I feel that there can be potential darkness in Larry and Lawrie and I will not not cook about it even if it’s trash

I’ve seen people draw L+L silly, goofy all that stuff and it’s not wrong it’s fun still. Thing is I think people think that L+L are 100% good (maybe I don’t think I seen enough L+L content tbh).

But I have a question, do they have morality?

You see in their voicelines they’ve never said they’ll do it for the good of people only that rules are the best and people should follow the rules.

Now listen Morality can equal to laws but laws can’t be equal to morality

For example, there could’ve been laws that hurt a certain minority or laws that would’ve shield people away from the truth of their country or something. You know dictators control.

And personally I think they’re more laws than morality or at least choosing laws over people/morality.

In my HC they prob see the world in a black and white situation. You’re either good or bad and though while there may be some cases that it’s gray I think they wouldn’t think about too much or they’ll follow the rules even if they care.

(Though this is a bit of a bad take since I HC Lawrie as trans but then again apparently there’s Transphobic Trans People soo there’s that but there’s still plenty of ways to explore this though)

And with this, this is why I like contrasting or have them interacting with Willow and Angelo.

Both Willow and Angelo are unapologetically themselves, yes they are mean and toxic but they’re themselves enjoying what they like.

And with their toxicity L+L have to control them the very thing that Willow and Angelo don’t like.

Which is why I like thinking interactions of them, it’s mostly comedy but I think there can be potential well say foils or opposite viewpoints ish.

Again Angelo and Willow are unapologetically themselves mean and toxic but what if I told you there can be still morality ish to them?

Ex: They can be mean to other mean or even worse people.

Plus they could have gray viewpoints (or I guess black ish gray they’re more in the selfish side)

Ex: I feel like both of them (or Angelo) would know that no matter what people will still hate you. You may be absolute perfection doing nothing wrong following rules and being a good person overall. People will still hate you. And plus you have yourselves you don’t need anyone to approve of what you are, you have yourself to be approve of. And so they don’t have to be nice to everyone. Yes selfish, but so everyone else is actually. And that person you hate that also hate you? There could be a very valid reason that they hate you. Heck you’re maybe the problematic one here. (Long story short basically the song Villain by Stella Jang)

And with their contrasting viewpoints L+L would be like “we’re just trying to help people and have them follow rules!” And Willow and Angelo “rules mules do you have any idea that they can be bad and toxic too?” L+L “I see you have chosen death” Willow and Angelo “see here you are wanting to help people but wanting to kill us? Aren’t we people too? Monsters can be human and human can be monsters. Anyways ew we’re speaking like we have morality so like- HAHAHAHA NOPE FOR FUN 4EVER FOOLSSSS”

Or if Willow and Angelo have a sad backstory (in my HC Willow getting taken advantage of and Angelo being rejected and hated by bigotry and yes that does make them hypocrites when doing the same to others but victims can be a holes too, maybe internalized hatred arc?) “then why didn’t people like YOU help us prevent from being THIS?” L+L “O_O, damn we’re sorry we can help-“ W+A “Ha? Help? Nahhhh we got this covered lmao we don’t neeeeeed help we have ourselves.”

(Also it has just occurred to me that L+L and W+A both have something to do with control so there’s that)

Oh and ig it also makes sense for the Starr park lore where Larry and Lawrie seemingly good is actually controlling people.

Other than that, that’s my rant, I feel like I badly explain this esp with Angelo and Willow morality thing part, and esp that there’s prob but most likely better people with gray morality thing (though it has just occurred to me… that Gray would’ve been the one DAMN IT- yea I see Gray as being part of Gray morality) but I do hope I get my point across people.

Scratch in Scratch the Surface vs I Wanna Dance With Some-Ollie

[[[spoilers for season 2]]]

Long post sorry

I've been comparing these two episodes a lot, especially after the song Ghosts Aren't the Enemy from Book Marks the Sprite reminding me SO much of Lose-Lose from season 1. The conflicts are pretty similar, Molly has to keep someone from finding out about Scratch because of real and disastrous consequences, although instead of the flow of failed phantoms, this season it's the ghost chaser Chens. They aren't directly comparable since the contexts are different (Libby is a close friend and Ollie is a romantic interest) ((I'M SPEAKING CANONICALLY DON'T KILL ME SHIPPERS)) and the plot of Some-Ollie isn't really "hide Scratch" it's more focused on Molly and Ollie's relationship and how Scratch is reacting to it. Speaking of which:

Scratch's reaction to Molly's concerns about Libby is very dismissive. He doesn't really care about her and he's not super invested in Molly's personal problems either. The only times he's helped her out (at this point in the series) is when it personally affects him or he feels familiar pity for her. (First Day Frights and The Best Concert Ever are good examples of this) He's not completely won over by her antics yet. And while he is concerned for her wellbeing at this point, it's more like the sort of concern and worry you feel when you see somebody who's clearly not gonna be able to make the entire 5k run. Like you're worried but it's better if you just don't get involved. Baseline empathy, really

He does start cracking when Molly asks if she can tell Libby because she's misinterpreting the situation. Even during this, Molly doesn't break Scratch's trust and doesn't outright tell her without asking first. Knowing what we know about Scratch now, I think he's always had a soft spot for friendships and hates seeing them end, even subconsciously. He smiles as Molly runs away to catch up with Libby but he's still not happy about it. Yeah he warms up to Libby but telling anyone about him is a potential danger, especially if they feel the need to tell anyone else.

And in Friend-Off, he didn't really have a justifiable reason to be a jerk to Libby other than Molly's scavenger hunt they were both forced to do. Everything he said (both of them said really) was out of a place of pure jealousy. He even admits that at the end of the episode.

What's important to point out is this entire episode he's only thinking about himself (not an uncommon trend for this character) and is only willing to sacrifice when pushed to do so. Not saying he's necessarily written badly in this episode, far from it, but it is quite a contrast between that and his actions in the season 2 episode 5a segment I Wanna Dance With Some-Ollie.

I'd like to preface this with one of the scrapped titles for this ep was "Molly's Choice" and I think that will haunt me till I die that's such an evil title

I Wanna Dance With Some-Ollie is a VERY compelling episode. While the set up for it and Scratch the Surface is similar, this one feels like it has more stakes involved. Molly has a crush on Oliver Chen, a ghost hunter, and you can see how that could immediately cause issues. Scratch is even more dismissive towards Molly at points because of this, even colder and snappier than some of season 1a in my opinion. (For good reason obviously) and while Scratch's concerns here are mostly fear for his own safety, it's also jealousy. If he was so worried about Ollie catching him, he wouldn't be around him at all, let alone trying to sabotage the dance.

