Hello everyone and happy Saturday! This day seems to have gone like the speed of light but I’m back with an #authornamestack which I was inspired to join in by seeing it on the lovely Kelly’s @smeets_x page. This time, it’s Carol/Carole/Caroline and completely by coincidence, they all seem to be lovely shades of blue!! 💙 Have I read any of them? Now there’s a question 🤨🧐 Umm, no. No I haven’t. 🤣 If you have though, let’s have a chat in the comments, I’d love to know your thoughts! Have a great weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #scottishbookstagrammer #bluebookstack #themetalheart #carolinelea #coldboyswood #thethreadsoftheheart #carolemartinez #carolbirch #faerytales #carolannduffy #bookstack #booksonmytbr #booksimexcitedabout https://www.instagram.com/p/CfPWTiurzYN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Empress. Art by Nara Lesser, from Neurotic Owl’s Faerytale Tarot.
For the Empress, I wanted to do a Selkie, even though the truth is that Selkie tales (and swan maiden tales, and really any ‘man traps magical maiden into marriage’ tales) are TERRIBLE.  But the creatures at the root of those stories are delightful.  Who doesn’t want to be able to turn into a seal?
The general gist if you’re unfamiliar is young man sees beautiful girl walking along shore with wet hems and wet footprints, no matter how far she walks.  He realizes at some point that she’s a Selkie; sometimes that’s before they’re married, sometimes it’s after.  Either way, he steals her sealskin, which traps her on land in human form.   Marriage goes on, the dude sucks, and at some point after they have had a child together he either yells at or hits her for a third time and she retrieves her skin and disappears with the baby, off to live happy seal life again.  Mercedes Lackey has a nice twist on it in her Elemental Masters books, where the Selkie boys need to intermarry with humans to keep their people going but post-industrialization it’s not so easy to turn up on the beach and marry a girl, so a helpful magician finds willing brides who are perfectly delighted to have handsome husbands who can support them comfortably, are great in bed, and fuck off with the kids to the sea regularly while they get a nice break.  Seriously sign me up, I’m in.
But ok.  My Selkie has her skin safely over her shoulder, and she’s out in the sea, not staring longingly through a window at it.  She’s both part of nature and apart from it, she’s fertility and transformation, she’s mysterious but open.  She’s the mistress of her own powers.  If she takes a human husband, it’ll be on her terms.  Also she’s fat, why the fuck did I ever draw a seal woman skinny?  (I’ll take internalized fatphobia and self-loathing for $5000.)

Irish Faery Story Book "Where the Faeries Dwell"
Hi all!
I am so incredibly proud of my mother who has published her very first book, "Where the Faeries Dwell".
She really put her heart and soul into creating a beautiful book of short stories based on the tales her Grandmother told her as a child about the interactions between humans and the Sidhe, the Faery folk of Irish mythology. These stories used to be passed down in the oral tradition by people gathering around the fireside, eagerly awaiting to hear stories of the Seanachai that would leave them spellbound and feeling a greater connection to their heritage. Even through all the turbulent times Ireland went through, these stories survived. If you or your family also enjoyed hearing fairy tales while growing up, this is a wonderful book to read.
She has set herself up online for people wanting to buy the book! I will link the two websites on my page if you are interested in checking it out and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message and I’ll be happy to help :)
Go raibh mile maith agat <3

A Night Out
Place: Future Rating: M Word Count: 1,322 TWs: Mild Panic Attack, Allusions to Past Abuse Prompt for Fransweek 2023: [Travel] Cross Posted to Ao3 here!
@fransweek
Frisk had been nervous, but so far everything seemed to be going surprisingly well.
When Sans had suggested taking their daughter to the human world for the first time Frisk's heart had nearly stopped. Not only had she been worried the young girl wasn't ready to travel—let alone to another realm—but Frisk had had a nightmare. Locked closets and yelling, sharp burns and foul names spat from putrid tongues. The scorn Elys might face due to her unique appearance, white hair, what if she was accused of being a witch? Frisk had tried not to let the worry get to her, she knew it was all part of her anxiety and trauma.
But this was her daughter.
Her baby.
Sans of course had seen right through her. He'd noticed right away the twitchiness, how her eyes narrowed further and squinted as if in direct sunlight, and the way she'd started fussing with their child's hair; combing it through with her fingers and flattening it down despite the little girl's protests.
It'd taken some prodding but eventually he'd been able to sequester her to their bedroom and listened just as he always did to her concerns. He'd been very reassuring, loving, attentive. Sans had even gone so far as to compromise by making a trip to her village as a starting point rather than someplace completely unknown.
It had helped.
And now that Frisk stood thigh to shoulder with her invisible spouse she found herself not as nearly on the brink of a panic attack as she'd been earlier that day. Elys was enjoying herself, asking questions about her mother's village that brought a smile to Frisk's face as she ran between food carts and shop windows, a hummingbird discovering its first garden beneath the illuminating lantern lights.
