Okay but Diego. Diego just wants to protect people, save JFK and go back to "slit Hitler's throat off with a butter knife". Bro wants to keep everyone safe and happy.
He's a sweetheart and I love him your honour.

Love your fics so much good lord 🫶🏻 especially your latest smut one. Which made me remember how S3 had some kinda unnecessary sex jokes.. like when Klaus told Five about Lila and Diego doing it one the stairs and Five said yeah I get it everybody was banging everybody last night 😭 kinda had to imagine Five and his wife drinking and spending the night together as well and getting the love he deserves. Not sure if its a smut request you’re interested in but i loved the wedding episode.
Awh- thanks. You're a sweetie! ❤️ I stuck a little twist on this one- I hope that's ok! I have a quirk as an author in that I don't like to explicitly contradict canon plus I would like Five to be physically 18+ canonically when I write about him. We have fluff and mild, romantic smut. Schmaltzier than I'd usually produce, but we all need a little schmaltz now and again.
If Tonight Was Our Last | Five Hargreeves/ F Reader 2.4k words, Rated M
Tumblr media
All in all, Diego and Lila’s wedding had been like them: informal, loud and chaotic. The ceremony part was executed in the courthouse as quick as humanly possible in order to get to the important part: dancing and partying in the punk nightclub they’d hired for the evening.
Five hovered awkwardly by the bar. He was wearing what, on reflection, was an entirely inappropriate tuxedo and was becoming uncomfortably sweaty. He watched the crowd dancing to The Sex Pistols, Lila jumping and headbanging with a crazed look in her eye and Diego drinking shot after shot with Luther. He himself ordered a martini and was stirring it with his olive awkwardly, wondering when he could justify leaving.
There was a joy in being part of this family that Five didn’t always appreciate: it presented him countless opportunities to exercise his brain with a conundrum. He knew that spending over forty years in the apocalypse was preferable to both, but whether Lila and Diego's wedding was worse than Luther and Sloane’s, he couldn’t yet decide.
But when his eyes found you, screaming along with Johnny Rotten about how the queen of England wasn’t a human being, he knew that this sweaty, musty club was the only place in the world he’d choose to be right now. You caught his eye, face lighting up and worked your way across the dancefloor towards him. On the way, you stole a tequila slammer off the tray beside Luther and presented it to Five.
Before you pulled him onto the dancefloor with you, he knocked back the shot and chased it with his remaining half martini. Perhaps it was the booze or maybe your hyperactive vibes were infectious, because Five let loose and spent the rest of the night dancing along with The Clash. He got bashed and buffeted by the crowd and his siblings. Since then, Five had drunk heavily. Even if he had a slow start, he more than caught up with the rest of you.
He kissed you several times throughout the evening, when his adrenaline was high and the music pumped with it through his veins. The kisses were hard, boisterous and joy-filled. Once, he lifted you off your feet with the force of it, earning him a small shove from Diego for ‘lowering the tone of the evening’.
Viktor, the only one of you who stayed sober enough to be responsible, had shepherded first Lila and Diego to their hotel room, and then everyone else back to the Academy. He left you and Five still drinking in one of the lesser-used sitting rooms that was occupied by Reginald in years gone by.
A large order of fries and the journey home had sobered you up, but Five’s hand swayed as he tried to pour a glass of his father’s cognac, spilling it all over the side table.
“Ah shit. That was Hennesy,” he murmured, regretfully, wiping it up with a bar towel. He’d already discarded his jacket and now his hand fumbled at his bow tie, removing it and tucking into his pants pocket.
“You shouldn’t have any more,” you said, from the armchair. Your voice was slightly hoarse from having to shout to be heard all night, “you’ve been drinking like it’s your last night on earth.”
Five returned to the handsome chaise lounge with the little drink he’d managed to successfully pour, laughing softly.
“No I haven’t. That was the last wedding I went to.”
“Luther and Sloane’s?” you asked, tentatively.
Five nodded.
He didn’t like to talk about it often. The period following his return to 2019 was a chaotic tumble through timelines and apocalypses. You knew Luther and Sloane got married under the impression that they would all die the next day, but you hadn’t ever asked Five for details. Tonight, however, he seemed open to it.
“When you got twenty-four to forty-eight hours left to live,” he said, laughing reminiscently, “there’s no point in holding back.
I sorta remember making this…punch out of vodka, gin, coconut rum and god knows what else. I drank the whole bowl," he laughed, "Well, wouldn’t you? ” he asked, catching your disapproving eye.
You rocked your head from side to side, weighing it up.
“Probably,” you admitted, “I just don’t like to think about it. As it turned out, you all survived anyway. But that would have been no good if you died from alcohol poisoning.”
He took your hand in the gap between the two pieces of furniture.
“Well, I’m glad I didn’t, but right then it seemed like a good option.”
You caught his eyes, deep tonight, and saw that he wasn’t as drunk as you thought. His lips twitched into a sad smile as he continued.
“I guess I had nothing else to do. They were all pairing off: Luther and Sloane, Lila and Diego, Klaus and alternate Ben-” he caught your expression and amended himself, “-I don’t mean boning, necessarily…” and then he looked nauseated, “oh god, I really hope not, anyway.”
“You’re a weird family,” you said, matter-of-factly.
“That we are.” he agreed, “At least four of them were going at it, anyway, and there I was trapped in the body of an extra from Bugsy Malone: hormonal, horny as hell and living the last few hours of my life. What is a self-respecting guy supposed to do?”
“Drink and jerk off?”
“Drink and jerk off, correct. You know me so well.”
You smiled, leaned over and poured yourself a small cognac.
“Sounds lonely for your last night on earth.”
He shrugged, reciprocating your raised glass to him before you took a sip. The honey-smelling warmth of the cognac went down nice and easy, even after the tequila and fries.
Five looked into his drink.
“What would you do?” he said, almost too quietly to hear, “on your last night on earth, I mean.”
You don’t hesitate, “I’d spend it with you.”
He smiled down into his glass. It’s one of his arrogant smiles masking the real emotion beneath.
“Of course you would.”
You could always tell when he was hiding emotion by the spots of delicate color he developed high in his cheeks.
“And what about you?” you asked, gently.
He considered, the smile still playing around his lips.
“I’d probably drink and jerk off.”
You laughed and stretched out in the chair, closing your eyes and enjoying the feeling of being there with him. After a quiet minute, his voice sounded again.
smut below cut
“I’d make love to you.”
You turned your head to look at him, still starting into his drink. It’s not a term you’d ever heard him use before. In day-to-day conversation, he referred to sex as ‘boning’, ‘banging’ or occasionally used a trite metaphor like ‘making the beast with two backs.’ Even in the throes of passion, you’d only ever heard him say that he wanted to ‘fuck’ you.
He looked at you, eyes speaking a depth of feeling you hoped you would never be able to fully share. The look in his eyes brought home the weight of what he was saying: Five knew what it was to face the end of everything. He was saying this with that experience behind him.
“If tonight was our last, I’d want you to know what you mean to me…except words can be blunt instruments, so I’d want to show you…”
He trailed off.
You put down your drink and, drawn like a magnet to his bared vulnerability, joined him on the couch. Eyes not leaving this, you raised your hand to cup his face. As he closed his eyes, you kissed him on the corner of his mouth, hoping that the touch of your lips against him conveyed what you were feeling.
With his eyes still closed, he leaned into your touch almost wearily, rubbing his cheek against your hand and letting out a long breath through his nose.
“Show me now,” you whispered, “as if tonight was our last night.”
Slowly, his eyes fluttered open, and he fixed you with his unwavering gaze. Though the room was dimly lit, what little light there was reflected in his eyes. Without another word, he leaned in and pressed his mouth to yours in a soft, tender kiss. His warm lips brushed yours, feather-light. You responded to him eagerly, meeting his affection with your own and wrapping your arms tightly around his neck.
He deepened the kiss, hands beginning to roam. He caressed you, palms exploring the contours of your body; the landscape of hills and valleys. Though he’d done this countless times before, his touch felt somehow new: sending trembling, fluttering energy across your body. His breath was sweet, tasting of the cognac: you felt and savored the warmth of his mouth on yours
As the kiss reached its peak, you felt a rush of emotion you hadn’t expected: though he was gentle, cherishing and loving, you could nevertheless feel a flavor of desperation behind this kiss. It was as if this really was it; as if tonight really was the last night. He was right: words weren’t enough, and this was the most important thing you and he would ever say to each other.
His fingers became more urgent, slipping beneath your shirt to feel the warmth of your skin beneath. You raised your arms and he lifted it carefully over your head, unable to resist leaning in and peppering your newly exposed skin with kisses before he fully removed it.
Meanwhile, one of your hands popped open the buttons of his shirt while the other traced the lines of his chest and pectorals. When his stomach was revealed, you pulled the fabric apart and snaked both hands in, reveling in his warmth and the soft smattering of hair disappearing into his pants.
Your hands moved in unison, undressing each other with sensual eagerness: not too fast, not too slow, only keen to feel each new inch of flesh as it was exposed. As he reached around to unhook your bra, you worked on freeing him from his pants. You could already feel the arousal beneath.
Before you could remove the fabric around him, he leaned in and captured your newly bared nipple, gently licking and sucking on it. You couldn’t help but moan, even despite the necessity of keeping your voice low. His hand came to rub and softly press your other breast, feeling your shape in the palm of his hand.
At last, you pulled him from his pants, stroking his shaft gently and feeling him grow even harder at your touch. His breath stuttered around your breast.
At last, you sat beside each other naked. His kisses felt like moths’ wings across your breasts, your collarbone, your neck. He leaned towards you, urging you gently backwards until your back hit the velvet of the chaise. You pulled him to you and kissed him again, caressing his lips with your own. When he pulled back, you were surprised to see tears pricking the corner of his eyes.
When he spoke, looking at you with those earnest, sad eyes, it was in a whisper. You had the sense that he didn’t trust his voice any louder.
“If tonight were our last night, I’d want to kiss you like that.”
You stroked his face again and he briefly closed his eyes, one of the tears forming into a drop and running slowly down his cheek. When he opened them, he shifted his kneeling position and you spread your thighs to accommodate him.
“What else would you do?” you asked, your own voice not much more than a whisper.
He lowered himself so that your bodies were pressed together, skin on skin and warmth on warmth.
“I’d want you like this,” he said, “I’d want to be inside you.”
You wrapped your legs around him, pulling him gently to you and entwining your body with his. He entered you slowly and you let out identical exhales. It was a feeling like coming home after a long day. Five gave a pleasurable wince as the clenching of your walls had its effect on him: perfect intensity.
As he moved in you, as you moved together, every caress was a whispered affirmation of love; every twinge of pleasure a promise kept. Each of his slow, sensual thrusts was a pledge of undying devotion. The slow build of your orgasm was a life of love and loyalty spent together.
He buried his head in your neck, simultaneously breathing you in and hiding his tears. Your arms wrapped themselves over his back, your hand finding the back of his head and holding him safely to you as, inside you, the twin heats of love and of pleasure bloomed.
“I’ve got you, baby.” you whispered, inhaling the clean smell of his hair.
With your arms and legs wrapped around him this way, you met his hips with your own, giving him the same promises he gave to you. You kissed his temple, wrapping yourself around him more snugly. Wrapped in the warmth of your shared love, your bodies writhed together. From his stuttering breath and increasing tension, you could tell he was nearing his peak. You could feel his heart beating against your chest like that of a small animal.
He gave an ecstatic cry and exploded inside you, body shuddering in the current of his release. As he came, he kissed and licked at your neck, unrefined and uncontrolled but desperate to taste some part of you. Finally, he collapsed onto the couch, his full weight upon you, trying to catch his breath in short gasps.
“If tonight was our last night,” he mumbled, after a few moments to compose himself, “I’d want to savor it. I'd hope not to come after two minutes like that.”
You smiled into his hair.
“Lucky tonight isn’t our last night,” you said.
Responding to the pang of shame in his voice, however, you continued more seriously.
“If tonight was our last night, I’d die happy after that. No, really,” you said, responding to his disbelieving snort, “that was…”
You didn’t need to finish. The awe and love in your tone was enough of a balm.
You could lie here forever with his warm weight on top of you, your bodies still connected with him still inside you. You could be happy here, with his breath in your ear and your hand in his hair. If tonight was your last night, you would have lived a whole lifetime in it.

Fear.
That’s all you could feel.
“Somebody help him!” You shouted, dropping down to his side. You pull back his shirt to find blood staining his skin and his face an unnatural pale color.
“Five!” You shout, cupping his face with your hands. “Why wouldn’t you say something? Are you insane?”
“Sorry, pretty girl, but you have to keep going… so close,” He whispers before passing out.
“Five!” You continue to shout. “We need to get help!” You said, spinning to face Allison and Diego. They both nod, helping to pick him up and take him back to the car.
You lay his head on your lap as the other two get in the front and begin to drive. You run your anxious hands through his hair, feeling them shake as he gets paler by the second. Stupid Five and his god complex, his need to save the world. For once, he could just put himself first. You swear Five stresses you out more than any other person you’ve met. And yet, in that stress, you found comfort in him. He was the one person you felt safe with, the person you trusted with your life.
He was like your better (maybe bitter) half.
“You’re gonna be okay, Five,” You whisper, though you’re not sure who you’re trying to convince more, him or yourself.
When you get back to the Academy, Allison and Diego carry him in as you look for Grace.
“We should’ve taken him to the hospital,” Allison said.
“A kid with a shrapnel wound might raise some questions.”
“Yeah, well, so does the shrine in Harold Jenkins's attic,” Allison quips back.
“Guys!” You scream, waving at the boy. “Five?”
“Grace!” Diego calls out, searching for his mom. She rounds a corner smiling at Diego, who points towards Five, she nods, taking him from Allison, and you follow her upstairs.
Grace sets the boy down on the bed softly as you grab a chair and sit in the corner, trying not to disturb her work. The whole time your knee bounces with fear as you stare at him.
He actually looks peaceful when he sleeps.
When Grace finishes up, she smiles at you, squeezing your shoulder and reassuring you before stepping out and offering you some privacy.
You’re grateful for that because you had a lot to say to the unconscious boy.
You pull your seat closer to him, grabbing his hand and softly kissing it. “You’re an idiot, you know,” You start. “Would it kill you to be selfish just once? You’re just so… annoying! You run around trying to save everyone but yourself. What happens if that gets you killed? Then what? And I don’t want to hear that ‘I’ve lived a long life’ bullshit. I think… I think we deserve a long life together. I deserve to get to wake up with you every morning and make fun of your coffee addiction and… and love you.”
You sigh, squeezing his hand and blinking away the tears. It was weird admitting how you felt towards the bitter old man. You were sure the only person he loved was Delores anyway. Which was why it’s good he passed out.
“I guess what I’m trying to say is if I’m going to keep having these stupid feelings for you, you gotta stop getting yourself shot at. Or I’ll shoot you myself.”
“You go on about me not dying and then threaten to kill me?” A voice chuckles. “Kind of thrown for a loop here. Which one do you want?”
Your breath hitches in your throat when you see a pair of green eyes set on yours. “You’re awake!”
You wrap your arms around the boy, careful of his wound, while also trying to pull him as close to you as possible. He responds just the same, wrapping an arm around you.
But then you pull back with wide eyes. “How much did you hear?”
Five just shrugs with a mischievous grin. “Oh, I don’t know. I really liked the part about living a long life together and coffee addiction, oh, and—”
You cut him off with a flushed face. “I get it! Just… shut up and kiss me.”
Five’s hand is quick to find the back of your neck, pulling you closer as your lips meet in a tender kiss. Your hands cup his cheek as you press against him. He tastes like coffee, which you expected, but you could grow to like coffee if it’s like this.
He pulls back before going in for one more sweet peck and then lays back on the bed. His green eyes trace your face, and you feel embarrassed under his gaze.
“What?” You ask with a light scoff.
“Nothing,” He says. “Need cuddles.”
His hand finds yours, bringing you back towards him, and you let him pull you into his chest. His arm wraps around your shoulder as you lean your head on him with a content sigh.
“I promise to stop almost getting shot at,” Five says.
“Go—”
“After the apocalypse.”
You don’t bother arguing with him, considering you’d be dead whether he did this or not. Instead, you press a kiss to his neck. “Okay.”
He hums, pressing his own kiss to your forehead. “And then you can shoot at me all you want.”
“Even better deal.”
“Yeah, I figured you’d like that one, pretty girl.”
“Only when it comes to you, pretty boy.”