Molly doesn't take the threat the Chens pose very seriously and dismisses most of Scratch's concerns. (Not that she's a bad friend for this, she just thinks they're silly YouTubers and wants to enjoy a middle school dance) Scratch eventually blows up on her and they get into a rather brutal argument for an episode 5 of a DTVA show. It's presented in the usual silly way but they both say some rather insensitive things to each other in the heat of the moment.

We've NEVER seen them disagree this hard on anything. They've had differing opinions before but neither of them is budging on this one. They split off and you can see what Molly said to him hurt. She seemingly chose what was more important to her. He seemed to look back as if he was debating on going back in to apologize to her for what he said and did too because she just wants to have a good time and he was trying to ruin that. But he decides he's the last thing she needs right now and starts to go home, only to get caught in a spectral snare.

Here's the REALLY important part I need y'all to listen closely:

He had every right to an "I told you so". He had every right to tell her never to see Ollie again and to even consider moving just to save his metaphorical skin. But he doesn't. She apologizes first and he interjects with his own apology for trying to ruin her night. Her happiness is what's most important to him now. That priority shift happened since Out of House and Home, maybe arguably even sooner. He doesn't tell her never to see him again, in fact he IMPLIES that she should be able to do what she wants and he wouldn't interfere anymore. It was Molly's choice to cut it off with Ollie after seeing Scratch in that much danger.

He's still a self centered jerk with possessive tendencies and separation anxiety but it's important to point out that he recognizes Molly as her own person and he shouldn't interfere with her happiness. I think season 1a Scratch wouldn't have even LET her go to the dance with a ghost hunter as her co-chair to begin with. I know I don't need to defend Scratch's actions since most people are on his side in this episode (a weird change of pace) but I needed to get my thoughts out about him and his development so far. My boy has come so far, they feel like good, real friends. Also I'm just gonna reiterate Molly wasn't completely at fault here because she just wanted to enjoy the dance and both her and Scratch had equal fault in this scenario, that's called ✨good writing✨, you don't have to pick a side. THE WORLD ISN'T BLACK AND WHITE, OLLIE

I hope they address Scratch's jealous nature in a future episode, especially since they're hinting towards an Ollie redemption. After the ghost hunting fear is gone, that jealousy is gonna still be there, I'm kind of hoping after that talk outside of the school where Scratch resigned himself to whatever Molly wanted to do, he wouldn't be too jealous of him and we won't have a Friend-Off 2 or something. (Although if he decides to be a little petty and messes with Ollie a little, I welcome that. That sounds really funny honestly)

I feel like halfway through this I just started rambling, I hope my point made it across clearly LOL tldr; scratch is a well written character and he means so much to me and if I see any Molly/Ollie/Mollie slander on my account I will be throwing hands <3

I'm completely fascinated by Cassandra's character. But I noticed that here on Tumblr some people romanticize her relationship with Agamemnon and I was very surprised, as I always thought it was obvious that it was a toxic relationship. You seem to understand more about this subject than I do, but did Cassandra have any affection for Agamemnon? Or even Agamemnon for her?

Hi anon! And thank you for the question, I had a lot of fun writing this.

That's a very complicated question, but I'll be my best (disclaimer that I'm not an expert, but I do read a lot).

We do have to take the relationship in its cultural context a little bit. A lot of people do seem to make Agamemnon a lot worse than he is in the texts. The fact that he took a concubine after a war would have been completely acceptable behaviour (Achilles does it, and we mostly forgive him), and doesn't really prove that he must have been violent to her or anything like that. I'm not saying that these attitudes are, or were ever, okay, but the fact that he is coming from a society in which slavery was fine means we can't just assume he is a monster on the basis of him having a slave. But I think that considering this context can also only take us so far. I find it difficult to believe that victims were less troubled by these occurrences, just because they were an accepted part of their society.

In terms of how Agamemnon views Cassandra, I do think there is something resembling affection. In Aeschylus's Agamemnon, he asks Clytemnestra to be kind to her, and in Euripides's Hecabe, Hecabe appeals to Agamemnon almost as her son-in-law, asking for his help, considering the "warm embraces" he enjoys with Cassandra. In Euripides's Trojan Women, Agamemnon takes her as his "bride", and Talthybius remarks that "Love for the god-inspired girl pierced Agamemnon's heart" (James Morwood translation), again suggesting affection, not just lust for her. But, then again, as he cannot possibly have known Cassandra for long enough to base this love on anything except her looks, can we really say it's any different (there is also the view that Apollo orchestrated the pairing, more on that later)? Ultimately, he still feels entitled to marry (have sex with) this pretty girl, by virtue of him being the general of the army that destroyed her home (cultural context is important, but its still hard to see past some things). Still, I do think that this shows that the popular interpretation of Agamemnon as a cruel old man is inaccurate. He definitely cares about Cassandra, and really only feels entitled to her in a completely socially acceptable way.

How Cassandra views Agamemnon is a bit trickier I think. In Euripides’s Trojan Women, I struggle to read anything other than her hating him. She admittedly does express a desire to marry him, but this is because she views it as a way to ensure his death (even if it comes alongside hers). So, she is motivated entirely by a desire for revenge, firmly believing that the match was orchestrated by Apollo, meaning that any acceptance she shows isn’t really any sign of love, just submitting to her fate with the knowledge that she is sealing his. In Aeschylus’s Agamemnon, I think there is a bit more apparent affection. She obviously hates Clytemnestra, and speaks badly of her murder of Agamemnon, which she callas an “accused deed” (Henry Howard translation), so this dislike doesn’t just seem to be of the woman who will kill her, but mourning for Agamemnon as well.

I think it’s worth noting as well that these characters are really more archetypes that can fulfil a different role in whatever story they are involved in, than any concrete characters with distinct personalities. So even amongst ancient sources, opinions vary depending on what the writer intended to use them to show. For example, Aeschylus's Agamemnon is a pretty standard tragic hero plot. Here it makes sense to portray the relationship positively, to highlight Agamemnon as a hero and Clytemnestra as a villain (in very simple terms, since I’d need a whole essay to get into it fully). On the other hand, In the Trojan Women, Euripides was trying to commentate on the horror and futility of war, particularly for the women of the losing side, so it makes much more sense for Cassandra to hate her new master and be vengeful towards him. I would say that even the modern retellings can be valid as well, they are just taking these archetypes, and applying them to their own narrative (it’s just that the extent from which they have derived from the myth varies considerably).

