Night Terrors

Tom Hiddleston x reader.

Summary: you have a movie night at RDJ’s house with the entire marvel cast and it turns out in a sleepover. You and Tom were very close from the beginning. Everyone knew you found yourself in a hard time and they were always there for you. But when you all fell asleep you were cruelly awakened by a nasty nightmare. Tom tries his best to comfort you.

Warnings: Angst, ptsd (in my experience because everyone experience ptsd differently.), night terrors, passing of a loved one. Age-gap but definitely legal! Reader is about 24. Nudity but not sexual and a lot of comfort

It was a Saturday night and RDJ invited the whole marvel cast for a nice bbq and a movie night over his house. You were an beginning actress as well and this was your first big role. You did on the other hand directed a lot of small films which gave you an identity on it’s own. People loved the movies that you wrote and directed and loved to see you play in one. You were actually interested in acting as well so you took the opportunity with both hands when Marvel asked you to play in a movie.

You met Tom, Benedict and Sebastian already. They all acted separately in your movies. But the closest connection you had with Tom. You actually developed a huge crush on the British actor but you thought he saw you as a little sister. Not only that but you started working together as well.

Tom would pick you up to go to RDJ’s house together. You heard your doorbell go off and opened the door seeing a smiling Tom. “Hey Tom!” you said excited and he pulled you in a big hug. “Hello love, how are you doing?” he asked you. “I’m trying.” You told him and he gave you a weak smile. “I actually called my godmother today…” you told him. “really? How did it go?” he asked you. “We talked for about an hour and a half. It was very hard. I was becoming emotional but I didn’t want to cry…. Still in my system I guess.” You told him while he listened intently. “I’m so proud of you. I bet it was hard. But you are making so much progress and you’re really trying. You’re so strong and such a strong woman.” He told you giving you a hug. You nuzzled into his sweater. “Thank you Tom.” You told him.

Everyone knew you had a difficult time with the passing of your godfather. You always saw him as your father since your biological dad was a shithead to say nicely. So when he passed it was a big shock for everyone. It was sudden and unexpected. It also triggered your ptsd. You were always very open about mental health but at this moment it was a very hard time for you. The whole cast was there for you but Tom was always there and could read you like an open book. Which scared you as well because you were afraid that he would know about your secret crush on him.

When it happened you were all alone and tried to stay strong for your family like he asked you and so you did. Then came the roll around which he knew about and you promised him you would take him to the premiere. So with the premiere around the corner you felt yourself crumbling down. besides that you never really had time to process everything and try to heal from what happened. So when you were having a big breakdown one day, they all found out what was happening. Tom spend a lot of time with you after that. More than he already had. He was determined to never let you be alone again in one difficult moment.

You got your stuff and your present for RDJ and hopped in the car with Tom. He obviously helping you as the gentleman that he is. You chatted for a while about funny things and you told him you were writing a new script for a movie. “maybe you can read it sometime if you want and let me know what you think?” you asked him carefully. Tom’s heart filled itself with love that you trusted him enough to let him read your new script. “I would love to!” he told you honestly and you smiled while looking at the road.

Once arrived RDJ opened the door and hugged you tightly. You walked into the big house and saw that a lot of the cast was already there and you hugged them all. “oh I brought you something!” you told RDJ. “oh you didn’t have to!” he told you while gripping the present and opening it with a big smile. “can’t come empty handed! They raised me differently” you told him giggling. “You see! You can all take a note from Y/N here!” he told the marvel cast who were laughing. You made him a painting. Ever since he saw how you painted he wanted one and wouldn’t shut up about it so you thought this was the perfect time. “it’s absolutely beautiful y/n” he told you mesmerized by the painting. He pulled you in a big hug. “we’ll find a nice place to hang it up together later.” He told you softly which made you smile.

You all took a seat and started to eat. You all had laughs and sat outside in the evening. His garden was beautiful. There were fairy lights to make it cozy and a fire was burning. You sat contently staring at the fire in silence. Tom noticed that you had gotten more silent and he laid his hand on top of yours, looking at you. You got out of the daze and looked at Tom, immediately meeting his blue eyes. He smiled sweetly at you and took your hand in his now. his thumb caressing the top of your hand. You felt your cheeks heat up. he wasn’t planning on letting your hand go anytime soon.

After an hour you all decided to go inside to watch a movie on his big tv screen. The cast started to bicker over what movie to watch while RDJ tapped you on your shoulder and hinted to walk with him. You walked in the hallway with him and he looked around. “what about that place?” he asked you while holding the painting. He nudged to the end of the hall where everyone could see it. “are you sure?” you giggled and he looked strict at you. “Look what you made! Of course I’m sure!” he told you dramatically which made you giggle. “Then it’s a beautiful place” you both hang the painting on the wall. RDJ took a selfie with you, him and the painting before returning to the group.

You sat next to Tom and Chris E. Tom smiled lovingly at you and softly placed his hand on your knee. There were mattresses laying on the floor where the other half of the cast laid down. RDJ had a very big couch so there was enough space for all of you. You snuggled against Tom who laid his arm around you pulling you closer. It didn’t take long before you grew very tired. The others felt the same, some left to go home like Paul Rudd, Mark R and Paul Bettany since they lived close by. a couple of others could stay in the guestrooms but you rather stay downstairs.

When everyone settled the TV still played some background noise. You were now laying with your back to Tom but turned around. Tom watched you intently, getting his arm a little of you so you could turn. You laid now face to face with Tom and he smiled softly once again at you and kissed the top of your head. Chris E softly petted your hair for relaxation. Tom held you close to him with his arms wrapped around you. You rested your head against his chest and fell into a deep sleep.

~time skip~

You were woken up abruptly by people shaking you awake. You shoot up sweating. Tears filling your eyes once you remembered the nightmare. You were breathing heavily and looked around erratically. Chris E shushed you while Tom held you tightly while rocking you back and forth. You were wet from all the sweating. “hey shs it was a nightmare. You’re okay now.” Chris E told you. Tom placed his lips on the top of your head while keeping a protected grip on you. “You were calling for your godfather.” Chris E told you. Anthony came back from the kitchen with a glass of water and gave it to you. You now saw how concerned they all looked. Seb rested his hand on your knee while his thumb rubbed drew circles. You thanked Anthony but you really didn’t liked all the attention you were getting right now. “sorry for waking you all up.” they chuckled slightly “Don’t worry about it, we’re here for you y/n” Seb said. You pushed the tears away and Tom noticed that you were keeping it all in again. “why don’t we go outside for a minute? I think some fresh air would do you good.” Tom asked you and you nodded.

You got up and whished them a goodnight sleep so they wouldn’t wait up. Tom got a blanket and walked behind you. once outside Tom placed you on a chair and you looked up at the stars feeling the tears slip. He took your hand in his. “what was the dream about?” he asked carefully. You told him about your dream while crying. You tried to let everything out. Once you were done Tom stood up without saying anything and stretched out his hand for you. You looked up questionable with puffy eyes. he gave you a warm smile and you took his hand. RDJ had a sort of bed outside. It was more for the pool but there was a mattress with curtains. You smiled at the thought of how good Tom knew you. You didn’t want to go inside anymore and he seemed to get that. Luckily it wasn’t very cold outside.

You sat down on the lounge bed. Tom pulled you a little back so you both sat against the headboard. “I never knew him, only from the stories you told me and I believe full heartedly that he is so unbelievable proud of you. Of the woman you became and becoming, everything that you did and overcame and still the things you are working on. We can all see that and we all have so much respect for you. You are a role model for a whole lot of people! It’s okay to feel these feelings but you need to keep talking about them.” You felt tears slipping. He wrapped the blanket around himself and then around you which made you scoot closer to him. “he’s watching over you. I’m sure and he’s looking over you with probably the biggest smile.” You both laid down and looked at the stars. “Thank you Tom. For being there for me every time.” He looked at you. “Of course love” you stared at the stars with teary eyes while Tom kept looking at you.

