" I told you not to fall in love with me. " devil-may-care glint sparked in her eyes, knowing she'd always have him hooked. despite the control she thought she possessed he'd always have an iron grip around her whether she loved it or not. it was a dangerous game they played, a dance on the edge of a precipice, so masterfully executed with deceit and finesse, that their love story was always the talk of every gossip post and t.witter trend. this time, she was captured in a photograph with another man, a stranger to him — just another pawn maneuvered on their chessboard to keep him reeled in. " you jealous? " words dripped for cherry glossed lips, laced with a playfullness that only he had the pleasure of hearing. | @intcxications

Some RotG Episode Ideas bc that Potential Animated Series Project Post by @lumin0usfox Inspired Me
(( i haven't read book 5 of goc yet so mega apologies if some of this is off (im writing this with knowledgeup to War of Dreams) and assuming that most people outside of the fandom haven't read the books. im kinda writing it for that mindset))
- Opening episode is Jack and Jamie working on trying to get Jack believers. hyjinks ensue.
- like following the logic that William Joyce has already set that Burgess doesn't really have a specific time. like yeah it's like 2012 but it's also in the past so the Internet isn't really that big of a thing. So they can't just make a blog post or YouTube video and have it go viral. so they focus on more in-person not-offline ways of getting believers
-or idk maybe the technology does exist and a youtube video goes viral and Jack gets a lot of believers that way. the rest of the guardians are just... "is that allowed???".
- I know this is super self-indulgent but can we please have Jamie and North try to teach Jack, Bunny, and Tooth memes please. if nothing else than as a running joke
-an episode of all of the guardians checking up on pitch to make sure he's not trying anything. and since Jack's lost most of his memories this could be where he (and the audience) learns Pitch's past
- at least one episode that's not too much of jack really interacting with the guardians or the kids from Burgess specifically and we kind of get more of a glimpse into what his life was like before becoming a guardian or having believers
-holiday special must include a party at North's. I think this might actually be canon actually. plus sandy goes nuts for the eggnog so that's gonna be fun. Sandy absolutely destroys Bunny at charades.
-an episode where Jack is kinda awkward and still figuring out his role and dynamic with the guardians. like North invites his to spend time at the pole after he learns Jack doesn't have much of a home outside of The Oak of Sorrows and they really confront that whole "u guess abandoned me for 300 years and now we friend and give me a second I need to adjust. maybe they learn about how lonely jack felt or that they didn't know how bad it was."
-episode to introduce Katherine and how she's really come into her role as Mother Goose. maybe she's spent sometime moving on from nightlight. she still misses him obviously, but she's recognize that jack isn't him anyway and i can't imagine her trying to force anything or interfere with his life if she thinks he's happy. if the episode doesn't start with "Once upon a time, ..." then i give up.
- I really can't imagine romance being like a main focus point here but the grounds are kind of already laid for Jack and tooth to get together from the movie. And also because lesbians are powerful and make everything better, Katherine and mother nature could have bonded over their conflicts with pitch and IDK they would be an absolute power couple. Also Sandy is a literal alien, so I don't think he really cares much about human gender roles or standards. Non-binary icon.
- maybe because Jack hasn't been able to talk to the Man in the Moon for so long the Guardians 2 Straight Up take him to the Moon to get closure. This whole event can be like a 2 episode special or something. Maybe this is where Jack learns the night light lore if that would be something that anyone would wanna touch. (i love GoC and I've been a part of the fandom since at least 2016 but damn i still can't think of a non-completely convoluted way of connecting Jack to Nightlight. Maybe something happens after book 5 that causes NightLight to forget about the Guardians when he's in his human form the Guardians don't know who he became when he became human so they lost track of one another. (It could explain why the Guardians don't recognize Jack is Nightlight even though they look exactly alike and act the same and have the same powers.))
- these are all really plot-heavy so what are some light-headed episode ideas?? uhh... let's see...
-Similar to how Bunny has egg hunts and tooth has puting teeth under the pillow, Jack and Jamie try to figure what some tradition for him could be and try to popularize them.
- Jack finds out north used to be a criminal and the Bandit King. it's absolute chaos.
- Jamie has to get a bit more creative with coming up with excuses for why he keeps getting caught talking to the air.
-So what if this takes place a few years after RotG. We can see has Burgess has grown a bit and Jack has to see Jamie grow up a bit and start to enter high school. he still believes in jack of course but it could be bitter sweet plus Jamie at age 14 would be physically the same age as Jack. ~~ Parallels ~~ the inherent existentialism of being immortal, u know, fun stuff (if done right).
-Jack tracking down his sister's family in the modern day to know they're okay and so he can see the consequences of his sacrifice.
-Sophie is Bunny's helper for the day.
-really just a season where jack figures out his place with the guardians and more about who he is. those themes of found family and building trust with those around you. oooh that's the good stuff.
-I know this is ambitious but maybe like the first season could be Jack kind of building that relationship with the Guardians and his new Believers with hints of who he was in the past and then like the second season is the deeper dive into who he was unlike it just gets really deep and oh my God I can't stop thinking about those now.

you know those posts of people saying to send a wedding invitation to celebrities because sometimes they’ll send gifts congratulating the couple? and you know how sometimes the celebrity will actually show up? this is my head cannon of who would end up showing up just because.
(little bit of a warning: these are very half-baked and mostly just stream of consciousness because my brain is fried and i’m in need of a distraction from writing essays, but the thought hasn’t left my head, so now you have to deal with my brainrot, mwahahaha!)
i think oikawa would show up to a bunch of weddings for he people he doesn’t know. it starts in argentina when a fan sends him an invite, and he’s stupid happy about it and no one really knows why. he just really enjoys weddings, they suppose. it’s in the area, too, so he buys a gift for the happy couple and he shows up. he genuinely tries to be really low key because he doesn’t want to ruin their big day, so he stays in the back for the ceremony and he is the perfect wedding-goer. at the ceremony, though, he has a much harder time remaining out of the spotlight. when the bride and groom notice that there’s a tiny bit of a commotion happening, they lose their minds when they realize that it’s because oikawa actually showed up!!! they thought he was kidding when he accepted the invite, or maybe that he’d send an assistant or something!!! but nope, there he is, looking both enthused at being the center of attention but also kind of uncomfortable. when the couple lose their minds in front of him, though, being utter fanatics and hyping him up, he eases up and finally begins to have fun, dancing on the dance floor with different people, drinking responsibly, talking to people, bashfully signing autographs. he doesn’t lose steam for even a second, and when the party seems to lull just a little bit too long, he goes out of his way to make sure everyone gets back to enjoying themselves to the fullest (which the bride and groom appreciate). nearly everyone in attendance gets his attention for a short portion of time, and if they don’t, he tries to snag a picture with everyone on the way out. at the very end of the night, he records a short video for the couple telling them how lovely they are, thanking them for the invite and the great time, and wishing them the absolute best. it’s the highlight of their lives, besides, y’know, the whole getting married thing.
it’s gets out that oikawa actually went to a wedding he was invited to by strangers when someone posts a picture of the wedding online and he was spotted in the background, so now he gets invites all the time. he doesn’t go to all of them because he’s busy and some of the places he gets invites from are across the world, but if the location intrigues him and he has the time, he’ll usually be there.
kageyama would definitely go, too! but it would be mostly because he can’t remember for the life of him if he knows the couple, and it stresses him the hell out. he’s definitely gotten a lot more confident since he was in school, but at the root of him is still an awkward kid who questions everything about himself if it’s not volleyball. so he panics about it for weeks before the wedding, wondering what they’ll want as a gift, accidentally tricking himself into believing that he does in fact know the couple and buying a gift that he assumes they’ll like based off of thinking it’s one of his old classmates from school and buying something that they’d like. and when he doesn’t recognize either of them at the ceremony, he gets so distracted trying to place anyone’s face as someone he knows and he just can’t for the life of him figure it out. he’s half a beat behind everyone when they start cheering for the couple as the kiss and leave because he’s so deep in thought. it isn’t until the reception that he finds out that he doesn’t actually know anyone and he gets so pouty about having stressed over it for so long that he broods in a corner, trying to avoid everyone. he doesn’t start to enjoy himself until someone recognizes him and rambles for nearly ten minutes about how amazing he is and about this one play that he did that they practiced for weeks after seeing it but they still couldn’t nail and that he was their inspiration. imagine everyone’s surprise when they find them in the hallway of the reception hall with a volleyball kageyama had in his car, kageyama teaching the person how he did it. a small game breaks out in the obnoxiously big hallway with a scrappy set up of chairs precariously piled on top of each other until they were high enough and a bunch of coat jackets tied together along the top and bottom of where a net would be so they can see through. the noise is just barely softer than the music, but they gather a bit of a crowd until the game is over, and as much as kageyama enjoyed it, he apologizes to the bride and groom afterwards for feeling like he took away their spotlight. they laugh and say they don’t mind as long as the groom can play the next match.
a picture of kageyama smiling and cheering as his impromptu teammate makes a good play goes viral days later and kageyama does everything in his power to get the pictures taken at the wedding so he has the memories of that night forever. he even sends an awkward thank you card to the couple after.
ushijima accepts an invite, too; mostly because he feels it would be rude not to accept when they spent the time and money going out of their way to send him one. he spends a lot of money getting them a gift, and he cleans up super nicely, and he’s almost distracting for the entire ceremony. the quiet mysterious type suits him well, and everyone notices as he stays in the back, politely applauding when necessary and offering tissue to anyone crying and helping when it’s needed. at the reception, he mostly stays in his seat, but he stops to have conversations with anyone that comes by. most of them are very to the point, and don’t get longer than a few minutes because ushijima doesn’t beat around the bush much, but as off-putting as it sounds, everyone absolutely adores him. some people are trying to size him up, but he’s just too straightforward about how they are perfectly good on their own without having to compare themselves that they wander off shocked that he was so... nice? no, he is, but that’s not quite it... honest? about it all that they feel validated and off-kilter by the time they walk away. others come over to ask him to dance, which he politely accepts and he’s just so earnest in his attempt that they can’t even be upset that he’s a little stiff and bumbling. if anything, they fall for his charm even more. as he leaves, everyone insists that he take a few plates to-go and that if he ever needed anything, all he had to do was ask. he was very confused by this proclamation as he didn’t know anyone well enough. in his bag of to-go boxes, however, he finds a ton of business cards and stuff that he stores away just in case he does need any of their services.
at his next interview, he gets asked about the entire experience, and as always, he’s super honest: “i had a wonderful time. everyone was very kind. that being said, i felt as if i was intruding on a very personal moment meant to be shared by those you hold dearest, so as much as i appreciate the sentiment, i do not plan to attend anymore weddings if i don’t know someone involved. it should be their big day, after all, and i would hate to distract from it.” if he gets anymore invites, he politely declines and instead sends them a gift and his congratulations.
i’ve been gone for a few days because of school, but i’ve been itching to send something in ever since i saw the wedding prompt. plus, all of the hc coming in from it have been so good! you have so many talented followers, and your additions are great as always, elle!
anyway, i have to get back to school. hope school is going well for you, elle! and make sure you’re taking care of yourself! -🌙
— from elle ! wait, hold on i love this >_< but hello moon anon !! i hope all those essays are working out well for you and i hope you’re able to take breaks in between :) anyways, this definitely made me love and i like that it’s true to the characters (esp. kags). my quick lil scenarios (under the cut as usual) is kind of an amalgamation of what you sent in because i'm just thinking of what would happen if the couple took a shot in the dark and invited all three of them. and they all attend :>> thank you for this and i hope you are having a wonderful day ! <3

“yohoo, tobio-chan!” kageyama heard, a figure sliding into the empty seat next to him. the voice is airy, familiar, one that he had heard several times in the past. the ceremony was due to start in five minutes, everyone from the guests to the wedding party already taking their respective place.
he narrows his eyes towards the figure, recognising the man just after a couple of quick beats, “oikawa-san?”
“ah! i'm glad you could still recognise me.” oikawa grinned, squinting his eyes at the vast amounts of sunlight that entered through the windows, “too bright in here, isn’t it?”
“what are you doing back in japan?” he asked, eyes growing wide as he’s unsure if the sight in front of him was actually real.
“visiting family, taking a little vacation.” oikawa replied, leaning back in his seat, “so how do you know the happy couple?”
“i...i'm not sure.” kageyama admitted, looking down at his lap in embarrassment.
“can you keep a secret tobio?” oikawa leaned in to whisper, waiting for him to nod before continuing, “i don’t think i know them either.”
__
it was about halfway through the ceremony and oikawa was getting just a little bit restless; he loved weddings, truly, but this one was dragging on much longer than the ones he previously attended. his gaze was lingering everywhere — from the loved-up gazes of the couple, the flowers that lined the aisles, to the guests who hung onto every word of the vows. one of the guests in particular was more familiar than most.
“pst, tobio.” he spoke, nudging kageyama’s shoulder, “doesn’t that guy look familiar?”
he tilted his head towards the man who sat at the very back row, trying his best to keep a relatively low profile. kageyama followed with his eyes, attempting to be as discreet as he could. he recognised the man immediately, “that’s ushijima-san!”
maybe kageyama had exclaimed a little too loudly, earning himself a few shhhhs from the people who sat around him. he bows his head slightly as an apology while oikawa bites his lip to hold in his laughter.
__
the three of them were able to meet up during the reception, opting to sit at the same table — the one farthest away from everyone as to not draw any attention to themselves. well, oikawa insisted that they did and kageyama and ushijima didn’t really know anyone else to be comfortable enough to sit with them.
“what did you both get the bride and groom?” oikawa asked as an attempt to make conversation, taking a sip from the glass in front of them.
ushijima was one to spare no expense when it came to gifts, but he wasn’t one to brag about the cost of it either, “just a simple tea set. nothing much.”
what he failed to mention was that simple tea set cost several thousands of yen. but of course, oikawa took it as a bit of an opportunity to one-up ushijima and brags about his gifts. yes, gifts. plural.
__
ushijima was in the bathroom and oikawa had gotten the attention of a couple of bridesmaids — flirting with him while he tried his best to subtly deflect their advances — leaving kageyama all alone at the table.
he felt a hand tap on his shoulder, soft and hesitant, “kageyama tobio?”
“yes?” kageyama asked, turning to face the source of the voice. he’s met with a teenage boy, possibly not older than sixteen, looking at him with complete nervousness in his eyes.
“i'm sorry to bother you. but i've just been such a huge fan of yours for the longest time and i wasn’t even sure if i should approach you but i really needed to let you know how much you have inspired me and i still have so much to learn but...uh, yeah.” the boy finished, looking at everything but kageyama at that point.
and a light flush colors kageyama’s cheeks, completely flustered. it was the first time anyone had approached him like that before, and he’s unsure how exactly to take the compliments. but he noticed the way the fan’s hands trembled, and he recalls all the times he’s approached the players he was a fan of when he was his age. “is there anything you need help with?”
__
needless to say, oikawa and ushijima were surprised when they found their table completely devoid of kageyama’s presence; only to find him in the incredibly large hallways with a makeshift volleyball court with chairs haphazardly stacked on top one another.
“where did you get that?” ushijima asked, pointing towards the volleyball that kageyama held in his hands.
“my car.” he replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“well then,” oikawa smirked, eyes lighting up as he looked around the halls, especially at the gathering crowd, “how about a friendly little match?”
kageyama and the fan he was meant to be teaching stood on one side of the makeshift court while oikawa and ushijima stood opposite them, getting into position. most of the guests had their phones out, recording everything and posting it on social media.
“at least i will finally know what it’s like to finally play with you in a team instead of against you.” ushijima commented, briefly glancing at his teammate for the night.
oikawa choked on air, taking a few seconds to compose himself before responding, “should have come to shiratorizawa, huh?”
it was barely even noticeable, barely lasted a few seconds, but ushijima cracked a smile.
__
the night ends with the newlyweds approaching the three of them, expressing their gratefulness for their invitations but also apologising for stealing their thunder on their wedding, going so far as to offering to pay for their honeymoon.
“as tempting as that may be,” the bride smiled, “it really is no problem. we’re surprised that you even attended in the first place.
the groom nodded in agreement, “we had a lot of fun watching you play tonight, so we feel like we should be thanking you more. you didn’t have to bring gifts too.”
oikawa waved a hand as if to say it’s nothing, while kageyama and ushijima offer tickets to their next match in exchange for photos from the wedding — particularly that of their little volleyball match.
the three of them finally make their way out into the night and into their respective cars, but not before oikawa lets out one more question.
“the three of us should hang out more,” oikawa smiled, not a trace of teasing or malice in his tone, just a genuine offer, “at least once before i get back to argentina.”
years ago, none of them would even consider such a thing, but all three liked to think that they moved past such trivial things.
kageyama gave him a small smile, “alright.”

