," the hostess nodded, an easy smile on her face. "You must be Y/N."
"I must be," you smiled in return.
"Welcome to our establishment, Y/N," the hostess continued. "May I introduce you to your date this evening?"
You gave a small nod, expecting for someone to emerge from the dim. After a few moments of nothing happening, you parted your lips, trying to ask just what exactly was going on.
Before the words could form, several lights were switched on in the dining room of the restaurant, bathing everything in a calming, low light.
You weren't sure if the sudden exposure to your surroundings answered your question or caused more.
In front of you, there were a dozen or so tables with extraordinarily handsome men sat at each one. Feeling like a fish that had just been caught and pulled to shore, you openly gaped at each one in turn.
Clearing her throat, the hostess brought your attention back to her. You tried to verbalize a question again, but fell short as she pulled out a covered dish.
"Y/N," she beckoned. Lifting the lid, your jaw dropped as you saw the contents of the plate.
A ruby red envelope.
"A mission?" you croaked. "Before we've even started?"
Extending the plate closer to you, the hostess nodded. Taking the envelope gingerly between your fingers, you were hesitant to slide your pointer under the lip of the paper. Looking up again, your eyes wandered around the dining room, completely overwhelmed.
"It's okay!" one of the men called from his spot toward the front of the room. He was a brunette with a distinct nose and an eye smile that made his pupils disappear entirely. "Take your time!"
From his tone, you knew he didn't mean it sarcastically.
"Don't let us make you nervous!" Another boy called out. His hair was sandy and he had adorably plump cheeks. His eyes were expressive as they locked on yours. "We can wait as long as you need."
Taking a deep breath, you looked down at the envelope again. Gathering your courage, you ripped it open and read the card inside.
"Say the name, Seventeen! Speed date through this super group and take a guess at which member will be the seventh contestant. You'll have three chances to choose, so use them wisely! If you pick the incorrect member, you will immediately incur the penalty."
Your eyes darted forward, flying from face to face as you took the information in.
You could hear the hostess beside you clear her throat again. Looking to her helplessly, she gave you yet another useless smile. "Happy dating!"

We are married now! ( 2019! Slaxl)
A/N: Here’s the sequel to this oneshot about Slash proposing to Axl. Because let’s be honest, current Slaxl deserves love too!
Tumblr media
1992
Slash was smoking a cigarette, absently looking in the distance. They finally had a break from shooting, so he sat on the stairs of the church, frustration and tiredness rising in his chest.
He was so annoyed by Axl’s perfectionism, and by the whole storyline of that freaking music video. They were a rock band, they came from the streets, they were supposed to represent that, not filming about a love story and a wedding in a church in the middle of a desert!
But what irritated Slash the most was that he had to marry her!  He had to stand to watch Axl and that girl kissing over and over, watching her walking down the aisle and seeing the smile on his singer’s face. Even if he didn’t want to admit it, he knew he was supposed to be the one looking at the redhead like that, he should have felt Axl’s lips on his, held his hand or call him his husband.
Slash was the one to deal with the other man’s mood swing, he was the one taking care of him when he couldn’t get out of the bed, he comforted him after a nightmare, or made him feel safe whenever they were in Indiana.
Usually he wasn’t bother by things, but all of that really was testing his calm. Because deep down, he knew he was in love with Axl.
He was in love with Axl fucking Rose!
“Can I have one?” His singer’s deep voice said, sitting next to him.
Slash handing him one, not even looking him in the eyes.
“Are you angry Slash?” The redhead asked.
“No, I’m not.” The guitarist answered with a neutral tone.
“Oh fuck you Saul, I know you! I can see when you’re angry.”
“Yes, I’m fucking annoyed, okay?! You know how I feel about music videos. Plus we are a rock band, born from the streets and we are shooting a video in a stupid church in the desert.” Slash didn’t sound pissed, just tired and indifferent, or at least he tried to look like that.
Axl took a drag from his cigarette, then he looked the curly man into the eyes.
“It’s not just about that. I know that you hate music videos but you never behaved like an angsty teen!”
Saul laughed dryly, moving his hair out of his face, so Axl could see him better.
“I hate her. I freaking hate that backstabber witch so much. But most of all I hate the fact that she has to be the bride, that she is the one to kiss you!” He admitted, biting his lip.
The redhead seemed surprised by his confession,  but happy at the same time.
“It is about you, do you know that? November Rain is about you, I wrote it thinking about you. Not about Stephanie or Erin or any other girl.”
Now it was Slash’s turn to look surprised and confused.
“Bullshit! Then why is she here? Why you look like a freaking puppy around her?” He replied, bitterly.
Axl took a big breath, clenching his fists. Slash thought he was about to hit him or scream, but the other talked in a quiet tone, surprisingly.
“If I could I’d let you be the one. Fuck… if I could I’d marry you! You know what? I’m going to marry you, one day I’m going to fucking take you to the aisle, Saul Hudson! You’ll be my husband.
Slash felt a warm sensation in his heart, however his thoughts quickly water it down. He knew that Axl was still scared, still ashamed of liking him, he knew how he was still tormented by his religious past. He would have never
his hand in public or kissed him, and certainly he would have never married him.
He didn’t matter how many times he could have said “I love you” after sex, it was not possible for them to be together. Did he even really love him? So he just laughed.
“Well I hope you can manage to do that before 2020!” He said sarcastically, stomping on his cigarette, then walking away.
But before he could, Axl grabbed his wrist.
“I know it’s not a real one, but that’s my promise!” He stated firmly, he took a ring from his pocket and put it on Slash’s finger, the one he used in the wedding scene.
The guitarist gave in and brushed his lips against Axl’s, but then he walked away with a sad smile.
A part of him really hoped, that the other keep his promise.
2019
Slash was playing with the same ring Axl gave him years ago. He kept it with him after all this time, even when they hated each other or so they have thought.
Usually he was hardly nervous, but today he felt on the edge, probably the fact that he was about to marry the man of his life didn’t help.  But it was so useless to get worried : Axl loved him, most of the fans were supportive and even his two kids, London and Cash, were more than happy to have also “Papa Axl” with them!
Duff was his best man, and like the old times, he seemed to know the exact moment he needed to comfort somebody. He got in the room, and put his hands on Slash’s shoulder, feeling the other man tension.
“What’s wrong buddy? And don’t lie to me, I know you too well!”
“What if everything will go wrong, after we get married? Slash answered, still playing with his ring.
“Why should that happen? You both wanted to get married, and even your kids agree!” Duff said, calmly.
“Maybe I can’t be in a marriage? I’ve been in two and everything went to shit!”
“Yeah but your last one lasted 20 years! The point is that you two always loved each other, you probably wanted to do this since the early days! I know your brain is making you think shit but that’s not the truth!” Duff said firmly. “ Now just breathe and think about all the sappy things you two can do, as soon as you become husbands.” He added with a smile.
“We both want that and he loves me, everything will be okay. God, I bet Axl is so chill about this, while I’m the one freaking out this time!” Saul said with a laugh, ready to drive to their wedding location.
---
Axl was totally not chill. He was pacing the room, he felt anxious and worried, biting his lips.