I saw @lookingforhappy’s art of Five holding Diego and Lila’s child and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since so here are some scrambled thoughts about Uncle Five:
- Post S3, Five eventually manages to track down Diego and Lila because let’s face it, Lila’s the only one to ever seem to know what she’s doing and Five needs someone with at least half a brain cell right now
- He ends up staying with them; where else is he going to go? He’s a 13-year-old senior citizen who apparently can no longer teleport, so it’s not like he has many options that won’t raise a LOT of eyebrows
-Five finds out about Lila’s pregnancy when Diego accidentally leaves his copy of “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” in the bathroom
-Diego’s embarrassed, Lila’s pissed, but Five just mumbles a rough-but-sincere “Congratulations” and lets the matter drop entirely
-Months go by, and Lila starts to show. Diego is becoming increasingly both excited and flustered, and this manifests in quite a few late-night drinking sessions with Five
-“I just want to be a good dad, you know?” Diego admits around a beer. “Better than we had, at least.”
-And Five means it when he replies: “You will be.”
-But aside from those moments, Five really isn’t too involved with the preparations for the baby. He has more pressing matters to attends to, the Hargreeves-themed universe reset and his own disturbing lack of powers being at the top of the list
-Diego’s at the store when Lila’s water breaks, though, and Five is the only one there to help
-Five is a high-trained assassin with years behind the trigger, has killed more people than he can count, and saved the world from 3 separate apocalypses. Getting Lila to the hospital proves to be the scariest moment of his entire life
-But he does, and he sits anxiously in the waiting area until Diego arrives, the hurriedly scribbled note reading “BABY” Five had left for him clutched in his hand
- Diego follows a nurse into the hospital room, and Five is alone. He has nothing to do but wait
- Eventually, Diego stumbles out of the room with an expression Five has never seen on his face: shock, terror, exhaustion, but most of all…breathless joy
- “It’s a boy.”
- Soon, Five is allowed into the room as well. He sees the tiny bundle in Lila’s arms, and something clicks
-Five is an uncle.
-He knew he was already, he knew about Claire, but never seeing her in person made her more of an idea in Five’s mind than anything else. Something he was working towards - Claire was the representative of the future
-But Lila now holds Five’s nephew right in front of him, and it’s like he forgets how to breathe. He can’t find anything to say as he gapes at the baby, so Lila speaks for him
-“Come on, old man, don’t you want to hold him?”
-And before he can comprehend anything else, Five is oh-so-carefully lifting the infant from Lila’s arms, not sure how firmly he should be cradling the baby and absolutely terrified of hurting him
-A part of Five wonders why Diego and Lila trust him to even be near their child - they know how many people he’s killed, they know his penchant for violence. He’s taken so many lives, does he really deserve to bear witness to this new one?
-But then he’s sitting in the chair against the wall with his nephew in his arms, with Lila next to him and Diego’s hand on his shoulder, and Five feels tears on his cheeks for the first time in at least twenty years.
-Because this boy…he is the reason. He is what Five has been fighting for all this time. This baby is his sibling’s son, which means Five saved them. He gave them a future. The proof is right there in front of him.
-And he’d do it again a million times over.
-“His name is Five.” Lila whispers beside him.
-“What?”
-“No, I’m joking. It’s Stanley.”

ii. SO, HOW SHOULD i begin this?
part two woo. hopefully i'll be able to catch up on this and maybe publish some other stuff now that i'm home a lot more often (yay pain and mobility issues), maybe some arcane stuff since that would be fun, branching out into my last hyperfixation again lol. i've proofread so it should be good :>
pairing : five hargreeves x male/transmasc reader [he/him pronouns]
─────
where : after trying and sort of succeeding to get on the hargreeves' good side, five and [y/n] try rationalizing the situation and figuring out something, anything, to do about it.
─────
warnings : mentions of trauma, threats [of physical violence and murder], reader is still totally exhausted because how could he not be, depression, dissociation, pain, bits of shouting, not necessarily a warning but viktor is always viktor in the multiverse because the boy deserves it okay, existentialism, philosophical nihilism, family issues.
Tumblr media
five adjusted his clothes in the mirror. although he wouldn't be able to have a proper retirement, he could look like a retired old man, couldn't he? who would've thought that someone could get so excited for beiges and tans. he got an amused look of subtle approval from you. beyond that, it wasn't very hard to look past your façade if he was being honest, you looked hesitant; though could he blame you? there were probably millions of worlds where his family fucked you over or just straight-up killed you. and yet, you also looked too tired to care. he couldn't blame you for that, either.
he touched your shoulder again. in a flit of light, which once again made you feel horribly nauseated and woozy, you were downstairs. surprised exclamations roused from his family.
"anyone know where vanya and allison are?" five asked, glancing with narrowed eyes across the lacking table.
"nope." and after that short reply diego went back to finishing off his meal—for someone who often scarfed his meals down, he seemed to be taking his sweet time. either that or your fun conversation with five had not taken as long as you'd thought; either possibility was equally likely at this point, really.
"nuh-uh... sorry."
"not a clue, unfortunately. something wrong, tiny dancer?" klaus asked.
"well, we have a new problem."
"who's this guy?" luther pointed at you wish his thumb, not caring to cover his mouth; your nausea was worsened to see someone talking whilst eating. diego looked at you then, and you hated how his glare bore straight through your soul. he really, really didn't seem to appreciate your presence. how both of them could so willingly ignore the phrase 'we have a problem,' especially from five, was unknown to you.
"this is [y/n]. he's one of the sparrows."
you waved once to everyone. whether the sluggishness of the motion, and the weak smile which accompanied it, was due to shyness or exhaustion was incredibly murky and unclear.
"so now we're getting all buddy-buddy with the enemy? do you know how stupid that is?"
"i'm sorry, diego, did you not hear me say that we have a problem?"
"well, you say that a lot, little brother!" klaus leaned forward to see you clearer, giving you a smile. it didn't really placate your anxieties or your strong desire to run, however it was appreciated. he waved, and you again waved back politely, still feeling very... guilty for your earlier flub. it wasn't a new thing, either, and that made you feel even worse. "hello, little enemy! how do you look so young? do you use those, like, '10 years younger' face creams? i didn't know they worked that well—"
"that is not a relevant question, klaus, now can someone please tell me where allison and vanya are?"
you cleared your throat slightly. "vanya is most likely getting a haircut. allison is trying to get to claire, but she's... not going to find her." it left a bitter taste in your mouth to refer to viktor in such a disrespectful way, but you couldn't take that from him. upon receiving suspicious stares from the younger hargreeves brothers, you mumbled a quiet "maybe."
"mind telling us what the hell is going on before i deck this mini-muffin across the lobby?"
"hey, hey, do not use mini-muffin as an insult! those are beautiful things, there's nothing better than mini-muffins when you're on a bender at, like, three in the morning!" klaus got a confused and heavily judgmental look in return for that... beautiful insight.
"[y/n] has the ability to see all other timelines, so he can usually find out the most probable events. okay? good. now i need to find allison, so can one of you fetch vanya, please?"
"no, not good, and no thanks! after all we've gone through, we deserve a proper explanation!" klaus objected. after a second or two of awkward silence, and a scowling glare from five, he gave in with a curt sigh. it sounded more like a groan. the brothers looked at you; klaus was the only one to seem patient, showing the approval of a parent understanding a kid's fear of giving a speech; luther stared at you with a puzzling mix of intrigue and subtle impatience; and diego stared at you with a raised eyebrow, leaning his head in slightly as if to say 'i'm waiting.' five's glare, although still quite characteristic, was a bit softer when aimed at you. you could never feel more put on the spot.
"you've gotta say something, little man, we can't read your mind," klaus encouraged.
"well, uh... i don't know exactly what it is yet, but something is wrong."
"aren't you omniscient or some shit? you can see literally every reality!"
the shouting scared you quite a bit and certainly made your headache worse. you put one of your hands to your head, mumbling, wishing you could just get some painkillers. if only five had given them back.
"don't shout, for fuck's sake," five grumbled, annoyed in his own right.
"i'm not omniscient. if no other worlds know something, then i can't, and... no other world knows yet. but something is wrong." your quiet voice was juxtaposed to diego's, still loud and stubborn like back in the academy. around 79.4 percent of every single alternate world which had diego in it found him like this, angry and short-tempered; it was very interesting. "you aren't supposed to be here. you guys, as you are, don't exist here. i don't think reality appreciates you showing up all of a sudden. and if versions of yourselves already exist in this world, then something will need to... iron out the wrinkles, i guess." you pursed your lips for a second. "not to be too brash or anything, but, to really, really dumb it down, you're a mis—you're mistakes."
"seriously? five, i thought you said that this timeline would be safe to stay in." luther looked like a scolded puppy. you felt bad. he was far too sweet—naive? yes, naive—for this kind of life.
"yes, that's what i thought, but second opinions are pretty valuable in my line of expertise. turns out it was sorely needed." his brows pricked up a few times while he spoke. "but, like you said before, it may be a problem we can solve."
diego remained, unsurprisingly, unswayed. "you better not be including this wad of chewed gum in that 'we,' five."
"what is with you and insulting him? he wants to help. jesus christ."
"last time i checked, his entire family just kicked our asses out of our own house, i have a right to be pissed, and he's lucky i'm in no killing mood."
"i don't agree that he should be killed," luther began in solidarity, "but we have a reason not to trust him, right?"
you took a little breath and exhaled it in a quiet sigh. "i know my family can be... extreme. and bad sometimes. trust me. and i totally understand how you can be angry with them and with me and think that i'm not honest. but i never hurt anyone, and i want to help you guys. you're eccentric yourselves, but usually you're good people. you're, like, an actual family," you added, trailing off, "not a group forced to stay together for monetary gain."
five squinted at you slightly. was that one of the reasons you chose not to grow up? you couldn't be associated with the sparrows if you were half their age. throw on a pair of sunglasses and nobody could recognize you.
jeez. didn't that sound nice.
"you guys really deserve a place to rest. a stable place to live, even. and if we can figure this out, then maybe you won't have to live in constant fear of coming into contact with your doppelganger or something. live, like, normal lives. as normal as they can be, anyway."
diego, much to your surprise, seemed to listen to what you were saying. sure, he still looked quite ticked-off and impatient, but you couldn't really ask for too much from him, could you?
"and you're sure that this is a problem we can actually solve? for good?"
"i'm not exactly sure what the problem even is yet. all i know is that something is wrong. but every problem has a solution, even if it seems impossible sometimes." there was a twinge of sage, melancholic hopelessness somewhere in there, some subtle disbelief. "five is quite the expert in timelines and time travel-related problems and paradoxes, and i'm an expert in alternate realities and manipulating reality itself. if anyone can figure it out, i'm sure we can. and i have no doubt that all of you will also play large parts."
luther's face was screwed into an expression of brazen confusion. "so... we're, like, completely blind, and need to fight an enemy we know absolutely nothing about."
"pretty much," you mumbled.
"surprisingly poetic way to put that, luther, i'm impressed," five mused rather sarcastically. "unfortunately, however, it seems we're gonna have to do something terrible and unprecedented." perhaps for dramatic effect, perhaps to quell his own annoyances, he paused and sighed out a breath. "we're going to have to work together." he did not need to specify the parties specified in 'together.'
"well, personally, i think this is a splendid idea. perfect opportunity for family bonding, i'd say! we're surrounded by decent chinese food and competent beds and cable television. decent music, too! and diego can finally figure out some self-discipline by not constantly threatening to kill [y/n]! marvelous idea little ones." admittedly, klaus's unique way of talking and gesturing was quite calming to you. you were very grateful for him. oddly enough—maybe you should've stopped saying that when it came to the umbrellas—klaus seemed to be that pillar of tranquility for you. viktor as well.
"calm down, calm down. you know that he won't turn against us or whatever? you're sure?"
the question was directed at five but you answered for him. "i'm not strong and i've never been in good health. even christopher, without his powers, would be better at fighting you than i would."
"the fucking cube?" you nodded. he plastered a grin over a pouting scowl. he sighed, giving into the plan. perhaps some remaining distrust still lingered, however, he could deal with it. "we've gotta clue allison and vanya in now. i'll go get vanya."
"finally," five huffed, shaking his head. "i'm going to find allison. you said she's going to try and find claire? i'll go to her old house." and then, the next second, he was gone. a few seconds of... incredibly awkward silence passed, where luther was staring at you whole-heartedly.
"go on and take a seat, young whipper-snapper. do you have any dietary restrictions? or allergies? we've probably got something here you can eat, if you want."
Tumblr media
you had asked to walk back home with five.
"why with me?" "it's a little bit selfish, but i really don't want to be alone right now, and you're the number one person i trust right now." "flattering," he muttered. "then why walk?" "i think better when i walk."
admittedly, walking was taxing for you right now, so it may not have been your brightest idea, but after this entire day you needed a nice break; the picturesque city sunset was nice, the breeze was subtle and sweet, and it smelled like food out there on the streets. viktor had offered to talk with marcus and try to make a deal; you'd asked him to be very, very careful. "i don't know if purposely seeking out the anomaly would be more effective, or if allowing it to reveal itself would be better. maybe we should seek it out."
five nodded slightly. "allowing it to reveal itself could mean that it becomes too powerful to stop."
"that's kind of what i was thinking. we don't know how it would reveal itself. what if it destroys something, or changes something? what if it hurts people?" your voice was quieter with that last proposition. it was the worst possible option in your mind; buildings could be rebuilt. changes could be undone, with enough time and patience. but people could not be undamaged, and they could not be brought back to life.
well, not permanently, anyway.
five's pace slowed a bit and he peered at you, strangely, for a moment. you avoided his eyes.
"surprisingly enough, i don't think this is the... worst outcome." "forgive me but i don't really believe you. we've got jack all on either side. essentially, we're alone." "you're used to it, five." "hmph. and you aren't?" "not in this way, i guess." there was more he wanted to say but you would not give him the opportunity to dig too deep. "there are worlds where your family is on board. trusts me, even, after some convincing. and there are also some where we narrow the options down. i'd love to be in one of those. but at least we aren't at each other's throats again, or diego's choking me to death." your voice soured. if you got too close, you could feel that pain. there your mind went then, trying to save your other selves out of some ethereal desperation you could never claw yourself away from.
"ow!" you hissed, clapping a hand to your neck where it had stung, sharp and sudden. "what was that?"
"you were seriously so spaced out you didn't see me?" five asked, though it barely sounded like a question. he sounded just barely concerned. you had looked like a glove without a hand. "jeez," he scoffed, shaking his head. "did you see anything helpful, at least? anything at all?"
your mind was still seared and shattered across uncountable realities and he could see that struggle to ground in your eyes. hear it in your breath. you had little mental fortitude left to respond. "sorry? can you repeat that?"
five didn't roll his eyes. unfortunately, he knew dissociation. he carefully took your hands in his, rubbing your knuckles like he'd seen you do before, and that seemed to give you... some amount of usable energy. it was also sort of difficult not to notice him, of all people, doing it, even while he sported an expression of general distaste for the situation; you couldn't tell if it was falsified or not. slowly, you were returning to your body, and it felt heavier than ever before. "what did you see?" he repeated, just as you asked, meticulously annunciating each word and using a decent pace.
you nodded slightly. "i saw a few other timelines. less fortunate ones." you didn't need to elaborate for five to understand what you were referring to. the broad strokes, anyway. "nothing really useful, though," you added after a second in total defeat.
"shit. well, that's alright." and though it clearly wasn't, you didn't say anything.
"how long have we been standing here?"
"... a minute or two."
"oh, great," you mumbled, shaking your head to yourself. your record was around two hours, sure, but it still sucked. "the... we should seek it out."
"wow. you remembered."
"we were having the same conversation a whole lot. given i was still alive and actually grew to trust you." it was a half-joke but it succeeded in getting a bare grin out of five. "we can't risk hurting other people."
"or destroying something," five added.
"or destroying something," you agreed, then furrowing your brow slightly. a cafe nearby was playing pleasant music; that was something keeping you tethered to this world in particular, as if five wasn't enough, but even he was quiet sometimes. "the only problem is we don't know where it is."
"or what it looks like. if it even looks like something at all. it could very well be invisible or incomprehensible." he scowled for a second, though not out of irritation, thinking rather loudly to himself. "we should start where we appeared, i think." you nodded in agreement. "if your... 'family' decides to work with us, all of us, then we can search a whole lot more. but we should get the basics out of the way."
"the beginning is always the most logical place to start."
"quaint way to put it, did you write the sound of music in another universe?"
"what part about 'literally any possible, feasible universe' do you not understand?" you joked, managing a small smile of your own, and five would be lying if he said he didn't feel a little bit relieved to see you humoring yourself again.
"i deserve that." he paused for a second. "i know you said that walking helps you think, and you definitely need to do that more, but you look like a dead man standing right now. i'd rather just drop you off at the academy and get back to my own family. are you okay to teleport?" you did not respond at first, taking careful account of how you felt and how you may feel after. eventually, and rather subtly, you nodded.
"my room is klaus's old room back in your universe."
"wow, that... makes it easier. safer, probably." that was the closest you were going to get to 'thank you' so you took it. you shut your eyes tight and breathed deep through that half-second nausea-bomb. you were happy to see your room when you opened your eyes; smelling like home, looking like home, feeling like pure comfort. five glanced about your room. somehow it looked exactly like what he expected from you, which was a compliment. it was cozy. well-lived—especially the bed. there were many blankets and pillows and a few stuffed animals, unmade, probably because you barely left it. he couldn't blame you, either.
looking at you, you seemed totally relieved and excited to be back home.
"are you going to let go of my hands now?"
five stiffened for a second, mumbling a hushed apology before letting go, shoving his hands in his pockets. you couldn't help but grin a little, tiredly, and he scoffed when he saw it. "don't look at me like that. i was helping you ground, since you evidently can't do it yourself sometimes." not that he could blame you, really. he couldn't imagine what it would be like to be... you.
you ignored the jab. "i'm surprised you're willing to wait to take care of this," you mumbled, hanging up your scarf and sweater, lazily rifling through your dresser to find something decently comfortable to pass out in. "you always insisted on getting things done quick. if not immediately."
"i'm desperate for one damn moment of peace. the world isn't being decimated just yet. i just want to sleep decently for once."
you smiled slightly. no one could work while exhausted, especially not when it came to your quandary. "go on and sleep then. i'll meet you at the obsidian again tomorrow."
"yeah. oh, uh, just remembered something. close your eyes for a few seconds."
"why?"
"just do it."
you scoffed, though without any sort of animosity or annoyance, shutting your eyes tight like he told you to. you heard the familiar sound of his blinking once, twice. "alright. you can look. here." he held out to you your bottle of painkillers. "nearly forgot to give them back."
"oh, sh—thank you." the relief on your face was quite plain and sort of comforting as well. he mustered a slight hum in response.
"good night."
"night, five. sleep well."
"hmph. we'll see."

