like really and truly a shot to my heart, the agony of the trauma of youth and looking back as an adult and understanding your childhood self on the basis that you hated the bits of yourself that your parents and grandparents gave you of themselves and you did this for so many reasons: for acceptance from others, for rejection of your family, for fear of being cast out by accepting those parts, that perhaps your individuality was compromised, perhaps your only value was in those bits in the first place rather than parts of the people that loved you that deserved embrace. and that now, as an adult, you regret ever having felt that way, you wonder if it’s too late to express how thankful you are to have those parts, to carry them with you, to have them engraved in your being. it fucking hurts, man. to be so proud of something you once viewed with such disdain, and wondering if there’s ever a way to go back and attempt to let your family know it means so much to you, to erase all the shame attached to your youth and return that love and hope it means the same as it could have back then.

what made you ship it: the twisted princess & knight dynamic that shone through when alicent stopped cole from killing himself. he was at his lowest & here she comes as this "saviour" but it's so warped & twisted & they end up in this heady mix of devotion & hatred to this one woman they could never have / felt entitled to.

what are your favorite things about the ship: the aformentioned trope between them is absolutely the selling point for me but the reigning toxicity, the fact that they absolutely imagine rhaenyra as the other if they ever do anything, this insane obsession yet derision permeating their relationship & that alicent finds herself controlling the "father" she could not with otto.

is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship: idk if this is actually unpopular but i don't think alicent was angry because rhaenyra slept with cole because she loved him. it seems like too much of an easy cop-out imo.

why don't you ship it: honestly i thought i would've, especially considering the toxic dynamic that i love about alicole but i think that's what's missing about larycent. there's no back & forth, no mutual toxicity or tearing each other down, it's just larycent making her into his dog & she's already had enough of that. if i wanted to see that id've just shipped alicent with her father lmao.

what would have made you like it: absolutely if there was more of that back & forth, which we may get in s2 but with the way the show is determined to make alicent the perpetual victim of the men around her, i doubt it.

despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it: the scene of larys confessing what he'd done & very implicitly telling alicent that she was now under his thumb too was very well shot & acted.

what made you ship it: the scene where alicent is panicking that the green council will find aegon before she can & she stresses to aemond that it's paramount he be returned to family first, drawing that line between herself & her kids / her father & the green council. the way aemond doesn't even hesitate to alleviate his mother's troubles as a dutiful son like look at the way she clings to him.

what are your favorite things about the ship: i always love a son devoted to his mother, especially with the type of fucked up dynamic alicent & aemond have in replicating that aemond is only valuable when he's of worth to alicent as the dutiful son, the emotional provider, her therapist, son, husband & all of the above.

is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship: the boymom trope they try to push onto alicent: ignoring that for a lot of their interactions alicent struggles with these children. aemond's whole issue with being dragonless & her insisting it's just something ridiculous shows how much she dislikes her children being targaryen, alicent's dynamic is all about reaffirming that these children are hers & she loves / hates it in equal measure. the "boymom" alicent thing completely messes with that & simplifies their very complex dynamic.

Reyna (Just Reyna) is the unwanted, and unexpected, daughter of two avatar drivers.

You see the long-running assumption was that due to the mix of human and na'vi DNA used to create an Avatar meant that they were sterile (like a mule), this assumption was proven wrong by not only Neteyam's and Kiri's birth, but Reyna's as well.

Unfortunately for Reyna, she was not wanted. Her 'parents' didn't see her as their daughter, as she was born from their avatars, and the Omatikaya did not view her as na'vi, despite having raised her during her first years of life, often calling her a 'Soulless Child' or 'False Born'.

Reyna had nothing, she was nothing; she was not Omatikaya, not na'vi, and she was not wanted. She had Spider, her brother, and once she had had Neteyam, but he too began to view her as the Omatikaya did.

The pressure of being the eldest son of Toruk Makto and the Olo'eyktan made Neteyam push her away, and he said things he didn't mean and could not fix. The damage was done. When Neteyam saw Reyna next, two weeks later, she had stripped herself of anything Omatikayan. Her braids were removed, and her hair cut to her jaw, choppy and messy, and she wore only clothing from the Avatar program now.

She had gone as far as throwing away her songcord, the one she had secretly made with help from Neteyam.

As a result Reyna struggles with her identity, and has a lot of built-up anger and resentment.

When she gets kidnapped with Spider, things get interesting.

Other little facts about Reyna;

~ Due to having a higher about of 'demon blood' Reyna can eat both human and na'vi food without issue.

~ Reyna can also breathe human air for far longer than other na'vi. She can go an hour before she needs to breathe Pandoran air.

It’s so tragic that despite being tall and blue, Reyna never truly got accepted. I bet that would make her, Spider and Kiri the ✨ultimate trio✨ of fundamentally different kids who are low-key avoided because they’re quirky like that 🥴 (we COULD add Lo’ak but him being "not like the others" is more of an emotional complex rather than a fundamental physical difference)

I also like the part about Neteyam being mean because the Omatekaya and his doormat of a father condition him to view avatars as less (even though it’s hypocritical). Because sadly, things like that happen a lot. Kids will often turn cold or mean purely because they feel like they have to since adults know better, and they got no other example for a different type of behaviour, but I’m happy that he seems to regret it. It’s going that Teyam grows as a person and is gaining ability to think on his own.

I feel like, after years of neglect and being outright rejected by her bestie Neteyam, she could perhaps sort of relate to the recoms who, just like her are are neither really human OR Na’vi? Idk idk it’s just my speculation.

It’s an amazingly tragic idea 🥺✨❤️

ah, yes, the reverse side of alchemy. like the course of life, a beginning always comes with an end. but if you're capable, what is stopping you from adding another beginning to that end?

personally, i think albedo wouldn't let himself give in so easily to the thought of dwelling into that part of alchemy to simply bring you back. a thought whispers, "it'd be worth it, you'd be here by his side." — but why does he hesitate? perhaps, albedo is reminded of his own master, rhinedottir and the abyssal monsters that came to be from her creations (even him).

after all, from past observations, it seems the abyss is naturally attracted to the ambition in one's heart (similarly to rhinedottir with her passion for alchemy and tartaglia when he fell into the abyss as a young kid); albedo is one of the, if not, the closest person acquainted with alchemy on the whole of teyvat next to his master. but this doesn't mean he is immune to the abyss; no, far from it, he has always been at risk and your existence is— was, the last thread holding him back.

but now, you're gone and albedo feels himself falling through an endless space. if he gives in and manages to bring you back, would he have been corrupted by the abyss by then?

but for now, the chief alchemist has some self-control. unless he lets his emotions take him too far... he will continue to drift in the fall, mourning the loss of you. or will he risk everything? only time will tell.

Okay, this is the continuation of my last post. 

I know many people believe that the addition of the boys this season ruined the show BUT I think it was necessary to move the plot forward and to add solid reasoning to the Dawn of Eden experiment. So, here are my pointless thoughts on the boys: 

THE BOYS

1. To begin, one character that I wanted to know more about was Bo. I didn’t love Scotty; he just fell flat for me. But with Bo, he has this inherit goodness in him that was wasted this season. I felt that although he wasn’t the most present character he was needed in a way. It kinda upset me that his home life was implied but it wasn’t explored, same thing with Scotty. Everything was mentioned indirectly. I think Bo breaking away from the clean confines of his home is such an interesting arc especially when he would fall back on old habits. He was so attached to Scotty that we didn’t see him interact enough with other character. Unlike Marty and Toni in season 1, they didn’t branch out which I think was purposeful to show how the boys were already failing at building genuine community. 

2. Raf’s character really disappointed me. I could see that they were building him to be a parallel to Leah but they dropped that with S*th’s arc. You could see that Raf is a good kid with severe codependency issues. He even mentioned it himself. It was shown again with his inability to fully believe Josh because he had found so much comfort and security in S*th. I think it ties back to his lack of confidence in his own identity and life. As a immigrant, I can see where he comes from because it was easy to stick to someone who represented what you wanted to be and emulate them. Raf got confidence from S*th. Although I strongly disliked him most season, he came to his senses towards the end by beating the shit out S*th, like he deserved. I hope to see some character development for him. (He was def fruity for S*th)

3. Henry! Okay, so I know his character is not explored too much, but I love him. Maybe it’s just because he’s emo but we will ignore and focus on more developed analysis. His character works in tandem with S*th and serves to develop S*th’s disgusting behavior. When S*th tried to drown Henry, Henry quickly accepted S*th’s reasoning and even apologized himself, which leads me to believe that Henry was accustomed to this manipulation at home. The extremity of the situation was new but the attitude wasn’t. Henry shows quiet resistance in my opinion, and he also helps the group survive even if his rhetoric is bleak. When he finally snapped and realized S*th’s true colors, he was extremely disheartened, not only because his stepbrother was a monster, but because all his mother’s attention had gone to such an underserving person. Both of them has mommy issues that have manifested in different ways. I just want to see more of my emo boy.