Basically, how I view them depends almost entirely on what version I am reading. When I make my own interpretation, I would say that I don't romanticise them, and that I generally view Agamemnon as somewhat loving Cassandra, but Cassandra despising him, although he treats he fairly well. At the end of the day, he is the general behind the army that ruined her life. I do also sometimes like portrayals where they have a better relationship, but this is more because I love Cassandra and want to see her be happy than anything else.

So overall, it's not very clear cut, and a lot of Agamemnon hate is a bit unjustified (he acts like a petulant child sometimes, but honestly every hero does). While I don't think it is possible to ignore the fact that Cassandra has no agency in the relationship, it may be worthy of note that even in modern law, she could still be capable of consenting (evidential presumptions would fall onto the defence to prove the presence of consent under s75 of the Sexual offences act 2003, so consent would actually still be hypothetically possible, just harder to prove in current English law, obviously not super relevant here, but I do think it is interesting that this isn't automatically legally rape- I am stretching the statute a bit here to say that Cassandra's slavery is akin to unlawful detention, which isn't strictly true, but since slavery is illegal in any case it's the closest comparison I could think of).

Their relationship is inherently unequal, and impossible to form a conclusive judgement on, but I don't think either extreme view is particularly helpful for analysis (although completely fine for making your own interpretations).

Here are some of his canon vices!

Very self-deprecating - It gets better later on and especially as Flora hypes him up, but Helia tends to think of himself and his actions in a very negative way and doesn't do much to challenge that narrative. He unconsciously relies on the others to make himself feel better a lot!

Self-critical - A thing that can be good in moderation, but like all vices, Helia takes it too far. He's overly observant and critical of himself to the point where it's like he's playing the observer all the time. He then gets anxious and convinces himself he's a horrible person cause he made One mistake. Way to go dude

Escapist - He has a hard time sticking around once he's convinced himself that people would be better off without him.

On a similar note, avoiding conflict. It may not seem obvious since Helia occasionally calls out the others, but that only happens when he's genuinely not in the wrong (or doesn't feel in the wrong). If something happens that he thinks he caused or was involved in, he tends to avoid that conflict and fallout.

And if I'm being honest, avoidance in general. Again, it's one of those things that gets missed easily, but that sort of mysteriousness/shyness that people often see in Helia? That's usually avoidance from him! He avoids talking to people unless they speak to him first, he avoids telling people about himself or his life, he'll outright ignore people if he doesn't like them, etcetc. There are times when it's for a good reason (not talking to the trix for example) and times when it's incredibly annoying and counterproductive (like with the specialists or flora). It should be noted that this behavior mostly shows up in his personal life rather than on missions but if anything, I think that shows he's aware of this but doesn't change it.

Impulsive - Again, it may not seem like it but Helia is very impulsive! A lot of the decisions he makes throughout canon are done in the moment and with very little thinking. It's easy to miss because Helia is a fast thinker and quick on his feet so his actions often seem more planned out than they actually are, but if you look at the individual actions themselves and how quick he makes them after Just thinking of them, it gets really obvious. In the show, I'd say the best and most well-known example would be in his introduction episode, aka the monster stunt. Again, it's easy to miss, but that wasn't planning or cautious thinking from him, that was full on impulsivity (both grabbing the monster And leaving). Other good examples would be the Shaab Stone arc in the comics (literally an entire arc of Helia being impulsive as hell), the s2 florelia kiss scene, Helia saving Sky in s2 when they're in Darkar's Fortress, and him running up to every enemy.

I'm not sure what you would call this, maybe recklessness?, but Helia often has very little regard for his own safety. He regularly puts himself into dangerous situations that he doesn't Need to be in without thinking about how badly it's gonna hurt him. Well,,, he does think about whether or not it'll kill him, but if the answer is "no", then it doesn't matter how much danger he's in, he's gonna do it. This often ends with one of the specialists yelling at him which is funny but Still. I do think it's important to note that he's not reckless with the other's safety (he's overly cautious with them) but he definitely is with his own.

I feel like there are others I Could list but they don't show up quite enough for me to call them his vices (ie the occasional stubbornness, lack of confidence, or jealousy). I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS LIST OF HIS MENTAL ANGUISHES I KNOW I DO

I have to comment on the subtle way TMBS uses Curtain’s father relationship with SQ to show the contrast between him and Curtain in the books.

I love the books and the tv show, and I think both sets of characters are fantastic. However, in some cases, they are different characters and Curtain is a great example (from a character writing standpoint and also literally, Nathaniel Benedict and his backstory with Nicholas are not in the books). But what really sells it for me is how Curtain treats his son in the few scenes we do see and the few things we know about their relationship. 1) Show Curtain actually adopts SQ. In the books he comes to care about him, but he would never take the step of openly considering him family, even though it would have almost guaranteed book SQ’s loyalty. This version of Curtain does adopt SQ despite his vulnerability trigger. (I won’t get too into my “Curtain/Garrison/Milligan/SQ’s dad were friends that fell apart theory” cause that’s a whole other thing but click here to start that rabbit hole). 2) Show Curtain doesn’t involve SQ in his work. Book Curtain uses SQ as an executive/messenger, puts him in the whisperer and repeatedly wipes his memory to keep him by his side. Show SQ was not an executive or messenger (in fact he has no idea what his dad does) and so far has shown no signs of being brain swept. Even in season 2, when Marlon asks if SQ can come back for the next stage and Curtain says no, we as the audience assume this implies SQ has already been given the “happiness” but what if Curtain’s refusal to bring SQ back was actually him preventing SQ from taking the artificial happiness? (They didn’t get the actor back so I guess we’ll never know).

3) Show Curtain encourages SQ’s artistic talent. I’ve seen a lot of fics where Curtain resents that SQ is artistic and wishes he were “smart”, but if you watch the show, Curtain doesn’t do that. He does art projects with his son, he has rules about him going to the forest to paint but he still lets him go, and when Garrison interrupts Curtain, he doesn’t snap at SQ to do his homework, he suggests his son sketch, an activity he knows SQ enjoys. It would be easy to have a scene of Curtain admonishing SQ for his grades or not appreciating his art, but instead the writers chose to put in scenes showing the opposite.