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 OF TUA
Warnings: Drinking and references to smut but no actual smut.
Enjoy please
- N <3
__________________________________________
Why you had been invited to Luther’s bachelor party when you should’ve been hanging with the girls, you have no idea.
But you weren’t complaining because it means you get to spend whatever time you have left close to five.
“Can’t believe Luther is the first one of us that get hitched” says Diego, intently watching the horrible performance going on in front of you. You couldn’t blame him though, he was getting married.
Wow, Luther was getting married and you were still sitting here, hiding your feelings from the boy you wished to call your own.
Good for him
“I can, I caught him marrying action figures in ,like, third grade” Viktor adds on to his brother.
“Did not” Klaus whines.
You snuck a glance at five as he took another sip of his drink. If he kept up his pace he would be wasted by the end of the night.
But then again, he deserved it. He’s been working himself to the bone for the past 27 days.
It was when Five met your gaze that you looked away, focusing on the conversation happening around you.
“This isn’t how I pictured our bachelors party, you know?” Diego spoke again, gesturing with his hands.
Klaus added his two cents in “well, the world’s running a little short on strippers and tea cakes right now”
“Just surprised you didn’t invite daddy dearest to come join us” Five spoke up. Gosh, his voice was enough to make your knees weak.
“Oh come on. He’s such a kind and thoughtful soul He’s not like our hargreeves.” You loved Klaus don’t get me wrong but he was too trusting. He thought a man like your father could change.
You scoffed “As if, dad? Being kind?” You shook your head at that. Even if the world was ending you would never trust that man.
“Let me finish” Klaus raised his glass at you, a silent plea “but I’ll admit I needed a break from the old dog”.
Nothing I can say, total eclipse of the heart
Luther finished singing his solo, dropping the microphone on the floor as he made his way off the stage.
“What are you SOBs so down in the mouth about? This is a party” Luther takes a seat next to Viktor.
“I’m so glad we got to go out with a big ol bang while we still can” Klaus say’s. “Hey, here’s to us” he stands so abruptly you almost drop your glass.
Everybody stood from their seats to join the toast “we’ve had a hell of a run.”
A series of small “ cheers” sounded followed by the clicking of the glasses.
“Who's next?” Diego asked after he sipped his drink.
“Oh, that’d be me” Five was the last person you’d expect to take up a karaoke offer. “Cause I have finally come to a decision.”
“So what’s it going to be, maestro?”
“It’s going to be a duet my friend” You take your seat again as five and Klaus clamber onto the stage, preparing for their duet.
“Now I’ve had the time of my life.” Five began the song.
In the years of knowing him you had never heard him sing, albeit it wasn’t that good considering his (almost) drunk state.
No I’ve never felt this way before, yes I swear it’s the truth and I owe it all to you.
“I’m going to do it” you announced the decision that you settled on a while ago.
It was quite enough for Luther, Viktor and Diego to hear.
Viktor gave you a knowing look, Diego gave a small nod. And Luther looks utterly confused.
“Do what?” The man asks, to satisfy his curiosity. But you were already detached from the topic, looking over at five.
“Ohhh” You could tell he came to his senses and finally realized what you meant.
“It’s on her bucket list,” Diego added.
Five ushered Luther onto stage with them, “ Viktor, Viktor don’t be shy, you too Diego” you laughed at the siblings misfortune.
“I see you over there laughing (y/n), get up here” and he wouldn’t really need to ask you twice, he’s practically handing you the perfect opportunity.
This could be love because I’ve had the time of my life, no I’ve never felt this way before.
Yes I swear it’s the truth and I owe it all to you
Now was perfect
“Everyone I have an announcement to make” you could hear the slur in your words, you didn’t even realize you had drank that much.
The singing stopped as everyone turned their attention to you.
“Recently I have been feeling…well, feelings” Did that even make sense? “and not only is that feeling because of the new found family I have in you all” you gestured to them.
“There was also a feeling of loneliness, but that feeling went away as soon as I met this lil psychopath” you made eye contact with five and you could see the small smile gracing his features.
“You showed me a world I never thought existed and you were there when I needed you most, and now I’m seeing the world dissolve into oblivion and I’m realizing that this is the only chance I have, even if it doesn’t go my way”
You pull up your pant leg and go down on one knee, you might be making a fool of yourself but you don’t seem to care.
“Five hargreeves, I love you”
The smile fell from his face and you knew you messed up. Why would you do something so stupid?
The handler warned you that five never loved anyone but himself but you chose not to listen to her.
You stopped your little show and got off your knee and balanced yourself on both legs again. “I’m sorry that was stupid, I just didn’t want to have this burden on my heart”
“At least I could say I try” you were already planning out the rest of the night, Holed up in your designated room berating yourself for your actions.
You turned to begin the walk of shame to your room.
You were startled when five blinked in front of you. With barely anytime for you to react he pulled you in, smashing his lips onto yours.
There was no way you could describe it other than fireworks, like you two were just made for each other, made to be with each other.
The kiss was soft yet fierce at the same time, it portrayed the emotions you knew he was too afraid to show.
When he pulled away, you missed the warmth. You barely registered the siblings cheering from behind you.
“Then what are we waiting for, let’s spend whatever time we have left with each other” and with that he blinked you both out of the lounge.
You landed gracefully onto the mattress below, face up, gaining a clear view of five unknotting his tie.
Whilst his fingers worked in his tie he slotted himself between your open legs and bent to plant another kiss to your lips.
“I love you too”
This was the best way to spend your last night on earth.

The Hargreeves having a crush on you HCs
Request
A/N: So I did end up including Five in this but if I get another half-romantic request for him I probably won’t do it
Sparrow version
Masterlist
Luther Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-Luther has no intention of pursuing you as he believes you deserve better than a (in his opinion) emotionally-stunted monkey man
-But he's also completely wrapped around your finger, he just melts when you're around and does whatever he can to keep you happy
-Even when you're not around you're often consuming his thoughts, he'll have you at least at the back of his mind regardless of what he's doing
-You can fluster him extremely easily, compliments or unexpected touches leave him stumbling over his words or around the room
-You're one of the few people that can see his vulnerability and coax him out of his shell
Diego Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-Diego might seem cocky, like if he wanted something he'd go for it but he actually struggles to ask you out out of fear of you rejecting him
-He tries to impress you though his attempts have a bad habit of going wrong and embarrassing him
-He really pays attention to you and looks out for your needs, like if you seem down one day he's giving you a pep talk
-He's quite protective from offering to accompany you if you need to go out at night or go to a shifty area to him getting in arguments with people who have a problem with you
-Its pretty obvious he's sweet on you but if anyone brings it up he'll deny it and act all macho
Allison Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-Allison handles her crush with charm and casual confidence
-Odds are you'll be wooed very quickly by the sweet attention she shows you, tossing you compliments, meaningful smiles and doing nice little things to brighten your day
-She invites you out a lot, she doesn't call them dates but that's kind of what they are
-She's often dressed and styled to the nines around you which isn't significantly different than usual but she still hopes you'll notice
-She does tend to prefer to be pursued than the pursuer so for all the hints she drops she leaves you to make the first real move
Klaus Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-It's actually kind of unusual for him, sure he's been attracted to plenty of people but rarely does it develop into a full-fledged crush like it does with you, it kind of sneaks up on him
-He considers approaching you like anyone else -forward and flirty- but actually gives it a second thought, not wanting to throw away his chance or ruin your already existing relationship
-He shows surprising restraint, dropping hints and trying to gage your feelings while really he's desperate to just come out and confess
-He's sweeter than you're used to, offering to help you with various things and getting your opinion more often
-You are on the receiving end of more flirting from him than before but its not exactly out of character so you'd be forgiven for not noticing
Five Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-Well obviously you can’t reciprocate, though ironically it’s Five who thinks he’s a bit too old for you
-Even if your age situations lined up better he wouldn’t pursue you, always too preoccupied with some world-ending matter
-So for the most part he actually just avoids you where he can
-His protectiveness over you is one of the only signs, always rushing to your defense during battles and threatening enemies when your name slips out of their mouths
-Of course his siblings catch on and have a laugh about their ice cold brother having a crush
Ben Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-It’s pining turned up to 11 since he literally can’t act on his crush
-He talks Klaus’ ear off about you, partially because he wants him to understand the depth of his feelings and partially because he has no one else to talk about you to
-Klaus is a bit of a jerk about it though, teasing him in a brotherly, very Klaus-like way
-He’s incredibly observant over you, often just sitting back and admiring you
-Mentally, he’s been over dozens of ways to approach you and conversations you could have but he knows, unfortunately, it’s just fantasy
Viktor Hargreeves
Tumblr media
-He’s friends with you for a while before he falls for you and he pines for even longer after that
- You probably have no idea he likes you because -as with most things- he’s not especially expressive about it, it’s more of a quiet longing
-He spends as much time around you as possible but gets self-conscious that he’s bothering you
-You compliment him often and even though he has a hard time believing them they still give him butterflies
-You’re the only person that can make him feel special, unfortunately that’s because he thinks having you as a friend is the most special thing about him

