things in IWTV season 2 i'd lose my mind if it actually happens (or when. because some of those things will happen.). sorry for the mistakes btw

1. Claudeleine romantic relationship

Claudia finally having a vampire lover she can be herself with. the romantic & sexual tension. the heart to heart Louis and Claudia would have before changing Madeleine. the yearning. the tragic ending. the change of dynamics in the De Pointe du Lac family. the disruption of it all.

2. an exploration of Armand's relationship to religion, faith and God

specially in 2022. past religious crisis. how he articulates his vampire nature, his faith and his despair. lots of hints of TVA. God and art. religion, Armand and Louis. his religion (conversion from being christian to being muslim in this universe? if so, why?). "i serve, a God," would you mind to develop?

3. dramatic irony about Daniel's past and Devil's Minion

the rent boy. Daniel actually realising he had been a dick about that. "oh." after understanding the irony of it all. Armand talking in riddles and hinting at something Daniel is totally ignorant of. young Daniel's life and messy, loving and weird relationship with Armand. some activism. 2022 Daniel getting old, sicker and sicker. laughs. angst. tension. yearning. longing stares. petty remarks. revelations.

4. Loumand complex relationship

the love and the suffering. how they are both deeply attached to each other. how they show their care. the place Lestat holds right in the middle. how they deal with Claudia's death. what Louis really thinks about it. the tension. the yearning. how their relationship actually developed. the extent of Louis' memory alteration and how it plays a role into their dynamics. the after: how Armand helped Louis. messy divorce vibes. petty moves. to what extent their relationship is doomed. how one person can love several persons and in different ways, and how complex and delicate it is.

5. The Groan™

what is that. a metaphor for sexual arousal? Lestat scratching the walls? Rashid trapped? some clues. what the fuck.

6. Antoinette alive and kicking

and coming back right on time for the trial, because it would be 1) so fucking funny 2) utterly tragic, considering Claudia would be killed for killing nobody.

9. Claudia and Armand's relationship

Claudia being protective of Louis. Armand dealing with it. some sort of bond rivalry. both of them aware that something's wrong with the other. Armand and Claudia's similarities being acknowledged (age, killing a human they loved — Charlie, Ricardo — and complex situation regarding their maker), even a possibility for some kind of understanding and compassion (making the end more tragic). Armand seeing a some of Lestat in Claudia. Claudia seeing Armand's love for Lestat. a common love for theater and spectacular shows. that awful experience before Claudia's death.

10. Louis and memories

the photos he takes (where are they in 2022? will they clash with Louis' tale?). the metatextual dimension of themes such as: unreliable narration, memories and perspective, autofiction. Daniel calling out Louis' avoiding strategies. Louis calling out Daniel's rudeness and biais. how Louis really sees his relationship with Claudia? the gap between Louis' and Armand's recalling. a deeper exploration of his superimposed identities (black, queer, american man; in 1940, 1973, 2022). learning how to trust someone new after being abused. the rain metaphors. Louis saying the most poetic and heartbreaking thing you'll ever heard. his relationship to vampirism as he joins Armand's coven. grief and loss of a family member. hallucinations and how they are filmed / manifesting. guilt. loving Claudia and Armand. loving Lestat, still. etc.

Hello, and welcome to my TED Talk.

In this essay, I will demonstrate why I think Mrs. Flood is Susan Foreman (aka The Doctor's Granddaughter, aka The Unearthly Child, aka The Boss, aka The One Who Waits).

I know, I know. Not exactly the hottest take out there.

But buckle in, cause this goes deep.

Getting this out of the way first: I know this season has been billed as a bit of a fresh start (what with calling it Season 1, and all) and thus people are wary about assuming Mrs. Flood is a returning character. But let's be real. Just look at the 60th anniversary specials. Ya know, the massive 3 parter whose plot has set everything in motion for this next season.

They feature The 14th Doctor (aka The 10th Doctor revamped) with Donna Noble and her family (from the 2000's), Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (from the 2010's) who is both the current leader of UNIT (from Classic Who) and the daughter of The Brigadier: original leader of UNIT (throughout all of Classic Who), The Meep (from a Classic Who comic strip of all things) The Toymaker (Classic Who) and Mel (Classic Who).

And that's just the characters. Never mind the near constant references to both New and Classic Who.

They made it appealing and approachable to new viewers, sure. But they've already proven they're not actually interested in distancing themselves from the show's past.

So why do I think she's Susan, specifically?

Well, for starters, although the age of an actress doesn't really mean much in a 60 yr old time-travel show that's already had (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT SEEN THE 11TH DOCTOR'S EPISODES!!) a parent-child dynamic where the daughter is not just played by an actress who's noticably older than the parents, but also canonically met the doctor first, despite her parents being the primary companions, (and each of them are played by both adult and child actors). But Anita Dobson is 74. Which would have made her 14/15 when the show started in 1963. Around the same age Susan Foreman is supposed to be/appear.

But again, that doesn't really mean anything in this show. So why else would I think she's Susan? And why do I think this means she's also The Boss mentioned by the Meep, AND The One Who Waits mentioned by The Toymaker?

Well, because I think it all falls into place with some of the big themes they've been pushing in the episodes so far, if she's Susan.

I mean, from what I know of Susan, she was a refugee from Galifrey, with her grandfather, The Doctor. As far as we know, he's her only family. He'd basically been raising her until she caught feelings for a human guy, so The Doctor decided she'd be better off staying on Earth. Effectively abandoning his very traumatized teenage granddaughter in 1960's London. It wasn't malicious, he was trying to do what's best for her. But he still left her there against her will and never came back for her.

So she's an orphaned teenage refugee, raised in a high-tech alien culture, stuck in the 1960's, with her first major crush as her primary confidant and caregiver. Let's be real. She'd have been deemed a mentally unstable minor, and at best institutionalized, at worst dissected/studied, in a heartbeat (or rather, two heartbeats (a surprise tool that'll help us later)).

So here we have a woman who's likely been drugged and tortured ("psychotherapy" in the 1960s, am I right?), gaslit, and desperately isolated for a significant portion of her life. With a massive list of reasons to both deeply resent and have seriously dissociated from The Doctor and the TARDIS.

And now we finally get to the new episodes:

The Meep says that creatures with two hearts are so rare that it can't wait to tell The Boss about The Doctor. So we have The Meep, who just happened to pick Earth to "crash land" on, answering to a nameless Boss who's on the lookout for 2 hearted creatures. Thus, we're looking for someone with both a connection to Earth and intimate knowledge of Timelord biology.

The Toymaker says even he didn't dare face The One Who Waits. Which says a lot, considering the importance and prevalence of people described as Waiting with a capitol W.

(MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE 10TH and 11TH DOCTOR'S EPISODES!!) Off the top of my head, I can think of Jack Harkness aka The Face of Boe who waited billions of years to see The Doctor again. We have Amy Pond aka The Girl Who Waited, and Rory Williams aka The Boy Who Waited. We even have Sara Jane Smith, who's first real conversation with the The Doctor after finding him again had her admitting she'd spent her whole adult life waiting for him to come back. So to be The One Who Waited, above and beyond all others? You'd have to have somehow waited more than the rest. And when you're already talking about Waiting upwards of 5 Billion years, that's tough to do. Unless you're looking at it from The Doctor's perspective. And the Granddaughter he'd abandoned 15 lifetimes ago would absolutely fit that bill.

So we have an individual who is intelligent/knowledgeable enough to be called The Boss by an alien kapable of mind control and space flight, who's searching for creatures with 2 hearts. Who's earned the title of The One Who Waits, above so many other candidates.

And we just so happen to meet a character who's being played by an actress the same age Susan should be.