Once you calmed down you said: “Tom, you’re staring.” While keeping your gaze at the stars. He smiled. “you’re more beautiful to look at.” He bluntly told you. You never turned your head faster than in that moment. He just smiled softly at you while you screened his face. He laid his head closer to yours. “do you mean that?” you asked him softly while looking down shyly. “I never say something I don’t mean y/n” you stayed silent in disbelieve. “I eh really like you.” he told you with a blush creeping on his cheek. You looked deeply into his eyes. “I really like you too Tom.” He smiled and came closer until your lips connected. His hand rested on your cheek. He gave you the lead at the moment and you took that opportunity to deepen the kiss. He rolled partly on top of you while leaning on his elbow, his other hand now going to your waist and rubbed with his thumbs your side.

You both pulled back and heard Sebastian and Chris H and E scream “Finally!!!” before going back inside which made you both laugh in embarrassment. You laid down on his chest while Tom kissed the top of your head. “Do you maybe want to be my girlfriend?” he asked carefully which made you chuckle at the way he asked you, like a teenager in love. “I would like that” you said while lifting your gaze to look up at him and gave him a big kiss on his lips which made Tom sigh through the kiss in containment.

~time skip~

You woke up from clicking. It sounded like someone was taking pictures. You squeezed your eyes shut tight because of the sun but saw Chris H taking pictures along side RDJ. “so we can show your kids once you get them.” RDJ said casually. You chuckled. Tom sighed getting out of his slumber his arm tightened around your middle scooting you closer. “Awa let’s give these lovebirds some time to wake up, we made you both some coffee.” Chris H told you while pointing towards the warm mugs. “Thank you.” You told them giggling a little. Once they left you turned around to face Tom. He still had his eyes closed and your fingers traveled along his facial features. “Good morning love” he told you still with his eyes closed but with a smile. “good morning handsome.” He opened his eyes and smiled lovingly at you while connecting your lips again. You cuddled into his side. “this is nice” you told him. “It really is. Now I don’t mind waking up” he told you which made you chuckle.

Once you both got up you all had breakfast together and decided it was a nice warm day to go swimming. Tom brought you home so you could pick up your stuff and off you went to the beach. You all laid down in the soft sand and chatted away and shared funny stories. You all decided to take a swim. Once in the boys started a water fight. Scarlett sat on the shoulders of Chris E and you were on the shoulder of Tom. You both tried to push each other off but both fell in the process. Now it was the turn of the boys. Sebastian on the shoulders of Chris E and Anthony on the shoulders of Chris H. It took a while but in the end Sebastian fell and Anthony cheered which made you giggle.

You started swimming a little with Tom by your side. You were on his back while he slowly swam back and forth. You got off of his back and put both of your legs around his waist and hugged him tightly. He grabbed your chin to give you a kiss. Once you both got a little tired of swimming you both got out and dried up.

After a nice day at the beach you were tired out. Especially because of the night before. Tom brought you home. “Tom…? Can you please stay with me tonight?” you asked him softly. “of course love, let me grab my stuff and I’ll be back in an hour” he told you and gave you a kiss before you got out of the car.

You in the meanwhile cleaned your house a little and made your bed and took a shower to get all the sand off of you. You were done just in time for Tom to come. You opened the door and you saw that he showered as well. then your sight fell on the bottle of wine he brought and a brown back. “I went to the store and got us some snacks.” You smiled and let him in. He put everything on your kitchen counter. You poured you both a generous amount of wine and plopped on the couch. You put on a movie for you both to watch. After you drank the wine and ate some snacks you became even more tired. “Let’s get you to bed.” Tom told you. He took your hand and turned off all the lights.

You both got ready for bed and got in. “Tom? Can you maybe read to me?” you asked him shyly but he knew his voice calmed you down and it wouldn’t be the first time that he would read for you. “of course sweetheart.” He started to read to you while you laid in his arms and you softly drifted off to fall asleep in yet another night terror.

You sat up suddenly, breathing heavy and once again sweating. Tom softly sat up next to you and rubbed your back. “I’m sorry.” You told him feeling guilty and out of breath. “It’s okay love really. Don’t worry about that I’m here for you” Once you regained a steady breathing he asked you “ Let’s take a shower okay?” you nodded and he took your hand and lead you to your own bathroom. “I’ll wait outside okay?” but the thought of being alone scared you a lot at this moment giving you an anxiety attack. “No Tom please stay.” You begged saying it a little too fast for your own liking. “I’m sorry if you feel comfortable with that.” You told him again and he gave you a soft smile. You both stripped out of your clothes. “I can keep my underwear on if you’d like.” He told you not trying to make you feel uncomfortable in any situation. “No it’s fine, if you’re okay with it.” you told him and he nodded. He stripped out of his boxers and you out of your underwear.

You looked at each other but at the moment it wasn’t sexual but more for comfort. He stepped in the shower first and took your hand helping you in. you the shower on and Tom massaged your head you turned around and rested your head on his shoulder while he put his arms around you. You started to cry. You felt so safe that you had all the space for your feelings. Tom hushed you while giving kisses on your head. Trying to give you comfort. You stood there for a good while just hugging each other. When you calmed down you both got out and Tom dried you off. “You are absolutely gorgeous.” He told you kissing your shoulder. You looked up at him and you made eye contact. He slowly held your face in his hands and gave you a soft kiss that turned passionately. Before anything could go further you both stopped. He helped you in his shirt and got into bed again.

Everything he did, he did with so much care and love that it was something you’ve never experienced before and it was heavenly. You laid both face to face and just looked at each other. His thumb softly caressing your cheek. You both didn’t have to exchange words, everything said it all. You went with your fingers over his features again while looking in his eyes. It held so much love and adoration that it felt you up with love. “forever” he said softly “forever you said back and he smiled. It said it all, you were both an open book for each other and it felt like you’ve read that book a hundreds of times and you knew each line. That was how good your connection was. An beautiful antique book with it’s wrinkles and faded lines. Handled with love and care and reading it over and over again never getting tired of the story as the letters danced on the pages.

You looked at Tom and you both kissed each other falling this time in a peaceful sleep in the arms of the man you love the most and he in the arms of the woman he loves the most.

so I thought about the y/n and Drew moving in together and my brain jumped to the following solution: since y/n graduated, she could move to LA however it doesn’t have to be permanent and thus because Drew needs to be in LA just because he’s at a point in his career where he still has to audition for roles but as he gets more famous, directors will call him directly and he won’t need to go through the casting process anymore. For instance take Paul Rudd: he lives in NY because he doesn’t have to audition, people come to him with roles. So eventually, if they want something a little more private, the could move to NY in the future.

Yes I feel very strongly the NY is better than LA thing.

I feel the same way, I think NY is better than LA for sooo many different reasons.

I’m thinking of maybe having y/n move with Drew to LA but she gets very homesick and almost depressed from the move?? But she doesn’t want him to know, and he’s really missing the life they didn’t even know they were building in NY so I think they’d eventually move to NY but also having a place in LA and eventually in NC or SC (wherever he’s from)

MCU Lip Sync Battle: Episode 5 and 6 - Jeremy Renner vs Paul Rudd and Sebastian Stan vs Anthony Mackie

Jeremy was the first to go against Paul in the 2nd round. He did something a bit different. He went all dramatic, like in the 1st episode but it was a bit modern, as he did the song, 'Make Your Own Kind of Music' by Paloma Faith, which was true to his musical style at the moment.