Summary- You all go to confront Viktor as he is now the White Violin and things do not go as planned.
Tumblr media
I wish I could have been there for Viktor when he needed me we all should have been there for each other but we were all preoccupied with our own tiny lives. We should have been fighting to save the world we never should have stopped. You know what we should have never left Viktor out our whole childhood anyway! Why would we listen to some old man who adopted us purely for our powers?
All these are thoughts that flash through my mind as I feel the life drain out of me. I am frozen metaphorically and literally as I am trapped in the sky by Viktor's powers with my other siblings. I can see my siblings out of the corner of my eye their faces are a sickly grey and I am really concerned that this is how we will die. Just a bunch of bickering siblings who should have listened to our brother.
One second I am paralyzed, there is a gunshot, and we are all back on the ground. We all rush to Allison and Viktor as quickly as we can.
“I-is he still alive?” I asked feeling my heart drop as Allison cradles him and nods.
I smile widely as tears start to form in my eyes. Everyone lets out a sigh of relief that I think we have all been holding in since Luther locked up Viktor. Diego had to confirm out loud that we saved the world and we all smiled and laughed. That was until Klaus turned around and stood up pointing at the piece of Moon that was hurtling towards Earth.
“That is not good,” Luther says aloud.
I of course turn to Luther with a glare, “No shit Sherlock.”
Klaus sighs, “So much for saving the world.”
“If only Sir Reginald could see us now. The Umbrella Academy, a failure,” Diego groans.
Luther tries to console us by saying, “At least we are together.” But I can tell we are all still defeated.
Five seems to be pacing this whole conversation and finally jumps in, “This doesn’t have to be the end! I might have a way out of this but you have to trust me.”
My siblings all shrug Five off but I refuse for this to be the end. We can’t let Viktor done again. “What’s your plan Five?”
“I can time travel but this time I take all of you with me,” he responds.
I nod immediately “ I’m in!”
“Hey what's the worst that can happen” Diego shrugs.
“Well, you could end up stuck in a twelve year olds body,” Five responds.
“Dude you are not helping your case and I am already on your side,” I shake my head.
“Whatever I’m in,” Klaus responds.
Luther looks to Allison who nods and then agrees.
“Luther grab Viktor,” Five bosses.
“Should we be taking him with us isn’t he like a bomb?” Luther asks.
I practically growl at him “That is our brother!”
“Viktor will cause the apocalypse unless we take him with us and fix him” Five adds.
The Moon asteroid keeps getting closer every second we talk so Five rushes us to all get in a circle and hold hands.
“Aww Five you love us and want us to hold hands,” I tease and Klaus laughs.
“Not the time Y/N,” Five groans.
“Well, could I least have a hug? You have always been my favorite sibling and I just didn’t want to die without a hug.” I mumble out and Klaus gets offended at the favorite sibling comment.
Five rolls his eyes, “well who is being all loving now.” He says but still returns my hug.
Klaus gets jealous instantly and joins the hug “I want in on this!”
Allison smiles at Klaus’s antics and joins the hug, Diego rolls his eyes at all of us but still joins. Luther smiles and tries to join the hug to the best of his ability well carrying Viktor.
Five shakes his head “You guys are ridiculous. Now how is ready to save the world again?”

evermore | ben hargreeves x fem!reader
Y/N grew up knowing that happily ever after only exists in fairytales, until Ben makes her realize it was not.
notes: 8/9 of my 100 followers celebration! mentions of abuse and neglect. i imagine this one for umbrella!ben. au where ben doesn’t die and five doesn’t disapppear.
this pain wouldn’t be for evermore.
When Y/N was a child, she knew that she wasn’t deserving of love.
She was different from her siblings and father. They didn’t have powers, but she did. And this made her weird and not like them.
And to make matters worse, Y/N believed that she was the reason why their mother died. She died a few months after giving birth to Y/N. Though her siblings and father would never tell her this, her mother loved more than she ever loved them. She was every adamant to not sell her away when Reginald Hargreeves came knocking on their door, even when they desperately needed the money.
Her family resented her so much. They made her their maid. She cleaned, cooked, did laundry, maintained the garden, and etc. She took care of everyone in that house even when nobody took care of her.
Though, maintaining the household was not a problem for her. Since she had help. She had the ability of talking to animals. She was able to persuade them into doing what she needed them to do. She is able to talk to said animals, just to chat and talk about families as if they had been friends for decades. And that is the main reason why she never she never felt alone in this cruel world.
♡ ♡ ♡
Y/N was on her way to the market when she saw a bunch of kids who were dressed in uniforms with someone who looks like their mother.
She tried to mind her own business, buying her family’s needs and wants and trying to budget everything, she saw two boys running around, chasing one another. She slightly smiled while looking at them, feeling slightly jealous that they were able to enjoy life and just be teenagers.
She was looking to buy some lettuce when one of the boys bumped into her.
“I’m sorry! I did not see you there.”
“It’s alright, no harm done,” Y/N replied, smiling at the boy.
“I’m Klaus,” he said smiling at her, and he pointed to the other boy, “and that’s Ben.”
Y/N looked the other boy, who hasn’t said a word to her, smiling at him as well, “Nice to me you both. I need to go ahead now,” she said before going away.
“Wait!” Klaus shouted after her.
Y/N did not stop and instead walked faster. She went to the checkout lane and quickly paid for the items.
She rushed home and saw her sister waiting for her, arms crossed.
“You’re late. You’re supposed to be home five minutes ago.”
“I know. I’m sorry. I got caught up in the market.”
“You know the consequences, Y/N. No dinner for today. Go do the laundry,” her father suddenly interjected.
“Yes, Sir.”
Y/N rushed to the laundry room as she tried to breathe in and out, trying to settle her feelings down. She doesn’t want to cry. Not now, not ever. If happy endings exist in this life, she wasn’t deserving of it.
♡ ♡ ♡
Later that night, Y/N went outside to just breathe. She went to the park really hungry, seeing as they did not allow her to have dinner.
She sat on one of the benches and saw duck and as well as ducklings trying to cross the park.
“And where are you going, dearest? Do you need help?” Y/N asked to the mother duck.
The duck quacked and Y/N understood. She crouched down and opened her arms, as the ducks stepped in.
Little did she know a group of seven siblings were watching her.
♡ ♡ ♡
Two and a half years later, Y/N stood by her apartment window, looking at the sunrise.
The seven siblings did manage to track her down and they learned of her conditions. They managed to help her escape from the horrid household that she was in.
Those two years passed by quickly and not without any new relationships formed.
Y/N became best friends with Klaus and Allison. Frequently going out with the two of them.
Vanya was still shy around Y/N as if it was the first time they met. Diego and Luther were still indifferent. And Five was still insulting Y/N as the day they met.
However, with Ben, it was different.
She developed something more with Ben. The two developed a romantic type of relationship, different from what she had from the others.
Ben showed her so much love at first that Y/N felt weird at first. She never felt so much love and as well acceptance from the people around her.
“Hey, you’re already awake? It’s so early.”
Y/N turned around and saw Ben walking towards her as he wrapped his arms around her. Y/N leaned her head on his shoulder as he placed a kiss on her temple.
“Well, you’re already awake, Ben. So you can’t really blame me.”
“I woke up because you weren’t in bed anymore.”
Y/N laughed as the two remained near the window, staring at the sun that was rising.
“You know I love you right?” Ben began.
“I know. I love you too, by the way,” Y/N said, looking at him.
If you told Y/N that she was to be with the love of her life a few years back, she would have never believed you. However, things have their way of working themselves out, and this time, it was for the better.

Yandere! Five x Manipulative!Reader pt.4
a little changes for title. maybe the last part where everything is...fine so you better enjoy how this little old man have some sweet moments in his life. <3
pt.1
pt.2
pt.3
pt.5
pt.6
Tumblr media
Manipulating Five Hargreeves is definitely not easy.
I mean, this man met The Handler, Reginald Hargreeves and he used some tactics too, so he probably will not fall for this easily.
But Five knows Reginald, it's easy to understand when he manipulates someone, because Reginald is cold, and the unexpected act of affection from him is alarming. On the other hand is The Handler, who uses her power(as his boss) over Five and use his family to make him do anything that she wants.
But you. You're not like Reginald or The Handler. You're not showing affection unexpectedly only when you need something, because your affection towards someone building for years and you need some time to gain trust.
That's why Five doesn't see you as a threat like Reginald or The Handler when you first met each other. He's only wary because he had an experience with Viktor and doesn't want to repeat it in this timeline.
You look simple, good-natured and friendly. Innocent and has a lot of love and care for your family, you don't judge someone by their past or how they look. And Five wonders if that exactly what Hazel saw in Agnes?
“Good morning father.”
“Luther, here's your peanut butter.”
“Lila and you look so cute together, Diego!”
“Hello, Allison-, oh.”
“I'm a good listener, Klaus, so tell me more.”
“Lila, here, eat some salad I made for you.”
“I like your new haircut, Viktor.”
Knock knock.
“Come in.” he sighs, annoying how he can't have even a few minutes for a rest.
You quietly apologies for bothering him and slowly walks into the room.
“Five, how about to take a road trip together?”
You ask, a cup of black coffee in one hand and a plate of a marshmallow sandwich in other, holding it out to him. His heart skips after hearing this before he turns his head to see you.
“A road trip? Why?” he asks, his attention focused on some book he reading.
You chuckles quietly at his response and move closer, sitting on the bed next to him. He brushes off that strange feeling and takes a cup of coffee, biting the sandwich you made, thinking about your offer.
“Mmm,” you hums, closing your eyes for a moment. “I heard from Klaus that you take a vacation. And I thought you deserve a break, like all of us, It's also my old wish, remember?”
You look so innocent and calm now, leaning back in his bed, smiling. Five silently takes a sip of coffee, thinking about it a little more.
He really wanted something like this. He never had time to spend free time with anyone, it's fair to say that he didn't have any free time and someone, who is not his family or Delores. But why would you want this with him? You have your own siblings to be with.
“Because I want to be your friend. The end of the world is soon, so why won't you give me a chance, please? ” you said one day.
Ah, right.
He takes another bite of the sandwich and stands up, sighing again as he placed the cup somewhere on the table.
“Alright, let's do it.”
────────────────────────────────
You two were standing in front of some strange statue. You tilt your head slightly, hiding your hands behind your back, thinking about something, maybe interested in the idea of this... work.
Five stood in front of you, hands in his pockets. The silence was calm between you and it seemed like the two of you didn't mind just standing there and watching until either of you dared to take a step.
You turn your head towards him and pull out a camera that looks quite old but despite the way it looks, it's still working.
“Do you want me to take a pic? ” you ask with a sweet smile on your face.
“For what? ” he looks at you, surprised.
“For fun.” you say. He chuckles and turned away again to look at the statue.
“I don't like take a pictures.” he lies.
He could understand himself and his family when they accepted the fact that they needed to stop sawing the universe and let the apocalypse happen. But why you look so calm about it? You had a chill life before all this, while he dedicated all 40 years of being all alone, then fighting for his family without rest.
It was hard for him to believe that you, a real, living person, can have a casual small chat with him about something so insignificant, while on his shoulders he carries the burden and responsibility for a large number of corpses that he kill in past. Maybe you look so calm because you didn't know it? And If you knew will you stay with him?
He had to kill, it's between them or his family and billions of lives, so of course he choose his family over some innocent people who's just unlucky to stay on The Commission's way.
Click.
Five reacts to the sound, breaking out of his thoughts to look at the source of the sound. You. He instantly tensed up, due to the developed reaction received after working as a mercenary.
He reacted so quickly and looked afraid for a second, as if right now someone would come out of hiding and try to kill him and this endless running from danger will continue...
But you laughed softly and looked at the photo, the photo with Five. You decided to take a picture of him while he seemed so lost in his own thoughts.
“Did you just-” he shook his head, processing information, “Now give it to me, I want to see.” he says, wanting to take camera from you.
“Mmm, then try to take it.” you laugh and hide camera behind your back.
“Hey, that's not funny.” he tries to grab the camera again, leaning much closer to you, but you continue this little game.
“ Then why are you smiling? ”
────────────────────────────────
The more time you spend together, the more he gets used to you. It's still very, very hard for him to show affection.
And you help him overcome this problem. Help him to recover, at least, a tiny bit of his trauma and you knew that it helps him when you two sitting in the car, he shows you a map where he marked each roadside attraction. He looked so interested when he talked about it.
He's not ready to admit to you or anyone else that he enjoys spending time with you. That he likes to finally be in company and feel relaxed after all this time.
He knows how to love and can become attached, but after so many years spent in the struggle for life, he is afraid to be with someone, and he is also afraid that he will be found as weak because of this.
Five doesn't want to admit that Reginald influenced his character as a child.
Five doesn't want to admit that he needs praise to feel better, he is not Luther, not Number One. No, he is better.
“Wow, you really good at this.” you say, sighing.
Five stops, obviously not expecting to hear something like that. He doesn't want to show that he was somehow influenced by your words. On the outside, he still looks calm, drinking coffee and reading something while you cook.
“...Thanks, I guess.” he pauses for a moment, looking at your figure for only a second, then resumes his business.
But inside, he feels like he's a boy again, fighting for his father's attention. And he obviously doesn't like it, but he can't just get rid of this feeling. He wants more.
“I think I need to learn something from you, maybe I can do at least a little as well as you in the future? ” you continue feeding his ego.
He chuckled at your words, shaking his head slightly, either finding it funny/cute how you sincerely wanted to be like him,or deciding to mock you, because he's still arrogant little bastard.
“Not sure if you can do it,” he says. “But good luck.”