↳     THE  BACKGROUND:   BIOGRAPHY.  (   tw:  mentions  of  alcoholism  &  abuse  )
seong  hyunjae  (  later  given  the  english  name  lincoln  seong...  thanks  linkin  park  !   )   was  born  in  the  heart  of  busan,  south  korea.    his  parents  married  at  the  age  of  21,  due  to  the  cultural  expectations  of  having  a  child  born  out  of  wedlock.    while  things  seemed  to  be  smooth  sailing  for  a  while,   the  couple  realized  the  real  struggles  of  adulthood.   financial  issues  came  into  play.   stress  from  working  multiple  jobs  every  single  day  took  a  toll  on  their  mental  health,  as  well  as  their  relationship  with  each  other.   link’s  mother  began  to  develop  an  alcohol  addiction,  and  her  abusive  behavior  came  following  after.   their  home  was  falling  apart,  with  four-year-old  link  falling  asleep  to  muffled  screaming  and  glass  being  thrown  on  the  next  room  over.   his  father  was  able  to  withstand  it  for  a  while,  but  he  drew  the  line  after  coming  home  from  work  to  see  large  cuts  on  the  side  of  his  son’s  thigh,  and  a  bruise  forming  across  his  cheek.   that  was  when  he  knew  his  wife  was  dangerous.    so,  one  night  when  lincoln’s  mother  as  at  work,  he  packed  his  belongings,  grabbed  link,  and  left  without  looking  back.
for  a  while,  it  was  just  the  two  of  them.    they  found  ways  to  make  it  work,  and  despite  the  fact  that  it  was  a  constant  struggle,  his  father  never  wanted  link  to  lose  his  childhood.    in  fact,  his  father  gave  him  everything  he  could  give   —   but  most  importantly,  as  cheesy  as  it  sounds,  his  unconditional  love  and  support.    as  someone  who  lost  his  own  parents  young,  he  made  sure  that  link  would  never  feel  like  he’s  being  deprived of  that,  ever.   they  created  this  tight-knight  bond  because  of  that,  which  can’t  ever  be  broken.   and  now,  link’s  fondest  memories  always  involved  spending  time  with  his  father.    one  favorite  memory  of  his  involved  morning  jam  sessions  after  breakfast.    link’s  father  was  previously  a  lead  guitarist  in  a  garage  band  with  a  few  of  his  high  school  friends,  so  while  he  was  playing  riffs  on  his  electric  guitar,  eight-year-old  link  would  be  banging  the  coffee  table  with  plastic  straws.
when  link  was  about  ten,  he  and  his  father  sold  all  of  their  belongings  and  moved  all  the  way  to  jefferson,  connecticut  for  a  job  offer  that  he  couldn’t  refuse.   fast  forward  a  few  years,  and  he’s  a  teenager  in  high  school.    growing  up  link  was  more  of  an  introvert,  and  would  spend  his  time  in  the  computer  lab  playing  video  games  or  browsing  in  online  forums.   he  was  a  regular  in  this  my  chemical  romance  forum  (  under  the  username  @hyperlink  ),  and  made  a  lot  of  his  lifelong  friends  over  there.    one  of  his  online  friends  jokingly  suggested  one  afternoon  that  they  should  start  a  band  over  their  nightly  skype  call,  and  while  it  was  initially  shrugged  off  as  dream  more  than  an  arm’s  reach  away,  my  time  was  born.    link  had  to  endlessly  plead  his  father  to  buy  him  a  secondhand  drum  kit  off  of  craigslist  for  christmas.   but  once  he  found  it  under  their  tree  that  year,  it  sparked  this  drive  in  him  to  learn  and  practice  nonstop.
their  first  official  band  practice  happened  a  day  after  link’s  high  school  graduation  (  which  was  also  the  first  time  everyone  saw  each  other  in  person  !   ),  and  they  spent  that  entire  summer  making  music.   at  first,  link  only  thought  of  it  as  a  hobby...  since,  he  was  attending  his  first  year  of  university  that  fall.   but  after  playing  their  first  few  shows  and  making  all  these  memories,   he  couldn’t  keep  the  band  in  the  backburner.   he  dropped  out  not  too  long  after  to  pursue  his  music  career  full-time.   moved  out,  spent  the  next  few  months  working  long  shifts  at  the  local  amusement  park,  and  shared  one  two-bedroom  apartment  with  his  bandmates.    one  of  their  songs  went  viral  one  crazy  night,   and  the  next  thing  they  knew,  they  were  being  signed  into  a  record  label.   now  ?   they’re  one  of  the  biggest  alternative/indie  rock  bands  out  there  with  multiple  platinum  records,  sold  out  world  tours,  and  millions  of streams  each  year.   their  time  finally  came.
↳     THE  INSIDE  LOOK:    PERSONALITY.
link  definitely...  gets  babied  a  lot   (  by  his  bandmates  and  his  fans  ),   and  he  uses  that  to  his  advantage  :]   because  of  that  he  gets  away  with   a  lot  of  things,  but  it’s  usually  with  things  that  are  small  like  eating  the  last  slice  of  pizza  and  it  would  be  justified  with  “  no  he  is  a  growing  BOY  he  NEEDS  it  !  ”
that  being  said,  he  eats  nonstop.   the  guy  carries  a  sandwich  bag  full  of  cheerios  wherever  he  goes.   his  friends  know  that  if  they  can’t  finish  eating  something,  they  can  always  donate  it  to  link  for  a  good  cause.
when  my  chemical  romance  announced  their  reunion  tour  in  2019,  he  threw  his  phone  across  the  room  and  cried.   my  chemical  romance  (  with  green  day  and  linkin  park  as  a  close  second  !  )   are  his  all-time  favorite  bands,  and  a  lot  of  my  time’s  sound  is  heavily  inspired  by  them.
when  i  tell  u  that  this  man  is  so  chill,  i  mean  it.   like  things  could  LITERALLY  be  on  fire  and  he’d  be  like   “  just  throw  some  water  on  it  it’ll  be  fine  😎  ” ...  he’s  not  the  type  to  worry  about  things,  and  is  more  of  a  go  with  the  flow  type  of  person.   he  doesn’t  even  need  to  be  zooted  to  be  like  this.   KJFGDG
being  in  the  band  and  a  part  of  the  entertainment  industry  caused  a  small  shift  in  his  personality.   maybe  he  just  blossomed  ?   who  knows  !   but  because  he’s  been  exposed  to  the  rockstar  life,   he  was  able  to  open  up  more.   he’s  always  seeking  thrills,  big  or  small,  and  won’t  have  the  time  to  think  about  the  consequences  for  his  actions.
because  the  my  chemical  romance  forum  that  was  once  his  second  home  shut  down,   he’s  since  moved  on  to  reddit.   social  media  isn’t  really  his  thing  (  and  his  fans  always  get  mad  at  him  for  posting  a  selfie  once  a  month  then  dipping  ),  but  catch  him  on  subreddits  making  comments  or  starting  fights  for  the  sheer  entertainment  of  proving  someone  wrong.
this  might  sound  bad  but...  he  still  can’t  wrap  his  head  around  the  fact  that  he  isn’t  ?   financially  struggling  anymore  ?   even  if  he’s  already  bought  a  house  and  two  luxury  cars  for  his  dad,  he  still  gets  ticked  off  if  he  sees  something  small  like  an  APPLE   that  is  marked  a  dollar  and  a  few  cents  over  the  usual.   he  catches  himself  using  things  until  they’re  ABSOLUTELY  worn  out,  and  still  leeches  off  of  his  bandmates/friends  when  he  can.  <3   also,  if  something  is  broken,  he’ll  be  the  type  to  figure  it  out  and  fix  it  himself.
people...  don’t  exactly  remember  the  last  time  he’s  slept.   it  could  be  the  insomnia   (   it’s  definitely  insomnia,  thx  childhood   trauma  !   )  but  it’s  almost  gotten  to  the  point  where  he’s  afraid  to  fall  asleep  on  his  own.   he’ll  always  try  to  find  ways  to  sleep  in  someone’s  company,  even  if  it’s  just  him  crashing  on  a  couch  while  someone  is  watching  tv  right  there.   if  he’s  alone  though,  he’ll  always  try  to  find  ways  to  distract  himself  like  stream  for  10  hours  straight.
speaking  of  trauma...  he’s  also  scared  of  relationships.  after  witnessing  the  way  his  mother  treated  his  father,  he’s  cautious  of  history  repeating  itself...  but  with  him.  so  whenever  he  catches  himself  even  falling  for  just  a  little,  he  dips.
his  life  revolves  around  the  4  m’s:   marvel  movies,  minecraft,  music,  and  my  chemical  romance.   that’s  it.
a  link  😏   to  his  pinterest  !   also,  i  don’t  have  any  wcs,  but  if  we  plot,  i  promise  i’ll  use  my  big  brain  to  brainstorm  something  with  u.  <3

Get this:- (What began as a plague of anonymous fact-checkers attempting to elevate their preferred politics, has metastasised into a truth manufacturing line with the same quality control as a Wuhan mask factory.) NAILED IT.
Probably the best article you will read today and will most likely be ignored because its long it needs to go viral.
(Spectator)
I hope you all have a good memory, because you are going to need it.
Modern political events are being re-written in real-time – dare we say it – ‘whitewashed’ by the unanimous vote of the unelected press. What began as a plague of anonymous fact-checkers attempting to elevate their preferred politics, has metastasised into a truth manufacturing line with the same quality control as a Wuhan mask factory.
There is a danger that the only faithful record of our era will be the one decaying inside our memories. It is a shame that civilisation has fallen back into this bad habit of allowing the powerful to coerce the truth, seizing control on a scaffolding of lies. That said, there is never anything new regarding the squabbles of humanity. The dramatic events of the past few weeks are, in the proper historical context, a tired repeat of the poorly produced saga of our species. These episodes have different authors and a fresh cast, but their underlying story remains the same.
Liberty creates prosperity. Prosperity creates power. Power creates tyranny. Tyranny creates civil upheaval.
After this, the way forward is uncertain. More often than not, the battle for liberty is lost and the citizenry can do little more than lament the freedoms that were so easily and swiftly surrendered to the mob.
If we are to successfully defend our democracy, preserving the historical record is essential. Failure to do so will leave us in the goldfish bowl of fortune, circling the water with Big Brother looking in – distorted and immense on the other side of the glass.
In 2021, our history is guarded by Silicon Valley. We rent space on their cloud servers and entrust companies like Amazon and Google with our private information – usually without reading their terms of service. One accident at a hosting centre or arbitrary censorial act has the potential to erase businesses and memories. Most people place so much faith in these companies that they do not bother backing anything up for safekeeping.
Our civilisation is awash with data hosted by corporate third parties. While most of us are old enough to remember an age before digital streaming, our youngest generations have lived their lives in the palm of Big Tech. They have entwined themselves with these companies in such a way that any attempt made by the wider community to threaten Silicon Valley’s empire will be resisted by devout technological serfs.
When did Social Media’s control of the historical record begin?
Wikipedia was a shiny new thing when I was in high school. Instead of traipsing to the library to locate a reference book that probably wasn’t even filed in the right place, we were gifted this crazy website out of nowhere. Wikipedia was essentially crack for the academic class, providing instant gratification for knowledge-seekers. Type in the question and voila! all the work was done for you. No more waiting in line at the photocopier with an idiot attacking a paper jam with a pair of scissors.
It was like cheating, and that was certainly what our teachers called it. Despite having this glorious database of seemingly infinite knowledge, no one was allowed to use it for anything other than time-wasting ‘wiki-surfing’. (If you haven’t done it, don’t start.)
Our teachers had two objections to the rise of Wikipedia.
The first was a (perfectly reasonable) fear that it would make our inquiring minds lazy. With everyone receiving instant answers, there was no opportunity to stumble over the complexities of a topic. Wikipedia left classrooms in danger of forming monotonous opinions.
Which brings us to the second concern. Wikipedia was given authority over the truth because of its usability, not quality.
Conceived in an open-source environment, it invited thousands of users to post entries about topics which other users then edited – collaborating to create a vast network of information that quickly outstripped the dictionary cabal. With enough people interacting, it was assumed that the truth would win out. Generally speaking, that was the case.
It later became obvious that absolute freedom over information in a publishing environment had a few flaws – namely – humans could be real little shits when they set their minds to it. A common muck-up day activity involved editing the school’s Wikipedia entry with the level of hormone-induced humour that you’d expect.
As usual, politics ruined everything.
The official pages of contentious public figures were the first to be vandalised by bad actors attempting to defame and damage their political opposition. These budding propaganda agents soon learned that subtle changes were the most effective because they went unnoticed for longer. Slight edits to history could be compounded over time, gradually altering the accepted truth until it became the only truth.
As an intellectual product, Wikipedia was simply too good to die from its wounds. It fed off the accumulation and summation of vast quantities of knowledge. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, thesauruses – they all joined this digital abyss, leaving our language vulnerable to shifting definitions. As Wikipedia’s traditional market competition learned, information grows too fast to filter through layers of validation. If you can’t keep up, you die off. This is the exact same dynamic playing out between legacy media and social media.
Wikipedia’s influence over society became so acute that it suffered censorial attacks by the European Union when the commission launched Articles 11 and 13 in 2019. This caused a crisis of intellectual freedom across the world that went largely unreported by the mainstream press. In response, Wikipedia blacked out swathes of the European continent until amendments were made. Extraordinary, considering the inflexibility of the EU.
Things declined rapidly with the rise of Cultural Marxism. Wikipedia became the choking canary, wiggling its legs at the bottom of a mine shaft while a cuckoo took up residence. Its articles have since been heavily edited to bring them in line with the prison cell of social justice. Instead of recording knowledge, Wikipedia’s primary goal is to avoid causing offence, leaving the site rife with contradictions and politically correct fiction. It capitulated to these censorial demands and maintained its position as caretaker of (revised) information.
For all the power Wikipedia has, it pales in comparison to social media – a conglomerate in charge of the real-time recording of history. Forget editing the facts; they aren’t even making it to print.
With the US election over, the next information scandal will revolve around medical tyranny. When China’s Covid-19 became a Catch 22 for the global political class (who are terrified that private citizens will sue them for incompetence), discussion surrounding vaccines became intrinsically linked with the survival of those in power.
Medical advances have always created conflict between healthcare, politics and corporate – especially with the global vaccination market worth almost $US60 billion in 2020.
‘Trust the experts’ simply isn’t a good enough mantra for social media to invoke during its censorial binges when we have hard evidence that experts often make horrific mistakes. Thalidomide was available over the counter for years before it was found to cause birth defects. Despite mounting complaints in the public sphere, it was deemed safe across the medical spectrum. In the end, it killed two thousand children and left ten thousand with serious physical abnormalities. Without public pressure, it would have killed more.
Vaccines carry similar risks. While they save millions of lives, they can be wildly unpredictable in their medical infancy. It is imperative that the government maintains public choice and consumer transparency across social media platforms to ensure that alarm bells ring when something goes wrong.
Silicon Valley has inserted itself into the pandemic, no doubt due to political pressure, by announcing plans to ban users from reporting or discussing side effects related to Covid19 vaccines. They claim that these measures are in the interest of public safety, but Big Tech is not a medical institution, nor should it be allowed to silence the necessary feedback to protect its political and corporate friends.
Under their heading ‘Our Expanded Approach’, Twitter detail their intent:
Twitter has an important role to play as a place for good faith public debate and discussion around these critical public health matters. […] Using a combination of technology and human review, we will begin enforcing this updated policy on December 21, and expanding our actions during the following weeks. We will enforce this policy in close consultation with local, national and global public health authorities around the world, and will strive to be iterative and transparent in our approach. We remain focused on helping people find credible health information, verifying public health experts, and updating our policies in an iterative and transparent approach.
If anything goes wrong with a Covid-19 vaccine, don’t expect to hear about it.
Who are these public health experts allowed to dominate the market of information? Absolute authority demands intense scrutiny. Let us run one example.
The World Health Organisation is one of Twitter’s verified sources. They are a medical bureaucracy that has conducted itself appallingly during the Covid-19 health crisis. When Covid-19 emerged, the WHO helped the Chinese Communist Party suppress reports about the severity of the virus circulating inside Wuhan. It released incorrect information about Covid19’s transmission and deliberately ignored Taiwan’s dissenting medical evidence because of regional politics. The WHO then looked the other way when China bullied nations with accusations of racism if they tried to close their borders. When it became clear that a pandemic was underway, the WHO assisted China in concealing the (previously acknowledged) origin of the virus while allowing the Chinese Communist Party to avoid a mandatory independent investigation into ground zero of the pandemic.
This is the same ‘trusted’ WHO that has been caught editing medical advice to keep up with propaganda circulated on social media. Two prominent examples come to mind. The first is their flip-flopping over mandatory mask-wearing after various world leaders put their careers on the line by interfering with constitutional rights. To justify medical mandates, the ‘science’ behind mask-wearing was altered by the WHO after the political decision to enforce them had been made. Warnings printed on the boxes of these masks still contradict the WHO’s advice.
The second and most concerning manipulation of information by the WHO relates to the long-held definition of herd immunity. Our medical understanding of herd immunity has not changed since the arrival of Covid19. What has changed is the effectiveness of the vaccine in relation to the grand promises made about it by politicians who used its existence to initiate financially devastating lockdowns.
Both of these releases are by the same department at the WHO (the emphasis in red is mine for clarity):
9th June, 2020: Herd Immunity is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection. This means that even people who haven’t been infected or in whom an infection hasn’t triggered an immune response, they are protected because people around them who are immune can act as buffers between them and an infected person. The threshold for establishing herd immunity for Covid19 is not yet clear.’
13th November, 2020: ‘Herd Immunity’, also known as ‘population immunity’, is a concept used for vaccination, in which a population can be protected from a certain virus if a threshold of vaccination is reached. Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not exposing them to it. Read the Director-General’s 12 October media briefing speech for more detail.
The second statement from the WHO erased the natural phenomena of herd immunity – which remains the dominant method by which human populations overcome disease – and replaced it with an absolute mandate to vaccinate. The true definition of herd immunity survives with people who remember studying it prior to the edit and anyone in possession of medical books that cannot be so easily manipulated.
It doesn’t help that these institutions in charge of reality are headed up by some of the world’s shonkiest people.
When asking questions about why the WHO has acted inconsistently and bizarrely concerning China’s role in the pandemic, it is worth noting that China played an instrumental role in putting its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, into power. His ascent was vocally opposed due to positions held within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) – an ethnically-based party that has been the dominant force in Ethiopian politics for nearly thirty years. Tedros served as Health Minister despite the regime being recognised as a serial offender against human rights.
In an open letter against Tedros, it was noted that inside an eight-month period, eighty thousand Ethiopians were imprisoned in gulags run by the TPLF where they were tortured for holding a different political opinion. Party officials stole billions from public and state-run projects. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the current Prime Minister as of 2018, later admitted that the regime Tedros served under was essentially a terrorist state.
Tedros’ own actions were called into question regarding his handling of a Cholera epidemic – which he incorrectly renamed as ‘Acute Watery Diarrhoea’ even after Cholera was confirmed. A letter signed by the Amhara Professionals Union suspected this inaccuracy related to Tedros covering up a public health crisis to protect the tourist industry – an action which prevented aid organisations from intervening. The open letter further accused Tedros of actively marginalising health care treatment based on ethnicity, resulting in a disproportionate mortality rate among the Amhara people.
This is the man Silicon Valley allows to fact-check your opinion. In addition, Big Tech is heavily invested in the pharmaceutical industry and does not disclose its financial interest in the silencing of information regarding side effects that could harm its profits.
The control that these corporations exert over our access to information has gone far enough that it may never be unpicked.
We are now at the point where the facts of history are so distorted that activists can claim, without contest, that the months of Antifa and Black Lives Matter riots were entirely peaceful, then use this false claim to validate their censorious reaction to the ‘unprecedented’ Capitol Hill riots.
Fearing that their despicable actions would be covered up, I kept a sample of the direct incitement to violence propagated on Twitter by activist groups it publicly endorsed. You can view the archive here – including images of burning public buildings and captions that read: ‘this is what justice looks like’, ‘all pigs burn’ and ‘riot 2020 – burn this motherfucker down – eat the rich’.
The manipulation of truth within our civilisation is nearly impossible to believe. We already know that you can convince people of fabricated facts if you bombard them with enough marketing material from certified sources – especially if it supports their preferred world view.
The twenty-four hour news cycle that created a heightened sense of drama to pull ratings, has transformed into a full-time propaganda house. The media are over-feeding the goldfish as they swim around in stagnant water.
Why would anyone, including Silicon Valley, seek to corrupt the story of humanity?
Simply put, it is to install a political party into government who will not punish them for breaking antitrust legislation or the Communications Decency Act – both of which carry serious penalties if convicted. Big Tech corporations are free to continue making money in their lofty oligarchy while a political party has solidified its position in the absence of opposition.
In truth, politics has become the law, with information as its accomplice.