Speaking of, we can finally look at Mrs. Flood herself. When I first watched the episode, it struck me just how angry she was at seeing the TARDIS. When it's far more normal to see people ignoring the thing. So her reaction is weird, both in general, and for a character the actress herself described as a friendly neighbor lady.

It's only after she's utterly shocked by the TARDIS disappearing in front of her that she starts acting different. As if seeing that unlocked her memories. From there on out, she's a different person who knows exactly what's going on. She even addresses the audience at the end and knows to call it a TARDIS. Which Susan of all people would know, as Susan claimed to have come up with the acronym herself, during her time with the 1st Doctor (whether that's technically canon or not, idk).

It's also worthy to note, that if you look at the houses during the scene where she's complaining about the TARDIS, you'll see that on the outside, her house, while the most extravagantly decorated outside, is noticably stark and empty inside, unlike each of the other houses where you can clearly see decorations through the windows. Not to mention, her door is the only one that looks like the TARDIS. The other doors are either the wrong shade, or style, or both. And her's is the only one that doesn't have stairs going to the second level. I don't know how much of this is just working within the confines of the location, and how much is intentional, or what it would mean, but we see enough wide shots of the house fronts, it seems potentially relevant.

So if Mrs. Flood is, in fact, Susan Foreman, she's exactly the right age, she'd have had more than enough reason to be triggered by the sight of the TARDIS, more than enough intelligence/knowledge to reach Boss status in her search for a rare two-hearted creature and being The Doctor's Granddaughter, could absolutely intimidate The Toymaker, and have more than enough claim to the title of The One Who Waited.

And if she turned out to be a future Big Bad, she would have the trauma, reasoning, skillset, and intelligence to truly challenge The Doctor and force him to deal with the repercussions of his habit of never stopping or looking back at his actions or mistakes.

We've never seen if Susan can regenerate as far as I'm aware, but we know she's a Timelord and significantly younger than The Doctor. So if she can, the actress has already suggested that Mrs. Flood will go through quite a transformation throughout future episodes. We might be seeing the birth of a new antagonist for a new generation of the show.

Honorable Mention: I feel like The Boss is right up there with The Doctor and The Master. And RTD would absolutely make The Boss a bada** boss babe.

I found your blog through the one piece posts and now need to learn anything I can about this obscure fandom

An ISFD ask from someone who isn't already lost in the sauce? (<-Self call-out) O glorious day!

Gosh, there's so much, I don't really know where to start. I've been following this micro-fandom for YEARS now, and it's one of those things that just keeps on giving. The amount of lost/missing content and the frickin nuked forum (I'm a survivor, baebee!!) really does sometimes make it feel like the universe is trying to wipe us out, but hey. ISFD fans are basically cockroaches. Killable in theory, but surprisingly hearty in an actual life or death of a fandom scenario.

As for the actual content of ISFD that I engage in, I'm a rare(?) case where I kinda dabble in everything. I can confidently say I'm a member of the ** original ** gen of fans, so I've been around for the noteable eras, and have obsessed over every major character group at one time or another, as well as some niche characters (Cyan and his 2 other fans, rise up 🔥🔥)

I gotta say though, I am currently obsessed with the mafia portion of the universe (and, tbh, by extension, the Marama family. They are to me what the Kardashians are to some)

In particular, Phillip Varic has been my consistent blorbo since last September. It is not an exaggeration to say I've averaged about 40 drawings of him a month since then (my friends and I have counted. I should be on my strange addiction at this point, tbh. Or seeking other professional insight)

Here's some of the doodles in question! I am not terribly good at finishing art of him, I just sketch him loosely and rotate him rapidly in my head

I just think he's so neat. And I think his stupid, codependant, and mildly dysfunctional mafia found-family are so neat. And I think his husband (seraphine) and wife (abram) are so neat. And all his kids, both the legal kids and the ones whom he mostly just pays college tuition for, they're neat to. And the echos of Magnolia throughout his life and the larger narrative, even decades later. That's also very neat (my heart doesn't hurt at all!)

I realize I kinda derailed from answering your original ask because the mafia brainrot is debilitating and chronic, but I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about answering it anyway because there is just. So, so much world and lore to glean from ISFD, and none of it in any easy or direct way. Honestly though? The mafia might not be a bad place to start? If you want, I can tell you as much as I know about the cast and dynamics of the mafia, because I feel like a lot of the mafia character's lore and backgrounds act as a good segway to other noteable aspects of the larger ISFD narratives and the in-world political climate as a whole (Especially Mask and Howard. Not to single those poor souls out, but genuinely. How are they both gonna be so afflicted by the narrative like that)

Bolt!

I have been informed that a certain Disney movie came out 15 years ago today! So for that, I decided I wanted to post this older piece of a certain dog that happens to be the lead role in said movie :]

For anyone who doesn't know, Bolt, both the movie and the character, hold a very very special place in my heart. I loved the movie ever since I saw it for the first time as a kid, but it really came into a whole new realm once I rediscovered/fixated on it during a very difficult time in my life, starting in March of 2020. During that spring and summer especially was a really hard time for me, and Bolt really helped me get through it.

I don't kin characters but Bolt is probably what would be considered closest to that for me. I really relate to his journey of self-discovery throughout the movie and finding out who he is, because I was going through a lot of the same stuff at that time. I love all of the other characters of course, and the found family dynamic especially, but he will always be my favorite <3

For awhile, I also collected a bunch of Bolt merch during 2020 and 2021, mostly plushies, of which I have 7, plus one of both Mittens and Rhino. Perhaps I'll share those another time but they're all still with me and live on my bed. Two of them in fact, my original smaller one and one of my two big ones, come with me to my college dorm. So plainly, they are still very important to me.

Bolt is still a big comfort character of course as well, although within the last year, he's taken a more backseat role behind Jenny. He's still there for sure, hence why I have my cc: Bolt tag haha. It will always be my favorite Disney movie too. I know it's not perfect, but there's a distinction between "favorite" and "best" for a reason yknow.

Some '3 From Hell' Sibling HC's if you joined the Firefly Family

If they weren't the ones to bring you into the family:

- Otis would be the hardest to warm up to:

Unless you two are a couple or something and or he's the one that brought you into the family; he is gonna tolerate you only. The man has trust issues and contempt for most people and humanity as a whole. You ain't special. In fact, he'll remind you how unspecial you are everyday till you prove otherwise.

- Foxy is gonna be the most chill with you:

Even if one of his siblings brought you into the family; Foxy's just laid back and chill like that. Even if he's a con artist at heart and will manipulate you then watch your reactions for some 'test' to prove your worth in this family...He's still pretty okay with you overall. May not always be the most friendly but he's not hostile like Otis or in your face like Baby. In fact, if you don't annoy him he might even tell Otis 'C'mon Whitey, they ain't that bad. Let 'em stay for fuckin' entertainment purposes if anything.'

- If you're a pretty woman/female presenting; It's 50/50 whether Baby would like you right away or dislike you out of jealousy at first:

Unless she brought you in of course; Baby can be a loose canon on how she treats someone especially someone her brothers brought into the family and ESPECIALLY another pretty girl like her. Because let's face it; our girl is a bit of a pick me at times. She craves attention and won't hesitate to put other women in their place like she did Mary in Ho1000C to remind these women she's better than them and she could take their man in a heartbeat. She whispered to her Daddy Cutter in Devil's Rejects 'what a skank!' while giggling about the sexworker trying to hook up with Otis at Charlie's Ranch. She grew up the only girl in a family that cattered to her because of how angelic and beautiful she was. She can have anyone she wants and is use to all eyes on her. The only positive female interaction we've ever seen is the brunette sexworker at Charlie's Ranch with them dancing together and in the tub later. Then Bela in 3 from Hell that wanted to hook up (And I suppose we see her partying with the other two sexworkers in that psychedelic montage).