Someone made a request about reader being one of the Brellies and thats they're a doctor, knowing all the weak points in the human body because they needed to know them. They get into a fight with the Brellies and after destroying some of them they are all smile and kind.
I don't remember who was the person who made the request because I posted the draft and deleted it so let me know if you read it!
Warnings: explicit violence? I never wrote about fights so it might not be good.
Reader's power is to see the human anatomy through the bodies.
Reader is gender neutral.
Tumblr media
You were a doctor. You left the house kinda early to make your studies. Reginald Hargreeves never cared that much about what you loved and never helped you through your passion so you decided to left the house. You left before Five time traveled so you don't know about his disappearance and you're not surprised to see him at Reginald's funeral. You arrived the last since you were kinda far away from your natal city.
Everyone was gathered outside next to Ben's statue.
«Does anyone wish to say something? Pogo asked.
–So now what? You asked. Dad died, it's a part of the life, it should've happened.
–I don't think you understand, dad has been murdered. Luther answered.
–What about it? He was a monster, he deserved to died. Said Diego while crossing his arms.
–Wait a second where were you all this time (Y/N)? You're a doctor you could've examine his body if you just came sooner. Noticed Five.
–You're the one talking Five, you left for seventeen years to say that the world is ending in eight days. Klaus laughed between his words.
–Wait, what now? What happened when I wasn't here?! You complained, giving a questioning look to Five.
–A lot of things you don't wish to know. He replied. Luther cut you both:
–We're not going to fight now, right? Not at dad's funerals.
–This is stupid, my work is more important than something who should've happened some day or not! You sighed, speaking in a sweet way.»
The funerals ended, everyone wanted to leave. Except learning that the world was going to end, nothing interesting happened. You thought that at least you could have autopsied the body as Five said but the corpse had already passed the cremation stage. You walked around the house, trying to find some new informations or find a clue that dad actually cared about you. The only thing you found was a book that you only forgotten when you left. Diego joined you and spoke, trying to sound soft:
«You still think that dad cared about us?
–He should've at least left us a clue, I said everyone died one day but Five said the world is going to end in eight days, this can't be a coincidence.
–You're overthinking things. Even if he knew something he wouldn't have tell us.
–I always have hope in other's kindness.
–As always.»
You both smiled but your smiles quickly faded when you heard a gunshot and Allison scream that people just entered the house. they really have a good timing. You think to yourself. You rushed with Diego to the center of the house where you heard the gunshot and Allison. The intruders were six, you were seven, with six people having powers. You all ran straight away, Luther told Viktor to stay back while you all were ready to fight. Diego took out his knives and threw them at one of them, the knives touched one of the man. You used your powers to see where they had been embedded. One was stuck in the peritoneum and the other has been thrown in his kidney. It will stop him for some times but he still has his hands and his guns were intacts which worried you. You rushed to the man while he was still screaming in pain, crouching. He raised his pistol in the air and aimed at Diego. You kicked him on the side of his neck which knocked him out completely, you swung his gun with your foot. Diego was shocked for a second but quickly concentrated on someone else, aiming at them. You looked around, Luther certainly didn't need help. You didn't know where Five and Viktor were but your eyes quickly locked on Allison who was fighting with her bare hands. Why didn't she use her power? You didn't want to underestimate her but you had a bad feeling. You picked up the man from before's gun and joined Allison. You shot in the air to have the killer's attention and when he turned around, you punched him in the solar plexus, causing his breath to catch in his throat. Allison took advantage of this and kicked him in the groin. You nodded in approval.
«Good job sis!»
You smiled brightly and searched for Klaus afterwards. Your brother was drunk so you were worried for him, he could do anything dumb. You climbed upstairs and saw Five from the corner of your eye, he was fighting with another man. You assumed he didn't need help when you saw the man's bloody face and Five's confidence. You searched for Klaus again and quickly found him when he screeched loudly. You ran to the room from where you heard him.
«I don't want to hit a woman!»
He cried, something in his voice said that he also said that because he was not in a state to fight. You approached the woman quietly and moved your hands in a way to tell Klaus the woman to turn around, which he didn't need to do because the woman noticed Klaus' eyes looking behind her. She turned around and immediately punched you in the face. Your lips curled up into a gentle smile.
«You know, if you want to damage me you'll have to hit... You raised your feet and gave her an highkick in the temple, causing her to hiss and hold her head with her hand. Here. it's just an advice.»
Klaus looked at you then strangely looked next to him.
«Who are you looking at?
–Ben...»
You chuckled nervously, you didn't want to believe his powers could make him see their dead brother. A voice was heard from behind you:
«So I guess there's one left.»
It was Five. You nodded. You helped Klaus standing up and went down the stairs with your two brothers. You were all gathered here except...
«Where's Viktor?!»
You shouted in cohesion with Allison.
«Shit..Five muttered under his breath and teleported, searching for Viktor.
–We should search for him together, there's only one left so it'll be easy! You said happily.
–And if you misaimed one of them? Asked Diego. How can you even be so chill and smile after making half of them pass out?!
–Chillax Diego, (Y/N)'s a doctor, remember? Klaus reassured. Five came back and panted, seems like his powers were not infinite.
–(Y/N)'s power makes their hit even more precise, trust me, they're all knocked out, I verified while searching for our dear brother.
–Viktor must be with the killer, that's what worries me, we didn't hear a single noise since we beat up all of them. Allison was right. Viktor must be with the killer.»
You looked around and suddenly, your face looked like you just realized something. You didn't even take the time to tell everyone to follow you, you just ran outside. Viktor was defending against a woman with a knife. He was lucky to fall on the only one with a knife because he would've been dead by now. Your brother didn't see you, he was more focused on saving his life. You approached the woman, not caring if you were loud or not this time. The woman turned around to face you and you punched her in the face. She punched you back and thrusted her knife in your shoulder. You screamed but you were chill, you weren't afraid for your life.
«You should really learn where are the most fragile points in a human being, because as a murderer you're useless if you don't know those basics.»
You hissed at her and lifted your foot, kicking her in the knees unsuccessfully. She let go of the knife to avoid your hit. You sigh and walks forward, the woman was stepping backward. She didn't have any weapon and she looked like she didn't know what to do, those people were obviously beginners. Viktor was behind the woman, she didn't pay attention of this. He wrapped his forearm around the woman's neck and squeezed tightly to knock the breath out of her lungs. You smirked softly.
«Take your teammates and get out of here. I don't care if you can't lift them all, get out and don't try to touch my family again.»
The woman nodded, Viktor let go of her, her breath and face were enough to tell you that she gave up. She ran away, your brothers and Allison soon joined you and Viktor. Everyone was looking at you in shock. You could see the woman trying to lift her partners from the outside.
«You're letting her go. You know she will probably take her revenge? Diego scowled you, still shaken by the events.
–She can come, I'm waiting for her. You smiled brightly as you didn't make three men pass out and a woman leave. Luther shrugged. What? Why are you all looking at me like that? Five said as he didn't almost kill someone himself:
–You're so chill about all of this. I'm sure you could've killed them and still look so bright.
–You're the one talking, your opponent was at the verge of death! Nobody deserves to die, we all deserve a chance to enjoy the sun before the world ends.
–They're gonna have sequels, I saw everything before going outside. Viktor said.»
Your face was still soft, you didn't have any worries and that totally shook up your family. You hugged Viktor, then Luther, then Klaus, then Allison, who hugged you back. You hugged Diego, he was still flabbergasted and no words could come out of his mouth. You tried to hug Five but he avoided you by teleporting which left you with a pout. You brushed it off and chuckled.
«I'm so happy we're all reunited! I hope this will last forever!»

If you could form a crew out of any one piece character from any media consisting on ten people, who would you chose and why?
Now that I have more or less calmed down from the boop war, here we go!
You want me to make a One Piece crew out of 10 people from different media, right? I'm gonna give myself the little rule that I'm only allowed to take one character per fandom, otherwise my crew might end up being, like, half LXG or something. Also, another thing I'll be taking into account is how well the characters I'd pick would do in the world of One Piece because some people would just not have a good time there. And we're assuming that everyone gets more or less isekai-ed into the OP world, so they're not taking any technology stuff or fandom-specific powers with them (sadly). SO! Here we go!
Every crew needs...
A captain
A navigator
A doctor
A chef
A carpenter/shipwright
... and would benefit from having...
A swordsman
A gunslinger/sniper
A helmsman
fun people
10 people you say? Alright, here are my picks!
The Captain
You might not know who this is, but I pick Lukas from the Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer series.
Tumblr media
(no gifs, how sad...)
Why? Because a good captain needs to have leadership qualities. People need to trust them and they need to be able to hold the crew together. And Lukas can definitely do that. Also, he can kick ass if he wants to. Generally, I think he'd thrive in the world of One Piece. And he knows a thing or two about fixing steam engine locomotives, so... Submarine pirate ship??? Steampunk-esque? Even if not, I'm convinced he could figure out how to work on a regular pirate ship as well. He's an engineer, he'll figure it out. Also also we need someone to babysit the rest of the crew and he is Dad™
The Navigator
So, this was actually tough, but then it hit me: DATA! MY BELOVED!
Tumblr media
Someone let Data go to the world of One Piece, he would love it! And he would make for an excellent navigator, so his spot here is very deserved. Lukas can teach him about humanity and the beauty of life - they'd be such a perfect duo. Also, can definitely kick ass. And probably fix a ship. Also would hate the World Government despite the fact that he "has no emotions".
The Doctor
Some of you might call me stupid for this, but I picked none other than Doctor Henry Jekyll. His LXG version specifically.
Tumblr media
LXG Henry is actually a medical doctor, as suggested by most scenes he's in, and he's got Hyde for when he needs to kick ass. I feel like he'd do well in the world of One Piece once he gets used to it. And the fact that he's a Victorian era doctor is actually helpful because the One Piece world doesn't have modern-day medical equipment widely available but that won't bother Henry because he never had it to begin with. Also he could probably mix together some substances to give his crew a strength boost once he gets over his guilt and fear of creating another HJ7. Also also I think talking to Lukas and/or Data would fix him.
The Chef
My pick would have to be Louis LeBeau from Hogan's Heroes.
Tumblr media
I was originally considering Julieta Madrigal from Encanto, but LeBeau especially probably knows how to work with limited or sub-par rations and that's very helpful as a pirate. Also, he's small, so there's less space for the anger to go - which is bad news for the World Government, the Marines, and any hostile pirate crews.
The Carpenter/Shipwright
Okay, hear me out: Justus Jonas.
Tumblr media
I think he could do it. My man knows how to tinker, he can probably work out how to fix a ship and have fun with it. It would be a challenge for his mind to learn it, which he would appreciate, and just generally the social climate of this little pirate crew I'm building would be good for him. Multiple parental figures, fellow autistic people... Fantastic! He'd get along with Data, right? Right??? Probably. And I'm convinced he could kick ass if he wanted to.
The Swordsman
At first I was a bit stuck with who to put here. I considered my beloved Diego Hargreeves (for the "get loved on, idiot" of it all) but then it hit me. We need the swordsman of all time... We need Link!
Tumblr media
If Link is mute, that's not even a problem. Data will teach him sign language in no time. Easy! Just... don't let him into the kitchen.
The Gunslinger / Sniper
Okay, hear me out on this... My pick is the one and only Templeton "Faceman" Peck. Could technically be either the 80s or 2010 version since both have the potential to be silly, but the 80s version just fits in better here.
Tumblr media
I mean, look at him! Tell me he wouldn't get along with the likes of Sanji. Also, he needs to see Momoiro Island, for reasons. I feel like a lot of people don't know that Face is the main sniper of the A-Team but he is! And his con-man abilities are a HUGE added bonus.
The Helmsman
This position was the first I filled and it has to go to the one and only Gordon Malloy.
Tumblr media
Gordon can fly anything, so I'm convinced he could 100% learn how to steer a ship too. After all, we're in the world of One Piece. Not all ships are steered with steering wheels. And especially if it's actually a submarine this crew is on, it might have controls more similar to ones he's familiar with. Fighting-wise, I actually don't know if he'd be any good. He's a wild card. But I am convinced that he'd have a devil fruit, because my man has a history of eating things he's not supposed to because they look fun/tasty. He probably would kick ass with that devil fruit since he has the imagination needed to make it work.
Now, since I still have two spots left on my crew, time for...
Fun people!
Fun person #1 has to be George Luz.

He's here for the chaos, and I'm here for that. Him in combination with any of the people on this list is what I want to see. Silliest of all silly geese.
And for te tenth person... I honestly don't know! You know, just for the hell of it, get one of the Hargreeves siblings in here. Actually, this spot belongs to Diego, simply because he got beaten out of the swordsman spot by Link.

There we go! That's it! This was really fun :)

