Poking at timeline stuff again:

So Kon was ‘born’ in 1993, and hatched from his tube aged… 15ish? He turned 1 in Nov 1995 (Superboy Annual #2 of his series) – note Kon is STILL AGING here, and after this point he’s usually described as 16 physically. His age ‘froze’ in July 1997 (Superboy #41) and then started aging again after Sins of Youth in May 2000 (Superboy #74) Kon died in May 2006 (Infinite Crisis #6) Kon returned in June 2009 (Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds #4)

2000-2006 is about a year in Comics Time. I think it’s 100% fair to say Kon was physically 17 year old, at his youngest, as at his death, and mentally 17-18.

Kon enrolled in Smallville High on his revival – he’s almost certainly in Year 12/a Senior – and 2009ish is known as the ‘start’ of a school year by a bunch of correlating factors (Steph starting college is one). Flashpoint interrupts and this school year likely never finished. He may or may not have celebrated his 18th birthday before Flashpoint but it either happened or was due imminently.

Known timegaps – Kon lost slightly over a year between Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis. His aging stopped either for over a year (if you use Bat timelines) or more like 6 months (given it was 3 years real time). In total I want to say Kon’s ‘age’ went backwards about 18 months to two years over this period. His mental age, however, probably only lost 15 months or so.

By Flashpoint, Kon probably was due to celebrate his 18th birthday in his personal timeline.

In comparison: Jason Todd died aged 15 (if you take canon at its word) or 14 years 9 months (if you use the canonical birthday and death day dates). He was officially dead for 6 months before getting resurrected (- 6 months) and then in a coma for a year (-12 months). He then had a fun amnesiac period which does not have a defined length of time before Talia got sick of it and pushed Jason into a Pit.

Using Bat timelines, 18 months after Jason’s death is probably some time around Contagion or Legacy. Legacy in particular makes a lot of sense for Talia to see Jason in Gotham and pick him up to take home with her. He probably had to go into a Lazarus Pit during No Man’s Land, given Bane and Bruce start the ‘destroy all the Lazarus Pits’ campaign post-NML, culminating in Death and the Maidens in 2003-2004.

Either way, Jason Todd is still mentally 15 years old as of 2000.

Jason’s not in a position to return to Gotham with Talia’s urging until AFTER the rebuild for the famous bomb the Batmobile moment (realistically probably 2000-2001), and from the rebuild process IN DC comics 2001 is a better call than 2000 if you don’t still want rubble everywhere (they didn’t manage to get Ivy out of Robinson Park until Jan 2001)

He then does his world travel training trip… but is back in Gotham for September 2003 and Hush (and Tim’s 16th birthday).

Given Tim’s birthday is canonically on 19 July, the longest Jason’s world training trip can be is 6 months, and is probably more like 3-4 months given the required futzing time either side.

Jason doesn’t legally turn 18 until March 2004 (Tec #790). He’s still almost certainly mentally 16 years old here. He’s arguably physically 17.5 here.

A set of preboot timeline facts from all of this that is hilarious (to me):-

Jason and Tim are mentally about the same age, given their canonical 23 month age gap by date of birth. Depending on how long a period Talia keeps Jason around as an amnesiac, Tim may actually be mentally older.

Yes. The Titans Tower fight was essentially two 16 year olds having a spat.

Kon, despite also having fun death times, is 100% mentally older than Jason for all periods, though they’re close to drawing even after Final Crisis. He’s probably close to physically the same age as Jason for a lot of the time up to Infinite Crisis.

Tim may actually have spent a similar amount of time training in Paris (between Robin I and some time during Legacy and the summer leading up to Cataclysm) as Jason did on his Lost Days world trip.

Anyone who questions how Tim can be one of the greatest bo staff fighters in the world when he’s working off the same time frame of intense training from masters as Jason is (and has a far more substantial training time with Bruce and Dick) is honestly discounting that Tim has more extensive vigilante experience than Jason does, particularly in terms of Gotham-focused skills.

Kon and Tim end up by Flashpoint as within a few months of each other in age.

Owen's Age

In Martha's medical log, she states that Owen is 27 during the events of Reset. We're going to talk about why we should stop accepting that as canon and start referring to Owen as being 34 during Reset.

His birthday of February 14th is always constant and isn't something I dispute. We are given two dates for his year of birth, 1974 or 1980.