“C’mon Ax, you’re being unreasonable right now. He proposed you! How couldn’t he want to be your husband?!” Izzy stated, sounding a bit annoyed.
Yes, Axl asked Izzy Stradlin to be his best man. Time passed and they were on good terms, at least enough to make Izzy accept to do this.
“What if it doesn’t work out? Fuck we haven’t spoken to each other for decades! We’ve been together for only three and a half years, what if it is too early?” The redhead shoot back.
Izzy sighed, rubbing his temples. Axl may have changed but some things about him didn’t.
“Look at me! You love him and he loves you, he proposed to you because he wanted you as his husband. He talked about you all the time, he was such a pain in the ass and we both know how your man is, if he doesn’t want to do something he won’t do it first!” The black haired man said, holding Axl’s shoulders steadily.
“Are you sure?”
“Fuck, yes Axl I’m sure! He came all the time in my hotel rooms, drunk as fuck, talking about how you were an asshole but also perfect and how we wanted you so bad! Now stop freaking out or I’ll call Beta.” He smiled and the redhead relaxed a bit.
“ It’s better if we go, because I don’t want to show up late this time too! And also because if I show up late, Slash I’ll say I’m the bride!” Axl said with a laugh.
---
Axl didn’t arrive late, however Slash was already there.
He stopped a moment to look at the beautiful  garden where they choose to marry, surrounded by red roses bushes, who made everything cheesy as fuck, but Axl loved it nonetheless. It was simply but also eccentric, just like him and Slash.
Then his eyes were fixed on his soon-to-be husband talking to Duff :he looked so good with his wild curls and his half open shirt, a little smile on his face and the ring he gave him years ago around his neck. They decided to use a replica of that as their wedding rings, because the redhead was that sentimental!
Somebody had to say something about the groom being there, because Slash turned around and he spotted Axl, his mouth slightly open and his eyes full of joy.
“You look stunning, my love. I really dig this suit!” He said smiling widely, eyes full of love.
“ I was very tempted to put on the same suit I had on during “November Rain” but unfortunately it doesn’t fit me anymore.” The other man replied, blushing and with a sad smile.
He was very self-conscious about his appearance, considering that Slash was still so fit and sexy to him. However his boyfriend wouldn’t never let Axl’s insecurities eat the man he loved.
“I like you better this way and if I wasn’t about to get married, I’d ask your number!” He joked with a smirk.
“You’re the same idiot I fell in love with. And your ass is still as great as it was in the 80s!” Axl whispered the last part, making Slash hiding behind his hair for a split second.
“Maybe we should go, or post marriage sex will become pre marriage sex!” The curly man grabbed his hand and led his almost husband  to the justice of the peace.
There were not many people, just their closest friends ( including Steven you was more than happy to join) and families. It was strange for two rock stars to save such a modest wedding, but they didn’t care, they just wanted it to celebrate their love with the people who accepted them.
“We are here today to celebrate the union of Axl and Saul, two men who decided to consolidate their love through marriage. Now you shall say your votes.” The judge said.
Axl stared it, taking a deep breath.
“I don’t think many of you know this but I promise to Slash that we would be married. It was 1992 and we were filming November Rain, and he was upset because he loved me too much to see him with another person. Little did he know that I was also totally in love with him, and if I could I was ready  to marry him right on the spot, and actually I said it to him but he was very stubborn that day, so he left me standing in the desert. Now almost 30 years later, he asked me to get married, with the same song I dedicated to him. Saul Hudson, you’re the love of my life. I’ve never been so happy until we got reunited and you decided to stay, you show me what a happy life was, you loved me with all my flaws, you never judged me but you were always there to help me. Sure we did some very stupid things back then, but I’d want nothing more than just be your husband and be at your side, in health and sickness and all that bullshit! Because me and you can’t be apart even if we want to!”
The redhead was trying his best to not cry, and honestly Slash started to have some difficulties with that too. He looked at Axl’s beautiful eyes and smiled softly.
“I thought that I wanted to marry you when I saw your smile during our concert in Austin, but that’s not the truth. Maybe I’ve always wanted it, or maybe when I saw you in that pirate style jacket, my heart went “marry him” while my head was “ he kind of looks like a douche bag”, but still I’ve dreamt this day for a while. People always think that I’m the one who saved you, that I tamed the angry and crazy beast named Axl Rose, but that’s not true. Axl Rose saved me too, he showed me how it was wonderful to be loved, because I didn’t know what love or happiness really was, until I met him, and not a single drug in the world can give me what my boyfriend gives me! So yeah, I will love you too in health and sickness, even if you don’t like much my snakes!”
Slash tried to laugh but he really felt the emotions taking the best of him, especially when he laid his eyes on the crying redhead in front of him.
“You can exchange your rings!”
Saul took Axl’s hand in his, and gently he put the ring on, a simple one but full of meaning for them. The other man did the same, kissing his future partner in life.
“By the authority vested in me by the State of California, I pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss!” The judge said with a smile.
Slash’s lips softly smashed on Axl’s one, as all the crowd erupted in a round of applause. But for the both of them time seemed to stop, what mattered was only the feeling of their lips linked and their hearts joined.
“You’re my husband, you are really my husband!” The curly guitarist said smiling.
“Told you I’d make it before 2020. You didn’t believe me, but I could never let you go away from me. Maybe for 20 years you did, but now we are tied!” Axl joked, but then he got serious again. “ Thank you so much for being the love of my life, Saul Hudson.”
“Thank you for have let me be the one, Axl Rose.”
---
In the big ballroom where they would eat, cut the cake and do their first dance, friends and family were already sitting down, talking happily to each other.
The married couple finally arrived, and they find Steven, Izzy and Duff talking at their table. Beta and part of his family was there too, along with Slash’s kids, while the rest of the current band sat at a near table.
“Yeah man, he was a pain in the ass. He was constantly talking about him when he was drunk, always saying that he hated him but he couldn’t stop loving him!” Izzy explained to Duff.
“Yeah, well also Slash was like that. He would complain that he didn’t understand him, that  he was a fucking psycho but he loved him and he would make him go crazy, one day!” Duff replied, rolling his eyes.
“Hey, fuck you Duff, that was supposed to be a secret!” Slash shoot back, annoyed.
“No no, I want to know. I was always so oblivious until 91!” Steven said, very excited.
Axl laughed, then he felt somebody getting closer to him.
“You know at first I wanted to punch him in the face, but now I can see how much you love each other. But if he breaks your heart, I’m going to really hurt him!” Beta said firmly, and Axl couldn’t help but smile at her over the protectiveness of his adoptive mom.
---
The light were turned a bit down, and the familiar notes of “Love of my life” by Queen started playing.
Slash took Axl’s hand in his and led him in the center of the dance floor.
“Are you nervous, my love?” Saul asked, surprised.
“I think this is the first ever slow dance we two had together” He answered nervously.
“Wrong. ’88 in that weird hotel in Florida, we danced in your room listening to the radio.”
“ I was drunk and you were high and we fell on the floor before we could finish the song!”
Slash laughed and brought his husband closer to him, so that the redhead could rest his head on his shoulder.
“I know you love Queen and we like this song, but why you have chosen this one?” The guitarist was curious, he knew that November Rain was not their song to dance, it was for the more intimate and important moment, when they needed to tell the other how much they loved them, like he did during his proposal.