"Nobody can tell you, there's only one song worth singing..."

It was him, a spotlight on him wearing a leather jacket and jeans, and a mic stand. He put his heart out during the performance and he was sweating by the end of it. He also put a middle finger towards Paul, just because.

Paul nodded and smiled at him as he clapped. "Wow. Very, very dramatic. But just, watch and learn Renner. Watch and learn."

Jeremy put his hands up in surrender and gestured Paul towards the stage.

It was time for Paul to take to the stage and 'Finesse' by Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B came on and he handled both the rap and singing perfectly.

It was a very comedic performance as they saw Paul going all out, like he did on the Jimmy Fallon show with the song, 'Don't Stop Me Now'. Loads of funny facial expressions and mannerisms but he was a really good dancer, despite all that. He was wearing a normal suit but he was also wearing a hat saying, "Fuck you, Renner!"

Jeremy just shook his head and laughed by the end of the performance as Paul dropped the mic in a swagger fashion.

Who won? Well, that's for you to decide!

It was Sebby vs Mackie next.

After the 1st round consisting of Mackie doing 'No' by Meghan Trainor and Seb doing 'Love on Top' by Beyonce, Anthony was first in round 2 with 'Independent Women Pt.1' by Destiny's Child. He wanted to do it for all the women out there who didn't feel they were worthy.

He shook his hips to the beat as he mouthed, "Lucy Liu. With my girl, Drew. Cameron D and Destiny..."

He was dressed as Beyonce from the iconic video and did a bit of the Single Ladies dance in it with a bit of gymnastics. Especially a litle backflip.

"Cut the check!" He would say at the end of his performance.

Sebastian smiled and clapped, knowing his performance will be mind-blowing. To the ladies, especially.

Finally, it was Seb's turn. A spotlight went on him as he was suiting a police officer outfit. The first notes of the song made all of the ladies cheer. Mackie was shocked at his co-star's song choice. It was 'Earned It' by The Weeknd. Yeah, from Fifty Shades of Grey.

His performance was the most seductive one of the whole series of Lip Sync Battle. Grinding, twerking and all kinds of stuff.

Sonic meet Sonic in DuckTales

I guess you are confused by that tittle so here is explanation:

Yes that’s right! We have between guests star Jaleel White who was first voice actor of Sonic in cartoons like Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog SATAM, Sonic Undergroung (plus 18 minutes lenght fan-film Sonic The Hedgehog) considering that Ben Schwartz whose voicing Dewey Duck is also voice of Sonic in the new movie Sonic The Hedgehog (also there is Adam Pally who also played in movie but that’s just bonus). So I made this drawing imagining how their conversation would look like. I know Teen (Movie) Sonic looks different from my first one but that’s because the earlier picture was made before drawing video with Tyson Heese from Paramount Pictures Channel:

So as I was working on that drawing, I realized a few things:

A - Season 3 of Ducktales was in process before movie (or in middle in some circumstances)

B - Drawing hands is really not easy task😅

C - Tom Holland, Josh Gad, Chris Pratt, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Will Forte, Jim Parsons, Charlie Day, Paul Rudd, and Adam Devine were all considered for the voice of Sonic but it was Ben Schwartz who get the lead role.

Why? Because he is really good at performing not just voice but also face expression of course. But what if he had a little help? What if Jaleel White actually taught him like Paige O'Hara taught Emma Watson in BATB remake? Is this how he was good in Sonic Movie? So in short I’m shocked, I’m confused, there’s questions on my head and clearly I need answers for.

Okay I may quote the “There’s a fish on my head” clip but I’m still curious if it is true or not. If some of you has twitter account can you send this picture to Ben Schwartz and ask him about this please?

And also you can tell him that he was awesome in movie and wish good luck in future possible sequels and health through coronavirus crisis from me.

I hope you like it Zoocross0ver, I know this is not Zootopia but technically this indeed includes Disney with Ducktales and me still working on Sonic/Zootopia crossover doodles and also me mention BATB right. Speaking of BATB I’m gonna also post a video of my favourite podcasts talking BATB in many forms and with some luck maybe we’ll see special episode including Zootopia (I’ll explain this later).

Aww! You drew chili dog Sonic! I used to love “The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog” series! I used to watch it all the time with my brothers when I was a kid!

This is some interesting trivia! I was wondering what you meant when you said “Sonic meet Sonic in Ducktales”

Makes sense knowing that Sonic and Dewey from Ducktales share a voice! I think his voice does fit the character well. Though I like a lot of the other actors that were considered, I don’t think their voices would’ve fit as well ^^”

Yeah, hands are not easy to draw. I wonder if this artist was brought in during Sonic’s redesign or during his ugly design phase, lol! xD

Do Twitter stans not understand that Tyler came into DAYS drunk for a shoot? Like the guy could still have problems or maybe GH sees him as a liability. Maybe this new Nikolas is good.

I don’t think so...only people who pay more attention do. I didn’t know until people began talking about it when he was leaving Days cuz it was weird he was leaving but instead of ending Stefan SL they brought Brandon in to finish (which was gooood because now Stefan became more popular character and Stefan/Gabi popular pairing plus btw Brandon will be back at Days in Spring or Summer 2020). Also, you could tell by the end of Tyler’s Stefan’s run....it was meh. Not saying he wouldn’t done an okay job but you could tell kinda like the Billy thing.

Tyler can’t come back for personal reasons and GH is already trash do people really want a repeat of Billy/Drew thing?? And yeah GH couldn’t risk that and he must still not at a 110% good place yet.

At least this actor seems good, awake, and cute. my friend on twitter was saying wow a lot of soap fans are old white women cuz they were flipping out over the age GKDGDKHDHD

literally he is around same age as tyler, he just got that becky herbst and paul rudd skin routine. it’s fine yall....

you should be rooting for them to do a GOOOOOD story and not some bs like the Jason bullshit (which you know will happen smh).

Ant-Man and the Wasp review: spoilers

So, a little late to the party, but this weekend I saw Marvel’s newest entry to the MCU, Ant-Man and the Wasp...and I loved it! (Rambling ensues now, beware of spoilers).

The superhero genre has gotten, shall we say, very touchily self aware of the danger of superhero fatigue. Some of the latest entries to the genre have felt like they’ve needed to justify their existence, to ramp up the drama and the seriousness of storylines, but Ant-Man and the Wasp is never so phased, which is great. Ant-Man and the Wasp knows exactly what it is from the moment go; a fun, superhero action movie about family.

The family dynamics of the story are the absolute core, and they shine as such. Scott and his daughter are sweet and real, Hank and Hope and Janet are so hopeful and bittersweet and lovely (curse you Thanos!!) and Ava and Bill are touching and strong. I’ve said before that Guardians of the Galaxy was Marvel’s “Fast and Furious IN SPACE,” and Ant-Man and the Wasp makes a great arguement for being “Fast and Furious WITH ALL THE SHRINKING” which just, A+. Sure, there is a little dramatic angst thrown in there, for the momentum, but the movie never sinks into melodrama or action schlock, and rides that wave well.

The character depictions, especially Hope and Hank and Scott are also so amazingly refreshing. Hope Van Dyne as Wasp could have easily have been “Action Girl,” the “strong, badass woman who don’t need no man,” but instead she gets to show real vulnerability, with her father, her mother and Scott, while also kicking ass and taking names. The Wasp is undeniably my favourite female Marvel superhero right now, a crown I think will be hard to take from her.