4) When Reynie gives Curtain a narcoleptic seizure in the season 1 finale, it’s SQ that really sets him off. At first Curtain tries to mock what Reynie says: “I don’t think I’m a bad person either who thinks that?/“ok this is embarrassing”, but once he mentions SQ, Curtain gets visibly uncomfortable like “oh he went there oh no” and goes “okay, that’s enough that’s enough”, and realizes that he is losing this fight.

5) Finally, yes, we do see that Curtain is a bad father to SQ. I’m not denying that. The man deserves to be nailed by a golf cart. But: the main times when we see Curtain being a bad parent have a pattern: they occur when SQ is in danger of discovering who Curtain really is. The first is when he asks to bring Reynie to the forest. Curtain panics, realizing Reynie might be working for Nicholas, and now he’s forming a friendship with his son. Telling SQ that Reynie is using him was cruel and SQ is clearly devastated. SQ shows an awareness that his father speaks to others that way (he sees how his father speaks to Garrison) but might not be used to his father speaking to him that way which is why he takes it so badly. Then there’s when Curtain interrogates SQ, asking if he took a friend to the forest/if Reynie is really his friend, and SQ throws back in his face the “right cause who’d be friends with me” line and openly lies to him. Book Curtain would have at least called him out, or much worse. Show Curtain doesn’t, even though he knows his son is lying. Whether it’s because he’s scared his son is turning against him or because he’s ashamed of what he said to SQ earlier (“how many friends have you had”?) or because he doesn't want his son to be more suspicious, we can only speculate. Finally, SQ confronts Curtain about the antennas after finding Reynie’s letter and refuses to tell his dad about his conversation with Reynie. At this point, Curtain doesn’t know how much his son knows or what he will do. He could brain-sweep him. He could yell and tell SQ to never disrespect him again. Instead, he handles it in kind of a weird way where he admits to being under stress and having clouded judgment (which is a very rare moment of vulnerability and emotional awareness not just from Curtain, but from any abusive parent) and asks his son to please leave, though rather forcefully. Obviously, comparing him to book Curtain puts the bar on the floor and show Curtain was still horrible and should have told the truth, but the other negative alternative ways to handle that situation (Book Curtain’s torture and brain sweeping) would have been so much worse.

One of the most interesting aspects is how Show Curtain compartmentalized his son and his work so much that they became totally separate and how little SQ knows since he’s not working as a messenger or executive. SQ, on his end, has likely seen the way his father treats others, but work stresses out a lot of people, some people are ruthless in their careers but are good parents, he probably wishes his dad was different so he could have friends (because every other kid at the institute has to be controlled by Curtain, or at least is striving to please him at all times, which prevents genuine friendships), but his dad never does those things to him or at least not to that extent. So as long as SQ never talks to his dad about work (in his mind: “because it stresses him out”), his dad will never treat him the way he treats everyone else and since SQ has never know anything else, life seems alright to him. It’s only when Reynie starts pointing out Curtain’s flaws that SQ questions him and starts to see that maybe there’s more going on.

This could also explain SQ’s season 2 absence. SQ was on the boat, he knows how his dad screwed Garrison over. His biological father used to work for his dad. And SQ will never know whether Curtain screwed his biological dad over like he did Garrison, because Curtain will never be vulnerable enough to tell him the truth. Meanwhile, Curtain also realizes that his son is now curious about his work, and keeping his double life and his son would involve going a step beyond lies/gaslighting and doing the things book Curtain did to his SQ and show Curtain so far has been unwilling to do that. So SQ now has a motivation to leave and Curtain has a motivation to let him go: SQ can’t trust his father after what Reynie told him/what he did to Garrison and the only way Curtain can make SQ stay is by forcing him or messing with his free will/memories and so far he has refused to do that, at least that we know of (granted Curtain could have also told SQ the truth and voluntarily changed his ways, but after lying for so long, SQ might have chosen to leave anyway).

Curious to hear people’s thoughts on this, I really hope they work it into the season 3 plot. (Currently pulling for the “sister kidnaps SQ at art college” theory)

Namjoon is the type of boyfriend whose parents and family members will never stop talking about how he is the one you should marry. Your friends love him—even people that normally dislike the person they date now feel good about his partner. He is a logical person, able to figure out how to avoid conflict. Good people feel comfortable and safe in general. Namjoon is great at balancing his work and personal/

He is someone who likes to dive deep into trying to figure people out. So much that he can be the type to commit himself to doing things that person likes. Almost becoming the person, but not in a creepy way. Just in the way of others, for example, if his partner asks him to swim and they both love swimming, Even if he has a fear of the ocean, he is going to dive into the water, but he still has that life jacket.

This does feel more like the past energy of who he used to be, as of now he is the type to speak up more. So if he goes to his partner's house and their family is talking badly about beliefs, he will be someone who calls out others around him.

In every relationship, he can act differently depending on what he wants at the moment. At the end of the day, he is someone who enjoys his own company. I still pulled the hermit card for him. He for sure doesn't think love is a fairy tale with a loving happy ending at the moment. There are some people who he knows are always trying to dig up information, so he knows that he has to be careful in his relationship. When it comes to privacy, it depends on the person.

I think episode 8 of Yuri Kuma Arashi is kind of the perfect example of the issues I’m having with this show. Because on the surface, all the symbolism and commentary are spot fucking on.

I’ve danced around it a bit in my posts, but to me, YKA is very clearly commenting on the “pure yuri” genre, as it’s sometimes known. To simplify for time, it’s a certain attitude that goes into writing yuri stories where the girls are shut off from the real world. They don’t read like actual lesbians living full lives, they come off as porcelain dolls kept safe and pristine in their little doll houses. It’s an infantilizing strain of writing that doesn’t really care about portraying queer experiences as much as it cares about selling fluffy fantasies of surface-level cute gayness, separated from the reality of what it actually means to be gay in today’s world.

To be clear, I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with queer escapist fantasy like that. God knows us LGBTQs could use a few perfectly happy stories where we don’t have to think about how much the real world sucks for us. But there’s a certain point where it feels like a lot of yuri stories aren’t written to actually speak to a genuine lesbian experience, but just to present a safe, non-threatening plastic approximation of it to make it more palatable to hetero consumers. Trapping queerness in an unbreakable bubble where it can play out in harmless separation from the real world, a greenhouse full of beautiful flowers that can’t survive outside its walls. No need to think about gay people’s place in “normal” society, either from the perspective of a gay person trying to navigate it or a straight person trying to understand and empathize with their struggles. And I say this as someone who’s loved plenty of fluffy yuri stories: it’s not healthy for so much of the genre to be dominated by that stuff.

