Ask me about my not-yet-written-fics from this list
thanks, @eowyn7023 also tagging: @polutrope because you sent me an ask about this a while ago and I just haven't had the spoons to respond until now, sorry! <3
Elrond in Valinor + Second Flight of the Noldor
so this stems from three possibly spicy Opinions I have about LOTR: 1) The Valar kind of suck, actually, and it was wrong of them to bring Elves to Valinor in the first place and it went directly against Eru's plan. 2) Valinor is kind of liminal and bad for you if you were born in Middle Earth 3) Elrond sailing (and staying) in Valinor is makes very little sense for him as a character, and is more about Jirt's wish fulfillment than it is good writing.
Obviously, unfortunately, due to the narrative, Elrond must sail at the end of LOTR. He needs to recuperate from the absolute havoc Vilya wreaked on his system, and he also needs to reunite with Cel and get some closure about a few things, like Celebrimbor's death, Gil-Galad's death, and his relationship with Elwing.
So Elrond sails, as he does. He reunites with Celebrian. He spends some time meeting his various family members and spends quite a lot of time with Gil-Galad and Celebrimbor. He has exactly one (1) talk with Elwing to ask her some questions and explain what became of Elros, but in my head he is not really interested in pursuing much of a relationship with her. Elwing respects that.
He and Celebrian work on healing their relationship and re-establishing intimacy.
Elrond slowly recovers from the damage Vilya did to him.
He might need to spend some time in Lorien actually. He is very good friends with Este and Nienna.
After a while though, things just don't feel right. Valinor feels very static and strange to him, and he doesn't really feel like he Fits. And that hurts because everyone is so glad to have him there and they expect that he's just as glad to be here as they are.
Also he really misses his kids, and wonders about his grandkids, and the Dunedain.
Eventually he starts connecting with more and more people who feel like they don't Fit. Mostly Noldor and the few Sindar that sailed. Many of them are still dealing with PTSD from Middle Earth and Beleriand, or with scars that refuse to heal. Many of them are just Restless. Most Vanyar do not understand this, and it's hard to talk about.
He and Cel begin work on a second Rivendell, and this keeps them both busy for a short time. He still doesn't feel Right though.
Eventually he starts experiencing like a reverse sea-longing and it gets more, and more, and more painful.
Finally, he talks it over with Celebrian. And they petition the Valar, who are not very happy to be petitioned. And then Elrond starts preparing to sail East.
Listen listen listen. Everything that Elrond has ever built, worked for, or loved is back in Middle Earth. It makes zero sense for him to be happy in Valinor. He aligns overwhelmingly with the Sindar and with the Dunedain in the books, and the Dunedain also consider him as one of them. Rivendell is there (he left it in the care of the Dunedain). Arwen and Aragorn are there. Gondor, and what is left of Elros are there. His grandchildren are there. Elladan and Elrohir are still there. The people left for him in Valinor are all people he has already mourned and found closure with.
He's not really made for Valinor anyway. He's made to watch over Middle Earth, to keep its lore and secrets, and to caretake Elros' line. He made a vow, once, and sure Aragorn and his descendants are doing just fine but he still feels half-whole without them.
And he's not the only person who doesn't feel Right in Valinor, who miss the mold and the rot and the fungi and the sheer diversity of life, and the Men!!! The humans!!! The normalcy of pain and suffering and scars and disabilities!
And so Elrond sails with Celebrian, and many of the Noldor say 'fuck it' and they go with him. They're tired and restless and have misgivings about the Valar anyway. A remnant returns to Middle Earth, and this time they go for love.
Elrond retakes his seat in Rivendell and the Dunedain rejoice that the eldest of their race, their most beloved uncle has come home. Celebrian reunites with Arwen, and meets a long line of adopted children that she never got to see, and meets Aragorn and her grandchildren.
They live through the ages, quietly doing what they have always done: living as watchers and caretakers, carefully preserving memories and lore and history.
Rivendell becomes a place that is both mythologized and startlingly real, where it is rumored that anyone who needs it will find help and sanctuary.
Many of the Noldor live in Rivendell, but some set up their own small kingdoms or simply live alongside the men and dwarves. They're finally there to guide and watch over the Secondborn, just as was intended in the Theme.
Eventually, of course, Elrond must grieve Arwen and Aragorn, but he's there for his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren, and his great grandchildren, and all of his family thereafter -- and in Arwen and Aragorn and their line, it almost feels like he is reunited with Elros again.
Elrond is there to help.

So (my au) legolas has big-ish family, right?
Like, obviously it’s not as big as it could be because it’s only 3 generations, as opposed to most elven families who have dozens of generations by the end of the 3rd age.
Anyways,
Legolas has 3 older siblings, his dad, and his grandma, who are all still alive and kicking in middle earth during the third age, but the only times they’re together is in greenwood. They are pretty much never in each other’s facinity outside of their forest, so while other beings and elves are subconsciously aware that legolas has a family, they’ve never met any of them, or realized that the ones they have met are 1 of legolas’s family members.
Literally the only reason any of the other elves realized legolas was thranduil’s son in the first place, despite having met him many times before, is because thranduil was like:
Thranduil: fuck. I have a meeting with the other elven leaders scheduled next week as an update meeting. I really don’t want to deal with it.
Legolas, the only one of his siblings currently in the palace: *minding his own business*
Thranduil: *yoinks legolas* fuck it, according to the noldor, in case the king can’t make it, the king’s kids can represent them.
Legolas, the poor unfortunate soul: *screeches as he’s unceremoniously grabbed and all but shoved in the direction of the meeting place*
Later:
Elrond: *confused why this elf is here and not the silvan king* legolas? Why are you here?
Legolas, a spitefull petty bitch: i am here to represent my father king Thranduil, as he is unavailable due to mourning his wife, who was killed in an attack several weeks ago.
Later:
Trans Thranduil, whose kids are all products of flings and has never had a wife, receiving condolence letters from other elven leaders: legolas, you little shit-
Lasgen, Lirion, and Kleoyia when they heard what legolas pulled: *cackles* *dying of laughter*

Flying Buckets
Tumblr media
“The White Council has spoken…” Thranduil growled out, having been reading the letter that brought him here weeks ago to talk sense into his oldest friends and get aid to move upon his lost peak within the Southern half of his forest. Glorfindel seated along the wall flinched as he did to the pained squeak and thud in response to his hard kick of a bucket through the window opening on the far wall of his suite.