rewriting ash’s intro post since i link it on his plots page so that the info’s up to date since my last rewrite is over two years old. i added quite a bit about his personality/characterization, so feel free to read it but also feel equally free to ignore it.
tw: mention of depression/anxiety
ashton taeyong kwon, born in san francisco, california on december 24, 1995, and was raised there until age 13
his stage name is taeyong, but friends call him ash. he’s learned to respond to taeyong tho and doesn’t mind fans and acquaintances calling him that; he just doesn’t really like being called ashton unless you’re his actual mom and he will generally make his distaste known if you do that. fans don’t really know he goes by ash in his private life so they call him taeyong and he’d like to keep it that way. (he’s not a fan of fans pretending to have a closer relationship with him than fan-artist... lmao)
was a musical baby from birth so he started taking piano, dance, and guitar lessons pretty early and fell in love with all three
auditioned for bc entertainment’s global audition in los angeles for fun more than anything else as a dancer. he didn’t know a ton about korean music (or korean language) but figured it couldn’t hurt since he knew he wanted to pursue a music career
won a contract offer and decided to go for it with his parents’ approval, so he moved to seoul by himself at 13
he knew very little korean, so he was kind of isolated as a trainee and was really lonely. his parents probably shouldn’t have let him move his life overseas alone at such a young age and on such short notice knowing his personality, but they kinda wanted to live the childfree life again since they had him so young and without plans to have a kid
(his parents are good parents for the most part, though! he loves them to death and they’re very loving and supportive, they’re just the types that didn’t plan to have a kid until it happened on accident)
by the time he debuted, he knew korean well enough to get by but he did have some attitude scandals when they first debuted because he was trying to overcompensate for not being 100% fluent
bc decided his image should be more ~broody and artsy~ to avoid more attitude scandals. since then, it’s evolved into james dean-esque bad boy heartthrob, but for the longest time his image was pretty much being quiet which led to him not being super popular until he eventually started to shape his own solo career (so he now has a lot of akgaes)
things were going pretty well for him for a while ! knight was doing great and yeah maybe he was a little overworked but he was performing ! which is what he wanted ! right ? right ?????
all hell broke loose on valentine’s day in 2016 when one rather minor dating rumor released by a media outlet led to a much bigger scandal which originated in fan communities through “leaked” pictures of him out with other female celebrities in common date locations or, in one case, entering a hotel together on more than one occasion
antis quickly ran with the narrative of him being a player/womanizer/serial dater/cheater, etc. and further “evidence” appeared on fan communities like unsubstantiated “eyewitness” stories and convenience store receipts and it took a big toll on his reputation despite the company coming out with a statement denying everything and claiming he was only friends with the women
it became a big mess and he tried to put on a strong face but in reality it tore him up because now everyone was talking shit about him online and trying to make his private life their business and he ended up in a Really Dark Place
was pretty much dungeoned outside of knight activities for about eight months before he was made one of the members of the white knight sub unit to get him back in the public’s graces which worked on a minor level. he got his first solo activities (osts) around this time as well to test out public response.
in 2017, got caught with another female idol at a convenience store at night which sparked dating rumors, but those were more easily dismissed. late that year, he got in a scandal for causing a commotion when he was wasted outside of a club in tokyo and called a female friend to pick him up from the club... not his best move.
2018 was the year of being criticized for being lazy on stage and allegedly having an attitude problem with fans during fan signs. was a bad look, but the instances causing the scandal were mainly a result of his poor mental health (depression and extreme anxiety) he was dealing with as a result of making his solo debut amidst quite a lot of online hate.
so yeah he made his solo debut in late 2017 and has had a steady career as a solo artist (he’s dropped four full albums and several promoted or non-promoted singles) and a model for endorsements and cfs (his biggest and longest-term deal has been with calvin klein, and that’s become a part of his Brand now i would say — the sexy, modern, all-american image of calvin klein fits his public image to a t) since then. he and bc have worked very hard to redeem his public image and he hasn’t had a scandal in like three years, during which time he’s had six number one singles, so he’s not public enemy number one anymore and his past scandals tend to be more of a footnote to people who aren’t actively his antis lmao
he also had a viral fancam in october 2020 that went viral for him being sexy and Very Into singing you know i’m no good by amy winehouse (because he hates himself </3)... sexy king who has internalized issues with being sexualized that he kinda has to deal with since that’s a big part of his image and also continuously gets rewarded in his career for his Public Self-Hatred Self-Flagellation... anyway
has also done a lot of work as a songwriter/producer since his solo debut for himself and others and that’s his main passion right now. this man does not leave his home studio a lot
doesn’t have much say in knight’s music but he’s fine with that since he’s pretty much over knight. would throw a party if knight disbanded today and considers other knight members co-workers over friends for the most part.
has major depressive disorder and an anxiety disorder (the former is diagnosed, the latter isn’t officially but ash knows something is up there, he just hasn’t seen anyone with the capacity to officially diagnose him) and insomnia and those took a really bad toll on him for a while and still do but he’s actively seeing a therapist again as of mid-2020 and is trying to handle those situations better
ummmmm, his main personal interest is music, he has an impulsive/rebellious streak for days, and he’s a hopeless romantic who believes his own personal search for love is hopeless
his main motivation is just ?? to find happiness that he doesn’t think he’s really felt in his adult life but he also doesn’t think he deserve it so :/ is also very driven by his desire to have a long-term impact on the world and to Mean Something
his biggest fears are heights, not meaning anything to anyone, and The Inevitability Of Oblivion
he hates being Known . he’s extremely private. doesn’t let anyone know about his relationships and tends to be weirdly private about his friendships as well. doesn’t think anything he does is anyone else’s business unless he personally makes it their business lmao
a hufflepuff who could have also been considered for gryffindor tbh but would choose hufflepuff
infj-t (”the advocate”) - “they tend to approach life with deep thoughtfulness and imagination. their inner vision, personal values, and a quiet, principled version of humanism guide them in all things.”
i used to call him neutral good but i honestly think he’s become chaotic good
melancholic
type 4w5 (”the bohemian” / “the free spirit”) - “four wing fives fear having no impact on the world. they may be reserved, but they seek recognition and admiration. they desire their own personal identity, and may retreat within themselves to discover who they really are. free spirits tend to defend themselves either by withdrawing from others or adapting characteristics of loved ones.”
that’s all really but i can talk about him for hours if anyone ever wants to know more about him

