Why don't we talk more about Behind the Wall by Tracy Chapman ? This is like... THE song. A masterpiece. Two minutes of a wonderful voice singing about domestic violence and police's indifference in the most beautiful way without any instruments or music behind. I cry every single time I listen to this, rare are the lyrics that are as beautiful and heartbreaking as the lyrics of this song, and Tracy Chapman's voice truly is one of the most amazing voices ever. You need to listen to Behind the wall by Tracy Chapman !

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse when I talk about how “Better Than Revenge” is an important part of Taylor’s discography. It acts as a point that you can trace her own growth from (as well as society’s) and it’s also just an interesting artifact from the 2010s that tells what the culture was like. I don’t understand how some people can immediately push it away without realizing that it is indicative of something so much bigger than Taylor herself and look at it from a cultural perspective.
All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid
Nymph then virgin, nurse then a servant
Just an appendage, live to attend him
So that he never lifts a finger
Okay so this is not my usual thing, but huge shout-out @vaguelybinary for suggesting this one because it sent me down a super fascinating history rabbit hole.
This song's lyrics showcase a Yiddish poem-turned-class struggle song, and this is a modern adaptation of that song.
It also combines themes of socialist feminism with the ideals of the Yiddish Labour Bund.
Anyway, I haven't posted nearly enough klezmer and Daniel Kahn is the musical brilliance behind the Yiddish version of Cohen's Hallelujah.
(And I've also stayed pretty religious in my posts, with very few secular songs. To wit, I mostly do not listen to secular music, so this suggestion was especially helpful.)
So here you go! Enjoy some klezmer, Jewish history, and a fully contemporary message of solidarity with women as workers!
i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women
with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…
and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox
here she is, fading out.
p.s.: thesis statement on moffatgirls from the tags i left on somebody else’s post about charley pollard.. well it belongs here since it’s basically the semiotic hurricane swirling around ruby at the moment :)
i write a lot of lesbian and radical feminist poetry and texts, i make a lot of radical feminist photography and short movies/videos and i'd really looooove to share it with you all but the thing is i really don't want it to get stolen. if i just post it on social medias i just know that one day, one of my poems/texts/pictures/vids is going to get stolen and used by someone else, probably for something totally different than the original message and context. if any of you have any advices about it and know what i could do please tell me!

The Song of Achilles is one of the most garbage books I've ever read and I kind of want to talk about it but I'd have to reread The Song of Achilles to do that in a cohesive manner, which is garbage