“Always, the face….” A muffled and defeated voice had the pair spring up to race outside and find a petite woman plopped ungracefully on her side clutching her face to a angered flop of her foot down into the tall grass she was weighing down.
“Madam,” the Elf King felt himself sighing in a hard drop to a knee at her side. Blood clear as day from the now broken nose that hindered the already frustrated Dwarf Company of Thorin Oakenshield who were dead set on waiting until their most injury riddled member was right as rain for the continuation of their journey. Of course that was after an internal investigation on where the Princes were at during that time to ensure like a mishap with the ponies the first week had not been behind another bloody nose and facial bruise for her they were glad to be cleared of. Elrond was shouted for and the King himself carried her to aid without care of the stains to his outer robes terrifying so many in his pacing path outside the Healers Wing.
“You owe me,” was mouthed by her to the Elf King who was not blamed by the Company who would have ammunition enough already to despise him for all eternity off past grievances and grudges. The same Elf King who in his entrapped state offered a deal of his own, together they would call for aid from Dain to rid his Southern Woodlands of the Necromancer and then he would gladly aid in march upon the mountain, where they could surely work his lost gems once the arkenstone was recovered into a new trade deal to rekindle the relationship between their kingdoms.
Quietly as she stole a moment to the side of the grand hall being prepped for the coronation in a few weeks time the one to whom the King owed a debt felt his statuesque silent figure come up on her left. Silent as ever with more grace than she could dream to scoff at beside her now sling donning self thanks to another thankfully face bruise free incident one of Dain’s men unintentionally set off. “I believe we have yet to discuss terms of my debt to you.”
Up at him with brilliantly clear eyes she peered at him for another stunning glimpse of the face he’d sooner ache to coat with kisses and murmured sentiments of adoration than ever bring a single speck of a bruise to. “I want one of those head things,” that had his brow tick upwards to the circle of her good hand drawing a sloppy loop around her head. “Like Arwen and Elrond wear,” that gained a nod from him and she added peering back at the hall making his heart sink lower to her words than it ever had when he’d unfortunately caused her harm. “Everyone else has a title, some relation to the King and they all have some fancy bits and bobs they bring up to be wearing at the coronation. I get to go, but family sits with family and, I’m not family.” Up at him she looked after patting her bunched sleeve to her cheek forcing a grin onto her pinkened face, with eyes still glimmering with hint of tears in them. “If you have to you could say I cried and made you feel bad.”
“That is a poor repayment.” An answer that had her look away mid nod in the rejection riddled tone to the answer she assumed to be given so she would not actually become a sobbing mess and actually stir up some real trouble for the Elf King. An uncommon gesture of comfort of a hand on her shoulder blade halted a swivel of her head to search for a quick escape linked to ample hiding places until she would calm down. “The adornment is customary for such an event, consider it granted however many styles you deem to ask for.” Sloppily she sniffled and raised her hand and bunched up sleeve again to hover in front of the lower half of her face and cheeks as best as she could. “For now consider a much more proper form of repayment and do excuse me. On the subject of your seating arrangement, I have to speak to Lord Celeborn on terms of adopting you into his kin.”
“What?!” She squeaked out, turning to find he was gone somehow and was bent on greatly improving the station upon which would grant him a much closer distance to your seat than he could imagine possible at the moment for a Western wilds familiar Ranger.

Okay, you must tell us about αβΩ au
I'm going to call it an atypical alpha/beta/omega take on what Middle-earth could be like if the Valar didn't bring the elves to Valinor/the elves refused to go. This all came about when someone did some art of Glorfindel, Erestor, and Elrond and mentioned that it was for an a/b/o au with minimal explanation. Of course, I and @nighttimepatrons went a little crazy over it.
What I've actually written so far is mostly focused on Celebrian, Gil-galad, and Elrond, who are all married and very happy. Celebrian is a princess of the Noldor and Sindar realms and travels gracefully from diplomatic meeting to minor crisis. Gil-galad is a merchant and low-level politician in Lindon working very hard to make sure he's never connected to the High Family (Finwe's family) because thoughts of somehow becoming king haunt his nightmares. Elrond's a healer raised by the nomadic Feanorians who has the unfortunate habit of complicating Gil-galad's life because the path to political upheaval is paved with good intentions (re: bringing Avari Glorfindel to Lindon and picture).
[breaking here because this is getting Long]
The core idea for the au is that Elrond went on an expedition with Pengolodh and others to document one of the few Avari tribes that's been untouched by the outside world since leaving Cuivienen, but the tribe lives within another realm that is very set on keeping them free of outside influences so the research group has to promise to not interact or let themselves be seen by anyone in the tribe. Well, as one might expect, this doesn't go as planned. A great beast of the wilds attacks the group but an Avari they'd been watching (Glorfindel) steps and saves them but is grievously wounded and will die unless they help him. Elrond, being Elrond, insists on doing what he can in the field and on smuggling him back to Lindon on one of Gil-galad's ships when it becomes clear the Avari will die without in-depth medical care.
Really, it's an excuse for me to yank Glorfindel out of his home and shove him into a new culture because I love him being an outsider among the Noldor. (I'm basic, what can I say?)
Nightie and I also think A Lot about Miriel/Indis/Finwe and Feanor :) (spoiler: Feanor gets mirked by some Men which inspires the first Manslaying)
Anyway, you might be wondering what any of this has to do with a/b/o. Well, in the 'modern realms' like the Noldor and Sindar, very little importance is put on if someone's an alpha (Celebrian), beta (Gil-galad), or omega (Elrond). Sure, sometimes someone could have hormonal things that make them act a bit different (re: Elrond's nesting habits), but it's no big deal. HOWEVER, the Avari tribe has Very Different feelings on the matter.
The tribe believes that an evil spirit or force causes elves to become alphas or omegas (they don't use those terms but whatever). There isn't much they can do if someone becomes an omega, but generally omegas can live a normal life but just lose control of their bodies sometimes. So, omegas can stay in the tribe but don't have much respect unless they dedicate themselves to healing and or soothsaying etc. Alphas, on the other hand, are considered violent and dangerous and are not allowed to stay with the tribe after reaching adulthood unless they go through a ritual to cast the evil spirit from them. This involves a moderate degree of mutilation and pain and is very unpleasant and sometimes people die during it.