So she COULD be elated and look at you as the sister she never had, want you for herself and give some competition to her brother(s), or she could also dislike you getting any attention over her in public especially if you're pretty and girly like she is. If the latter, she'd treat you just as hateful as she does her female victims and make snide remarks until she gets over it or warms up to you.

If you're masc presenting, male or nonbinary or hate to say it but she doesn't view you as pretty (I'd cry) she probably just accepts you're here and trys to warm up to you like Foxy does. Just a bit friendlier than Foxy.

- If you're drastically younger than them they treat you like a kid:

(Under 27/ A decade younger than Baby and 2 decades younger then Otis and Foxy)

• Baby pinches your cheeks and makes 'Aw, you poor innocent child!' remarks with a grin if you don't instantly get a dirty joke.

• Foxy is gesturing to you telling his siblings 'Hey, YN is in here. Watch your language.' just to fuck with you.

• Otis makes jokes at your expense or says shit like 'My God, what are you? Fuckin 12?' but that also means they're all VERY Protective of you as the 'youngest sibling'.

- If they're close enough to make you a member of the family then they are EXTREMELY protective of you:

They all are fine with you having a good time. After all, family motto 'let's get fucked up and do fucked up shit' so unless you're their partner; they're cool with it. Hell, even if you are they're partner I could see them being okay with a possible open relationship. Either one depending on your relationship dynamics...But if someone is making unwanted moves on you and coming on too strong they are glaring them down.

• Foxy has his chin up and a death glare as he towers over whoever is too close and makes a firm remark to back off.

• Otis is straight up going to insult them and threaten them in the meanest way he can.

• Baby is latched onto you the entire night or dragging you along no matter who you are to her partner or just a sibling. She'll threaten some bitch or asshole being mean to you with a huge smile and her knife.

• Foxy has a habit of being the last to enter a room with his shotgun slung over his shoulder so he also puts his hand on your back and guide you inside protectively.

• Otis is the first one to watch your drink and make sure no one gets near it.

• Baby has an arm around you all night long or takes your hand to go places.

• If someone like a bounty hunter of someone like another Aquarius and his gang were to harm you? Oh they ALL are going to go out of their way to make them suffer.

- Foxy urges you to watch Classic Cinema late at night with him whether you want to or not:

Tells you every actor or actress as well as the production. If you know a few vague classics like 'The Man who Laughs' or 'Metropolis' you are his new best friend. He is going to demand to know all your favorites and why you like them.

- Otis demands you know how to properly shoot a gun and throw knives because you're no good to them if you can't defend yourself:

He's actually a very patient teacher and grins at you when you get a bullseye the first time even if he teases you about 'Bout fuckin time, YN! Been out here long enough!'

- Otis gifts you your first weapon

- Baby wants family time the most and thoroughly enjoys your company:

Go on walks, eat food, talk. Regardless, she wants you with her. She was alone for 10 years in prison. Now that she has a family again she ain't letting a single moment go to waste.

- You're getting a nickname:

Whether it's a petname like Vera Ellen has as 'Angel Baby / Baby' or a shortened version of your name like Winslow Foxworth with 'Foxy' or a complete alias from a Groucho Mark's film like 'Otis B. Driftwood'...You WILL be getting a nickname they use exclusively.

- If you're pretty to her and she's fond of you, Baby calls you 'Kitty':

You don't even begin to know how much she actually cares for you or the symbolism with that petname

- If you kill, then however you kill or a character you remind him of is what Otis is calling you

- If you're unwilling to maime/torture they're surprisingly fine with it:

Sure, it does cause tension especially when you first join because they think you're like everyone else and won't fit in but as long as you're willing to kill in self defense they accept you. If you are strictly no killing at all? You're probably a pet for one of them at best because no member of their family isn't a member without being willing to get their hands dirty with murder especially in a life or death situation. But Tiny, Grandpa Hugo, RJ, Mama and Captain Spaulding/Cutter all seemed to let Baby and Otis (And whereever the Fuck Foxy was) take the sadism reigns the most while they just enjoyed the show, killed when they had to or when someone pissed them off. But RJ and Tiny We see only kill cops or when necessary, Cutter definitely kills plentifully but was annoyed with Baby and Otis torturing the girl in the motel in Devil's Rejects and spared the one woman with the boy in the parking lot. We only see Baby and Otis truly torturing victims and enjoying it thoroughly and Foxy getting a kick out of breaking a victim mentally before killing them (We never see him truly torture someone on screen like we did Baby and Otis but his sadism is definitely there).

So you wouldn't be the first family member they had to not get into heavy torture. As long as you stay out of their way, they learn to accept it. It's like a vegetarian in a family of carnivores. As long as you don't damn them for how they live; they accept you.

- Being celebrated if you do something to earn your stripes (Kill a cop, evade a highspeed chase, protect one of them when they rarely need it):

Do they ever hype you up! It feels like a right of passage that you really are family to them in this 'sick sad world' as they view it. Drinking, getting you anything you want, doing whatever you want. Foxy is smiling at you, Otis is giving you credit for once even in the form of a bullying remark and Baby is smacking you and dancing around while cheering you on.

- Foxy secretly being relieved you're there even if he doesn't show it:

He's left out quite a bit because of the bond Otis and Baby have and he's the third wheel. (He gives forgotten middle child vibes I swear) so having a fourth 'sibling' is great to him especially if you both get along because he doesn't feel as left out. If you're a couple that's even better!

If you're Romantic with a member (Or members 👀) of the Firefly Family:

- Foxy is the biggest hopeless romantic followed by Baby then Otis:

• Foxy quoted Quasimodo to woo Bela like it was nothing. He adores old cinema and what are those classic films without romance? He may be one of the toughest, sadistic, egotistical guys you'll ever meet but if you're his he is very romantic towards you; at least in private. (Loyalty as far as not cheating is iffy ngl all 3 of them that's debatable) but out of all of them he is the one to call his partner oetnames. Some might be sexual like 'ass cakes' like he called Bela but there's definitely ones like doll or sweetheart or darlin' or even putting 'my' in front of every petname just to seal the deal (My sweet girl. My darlin. My baby. My boy... Mine.) He's also very aware of how to woo you and secretly craves the praise and attention you give him. He likes to be playful when flirting and doesn't like too sappy of a relationship but in private he's willing to lay it out there how much he cares about you. Don't expect too much PDA though or a date. But a private 'date' in the woods, at a lake, or at home; sure!

• Baby is romantic but not in a sappy way. Her romance with a partner is more teenage romance. Think her surprising you with tiny gifts, teasing you while kissing you, calling you both sweet petnames and mocking juvenile nicknames too. Like, you're both 'her kitty' and 'poopy pants' just because. She loves scarying you or rough housing with you and then being the one to hang all over and comfort you afterwards. She just likes to keep things light hearted and exciting at all times. She loves to tease you and flirt. She's a playful bully in a relationship and wants you flustered. Constantly asks 'Are you flirting with me? Is this a date? Aw, are you blushing? Are you checking me out?' with a smirk no matter what your answer is.

• Otis is the least romantic. His romance is just touch or a straight forward 'I want you'. He's creative, yes, but he's not one to write sonnets or paint you something. If anything, he may gift you some belt he made of snakeskin or a skull of an animal he cleaned up. Something that matches his morbid hobbies so he doesn't feel 'sappy'. Never expect a fancy necklace or roses because you ain't getting them. But a knife or a skull or a necklace with a vial of his blood is very doable. Depending on your gender; He calls you 'Mama' or 'Boy' or 'Babe' and that's about it. Might throw in 'Suga' or 'Honey' here and there. His 'date' is him half joking in a mocking way and it's just hanging out with him while he does something.

