Pride in a jar #2 - lesbian

Les Float Jar - the second of my magical creatures in jars themed to pride flags, this one themed to the lesbian flag colors. My original art made in Procreate, please credit if you re-use.

Do you get it? The way Orzammar ended up loathing Oghren because he was everything his home demanded him to be? Listen to me he's too violent and hot-blooded and reaches for the nearest weapon far too quickly to be allowed to live peacefully in a city still standing because of him and people like him listen. He's a hero and he's no use to anyone like this. Is it really a surpise that he's left behind by his family? And really, it's kind of sad watching him try everything in his power to get them back. He leaves and it's better this way for everyone and he doesn't even miss Orzammar (he does) and he settles into a different life until he doesn't and listen. Do you understand? He's so resentful. He's still clinging onto it all he knows he is and he can't do anything to stop I am gripping you by your shoulders right now do you get it? He joins the wardens he's no longer a dwarf he's a Grey Warden and he wants you to side with the Architect because maybe, maybe that'll help keeping the darkspawn away from Orzammar. Do you get what I'm saying. He doesn't want anything to do with Orzammar anymore. He wants his home to be safe so bad. Can I put whatever the hell was going on in that writers room on a petri dish.

#there are (many) fair criticisms about the way oghren was handled but i don't love this idea that there wasn't. you know. an effort #like when his writing is good then it's REALLY good and the pitfalls in the character wouldn't be so jarring otherwise imo #dragon age #dragon age origins #oghren #my posts

i've seen a bunch of gifsets already of falin's great big bouncing tits and that's wonderful, genuinely, but can someone gif her clawing up that wall and dashing away from the fight? it really accentuates the 'monster' part in monstergirl and i'm obsessed

i think a lot of what keeps a character sympathetic * honestly, is just letting them have good intentions and even better, a genuine lack of awareness. even if they're lying to themselves, and we know they're lying to themselves, they have to earnestly believe that they're not. they have to truly believe that what they're doing is right, even if we know it isn't, and that it's not self motivated, even when it often is.

take, for example, viren, claudia, and rayla. they both make massive mistakes (basically everything viren and claudia have ever done / rayla leaving callum the way they did) and most of those mistakes were self motivated. claudia bought her father's gaslighting because she wanted to believe in a world where her family could stay together, and then overruled viren's reservations about his ressurection when she brought him back; viren does many terrible things in arc 1, but is genuinely motivated by what he believes is ultimately better, long term, for the world at large even over his family, or that he knows better for his family in general, and having that lie stripped away is so much what s5 is about. for rayla, she's so selfless it rounds back into being selfish, where she had the security of knowing callum was safe while he worried over her for two years, leading to her deeply wounding him even when that was the last thing she wanted (and deeply hurting herself). they all thought they were genuinely doing the right thing, often putting themselves on the chopping block for their choices (claudia and rayla in particular) even as it just made everything worse.

but even when we see them being selfish, we know they're still genuinely motivated by their love for other people, and it's coming out in very misguided ways, we can still have sympathy, we can still understand. and that to me is great character writing

* obviously sympathy isn't the most important to feel towards a character, but it can certainly be helpful in having an audience be interested in, at the very least, understanding them even if we don't like them

#tdp #the dragon prince #why it ends why it always ends #mini meta #also one of the reasons i think catra fell flat bc #1) she always has awareness that what shadow weaver & the horde is doing is Terrible and just #does not Care and 2) she prioritizes her own selfish desires and ego over anyone who might care about her over & over again #with no 'oh but i love them i'm doing this for their own good' like no she's just ruining their lives and doing whatever she wants #which makes the switch in s5 jarring and way too sudden #spop critical #in the tags

We know how Hiccup broke Toothless out of the Bewilderbeast's control, did he do something similar to little Hiccup or did he manage break both of them at the same time in the half brothers au?

Unfortunately, Elder wouldn't be able to get through to both of them at the same time. As long as Younger was riding Big Tooth and they were both mind controlled, they were both far too dangerous to try talking to.

So Elder had to sneak in close on his baby dragon, land on Big Tooth, and literally throw Younger out of the saddle.

Don't worry though!! Little Fishlegs and Camicazi would go on to catch him on their baby zippleback and, together with Baby Toothless, bring him out of his mind control. <3

Elder would be in Big Tooth's saddle now and he'd try to bring back Toothless from there! It would be a little different from the movie since Drago isn't riding Toothless, but I trust Hiccup would figure something out.