4. Ivan. Ivan. Ivan. I have a lot of mixed opinions about him. I think we got the most fleshed out backstory for him, which is important because it helps shine a light on his behaviors. First, I understand where all his anger comes from and his story is one common nowadays. I think its important to focus on the fact that he tends to see everyone as an enemy. He set up his emotional boundaries without seeing his surroundings and analyzing the situation properly (the scandal with Kirin). Yet, we can see him trying to change that behavior when he goes over to S*th’s camp. He tries to do the right thing by not letting an abuser and co. die. I understand where he comes from but I think he’s also being selfish. He doesn’t want to carry the guilt of S*th’s death, like how he carries the guilt of Kirin’s expulsion. The dollar bill is an important manifestation of this because it reminds him to “be tender” instead of on guard all the time. Ivan is definitely one of the most complex characters of the bunch and idk I have high hopes for him, even if I don’t agree with many of his actions. 

5. Now, to the nitty and gritty. S*th is a truly disgusting character with severe issues that manifest in physical and sexual violence. I went in expecting him to be a good, stable character but after seeing him interact with everyone, I knew something was off about him. He is extremely skilled at manipulating people and getting what he needs from them, which makes him an interesting villian. Also, his character brings a dynamic that wasn’t explored with the girls: the evil within the group. The girls all have flaws but they all come together and never do anything truly malicious against each other. Yet, S*th violated Josh and then, manipulated the group to discredit anything Josh would say. He picked Josh because he appeared to be the weakest of the group and was there. S*th was a manifestation of all of Josh’s worries because all he wanted was to be accepted and even that was used as a weapon against him. Another thing that I’m wondering is if S*th was picked as the operative on purpose. The lady (i forget her name bc i hate her) knew his issues and still picked him. Did she sabotage that group on purpose to prove herself to be right? It would be an interesting twist. I hope S*th dies, truly. I was screaming at the screen. 

6. KIRIN! wow. Way to subvert stereotypes. I think he was the most effective character out of all of them. He gets to the island and all his actions prove that he’s an asshole and that he fits into the mold of idiot jock. That’s all reinforced with the clap and how he steals instead of asks because he is embarrassed. I was ready to despise him until the scene with Josh. I love that once Josh had that visceral reaction at S*th’s statements, Kirin immediately asks Josh what S*th did instead of dismissing his anger. Kirin has no hesitation in believing Josh even when Josh is so unsure about the validity of his claims. He actually hears and sees Josh instead of pushing his worries to the side like everyone else does. His violent outburst towards S*th just proves his disgust towards that abuser. He becomes Josh’s number 1 supporter even when others are hesitant. His personality doesn’t lose intensity, though, and because of this, I think we see him trying to stay strong for Josh, who begins to emulate Kirin. Josh is not weak and does not want to be seen as weak, and he thinks the one way to do this is to become “strong” like Kirin. Towards the end, Kirin shuts down when S*th is exiled the second time. That moment of weakness is crucial to show that he is actually really emotional and that macho personality is a front for a plethora of emotional trauma. It’s all seen in the flashback when Ivan taunted Kirin. They were both wrong in that scenario. Yet, it showcased how Kirin doesn’t have a stable home life and relies on others, like his coach and Josh, to be seen and needed. 

7. One last thing... I think that they are building Kirin and Ivan to have a romantic subplot. I see it. An enemies to lovers thing. Their goodbye was tender, don’t lie to me. WE WILL SEE. 

Well, I think the boys weren’t as effective as the girls because most of them lacked story and development. There needed to be more time allotted to explaining their characters more and there wasn’t enough screen time for them to build real on camera chemistry. I understand that if more time was given, the girls would be even more underrepresented but maybe (don’t hate me), this season could’ve solely focused on the boys and they could’ve released another season finishing the girls island plot to transition to the mixed season. THE ONE THING I NEED FOR SEASON 3 IS NO LOVE TRIANGLES. The boys better not ruin the bonds the girls have made. They should all just be gay. Problem solved!

On some Japanese social issues I had learned about at uni and abroad):

Legit had an epiphany about the true hidden meaning of the last arc of Mob Psycho 100. It’s hella projection but for real there is nothing neurotypical about Mob or Mob Psycho. I do not wish to enforce my interpretation on others (ironic bc I do that all the time but this is a serious social theory). There are some interesting and very sad social issues in Japan that the west really doesn’t understand but would I think help people understand a lot of context behind not only Mob Psycho, but also a lot of other anime. I learned this at my shitty university (prestigious but horrific) and while studying abroad in Japan and talking with Japanese peers. Get ready here we go (and tw for bullying and darker things):

Unfortunately in East Asian education systems, bullying can be extremely intense. Growing up I assumed it was over exaggerated extremely in anime for drama but it really can be so horrific. From what I’ve heard, there is often a single kid or so who is just shit on by everyone else, even the teacher. Mogami land *is* the reality of some Japanese kids. I’ve read that in Korea, this social punching bag sometimes is just the darkest skinned person (yayyy colorism /angry) and or someone who does not fit in. I mean, we have that in America too, but maybe not as common for the bullying to be as focused on one misfit rather than several. These kids just can’t escape the stigma too, kids from other schools find out they were a major victim at their old school and it starts anew. Thus there is so much stigma and incentive to join in on bullying so you aren’t the one. Sadly, this also ofc leads to higher suicide rates. That’s where the “shoe on building roof” anime trope comes in, bc somehow taking off shoes is relayed to death (I forgot why sorry)

There is a difference in how intense in general high school vs college is too. In the West, commonly college is the more intense curriculum and is harder than high school, but in Japan it’s usually the opposite. Grind suuuupppeeerrrr hard for entrance exams (huge standardized tests that determines what college you can qualify to) bc unlike the ACT or SAT here, that test is by far the most important factor for college admission. Then chill and relax a bit in college. Can’t relate. Name and prestige is very critical for job application, more important than here. That’s why planning out your future is sooo much more intense for Japanese high schoolers than in America, and why there is sooo much more pressure to excel in high school than here. Japanese school years and holidays are done different than ours, I’d suggest looking it up.

Social prestige of going to an American high school or college is nuts. Like whyyy do you value our shitty education, Japan’s is much higher quality (it’s bc we neo colonized them). Being able to speak English is very, very highly valued and any association with Americans make you cooler. From my experience, some Japanese students got very excited to practice speaking English with us, and their biggest issues with learning it is pronunciation, lmao. Wasai english is unique slang that is indeed English words but it’s kinda different and it’s kinda jarring to remember lol. So, Teru having parents that are working overseas isn’t too uncommon, idk about leaving him absolutely alone, but I did have a ex-friend who just came from Japan in middle school who’s situation probably wasn’t too far off from that. Empty wealth with no love, it’s no wonder those kind of people can end up being huge bullies (minori?)

I did a presentation on 引きこもり(hikikomori) for which means “shut in”, (like Serizawa) and it’s fucked up. It’s a social phenomena where according to some Japanese researchers a mix of undisciplined parenting, guilt/not living up to expectations, and hopelessness makes an alarming amount of youth/ young adults literally never go out side their house/room. Often a parent is “enabling” the behavior by supporting them, but idk the articles seemed a bit victim-blaming to me when I read it, but I don’t think I should make a judgement too hard, not my place. I will say I do suspect and believe I read something to support that ASD might play a role in hikikomoris (there is pitiful resources for autistic people in Asia, much much less support than even here, to the point I don’t think most know it exists). Like come on, with the other points I laid out my personal opinion as an Asian American with autism is that it really seems it’s unknowing ableism against autistic classmates, but I didn’t grow up in Asia so I don’t want to say.

Mental health in general is tragically quite abysmal in Japan, and with it being so hyper competitive and brutal work culture, it’s no surprise birth rate in Japan is so low; some Japanese young adults say it seems unethical to bring a life to such hostile world. Suicide rate is of the highest in the world. It’s fucked, I’ve interacted with some of the locals in Tokyo and they were so nice, but the business men just looked dead inside, it’s so sad.

Relationships between child and parent is also strained bc of this intense work and school culture. Quality time is too scarce when you gotta work so much. And the pressure from parents to do well in education or else you might end up socially stigmatized is rough. Bc your job is who you are, it’s hyper capitalism (thanks us for making them do this)

With autism being so unknown, support for parents in raising autistic kids is almost nonexistent. What happens if the “darker” side of ASD shows up in kids? I used to be a menace when I had meltdowns, I felt so bad but really just became so indiscriminately violent. See where this is going? Legit, I think ESP is a sort of metaphor for neurodivergance to ONE. There is so much stigma around it, and even less way for kids to understand why they are different than the others. My Korean family can’t admit we all got ASD, too much fear and internalized shame.