So theoretically, I should be really receptive to what YKA is doing. A vicious deconstruction of the harmful expectations that the pure yuri genre places on actual queer people? How it boxes in their experiences and stunts their humanity by reducing it to a harmless, commodified product? With a main villain who was explicitly broken by being locked one such box until she began to see herself as filthy for every minor misstep and grew obsessed with trapping all girls like her in those boxes too, scared the world wold break them as badly as it broke her? I should be so on board for that. That’s exactly the kind of commentary I should be foaming at the mouth over.

The problem is that the show serving that commentary just isn’t very interesting on its own terms.

Like, do I understand the point of Yurika’s role as antagonist? Sure. Do I get the importance of the metaphors that drive Kureha to try and kill Ginko? Absolutely. Do either of those things make me care about them on a deep, personal level? No. Because the sad truth it, these characters are not interesting outside their place in the metanarrative. Strip away the commentary these characters exist to serve and there’s basically nothing left. You can watch Utena without a master’s thesis in feminist theory and still care about Utena trying to save Anthy from her shackles. You can watch Sarazanmai without a PhD in child psychology and still have a blast with the kids’ struggles for connection. You can even watch Penguindrum, confusing mess though it may be at times, and care about Kanba, Shu and Himari even when you don’t understand exactly why things happen the way they do. But you cannot watch and enjoy Yuri Kuma Arashi unless you care more about the overarching metaphors and message of a story than the story itself. If anything, it reminds me less of any other Ikuhara show and more of the similarly meta-narrative heavy Re:Creators: a very good message that I definitely agree with, but man does the story conveying that message not measure up on its own.

I genuinely wanted to know what it this hate for Halemond there. I am more of Rhaena N Aemond bcz for me their etl would be really hot but what's also wrong with halemond ?

For me I would prefer halemond as second choice after Rhaena.

It's surprising bcz I thought Halemond would be a ship which would be liked by everyone and even greens as well bc it's consensual relationship bet two teenagers who love each other no grooming, no harrassing, no abuse. Yes it might be anything in show later then I might change this opinion.

Ik it's incest but wtf should I do with it, so is Rhaemond. They are Targaryens and it's common for them. Moreover when nobody was forcing anything on them but if after getting all options available if Aemond still goes for his sister then clearly it's his feelings not 'family forcing tradition' which was in case of Aegon and Helaena.

But In book Alys is supposed to be an old witch who would manipulate 18 yrs old Aemond to love her for her own plan. I would enjoy Alys milf bossing Aemond too

Now how these feelings turns shape or something more while growing up we don't know or never knew

Now idk whether it was intentional or not but whatever was there, I felt Aemond was around Helaena way more than Aegon should have been whole time. From dinner scene to him entering to her room early to children speaking Aemond's name till Aegon's crowing moment, we all saw it but refuse to accept it for one reason or another.

Green Stans claiming that there so called 'duty driven boy' would never do anything like this as it would be against of his personality. Really How ? Also same green stans are ok with Aemond falling for women who represents everything he hates. An strong bastard women ? Who will be his war bride or war prize.

I can understand if Aemond and Alys actually grew like a couple becoming fond of each other while spending time but sorry it's not. Show Aemond is so much deep and guarded and according to green stans guy like him would fall in love with Alys in just some few days so badly that he's forgetting everything for her which is very unusual thing for a guy like him.

Let's talk about duty driven Aemond-

Hi, if you don't mind, I'd like to ask you something I've been wondering about for a long time as someone who enjoys Levi self insert/Oc/reader fanfics (and what you've written). I really love reading about Levi being protective of Reader and very much in love with him, written by you and other writers. But I wonder if Levi would have acted like this if he was really in love, and I'm starting to question.

For example, Levi, as we know, is a soldier who, like other Survey Corps soldiers, devoted his heart and life to humanity. And just for the future of humanity and for the salvation of some people, he is ready to sacrifice his comrades and sends his close friends to their deaths. For example, in the Shiganshina Arc, Levi suggested using Hange and the 104th group as bait so that Erwin and Eren are two important people for the future of humanity and to gain time and save them. Likewise, he was ready to sacrifice Erwin and the others to save Historia and Eren, as he said, some lives are more valuable than others.

And if we add all that together, canonically, if Levi were truly in love and the person he fell in love with was most likely an SC soldier, he would have let her be sacrificed, no matter how much he didn't like it. Because joining SC means being ready to sacrifice your own life and Levi would never put his personal feelings ahead of his duties, knowing that. And even if the person she fell in love with was planning to sacrifice herself, he wouldn't object because he is not a person who interferes in the choices and decisions of others. He wouldn't have stopped her like he did with Hange.

Speaking of my own thoughts, it's very embarrassing for me to say this but I'm indescribably obsessed with Levi as if he were real and I wish a man like him was real. And as I said, when I think that someone who has sent people close to them to death can do this to the person they love, I feel very sad in a selfish way, and it affects my mental health badly. Especially recently I've been hearing rumors about Levi hating weak people because they die so quickly. And I take it upon myself as soon as I do it because as a very weak weak person, I think he would really hate me and it hurts me to think about it, think about the person you love so much hates you…

The reason I am writing this to you is certainly not malicious, I really hope I am not bothering you with this. Just because you and other writers love Levi as much as I do, I wonder what you think about it.

Omg of course I don’t find any of this as malicious!! I’m happy you enjoy my writing/characterization of levi enough to even send this :’)

For the sake of ease of reading for those that get overwhelmed by text walls, I’ll split these into questions/sections

I’d suggest also sending this to other writers because I’m coming from the POV of someone who does not ship Levi with any characters. I know there’s some contention in the fandom over canonical romantic interests for Levi and that’s okay, but if you are (and for anyone that’s reading this) someone that does ship him, please take this with a grain of salt. I’m also not tolerating anon hate over this and will be very liberal with the report button, so for anyone that’s protective of their ships: I suggest you stop reading now and find the character analysis of someone who does partake in these ships.

Here are some assumptions I am going to make:

➼ Reader is a Scout and ideally on Squad Levi ➼ We’re not going with any aspects of controlling/yandere/overprotective!Levi (even though those can be kinda hot to write about aksdflsdjk)

“Levi is ready to sacrifice comrades and sends close friends to their deaths”

So this is where I see the divide between my perspective as a non-shipper and the perspective of someone who does partake in shipping. Levi’s relationship with all the canon characters is professional first, personal second. By this logic, I do see him as being willing to suggest sacrificing his comrades for the sake of humanity, as much as he would hate it on a personal level—and this increases as things get more and more extreme. For example, I do not think he would be willing to sacrifice a close comrade in season 1 to catch Annie. I think if he knew that so many Scouts were going to die, he would legitimately question if he would bring someone like his s/o along. However, by late season 4, when the world is literally about to end, then he might place more emphasis on the fate of humanity over his personal feelings regarding a close friend/comrade or his s/o.