“Sweet Child O’Mine was not an option, one because you hate the riff and two because it was not about you. Like well maybe it was a bit about you, but still it was not our song, while this one used to be the one that would make me think about you all the time!” The singer confessed, playing with the other man’s curls.
Slash led him, even made him spin a bit, then he gulped and looked him into the eyes.
“When I thought I had four weeks left of living, I left you a letter at the bottom of your door. I begged Izzy to tell me where you lived and I left it there, I thought that I was dying and I wanted you to read the letter where I explained everything, but then the next morning I took it away.” Slash blurted out nervously, feeling vulnerable and exposed.
“I read it, I read it and I thought it was a joke, that it was not true. I cried and almost smashed something and put it outside. Then the next morning I read the news and I understand it was true, you were dying and that letter was yours, but it was already gone. Fuck we are such two idiots!” Axl laughed but he also started crying.
Slash quickly wiped his tears, hugging him tightly.
“Shhh don’t cry baby. It’s okay, it’s a happy day!” He soothed him.
“You could have been gone, and I was suck a prick. You could have died and I was too resentful to give you a proper goodbye! You loved me even if I was broken and I did that!” He cried.
“Shhh babe, I’m here and I’m not gone. And it’s okay, I was a prick too, but what matters is that we are together and married. You were not broken baby and you deserve my love!” Saul kissed him, feeling his eyes tearing up a bit, too.
It was a slow and passionate kiss, all their love, passion and insecurities were in it. They held it for a while, before they started noticing people coming to the dance floor.
“You two are so in love, it is almost sickening!” Duff stated with a laugh.
“Leave them alone Duffy, they are so cute!” Steven chimed in.
“Thank you so much for coming here guys, this mean a lot to me, to us.” Axl said, squeezing Slash’s hand.
“Don’t get all sappy on us, Rosie. But yeah we love you too, and I think you guys should cut the cake now.” Izzy observed, pushing them lightly.
---
When they finally arrived at their home, they were tired as hell much so much happy.
“Well, this is our wedding night…” Slash started, laying on the bed.
“And?” Axl knew exactly where his husband was going, but he wanted to tease him a bit. Also, he was trying to feel less insecure about his body.
“Oh c’mon Rosie, you know what happens on the first wedding night! And before you even think about it, you’re so fucking hot in that suit, that I feel almost bad to want to take it off. Almost.
The redhead smiled, and got on top of the guitarist.
“Let’s do something before you fall asleep, Mr.Rose!” Axl teased, taking off his shirt.
“But you have to promise that you’ll be quiet, Mr. Hudson!” Slash shoot back with a laugh.
Married life never felt better for both men.

The Curse of Class 1-F Chapter 3
"I can't believe our teacher made us write another ten-page letter of reflection."
"We do have a bad habit of getting lost in the mountains," said Tanaka.
"Next time I'm voting for the beach."
It was the weekend after the class trip, and they were comparing notes on their penalty homework. They were at Ohta's house, which Tanaka could now find mostly on his own. He had only texted Miyano twice for directions (and once for a reminder of what he was doing).
"Why do I have to write a paper?" asked Ohta. "It made sense last time, because we both got lost."
"We both got our lunches stolen by a pack of baby tanuki too," Tanaka added helpfully.
Ohta sighed. "At least they led the class to us."
"Only because you picked me up and started running up the mountain all of a sudden. That surprised me."
Ohta grunted his acknowledgment.
Tanaka cocked his head. "I forgot to ask: How did you know which way to go?"
"...I didn't."
Ohta didn't get embarrassed easily. He was regularly mistaken for a Yanki date-rapist, but he was blushing now. Tanaka patted Ohta's cheeks to gauge their temperature.
Ohta grabbed his wrists and lowered them to his knees. "You were talking a lot that day. More than usual. You said- Your pulse is so slow."
"I don't think I said that."
"No-" Ohta seemed to realize he was still holding Tanaka's wrists and let go. "Uh… I mean, you said- You said that… you were lying in the grass, and you said that… when you thought about never getting up again, it made you kind of sad."
"Isn't that a good thing?"
"You sounded surprised." Ohta wasn't blushing anymore, and Tanaka wished for it back. It was much cuter than his current expression. "I don't know why I- I just wanted to get you back to your normal life. I guess you... you scared me a little."
"Another bad habit."
Ohta's expression intensified, which did nothing for its cuteness. "That's not what I meant. I just… I just want you to be happy."
"Hmm." Tanaka cocked his head again. He kept going, until it was lolling on his shoulder. Ohta sighed and tucked his own shoulder underneath it instead. Maybe if all the blood rushed to his head, it would help Tanaka write his letter of reflection, but it couldn't be good for his spine. "I feel like we just did plenty of reflection."
"I'm not writing any of that in my letter," Ohta said firmly.
"No," Tanaka agreed. "It was about the wrong trip. We need to write about this one. I slept through most of it."
"Me too," said Ohta.
Tanaka looked up at him through his obscenely long eyelashes. "Shiraishi asked me to tell you she was very sorry for the non-consensual drug use."
"Don't say something so misleading." Ohta frowned. He had some trauma when it came to date rape accusations. "Anyway, Shiraishi already apologized to me. Twenty-three times."
"So what do we write?"
"What if we apologized? We could write apology letters to our teacher and each member of our class."
"That's more than ten pages Ohta," Tanaka said reproachfully.
"It's only a few words per page though."
"Okay," Tanaka agreed easily. "I was going to write a thank you note for Ki-chan anyway."
"Ki-chan?"
Tanaka shook his head, hair tickling Ohta's neck. "One of Shiraishi's friends. The one who found me."
"Oh, I should thank her too," said Ohta. "I didn't even know her name."
He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. A strand of hair escaped from his ponytail, and Tanaka reached up to re-tie it.
"I didn't know her name either," said Tanaka. "I asked Shiraishi when she had finished apologizing. Well, not exactly finished. It didn't seem like she was going to anytime soon."
Ohta had borrowed one of his sister's scrunchies again. It was purple, with little cupcakes. Tanaka held Ohta's hair in a loose fist and wrapped the scrunchie, once, twice, three times.
"Too tight?"
Ohta shook his head. "You know… I like Tanaka-kun for his heart too."
"Even though it goes so slow?" asked Tanaka.
"As long as it keeps going."

Ch.1 Ch.2
Here’s part three! I made a sketch of how I think the readers hero outfit looks if you wanna check it out. I can’t draw for shit so I’m sorry the picture sucks. Thanks for reading!
Tumblr media
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
The next morning wasn't any less exciting, as it seemed the media was finally taking action of AllMight's new teaching role. You saw many journalists one morning when you were trying to make your way onto the campus, and thankfully saw someone you knew.
"Bakugou! Wait up!" You shouted, jogging to walk side by side. He didn't really slow down, but he gave you a quick glance to let you know he at least sees you. He looked pretty grumpy so you didn't say anything else.
"Excuse me kid! Are you in AllMight's class?" A reporter lady with brown hair in a pantsuit cut you guys off, shoving a microphone straight into Bakugou's face. He was about to walk around, but she stayed firmly in front of him.