I got finally diagnosed with ASD as an adult and I’ll tell ya, I relate too much to Mob hurting Ritsu. I felt so bad, but also not in control, I knew what I was doing but not how to stop. Luckily, is was blessed in that my hyperfixations involved science and logic, so I did well at school. Sadly, our boy Mob just don’t got the passion or ability to do well at school. His kanji is very bad, even to point of not being confident he wrote a kanji (世) they learn when they are 9, in elementary school (thanks @katyatalks). Him being a bit berated by his parents for having bad grades and bending spoons seems harsh to Westerners I think, but IMO it’s pretty tame from what I’ve seen of some Asian parents (I get to say that lmao). Ofc, however the shaming is very real and Mob just agreeing with them about how weird and stupid he thinks he is so sad. There is even more pressure for the eldest to be better than here, I feel from some interactions. Nonetheless, it’s implied Mob is quite emotionally detached from his parents, even though he loves them, which also adds to his emotional complex. Combined with originally fragile self esteem and feelings of worthlessness, we got one emotionally stunted boy. However, contrary to common belief people with ASD are sometimes hyper empathic and experience emotions very intensely. We are prone to having “meltdowns” which if not assisted with can be quite violent if very intense. For me, my worse meltdowns as a kid came from when I didn’t understand why I wasn’t getting what I wanted, it seemed selfish and cruel of me but I couldn’t control it. I wanted to be a good kid, so why did hit my moms leg at target when she refused to buy me Pokémon toys? I couldn’t come up with a good reason for why my mind just commanded my body to do bad things, just a single thought was controlling me, I want I want I want I want I want ____. Which I argue could be what ???% represents… bc well…. Yeah….. hmm….. not in control of self (mob unconscious), selfish (not actually, I’ve forgave myself but my “normal” kid self was so ashamed), destructive, hurt family, wanting to stop but can’t, that’s kind of…. Too relatable.

But legit, since realizing my new HC, I’ve started to think of the last chapter of mp100 when I “explode” and it helps me feel better and I do gain “control” a bit easier. I don’t feel so bad anymore either, Mob!

I've done two different group energy readings for Stray Kids and there is a noticeable change between them, but, for example, before the first group reading for them I posted, I had done the reading a couple of times before that and got a lot of negativity which didn't really change that much between those first couple of readings.

It's good to keep in mind that with group energy readings, I look at what the individuals project into the group, which is sometimes a lot different from the general energetic projection of the individuals separate from the group. I then look at how those projections mix together, how they interact with each other, which can vary between conscious level interaction and energetic interaction. Then, after all that, I look at the overall projection, the general ~vibe~ of the group as a whole, how they function as a unit, what they are able to produce physically or energetically through the group projection. It can be quite complex and fluid, but there are many factors to take into consideration, so just because some things seem different doesn't always mean that things have changed in terms of their energetic balance and connection.

Of course, major changes in career or how things are done superficially in relation to their work and routine, as well as any dynamic changes with members leaving or even changes in contracts, can alter the energetic projection of the individuals and change up the overall balance of the group. So, for sure, in the future, I'll probably look into them again if there's a demand for it, but yeah, they do need some time to settle into new things before anything would come up as being different.

A: Yeah, the reading was a bit of a bummer toward the end, but overall things were relatively balanced for them as individuals on a more personal level. However, I do think we're seeing a lot of that general tension now with how a lot of fans are responding to the new music, specifically their last three releases. I'm sure that's stirring up some debate and conversation behind the scenes both with the group and the company overall. So, it seems like one of those things where work-life can be a bit stressful going forward, but personal work and personal life for them can be relatively smooth and enjoyable, which can be more rewarding in the long run.

A: Yes, things are definitely more equal now. There's a very interesting progression for them that plays out energetically and even as deeply as on a soul level, lining up with their personal development and separation from the Soul Body. Of course, with Jimin being older and having had known Kook for so long, I have no doubt that no matter what, some part of him would always feel protective of Kook, the only difference is that Kook is in a headspace now where he can be protective back, be more of an equal support for Jimin right back. And, I agree, behind the scenes when they're not performing and not "in character," they can definitely display more of that equalizing push and pull, more so reflecting their energetic connection on a conscious and physical level, which tends to show a very strong soul bond that is being supported on both sides.

I know this was a quick scene but what did you think of the scene where Carlos was upset about forgetting the limes when his parents came over? I saw it as genuine ‘you’ve got to be kidding me- I expected this night to go smoothly and for us to have everything we need’ but also a bit of anxiety in his voice, too. As someone who has anxiety I think Carlos displays anxiety symptoms sometimes. He has nervous fidgets in his hands and body and also his tone changes. I feel like he was frustrated but also maybe nervous/anxious because he wanted the night to just go smoothly. And TK’s response being so chill was simply him (TK) trying to tell Carlos that it’s ok I’m here for you and there’s no need to worry I got your back and then called his dad , who felt that instead of showing up for his son at this important event, he decided to chase something that he has no business chasing 🥲👿 it’s a damn shame how he’s literally never able to show up for TK metaphorically/emotionally and physically/literally unless TK is hurt. But anyway yeah that’s how I interpreted that scene. His parents don’t seem annoyed that there’s no limes I’m sure they would have been fine with another drink or no drinks at all and they know Carlos, so they didn’t say much else that would cause him to be more frustrated or anxious. I know when I get rly anxious sometimes I have a similar tone to how Carlos was - to where it sounds tight and annoyed but it’s just because I’m so anxious and I don’t know how to express and deal with my emotions. Maybe I’m reaching idk but I feel like that scene with Carlos was a mix of genuine annoyance/frustration at not being prepared with everything his parents could want when they came over but also anxiety that the night wouldn’t go as smoothly as he (and TK) wanted . I also think TK can be anxious at times and maybe have anxiety himself too so maybe that’s why he was also super chill about it and sweet in reassuring Carlos. Because I see some anxiety in him too. But yeah just my opinion

Yeah, I didn’t take it as an overwhelmingly anxious scene, as in that was the overarching feeling I got watching it, but there were definite moments that caused me to sense anxiety and the lingering tension between the characters.  I do think there is some anxiety there beneath the surface and part of that nervousness is normal but I think there’s definitely some fueled by Carlos’ complex relationship with his parents. That anxiety increases as the scene goes on, and honestly, it’s a good build up to the drama that follows (even though I didn’t particularly like the drama with Owen). Carlos does get anxious from what we’ve seen (and to some extent everyone does, but you do see him getting fidgety, and his parents, his dad especially brings that out of him more, which says A LOT and it shows that his anxiety sometimes goes beyond the normal anxiety that comes from being human). But yeah, I agree with the tight tone saying a lot, and I think you’re right to say that the tone suggests both annoyance and frustration as well as that underlying anxiety that the night won’t go well! Because, ultimately, it is not the limes that Carlos is upset about. It is what those limes represent that bothers Carlos.

We’ve certainly seen Carlos’ relationship with his parents become easier, but I would guess that there is some degree of anxiety there. Years of that “silence” after he came out aren’t just going to go away, so I liked how they showed him being really vibrant with his parents and they seem really close, but there’s still a little bit of tension there in some of Carlos’ more discreet gestures. I do think Carlos was genuinely frustrated about the limes because it’s hard to make a margarita without limes! The limes are impeding on the perfect evening that Carlos has planned (and we can see several times as in the date with TK gone wrong how Carlos really fixates on the details and wants to make special occasions perfect. Also, just as TK got kidnapped, he had that perfect dinner go cold as well, so no wonder he has a little anxiety dkjsklsdj. The man works so hard to make meals and they keep going terribly! And Owen is gonna mess up this one too!) Carlos wants things to go well, and that pressure would naturally cause anxiety, and then, when the first move he makes is to get his guests drinks, and that goes wrong, it’s no wonder he feels upset!

And I think this frustration may be amplified by nerves about his parents. His dad was the one who initially suggested the margarita, while his mom went along with it. Thus, it makes me feel that maybe the real anxiety is that Carlos is afraid of disappointing his father. Not being able to give a margarita to his father in some ways could equal being a disappointment in Carlos’ anxious mind. The scene also makes it clear that what Carlos is anxious about is only in his head, as anxiety often is. His parents laugh off the forgotten limes, while TK makes that comment to express that they can deal with it and his tone is also very lighthearted.

TK surely has his own anxiety related to his dad, but I think Carlos is more generally anxious of the pair, while TK is more easy going (though, sometimes he used that easy going nature to cover up how he is really feeling, which perhaps he inherited from Owen). And I think having anxiety at least someone caused by their dads is something both TK and Carlos share, even though the way they handle that anxiety and the way it influences them is so different. And Owen is once again going to let TK (and Carlos) down with the dinner. Owen’s gotten himself into trouble, and that’s going to interfere with Tarlos’ dinner plan in the episode to come. Poor Carlos. Just let him have one peaceful dinner that doesn’t have to be anxiety filled!

So what all this is to say is that I think you make a lot of good points here, and it’s interesting to see the anxious tendencies in Carlos and see how he deals with them and what times they most show up (and I’d argue they most show up with his father, but that’s debatable). I do think he has anxiety, and I think much of that stems from a feeling of inferiority and never being able to live up to what his father wants (that line about his father thinking he was too soft to be a cop is one that highlights these insecurities well). He wants to prove himself, so he tries to make everything perfect, but when things don’t go to plan, while forgotten limes may not seem cosmically important, they sure can sour a perfect plan and trigger an anxiety spiral!

