Since it's pride month I would like to remind everyone that there's nothing wrong with the new/ocean/"toothpaste" gay man pride flag! The common allegations against it (that the creator is racist or lesbophobic or transphobic, etc) are not true and you can find them being debunked at @gayflagblog, or their twitter, or this thread.

"But isn't the rainbow flag the gay pride flag?" Well, the rainbow flag has been used by the entire community for decades now, if not from the beginning. Gay men deserve to have their specific flag too, and other queer people deserve to use the rainbow alongside their own specific flags without it being considered only for gay men.

"But I'm gay and I don't like the colors" That's fine, you can just not use it and respect the people who do.

"But it was created on tumblr, it doesn't have any historical meaning" Many pride flags were created on the internet, the current sunset lesbian flag was even created on tumblr too! (not a dig at it).

It's so wild to me that as a community we're still so hostile to multigender and genderfluid people existing in gay and lesbian spaces.

You...are aware that people who are both men and women are allowed to be gay, right? And lesbian? Their other genders doesn't cancel their connection to womanhood, or manhood, or whatever else they id with. They are allowed to be gay despite their fem-alignment, and they are allowed to be lesbian despite their masc-alignment.

It comes from these weird online spaces that the standard to be gay or lesbian is to be a "non-woman" or a "non-man," which is inherently transmultiphobic and...extremely ahistorical. And completely misunderstands nonbinary identity. So if you're both then you just don't belong anywhere I suppose.

I made a gif showing the difference between the old Gay man flag VS the current one by @gayflagblog, since some people find it hard to differentiate them, and the older one was created by someone who has alledgedly done/said a lot of problematic things.

As you can see, the stripes in the new one are actually different, and not just "a brighter version" of the old ones as some people claim. After you pay enough attention to at least one of them, it becomes easier to distinguish between the two, personally I can know immediately which one it is whenever I see one of them being used!