1980 is on screen in Reset and I believe Exit Wounds, as well as in text published after season two. The fact that this is well documented makes it hard to argue with, and yet I will.

1974 is only ever mentioned once, in an email that was written and published on the TW website alongside Dead Man Walking. Keep in mind that this would have been written before DMW aired, which suggests that 1980 wasn't in the script that the writers were given. A few days after airing, the date in the email was changed to 1980 to match what we saw on TV.

Let's take a quick look at a Owen timeline.

Born either 1974 or 1980.

Began training as a doctor in 1994. He would either be 14 or 20.

Late 2000/early 2001 he walked out on his college girlfriend in London. He would be either 20 or 26.

In March 2001, Owen is a qualified Doctor in Cardiff. He would be either 21 or 27.

Owen was employed by Cardiff General between at least 2000 and 2002. He would have been either 20-22 or 26-28.

Lucy Marmer is brought to Owen's attention in September 2001, six months after Owen qualified. Owen would be either 21 or 27.

Katie dies in 2005, which would make Owen either 25 or 31.

Owen is hired by Torchwood in 2006, making him either 26 or 32.

Reset is set after June 2008, making Owen either 28 or 34.

Having Owen be born in 1974 puts his timeline into some form of sense. It makes him a year older than Tosh, four years older than Gwen, and nine years older than Ianto, which sits well with the dynamics. He in no way feels five years younger than Tosh, two years younger than Gwen, and three years older than Ianto.

In addition, Burn himself is born in 1974 and I frankly don't think he looks six years younger than he actually is.

i stare at your pictures for hours on end

dreaming, fantasizing about holding you

feeling my hands on your bare skin

just being with you

the numbing atmosphere wrapped around manjiro's body as he sat on the edge of his bed, moonlight illuminating his pale features while he reaches for a familiar portrait. the edges of the photo have weakened, growing flimsy as the structure had deteriorated over time. despite this, manjiro saw the picture the same every time, just like how he did when it was first printed out of shinichiro's old canon camera - one he had inherited after his brother's death.

as manjiro brought the picture closer into view, your familiar face welcomed his sight. the only light flinting onto your picture was from tokyo's street lights, captivating your features etched permanently onto the photograph. his impassive black eyes skimmed the back of the paper as he flipped it, reading the date while he vividly recalled the day.

june 18th, 2006

the former blonde had always thought you were stunning. in his eyes, no one compared to your beauty. he admired everything about you - the way you looked in the mirror to style your hair or the way the sunlight touched your skin and illuminated every feature. the imperfections you saw were only human to him, the blemishes and freckles that littered your skin, and the slight crease between your eyebrows that grew from the occasional scoldings he faced when he fought.

that particular day, you had been walking along the docks manjiro always visited. he carried with him a piece of taiyaki, stuffed with red bean paste that he generously munched on while you made your commute. as you sat on the concrete structures, you looked ahead and admired the gaze of the sun. the wind grazed your hair, blowing it back to reveal more of your face as you turned to manjiro with a slight smile - one he always adored to be blessed with.

the two of you spent hours along the water, admiring the beauty of your surroundings. for you, the surroundings were the way the sun paved light against the grass, the wind blowing against the stray flowers, and the occasional wildlife that passed by. for manjiro, his admiration was solely for you. it was discreet and you were far too enamored with nature to notice how he looked in your direction. hours of talking about school, what you wanted to do when you grew up, and how you planned to stay along each other's side the whole way. you didn't know it would never happen, but it wasn't your fault. sharing earbuds and listening to each other's favorite music while you passed jokes until sunset. he remembers taking the picture. the way the light flashed and your soft laughter could be heard ringing in his ears - only now it was a faint echo, something he wouldn't allow himself to experience again. he had shared some of his taiyaki with you, something he was adamant about keeping for himself despite your pleas. but there was one thing manjiro was entirely weak for - love. so, for you he allowed you to finish his beloved snack. he had taken the picture in the middle of you eating the treat, being graced with a slight scold of how it's 'impolite' to take a picture while you're eating. he couldn't care less, though. manjiro found himself smiling at the faint crumbs around your mouth and the close-mouthed smile that stretched your lips.