A/N: If you've noticed that I'm writing more fics like this, it's because my mutual poked me into watching Call the Midwife and it reignited my special interest surrounding childbirth and pregnancy, so I am combining it with my current fandom obsession. I hope that you guys can enjoy some of these, because there's going to be quite a few of them as time goes on. Thanks for reading! Stay sissy and bitchy everyone <3
After making sure that all four of his already found siblings were listening to him, Five began to explain the situation that they were in. “I dumped you here without permission and we got the attention of the Commission, unfortunately. The Handler has been trying to do something nefarious with it since I joined and she’s using the fact that you’re all here as a way to continue doing that. I went back to the Commission and agreed to stop messing with time and keep certain things a secret as long as they helped me keep all of you safe. They’ve agreed to let us use one of their old safehouses. It’s one of the ones that The Handler isn’t aware of, so I’m sending you all there so that you can be safe.”
He had tried to make it so that his statement left no room for arguments. He didn’t want to spend an unknown amount of time poking, prodding, and reassuring them that it was okay and the right thing for them to do. He just wanted to make sure that the five remaining siblings he had were safe and tucked away until he could return them back to the world that they deserved.
Luther, however, seemed to have not gotten the message. Five should have suspected that he would be the biggest problem out of all of his siblings since their father had reassured him over and over again that he was the leader. “You’re going to go after that entire organization by yourself? Don’t you need the rest of us to help you?”
The oldest-youngest brother shook his head. “I don’t. I’m only going after The Handler and I’ve been given permission to use some of the other agents if I need any help. The thing that is going to help me most is having you all out of the way so that I don’t have to worry about you fucking up the timeline more. The Commission wants you out of the way as well. Two of you have tried to mess with the Kennedy assassination and the other two have made huge ripples in the culture of Dallas and the world as a whole.”
Diego pursed his lips and then folded his arms moodily over his chest as he sank down in his chair. Luther looked a little bit guilty and began to fidget impatiently. Allison let out a huffy noise and rolled her eyes, obviously not having any remorse for the ripples that she had sent through the timeline. Klaus just laughed as he lounged back on the couch that he was already sitting on.
“Do you understand?” Five asked as he looked out over all of his siblings. “If you all continue with what you’ve been doing until I got here then there’s the chance that the Commission will decide that you need to die anyway. You all have to go to the safehouse and stay there until I come to get you.”
Allison spoke up before the rest of them had the chance to, “Are we allowed to go back and say goodbye to any of the people that we loved?”
“No,” Five shook his head. “Not right now. Maybe if you’re all good and you’ve done what I’ve asked I can accompany you back so that you can say goodbye before we got back to where we’re supposed to be.”
She didn’t seem content with that answer, but she also didn’t pitch a big fuss. Five walked his siblings down the stairs so that they were near the car that Eliot had before he had been killed by the Swedes under The Handler’s instruction. “I want you to all go to this address and find Viktor. He’s going by his old name and working as a nanny for the family that lives at this address,” he didn’t bother to explain how he knew that as he wrote the information down and then handed the slip of paper over to Diego.
The aforementioned brother’s face was overcome with a kind of emotion that none of them had ever seen from him before. His brows were furrowed together and his mouth was in a pinched line. He walked to the other side of the car and then got in the front behind the wheel while waiting for the rest of his siblings to follow suit.
As soon as the present Hargreeves, with the exception of Five, had sat down in the car, he started it up. A flash of blue told him that Five had gone off to wherever he was finishing his business, so he pulled out of the driveway to go to the address they had been given.
Klaus struck up a conversation about halfway out of the city and towards the farm where their last brother was living. It was easy to fall into the pattern that they had grown up in, listening to him say something and then groaning or pointing out the inaccuracies in it. This time, even Luther joined in. Diego felt himself relaxing as he thought back to some of the more comforting memories that he had of when they were younger.
The tension and stress that he had felt before were back as soon as they pulled down the dirt driveway of the farm where Viktor was living. There were tire tracks down the path, but no car in front of the barn or beside the house which meant that someone had probably gone out.
Diego hung back in the car while the rest of the siblings piled out. He had a lot of emotions that he had to sort through concerning the brother that they had come to pick up, the least of which being the guilt that was boiling in his stomach at not coming to rescue Viktor from what might have been a very bad situation.
He stepped out after a moment, knowing that he couldn’t run away from it. He turned and then felt like his breath was stolen from his lungs in the best way possible.
His relationship with Viktor had been complicated from the very beginning of their lives, there was no alternative with the way that they had been raised. As they got older and began to come into themselves more as people, it had gotten even more twisted and confusing. He had always thought that the violinist was beautiful, but something had changed since they had last seen each other and the radiance of the other man had seemingly increased tenfold.
Viktor was standing next to a laundry line where he was picking up garments from a basket and then pinning them down so that they flapped dry in the breeze. He was wearing a long blue summer dress that brushed across his ankles and tightened up at the waist. The sleeves were simple and stopped at his mid-forearm with a looseness that allowed for work to be done easily. His hair was cut short again, like it had been right after they left the Academy and formed their short-lived band.
Something about the way that he was standing in the hot Dallas sun, the spring breeze wrapped around him, made him look more beautiful and ethereal that Diego had ever seen him look before. He could only see the side of Viktor’s face and yet the healthy glow that he had acquired since arriving in the past was evident. He was beautiful in the same way that he always had been, handsome yet soft, but at the same time different. It might have had something to do with the fact that he was off of the medication that he had been on his entire life and was finally able to feel his own feelings, but as soon as Viktor turned Diego knew that it wasn’t just that.
“Viktor?” Allison called, quickly getting the attention of their brother.
He turned around and his beautiful brown eyes welled up with tears. They didn’t even hang on his lashes as they often had when they were all children, back when his emotions were being suffocated by the medication that Reginald had kept him on since they were four. “Allison?” he asked.
The siblings had all been getting ready to approach their brother so that they could have a conversation without shouting, but as soon as he turned around they all stopped. He had one hand extended out over the top of a basket that was overflowing with wet laundry and clothespins, but the other one was what they were paying attention to. Even if it hadn’t been placed where it was, the object of their fascination would have been very obvious.
Viktor’s stomach was rounded out from underneath his chest all the way down to between his hips. It looked firm and not at all proportionate to what it would have been had the small man just gained some weight. The hand placed on the very bottom of his stomach made it even more obvious because it cut the dress so that the fabric was tightly formed around him. It was very blatant that he was pregnant.
Diego felt like he was frozen in place as soon as that finally clicked in his brain. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do when he saw the man that he had so much history with before that had been thrown into the equation, but now any ideas that he had were completely thrown out the window.
The rest of the siblings seemed to be similarly astounded that the bringer of the apocalypse, their timid little brother, was harboring a life inside of him. They were just as frozen as Diego and so Viktor had to be the one to make the first move. He dropped the basket of laundry so that they tumbled down onto the packed dirt and grass. He didn’t care as he hurried, as quickly as he could with the heavy weight on his abdomen, towards the siblings he was worried he would never see again.
He paused when he was finally in front of Allison, a mere foot away. “You’re okay?” he asked, his hand twitching at his side as he thought about whether or not it would be okay for him to reach out and touch her.
“Yeah, I’m okay, I’m okay,” Allison immediately nodded. She lurched forward so that she was hugging her brother, saving him from having to make the decision. Viktor had been crying the entire time that he had been getting closer to her, but as soon as her arms were around him he began to sob loudly.
“I’m so sorry that all happened and then I wasn’t even there to make sure that you were okay. I tried to get back to you but then my powers they- they just took over so I couldn’t think anymore and then I woke up in Dallas and I didn’t even know if any of you were out here,” Viktor gasped around sobs.
“Shh, shh,” Allison immediately soothed. She brushed her hand over the back of his head in the same way that Grace had often done when they were younger. She placed a kiss on his forehead and Diego felt a spike of jealousy flare up inside of him as he wanted to be doing that, though he quickly stamped it down as he remembered all of the feelings he had nine months ago when they were in their own timeline.
Allison pulled back then, brushed her fingers over her own eyes to rid them of the tears. “You shouldn’t be all worked up when you’re in this condition,” she sniffled.
Viktor laughed as the hand that wasn’t on Allison’s shoulder, reassuring him that his sister was really there and really okay, moved to his stomach. He rubbed a circle and then settled it back where it had been while he was working with the clothesline.
One of the other siblings slipped out of their surprise then as Klaus walked over to the smallest of the brothers. He wrapped one of his long arms around the violinist’s waist and brought him in to a half hug, “I never thought that we’d see you in a dress again, mein bruder.”
The aforementioned brother let out a half laugh, sounded absolutely exasperated despite how little Klaus had said so far. “How about you try being nine months pregnant in the beginning of Dallas summer and then tell me if you want to be wearing jeans?”
Klaus laughed, tossing his head back so that the black hat that was perched on the edge of his head tumbled back into the grass along with the laundry. “At least you don’t have much longer to go. When is baby supposed to come?” Klaus asked.
His hand moved over to Viktor’s stomach but Allison quickly hit it off. “Klaus! Never touch a pregnant person’s stomach without permission. Just because they’re carrying a baby doesn’t mean that they don’t get to have autonomy and consent anymore.”
The violinist quickly soothed the argument before it could really get started. “Allison, Klaus never asks when he touches someone so it isn’t like this is a pregnancy specific thing.” He then turned towards his brother with a small smile, “I am getting very close to my due date. We’re not sure when exactly because it took a while for me to remember again and then I couldn’t quite figure out conception dates because of how the time travel worked.”
“Remember?” Luther asked. He walked out from where he was standing next to the car so that he was closer to the rest of his siblings. Viktor tensed up a little bit and the wind picked up, but then he took a deep breath and everything settled again.
“I was dumped into a back alleyway when I got here. I was really disoriented because of the kinds of things that my powers had done to my head. I stumbled out into the road and someone hit me with their car,” he explained. “I actually work for her family, she’s been kind enough to let me stay here even with the baby on the way.”
“You were hit with a car?” Allison gasped.
“Yes, but don’t worry! She stopped as soon as she could so it basically just threw me down to the ground. I didn’t break any bones and the baby wasn’t hurt at all. I had a concussion for a little while and some scrapes but we’re both fine,” Viktor immediately soothed. He then flushed a little, no doubt ashamed that he had assumed they were worried about his and his baby’s health because of how he had been treated when they were younger.
Diego felt like he was suffocating, like the air around him was slowly seeping out. It reminded him of some of the training that he had done when he was younger, back when Reginald was trying to figure out if his breath-holding applied to anything other than world. His chest was beating up in his ears so that it made it hard to hear what his siblings were saying, but he was also hanging off of every word. His thoughts were rolling over and over in his head as he tried to figure out conception dates on his own.
“We should get going. Five said that we had to go straight to the safehouse after we picked him up,” Luther said as he glanced back towards Diego, who was still hanging back at the car.
The look got Viktor’s attention back in that direction as well. His eyes widened when he noticed that the brother he had been closest to as teenagers was there as well. He ducked his head down, though without the curtain of hair that he had all the way up until their sixteenth birthday, it was hard for him to hide the way that he was feeling. His eyes were wide and the tips of his cheeks were colored red with a nervous flush. Diego had seen that look a lot back when they were trying to, futilely, get their band off of the ground.
“Safehouse?” Viktor asked.
Klaus let out a sigh as he got ready to explain, “Our dear Fivey has been very busy since he dumped us here. He only got into Dallas about three days ago and he’s been working rather tirelessly to find us all. We were all dumped in different times because of how messy his powers are. Apparently we caught some nasty attention and so now he’s having to squirrel us away while he gets it all cleaned up and we get to go back home.”
“I can’t leave just yet. I told Sissy that I would get some chores done around the house and she might worry if she comes back and I’m just gone,” Viktor shook his head. He detached himself from Klaus and Allison as he slowly made his way back over to where the laundry basket was. Diego noticed, with affection swelling his heart, that Viktor had a little bit of a waddle now because of the size of the baby.
“Here, let me get that,” Allison quickly said as she moved past him and gathered the laundry up from the ground. She winced when she saw that one of the shirts had spilled out into a patch of mud and was now soaked. She placed that over one arm while she put the rest of the laundry back where it went and then handed it to Viktor.
“Thank you, I can’t reach stuff that falls as much as I used to. I refuse to be one of those people that just doesn’t pick things like that up because it’s harder, but it’s nice not having to do it every time,” he laughed as he took the basket. He turned back to his siblings. “Can you let me finish up the chores I need to do around the house and pack up some things?”
He was taking everything in better stride than they thought that he would given what their last interactions had been like. It was kind of hard to believe that the brother that they had seen up on that stage, bathed in white energy while trying his very best to kill everyone coming too close to him, was the same that was standing here. The Viktor that they had seen the last time they were all together was all blue-hued and cold while this one was full of rosy golden warmth.
Diego spoke up before anyone else had the chance to. His words had been stuck in his throat, much like his body had been stuck in place. “We have time, you can pack.”
From a few feet away from the car, between the vehicle and their pregnant brother, Luther whirled around with wide eyes. Despite his reluctance to help Five in the saving of the world earlier that day, he seemed to have jumped on it now. The idea of letting someone have more time than the rest of them also seemed to tick off Allison, but she didn’t say anything about it.
Viktor turned to face Diego for a moment, his eyes full of nearly-unreadable emotion. When they had been working together on starting their band, before Diego had flunked the police academy and blown away in the wind like bad dandelion seeds, the marksman had gotten very good at reading those emotions. He had to be since Viktor was shy and quiet and rarely ever spoke what he was thinking. “Thank you,” he whispered. He turned back around to his work so that he could finish hanging up the wet laundry on the line.
The lone girl of the family sent a half-pissed look at her brother, which just confirmed that the pregnancy was the only reason she wasn’t fighting against his decision the way that Luther was. She walked over to their brother and took the basket from him so that she could help him. Viktor was pulling garments out and then pinning them to the line while she trailed slowly after him while keeping the basket steady.
“What the Hell, Diego?” Luther demanded as he stormed back over towards his brother.
“You didn’t even want to save the world the last time that Five came to ask you for help,” Diego snarled.
“Why does he get more time than the rest of us to wrap up his shit? Five said that we had to get to the safehouse as quickly as possible because of the danger that the Commission is posing to us right now. If we stick around for too long they might figure out where we are,” Luther argued.
Diego felt a flare of anger burning up inside of him. He thought that he had left those kinds of feelings behind when he had dropped into this world. Despite the barbaric treatments of people in 1960s mental institutions, some of the things that he had talked about while in therapy had helped him with some of his issues. He had a couple of sessions of therapy under his belt before he even got there, so he just built their basic suggestions on the more modern ones he already knew. He had worked very hard to try and get over the issues that he had with his brother, to ration that it was their father that had turned them against each other like that.
He had forgiven Luther around the fourth month of being in the institution. The more that the other man was pushing this specific issue, the less he wanted to keep on that streak. “Because he’s fucking pregnant, Luther! You weren’t around him enough to see how much being forced to pretend that he was a girl messed him up. Pregnancy in the 1960s isn’t going to be fucking nice to him so we have to be gentle for two different reasons. I don’t think you want anything bad happening to him or the baby, do you, Luther?” he snapped.
“Something bad is going to happen to him, Diego!” Luther shouted. “There are dangerous people out there with guns that are going to hurt him, the baby, and the rest of us if they catch us!”
“They’re going to have to fucking wait until Viktor feels safe enough to go anywhere! I’m not going to push our pregnant brother into doing something he isn’t comfortable with,” he was basically seething at that point. They were going to be going back and forth like that for a while longer before one of them got bored and stopped fighting. It was something that they had done often when they were younger and were pushed against each other by their father. It was something that he often goaded them into and they fell into very easily. Diego also needed to burn off some of his anxiety and the other feelings that were swirling in his gut.
Meanwhile, Klaus had wandered off to talk with Viktor and Allison. “So what have you been doing since your little ending-the-world rendezvous?” he asked as he snagged one of the clothespins to play with.
The pregnant man pursed his lips and shrank down into himself. Allison opened her mouth to object over their brother bringing up that topic, but she was shut down before she really got to, “I’ve just been living here. Like I said earlier, Sissy hit me with her car and then brought me to the hospital. I had a pretty bad concussion and had no idea who I was so they brought me back with them to take care of me since I didn’t match up with any missing person’s reports. My memory slowly came back and we tried to reach out to you guys but I was too pregnant to get a job so that I could get an apartment. I work as a nanny here so that Sissy can focus on the farm.”
“They’re not working you too hard, are they?” Allison asked, her eyes drifting down specifically to Viktor’s domed stomach.
He chuckled and placed a hand on his swollen bump. “No, they’re not. I mainly do household chores and watch after Harlan. My midwife said that getting the exercise that I do is actually good for me and the baby. Makes it so they can grow up to be healthy and strong. Also means that I’m not liable to go into labor sooner than I’m supposed to,” he grabbed the last garment from the bag and then took the basket from Allison.
Viktor turned back towards the car, trying to catch some kind of a glance at Diego, when he saw the two brothers fighting. “Allison, why don’t you go see if you can talk Luther down and then send Diego into the house with me? We need to talk.”
He didn’t give them any room to argue as he drifted back into the house to finish up the remainder of his chores before he had to leave. Klaus and Allison glanced at each other knowingly before doing as they had been asked.
The back door that Viktor had just come through slowly opened and then closed as Diego walked through it into the kitchen. Viktor was placing the shirt that had gotten dirty when the basket fell back into the washing machine so that it could be washed with the next load. He set the basket down on the ground next to it and then slowly pushed himself up into a standing positon, one hand going to his back for extra support.
“Allison said that you had something you wanted to talk to me about,” Diego said softly as he walked over to one of the counters in the kitchen.
“Yeah, I do,” Viktor nodded. He turned around to that they could have their conversation face-to-face but then paused as he felt the burning, searing pain beginning to grow in his back. He placed his hand on the wall to support himself as he took in a deep breath through his nose. The muscles along his spine tightened painfully and then wrapped around his gravid belly for a solid thirty seconds before they all released. The pain fled and he was flushed with endorphins before he remembered everything that was happening. “Um, would you mind making another tally under the four on that paper for me since it’s behind you?”
Diego had been staring at him the entire time that he had been standing there, he was able to feel the other man’s eyes boring into his very being. It was only after he said something that the spell or captivation that had been placed on him was finally broken. He turned around to grab the paper and pencil that had been requested of him before he paused. “Viktor, what is this?” he asked.
“It’s just something that my midwife asked me to keep. A log book of all my false labor contractions to make sure that nothing is wrong with baby,” he replied. “Which is kind of what I need to talk to you about.”
“False labor?” Diego asked, trying to play stupid to give himself more time to process the information on the paper. It was broken up into seven sections, each with several numbers spread evenly throughout. Underneath each number was a certain amount of tallies, with some being more frequent and most of them being devoid of the marks altogether. The one at the bottom that was marked with their current date was what had caught his attention, however. The tallies increased as the day got later, to the point where there were already five in the column underneath the four.
“No, the baby,” Viktor shook his head. He snagged the paper and then set a tally mark down where it needed to be. “I know that you and I haven’t always had the… most stable relationship,” he winced.
Diego snorted, “You could say that.”
“Do you remember right when we found out that Dad died? You got distracted when you were doing your whole Batman-thing and came to me to get patched up, like you always did. And we…” his ears were burning red as he fully trailed off.
The memories of that night came flooding back to them both. It was like whenever they were seated that close together, on the poorly tiled floor of Viktor’s tiny bathroom, something drew them even closer. They had become intertwined as they had many times before, but they had become so giddy with the news of their father’s death that they had forgotten to be as careful as they usually were. It had resulted in them having to shower to get all of the blood from Diego’s cut off of them and Viktor complaining under his breath about having to pick up a Plan B on his way to work the next morning.
“I never did it. I was late going to orchestra and then the funeral happened and now…” he placed his hand on his swollen stomach.
“Are you saying…?” Diego felt his eyes widen as the words got stuck in his throat. That had happened so often when they were younger and Viktor had always been the most patient about it, struggling with his own words more often than not. The thought had flit across his mind as soon as he had seen the state that his adoptive brother was in, but he pushed it away quickly after reminding himself that nothing good ever happened to him.
Viktor nodded, tears welling in his dark brown eyes. “I think so. I- there’s a chance that it could be Harold’s because we weren’t… there was a time, right after my powers went haywire when Allison triggered me with her rumor that he… and I didn’t really have the brain space to be able to tell him that I didn’t want to or that he had to use a condom,” he gave a shudder.
Immediately upon hearing that, the amazement and wonder was replaced with burning rage. He had already felt a huge surge of protectiveness over his pseudo-lover when they found the body of the poor woman who had first chair violin in Viktor’s orchestra, but knowing that the murder had taken advantage of Viktor during a vulnerable time in his life made his blood boil. Diego had often initiated forceful sex and kissed without asking first, but he had always immediately backed off without any attempt at coercion when he had been told no.
He was brought out of some of the darker thoughts when he watched Viktor wiping at his face with both of his calloused hands. “Sorry. I haven’t been able to think about it much during the pregnancy, I’ve kind of decided that they’re yours already because I can’t bare the idea that he could have gotten me pregnant on top of everything else.”
Diego’s hand twitched at his side and he slowly brought it up to Viktor’s stomach, giving the other man ample opportunity to say that he didn’t want it. Instead, Viktor reached up and took his wrist so that he could lay Diego’s palm flat against his stomach, right above his belly button. “I had sex with you first and we know for a fact that you were ovulating then and we didn’t use protection. The chances are pretty damn high that this baby is mine,” he whispered.
Normally he wouldn’t have been able to say something like that because it all would have felt too overwhelming. While he always wanted to be a father, a child was a big responsibility and having a baby suddenly dumped on his lap when he didn’t have any time to think and panic about it made him want to throw himself into a lake and live there eternally. The impulse didn’t plague him now, though, because he knew that Viktor needed that reassurance. The baby would be born soon, especially if Viktor’s midwife was right about due dates, and he needed to be strong for the blossoming family and the man that he loved.
Diego took a deep breath as he leaned forward and pressed their foreheads together. It was an intimate gesture that used to be very common for them, back when they were playing small gigs in the back of pizza parlors and abandoned garages. Viktor had always been nervous, even when he was back on the medication that their father had given him, and that was one of the only ways that would properly soothe his nerves. “It’s a lot to take in, huh?” Diego asked.
He felt like he was going to shake apart at the seams as his brain really began to process everything that had happened. One day it felt like he was going about his normal life, working as a janitor in a gym by day and being a vigilante at night. The next his father was dead, he had some of the best sex of his life, and then he was at his father’s wake. Everything after that, finding out that Viktor had powers, that his sort-of lover was dating someone new, that someone turning out to be an obsessive murderer, watching his mother die twice, watching his childhood home crumble, being forced to sit silently as Viktor begged him to let him out of the cage they had locked him in, and then watching powers none of them understood taking over their brother. That had all been before the time travel, the asylum, the second end of the world, and everything that had happened with Lila.
Now he was standing in a stranger’s kitchen, trying to work through all of those events while also processing that it was very likely he would be a father before the week ended.
“I don’t think I’ve had the chance to process it all since it began. I was back here and then I was pregnant and I had that to worry about. Still do, and then I’ll have the baby. But there’s always time for a panic attack later, right?” he chuckled.
Diego cracked a smile at that. Despite the nervous energy that was thrumming through his body because of everything happening around him, that nod back to their band days helped him feel immensely better. It wasn’t something that they had enjoyed at the time and it had worried him then, but now it made him feel warm. It reminded him of back when they thought that they had a chance for the future, that they would never hurt each other because they understood the other too well. That hadn’t lasted long because Diego was shit at managing his life and had a mean mouth to boot, but he had changed a lot since then.