“Levi has devoted his heart and life to humanity”

To be honest, I think this is only really the case because of the deaths of Isabel and Farlan. If they (or his s/o that he brought with him from the Underground) were still alive, I think his priorities would shift. This could also be a perspective change depending on how people cope with grief. From what I see, Levi has channeled his grief into wanting to protect humanity and defeat the Titans that took his loved ones from him, which could translate into what we see as his intense devotion to saving humanity. With this said, I think there are two different trajectories that we would have to discuss when this is in context of an s/o:

“If his s/o came with him from the Underground”

Since he already had this connection prior to officially joining the Scouts, I don’t think he would put his devotion to humanity above his s/o. His relationship with them would be along the lines of how close he was with Farlan/Isabel. He’d be DEVASTATED if something happened to them. Especially having already lost Farlan and Isabel, this is probably the one case where I can see how Levi might go into overprotective/pseudo-controlling mode. You’re his last attachment. My self-indulgent fic is actually exploring this :’D And a huge part of the story is Levi slowly being able to have faith in the reader again that they could take care of themselves on the battlefield and that he doesn’t need to hover over them or constantly worry, since the last time he “had faith”, the two other people he loved got brutally killed in front of him. So in this case, no, I don’t think he would be willing to sacrifice his s/o. If he felt like there was absolutely no other choice AND you were insistent on it, then he might concede and allow it, but not without heavy resistance first.

“If his s/o was a Scout first and they developed feelings along the way”

There has to be a whole-ass arc about Levi even allowing himself to get attached. This is what is commonly unable to portrayed in one-shots/drabbles unless it’s mentioned in passing. It would take a lot of work for Levi to be able to find the balance of allowing you to still do your duties as a Scout while also allowing himself the space to be emotionally vulnerable to the potential of losing you. In this case, I still don’t think he would want to sacrifice you, but he might consider it more than he would in the previous scenario. It becomes a worst case scenario thing. It also depends on at what point in the story he becomes emotionally attached to you. If it’s early season 1, he honestly might not have even considered the fact that you would even need to ever be sacrificed. Their goal was running around, trying to clear Titans and find a way to take back Wall Maria. This is in contrast to season 4, in which self-sacrifice is a very real possibility, especially after Eren does his thing. However, although he’d consider it, I don’t think he’d ever suggest it. He might think it, but I don’t think he’d suggest it unless he literally has no other option. And since you’re both on the Scouts, he’s never going to suggest you sacrifice yourself without your consent. It’ll be a mutual decision. He’s not going to throw your life away.

“Canonically, he’d sacrifice his s/o no matter how much he didn’t like it – joining the Scouts means being ready to sacrifice your own life – Levi would never put his personal feelings ahead of his duties”

I think a main thing that we have to consider is Levi’s respect over someone’s choice. This has been emphasized from the very beginning. No matter what the hierarchy of authority is, everyone is entitled to their own decisions. I think this would play into the idea where, if you, as the s/o, make the decision that you are going to sacrifice yourself, he’ll ultimately respect that choice. He might argue, and say that there is another way, but if there really is no other way and you were adamant on that choice, he will stand by you. I think this is why he was able to let Hange sacrifice themselves or be willing to sacrifice Erwin to protect Historia/Eren. All of these involved all parties being on the same page. Hange made the choice to stay back and fight the Titans (and was actually excited about it which is so Hange-like it made me cry given how depressed they were during the entirety of season 4 sdkfsld). He and Erwin discussed the importance of both Eren to save humanity through using his ability to seal the wall as well as the implications of what Historia could bring for the fate of humanity (and knowing what’s outside the Walls). All of these choices were made by the other party. He was never forcing that on anyone and he would never force them to not do it either. An example is when he was trying to force Erwin to stay behind before leaving for Shiganshina to seal the wall. He felt pretty strongly about forcing him to stay behind, but ultimately conceded to Erwin coming along because he was respecting Erwin’s choice. So if you were adamant on sacrificing yourself for the greater good, he ultimately won’t stop you. He’d provide resistance and try to think of other ways, but if it is what you want, then he will respect it. And I don’t think this is necessarily because of Levi’s sense of duty. I think it’s more because he is prioritizing respecting your choice and trusting your judgement. I agree with your point about Levi not wanting to interfere with others’ choices, but I don’t see that as a bad thing. I’d actually find it incredibly condescending if he literally forced me against something that I trust to be a good decision in the name of protecting me. So I don’t see him as someone that would interfere with my choices, either.

I’d also say that your obsession with Levi is 100% fine and understandable! That’s what we’re all here for and I have chatted with multiple moots that also wish that he was real—and your grief and distress over someone like him potentially being willing to sacrifice his s/o is soso valid. There’s a reason we draw so much comfort from protective!Levi.

I’m not sure where you’re hearing rumors about hating weak people. I can see him as maybe not being as willing to trust them with certain things on a professional standpoint, but I don’t think he’d hate them. That said, I do think he would be very hesitant to form attachments because he recognizes the reality of the world that he is in, but hesitant does not mean that he won’t. If the attachment forms, it’s going to be there, no matter how hard he tries to push you away. It’ll be something that the two of you would have to explore as a couple, but I 100% do not agree with the stance that he hates weak people.

At the end of the day, as much as we like it or not, he is a fictional character. And I know that there’s so much contention over writing him in character or whatever, but a philosophy I always love to use when I’m writing or just daydreaming is that because he is fictional, I can technically shape him into whatever I want. Like we can have the most ridiculous headcanons and it is okay. So if we want to write him as fiercely protective and dropping his duty entirely to preserve his s/o’s life, then go ahead and write it. Others might not vibe with it, but fanfiction is and always will be self-indulgent first.

Daybreak review

I finished watching Daybreak yesterday. It's a Netflix show. Only had one season before it was canceled. Amazing show. This review has no major spoilers, despite me wanting so badly to be specific about what I loved about it. I don't want to spoil anything just in case anyone wants to watch it.