"Hey wait, aren't you that Sludge villain kid?" You saw Bakugou tense up, and it finally clicked. That kid was Bakugou. It had to be, the same spiky blond hair and explosions. You only saw it on the news and briefly heard your father talk about it, so you really didn't give it another thought when coming to school.
Although it looks as he really didn't want to remember, as his body went stiff and he glared at the lady.
"Walk away. Right now." She ignored him as he walked forward, instead cutting you off from walking with him.
"What about you girly, got any information your boyfriend here didn't want to share."
"My-my boyfriend?" You face flushed. People thought you guys were together?! You were just walking into school! What guys and girls couldn't be friends?
She held the mic close to you face, smirking at the flustered look. You wanted to walk around but she was staring you down, and after that comment you couldn't think clearly enough to move.
A hand grabbed your wrist and yanked you away from the stares, you glanced up and saw Bakugou dragging you away, his mouth set in a firm line at the reporters.
"You're all leeches, get out of here." You looked back and saw they went straight onto targeting someone else, poor Mr. Aizawa. At least he'll set them straight.
You were still being pulled along in his tight grip, you noticed that his hand almost felt cold compared to yours, even with his explosive quirk. Since your body temperature was higher than most due to the way you stored your light.
"Uh thanks Bakugou, you saved me from being trampled." You voice must've snapped him out of whatever daze he was in, because he dropped your wrist faster than you could blink.
"Shut up glitter bomb, you weren't moving fast enough and I wanted to make sure you didn't say some stupid shit." You laughed at his grouchy response, and walked side by side with him in silence till you reached the classroom.
You were surprised when he slowed down and let you walk in first. While he didn't do anything chivalrous and hold the door open, it was still thoughtful to let you go first. So you just thanked him and paid no mind to it, shuffling to your seat waiting for class to start.
When class finally did start, Mr. Aizawa began to congratulate you all on the combat training that occurred yesterday.
"I saw the video feeds and went over each teams results. Bakugou." Mr. Aizawa stared hard at him. You looked over, and couldn't see his face due to sitting behind him.
"You're talented, so don't sulk like a child about your loss okay." You heard him huff before looking towards the window, his face still hidden from view so you didn't know exactly how he felt.
"Yeah whatever."
"And Midoriya." Deku's body jolted in surprise, then you saw the nervous look from waiting to be chewed out.
"It seems you only won was by messing up your arm again. Work harder, and I don't want the excuse of you not having control of your quirk. It;s already getting old. You can't keep breaking your body training here."
"But, it will be a useful quirk once you get a handle on it." You saw Izuku shoot up with a smile, glad to have been praised, even if the tiniest bit. It was hard to receive praise from your teacher so you felt happy for him.
"Right!"
"Let's get down to business, our first task, will decide your future."
The whole class froze in anticipation. What could it be? Another type of quirk test?
"You all need to pick a class representative." You all sighed in relief, not knowing if you could handle another fight between classmates so soon.
The entire class went into an uproar about who should be the class officer.
"Pick me guys! I wanna be class rep!" Kirishima shouted while standing, you dragged him back in his chair while he grinned over at you.
"Sorry but I'm just so excited, it would be amazing from my transcripts!"
"Yea I get what you mean, my dad was the class officer his time here too. I'd like to follow in his footsteps!" You say back just as eagerly.
"Woah really, your dad went to U.A?"
Before you could answer you were cut off by Iida yelling about his method of choosing the class representative.
"Therefore, the most logical way to figure this out is democratically. We will hold an election!"
While some others protested, you agreed it was the best way to figure this out civilly.  With Aizawa's uncaring permission, you got to vote.
The scores were written up on the board, and you were surprised to see Midoriya had 3 whole votes.
"Wow Izuku, looks like you're the winner huh?" You gave him a smile. He looked shocked and was yelling about not knowing how he got the job.
"Okay you idiots! Who voted for him!" Bakugou stood up and glared around the classroom.
"Well (y/n), looks like you'll have to keep Midoriya in check! Sucks that you beat me again." Kirishima slapped your back playfully, even with a frown on his face.
"What are you.." You trailed off, looking at the board to see that you had came in the second spot with two votes.
"Holy crap who did that." You wondered out loud. Kirishima shoved you towards the front, and you found yourself standing next to a shaking Izuku, who had an ugly look on his face.
"Alright the class rep is Midoriya, and the deputy is Hakamata." You stood straight, steeling your nerves as you stared out at the sea of your peers. Izuku couldn't stop shaking so you nudged him and whispered,
"Hey calm down, you're going to be fine."
"Really? This isn't a mistake?" You sighed, putting a hand to your temple. Izuku was a good person, but you knew this was going to be a painful year.
You heard Kirishima yell from the back of the classroom he could get behind you and Midoriya as officers. As well as someone else agree you handled yourself really well during the training exercise.
Lunch rolled around as you sat next to Mina, waiting for the other guys to show up. You all seemed to form a little rag tag group.
"Oh bestie I'm so proud of you!" She gushed, even though you barely knew her she seemed attached to the hip to you. You couldn't be upset, because you actually really liked having a female friend, and she was very sweet to you.
"Thanks Mina, I hope I can make everyone proud. I can't wait to tell my dad about this position."
"I'm sure he'll be proud! There's no way he won't be!"
An alarm sounded off, and you were confused as to why it was. You've never heard this alarm before and got worried.
"Level 3 security breach! Please all students evacuate the building in an orderly fashion!"
Level three, breach of security? You saw everyone get up and rush out of the cafeteria. You pulled Mina behind you, holding onto her so she wouldn't get dragged away. It was so crowded, and people were shoving and screaming. You fought you way along the side of the wall where the windows were, to at least not be surrounded on all sides. You looked outside to see what kind of danger everyone could be in and only saw, the press?
"It's just the press!" You heard someone yell, and saw Iida.
"Iida! We have to let everyone know!" He saw that you noticed as well and nodded at you.
"I was afraid there was some type of attack on the school! Don't worry everyone-oof!" He was slammed against the window and you gasped.
"Here Mina, climb on the window sill, be careful!" You helped her up, and she looked scared.
"Where are you going?!"
"I have to help Iida!" You shoved your way through the crowd and helped Iida back to his feet.
"We need to find a way to make everyone listen!" He yelled impatiently. You heard a scream and saw Ochaco being dragged away. You quickly held your hand out and pushed yourself towards her. Trying to grab a hold and pull her towards you, it worked, and you dragged her against the current of the students. She held onto you and Iida both, and when you looked up you saw his face change.
"Uraraka, I need you to use your quirk! Make me float above the other students! (y/n), set off a light blast to push me towards the front of the students and hopefully get their attention!"
You both agreed and Ochaco slapped his hand and he lost his gravitational pull. He jumped up and you pushed him forward, letting out a blast of bright light following him. Most students stopped to see what was going on, a flying man with a bright light flying by.
Your push had him twisting in the air before he caught onto the bar by the exit sign for support.
"LISTEN UP, EVERYTHING IS OKAY! IT'S JUST THE MEDIA OUTSIDE, EVERYTHING'S FINE. THERE'S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! As U.A. students we can't let fear get to us." You stared in awe as he made the entire room quiet, and you yelled out as well.