when the cold nipped at your bare skin, manjiro made sure to encase his hand in yours as he led you to his bike. he'd drive you home, peaking over his shoulder occasionally to see how you took in the night of tokyo. the way your eyes gleamed, the way he could feel your grip around his waist tighten as you buried your head into his back with a giggle.

god, you were so beautiful.

manjiro was too busy reliving the memory to notice the way his finger brushed against the photograph, caressing your cheek while he continued to get lost in his thoughts.

but i know it'll never happen

but i can't stop myself from fantasizing

the long black locks cascaded over manjiro's face as a sigh escaped his mouth. often times late at night, his mind would drift and he would think about what could've been if he never left. but he would never know because he could never go back. he can't help but wonder if you would love him how he is now. would you still hold him tightly like you would on your late motorcycle rides? would you still comb his hair back and style it when draken didn't have the time to? would you still look at him with those eyes - the ones he can't help but feel staring back at him even through the old memories.

"'jiro, sit still!" your muffled reprimands entered his mind once more.

"god, how does draken even deal with you sometimes?" you giggled under your breath, trying to hold the hair tie between your teeth while you split manjiro's blonde hair. he could feel your nail card through his strands, leaning into your touch as he retold the events of his dream from the previous night.

"it was the best! i could feel the wind against my skin when I was racing," he chuckled as he rocked back and forth. "someday, i'll be racing on the track professionally," he added, turning his head once he felt you tug his hair into a half-up. he could see the ghost of a smile flint on your lips as you spoke.

"does that mean i get to cheer you on from the sidelines?" you asked, tilting you head with a smile.

"only if you're still buying my weekly dorayaki," he teased, his dark eyes admiring your features while you brushed any loose strands away from his face.

you rolled your eyes, taking his hand in yours while you guided him to stand up. "come on, you'll be late for school," you reminded him, the warmth from your hands providing a blank expression of surprise across the blonde's face as you let out a soft giggle.

you're so beautiful and funny

and anytime i see your picture or even hear your name,

my stomach flips and i get butterflies

every word you say sends goosebumps over my body

loving him must've been easier in your head. as he sits in his room - thumbing at your photograph the way he had done so many times before - he recalls his last memory of you.

it was different this time. it was so real, even when he was just reliving the past. he would do anything to touch you and drag his hands across the expanse of your body, caressing your waist and holding your hand as he slowly fucked himself into you.

"doing so good f'me," he praised as he hovered above you, stroking the stray wisps of hair that stuck to your forehead from perspiration. he let out soft groans, feeling you clench around him as his thrusts grew strategically deeper.

"always so pretty," he grunted, his onyx eyes peering into your own as tears welded on your lash line. your hands wandered manjiro's, hugging him closer to your chest as he continued fucking your cunt. goosebumps spread across his skin at your touch, one so gentle that he could only receive from you.

"i'm gonna cum," the plea escaped your mouth, prompting manjiro's eyes to flicker on your glossy, abused lips.

his voice was entirely demanding but remained to carry an undertone of affection alongside it. this moment was perfect - the moonlight glistening upon your sweat-glazed bodies as occasional thuds of your bedframe roamed through the room.

you whined as your cunt constricted, clenching him tight to your walls as you felt your orgasm wash over you. desperate cries of his name fell from your lips, the feeling of him filling you up overtaking your senses.

he couldn't risk it. living with all he's lost and knowing you would just be another causality dealt with his own hands. the life you would live alongside him wasn't the one you dreamt of as children. it was violent, murderous, and dangerous. you deserved better, didn't you?

he wants to go back. he misses you so badly - you were his comfort, his person. but it's gone now. the years of friendship - no, the years of something more that grew gradually between the two of you were wasted and thrown out. tossed to the back of the blonde's mind like nothing more than a bad dream. he'd atone for it soon, he just wasn't sure when. surely, this was the life he deserved, was it not? if he had, he couldn't guarantee the safety of you or anyone remotely close to him. so he sits in his million dollar penthouse alone. the darkness crowding the house as he sits there and stares at your photo, the one he had held so many times before but could never quite feel the warmth nor the comfort he sought. this weekly routine he followed, he was still holding onto everything he had.

Do yall wanna know my actual favorite butterfly effect?

Two people fucking on a mountain indirectly lead to my favorite comic of all time, Under the Red Hood.

Let me explain.