Frisk's eyes still darted too and fro when a stranger drew too close, but otherwise she was okay.
She was fine.
"frisk. you're chewing your lip again." She jolted, caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar.
Sans smiled softly as he placed a hand on the swell of her hip and guided her towards an apple cart nearby. His wife was handling this excursion really well, but at the same time he wondered if maybe Frisk could use a few more outings from the seelie realm herself. She was clearly nervous about being back after so many years having never visited, a stranger in familiar land.
He pointed at the man running the cart.
"remember him?"
The guy was five four, had an obvious hunch in his back and thick unruly white hair that flared out like cotton. All she had to do was picture it colored brown and the man standing slightly straighter and recognition instantly came into her eyes. Frisk blinked and grinned.
"Oh wow! He's still selling apples?"
The man had to be at least ninety years old now. She could still remember the shock and disbelief that had been on old man McGregor's face when one of the apples she'd purchased had vanished into thin air. It had been one of Frisk's favorite memories in the years Sans and her had been separated. She could still recall how the man had eyed her suspiciously each day after that, searching for clues or hints that he hadn't imagined what had happened.
Frisk chuckled. "Would you like another apple?"
"two." Sans smirked.
She raised a brow but didn't question him as she approached the cart, casting a cursory glance back to check on Elys before smiling happily at McGregor.
"Hello!"
McGregor blinked and then squinted before finally grinning. "Frisk?"
She nodded and held up four fingers. "Four please."
"I haven't seen you in a long time! Heard a rumor that the fae carried you away." He commented as he gathered the apples for her. Frisk pressed her lips together to resist laughing at just how true that rumor was.
"I met someone." She said instead.
It was surprising he didn't bring up the incident from before, but then again maybe he'd written it off as a daydream or hay fever. She understood, it was better than to have the villagers thinking him a loon. Still it would've been fun to reminisce on it together. McGregor had always been a kind heart.
He raised a brow as he traded coins with her, brows furrowed in concentration as he counted. "Well that's good to hear! A man from another village?"
"Something like that." Frisk hummed as she took the coins and the two apples Sans had requested and passed them to him.
McGregor's eyes shot wide, his thick white busy brows nearly shooting to his hairline as they revealed two startled brown iris staring at the floating fruit. Sans chuckled as he began to juggle them, watching gleefully as McGregor's mouth fell open and he raised a trembling hand to point at him. But more rewarding than that was Frisk, who hid an ear to ear grin behind her hand as her shoulders shook with repressed laughter.
"What—" Before the old timer could finish his sentence Sans tossed them both into the air and flipped open his pouch, winking smugly as they landed perfectly within its confines before being snapped shut.
McGregor was silent. Looked about to have an aneurism as he glanced to Frisk pale as a ghost. "D-did you see that?!"
"See what?" Elys asked, startling the man further and making him nearly fly out of his skin. Sans snorted as the guy peered at Elys dumbstruck.
"W-white hair—!?"
Frisk admittedly was enjoying herself but the last thing she wanted was a scene being caused. Elys didn't have the gift of invisibility like her father and uncle had, even in darkness the shade of her locks stood out like an ember. Placing hands on the back of both her daughter and husband's heads she led them away with a thank you called back over her shoulder.
Poor man was probably going to spend the rest of his days hooked on what had just transpired.
Sans on the other hand was smiling wide, happy to see Frisk was finally loosening up and more at ease at having found a face she recognized. She just needed a good distraction, well a talk more like but they could have that at home, no what she needed was not to focus on the negative right now. He directed his attention to Elys.
"having fun kiddo?" He asked as she accepted her apple and bit into it.
"Yep~"
That tone.
Sans and Frisk both stopped and looked at her.
"What did you do?" Frisk asked hesitantly.
There was a sudden shout, and all three turned to see one of the laundry houses had erupted with foam and soap pouring out of the doorway and windows. The three of them stared as an enraged hefty amazon looking woman came charging out drenched in the stuff and looking ready for battle, the soap coating her brows and chin in a mockery of facial hair nothing in lieu of the vengeance promised in her fisted hands and raised shoulders.
"...think it's time to go home." Sans muttered.
"Yep!" Frisk squeaked as she rushed the three of them towards the village exit with Elys' laughter filling the air.
The trip was cut short, but Frisk ended up thinking how taking her daughter out wasn't as bad as she'd thought it'd be. Maybe in time, she'd be able to handle going places entirely new with her family in tow.
She looked down at her currently tiny husband, one of his hands in Elys and the other in hers. His gaze flickered up in perfect sync and locked as his grin hitched in the corner. Her chest filled with warmth and his eyelights felt as if they encapsulated her heart in comfort and contentment, just like when she'd first met him.
Yes…
They could face anything and go anywhere, together.