- They all 3 crave a playful partner or at least one with a sense of humor:

• Baby NEEDS a playful partner. Period. End of. She has to have a partner that's willing to get into tickle fights and wrestle and have playfights and pull pranks on each other and make fun of her brothers with her and go on crazy adventures together. If you're not playful, she won't even be into you.

• Otis doesn't need it for a relationship to function but it is appreciated. A sense of humor that's a bit dark is a must but playfulness is nice too. He's use to Baby's pestering and playfighting so if anything you playfighting with him just gets him to not be so grumpy and loosen up a bit. If you annoy him too much he can just hold you down and punish you in a very fun way.

• Foxy is a slightly 'less' version of Baby but he really needs a partner that can have fun. He is constantly smiling at Baby's antics in the movie and a partner is no different. He loves you cracking a joke, even a bad one. He loves you poking him or trying to get him to give chase to you. Even if he tries to be serious and tell you 'Goddamn, stop it.' he still has a smirk on his face. If you keep up poking or tickling or smacking him or something he is coming after you to give it right back to you tenfold with a sadistic smirk on his face.

- None of them care about an age gap if you're more than 10 years younger than them:

• Baby still views herself as young (And honestly she still is at 37 even if it's not young young) and will literally fuck someone up if they bring up the fact she's nearing 40 or you both have a 10 year age gap. If they say 'Is that your Mom/Older Sister/Aunt?' she is getting pissy and ready to gut them because they think she looks that old?!

• Otis is the eldest at 59 and doesn't care about societies norms. You can be 30+ years younger than him and he does not care. If someone says something, he's definitely crudely making some remark about how well you fuck him as an adult while wrapping an arm around you. If someone asks 'Is this your Dad?' he is definitely smirking and telling them 'I'm they're Daddy but I ain't they're motherfuckin father.'

• Foxy is somewhere in his late 40's to 50's in between Otis and Baby if I had to guess. He knows he's older than you and like Otis he doesn't care. Hell, sometimes it's a turn on. If someone asks 'Is that your Dad?' he is fucking with them by agreeing he is and then kissing you passionately and then saying something like 'Honey, call your mom and sister and tell them we're gonna be late for dinner. You know how your mother gets when her hubby and youngest are late.' just to smirk at the horrified look on the persons face.

- They're all possessive partners in different ways:

• Otis is the most possessive partner out of his 3 siblings. He is so use to leading the entire Firefly Family (Prime example was him telling Hugo in Ho1000C 'I'll just go around back and take control like I always fuckin do!') so he naturally is both protective and possessive of a person that accepts him enough to be with him. There is no 'breaking up'...EVER. He doesn't bond with many people and he isn't letting you go or letting anyone else interfere. He might even start telling you if an outfit 'makes you look like a hooker' or if you 'were fucking drooling over some asshole' if he's pissed off enough over men looking at you because he can't admit he's the one jealous here but you giving him the okay to kill anyone that flirts with you or convincing him (Firmly. Otis is not going to listen unless you match energy with him) then it would probably solve a lot of his underlying fear you're looking for a way out. But he is still going to keep you close in public to make sure no one gets too handsy in bars. Hate to say it but it might be years before he fully trust you just because in his line of 'work' he can't afford to trust people. He's not going to aimlessly kill every guy that looks at you but if they touch you? Something is happening to them.

• Foxy is about like Otis but not as intense. In fact, he's probably fine with whatever you wear or someone flirting with you as a means to have an excuse to have some intense possessive sex with you later where he makes you repeat you're his. But he's more open about his insecurity than Otis not because of sex or looks but because he genuinely has a hard time understanding why you're in love with a man like him. Especially if you treat him well despite seeing the fucked up shit he's done. He probably asks you all the time 'Babydoll, what the fuck are ya doin' with me?'. Will most definitely give a glare to anyone trying to put their hands on you and shuts that shit down immediately. If they get too pushy he's gonna smolder and wait all night before killing them outside their car when everyone is gone.

• Baby is the least possessive outwardly but she gets jealous the most. You can wear what you want, dance how you want, shit you could even flirt with someone if you want to as long as you're with her. But if the flirting gets too intimate she is killing them. Unlike Foxy who is going to try and keep his cool at first or Otis who has to be pushed a bit too far before planning a kill in public ...Baby is straight up killing them not caring if she gets caught. She is instantly luring whoever touched your ass or tried to kiss you or was flirting with you too much outside where she's going to leave one hell of a mess. Then she's going to smile, kiss you and cheerfully ask 'where to now, honey?' and she's not going to even mention that she killed that person unless you REALLY push her. Because if you ask where that person went? She's dropping the smirk, showing you and letting you know THAT is what happens when someone tries to take what's hers.

Wizards Of Waverly Place - Family Business

So, guess what favourite sit-com of my childhood I have rewatched together with @hamliet?

Wizards of Waverly Place has always had a special place in my heart, but by rewatching it I have realized it is better written than I thought...

Of course, it is unapologetically a kids' show + a parody, so there are not overly intricated plotlines nor incredibly deep psychological explorations. It is sometimes silly with no shame. Moreover, I think 1 specific plotline (Stevie's) and some character moments (Justin's) could have been better handled.

That said, it has a great thematic heart which offers many touching moments together with hilarious characterization and honestly brilliant worlbuilding ideas. I really really love the tongue in cheeck worldbuilding of this series. It takes all the most common fantasy tropes and re-frames them in the context of an American family drama. The feeling is that of a discounted fantasy world, which is perfect as the set of very mundane problems like... how can I cheat at school? Or how can I have a guy fall for me?

The result is a series which pokes fun at Harry Potter, Twilight, Monster Hunter, but also at Romeo And Juliet, The Addams Family, The Devil Wears Prada and much more.

Here are some thoughts on the main themes + characters.

FAMILY - THE MAIN THEME

Wizards of Waverly Place is a show about family. In particular:

It tells the story of a family of wizards

It's set in the Waverly Substation - the family sandwich shop

This premise and this set are used to drive home the theme. The Substation itself may be secondary to the main plot, but it is still key in several episodes. Thematically, it is the home of the Russos and it represents the family ideals of sticking together, despite it all.

All being mostly magic, which is both a blessing and a curse for the Russo family. On the one hand it is a secret that binds the 3 siblings, as it lets them go through exciting adventures together. On the other hand only one of them can keep their powers in the end, which makes them all competitors for the same prize.

With the Wizard Competition in the background, we go through several episodes and plotlines, which explore different family dynamics:

DJ who uses magic to mind control his parents and do what he wants

Hugh Normous, who is happily adopted in his family of Giants

Ronald Longcape Jr, who has a legacy of Evil to honor

Stevie who chooses her powers over her beloved brother and ruins their relationship

Felix, a delinquent who turns a new leaf and discovers himself the descendant of the greatest wizard of all times

Up until the family of our protagonists, which itself has been shattered by magic.

Jerry, the father and head of the family, is the winner of his generation's family competition. Still, he gives up magic to stay with his mortal wife Theresa and they have Justin, Alex and Max (the main characters). Jerry also chooses to give his powers to his brother Kelbo, which leaves their sister Meghan with a grudge. Jerry, Kelbo and Meghan are never able to repair their bond and the risk for Justin, Max and Alex is to repeat their story. After all:

Justin is the lawful star student who is expected to inherit the power (Jerry)

Alex is the artsy lazy delinquent who often acts selfishly (Meghan)

Max is the weird airhead, who is difficult to understand (Kelbo)

So, will the Russo siblings repeat the previous generation's mistakes or will they keep their family bond intact throughout the Wizard Competition?