It's a post-apocalyptic comedy show. It's about a teenage boy named Josh who is searching for his girlfriend, Sam, after the end of the world. The adults had turned into zombies, and teenage street gangs rule the city.

Matthew Broderick is in it. I loved him in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It was nice to see him here. He was hilarious in this show. He plays Principal Burr, the funniest character in Daybreak.

The main characters are Josh, Angelica, and Wesley. The fourth one is a guy named Eli. He's in the white shirt in the picture I posted. Josh in red. Wesley is the Black boy. Angelica is the girl.

Josh wants to find his girlfriend. Wesley is a ronin-obsessed guy who wants to redeem himself. Angelica is a mischievous little girl. Eli is an annoying guy who lives in the mall Josh, Wesley, and Angelica end up staying at. There's another character too, an adult named Ms. Crumble. Her bond with Angelica is the best thing about this show. It was nice seeing them grow closer over the course of the show. There are other great bonds in Daybreak too.

Anyway.

The first two episodes were somewhat lame. I remember being a bit bored while watching them. Episode three was better. I started to (slightly) enjoy the show then. Episode three was when the characters started to bond with each other and stop being such selfish jerks. That's definitely what made me begin liking the show. The characters caring about each other.

Anyway, episode four was amazing. There was a big heroic moment. Funny moments too, like when two certain characters were fighting. One of them got something hot thrown into eyes, and he casually shouted something like "Ow. My eyes. That really hurt." It was hilarious because in real life, someone would be screaming in agony or yelling out a bunch of curse words if their eyes were in that much pain. Earlier in the episode, the same character casually said hi to him after unmasking himself. It was supposed to be a big revealing moment, but this character's casualness made the scene so hilarious.

Episode four really shows some great character depth, too. That's when the characters really start getting interesting. In this episode, the heroes in this show start to become fun to watch, and so do the villains.

After episode four, each episode is amazing and well-written. This show was so unpredictable, but in a good way that makes sense. You never knew what would happen, unless you've been paying attention or are a smart person. Like, one character was going to use maggots to deal with another one's infected wound. I knew what the maggots were going to do before the show even revealed it.

Every episode is unique in some way and you never know what's going to go down. And they use certain situations for humor in interesting ways. Like when some characters were temporarily deaf in the last episode. There was a drawn-out scene in the mall, and it was pretty funny how it went.

Sometimes big text on the screen is used as dialogue, like when Turbo "speaks". I thought that was pretty cool.

The foreshadowing is great. I never saw foreshadowing used so well before watching this show. And it's got cool references to other scenes. Like, one character would mention something, and then the next episode would show it happening. The show does this with minor stuff, too. For example, Sam mentions learning something from her teacher, Ms. Crumble. The episode after that has a flashback showing Sam learning that piece of info. I loved that.

The music is great. There are plenty of heartwarming, sweet moments. There are hilarious ones, too. A lot of them. But the best thing about Daybreak is the characterization. The characters in this show are amazing, interesting, and have depth. Wonderful character development, too. Great dialogue. And the flashbacks are all necessary. They matter to the show's present timeline, and the flashbacks were put to good use.

There are some cool bonds in this show, with the best one being the one between Angelica and Ms. Crumble.

I had a theory on who Baron Triumph was while watching the show, and the character I believed was him actually turned out to be him. It was so satisfying. That character was one of the best things about this show, too.

Also, Daybreak is not a zombie show. There are zombies in it, but they don't feature too much. The show is mainly about the teenage gangs.

I don't like fourth wall breaking, so I hate that this show has a lot of it. And if this wasn't a comedy, I probably would've loved it more. Because I love serious fiction. I don't like wacky comedies all that much. Regardless, Daybreak is an amazing comedy show with heart. Like that Japanese film Love Exposure. My favorite movie. Daybreak is probably the best comedy TV show I've watched, actually. The characters and the writing make this show so wonderful.

I recommend people watch this show.

Interesting characters. Excellent character development. Unpredictability. Great music. Heartwarming scenes. Hilarious humor. Good writing in general. Smart characters. Fantastic foreshadowing.

I'm rating Daybreak four out of five stars.

An obnoxiously long essay on why I headcanon that Bakugo Katsuki struggles with undiagnosed OCD. Trigger warnings for mental health discussion, intrusive thoughts, self degradation, depression, anxiety and more. As a hefty disclaimer before I go into too much detail, I do not claim to understand what everyone with OCD experiences; I am only speaking from personal experience as someone who was diagnosed with OCD late in life and how I've come to relate to Katsuki through common struggles seen in the show. I don't think Horikoshi intended to write him with OCD at all which is why I am firmly calling it a headcanon and nothing more. So without further ado, enjoy my ramblings and please share your thoughts !!

OCD ( Obsessive-compulsive disorder ) is, by definition, a common, chronic, and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts ("obsessions") and/or behaviors ("compulsions") that an individual feels the urge to repeat over and over. In popular media this might look to most people like the obsessive need to clean, have things organized, or repeat motions a certain number of times. Realistically, however, OCD is much broader than what is commonly seen and Psychologists are still learning about this intrinsically complicate disorder. It has over fifty ' symptoms ' to be considered when diagnosing, and many of them not at all like what anyone would expect. This is why I feel like Bakugo Katsuki would go undiagnosed, because he displays the more non-traditional signs of OCD albeit obvious ones. Here are some examples: MENTAL CONTAMINATION Mental Contamination is evoked when a person feels badly treated by their terms, whether this be an outward or perceived insult, it creates a feeling of internal uncleanliness that turns into an impulsive need to prove said person wrong and / or make them take back what they had said to trigger them in the first place. Mental Contamination does not require any physical touch, and it can spiral into a plethora of reactions based on an individual; shutting down, crying, getting angry and retaliating. Though it sounds like something everyone will go through in their life time, for an individual with OCD it becomes an obsession. Something they can't stop stressing over, thinking about, losing sleep or productivity over it and allowing a simple comment or disrespectful individual completely tear their life apart for months at a time. We see this in Katsuki a lot in his earlier years, specifically anytime Izuku seemingly ' disrespects ' or ' patronizes ' him ( as perceived by Katsuki. )

You can also note that Katsuki holds onto his losses, which to him others beating him is also a perceived point of disrespect ( especially from those he considers lower than him like Izuku ) and agonizes over them to the point of sheer rage. It's a form of anxiety to work oneself up to a point of emotional turmoil over losing. Of course people will argue his pride and ego are what lead him to be so angry when he doesn't come out on top, but OCD and someone's ego are not mutually exclusive. There's something to be said about Katsuki's dissonance as outwardly he appears over confident but inwardly he's well aware of his own misgivings; albeit mostly physical rather than his emotional or personal one's in the beginning of the manga. He shuts down, he fawns, until he is once again perceiving someone as ( in this case Izuku ) as being patronizing towards him and then he immediately responds with rage because it's become a crutch for him.