Glorfindel's an alpha. He went through that ritual and is a very good warrior/hunter/protector for the tribe. He is very proud of his scars.
This makes things a bit awkward in Lindon, where everyone is horrified by this thing that he takes deep pride in.
Anyway, that's a lot and there's even more but I should probably stop (warm hug if you read all that).

Imagines for Elves Responses to a Reader Suffering Sensory Overload (from a person who suffers from sensory overload and overstimulation) p2
Tumblr media
Celeborn:
Personal headcanon is that since he and Galadriel run Lothlòrien together, that he tends to be in charge of the more militaristic and marchwarden side, while Galadriel is in charge of the political and statehood stuff (even though they obviously assist each other and discuss any good co-rulers and partners would do). And sorry, I just can’t see them as unmarried 😂I think they both - and together - take other lovers and maybe even occasionally a secondary partner for a time, but they’re the Lothlòrien power couple baby. Also like Celeborn (like Elrond and Thranduil) just have peak Dad energy.
Just imagine being out on patrol with the other graduating Marchwardens of the Galadhrim and being out for your final run before the bestowing before the whole of Lothlòrien. It was never meant to easy necessarily, but this last finessing of training with Celeborn at the lead rather than Haldir or another Marchwarden was meant to be more formality than anything else. Unfortunately, your patrol had run into over a dozen orc packs, several with wargs, had to deal with a dispute in one of the more far-reaching settlements, came across a caravan of dwarves and humans attempting to breach the barrier, and more than one person in your troop was was injured. Luckily, everyone’s healing skills had dramatically increased. Unluckily, you were all tired, dirty, and sore and still over a week away from Caras.
You just wanted some fucking peace and quiet but the new human settlement nearby had other ideas. Winter was fast approaching and in their misguided effort to build settlement in time (they couldn’t, it was too late in the season) they were sawing and felling trees long into the night. The forest stank of tree death and rot and sounds grated in your brain. You ground your teeth and clenched your fists. You just wanted to sleep and was they can’t even see in the dark so why is it so fucking hard to
Celeborn’s soothing voice cut through your thoughts. “Grinding teeth has never been good for anyone.”
You went to get up to bow, but he pushed you back down and instead sat next to you. He handed you a mug of tea, spiced like the autumn leaves that crunch on the ground and he pulled his cloak over your head. He wrapped an arm tightly around you and ran a hand over your back soothingly, repeating the motion until some of the stress bled out of your shoulders.
“Sleep, Marchwarden.” He said, surprisingly muffled. “We will return home soon enough.”
Tumblr media
Galadriel:
Woman’s got magic powers so headcanon she can silence the shit out of anything she wants to.
You recited your list in your head again, preparing the council room for the next mornings session. Surely, things will go smoother than the last. You hoped. It’s not that you don’t like King Thranduil or his sons, but by the Valar they really made things much more complicated and drawn out. The festivities were still going on just the first night and it was already past the curfew time, so recently created since Sauron had been rumored to return. The music was so loud too, the trees providing no insulation against the talented Mirkwood flautists and bards.
You jumped and twirled around, heart pounding as someone grabbed you from behind. Papers flew across the floor. “M-my Lady.” You stuttered, looking up at Lady Galadriel. Her lips were down turned as she looked at you.
“I didn’t mean to startle you, little one. I was calling for you for some time, but you weren’t responding. Are you well?” She asked.
“Fine, my Lady.” You mumbled. It was hard to understand her. Everything seemed so far away except the music pounding in your head and ears, growing into a migraine. You had always been sensitive to noise.
Galadriel hummed softly and you winced, then widened your eyes in fear.
“I - I- “ you started, panic thrumming in your veins. You had allowances, but surely…
Suddenly, her lips were against yours and her arms were pulling you closer. You made a soft noise and she kissed you again, her nose pressing into your cheek. Her lips pressed against your cheekbones and you realized that as you were distracted with your Lady’s lips that the festivities seemed to have abruptly ended. You blinked, confused.
Galadriel smiled at you and kissed you deeper as her voice sounded in your head. “I would silence the realm for your comfort, but tonight, this room shall do.” You flushed and caught the shine of Nenya in the candlelight.
“Now,” she murmured, picking you up and setting you on the table and stepping between your legs, hands running up your thighs, “let’s see what we can do about that unfortunate pain.”

can we hear about "put the lights out" please? <3
So this is one of the barely sketched out ideas (I don't have a snippet to give you unfortunately).
It's essentially an AU of an AU: when I first started planning "we will make this place our home", I couldn't decide whether I wanted to set it in WW2 or the 1970s. Obviously I decided to go with the 1970s, but I really want to write out how the first few chapters of the WW2 version!
The basic premise here is that Elrond and Elros are evacuees sent to the countryside for safety during the Blitz. Like many children, they're evacuated with their school; when they reach Formenos at the end of a long train journey, all the children are taken to the village hall and the locals choose which children they want to host. Elrond and Elros are in the unenviable position of being chosen last: few villagers have space for more than one child, they refuse to be split up, and they're too young to be much help on a farm. In the end, one of the teachers has to take them through the village and plead their case with every villager who hasn't already taken in an evacuee.
Enter Maedhros and Maglor, local recluses and veterans of the last war. Alone in the dilapidated manor house, they are cut off from the rest of the community. The local children fear them (and, in especially audacious moods, dare one another to jump the Feanorians' hedge). Ghost stories abound. Maedhros has not been seen in some years, and the local gossips are convinced he's dead. They certainly didn't volunteer for the evacuation program.
All this goes through Maglor's head when a very insistent teacher knocks on his door and presents him with two wide-eyed, overtired city kids. He shouldn't take them in: he has enough on his plate caring for Maedhros, and the manor house is about as far from welcoming as you can get.
But. But. Everyone else in the village has said no.
Cue several chapters of Maglor and Maedhros trying to pretend they don't want the evacuees there, but getting attached against their will - much like the proverbial Dad Who Absolutely Doesn't Want A Cat. Meanwhile Elrond and Elros are just trying to get used to their new strange circumstances (the house is definitely still haunted and possibly a lot creepier than I've written it in the 1970s AU). And also deal with the fact that the locals keep looking at them as if they're the bravest souls this side of the Atlantic.
...okay that was a lot more rambling than I planned for xD I really need to get round to writing this thing.