Headlines of multiple news sites, trending hashtags, and seemingly hundreds of threads in online forums center around the topic that goes viral the day after. With SoundWave wasting no time to act subtly, choosing to take a blunt rebuttal of the independent release of music, they announce a separation of SUGA from the label. Without offering much other than the central reasoning in the official statement attributing a lack of loyalty, and openly rebellious attitude in the way of involving his personal relationships into his music without consent of the company, Yoongi’s public reputation takes a giant strike.
The primary attitude of his fanbase is startled confusion, as is similarly the feelings of pop culture commenters, who all agree that this action made by SoundCloud seems incredibly rash considering how high of status the title SUGA has in the music industry. A threshold of rumors contaminate social websites, all trying to gauge underlying motivations for the company’s decision to completely drop Min Yoongi from the label, feeling like there has to be more words each side could make but holds back.
With slowly passing weeks of conversation stirring faster from the sensationalized wonder that accumulates in the silence of both involved parties, fandoms grow impatient. A future tour scheduled to begin early next year is obviously squashed, and the subtle hints of new music thrown far from any burner of focus. Worry holds a multitude of loyal fans who are eager for clarification from their favorite idol, but no answers are clearly given. Blurry images of Yoongi to and from SoundWave only serve to prove that there are talks going on, especially when sightings of him and Taehyung begin growing consistent as well as thought to be moving vans relocating assumed sound equipment.
Naturally, frustration builds. Latching in tight grips onto every instance your name or image appears on the internet, angry shouts question your involvement with this entire ordeal. Confused as people are, they have little doubt that you deserve the bulk of blame for this dissent between Yoongi and SoundWave. After all, everything had always seemed steady in growth for SUGA’s career before your public involvement with him.
You realize this isn’t true. So much of the situation still lingers in the darkness, far from cameras and microphones to state the severity of everything that led the sequence of events to this point. You know that this whole problem isn’t entirely your fault, but it feels like it. Words cling to your psyche every time you try to peruse even the filtered social media feed of those you follow on instagram, but the comments still remain and grow on every one of your own posts, making you delete the app after only three days into the chaotic situation.
Apologies become common, though usually squashed within your reply to whenever Yoongi tells you them. Worry brims in his eyes just as well as his chest every time he notices anything off in your expressions that relate to all of the responses online. You’re quick to state that this isn’t his fault either, and not to worry about the silence he’s forced to keep while legal affairs are being handled. You’ve already settled yourself with the high chance that he won’t ever be able to make a statement that gives out the picture, just like you won’t ever be able to without losing every royalty you have.
While the online response does burn on your nerves, you can calm yourself by remembering it will eventually blow over to a new topic. It could take a lot of time, but eventually you’ll be able to not be the villain in every assumed narration of Yoongi being fired from SoundWave. Instead, concern wraps around any thoughts you have towards a new job.
With your work history visibly clean of any ink on your resume, you don’t have much to say to combat the fact. And as such you simply use your degree as well as projects from when you were a college student to talk yourself up. But you aren’t naive-- you realize that the gap of time from you receiving your diploma to the current date unease potential employers.
At this point, you’re no longer surprised. The man sitting across from you sits tapping his pen on papers in front of him. They’re spread in a controlled mess on a folder you brought. His eyes scan the words over, but because of the minute hand on the clock behind him reaching a new number, you’re inclined to believe the silence so far isn’t favorable.
Answering the initial questions isn’t usually difficult. In fact, you believe you win over a few uncertain glances in the way you speak with experience, but any opinion gained usually diminishes at the skinny portfolio you present. Every time you’ve passed it, you also feel underwhelmed by the humble sight of it, garnering none of the weight you should have the thin wings filled with. All of that is within your mind.
All of the tension in your mind fills more and more, contemplating what there is to take away from your meager showings of visible experience. This tension comes to a throbbing disappointment when the majority of those who have looked at the portfolio mention Yoongi’s name under their breath.
A large part of you becomes increasingly defensive from these tiny comments. Controlling your mouth from blurting questions in reply to their intentions is a difficult task, especially when the issues have been consistent. Multiple misinterpretations veil over the actual situation underneath the media’s depictions and what your residual contractual obligations to SoundWave will let you fix.
The man’s eyebrows furrow, his head tilting as something he sees perplexes him. You don’t openly react, simply sitting in the chair, legs not particularly tensely poised on the floor and your back only erect enough to be formal. Posture forgot a few interviews ago in favor of knowing glances at the employers body languages when reading through. This subtle confused realization on his face is familiar, but you smile politely as he gets up stating he needs to step out for a moment. As though he’s the first one to go ask questions about you to other people.
Walking into the lobby from the small meeting room, you do little more than sigh, reaching to rub your shoulder as you contemplate your next action. The man’s voice when he came back to the room and stated you’ll get contact in the future if they’d like to explore job opportunities was entirely monotone, and you can’t even be offended by the fact at this point.
Still, reality weighs on your shoulders, growing uncomfortably nagging, and at quickening paces when televisions like the one hanging on the opposite wall post pop news stations with Yoongi’s pictures and titles of dissention between himself and SoundWave.
“Oh,” A voice from the side disrupts the settling glare in your eyes. Softening your expression to one of surprise you turn your head as a figure comes to you. A smile on her face that seems disingenuous, but fitting when matched with the consistent brand name on each article of clothing apparent. “It was Y/N, right?”
In the medley of companies you set out to try landing jobs at, you didn’t take into consideration their current idols. More interested in just getting a place to continue working. But as Seulgi approached you from the way of the elevators, there’s a piece inside of you somewhat glad you’re likely to be rejected from this one. “Yeah.”
“What a coincidence to run into you here.” She says as she places her phone in her handbag. “Looking for work? Heard that you’ve taken a chance at the music production world.”
For the sake of pleasantry, you don’t irritably sigh from having to deal with this immediately following an unsatisfying industry. Instead just shrug your shoulder, “Something like that.”
“Guess it hasn’t been going well,” You’re unable to stop your eyebrows from narrowing at her, but Seulgi is unhindered from your evidently growing annoyance. “It’s a hard thing getting through scandals, especially when you don’t have anything to show for yourself.”
“Such a hard thing that you didn’t mind shoving your boyfriend into it.” You roll your eyes, head shaking as you start to walk away.
“Well, actually,” She catches up to your pace, overlapping you to cut off your trec to the front doors. “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Hoseok could use a hand, right? If you want to try to get some work, why not ask him? Independent work is good to help build a resume-- though, I guess Hoseok’s reputation and Yoongi’s current one don’t make companies feel comfortable-”
“What are you trying for here?” Your tone causes a falter of expression in Seulgi’s face, shifting it into a muted shock. Her smile replaces itself with pursing lips, then eventually the picturesque way she poses her shoulders also deflates. Appearing much less superficial, though now openly tired with frustration from the little act she tried to play with you.
“What? I can’t try and do a nice thing for my ex?”
“Ex that you threw under the bus.” Unhesitant. You cross your arms. “Why in the world would I think you’re not trying to gain something right now too?”
“You’re just like Yoongi--I get the relationship now.” She sighs, playing with her hair as her eyes trail off to nowhere. “Well, the relationship you ended up getting yourself after all.”
Your arms tense over your front, quietly startled that she seems aware of the false beginning with your relationship with Yoongi, and even acknowledging that it’s currently real. Part of you wants to question how she’s found out the tidbit of information, though it’s not a top concern of yours. The small fact that she has methods to get information throughout the industry is odd, but you doubt it needs to be a worrisome issue.
“Anyways, I was just offering a suggestion. Three songs aren’t going to cut it to get top companies like this one to let you in.” As if you needed her to say that when the past week has only been proof of that. Seulgi adjusts the hoodie she wears so that it no longer falls off a shoulder, and her eyes appear introspective for the moment of silence before speaking again. “You’re not going to get anywhere without stepping on a few people along the way. You can’t play along with all the rules and expect to succeed.”
If her tone remained snarky, you would have shot a comment in return, as the instant thought in your brain relates Seulgi’s words to her actions against Hoseok in the past. However, the simplistic way she spoke was calm, almost bordering into a somber timbre hidden beneath the surface. At that moment you feel like you see something inside of that shadow, but you don’t have the liberty of pondering it.
“Seulgi, I thought you were using the big dance studio right now.” A voice enters into the conversation, making Seulgi’s head turn back towards the entrance. Looking beyond her, you see a face you again would have expected if you took any consideration to the companies you were skipping through for interviews. “Oh,” Jeongguk’s eyes widen, catching sight of you, a smile forming as he speaks on in happy surprise, “Y/N! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”
“Hi, Jeongguk.” You give a little smile and nod as a greeting.
“Yeah, I’m late.” Seulgi speaks up while she takes a step to begin a smooth leave, eyeing Jeongguk then you in curiosity of how there’s a mutual connection. But her final words have nothing to do with questions. “Sorry about that whole thing at my party, by the way. Taking your date and all. Just getting a conversation Yoongi owed me.”
Her vague insinuation makes your eyes narrow, following her figure as she casually goes. Already knowing the content of the conversation she had with Yoongi, you’re left to assume that she speaks in a way to ingrain seeds of uncertainty or jealousy under your skin, but all the needless comment does is further you from any positive opinions of Seulgi.
“Something about that seemed hostile.” Jeongguk states as the two of you watch Seulgi disappear down a hall. Instead of screaming out intelligibly from the frustration of your day so far, you just exhale a long sigh, turning your head back towards Jeongguk. His mouth curls into a slightly uneasy smile, not sure of what he just stumbled in on, “Everything okay?”
“I can’t wait to go home and sleep, to be honest with you.” You admit, trying to get humor into your voice, but you’re sure your expression betrays any chance of a joking ambiance as Jeongguk slowly nods bouncing his long locks of soft, warm-toned pink. “Your band is going to be performing at the river festival this weekend, right? Saw online.”
“Yeah, we have a set in the late evening. You going?” His demeanor is wholly casual, pronounced further in the relaxation of his shoulders and lazily situated hands in the pockets of his big hoodie.
“I would, but now’s not really the best time for me to be doing much out.” You smile as your eyebrows furrow a bit. For a moment you consider the fact that he may not know anything, as you recall him not being one to peruse comment sections of social media sites. But as Jeongguk’s lips cast into a frown, he recalls the news your words refer to,
“Oh, right; I heard about that all.” He bites his lip, while removing a hand from the confines of his pocket to push back hair from his face. “Actually, I’ve been out of the country with my group for almost six months now, and, it’s not really my place to ask, but have you been okay since,” He pauses, quickly taking a scan around the area like others may be listening in. “Well, you know.”
You nod your head, understanding that he means to inquire about your state of mind since breaking things off from Jimin at the beginning of the year. “For awhile I really wasn’t,” You admit, but find yourself able to smile as you continue on with full assurance, “But I’m more than okay now. My career may be sort of crazy, but I have people that care about me, so I’m fairing a lot better than I would’ve ever thought.”
“That’s good.” Jeongguk smiles, and parts of you are sure that perhaps he’s even the smallest bit sad that there isn’t hesitation in your voice because his friendship with Jimin would likely root for the fact. But he’s not unfair in that regard, always having been a supportive, close friend of Jimin, but not to the extent of harboring ill sentiment about things like this. “If you’re looking for song writing work just let me know; my band liked the three tracks you and Yoongi released, and I always thought it’d be cool to work with you on lyrics anyways.”
“What?” You blurt in surprise, eyes widening from the easygoing proposition, “Wait, really?”
“Yeah,” Jeongguk grins in return, wondering silently if the offer is odd because of your reaction. “I mean, why not, right?”
“Even if I’m not an employee here?” You question, still in disbelief at how simply he’d asked for even bits of collaborative work in the future. Where you have been learning to anticipate a lot of hesitation, and even flat out refusal from all of your interviews so far, Jeongguk breaks the cycle out of nowhere. Perhaps you should not be as excited from the simple prospect as you are, but you’re unable to stop yourself from the little success making you vibrant with joy.
“You don’t need to be an employee of any company, Y/N, your skills already speak for themselves to me.”
When you step outside of the building, Jeongguk’s words remain at the forefront of your mind. You type a location on the map digitally showing on your phone screen, unconsciously setting up a call for a taxi, but you think only of the small piece of hope given to you from the offer. The more you consider it, you believe there exists a deeper lesson from that small interaction. It’s like he said to you; the company isn’t as important as your own skills.
You bite your lip, thinking of any contacts made throughout the years. Frankly, not many people beyond SoundWave met you because of your job, but there were still some small acquaintances you’ve gained. Some friends as well, though fewer than you could count with your fingers perhaps. It’s unlikely many would jump at the opportunity to work with you in light of the current news, but perhaps there’s something to consider down that avenue.
Your spine tightens slightly, and suddenly you feel overly aware of the area around you. You lift your eyes from your phone screen to across the street beyond cars going along to wherever. People walk normally as the beginnings of evening traffic occur as they would any day of the business week. With a small shake of your head, you ignore the suspicion in your nerves, letting yourself check notifications on your phone instead as the taxi descends towards you from a few blocks away.
Alerting Yoongi that you’re going to head to his apartment to help him move around items delivered from the company, you eventually press the lock on your phone screen and turn your attention down the road to see if you can spot your taxi’s license. In the same direction is the stairwell into a subway station with its constant flood of people in and out that never remain in the area longer than it takes them to walk. But perched with their elbows on railings overlooking the descent into the subway is a small group of three similar in age to the ones assumed to follow you to Namjoon’s cafe.
Your eyes linger on their figures for a noticeable amount of time, and you don’t believe them to care that they’ve been spotted. You bite your inner cheek, and look back to the taxi app for the time of arrival. Your stomach knots, but you try not to focus on it, because of this occurrence being more regular in the past couple of weeks. If you kept your mouth shut and thoughts from roaming frantically, it would be over just as soon as you stepped into the taxi.
A bump on your shoulder startles you, shaking your heart around in the ribcage, as your throat assumes the worst by trapping air. A businessperson continues along, however, simply going up the road as they chatter away on their phone, completely unaware of the tiny collision. You swallow the air back down, squeezing your phone tightly as it vibrates a tiny series of beats to signify the taxi is soon to arrive.
As you look on at the back of the random person, you notice more eyes in your direction. These ones from a college-age duo, you think. But they’re clearly focused on you, walking on the sidewalk in your direction. Your leg muscle tightens, becoming highly alert of the phone’s they have clutched close to their chests with the camera lenses evident.
The abrupt stop of brakes in front of you brings you back to your current position as does a quick honk from a car bothered by the stop of your taxi as it drives around. Without hesitation you enter inside, stating an affirmative as the driver asks if you were the one with the given destination on his GPS. You can’t contain the sigh of relief flooding out of your lungs as he merges into the flow of traffic and away from the individuals whose walk stopped to stare at the leave of the taxi.
You have high doubts that if the people were truly fans that they would berate you or angrily yell, but nonetheless you didn’t want the onslaught of questions they more likely had prepared to be said in civil voices. You already had the displeasure of weaning along a forceful and awkward conversation on a subway train days earlier. Leading you to start avoiding that means of transportation entirely now.
Arriving at Yoongi’s front door, your finger presses to ring the bell. Listening to the muted sound on the inside you feel your shoulders jumping ever so slightly at the sound, but you shake your head to rid away the sensitivity. Really no one had been belligerent towards you, you were overthinking any of the things that could have happened. Another twitch in your shoulders induces with the knob twisting and with it the door opens to reveal Hoseok whose face eventually slips into a pout,
“Wow, don’t look so disappointed.” He teases you as you roll your eyes and walk inside. “You should be thanking me since I did most of the heavy lifting before you got here.”
“Thanks,” You smile at him in an overly polite manner that causes Hoseok to scoff and shake his head in amusement. “I’m sure you were more than willing to since Yoongi offered to get you a fancy dinner as payment-”
“Wait, don’t tell him that; I was going to avoid it.” You turn towards the way of the bedrooms as Yoongi walks into the living area from it, hair tousled from moving furniture and a loose t-shirt hanging off his shoulders comfortably. You watch him grin as Hoseok shouts an irritated rebuttle about Yoongi’s deflection of payment for helping. As Yoongi comes to a stop a mere couple of feet from you his eyes look towards you and before you know it the teeth peeking from his joke drift away while his brows furrowed with concern, “Angel, what’s wrong?”
You shake your head, trying to disburse the worry in your shoulders that you apparently had not been successful to not think about. Wordlessly Yoongi steps closer, initiating a hug that you finish by clinging your arms around his torso.
Hoseok frowns in confusion since you had seemed fine when he opened the door, but glancing up at Yoongi whose eyes are just as unsure of the problem Hoseok decides it’s probably the result of some kind of build up. “‘m going to get that last box unpacked.”
“Thanks.” Yoongi says as his hands rub trails on your back, waiting for Hoseok to leave the room before speaking up again, “Baby, do you want to talk about it?”
“No, I’m just overthinking something.” You mumble against the cotton soaked in the familiar scent of laundry detergent. With a small sigh you adjust yourself to look up towards Yoongi whose attentive gaze meets yours. Gently he presses a small kiss against your forehead, settling his hands on your sides to give a little comforting squeeze.
“Was it more people following you around?”
“Yeah,” You hide your face against his chest again as you put the problem in the air. “It really, really wasn’t anything much. I just want a hug. It’s been a long day because of the whole job interview session parade I went on too.”
“I can do hugs,” Yoongi nods before perching his chin atop your head. The moment lingers on, granting a warming comfort as you remain encapsulated in Yoongi’s arms. But he can’t help a final, quiet question that is likely the reason for the rate of his heartbeat in your ear. “Did anyone do anything to you, angel?”
“No.” You squeeze your arms around him. “I doubt any of them really would. They probably just want to get information. It’s just uncomfortable.”
“Yeah, it is.” Yoongi’s chest fills from the breath of an inhale as he thinks of all the other instances since news of him being let go from SoundWave released. “I’m sorry, angel, once all the paperwork is done, I’ll try and figure out something to say to the press about everything.”
“It’s okay, Yoon.” You pull away to press a pecking kiss against his lips. He notes your expression to be considerably calmer than minutes earlier. “Really, it’s okay. It’s not your fault anyways. But besides that all, I do have some good news.”
“Oh, yeah?” He keeps his hands on your waist while your arms drop from their gentle encapture of his frame. Your quick nod matching the beginnings of a smile on your lips give Yoongi more cheerfulness as well, “Tell me then, sweetie.”
“I saw Jeongguk earlier and he said he’d be willing to work on songwriting together sometime.” You explain, allowing the excitement you felt then to take over the bulk of your tone. Inquisitively Yoongi’s head tilts,
“Jeon Jeongguk? Where did you see him at?”
“His company after I got interviewed--oh, right, I don’t think I’ve mentioned to you I know him.” You ramble along earning a chuckle from Yoongi as he nods to that fact as well. “Well, I met him through Jimin a couple of years ago, but he’s really nice. It was just an innocent offer on his part.”
“Yeah, I believe that-- he’s really easygoing.” Yoongi nods, turning his head to the hallway as yours looks in the same direction at the sound of Hoseok cursing as he hops on one foot into view while his other foot stays clenched between his two hands.
“I hit my toe on the corner of the door into the room-” He says with a wincing voice, “Didn’t mean to interrupt the emotional fest-- it just really hurt, and I think I should be owed more than just a fancy dinner because of it-”
“If it keeps you from suing me.” Yoongi shakes his head and refrains from laughter like the kind leaving your mouth as you listen to their conversation. Yoongi goes back to resting his head on yours, this time pressing his cheek on top of your scalp when you hug him once more. “But I’m picking the place to eat at.”
“That doesn’t even make sense if it’s supposed to be a payment to me.” Hoseok scoffs as he dramatically hobbles to the couch where he collapses himself onto it. “Y/N, if you asked your best friend to help you move your heavy equipment and this same friend stubs his toe doing it-- and this best friend and you are also getting into a partnership, would you just give him a dinner as payment?”
“Partnership?” You repeat as your eyes narrow, honing in on the one word that slipped into Hoseok’s monologue. “And no I’d buy my friend at least a house.”
“See!”
“A house,” Yoongi murmurs through pouting lips as Hoseok claps his hands to your method of penance. “He already has a nicer apartment than mine-”
“Wait, what did you mean about a partnership, Hoseok?” You ask, poking Yoongi’s stomach to get him to quiet from the tickling sensation. Hoseok actively twiddles his thumbs instead of a verbal. He glances towards Yoongi who responds to his antics with a sigh as he tugs himself off the comfort of hugging you.
“He and I were thinking we’d start our own label.”
“What!” Your eyes grow wide glancing towards Hoseok then back to Yoongi. “Your own music label? Like an idol company too?”
“Well, yeah.” Yoongi says without a lot of conviction as he shrugs his shoulders. “I don’t know how many people would actually want to become an idol through us, but at least for Hoseok and I it would be a good way to keep doing music. And on our own terms.”
You stand looking at him awestruck, not at all anticipating the two of them to come to this type of business plan for the future. Frankly, you weren’t sure at all what Yoongi intended to do without SoundWave, but you would have sooner assumed he would simply relocate to another company. The requests for him to do so would no doubt flock after a month or two of the current news becoming history.
“Hey,” Hoseok gets up from the couch, phone in hand as the two of you look over to him. “I’m meeting a friend in a while, so I’ll get out of here. Don’t forget that you owe me a really fancy meal-”
“I get it, I won’t.” Yoongi rolls his eyes as he follows Hoseok towards the front door to see him off. You simply watch, still in a stupor from their casual way of telling you that their idea is to create their own fucking company. You wave at Hoseok as he shouts out a goodbye to you and walks out the door. Yoongi turns towards you as it shuts with an electronic click, finding you still baffled by the news. He rubs the back of his neck as he returns towards you. “We sound crazy?”
“No,” You shake your head and let it tilt as your imagination takes over to see an outcome where the two of them operate a successful idol company. With their production skills and overall talent with music, it didn’t seem far fetched that they at least make a small company that runs well. “I think you both should do it.”
Yoongi smiles gently at the hopeful gleam in your eyes. His hand falls from toying with the small hairs on the back of his neck to find itself entangling your own appendage with a delicate hold. “You’re free to do anything you want, angel, but I was thinking--and Hoseok agreed-- that you could join us and be a producer if we make a company.”
“Me?” Your voice barely mumbles the response, eyes struck wide in surprise at his offer.
“You don’t have to at all--I really understand if you don’t want to take the risk of it instead of finding a place that’s already settled, but,” Yoongi bites his lip, fiddling with your hand as he holds it. He finds your eyes as he sweetly smiles “It can be an option for you.”
With the two happy surprises of the day swimming in your chest, you stand in a stunned quiet as you take them in. For Yoongi and Hoseok, despite their respective scandals, you don’t have any doubt that they could definitely make something out of this idea for themselves. Especially happy about Yoongi being able to do as he wants for himself if they start a company. He’d be completely in control of his representation in the way that he hasn’t had ever since his debut.
And his offer gives the same freedom for yourself to create songs like you’d always wanted as well.
“Of course, I’m sure there’s a lot we have to do to get everything going, so really don’t feel bad about saying no-”
Interrupting his sentence by pressing your lips onto his chattering mouth, You let your arms wrap around his neck, silently grateful for Yoongi's hands steadying the two of you by finding a firm grip on your hips. “I say yes.”
Anticipation and excitement ricochets throughout your chest, exuding outwardly in your smile that you find Yoongi quickly returning with a growing grin. Running his hips in lips trails along your sides, he keeps silent in favor of kissing you again, practically bruising your lips with his own. Your hands mesh into soft locks of black hair, keeping Yoongi held in place as the kiss deepens into an oxygen depriving attachment.
Allowing time for air only when your mouth gasps as Yoongi’s hands find your backside and with a squeeze pulls your waist against his own, your eyes open along with his as you both take in quick sips of air, momentarily frozen from continuing action. Yoongi’s jaw clenches shut as you very obviously allow your hips to grind friction. He watches the beginnings of a smirk take over your expression, and stops the teasing attitude to dip his lips down to your neck.
There his trails tiny molten kisses along the skin, searching until your fingertips curl against his scalp and a small whimper casts out of your mouth. Attaching to the spot, his mouth blisters in a garden meant to flourish red and purple by next sunrise, and his hands continue to press into your ass riding up the fabric of your skirt as a moan escapes your lips, “Yoongi-”
“Do you want me to stop, angel?” He asks with a rough timbre the contrasts the soft ministrations he trails from the love bite to reach your mouth once more. Kissing the outline of your jaw, he hums against the skin waiting for your reply which comes as your hands remove from his hair to cup his face and bring his lips back to yours,
“Not at all.”