~General Analysis~Again thank you so much for your playlist! It helped me get through a lot of sleepless nights. I ship you with Jisung for this ship for a lot of reasons, as I said before your personality is so vibrant and complex. This is reflected in your playlist, there is a deep connecting theme between a lot of the songs. The rap is hard and fast (definitely not an innuendo), a lot of the themes refer to proving yourself and staying honest to those closest to you. When it gets to the more brighter songs it still refers to a deep driving passion. The relationship song I chose is an example of this.I know this song speaks on behalf of playing someone, I think this would be your song because of the mix of a strong bass and the overall chill atmosphere of the song. It also speaks of devotion and I truly think that you and Jisung would have that in common. You have a really pleasant nature about you, your excitable natures would bounce off of each other. This would work really well! Han is more of a direct person who comes across as the more dominant in a relationship, it’s not an unbearable type of dominant either. He’s just very passionate. In terms of your playlist I think it fully reflects the energy that Han has, I just see this relationship as a real driving force if that makes sense. I decided to go with the black grunge look for two main reasons 1. I know you like the e-girl vibe and this was the closest I could get while also sticking to reason 2. And reason 2 is a more personal reason for me, I don’t wanna talk too much about myself so I’ll keep it short I have Synesthesia a condition where there is an overlapping of senses. Basically from your playlist and personality I associate a grunge black,grey white combination. To me black is one of the purest colours, in terms of symbolism it’s devotion and harmony. Grey is a sleepy almost cheesy yet alluring feeling and white resembles strong integrity and expression, it’s one of the more stronger more dominating of the colours. The taste I associate with the playlist is a rich dark chocolate and raspberry fondue. This essentially represents passion and achieving prosperity through tribulation. These two things resulted in the moodboard you see below but it can also represent the inner workings of your relationship and the stand out qualities. The two of you would have a very strong and sensual relationship, it’s very clear you’re in love. If the PDA doesn’t speak for itself, the shy glances full of love speak more than words ever could. The shufflemancy song can be interpreted however you wish but I personally see it as Han pursuing you for a long time, a typical friends to lovers situation. Your love story comes across like a YA novel come to life, he would cherish you. Your relationship is essentially the emotions and feelings that you get from a late night drive where you get fast food and stargaze when you can’t sleep. Alright fuck it I figured it's time to put my nuts in the ring when it comes to writing up rwde reviews about shiddy writing.

I already made a post about how closure doesn't exist in rwby, so that SHOULD trim this a bit. Hopefully.

These last two of seasons of rwby have been ASS and idk even know where to start. So lemme do some character progressions instead of jumping all over the place. Let's start with my fav: Neo. And I'll be as unbiased as possible.

Starting from v6, she came back and teamed up with Cinder. Cool? Cool. Fair enough. V7 onwards she's been treated like a BITCH by Cinder and has visibly shown her disdain for that on screen. And yet she still chooses to hang with her? Why? Like... Genuinely why? Is Neo not like the stealth queen? And the driver of a thousand vehicles? Why does she even need Cinder? Could she not have just jacked an airship herself, flown to Atlas after getting the info from Cinder, and began her hunt there? Instead she's just some minion to her now? Okay fine so let's say their team up makes sense in some odd world. Why the fuck would Neo agree to go to Cinder in the Satan Whale? Why? Why the fuck is she there? After being denied multiple times to get to Ruby and even being treated like shit with visible disdain, she should have absolutely left with a middle finger to Cinder. But nope. We get to see her be visibly uncomfortable in this cult and clearly wants out. Which she does, so good shit. She snatches the lamp and heads out. Fair enough, I guess? I don't know why the fuck she trusts Cinder to go back to her after being treated like shit. After Cinder's doodoo attitude towards her, Neo should be like "wow maybe she's lying to me about roman lemme check with this genie bitch" but no. And don't say "oh well she can't talk so jinn wouldn't be able to answer her." Fuck that. 1. I should hope that the password wouldn't be so ableist against mute people. 2. Neo's resourceful as hell. Text to speech and boom. There ya go. Instead she goes back to Cinder like a lost puppy after being shown multiple times how much she hates her. Why the fuck does she need Cinder to get to Ruby? I have no fucking idea! And then everyone's favorite scene. I know I know she killed Blake's hip atta-- I mean character devel-- I mean Yang. That scene. Was doodoo. And I'll get into more intricacies about it much later. But for now, why the hell was Neo so sloppy in that assassination? Like gurl you revealed yourself so early from, apparently so far away? Pretend to be a passerby with everything disguised (I saw that lamp) impale her and boom. Done. Not sure why she went for a slash either when a thrusting weapons like that would be best for a quicker impale. It would have made any on screen death so much more confirmed instead of up in the air bullshit.

Next we have Ironwood. Oh James. How far you've fallen. I don't really understand what the hell they're doing with this character any more. Like... At all. I fully expect him to turn into the joker and join salem at this point lmfao. At first he was complex, but cool, right? Ok a stern leader who still wants to help people and see team rwby in beacon grow and be successful. Fair enough. Then came v4 and he was like "hey yang. Heard about the arm. Here ya go homie." That was pretty cool to give to a young veteran. Fair enough. But good god once v7 hit, everything just went haywire. He started making the dumbest decisions. Kind of. I understand how he's like "aite let's sack mantle to ensure atlas lives cause otherwise both parties will be dead." except idk why he didn't just make a plan to evacuate everyone to mantle first but whatever. I mean team rwby did it like... In a day? Shouldn't have been hard. Then he started losing his fucking mind. There was an entire thing about trust issues and plans (ngl I didn't care enough to pay much attention) and he ends up wanting to arrest the kids more than actually stopping Salem. Like homie. Why. You have a gang of strong ass hunters on your side, don't just throw that away. They could say "acab fuck the police anarchy reigns" and you should still keep them just to fight literal satan on your doorstep. But he fucking drops everything and resources and materials on arresting them. Like why???? And then he just shoots a child just because? And he goes around full fascist mode and his character is just gone at that point. He literally actively wants to kill the people of Mantle now instead of stopping Salem and I don't fucking get it. He could literally plot with salem about how to nuke mantle and I'd be like "shoulda seen it coming". And then when he gets outta jail he kills Jacques... Just cause? Like why? I understand Jacques let Salem's forces in and eventually led to this shit show, but like... Atlas was falling. Just leave. I don't understand. But I guess it's to show how hateful he is towards those who oppose him, so whatever. Idk I'm so done with him. This man is just so boring I just can't wait for him to get killed off so we can be done with him. I'm sure I missed a fuckload of intricacies about Ironwood but I really don't care at all about this schmuck.

Next on the shitlist is the entirety of team rwby. Just to compact it all into one. Ruby has been getting on my nerves SO much. She is so holier than thou and always right. If she had just openly talked with Ironwood about all these secrets and shit, none of this would be happening. Yeah there would be panic, but homie what's the alternative? Fight in secrecy against the police and Salem?

"hey Ruby I noticed that lamp you keep hanging around. What is that?"

"oh uhhhh definitely not a grimm magnet HAHAHAHAH"

Like no shit everyone's gonna be pissed when you lie to them and keep these secrets. Also these plans are dogshit. "We gotta get a message out." To who??? The rest of the world is gonna see some lil kid be like "hey Ironwood's gone crazy and some evil witch bitch is here tryna kill us all." Like who are they gonna believe? A random girl or the fact that ironwood is the head of the largest military state in the world? For all they know it's just some prank and it's totally unbelievable.

Team RWBY sippin team for v8 and doing nothing all volume? Nice. "But they needed to protect Nora." You mean to tell me Ruby, May, Blake, and Weiss all had to be there to protect someone. The Grimm attacked once and that was it. You guys have no medical history. At all. All you did was wrap her up and drink tea during the volume where there's a literal war happening outside. You don't just "wait for help" you ARE THE HELP you're hunters you fucks! Go out and get shit done. Have like one person stay behind just in case shit goes wrong. Preferably Weiss so she can have those meaningful conversations with her family members she never fucking had. But whatever. Ruby and Yang get into... A fight? That lasts for five seconds when they leave and then when they see each other again it just doesn't matter so I'm not sure why the fuck it was brought up at all. It had no impact whatsoever. And there's a ton more I'm sure I'm just burning out at this point. But let's just talk about the big shit. Yang's death. Everyone's saying she'll come back because plot armor but I'm in the "I genuinely think she's dead" group. She turned to Dust as she fell. I mean who knows maybe Deus Ex machina rears it's convenient head. I hate hate hate how that scene was done. That was such an unbelievable death. Weiss, Ruby, and even Blake all have ways of catching her. Easily. Weiss has like fifty ways of catching someone between summons and semblance. Ruby can teleport around the world. And Blake can just shadow clone jutsu her way there but WHATEVER. I guess everyone was too busy being nerfed and sucking ass. Again. And the reactions? Dog shit. Even when she sacrifices herself for Ruby, it's still all about the bees. It's so genuinely annoying. Ruby just whispers her sisters name and that's pretty much it aside from a >:( face here and there. Weiss doesn't even grieve she just comforts Blake who's losing her shit. And I don't know why Weiss doesn't grieve cause SHE WAS HER HOMIE TOO LIKE C'MON RT LET'S SEE SOME UGLY SOBBING DAMN so now everyone's gone feral (except Weiss who just doesn't give a shit about Yang apparently.) And despite Blake saying "yo let's not kill people aite Yang?" She's gonna say fuck that and have it out for Neo and Cinder out of revenge. Alright I guess. That's fair honestly. Challenging ones own morals based on emotions. Good enough. But god I just wished we could see more from Ruby and Weiss during that. Also I'm so sick of the "oh this character fell are they dead are they not?" Thing that rt keeps doing. Just have Neo impale her and go. Easy as that. On screen confirmation. I'm sure team RWBY has a fuckload more to crit but I'm done with this topic.