👀 A fic that you love a normal amount
Darling, in the End, We All Become What We Pretend to Be by palaces_out_of_paragraphs - A Westallen fake marriage, no powers, college AU in which Iris thinks it'd be great idea to get married to her bestie for the financial aid benefits and then they can amicably divorce after graduating. It's not like they'll fall in love right? (Of course Barry is already in love and aware this is a terrible idea, but when has he ever been able to tell Iris no?)
💌 A fic that inspired you to create something for it
The Scruff Factor by JastaElf - A Lord of the Rings fic about Aragorn putting up with elven ridiculousness and shenanigans while at Elrond's.
It's still one of my favorite Lord of the Ring fics - but I first read it... in junior high I think? It inspired me to write a short story for extra credit in an English class, but unfortunately I no longer have a copy of that fic. It was just a silly Return of the King fic with some similar themes to what was in The Scruff Factor, so it wasn't specifically something created for the fic that inspired me.
There are definitely times I wish I had the skills to draw fanart of people's fics (or of my own) but I've never had the patience to develop my art skills the way I have with my fic writing. And I think my tendency to wonder "what if" means I'm more likely to just write a fic inspired by another fanwork than to make a fanwork of a fanwork.
😭 A fic that ripped your heart out (but it hurt so good)
New Conditions by AssistedRealityInterface - A fic about Hartley struggling to deal with being disowned by his parents, internalized homophobia, and his crush on Cisco. It's definitely a so good but it hurts fic.

"Treat" for Elrond, please? 🥺👉👈
Sure thing! How about Elrond and children?
The life of an elf may be everlasting, but youth was truly fleeting. Elrond had few memories of his own children in their pre-adolescent state if only because he had a handful of decades with them as so compared to the centuries he’s spent with them as adults. Which has indeed been an honor and a privilege to know them as individuals in control of their own minds and bodies. After all, why glorify the journey to self-discovery when the end result is beautiful in its fruition?
He just sometimes forgets this is not an opinion shared by the mortals around him. They see the start of life as something pure and invigorating, and upon occasion choose to press their joy upon him. As if his many years upon this earth make him an ideal minder, and when dealing with royal mortals, it’s an unnecessary headache if he does manage to offend. Which is how he found himself in a staring match with the dwarvish child in his arms.
The little prince tilted his head, gurgling something as his chubby fingers reached out for something he could not reach.
“And what is he trying to communicate with me?” Elrond asked, not taking his eyes from the curious child.
Thror smirked as he relieved Elrond of his burden.
“He’s a baby, Master Elf. He’s just making noise.”
Elrond cocked an eyebrow which had the young Prince Thrain squealing, his face stretched into a smile. Something about his stand-off had his father barking in laughter.
“Your face looks as if you plan to be facing orcs and wargs any moment.”
“Forgive me.” Elrond bowed his head. “It’s been…awhile since I’ve interacted with someone so young.”
“Aye, I figured. You should have been here last week. Thrain latched onto a handful of Thranduil’s hair, and the poncy git looked as if he were trying to decipher if the attack was intentional.”
Elrond had to hide a smirk behind his fist in order to save face. Thranduil had a long memory after all, and he would hate for it to get back to the self-proclaimed “King of the Woodland Realm”. Seeing the twinkle in Thror’s bright blue eyes though, he could tell he wasn’t successful. The father set to tickling his son under his hairless chin which had Thrain screaming in glee and latching onto one of the large rings to decorate the king’s finger.
“You know, my advisors think me mad already. ‘Introduce your son to the elves? What good could come from trusting those…’ and you’ll have to forgive me, they used some rather creative insults at this point.”
“Of course.” Elrond mused in a dry tone.
“But, I remember what my father said, Mahal rest his soul, about good friends. We’re not close enough to be ‘good friends’, I’m unfortunately stuck with Thranduil on that front. But I have heard of the impartiality of the Lord of Imladris. I hope that perhaps that means we can be good…acquaintances.”
Elrond hesitated. He’s thrown his loyalty, his friendship, to so many mortals over the years only for it to backfire. There is a reason Rivendell served as a Sanctuary and not a Kingdom. However, looking at the care Thror used attending to his son, it brought a smile to his face.
“Should Erebor need help, they need only turn to the Last Homely House.”
Trick or treat my inbox.

1, 2, 8, 17, 25 please!!
hii thank you ❤️❤️
1. Favorite character?
oh no don’t make me choose 😭😭😭 I’m gonna have to say Elendil though, I imprinted on him like a baby duck and he’s my father figure now!!!
I also imprinted on Elrond like a duck but in that case he’s the duckling and I wanna protect him 🥺
2. Least favorite character?
hm, possibly Kemen, he has the rancid vibes of a college republican :(
8. What is your nOTP?
Once upon a time I would’ve said Haladriel but @brynnmclean’s fic changed that 💀 I guess I don’t have a notp for this show! I love being a weird multishipper ❤️
17. What are your thoughts on the original characters? Do you like them?
Unequivocally YES I LOVE THEM. Adar is the best thing that could’ve happened to a Tolkien show (you gotta deal with the Uruk problem! Are they an entirely evil race or not! And either way aren’t they the most tragic thing!!!)
Arondir and Bronwyn are so compelling and the actors do a fantastic job—unsure if anyone alive rn is more elf-y than ICC! I like the Harfoot girls a lot and I’m excited to see more Nori in the future :)
Earien, despite having very little to do in the show so far, has so much potential for future drama 👀👀👀 And I’m literally in love with Valandil, hope he gets an arc worthy of Alex Tarrant’s beautiful beautiful face.
25. Any predictions for the next season? Or anything you would like to happen?
Predictions: Unfortunately Adar’s probably gonna die, RIP 💀 And I’m like 85% sure the siege of Eregion (oh no German autocorrect do not change that to Erektion) is happening so ol’ Brimby is a goner too. I’m sure we’ll see a lot of Rhun; I’m gunning for one of the new announced cast members to be playing a future Nazgûl whom they meet in Rhun 👀 Also, Isildur is so Aragorn coded, of course they’re gonna have Berek save himmmmm
Things I’d like to see: @aadmelioraa and I have talked A LOT about Valandil getting an arc where he chooses to stand with Pharazon and the Kings Men and not with the Faithful in the wake of Ontamo’s death and Isildur’s “death”—I personally would like to see him transform due to grief ❤️ I also really wanna meet Anarion, Anarion’s wife, and Isildur’s future wife. And if they’re gonna have Amandil in the show we gotta meet him too. Gimme all the Numenoreans!!!!