ALEX AND JUSTIN - THE BEATING HEART OF THE STORY

Alex and Justin are respectively the protagonist and deuteragonist, with their bond being the most important one of the series. Superficially, they are opposites:

Alex is an underachiever, impulsive and a rule breaker. She often uses magic selfishly and ends up in trouble

Justin is a hard-worker, lawful and a stick in the mud. He studies hard for the wizard competition and likes following rules

And yet, they are deep down the same, as they are both jealous of the other:

Alex is jealous of Justin's academic successes and is tired of being compared to him. Initially, she thinks she can't compete with him and barely tries

Justin is jealous of Alex , who is loved by their parents, despite her flaws. He sees her as the family little girl and believes that if he were not perfect, others would love him less than her

Deep down, they are both unsure of who they are and crave recognition. Still, they really have to learn from the other:

Alex must grow more responsible and put in the effort, like Justin

Justin must try new things and even break the rules for others' sake, like Alex

This is why their relationship becomes key for both of their developments. On the one hand Alex keeps getting into trouble with magic. On the other hand Justin comes to her rescue and helps her out. In this way, Alex learns from her mistakes and Justin gets to gain life experiences. At the same time, they show each other they care. Alex can openly rely on Justin and Justin can step in as the protective big brother. They usually get on each other's nerves and bicker, but in these moments they know the other cares.

This is their initial dynamic, which slowly changes as they both grow. This growth happens also because of important romantic bonds.

Justin and Juliet - Moving on

Justin and Juliet's story is just Romeo and Juliet told in reverse, where Romeo gets the chance to overcome his flaw and Juliet is a vampire (queen).

Justin and Juliet's story starts with their love solving the feud between their 2 families' sandwich shops

It goes on with Juliet's (first) "death". The two lovers end up trapped and Justin (Romeo) convinces Juliet to have herself mind-controlled by an evil mummy to survive the rise of the sun. However, Alex arrives 5 minutes later to free Justin. Just like in the tragedy, if Justin had just waited nothing would have happened

Here it comes Justin and Juliet's reunion, which soon becomes a second and more final separation. Juliet loses her vampire powers and grows old, so she urges Justin to move on from her

Justin takes some time, but finally falls for another girl. He starts dating Rosie. Rosie is a twist on Rosaline, Romeo's first love interest (here she is the second), who is the archetype of the classical angelic woman. Well, Rosie is literally an angel, but an angel of darkness and she influences Justin to join the dark side :P. Eventually, though, Rosie and Justin's love redeems them. Still, Justin chooses to let Rosie go, as she needs to fulfill her role as an angel and to look over mortals

Finally, Justin meets Juliet again, as she is mind controlled by the demon Gorog (basically Satan). Juliet is once again possessed by a malicious creature and Justin is once again asked to join the dark side for love. Still, he is able to resist this time and together with his siblings he defeats Gorog and reunites with Juliet

Metaphorically, Justin's journey is clear. He needs to learn that sometimes no matter how much he tries, bad things happen and he isn't getting what he wants. He tries hard to be a hero, but only ends up losing Juliet. Later on, he is so scared to lose the girl he loves again that he gives up his morals. So, he has to accept sometimes loss can't be helped. That said, if he keeps on trying and is loyal to his principles and to others, life will find a way to reward him. He just has to make the right moral choice in the end.

Alex and Mason - Putting in the effort

Alex and Mason are an inversion of Beauty and Beast. In the Disney Fairy Tale, Beauty changes the Beast in a beautiful Prince. Here, Alex (Beauty) has to accept Mason (Beast) for who he is. A Werewolf.

Alex and Mason meet and fall in love. Still, Alex gets annoyed by Mason's drawings of dogs (an early hint to Mason's werewolf nature). She gets embarassed by them and charms Mason to become his new Muse. Things get awry as Mason can only think about drawing Alex, which results in their relationship getting compromised. Eventually, Alex accepts Mason's strange art and the two move forward in their relationship

Alex discovers Mason is a Werewolf, but the 2 break up over Mason's instinctual declaration of love to Juliet. Mason doesn't love Juliet and his words are once again the result of his werewolf nature Alex struggles to understand. The following confusion leads to Mason turning into a wolf and leaving

Alex finds Mason and saves him in what is a Beauty and Beast call back. Still, Mason is stuck as a half wolf and Alex is embarassed. Before she can have him back as fully human, she has to accept his beast part

Alex drops out from the wizard competition, which means she and Mason can't be together, as it would be too dangerous. Still, they love each other and Alex decides to give the competition another try to stay together with Mason

Alex gets back into the competition, but a beast tamer called Chase keeps flirting with her and symbolically brings out the Beast in Mason (jealousy). Alex dislikes this side of Mason and breaks up with him

Eventually, Alex and Mason meet again and realize they still have feelings for each other, so they choose to get back together despite their respective flaws

The point of Alex and Mason's story is that a perfect Prince Charming does not exist. If Alex wants to be in a real relationship, she should accept the other's flaws, find compromises and finally put in some effort. She can't turn the beast into a prince, but must become herself a wizard to stand beside the werewolf.

In other words, Justin and Alex's developments are opposite. Justin learns he can't always get what he wants through sheer effort and Alex discovers that a little effort is needed to reach a goal.

GIVE ME A MAX

Max's development is less fleshed out than his siblings', but it is still there. If Alex and Justin compete over the role of favourite child, Max is definately the family unfavourite. He is the odd one out. As he himself says, he is not as clever as Justin nor as devious as Alex. Everybody compares him to them and sets up a standard he can't reach.

His journey, then, has him find his own path through two opposite love interests:

The first one is a girl, who is exactly like him. Still, he lies to her and loses her

The second one (Talia) is his complete opposite. Once again, he lies out of fear of losing her.

Eventually, Max comes clean to Talia and they realize their complementarity is something that enriches them, rather than an obstacle.

At the same time, Max shows he can be just as smart as his siblings. He briefly takes the lead in the Wizard Competition and saves Alex and Justin in the final battle against Gorog. Even in the final Wizard Tournament, he performs rather well. He doesn't need to be someone else. He has his own set of talents that make him unique.

HARPER - THE FOUND SISTER

True, there are only 3 Wizards in the Russo family, but Harper clearly steps in as another sister to Alex, Justin and Max.

Harper is Alex's best friend and the first human who is revealed the Russos' secret. With time, she gets more and more involved in the family dynamics until Alex openly calls her a sister and Jerry and Theresa adopt her.

Harper is Alex's moral pet and she is the one who brings out the troublemaker's most selfless and heroic traits. She is also the one who trusts Alex the most among all the characters. Justin represents Alex's bond to the wizard world and her biological family. Harper instead represents Alex's bond to the human world and her found family.

Still, Harper is not a sister to only Alex, but also to Max and Justin. Her relationship with Justin, especially, is nicely fleshed out and developed. She initially crushes on him pretty hard and slowly starts to move on, as she grows close to Zeke (Justin's best friend). Eventually, she becomes Zeke's girlfriend and this development marks a substantial change in her and Justin's dynamic.

This shift is shown in Moving On, one of my favourite episodes. Justin is still fixed on Juliet and refuses to go out with other girls. Harper, then, asks Alex to transform her into Juliet, so that she can convince Justin to let go. The end result is that Harper ends up in a date with Justin, which is her childhood dream come true. Eventually, though, Harper reveals herself and convinces Justin to move on. The whole scene is framed as both Harper letting go of Justin and Justin accepting Harper's advice to meet new girls. By the end of it, their dynamic becomes that of a pair of siblings. There is love, but it is familial.