So I was half-right.
Instead of misogyny it's Nazis because of course it is.
If you spend a lot of time in certain Extremely Online corners of the internet ecosystem, you’ve likely stumbled onto #NoNutNovember, or just #NNN for short. An annual challenge encouraging men to refrain from masturbating (or even, for many, having any sex) for the month, No Nut November was initially created as a parody of internet-borne phenomena such as the Ice Bucket Challenge or Movember, skewering the silliness of viral internet challenges along with the more extreme claims made by proponents of NoFap, an anti-porn subreddit with half a million members. (According to one of the moderators of the NoNutNovember subreddit, /u/yeeval, the subreddit has no connection to NoFap, though the two are often conflated.)
For most participants, the challenge is essentially an excuse to shitpost, as well as tweet memes skewering some of the more exaggerated purported benefits of abstaining from masturbation. But there are many who take it seriously, with at least 52,000 people as of this writing diligently documenting their day-by-day progress (and setbacks) on the subreddit r/NoNutNovember. Per /u/yeeval, “I’d say 90% of the posts are from people actively participating and also there’s the occasional fallen member who stays on the subreddit for the community and laughs.”
On its surface, No Nut November is a fairly innocuous challenge: while it may seem silly to abstain from masturbation for virtually no reason, some of the memes are pretty funny, and a month of abstinence (whether it be from sex or masturbation) certainly isn’t going to kill anyone. u/yeeval says the goal isn’t to demonize porn or masturbation per se, but to prompt men to examine their own masturbation habits and whether or not they’re healthy. “In my opinion, most originally participate in NNN for the meme aspect of the challenge but as the days go on people begin to see how big their porn or masturbation dependency is,” he says.
"Neither of those things are bad or immoral in themselves but just like any outlet can become excessive in times of depression and loneliness.” Yet it would be naive to ignore that there’s significant overlap between the general anti-porn ideology behind NoFap — and, to a degree, No Nut November — and that of the far right, which has increasingly coopted the movement. (NoFap’s website states that, with the exception of a small number of users who may abstain for religious or moral reasons, they do not have an anti-masturbation stance.)
Because the challenge is  associated with abstaining from porn, some people associated with the movement have taken the extra step of harassing adult performers on social media, giving it an additional layer of troubling implications. “In the past [No Nut November] has always been like, ‘Oh, look at this ridiculous thing some people are participating in,'” says adult performer and director Casey Calvert. “This year, people [in the industry] are talking about, ‘Oh, actually this is connected to the far right and maybe we shouldn’t just be saying hahaha, No Nut November.'”
A new meme brings these implications into sharp relief. Coomer is a reference to a meme of an unkempt, skeezy-looking bearded man in a white tank top with vaguely Semitic features, accompanied by descriptive text like “doesn’t even know anything about politics,” “extremely aesthetic right arm (huge muscle),” and “has never heard of NoFap"
Tumblr media
It’s been circulating on 4chan for the past year, but Alex Hawkins, the vice president of the porn tube site xHamster, says he started seeing it in the replies on his company’s Twitter feed back in September, when presidential candidate Andrew Yang tweeted about limiting access to pornography. At first, “we didn’t really know what it meant and thought it was funny,” he tells Rolling Stone. Then, in late October, the coomer resurfaced thanks to a Twitter campaign led by a user named TeapotLad, in which users vowed to change their avatars to the coomer should they fail No Nut November. PewDiePie shouted out the campaign in a recent YouTube video, as did far-right YouTuber Paul Joseph Watson, who is perhaps best known for being one of the many extremist figures, including Milo Yiannopolous and Alex Jones, to be banned from Facebook. “No Nut November and the Coomer meme represent a deeper meaning,” he said in a tweet. “Porn is evil. It literally re-wires your brain and causes erectile dysfunction. Take the pledge. Don’t be a Coomer.”
The term has also been used in the context of “OK coomer,” a play on the “OK boomer” meme, in response to tweets critical of No Nut November or masturbation abstinence in general. “It’s positioned as this epic battle between the weak beta masturbators and the strong, alpha NoFappers,” says Hawkins.
Like most memes, “coomer” carries with it more than a tinge of irony, and it’s not always easy to determine whether it’s being used flippantly or to actually deride men who masturbate. But the implication is clear: masturbating is an urge that should be resisted at all costs. David Ley, PhD, a clinical psychologist and sex therapist who studies pornography and mental health, saw the meme after he tweeted his criticism of No Nut November, referring to it as “a creepy little smorgasbord of insecurity-driven hate with anti-Semitism, misogyny, and homophobia all rolled up in one,” he tells Rolling Stone. (Ley has partnered with the cam website Stripchat to do AMAs about sexual health, and plans to appear in one debunking some of the myths associated with No Nut November.)
The idea that there are significant health benefits from abstaining from masturbation is partially based on the (primarily internet-propagated) theory that semen retention is linked to an increase in testosterone and male virility, an idea that has been widely debunked. For the most part, however, the idea that masturbation is somehow feminizing is “rooted in extremely antiquated ideas of masculinity,” many of which are also promoted by far-right groups, says Ley. The Proud Boys, for instance, a far-right extremist group known for its propensity toward violence, has long advocated for its members to abstain from masturbation on the grounds that it boosts testosterone and makes them more appealing to women; indeed, founder Gavin McInnes gave a shoutout to NoFap in a 2015 article for the far-right publication Taki’s Magazine. (The organizers of NoFap have strongly refuted any connection to the Proud Boys.)
An even more extremist version of this far-right anti-masturbation philosophy has been promoted by David Duke, the former head of the Ku Klux Klan, who has propagated the conspiracy theory that Jews dominate the porn industry and use pornography as a way to control white men. On far-right threads on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, this sentiment is fairly widespread. “Jews not only control most of the pornography industry, they also rely on the goyim to maintain a routine of ejaculation in order to stay docile and non-violent,” one comment reads. Another shared a viral Pornhub tweet poking fun at viewers who’d failed No Nut November, writing, “the Jew mocks you as they poison the minds of millions.” (Pornhub is owned by the Canadian company MindGeek, the CEO of which, Feras Antoon, does not appear to be Jewish, even though there are numerous 4chan /pol/ threads speculating as such.)
This anti -Semitism is also often accompanied by healthy doses of homophobia and racism as well: on these threads, you’ll frequently see users deriding men who masturbate to heterosexual porn, on the grounds that being aroused by another man’s penis makes you gay (even if said penis is depicted going into a vagina). And because mainstream porn often features white women paired with black men, there’s also a virulently racist element to much of this discourse, such as the suggestion that interracial porn is intended to steer white women away from procreating with white men and toward men of color.
The irony of this strain of the anti-masturbation movement is that, while it’s ostensibly intended to fight the larger porn industry’s attempts to brainwash and emasculate white men, anti-masturbation ideology has historically been used as a tool by fascist figures to gain social control. Cultural stigma associated with masturbation, combined with the fact that pretty much everyone masturbates, invariably leads to a lot of men “developing a lot of internal shame,” says Ley. “And that makes them open to manipulation and social control.” As an example, he cited the National Socialist Party in 1930s Germany, which strongly discouraged Hitler Youth members from engaging in masturbation. Because anti-porn and anti-masturbation movements tend to be comprised of young heterosexual males, they could potentially be viewed by some on the far right as ideal recruitment grounds. The fact that something like No Nut November appears to be a joke on its face “appears to serve as this interesting front door recruiting kind of strategy to bring folks into this deeper, much more insidious and shaming movement,” says Ley.
Of course, it goes without saying that not everyone who participates in No Nut November or NoFap is a white supremacist or religious fundamentalist, and that the founders of these groups explicitly reject any suggestions of overlap between the two communities. u/yeeval says he has seen no hint of any anti-Semitic or misogynistic commentary on the subreddit, chalking any suggestions of Jewish porn conspiracy theories to “someone trying to make a bad / overtly offensive joke.” “NoNutNovember isn’t a political movement. We are not anti-porn. We are not anti-woman. We are not anti-masturbation or anti-sex,” he says. “In its most simple form NoNutNovember just a fun internet challenge that has grown in popularity due to many memes that circulate the internet…However, I also think that the reason that it has become so widespread is that it has given many the opportunity to look within themselves and realize that they might be relying on masturbation and porn for comfort.”
The  coomer meme is also, at least inherently, apolitical, says Alice Vaughn, host of Two Girls One Mic, a podcast about porn tropes. “The concept surrounding ‘Coomer’ is neither right nor left politically. The urge to shame those with higher sex drives is nothing new, and is a subject many are uncomfortable with, especially adolescents (which is predominately 4Chan’s user base),” she says. But the rise of “coomer,” with its distinctly conservative implications about male sexuality, would seem to refute that the anti-masturbation movement is totally innocent or entirely intended in jest. The fact that it’s often used in the context of “OK coomer,” a play on a meme intended to skewer boomers’ criticism of Gen Z, also indicates that this is primarily a youth-driven phenomenon. When you consider how younger generations have typically adopted a more healthy, progressive view of sexuality than previous ones, this doesn’t make a lot of intuitive sense — but it actually tracks with current data, which indicates that younger generations are having less sex, Ley says.
Usually, this phenomenon is attributed to male millennials and zoomers (members of Gen Z) spending more time watching porn, and to an extent this may be true; when it comes to determining the effects of pornography viewing on male sex lives, research is somewhat mixed. But it’s also just as likely that sociocultural factors like economic unrest and fear-mongering abstinence-only education have also played a role in these declining sexual activity rates. “We’ve spent decades telling these young kids be afraid of sex, and that only hereto monogamous sex is OK and moral,” says Ley. “Now all of a sudden they are really conflicted about sex and their own sexuality.”
That said, there’s also an awful lot of men who are not participating in No Nut November in earnest, and many more who aren’t participating at all. In an email to Rolling Stone, Pornhub vice president Corey Price said that traffic is virtually unaffected by No Nut November, and few of the adult performers Rolling Stone spoke with said that they hadn’t seen their engagement go down considerably during the month either. Considering that annual Pornhub traffic numbers are in the tens of billions, if there is indeed a wider porn conspiracy to sap men of their virility, that conspiracy appears to be working pretty well. But for those who are participating in the challenge, and may have stumbled along the way, Calvert has a comforting message: “I personally think No Nut November is very silly,” she says. “Not masturbating for a month does not make you a better man or a stronger man.”

J. August Richards has an exuberance about him.
He has good reason. The actor, known his more than 30 year career which has included roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Cosby Show, Angel, The Practice and more, just landed a leading role on the new NBC drama Circle of Dads. On April 20, he also rocked the internet by coming out of the closet as a gay man. The unplanned admission generated came in the context of discussing his Council of Dads role as Dr. Oliver Post, a gay, married African-American dad. The series follows a group of friends following the death of one of their friend Peter. Oliver, and several other men, come together to act as surrogate fathers to Peter’s children and to preserve the memory of their friend.
“I read your site every day!” Richards belts as we greet him on the phone. We warn him that we will need to use that quote in our piece. The two of us have made some time to chat about his coming out, the new show, and his experience as a queer, African-American working in Hollywood for more than three decades.
Council of Dads airs Thursdays on NBC.
So you’ve had an exciting few weeks. Exactly how are you feeling? What’s the state of your life?
Thank you for asking. Empowered.
Empowered?
Aligned. Clear about my purpose. That’s how I feel two weeks later. I will admit that I was on a bit of an emotional pendulum. In my imagination, there was a reaction that was the best reaction I could possibly get, which was supportive. But it exceeded that. Also I really did not expect it to go past my social media page. So that was a bit daunting. That was part of the emotional swing I was on.
Sure.
I had no idea that it would be picked up on various sites, which it was. And I didn’t even have a publicist at the time…
Oh my.
Yeah. So that’s how unplanned that was. I’ve hired one since because everything was going so far so fast that it was all a bit overwhelming. But when it went so viral, it made me feel like this emotional swing toward oh my God, why would you do that? No one even asked. That was the ultimate overshare. But fortunately, the pendulum has swung all the way back into the position of empowerment.
That’s so wonderful to hear. Now, when you describe it as an emotional pendulum, what are you doing as you walk around the house? How’s your mood shifting? What are you doing to take your mind off it all?
Yeah, it’s always surrounding a triggering question or triggering comment that I receive that really only triggered the fact that I was not expecting this attention. So that was the only thing that would scare me. It wasn’t negative at all. But, like, when people ask me, “Aren’t you afraid of how this will affect your career?” That question would really trigger me. I’ve obviously thought a lot about it. And that question doesn’t trigger me anymore.
I’ve talked to so many actors who have gone through a difficult coming out process and immediately have their agents or managers screaming “Why did you do that?” So it’s good to hear that it’s been so empowering.
I have a great agent. He’s been really supportive.
Now, you’ve said before that you’ve been out to people close to you for years. Have you had any blowback? People saying “why didn’t you tell me?”
No. Not one person. Anyone who needed to know, knew. And there were people who didn’t need to know that knew, just because they saw me out, or I went to a party. I’m living my life and doing whatever I want to do for the most part. People who know me, in my life, also know that’s not the kind of question I would entertain.
So let’s talk about your new show Council of Dads. Your role as Oliver, you’ve said, was part of what inspired you to go public. He’s a gay man married to another African-American man Peter, played by Kevin Daniels, and the couple has children. For you as an actor, what is it that speaks to you in a role where you realize it’s more than just a job? In other words, when the role changes you?
You know, honestly, it happens to me every single time.
Really?
Every single time, yeah. I think of it as my job to put something deeply personal to put on the line for myself. I have to find it, and I do with every role. This one is unique in that it pushed me up against a wall that I had created for myself. I think it served me when it had to. When I first started in the business, there were very few opportunities for a black actor.
Sure.
I jokingly say “I was too busy being black to be gay.”
But the industry has shifted enough to where there’s more LGBTQ representation and more black representation. And I just wasn’t mature enough as a human being to walk through life as a black gay man. Now, at 46, I have the confidence and the wisdom and the knowledge to be able to take it on. The reason I ended up talking about it publicly was that I saw a huge opportunity to be observant in a meaningful way, and I just could not pass it up. It was a very person decision. I wouldn’t be true to myself if I didn’t take the opportunity to continue a dialogue—it was started way before me. Black gay men, gay families—I would not have been happy with myself if I had not chosen to talk about it.
That speaks so well of you. One thing I really love about this show is the way it redefines community in a sense.
Yes.
There are right-wing voices that claim diversity is harmful, or focusing on it is harmful, that it’s all a myth. The series shows that community is defined by what is shared; in the case of the series, that’s a love for Scott Perry and his family. How do we encourage people to focus on what is shared, to accept one another?
Well, it oftentimes takes people knowing someone in a community, knowing someone that belongs to a community that is seen as “other” to break down that wall. Again, that goes back to the reason I decided to go public. The other great gift of coming out for me was that it made clear for me my true goal. I really want equality for all. I’m talking about groups that I belong to, and groups that I don’t belong to. Ultimately, we have to move toward a space where everyone can sit at the table equally. That’s one of the reasons I was so happy to be involved with this show. It has diversity, and it’s not cosmetic.
What do you mean by that?
It’s like there’s one of this and one of that. There are multiples of different in this world. As the season goes by, you’ll be able to understand even more what I mean by that. It really elevates the conversation about diversity in a way that I’m so proud of. You come home with Oliver & Peter. You come home with us, and a whole episode takes place in our house. So the other thing that attracted me to the show was that I’m not playing the “insert black gay guy here.” He’s a three-dimensional character. He’s not just the best friend. He has his own storyline. The character is not additionally marginalized by not giving him a full story.
I also love the way the show redefines masculinity.
Oooh! Mmhmm!
We have a trope in Western entertainment that fathers are either lovable buffoons like Homer Simpson or wisdom sages like Fred McMurray in My Three Sons. Either way, they are centers of authority and power. This show is different in that it shows men working together, sharing power, listening, conversing and making choices. It’s in the title: a council of dads. It’s not dictatorial patriarchy. Is that by conscious design, that Joan and Tony [series creators Joan Rater & Tony Phelan] had intended as much? Have you discussed it?
We’ve not talked about it, but I will say this: in developing the character one thing that you do as an actor is figure out the character’s super-objective.
Yes.
That means the one thing they want more than anything in life. It took me a while—call me slow—but I realized that what is important to Oliver is that he be a great father. That is the most important thing in his life. So I started to think about what makes a great father. I think the answer is different for each person depending on their father. So I think about Oliver’s past, and how his father did not accept him for who he was. He grew up in a household where he felt like an imposter, like love was conditional. He never got to fall into the arms of his parents and hear them say “You are ok as you are.”
Right.
So what makes a great father to Oliver is growing this invisible fence around the children where they are able to be themselves and thrive as who they are naturally, whatever that is. That’s what makes a great father to Oliver, and it’s a great gift that any parent can give their children.
Absolutely. As a working actor, I need to ask you about the cult of celebrity. In the social media age, actors are really encouraged to become a “brand” or a product to help promote their show. That includes putting private life on display. What is your experience dealing with that pressure? Is it fair to expect actors to perform on both sides of the camera, in essence?
Some don’t. There are still actors out there who don’t want to be stars, who don’t have social media at all. To a degree, I think it’s slightly a myth. Every job that I get there’s an actor in a pivotal role who is not on social media, or who didn’t have a big following. I don’t believe that a large social media following translates to viewers. If it did, Kim Kardashian would be in everything.
Lord help us.
So, like anything, you just have to decide who you want to be and rock out with that, win or lose. One of the places I’m at in my life is that I don’t feel like the world needs another f*cking celebrity.
[Laughter]
Nobody’s asking for one. I’m so tired of it. I’d just rather have an impact at some point in my life. If I can make the world a hair easier, or serve in the tiniest way, I’m so satisfied with that. The red carpeting thing is so played out to me. I’m so over it. So I think you’ve gotta make a choice about who you want to be, win or lose.
That’s great advice. So given the context of all of this, I also need to ask. This is a question that comes up a lot with actors I talk to. It came up with Billy Porter, with Nelson Lassiter, with Doug Spearman, and others. How can we encourage queer African-American men to come out and to feel safe in doing so?
That’s a big, big question. Number one, I’d say understanding. Just understand that it’s a lot to ask a person to own and take on another marginalized identity. As a black man moving through the world, you really have to live it to understand it: all of the concessions and adjustments that you have to make to the world just to get through your day. It’s a lot man, a whole lot. It’s a whole lot to ask people. I’m 46 now, and I said in another interview, if I had come out a day sooner, it would have been too soon.
Wow.
Only now do I feel like I have the understanding and the confidence and the clarity to move through the world as I do now. So the most important thing is understanding. I love the gay men in my life because they never pressured me to do anything. They only loved me and counseled me to be myself.
Beautiful.
Another way to help is to stand against racism. Working through the racism of our society might help people feel free to live in a world where they can feel like they can be themselves.
Amen to that. As a gay, African American man, what advice do you wish you could have had starting out in the business that you did not?
Actually I had wonderful mentors: African-American men who took me under their wings and advised me, counseled me, gave a call after auditions. Everyone showed up for me the same way they’re showing up for me now. My colleagues were the first ones to congratulate me.
That’s great.
But you ask me what I wish I could have known? That’s a difficult question. It was a different industry at that time. So I can’t answer that. I’ll have to think about it. It’s a great question.