Finally, Pelargir: there are several good ways this could go (is it occupied or nearly abandoned? faithful, no longer faithful? will it be one of Pharazon’s new colonial projects in the future?) so I’m just fascinated to see which direction they take it!!
rings of power asks

Fic: My Deep Valley 7 + 8/8, T, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond
Elrond has found the perfect place to build his new home. He also has one of Gondolin's greatest architects at hand to build it. Now he only needs the cooperation of the local population.
Unfortunately, said population is objecting. Represented by the son of the tavern owners, they resist the architect's grand plans, and it is up to Glorfindel to convince Erestor to yield.
My Deep Valley Chapter 7: They Shall Not Pass (link goes to A03)
"Snow is nothing but water."
My Deep Valley Chapter 8: At Dusk (link goes to A03)
"You name does not appear here," he finally declared. "I fear you must sleep with the goats."
For @sortumavaara and @keiliss
Notes:
For the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2022, artist @sortumavaara created a very lovely piece of art.
Unfortunately, @keiliss could not fill the following prompt anymore:
Glorfindel/Erestor (M/M) For this piece E & G have known each other for a while; first as co-workers but now have become friends of sort. The current deal with them is their (borderline alcoholic tendency) to get lost in the sauce once a tenday while complaining about the things they have to put up with. (You can get as mean as you’d like.) Somehow this always ends up with them sharing a bed (see picture). Imladris 2nd age.
Sortumavaara's art captured a special moment and mood. I would like to thank the artist from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to use both artwork and prompt as inspiration for this tale. I do not know whose prompt it was, but of course, this one is for them as well.
An awfully long time ago, there was an open chat on the "Elf on a Shelf" website. It was part role playing, part chatting about our daily lives, part plot bunny breeding. A virtual pub for fans of all things Tolkien. Keiliss was one of them, and she fed my plot bunnies many carrots. She was great; I wish I had told her more often. I miss her.
Thanks to everyone for their patience with this tale. These last months brought many personal losses, and at times, it was simply not possible for me to write anything positive. But as always, "this deep valley" has been a healing place for me just as it was for Glorfindel.

The Wolf and His Dove
Summery: Just Faeron introducing is great great nephew? to the son of one of the Valar who annoys him the most
Pairing: Lúthion X Thilion
Featuring: Thilion, Lúthion, Faeron, Valkor, Haldir, Elladan, Elrohir, Arwen, Elrond
All the Oc's I have shipped so far have been Elves x Maiar.
I live for writing Oc x Oc fics
@eunoiaastralwings more loveabal Oc's of mine i think you will enjoy yes i unfortunately named Thilion similar to Thalion and they are not brother but we don't talk about that
Tumblr media
"What have you done Uncle" Elrond questioned as he saw the look on Faeron's face
"I dealt with an annoyance by giving it a distraction" Faeron said in answer to Elrond
"He set Lúthion up on a date" Elladan said from Haldir's lap when did he even get in the marchwardens lap and when did Haldir even get here Elrond thought
"With who though" Elrohir said from leaning against the wall of Valkor's hut the group was huddle in the poor Maiar of Irmo's hut watching out of the one way window at Lúthion but they could not see the other person.
"Thilion" Elladan said
"Thalion he's with Aerdis the Bird brain will kill him" Elrohir said
"Thilion, the child of the most annoying Valar to him" Elladan corrected
"Oh, is he just as annoying as his father" Elrohir questioned
"Some times, he's more of a pain to deal with" Faeron said
"Why do you sit like that" Elrond said turning to Faeron who was 'sat' crouched on the stool
"What do you mean" Faeron said
"He is right you do sit kind of weirdly Meleth" Valkor said
"You are so rude" Faeron said moving to sit properly.
Tumblr media
"Faeron catch you two" the short white haired man said as he looked to the Elf who approched
"Unfortunately it seems that is so" Lúthion said
"he left a picnic to us, free food may as well eat it" The short haired man said sitting down on the blanket he through the letter out but Lúthion caught it and opened it.
Have fun, thought you would like each other ~ Faeron
Lúthion shook his head and sat down on the blanket crossing his legs as the man pulled a bottle out
"Dragon's Breath T.A: 1601 oh best year for stardew winery hard to find" Thilion said the two soon started talking over the wine and the snacks of fruit and nuts
"I think Faeron was right to introduce us" Lúthion said
"One of his better ideas I must say" Thilion said the man glanced to Lúthion
"Your not bad for an elf" Thilion said
"Your not half as bad as what Faeron says about you" Lúthion said.
Tumblr media
Since then Lúthion had found himself trailing the Valar and normally Thilion would care if someone did this he always told Lúthion to leave him alone the elf never went and he never made him go Lúthion was like a puppy following Thilion.
"OI Fëanorian" Thilion called Faeron turned from Valkor to him
"What" Faeron questioned
"Where's the stupid elf which always follows me, your related to him aren't you" Thilion said
"Oh you mean Lúthion he leaving today back to Imladris" Faeron said the short valar huffed and left
"You think he's going to go after him" valkor asked as he pulled Faeron in by the waist
"High probability" Faeron hmmed as he humored the maiar and sat in his lap
"Oi stupid dog elf" Thilion said approaching the Imladris delegation
"You mean me" Lúthion questioned pointing at himself with a raised eyebrow
"Who else will i be talking to no one else follows me like a lost puppy" Thilion said
"What do you want oh great prince of the valar" Lúthion said laughing and bowing to him only to have the shorter man grab his chin and pull him back up
"WH-" Lúthion didn't even get to finish before the Valar had his lips on his Lúthion stepped back as Thilion himself stepped forward a leg between the elfs the two fell backwards onto the ground as Lúthion had nothing behind him to stop him falling
"Haldir why don't you kiss me like that" Elladan pouted to the Marchwarden stood besides his horse
"Because he has a stick up his ass" Rúmil said Lúthion pushed the valar back
"I- you, me huh" Lúthion couldn't managed to get a sentence out
"Yes I love you, you idiot" Thilion said kissing Lúthion again
"Me to" Lúthion said kissing the Valar back
"Of course you love me everyone loves me, i am the prince of the valar, son of Manwë" Thilion said
"Your getting a bit to cocky their, Faeron hates you" Lúthion said
"He doesn't have taste" Thilion said making Lúthion laugh
"Are you going to stay here or come back with us" Elrond said
"ADA" Lúthion shouted shooting up headbutting the valar on top of him
"Stay or come i do not mind, you can stay with your grandparents if you wish if they don't mind" Elrond said Galadriel shook her head
"We don't mind at all" She replied
"Can I stay" Elladan said
"No" Haldir said
"Rude" Elladan said
"I'll stay then" Lúthion said as he bid his father and siblings goodbye

Hi so I just binged your fics and adore them, I love “kids get sane adults and overcome trauma and feel safe” fics
And I was wondering if it was inspired by any other fics you could recommend? Especially Tolkien
aaa I'm so glad you like them! thank you!