More so, the way the movie just hardcore dismisses toxic masculinity is so, so important. Scott and Paxton (his ex-wife’s husband) have one of the best on screen ex-husband/new husband dynamics; no macho posturing or feeling threatened, but instead a combined goal to parent Cassie and a real respect for each other. Scott and his ex-wife’s relationship is also so well done; no overdone “shrill harpy of an ex-wife” here; rather we getMaggie passionately defending Scott’s right to privacy because she objects to his treatment and the way it portrays him in front of his daughter which is just so god damn refreshing. Hank, as well, gets softened; he’s still a cranky old man, but it’s touching to see how he was never threatened by his wife’s brilliance, and the sheer depth of that love he has for her. I’ve said it before, the snap in Infinity War didn’t really get me that emotional (because it’s so obviously how and that they’ll undo it) but seriously, after being so freaking invested in getting Janet back to Hank and Hope, to have it end like that, fuck that purple ballsack, for real.

The movie does sort of suffer from the “Marvel villain deficiency” in that it has two villains but also none. Ava Starr, the daughter of a previous work associate of Hank’s who is left with a phasing ability that is killing her, and that black market guy Walter Goggins played (I cannot remember his name) are both technically villains, but neither are truly either. That might bother some people, but it worked well for me; I didn’t need another “moustache twirling guy in version of the heroes super suit,” and Ava’s family driven arc worked well with the driving theme, with Goggins adding some needed momentum and comedic relief.

The movie isn’t without flaws of course; although I give the movie all the props for having characters pay the consequences for their actions (the house arrest thing was actually perfect, and I’d like Civil War to now be referred to as that movie where Ant-Man went to Germany with Captain America to draw on the walls please), the Hank/Ava/Bill tension was especially thin. Hank handwaves away Bill’s accusations that Ava’s condition is somehow his fault as “filling her head with lies” and we never get any deeper, or have any more fallout, than that. It very much feels like the screenwriter wrote NEED AVA TO HAVE PERSONAL VENDETTA AGAINST HANK BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE HANK UNLIKABLE and then just kind of left the outline as the plot. It’s not a deal breaker or anything, but it is undeniably a weak spot that could have been used to add some interesting moral complexity to the story. Janet’s assertion that “I’m not the same woman you knew/this place changed me” was another cliche that was a little on the nose, especially since we, the audience, don’t know who Janet was before. It’s about as subtle as a truck for saving Ava, and I snorted a little out loud at the line, and the cheese inducingness of it.

Still, I truly enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp. The new cast, especially Michelle Pfieffer, Hannah John-Kamen and Jimmy Woo all killed it, and the retuning cast were also fantastic. I’d absolutely recommend the movie to anyone whose a Marvel/superhero fan, or even just someone who wants to watch a funny action movie about family (and giant ants) that will make them feel good (AS LONG AS YOU SKIP THE END CREDITS SCENE MARVEL YOU ABSOLUTE BASTARDS). But seriously, 8/10 for me, would definitely watch again!

- the roller suitcase lab absolutely delivers

- Ant-tonio Banderas and “murderers”

- Janet and Hank in the subatomic my heart

- Hank and the would you please stop starring lovingly at each other so we can save my wife and escape from these nice policeman vibe was just absolutely hilarious

- “it is truth serum!”

- “Baba Yaga!!”

- Kid sized Scott and his juice box and string cheese

- Hope frantically trying to save giant Scott and then surfacing with tiny Scott in her palm like he’s the most precious thing ever 😍

WTF Podcast Index (2018)

Topher Grace - I have always had a soft spot for Topher Grace. I couldn't finish this episode because I want to keep having a soft spot for Topher Grace, and what I heard confirmed that Grace is really really boring and there are no interesting depths past his...sexy-sorta? eyes.

Maggie Gyllenhaal - This was an absolute delight because it was so familiar. I felt like I was back living on 136th and broadway, surrounded by too many people with Columbia degrees, who all knew how to let the world know that they went to Columbia while not being pretentious about it. I miss those days.

Jeff Daniels - I once heard a previous interview with Jeff and delayed listening to this one because I didn't need a full hour of jackassery. He always comes off like that guy who would defend a guy’s right to be a guy while NOT being the guy who would act on those so-called rights. That said, he will remain to me the coolest dad in a movie because of Fly Away Home.

Michael Douglas - I love Michael Douglas, full stop. And I wish casting directors will go back to casting actors and actresses based on chemistry. Romance is so dead in movies now because nobody knows how to bring the heat, and Douglas was always so good at that. Decent interview too. Light and nothing new.

D.L. Hughley - I was never a huge fan of Hughley the comedian, but this interview made me like the person a lot more.

Eric Idle - Michael Palin and John Cleese were always my favorite Monty Pythons, but Idle was always the one who seemed to be having the most fun, and what a joy this interview was.

John Cleese - I'm fiercely protective of comedians, but listening to this episode I conceded the point that sometimes they are not all brilliant creatures with a viewpoint that must be heard. And what a fucking gas bag John Cleese is in his old age.

Anna Faris - She seemed unhinged so I politely stopped a few minutes in.

Kristen Bell - Being a casual member of the marshmallow club, I could not hate anything about this interview. I'm still not watching "The Good Place".

Jay Leno - I loved this. Jay will be Jay. It was fascinating to hear him trying to "clear" his name, but also not denying any of the main gripes people have of him.

Ray Liotta - This was fun but it also made me sad that he is really only famous for two movies: Heartbreakers and that other movie...i forget. Oh right. Goodfellas.

Paul Rudd - I couldn't get through this. i don't remember why. Maybe a bit of a Topher Grace situation again?

Lil Rel Howery - The TSA man has (had?) a show on Fox that was impossible for me to get through. And I couldn't do the same for this interview.

Billy Bob Thornton - I couldn't get through this either. I'm always surprised by how normal Thornton comes off in interviews.

Holly Hunter - So I love Holly Hunter to freaky levels and I had to stop listening to this because once again, I didn't want to stop loving an actor. I'm quite sure if she could, she would have mentioned she doesn't own a tv and thinks social media is like bad for our culture.

Bob Balaban - I live in nyc. I didn't want to listen to an hour of a conversation I'd overhear ANYWHERE in this city.

Mary Steenburgen - This was so good! Until I realized, "wow this is just a lot of crap to absorb just for one actress who is famous for well nothing and we haven’t even left Arkansas yet!", so i stopped.

Josh Brolin - so, I'm quite sure there is some reason I am not supposed to like Josh Brolin, but I am going to ignore whatever these reasons are because he is funny as fuck and super friggin awesome. My favorite WTF this year.

Melissa McCarthy - She seemed incredibly levelheaded and awesome. I have loved her since Gilmore Girls, and that's never changing.

Drew Carey - Boy, he sure seemed super eager to launch into his "I am dark and with layers" stories. He also has a very annoying laugh. My younger brother was obsessed with the Drew Carey show and Whose line is it anyway. By osmosis, I loved these shows as well, which means I will love Drew Carey even if I shouldn't listen to another interview with him.

Bradley Whitford - I have bizarre crushes on actors that make no sense, and Josh from West Wing was such a case. I loved this interview, but I cannot recall why. I think it didn't get too personal but was a very good conversation.

Aisha Tyler - Aw man I have a weird soft spot for Aisha Tyler because The 5th Wheel was my jam. But listening to this made me sad because she seems sad? And I want her to be happy?

Jason Alexander - Jesus. A fucking asshole.

Neil Patrick Harris - Jesus. A fucking asshole.

Sean Penn - Jesus. A fucking asshole. And my god Marc. You're a liar: You know you hated his book.

Ted Danson - Impressions (all positive) of Ted Danson remain intact after this interview. Nothing groundbreaking but comforting to listen to.

Jennifer Lawrence - She tries way too hard to come off like she's not trying way too hard.