“Yeah, there will be time for panic attacks later,” he murmured as he rubbed his hand over the swollen bump on his brother’s abdomen. The idea that their child was inside of the smaller man, nestled away from the world and safely growing until they could make their debut was the most exciting and terrifying thing that Diego had ever thought about.
He felt a small kick to his hand just as Viktor’s face fell from the delicate smile he had been wearing. He let out a small hum in the back of his throat as his spare hand moved away from Diego's shoulder and to his back, supporting him through another one of the pains.
Diego kept one hand on Viktor’s bump while the other moved to support his brother. They slowly walked over to the dining room table a few feet away from the kitchen. He helped Viktor lower himself down until he was leaning back in the chair, finally sitting down and off his feet. “So I’m not exactly an expert on this, but I don’t think that false labor contractions happen this often,” he gestured with his head over to the note that he had snagged on their way to the chair.
“I’m not in labor,” Viktor shook his head. “When my midwife came to the house yesterday she said that I still had a couple of days. Nothing is on the move yet, so we should have plenty of time for Five to finish doing whatever it is that he needs to get done.”
There was no argument in his voice and Diego was too worn out from having all of the information dumped on him to try and find the words. He merely added another tally underneath the hour and sat with Viktor until the other man felt steady enough to get back up. “Do you think that you could help me with some of the packing? I’ve already done most of the chores that Sissy asked me to do while she was away.”
“Of course,” Diego replied. He was standing and helping Viktor to his feet in an instant. Knowing that the other man still loved him, at least in some way even if it wasn’t the more direct way that he had been hoping for, had directed some of his attention away from all of his other thoughts. He had been of the opinion that the fathers-to-be that were obsessed with their spouses when they were expecting had been cheesy and unrealistic. He had never been around someone that was pregnant all the way from the beginning to the end when he was that young, but his opinion had stayed the same as he got older. He had figured that nothing much could change in the way that someone loved just because their partner was pregnant. He now knew better than that, because he felt completely enamored with Viktor now that he knew the other man was responsible for making him a father.
“Just through here,” Viktor explained as he waddled towards the living room. The couch had a stack of blankets and pillows carefully made up on one side and there was a suitcase full of clothes next to the chair.
Diego felt his mouth flicker down into a frown. He was grateful that this family had taken in Viktor when he needed them but he wished that it had been a slightly better situation. If the apocalypse hadn’t happened Diego might not have been able to offer Viktor a better place to stay himself, but at least in their own time the pregnant man had his own apartment and an actual bed to sleep on.
“Where’s the baby stuff?” Diego asked as he searched for it.
“Under the couch. It’s bigger than you think,” Viktor chuckled. He walked over and hefted the suitcase up onto the chair so that he could flick it open and look through it. It was full of clothes from throughout his pregnancy, though there weren’t a lot of garments in there. It was about half full with a half dozen pairs of pants, three button ups and a pair of overalls. There was plenty of room for him to move the baby clothes that he hadn’t prepared yet into it.
Diego slid everything that had been nestled underneath the couch out and then began to help Viktor fold them and get them packed away. The smaller man had another two contractions while they were working but waved away Diego’s little concerned noises every time.
Eventually, the domesticity of the situation was interrupted by another one of their siblings. They had been in the house for longer than they thought and the others were beginning to get worried that they were hanging around for too long. “How’s it going in here?” Allison asked as she looked over the baby clothes that they were sorting through. It was two full boxes worth of clothing items, everything that Sissy had saved from when Harlan was born and a few that they had gotten just in case the baby was a girl.
“Good,” Viktor smiled. He turned towards her to give her more details but then stopped as he felt another one of the building pains. Diego was on his feet in an instant, allowing Viktor to use the other man’s hands so that he could stay upright and steady.
Their sister turned towards Diego and their eyes met. A whole conversation exchanged between them in the silence of Viktor’s contraction. “Are you in labor?” she asked, keeping her voice low and compassionate as she walked over to help keep him steady.
“No,” the smaller man objected. He stood up straight with a little grunt in the back of his throat and then a splattering noise sounded through the room.
Allison let out a little giggle as she said, “I think that baby is determined to prove you wrong. Unless you just peed yourself, I think that was your water breaking.”
He slowly tilted his head down so that he could see the growing puddle of water in the middle of the living room. Despite being nine months pregnant, he had never had an issue with his bladder other than feeling like had to pee more often. He was also aware enough of his own body to know that the clear fluid leaking out of him certainly wasn’t urine. “I thought that I was going to have more time…”
Another silent conversation passed between the other siblings. Diego grasped Viktor’s elbow with one hand and placed a hand on his back with the other. “Come on, we can go out to the car and wait there while people finish up here,” he said softly.
“Wouldn’t it be a better idea for me to go out to the car with him? I’ve had a baby before,” Allison argued.
“That’s why I need you in here,” Viktor replied as he nodded towards his suitcase. “You know more about baby clothes than Diego does. He can sit with me in the car and hold my hand or whatever people are supposed to do when they’re around other people in labor.”
She looked like she wanted to protest, but he had made a good point. Instead of wasting what little time that they had before the baby got there and it was a lot harder to get to the safehouse, she gathered up the items from the couch and basically forced them into Diego’s arms. The duo were then shepherded out of the backdoor and towards the car so that Viktor would have a semi-stationary place to labor.
Klaus and Luther were talking about something amongst the white sheets that were now billowing in the hot desert wind, but Viktor didn’t really pay much attention to either of them. He had been so wrapped up in his feelings and everything that was happening before his water broke that he barely noticed when the contractions came and went. Now that the protective bubble of the amniotic fluid had left and he was focusing on how soon he was going to meet his baby, everything felt a lot more present. He had to pause every time that he got one of the pains, which was thankfully only once as they made their way out of the house and to the car.
They paused in their conversation to watch the slow way that Viktor was walking while almost clutching at his stomach. He was sure that the lower half of his sun dress was almost soaked with the fluid that was still trickling down his leg when he moved the wrong way. He tried not to think about it too much because the idea that he was going to give birth soon was almost too much for him to handle.
Diego opened up the back of the car and then carefully helped Viktor into it. The only section of the vehicle that Luther fit in, they found out, was the trunk, so even though Viktor would have more maneuverability back there, it was off limits so that they could get the entire family to the safehouse.
The marksman laid down one the blankets on the backseat and then another in the footwell so that there was some cushion no matter how he decided he needed to be. “Can you run back into the house and get some more towels? I have a baby blanket but that’s not going to be of any use to us until baby is at least a little bit clean. Especially since we have no idea what this house Five is stashing us at is like,” he explained.
Diego looked a little anxious at the idea of having to leave his heavily pregnant and laboring partner, but he also knew better than to argue. He slipped out of the backseat, but thankfully he didn’t have to go far. The other two had been watching the interaction that they were having and slowly drifting over. Diego explained about the contractions and how Viktor’s water had broken when they were in the house, which only served to make Luther look a little pale and clammy. “Can one of you go get some towels? It sucks that we have to steal from this family but it’s not like we want this baby to be born with nothing if this house Five is sending us to ends up being empty.”
Klaus immediately agreed, turning and rushing off to do as he had been asked. Luther slowly trailed after Diego as the marksman returned to his lover. He paused when he got about a yard away from the car, turning to look around like attackers could be coming from anywhere. It was a little silly since Five had guaranteed that they’d be safe for a few hours while they drove to the house, but anything that made him feel better was getting a pass in Diego’s book.
It took about ten minutes for them to all be ready to go. Viktor was in the backseat with his forearms pressed together on the backseat of the car, kneeling down in the footwell behind the front. Diego was right beside him with a bowl of water snuggled up to the door and the crease in the seat so it didn’t spill. He would douse a cloth in it and then either use it to wet Viktor’s lips or run it over the back of his neck to keep him cool. It was kind of beautiful and terrifying to see what his lover was going through to bring their baby into the world.
Eventually Allison and Klaus both came out of the house. The suitcase full of things that Viktor would need for the newborn was placed into the trunk alongside the towels and the kit that the midwife had dropped off for his delivery. Klaus was driving and Allison was sitting in the passgender’s seat, though there had been a brief argument about who should be the one sitting beside Viktor.
None of their siblings knew about their band or what their relationship had been like after Five left and Ben died, when they could only find solace and companionship between the two of them. Allison’s argument for her being back with him was that she had been in labor and delivered before, but Klaus was quick to chime in and tell her that she had a c-section so she wasn’t really going to be a huge help during the delivery part.
Viktor barely even noticed anything had changed when the car started moving. Despite not having done it for most of his life, Klaus was fairly good at driving so even the transition down the long dirt driveway away from the farm was fairly smooth. They drove through the endless streets as they tried to get to the safehouse that Five had set up for them. Allison sat so that her back was pressed to the door and she could see both out of the windshield and her laboring brother, which was the only way that she allowed Diego to stay in the back with him.
“He’s so quiet,” she whispered after almost half an hour of driving. Viktor had been swaying back and forth and breathing rhythmically the entire time, which made it very hard for her to time how close his contractions were.
“I thought that the screaming and shouting and throwing things during labor was a stupid movie trope,” Luther piped up from the back. He was nervously worrying a blanket in between his fingers to try and settle down. He kept checking behind them like he was suddenly going to see the FBI and Commission coming to chase them down, as though they didn’t look like any other family trying to get where they needed to go before a baby came into the world.
Allison moved her hand back and forth. “Yes and no. I didn’t tell Patrick that I hated him or I never wanted to have sex with him again when I had Claire but I still made noise. Contractions are probably the most painful thing that I’ve ever been through,” she explained.
Viktor was lulled by the sounds of his families’ voices all around him. He had always wanted to be surrounded by their love and warmth and he had been denied that for so long when he was younger. It was nice to be around them when he already felt so zeroed in and focused on what was happening. His brain was fuzzy and distant like it had been when his powers took over his body, but in a much different was. The only thing that he could focus on was the steadily raising tide of pain and pressure. Each wave would overcome him for about thirty seconds and then recede before the next one came in. He could feel every distinctive thing happening in his body as his baby stilled and made their descent into the birth canal.
His body had basically taken over the entire situation. He didn’t feel like he had to worry because Diego was a steady, constant presence beside him and his other siblings were all within grabbing reach. He could just focus on the pressure low in his pelvis and the steady descent of his baby.
He leaned forward and shifted so that he was up on his feet instead of his knees. It spread his pelvis at least a little bit wider, which was much more comfortable now that he was at this point in his labor. Viktor grasped the blanket that Diego had spread out over the seat of the car so that his knuckles had turned almost white as he felt the overwhelming urge to bear down. He wasn’t going to deny his body what it wanted after years of his life being consumed by only that alone. He also wasn’t sure that he was physically capable of resisting the urge.
Almost as soon as he had made the choice to start pushing, the pressure was alleviated off of him entirely. It was enough of a relief that he let out a small whimper when he breathed out after the contraction passed.
“You doing okay, V?” Diego asked as he brought the cloth over. He had wrung it out so that he could place the entire thing over Viktor’s head and cool him down. It did the trick as the water weighted down his feathery brown locks just enough that his scalp was bathed with cool.
Viktor turned his head to the side so that he could meet his lover’s eyes. He gave him a tired smile and said, “Yeah, s’just a lot.”
“You know that you can cry out, right?” Allison asked, reaching over so that she could rub his back with one hand. “We know that it hurts. No one is going to get mad at you for making noise while your body literally prepares to birth a child.”
He gave a small nod as he returned back to what he had been doing before. He wasn’t making noise not because he was scared to, but because the pain didn’t seem all that terrible to him when his mind was as fuzzy as his was. The pressure was what was wearing him out since he dealt with low level pain almost every single day. The steady movement on his back was just the right amount of stimulation that he needed to keep his body from freaking out. It was something to focus on other than the baby’s head slowly descending down his birth canal.
The tension in the car was so thick that it could have been cut with a knife. They were all worried about being able to make it to the safe house that Five had set up for them in the time that he had given them to show up. Luther was basically staring out of the back window like he was going to be able to summon a monster for him to fight just to get his nerves to settle down. Klaus was focusing on driving, though he kept muttering to someone that none of the rest of them could see. Diego was focused mainly on Viktor, but images of having to fight while his boyfriend was giving birth to their child alone kept flashing through his mind and it was making him feel restless. Allison kept twitching back and forth, her eyes never hovering on any of the siblings for long but taking more time with Viktor than she ever had before.
Suddenly, she jerked forward and asked, “Is he pushing?”
Diego’s attention was snapped out of his thoughts and day-mares so that he could focus entirely on the brother that he had been taking care of during their long drive. “V? Hey, baby, I need you to look at me,” he made sure that his voice was soft and compassionate as he said that.
Viktor had, in fact, been pushing for the last ten minutes at least while they sped through Texas. He shifted so that he was leaning back against the front seat and looking towards Diego. His chest was heaving for breath but he focused on panting like he had practiced with his midwife when they were preparing for the birth.
None of the siblings said anything about the inherently romantic pet name that their brother had just called the laboring man, focusing entirely on the way that Viktor was cupping something between his legs. His hands had moved under the sundress that he was wearing somewhere in the twenty minutes that they had all been quiet. The billowy material of the outfit was enough that none of them could make out what it was.
Diego brought the cloth down and brushed the edges of it over his red-hued cheeks to try and help him cool down. “Just breathe, baby, just breathe. You’re doing so well, working to bring our kid into the world. Don’t worry about anything else, we’ve got it.”
The words rushed over him like the soothing water from the cloth. He felt some of the tension in his muscles relax as he continued to let his body do what it needed to. His eyes fluttered shut for a moment as he felt the head, which had been crowning for quite some time, finally reach the apex and then slip out of him entirely. He had been feeling the soft, dirty, downy hair of his baby while he waited for that very thing to happen. Now that it had, he simply cradled the little head while he waited for the next pain to take over him.
Allison and Klaus shared a look with each other as they realized who the father of their brother’s baby was. It wasn’t like the pseudo-incest that any relationship between the Academy kids had been taboo. Allison and Luther had been making moon-eyes at each other since they were thirteen and they had all been raised as child soldiers instead of siblings like others might have been. It was just surprising because up until that very moment, all of them had assumed that the duo hated each other based on the way that Diego had acted during their father’s wake.
Soon, Allison recovered from the shock and turned around so that she could continue to enquire about the situation. “Diego, is he pushing?”
During the time that she had been asking him that, Viktor felt another contraction come on so he pushed harder. He let his head fall back against the front seat of the car and then whimpered when the shoulders of the baby finally slipped from him and into his waiting hands.
One second he was pushing with all his might to rid his body of the tiny infant coming out of him and the next both of his hands were full of baby. He completed the movement by removing the baby from underneath his dress and placing them on his chest, cradled protectively in his arms.
“Holy shit,” Diego whispered as he felt his eyes go wide. He might have gotten faint at the sight of needles, but blood and whatever else the newborn was covered with weren’t affecting him in the slightest. He had never felt more awake than he did in that very moment, staring at the squirming body of his firstborn.
“What? What just happened?” Klaus asked as he tried to glance back into the backseat using the rearview mirror. They had just passed by a rest stop so the amount of cars that they were passing increased enough that he had to pay attention to the road.
“Oh my God,” Allison gasped as she watched her brother slowly sink down into a sitting position with the baby grasped in his arms.
All of the noise and Allison’s insistent questions was enough to tear Luther away from where he was staring out the back window for any threats. He was now staring directly ahead, where all other eyes were, on the sweaty forehead of their brother next to the grimy body of the newest Hargreeves family member. “Viktor literally just gave birth,” he said as a way of explanation for Klaus.
Diego was the first to recover from the shock. He turned around and then flipped his body over the back seat. Luther barely even noticed that he was there, until the taller man was pushed almost unceremoniously to the side so that Diego could grab the delivery kit from where it was on top of the suitcase full of baby clothes. He also snagged a towel before he turned back around and dumped the former of the two items down. He handed the towel over to Viktor as he slid down onto the floor.
“You did this, you brought this baby into the world,” he smiled so wide that his cheeks hurt. It was hard for him to really grasp, that in a moment, without even knowing it, his baby had been born and he had become a father. The mere idea that Viktor had been that quick and efficient in giving life to another human made him all the more amazed with his boyfriend.
“S-sorry I didn’t tell you, I got too wrapped up in trying to get it over with,” Viktor replied breathlessly as his eyes flit up to where his sister was staring at the baby in dazed wonderment.
Diego leaned down and pressed a kiss to his wet forehead. “You have nothing to apologize for. I would take being surprised that I’m now a dad over you suffering or feeling uncomfortable any day,” he explained. He set the towel down over the other side the baby so that they were sheltered entirely from the rest of the outside world.
The smaller man brought his hand up so that he was rubbing small circles on the baby’s back to start cleaning off some of the birth goop. He let out a small, adoring laugh when the newborn took in their first breath and began to wail so loudly that he was sure the cars passing by could hear. “Hi baby, hey,” he whispered happily. He shifted a little bit, with Diego’s help, so that he was laying against the door with his legs spread out so that his knees weren’t bent any longer.
Diego got up onto the seat of the car and began to unpack what was in the birth pack the midwife had sent. He got out the clamps first so that he could cut the cord like he needed to. “Roll them out towards me?” he asked Viktor.
The other man complied, shifting the baby around so that the neonate was facing up towards the ceiling while still protectively wrapped up in the towel. “A little boy. We’ve got a little boy, Vik,” Diego was almost crying as he got a good look at his son. He would have been happy with either sex and he would be happy with any gender that his child may or may not decide he wanted to be in the future. He was more marveling about every little detail he got to know about his baby now that the little one was finally there.
“We do, he’s our little boy,” Viktor beamed at him before he looked down at the newborn with a fascination that only a brand new parent could have.
Allison instructed Diego on about how far down he had to cut the cord based on what she remembered from when she gave birth to Claire. They gave it an extra little bit just so that they could be sure they weren’t hurting the newborn.
He shifted again, placing the clamp back in the bag now that they had tied and cut the cord. He wet a towel with the water from the bowl and handed it to Viktor before he dumped the rest of it out of the rolled down window. He then placed the bowl on the ground of the car so that they could use it to catch the afterbirth when it finally came. He knew that much from the mandatory lessons about childbirth they had to take during their first aide training.
“We’re about an hour away from the safehouse where we’re going to be able to bury it, sorry,” Klaus said as he checked the roadsigns that they were passing by.
“It’ll fly by now that we’ve got him here,” Viktor whispered as he looked down at his son. He had finished washing the baby off so that he was now spotless, pinked skin and kicking his chubby legs like his life depended on it.
They managed to get some clothes from the back thanks to Luther rooting through it until he found something that looked to be about the right size. Once the baby was changed into a diaper and onesie, Viktor wrapped him up in the baby blanket that Sissy had given him when he first found out he was pregnant. “You wanna hold him? I have to pass the afterbirth and then I want to change into something so I can feed him.”
That question was one that, for some reason, he hadn’t really been expecting to be asked. He knew that the baby was his and eventually he would hold his son, especially since he wasn’t going to be distant like some of the fathers he had seen in the sixties or his own. Still, it came as a bit of a shock to him and sent his brain reeling.
He ended up just opening his arms for the newborn instead of being able to give an affirmative properly. All of his words were stuck in his throat, like they got every time he was worried about something. He carefully took the baby into his arms and then sat back on the seat of the car while staring down at the tiny face of the newborn. His son was still wailing loudly since it was overwhelming and confusing to be out in the world when he had been in the protection of Viktor’s womb only moments before.
The aforementioned man moved so that he was in a squatting position above the bowl and grunted as he pushed one last time and the afterbirth came out of him. Allison ended up looking it over with a pair of gloves from he birthing kit so that they could make sure it was the entire thing.
Viktor was changed out of the now completely ruined sundress into a pair of baggy pajama pants and one of the button up shirts for ease of access when he was breastfeeding. His belly was still there but it wasn’t nearly as large or hard as it had been when the baby was inside. Diego got him set up on the seat part of the back with the pillow they had grabbed from the house propping him up against the door. He sat on the floor, though the blanket that had once been down there was now rolled up on the other side with the afterbirth bowl tucked inside of it so that no one had to look at it.
The rest of the siblings were quiet, each of them processing the fact that they had just become uncles and an aunt. Luther was staring out the back of the car to protect them from attacks in that direction and Klaus was focusing on driving.
Diego brushed his fingers over the soft hair on the back of the baby’s head while Viktor focused on helping the baby get his first feeding. “It’s hard to believe that he’s real. I know he’s mine though, he’s already got my nose and lips.”
“He’s got your eyes too. The shape of them. The blue will go away eventually,” Viktor said affectionately. “I think. It’s possible we’ve both got blue eyed parents and we don’t know.”
“I know he’s all squished and lopsided right now but he really does look like us.” He was marveling over that fact for several minutes until he finally asked, “What are we going to name him?”
“I was hoping that we could name him something Russian. I know that you’re Spanish and that’s also very important to you but… I just wanted something to connect him back to my own mother since I was thinking about her a lot when I was pregnant,” Viktor said, his voice small and nervous.
“Something Russian,” Diego hummed as he thought about it, not even questioning it.
“Rasputin,” Klaus said from the front seat. That got a laugh from the rest of the siblings, which was enough to make them all relax a little bit. None of them seemed to realize how the nerves of the baby being born on top of fleeing to a safehouse had worn on them until that joke finally broke the tension like a ball of glass.
They went quiet again, though it was a lot more easy this time. Diego brushed his fingers over the back of the baby’s head. “Aleksei?”
Viktor looked at him, tearing his eyes away from their baby’s now sleeping face for only a moment. “Aleksei Benjamin Hargreeves. I like it.”
In the front seat, despite being the person that had been most relaxed through the entire process of driving to the safehouse, Klaus tensed up. He turned to the side where Allison was sitting, though it was pretty obvious that he wasn’t looking at her. He glanced to the backseat and said, “Ben says he’s honored.”
None of them could say anything about that, but Viktor leaned forward so that he wasn’t directly crying down onto the baby as he suppressed a sob. Diego moved so that his boyfriend was laying down in between his legs and surrounded by his warmth. They stayed like that until they got to the safehouse, forty five minutes after Aleksei had been born.
Luther carried Viktor into the house, which they found to have two bedrooms and be completely furnished with anything that someone would need to live there for upwards of two weeks. Diego was put in charge of getting all of Viktor’s clothes set out along with setting up the cot for the baby to sleep in. Luther was in charge of digging the whole for the afterbirth while Allison and Klaus worked on getting some food ready for the rest of their family.
Viktor chose to be in the living room while all of that was happening. He had been separated from his siblings for his entire life and he had just been through something deeply traumatic and frightening, so he didn’t want to be away from them again so soon. Aleksei seemed to be soothed by being around Diego anyway, and he was building the small cot in the living room where there was more room.
Another half hour had passed by the time that the tell-tale pop of Five teleporting sounded around the room. “You all got here safe, good,” Five breathed out. He looked worn out and tired, like he had lived an entire life between when he had told them to come here and that moment.
“Hey, do you want a grilled cheese? I know you prefer that peanut butter monstrosity but Viktor got to choose because… well,” Klaus waved the cheese-covered spatula towards the aforementioned brother.
Five’s brow furrowed together with confusion before he turned towards Viktor. He was laying on the couch with a blanket draped over his legs and part of his chest as he nursed the newborn again. The eldest-youngest brother blinked a few times and then said, “What the fuck?”