The adoptive family trope is a trope that is incredibly near and dear to my heart and weirdly underexplored in the LOTR fandom tbqh. You'd think there would be more of it. I get this question a lot and unfortunately I must repeat that my toxic trait is that I am incredibly picky when it comes to the fics I read, and that And the Stars Shine the Same was actually started in a blind rage after scouring the internet for anything like it, and finding that most of them over-simplified the healing process or grossly mischaracterized Elrond OR turned out to be romantic in the end (but like not in a good way). So unfortunately I have very few fics I can recommend.
In terms of well-written fic that you might like if you like my work, as always, I recommend pretty much anything @jaz-the-bard has written when it comes to Elrond & kidnap fam adjacent material (and just...good fic...in general...hngg). @potatoobsessed999 (potatoesanddreams on AO3) has some really lovely genfic, and I literally cannot recommend @idrilsscribe's Under Strange Stars series enough. The Ever-Fixed Star series is an incredible set of Elrond-adjacent (but mostly Feanorian-centric) fics by @eirianerisdar that deal with themes of forgiveness, family, redemption, and healing and they remain just about some of my favorite fics of all time <3 I also will continue to endlessly rec @thatfeanorian's All the Ways to Love which is not gen, but does include just really excellent Russingon slowburn trauma recovery re: Feanor is The Worst Dad Ever and Maedhros' self-esteem is a dumpster fire, and Fingon is Best Boy (of course!).
For other fandoms I recently blitzed through I've Been Holding Back Tears (While You're Throwing Back Beers) by im_your_mom_now which is just unabashed Peter Parker AU whump with Tony being a very worried and concerned adult (trying to be a worried and concerned adoptive dad but of course it's Tony and he's emotionally constipated so he's not going to outright admit that he feels like Peter is his son which is just CHEFS KISS) It's actually incredibly well written -- like I don't normally go for Marvel anything but I just couldn't resist. It hit all my sweet spots for me and I really am a softie for Dad!Tony with Peter. <3 It's incredibly anti aunt-May though, fair warning.
Yeah that's mostly what I have for you! If any of my followers wants to chime in -- as always drop your recs on this post for anon :)

Jip is a Dutch veterinarian who is looking for a job change in a country that is not her own. She is fleeing from her past and needs a fresh start. However, nothing has prepared her for Thranduil King, who owns a ranch not far from her veterinary clinic in Pendleton, Oregon. He can't stand her at first, until she shows him that she won't let herself be bullied by him. Everything changes for both of them from that moment onwards. Unfortunately Jip carries a tonne of insecurities and suffers from a very low self-esteem. Thranduil manages to help her deal with them, though with some difficulty. For the first time in a long time, they both seem to have found the kind of happiness that has been a stranger to them both, until Jip's past catches up with her and it will cost her and Thranduil dearly. But dealing with the past is not as easy as they think, as they will find out. There will unexpected surprises around many corners and a few twists along the way. Will Jip and Thranduil ever find their 'happy ever after?' There is only one way to find out.

Hello. Can I ask you about timeline of Return to Aman? I would love to know when the separate stories happened. Did Maglor visit his mother soon after they arrived to Aman? Was it in their first year or did he wait some time? How long do they live on Tol Eressëa when the house of Fingolfin was released? When Mereth Aderthad happened? I'm thinking about it every time I read RtA, it's bothering me a great deal. Thank you.
I started cheerily answering this thinking: there are only 15 stories, this will be easy, I don't even need to check my notes! And I got about half way through and realised that yes, I needed to check my notes and also I re-read half of it. Which was fun, but, um, sorry for the delay?
So I've ended up with this loooong timeline post.
Return to Aman Timeline
About 400 Second Age : And the wind as sweet as honey in the mouth (Elrond finds Maglor) It's summer in this one, because the eyebright is in bloom. Probably June: it's not so warm that you don't want something to wrap up in outdoors in the evening.
Third Age:
Late September 3021 Remembrance of Time Long Past (Elrond persuades Maglor to join him on the ship, and Galadriel to go along with it, while the Hobbits have a series of jolly good meals and a chat, and completely fail to notice that Elrond has popped out for a while)
October 3021 :
5th Across so Wide a Sea Elrond goes to see his mother, taking a deeply embarrassed Maglor along with him. On their way back to Tol Eressëa afterwards, they meet Finrod on the ferry.
6th In Avallónë by the Sea : Maglor and Finrod discuss poetry and First Age Beleriand.
10th Love, Politics and Pastries : Elrond and Celebrían, finding their way back together.
15th Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima ; Eärendil, returning from a voyage, takes a day off to visit his son. It's a little unfortunate that he encounters Maglor first but fortunately, Frodo smooths thing over. The first autumn storm hits Tol Eressëa.
November 3021
5th Nov Come Home : Maglor, Elrond and Finrod visit Tirion, manage to prevent the resulting fireworks among Maglor fans from getting out of hand, and visit Nerdanel and Finarfin. Nerdanel's roses are still in bloom but getting a bit tatty.
Mereth Aderthad : Once More: With Feeling begins about 15th Nov 3021, but it has time-skips. Elrond and Gil-galad have seen each other before this, of course, but this is their first chance to have a proper reunion banquet.
Then there is the planning for the really big Mereth Aderthad bash, which will be the celebration for Fingolfin's return. I think the planning scene is probably some time in December.
Elrond is busy researching the appeal to the Valar for the return of the House of Fingolfin (and Lalwen) which isn't fully in the story, partly because I have difficulty imagining anyone at the end of the Third Age in Valinor, up to and including Manwe, being able to look Elrond and Celebrian in the face and say 'no' to whatever they think is a good idea.