Alba Gloriosa AU
Tumblr media
So… confession time. In the post-Volpina, pre-Chameleon glory days, I was a hardcore Lilanette shipper. I loved the idea of Mari feeling bad for what she did as Ladybug and befriending Lila only to discover that she really actually liked her when she wasn’t lying. I loved the slow burn and the bonding and all the funny, awkward moments as Lila became an anti-Chloe of sorts (loving Marinette and hating LB). And, despite everything that’s happened in the show, I have to admit that I still really like Lila’s character design -- I know we all make fun of her hair, but I actually think it’s really cute.
So, despite Chameleon and Ladybug and everything that’s happened since the start of season 3, there’s the niggling concept for a Lilanette au that just won’t leave me alone. I’m calling it the Alba Gloriosa AU. Here’s my pitch.
Starting after Volpina (ofc, I’m not gonna get near Chameleon with a ten-foot pole in this au), the school shuns Lila because someone recorded Ladybug telling her off at the park and it went viral. Marinette feels super bad, and introduces herself to Lila, offering to be her friend. Lila obviously thinks she’s joking or something and that the other shoe’s about to drop, but they eventually start a tentative friendship.
The first time Lila goes over to Mari’s house, she doesn’t know what to do. She knows that her Mom loves her, sure, but she’s never home. Most of the relationship that she has with her is through the sticky notes she leaves on the refrigerator. Tom and Sabine are just so warm and so caring and they listen to her and gosh, she’s supposed to look cool, she can’t cry --
She starts coming over a lot more, always seeming reluctant to leave. Eventually, the Dupain-Cheng’s figure out why and they give her lots of big hugs and tell her she can stay the night. The next day, Sabine and Tom roll up to the Italian embassy on a mission and talk to Lila’s mom. They tell her how lost and abandoned her daughter feels, assuring her that they know she’s trying her best, but maybe she could at least make it home for dinner once in a while? They let her know how wonderful a person Lila is and how she’s always welcome at their house, but she really needs her mom. Mrs. Rossi is probably a really overwhelmed workaholic who’s trying to solve the world’s problems by herself, and this is a wake-up call she really needs. She breaks down crying and leaves early that very day to pick Lila up from school. Mari had never seen her new friend so happy.
So, Marinette spends more and more time with Lila, integrating her back into the class and working on homework together and grabbing ice cream… A couple months in, she realizes that she likes Lila. (Cue dramatic screeching attack.) She still feels really bad that Lila still isn’t a huge fan of Ladybug though. She starts coming up with bullshit excuses to visit Lila as LB and tries to start mending their relationship. Lila thinks it’s a bit weird that Paris’ superheroine is stalking her balcony, but, hey, if Marinette gave her a second chance, she can probably give Ladybug one too. (Cue a rather Marichat-like relationship developing.)
Eventually, Ladybug needs a new ally for a mission -- she needs a hero for the miraculous of the rooster. For the purposes of this fic, the rooster’s weapon is a mirror that can change size at the will of its wielder (like Chat’s Baton). The power of the miraculous is a healing light of sorts (during which the mirror looks like a sun) that resets the countdown timers of any miraculous present, allowing the special powers of other miraculouses to be used again. It also heals injuries and refreshes all those present. (I’m sorry y’all, I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons most of my life, every party needs a healer.)
Ladybug goes to Lila’s balcony and asks her if she wants to be a hero -- for real this time. Lila’s smile breaks wide as the sun, and Alba Gloriosa, the newest hero of Paris is born.
Orikko is literally where the saying mother hen comes from and she’s pretty similar to Tikki in personality, so she’s really good for Lila and she loves her so much.
As per usual, thanks for reading my insane ramblings. If you have any asks about this au (or any of my others) please feel free to spam my inbox -- it really makes my day!
You’re all awesome!

Universe
Summary
You become famous for a love song that you wrote. You’d do anything to keep people from knowing who you wrote it for, and you figured that no one would have any clue where to even start trying to figure out who it was for... But then again, if the dumb song you impulsively wrote at 3 in the morning could go viral, then why wouldn’t all of this happen?
4K+ Words
A/n: I probably never would have posted this. It’s one of those things that I write and then keep to myself but I told my friends about it and they really liked it so they encouraged me to post it. Sorry if it’s not very good!
-
You were used to people growing tired of you.
There must be something about your personality... Something... Boring because no matter how much they liked you went you first met, no matter how you acted around them to make sure that you two would get along, no matter what. People just... They stopped talking to you.
Eventually, they stopped caring about you.
They stopped wanting to hear from you.
They stopped listening.
You were used to it. In fact, you were so used to people not caring, that it threw you off when people actually did care about you. No matter how brief it inevitably was you were always surprised.
“So tell us, who did you write the song for?”
You laughed and crossed your legs.
“If I just told you that what would the world say?” You responded. The audience booed softly. It was so odd... How they clung to your every word.
“What would the world say? Or what would he say?” The interviewer drilled. Again you laughed.
“You caught me. I’d tell everyone in this room and more who I wrote this song for if I didn’t run the risk of him finding out,” you admitted softly. You brushed your hair out of your face. “I wrote the song for him... But I never thought he would hear it.”
“So he’s not someone you're close to,” the interviewer pried on. You rolled your eyes comedically.
“No matter what he is in my life, the important thing is that he can’t ever know I wrote Universe for him. I wrote it in different languages to establish that no one can understand my feelings properly. No matter what language it is written in...”
You trailed off and laughed nervously.
That was only partly true because... The only language that he knows is Korean, and that means the only phrase that he really needs to understand in that song was the one where you said I love you. Cheesy as that may be.
If you hadn’t been being broadcast on live tv in front of a studio audience, you would have buried your face in your hands.
Instead, you smiled brightly.
“Enough talking about Universe. Who wants to hear it?”
No matter how popular you got, no matter how much you performed your song, no matter how many followers you got on instagram, you couldn’t help but think about how temporary this all was.
In a week, in a month, in a year, no one would even really know who you were.
So you might as well ride this while it lasted. Perform as many shows as you could, meet as many fans as possible, say all the inspirational bullshit that ended up getting you on the stage in the first place.
“I never gave up on myself. I never gave up on my dreams and I will never give up on him. So you guys shouldn’t either. I never thought he would hear this song but he did. I know I sound cheesy, but dreams do come true. I’ll see you guys around!”
Backstage was always busier than you expected it to be. It was a hustle and bustle of movement. There was no room to really think. You just had to smile, thank the crew and keep moving.
In your dressing room, you would just sit and listen to your manager tell you what was next. It was always just show after show after-
“We’re going to Korea. Mnet has invited you to perform as a half-time act at one of their biggest award shows.”
Your fingers curled and uncurled but you went along with it. You went along with everything.
You were happy, you truly were. For crying out loud you were living your dream. You were just worried...
You had some pretty real stage fright, but you wouldn’t know it from watching you perform. You were usually able to get past it once you started on stage too, and you were getting more used to dancing and singing in front of large crowds of people, but performing in front of Korea... In front of him.
That was something else.
You took your spot on stage, back turned away from the audience. Your music started and you sang the opening line.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this way...”
-
You looked at the camera in front of you, taking a deep breath. You gritted your teeth together nervously, but let your lips turn up in a smile anyways, surely giving off a nervous expression.
“Just finished performing in front of all of Korea,” you said softly to the camera. “It went well- I think, I certainly wasn’t performing for a black sea. Now I’m backstage.”
You looked around, and before you could say anything more, you heard someone slowly clapping from behind you. You turned sharply over your shoulder in surprise and found...
Kim Namjoon? You blinked, once, twice, and a third time, before finally dropping your body into a low bow.
“Oh, uhm, h-hello.”
You glanced up at Namjoon just in time to watch him bow just as lowly to you, but instead of holding the position like you had, he leaned up and sharply hit you on the top of your head.
“Nice to finally meet you y/n,” he said. You made a disgruntled face at him, lips stuck out, and eyebrows furrowed while you held your head.
“I wish I could say the same,” you mumbled. “Why’d you hit me?”
He laughed and waved at the camera you had previously talking to.
“Hello,” he said politely. He turned back to you and then chuckled. “I hit you because you were being much too polite. Acting like you don’t know me.”
You made another face at him.
“Well, this is the first time we’ve ever met,” you replied. “And you’re a pretty big deal.”
“You’re a pretty big deal nowadays too,” he wrote off. “And you’ve been writing me since before even you knew what you would become famous for.”
Your eyes widened almost comically.
You had been writing letters to Kim Namjoon since you had first gotten into kpop. You had been writing him letters about just about everything in your life, multiple times a week for so long that you had lost count of exactly what you had talked about before and what you hadn’t.
What you did know for sure was that anyone who actually read your letters would know you better than anyone else.
Despite the fact that you still consistently wrote letters to Namjoon, you had never assumed he actually still read them. Or ever had read them. You had sent so many that you were sure by now Bighit just threw away any envelope with your name on it.
But... If what Namjoon was insinuating was true...
“You actually read my letters?”
Namjoon rolled his eyes and draped his arm over your shoulder, starting to lead you deeper into the wings backstage.
“So tell me, who is the guy that you wrote Universe for?”
You stared at him blankly, so he pulled away from you, continuing to speak.
“I mean, I know it’s not me... No you would have made it more obvious in the song, or you would have mentioned it somewhere in one of your letters,” he stated surely. Again you didn’t speak.
“You don’t ever talk about any other guy idols in your letters, but I know it’s got to be one,” Namjoon replied. “Someone here today or else you wouldn’t be so nervous.”
You still couldn’t speak, you were too shocked.
“But I can’t figure out who there are so many groups that he could be from,” Namjoon continued to speak. Finally, you opened your mouth.
“Wait.” you started. “Even you want to know who I wrote the song for?”
“Well, yeah,” Namjoon replied with a scoff. “Aren’t I supposed to be like your best friend or something?”
“We’ve never met before,” you stated bluntly. Namjoon put his hands in the air, palms towards you.
“You’re words, not mine,” he replied.
Geez, had you really called him that at some point?
“Anyway,” he continued with a wave of his hand. “There’s an after-party to this event that everyone always goes to... Your guy will totally be there, so you’re going to hang out with me until I find out who it is.”
“What?” You blurted.
He smiled, and grabbed your hand, pulling you forward.
“Come on y/n!”
You were sure this had been written somewhere before.
Girl loves kpop, girl becomes famous and gets to be around all of the idols she loves.
You knew that the normal reaction to being dragged through a crowd of idols with Kim Namjoon from BTS should be exciting, but instead of feeling that, you were just a tad bit annoyed honestly.
All Namjoon wanted to talk about was who you liked.
You two could have talked about anything. Television shows, music, books, heck even drama between the other idols there but no he just wanted to find out the one thing about yourself you had never told him.
Why was he so obsessed with this?
“What about Seventeen? Is he from that group?”
You scoffed.
“You really think I would fall for a boyfriend concept?” You said it pretty evenly. Anyone who didn’t know you would totally fall for the statement. Even people who did know you would probably hear your words and just assume they were a solid answer.
Apparently, Namjoon knew you pretty well from those letters however because it made him hesitate. His eyes turned to you.
“Oh my god.”
You made a face at him.
“What?”
“You fell for a boyfriend concept?” He asked. “Mrs. Never-have-I-ever-crushed-on-someone-I-didn’t-know-well-personally fell for a boy from a kpop group that has a boyfriend concept.”
“I just said-”
“Oh my god, you did!”
Namjoon started to laugh, the smile on his face ridiculously wide for someone who had just narrowed down his options to thirteen people.
“Holy crap, who?” He mumbled. “I mean, I could’ve understood him being from pretty much any group but a boyfriend concept? It never occurred to me that you would be one of those girls.”
“He’s not in Seventeen,” you blurted out, a frown riddling across your face. “And there’s nothing wrong with liking a guy from a group with a boyfriend concept that is the whole point.”
“Yeah but I just never thought you would fall for it,” Namjoon said in amazement. “And someone from Seventeen? It just doesn’t seem like your kind of group.”
“They have really good music,” you mumbled half pouting. You were going to say more when suddenly you noticed Seungkwan look over at you and Namjoon. You sucked in a sharp breath and turned away from the boy, grabbing Namjoon’s arm.
“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you who it is,” you said. “But he isn’t from Seventeen, he’s from some other group way way over there.”
Namjoon opened his mouth, clearly not falling for the diversion. He looked over at the group of boys and frowned.
“Hey some of them are coming over here,” he mumbled. Your eyes widened.
“Alright big guy, let’s get a move on.” You grabbed Namjoon’s wrist and pulled but he refused to budge, a smile on his lips becoming larger and larger the longer he stood there.
“You know, I really didn’t think that you actually had a crush on someone from that group but you totally do don’t you?”
“Kim Namjoon if you don’t-”
“Namjoon, Y/n, can’t say I expected to see you two together.”
You turned around before you could properly think through what you were going to do next and dipped the top half of your body down into a bow.
“Choi Seungcheol,” you greeted. You looked up and barely contained the urge to wince. The entire group had wandered over there. “Should I do the whole fanchant or just refer to everyone as Seventeen?”
Seungcheol and a number of the others seemed amused by the joke. Seungkwan, however, seemed mostly surprised.
“You’re a carat?” He asked. You laughed and nodded.
“Yeah, I try not to talk about it too much on shows though,” you stated. Namjoon bit out a laugh.
“Yeah, I can see why now-”
Before he could say anymore you turned and hit him a few times on the chest. He jumped in surprise but laughed as your hands slapped harmlessly against his shirt.
“Shut up,” you hissed. “Don’t embarrass me in front of Seventeen.”
You heard a chuckle, and your heart sank when you realized you recognized the voice. You turned back around and smiled in the direction of the noise, completely unsurprised when you saw that it was Minghao looking at you.
“Hello Minghao,” you mumbled softly, running your fingers through your hair. “It’s nice to meet you.”
You had expected him to be the gentlemen he was. To smile, and tilt his head, and tell you that he was happy to meet you as well.
Instead of doing that, he gestured to Namjoon.
“What’s the big guy over here know that we don’t?” He asked. You scrunched your face at them.
“Why is every idol hear so casual with me?” You mumbled defiantly. “I’ve never met any of you before, and you guys are all acting like we’ve been friends for years.”
“Well, it’s not like we don’t know your name and too much about you,” Joshua stated with a shrug. “And if you’re a carat, that works the other way too... Doesn’t it.”
“I-”
“Oh, is it Joshua?” Namjoon blurted. “If you like me, then you probably like like someone kind of like me... Bilingual?”
You shot him a glare.
“What-”
“What is right,” Minghao piped up again. “What is Namjoon trying to find out?”
You tried to throw them off the scent.
“Noth-”
“The guy that she likes is in Seventeen.”
Why did you ever try talking if everyone was just going to ignore you? Honestly, you might as well have not even been standing there other than to be gawked at.
“Seriously? The guy is in our group?” Seungkwan blurted. “He’s a member of Seventeen?”
Namjoon nodded, a soft sigh leaving his lips.
“I know! I couldn’t believe it either!” He blurted. “She’s not really the type to fall for a boyfriend concept!”
“Exactly!” Seungkwan agreed, his eyes wide.
“I didn’t,” you insisted meekly. “I fell for... For... Oh uh, idk-”
You looked around for a male idol that could be feasible, excited when your eyes landed on Leedo from ONEUS.
“Ah! Leedo, duh, tall-”
“Woozi!” Namjoon interrupted before you could get another word out. Your jaw dropped.
“What?!”
“It’s Woozi!”
“Where did that come from?” You exclaimed, a little louder then you meant to. Your cheeks turned a darker shade of red as you stared at the taller, older idol. “Where on Earth did you pull that name?”
“You described Leedo as tall,” Namjoon replied with a roll of his eyes.
“He is tall,” you replied bluntly.
“Yeah, but it was the first descriptive word you used- so you’re compensating for something. And you don’t really bias rappers. Even I know that. Woozi is a producer and a main vocalist. Much more your style.”
“You’re basing this on one word,” you exclaimed.
“And you’ve practically confirmed it with your response,” Namjoon laughed cheerily. “You’re so red, it’s adorable.”
He patted you on the head and then took you by your shoulders, turning you to face the rest of Seventeen.
“It’s him, isn’t it? You have a crush on Lee Jihoon?”
All the boys looked at you, eyes wide, and as hard as you tried you couldn’t help the way that your eyes drifted to the boy in question.
His hair was lighter in color then you had thought it was. It surprised you a bit, almost made you wonder if you were looking at the right guy.
Not only that but his expression was... Oddly red as well. Maybe he was embarrassed by the attention.
“I told you it was Leedo,” you insisted. “So what if I don’t usually bias rappers, that’s what usually happens when it comes to these sort of things. It’s unexpected.”
“Okay but your lyrics directly-”
“Oneus fans are To Moons, why do you think I named it Universe and made it space-themed?” You asked. Everyone looked at you, their minds turning, so you rolled your eyes.
“Become the only star and planet and moon I see?” You quoted, a hand on your hip. Namjoon raised his eyebrows towards you.
“I think you might be my Universe?” Namjoon quoted right back. “Clear reference to Woozi’s instagram. Universefactory?”
“You really think that I would base my first over song on an instagram?”
“Well, you didn’t expect it to blow up,” Namjoon argued back. “You said once in an interview that you wrote it on the basis that no one would ever hear it, and you wanted the person you wrote it for to understand it.”
“I say something along the lines of that in like every interview. It doesn’t mean anything,” you denied.
“You wrote the song almost entirely in different languages, but you use Korean the most of the others. So the guy has to be Korean. You wrote a song so he would notice you- he has to be a kpop idol. You said once that you didn’t think he’d even like the song you wrote for him because he’s a producer himself-”
“I don’t know why you’re assuming you’re not the person I wrote the song for,” you blurted. “You’re all space-themed too. Moonchild?” “You would’ve referenced it in your letters,” Namjoon said dismissively.
“That’s another thing!” You said triumphantly. “Letters! I write letters to my favorite idols and I’ve never sent a single letter to Woozi! But I’ve sent one to all the rest of Seventeen!”
You thought over those words and looked at Jihoon, wrinkling your nose. “Nothing personal-”
“Everything personal,” Namjoon exclaimed, pointing at Jihoon. “You wrote me one time saying- and I quote- I kind of like this guy... Oh, I don’t know. I won’t talk too much about it. But I’ve been trying to write to him and I can’t get a single word right. Funny huh? I could write you miles, and him I can’t say a word.”
You stared jaw-hanging open at the idol.
“Did you memorize my letters?” You asked.
“Let’s take a vote!” Namjoon exclaimed, completely ignoring that question. He gestured to the rest of Seventeen who apparently had nothing better to do than watch you argue with Namjoon.
And aside from that, you guys had managed to get a small crowd of idols watching you two curiously. It made you wish that you two had been arguing in English.
“Let’s not-” “Who here thinks that our lovely lady here has a crush on Leedo from Oneus?” Namjoon asked.
You looked around, hoping that you had been able to convince at least one person that you didn’t have a crush on Jihoon. You knew that without Namjoon tearing down your argument you would have been able to do it.
But the only person who rose their hand was Jihoon. You groaned and sunk to the floor.
“And who thinks that she likes Jihoon?”
You didn’t have to look to know that everyone had their hands in the air.
“Okay, okay,” you admitted. “I concede. I like him alright?”
You felt a hand pat your head.“He’s right over there,” Namjoon mumbled. You looked up, your face burning, making eye contact with Jihoon. His face was still red.
“Did you like the song?” You mumbled. He nodded wordlessly. You nodded too.
“Cool, I’m just going to go ahead and die now. Nice to meet you all!”
Before anyone else could say a word you got to your feet, and began to rush through the crowd. You frantically apologized to everyone you passed but you didn’t stop until you had made it out of the room- away from the idols, into a location in which you didn’t have to see anyone.
It ended up being in a dressing room.
You hated how cliche that was.
You had just admitted you liked a guy and then ran away.
You groaned and buried your head in your hands.
You had one shot- one shot to seem normal. And here you had gone and ruined it. Now all the idols here would think you were an idiot.
You figured you could just... Hideout until the party was over. Stay inside and away from everyone until you could leave without being completely and totally humiliated... Which is of course when the door to the dressing room creaked open.
You looked up from where you sat on the floor, wrinkling your nose when you saw it was Jihoon.
“Oh-”
“I was looking for you,” Jihoon interrupted. He silently slipped into the room, shutting the door behind him. He stared at you from there at the door, his hands still behind his back on the doorknob. It was like he was worried you would run away again.
Which you were considering.
“You know, you don’t have to do this,” you mumbled, looking away from him.
Even not looking at him you could see him tilt his head towards you.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“You know- pretend like you care or liked my song or-”
“I did like your song,” he replied. You would’ve just assumed he was lying, but you recognized the tone of voice he was using. It made you look up again, surprised to find he wasn’t looking at you, but the floor, his face red. “Did you... Did you really write it for me?”
Oh, how the tables had turned. It almost seemed like he was shy to be talking to you.
“Uh, yeah,” you mumbled in response. He glanced up at you.
“It was really good. I mean. The part where you sang eonjena-”
“It was kind of cheesy right? Didn’t really fit the rest of the song?” You agreed with a sigh. He nodded, his eyes widening.
“Yeah, exactly! At first, I didn’t know if I liked it, but I couldn’t figure out what else to replace it with, and along with that in a way it kind of works, because your feelings are sort of cheesy and light-hearted.”
“Oh my god, yes!” You exclaimed brightly. “I can’t believe you get it!” “Well, yeah, of course I get it,” he replied. “I’m a producer too.”
Your face reddened slightly.
“A much better producer,” you mumbled. He rolled his eyes.
“Universe is good. Honestly, the first time I heard it... I still can’t believe someone wrote a song as popular as yours seems about me.”
“I just wish I had picked a better song to produce,” you mumbled. “I’ve been wanting to write a song about like... How being in love with someone is like having superpowers-”
Jihoon snickered at that, and you pouted.
“Well, there goes that idea,” you mumbled. He laughed.
“No, no it’s good!” Jihoon insisted.
“You laughed at it!” You protested, stubbornly.
“I laughed at you,” he corrected, a fond smile crossing his face. “It’s really cute- you wrote a song that’s on the Billboard music chart top 100 and you’re wishing you had written something else instead. You’re going to make it in this industry.”
“I produced one song,” you mumbled back. “I’m hardly Rihanna. You’re such a better producer.”
“We’re both good producers- how about that?” Jihoon suggested. You shrugged your reluctant agreement to the terms and he smiled. “We should do a collab sometime.”
Your jaw nearly dropped.
“You’re kidding.”
“I don’t kid about collab’s,” Jihoon replied, a serious expression settling over his face. “What do you think?”
“Yes, of course, yes!” You blurted out jumping to your feet. In your excitement, you grabbed his hands without thinking. “It’s a dream to work with you!”
Jihoon’s face reddened again and he looked down at your hands curiously. You realized what you had done and suddenly pulled your hands away from his.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, letting one of your hands settle nervously on the back of your neck.
It’s okay,” Jihoon replied, his voice so quiet you could barely hear him. “It was kinda nice.”
-
“Well,” Namjoon prodded eagerly, poking your shoulder gently as he walked you to your hotel. You tried to ignore the bodyguards trailing not far behind you, but it was hard for this to feel like a normal conversation when they were watching Namjoon and you so carefully.
“Well, what?” You asked rolling your eyes.
“Well did you kiss him!” Namjoon blurted. Your eyes widened and you shushed him, despite no one being around.
“Of course I didn’t kiss him.”
“Wuss,” Namjoon replied without missing a beat. You swatted him on his arm, and you heard one of the guards behind you clear their throat at that. You rolled your eyes.
“I’d be more worried about him hurting me,” you mumbled. Namjoon laughed at that. “Besides, I’m not a wuss, I got his number.”
Namjoon’s expression lit up but before he could say anything else you added:
“And I’m going out with him tomorrow before I leave Korea and we are going to do a collab together!”
Namjoon let out a victorious whoop and grabbed you by the waist. You let out a surprised laugh when he threw you over his shoulder and began to run you through the parking lot. His guards stopped him only seconds after he started, giving him a quick lecture about being more careful about his image in public and about how he couldn’t just pick up a girl without consent.
He looked like a scolded baby, and it made you laugh.
You had a feeling that your time in Korea was going to results in some good friendships... and hopefully with Jihoon, something a little more than just a friendship.