Joseph Hugo married a woman named Sophie Trébuchet in 1797. He was a general in Napoleon's army so they moved around quite a bit. In a letter he would later write to his son, he and his wife had been on a trip on June 24th 1801 to get from one post to the next and he believed this, on the highest peaks of the Vosges Mountains, is where he believed they conceived their son, who would later become the Ocean Man and famed author Victor Hugo.

(Fun fact: Jean Valjeans prisoner number, 24601, is absolutely in reference to his believed conception date)

Victor Hugo grows up and obviously is responsible for many works, such as Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and was never one to shy away from political commentary. Thus, he was exiled from France and sent to living on the Channel Islands. It was here that he wrote a novel titled The Man Who Laughs.

Like many of his works, this one does have different adaptations. One in particular came out in 1928 starring Conrad Veidt as the character Gwynplaine, or the Man Who Laughs.

Fast forward about a little over a decade later in 1940. A comic book writer comes into work to be greeted by two artists he worked with, one who did significantly less work than the others. These three men were Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.

Now the details of this meeting are...well, up in the air. Each man had their own account to it, and Bob Kane especially is the most unreliable given that he took credit for literally everything and we went over 70 years without Bill Finger getting any sort of credit to actually creating Batman. But what we do know is that there was a drawing of a playing card and a face for the joker card; and Bill Finger said, "Hey, that looks like Conrad Veidt in the Man Who Laughs."

They pushed further with that angle in making the character, a new villain for their hero; the obvious, Joker.

Some years later we get a little bit of an origin story in 1951, in the comic The Man Behind the Red Hood! (ALSO written by Bill Finger) Some college students are trying to solve this decades old case of a burglar in a red pill helmet that was called the Red Hood and trying to figure out who it was. Teaming up with Batman and Robin, they find out that the Red Hood was in fact Joker's old alias. He used to be a lab worker that was stealing from a playing card company with that alias. He was caught by Batman and threw himself into some chemical waste to escape, thus becoming the Joker.

This origin has stuck around in some form ever since. The moniker was unused for quite a long time after this, but would eventually find a new home in a different character.

See, in the 80s, Batman's second sidekick, Jason Todd, was killed off in a very brutal fashion after a fucking poll that people could call two different numbers to decide if they were going to save him or not. I will get into why I have so many frustrations with everything surrounding this story another day, but the important thing to know here is that the Joker killed Jason while Jason was trying to save his mother.

And for a good period of time there, Jason became a character that you did not bring back to life. Until they did.

A storyline running from 2005 to 2006 came into life, called Under the Hood. In it, Batman has to fight a new foe taking on the mantle of Red Hood, only to discover its Jason Todd, brought back to life from the Lazarus Pit, and taking on the mantle of the man that murdered him to go fucking murder the Joker and take control of crime in Gotham and do what he believes Bruce couldn't, all while dealing with trauma and feeling replaced.

So yeah. We wouldn't have my favorite character or story if it wasn't for Victor Hugo's parents fucking on a mountain and conceiving him there where "The elevated origin seems to have had effects on [Victor Hugo] so that [his] muse is continually sublime". That is a quote from that letter. Victor Hugo's mountain conception where he got a great muse is the reason for the Joker and Red Hood. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Hmmm... I have a few other things I want to do first but I'm thinking about a comic idea that blends 'Responsible older sibling with Colour Gang' Second and 'OwO youngest Hollowhead brother, must protecc' Second.

Like Chosen and Dark (in a scenario where everyone manages to make up and become more friendly with each other) walk upon a horrifying scene that the CG caused. The observing Hollowheads are about to intervene, thinking 'Sec might be in some serious trouble!' before Second manhandles the situation and reigns in the rest of the CG which makes Chosen and Dark remember 'Oh right, this is the same kid that almost killed TDL.'

Also, something to do with the fact that the Hollowheads and RBGY were all created/'born' before 2015. I need to double-check but I remember a 10-year anniversary special where Alan mentioned that AvA 1 released in 2005, hence that is Victim's birth-year and he is almost 20 years old chronology. AvA 2/Chosen was in 2006/7, AvA 3/Dark was 2011 and AvA 4/Second Coming was 2014 with the Stickfight site/RBGY assumingly being older by quite a bit.