Winter. Bootlicking to the extreme that she casts aside her own sister and doesn't care if her friends die. Nice. No closure at all after she turns back to being a good guy I guess. I'm done with her. Not a whole lot to say.

The aceops are just so dumb. I'm done with them. Everytime they talk about genocide for the good of atlas I'm just rolling my eyes. Just say you're fascists and move on. And idk why the fuck harriet is gonna bomb an empty mantle. Atlas is already falling on it, you literally have no reason to do this. And this plot point is stupid as hell. Next.

Cinder. I'm not sure why they decided to randomly drop her background story into the mix. Like I don't think anyone gives a shit after all the crap she's done. I'm so sick of rt trying to make her some "uwu woe is me" woobie after doing so much shit and killing so many people. Her uwu crying moments are just stupid. Honestly watts is one of my fav characters just for telling her how crappy she is. Next

Hazel. Homie is dumb as hell. He hates Ozpin because his sister died in a mission. Fair enough. Why the fuck would you ever join Grimm Hitler when Grimm are what killed her in the first place??? Like??? Just hate him on your own time dude, jesus. And he is consistently hypocritical and it's so stupidly funny how bad this character is.

"HOW MANY MORE CHILDREN WILL YOU HURT OZPIN" as he beats the piss outta Nora, Ren, RWBY, Oscar, and probably some random five year old on the street while shouting OZPIIIIN to the skies. It also didn't take a whole lot to convince him how stupid he was thank god. His character was so cool in design and in theory but good god he got executed soooo fucking poorly. Kinda glad he's dead just so we don't have to deal with his stupidity. Next.

Emerald. This bitch. I can't. I LOVE how easily rwby just forgave her. It was so stupidly funny. "oh but yang was ready to fight her at first and snatched her weapons" yeah for five fucking minutes. Then came the part where she helped stabilize Penny and gave a half assed speech about switching sides. Meanwhile everyone's just magically forgiving of her like OH THAT EMERALD AHAHAH like she didn't help orchestrate the fall of Beacon, the death of many, including Penny, and all the terrible shit that's gone down. No resentment from RWBY except for my favorite line delivered this volume. It was Weiss's ever so beautiful "SHUT UP" LOL (I play Smite and I love how her VVGQ Quiet voice line sounds the same. So when I heard this line, I thought of Smite and immediately laughed. Kudos to you Weiss.)

Salem. The hound attacked Penny in the mansion... Why? You already established connection with Watts in jail. Did he not tell her "ay she cool with us." And in turn did she not tell him "ay she cool with us don't hit her"? I guess not? Cause the hound and penny shoulda bounced together the second they met up lmao. Other than that, salem's done nothing this volume except try to be scary and get her ass beat by hazel. She could easily just go out in the field with her grimm and blasts some people or SOMETHING GOD so far our main villain is just so boring and unimposing that literally every other villain, including her subordinates, feel more like threats than her.

Now I'll just talk about scenes.

The scene with ambrosius was COATED IN CONVENIENCE. Apparently Ozpin didn't tell the gang about the WinMore button they could just fucking walk to until now because??? Idk. I LOVE how team rwby just assumed that penny would be okay when they took her robot parts out. Realistically she should just be a floating husk of aura and nothingness. Like she never had organs. I don't understand how she's a real person now? Which, by the way, I'm pretty fucking insulted about how they handled that. Why make Penny human? She was already a real girl and accepted by her loved ones. Like shit, she was a character that a LOT of transgirls, myself included, could relate to on a personal level and we LOVED how Ruby handled it in v2. It was cute! It was sweet! She said she was a real girl back then and it made all of our collective kokoros go doki doki. Fun stuff!

But now? It feels like none of that was validated until she got an actual human body. Like damn I wish I could just get my ideal body within seconds. Shit. I've seen and heard a lot of upset from my fellow tgirls about how doodoo that scene was, because it's implying penny wasn't a real girl until after she got her human body and that's probably how most of the rwby fandom is gonna see it too. "oh wow penny's a real girl now!" And just forget Ruby's cute speech in v2. So annoying. Minor nitpick, if she's got the aura of a black man inside of her (her father), and her robot body is gone, why the fuck isn't she black? Like? Idk minor nitpick I guess. But anyways back to ambrosius scene. I love how rwby had the answers for everything within the hours worth of planning they were given by Ironwood's motive. Totes believable. And yet the "one way ticket to vacuo" thing was the simplest shit they could have avoided lmfao. Like THAT is what you trip up on? Not the portals you're trying to make or the assumption that penny lives without her robot parts? Insane. (side note: how did oscar have a flashback to that scene if he wasn't even there?)

And now everyone's favorite scene. Yangs death. Already covered it early I just wanted to add more on. This scene is insane. Like... If they actually go through with killing her (i don't see how she could have survived turning into dust) then roosterteeth is dumber than I gave them credit for. Like... They have to realize the shitstorm they're gonna receive right? First they kill off clover, an lgbt+ coded character. Next is Yang? A main character who is WIDELY loved by all. Apart of their most pandered ship in existence: bees. (Both the ship and the character make them so much money in merch btw so this was stupid from an objective standpoint.) You can't just kill a main character that is heavily lgbt+ coded in THE most popular ship in the show. Like... How dumb can they be? They're gonna lose so many fans at the very least. Sales? Down. Death threats? Way up. It would be astonishing if they weren't up to their necks in shit in backlash by that decision. Bury Your Gays trope strikes again folks. But this time with everyone's favorite! Like I just... Idk that decision was stupid and that scene hardly was given any real pomp or circumstance it deserved. She's a major title character and that scene lasted like a minute lmao. It's gonna be RWBY without the Y. RWB. As in rt is a bunch of rubes for making that decision. A cynical part of me thinks they did that just because they want an excuse to off Neo, another really loved character. (Well if everyone hates her now we can kill her off cause god knows we don't know what to do with her), but I'm not gonna make this about her. I honestly don't know how to feel about this death tbh. On one hand it's shitty and *points to essay above*. On another it lets Blake be her own character for once. We get to see who she is on our own. And we can finally shift gears from The Bees Show featuring Some Plot to RWBY without the Y. But again that scene was done horribly with doodoo writing already explained up above. They're gonna use this as some edgy excuse to have the heroes start killing again or grieve or whatever bullshit shock value.

(now that I think of it tho, Neo shoulda killed yang in v2. How the fuck did Raven know she was finna die again. Lmao)

I have many mixed feelings about Thor and the Marvel franchise ever since Avengers, so I will be documenting all the things that will not appear in Thor: Love and Thunder below.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, we will not get to see:

Frigga as Allmother ruling Asgard like she deserved. Thanks for burning that bridge, Marvel.

Baldr, Tyr, or Angela. They screwed up the whole “surprise children we forgot to tell you about” so introducing any of these characters now would be rather redundant.

All the glorious warrior Lesbians Thor is supposedly the patron of. Sad, I know. But maybe we’ll get to see Valkyrie with a girlfriend? Maybe we can see all the worthy female bachelorettes in Asgard competing to be Queen of New Asgard. Sif vs Amora? Lol, jk.

Thor getting the emotional healing he deserves.

Flashbacks of Loki where we get to explore the complex relationship between him and Thor.

An introduction of Karnilla Queen of the Norns, which could lead to a confrontation between Thor and the Norns or even Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, because let’s be honest. That storyline is too complicated.

A major conflict with Thor searching for a way to restore the glory of the Nine Realms vs Jane, who uses the hammer to protect Earth and the current residents of New Asgard, because again. Too complicated.

A confrontation between Thor and the Norns or TWSAIS where Thor says he’s tired of their meddling, destroys the loom and brings everyone back the correct way as fate demands. (Idk, maybe Those Who Sit Above in Shadow found out that there was more residual energy from preventing the full Ragnarok Cycle from being realized so they removed key threads in the weaving, like Baldr and Loki’s children, and now they are able to draw on some energy produced from such a massive rewrite of history? Who knows. Definitely too complicated for the MCU.)

Thor brings back all the lost Asgardians or even just Loki and we get to enjoy Loki in the form of Kid Loki or Lady Loki. Who is even that picky anymore?

Things we might get in the upcoming movie:

Sif returns from wherever the Hel she went. I think someone mentioned that she was banished, though why Loki would banish Sif and not the rest of the Warrior’s Three is beyond me. Sadly, the Three are still dead along with anyone else who ever mattered most likely. *The wiki does say that Odin banished her, but is this mentioned in the movies?

Amora and Lorelei? (No promises this will even happen. When you can go back and say, well they did it in Agents of Shield, you could probably argue that they don’t really care about consistency anymore.) *Lorelei is portrayed in the show but not Amora.

Jokes about Thor’s intelligence and worthiness as God of Thunder. Nobody respects Thor.

Thor suffering but never adequately processing the trauma he has experienced through the loss of his family and being constantly reminded of his brother being a villain and how that is reflected in his own failures.