Heather Graham - Heather Graham is sweet. And this was a sweet interview.

Tracy Letts - I have a weird-as-fuck thing for him. I enjoyed this interview. I'm not a theater person, but I loved the August Osage movie. Also The Lovers was quite good.

Macaulay Culkin - I was deep into this and then stopped because I mean, whatever.

Richard Jenkins - "'Kershner' was in Kentucky!" I love him but I didn't finish this because well in the end he's just a character actor. I don't care THAT much.

Ta-Nehisi Coates - Oh how i miss the days of Coates writing with typos and having a lively Disqus community under his Atlantic posts. Now he bores me to fucking tears. Couldn't finish interview.

October Media Madness!

It’s the last day of the month, so you know what that means! What-no not Halloween! It’s time to see how one person wasted their time this month by keeping track of all the media they consumed! And if you thought October would mean a lot of horror movies and books and TV shows...you are going to be very disappointed because I’m a fucking wimp who hates horror.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Scott Pilgrim, aka the most intentionally unlikable protagonist ever, has to defeat the seven evil ex-boy...uh I mean exes of the cool girl he’s dating. Yeah, I’m super late to the Edgar Wright party, but since this movie was finally available on Netflix I figured it was time. And it’s pretty good aside from the fact that Scott is the worst. But at least he owns up to it in the end. It’s crazy over the top ridiculous, has tons of little details that film theorists love to salivate over, and Scott’s roommate Wallace is hilarious. I just wish I could hear what Michael Cera says half the time. Oh well, there’s nothing good or bad I can say about this movie that hasn’t been said before. 8/10

Coraline: Coraline Jones, an imaginative young girl with inattentive parents who has just moved into a new apartment, discovers a secret door that leads to a world where everything is better, and everyone has buttons for eyes. However, under the perfect exterior, things are more sinister than they seem. I got the urge to re-watch this because it’s freaking October, and although I don’t watch horror movies, I felt obligated to watch something at least kind of Halloween-ish. And I stand by my long held opinion that this is the all time creepiest movie marketed for children ever made. Literally everything about this movie is creepy. There’s creepy music, creepy dolls being made and following people around, creepy cats, creepy people with buttons for eyes, creepy ghosts of children, creepy children with their mouths shown shut...the list is endless. And Laika never fails to make beautifully animated stop motion. 9/10

Sierra Burgess is a Loser: The latest film in Netflix’s attempt to dominate the rom-com genre, in which an unpopular high school girl ends up texting a handsome jock while leading him to believe he is texting a gorgeous cheerleader named Veronica who also goes to her school.

Okay, this isn’t a bad movie, so let me start with the good. I appreciate the message of how you need to make yourself stand out to colleges and how high school in general is becoming a toxic competitive environment. There’s a lot of good material about living up to expectations and stereotypes, both from Sierra’s side and her partner in crime Veronica’s. And speaking of Veronica, I was completely blindsided by how much of a great character she was and how much she grew throughout the film. I also liked Sierra’s best friend and the love interest, even if they were a little generic.

That being said...I didn’t like Sierra. When main characters intentionally lead people on for no good reason (and thinking some guy you’ve just met isn’t going to text you back because you’re not “conventionally attractive” is not a good reason) it annoys the hell out of me. Not only does she lie through texting him, but she and Veronica lie to his face multiple times. She also does something really horrible to Veronica because of a misunderstanding that could have been avoided if she taken five seconds to use some common sense. She also thinks she’s above doing a simple homework assignment for her poetry class because she wants to be different. I realize she needs to stand out in order to get recommendations for college, but come on. And finally, when she’s upset about how she looks, she blames her parents because her mom is attractive??? Yes it is frustrating to have these brilliant “conventionally attractive” parents, but they always try to build her up, as opposed to Veronica’s mother who only tears her down. I DID NOT HATE HER CHARACTER, but I think she could have been portrayed better. The other major thing that bothered me is that there is the complete lack of proper conflict resolution. All the problems and hurt feelings just magically go away in order to have a happy ending. Overall, the movie’s just okay. 7/10

Howl’s Moving Castle: Sophie, an ordinary girl who gets cursed by a witch, turns into an old woman and ends up working for a wizard who steals hearts. It feels like Studio Ghibli’s version of beauty and the beast, except Howl is the beauty with a questionable personality, and Sophie is the “beast” who whips him into shape...until the second half of the movie anyway. I’d prefer to watch an entire movie of old woman Sophie interacting with the other characters rather than deal with the war aspect of the plot. Anyway, the animation is awesome, and I appreciate the English voice cast...except for the fact that no one had the good sense to use Crispin Freeman as Howl instead of just having him as Turnip-Head! I know lots of people have talked about the differences between the book and the movie, but I like how the movie portrays that even though being old is physically painful, it can also be emotionally freeing. Either way I think Sophie is a great character with a fun sense of humor! 8/10

First Man: The story of Neil Armstrong and the years leading up to the moon landing...which apparently a lot of people didn’t like? Some people are butthurt about there not being a shot of planting the flag (which if they actually saw the movie they would know the focus of the scenes on the moon were to show Armstrong dealing with wonder and grief, NOT rallying together as Americans). Some people are unhappy that an American hero can be portrayed so negatively, and some people just thought it was boring and dragged a lot…

Okay, yes, the movie is a drama that does not portray Armstrong in a glowing light, and yes there are certain scenes that go on too long. BUT I really liked this movie...and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like Ryan Gosling. It is a family drama that captures how different people respond to grief and stress set in the backdrop of the space race. I also liked learning about this period in history and the controversy around the space program in general. It was beautifully shot and had very creative music choices, which was the main reason I saw it in theaters. I came away from it awed and terrified that we basically sent these people to the moon in freaking tin cans, and that in the sixties men shunned their emotions so much that they wouldn’t hug their children before going to space! Overall, it was good in a solid way, but it did drag a bit. 7.5/10

Mama Mia: Another protagonist named Sophie is getting married and invites the three men who could each possibly be her father to the wedding. But who cares about the plot, the main purpose of the film is to show women having fun with their friends! This movie...isn’t exactly good, but it 100% knows what it wants to be and accomplishes that. It’s a wacky, ridiculous, musical romp that people only watch with their friends when they’re plastered because they want to hear ABBA songs. It’s the very definition of a guilty pleasure movie, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I will say that it’s harder for me to relate to because I don’t have friends that I act this ridiculous with, and sometimes it gets to be a bit much. Although, I have seen the Broadway musical and remember absolutely loving every minute of it...so maybe it’s just the movie overplaying it. Oh well, it’s just something fun to have on in the background or watch when you need cheering up! It’s a 9/10 for being accomplishing what it wants and a 6/10 as an actual movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: In this Marvel filler episode between Infinity War and Captain Marvel, Scott is under house arrest and Hope tries to get her mother out of the quantum realm. Okay, this was a fun movie with some great moments, but it definitely had its issues. For a movie called Ant-Man and the Wasp, the two did not do much fighting together...or at all until the end. It felt more like an origin to their partnership than a team up movie (and I’d rather have a Wasp and Black Widow team up movie...or all the Marvel women team up movie). It also couldn’t figure out who the villain should be. It’s like they realized half way through writing it that Ghost was way too sympathetic and cool and had to come up with a bunch of more forgettable villains. And because this was more of a hot potato rather than a heist, I didn’t think it was as fun as the first movie overall. HOWEVER I still really enjoyed the inventive action and the characters. I will always watch 2 hours of Evangeline Lilly kicking ass, and Paul Rudd being himself. And I am convinced that Marvel is using The Adventure Zone route of needing competent women to solve everyone’s problems. But the heart of the movie is really family. Hank and Hope, Scott and his daughter, and even Ghost all had very compelling stories that drew me in every time. And that post credits scene...I knew it was coming, but come on! Marvel is the only current studio who can basically do a horror movie “The End…?” in their credits now. 7.5/10

The Chronicles of Narnia-The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe: The Disney version of the classic C.S. Lewis book; come on we all know the story. Okay, I watched this for the first time in several years because I also read the book this month. And holy cow, when you see what material the movie had to work with, this is a freaking masterpiece. It takes a very simple children’s book and turns it into an epic fantasy! The score, the little details, and the setting are all perfect. All the characters are so real and fleshed out AND ACCURATELY PORTRAYED FOR THEIR AGES! All four siblings are struggling with something, and the actors do a great job considering they were actual children while making this! I am so angry that Disney let this property’s potential slip through their fingers because I truly believe that if they kept making movies like this, it could have been their Harry Potter by now. Prince Caspian was also excellent, though I don’t remember much of Dawn Treader, but I think if they put the money and effort into continuing this franchise it could have been great.