Edit: Alright, here are the correct dates for the AvA series (and, therefore, character birthdays):

AvA 1 (Victim) = June 3rd, 2006 AvA 2 (Chosen) = November 4th, 2006 AvA 3 (Dark) = October 2nd, 2011 AvA 4 (Second) = October 2nd, 2014

(The 10-year anniversary special I mentioned)

As far as I'm aware, we don't know how old that Stick Figures Fight page was but it was already up and running before Second came into the picture so it (and, therefore, RBGY) was definitely older than him by a fair bit.

Okay, so I ended up having to tag you in a post instead of putting the thing in your asks because It was crazy long. I am so sorry. I really don't expect you to read it all. lol I just ended up typing a lot and idk

I said before I like to tussle and I meant it! I think this is the first time I’ve ever had someone put forth a very articulate, detailed argument for what they believe and are coming from AND give the disclaimer that art (pun intended) is subjective and we come away with it with different things.

I still categorically disagree on every front lmao, but for the record— I really respect it and respect even more you actually came back to dialogue. Discourse is bad except when it’s good!!

There would be too much to cover point by point but to the credit of your explanation and in wanting to step up, I do some have big things that I diametrically see things differently:

I think the queer subtext is about as subtle as a brick lmao; it’s intentional and rightfully so, though it’s fascinating to me how we came to separate conclusions

Most notably, I did not read Art as uninterested in girls at all from almost any interaction he had. I have my own Theories of Art and his relationship with Patrick (of which is categorically queer, though admittedly complicated.)

To me, Patrick is unequivocally in love Art and has been since they were kids. Art, as evidenced by Tashi asking what happened between the two of them in the hotel, Patrick looking to Art to hear his answer and Art immediately dismissing it. It’s not to say that he doesn’t have (untangled, unformed, unrealized) feelings for Patrick (at least growing up) but from the moment he was aware of Tashi— which I took the tennis attention in the exact opposite way, in that was his drawing point to her as a form of sexual attraction— he only had eyes for her. He wanted her. He wanted her number. He wanted Patrick to throw the game like he promised so he could go out with her. But in my Theories (which feels subtextual, if not actual Text), Patrick was clearly the more outgoing, more sexually expressive, better tennis player, better.

It’s why, when Art asks about what happened between Patrick and Tashi and there’s that look afterwards, I absolutely read it as jealousy— but of Patrick being with Tashi, rather than Patrick himself. Romantic, sexual, it’s evident to me from the moment he saw her what he felt for her.

Tangentially, and this is really pedantic, it’s actually not very clear from the movie how long Patrick and Tashi dated, much less that they were together for a year. If anything from real world subtext, we know they met at the 2006 juniors US Open, which is typically held in June. Stanford’s fall quarter in 2006 started in August. Considering it’s 3 years later (2009), when Tashi and Art see each other again, this has to mean her accident happened in the fall of 2006– making it that Patrick and Tashi dated (long distance) at best, six months if we assume her accident happened at the very latest in November.

This isn’t to say Patrick and Tashi didn’t have something. They did! But there’s nothing to tell us that Patrick and Tashi were serious, as Patrick admitted himself. They liked each other! They liked the sex! But while Tashi isn’t the love of Art’s life at this point, she’s not Patrick’s either imo.

Moving away from a framing of Tashi as an object of affection and more as she is as a person, I really think we’d just have to agree to disagree when it comes to how she approaches relationships— particularly her relationship with Art. Tashi already had someone who could’ve kept her close to tennis, and was good at it— it’s Art who convinced her to coach him. Tashi doesn’t strike me as the kind of person to settle or accept anyone— much less a man— into her life, to marry and then choose to have a child with, solely for the sake of a potential grand slam. She’s Tashi Duncan, she could’ve had that with anyone and arguably— was on her way to. Art even says that the girl she was coaching likely had a better a chance than he did.