Some conversation about why Thor and Jane broke up and why it’s Thor’s fault because of his god-sized ego, or not caring enough, or putting Asgard/Midgard/ the Avengers first because he always has to play the hero.

Hey there, anon! Okay, so... I had actually never given this topic much thought before, so after I read you ask this stuck in my head. I even re watched The Black Hound so I could remember things and answer you properly. I’m not the best at media analysis, but this is a very interesting point that you brought up so I’ll do my best to break it down so I can try to explain my mixed feelings about this subject.

(Also please forgive me but this is not at all a straight forward answer, I’ve rambled a bit so there’s even a cut😅)

First off, I think we should consider Frida’s mistakes as two separate things: one would be lashing out at Hilda and David, and the second one would be joining the Marra. It’s clear that they’re both connected and that one led to the other, but their orders of magnitude are so different that I think it wouldn’t be appropriate to consider them the same mistake.

So let’s begin by her lashing out. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that the argument scene was right after they fought a ghost. Taking that into consideration, I can understand why she lashed out. She was feeling scared after a life threatening situation, and that plus the emotional stress that she was going through, with questioning everything she’d ever thought she was, made her burst. But even though it was understandable, it wasn’t justifiable, specially since she told Hilda some things that didn’t even have to do with the ghost situation.

And stopping to think about it, it did sort of bother me that this happened, and then Hilda and David after long seemed to have forgotten it. In the Nisse episode, they’re worried about Frida missing classes and sparrow scouts meetings, and so they simply go to her house and... act completely normal. It is normal for people to be worried when they know someone they care about is going through a rough patch in life and it stops them from leaving their house. I mean, it’s a symptom of a few mental illnesses, even. But the fact that they just went to her house, no questions asked, and acted as if nothing had happened just didn’t sit well with me. Especially because it would have been a simple matter to solve. People lash out with some frequency, it’s nothing out of this world. If Frida had just apologized and explained why she had said what she did, things would have been fine, somewhat. But she didn’t really, and things only got worse.

And that takes us to the Marra issue. Not only did Frida all but discard her old friendships without amuch of a reason, she also looked for friendship somewhere else. But let’s think about it, though. Frida isn’t going to school. Frida hasn’t been leaving her house, we know this. So how could she have met Kelly? This whole situation gives me the feeling that somehow the Marra know when someone is vulnerable, and that Frida was manipulated to become Kelly’s friend.

Sounds reasonable, right?

But the thing is that Kelly isn’t just some mean girl that Frida wants to impress (probably because when you’re young you think teenagers are cool for some reason). Kelly is a marra and Frida knew that.

In the end of The Nisse, we see Frida around the campfire, feeding off of nightmares herself, and in the beginning of The Black Hound, we see Kelly throwing Frida forward saying “last to join, first to get eaten”. These two occasions make it clear that Frida didn’t only befriend her, she joined the Marra, even though it seemed like she was at some sort of apprenticeship stage still. And that’s something I can’t wrap my mind around.

This isn’t lashing out in the heat of the moment. She had time to form a “bond” with Kelly, and I’m assuming that she didn’t only learn that she was a Marra after Kelly brought her to the forest. I mean, if she’d just dragged Frida to the campfire and said “surprise, I’m a nightmare spirit and I’m recruiting you!” she’d definitely try and get away, because she’d be scared! So there was some time for her to get used to that idea, not only that Kelly was a Marra, but also that they wanted her to be one as well.

I could argue that Kelly groomed Frida to accept, and it’s a factor that we definitely should keep in mind; grooming is not something to be taken lightly. But after what we see in The Nightmare Spirit? I’m sorry to say this, but Frida should have known better. She saw those spirits torturing her best friends. She had already seen what they were. And I can’t get it in my head that she simply ignored that! That could have been some sort of revenge against them, but it wasn’t, because there seems to be no more resentment from Frida’s side after her blow up in The Ghost. So something that could easily have been vengeance (even though Hilda and David did nothing wrong) was actually just what she chose? Probably manipulated but otherwise unprompted?

And now we get to her “redemption arc”. Let’s take a look, shall we?

This scene happened right after they ran away from the hound. Frida offers to help him, and this is what she says while doing it:

“You were right, you know? About my new, so called, friends.”

This quote actually made me realize something. I could be wrong, but has Frida, at any point in the series, said that David was right? Specially while saying that she was wrong? We see her look remorseful in The Sparrow Scouts, but I don’t think we’ve ever heard her saying that she was wrong before, and I think it was probably very hard for her to say it. Next, she says:

“I’m sorry, I’ve been acting like an idiot.”

And to her credit, she really does look sorry.

For the next few minutes of this episode, there are other instances where she tries to take back what she’s said and done. When Hilda is with her by her door, she says she trusts her and comes up with a plan to help her get a badge. When she is collecting Kelly’s garage sale stuff, she tells him to keep her plushie, because “it’s never a good idea to throw away your real friends”. And while I loved those scenes (and that last one was quite the shade she threw at Kelly, ngl), I’m not at all sure that this serves as a redemption arc (amen, after eleven paragraphs I finally answered the question!)

If all of that had been said before her joining the Marra, I would have thought it perfect. Like you said, anon, she’s a kid, it’s understandable that she doesn’t have a good enough grip over her emotions not to lash out in stressful situations. But this was all done after a more complex and problematic action on her part.

So what would have been a good redemption arc? Well... I don’t think she’ll be completely redempted before she does something to earn their friendship back, instead of just saying apologizing. It would be super cool to have her actually, idk, “resist temptation” for her friends. Maybe if the marra came back and a tried to manipulate her into joining them again, and she refused, that would be a nice way to tie her redemption arc.

Since what you asked was an opinion and not an AU, let’s get back to it. I think it was really easy to have Frida just deliver a few meaningful lines and try to help Hilda earn a badge (though I think she would have done that regardless of trying to apologize, and so would any good friend) and write her off as redempted. But that really didn’t work completely, because it’s easy to be kind and nice when the problem has already passed. How will Frida react when their friendship goes through another tough situation? Will she lash out again or has she learned from her mistakes? We don’t know, because at no point was it shown that she learned.

And now we get to how I feel about it from a storytelling point of view. This redemption is what had been building up since episode 9, and since the Vittra episode we were shown that Frida needed a cold reality shower. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, but if she didn’t realize that she couldn’t be perfect, and that putting her attempts at perfection above her friends was an awful choice, she would only have problems later in life.

What I mean is, with so much build up to this arc, and so much significance to it, it’s disappointing that we had what, half an episode for it? If only the time had been taken to put Frida in a situation where she proved that what she went through made her learn, but no, they didn’t take the time. Which is a shame, because seeing Frida’s character development is always delightful to me.

Summing it up: Frida’s lashing out made sense to me and it was a somewhat easy matter to solve. However if there’s no more said about this topic in season 2, her redemption arc will have been, in my eyes, rushed and incomplete, because nothing was done to show that Frida actually learned. It’s a shame that they didn’t dedicate more time to expanding on that arc, because it was a story that was due to being developed ever since the first episodes.

I think this one should have been pretty easy to anticipate, but I absolutely adore Pansykit. I've been so closely involved in her since before she was born and watching her growth through kithood alone has been amazing. Words cannot stress enough how excited I am to watch her develop through apprenticeship and see her gentle, kind nature grow. I think the relationship she has with Tansykit is great because they both foil one another so well. Pansykit mirrors Tansykit's cold, isolationist nature while Tansykit mirrors Pansykit's caring, sweet nature. They work so well as a duo, especially so when the twin aspect is added onto them. I have so much love in my heart for Pansykit. She is so perfect and I will die for her. @leafwhisker

Flickerclaw -

Okay I'll be honest and say I haven't always been a Flickerclaw stan. It was really easy to see him as a character through the lense of Spark, and it was ironically as Spark began to let go of his anger at Raven and Maple that I began to appreciate Flicker's unique and interesting arc. Watching his fish-out-of-water narrative, seeing those emotions as Raven gravitated away from him and left him with a similar sense of loneliness that he left Aspen with? SO cool to see, and its awesome to watch how that experience allowed Flicker to realize the faults in his own actions and reach out to Spark (and hopefully lter Aspen) to apologize. I really love the way hes grown up and how he had to learn the hard way that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I can't wait to see more with him regarding Hawk and Daisy as well- that's going to be such a unique thing to see. @mintswhisker

Swallowstorm -

An answer that shocks no one- I fucking love Swallowstorm. I would jump in front of a moving train for her. I would give Swallowstorm my left kidney. I love Swallowstorm. I've always had a soft spot for nasty girl characters and Swallowstorm is the nastiest girl there is. I'm heartbroken that I joined Jagged so late just because it means I missed out on a lot of her earlier development, but seeing her through the lense of Doerunner has honestly made her character that much more charming. I think Swallow's obsession with power and control is a really unique and captivating thing- I can't really think of another character that approaches this in a way as awesome and dynamic as her. The way she would go as far as to hurt herself and others around her just to keep that reality in tact for herself, the way she isolates herself just to tell herself the lie that it has to be this way because nobody else will understand, as well as to justify the way the cats closest to her have abandoned her/betrayed her trust. Her ego is too big for her own good, and to watch her repeatedly reach her breaking point, fall deeper into that dark mindset, only to place the limits of that breaking point further is so fucking awesome. I could honestly go on for paragraphs about all the subtleties I love about Swallowstorm, shes just genuinely so well written and dynamic and three dimensional. I'll be selfish for a bit and go on about how fun its been to reach out to that cold, broken cat through Doerunner, who's also broken but just in such a fundamentally different way. Seeing this relationship between Doe and Swallow where Doe tries to find her worth in befriending cats where Swallow finds her worth in pushing them away? So fucking GOOOOD. Especially when Swallowstorm is the one cat in JaggedClan who saved Doerunner, who literally kept her from freezing to death in the snow. Idk. Idk. I'm soft.

