The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology
Eros (Ερως) was the god of erotic love in Greek mythology. He was also a minion and constant companion of the goddess Aphrodite (goddess of love). His role in myths is mostly complementary; he often appeared in the presence of Aphrodite and the other love gods and often acted as a catalyst for people to fall in love, but had little unique mythology of his own; the most major exception to that being the myth of Eros and Psyche (goddess of the soul), the story of how he met and fell in love with his wife. Aphrodite was jealous of Psyche and her beauty, as men were leaving her altars barren to worship a mere human woman instead. So she commanded Eros, to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest creature on earth. But instead, he fell in love with her and spirited her away to his home. Their fragile peace was soon ruined by a visit from Psyche's jealous sisters, who caused her to betray the trust of her husband. Wounded, Eros left his wife, and Psyche wandered the Earth, looking for her lost love. Eventually, she approached Aphrodite and asked for her help. Aphrodite imposed a series of difficult tasks on Psyche, which she was able to achieve by means of supernatural assistance. After successfully completing these tasks, Aphrodite relented and Psyche became immortal and lived alongside Eros. Together they had a daughter named Hedone (goddess of pleasure).

"The God of love is kneeling at our feet.
Though we betray Him, though it is the night.
He meets us here and loves us into light."

"If God is love, and if God is also omnipresent, then the Devil cannot exist.
If the Devil exists, God cannot be love and also be omnipresent. Yet, an omnipresent god of love and the Devil are both said to exist.
It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that there is something wrong here!"
The best way to convince people your god is fake is for you to describe him.

Mythologic Geekery: Eros
Tumblr media
Okay, so let me talk about the last god that shows up in Stray Gods. Eros. And talk about his background. Or... Well, what we have in terms of that.
Because here is the thing: Yeah, we do not know where he comes from. Basically, mythologies stemming from the Proto-Indo-European stuff, feature a lot of goddesses of love and sex, but... yeah, not a lot of gods. Male personifications of sex and lust usually tend to be characterized in a negative way when it comes to Indo-European comparative stuff.
Now, don't get me wrong: Eros, like most of the Greek Gods, got defanged during the medieval period and the early, when they kinda got included in literature and theatre. So, yes, Eros always had this lust aspect to him. Still, he is not as negatively framed as Asmondeus for example.
What makes him unique, really, is that he definitely has the love and sensuality aspect of sex in there. More passion, than just lust.
Okay, next thing about him: While he does seem to originate with the Hellenistic stuff, but in the earliest phase of it. Before Olympus was a thing yet, Eros was already there. Now, he does not go as far back as Pan (and Hermes), because he originates with Hellenistic Greece. But in the oldest stuff that we have written down, he is actually not a son to Aphrodite (obviously, given Aphrodite came to Greece much later), but he is one of the Primordials.
If you have played Hades, you probably know at least a bit about the Primordials. They were not the Titans, but primordial forces of the world. That is Chaos, Gaia (Earth), Tartarus (the abyss), Eros (desire) and Nyx (the night/darkness). Note that in some versions Eros is there from the beginning, in some other versions he is the son of Nyx. Nyx gives brith to a pleathora of other primordial forces, that are not yet gods or titans. Like Aether (Light), Dolos (Pain) and Thanatos (Death).
And those are quite interesting in some regard, because they are a very unique to the Greek mythology. Even within other Indo-European mythologies, we do not have these primordials as this first thing that comes to the world. Usually... it is more orderly.
So, there might be a chance, that this is something left over from the people living in Greece prior to contact with the Indo-European mythology.

The Evermore Grimoire: Roman Mythology
Cupid (Cupīdō, meaning ‘passionate desire’) is the god of erotic love, desire, attraction and affection in Roman mythology. He was either depicted as a handsome and a slender winged pre-teen youth or as a chubby winged baby. Just like his Greek counterpart Eros, his bow and arrow, is the source of his powers: a person or even a deity who was shot by Cupid's arrow would be filled with an uncontrollable desire and passion for the first person they saw. In contemporary popular culture, Cupid is shown drawing his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day.

I made a Cupid revisitaton as an OC :)
This is only the first desing,I migth add something in the future
ASKS ABOUT THEM ARE VERY WELCOME!!!!
Ramble under the cut 👇
They're two beings in one but they're the divine rapresentesion of soulmates so they have some sort of shared mind and never are in disaccord and always know what the other thinks
Basically they're somewhat bird antrophomorphic becouse of the world "lovebirds" and becouse borsa are known tò have complicated and very romantic couple rituals
They're able tò physically separate but they dont often as without the other they're imperfect, since they will have two arms on only one side of the torso each and only one leg each
This is inspired by a greek legend where humans where initially beings with four legs four arms and two heads but the gods separated them becouse they feared them, resulting in humans spending they're lifetime tò find they're other half
But since they're the divine rapresentesion of love, they cant live far from one another and function like humans do
One head is sad and it rapresentes the delusion and toxicity love can have, while the happy one rapresent the happines that comes from it
They manipulated the other gods in falling in love with eachother so they would beg for they're advice and archieve control, but the other gods acknowleged and broke they're Cupid bow
The fact that the bow is broken is the reason mist of the people cant find their soulmate and often end up in toxic relationships, since cupid can no more guide them

God's Love & Justice Because nothing says just and loving like sending babies straight to Heaven, after mercilessly butchering them and their mothers, and letting their virgin sisters live, so they could be 'married' by their killers.
Numbers: 31:1-18
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people. And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian. Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war. So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand. And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho. And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp. And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle. And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