Finally, Harper's relationship with Zeke is what drives Justin to tell his best friend the family secret. This in itself is an important moment in Alex and Justin's foiling:

Alex reveals the truth to Harper pretty early on. She does so as proof of their friendship, even if it is an important violation of the wizard rules. Alex shows she is determined to do what is morally right pretty early on. No matter if it can be damaging for her

Justin reveals the truth to Zeke towards the end. He is initially strongly opposed to it, as he and Alex have fallen behind in the competition precisely for exposing wizardly. However, by seeing how the family secret is ruining both the relationship between Alex and Harper and that between Zeke and Harper, he chooses to bring Zeke into the loop

In short, Harper is a key character for both Alex and Justin's developments and becomes the second daughter of the Russo family.

GENERATION XEROX - THE BIGGEST TWIST OF THE SERIES

As the series goes on, Alex and Justin's dynamic starts to change:

Alex grows more responsible and becomes better at using magic for which she has a natural disposition. Not only that, but her heroic traits start to surface more and more, especially when her loved ones (Justin, Harper and Mason) are involved

Justin starts showing his jealousy and his selfish side more. He realizes Alex needs him less and that he is not always the best among his siblings. On the contrary, he too messes up and does so royally

So, Alex shows her positive traits, while Justin displays his flaws. The Final Wizard Competition is built on this.

Initially, the viewers are bound to believe the final round focuses on Alex's development. After all, the episode starts with Alex performing a selfless act for the family. Later on, she quickly falls behind in points and then she convinces Justin and Max to leave the competition to help Harper and Zeke, which results in them all losing their powers. So, it is apparently Alex's duty to fix things, so that she can prove she is good enough to be the family wizard. Except this is really not true.

It turns out the disqualification is really a test for Justin (and Max) to forgive Alex. That is because Alex has already finished her development by the end. She has proven she is selfless at heart, when it counts. Not only that but she has saved the world and her family multiple times already. The one falling behind is really Justin. He is the one struggling to accept his siblings may be better than him at magic. He is the one who risks to break the family.

This is the real twist of the series. Initially, viewers are tricked to believe Justin is Jerry and Alex is Meghan. However, it becomes clear by the end that everything is not what it seems:

Alex has her father's big heart. Jerry has to give up magic for Theresa, while Alex has to win the competition for Mason. Moreover, she always prioritizes her family, even if it goes against her interests or the rules

Justin can be selfish, like his aunt. Meghan resents Jerry because he chooses Kelbo over her. In her eyes, this means her hard work is never aknowledged by her siblings. Similarly, Justin is the one who puts in the most effort in magic and wants this investment to pay off

So, Justin is tested to see if he can take a different path from his aunt. He succeeds and after some struggle the competition is resumed. By this point, Alex and Justin's difference becomes clear:

Alex is bad at theory, but she is great at practical magic. Not only that, but she racks up points in the second part of the competition because it focuses on magic used in the second part of the series. By then, Alex has become better at magic and less dependent on Justin

Justin is great at theory, but falls behind Alex when it comes to applying magic. He takes the lead in the first part of the tournament because it covers magic in early episodes, where his help was asked by Alex more

In the end, Alex performs better than Justin, but goes back to help him, which results in Justin's technical win. Once again, the narrative asks Justin which kind of person he is gonna become. Will he choose the wizard power or his bond with his sister? This is the same choice Stevie had to make btw. She chooses the powers and leaves her brother behind. Justin instead chooses what's right. He admits Alex was better than him and gives her the powers, so that she can be with Mason.

Alex proves her talent and shows she has more than enough heart to be the family wizard. Justin recognizes his limits, but sticks to what's right and is rewarded with full wizardly and his dream job at Wiztech. All 3 siblings get what they want:

Alex becomes the family wizard. Still, differently from Kelbo she has gained the title through effort and talent. Moreover, she can be with the love of her life

Justin becomes the principal of Wiztech. He leaves the family, just like Meghan. However, his bonds with his siblings are stronger than ever

Max becomes the owner of the Waverly Substation, just like Jerry. He ends up with the most down to heart approach to life, despite being often considered as the most over the top among his siblings. He shows instead he can be practical and smart

HEART, MIND AND BODY

Alex, Justin and Max's endings mirror their roles as heart, mind and body characters.

Alex is the heart of the family. She fights to keep the family together and when push comes to shove she prioritizes her loved ones. This is why she inherits the family magic. She is the embodyment of the family spirit.

Justin is the mind of the family. His knowledge comes in handy multiple times and he is the one the family goes to when there is some kind of crisis. He becomes a professor, so he can spread his knowledge to other people.

Max is the body of the family. He is often associated with food and fittingly becomes the owner of the Family Business. Not only that, but the sandwich shop is where the Russos' lair is. As it is pointed out several times, the lair is key for wizards. So, Max is entrusted with the physical domain of the Russos' magic. He may not be a wizard, but he is still key for the family.

All together, the 3 siblings make a unit, which is why the most powerful magic in the series is the one they use to defeat Gorog. As professor Crumbs explains, it is a charm, which is possible to perform only by 3 wizards siblings. Given how often wizards families are shattered, it is poignant it is such a rare and powerful spell. The Russos are able to use it because they will always choose each other over magic.

10 BEST Low Heat BLs - Soft & Sweet (Safe to Watch with Parents)

Not sure I am the right one to answer since I'm the opposite of a prude but I'll give it my best shot. Please keep in mind that these are romances, so there will be at least a kiss (in most of them), I'm thinking Disney level, so they might also be okay for kids, but as I always say with kids, you know your kid best, you have to judge what they are okay to watch.

1. Cherry Magic

AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho

Japan 2020 - CrunchyRoll or Fan Subbed

The sweetest fluffiest magical realism BL, packaged as a pinning office romance, very low heat (practically chaste) but the cutest. It’s truly great. It’s not in my top 10 of all time list simply because the heat level is too low for me, personally.

No kisses for the leads, side couple kiss is v dead fish.

2. Light On Me

Korea 2021 - Viki

Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screen… and I don’t like love triangles. LonM strategically tailors classic BL tropes to 2 different semes resulting in pristine pacing, plot, and character development, explicitly serving narrative a-not just to tick boxes. LoM is a master class in this technique. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.) Full review.

Very low heat, Korea in peak chaste form (pre their 2022 “oh, boys can kiss” epiphany). But there is dildo humor.

3. My Love Mix Up

AKA Vanishing My First Love AKA Kieta Hatsukoi

Japan 2021 - Viki

Completely adorable absolute chaos bi disaster muffin falls accidentally and completely in love with his classmate, hijinx and friendship result. What’s great about this BL is that it deals with things like homophobia, asexuality, and one sided affection in an extremely gentle and palatable way. Perhaps sometimes too subtle, but I believe this is a great show for younger audiences, particularly if you want to spark conversations about identity, sexuality, authority, truthfulness, and consent. Oh and it’s funny.

No kissing at all.

4. Seven Days: Monday-Thursday & Friday-Sunday

Japan 2015 - grey

Never doubt my ability to recommend this show. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL).

The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses.

5. Wish You: Your Melody in My Heart (movie)

Korea 2020 - Viki

Set in the music industry featuring a talented singer and the pianist who falls in love with him (and his music), subtle and achingly adorable. High production, low heat, short run, very tame, and Korea, so more of a western style. It’s not the most logical story though. No coming out, exists in the “Korean BL bubble universe” where everything is just fine and dandy with the gays.

Kisses but they tame and no sexy.

6. He’s Coming To Me

Thailand 2019 - YouTube

Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence. The third in my precious triumvirate of unbeatable Thai BLs, that are only nominally BL because the story, acting, and production values are so good. (Together with UWMA & 1k*).

One (maybe two) soft romantic kisses. Nothing else possible.

7. Restart After Come Back Home

AKA Risutato wa tadaima no ato de

Japan 2020 - grey

Atmospheric study in rural Japan meets complex family dynamics built on a romance framework of city boy meets country boy, grumpy/sunshine. It’s beautiful and icy sweet. Slow moving in places but ultimately worth the patience. Full review.