One thing I don’t appreciate about the movie is how they reduce Edmund’s mental journey. I have always especially loved Edmund as a character, and something the movie fails to mention is the fact that APPARENTLY in the book the Turkish Delight is enchanted to make whoever eats it think only of eating more and more until THEY EAT SO MUCH THAT THEY DIE?! He’s not just a greedy kid. And there’s a lot more to his time with the Witch that makes his actions easier to understand. Anyway it definitely goes down as one of the best book to movie adaptations I’ve ever seen, and it is on my very short list of movies that are better than the books. 10/10

Books!

The Chronicles of Narnia- The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis: It’s the first Narnia book; we all know the plot. I am one of the many people who had this series read to them as a kid, but it’s been like...eleven years since I actually read these books for myself. Even then I only got to The Horse and His Boy before stopping because it was boring as hell. I’ve been wanting to re-read the series all year, and with only the Disney movies in recent memory, imagine my surprise when I found out that Lewis’s writing style is absolutely bananas! I think he’s acting as some omniscient narrator, but his style is so stream of consciousness it’s hilarious! He constantly addresses the audience in these 2007 fanfiction author-esque asides. The Pevensies are the most posh, old-timey sounding British kids ever, and it’s amazing to visualize children that actually speak like this. Everything happens so quickly because it is 100% meant to be a children’s story, not this epic adventure we all associate with the movies. So...if you’ve never read it before definitely check it out just to discover how utterly wild everything is. My only real complaint is that it’s kinda sexist, and no one except for Edmund gets a character arc. Even though Susan gets a bow and Lucy gets a dagger, they’re treated like they shouldn’t be fighting because they’re girls and not...oh I don’t know...because they’re children! 7/10

The Ladies Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzie Lee: The second installment of...idk...the “Guide” series? I talked about the first book, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue in my May Media Madness, and this book is just as good! This series takes place in the 1700s, and while the first book follows arrogant bisexual disaster Monty, his (boy)friend Percy, and his sister Felicity through a romp across Europe, this book follows Felicity and her friends on a...let’s just say “scientific expedition” involving pirates. The less you know about the plot going in the better. And did I mention her friends include a badass Muslim pirate princess and an Elle Woods-esque dog loving naturalist? And also did I mention Felicity is CANONICALLY revealed as ARO/ACE?! It’s strongly hinted at in the first book, and in this book Mackenzi Lee basically shoves any doubt about it out the window. It’s fun, hilarious, and also heartbreaking at the same because of all the challenges each character faces because they’re ambitious women in this time period. Sometimes it feels a little heavy handed in its feminist messages, but you can’t deny it’s not accurate. I’m really only saying that because I am a woman, and the struggles are nothing I haven’t seen or read before. Anyway, this is a fantastic series that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun read, and it gets bonus points for including Monty and Percy being disgustingly in love together! 1000/10

Dear Evan Hansen the Novel by Val Emmich (and also Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul):

Buckle up.

I really love the Dear Evan Hansen musical (which I talked about in my August Media Madness.) The novel is almost a word for word adaptation of the musical, in which Evan, a teenager with anxiety, writes a letter to himself that is stolen by a boy who commits suicide, leading everyone to believe Evan and the boy, Connor, were best friends because they assume Connor wrote the letter to Evan. There is a lot I could say about this adaptation, but the number one thing is: I really don’t know if people who haven’t seen the musical or heard the soundtrack will like it as much. The strength of Dear Evan Hansen is mainly in its performances and its music, and while they tried to work the music in as best they could, I enjoyed the story more because I can link it back to the actors’ performances. Yes, the story is interesting and the message is important, but I honestly don’t know how much people going in blind will like the writing and how the characters are portrayed. Overall, it seemed like a well written fanfic- in a good way, not a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child way. That being said, I did really enjoy a lot of things about this book. They expanded on a lot about Evan’s relationship with his absent father and the aftermath of the big lie. They also expanded on a lot about Connor…

I honestly don’t know how I feel about Ghost Connor. Yes, I’m glad Connor shows up as a ghost in the book. What he doesn’t do is ACTUALLY INTERACT WITH EVAN...LIKE AT ALL! The best parts of the show are when Connor, as a figment of Evan’s imagination acts as a comedic buffer and his “moral center.” However, here ghost Connor exists to give snippets of Connor’s life. He barely comments on what Evan is doing at all even though he sees everything. All of Connor’s sections made me feel like the author was going through the DEH tag on AO3 and picking things to throw in. I liked his sections, but the writers really missed the more entertaining story of having Connor actually commenting about the shit Evan is doing.

So overall, I’d say watch the musical if you can find a bootleg, or at least listen to the soundtrack and then read the book. It was very enjoyable, although I think the ending dragged a bit in its quest to give more closure than the musical. 8.5/10

Bonus Manga

Shimanami Tasogare: Tasuku Kaname, a closeted boy starting his first year of high school meets a mysterious woman named Anonymous who helps him finds solace in a lounge run by other members of the LGBT+ community. This is the kind of manga that really hits and misses for me. It does a great job at portraying the struggles of a community with different sexualities and gender identities, and it has some really great characters and beautiful moments that I really think would be even better animated. But there are some character arcs that I feel are really...incomplete. It feels like the author was rushed into finishing the manga and did the best they could, but certain characters come off as major hypocrites or suddenly act like their arcs never happened. I also appreciate having an asexual character play such a big role, but the chapter where she talks about her identity as a person is just kind of...bizarre. Not to mention I barely understood what was happening for the first couple chapters because everything Anonymous says is so vague. There’s a lot I could say about this manga, but really I think it’s something everyone should read for themselves (and you’ll definitely need your tissue boxes). 8/10

TV Shows!