Growing Up Curious
Five Hargreeves x OC | TUA Canon Universe | Slow Burn Relationship
Summary || When little Noa Lavigne eventually finds her way to the Umbrella Academy, she's tired and cold and really quite hungry. The sky is weeping on this very special day, exactly six years since her horrendously inexplicable birth — not that she knows much about dates or magical circumstances. Life changes after that, both slowly and quickly, but discovering there are others like her in such a lonely world at least gives her something to hold onto.
They call each other 'brother' and 'sister'. She's not allowed to use those words. Only their numbers and perhaps their names in secret.
They call the sweet, soft looking woman 'Mom'. She can't use that word either. That woman is Miss Grace, just like how the gentlemanly chimp is Mister Pogo.
And perhaps more than anything, she is not allowed to use the word 'Dad' for the severe, monocle wearing man that begrudgingly accepted her amidst his children. He is Sir Reginald to her and nothing else.
But there are minutes. Between training, between chores, between the forced isolation, there are minutes of rebellion and kindness and donuts. At some point, she becomes a little bit more than the extra child that stumbled into their lives on a rainy day.
Warnings || angst, violence, Umbrella Academy brand child abuse, descriptions of injuries, drugs and alcohol, isolation, dehumanizing characters, Reginald Hargreeves (yes, he deserves his own warning), cursing (if I missed anything, please let me know!)