"Please! Everyone exit in an orderly manner! We can't let someone get hurt by all this shoving! Walk towards the exits and watch out for anyone on the ground!"
People listened as they all made a slow exit, heading back to the classrooms. You stayed by the doors and made sure everyone got out safely and with no foul play. Watching through the window as the police arrived.
Once back in the classroom, you sent Iida a smile before walking towards the front, a shaking Izuku not far behind you.
"C'mon Izuku, let's get started." You smiled at him, hoping it would calm his nerves.
"Uhm yea! So uh, we got to figure out the other class officers! But uh, first off.." He looked down, "There's something I have to say. I think Tenya Iida should be out class rep!" Your mouth dropped open, forming a small 'o' as he continued to praise Iida for his support during the crisis situation. You grinned and agreed.
"Without Iida we still would be in a panic, I agree with you Midoriya if that's what you really want."
"Yeah, you know what. If (y/n) even agrees I'm good!" Kirishima grinned at Iida. "You manned up and took charge, even though you looked like the exit guy sign."
"If Midoriya is nominating me for this job," Iida stood, hand raised high, " I accept!"
"That was a very kind thing to do Izuku." You smiled at him, and he laughed back.
"It's only the right thing. You two will make a great team, just like how you proved that today!"
You continued on with class duties, picking out other officers before the time came and it was for hero training!
"I wonder what we have going on today." You looked at Sero, who was looking bored, waiting for Aizawa to continue the lesson.
"Who knows, I hope it's some more training, I want to keep getting stronger!"  Kirishima started throwing air punches.
"Well I hope it's something a little different, being a hero isn't just about fighting you know." You shot back.
"Quiet down." Mr. Aizawa interrupted.
"Today's training will be a little different," You smirked smugly at Kirishima for being right, he just rolled his eyes. "you'll have three instructors. Myself, AllMight, and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you. "
"Wow three pros. That's pretty cool."
"Sir, what kind of training is this?" Sero asked.
"Rescue," Aizawa held out a card much like AllMight did the day prior. "You will be dealing with natural disasters and such."
"Wow disasters huh? Sounds like a big workout." Denki said, looking perplexed, even more so when Mina yelled back at him how amazing it was going to be.
"It's real hero stuff, " Kirishima patted Denki on the back. "It's what separates the men from the boys."
"Hey!" He pouted. "I'm a man!"
"Yea okay dude," Kirishima laughed and pointed at you. "(y/n) is way more manlier than you, try to prove me wrong." You snickered back and high-fived the redhead while Denki pouted at the both of you.
"You guys are mean."
"Hey, I wasn't finished." The class quieted down from Mr. Aizawa's stern voice. You guys looked back at him, his face made it clear he was exhausted with you all.
"What you wear in this exercise is up to you, I would choose carefully. Seeing as even though you're excited about your costumes, remember you aren't really used to them, it could even hinder your abilities." Aizawa pressed the remote and all of the cases for your costumes came out.
"We'll have to take a bus to get there since this training is at an off campus facility. Get ready and let's go."
You all got up to grab your suits, and went to change in the locker room.
"You're costume is super cute (y/n)! I wish mine was better, and maybe not so skin tight." Ochaco laughed, rubbing her arm self consciously.
"I still think it looks really cool on you! Not as much as mine, but mine is the best here! Look at the colors!" Gushed Mina. She twirled around and began to pose, causing you both to laugh.
"It looks great yes, both of yours do! Mine is mainly so I don't overheat myself."
"That reminds me, how exactly does your quirk work (y/n)?"
"Well," You started, explaining to every girl who were now gathered around you.
"I take the property of light, and manipulate the chemical formula, so in a sense I can go back and forth from making a light from a solid to its original form. Even almost making myself light, that's how I was able to run so fast."
"It's really fascinating to hear about everyone's unique quirks, don't you guys agree?" Momo questioned thoughtfully.
"Like, in some way's quirks can be similar yet at the same time at a whole other level. Like when someone can lift make small objects float, to the extreme like you Uraraka, who can cancel out the gravitational pull of just about anything and make that float." You all muttered in agreement with Momo, it really was kind of cool to know your power could've been something else entirely.
You girls headed outside, waiting for anyone else along with the bus to arrive.
"Hey Deku why are you in your P.E. clothes?" Ochaco asked, walking with you as you both stopped in front of said boy.
"Didn't you see his outfit after the training?" You laughed.
"Yea, it was kinda trashed. I'm still waiting for the support company to fix it up" Izuku agreed.
A loud whistle blew out, making everyone turn their heads to their class rep, who was looking more determined than ever to fulfill his duties.
"Ok gather around class 1-A! Form two neat lines based on your student numbers to ensure we load the bus efficiently. "
"Iida doesn't seem to be slowing down, kicking it into high gear for this role." Izuku sighed, and you laughed loudly.
"Why Midoriya, was that a pun?" He flushed before agreeing, making you laugh even louder. You've never heard this kid joke before, you didn't think his stuttering heart would've allowed him to try.
He shook his arms, ranting on about he wasn't trying to make fun of him before you had to shut him up.
"Jeez Izuku you're doing that thing again where the words just keep coming out. How do you have that much air?"
"I-uh sorry! I didn't realize!" You shake your head with another chuckle before making your way onto the bus with the other students. Noticing the layout of the bus really didn't match with the original way Tenya wanted everyone to sit.
You sat down on Kirishima's left, the edge seat. When you looked towards the other seats to your side you saw Bakugou sitting next to Jiro, and Todoroki just behind them. You sighed and leaned back further into the plush seats, ignoring Iida's sulking about his ruined plans. Your attention was caught when Tsu said she wanted to make an observation about Izuku.
"That power of yours, it's really a lot like AllMight's isn't it?" You glanced over and saw him jump, nerves making him shake like normal. This confused you. If he was such a fanboy, shouldn't he be more thrilled?
"What really? You think so huh? I never really thought so, I don't think that could be a possibility!"
"Izuku, what's the big deal." Your eyes narrowed as you saw him gulp, not looking into your eyes. "Wouldn't it be cool to say you had a strong quirk like a Pro, even if it wasn't exactly the same?"
"Even though it's powerful, it's really not like AllMight's that much." Kirishima pointed out.
"I mean, AllMight doesn't break his bones after ever smash. I'd say their really different." He sighed, making his arm harden with his quirk.
"Even so I do have to admit it's pretty flashy, and Midoriya's would make a great Pro Hero quirk, you'll get noticed! Unlike mine, not too flashy, just able to get the bad guys down is all I'm good for.
"Hey I think you're quirk is really cool!" You pipe up, not liking that he was putting himself down.
"I mean I'd love to have a quirk that didn't make me overheat constantly. You know how tough it is when I get a fever? I feel like I'm melting." You say with an over-dramatic sigh, you really hated getting sick.
"Okay but you're probably are one of the best when it comes to having a Pro Quirk! I mean, Todoroki and Bakugou probably are the best ones here but you ain't far behind! Even Bakugou can tell it's a good and flashy quirk! What does he call you again? Glitter Worm?" You laughed, looking at Bakugou who was already staring at you, with a grunt he looked away as soon as you two made eye contact.