Arrested Development: “The story of a wealthy family who lost everything and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together.” Aka Ron Howard narrates the shenanigans of the worst people you’ll ever see. Yes, I finally got around to watching this, and yes the first three seasons are hilarious. It’s got the same beats as a soap opera (twins, adoption, losing limbs in seal attacks), but in a sitcom format it’s genius. The fourth and fifth (or at least what there is of the fifth) are just nothing special in my opinion. I thought the fourth season was structured terribly, and once the family starts getting into politics the show tries to be a form of satire that just doesn’t work for it. Plus I live with a family of Trump supporters; so it’s not as funny when you have to live with the racist people the show is making fun of who take all the “wall” stuff seriously. 8/10

Documental: A Japanese...social experiment/documentary/game show type thing on Amazon Prime wherein 10 comedians all get locked in a room together and attempt to make each other laugh without laughing themselves. The twist is each of them contribute 1 million yen to play, and the winner gets the pot of 10 million yen. In the first season, the show is more interesting as a social experiment than it is funny. You’ll like it if you like Japanese comedy. But the thing about Japanese comedy is...well, just picture an episode of Osomatsu-san, with all the disgusting and bizarre shit they do, and then picture real people. Though I do love seeing the faces everyone makes when they’re trying not to laugh! HOWEVER, the second season is so much better. I was laughing so much every episode that it hardly felt like the same show. They also changed the format a little so there would definitely be a winner at the end of the time. There’s still gross weird shit, but it’s a much better season. I give season 1 a 6/10 and season 2 an 8.5/10

Over the Garden Wall: In case you’ve been skipping the entire season of autumn since 2014, OTGW is a 10 episode miniseries that aired on Cartoon Network detailing the journey of two brothers Wirt and Greg who are lost in a mysterious wood called “The Unknown.” But really the whole thing is like a stuck in Purgatory story. It’s one of those shows that goes from adorable and funny to dark as fuck real quick. I think it’s impossible to go through the fall season without watching this at least once. This is another one of those things where there’s nothing I can say about it that hasn’t already been said. The atmosphere is perfect for Halloween, the characters are great (Elijah Wood voices Wirt, and it’s the best), and there are so many hidden clues that after it aired we all demanded a Gravity Falls crossover…

I could go on. This show is perfect except for the unnecessarily silly school teacher episode...and fact that it goes by too fast...and also the fact that now I know Elijah Wood has an adorable singing voice, and I’m salty that he didn’t really sing in Lord of the Rings. This is the atmospheric “watch it once a year” type of show that we desperately need more of...it doesn’t have to be the same characters or even have the same messages, but dang it Cartoon Network you can’t just give us this masterpiece and walk away!!! 10/10

Yuri On Ice: Yes, the figure skating anime. This is Tumblr so I doubt I need to post the summary of the show, but I do talk about it in my Hufflepuff Anime recommendations post. Since I couldn’t watch the Yuri On Ice marathon (which was coincidentally held on my birthday!) I decided to have my own dang marathon. There’s just so much to love about this anime: the music, the animation, the characters, the diversity, the humor, and the accuracy to the sport. But I think the main reason I love this show so much is because, as someone who watches a lot of sports anime, I really appreciate this show doing something different and focusing on ADULTS WHO ACTUALLY RELY ON THE SPORT AS A CAREER and using drama that way instead of the main source of angst being “we have to win the match for our senpai!” This is one of those shows you can watch a million times and still find new things to love! 10/10

Podcasts!

I don’t know why I made a separate section for this, since I only listened to one.

Hey Riddle Riddle: A podcast with three hosts that go talk about riddles and puzzles (aka puzzies and riddies) and role play various ridiculous answers to them. I started listening to it because Justin McElroy was on an episode, and it was pretty funny. The podcast is interesting and entertaining, except for the fact that sometimes their role playing and improve can go on for too long, and they don’t know when to let a joke die. Also one of the co-hosts is really annoying, but the other two make up for it. 8/10

Honorable Mentions

Camp Camp released a Halloween episode called Arrival of the Torso Takers and I watched it...probably four times...I don’t have a problem.

Some shows I watch on actual television came back this fall! Bob’s Burgers, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Fresh Off the Boat, Speechless, Modern Family (yes I still watch that), and The Good Place!

I don’t know if this was a leak or what, but there’s a new My Little Pony christmas Hearthswarming special, and guys...I thought it was pretty great. Say what you want about this show, but it knows how to do holiday episodes. Anyone who has been a fan for a long time or even fans who have fallen off the show will probably love it. It’s very sweet and never went in the direction I thought it would.

And last but not least, shout out to all the anime coming out this fall...there’s just...so much to watch...please help...

Happy Valentine’s Day! …So the old version of this had some issues? So I fixed it? I guess this is sort of angsty at the end but is generally pretty fluffy.

Title is from Hozier’s Work Song.

It was late, so late that you could feel your eyelids fluttering shut as your elbow dug into your calculus homework, crumpling the sheet beyond comprehension. You would normally be asleep by now, but the need to finally finish all of your work had ensured that you had stayed up for several more hours than usual, and this extra time awake was definitely playing on your body. You hadn’t been this tired since… well ever. It was overwhelming really, head feeling heavier and heavier with every second until you jolted yourself back awake. The need to sleep combating with the need to finish ensured that you had been reading and rereading the same question for at least half an hour. The sound of knocking against the window was what finally drew you back to reality, head turning quickly to see the domino mask clad face of your best friend behind the glass, dark hair merging into the pitch black of the night sky behind him.

Jason had shown up at Gotham Academy two years ago, after being taken in by Bruce Wayne, which had created a small amount of levity for you. Before Jason, you had been the New Kid at school- the new kid who wasn’t as rich as the rest. You were only at Gotham Academy because your grandmother had died, and in her will had left a fair amount of money to be spent on your education. That had been a bad idea. The other kids had treated you like shit for months until Jason showed up, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for him despite your relief. No matter how shitty the other kids had been to you- and how much you had wanted them to stop treating you poorly- you didn’t want someone else to take your place as their new target, rather them to just lose interest and leave you alone. Your English Teacher had brought him forward on the first day, telling him to say somethings about himself but all that you were able to do was pay attention to how he looked. He was smaller than most of the kids in your class (something you had later found out was from malnutrition), with wide blue eyes which easily turned to catlike slits when he was angry- which seemed to be often, and messy curls of soot-coloured hair. He was cute, in a sort of sad way. You found out later from the whispers of some of the other kids that Jason had been taken in by Bruce Wayne, that he was from the Narrows- not that they described it like that. Street Rat was their usual terminology, and it made you hate them all the more. That was probably why, a few days later, when a kid called him a charity case in the middle of the cafeteria, you had decided that the only means of stopping the bullying once and for all was to punch the Bully in the face.

The bullying subsided for both of you after that, and in its place you had gained Jason’s friendship, something that seemed somewhat impossible to anyone else. With Jason’s friendship came a fierce sort of protection, he had seemingly decided to become your own personal guard dog, protecting you as much as he possibly could. You notice the bruises after a few weeks, blooming on his legs and arms as if they had come from fights, the split and bruised knuckles such an often-seen part of his appearance that you became confused when they weren’t present. They make your mind race through all the possibilities on the planet; that the bruises are from falling, the split knuckles from some sort of secret fight club, because the alternative is too horrible for you to think about. The truth came out after a year when he finally confessed to you that he was Batman’s sidekick, not that you believed it at first. You only knew it was true when he came to your window later that night in uniform and grinned at you, face lit up and eyes shining mischievously in a way that just screamed ‘I told you so.’ It made his protective nature make sense, but also meant that the bruises that littered his arms and legs were was less worrying than you had previously thought. He happily shows you his mask while hidden away in the confines of your bedroom while he ‘showed you his moves’- which actually means that he showed off some sort of confused air karate before saying he couldn’t show his ‘real moves’ because they’d scare you off. You had laugh at that and flop onto the bed, his mask between the thumb and forefinger of each hand. Robin. Jason. It seemed almost absurd.

Now, he leans against the window frame as you pushed the glass upwards to allow him into the room, his lips turned up in a small, sad sort of smile as he climbs in. He’s taller now, finally taller than you, and broader too. The sadness is newer though, made even clearer as he peels the mask off of his face and stomps over to your bed (something that would have been comical with his scaled shorts and pixie boots if it wasn’t for how upset he seems). You reach out almost subconsciously and pull him into a gentle hug, his body rigid as your arms wind around his frame; he feels safe and warm even in his ridiculous costume, and your eyes slowly slip shut until you feel something warm and wet hit your cheek. Your [E/C] eyes look up and see the tears dripping down his cheeks.