Whatever she feels for Art— of which I do believe it’s love, in her own way— I cannot reconcile the woman I saw on screen with someone who would shackle herself to any kind of heteronormative conventions or because it’s the right thing to do. (And while I don’t read this as your interpretation, I personally immediately get itchy when a Black woman in fiction is believe to be ace/aromantic— particularly in a piece of media with two mlm because that’s what fandom always does as a means of “getting her out of the way”)

Tashi wanted him, and we know because she’s with him— long before he was good at tennis by the end of the movie— and her agency in choosing him feels important to acknowledge— not as a proxy for tennis, or because she can’t have Patrick— but for the qualities that she at least at 23ish desires and wants from him. And then even as an adult, she’s categorically a good, loving mother and even says to Patrick— in their argument in the car when he asks if she came to fuck him to make sure he throws the game— “if that’s what it takes” which! Is so compelling to me that she spends the whole movie not telling Art she loves him and yet when she’s standing in front of Patrick, everything about her body language, her words, her tone, speaks to affection and love she has for him as a person.

I don’t think that has nothing to do with tennis, but I also cannot reconcile that it has nothing to do with her love for Art as a person and her life partner.

Tashi is also a cheater, twice over. Duality! Which if you knew me you’d know how ironic that is since I’ve spent YEARS expressing my disdain for cheating. Even in her cheating with Patrick, I personally don’t read that as long standing love or affection, or even sexual dissatisfaction (which is absolutely in the script but notably NOT in the movie at all, even in subtext), but low moments. She sees Patrick just seconds after seeing that racist bitch Mueller at Wimbledon. To our knowledge, she only ever sees Patrick again years later— and fucks him again, this time in another low moment when her husband thinks he’s going to retire.

I definitely agree that even these framings are nuanced and contextual, and that none of these characters are so simplistic to just be boiled down to villains or angels. They’re far more complex than that and that we can have this kind of discussion is proof of that.

I’m gonna be thinking about this movie for ages.

Tumblr glitched while I was trying to answer this, but thankfully I took a screenshot of everything before refreshing because I legit cannot find that draft or question anywhere now, sorry. So here we go again...

I'll link to the post here. (btw any annoyance that might seep into my tone in my recent answers is NOT directed at the actual people asking... y'all are lovely). So that post is done in a very similar tone to the Ryden primers that the pre-split fandom posted, but I'm getting the sense that this is very very different... like that person seems to actually believe the content that they're posting is straight up facts (and even if they don't, the fact that you're referring to it as "infamous" probably implies that other people are at least treating it as real facts, so I'm still going to address it like the tone is serious). Here's an explanation of how the majority of the fandom used to view Ryden.

I suppose that the tone of someone's comments is open to interpretation, so idc as much about whether those are misread or not.

That supposed AIM convo was shared as a myspace bulletin by Brent's brother Blake during the summer 2006 season when he was trying to stir up shit and was busy posting other inaccurate info too. I'm just saying to take it with a grain of salt.

Ryan’s lj post on 9/27/05 was about the release of AFYCSO that day. He talked a lot in interviews that season about how it was weird for him to see so many fans singing his lyrics back to him.

uhh most of the pictures that this person lists "from this era" of 2004/2005 are actually from 2006. so they definitely know what they're talking about here lol.

they list one of Ryan's livejournal posts and then say "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I know it was some time in 06." It was from June 24, 2006.

fans would positively scream when Ryan & Brendon approached each other, especially in the last half of 2006. this moment in Munich in October 2006 seemed no different... the guys absolutely knew what they were doing.

the VMA performance just seemed like Ryan was still using Brendon as a safe space to look at so he wouldn't stare at his feet or guitar, but that is still very much something you could turn into a Ryden thing so carry on haha.

omg Ryan's tattoos are not about Brendon. Those are Tom Waits lyrics. Ryan was good friends with Thomas Dutton. About a year before getting the tattoos, Ryan was hanging out with him on tour in the UK and later told Kerrang that “a friend of mine in Forgive Durden turned me on to Tom Waits when we were in the UK… I’ve been listening to him ever since. His voice is so rough and dark. I’d never really heard anything like that.”

the sharing beds idea was misunderstood in the Billboard interview... all 4 guys slept on bunkbeds in the same room when they were recording AFYCSO. That's what Brendon's referring to.

re: the Bishop Gorman tshirt… Ryan was hardly that size in high school. But Brent went to Bishop Gorman too (and so did Paulina, who was also friends with Brendon). Brendon did borrow some of Brent’s stuff in 2004/2005 (like money for food while they were first touring). Just saying… it's def interesting, but it’s not an automatic Ryden connection.

I didn't read Spencer's tone in that out.com interview the same way... there's some relevant bits in this post.