Fourth Age Year 1
The first part of this year is taken up with Mereth Aderthad planning and organisation, Elrond and his household visiting everyone, and people visiting them. Maglor is working hard on his Mereth Aderthad songs, and basically avoiding talking to anyone but Elrond, Celebrian and the hobbits. Occasionally Gandalf if he doesnt' manage to avoid him in time.
Fingolfin and his house return from the Halls of Mandos triumphant at Midyear's Day in Year 1 of the Fourth Age. If Elrond seems slightly less than entirely cheerful, it might be because the last big party he attended at midsummer was Arwen's wedding two years previously.
(Cirdan is briefly visiting Tol Eressëa in this story but is still officially resident in Lindon: he can't visit Aman.)
By 3rd July 1 FA the main party is over, and Maglor runs into trouble with his Oath: Seeds of Lies.
Even the Very Wise could be later that same year, but I'm inclined to think it is set in the summer of the next year, 2FA or maybe even 3FA, perhaps June since Lalwen has had time to start planning her new house on Tol Eressëa (so she can spend some time with Gil-galad). Nerdanel finally makes up her mind exactly how she feels about Fëanor.
Shadows Cast by Memory I think is slightly out of order in the sequence: the apples in the orchard are ripening when the heroes of Gondolin turn up, having decided that Maglor is too dangerous to be left to Elrond's supervision. I think this is probably still September 1FA, and follows fairly closely after Seeds of Lies. I suspect there was another conference in Tirion after Mereth Aderthad concluded, at which Turgon had a good deal to say and this led to both the appearance of Ecthelion and friends, and also the visit from Fingon and Finrod.
Sometime between 5 FA and 30FA Among the Ainur and Other Animals : Nimloth visits, then Bilbo & Elrond have a Road Trip to Valimar. Bilbo is well enough for a long horse-ride and debating with the Vanyar, though Frodo is still suffering occasionally from seasonal depression. At some point during this period, Celebrian writes to Manwë about Maedhros.
30 FA Many Meetings: The Night is Passing. Celebrimbor returns from the Halls of Mandos, and then there's a timeskip to :
September 61FA: Sam, Cirdan, Elrohir and Celeborn sail to Aman
Also September 61FA : I Will Not Say the Day Is Done in which Maglor comes to an understanding of a kind with both Ecthelion and Celeborn.
100FA The House of Fëanor : Little Pity Aragorn is still alive, though old at the start of this story. Celebrimbor has been running the Fëanorian Quarter of Tirion for almost seventy years, which gives plenty of time for Finrod to hand over to him and for Celebrimbor to have thoroughly got to know the job.
The meeting with Elrond, Finarfin, Celebrimbor etc is a month before the House of Fëanor are released.
1 month later: Fëanor and his sons leave Mandos and come to Tirion.
12 years for Fëanor to get to know the Noldor, during which Maglor leaves Tol Eressea, and lives in Tirion with his brothers. A transition period during which the House of Finarfin get to start considering where they would actually like to live if they didn't have to all spend their time managing Tirion.
112FA Fëanor takes responsibility, and the crown, and begins to make new plans about what to do with it.
120FA September : Aragorn is dead: Arwen is dying. Legolas and Gimli come to Aman in time for Bilbo's twenty-fifty-first birthday, and Frodo's seventeenty-third. Gimli and Legolas meet Maglor, and then Aulë and Fëanor. Elrond and Celebrian grieve for Arwen. Maglor has complicated feelings about his father. Galadriel manages an entire conversation with Fëanor that is reasonably civil.
Nienna speaks with the spirit of Maglor's wife (and her horse)
Sam and Frodo make their Big Decision, and meet Ulmo.
Fëanor Does The Thing. Amazingly, nobody dies or even gets burnt.
Three years (and a bit) to build the ships.
Spring 124FA The Noldor carry out Fëanor's Plan. Fingolfin becomes Fëanor's regent (and effectively co-monarch) in Tirion. Finarfin finally gets to live in the nice house by the beach with peach trees in the garden that he's been pining for since before the Sun rose.
nine years later:
Summer 133 FA Maglor and Finrod's all-night song-writing barbecue on the beach near Alqualondë is interrupted, and that's the last fixed date in the series because after that it starts to fold out from a calendar into myth.
(The weather in each story is more or less seasonal British/North west European weather, just because I found it easier because that's my weather. )

Elves Reacting To Your Period
Tumblr media
Imladris
Elrond
Elrond is an ellon expert knowledge of healing, humans and had a sibling who chose a mortal life. Let alone making Imladris a haven for all races and walks of life- that were peaceful, of course. So you wouldn’t be the first menstruating human he’s been around. He is completely and utterly supportive yet subtle and discreet knowing that this is a delicate time for you. As well as possibly embarrassing to make a tremendous fuss over it.
Elrond discreetly brings you pain relievers, has soothing teas prepared for you, checks in on you when he has the time available. The Healer in him brings him to fret over you some, and should your pain be severe, he is quick to alleviate it. He’s had thousands of years to assist with such things, and you being his partner, he will more than happily help you. He will also make sure any menstrual products are there at your immediate disposal.
Elrond is very gentle with you, being sure to provide you with the emotional and mental comfort that you might need during the day. Making himself far more available through your period if he can help it, wanting to make sure you have the proper support you need. Saving any physical comforts for later when you two can be alone properly and uninterrupted.
Glorfindel
This warm ball of sunshine isn’t entirely clueless about humans and their menstruation cycles. He has spent little of his time around it or reading about it. While logically he knows you menstruate, it surprises Glorfindel the first time he encounters it with you. Glorfindel is worried he has hurt you somehow or another, even if the placing of blood on your clothes and sheets show that he couldn’t possibly have hurt you.
Glorfindel is quick to try to get you to a healer or a healer to you, wanting to make sure you are in fact okay. Though when you explain to him that partially, you are okay and that the bleeding is normal; he is quick to simmer down. The ease with which you speak of it is what brings him to trust you on it, and he attentively listens to you. Glorfindel also asks you a lot of questions about it, as it is human men he is used to being around, so his knowledge about your reproductive health is not extensive. He is also quick to help you clean up any sheets or clothes that need to be taken care of, or take over gathering the items while you clean and situate yourself.