“…Jase?” Your voice is soft, to try and avoid the risk of your parents hearing you talking and coming in, but as your eyes glance at the red neon numbers on the digital alarm clock you decide it’s too late for your parents to be awake.

“Bat benched me.” He says softly and slides down onto the bed. “He benched me. I…”

“Oh Jay…” You whisper and hold his cheek softly. Him crying isn’t exactly new, Jason cries whenever he’s angry or excited- you can’t help but think that he must feel things so strongly that it’s overwhelming for him, and that’s why it’s never stopped making your heart clench. Sitting beside him, cheek cupped in your hand seems a good way to calm him, so you gently wipe the heavy flow of tears away. “He… it isn’t permanent right? I mean, you’re still Robin.” You whisper to try and calm him down, but his thin fingers wrap around your wrist. His grip is tight, even in spite of his green gloves, and it makes you flinch slightly from the unexpected display of strength.

“…Doesn’t matter. Cause I’m not stickin’ around.” His voice is louder than before, more conspiratorial as he leans in to you, the corner of his mouth turned up in what is either a small smirk or as a means of keeping from crying any further.

“What do you mean, not sticking around?” You ask worriedly, your thumbs stilling from wiping his cheeks. That could mean anything, but you found yourself silently praying that it didn’t mean that he was running away or anything stupid like that.

“…My mom, I’m gonna go find my mom.” You turn your head in absolute confusion, lip caught between your teeth.

“I thought you said she was-”

“Dead? That’s what I thought, but she wasn’t my mom.” He says, voice caught somewhere between feverish and overjoyed. “I’m going to find my real mom. She’s in Ethiopia, so I’m gonna go find her.”

You know it’s selfish, but your jaw tightens and your hand shifts away from his face, almost angry that he would leave you, but his tight grip on your arm doesn’t stop or even loosen. You don’t want him to leave, and it’s cruel and selfish and harsh, so you swallow down that negative feeling and force a smile. His mom. How could you be so cruel as to tell him not to try and find his mother, just do you can have him around? So you don’t, choosing instead to nod and tilt your head.

“That’s… fantastic, Jay. You need to find her.” His mom. Of course, he’d leave to find his Mom, even if it meant travelling all that way, but your heart still throbs painfully. You smile and gnaw at the soft flesh of your lip, too busy focusing on trying to keep positive that you don’t notice how Jason’s eyes flit down to your lips and how he moves closer to you, don’t notice how his hand slides up from your wrist to your upper arm until he pulls you into a kiss.

It’s awkward, mainly because you hadn’t been expecting it in anyway shape or form. Kissing had never been something you spent much time thinking about other than in the confines of in romantic movies and classical literature; kissing was always for girls who look like Molly Ringwald to you, or boys like Paul Rudd in Clueless, or for heroines like Elizabeth Bennett or Emma Woodhouse, not for you. But here you are, sat on your bed in a t-shirt and pyjama shorts with your best friend, clad in his crime-fighting get up, kissing you like he thinks it’s his only chance to do so. His lips are cold and wind-chapped, moving slowly against your own, and working your lip free from the tight grip of your teeth. You finally respond after a minute or two, just before Jason could pull away, lips pressing back against his own which made him grin against you, free hand sliding up into your hair. It’s clumsy, but its soft and sweet and so very Jason that you can’t help but think that it’s the perfect first kiss. Equal parts romantic and soft to awkward and unaware. It’s not like the kisses from the movies you like or the the novels you read, or even anything like the kisses you had seen from public displays of affection that normally had your eyes rolling. It’s gentle in ways you aren’t used to. He pulls back to smile at you before brushing his lips against yours once more before you tug him back into another kiss, almost unwilling to let him go because you know if he stops kissing you he’ll leave.

After a few more minutes Jason breaks the kiss with a breathless smile, kisses your forehead and smiles. “I’m coming back for you, Okay? I promise. I’ll be back.” He kisses you chastely- little more than the smallest press of chapped lips against yours- but stops before you’re able to return it, then stands up and walks towards the window. “I’ll be back. You won’t even have enough time to miss me, and when I’m back, I’ll take you to Pauli’s for a date.” He smiles softly and gives you enough time to smile and nod excitedly. You watch as gets closer before your fingers close around the thin chain of the necklace that your grandmother had bought you before she died.

“Jase!” You call after him before he’s able to get his leg over the window-frame, rushing to him. Undoing the clasp, you gently pull it off then grab his wrist and force the fabric of his glove down, you slowly wind the dainty chain around his wrist and smile, tugging the glove back up.

“I can’t-” He starts but you cut him off with a soft kiss.

“Give it back when you come home, yeah? Now you have to.” You hope that you don’t sound too desperate, and from the way that he smiles back at you, it’s safe to assume you don’t. He climbs away, and you sigh softly, leaning against the window ledge as he disappears into the night. You eventually stop staring off into the darkness to try and get some sleep, walking back to the bed and lay back. But now sleep refuses to come, so you let yourself drift off into a fantasy of the oncoming date; how much fun that date will be, what you should wear, how long you think you’ll have to wait for him to come home. You fall asleep with that on your mind, eyes slipping shut with your lips turned up in a peaceful smile.

But he never comes home.

Summer Film Preview: 27 of the Most Anticipated Movies of the Season!

Among ET's 90 top picks for summer are our 27 most anticipated films of the season.

Every summer, there is no shortage of new films to blow audiences away at theaters -- and blow away records at the box office. This summer, things are looking especially massive. Blockbuster season kicks off in a huge way with the highly anticipated back-to-back releases of Deadpool 2and Solo: A Star Wars Story, ushering in an onslaught of franchise films with new installments of Jurassic World, Marvel's Ant-Man, Mission: Impossible and The Purge.

Not everything is a sequel, though. Of the originals is the eagerly awaited adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, marking the first time a major studio has produced an all-Asian-led film since The Joy Luck Club; Spike Lee's latest, BlacKkKlansman; and -- because it wouldn't be summer without one -- a shark attack flick, The Meg, starring Jason Statham.

But no matter what you’re looking forward to, there's plenty to choose from among these 27 sure-to-be hit films.

Deadpool 2 (Out Now)

The Deadpool sequel is bigger, louder and packed with more violence and superpeople, dick jokes and fourth wall-breaking meta-ness than the original X-Men-adjacent movie. And while that all sounds like a recipe for a bloated case of sequelitis, Ryan Reynolds and co. not only pull it off, but top the first.

(If you do some simple math, it seems Anne Hathaway's mark is one of the eight, too.) Unfortunately, Rihanna will likely not be dressed as a sexy pope.

Sprinkle in a queer romance and an earworm-y soundtrack, and what more could you ask for?

The First Purge (July 4)

Also, Michelle Pfeiffer plays a superhero!

I've never seen anything like this, a satiric tale about a telemarketer who uses his "white voice" to get ahead that feels at once painstakingly plotted and completely free-associated.

Whitney (July 6)

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)

Is Meryl Streep's character still alive for the Mamma Mia! sequel? Supposedly. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)

Still, Tom Cruise continues to up the ante in insane and preposterous ways, like jumping out of a plane at 25,000 feet, for one.

I would pay money to watch Kate McKinnon read the phone book. Thankfully, she gets much more to do in this action-comedy, in which Mila Kunis plays the unwitting woman dumped by a spy. McKinnon plays her bestie, and the two quickly find themselves in over their heads trying to stop a terrorist group and save the world.

Hijinks ensue. This is also the first Hollywood movie with a majority Asian cast in 25 years, i.e., crazy overdue.

You don't need to head to the cinema to swoon over this one; it's streaming on Netflix.

The Happytime Murders (Aug. 17)