Low heat, low angst, very pretty.

8. My Ride

Thailand 2022 - GaGa

Thai BL grew up with this pulp - a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine AKA a cinnamon roll couple. Mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple. Full review.

9. Mr. Unlucky Can Only Kiss

AKA Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss! AKA Fukou-kun wa Kiss Suru Shikanai!

Japan 2022 - Viki & GaGa & indie subbed

Mr Chronically Unlucky (another adorable chaos muffin) and Mr Always Lucky end up dating after they meet at uni orientation. It’s JAPAN yet they kissed in the first episode. What freaky alt-reality did I enter into? That’s all they kiss tho, over which I was a touch disappointed. Still I spent far too much of my time with this show biting my knuckles and squealing “THEY’RE SO CUTE!” It is very slapstick Japanese style comedic (light) BL reminds me of Cherry Magic. So if you like that style of BL you’ll adore this show.

Amusing story: I paused mid the most tooth-achingly adorable first date in the entire universe and Viki was like “something missing?” and I was like “MY HEART YOU BASTARDS”

One kiss beginning and some shirtless lust.

10. What Did You Eat Yesterday

AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta?

good question! i don't think i have any canon/canon ships that i'm nearly as attached to as my oc/canon ones but hmmm off the top of my head in no particular order- (i definitely rambled too much omggg 🏃‍♂️💨💨)

ZoSan: my first introduction to OP through doujin of all things when I was younger lol, my feelings towards these characters have morphed and changed and complicated over the years (regards to Sanji in particular), I have a lot to say both good and some bad about them but at the end of the day I'll always have a soft spot for curly and marimo in this little heart of mine, they're my old reliable <3

PenShach: I'm a sucker for childhood friends to lovers lmao, they've been glued to each other's sides through hell or high water (literally, with the tsunami that killed their respective parents), having their backs when things got rough at home with Shachi's aunt and uncle, swearing their loyalty to this weird kid who both beat them up for bullying an innocent polar bear and saved their lives, stumbling ass backwards through their attractions to other people, each other, and Penguin's gender - it's a sweet idea 💕

UsoNami: kids drawn to the open sea by a dream and realizing immediately that they were WAY in over their heads but bond over being the 'weakest links' in their group despite holding immeasurable value to the SHs in their specialized skills and friendships, they've also just always had a cute kind of chemistry that I like - girlboss with the silly guy who makes her laugh (also bi4bis but aside from Usopp I think Nami would be disinterested in guys entirely)

I like SmoAce, AceSan, and DeuAce all for different reasons - smug punk getting on an older man's last nerve every single day and babygirling the hell out of him at the same time, the push and pull/taboos of a pirate x marine dynamic, how both of them are a little dissatisfied with their lot in life (constantly being on the run with no place to return to, having to answer to uncaring and at worst outright cruel higherups that cared none for what their so-called "Justice" actually meant) and find comfort in each other for what few, temporary chances they get - Sanji's bisexual awakening/the immediate angst in the wake of Marineford and what that means for the feelings he has no where to put now because Ace always said it for him (because he was too scared to on his own) - that sweet sweet first mate/captain dynamic I love 😩👌 + I kind of like the Spade pirates as they were before joining WB and all, I want to know more about the people Ace deliberately chose to surround himself with rather than the family he was adopted into

Hii! I was wondering if you’ve ever ranked the Wrong Turn movies yourself? I don’t really count the 2021 reboot cuz it doesn’t have the boys in it, but if you want to count that one you gladly do it. Also if you’ve already ranked them that’s fine and you don’t have to do it again if you don’t want to.

Promise you my dear, that 2021 movie wont be ever ranked in with the Wrong Turn franchise, I don't recognize it as part of the series either lol. But! I will do two rankings, my personal and a non-bias one Personally: 4, 2, 1, 5, 3 and 6 are my Best to Worse. I adore the 4th film, it's my favourite, my comfort movie, my baby, also its the one with the best looking One-Eye, cute as FUCK in that movie.. 2nd is also a fave, love it so much and how it brings in the new side of the family, 1st if a classic, it's the original but I do enjoy fun over seriousness, so the 2nd goes above it. Now with the not-so great side of the films, I enjoyed the 5th with its story and how they handled it as an inbetweener for the 4th and 1st films as well as enjoyed the fun kills but that's all. I'm not a fan of how they handled the characterization of my boys or Maynard, nor the designs of them it truly looked like they didn't put a lot of heart into it. The 3rd is okay and the kills cool, but it felt very bland and flat, hated the story, hated the protags, hated that Three-Toes didn't last long and it just sucked. I hate the 6th film all together, hate the designs, hate the new villains, hate the story, hate the acting, felt the kills were boring, I'd tear it up and re-do it completely if I could. Apologies to fans of this one, but it really sucks its the only horror movie I've ever skipped scenes in and I've watched some real fucking shit-ass low-budget snoozers of some horrors all the way through. The (attempted) non-bias: 1,2,4,5,3,6. The 1st is a classic, it is what brought us the Wrong Turn films and out of every one of them its the most realistic is design and story, it is simply more real in the looks of the brothers, how they are as people and the story of it all, which is what makes it scary cause they were not originally mutants with special healing and strength qualities, just really violent cannibalistic hillbilly-bastard men that could have been inbred (them being inbred is more solidified in the 2nd movie) Its simple and gritty, it stands on its own and really would be fine without the other movies which is why its S tier. The 2nd, is were it broadens the families story out more, though doesn't explain everything as there still needs to be mystery to this family, but it does bring more characters that are family members and I love that it's natural! This is where the 6th WT movie and also where some other horror movies fail when bringing in new family characters when it comes to sequels or prequels where new family members fuck up the dynamic or just make zero sense on where they relate to the original films. The 2nd film is also where it brings the more comedy side of Wrong Turn, but doesn't come off entirely strong so its easier to ease into. It also is the one that brought more lore with how they're related via incest, the involvement of Maynard as well as brought in new lore such as the idea of mutation and that they can take more damage and have more strength to them. The 4th is where we return back to the three brothers and delve into their history more, this is actually where we get a more solid idea of their ages and personalities, the three brother become fleshed out more and really feels like the movie is more about them than their victims we're supposed to be following. It's definitely the one that brought the comedy out the most and made it enjoyable, the new designs on the brothers are also still very nice though they lost their realistic-ness features it is happily not distractible and still appealing. It still has amazing kills, happily does not lack in that creativity, really a good place to find out more lore and it fits nicely in the story line as a beginning.

The 5th is a mix of good and bad, with being the inbetweener of the 4th and 1st film, it filled in the blanks of how the boys got where they are a really good idea, the story is pretty solid and can be seen as fun, it only fails in the design and handling of the characters, with most the victims being bland and boring, though some more interesting than others (the old drunk man and cop lady) but they went a different route in how the three brothers were as characters, in both looks and personalities, as well as how Maynard is in personality and character which is very different from the past films. But the cannibals change personalities is all it failed in, other than that it is a good fun movie with good deaths and a solid lore story that relates from the steps of 4-5-1-2-3. The 3rd, though meant to be the "ending" of the Hillikers/Odets family, leaving an opening of 'mystery cannibal?' at the end. It does have some really nice kills, very creative but that is where it ends. The main idea of the story, though is an idea is one that feels out of place, uninteresting and at times even frustrating. The designs have become more poorly, though is not the worse of the films, it is more a movie that doesn't give a satisfying end and at times loses your interest. It does relate to the 2nd film with having connections, so it does well with keeping up with lore.