Mousetail -

My MOM. I love miss Mouse, especially because I'm one of the people who was lucky enough to see her shift from NettleClan to JaggedClan. To watch her go from lonely, angry, and hostile to the loving, gentle, and happy cat she is in JaggedClan has been such an awesome development to watch. I like how her happiness didn't come without a price- her scene leaving Crowstar behind, the way she's confronted Lavenderstrike after the way her kits were targeted, her overall apprehensive nature regarding her new clanmates is really nice to watch, her acclimation as a JaggedClan cat is slow and methodical and I like that a lot. It feels realistic and allows for a lot more growth and potential in the future. I'm really excited for her kits to reach six moons because there's so many more confrontations to see that are going to be absolutely great. I can't wait for Duststorm and Swiftstrike to meet her again, for them to view how far she's come in six moons, for Crowstar to see the way her family has grown, for Mottlepelt and her to speak again- there's a lot for Mouse to face in the future and I cannot WAIT to see how it goes. @currentfangs

Butterfly -

Miss Butterfly.... my darling to-be. In the same way I'm soft on nasty girls, I'm also soft on characters with severe family trauma and Butterfly has that by the fucking BOATLOAD. The way she's been written through it all has been such a treat to watch, her using that obsession with the truth and being a well behaved, perfect cat to cope??? PEAK writing. I can hardly believe shes over a year old now as a character. I love the way she started fearful and anxious of the world because of how much it hurt her to a cat who, while still having some anticipation and fear, has a bit more confidence, especially through her relationship with Firefly and Spark. I just wuv her so much and I can't wait to see her function as an adult cat in the tribe! I can't wait to see her bond with her peers, meet Spark's kits, develop more with Butterfly and Fading. Shes a perfect little darling girl and I'll die for her. (Leo its not letting me tag you so I'll just DM you lol)

Aspen Snow -

Last but not least, miss Aspen. She's one of the first characters I got to develop a meaning, worthwhile relationship with. I've watched her go to an angry, spunky kid to a complex, hurt adult. She's an interesting look into a character who just can't seem to catch a break and is a great mix of a character who doesn't know how to pull herself out of her hurt. I like how over the course of time, she developed into a cat who's too closed off about her emotions while Spark became a cat who's open with his emotions to a fault. They balance one another out when they're together, but apart they both spiral out of control in opposite directions. Her complicated relationships with all her siblings really symbolizes how her horrible early on experiences leaves her inable to bond with them now in a healthy way. Her relationship with her season makes it so her emotions, so bottled up, explode in drastically unhealthy ways when they reach their boiling point and those instances only serve to haunt Aspen Snow and lead her to believe she's a worse cat than she really is. I want to see a healing arc with her SO badly man

Wtf is up with this knockoff Alfred mf with Slade? Also?? What stereotypical villain shit Slade step it up. [Titans (2018) Slade is like,,, so much better at this. Hell, even Arrow Slade is more nefarious.]

[I know it’s stupid to say this about an antagonist from a kids show vs two YA/Adult shows but like?? Titans Slade had the Motive, and Arrow Slade was Deep. In my defense here, I’m only on Ep 1, I’m sure he gets more interesting as the show progresses.

My non-sleep deprived rating? 9/10. Points off for melodrama but points on for nostalgia and attention grabbing. I’m not really into kids shows so I did my best to be fair despite that. Personally I think it’s a little much on the fighting especially for a pilot and it definitely seemed a little bit rushed. But, the animation is fun, I love the way each character is distinctive in costume and personality.

Keep in mind I prefer watching things with writing/pacing like Arrow, The Flash, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the new Titans TV show and all of my ratings are going to be skewed based on a preference for stronger and darker material. 

With that in mind, I did enjoy the episode and I do want to continue watching. I think if I had watched this as a 10-11 year old, it would’ve been amazing.]

okay let’s start with zoe because jason’s death is a traumatic thing for her on like multiple points all relating back to when she was like elementary school aged (im pretty sure i have it where she’s like 8 ish when this happens). before jason and before going into the whole vigilante business – no matter what version of zoe you prefer – she loses her two younger brothers in a joker related accident. he kills them. and zoe… zoe is so,,, well she’s angry. because no one does anything. no one. not that fabled batman, not the police, not the fucking government – NOBODY. and she’s just supposed to keep living her life like everything is fucking fine because oh that’s just the way gotham is. and like why the fuck would she just keep living her life when her barely out of toddler aged little brothers are now dead?? why wouldn’t she want to do something about that?? why the fuck should she just let it roll off her back like no biggie?? (of course, this is a catalyst for her mother’s downward spiral and eventual disappearance, and then keme’s).

then of course, there’s zoe’s powers. at that age she didn’t really understand the extent of them, what she could do with them and all that, but as they develop and her own awareness of them develop, she is faced by like intense guilt and remorse. if only she’d been able to do something. if only she’d been there. if only she could’ve stopped the joker. if only, if only, if only. and like, realistically, there wasn’t much she could do. it wasn’t like she knew fully how strong she was; she’d barely gotten flying down at that point, but then she’s growing up and she realizes she never really had a limit. and she kind of has this complex, i’ve said it before but she really does try to bear the weight of the world on her shoulders, so everything that has happened to her up until this point after the twins die, it’s partly her fault; if only she could have been better, she could have saved them, she could have her mom, she could have keme – she could have her family back.

then, of course, there is in all of this her intense hatred of the joker. and by correlation to the whole fucking issue, gotham city and batman. (ive said that they kind of grow to like each other more, but when z and jay become friends and through their teen years until his death, it’s kind of like whenever youre gay and your bff is gay and you both kind of hate the other’s really fucked up parent who’s okay sometimes but isn’t all the time and you would totally like throw down with them if only there weren’t like,,,repercussions)

anyway, so when jason dies, it’s a big fucking deal. like he’d already been acting weird, bruce was worried about him, z was worried about him, and then he dies okay. and zoe… bruce doesn’t tell zoe right away. he doesn’t tell her and when zoe does find out, she. is. pissed. all of the shit with her baby brothers comes back. she wasn’t there. she wasn’t able to save him – because she sure as hell KNOWS that she could have at this point. and now he’s GONE. AND THIS ENTIRE TIME, SHE HAD NO FUCKING CLUE BECAUSE BRUCE DIDN’T TELL HER!!! she couldn’t even go to his funeral!!! and then, AND THEN, on fucking top of that – it was the joker who killed him. so jason’s death was like a fucking quadruple blow to her.

after finding out the details, zoe goes binary for the first time. and it’s… well it’s scary. it takes a whole lot of coaxing from old teammates and being physically restrained by diana (who lowkey is kinda like why?? are?? we?? stopping?? her?? from?? killing?? the?? joker??) and clark and donna, and they can’t even really knock her out because when she’s binary, there’s only really waiting out the duration of the high until she passes tf out from using too much energy. which she DOES and then after a good long talk with gran-gran, zoe’s going on a much needed retreat with diana to themyscira.

during that time, zoe’s super depressed. like reasonably, so. she’s so exhausted and she’s still angry but she’s also just like,,, so tired. she lost her best friend dude. like she loves jason so much, she loves him so much, and then he was just gone. poof! and at least, at least with atsa and ahiga, she got to like, be there for their send off. jason ends up being another hole in her life, like her dad and her mom and keme. he’s added to this list of people who all were just…g o n e. she didn’t get to mourn them. like obviously, she can, but every time she thinks about jason, she begins to spiral. (this is kind of when she starts drinking,,,, human alcohol can’t really touch her but she does therapeutically – which is!! not good!!) she also begins to distance herself – from jason’s titans (connor holds on with an iron grip and eddie still checks up on her, but rose was just as distraught and kyle is still kind of numb), from the original titans, from bruce and alfred, from diana, even from gran-gran and uncle bell. she fills the void with work as well as the alcohol that doesn’t really do anything to her except make her mouth taste gross and weird and she hates it but it’s become a habit. if she isn’t out doing some reckless thing while saving the world, then she’s at a bar or just sitting by the ocean.

she has bad dreams too, like horrible dreams. and like,,, they’re not necessarily horrific or anything,, she usually dreams about good times, memories with jason or with atsa and ahiga, sometimes some weird mixture of all three of them hanging out together and it’s the worst fucking thing because she wakes up and she wishes she was there too, that she could stay with them, because she misses them so much. she just wants her family back, she wants the family she had before jason and dick and alfred and the titans, but she also wants them too – she wants all of it.