PHYSICAL CONTAMINATION Far less imposing than mental contamination in Katsuki's case, but still a key point of his personality ( otherwise I doubt it'd be mentioned in the manga at all. ) He is super cleanly, and grows both angry and uncomfortable when things are messy! This is shown often during the dorming period for UA students, and it's clear that even if it can be called out as a moot point as many people are cleanly they're never so obsessed with having a clean space that they force everyone in the vicinity to begin tidying; while also taking full control of how things are done, so that he knows they're done right.

Again this can be considered a moot point, and I'd understand if this was disregarded by many! However, couple it with the remainder of symptoms I'm going to list and it's just another piece to a puzzle of the struggles Katsuki faces. Realistically, a 15 year old boy shouldn't be concerned with the cleanliness of a dorm room and yet here we are. Could it be considered an attempt to humanize his character a bit? Yes, and I'm all here for it. Still proves my point a bit. OCD RAGE ATTACKS

Research has shown that about half of OCD patients receive what is called Rage Attacks or Anger Attacks. They're specified as being triggered by their frustrations over their inability to control their obsessions and compulsions, or through interruptions in their compulsive rituals. This might not remind you of Katsuki initially, but consider these facts carefully; Katsuki is a control freak. Often if things do not go his way he loses his damn mind, and again that can be chalked up to his ego, pride, whatever but when it comes down to it his rage is so out of place and intense that everyone mentions it on a regular basis . . . which only triggers him into an ever deeper rage because he realizes he cannot control said outbursts. Katsuki has an compulsive obsession with becoming the number one hero, it's all he ever talks about to the point of pushing away friends, family, and even his own mentors later in the manga. Whenever this obsession becomes seemingly threatened or unattainable, he is overcome with rage as a response. Often this is due to Izuku constantly challenging him, but later we can also see it with anyone who might be better than him and threatens that compulsion, that need to be the best. Also consider how angry he becomes if he feels he didn't fairly win something, for example his one on one with Todoroki that left Katsuki pissed to the point of needing to be restrained.

In a fight when he cannot control an outcome, he cannot be expected to win or win the way he wants and therefore this throws a wrench in his compulsion to be the best and thus triggers a rage attack. Regularly, when people say rude things or disrespect him or mock him it's not something he can stop or control ( the way they think of him, the violence he is compelled to commit etc.. ) and therefore it triggers a rage attack. It's all about control for him, just like it's all about control for those with OCD who struggle with compulsions and their inability to control those around them or themselves from doing something they may regret. INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS ( VIOLENT STREAM ) Intrusive thoughts are characterized as having repetitive thoughts. Everyone experiences them, though people with OCD are known to experience disturbing and graphic intrusive thoughts that set them apart from the general public. Often they are violent compulsions, even if they have no intentions of following through. It's clear Katsuki has a violent streak, but it's also clear he can hold himself back when he needs to . . . unless he's triggered into acting out his intrusive and violent thoughts. He's often made fun of by readers / viewers for constantly using the catchphrase die during battle with friends; it's obvious he's thinking of killing or maiming in his mind but outwardly he has enough control to not act out on those thoughts. We also can't forgot the infamous line of his: telling Izuku to take a swan dive off the roof is very clearly a point in Katsuki's life where he was at his lowest mentally based solely on his obvious insecurities. His intrusive thoughts commonly turn to violence, because it compliments his rage and is easier than sorting through all the other emotions. It makes sense something so cruel would crop up in his mind, and his decision to say it despite knowing it isn't socially acceptable is the exact reason I theorize his OCD controls him far more than he controls it in his younger years. He's compelled to say nasty out of pocket shit and he just does. But, as expected, when he is a bit older controlling his words is easier and he's far less inclined to say something totally out of line. Because now he knows it's unacceptable and with age comes a self recognition that helps people with OCD understands their thoughts are not who they really are. Which I could go on a spiel about why that is important to Katsuki's character, as he's always being likened to a villain despite his hard as steel moral compass but that's besides the point.

AVOIDANCE

My closing point is probably my strongest, because If I said Bakugo is really damn good at running away from his emotions everyone would hard agree with me. Avoidance is one of the key symptoms of OCD aside from Intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviour; it's when an individual specifically avoids their triggers and when they're faced with it, they either fawn or like Katsuki they rage. Perhaps Katsuki chalks it up to just hating Izuku, but realistically the guy is a trigger for him ( from no fault of his own of course ) due to his own insecurities and inability to reconcile with the fact that Izuku is not trying to destroy him / disrespect him. As a result, he's keen to avoid him as much as possible. So of course he's going to be pissed when he realizes someone he thought was quirkless shows up at the school he's dreamed of going to since he was young, though it isn't exactly reasonable nothing about experiencing trigger avoidance or rage attacks is. This doesn't excuse Katsuki's bullshit, it never will and thankfully canonically he realizes that but his need to isolate himself from others to avoid being triggered is so obvious to me in the way he refuses to make close and meaningful connections. Because despite the fandom outlook, if we're being fair, Katsuki really isn't close to anyone in class 1-A. Not until much later in the manga, as he grows and matures. It's a constant cycle: Izuku chases, and Katsuki avoids.

Another side point that isn't exactly a symptom of OCD but is something I, as someone who does struggle with OCD, can relate to is that Katsuki mentions in the manga that he always felt miles behind Izuku. Clearly he didn't mean in power because he was originally quirkless, but he means emotionally. Katsuki was always the bully, he always saw his own faults and masqueraded them with a false sense of confidence. There's a self hatred that comes with being the only one to know your own shitty thoughts and behaviors, while also not understanding them or being able to control them. Couple that with a hefty sense of pride after spending your entire childhood being told you were born to be something special like Katsuki was . . . and you end up with someone who is dangerously unbalanced. When you struggle with OCD, you always feel one step behind your peers who don't. It's a truth that's hard to come to terms with, and it hurt me to hear Katsuki say those words to Izuku and not really know the weight behind what he's admitting. It's a step in the right direction, but it's also a confession of years of turmoil and pain mistaken for brashness and over confidence. It will never excuse what he's done and who he's hurt, but I understand him. Thank you for reading!