"Glitter worm? That's pretty good, but I'm glitter bomb to him. Pretty cute don't you think." You wink at the other students, ignoring Aoyama when he argued he was the only one who sparkled here.
"Oh man Bakugou gave you a cute nickname!?" Mina squealed, and you swore you could see hearts form in her eyes.
"That's so romantic! It's even matching his own quirk! You both are the bomb! Ahh I want someone to give me a cutesy name!"
You blushed, waving your arms around, reminding yourself of the way Iida looks when he is shouting out commands.
"Th-that's not-"
"I don't see Bakugou as the romance type though," Tsu spoke out, "he's always angry, he'll never be that popular, especially with the ladies."
"WHAT DID YOU SAY? I'LL KICK YOUR ASS!" Bakugou lurched forward, hand gripping the rail tightly as he glared at Tsu. All she did in reply was point and mutter an 'See? I told you so.'
"You know, we still barely know one another, but it goes to show how we all know your personality is a flaming pile of crap. I agree with Tsu, you would never be able to charm a girl. "
Bakugou turned his furious stare towards Kaminari, who was the one to agree with Tsu about the romance issue.
"YOU'RE GOING TO REGRET THE DAY YOU APPLIED TO THIS SCHOOL YOU LOSER, I'LL KILL YOU. WHO ARE YOU TO THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME HUH!?"
"Because unlike you, I can woo a woman Bakugou." Denki smugly retorted as he blew a kiss at you with a wink. You felt your body shiver in disturbance at being flirted with by him. You could imagine your father's reaction too, the poor boy would be crushed by a Pro Hero even before the first week of school ended!
"Gross Kaminari, I don't want you blowing your germs in my direction, you're not good at romance either you know."
"EITHER?? SO YOU'RE PUTTING ME ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THIS EXTRA, HUH ICKY GLOW WORM?"
"I mean, you're not exactly making me swoon by calling me an icky worm, Bakugou." Kirishima howled in laughter as Bakugou snapped and yelled at you both. Iida jumped in yelling back about treating everyone with respect.
"What a disgusting conversation." Momo glared, her hand over her mouth as she was really going to get sick.
"Oh c'mon Momo," You smiled, " It's all fun and games."
"Yeah!" Ochaco grinned, "It's kind of fun listening to them fight, plus I think (y/n) and Bakugou would make a great couple!"
Your jaw dropped, hands cupping your cheeks to hide your blush as you heard more squeaks and squeals of agreement coming from Mina.
"Oh they would be the cutest together wouldn't they! I swear I saw them holding hands this morning!" Everyone's chatter stopped, looking between both you and the hothead.
"I-It's not what you think! The reporters were all up in my face and he was just dragging me away!"
"Awh she's blushing! ADMIT YOU LIKE HIM!" Mina cackled, everyone teasing you for your red face, causing you to sink further into the chair.
"HEY SHUT IT RIGHT NOW IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU! NO ONE LIKES ANYONE YOU DAMN NERD." Bakugou was red in the face as well, he was yelling at everyone so you knew that was why, since there was no way he could be embarrassed. Unlike you, you were sure your face was a bright red beacon, all because of the teasing! How could they say that so casually?
"Hey hey we're here, knock it off." Aizawa grumbled out.
"Yes sir!" You all responded, and you sat up and turned to look out the window, marveling at the large dome building you were pulling up to, excited for the training about to come.

Chapter Seventeen: The Third Side
Word Count: 3,502
↠ ♥ ↞
Riley walks calmly down the hall until she’s out of sight. Once she knew Lucas couldn’t see her anymore she hurries out of the building, wiping her damp cheeks with each quick stride.
Out in the fresh air Riley takes a deep breath. It’s was her quick exit through the doors that startled Ms. Mitchell, the drama teacher and one of the evenings chaperones. The quirky older woman drops a lit cigarette in her hand and tramples it with her boot.
“Just a little stress reliever.” Ms. Mitchell nervously swats away the lingering smoke.
Riley just nods lightly in attempt to conceal the fact that she was crying. Before the brunette could make up an excuse to leave Ms. Mitchell ropes her into a very one sided conversation.
“You’re leaving a little early aren't you?” Ms. Mitchell questions.
“Ah yes, I’m not feeling very well.” Riley lies.
“Well this might help perk you up.” Ms. Mitchell bounces excitedly. “I shouldn’t be telling you this but what the heck?”
Riley narrows her brows in confusion.
“Congratulations Riley, you’re the class valedictorian!” Ms. Mitchell says proudly. “The official announcement is on Monday but I wanted to tell you first, since I accidentally told you about your nomination before that was announced I thought it would be fitting if I jumped the gun here too.” The drama teacher produces an excited squeal.
Riley lets out a small laugh of disbelief and chokes a little on the lump in her throat. Before she can say anything Kai finally catches up to her.
“Oh Kai, hello.” Ms. Mitchell greets him politely.
Kai gives her an awkward wave but is more focused on Riley. Ms. Mitchell could sense the awkwardness so she excuses herself to go back inside.
Riley tries to walk away from Kai without a word but he stops her. “Riley wait.” He grips her wrist firmly and spins her back around.
“Did you come out here to tell me ‘I told you so’?” Riley shrugs weakly, tears quickly building in her eyes again.
“The exact opposite actually.” Kai frowns. “I wanted to see if you were okay.”
“Of course I’m not okay.” Riley blinks out the tears. “I was stupid enough to let myself believe for a moment that it could be different for me and Lucas.”
“Maybe it can be.” Kai says.
“You’re the one who has been advocating against him this whole time.” Riley states. “Suddenly you’re on his side?”
“I’m on your side, always.” Kai knew she was just upset but the insinuation still hurt. “I know I have been anti-Lucas but I can see that he cares about you.” Kai says truthfully.
“It honestly doesn’t matter.” Riley shakes her head. “He’s Maya’s ex-boyfriend. Part of him will always be linked to her.”
“Ri, everyone has history.” Kai says.
“Yeah I know. He’s my history, they’re both my history and I don’t want to relive it all.” Riley cries. “I was heartbroken when Lucas didn’t choose me, tonight has just reminded me that I’m not enough.”
“Shut your perfect mouth.” Kai says feeling super emotional himself at the sight of Riley so upset.
“They’re King and Queen. How can I compete with that?” Riley sniffles.
“You’re Riley.” Kai stresses the only title she should care about and in his eyes the best title.
“I’m tired.” Riley says in the same stressed manner Kai had but more deflated.
“I know.” Kai nods gently. “But Lucas wants to be with you, Riley and if you want to be with him you should. You don’t owe anyone anything so if he’s what you want then forget about anyone else and go for it.”
"I owe it to myself to want better than this.” Riley sucks back the tears and tries to compose herself.
“But this wasn’t Lucas’ fault.” Again Kai is uncharacteristically defensive on Lucas’ behalf.
“That may be so but tonight has shown me that I can’t do this anymore.” Riley shrugs a shoulder. “I can’t open myself up to be hurt-”
“But, Ri, you can’t be closed off...” Kai cuts in.
“I’m not, but I am closing the door on Lucas.” Riley nods. “I’ve had my heartbroken too many times when it comes to him, whether it was his fault or not, okay?”