and then it all comes to head with her dad’s sudden involvement with earth and shit. zoe sacrifices herself not only because she carries the fucking world on her shoulders and has a stupid martyr complex, but also because she thinks she’d be okay dying like this. she doesn’t. die that is. she doesn’t die but she also doesn’t come back.

jason’s revival story arc thing is all a bit murky for me bc I kind of like mix the whole waking up and clawing himself from his grave and also the under the red hood storyline (and like correct me if there is a version like that bc like,,, idk I can’t remember). anyway, so jason comes back, and like it’s kind of messy bc of timeline shit but he doesn’t really come back, come back, until z’s gone. like gone gone. like they held a funeral and everything for her. jason didn’t get to go and THAT is SHIT. like yeah, he wasn’t fucking alive, nobody fucking knows he’s alive anyway, but it still hurts.

and like,,, you know what else kind of hurts, is like he kind of thought that after he came back, if no one was on his side – if for some reason literally everyone was against him – he’d still have zoe. that’s the worst fucking part. he hears about what happened. he hears that she literally went ballistic. and like,, jason KNOWS that zoe would have his side, that zoe would be there for him, that even if she might not have agreed with some of the things he’s done, that she’d be right by his side, showing she cares. because like. like I know bruce is kind of stunted with emotional expression, but it’s really hard to feel like you’re appreciated when someone else’s love language is so fucking hard to translate, when you need constant validation, to be told you matter to be shown you matter to them and they can’t accommodate even a little bit, because of their pride or because they have to deem that you deserve it all of a sudden. and like I love bruce, but they way he treats his kids is shit. so yeah. jason feels hella alone when he comes back and his best friend, his rock, his ride or die (literally wfkejvnk) is fucking gone.

jason definitely has nightmares too. he doesn’t know how zoe died, like really know – no one does, because there hadn’t been a body. and jason’s mind can be a pretty dark place already, add on top of that the nightmares about his best friend dying the same way he did, or being like dick, who actually witnessed the explosion that ‘killed’ zoe. he can’t even fathom what zoe went through with his death, but eventually, as jason kind of comes back into the batfam and shit, he also kind of gets to be with the last of zoe’s family. gran-gran and uncle bell are much warmer than bruce wayne and that too big mansion and that cold fucking cave. jason goes to the ranch a lot, or finds himself at uncle bell’s antique shop whenever he needs a breather, to just be alone with something that close to zoe.

they literally both go through that period where they’re extremely reckless with mourning and regrets and fuck i never got to say this and fuck what could I have done differently, what could I have changed if I’d been there? but where jason is able to recover more effectively, zoe doesn’t do so well in space.

really, that song had triggered thoughts about jason going through her things, the things she left in his bedroom – that bruce refused to touch or move or anything – and just thinking back on their life together. it was definitely shorter than they expected and when jason thinks about it, it’s a whole bunch of salty anger and throat swelling sadness that has him kind of crippled. because like,,, he also knows how the twins died, he knows how it happened, not only did he have the firsthand accounts from those most effected, but also like, he read the reports. he KNOWS, and he feels kind of guilty, just a little bit, that what he did put her through a similar version to losing her baby brothers.

Ensemble Stars Episode 5 Analysis

This episode.  THIS EPISODE. This was what I was hoping for from Enstars anime since it was announced they were overhauling their original plans, and it lived up to everything I wanted it to be.

Also I’m very biased because Marionette was my first event and what got me into the game in general, but really, it’s that good.  

Nazuna’s so proud of his kids and it makes me happy.

Hey sometimes hungry boys just have to eat!

They don’t really expand on this here but obviously being sickly is one of the major character traits Eichi has and a big part of the reason why he’s so determined to change the way students at the school look at becoming idols. 

THEY.  Honestly Valkyrie is one of my top units, I love their story and their aesthetic and their music so much.

And see, this is what makes the overarching story of Ensemble Stars so interesting, because the school desperately needed a change.  The students had no motivation and basically counted on the reputation of being enrolled there to launch their careers, and for Eichi, somebody who honestly wanted to become an idol simply because he loves idols, you can see why he would want things to be different.  

The way he goes about implementing those changes, however…

‘Big Sis Maddy’ N O 

LOOK AT HIS LITTLE FANGS.  I’m sure I’ve said it before but Mika’s always been my best boy and seeing him animated is such a dream.

I wasn’t expecting Shu to get quite this touchy with Nazuna but damn this boy is gay and they really didn’t shy away from it which I’m kind of glad about.

I’m sorry for all the random screenshots of Mika that will inevitably be in here but his character design is so good and he looks so pretty in the anime.

I’m actually...kind of curious how people who’ve only seen the anime will react to Shu because Shu’s a very complex character and reactions to his introduction in the game were, well, mixed at best.  What he was doing to Nazuna was definitely wrong and manipulative because he was only considering his own feelings and goals but there’s a lot of good in his character and he does a lot of growing throughout the story.

I think it’s also interesting to note that the five oddballs weren’t...dubbed that by their own choice.  It was all Eichi, and for the most part they didn’t really even have any previous relationships, but despite that - or perhaps because of it -  they all became really close.

Mmmm the visuals in this performance are perfect, but I also love how you can tell there’s this...stiffness to them, especially Mika and Nazuna.  Valkyrie’s thing has always been performance but it’s far too technical and not filled with honest emotion at this point.  

Also I assume the reason they don’t use any 3D models for the characters is because their dream live models haven’t debuted yet, but it also makes for an interesting contrast to the other performances we’ve seen until now.

This is also interesting because in current lives Shu certainly does talk to the audience so that’s another way that Valkyrie has changed since back then.

And there we go.  Again, I love that neither side (and by that I mean Shu and Eichi) in this whole issue with Valkyrie is ‘right’ or blameless, but I won’t go into that until the next...episode…

Idk why they bothered to have Keito do this...recap of Valkyrie when we kind of knew most of the information already but this boy does love to talk.  Also hey Hasumi-chan don’t disrespect Mika like that (though again, at this point, Mika really is kind of...living up to his name and being in the shadow of the others…) 

Somehow I always envisioned Shu living in some gothic-style mansion so I’m glad that came true.

I’m going to try my hardest not to screencap every single frame of the next couple of scenes but these!  These ‘Girls Talk’ chapters in the event story were my first taste of Enstars writing and what made me decide immediately that Mika and Arashi were my favorite characters (and eventually inspired both my blog URL here and my handle on twitter).   Their relationship is just...so good, even at this early stage.  (And the fact that their voice actors were just tweeting ‘Mika-cha~n’ and ‘Naru-cha~n’ to each other when the episode was airing was the cutest thing)

Arashi’s crush on Akiomi was one of those things that worried me but at least it never goes beyond the schoolgirl stage and kind of goes away as the years go along.

They go through this entire scene without saying ‘Knights’ once, just ‘crazy extreme unit who punishes the bad guys’

SHU PLEASE.  They kind of gloss over this part in the anime except for Mika saying he ‘didn’t notice’ that he’d poked himself with the needle but Mika not being able to feel pain, even things like stomach pain, is definitely a thing so this is really less about Shu being controlling and more about him making sure Mika doesn’t make himself sick.  

THE LITTLE GLASSES FLASH.  Arashi does not like Shu for the longest time and they show that really nicely here without getting into it too much just from this reaction.

Mika talking about Nazuna with so much praise here hurts my heart but Arashi immediately bringing up ‘I wonder...if that makes him happy…’ is also very accurate.

I love Kuro’s second-year hair but I feel like this was one of the ‘childhood friends’ revelations that nobody was expecting because Kuro and Shu are just...so different.

I’m guessing this was just whoever was doing the subtitles not knowing the rest of the story since they’re talking about Kuro’s mom in the...present tense…

He hasn’t, because this one of Shu’s big faults: he’s a perfectionist, but it’s very hard for him to adapt to things that weren’t in his original plans, so even though Nazuna’s current singing voice is really nice, it’s not matching the experience he’s created in his mind so instead of adjusting to that he’s not even considering it.

And the thing is, it’s not like Shu didn’t have warnings: Kuro tried to tell him through Nazuna and Rei is telling him directly but he still maintains that Valkyrie is superior (quite honestly, I think their music probably is, but not when they’re lip-synching) 

‘Friend’ gave me big warm feelings, and I’m very glad they included the cup-phones because they’re kind of iconic at this point.

Okay but this is supposed to take place in...2014?  Maybe?  So where did he get those airpods from??? 

Also they make a pretty big deal about Nazuna not being able to sing the way he used to and I understand it for story purposes, but it’s interesting to note that his VA does all of the singing - past and present - for the character.  

Nazuna’s so concerned about Mika too, it’s cute ;;

Mika is actually the sweetest child, he worked so hard.

This is much closer to the Shu that we see in the next year and I’m glad there’s hints of it here with him doing this for Mika and Nazuna but not making a big deal out of it.  

Everything about this is perfect

LOOK AT HIM.  Obviously there were a lot of issues with Valkyrie in terms of it being the best place for Nazuna, but they had their moments and they were sweet.

This hurts so much seeing it at the end of the episode knowing what’s coming next and how it really never could be like this again.  It just.  Hurts.  

Ra*bits always have cute songs but the ending song is adorable, look at these good boys.