Glorfindel will do what he can to take some time off during your worst days of menstruation and is unfortunately not exactly tactful about it at first. You will have to tell him if it bothers you, in the event you find it embarrassing, as he has no shame in announcing it. Because he will straightforwardly tell them “Y/N is menstruating I am afraid I am unavailable until further notice.”. Once you tell him, Glorfindel will keep that talk between you, him and the Healers if need be. When he can’t be there with you, he instead sends a healer in to check on you and bring you the things you need.
Erestor
Erestor is extremely knowledgeable and has spent a copious amount of time absorbing everything there is too in the library. Even on healing subjects, no matter how gruesome or unusual they may seem to him. But with dealing with menstruation... Well, that is a completely different story. Erestor won’t make a massive fuss over you being on your period, but he is entirely flustered by what you are going through.
At first he genuinely doesn’t know what to do. He never imagined he would have to deal with a menstruating human. Even when he started courting you. But Erestor is very technical and by the book- literally here. So he does what he thinks anyone should do, and goes to reference his books quietly and away from prying eyes.Erestor is extremely discreet about helping you, keeping the matter very private. Don’t mistake this for him being ashamed of you, he is far from ashamed of your bodily function. Erestor is just a very private ellon.
He places a few orders for a dozen or more every month, for pain relievers to be kept in your shared chambers at all times. Stashed away in your desk drawers too so they are readily available and you or him aren’t having to haul off to the Healing Halls all the time. Quietly he will consult Elrond- the only other elf he will tell about it- if he feels like he isn’t doing enough until he gets the hang of helping you. If your pain and discomfort is severe, Erestor- while one for privacy- will go with you to the Healing Halls and explain the matter to them. Diligently sticking by your side and listening intently for care instructions and how to help you further.
Lindir
Lindir is completely and utterly flustered when he discovers that you are menstruating. It is not that he is doing it to make you feel bad- which only makes him feel worse when he sees his embarrassment is distressing you- it’s that he just doesn’t know what to do. Seeing the blood on the sheets and on your clothes makes him feel faint as are you hurt? But then you explain its your period?
Of course he knows what a period is from what he has overheard when coming to see Elrond in the Healing Halls. But that doesn’t make him any less uncomfortable about it. He is stammers and stutters asking questions and is bright cherry red trying to figure out what to do next. Despite all this fuss he has stirred up, Lindir is really supportive. Just the first few times this is what you will encounter. With him profusely apologizing for embarrassing you or distressing you.
Trying to help somehow, nervously going down to the healers or Elrond for the things you need while you tidy up. Elrond swore the first time he came to him and had to talk to him about it, that he was going to faint over the ordeal. Elrond made him sit an extra ten minutes until he could calm down and send him back to you. On his way back, Lindir sends for someone to fix you your favorite meal and may grab a flower or two as an overly sweet gesture to apologize with the pain reliever in hand. In time, every time you have your period, he gives you a flower with your first meal after he sees how happy it makes you the first time.
Elrohir
While Elrohir is used to being around humans, them being menstruating humans is a completely different subject. As it is, he is already pretty protective over you and your well being, especially since you’re human and considers you to be more fragile. So when you wake up and are bleeding or have bled through your clothes and maybe even on him, worried is a very simple way of putting it. He certainly makes a fuss over it between you both!
While being such a great healer himself, he is ready to give you an exam from head to toe and figure out why and where you are bleeding. When you tell him what your period is, and its purpose, Elrohir’s visibly relieved that no, it is not life threatening. And grateful that no he didn’t sleep through you getting hurt- as he is a heavy sleeper. Though he voices his concerns that you are now physically uncomfortable. But like his father, Elrohir is quick to use his skills in healing to good use to help ease your pains and discomforts. Making and bringing you tonics and pain relievers and anything you need to ease the nuisance of your menstruation.
Elrohir will prefer that you take time off from any work and take time off his own duties to be with you when he’s in Imladris. Like this goes without question and there is no making him change his mind, every single month. Without fail Elrohir takes that week off to be with you. Even if you tell him you will be fine, Elrohir is taking the time off regardless and will absolutely even go as far as to delay his leavings with the Rangers until the time has passed. He’s happy to hold you and kiss all over you and lounge around with you if that makes you feel better. He’ll read softly to you, or comfort you through such tough emotional difficulties, and most definitely not skip over any whims you may have for food.
Elladan
Like Elrohir, he isn’t used to be around menstruating humans at all. Though he is far more laid back compared to his brother. So rather than making a huge fuss about your menstruation, Elladan will ask you seriously if you are okay and carry on as if it were not really a big deal. Making a few light hearted jokes to keep your mood up if he can tell it is negatively affecting you.
Elladan will help you clean things up without question. The sheets are dirty and you’re embarrassed? No big deal, you can’t help it. Elladan just carries on normalizing these instances for you entirely, as he just wants you to be comfortable with him. I headcanon that while Elladan does and can heal, making tonics/pain relievers aren’t his strong suit and he will definitely ask his brother to do so for you.
Elladan is laid back, so if you need anything from him you can most certainly tell him and he will do it without question. You want alone time because you’re furious? No big deal, he will back in an hour or two. You want him all to yourself all day? You’ve got it. It embarrasses you to go to the healing halls for menstruation products? Say no more, Elladan is already halfway down the hall to get it for you.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
Haldir
Haldir is no stranger to blood or humans and their customs and bodily functions. So when you menstruate the first time while together, he completely and totally expected it to happen. It was inevitable, but that doesn’t mean that he knows everything you need. Haldir knows that pain is something that generally seems to be an issue for menstruating humans and is at least prepared for that much.
He asks you what all you need while bringing you a vial of pain reliever he has stored in talan or on his person specifically for you. Telling you not to fuss with anything other than yourself, if it's like a bedroll or comforter you’ve bled over. The ellon knows how to get blood out of fabric and will first handle the list of things you need and then tend to the stained fabric. Haldir will go and fetch the things you need without batting an eyelash, and he just brushes any of the healer's concerns aside.
Even if they offer to help, he just shrugs away their words, knowing you’ll go to them if you need it and that there is no sense and making a big deal over something so normal for you. Haldir will listen to all of your woes about it, comforting you even in his more subtle ways however he can. Holding your hand, rubbing your back, and in private holding you close. Haldir though will just tell you flat out to do something that will help you if he knows you are putting it off or have forgotten. Unperturbed by the conversation or needing to help you when he’s around and not on patrol.