“Okay.” Kai nods feeling the desperation in Riley’s voice. “I just want to know that you’re not doing this because you think you're betraying Maya or you’re not as good as her-”
“I’m doing this for me.” Riley states firmly.
“Okay.” Kai nods again.
“I want to go home.” Riley says defeated.
“I’ll take you-”
“No.” Riley shakes her head. “I really want to be alone right now.”
“No, you don’t have to be.” Kai holds her hand. “We can get ice cream on the way and watch movies or-”
“Kai, please,” Riley breaks their connected hands. “I really want to be alone right now. Go back inside, enjoy the rest of prom with Noah-”
Although Kai further expresses how he can’t enjoy himself knowing that Riley’s upset, he does respect her wishes to be left alone for the time being.
Riley arrives back at her apartment and beelines past her mother whom had been given the heads up from Cory who was still at the prom. Riley insists she wants to be alone and locks herself in her bedroom to cry further. She’d allow herself one night to be sad and she’d wake up tomorrow and forget about Lucas once and for all.
After twenty minutes of feeling very sorry for herself, rustling on the fire escape catches Riley’s attention, she lets out a groan into her pillow. Then there’s a knock on the glass window. Riley lifts her head with a sulky sigh, “I told you I wanted to be alone, Kai-” Riley stops abruptly when she finds the person on the other side of the glass wasn’t her best friend, at least not her current best friend.
Riley sits up on her bed but doesn’t stand right away, it’s like she was seeing if her eyes were playing a trick on her.
“Can I come in?” Maya’s voice is muffled behind the glass.
Riley snaps out of her trance like state and moves towards the bay window. She opens the window and Maya climbs through awkwardly holding her heels.
“They kept getting stuck in the metal holes.” Maya waves the shoes and answers Riley’s silent confusion as to why she was holding them. Riley just nods, her mood is too off to do anything else.
“Can we sit down?” Maya shyly points a thumb towards the bay window seat. Another nod from Riley and they both sit in the window.
An awkward silence passes. Maya hadn’t been in the window since she told Riley about Adam’s cheating scandal and before that it was Thanksgiving of sophomore year.
“Where’s your crown?” Riley finally speaks up. She doesn’t mean to sound bitter she was just genuinely curious.
“I gave it to Sarah, she was the one who really wanted it.” Maya says.
Riley nods again. She herself had voted for Sarah to win.
“Look I had no idea that people were going to vote for us- or even why they’d vote for us in the first place-”
“Maya, please.” Riley cuts in. “I don’t want to talk about it. It has nothing to do with me.”
“It has everything to do with you, Riley.” Maya says passionately.
“Why are you here, Maya?” Riley asks. “Did Lucas send you?”
“No.” Maya answers honestly. “He actually specifically asked me not to come.”
“Then why are you here?” Riley presses.
“Because this isn’t Lucas’ fault. You need to know that.” Maya huffs. “Huckleberry has spent months begging me to tell you my side of the story and tonight, after the crowning I told him I’d fix it and he asked me not to. It was his dumb sad face that made me realise how selfish I’ve been with refusing to explain things to you.”
“Because you’re still in love with him.” Riley says weakly.
“No!” Maya scoffs. “Not at all.”
“I don’t believe you.” Riley steadies her voice.
Maya holds Riley’s gaze even though the brunette is sheepish under her stare. “I have never been in love with Ranger Rick.”
Riley bravely tries to stare back at the blonde girl as she repeats, “I don’t believe you.”
“And I don’t believe that you weren't mad at me for dating him in the first place.” Maya gets defensive. “I was so upset when you told me that you didn’t want to be friends anymore I bought your lame excuse about finding new interest. But really it was because of Lucas. It’s always been about Lucas!”
Riley closes her eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath. After slowly opening her eyes Riley calmly says, “Maya, get out.”
A little taken back by Riley’s demand, Maya narrows her brows. “Riley-”
“No.” Riley holds a hand out to stop her. “I told you I didn’t want to talk about it, so I’m not going to.”
“No.” Maya says equally as firm. “I owe it to Lucas to tell you my side of the story and I think I deserve to hear you tell me the real reason by you dumped me as a best friend.”
Riley’s mouth hangs agape at Maya’s snap remark. “You deserve it do you?”
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Maya softens. “I just mean, I knew you were angry at me back then and you continued to claim you weren't but you were. I deserve for you to be angry with me.”
“It hurt when Lucas didn’t choose me. It hurt to see you two together.” Riley tries to calm herself down. “But I was never angry at either of you for being together. I was angry at myself for lying to both of you about my feelings. I felt like a terrible friend for still liking Lucas even though he was dating you.”
Maya believed Riley about not being angry. It was the blondes own guilt she had about the situation that wanted Riley to be upset with her, like the punishment she felt she deserved. “Well you should be angry at me.”
“Why?” Riley lets out a defeated breath.
“Because I dated Lucas even though I knew you liked him.” Maya states.
“That was kinda the whole idea behind the triangle.” Riley shrugs.
Maya feels like everything that’s going to come out of her mouth next will seal the fate of their already dead friendship once and for all. “I dated Lucas when I knew you liked him and I didn’t.”
“What?” Riley is a bit quieter with her confusion.
“You’re right. I love Lucas.” Maya says simply. “There I said it, I love that stupid cowboy. I love him because he reminds me of you in so many ways. I love him because he’d never hurt me or anyone he cares about on purpose. I love that he lets me make fun of him even when I take it too far. I love that he’s considerate and protective. I love Lucas, he’s the closest thing to a best friend that I have.”
Riley shrinks in place. The declaration didn’t exactly feel great to hear.
Maya continues. “The first time I told Lucas I loved him was the day after our one year anniversary. You know why?” Maya asks with a slightly menacing smile but she doesn’t allow time for Riley to answer. “Because we both forgot it and the only reason I said it was because Zay pointed out how weird it was that we hadn't said it and that we forgot a major anniversary.”
“Everyone develops relationships at their own pace.” Riley shrugs a shoulder.
Maya shakes her head slightly. “Lucas walked me home from our group movie date that night and I told him I loved him because Zay made me feel weird about it.” Maya crinkles her nose. “When I said it, I’m sure that’s how Satan feels when he touches a bible.” Riley doesn’t laugh at Maya’s joke, not that the blonde had expected her to anyway. “Lucas looked at me completely panicked and he said it back in exactly like I had, like he didn’t mean it. It wasn’t until we broke up that I actually meant it when I told him I loved him.” Maya says. “I love him like a brother, that’s how I felt about him, not you.”
“You don’t just date your brother for nearly three years.” Riley says a little more bitterly than she meant it.
“Do you really want to know what our relationship was like?” Maya asks.
“You’re the one who came here to tell me your story.” Riley folds her arms. Riley refrained from using the word ‘force’ in her sentence.
“Fair point.” Maya shifts in place unsure if Riley actually wanted to hear it or not she continues anyway, “Dating Lucas was like going through a checklist. Step one; hold hands, step two; kiss, step three-”
“Okay I don’t want to know.” Riley cuts in with a scrunched up face.
“Riley, we never...You know...” Maya doesn’t say it.