Olympic ice-dance champions Virtue and Moir: 'We’re so proud of our relationship'
June 18, 2019
The Canadian gold medallists talk to Eoin O’Callaghan about winning gold, maintaining a professional relationship and ignoring fan fiction

There’s a guy at a bar nursing a drink. He looks up and catches the eye of a girl nearby. They share a knowing glance. And that’s the moment. It’s a scene from a litany of TV shows and films. But, it’s also the story of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s rebirth. And given the hopelessly romantic and cinematic dimension to their partnership, the story fits perfectly.
“We were on a charity trip to Scotland [in 2015] and they were showing an Olympic video,” Moir remembers. “I looked over at Tessa. We kind of have our own language. And I was like, ‘We’re going to do one more Olympics, aren’t we?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, yeah’. I turned around to the bartender, ordered three more beers and just thought, ‘Okay, here we go’”.
At the time, the celebrated Canadian ice-dance duo were on a break. Embittered and irritated with skating, they’d stepped away from competing and were mulling their next move. After a period of unprecedented success between 2010 and 2012, things shifted substantially prior to the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The entire experience, which culminated in a bitterly disappointing silver medal, was clouded by a simmering rift with coach Marina Zoueva and newspaper claims that the ice-dance result had been fixed by American and Russian judges.
It was supposed to be Virtue and Moir’s perfect swansong but instead they headed into presumed retirement full of anger, frustration and resentment. Moir, in particular, was disillusioned by all of it.
“I was just kind of sour with the sport,” he says. “I didn’t want anything to do with it. I went into a period of excessive partying and doing anything that wasn’t figure skating, really. I went and built a house with my brother. I shut the whole world out and shut everything down.”
But the break – regardless of the emotions that came with it – was badly needed. “Gaining the perspective to reflect and reassess was paramount,” Virtue says.
After discussing a comeback in more detail, they earmarked former Canadian ice-dancers Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon as coaches and were eager to move to Montreal and get things started. But during their first conversation, Lauzon wanted them to explain their motivation for returning. It was a pre-requisite, he told them.
“That floored us,” Moir says. “We couldn’t get out of it by just saying, ‘We want to win.’ He just said, ‘Well, that might not be enough. You need more than that if you want to come to our school.’ It came down to the fact that we just felt we had more to give.”
In a new place and with a new coaching team, they were determined to push boundaries and rediscover the sport.
“We weren’t conforming to any one thing,” Virtue says. “We lost this sense of trying to appease everyone else. We were more secure in who we were as people and athletes. We were more secure in what we stood for, what we valued and the art we wanted to create. I always loved skating but you can get hardened by it and it’s discouraging and disheartening. You can lose that spark. Montreal ignited it again.”
In September 2016, they stepped into a rink in the Montreal borough of Pierrefonds and competed for the first time in two-and-a-half years at the Skate Canada Autumn Classic. The short dance was an electric, sensual tribute to Prince. Paired with the tenderness and contemporary slant of their free dance, it was a magnetic and thrilling package.
Even so, it seemed a long shot that they would get the better of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, the French duo who were back-to-back world champions and unbeaten in two years. So, it was astonishing when Virtue and Moir ended the year on top of the Grand Prix podium for the first time in their careers and followed that up with a World Championship gold in 2017.

“I don’t think people truly understand how difficult that is,” Moir says. “Three years is a long time. The game had evolved. And we’re back in the arena, with the bright lights and everyone’s faces looking back at us again. We did everything we could to prepare but there were a lot of tough steps. The goal was to not be our old selves. We knew we made a mistake in 2014. We didn’t pick music that was dear to our hearts and weren’t personally invested in a program. We vowed to never do that again.”
The new era was exciting but still left Virtue slightly underwhelmed. She was expecting something bigger, more explosive.
“I thought we’d have this Ziggy Stardust moment,” she says. “‘Representing Canada, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’ and the whole crowd would turn and gasp and say, ‘Who? Who’s that blonde girl? That’s not Tessa.’ I thought we would totally reinvent ourselves. But it was finding the balance. ‘Are we doing things differently just to be different or to be better?’ And that was a constant dialogue between us.”
For Moir, the entire process became a safe harbour as he navigated a particularly difficult period.
“2017 was probably one of the hardest years of my life,” he admits. “There were a lot of personal struggles. I lost some very important people. I had a best friend and then a grandfather pass away. Through it all, skating became an anchor. I used to think of it as a job. Now it was getting me through and giving me hope. Through all the heartache, it seemed worth it. Heading into the Olympic season, we were ready for almost anything.”
In the build-up to Pyeongchang, they were consistently behind Papadakis and Cizeron, particularly in the free dance. So, they dramatically altered their sombre Moulin Rouge routine to make it more Olympic-friendly.
“We changed about two minutes of our program entirely,” Virtue says. “We listened to people for eight years telling us we needed a big ending, people on their feet and the music to reach this massive crescendo. That’s the Olympic moment people want. Once we were able to find that, it soared and began to take shape.”
It worked.
The subsequent free dance performance sits alongside Torvill and Dean’s 1984 Bolero as the greatest ice-dance moment in history. Those four spellbinding minutes were not only enough to ensure astounding and unlikely Olympic golds for the pair but to also define Virtue and Moir’s legacy.
“I had never felt momentum during a performance before,” Virtue says. “We felt flow in Vancouver [when they won gold in 2010] and we chased that feeling for eight years. I went into the penultimate lift in Pyeongchang and I got chills because I felt the energy and electricity in the building shift.”
A different kind of momentum had been growing for a while too.
Unlike their French rivals, Virtue and Moir took part in the team figure skating event a week earlier and quickly became viral sensations. In front of a global audience, the intensity of their chemistry, their innate closeness and the suggestiveness of certain choreography whipped new-found fans into a frenzy, especially across social media. When they found out Virtue and Moir were not involved in a romantic relationship, they didn’t really accept it. Instead, they started to fantasize.
There are dark corners of the digital sphere devoted to them, including some intense fan fiction. The disciples – and there are a lot of them – obsess over every look and every caress. “It’s probably healthier to avoid it,” Virtue says.
But that’s easier said than done. Last year, Moir spoke eloquently about the impact his unique athletic setup had on his personal life and how some partners found it difficult to properly understand his dynamic with Virtue. Before the Olympics, he was already daydreaming about what was on the other side. It’s why he’s so ready to move on to a new post-skating chapter and focus on things he spent so long sacrificing.
“I was ready for that transition,” he says. “It was always skating first and I was finally at a point in my life where I could be a contributing member of my family and actually search for a life partner.”
Their relationship is a curious thing. When I ask Virtue to define it, she takes a deep breath. “We’re the worst at answering this question”, she begins. “I wish we could help ourselves and everyone else.”
She speaks uninterrupted for a few minutes. It’s essentially a meandering run-on sentence. Then she apologizes profusely for not supplying the right answer. But, of course, she had done. It’s why the moment of their eyes meeting in Scotland explains so much of their story. Words are limiting and what Virtue and Moir have goes far beyond that, almost existing in the abstract.
“We were made for each other, in a work relationship,” Moir says. “There’s real love there. We’re so proud of the business relationship we have. And that’s the story we want to tell more than anything. Judging by my girlfriend’s Twitter, I think fans are disappointed a little bit that we’re not a couple but we have a very amazing, unique relationship that hopefully young people can look at and think, ‘Wow, that should be inspirational in its own right’”.
When they stood on the podium immediately after their Olympic victory, Virtue – normally so poised – uncharacteristically welled up. “It was seeing 20 years flash in front of me,” she says. Her voice cracks so she nervously laughs to cover the lump in her throat.
“The little seven and nine-year-old kids who got together, who didn’t speak and who just skated around a rink holding hands. On the world’s biggest stage, with all of that pressure, in that very moment ... I was just very proud of Scott. It’s funny. We both have this thing where it’s hard for us to acknowledge our own success but we’re able to see it in each other.”
Currently, there’s an adjustment period. It’s not about the Olympics anymore. There are touring shows to produce and various other projects to plan for. They both admit that fully appreciating what they have and what they’ve gone through together is something that will only come much later.
For Moir, he’s still struggling to wrap his head around the last year and a half. “I don’t know how to explain it and I don’t think I even have a proper perspective on it yet,” he says. “It seems like it was a fairytale when I look back now.”

The Social and Mental Self
The Social Self is a multifaceted self-concept study which is based on the self's social existence. The emphasis is on self-esteem along with self-centeredness, self-complexity, social interest, identity, control, marginality, transparency, and association with a majority.
THE SOCIO-DIGITAL SELF
With technology growing, ways of socializing have changed significantly. In the past interpersonal relationships can only be formed within physical communities by face-to-face interactions. People can communicate with each other nowadays even though they are not physically present at the same place. One of the inventions that improved the processes of social media interaction and socialization among people.
Social media is characterized as the websites and applications that make knowledge, ideas, and interests easier to create and share. It also enables people to use virtual societies and networks to create other ways of self-expression. Social networking has features that allow people to connect to different groups who share mutual interests (through chat, video calling, or status and photo posting) and become members of virtual communities, whether locally or globally. These characteristics make room for other people as well as enable these groups to affect thoughts and behavior.
Through social media people will behave differently because there is no face-to-face contact in social media and no physical appearance is needed. It is called disembodiment online. With this, people, particularly strangers, are less likely to show their true "self" to others. Individuals are vulnerable to developing digital identities based on various research, which vary from their "true selves."
Tumblr media
In an online world, it is vitally important for him or her to project his or her position identity in the said world. One's online identity helps him or her to participate in a virtual community among the technological resources and networks that surround individuals and online behaviors that people engage. Online activities such as chatting, blogging, and even online shopping will require the person to create a "digital identity" that is identified as the identity that a individual claims in cyberspace. A digital identity enables a person to be part of a virtual community that goes beyond the boundaries of physical and geography. One can leave footprints in cyberspace digitally by creating a digital identity. The posts you make on social media sites, the online identities you build, the internet friends you develop, and things you "like, comment on, and share" become part of an individual's digital identity. Some people find their digital identities to be an extension of who they are. Personalities, interests, beliefs, and activities are often expressed in online activities of individuals, particularly on social media sites, where they relate to others in online environments.
Participation in simulated worlds, however, can require changes that can influence a person's sense of self. People can construct several digital identities within cyberspace. People are likely to behave differently when involved in social media interactions because they don't need physical presence. Social media encourages individuals to embrace personalities whatever their physical image. According to Turkle (1995), on the internet people will redefine themselves. Hypotheses created regarding the virtual world vary from those in real life.
Tumblr media
 Managing Responsible Online Behavior
Regulating online behavior, is significant. Cyberbullying occurs because of people showing reckless and offensive behavior online. How does one act online responsibly? Here are some suggestions:
Do not post or send anything that will embarrass you.
People can act differently online than they do in person-the vast audience is invisible, and many consider their screens safe. That can be a good thing, like someone who feels more comfortable about opening and being themselves. Yet people also abuse social networks to threaten and intimidate others.
Internet publishing is free, accessible and sometimes permanent. When you publish, you lose track of what's happening to it - it just takes one person to share it on their own profiles to get it out of your hands fully.
Tumblr media
Avoid posting statements when experiencing strong emotions.
Negative emotions like anxiety, depression and rage are a normal part of life and we often struggle with how to cope effectively with them. It may be tempting to respond instinctively on what you hear, but it sometimes doesn't resolve the problem it triggered the emotions. In fact, handling down the road can lead to more problems.
Tumblr media
Do not hang out with the “wrong crowd” offline
You might be wise enough not to post the pic of you holding this red solo cup (full of lemonade). Yet, along with the comment, your friend does — and tags you—"Gettin 'blitzed!!! "You may not want anyone at last weekend's party to capture your iconic dance moves, but there are cameras and phones everywhere. If you're associating with people who don't really care about you or your reputation, they can take the opportunity to watch (and laugh at) the video and post it to others. It could go viral, worse of all, and next thing you know you're being interviewed by Daniel Tosh about a humiliating video of you that's gone national and seen by millions.
Tumblr media
Do not hang out with the “wrong crowd” online
Stop accepting any request from friends and followers that comes your way. Getting a lot of followers isn't the status symbol that some people make it to be and may increase the risk of victimization. Giving access to your personal information to strangers opens you up to all kinds of possible issues. It's also true, though, that those that are most likely to take advantage of you aren't going to be total strangers, but would be the ones you've allowed into your life just a little bit (like encouraging them to make friends or follow you)-and who's using knowledge they can now access against you.
Tumblr media
Be careful with oversharing, especially confidential information that may be used irresponsibility.
When you're just writing about your meals, bathroom trips, social life, and the new YouTube viral video, others will think: 1) you've got too much time on your hands, 2) you've got no concentration or goals, or 3) you're unproductive and you can't make a real contribution to something. Remember that people don't care about all the many crazy things happening in your life as much as you want them to know. The entire thing is not about you!
Tumblr media
Respect other people in the online community.
Respect for yourself and others is crucial in all relationships and when you are online, it is no different.
You should motivate your child to treat friends online with the same respect as the ones he meets face to face. This is not part of making or sending out negative or degrading emails, images or text messages about someone else
Also, if she sees someone being bullied or harassed online, you should encourage your child to tell you or another trusted adult. Young people sometimes want to figure things out for themselves, so it's important that your child gets into the habit of asking you if she's concerned about something that's happening online. This can help your child understand that when other people help, things are easier to work out.
If your child receives some negative or abusive comments on its profile pages, online blocking or unfriendly people who don't treat him with respect. That sends the message that mistreating or harassing others online is not OK.
Tumblr media
Despite these recommendations, a balanced digital identity can be fostered and projected that positively impacts one's social self. In an online forum, people can learn new things, make more friends, broaden their viewpoints through safe online networking and develop better social values. Unlike in face-to-face encounters where conversations leave digital traces that can linger for others to see forever. People will also exercise decorum online; in the same way they practice decorum in real life.
The Mental Self focuses on the self's intellectual aspects. As the intelligent beings, human strives over time and effectively copes with the demands of the environment. The mental capacities of people indicate human dominance over other species on the planet. A detailed comprehension of this gift to mankind therefore requires careful consideration. This also includes discussions about how people learn, and how learning skills build one's being.
Human Learning
Learning as a result of experience is described as a relative permanent change in a person's knowledge or actions. This description connotes three things; first, the change is long-term; second, the root of change comes from within the individual's external memory or information structures; and third, the change is due to the learner's personal experiences in his or her environment. Then learning occurs when knowledge or information is passed to long-term memory that is further expanded, rehearsed, and exercised.
Process takes place also outside of school. This does happen in daily circumstances. Learning occurs when there is an apparent change in one's beliefs and behavior. But learning is not limited to positive results; one may also benefit from undesirable circumstances. There is interaction of financial, environmental, and behavioral change according to the social cognitive theory.
Tumblr media
Surface learning results in pure fact-absorption and rote memorization. This does not require learning announcements to happen, and rather pays attention to teacher success, student learning is useful in certain cases, but does not generally contribute to deep understanding. Deep learning approaches, on the other hand, include making concrete comparisons, using higher cognitive abilities, improving intrinsic motivation and building stronger metacognitive abilities.
To adopt deep learning strategies, students can engage on the following habits.
Taking down notes
Students improve the retention and interpretation of concepts by writing down notes, and may connect them to previous knowledge they have already processed.
Tumblr media
Asking questions during classroom sessions
Asking questions during class promotes the exploration of individuals and classes through an active dialogue between teacher and student. It also allows for an immediate input about the learning process.
Tumblr media
Creating cognitive maps
The essence of deep learning is the mechanism by which students and teachers create concrete associations between types of knowledge the student knows. Creating cognitive maps involves linking concepts together in order to arrive at valuable meanings and facilitate valuable transfer to long-term memory.
Tumblr media
Engaging in collaborative learning activities with mentors and peers
"Two heads are better than one" is a saying. Students can converse, share thoughts, and debate in joining study groups to sharpen their communication skills.
Tumblr media
Going beyond the mandatory course requirements
The learning process can be significantly improved by reading supplementary reference materials watching films that highlight topics explored in class, going on trips for an immersive learning experience, and engaging in other learning opportunities.