The 6th is difficult, since it doesn't fit anywhere realistically or naturally with the 1-5 lore. The acting is poorly, the designs of the brothers are horrendous and the characteristics of the main three boys are the most different and out of place of all the films, it brings in a cult-like lore that doesn't relate nor add up to the original stories, the deaths are okay but nothing entirely creative or fun like its predecessors, neither the new killers or victims are likable or memorable.

Working hard on all my projects! That's why it took me a few days to get to this. Apologies!

Now, on to your questions! If you were looking for short answers you asked the wrong person. Abandon all hope ye who enter here!

I’ll get to the shorter answers first:

“Who do you ship?”- Let me preface this by stating that I don't really care about ships, canon or otherwise. Like… at all. It takes a LOT to make me care about a romance in any story. Luckily, MHA is an action-shonen anime, so not a lot of that going on. However, I will try to put some more thought into this topic than I usually do.

If we’re talking confirmed canon ships (discounting married couples), the only two I can even think of are Midoriya/Ochako and Denki/Jiro. I’m sure there are others, but MHA is (thankfully) very light on romance, so those two seem to be the only ones that have actually been confirmed as canon. (Forgive me if I’m wrong; I literally had to Google “canon MHA ships”.) Midoriya/Ochako is cute, and I love their dynamic. I think they'd be a good/healthy couple, but they're perfectly fine just as friends. Denki/Jiro is also sort of cute, a little more on the “belligerent sexual tension” side, but there’s not nearly as much to work with. That may be because these two don’t get as much focus as characters, I don’t know. Overall, the students in this show are more mature than their peers, so they’ve had to be more thoughtful about their futures and life decisions. They’re also still just kids. Adolescent relationships almost never last irl, and in fiction they seem to be portrayed in a similarly shallow vein, so I see no point getting invested.

If we’re talking non-canon, it’s still not my thing. I kind of low-key ship All Might/Inko Midoriya, but ONLY if Hisaishi Midoriya was out of the picture (I HATE cheating, even in fiction). That’s probably about it. I steer clear of shipping wars, so I’m not going to get into any of the other non-canon ships. I don’t care enough to paint a target on myself.

The ships I really care about are the friendships. I'm way more into those, and found family! MHA is full of both, which is one of the many reasons I love it! (If you want to know who I “ship” in terms of “friendships” I’ll post a follow-up answer for that.)

“Least favorite characters?”- I’m going to qualify my answer by setting aside characters you’re meant to dislike/hate (i.e. the villains/the Hero Safety Commission). Of those left, Mineta might be the only character I actively dislike. I think his design is fun, and his quirk is offbeat, but his personality is mostly awful. If he was a villain, or just some random background person, he wouldn’t grate as much. But Mineta is supposed to be funny and sympathetic. I don't hate him, I just... That character type (95% pervert) has never appealed to me, no matter the series. I'm glad he's gotten a bit better in the last few arcs, but it's been too little, too late for me to really like him.

I also found Monoma irritating, but he’s gotten better.

Now onto my “long” answer. You have been warned!

“Fav MHA character(s)?”- I have to say, a big part of the reason I love most of the characters in this show is the translation/VA work, as well as the animation. This may be the best English VA cast for a show I’ve ever heard, and the translation is exceptional.

Aside from that, I love (or love to hate) pretty much all the main and side characters in the whole series. I think they all have something interesting to contribute to the story, even if they’re only in one scene. On the “villain” side, Twice is arguably my favorite, but I find all the main baddies compelling, and even some of the minor ones. On the “hero” side, the class 1-A kids have a special place in my heart, along with Mirio, Tamaki, All Might and Aizawa.

However, if I have to pick favorites, my top 3 are Midoriya, Todoroki and Kirishima; not necessarily in that order. And that’s only if I have to really whittle it down, because the top tier would be even larger otherwise. (I do love a good ensemble!) Since you asked my reasons for picking my favorite(s), and I’m trying hard not to write an essay, I shall break it down thusly:

TODOROKI

Cool quirk!

Fun to draw

Half-and-half hair

Has scar; I want to hug him

Hidden sweet side

Also sassy

Overall bishonen looks without being aware of it (or not caring)

Dual personality like his quirk: cool-headed warrior/socially awkward teen

but to me, mewerng achieve, through their story, what a million "platonic/familial love is just as special as romantic love" think pieces and blog posts and half hearted protests can't. growing romantic feelings in friends to lovers stories uses the shorthand of "feeling more". as in romantic love is platonic love plus something, "i don't want to just be friends, i want to be more than that" etc. with mewerng, the development of their relationship is that they grow to a place where romance is superfluous. their platonic love is the version of love that is plus something. they are each other's Person. they are each other's Heart. they couldn't be more to each other - they're already everything.

[Valid question, glad you asked. Ya'll only know the story behind this blog and that my partner inspired it, but ya'll don't know the story behind Scott and I. Buckle up, kiddos, it's story time.

You know how people say things like: "I read this/watched this/found this/experienced this/etc. right when I needed it" or "this came to me at the perfect time"? That's pretty much what happened with Scott and I. I found him when I needed him most.

I didn't need him back in 2020 when I first started my "MCU journey", if you will. I didn't need him in 2021 or 2022. I needed him this year, 2023. I didn't know a thing about Ant-Man until this year when I watched his movies for the first time to get ready for Quantumania. I had seen him in Civil War, but that was ages ago and I forgot about him. Like I said, I didn't need him back then. I needed him now.

You might be wondering: "Why? What happened?" Long story short on that one; one of my friends basically ruined my life for a few months. And I'm not saying that for dramatic effect, I'm saying it because it's true. She threw a huge wrench in my life and I was miserable. It was hard to function properly.

On the other hand, I have a best friend who I hadn't seen or done anything with in 2-3 years. Years. It's not like we had a falling out, but I need a really good reason to leave my house. I need some kind of event or something. Guess what that was? Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. I may have known nothing about Ant-Man prior to this, but the trailers really intrigued me and I was willing to give him a chance. So very glad that I did.

I messaged my friend and she was so excited and happy that I asked her to go. By extension, that made me really happy because it'd been so long. The week prior, I watched the first two Ant-Man movies and pretty much fell in love. You can thank Ant-Dad for that. I love a good family dynamic.

I almost didn't get to go because I was really sick that morning. I think what happened was that I was psyching myself out, you know? It had been years, I hadn't left my house in forever, I was miserable for months and had been having constant panic attacks. I think that's why I felt so sick, but I felt great when I woke up again. It took like 5-10 minutes to convince my mom to let me go lol. Could we have gone a different day? Yeah, but I didn't want to go on a different day. I wanted to go on the day we planned.

Know something that really warmed my heart about this? When my friend and I were waiting for the movie to start, she said: "I was looking forward to this all week. I was thinking about it all day, even after your mom called and said you couldn't go." That was so sweet, because she wanted to be with my as much as I did with her. It was a great night all around and one of the best I had in months. It was great to be with my friend again and it was so much fun.

So there you have it. That's the story behind Scott and I and why he's so important. He helped me reconnect with one of my best friends and helped me start to get out of a bad slump. Because of that, I think Scott will always have a special place in my heart, not just Quantumania.]

first off as a devout gooner, the way you've actually managed to convince me of a ship that involves mason mount is an achievement in of itself lol but i see the vision!!

the way mason seems to just not take anything martin says 'seriously' and martin getting increasingly irritated about it is so funny to me lmao i'm eating this dynamic up. also the whole 'locked up in a tower' thing reminds me of rapunzel which suits martin so well?? probably bc they're both blonde... either way the actual dialogue alongside martin's internal dialogue is definitely a highlight when reading this!

i'm also a sucker for tense family relationships especially with how martin seems so pressured to be perfect all the time (both in the fic and irl), it just gives so much more background yk? and you portray it so beautifully so thank you!

this pairing actually makes no sense it literally just came to me because of their hair being so princely