“I don’t want to know.” Riley covers her ears in a panic.
Maya pulls Riley’s hands away from her head. “Lucas and I held hands because that’s what couples do. Lucas would walk me home from study sessions because that’s what couples do. After winter break freshman year we were pressured into kissing for the first time. My first kiss came out of peer pressure because we’d been dating for a few months and normal couples would have kissed by then.”
“First relationships can be awkward.” Riley says.
Maya lets out a groan. “Yes they can be and they can also be a complete waste of time!” Maya exhales loudly. “Lucas and I never talked to each other and when we did it was about you. Literally all we had in common was you and then when we acknowledged that talking about you was weird too we’d go back to talking about nothing.” Maya takes a breath as she tries to string together the jumbled thoughts as they rush around her head. “Then there’s Zay- I spent more time with him in my first month dating Lucas than I had in the whole two years we’d known him. Zay became a crutch for me and Lucas. We’d get him to tag along on our movies dates just so it wouldn’t be so awkward that we couldn’t speak to each other- Dating Lucas was like hanging out with a friend you don't have much in common with, a friend that you feel obligated to kiss and hold hands with occasionally if other people are looking...”
“How romantic.” Riley says sarcastically.
“But that’s exactly the point, Riley.” Maya shuffles an inch closer to her former best friend. “I love Lucas and he loves me but we have never been in love with each other.”
"Why would you date Lucas for two and a half years if it was as bad as you claim?” Riley questions still trying to make sense of this odd explanation.
“Our entire relationship was waiting for the other one to end it.” Maya lowers her gaze to her lap. “Neither of us could do it because ending it meant that we both lost you for nothing.”
It’s quiet for a moment and then the strangest sound fills the room; Riley’s laughter.
“Why are you laughing?” Maya is confused.
“Because you and Lucas both seem to think that telling me you were unhappy will magically make things better for me.” Riley tapers off her laughing but she’s still smiling manically. “You two dated each other... For me?” More laughter from Riley.
“I know it sounds ridiculous and granted we didn’t handle things well but it’s the truth.” Maya says. “Once we finally admitted that we didn’t have serious feelings for each other it was like our true friendship finally began.”
“I still don’t believe you.” Riley says after her laughter tapers off.
“Why not?” Maya asks.
“Because after Lucas defended me to Adam you were clearly upset with me. You were jealous.” Riley says as a matter of fact.
“I wasn’t jealous, I was scared.” Maya frowns. “After I spoke to you the day before, for the first time in a long time I had hope that maybe we could be friends again. Seeing Lucas risk everything he’s work so hard to leave behind for you made me realise that he still loved you and if I lost him to you that means I would have no one.” Maya chews on her bottom lip. “So for whatever dumb reason I spent a month trying to be some crazy in love girlfriend because I knew I had more of a chance keeping Lucas than I did getting you back. Then finally Lucas did what we both had been struggling to do; he ended the relationship and for the first time ever we had an honest conversation about everything. We both spoke about how we felt and why we didn’t work and things were better than they had ever been with us.”
“Did you ever like him?” Riley asks softly, still unsure if she believes Maya’s words to be true.
“I thought I did.” Maya is honest. “I thought I wanted what you had with him.”
“When did you realise that you didn’t like him?” Riley questions. “Because if you knew before ski lodge you could have just said it.”
“I didn’t know then, after I changed back to the old Maya or the new Maya I didn’t know how I felt about anything.” Maya explains. “I was just waiting for someone to tell me how I felt so I could try and understand.”
“But when did you know you didn’t like him?” Riley presses again.
“I think part of me always knew. I mean there was no denying that we were completely off as a couple but I think I really knew during A Midsummer Nights Dream.” Maya says. “I saw you with Lucas and how stressed you were about kissing him and I realised I didn’t care if you did. I thought about breaking up with him then. I actually came to talk to you about it but the window was locked, I think that’s when I realised that you still liked him and you didn’t want to kiss him because of me but because of your own feelings.”
“You got all that from a locked window?” Riley jokes but it falls short.
“You never locked your window.” Maya says with a sad smile. “It kinda felt like you were shutting me out. I already knew we were drifting but I felt it most when I couldn’t climb through the bay window.”
“I didn’t mean for it to feel like that.” Riley frowns. “I just was trying to work through it, so we could still be friends.”
Maya nods. “Thanksgiving happened before I ended things and well, we ended up here.”
“Maya,” Riley sighs. Maya says she came for Lucas but a stronger part of her was hurting more about her own broken relationship with Riley. Riley senses that and tries to lightly mend what she could. “You dating Lucas didn’t make me leave our friends. I left because I couldn’t be around him and you because I felt guilty about my feelings.”
“And now that you know I didn’t love him, does that change anything?” Maya questions. “Do you hate me?”
“I hate that friendships were lost and time was wasted because we were all too scared to say how we really felt.” Riley answers truthfully.
“But it doesn’t have to be like that now.” Maya insists desperately. “You don’t have to take me back as a friend but I need for you to give Lucas a chance.”
Riley wears a small and sad smile. “Maya, I couldn’t choose between you and Lucas back during thanksgiving, that’s why I told you I didn’t want to be friends anymore. I couldn’t choose so I chose myself. I’m doing that again can you please just.. get that?”
Maya nods.
“Hey Maya?” Riley softens her voice.
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry.” Riley says.
“What for?” Maya knits her brows.
“For letting a boy ruin our friendship.”
“He wasn’t a boy, he was Lucas.” Maya half smiles.
“Can you tell him I’m sorry?” Riley asks.
“Whatever you want.” Maya says with such pain in her eyes that it hurts Riley deeply. Maya stands and turns towards the open window.
Before the blonde can climb out Riley jumps to her feet, “Maya?”
“Yeah?” She turns around.
“I’m sorry for letting anything ruin our friendship.” Riley corrects herself.
“Me too.” Maya nods sadly.
“I’ll see you around, Peaches.” Riley wears half a smile.
The use of Maya’s old endearing nickname was too much for the blonde and it triggered the tears as she climbed out the window.
End Notes: Okay this chapter is a legit mess I am so sorry. You can pretty much disregard everything you read and just take this lousy summary as it’s what I intended to convey: Lucas respected Riley’s wishes to stop the chasing but Maya saw in that moment how much he really needed for her to explain things. (In Lucas’ mind Maya and his mutual agreement that they never loved each other should make it easier for Riley to open up to him) So Maya goes over there in a desperate attempt to fix things for Lucas (and Riley) as she feels solely responsible for messing things up in the first place but as she pleads Lucas’ case by telling her side of the story, her own hurt feelings about her friendship with Riley ending keeps breaking through in the conversation. So the back and forth is supposed to be messy. Like Maya wants to hash out the events of their friendship ending up also is trying to make a mends between Riley and Lucas bc she thinks they deserve to be happy together like how it should have been to begin with and blah like I said MESSY!
Next Chapter: THE LAST CHAPTER. (I’m still deciding if there’s a need for an epilogue...) Graduation. What’s happened in the month since prom? What happens next? Will Riley graduate with any regrets?
also if anyone is concerned about Riley being forced to listen to explanations pls dw. This has been intentional and will be touched on next chapter!