The Liberation of Mitt Romney
The newly rebellious senator has become an outspoken dissident in Trump’s Republican Party, just in time for the president’s impeachment trial.
MCKAY COPPINS | Published OCT 20, 2019 | The Atlantic | Posted October 21, 2019 |
Updated: Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 9:32 p.m. ET
Mitt Romney is leaning forward in his chair, his eyes flashing, his voice sharp.
It’s a strange look for the 72-year-old senator, who typically affects a measured, somber tone when discussing Donald Trump’s various moral deficiencies. But after weeks of escalating combat with the president—over Ukraine, and China, and Syria, and impeachment—the gentleman from Utah suddenly appears ready to unload.
What set him off was my recitation of an argument I’ve heard some Republicans deploy lately to excuse Trump’s behavior. Electing a president, the argument goes, is like hiring a plumber—you don’t care about his character, you just want him to get the job done. Sitting in his Senate office, Romney is indignant. “Are you worried that your plumber overcharges you?” he asks. “Are you worried that the plumber’s going to scream at your kids? Are you worried that the plumber is going to squeal out of your driveway?” I am playing devil’s advocate; he is attempting an exorcism.
To Romney, Trump’s performance as president is inextricably tangled up in his character. “Berating another person, or calling them names, or demeaning a class of people, not telling the truth—those are not private things,” he says, adding: “If during the campaign you pay a porn star $130,000, that now comes into the public domain.”
At this, Romney glances over at two of his aides who are watching silently from the other end of the room, and grins. “They’re going, Oh gosh, shut up.”
I’ve spent the past several months in an ongoing conversation with Romney as he’s navigated a Washington that grows more hostile by the day. Before arriving in the Senate, Romney nurtured a pleasant delusion that he could somehow avoid being defined by his relationship with Trump. He had his own policy agenda to advance, his own vision for the future of the Republican Party. He would use his platform to take a stand against Trumpism, while largely ignoring Trump himself. When I would speak with his friends and allies in Utah during last year’s campaign, there was often a certain dilettantish quality in the future Senator Romney they envisioned—a venerable elder statesman dabbling in legislation the way a retiree takes up tennis.
Instead, Romney has emerged as an outspoken dissident in Trump’s Republican Party. In just the past few weeks, he has denounced the president’s attempts to solicit dirt on political rivals from foreign governments as “wrong and appalling”; suggested that his fellow Republicans are looking the other way out of a desire for power; and condemned Trump’s troop withdrawal in Syria as a “bloodstain on the annals of American history.”
Trump has responded with a wrathful procession of personal attacks—deriding Romney as a “pompous ass,” taunting him over his failed presidential bid in 2012, and tweeting a cartoonish video that tags the senator as a “Democrat secret asset.”
These confrontations have turned Romney into one of the most closely watched figures in the impeachment battle now consuming Washington. While his fellow Republicans rail against “partisan witch hunts” and “fake whistle-blowers,” Romney is taking the prospect of a Senate trial seriously—he’s reviewing The Federalist Papers, brushing up on parliamentary procedure, and staying open to the idea that the president may need to be evicted from the Oval Office.
In the nine years I’ve been covering Romney, I’ve never seen him quite so liberated. Unconstrained by consultants, unconcerned about reelection, he is thinking about things such as legacy, and inheritance, and the grand sweep of history. Here, in the twilight of his career, he seems to sense—in a way that eludes many of his colleagues—that he’ll be remembered for what he does in this combustible moment. “I do think people will view this as an inflection point in American history,” Romney tells me.
“I don’t look at myself as being a historical figure,” he hastens to add, “but I do think these are critical times. And I hope that what I’m doing will open the way for people to take a different path.”
With his neat coif, square jaw, and G-rated diction, Romney has always emanated a kind of old-fashioned civic starchiness. In the past, this quality has been the object of occasional ridicule. (During his 2012 presidential bid, reporters like me often snickered at his penchant for quoting lines from “America the Beautiful,” which he called his favorite of the “patriotic hymns.”) But in these decidedly more vulgar times, there is a certain appeal to the senator’s wholesomeness.
When I first caught up with Romney, in June, he was in a buoyant mood, preparing to deliver his “maiden speech” from the Senate floor later that day. I asked him how he was settling in. “This is great!” he replied. “I mean, everybody told me I was going to hate it here.”
I confessed that I was among those who thought he might not enjoy being the 97th most senior member of the Senate.
“I think people forget I worked for 10 years as a management consultant,” Romney said, referring to his time at Bain & Company. “Which meant I was able to make no decisions, I was able to get nothing done, and I had to try and convince people through a long process.” In retrospect, it seems, he was destined for the U.S. Congress.
Romney told me that he doesn’t think much anymore about his 2012 defeat to Barack Obama. “My life is not defined in my own mind by political wins and losses,” he said. “You know, I had my career in business, I’ve got my family, my faith—that’s kind of my life, and this is something I do to make a difference. So I don’t attach the kind of—I don’t know—psychic currency to it that people who made politics their entire life.”
Not everyone he’s met in the Senate shares this outlook, he said. “People are really friendly, they’re really nice—except Bernie,” he said, laughing. “He’s a curmudgeon. It’s not that he’s mean or whatever; he just kind of scowls, you know”—Romney hunched his back and summoned a Scrooge-like grunt. “For Bernie, it seems like this is kind of who he is. It’s defining. It’s his entire person. For me, it’s part of who I am, but it’s not the whole person.”
After he was elected in November, Romney began typing out a list on his iPad of all the things he wanted to accomplish in the Senate. It was 50 items long by the time he showed it to his staff, and though they laughed, he continued undeterred. By the time we spoke, it had grown to 60, with priorities ranging from complex systemic reforms—overhauling the immigration system, reducing the deficit, addressing climate change—to narrower issues such as compensating college athletes and regulating the vaping industry.
As he searched the Senate for legislative partners, Romney told me, he was warned that his efforts were likely doomed. Even in less polarized, less chaotic times, the kind of ambitious agenda he had in mind would be unrealistic. But Romney was steadfast in his optimism. “I’m not here to say it can’t happen,” he told me.
When I broached the subject of Trump that afternoon in June, Romney’s face didn’t register the familiar mix of panic and dread that most GOP lawmakers exhibit these days when faced with questions about the president. If anything, he seemed a little bored by the topic. I had heard repeatedly from people close to Romney that his decision to run for Senate was motivated in part by his alarm at Trump’s ascent. But he still seemed to believe that he could illuminate a path forward for his party without incessantly feuding with the president. “I’m not in the White House,” he told me. “I tried for that job; I didn’t get it. So all I can do from where I am is to say, ‘All right, how do we get things done from here?’”
Anyone familiar with the fraught history between Trump and Romney might have known that a detente was unsustainable. Trump has nursed a grudge since 2016, when Romney denounced him as a “phony” and a “fraud,” and warned of the “trickle-down racism” that would accompany his election. After he won, Trump briefly considered tapping Romney as his secretary of state, but the match was not to be. And in the years that have followed, the tension between the two men has only grown more exaggerated.
They manage that tension in different ways: While the president spent a too-online Saturday earlier this month unloading on Twitter—launching #IMPEACHMITTROMNEY into the canon of viral Trump taunts—Romney enjoyed a quiet afternoon picking apples with his grandkids in Utah and refusing to take the bait. When I met him in his office a couple of weeks later, I asked if the Twitter insults bothered him.
“That’s kind of what he does,” Romney said with a shrug, and then got up to retrieve an iPad from his desk. He explained that he uses a secret Twitter account—“What do they call me, a lurker?”—to keep tabs on the political conversation. “I won’t give you the name of it,” he said, but “I’m following 668 people.” Swiping at his tablet, he recited some of the accounts he follows, including journalists, late-night comedians (“What’s his name, the big redhead from Boston?”), and athletes. Trump was not among them. “He tweets so much,” Romney said, comparing the president to one of his nieces who overshares on Instagram. “I love her, but it’s like, Ah, it’s too much.” (After this story was published, Slate identified a Twitter account using the name Pierre Delecto that seemed to match the senator’s description of his lurker account. When I spoke to Romney on the phone Sunday night, his only response was, “C'est moi.”)
He understands, of course, that many of his Republican colleagues live in fear of being subjected to a presidential Twitter tirade. In fact, some believe that Trump’s targeting of Romney is intended as a warning to other GOP lawmakers lest they step out of line. That fear is one of the reasons his caucus has attempted such elaborate rhetorical contortions to defend Trump as the House impeachment inquiry turns up damning evidence. “I think it’s very natural for people to look at circumstances and see them in the light that’s most amenable to their maintaining power,” he told me in an interview last month at The Atlantic Festival.
Romney told me that he does not have an abstract definition of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and that when it comes to identifying impeachable acts, he follows Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart’s famous standard for defining hard-core porn: “I’ll know it when I see it.” Asked if he’s seen it yet, Romney told me that he’ll make up his mind once he hears all the evidence at the trial: “At this stage, I am strenuously avoiding trying to make any judgment.”
In the meantime, Romney is leading the Republican revolt over the president’s recent decision to pull troops out of northern Syria, leaving America’s Kurdish allies behind. In a withering speech on the Senate floor last week, he condemned the administration’s betrayal of the Kurds, and called for hearings on the matter. He told me that he wants to see a transcript of the phone call between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that preceded the troop withdrawal. “This is not just a disagreement on foreign policy,” he said. “This is a violation of fundamental American honor.”
Amid all the tumult, Romney has come to terms with the fact that there will be little progress on his legislative to-do list for the foreseeable future. (Between impeachment proceedings and next year’s elections, who has time to pass laws?) Nor is Romney especially well positioned to launch a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, despite endless fantasizing by pundits. (He has said he’s not planning to run again.) While his battles with the president have earned him plaudits from some in Utah—where support for Trump is uncommonly weak for a red state—he is widely viewed as a villain in MAGA world.
But Romney is looking beyond the next year, and beyond the president’s base, as he tries to lay the groundwork for a post-Trump Republican Party. While he acknowledges the failures of his own presidential campaign, he told me that he doubts Trump’s electoral coalition will be replicable in the long run. “We have to get young people and Hispanics and African Americans to vote Republican,” he said, adding that he hopes these voters will see his resistance to Trump as a sign that one day they could find a home in the GOP. If that seems naive, the senator is probably okay with it. In cynical times like these, someone has to serve as the guardian of lost causes.
After all, Romney said, “the president will not be the president forever.”

EXO Reaction to: You Acting in or Creating Dark Content
Anon: Yes yes YES i've been waiting for this uvu Your reactions are always nice and not everyone i full on cool and bad boy or all dominant daddies, how do you expect EXO to react if their gf/bf was someone who created horror videos online and they could walk in on her filming something creepy like a fake murder scene with too much blood or they are painted and wearing a scary costume? Its a bit big but i'm a bit too excited ha In short "EXO reactions to their partner being a horror content creator"
Anon: I saw your post about requests being open soo- EXO reacting to their S/O being an actress but only doing really dark roles. Like villains, sociopaths etc. Thank you <3
a/n: I felt like these requests were too similar to warrant separate posts. I hope that's okay with you guys!! :)
XIUMIN: Is startled from sleep by a blood curdling scream. He scrambles up in bed, blearily searching for danger before he realizes - Ah, today is (Y/N)’s filming day, someone must be getting fake murdered - and rolls over, falling back asleep.
Tumblr media
LUHAN: Finds your interest in all things dark a little troubling but wants to be the best, most supportive boyfriend he can be. He’ll watch all of your videos, no matter how nightmare inducing, hoping you don’t see through the lie as he says;
“Wow, you’re so good, babe! So, uh, realistic! Keep up the good work!”
Tumblr media
KRIS: As a dutiful boyfriend, he wants to support you when he can, including playing a role in your next short horror film. Being a fake mob boss is fun, he finds, and the fake blood washes off surprisingly easily. The video goes viral on YouTube, making him feel so proud of being a part of the project that garnered his s/o success.
Tumblr media
SUHO: “Your acting is so good, sometimes I really believe you have a secret torture room. But that’s just a character, right? ... Right?”
Tumblr media
LAY: Overall, he’s just a sweetheart filled with love. Besides that, he’s a man and there’s something about the tight assassins outfit you wore for your latest movie that’s ... interesting.
“Did they let you keep the outfit? ... Why? Oh, no reason, just curious.”
Tumblr media
BAEKHYUN: Loves being an extra, supportive boyfriend. Sure, horror kind of scares him but if it makes you happy, then it makes him happy too. To broaden his acting prospects, he takes a role alongside you in a horror film that quickly garners attention worldwide.
[Movie Scene] Baekhyun runs, splashing through puddles, gasping for air. When he thinks he’s far enough away, your figure appears through the pouring rain. Shock and fear leave him speechless. Moonlight glints off the knife in your hand.
“Hello again,” your character smirks.
“Well, shit.”
Tumblr media
CHEN: *You’re Jongin.* After your latest production goes well, a party is thrown in celebration. A wine drunk Jongdae decides to make a speech, proudly holding you close and pinching your cheeks.
“Ah ~ I’m so proud of my baby, even if they’re super into gore and murder. At least I know that should someone assassinate me, my (Y/N) knows how to get revenge and honour my memory - No, Chanyeol, you’re not in my will.”
Tumblr media
CHANYEOL: Whenever he watches your content, he can’t help but think of himself in that position, being the frightened victim as you stab them, fake blood spurting out.
“Babe, just promise me one thing ... Don’t brutally murder me, please.”
Tumblr media
D.O: Although he supports you, he takes a more subtle approach than Chen. He follows all your fansites, loves the memes your fans make, reads the reviews of your films. He has connections and tries to subtly pull strings, knowing you want to gain notoriety through hard work, not because your boyfriend is famous.
“Hey, Joong-Ki, did you see this recent movie? The characters are well written with powerful performances, I think you would suite this. Have you considered acting in horror movies before?”

TAO: *ignore captions* The way Tao supports you is different to all the other members. He, personally, doesn’t like creepy gore things. Meaning he won’t watch the horror content you create but he does use Daddy’s credit card to finance whatever project you do.
Support through finance is something he learned from his parents, whether it’s right or wrong, and it’s how he shows his love for you.

KAI: He tries his best to be an honest person, meaning he openly talks about the relationship and about your films. He promotes the films through his social media accounts and often jokes on shows or by leaving comments on your IG that:
“Wow, this character is so attractive, they look so similar to my (Y/N), isn’t that a coincidence haha.”
Tumblr media
SEHUN: Similar to Kyungsoo, he won’t outright say his support for your work. Instead he likes all the meme twitter accounts, sometimes re-tweeting the super funny ones. If anyone says something especially rude, not the generic “u r so fat lol” by trolls but something vile and disgusting, his smart mouth comes to the rescue.
